- 0:00Aloha. Tuesday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening across the islands today.
- 1:36Trade winds are light through Friday — expect calm conditions with afternoon showers, especially on the leeward side. Windward areas will see more regular moisture. If you're planning a beach day, mornings are your best bet before the afternoon showers roll in.
- 1:49Surf is small across most of the islands right now. Oʻahu's south shore is running 3.5 feet, the north shore 3.3 feet — both comfortable for swimmers and beginner snorkelers. Kauaʻi's Hanalei is running 4.8 feet with a stronger shore break, so watch for rip currents there. The Big Island is glassy and calm.
- 2:05Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several trail closures right now — Sulfur Banks, Kīpukapuaulu, and the Lava Tube Bridge are all closed. The park is open overall, but check ahead if you're planning to hike. Kīlauea is at advisory level with no current eruption.
- 2:18Our guide on fall ocean safety covers where it's safe to swim once the season shifts in October and November. Right now the north shore is small, but come fall the big winter swells will flip everything — the south and west coasts become your swim spots while the north side fires up. If you're planning a return trip or recommending the islands, it's worth bookmarking.
- 2:36This weekend winds pick up and a south swell arrives, building through next week toward seasonal highs. Choppy water lingers midweek, but calm mornings through Friday are your window.
- 2:45Leeward coasts are your sweet spot through Friday with light winds and calm mornings. Enjoy the calm. Talk to you tomorrow.
