- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's up to everybody Ryan Chapman Carson Field here at new and stadium series on a side post game wrap slash post game pod.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: After a thrilling, confusing 3327 victory over the Tennessee balls, one of our Carson Oklahoma's shouldn't have been in the game with the first half.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're up at half time, somehow it takes to build that town.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: Deepens turns it on, offerings grows into the game.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: They take control of it, they try to throw it away at the end.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Two hands teams, it was a wild ride here at D-Lift.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: This is arguably the weirdest football game that I've ever attended.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: They have a little bit of everything on field goals, turnovers, just some bizarre moments, and ultimately though, I felt like it was a similar position as far as, oh you had no business being in the game last week against Ole Miss, but they were,
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: couldn't find a way that day.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Today they were able to defence was great down the stretch.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: The offense made place when it needed to.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: So it was it was much different and a good response from what happened last week.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it it was absolutely crazy.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: Look up in the first half Tennessee out gained Oklahoma 255 to 99.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: But they only get to the end zone once.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: It was on the opening drive of the game.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the Brent Vindals had talked about that Tennessee absolutely unbelievable when it comes to first quarter points, things like that.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: He even burned a timeout, basically four or five plays into the game after what he thought was a bad passenger for him, so I'm currently gilly.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was a bad passenger for him, so ball was 7,000 feet over anybody's head.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: But he almost had to refocus the team and it looked like Carson often comes out, done.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: It might be another situation where you're going to Oh gosh, oh gosh, Tennessee's moving the ball and then Owen Heinecky, Hit's Joey Aguilar, the ball bounced to the ground, Armace and Thomas, able to scoop it up, rumbles 71 yards, holding off.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: He drug a tight end, 25 yards.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then they had to Oklahoma had to drag him into the end zone to look at he tweaked something on the end there.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: And he might be thinking,
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Gosh, at one point, that might have been perfectly represented with the Vindables area.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: The defense makes a huge play, but you lose your best pass rushing.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: You lose your best defense player, but that seemed to settle everything down, everything back in.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: You can see it was able to go back up 10 to 7, but Carson from there, like, we had a football game.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, definitely.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like that was gonna be,
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry about that audio check, but it looked like it was going to be an easy 14-to-nothing read for Tennessee and that was just such a momentum shift or took a lot of the energy out of this very loud, very good crowd here at Neil and Stadium and just a magnificent play by hynicky to strip him obviously by Thomas to drag Miles Kittselman however many yards you said 25 25 years I counted it but he counted up in the pressbox there's a 25 year drag
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was just a remarkable play, though.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: It just kind of reminded me a little bit of Beast Mode Marshal Lynch back in the day.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: I know Armace and Thomas just talked a lot about, I wanted to be a running back when I was a kid.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: We saw some of that today, saw some of the speed, the strength, to kind of be a power back, and that was just so impressive.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was unbelievable, and from there, Oklahoma was ever actually to settle in a little bit.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Owen Heinecky talked about it after the game.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: He had 12 tackles in the first half, only one of the second half allowed that was because Oklahoma did an excellent job balling up the run game, which then made some of the passing concepts that Tennessee tries to get to, which everything hinges off of that, a little bit different.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: And the second quarter, Oklahoma settles in and it became
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: The Tate Sandel Show, Oklahoma moves him into 55 yard range.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: That kick tied the Nealin Stadium record for the longest kick here on this very historic patch of grass behind us.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: He would go on later in the game to tie that record again with another 55 yarder and from that it was like the tug and pull of like the little offense, geometry looks off, looks gross, it's another day of your sitting there going.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: The Unverk is open.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: He missed him.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Sharon can't accept it.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: But he missed him.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: This is not good.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: Did Ben Albock will forget about Xavier Robbins and all that stuff in Oakland was just trying to piece something together and they were aided by two massive plays again by the defense.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: First it was Peyton Bowen as Tennessee's trying to get near their red zone again, trying to punch him for seven instead of three.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And Oakland had forced four turnovers all year cars and suddenly Peyton Bowen gets the pick.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: A nice little return Oklahoma's offense puts them in territory for Tates and don't knock one through and then you're sitting here going okay They get to the other side of the two minute time out can't Oklahoma know enough clock like it was it I remember in the blog thinking okay They're coming out of this thing second and 10.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Do you take the shot knowing if it doesn't pop off?
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: Tennessee's got other timeouts, and that's a quick straight offense.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Do you try to just manage clock while you're trying to get to the end zone?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: But more than anything you don't want to see to get the ball back
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: best of no-worlds for Oklahoma.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: They had to kick the vehicle to get the ball back, but it was a Robert Spirits Jennings Interception.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: This time, another day where Joey Eilers under pressure Spirits Jennings gets the pick, sets it up, and suddenly you look up and you go, Oklahoma's taking a lead into half-time, 16-10.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're getting the ball coming out.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: What is this world that three turnovers in the first half?
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: No, it was bizarre, and I mean, I thought the best way to get ahead in this game was to get pressure on Joey Accular.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen what he can do when he has time.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: We saw it a couple of times tonight, but every time that he got pressure just seemed like he was rattled, his throws weren't as accurate, reading some of those turnovers like he mentioned.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that one was...
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I'd say a game safer, but it was a game changer to get that one in the last two minutes of the first half, just a monumental play by Spear's Jennings, just totally turned what could have been a big tennis C swing into an OU1.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, only four sacks, eight tackles for loss.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have the full stats page in front of us because we're out here.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I felt like the big thing was the pressure.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I felt like that Brent Venables...
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't really seen Brent Venables have a full kitchen sink game quite yet at Oklahoma.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: There have been times where he's tried to rip out the pressure late against Alabama last year because Oklahoma got ahead.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's able to keep throwing guys, keep throwing guys.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like that from the second or third drive, he just kind of said, we got to open this thing up and try and generate pressure anyway.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: You can.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma plenty of hits on it.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there are a couple more that Robert Spiritshinings almost had one in the third quarter that the narrowly narrowly, narrowly missed him.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: You sit there and you're going, okay, it was 255 yards in the first half, but it was what Alabama had done to Tennessee to a certain extent, which was, make them, when the field gets really short, can you blow up, can you go ahead and enforce field goals, but then Oklahoma's offense comes out, gets nothing going on that first drive.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: The second half, Tennessee marches down the field, big, exposed to play 17 to 16 in Carson.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: You obviously were in the atmosphere, which Neil and
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: unbelievable it was not a one-off back in 2015 this place is rocking tonight the dark mode the light show pre-game but it felt like that when the turnover started to come and there are a lot of drones a lot of WTF guys what's going on here and and it seemed like Oklahoma for a small period of time I'm not going to say took me the end of the game but nerfed the atmosphere until it was 1716 all over again
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: They did a little bit, and I felt like part of that was self-inflicted on Tennessee's in just with some of their playcalling.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: I know that Tackle that PJ at a Boray had deep in this end.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: That was a bizarre playcall, a third in short, just a simple run play after they had run twice on that drive into very little success, drawing that up was weird, and you could hear some of the groans from the Tennessee fans, felt like they were losing a little bit of their life, and then finally, oh, use offense, able to get some things going not perfectly, but a lot better than we saw earlier in the game.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and something that Brett Vennable sees, he talked about on his post-game radio show, he kind of talked about with us in the post-game press conference, that at some point enough is enough.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: And it sounds like, I don't know if he would say he'd like issued a challenge, but it sounds like they got in the locker room, basically said, at some point, when you're gonna live up to the Oklahoma, he was pointing to the Oklahoma, when you're gonna live up to that, when you're gonna just start making plays, when you're gonna start putting aside the, oh, what we had to play here, we missed it, we had to play here with all the stuff that we talked about, right?
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: That it seems like every time they seize control of anything,
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: poof it's gone and there was an element of that here certainly but for the deep fence there wasn't that drive where you go hey once it was 17-16 you know come as offense got going there wasn't that drive where you're like oh my gosh what's happening until the very very into the game when that stuff gets really really weird when you're up nine with like two and a half minutes left or four 15 whatever it was.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: seemed like this defense came out and it was honestly a really weird moment.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Xavier Robinson, the first time Oklahoma's offense crosses the 20, Xavier Robinson, he was going to the right, runs through an armed tackle, bounces back toward the middle of the field.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: The ball gets punched out, just a great peanut punch there by Tennessee and from that point on it was three and out for most defense and Tennessee had a special team's error.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: when it came to the Plunk Airman field that said it'll come up in a great field position.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Another three now, and that's what I'm about like, I don't know, something.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: shifted in the defense, whether like we're gonna just go out and be that elite unit.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: When someone looked up the lead a little bit, then it made it to where Josh Hype volunteered to see if I got a little too pass-hap.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I feel like we talked about molasses to Texas and Ole Miss, that the defense was good, but not good enough.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: It was absolutely good enough today.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: You saw some of that physicality that you saw early on against Michigan, Auburn.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: When this defense looked like it was the best in the nation, I mean,
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: An offense is good as Tennessee's is going to have your big, have their big plays on you that's going to happen.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: You saw it a couple times tonight, but I mean late in the game wouldn't matter most the defense did with it, even to do.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like even on that last ditch effort when Tennessee settled for the field goal, there are some good coverages, really, some good balls from Aguilar that owe you to fend of really well and just very consistent the last about quarter and a half of the game from the defense.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want you to go into the second corner.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: There was the play over the middle of the field where, or was it the first corner?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't matter.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Where, how you learn delivers like a perfect strike right over the middle of the field and Peyton Bowen comes across and absolutely smoked the best.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: The best for the team.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a moment where, and that was on a drive where I had like turned to, I was hit between George Floyd and Tom Green and was like, this is a big moment.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know it's very, very early in this football game, but this offense clearly has taken some time to settle in.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: They can't let this thing get away from the offense and they didn't.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: And part of that, I think, was, Chomitsier said that, which we'll talk about, he certainly came alive in the second half, but I thought another part of it was, we knew that Michael Pissusy, he's gotten a lot of time this year at left tackle Ryan,
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: no Derek Simmons again, pretty good against Ole Miss, but now, Tennessee has the whole week of tape.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, they lost that rep. How do I want to challenge this challenge that?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Then Eddie Peer, the Wii, it left guard.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's something I asked Brent, Vennables about you.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: You had three freshmen, basically.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: A wrench shirt freshman, Eddie Peer, Lee, and two true freshmen out there.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: And he just laughed in and basically made a joke about, we're going to have to take care of them because everybody's going to be calm and see what they've got.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: But it was a really, really young office of line that grew into the game.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: And by the end of the game, Carson, almost felt like we were back to,
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: Why you're in the football more, because this offense of line, they were leaning on Tennessee for as much as Oklahoma's defense had to survive on the field in the first half, the third quarter it felt like it was outside of the touchdown tribe that made it 17-16 it felt like it was back in the cotton bowl where Oklahoma's defense couldn't get that was Tennessee's defense couldn't get out of the field.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, 100%, I felt like the run blocking for MoU is very similar to what we saw in Columbia South Carolina.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: That was obviously a great effort from the offensive line.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of holes opened up late in the game.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: X Robinson finally gets the ball in his hands, makes the most of it.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: John Matier, a lot more effective than he's been recently on the quarterback runs.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: So just things we hadn't seen lately and things that have gotta be refreshing for a U-Fan's knowing.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, we still have a good,
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: good future with this offensive line.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: We still have a good future with this running game.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna get better.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: It does take time.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this was a step in the right direction.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but here finish 19 to 29 through the air for 159.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: He did have an interception.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to it.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: The whole last six minutes this game was bonkers.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought, crucially, it's 16 for 80 on the ground.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: The touchdown would also get to it weird on the ground.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: But you think about it, there was that the play where it felt like that the geometry against Michigan was back.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: 3rd and 16, 3rd quarter.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: They're coming into this in zone.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's not only the Baker Maple Day, so if you know, Baker Maple, this is the incident that his Rolex Sterling Shepherd was back on the other end.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was the 3rd and 16, he picks up 20 yards, I thought it was a great play by Xavier Robinson to recognize that his quarterback was running, and he picked up the lineback, which really opened up the lane, not just for like a positive idea back to the line skirmish, but to maybe get to the sticks, and there were a couple of times early where Mattier
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was so bizarre.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: He was drifting to the right.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: He almost, the one time he got sacked, he put his arm out, almost acknowledging the pressure was there, and he continued to drift into it.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: There was another play on the ground early in the game where he was trying to pick it up, and he ended up getting some yardage, but he was late through the hole when it was clear as day like, hey man, you need to run the, it felt like that run, Carson, the third quarter's really win material locked back in, and then he delivered that ball to Satania as well.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then it was back to like, hey, it's the material you saw against Michigan, the material you saw against
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: not always perfect, but can step up and make big plays late.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, I felt the same way.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this is a defense that struggle, but they still have dudes on that defense, a lot of athletes, and material looked very similar.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, not perfect, they're going to be more accurate quarterbacks in college football, but the playmaker that you need to win big games like this.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: Not all of the best playmakers are the most accurate, the most game manager types.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I certainly wouldn't call John material that, but he is a playmaker, just that long run, third and very long.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: That was so impressive.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like that was a turning point as far as his composure, his confidence, and being able to command this team to win.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was big time, and that gets us to the end of the game, Oklahoma manages it, and you're sitting here going, all right, this is the knockout blow, this is where Oklahoma needs to separate, right?
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: They put this drive together,
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's first in 10 with four or 15 left in the game on the plus 35.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is where you get into not quite four minute drill territory, because they'd already started the drive, but this is at hand.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: You could just get another field goal on the board.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: It pushes it out to 12.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be two touchdowns since he had two time outs left.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then they come out and inexplicably, I felt like it was deja vu, except this time, Hugh Freeze was on the Oklahoma sideline.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's exactly what happened against Auburn last year that he put some binobuckle, put some into an RPO look.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: material, pulls it, throws it to your Michael Carter, ball pops up, then suddenly it becomes an interception, but it was after the game, just was like, yeah, that need to be a run, run, believe he'll go over that with Ben Arbuckle in the moment, immediately after and after that.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then it just suddenly became this Oklahoma managing it, if you score a touch down the games over, over like there were Tennessee fans leaving.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: They were getting up in their section to go once Oklahoma kind of cross midfield and everybody kind of came rushing back and that set up the big long touchdown drive late.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: We can get to this favor Robinson piece of it at the end, but just when it bizarre, it was, that was like the moment of like, even when you thought they had had it, it was ultimately to turn the corner.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: They gave it right back and you were like, were you back in another football game?
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it felt like they got a little too cute for the moment just in that sequence where it bounced off of Carter's hands and into the defenders.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: If it's fighting, that's earlier in the game.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: I love that call.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it should have been open.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: It just took a weird balance off of him.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like, um, don't hate the read.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I hate it in that situation.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: I hate that.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: I hate that.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, yeah, it's like the setting of when it was called love the play design though.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that would have been a good hit or earlier in the game.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't though, and thankfully for them, it was not costly.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was bonkers, since you come down scores, Oak on the hands team gets out there, recovers it, Xavier Robinson busts up a 43-yard run, and then decides to fall down the one, which I think is okay if
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: You then, Satyasi, a two-time-ass that forced him to burn one-time-out if material comes out and takes another knee and then you run a clock-off and then maybe instead he'll come with like, score something next play.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: That, by the way, is the play where Eddie Peer-Louis had butts Michael Fassucy, and then Michael Fassucy's like, Hell yeah, brother, I'm head-buttony back, and they like sprinted out there, which the Fassucy Peer-Louis, foe-jay, we gotta keep those guys together, because they're an absolute, just,
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: They're a group, they're an absolute group of characters, but it was a whole situation.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Way less worried about the time management that they're very, very in, because I don't know, it's hard to just turn away the points, the way that things had gone.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Because you're making them go score twice and all that, but it was just kind of the moment where even when you felt like they had turned to porn, and I think we'll see if they have turned to porn.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to that here in a minute.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, here you go again.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: They can't live success.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really successful success for Fuse 2.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I felt like,
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's too much to blame as far as the play calling just scoring the next play after that big run from Robinson is it's a weird there are so many different ways you can play that if you like once Robinson breaks a big run like that scoring I mean getting up two scores was huge Tennessee obviously able to get a feel goal but oh you second there is really good on that answer from Tennessee preventing the deep passes from hitting
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: That ultimately they were able to recover the on-site and it didn't really matter at the end of the day But I feel like you kind of lean on the blockers lean on the hot hand that was material at that point of the game Get that last touchdown give them just one kind of knockout blow to end it
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it was, you go all the way back earlier when the Zebra happens before you're in touch down, went in, Oakland goes up to 237.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: They opt not to go for two that would put you at 25.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: Or at 24, excuse me, 17 instead of 237, they were up to 237.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: That was kind of quirky.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Although, I do understand
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: I understand it for both ways, that saying, hey, go for it, put it back up.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: I also understand the, if you get in a two point conversion thing and the math gets wonky, that I don't know what the analytics say, but I certainly know as a football watcher, especially on Sunday, it's kind of like, we end up in this weird, like, two point conversion fast.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like that one with all the stuff in the last week of this whole mix.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, with two out three left and the third quarter, I'm, I'm more okay with that than
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: the RPO called there.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it was an interesting spot.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about rotation so much.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: Dr. Michael Carter played a really prominent role today.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: He was on the field way more than usual.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: It was a spot where it felt like they quickly were going to different stuff.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: You saw a job into your plan on a lot more empty.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: I thought early.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: I just wonder how much it didn't help him early.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: He eventually settled him later, but so much of it was just confused of it.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like Arvac was like, okay, well, we've skinned some guys open, and that's not working.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: So what else can I go to to try to get my quarterback back locked in, back rollin' and thankfully for Oklahoma, I think it truly was that round on the ground and from there they were often runnin'.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I felt like a side from that RPO called that lead to the pick.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like it was a pretty well-called game, just our buckle adjusting two mature strength.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: What he is and what he isn't doing well on this certain day.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like the adjustments were made.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the halftime speech was, but it had to have been good, because this just the second half, both sides of the ball, the effort was phenomenal.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and now that you get to a spot where it was build all week, this is like a comfortable, unplatful lemonade.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: The team that left here was going to have three losses.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: The road for Oklahoma is going to be much more difficult.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: Tennessee obviously I think they have a lively Florida team left I think they have a buy game and then and then bandie so you had that I remember who there was next it was next go stay yeah I was sad I remember who the buy game was so bandie with lots of Texas today Oklahoma obviously on a buy at least Alabama has LSU next week you know Alabama can't work ahead then Oklahoma heads down to Tuscaloosa but this was a spot where I know that not a ton of confidence none of us here at the website picked Oklahoma and for the first
- 19:42[SPEAKER_00]: 15 minutes of clock it was like this is kind of why the offense was so shaky and in a game where it felt like it was going to be a little bit of a shootout was it going to be or you're going to hold Tennessee or was Oklahoma following in this quarter 30 in SEC play and they find this quarter 30 in SEC play can this be the turning moment not just for this season as being able to flip it back and say
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: Ole Miss, Top 10 Team, Socks, you had chances of stuff like that.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Is this maybe a moment that Brent Venibals can seize this and turn it and say we finally made the plays in a massive game, not in a game against Alabama where.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: We were playing for pride, but you know, what does that look like?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: Can they take this to Tuscaloos and run with them?
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's definitely at least a reminder.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: At the very least, like, okay, we were this good.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Even if Auburn and Michigan haven't turned out to view world leaders, we looked awesome in those games.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: We have a confident group.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: We can take this into Tuscaloos to bring some energy with that.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's, I mean, there is a lot to play for with this team.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: Bam is not going to be an easy out.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: their first second best, wherever you want to rank them, they're a very dang good football team in this conference, just great on both sides of the ball.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean they have, they have to recognize the good from this game and build off of that because they're going to need it every team in the SEC that plays against BAM will, but it's just got to be a good reminder of that.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: After all, everything happened between but to your surgery, the distractions that come with that, getting punched in the mouth by taxes, it's easy to kind of lose the focus I feel like getting it back in an atmosphere that I can't imagine there are many more hostile at the spirit when this one in college football.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's impressive and it should be at least a conference builder for nothing else.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Neil and State, it's unbelievable, we'll get to that area.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: When you look at it, Brent Venibals, he talked about Kobe and Armace, and he kind of bunched them together in the post game, and said that he doesn't expect either of those to be like super serious Kobe was given it a go in warm-ups, and he got through the warm-ups that happened in the end, and it's been a game she doesn't talk about through the end zone.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: Then he got over to the sideline of some of the linebacked drows, and he was going through them, and midway through linebacked drows, he pulled himself out, started talking to the trainer, he was trying, and
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: It felt like he was really, really close, but I think it was pretty clear by the the end of it that he was like, okay, I'm not going to be able to give this a go.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see on our Mason, and again, Brits had done the things he had been super serious, but they'll see.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is a huge week for the defense to, it's just some detail stuff that Brent talked about, kind of in post game.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: And for John Metier, I can't imagine what these next two weeks had been like for him if they had come out, play like he did in the first half in the second half.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: All the questions from us, Yahoo's, remember one, probably internally, what does that look like, but now it becomes a,
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: You have the path forward, right?
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Xavier abs in this running game.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's something you can build on.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma ends up with 192 rushing arts.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma ends up with 192 rushing arts.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma, I'm going to say it again.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: They end up with 192 rushing arts on the road in the SEC.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: In a game where they scored 30 points, hot damn.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: What does that look like?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: You got an offensive line that you know that you can build off of with those three young pieces.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: Michael, in fact, she we will might get Simmons back.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: I get Simmons back maybe, we'll see, but if not, I mean, the foe JF, let us assume that everything is something that you want to roll with.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: They've already experienced this kneeling out in the sphere, and so Tusk Lucifer Bryant didn't, he's going to be loud, it's going to be awesome.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: I have trouble believing it's going to be as loud as this is though.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: Even if it's just a push, even if it is just as loud, it's like you've experienced this.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: There's no stupid.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're used to it now, and this is something where our buckle feels like can dial in on building
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: just couldn't come at a bigger time and we we've talked about at many different points because the question still been out there like is Brent Vennables the guy that can get Oklahoma all the way back he speaks the defense can get all the way back the reason why the Michigan game is the biggest game of the Brent Vennables year 10 year then the Auburn game is the biggest game then the Texas game is the biggest game then the Ole Miss Kit
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because that question's still open, it feels like though that this Tennessee game was massive.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: If they go out and lose this game or certainly get blown out, it becomes a... Well, there's not going to be a move at the end of this year with a new AD coming in, but like it was going to put friendly back in hot seat discussions going to the office, you saw that stuff wipe all that away now, because you go and beat Alabama.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: even if you don't beat Alabama.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you play a really, really close game in Tuscaloos of Carson, then you come home and be a Missouri team that might not have both reveal a beat analysis team that nobody knows.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows what that's going to look?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe no brand Kelly probably helps them out.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying you're auto in, but for Brent Venibos, the task was get to eight and three, eight and four, nine and three, get Oklahoma in the conversation on selection Sunday.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: That path, I think we can all see that path after what they showed today.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no definitely.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this team looks like it's capable of beating just about anybody today, not a perfect game, plenty of wonders.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like we said early on, wasn't great, but just there is only in the second half is what you need out of a team that's gonna contend.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: It gives, it's gotta give them a lot of confidence before playing a team as good as Bama.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Beat Bama things get really interesting.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Even if they don't, I use a play competitive game.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, wacky things have happened today in college football.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: They've happened all year.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: Rip their attack.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: RIP to the yellow jackets.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: But you never know, like, it's not a lot of things without the father away, but it's not impossible that even with the loss to Bamba, they would be just totally eliminated.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Regardless, first Tuesday night, first CFP rankings come out.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: It can be something we're all going to be watching.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: All going to be covering obviously those listeners on outside.com because it's going to be the okay.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: They were 18th of the AP poll.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: The new AP poll will drop.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: They'll move up.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of carnage dodge football.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: They're suddenly going to be on that in the hunt graphic.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to be on the in the hunt graphic with a top five matchup with Alabama looming.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: It'll certainly be a top five matchup.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Lockdown for sure.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: If Alabama can beat.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Or at least Alabama in the top five not top, you know what I mean.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's one a literally just turn one a And bear with us, but they're gonna have a chance to go on the road and not to win over a team in the top five There we go nailed it.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: So you have a three go and that would be something to propel That's something that that's incredible Kibble to put out there going into a by way a definitely is I mean it shows them that the
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: the goal is still reachable at this point.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think if they lose today, I mean they still technically maybe could get that back door way in if they beat Bama and Missouri and LSU, but without have really been likely if they were to just come to Newland Stadium and got slaughtered, my my take is no.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: But seeing how they looked in the second half, not saying that makes the beta game easier because it doesn't, but it should give them a little faith like, okay, we can play a complete game of football.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: We don't just totally look like we did against Ole Miss or Texas.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: We still have a very high ceiling, you saw that tonight.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic, fantastic win, 33, 27, Oklahoma marches into New Zealand and not just another big time win here in one of the absolute cathedrals of college football.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad that in the SEC this is not a shot at like, Ames, Iowa, or love or anything like that.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: The great atmosphere especially in Oklahoma comes to town, but coming here, I mean, they were reading out all the stats, it's one of the largest stadiums in the world, one of the largest and college football, the wall of noise, the dark mode beforehand, the light show.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: third down for what being back just the drive in Knoxville's a beautiful beautiful plate these are the settings that Oklahoma should be playing in these settings every single week and that's what's so excited about the SCC is that we've been doing a bunch of incredible stops already we've been you haven't even covered full two years with us
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: No, and you've been doing something incredible.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Slaps, Bryce, Baton Rouge, this.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: I know we got Sanford Stadium, Gainesville, Kyle, field all on the slate and future years.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're headed to Tuscaloosa next time out.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, getting ahead of myself, it's not exciting.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty unbelievable, pretty awesome.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: And Oklahoma, in the mix, I've kind of said it as they were walking off the field, still alive, the sooners.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not like a clinging on for dear life.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: Did they have to cling on?
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of at the end a little bit.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: So what if it wasn't quite survive
- 27:38[SPEAKER_00]: The last two minutes, it's certainly more difficult than it needed to be, but there's no chromatine that's going to be carrying a lot of confidence, holding a test closest that could be pretty pretty fun.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: Be sure to head to the website, OkumaSoonersonassight.com.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, it is one I am here.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to pause, we're going to stop this, we're going to wrap up plenty more content to come, OkumaSoonersonassight.com, as well as John Hoover's YouTube page, you know it, you love it, John Hoover Media.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: So the player interviews got to talk to Doug Deacon after the date stand out.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: We can't close down yet.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: We can't close down yet.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Tate Sandel, four field goals.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: He was so money, it almost just left my brain.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: Four field goals, 55, 55, 51, 40, Rosa Award winner, Heisman Schrofey winner.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: The Raiders are gonna draft him in the first round of the draft.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: No, Brett Venibos, you could tell, big smile and space, he was talking like, yeah, he was asked about the turnover, he was like, yeah, the turnover has helped keep us in this game.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was just about to go on doing that.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: The question is like, anti-Sandell, call them an animal.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we talked to Doug Deacon, anti-Sandell that, what a, it's not often cars, so we get to, I asked heroin.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: What's it like having Tate Sandell on your football team?
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not often the bad-ass defense events lighten up better kicker.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's unbelievable.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think every player got asked about Tate Sandel and some capacity, at least the interviews that I was in.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was Isaiah Sustania who said, that guy is going to be kicking on Sundays.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was Kip Lewis said they tried to rattle him in practice.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he's just unshaken and you saw that.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: 155 whatever it is that was in fans screaming at him today he was on face he was excellent as he has been that he's tied gateburg to school record for most consecutive made jibbles at 18 is next one out in Tusk Lucifer he has a chance to break that unbelievable
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, as long as Tate Sandell wins day when we regroup, get Hube involved, get A-Rinvolved for the full Fledged Shepai Week edition of the Series on SI Podcast.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: But that's all the day I wish we could do here for our field of state and for Carson, I'm Ryan.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: Stick with us, we'll be churning out a bunch of contents, we drive back on Sunday, so be sure to head to the website, Oklahoma Seniors on SI.com and tell them.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys.
