- 0:01Speaker 1: Well, it's 25 years later tomorrow on September 11th. And
- 0:09Speaker 1: though it's been a long week for me personally, U.S.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Open until 2.30 a.m., Tuesday into Wednesday, hanging out with
- 0:15Speaker 1: Joni and Arthur and Matt Sambolino and Andy at Times
- 0:18Speaker 1: Square yesterday, I want to take a moment and play
- 0:22Speaker 1: you a message from the FDNY Commissioner, Lillian Bonsignore. who
- 0:29Speaker 1: was actually a first responder, a first responder on 9-11.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And when I posted the message you're about to hear
- 0:38Speaker 1: on Instagram, the hate that this woman got for simply
- 0:43Speaker 1: being a Mamdani appointee, for simply being in polo and jeans, well,
- 0:52Speaker 1: to the people crapping on her on my Instagram, let
- 0:56Speaker 1: me tell you something. You just insulted a 9-11 first responder.
- 1:03Speaker 1: That's right. According to Spectrum News, they did a whole
- 1:06Speaker 1: segment on her that she was a first responder with EMS.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Do you feel better about yourselves now that you just
- 1:12Speaker 1: trashed a first responder? It bothered me on Sunday when
- 1:17Speaker 1: I posted and then I got all this notifications of
- 1:21Speaker 1: people slamming her for no reason. And what's more infuriating...
- 1:28Speaker 1: is she actually had a speech of unity. Is she
- 1:33Speaker 1: not allowed to give a beautiful speech of unity just
- 1:37Speaker 1: days before 9-11? Take a listen.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Things like this are not easy. They're not easy for
- 1:44Speaker 2: any of us.
- 1:46Speaker 3: The closer we get to 9-11, the more difficult it gets.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And I know you feel it, and I feel it too.
- 1:54Speaker 3: But we put a lot of effort and a lot
- 1:57Speaker 3: of time into talking about.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Those that we lost. Rightfully so. They were stolen from us.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Far too soon. They live in our hearts.
- 2:11Speaker 3: But what we don't spend a lot of time talking
- 2:13Speaker 3: about is what we have.
- 2:17Speaker 2: And what we had was joy. What we had was.
- 2:21Speaker 4: The gift of your loved ones being with us, even
- 2:25Speaker 4: if that time was too short. What we have is
- 2:29Speaker 4: the memories that they brought, the impact that.
- 2:31Speaker 2: They had, and the fun that they had around the
- 2:34Speaker 2: kitchen table, and how they.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Loved you, and how they loved their families, how they
- 2:40Speaker 3: loved their brothers and sisters in their firehouses.
- 2:43Speaker 2: In their police stations, in their EMS stations.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Wherever they come from. What we had was incredible. And
- 2:51Speaker 3: that makes it seem like what we lost is too
- 2:55Speaker 3: much to bear. I say that what they left us
- 3:01Speaker 3: is their legacy. And you carry that legacy deep within
- 3:05Speaker 3: your soul. And when I look at you walking this walk,
- 3:11Speaker 3: holding up their pictures, talking about who they were and.
- 3:15Speaker 2: What they meant to you, they can never be lost.
- 3:20Speaker 3: They may not be here. but they will never be lost,
- 3:24Speaker 3: and we will remember them forever. The promise we made
- 3:27Speaker 3: to never forget is an eternal promise, not just a slogan.
- 3:33Speaker 2: It was my privilege and pleasure to walk.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Alongside of you today, and thank you for being with
- 3:39Speaker 3: us during this most difficult time.
- 3:42Speaker 2: When things get hard, please remember what we had, not
- 3:46Speaker 2: just what we lost.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I don't care if she was in a polo, that
- 3:51Speaker 1: said commissioner or in jeans, that message should resonate to everybody.
- 3:58Speaker 1: That is one of the most powerful messages that I've
- 4:02Speaker 1: heard about September 11th. And unfortunately, everybody around 9-11 has
- 4:08Speaker 1: made this political. People are concerned. Why isn't Trump coming
- 4:13Speaker 1: to New York? People are like, why should Mamdani go
- 4:16Speaker 1: to the 9-11 memorial? It's not about the politicians. It's
- 4:21Speaker 1: about the people we lost and the fact our country
- 4:24Speaker 1: was attacked 25 years ago. We have lost focus 25
- 4:29Speaker 1: years later on what we need to remember. This bickering,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and okay, 100,000 people don't want Mom Donnie to show up.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Did I like that he passed the pen to his
- 4:39Speaker 1: chief counsel that represented terrorists? No. But it's not even
- 4:44Speaker 1: about Mom Donnie or Trump. It's about the families. And yes,
- 4:50Speaker 1: the families are saying don't show up. That is true.
- 4:54Speaker 1: But it's about the families. It's about carrying legacies forward
- 5:01Speaker 1: 25 years later. It is about never forget. And it's
- 5:08Speaker 1: also about, I guess, remembering that we were united at
- 5:13Speaker 1: one point in my lifetime. We were united. We were united.
- 5:20Speaker 1: There was no real divisiveness after 9-11. It was everybody
- 5:25Speaker 1: came together. And damn it, I miss that community feel.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I only see it in pockets. Why does it have
- 5:32Speaker 1: to be pockets? Why can't it just be the entire country?
- 5:37Speaker 1: You know, being at Shea Stadium on September 21st, 2001
- 5:45Speaker 1: was just very special. You felt like we were all one.
- 5:51Speaker 1: being at the Yankees World Series in 2001. And just
- 5:57Speaker 1: in general, you know, you just felt that we had
- 6:00Speaker 1: each other's backs. And that message right there by the
- 6:03Speaker 1: FDNY commissioner, who was a first responder in 2001 on
- 6:08Speaker 1: September 11th, who probably went through hell and is still
- 6:12Speaker 1: here today. Governor Pataki, who was at ground zero, now
- 6:20Speaker 1: has a 9-11 related illness. But he was there on
- 6:24Speaker 1: the front lines. So was Mayor Giuliani. And I know
- 6:27Speaker 1: he's had his problems, but we just cannot whitewash Mayor
- 6:29Speaker 1: Giuliani from the conversation because of all that. Those are
- 6:37Speaker 1: the main politicians that I care about. Pataki and Giuliani,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and of course, God rest his soul, former police commissioner Carrick,
- 6:46Speaker 1: who was on the scene. They held the city together.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Piazza's home run held the city together. The Yankees run,
- 6:57Speaker 1: although it ended in heartbreak in game seven of 2001,
- 7:03Speaker 1: held the city together. We held each other together. Why
- 7:06Speaker 1: can't we keep holding each other together? Why does it
- 7:08Speaker 1: have to be everybody's throats? At everybody's throats. We've, in
- 7:19Speaker 1: trying to carry on 25 years later, we've lost the,
- 7:27Speaker 1: the ideals we had 25 years ago, which is we're
- 7:31Speaker 1: going to keep each other standing up. We're going to
- 7:33Speaker 1: hold each other up. And then you post something so beautiful,
- 7:39Speaker 1: like what she just said today on Sunday. And that
- 7:43Speaker 1: walk started from, uh, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis
- 7:47Speaker 1: of Assisi, all the way down to, um, 9-11, you know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: the memorial and stopped right out of St. Peter's Church
- 7:56Speaker 1: on Barclay Street. It was so wild. I wasn't even
- 8:01Speaker 1: supposed to be around that area, but I'm rolling around
- 8:04Speaker 1: in between shifts at radio and captured that. And I
- 8:10Speaker 1: post something so unifying and it gets crapped on online.
- 8:15Speaker 1: This is why we have, where we have truly fallen
- 8:19Speaker 1: is that we've can't even accept a nice message, a
- 8:25Speaker 1: nice rallying cry. And that should hurt everyone who wants
- 8:31Speaker 1: America to be United States of America. The fact that
- 8:35Speaker 1: you could post something so beautiful as that message and
- 8:38Speaker 1: it gets trashed for no reason, it just exemplifies how
- 8:44Speaker 1: far we've gone in the divisiveness. And I think 25
- 8:50Speaker 1: years later, it has to stop. It will never stop.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But can we at least be kinder to one another?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Can we at least, you know, be having each other's backs?
- 9:05Speaker 1: I don't like the term, I don't like the idea
- 9:09Speaker 1: of being united for those that were fallen, but I'm
- 9:12Speaker 1: sure those that were killed on 9-11 would not like
- 9:15Speaker 1: what they're seeing today. So if you truly want to
- 9:19Speaker 1: honor our fallen and honor their families, just be grateful
- 9:30Speaker 1: that there are people out there, like the fire department commissioner,
- 9:35Speaker 1: still saying that unifying message. We may not always get
- 9:42Speaker 1: it from Washington. I admit we don't get it from Washington.
- 9:46Speaker 1: We don't even get it from the White House. But
- 9:50Speaker 1: when someone of authority steps up and does something unifying,
- 9:53Speaker 1: don't trash it. Appreciate it. That message that we just
- 9:58Speaker 1: played here should be appreciated. all weekend long and carry
- 10:02Speaker 1: us forward. Because who we lost were decent human beings
- 10:12Speaker 1: just going to wherever they were. Here the tower is
- 10:17Speaker 1: going to work. Whether it was Flying to wherever they
- 10:20Speaker 1: needed to get to. Those 3,000 people. If you truly
- 10:28Speaker 1: want to honor them. Let's. Get back to the unity
- 10:31Speaker 1: we had for one another. Because I believe. Not ripping
- 10:36Speaker 1: each other apart. Will get us to another 250 years.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Some could say the midterms. Was going to keep us
- 10:46Speaker 1: carrying forward. 250 years. Like I heard. Last night. But
- 10:51Speaker 1: I don't entirely agree with that. Politics doesn't have to
- 10:55Speaker 1: keep us going entirely. It's the house I live in,
- 11:04Speaker 1: as Frank Sinatra was saying. That is what will keep
- 11:07Speaker 1: us going 25 years later. That community, standing with one another,
- 11:13Speaker 1: not against one another, is what is going to carry
- 11:16Speaker 1: us forward. Because I don't even know when the government fails,
- 11:28Speaker 1: but when leadership fails, who does it fall on? It
- 11:32Speaker 1: falls on each and every one of us to keep
- 11:36Speaker 1: this American story going. This American story was badly hurt
- 11:41Speaker 1: 25 years ago. But you know what I see also?
- 11:46Speaker 1: I see a revitalization in downtown Manhattan. That I did
- 11:49Speaker 1: not even expect. I remember my dad and I came
- 11:51Speaker 1: down to the rubble. And we saw it. I remember.
- 11:58Speaker 1: We came down here a couple times. As the progression.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Of the rubble being removed. Was continuing. We actually saw
- 12:05Speaker 1: that a few times. When the Tribune in Light. Was started.
- 12:10Speaker 1: We were there for that. And now 25 years later. Sometimes.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Our country becomes unrecognizable. What happened to that country that, yes,
- 12:26Speaker 1: was attacked, but also showed in times of great trouble
- 12:31Speaker 1: and great need will come together? Why can't we have
- 12:38Speaker 1: that approach in everyday life? Because that spirit of unity
- 12:44Speaker 1: will carry us forward. Not who wins a midterm. Or
- 12:48Speaker 1: even a presidential election at times, I feel like. But
- 12:53Speaker 1: how we treat each other in that spirit of unity,
- 12:57Speaker 1: that's how we're going to carry us forward 25 years later.
- 13:03Speaker 1: And that's my message at One Look Up Alex Media.
