- 0:00Chapter twenty one. Dismissing his regrets as inappropriate to the matter in hand,
- 0:08he accomplished the last section of the day by riding off to his new allies.
- 0:15He was glad that he had broken with the club, for he would
- 0:19have picked up scraps of gossip there and reported them down in the city,
- 0:25and he was glad to be denied this opportunity. He would miss his billiards
- 0:32and occasional tennis and cracks with mac bride, but really that was all so
- 0:40light did he travel. At the entrance of the bazaars, a tiger made
- 0:46his horse shy. A youth dressed up as a tiger, the body striped
- 0:52brown and yellow, a mask over the face. Mohoram was working up the
- 1:00city beat a good many drums, but seemed good tempered. He was invited
- 1:07to inspect a small tazia, a flimsy and frivolous erection, more like Akrideline
- 1:14than the tomb of the grandson of the prophet done to death at Kervella.
- 1:21Excited children were pasting colored paper over its ribs. The rest of the evening
- 1:27he spent with the Nawab Bahadur Hamidullah Mahmoud Ali and others of the Confederacy.
- 1:36The campaign was also working up. A telegram had been sent to the famous
- 1:42Amritrao, and his acceptance received. Application for bail was to be renewed.
- 1:49It could not well be withheld now that misquestion was out of danger. The
- 1:55conference was serious and sensible, but marred by a group of itinerant musicians who
- 2:04were allowed to play in the compound. Each held a large earthenware jar containing
- 2:10pebbles and jerked it up and down in time to a doleful chant. Distracted
- 2:17by the noise, he suggested their dismissal, but the Nawab badur vetoed it.
- 2:24He said that musicians who had walked many miles might bring good luck.
- 2:31Late at night, he had an inclination to tell Professor Goodwilly of the tactical
- 2:37and moral error he had made in being rude to he slipped, and to
- 2:42hear what he would say. But the old fellow had gone to bed and
- 2:46slipped off, unmolested, to his new job in a day or two.
- 2:52He always did possess the knack of slipping off. End of Chapter twenty one
