- 0:09Speaker 1: The Book of the Courses of the Heavenly Luminaries, Chapter
- 0:13Speaker 1: seventy two through chapter eighty two, Chapter seventy two The Sun,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Chapter seventy two. The Book of the Courses of the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Luminaries of the Heaven. The relations of each according to
- 0:27Speaker 1: their classes, their dominion, and their seasons, according to their
- 0:31Speaker 1: names and places of origin, and according to their months,
- 0:35Speaker 1: which Urial the Holy Angel who was with me, who
- 0:38Speaker 1: is their guide, showed me, and he showed me all
- 0:41Speaker 1: their laws exactly as they are, and how it is
- 0:44Speaker 1: with regard to all the years of the world and
- 0:46Speaker 1: unto eternity, till the new creation is accomplished, which dureth
- 0:51Speaker 1: till eternity. And this is the first law of the Luminaries,
- 0:55Speaker 1: the luminary. The Sun has its rising in the eastern
- 0:58Speaker 1: portals of the Heaven, and its setting in the western
- 1:01Speaker 1: portals of the Heaven. And I saw six portals in
- 1:05Speaker 1: which the sun rises, and six portals in which the
- 1:09Speaker 1: sun sets, and the moon rises and sets in these portals,
- 1:13Speaker 1: and the leaders of the stars and those whom they lead,
- 1:16Speaker 1: six in the east and six in the west, and
- 1:19Speaker 1: all following each other in accurately corresponding order. Also many
- 1:24Speaker 1: windows to the right and left of these portals. And
- 1:28Speaker 1: first there goes forth the great luminary named the Sun,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and his circumference is like the circumference of the heaven,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and he is quite filled with illuminating and heating fire.
- 1:40Speaker 1: The chariot on which he ascends the wind drives, and
- 1:44Speaker 1: the Sun goes down from the heaven and returns through
- 1:46Speaker 1: the north in order to reach the east, and is
- 1:49Speaker 1: so guided that he comes to the appropriate literally that portal,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and shines in the face of the heaven. In this
- 1:57Speaker 1: way he rises in the first month in the great portal,
- 2:00Speaker 1: which is the fourth those six portals in the cast,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and in that fourth portal from which the sun rises
- 2:06Speaker 1: in the first month are twelve window openings, from which
- 2:10Speaker 1: proceed a flame when they are opened in their season.
- 2:14Speaker 1: When the sun rises in the heaven, he comes forth
- 2:17Speaker 1: through that fourth portal thirty mornings in succession, and sets
- 2:21Speaker 1: accurately in the fourth portal in the west of the heaven.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And during this period the day becomes daily longer, and
- 2:29Speaker 1: the night nightly shorter to the thirtieth morning. On that day,
- 2:34Speaker 1: the day is longer than the night by a ninth part,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and the day amounts exactly to ten parts, and the
- 2:41Speaker 1: night to eight parts, And the sun rises from that
- 2:45Speaker 1: fourth portal and sets in the fourth and returns to
- 2:49Speaker 1: the fifth portal of the east thirty mornings, and rises
- 2:53Speaker 1: from it and sets in the fifth portal. And then
- 2:57Speaker 1: the day becomes longer by two parts and amounts to
- 3:00Speaker 1: eleven parts, and the night becomes shorter and amounts to
- 3:03Speaker 1: seven parts, and it returns to the east and enters
- 3:07Speaker 1: into the sixth portal and rises and sets in the
- 3:10Speaker 1: sixth portal one and thirty mornings. On account of its sign.
- 3:16Speaker 1: On that day, the day becomes longer than the night,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and the day becomes double the night, and the day
- 3:21Speaker 1: becomes twelve parts, and the night is shortened and becomes
- 3:25Speaker 1: six parts, and the sun mounts up to make the
- 3:28Speaker 1: day shorter and the night longer, and the sun returns
- 3:32Speaker 1: to the east and enters into the sixth portal and
- 3:36Speaker 1: rises from it and sets thirty mornings. And when thirty
- 3:40Speaker 1: mornings are accomplished, the day decreases by exactly one part
- 3:44Speaker 1: and becomes eleven parts and the night seven, and the
- 3:49Speaker 1: sun goes forth from that sixth portal in the west
- 3:52Speaker 1: and goes to the east and rises in the fifth
- 3:55Speaker 1: portal for thirty mornings and sets in the west again
- 3:58Speaker 1: in the fifth western portal. On that day, the day
- 4:02Speaker 1: decreases by two parts and amounts to ten parts and
- 4:07Speaker 1: the night to eight parts, and the sun goes forth
- 4:10Speaker 1: from that fifth portal and sets in the fifth portal
- 4:13Speaker 1: of the west and rises in the fourth portal for
- 4:17Speaker 1: one and thirty mornings on account of its sign, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: sets in the west. On that day, the day is
- 4:24Speaker 1: equalized with the night and becomes of equal length, and
- 4:27Speaker 1: the night amounts to nine parts and the day to
- 4:31Speaker 1: nine parts, and the sun rises from that portal and
- 4:34Speaker 1: sets in the west and returns to the east and
- 4:37Speaker 1: rises thirty mornings in the third portal and sets in
- 4:41Speaker 1: the west in the third portal. And on that day
- 4:44Speaker 1: the night becomes longer than the day, and night becomes
- 4:48Speaker 1: longer than night and day shorter than day till the
- 4:51Speaker 1: thirtieth morning, and the night amounts exactly to ten parts
- 4:55Speaker 1: and the day to eight parts, and the sun rises
- 4:58Speaker 1: from that third portal in sets in the third portal
- 5:01Speaker 1: in the west and returns to the east, and for
- 5:04Speaker 1: thirty mornings rises in the second portal in the east,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and in like manner, sets in the second portal in
- 5:10Speaker 1: the west of the heaven. And on that day the
- 5:13Speaker 1: night amounts to eleven parts, in the day to seven parts.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And the sun rises on that day from the second
- 5:19Speaker 1: portal and sets in the west in the second portal,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and returns to the east into the first portal for
- 5:25Speaker 1: one and thirty mornings, and sets in the first portal
- 5:28Speaker 1: in the west of the heaven. And on that day
- 5:31Speaker 1: the night becomes longer and amounts to the double of
- 5:33Speaker 1: the day, and the night amounts exactly to twelve parts,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and the day to six, and the sun has therewith
- 5:40Speaker 1: traversed the divisions of his orbit and turns again on
- 5:44Speaker 1: those divisions of his orbit, and enters that portal thirty
- 5:48Speaker 1: mornings and sets also in the west opposite to it.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And on that night has the night decreased in length
- 5:55Speaker 1: by a ninth part, and the night has become eleven
- 5:58Speaker 1: parts in the day seven parts, And the sun has
- 6:01Speaker 1: returned and entered into the second portal in the east,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and returns on those his divisions of his orbit for
- 6:07Speaker 1: thirty mornings rising and setting, And on that day the
- 6:12Speaker 1: night decreases in length, and the night amounts to ten parts,
- 6:15Speaker 1: and the day to eight. And on that day the
- 6:18Speaker 1: sun rises from that portal and sets in the west,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and returns to the east, and rises in the third
- 6:24Speaker 1: portal for one and thirty mornings, and sets in the
- 6:27Speaker 1: west of the heaven. On that day the night decreases
- 6:31Speaker 1: and amounts to nine parts, and the day to nine parts,
- 6:35Speaker 1: And the night is equal to the day, and the
- 6:38Speaker 1: year is exactly as to its days three hundred and
- 6:42Speaker 1: sixty four. And the length of the day and of
- 6:45Speaker 1: the night, and the shortness of the day and of
- 6:48Speaker 1: the night arise through the course of the Sun. These
- 6:51Speaker 1: distinctions are made literally, they are separated. So it comes
- 6:56Speaker 1: that its course becomes daily longer, and its course nightly shorter.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And this is the law and the course of the Sun,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and his return as often as he returns sixty times
- 7:08Speaker 1: and rises. In other words, the great luminary, which is
- 7:12Speaker 1: named the Sun forever and ever, and that which thus rises,
- 7:17Speaker 1: is the great luminary, and is so named according to
- 7:20Speaker 1: its appearance, according as the Lord commanded, as he rises,
- 7:25Speaker 1: so he sets and decreases not and rests not, but
- 7:29Speaker 1: runs day and night, and is light is sevenfold brighter
- 7:32Speaker 1: than that of the moon, But as regards size, they
- 7:36Speaker 1: are both equal, Chapter seventy three. And after this law
- 7:41Speaker 1: I saw another law dealing with the smaller luminary, which
- 7:44Speaker 1: is named the moon. And her circumference is like the
- 7:48Speaker 1: circumference of the heaven, and her chariot in which she
- 7:52Speaker 1: rides is driven by the wind, and light is given
- 7:55Speaker 1: to her in definite measure, and her rising and setting
- 7:59Speaker 1: change every month, and her days are like the days
- 8:02Speaker 1: of the sun. And when her light is uniform, in
- 8:05Speaker 1: other words, full, it amounts to the seventh part of
- 8:08Speaker 1: the light of the sun. And thus she rises, and
- 8:12Speaker 1: her first phase in the east comes forth on the
- 8:15Speaker 1: thirtieth morning, and on that day she becomes visible and
- 8:19Speaker 1: constitutes for you the first phase of the moon on
- 8:22Speaker 1: the thirtieth day, together with the sun in the portal
- 8:26Speaker 1: where the sun rises, and the one half of her
- 8:29Speaker 1: goes forth by a seventh part, and her whole circumference
- 8:33Speaker 1: is empty without light, with the exception of one seventh
- 8:37Speaker 1: part of it, and the fourteenth part of her light.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And when she receives one seventh part of the half
- 8:44Speaker 1: of her light. Her light amounts to one seventh part
- 8:48Speaker 1: and the half thereof, and she sets with the sun.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And when the sun rises, the moon rises with him
- 8:54Speaker 1: and receives the half of one part of light. And
- 8:58Speaker 1: in that night, in the beginning of her morning, in
- 9:00Speaker 1: the commencement of the lunar day, the moon sets with
- 9:04Speaker 1: the sun and is invisible that night with the fourteen
- 9:08Speaker 1: parts and the half of one of them. And she
- 9:11Speaker 1: rises on that day with exactly a seventh part, and
- 9:14Speaker 1: comes forth and recedes from the rising of the sun.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And in her remaining days she becomes bright. In the
- 9:21Speaker 1: remaining thirteen parts, Chapter seventy four, and I saw another course,
- 9:27Speaker 1: a law for her, and how according to that law
- 9:30Speaker 1: she performs her monthly revolution. And all these Uriel, the
- 9:35Speaker 1: Holy Angel, who is the leader of them, all showed
- 9:37Speaker 1: to me and their positions. And I wrote down their
- 9:41Speaker 1: positions as he showed them to me. And I wrote
- 9:44Speaker 1: down their months as they were, and the appearance of
- 9:47Speaker 1: their lights till fifteen days were accomplished. In single seventh parts,
- 9:53Speaker 1: she accomplishes all her light in the east, and in
- 9:56Speaker 1: single seventh parts accomplishes all her life darkness in the west,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and in certain months she alters her settings, and in
- 10:05Speaker 1: certain months she pursues her own peculiar course. In two months,
- 10:11Speaker 1: the moon sets with the sun in those two middle portals,
- 10:15Speaker 1: the third and the fourth. She goes forth for seven
- 10:19Speaker 1: days and turns about and returns again through the portal
- 10:22Speaker 1: where the sun rises, and accomplishes all her light, and
- 10:26Speaker 1: she recedes from the sun, and in eight days enters
- 10:30Speaker 1: the sixth portal, from which the sun goes forth. And
- 10:34Speaker 1: when the sun goes forth from the fourth portal, she
- 10:37Speaker 1: goes forth seven days until she goes forth from the fifth,
- 10:41Speaker 1: and turns back again in seven days into the fourth portal,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and accomplishes all her light. And she recedes and enters
- 10:50Speaker 1: into the first portal in eight days, and she returns
- 10:53Speaker 1: again in seven days into the fourth portal, from which
- 10:57Speaker 1: the sun goes forth. Thus I saw their position, how
- 11:01Speaker 1: the moon rose and the sun set in those days.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And if five years are added together, the sun has
- 11:08Speaker 1: an overplus of thirty days, and all the days which
- 11:12Speaker 1: accrue to it for one of those five years, when
- 11:15Speaker 1: they are full, amount to three hundred and sixty four days.
- 11:20Speaker 1: And the overplus of the Sun and of the stars
- 11:23Speaker 1: amounts to six days. In five years, six days every
- 11:27Speaker 1: year come to thirty days, and the Moon falls behind
- 11:30Speaker 1: the Sun and stars to the number of thirty days,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and the Sun and the stars bring in all the
- 11:37Speaker 1: years exactly, so that they do not advance or delay
- 11:40Speaker 1: their position by a single day unto eternity, but complete
- 11:44Speaker 1: the years with perfect justice in three hundred and sixty
- 11:48Speaker 1: four days. In three years there are one thousand, ninety
- 11:52Speaker 1: two days, and in five years one thousand, eight hundred
- 11:56Speaker 1: and twenty days, so that in eight years there are
- 11:59Speaker 1: two nine hundred and twelve days. For the moon alone,
- 12:03Speaker 1: the day's amount in three years to one thousand, sixty
- 12:07Speaker 1: two days, and in five years she falls fifty days behind.
- 12:12Speaker 1: In other words, to the sum of one thousand, seven
- 12:15Speaker 1: hundred and seventy there is to be added one thousand
- 12:18Speaker 1: and sixty two days, and in five years there are
- 12:23Speaker 1: one thousand, seven hundred and seventy days, so that for
- 12:26Speaker 1: the moon the days in eight years amount to two thousand,
- 12:30Speaker 1: eight hundred and thirty two days. For in eight years
- 12:33Speaker 1: she falls behind to the amount of eighty days. All
- 12:37Speaker 1: the days she falls behind in eight years are eighty,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and the year is accurately completed in conformity with their
- 12:45Speaker 1: world stations and the stations of the sun, which rise
- 12:49Speaker 1: from the portals through which it the sun rises and
- 12:52Speaker 1: sets thirty days, Chapter seventy five. And the leaders of
- 12:58Speaker 1: the heads of the thousands, who are placed over the
- 13:00Speaker 1: whole creation and over all the stars, have also to
- 13:04Speaker 1: do with the four intercalorie days, being inseparable from their
- 13:09Speaker 1: office according to the reckoning of the year, and these
- 13:12Speaker 1: render service on the four days which are not reckoned
- 13:16Speaker 1: in the reckoning of the year, and owing to them,
- 13:19Speaker 1: men go wrong therein, for those luminaries truly render service
- 13:24Speaker 1: on the world stations, one in the first portal, one
- 13:28Speaker 1: in the third portal of the heaven, one in the
- 13:30Speaker 1: fourth portal, and one in the sixth portal, And the
- 13:34Speaker 1: exactness of the year is accomplished through its separate three
- 13:38Speaker 1: hundred and sixty four stations for the signs and the times,
- 13:42Speaker 1: in the years and the days. The Angel Uriel showed
- 13:46Speaker 1: to me whom the Lord of Glory hath set forever
- 13:49Speaker 1: over all the luminaries of the Heaven, in the heaven
- 13:52Speaker 1: and in the world, that they should rule on the
- 13:55Speaker 1: face of the heaven, and be seen on the earth,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and be leaders for the day and the night. In
- 14:01Speaker 1: other words, the Sun, moon, and stars, and all the
- 14:05Speaker 1: ministering creatures which make their revolution in all the chariots
- 14:09Speaker 1: of the heaven. In like manner, twelve doors Uriel showed
- 14:13Speaker 1: me open in the circumference of the Sun's chariot in
- 14:17Speaker 1: the heaven, through which the rays of the Sun break forth,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and from them is warmth diffused over the earth when
- 14:24Speaker 1: they are opened in their appointed seasons, and for the
- 14:27Speaker 1: winds and the spirit of the dew when they are opened,
- 14:31Speaker 1: standing open in the heavens at the ends, as for
- 14:34Speaker 1: the twelve portals in the heaven, at the ends of
- 14:37Speaker 1: the earth, out of which go forth the Sun, Moon
- 14:39Speaker 1: and stars, and all the works of heaven. In the
- 14:42Speaker 1: east and in the west, there are many windows open
- 14:46Speaker 1: to the left and right of them, and one window,
- 14:49Speaker 1: at its appointed season, produces warmth, corresponding as these do
- 14:54Speaker 1: to those doors from which the stars come forth, according
- 14:58Speaker 1: as he commanded them, and wherein they set, corresponding to
- 15:02Speaker 1: their number. And I saw chariots in the heaven running
- 15:06Speaker 1: in the world above those portals in which revolved the
- 15:08Speaker 1: stars that never set, and one is larger than all
- 15:12Speaker 1: the rest. And it is that that makes its course
- 15:15Speaker 1: through the entire world. And of Section ten read by C. J.
