- 0:25Speaker 2: All right, thank you. Welcome back to the episode of
- 0:27Speaker 2: the Mixed Company podcast. On one half of the show,
- 0:30Speaker 2: Jamison wels And joined by Louise Louise. What's going on man,
- 0:34Speaker 2: Happy New.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Year, Happy New Year, Jamison. Man. I am so excited
- 0:38Speaker 1: to be back for episode thirty four of our show.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But before we get into what's going on in this episode,
- 0:44Speaker 1: if you're just joining us, we got to have you
- 0:46Speaker 1: go back to episode thirty three, our previous episode, we
- 0:49Speaker 1: had an amazing interview with an award winning journalist named
- 0:51Speaker 1: Gail fuck Good follow a woman who has been covering
- 0:57Speaker 1: boxing for years. She is one of the biggest ex
- 1:00Speaker 1: in the sport you'll ever find, passionate, a lot of knowledge,
- 1:03Speaker 1: she's the historian of the sport. And we've gotten a
- 1:07Speaker 1: really good feedback on that episode. And you gotta check
- 1:10Speaker 1: it out. It's a wonderful interview. She's totally awesome. After
- 1:14Speaker 1: we got off the mic, she had some personal advice
- 1:16Speaker 1: for me about getting into boxing media a little bit
- 1:18Speaker 1: more this year. So please, y'all, if this is your
- 1:22Speaker 1: first episode, do not neglect our previous one episode thirty
- 1:25Speaker 1: three Apple, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, and on YouTube. Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 1: so did you How did you feel about our previous
- 1:33Speaker 1: episode with the interview Jamison?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Ah, it's always good talk with people who actually enjoy boxing.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I think a lot of people get in the sport
- 1:43Speaker 2: because it benefits them or because they can play an angle.
- 1:48Speaker 2: She genuinely enjoys the sport. She enjoys all the parts
- 1:51Speaker 2: of which is always a good thing to see. I
- 1:54Speaker 2: think a big part as we've gotten with sports and
- 1:58Speaker 2: media is there's too many people who try to become
- 2:00Speaker 2: the story. There's too many people who try and be
- 2:04Speaker 2: bigger than the people that they're covering, and I think
- 2:07Speaker 2: that's a big issue.
- 2:08Speaker 1: That we have even in boxing.
- 2:10Speaker 2: There are certain boxing people who I'm not gonna name now,
- 2:13Speaker 2: but for those who know know that they feel that
- 2:17Speaker 2: people are coming to Vegas or New.
- 2:19Speaker 3: York to cover them that is not how this works.
- 2:22Speaker 2: So it's refreshing to see people like boxing for what
- 2:26Speaker 2: it is, not have any hot takes. That's another issue
- 2:29Speaker 2: that we have with people who cover boxing. They weren't
- 2:33Speaker 2: like subtle, eite, racist or nothing like that. So it's
- 2:36Speaker 2: very good to see someone that actually enjoys boxing. Wasn't
- 2:40Speaker 2: no funny stuff, so it was cool. It was cool.
- 2:42Speaker 2: With that being said, it's a breath of fresh air,
- 2:46Speaker 2: especially being a woman in the game, because a lot
- 2:49Speaker 2: of times you see women in boxing, there's a lot
- 2:52Speaker 2: of thoughts that go through your mind for whatever reason
- 2:54Speaker 2: it might be. So it was good to see someone
- 2:57Speaker 2: know their stuff, a lot of experience, no funny stuff,
- 3:01Speaker 2: no questionable past, No oh she's only here because she
- 3:04Speaker 2: did this, this and that or Legsedli did this and that,
- 3:07Speaker 2: not asked to say it was good. It was refreshing,
- 3:10Speaker 2: and hopefully going forward in twenty six and beyond, we
- 3:13Speaker 2: have more interviews like that.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Absolutely and yeah, I mean she I think I think
- 3:18Speaker 1: our show is we do have a lot of hot
- 3:20Speaker 1: takes ourselves, but it comes from a passionate place for
- 3:22Speaker 1: the sport and wanted to be better. So she and
- 3:25Speaker 1: she and we agreed on a lot of things about
- 3:27Speaker 1: where the sport is, where it's going, where it should go.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So I cannot recommend our previous episode enough to everybody
- 3:33Speaker 1: if you want to it, even if you're just tuning
- 3:35Speaker 1: in and you don't know a lot about boxing and
- 3:37Speaker 1: want to learn, that's an episode to go to because
- 3:40Speaker 1: she is a wealth of information, and yeah, please check
- 3:44Speaker 1: it out. But yeah, let's you know, it's a new
- 3:46Speaker 1: year and it's a new episode. So that was then
- 3:49Speaker 1: this is now let's get let's turn our eyes to
- 3:53Speaker 1: the best source of boxing news. The Boxing Gazette picked
- 3:56Speaker 1: that up at the news stand this morning when I
- 3:57Speaker 1: woke up, well like twelve twelve thirty, but I checked
- 4:01Speaker 1: out the Boxing Gazette and it is brought to you
- 4:03Speaker 1: by our sponsor, Delightful Smoke Shop in Tucson, Arizona, located
- 4:07Speaker 1: at six two one seven East twenty second Street, open
- 4:10Speaker 1: seven days a week. Please go check out the like
- 4:12Speaker 1: full smoke shop and apperil And yeah, let's see what's
- 4:16Speaker 1: in the news headlines today. First things first, Anthony Joshua retires,
- 4:20Speaker 1: Tyson fury unretires. So we talked also previous episode about
- 4:24Speaker 1: Anthony Joshua's tragic accident that he had a vehicle accident
- 4:29Speaker 1: where a couple of his friends and members of his
- 4:31Speaker 1: team passed away. Really really sad, horrible thing to happen.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And it turns out that after this he's he's retiring.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You know, I am absolutely not a fan of Jake
- 4:43Speaker 1: Paul and I considered him ex communicator from the podcast.
- 4:45Speaker 1: But Anthony Joshua, essentially, if he were stays retired as
- 4:49Speaker 1: going out on top because he got his name in lights,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I'm sure he made a big bag. A lot of
- 4:55Speaker 1: ladies were thirsty and before him when they found when
- 4:57Speaker 1: they learned who he was and saw pictures of him
- 5:00Speaker 1: in the ring, you know, video of him in the ring.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So yeah, I think, you know, it's hard to get
- 5:07Speaker 1: your mind right after something like that happens. You know,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Luckily it's never happened to me. I've never been in
- 5:12Speaker 1: an accident like that, but I've known people that have.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I known people that lost people, and I just can't
- 5:17Speaker 1: imagine you kind of getting your head right after that
- 5:20Speaker 1: to be back in a ring anytime soon. So yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I don't know. I want to see where your thoughts
- 5:25Speaker 1: are and whether you think this is going to stick
- 5:27Speaker 1: or it's another one of those retire unretired situations.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's tough because whenever you lose someone so sudden, all
- 5:35Speaker 2: bets are often comes to emotions.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Especially as his team.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He's losing trainers and people that are closer than getting
- 5:40Speaker 2: ready for battle. So it's not necessarily just losing a friend,
- 5:44Speaker 2: but it's also as someone that helps you in the ring.
- 5:47Speaker 2: That's I think that's the part where it gets real
- 5:50Speaker 2: nice because you just.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Can't trust anyone.
- 5:52Speaker 2: You get other trainers, you get another nutritious, a corner person,
- 5:56Speaker 2: of course, but it's not the same. Like thing about
- 5:59Speaker 2: boxing is the great boxes usually have a lot of
- 6:03Speaker 2: chemistry from everybody in the camp.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Everybody has a giant roll. Everybody knows their role.
- 6:07Speaker 2: No one's trying to be more than they should. Everybody
- 6:11Speaker 2: else a pecking order. Everybody works in unison, and you
- 6:13Speaker 2: have a great fight night. That's how it's supposed to go.
- 6:17Speaker 2: If you add people in who don't have the same
- 6:19Speaker 2: agenda as you do, or have another agendable, shit, he
- 6:22Speaker 2: just cashed out. His next fight's gonna make a bunch
- 6:24Speaker 2: of money. I'm only here for the check. That's not
- 6:27Speaker 2: the people you really want your corner. You want people
- 6:29Speaker 2: work in the corner. They're gonna be honest with you,
- 6:31Speaker 2: that got your best thoughts in place, and you also
- 6:37Speaker 2: want people who are gonna be there for you, uh
- 6:42Speaker 2: not just as a boxer, as a person. So if
- 6:45Speaker 2: you were to get new people, not saying it be
- 6:47Speaker 2: impossible to get people who have his best benefit of heart,
- 6:50Speaker 2: but there's no.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Guarantee of that. So with all that being said.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I think it's best that probably retire and you know,
- 6:58Speaker 2: got a huge payday and enjoy the rest of his
- 7:01Speaker 2: life when I'm putting self in danger and also not
- 7:04Speaker 2: to find a whole new staff for people to have
- 7:06Speaker 2: to work for him for a potential fight.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I I do very much believe in
- 7:13Speaker 1: the old adage of everyone's replaceable when it comes to work,
- 7:16Speaker 1: you know, business, that kind of things I do. But
- 7:18Speaker 1: it is different. You know, you can't just say that
- 7:20Speaker 1: and have that be a universal truth with with boxing.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Like you said, these are your relationships that fighters built
- 7:25Speaker 1: for years. And here's the thing. You want to say,
- 7:28Speaker 1: everybody's replaceable in the job where you're doing paperwork, Okay,
- 7:31Speaker 1: that's fine, but this is somebody putting you're putting your
- 7:33Speaker 1: life on the line, and you're putting your your lives
- 7:36Speaker 1: in you know, your team's hands to get in that ring.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So well, I do believe that it's true. It's also
- 7:42Speaker 1: not the same as as you know, being replaceable as
- 7:45Speaker 1: even if you're a manager at Pure One Imports or
- 7:47Speaker 1: whatever you know. So yeah, I mean, I mean and
- 7:50Speaker 1: and like I said, good for him going out after
- 7:53Speaker 1: you know, having a really good manner year. And and
- 7:56Speaker 1: it's just kind of kind of here's I guess we
- 7:59Speaker 1: call it the meme of the year is him, Uh.
- 8:06Speaker 2: He did God's work on the way out in this
- 8:09Speaker 2: in this raid. I'm not happy that he participated in
- 8:12Speaker 2: this raide, but it started a purpose. Like I'll give
- 8:15Speaker 2: him a past what he did.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Sure, And this is yeah, speaking in hindsight after you
- 8:20Speaker 1: know what happened in his decision to move on, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: I see it in a different light now, so I'll
- 8:24Speaker 1: be I'll be fair of this healthy how he goes
- 8:26Speaker 1: out then you know, hey, it could have been a
- 8:27Speaker 1: lot worse, right, But yeah, Tyson Fury, you know, unsurprising
- 8:33Speaker 1: everybody unretired for you know, the fourth or fifth time.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I don't really have a lot to say on that.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I just kind of wanted to to say this. Uh,
- 8:42Speaker 1: this makes me believe that Bud Crawford is gonna stay retired.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And I can't back this up with anything other than
- 8:48Speaker 1: just vibes. Because Bud Crawford it seems like a genuine dude,
- 8:52Speaker 1: like a real dude. Tyson Fury does not seem like
- 8:55Speaker 1: a real dude. It seems like a persona. It's like this,
- 8:59Speaker 1: like when Larry the Cable Guy and and Andrew Dice Clay,
- 9:02Speaker 1: That's that's not them. Those are personas. There's a guy named,
- 9:05Speaker 1: you know, Dan Whitney who just we don't see anymore
- 9:09Speaker 1: on on TV or anything. Right, that's can I feel
- 9:11Speaker 1: about guys like Tyson Fury. Ryan Garcia is not a
- 9:14Speaker 1: real dude? Hell even Floyd he doesn't seem like a
- 9:17Speaker 1: real just a real person you're talking to that you
- 9:19Speaker 1: could talk to at a bar.
- 9:21Speaker 3: But ironically that is not the case.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Floyd is very approachable basically when it comes like young
- 9:29Speaker 2: kids and stuff.
- 9:30Speaker 3: He's Floyd and more approachable probably than he should be,
- 9:33Speaker 3: if that makes sense.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Okay, with that being said, I gee, what you're saying,
- 9:40Speaker 2: Tance Crawford's probably retiring because there's no more big fights
- 9:42Speaker 2: for him, like fighting Canela who you know who will
- 9:45Speaker 2: cover later? The timeline is probably don't match up, so
- 9:49Speaker 2: that probably don't work. Uh, there's no one else for
- 9:52Speaker 2: him to fight to make the money he's he should
- 9:53Speaker 2: make for fights playing simple Uh Fjory can fight people
- 9:58Speaker 2: for big money.
- 9:59Speaker 3: There's people out there he fight. He can run it back,
- 10:02Speaker 3: but you sick he can.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, we're not gonna see another
- 10:05Speaker 2: wat or fight, but there's there's things we can see
- 10:07Speaker 2: for him to where he's making the money he wants
- 10:10Speaker 2: to make. So I understand why he's coming back because
- 10:13Speaker 2: there's probably a fight or two he's been approached with.
- 10:16Speaker 2: He ain't coming back just to fight for the minimum.
- 10:18Speaker 2: We know that there's probably last fight. I believe he
- 10:23Speaker 2: made like forty million or something like that, or fifty
- 10:25Speaker 2: million if I'm not mistaken. So if that's the case,
- 10:29Speaker 2: you're not gonna bypass that just like es see this
- 10:33Speaker 2: economy with everything going on, Nah nah, we need that
- 10:37Speaker 2: one last big.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Big check.
- 10:40Speaker 1: That's a very good point. I guess at some point
- 10:42Speaker 1: we kind of shouldn't expect everybody to stay retired if
- 10:46Speaker 1: they can still you know, get their way into the ring,
- 10:49Speaker 1: because yeah, times are tough. Everything's getting more expective, and
- 10:52Speaker 1: you know, you it doesn't matter how much money you make.
- 10:54Speaker 1: You can lose every bit of a bag you have.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Right well, Also everything's about tunity because what ends up
- 11:01Speaker 2: happening is this. You don't know when the opportunity is
- 11:05Speaker 2: ever gonna come again if it does. So when that
- 11:07Speaker 2: does happen, it's like, well shit, I gotta take advantage
- 11:10Speaker 2: of this because this may not be here. So if
- 11:13Speaker 2: somebody comes knocking out forty fifty million and you know
- 11:17Speaker 2: you don't have a whole lot of fights left in you.
- 11:19Speaker 2: If you let that forty fifty million walk off the door,
- 11:21Speaker 2: that's not coming back. It's not like being in your
- 11:23Speaker 2: twenties or thirties where it's like, ah, i'll take a breaker,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I won't fight this person. You can get away with
- 11:29Speaker 2: that at that age because you'll have more fights. At
- 11:31Speaker 2: this age, we got one of we got a possible
- 11:35Speaker 2: of a fight.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So yeah, when I'm gonna I would watch a tysonterior
- 11:41Speaker 1: fight because I try to watch all the fights. But
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be excited about it or you no no, no, no, no, no, yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 1: it's it's it's one of those how about this, I
- 11:49Speaker 1: wouldn't break plans to watch the next thing? Yeah yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 1: if there's like there's like a concert I really want
- 11:58Speaker 1: to go see or something, or like, hell, leave it
- 12:00Speaker 1: a movie that I really want to go see on
- 12:02Speaker 1: that night near Saturday night, I'll go. I'll go check
- 12:05Speaker 1: that out. I don't know, I had, I wouldn't expect
- 12:09Speaker 1: a Wilder fight, it I would. I don't know. I've
- 12:13Speaker 1: I would be somewhat interested in an USK trilogy, but
- 12:17Speaker 1: that's mostly because I want to see you suit back
- 12:19Speaker 1: in the ring. You know, I just want to see uh.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I just want to see him fight somebody and just
- 12:23Speaker 1: get back there because I think he still has got
- 12:25Speaker 1: some guests in the tank, and I don't know if
- 12:27Speaker 1: he's thinking about retirement. He was talking about a Wilder fight.
- 12:30Speaker 1: We mentioned that if he does do that, like is
- 12:33Speaker 1: he gonna keep going or is he on his way out?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Same thing if he does, if he hangs it up,
- 12:38Speaker 1: he's gonna go out on top. Has an amazing career.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But I want to see that man back in the ring, Davin.
- 12:43Speaker 1: He's just so good. He's just too good.
- 12:46Speaker 3: That's fair. That's fair.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Switching topics and speaking of people that don't necessarily need
- 12:52Speaker 1: the money to fight and whose retirement we have discussed
- 12:56Speaker 1: before on the show as well. Canel Canel Elvarez uh
- 13:00Speaker 1: popped up on social media throwing punches after an elbow
- 13:04Speaker 1: surgery that he needed to have after the Crawford fight.
- 13:07Speaker 1: So uh, he's saying he's gonna be back in the ring,
- 13:09Speaker 1: but he's saying that he very likely will miss his
- 13:12Speaker 1: secret and Myo fight.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Yeah, you see him.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Probably back in September at the earliest, which is a
- 13:18Speaker 1: big deal because that's been his bread and butter. He's
- 13:20Speaker 1: been the king of singing to Mao for what is
- 13:23Speaker 1: it like at least a decade, maybe longer longer. So
- 13:29Speaker 1: the bigger question, same thing. I don't really have a
- 13:31Speaker 1: lot to say about Canelo specifically coming back, other than
- 13:33Speaker 1: I'll say this, I'm still a fan. I'll always be
- 13:36Speaker 1: a fan. He comes back, I'll be there, I'll watch it,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I'll watch the fight. I'll be excited. I'll get hyped
- 13:41Speaker 1: for it. You know he has lost the butt, doesn't
- 13:44Speaker 1: I don't think he's like a bomb or a loser
- 13:46Speaker 1: or anything. He just got up block still got out classed,
- 13:49Speaker 1: and that happens. Does my thing is sincred to Mayo
- 13:54Speaker 1: is wide open. David Benavitez wants to slaughter it. Has
- 13:57Speaker 1: slotted in there to fight Amirez second in Vegas. So
- 14:03Speaker 1: what I really want to know, especially specifically from you Jamison,
- 14:06Speaker 1: as an outsider looking in, I see single to Mayo
- 14:09Speaker 1: in Vegas as a big deal. Is it still has
- 14:12Speaker 1: it changed? Is something that can still make a name?
- 14:15Speaker 1: You know? Has Dave been a vida slotting himself up perfectly?
- 14:17Speaker 1: Or is it just because do people take it for
- 14:19Speaker 1: granted because there's always a secret of Mayo weekend? What
- 14:22Speaker 1: are your thoughts on that? So mine?
- 14:24Speaker 2: I just want to correct my that's want to be
- 14:25Speaker 2: for sure. Benavidez is Mexican.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Correct, he's Mexican American, so he wasn't born in Mexican.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But yes, absolutely, yes.
- 14:35Speaker 2: That part is huge. As long as he's Mexican, he's fine.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Canel is not gonna be around forever. There's gonna be
- 14:40Speaker 2: another guy there places that single to Miyo slot. Eventually
- 14:43Speaker 2: you might as well start now. However, it is mid January.
- 14:47Speaker 2: We got three and a half months to single to Mao.
- 14:50Speaker 2: The marketing has to start now because they have been
- 14:53Speaker 2: a videz. His name is not as big as some
- 14:55Speaker 2: of the other names that have had that slot for years,
- 14:58Speaker 2: so you need that marketing. Also, you need a a card.
- 15:01Speaker 2: You can't have David Benavide in three you know, three
- 15:05Speaker 2: random fights that wouldn't be on TV anywhere else. That
- 15:07Speaker 2: can't happen. You need to have a really strong card
- 15:10Speaker 2: because our Mexican people, brothers and sisters are gonna always
- 15:14Speaker 2: come out here for someone to mile. They always gonna
- 15:16Speaker 2: support their fighters. I love that about them. I love,
- 15:19Speaker 2: love love it, whether it's in La Phoenix, Texas, Vegas,
- 15:24Speaker 2: they come out and drove and support their people and
- 15:27Speaker 2: I love it.
- 15:28Speaker 3: However, with everything going on right now, it better be
- 15:31Speaker 3: a good card.
- 15:32Speaker 2: You can't just have David Benavida is fighting out here
- 15:35Speaker 2: in Vegas and that's it. That's not gonna work. Gotta
- 15:38Speaker 2: have a really good card. You also have to market
- 15:43Speaker 2: it very well. You have to market on different platforms,
- 15:47Speaker 2: different outlets to making sure it's a lot. You need
- 15:50Speaker 2: the average person to be like Hume Can, I was
- 15:52Speaker 2: not fighting, this is gonna mile, but who's this guy.
- 15:54Speaker 2: You need those kind of things in your favor, and
- 15:57Speaker 2: I don't know if the powers that be are able
- 16:00Speaker 2: to do that or are.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Willing to do that, because that's what's needed as of
- 16:03Speaker 1: right now. Well, and I will say this, I don't
- 16:06Speaker 1: think we know anybody else was fighting, but it was
- 16:09Speaker 1: mentioned in an article making that way you will you know,
- 16:11Speaker 1: but it's it's supposed to be a Mexican centric card
- 16:16Speaker 1: for the Benavitaz fight, so and and his opponent is
- 16:20Speaker 1: also Mexican. So it seems to be that there are
- 16:24Speaker 1: kind of no know exactly what they're doing. And this
- 16:27Speaker 1: is another Riat season event put on by the Saudist,
- 16:30Speaker 1: so it seems like they're kind of ever thinking the
- 16:32Speaker 1: right thing about this, but it.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Helps, it helps a lot.
- 16:37Speaker 2: The issue is this have to market it very very well,
- 16:40Speaker 2: because the one thing we both know is this Vegas
- 16:44Speaker 2: is not the same Vegas we grew up with. Vegas
- 16:46Speaker 2: is very expensive. You got to give her a reason
- 16:49Speaker 2: for people to come here. And if there's no marketing
- 16:51Speaker 2: for said fight, it could get rough because Vegas, you're
- 16:57Speaker 2: paying for so many things and I'm assuming to will
- 17:00Speaker 2: not be cheap. So with that being said, you really
- 17:03Speaker 2: got to put together a really good card. You got
- 17:05Speaker 2: to incentivize the fan, the boxing fan, to come out
- 17:09Speaker 2: here and watch a good nut of boxing in May.
- 17:13Speaker 2: You really have to. I just don't know if that
- 17:16Speaker 2: is going to be done with React season because of
- 17:21Speaker 2: how they do things. They just throw money at stuff.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They don't necessarily have the proper marketing. It's just hey, here,
- 17:28Speaker 2: here's money for this, here's money for that.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And that's cool.
- 17:31Speaker 2: But you can do both, especially if you know the
- 17:34Speaker 2: data is three and a half months out. So that's
- 17:36Speaker 2: something that we need to have on social media. We
- 17:38Speaker 2: need to have all different outlets. It needs to be
- 17:40Speaker 2: everywhere because his name is not as big as other guys,
- 17:43Speaker 2: so you got to get his name as big.
- 17:45Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're definitely fans of David Bennavitez, but I
- 17:50Speaker 1: would agree, yes, his name isn't isn't there like as
- 17:52Speaker 1: the people that have done it before. But do you
- 17:55Speaker 1: think that you that do you think that to the
- 17:57Speaker 1: secret demount we can can make a name for so
- 18:00Speaker 1: or is it that? Is it that it's because yeah,
- 18:03Speaker 1: it seems like it's already given to the people that
- 18:06Speaker 1: are already big big names. Can this be a launching
- 18:09Speaker 1: pad forum for something better?
- 18:11Speaker 2: Always, because as long as you fight often and you
- 18:14Speaker 2: knock people out or stop people, that will be That's
- 18:19Speaker 2: how you get the general people is by stopping people
- 18:22Speaker 2: and powerfully. If you stop people powerfully, you'll get the
- 18:27Speaker 2: general sports fan. And then once people keep hearing your name,
- 18:30Speaker 2: they will automatically tune in because they know who you
- 18:32Speaker 2: are now. They keep saying, hey, this day, but if
- 18:34Speaker 2: he does, dude her, he's nice. I heard he's you know,
- 18:38Speaker 2: that's how it goes. So in order to grow some
- 18:42Speaker 2: grow a guy like this into that next step, it's
- 18:46Speaker 2: a full on press of marketing. Want to making sure saying, hey,
- 18:53Speaker 2: this guy's actor is fighting twice a year, this is
- 18:56Speaker 2: the plan, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Then yeah, at worked, it has got to be consistent
- 19:01Speaker 3: because the one thing you don't want is to have
- 19:04Speaker 3: any positible in him stop because once it's stopped, it's
- 19:07Speaker 3: very hard to get back.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and the guy, the guy puts on great shows,
- 19:11Speaker 1: he has a lot of knockouts. So you know, for me,
- 19:14Speaker 1: I feel personally it's kind of hard to gauge where
- 19:17Speaker 1: Benavitez is in the general boxing conversation because I'm in Tucson,
- 19:21Speaker 1: he's in He's from Phoenix, so there's a lot of
- 19:23Speaker 1: built in fandom here. You know, he's he's he's my neighbor.
- 19:27Speaker 1: But it's I know that he's not as big as
- 19:29Speaker 1: he should be, not yet, but it's just hard. It's
- 19:32Speaker 1: hard to know when he crosses that line, you know
- 19:34Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like for me, but yeah, I mean
- 19:39Speaker 1: the uh, I think he's kind of the guy. Buddy
- 19:42Speaker 1: of mine and I were just chatting about boxing, uh,
- 19:45Speaker 1: not too long ago, just at a bar, and uh
- 19:48Speaker 1: we mentioned, you know, who's who's the next mech infighter
- 19:51Speaker 1: after Canelo. I said, David Benavidez is a good choice.
- 19:54Speaker 1: My buddy said, well, yeah, he's not from Mexico. He's
- 19:56Speaker 1: Mexican American. His mom is actually his dad is Mexican,
- 19:59Speaker 1: his mom is from But he did make a point
- 20:02Speaker 1: to say, well, you know, it used to be Hunus
- 20:05Speaker 1: that Chilvis was the guy, and then we went to
- 20:07Speaker 1: Oscar de Laio, who was Mexican American. So it's like
- 20:09Speaker 1: we get one and we get one and then another
- 20:11Speaker 1: one Mexican and Mexican American, so this could be sort
- 20:15Speaker 1: of history repeating itself for him. I know, are our
- 20:21Speaker 1: guest scale Falconshol last episode mentioned that she thinks Lean
- 20:24Speaker 1: I mean could be Oscar de point oh. I've seen
- 20:29Speaker 1: him fight, you know, kids got skills. But at the
- 20:31Speaker 1: same time, he's still wet behind the years, you know,
- 20:34Speaker 1: so I don't see if he really really does become
- 20:37Speaker 1: Oscar two point oh when he becomes like huge star,
- 20:40Speaker 1: big name and in Mexican boxing, It's not going to
- 20:42Speaker 1: be this year, maybe next year. It's hard to say.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Oscar had a McDonald's commercial. Bro like it takes, like
- 20:51Speaker 3: throw his name around is way way different. Besides the
- 20:54Speaker 3: boxing alone, Oscar was a star out of the ring,
- 20:58Speaker 3: and I don't know if that part because being Oscar
- 21:01Speaker 3: in the ring is one thing. He was the HELLI
- 21:02Speaker 3: fighter in his prime, There's no question about that earlier.
- 21:05Speaker 3: We're not going to debate that today.
- 21:07Speaker 2: However, the crossover star he became, I think that's what
- 21:12Speaker 2: she may be whole. I think she had to refer to,
- 21:15Speaker 2: and that's something that we're far away from because even
- 21:18Speaker 2: though the Olympics were ninety two, when people knew Oscar
- 21:21Speaker 2: a little bit of that. We knew the average sports
- 21:24Speaker 2: fan ne who Oscar dela Hoya was in the nineties
- 21:26Speaker 2: and early two thousands. We got to get back to that.
- 21:30Speaker 2: That's where I think we're missing the bridge at when
- 21:33Speaker 2: it comes to these guys.
- 21:35Speaker 1: That's a very good point. Yeah, he is a mainstream star,
- 21:38Speaker 1: but again, are we do we have boxers that can
- 21:41Speaker 1: be mainstream stars? I don't. I don't see of course
- 21:43Speaker 1: do they say, of course Steven.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Is doing a mcdadle's commercial. Because here's the thing, his personality.
- 21:49Speaker 2: For instance, Tank was our best shot as a best
- 21:52Speaker 2: crossover star for a lot of reasons.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Knockout artists, little guy people love little guys like I
- 21:57Speaker 3: don't care how he's that person loves a little guy.
- 22:00Speaker 2: That's that's amazing at sports. Unfortunately Tank went Tank. So
- 22:04Speaker 2: that's a whole different show topic. I don't want to
- 22:07Speaker 2: go about over right now. Uh, there's a few got help.
- 22:11Speaker 2: If Tans Crawford was five years younger, he would be
- 22:14Speaker 2: in every sports conversation.
- 22:16Speaker 1: There is is best athlete in the world.
- 22:18Speaker 3: It is that he's just our age, you know. So
- 22:21Speaker 3: that's that's the difference. That's the issue. No, a boxer
- 22:24Speaker 3: could definitely be in the everyday sports fan's mind. That's
- 22:29Speaker 3: where they're Boxing is still popular enough, it's still active
- 22:32Speaker 3: enough for that. The problem is the boxers we have
- 22:36Speaker 3: right now, they haven't one.
- 22:38Speaker 2: They don't fight often enough. That's still that's still my
- 22:41Speaker 2: biggest appoint They are not active enough. Secondly is they're
- 22:46Speaker 2: all not all, but most for the most part, they're
- 22:49Speaker 2: kind of quiet. They're all kind of to themselves. There's
- 22:53Speaker 2: no one that's like a big start out the ring
- 22:55Speaker 2: for whatever reason. And the ones that are big stars
- 22:58Speaker 2: off the ring, they're not good in the ring anymore.
- 23:00Speaker 2: So that's the mixture that we got to figure out.
- 23:03Speaker 2: But no, if the good boxer that becomes a megastar
- 23:08Speaker 2: in this country or in our society, there's still a
- 23:11Speaker 2: room for that, no doubt, no doubt about it, because
- 23:13Speaker 2: people still watch boxing. They still watch no matter how
- 23:16Speaker 2: no matter what apps you download, and people still watch.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and I can see where you're coming from. I'm
- 23:22Speaker 1: a little bit more skeptical on that, just based of
- 23:25Speaker 1: on just how prominent it's, how prominent it is, not
- 23:29Speaker 1: based on back in the day, we've had these conversations
- 23:31Speaker 1: about growing up in the nineties and movies that depicted
- 23:34Speaker 1: mainstream movies about boxing. You know, I feel I'll put
- 23:38Speaker 1: it to you this way. You know, I don't really
- 23:40Speaker 1: follow any other sport. I've never followed it, been passionate
- 23:45Speaker 1: or really like invested in any other sport. But I'm
- 23:48Speaker 1: sure I can name you know, football players, basketball players,
- 23:51Speaker 1: and I don't feel that UFC fighters for sure. I
- 23:54Speaker 1: don't can't. I don't think I've ever watched a full
- 23:56Speaker 1: UFC card and start to finish. But there's you know,
- 23:58Speaker 1: guys whose names I know, and I feel that I'm
- 24:02Speaker 1: that guy for other people who don't follow boxing. You
- 24:05Speaker 1: know what I'm saying.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Uh, our great producer just posted this in our in
- 24:11Speaker 2: our check. Consider this A thousand UFC events every year,
- 24:17Speaker 2: and the biggest fight events each year remain boxing matches.
- 24:21Speaker 2: So at the end of the day, no matter what
- 24:23Speaker 2: era or slunk we have in boxing or whatever, people think,
- 24:27Speaker 2: boxing is still boxing. And the key is we need
- 24:30Speaker 2: the perfect storm with people fighting, often, people being entertaining
- 24:34Speaker 2: while fighting, and also being cool or marketable outside of
- 24:38Speaker 2: the ring. We haven't had that mixture in quite some time.
- 24:41Speaker 2: When Floyd wasn't beating up women allegedly that he was
- 24:46Speaker 2: the perfect mix. But once he had a DV case
- 24:49Speaker 2: that was done. You know, that was that was out.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Uh Tans Crawf was on top rank, that was out.
- 24:56Speaker 2: You mentioned tank uh Shakur Stevenson is interesting.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I think he could be it, but his fighting style
- 25:02Speaker 3: is so boring to something that he would need to
- 25:05Speaker 3: knock people out in the ring and do it impressively
- 25:08Speaker 3: and quickly. It fights to get that.
- 25:11Speaker 2: He but he does have to look, he does talk
- 25:13Speaker 2: a lot, he is active, he is outside, as I say.
- 25:17Speaker 2: But with that being said, you need more.
- 25:20Speaker 3: You need more than him, because one he might only
- 25:23Speaker 3: fight twice a year, the way he fights doesn't necessarily
- 25:27Speaker 3: suggest a guy that the average sports fan wants to see.
- 25:30Speaker 3: You need the guys that entertain while also while also
- 25:33Speaker 3: boxing at a high level. And that's something that we
- 25:36Speaker 3: have not seen lately.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's really where I'm coming from. You know,
- 25:42Speaker 1: I'm not and I'm not trying to be a negative
- 25:45Speaker 1: Nancy here. You know, you're talking to the guy who's
- 25:46Speaker 1: absolutely the only sport I truly love is boxing. I
- 25:50Speaker 1: just yeah, I just don't see. I don't see what
- 25:54Speaker 1: we used to see. And yes, it could be that
- 25:57Speaker 1: this is just a low point of slump, as you said,
- 25:59Speaker 1: and we'll be back. But no, that's interesting, a really
- 26:02Speaker 1: good point thanks to our producer Jabari. Yeah, I would
- 26:06Speaker 1: not have thought that the biggest events are still boxing matches,
- 26:10Speaker 1: because really, in casual conversation, I'm speaking anecdotally, all the
- 26:14Speaker 1: people that I talk to are excited about UFC matches,
- 26:17Speaker 1: and I'm the one telling them. By the way, Canelo
- 26:20Speaker 1: over Scrawford is a big fuck deal. By the way,
- 26:23Speaker 1: Shakur versus Tao, like, you should look at that. And
- 26:26Speaker 1: you know, everybody's always thinking about, you know, talking about, oh,
- 26:29Speaker 1: it's a major fight between such and such an Israel
- 26:32Speaker 1: Adisanya and some other guy that I whose dame I've
- 26:36Speaker 1: never heard of, you know, but hey, you know, it's
- 26:40Speaker 1: good to know that. At the end of the day,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I do believe this. I believe boxing is always going
- 26:44Speaker 1: to be in the conversation one way or another. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: don't feel that, you know, we're ever gonna lose it
- 26:49Speaker 1: as a sport. And you're right, no matter how many
- 26:51Speaker 1: apps people have to download, boxing is ingrained in the
- 26:54Speaker 1: culture just as much as baseball is. Unfortunately, because baseball
- 26:58Speaker 1: is boring, as shit and I hate it, but but
- 27:02Speaker 1: I I just I feel a little skeptical that our
- 27:05Speaker 1: boxing stars can be, like I don't know, I guess.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Needed to be crossover stars. That's where I don't That's
- 27:12Speaker 2: I think that's the issue.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Where the average American person is bringing them up when
- 27:16Speaker 3: it comes to favorite athletes or most dominant athletes. We
- 27:19Speaker 3: haven't had that since Floyd.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Sure. And and here's another thing too, another wrinkle that
- 27:24Speaker 1: I have to make sure to mention is Canel is
- 27:26Speaker 1: a huge star in Mexico. Tyson Fior is a huge
- 27:28Speaker 1: star in the UK. Right, Like, these are mainstream dudes,
- 27:32Speaker 1: you know, I see.
- 27:34Speaker 2: And most boxes are more popular where they're from overseas
- 27:39Speaker 2: and they are here. So even though boxing is what
- 27:42Speaker 2: it is here, said boxer from whatever country.
- 27:45Speaker 3: They're from or whatever wherever they are, you.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Know, living at they're popular And a lot of times
- 27:52Speaker 2: box is more popular there than it's here.
- 27:53Speaker 3: In general, is talk about more. They think it's seriously more.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I mean, help, boxing in the UK is way different
- 28:01Speaker 2: and they saw football stadiums regularly, so you can take
- 28:04Speaker 2: that for what it is.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah, all of that say, you know, I'm really pulling
- 28:10Speaker 1: for for David Benavitez to become a crossover star, and
- 28:13Speaker 1: you know, hopefully with this fight, well we're gonna talk
- 28:15Speaker 1: a lot more about it because it is a few
- 28:17Speaker 1: months away, but you know, potentially being the new kingsand
- 28:20Speaker 1: single to Mayo, I don't see. There's a lot of
- 28:23Speaker 1: other stars. You know, Ben Rodriguez amazing fighter, really really
- 28:28Speaker 1: uh strong following Mexican American from San Antonio, but I
- 28:35Speaker 1: do not see at the moment his name being as
- 28:39Speaker 1: as close to mainstream as Benavitez. So I think if
- 28:42Speaker 1: we're going to talk about who's the next big name
- 28:44Speaker 1: at Sinco de Mayo, I'm betting I spend my money
- 28:47Speaker 1: on Benavidas. But also yeah, I think I think that
- 28:51Speaker 1: I think where we start is this fight needs to
- 28:53Speaker 1: be marketed as David Ben Avidas you start there, we're
- 28:59Speaker 1: off to We're off to a real good start, right,
- 29:02Speaker 1: So we'll see and just on on on that note
- 29:04Speaker 1: as well, you know, Benavidez is going up to cruiser
- 29:07Speaker 1: weight to fight better Viev Art better Viev said he's
- 29:11Speaker 1: interested in a fight. Benevida said he is interested as well.
- 29:16Speaker 1: So hopefully after this fight that's what we get because
- 29:19Speaker 1: that's really what it was pulling for a better Viev
- 29:21Speaker 1: or Beval matchup. Uh, And I think that's what's gonna
- 29:27Speaker 1: do it once people see him up against these two
- 29:30Speaker 1: guys like some of the biggest, biggest names, biggest knockout
- 29:34Speaker 1: artists or sorry people, is not a knockout artist, but
- 29:36Speaker 1: he is a big star and better be of being
- 29:39Speaker 1: one of the biggest knockout artists that we have in
- 29:41Speaker 1: the sport in the modern day. I think it's going
- 29:43Speaker 1: to be. Uh, that's really what was going to clinch it.
- 29:46Speaker 1: So I hope that happens for him. And just to
- 29:48Speaker 1: make sure that we get this note on here from
- 29:50Speaker 1: our producer, the largest UFC crowd ever was fifty seven
- 29:54Speaker 1: k and twenty nineteen when it peaked, and Canelo puts
- 29:56Speaker 1: seventy one k h and Cowboys Stadium a few years back, so.
- 30:02Speaker 3: In a radio stadium last September. So yeah, right, well.
- 30:07Speaker 1: That's a really good context. That's why. And I never
- 30:10Speaker 1: I never presumed to be an expert, So that's why
- 30:12Speaker 1: we got our intrepid producer here helping us out. So
- 30:16Speaker 1: thank you to producer. All right. Next up on the
- 30:20Speaker 1: list here, Ryan Garcia is officially set for February against
- 30:25Speaker 1: Mario Barrios. Last scene drawing against Manny Paccio. So how
- 30:30Speaker 1: much longer is Ryan gonna keep getting a shot after
- 30:33Speaker 1: you know, popping for the PDS. Uh losing his last
- 30:37Speaker 1: fight against Not here's another losing and not really performing well.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Canello lost against Cover but he looked good in the ring,
- 30:45Speaker 1: he was putting in the work right, did not do
- 30:48Speaker 1: very well against and just did he he lost? You? Okay,
- 30:54Speaker 1: you mentioned before that everybody wins ugly and that's fine.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I think losing pretty is also okay, you know what
- 31:00Speaker 1: I mean, Like, if you put.
- 31:02Speaker 3: In the effort, losing and drawing pretty can keep you
- 31:06Speaker 3: from making money, Like you can make money by doing that.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Okay, my roach is a perfect example of that, Like
- 31:14Speaker 2: you're not necessarily lose. But he had a couple of
- 31:16Speaker 2: draws recently that that has his name, a lot of
- 31:18Speaker 2: discussions going forward, and all the good fighters, the great
- 31:22Speaker 2: fighters always have one fight where it just they don't
- 31:25Speaker 2: have their fastball, but they still find a way to win.
- 31:29Speaker 2: The objective was always the win. However, when you lose
- 31:33Speaker 2: and it's ugly, he looked disinterested. You on the path
- 31:37Speaker 2: to four pm fights you want to do on the
- 31:39Speaker 2: way you could. You keep sucking around, losing fights that
- 31:42Speaker 2: you shouldn't lose and look disinterested. Because here's the thing.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Once you're just interested, we're just interested. And once that happens,
- 31:49Speaker 2: it's over and you don't get it back. That's the
- 31:52Speaker 2: thing too. Once you failed so many opportunities and even
- 31:55Speaker 2: buster apeds and you don't have nothing going on outside,
- 31:59Speaker 2: it's over and people don't have time. Beka is the
- 32:02Speaker 2: one thing I will say about boxing. There's somebody right
- 32:05Speaker 2: now working their ass off to make their debut sometime
- 32:08Speaker 2: this year, and that's gonna fight every month until they
- 32:10Speaker 2: get to where they got to get to fight every
- 32:12Speaker 2: thirdree months and then every six months, so they ain't
- 32:15Speaker 2: got time for people like this. This kind of stuff
- 32:18Speaker 2: is eventually that washed out, and it's getting watched out
- 32:20Speaker 2: a lot sooner than it used to be back.
- 32:22Speaker 1: In the day.
- 32:22Speaker 2: This type of guy is Ryan Garcia type, Jabzuto type,
- 32:27Speaker 2: Adrian Broyn type to where yes, you had boxing skills
- 32:30Speaker 2: or you're athletic or whatever, but something was wrong with you.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Those guys lasted thirty forty to fifty fights. That's not
- 32:37Speaker 2: happening no more, there's not. People aren't dedicating Tom resources.
- 32:40Speaker 2: That foolish just no more.
- 32:41Speaker 1: So if he's not.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Coming correct next month and he loses, it looks bad.
- 32:47Speaker 2: He gonna be a streamer. He's gonna be a streamer,
- 32:50Speaker 2: Henna be a part time boxer. He's gonna be fighting
- 32:52Speaker 2: when they got so when they set up the chairs.
- 32:56Speaker 2: The chairs are regular ass folding chairs. You'all see the
- 32:59Speaker 2: mlife and the Caesars and all that shit, that's just
- 33:02Speaker 2: the cover they put over them, regular ass hard seated
- 33:05Speaker 2: folding chairs. All right, He's gonna be fighting when they
- 33:07Speaker 2: setting up them ships, not putting the paddle or just
- 33:10Speaker 2: setting up the chairs. I'm telling you, man, you can't
- 33:13Speaker 2: have somebody lap luster outings and boxing them. It's just
- 33:18Speaker 2: the sport is different now, for for better or for worse.
- 33:21Speaker 2: You just can't do that.
- 33:22Speaker 1: You can't now. I definitely don't want to get another
- 33:26Speaker 1: situation where I straight up say Ryan Garcia is gonna
- 33:29Speaker 1: lose and he's gonna look like shit, because that's essentially
- 33:32Speaker 1: what I did with David Date Devin Haney, and uh,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you know, he shut my ass up saying his career Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 33:40Speaker 1: and he needed to but you know I I was
- 33:43Speaker 1: also speaking based on what we had seen from him
- 33:45Speaker 1: going uh in the past, and yeah, we haven't really
- 33:49Speaker 1: seen a lot from Ryan Garcia. I mean, his his
- 33:52Speaker 1: big win against Haney was tainted literally literally and then
- 33:57Speaker 1: you know, lost the lost the tank, lost to Rowley
- 34:00Speaker 1: and again lost to Rolie. Was looking like he wasn't
- 34:03Speaker 1: even really awake in that ring.
- 34:06Speaker 2: So I am all the respect to Roli. Rowlan is
- 34:10Speaker 2: a guy as a tune up fight guy. He is
- 34:12Speaker 2: not a guy that should be putting you to the breaks,
- 34:16Speaker 2: like that's the guy that you get ready for your
- 34:18Speaker 2: next fight with.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that I'm there kind of where you
- 34:25Speaker 1: said with Ryan Garcia of like losing interest again, still
- 34:28Speaker 1: gonna watch because I just enjoy watching advice. And I
- 34:31Speaker 1: do like Mario Barrios. I think he did he probably
- 34:35Speaker 1: should have done better against old ass Matty Pacio, but
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know, same thing. He was there to many was
- 34:40Speaker 1: there to really make a statement, and he did. And
- 34:42Speaker 1: I don't blame Mario about his performance. Plus it was
- 34:45Speaker 1: a draw, so let's let's be clear, but he did
- 34:47Speaker 1: look good in that ring. I'm how about this, I'll
- 34:50Speaker 1: say I'll say what I'm hoping for I'm hoping that
- 34:53Speaker 1: Mario Barrios comes back, beats Ryan decisively, and then yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 1: he just moves on to streaming, to you know, being
- 35:02Speaker 1: on TikTok whatever he wants to do.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Uh.
- 35:05Speaker 1: You know, if if he's got a he's low on
- 35:08Speaker 1: subscribers for his YouTube channel, he'll fight at four pm,
- 35:11Speaker 1: make some cash and then just kind of kind of
- 35:14Speaker 1: do it.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Playbox, you cannot play boxing. Boxing is very serious.
- 35:17Speaker 2: You gotta be serious mentally and physically in order to
- 35:20Speaker 2: be good in boxing.
- 35:21Speaker 3: You can't be halfway in halfway out.
- 35:23Speaker 2: If that's the case, and he will not be fighting
- 35:26Speaker 2: that much longer because the demand to see him will
- 35:29Speaker 2: go lower and lower. Now he become a streamer and
- 35:32Speaker 2: then box down the road or whatever. That's cool, whatever,
- 35:37Speaker 2: But there's like serious fights verse serious guys.
- 35:40Speaker 1: If he gets blown out in this fight, it is over.
- 35:43Speaker 1: It is over.
- 35:44Speaker 2: He will never fight under the bright lights on a
- 35:47Speaker 2: serious card again if he loses this fight.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And just to be clear and not to you know,
- 35:53Speaker 1: sound like I'm being a hypocrite or that I going
- 35:55Speaker 1: back on anything I said before. After Devin Hamiy's winning
- 35:58Speaker 1: I said I was excited to see a remac between
- 36:00Speaker 1: him and Ryan because I wanted to see it done right,
- 36:02Speaker 1: and I wanted to see that version of Devin Haney
- 36:06Speaker 1: fight Ryan and see like if you could really really
- 36:09Speaker 1: out box him and you know, kind of take the punishment,
- 36:12Speaker 1: avoid the big power shots that Ryan has, because again,
- 36:15Speaker 1: he's a big puncher, and anybody can get caught with
- 36:18Speaker 1: a really really strong power punch. So I'm not going
- 36:20Speaker 1: to say that he is absolutely he has no chance
- 36:22Speaker 1: of winning by any means. But I did say, and
- 36:26Speaker 1: I stand by that. You know, I would have rather
- 36:29Speaker 1: than Ryan fighting Mariobados, I would rather them run it
- 36:32Speaker 1: back with Hani, and you know, see what Haney learned
- 36:36Speaker 1: from his his own lackluster fight.
- 36:39Speaker 3: If you're a Hani, can you trust Ryan to be
- 36:41Speaker 3: serious for a fight?
- 36:43Speaker 1: That's a good point.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Can you risk wasting another full year dealing with this guy?
- 36:49Speaker 2: Not necessarily the pds or whatever that's obviously a thing,
- 36:54Speaker 2: but just the overall behavior of a fight, So in
- 36:58Speaker 2: a fight, you know, so you really trust that he
- 37:02Speaker 2: is mentally physically prepared to fight and market a fight
- 37:07Speaker 2: and not tape pds and not be dumb for six months.
- 37:12Speaker 3: I don't know all.
- 37:14Speaker 1: That's that's fair. I mean definitely the version of Devin
- 37:18Speaker 1: Haney that we saw at his last fight, his let's
- 37:20Speaker 1: call it his big comeback fight. That was a man
- 37:23Speaker 1: who took his goddamn job seriously. Like that man knew
- 37:28Speaker 1: that he needed to put in the work and and
- 37:32Speaker 1: look better than he ever has before. And I think
- 37:35Speaker 1: I think he might He might have actually that that
- 37:38Speaker 1: fight against Brian Norman and his fight against George Camboso's
- 37:44Speaker 1: or like right there for top tier Haney performances neck
- 37:48Speaker 1: and neck. So yeah, I would say that this let's
- 37:52Speaker 1: call it Haney two point, Oh HATI two point should
- 37:54Speaker 1: should not be messing around with with Ryan Shenanigans. Okay,
- 37:58Speaker 1: that's not a really good point.
- 38:00Speaker 2: With that being said, Devin Henny is a guy that
- 38:03Speaker 2: is a good looking guy.
- 38:05Speaker 3: But he fights like you did last time, he can
- 38:07Speaker 3: be pretty marketable. Like these are the things that we need.
- 38:10Speaker 3: We don't need.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Guys washing out the sport is not healthy enough for
- 38:14Speaker 2: guys that have a name and reputation to wash out
- 38:18Speaker 2: like Ryan Garcia washing out of boxing is not good
- 38:21Speaker 2: for the sport. That's a guy that needs to be
- 38:23Speaker 2: somewhat good at least relevant enough to fight several big fights,
- 38:27Speaker 2: will be on several big cards at least because he's popular,
- 38:30Speaker 2: people know him, he has a following, so you need
- 38:33Speaker 2: those things. If he watches up, he gets beat next month,
- 38:36Speaker 2: and it's bad. He's on the he's on the pre
- 38:39Speaker 2: six PM fights going forward. If he fights again, it's bad.
- 38:44Speaker 2: It's not good for the sport. And I'm not a
- 38:45Speaker 2: fan because I don't do shenanigans, but we don't need foolishness.
- 38:49Speaker 2: And here's the thing too, people aren't paying for unless
- 38:52Speaker 2: you're dealing with Jake Paul and all them them types.
- 38:54Speaker 3: But no one's paying. No one else paying for foolishness.
- 38:58Speaker 1: I guess if he does, we're gonna see the Jake
- 39:01Speaker 1: Paul's big comeback against Ray Garcia is kind of his
- 39:03Speaker 1: next the only thing left for him to do, uh,
- 39:06Speaker 1: to keep his name in lights. Well, you also kind
- 39:08Speaker 1: of just triggered something here that I wasn't thinking about. Uh,
- 39:12Speaker 1: you mentioned Ray Garcia needs to be serious for the
- 39:16Speaker 1: good of the sport because he has a name and
- 39:18Speaker 1: he's known, but he's known on social media. You know,
- 39:20Speaker 1: he's a big social media star. Is is Maybe that's
- 39:23Speaker 1: what's gonna be the next thing. Maybe we're not gonna
- 39:25Speaker 1: have McDonald's commercials. Crossover stars aren't gonna be on the
- 39:28Speaker 1: Wiedi's box box crossover stars. They're gonna be you know,
- 39:32Speaker 1: a huge on TikTok, and they're gonna be do TikTok
- 39:35Speaker 1: promotions and and uh, you know, going live on Instagram
- 39:39Speaker 1: promoting you know, different brands. Maybe that's what it's going
- 39:43Speaker 1: to really show what a boxing crossover stars can be.
- 39:48Speaker 2: You're absolutely correct. It's this era is gonna be different.
- 39:52Speaker 2: It's gonna be a crossover star of some way, shape
- 39:55Speaker 2: or form. The online is definitely that, that's definitely the
- 39:59Speaker 2: part of it for sure. But also you gotta be good.
- 40:02Speaker 2: You can't be sorry and be a star. You got
- 40:04Speaker 2: to be good. And right now Ryan is very popular online,
- 40:09Speaker 2: but in the ring he's sorry and his best performance
- 40:12Speaker 2: in the ring is tainted. So where we go, you
- 40:16Speaker 2: know where we go from here? Again, those things you're
- 40:19Speaker 2: putting on a fight card, I always tell people, whatever
- 40:22Speaker 2: you also in the pay per view are the main
- 40:24Speaker 2: event the last The three fights before that are the
- 40:27Speaker 2: ones on TV. There's a bunch more before that. Right now,
- 40:30Speaker 2: he's trending towards that way, and if a Mira Con
- 40:34Speaker 2: who was a better boxer than him, wound up at
- 40:37Speaker 2: the four forty five fights, Ryan Garcia will two.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I let's be very clear with the audience here
- 40:45Speaker 1: that isn't watching us on YouTube. We're both thirty nine,
- 40:47Speaker 1: you know we're not. I'm I'm on social media, but
- 40:51Speaker 1: it's not the same way that like a twenty something
- 40:53Speaker 1: year old kid is on social media, so right, I
- 40:55Speaker 1: also don't I can't gauge you know, what makes what
- 40:59Speaker 1: really makes it's like a TikTok celebrity, you know, just
- 41:03Speaker 1: because they come across my feet. I'll compare to this.
- 41:07Speaker 1: This is what really makes me feel old is music.
- 41:09Speaker 1: If I'm going through music, going through a playlist, and
- 41:11Speaker 1: I'll listen to a song, you know, I mostly listen
- 41:13Speaker 1: to that music. I hear a news I'm like, oh man,
- 41:16Speaker 1: this song sound good. Let me check out their you know,
- 41:18Speaker 1: their profile, and it says like twenty seven million listeners.
- 41:22Speaker 1: I literally just find out who the hell this was today.
- 41:25Speaker 1: So that's how I feel with music, new music and
- 41:30Speaker 1: TikTok celebrities. I'm not even like crapping on them or anything.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Or you know, good, good for them. I'm not talking
- 41:37Speaker 1: bad about them. I don't life. You know, I'm too
- 41:40Speaker 1: old for that. My knees or my knees are not
- 41:43Speaker 1: a TikTok user's knees know so, So I don't know. Yeah,
- 41:48Speaker 1: maybe you know. A crossover star is somebody that just
- 41:51Speaker 1: is huge on TikTok that I've will never hear of
- 41:54Speaker 1: outside the ring, and that's going to be great for
- 41:56Speaker 1: them and their brand. I don't know.
- 41:58Speaker 2: But the key, the main thing is always the main thing.
- 42:01Speaker 2: You can pop on TikTok on stream on another sport
- 42:06Speaker 2: with a celebrity couple on nine. You better not be
- 42:09Speaker 2: sorry in the ring. The ring is key.
- 42:12Speaker 3: You better be good, you better be winning, You better
- 42:14Speaker 3: be putting on massive performances in the ring.
- 42:17Speaker 1: That's the first thing.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Because people remember that, they won't remember anything else outside
- 42:21Speaker 2: of the wabbling in the ring. If you get dropped
- 42:23Speaker 2: in the ring, we will remember you for getting dropped.
- 42:26Speaker 2: If you come out on a Saturday night fighting badly,
- 42:30Speaker 2: we don't remember that. If you drop somebody early and
- 42:33Speaker 2: you fight in a good fight, you dominate a fight,
- 42:35Speaker 2: we will remember that. We won't care about your streams
- 42:38Speaker 2: and your dances. After a while, that will wash out,
- 42:41Speaker 2: but your performances that's what matters.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Very very good point. And yeah, we'll just see where
- 42:47Speaker 1: it goes for Raining Garcia. And yeah, while we're talking
- 42:52Speaker 1: about this, I realized that two losses in a no contest, Like,
- 42:55Speaker 1: is that everything that's happened in his last three fights?
- 42:58Speaker 1: Because what if I fight on the way. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 43:01Speaker 1: that's lost in.
- 43:02Speaker 2: The no contest. You on the way to the ad man,
- 43:05Speaker 2: it's only family and friends and audience. It's has the family, friends,
- 43:12Speaker 2: the judges, the one medic that's there that may or
- 43:15Speaker 2: may not be licensed to the real medic.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Don't get there till six.
- 43:19Speaker 2: You know, you gotta have you know, you gotta have
- 43:21Speaker 2: respective man a people not here to play games with
- 43:24Speaker 2: you like they are not wait. Like the one thing
- 43:27Speaker 2: I've learned about sports, especially boxing as of late, if
- 43:31Speaker 2: you were worked it, the resources are there, they're putting
- 43:34Speaker 2: it towards you. If you're not them. Four forty five
- 43:37Speaker 2: five PM fights might as well be amateur fights. They
- 43:41Speaker 2: might as be the Friday local fights at the local
- 43:45Speaker 2: the four round fight at the local gym or warehouse
- 43:48Speaker 2: or civic center or whatever. Because don't nobody care about
- 43:50Speaker 2: them fights, and ain't nobody in the area. Nobody's in there.
- 43:55Speaker 2: It's very dog is it's so empty. You can hear
- 44:01Speaker 2: when a boxer gets hit the grunt they make very loudly.
- 44:05Speaker 3: That's how empty the arena is.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that's uh, it's it's got to be said. And
- 44:12Speaker 1: I'm sure it's the same thing for other celebrities, actors
- 44:14Speaker 1: that were on top of the world. And yeah, and
- 44:18Speaker 1: the thing about it is that I guess with something
- 44:21Speaker 1: like acting, it's not the same as you know, of
- 44:24Speaker 1: course it's crafty, got home, you got better at it,
- 44:26Speaker 1: but you know, the world can just pass you by
- 44:28Speaker 1: there's a new, hotter, younger star. But with boxing, it's
- 44:30Speaker 1: like you just got to keep working hard and taking
- 44:33Speaker 1: your training, conditioning seriously and don't walk in the ring,
- 44:36Speaker 1: you know, glazed over like it just got out of bed.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Uh that have a plan like boxing is about making
- 44:42Speaker 2: adjustments mid fight. You know, you can come out with
- 44:46Speaker 2: an agenda, but once that agenda gets neutralized in what
- 44:49Speaker 2: And it feels like these boxes don't be having plans
- 44:51Speaker 2: when they get in the ring and adversity strikes, they
- 44:54Speaker 2: just kind of shut down. It's like, that's not what
- 44:56Speaker 2: boxing is. Boxing is about, you know, reading and reacting
- 44:59Speaker 2: to what's going on and making decisions mid fight, mid
- 45:02Speaker 2: round and trying to get a w and I see
- 45:06Speaker 2: less lesson. I see guys just totally unprepared, whether it's
- 45:09Speaker 2: them on their corner, and we're seeing them lose and
- 45:12Speaker 2: they shouldn't lose fights. They loseing fights they should lose,
- 45:14Speaker 2: And next thing you know, they on the verge of
- 45:17Speaker 2: full forty five fights, and that ain't good. I'll tell you,
- 45:19Speaker 2: don't no one want to be a four forty five ya'll.
- 45:22Speaker 2: You do not get women fighting at four forty five.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Anybody can be a four forty five fighter if they.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Put the body to it and they get in shape,
- 45:28Speaker 3: all right, Ain't nobody trying to Ain't nobody trying to
- 45:31Speaker 3: celebrate going out to dinner with a full forty five fighter.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Ain't nobody Ain't nothing good on Instagram, on Twitter, on
- 45:40Speaker 3: blue stream, on uh TikTok, all the good women ain't
- 45:43Speaker 3: as a four forty five final like that.
- 45:45Speaker 1: You gotta be that gotta be like a high school
- 45:47Speaker 1: sweetheart or somebody that you are locked in with.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Get no attractive women fighting fell forty five. Brou that
- 45:52Speaker 2: ain't that didn't happen, That's not gonna take place.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I think that's the best way of the capsulated well.
- 45:58Speaker 1: And you know what, we can even bring it back
- 46:00Speaker 1: will circle a thing that I think and I'm just
- 46:02Speaker 1: speculating again only speaking on vibes. I can't back any
- 46:05Speaker 1: of this up, but the allure of a social media
- 46:09Speaker 1: trying to make a star out of somebody that fights
- 46:13Speaker 1: just you know, not super great fighters, to try to
- 46:15Speaker 1: build that person's career up because they had some hype
- 46:17Speaker 1: like a Brian Garcia liking Edgar Berlanga mind you, yes, yes,
- 46:22Speaker 1: who are not ready for the big leagues and when
- 46:24Speaker 1: they do, they flame out, so they.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Anchor situation is different because I'm not a fan of his,
- 46:30Speaker 2: but he can sell a fight because Puerto Rican and
- 46:33Speaker 2: Puerto Ricans love Puerto Rican, so he will always get
- 46:37Speaker 2: ten thousand plus in a venue on the East Coast,
- 46:40Speaker 2: primarily New York. However, you are right, he won't get
- 46:44Speaker 2: the four to forty five because he could sells. He
- 46:46Speaker 2: could sell tickets. That's the one disclaimer. If you can
- 46:50Speaker 2: sell tickets in twenty twenty six and beyond, you're gonna
- 46:53Speaker 2: be on the car, You're gonna be on the on
- 46:54Speaker 2: the main card for show, because it's only half of
- 46:57Speaker 2: people who can sell tickets. So if they business still
- 46:59Speaker 2: business about how you slice it, however, performance was he
- 47:03Speaker 2: has a lot of four him A Wow, I'm not
- 47:07Speaker 2: I'm not impressed at all. I've never I've never really
- 47:10Speaker 2: been impressed, to be honest with you.
- 47:12Speaker 1: No, And but I don't know if you remember what
- 47:14Speaker 1: his whole thing was when he was an up and
- 47:16Speaker 1: coming you know, the next big thing was that he
- 47:18Speaker 1: had like nine one round one knockouts in a row
- 47:21Speaker 1: or ten round one knockouts in a row, and you're like,
- 47:24Speaker 1: oh my god, is this like a Tyson guy? You know,
- 47:26Speaker 1: the guy's gonna put guys on the ground and fights
- 47:29Speaker 1: over in you know, one hundred and twenty seconds. Blah
- 47:31Speaker 1: blah blah. So I'm not sayking anything away from him
- 47:35Speaker 1: being able to knock somebody out in around one. I
- 47:37Speaker 1: can't do that shit, So let's be clear about right.
- 47:39Speaker 1: But when that's sort of like what your what your
- 47:42Speaker 1: hype is, try to build you up into a star,
- 47:45Speaker 1: and then you face some real diversity, you know, because
- 47:48Speaker 1: his his uh bedgro Berlanga. You know ten knock a
- 47:52Speaker 1: compilation on YouTube has like five million views. Blah blah blah.
- 47:56Speaker 1: You know that seems to kind of be the starting
- 47:57Speaker 1: up point for a lot of these young guys.
- 48:00Speaker 3: It's cute, it's cute.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Eventually, you gotta win the good fights though, we don't
- 48:05Speaker 2: care about all the other coming fights. We just don't like.
- 48:07Speaker 2: It doesn't matter. No one goes to someone's first ten
- 48:10Speaker 2: fights the first fifteen. We care about what's the now.
- 48:14Speaker 2: If you're not able to win, these are competitive and
- 48:16Speaker 2: these were not caring. He's very lucky he has a
- 48:21Speaker 2: basically a race behind him because they will support. He
- 48:25Speaker 2: has a lot of support in New York, a lot
- 48:27Speaker 2: more than I thought he did, so that will help.
- 48:30Speaker 2: But the boxing got to get better. There's so many
- 48:32Speaker 2: holes in his game to where it's like, yeah, you
- 48:34Speaker 2: should be better right now. But like you mentioned, if
- 48:37Speaker 2: you're known as a knockout artist and you didn't develop
- 48:40Speaker 2: other set skills, this is what we get. You get
- 48:43Speaker 2: through the big time being hell of flawed. You run
- 48:45Speaker 2: against somebody that sound and then now you're getting dropped
- 48:48Speaker 2: twice in your hometown. So you're right, you're.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, yeah, and just goes to show ed ar Berlanga.
- 48:55Speaker 1: You know, maybe don't bring Fat Joe out on your ringwalk. Yeah,
- 48:58Speaker 1: Fat Joe has been you know, it's been rough.
- 49:02Speaker 2: You know, last time he's sung the national anthem or
- 49:05Speaker 2: he performed from the World series they lost. You know,
- 49:09Speaker 2: he brought out Berlanga last year long got embarrassed at home.
- 49:14Speaker 2: He's been outed for lying several times on his podcast.
- 49:17Speaker 2: You know, I think it's all in good fun, but yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 2: it's uh, Fat Joe's an interesting guy. But I've never
- 49:22Speaker 2: heard anything bad about Fat Joe for whatever that is worth.
- 49:26Speaker 1: So yeah, okay, no, it's just kind of fun to
- 49:30Speaker 1: clown on him. To be quite honest with you, he
- 49:32Speaker 1: takes it.
- 49:32Speaker 2: In good sport, though it's not like it's saying, yeah,
- 49:35Speaker 2: he takes it in good spear. But at the same time,
- 49:38Speaker 2: he's always The one thing I will say is he
- 49:40Speaker 2: will rep people like Berlanga before they become MAGA stars.
- 49:44Speaker 2: So i'd say, puts it together, becomes a top five boxer, right,
- 49:47Speaker 2: Fat Joe just won't go attached to him, and Fat
- 49:49Speaker 2: Joe rock with him at this stage, which I will
- 49:51Speaker 2: talk of respect.
- 49:52Speaker 1: That's fair, that's fair. Well, that's all the Boxing News
- 49:56Speaker 1: is fit to print. Let's switch gears and move on
- 49:58Speaker 1: to our segment that we call it pop Pugilism, a
- 50:01Speaker 1: segment in which we discussed a movie or TV show
- 50:03Speaker 1: about boxing. Today, we are talking about a Let's go.
- 50:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna call this an alleged comedy. I'm not saying
- 50:12Speaker 1: that it's this is a bad movie we're talking about,
- 50:14Speaker 1: but it's listed as a comedy, and while I was
- 50:16Speaker 1: watching it, I'm like, so like where they're supposed to
- 50:19Speaker 1: be chokes, Just to get that started.
- 50:22Speaker 2: On this one, because whoever decided this one, I don't
- 50:25Speaker 2: know who our producer or whoever, but I wasn't a
- 50:28Speaker 2: fan of this one.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Okay, Well, we're talking about Diggstown from nineteen ninety two,
- 50:33Speaker 1: directed by Michael Richie, starring James Woods, Lewis Gussa Junior,
- 50:37Speaker 1: Bruce Dern and you know what, Allegedly Heather Graham, who
- 50:40Speaker 1: is in like two and a half scenes and disappears
- 50:43Speaker 1: from the movie at the end of it. But it
- 50:45Speaker 1: is very much like a movie about guys, and Heather
- 50:49Speaker 1: Graham is like, well, she's pretty, and let's put her
- 50:51Speaker 1: in there looking hot and well, we don't need her anymore.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Let's just dumper before the end of the movie. But yeah,
- 50:58Speaker 1: you know, let's let's let's go ahead and start with
- 50:59Speaker 1: you said, you know, what's what's the beef? What do
- 51:01Speaker 1: you what's your beef with this?
- 51:02Speaker 2: This wasn't in r so compared to the other items
- 51:06Speaker 2: we've watched over the last couple of years, this ain't
- 51:09Speaker 2: it why it doesn't meet it doesn't meet the standard
- 51:13Speaker 2: of the quality of films and documentaries, et cetera of
- 51:19Speaker 2: the other things.
- 51:19Speaker 1: It's very it's kind of cheesy, it's kind of kind
- 51:23Speaker 1: of like whatever.
- 51:23Speaker 2: It was like, No, it was a tough watch, just
- 51:27Speaker 2: not really like.
- 51:31Speaker 1: It's it is what it is if it's a purpose
- 51:34Speaker 1: for what we need.
- 51:34Speaker 3: But every pop vugualism film that we've had has been
- 51:40Speaker 3: better than this.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Okay, okay, it's interesting and that you that it rakes
- 51:45Speaker 1: that low. Yeah, I also started off and say I
- 51:48Speaker 1: didn't love it. I also didn't didn't find it that
- 51:51Speaker 1: painful of watch. It was more just kind of that
- 51:53Speaker 1: I was like, where is this Is this supposed to
- 51:55Speaker 1: be funny or what are you doing here? It was
- 51:59Speaker 1: It's like it's like watching a light hearted boxing drama.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I guess if you if I can described it that way,
- 52:05Speaker 1: what here we'll get into the meat of the story.
- 52:07Speaker 1: You know, James Woods is a con man. Brewce Den
- 52:10Speaker 1: is a rich guy and a small small town called Dixtown,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and James Woods tries to con Brewcetern out of a
- 52:17Speaker 1: bunch of money by betting him that they know a guy,
- 52:21Speaker 1: a boxer named Honey Roy Palmer played by Lewis Gosta Junior,
- 52:24Speaker 1: who can knock out is it ten guys? Ten boxers
- 52:28Speaker 1: and one night, And so they have a whole thing
- 52:32Speaker 1: and it's all set up from the get go. You know,
- 52:35Speaker 1: James Woods and Lewis Gousta Junior were friends from before
- 52:39Speaker 1: Louis gost Junior retired. He was a professional fighter, just
- 52:42Speaker 1: done cash fighting. So he's basically setting this up and
- 52:45Speaker 1: saying like, you know, this is my guy, but he's
- 52:47Speaker 1: pretending not to know Louis Gosa Jr. And this one
- 52:52Speaker 1: is like it's like two movies. The first half is
- 52:54Speaker 1: all the setup, the scamming, the oceans eleveny type of like, well,
- 52:58Speaker 1: how we're we gonna do this, sneak around, scam this person,
- 53:01Speaker 1: and then it's just like lots and lots of fights.
- 53:04Speaker 1: So if there was a boxing movie that you're like,
- 53:07Speaker 1: there's not enough actual action in the ring. The second
- 53:10Speaker 1: half is mostly that it's like a little too just
- 53:12Speaker 1: join it. It's like you see Lewis Gusta Junior fight
- 53:16Speaker 1: every single one of those ten dudes. So if that's
- 53:21Speaker 1: what you really want is to just watch, you know,
- 53:24Speaker 1: actors put tend bocks in the ring, like, oh, you're
- 53:26Speaker 1: gonna be like a pick and chip. But yeah, I mean,
- 53:30Speaker 1: it's hard to say that this is as much middle
- 53:32Speaker 1: of the road as I could possibly describe. There's nothing
- 53:37Speaker 1: really here that's super memorable. I forgot most of it
- 53:41Speaker 1: after it was over, to be quite Oh, I.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Forgot most of it while watching Okay it was bad, Like,
- 53:48Speaker 2: we gotta do better with the selections. Our time is
- 53:50Speaker 2: too valuable. That being said, God is given incomplete, make
- 53:56Speaker 2: it better. Incomplete talk can be nice, Yeah, because if
- 54:02Speaker 2: I give a.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Number, its gonna be rude. Place. Wait, so you're just
- 54:09Speaker 1: saying you're you're choosing not to rate it at all.
- 54:13Speaker 2: All right, I'm trying to be a better person. That's
- 54:16Speaker 2: what I deal with on a regular occasion.
- 54:21Speaker 3: You know, wanted me to be nicer this year. So
- 54:25Speaker 3: I told her I would do my best to be
- 54:27Speaker 3: nicer this year.
- 54:28Speaker 2: And of not being rude, and we cannot give negative numbers,
- 54:33Speaker 2: I would just call it a complete member. In school,
- 54:36Speaker 2: when you did a homework time it bad, they just
- 54:38Speaker 2: put complete. See me at the class.
- 54:40Speaker 1: That's what it is to see me at the class.
- 54:44Speaker 1: It's a complete.
- 54:45Speaker 2: It's a I'm gonna call your parents you are your bullshitting.
- 54:48Speaker 2: But I can't say that because it gets the rules
- 54:50Speaker 2: as a teacher. So I'm just gonna put incomplete. And
- 54:54Speaker 2: God is race for my memory bank. Get ready for
- 54:56Speaker 2: the next film that we're gonna watch.
- 54:58Speaker 1: I don't know, man, I think say all of that
- 55:00Speaker 1: is ruder than just saying negative one.
- 55:02Speaker 2: You just tell me our producer said, be rooting all caps,
- 55:05Speaker 2: so I listen.
- 55:07Speaker 1: So, well, this is I'm gonna say this. I've seen
- 55:12Speaker 1: the way worse movies than this, but I'm kind of
- 55:14Speaker 1: loving how much you hated this movie seems like movie. Yeah,
- 55:18Speaker 1: I mean so agreed, Yes, it's trash, it's not good,
- 55:22Speaker 1: But I don't know. After I could name like ten
- 55:24Speaker 1: other things that I hated more than this. What was
- 55:26Speaker 1: it specifically that just rose your eyre so much.
- 55:31Speaker 2: So my biggest issue comes to any movie is that,
- 55:34Speaker 2: like you said, I gotta be able to find the
- 55:35Speaker 2: identity of said film right away within first like fifteen
- 55:38Speaker 2: to twenty minutes.
- 55:39Speaker 3: What are we watching? Like, what are we doing here?
- 55:42Speaker 2: My might And I'm like t have with TV shows too,
- 55:44Speaker 2: Like if I don't get it within twenty minutes, I
- 55:47Speaker 2: will automatically like to start doing this stuff because mentally,
- 55:51Speaker 2: I'm always occupied with thoughts. So if something comes around
- 55:55Speaker 2: that's better or different, I'm onto the next. So that
- 55:59Speaker 2: being said, this just had no flow to It was
- 56:03Speaker 2: not engaged. It was it wasn't based on a real story,
- 56:06Speaker 2: not like that. Like, so I'm like I and they
- 56:08Speaker 2: like said it wasn't. They tried to fund it, but
- 56:10Speaker 2: it wasn't. It was cheesy.
- 56:12Speaker 1: It just was not. Nah. Nah, that's that's fair. That's fair. Yeah,
- 56:17Speaker 1: I mean, and I get that too, especially since we're
- 56:20Speaker 1: getting older. You know, I stopped hate watching things I hate.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Watched so many seasons of Dexter to the point where
- 56:26Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm never doing that again. If I just
- 56:28Speaker 1: don't care, I'm not gonna watch the next season of
- 56:30Speaker 1: whatever I believe it was seasons three or four. Stranger
- 56:35Speaker 1: Things was on my list for honestly, like over a year,
- 56:38Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm not going to watch the ship.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I'm just not. I'm sorry, Like, even if it's amazing,
- 56:42Speaker 1: I'm not really don't feel like getting invested or trying
- 56:45Speaker 1: to get invested. So I just took it off so
- 56:47Speaker 1: that I understand. Yeah, I guess I don't know. Maybe
- 56:50Speaker 1: I've just seen a lot of more bad movies that
- 56:53Speaker 1: I found this just generally was like inoffensive, you know,
- 56:58Speaker 1: didn't really like brock my World. Either way, I'm not gonna,
- 57:01Speaker 1: you know, just say it's the worst we've ever seen.
- 57:03Speaker 1: I like the Wisconsin Jr. I think it's probably like
- 57:05Speaker 1: the best part of the movie. Oh and Oliver. We
- 57:07Speaker 1: mentioned Oliver Platt. Oliver Platt. I forgot to mention that
- 57:10Speaker 1: he's in this. I always love him. He's always he
- 57:13Speaker 1: always comes to work. You know. James Woods. I was
- 57:17Speaker 1: used to be a huge fan of James Woods back
- 57:18Speaker 1: in the day, Video Drome, Awesome movie Casino. He's totals
- 57:22Speaker 1: come back in that his personal beliefs and opinions do
- 57:26Speaker 1: not rock with at all, so I'm less likely to
- 57:29Speaker 1: enjoy watching James Woods these days, but also he is
- 57:34Speaker 1: a dude who just plays scumbags most of the time. Honestly,
- 57:37Speaker 1: if you think about it, the TV show I watched
- 57:40Speaker 1: that TV show Shark for way longer than than most
- 57:43Speaker 1: most people did because I got canceled. So yeah, don't
- 57:47Speaker 1: rock with James Woods video drome rules. But that's because
- 57:49Speaker 1: David Cronenberg is amazing. ID I kind of feel like
- 57:54Speaker 1: I had more to say, but you kind of you
- 57:56Speaker 1: kind of summarize it perfectly. There's no point. I mean,
- 57:59Speaker 1: see me after class. You're bullshitting and uh we did
- 58:03Speaker 1: top to Priends. You know what, James Woods and Lewis Couster,
- 58:06Speaker 1: you need to call Michael Ritchie in the studio MGM
- 58:10Speaker 1: to have a meeting with me after class. M This
- 58:15Speaker 1: might be my favorite, This would be my favorite segment
- 58:17Speaker 1: Papili yet well, you know what, Jameson in honor of you,
- 58:22Speaker 1: we're gonna rate the well usually rate movies out of
- 58:24Speaker 1: four gloves. This one is good. Is gonna get a
- 58:27Speaker 1: big fat in complete from me as well. You know
- 58:29Speaker 1: you're I don't even know how I'm gonna like put
- 58:31Speaker 1: this on the YouTube channel. Usually I put up the
- 58:33Speaker 1: graphics of the gloves, but uh, okay, no gloves, not
- 58:41Speaker 1: even a negative. Uh, do not watch Diggs Town starring
- 58:45Speaker 1: James Woods, Lewis Gussa Junior, Oliver Platt, Brews Dern, and
- 58:49Speaker 1: allegedly Heather Graham And uh, how about this next time,
- 58:53Speaker 1: We'll make sure to pick an actual good movie and
- 58:56Speaker 1: uh that's it for that segment. Well, we'll torture Jamison
- 59:08Speaker 1: any further. Where can people find you on social media? Twitter?
- 59:11Speaker 1: At the Jamison? You know what it is?
- 59:13Speaker 2: Uh, a big got a big event coming up this
- 59:15Speaker 2: week this end of this month, got a big one.
- 59:19Speaker 2: It's it's almost like a winner takes the next step
- 59:24Speaker 2: the losers kind of like, eh, so we don't see,
- 59:27Speaker 2: we don't see and get on a car suit and
- 59:30Speaker 2: it's interesting.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Yes, I'm very excited for this. We're talking about Shaker
- 59:34Speaker 1: Stephenson versus Tailfe Malpez at the end of this month,
- 59:37Speaker 1: and so our next episode is going to be uh
- 59:40Speaker 1: cover all coverage of that and the undercard fights as well,
- 59:43Speaker 1: because it's going to air the same week of the fight.

- 1:00:53Speaker 1: We got it. We have to talk about it, don't
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: let's not do that. We have to talk about at
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: least one Rocky movie. You got it, at least one
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: at some point.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: I mean, so, here's an issue of Rocky, like it
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: goes against everything that boxing really is for, Like they
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: deliberately went out and got the most unathletic white guy
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: they could find to make him heavyweight champion of the
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: world and time where black people dominated that division and
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: got times for Rocky and his hero is want to
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: be hero ass motive.
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: I'm cool.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: We can maybe one of the newer ones, right, maybe
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: one of the spinoffs, maybe that I can I can
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: do like a creen or something like that that I
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: can rock with that. But I'm not doing No Rocky too,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: like we no, I mean, I saw it, but we
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: ain't doing that shit.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: We welcome and beating brother ain't happened on my watch,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: everybody Welcome to twenty twenty six, where Jamison already broke
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: his New Year's solution to not be rude. We're not
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: watching no damn Rocky too.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: He'd be dude, No, no, sir, no, no, that's.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: What we're gonna do, like kidding me, Like I love it, man,
