Yeah, man. All right, everybody, welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show 336. Jesus. Nothing clever. Didn't have enough time to even think of that part. [laughs] No worry. I think
• 0:33
Well, three plus three equals six. We- There we go. Good, good on you, Tony, math major. It's genuinely not a math major. Team, team, teamwork makes the dream work. That's Tony Berger over there, buddy. And Mr.
• 0:43
Sausage Fest Raceville is, uh, that's JK, fresh from the North Woods of Wisconnie. You know, fun fact- Yeah, yeah, they're here... fun fact- I'm Sven, just so you guys know, if you know. Now you know...
• 0:53
I've been everyone but one of those sausages at some point in my life. No chorizo for you? You did sausage racing? I, I actually, I think chorizo was the one I was not able to become. Okay.
• 1:03
I mean, there's, it's the newest- All because of the bike fed Push that in there a little more. There you go... it's the newest one All because of the bike fed. Now push it in there a little more. There, there you go.
• 1:12
That better? I think so. Okay. We want people to hear your quips and your, and your, you know- Yeah... all your lovely stories and- I was most of the running sausages, and it was lots and lots of fun.
• 1:23
They're hard to run in. Actually at the stadium or at events? No, at events. At bike fed events. Oh, right on. Okay. Matter of fact, I- Top heavy...
• 1:30
one of my favorite ones was rolling up to Chris Kegel and him having no clue who I was and, like, just totally, like, talking to him, like, telling him things, like, that he would be like, "Okay, who the fuck are you?"
• 1:43
You know, I got a problem with you, Mr. Chris, in saying that, you know, you sold me my first BMX bike, and then it broke [mouth pops] that frame. Yeah And you wouldn't buy it back.
• 1:54
Well- And you wouldn't replace it and you wouldn't do nothing. He's dead now, so. No, I know, but no, I got my, my Hales Corners Garage. It's gonna hang out. To be fair- I gotta keep Chris-...
• 2:02
Chris' Slow Roll is coming up on the 20th... yes, I know. It's very soon. I was like, oh, segue, segue. Yeah. Yeah, it's coming up on the 20th. Noted like a- Put that right out there... pinata.
• 2:13
It's the twen- two weeks from last Saturday, right? Yeah. Yeah. 20th, Sunday? There's something going on this weekend too. It's a Sunday. It's a Sunday. Whatever. The 20th. Yeah.
• 2:22
It's a slow roll into a neighborhood, and then you- Is it, like, the same thing where we went up to Shorewood last time or something? Probably. I think so, something like that. Eh, maybe It can be interesting.
• 2:32
It can be... If there's something, yeah. It, it'd be fun. Maybe, maybe be at the start and- Get yelled at for not being in the drone picture correctly? Well, it was hot last year if I remember right. Yeah, yeah.
• 2:44
But, uh, eh. I like, I like getting ordered around at major events like that. "You're not on the line. You're not on the line. You need to be on the line."
• 2:50
No, no, no, uh, everyone back up, up, up, up, back, back, back, back, back. Within, within, within, within, within, within, within. Yeah, it was a little- No, it's a good, it's a good time.
• 3:00
It's a- It's a good time apart from that... it's a, it's Chris' Slow Roll. It is a charity thing basically to raise money for some such- I'm quibbling on minutiae. It is good time, good to us. All right.
• 3:12
So that's September 20th, Sunday, I, apparently, as far as everybody knows. Yep. That was my... You jumped on my, uh, derailment train [laughs]. Yeah. So you- I don't even know what's happening now...
• 3:26
uh, lots has been happening. I cannot believe how many shows have been happening. I know. Look at that. Mm. I wrote down- Oh, look at your list... I wrote down what happened since last time.
• 3:36
Yeah, I was, well, I- Just like a quick, like, and I was like, "Oh, shit. Oh, shit." Are those just, are those just shows too, music-wise? No, just little- Oh, other things... yeah, things, shows and show adjacents.
• 3:45
Well, let's, uh, let's, let's attack your list and see how many you knock off. The one, the one that I put... [laughs] No, two, three, four. Yeah. Um, the stepdaughter in town with boyfriend playing at Towner
• 4:01
when he brought in his guitar. Oh, yeah. And he was very good. That was actually pretty cool. Very good. I, I, I think the other dude was like, "Well, this guy's upstaging me, man." Yeah.
• 4:08
[laughs] I mean, he was, he was doing very well. And then he got off the stage. [laughs] Yeah. He was b- becoming kind of reliant on the, this, like, sound machine-ish thing.
• 4:16
I, I d- I don't understand it, so I can't really comment on it. Well- But it was giving him some fits, and then he was monkeying with it, and I was just like, "Just shred, dude. Just play the fucking guitar.
• 4:25
That's what people really- Yeah... give a shit about"... and he, and he took his shoes off- And so, yeah... and then he, and then he shred himself... and then all went down. Yeah. Yeah.
• 4:31
Uh- Well, that was, that was a- My elbow went down... that was almost a long time ago. See that? Looks- Compression sleeves work apparently. Very good. Very good.
• 4:39
Uh, Matt motherfucking Tyner down in Walker's Point the same night that half of, uh, Riverwest was at Sabbatic for Ian Bujacki's- Ian. I'm Ian. Is he in a band? It's not Owen. It's Ian. Owen. Ian.
• 4:55
And he is in a band actually. [laughs] Yeah. Um, [laughs] That would be, uh, that's, uh, that's our good buddy Nick's brother, right? Is it? I, I know there's a connection. I'm pretty sure.
• 5:04
I can't, I can't, I- Well, brother, brother from another mother... it was fun. Whatever. Um, uh, uh, la, da, da, doo, doo, doo. What the thing, and the, uh, was, was playing there.
• 5:12
Lily Slay and The Vertebrae, that was it. They were playing. Lots of shows. And then, then Center Street Days, I believe I th- that's what you had on- Center Street Days is on here... yep, yep.
• 5:26
And then the day after, Floor Model played in Wu Tang Park. Yep. I just wandered by that. We were there. We were there. Yep, yep. I moved into a new office. Oh, how's that new, how's the, uh, new, the new digs?
• 5:37
It's colder. 63 degrees upon arrival in the morning. [laughs] Oh, wow. Yeah. Uh, floor up, floor down? Where are you? Floor down. Yeah, that's what I thought. Okay. It's interesting.
• 5:46
It's a, it's interesting, but whatever. You know, I just gotta grudge this one. Be close. Be close, dude. I gotta grudge this one for an hour, uh- Be close... hour, hour. I wish- Year... time is a flat circle.
• 5:57
Um- Another year... yep, one year and a month-ish. Nice. Something like that at least then gives me the world at my... oyster tips. [laughs] Uh, the backyard barbecue. Yeah. That was a damn fine time.
• 6:13
Uh- Didn't get Sylvan Esso. Yeah. Did not get what that was all about. They, they did a DJ set. They did a D- The dance party... I was kinda hoping their DJ set would be- Transform into- Yeah. [laughs]...
• 6:26
their s- you mean their music? Some of their music. Well, then why wouldn't they just play their music? Mm-hmm. [smacks lips] Yeah. Now, there's some- [sighs]... like weird internal maybe ethical code.
• 6:36
Possibly because of- It's bad form to play my own music. Bad form to play- S- To be DJ-ing your own music? Yeah. Okay, I'll give you that. Because it's like- Well, maybe it was-... I'm putting the needle on my own thing.
• 6:46
I don't know. I don't know. Maybe it's bad form to- I don't know. I don't know... um, upstage Superchunk and play after them But, you know, I, I wonder if there was some politics involved there- Yeah...
• 6:55
and that they both- Eh... responded to being here this year, and then there was this... 'Cause Sid is really good friends with Mac. Im- he's, he's, she's probably also good friends with people from Sylvan Esso, but
• 7:08
I wonder. Yeah. That was a really strange backyard barbecue this year. Yeah. Not being said, I had a great time. Yeah. I mean, I, it was fun. It was a, every year's a different one. Um, you know.
• 7:18
Right, and that's the fun of it. Uh- And it, it-... Know One Moon's was good and- It was a good ride down there. Yeah, we had a good ride down there. Little, little chilly on the way home. Had some, uh, chicken sliders.
• 7:28
Chicken sliders. Hit, hit Swinging Door for the first time in ages. Oh, yeah, those, those are actually really good. Chicken sliders. And they're relatively inexpensive. Yeah. I will put that on my regular list I guess.
• 7:37
I gotta say, on, on my way back from up north there, hey, we stopped at this one place in Mercer, and it, oh, I'm gonna be w- I'm gonna be spoiled against every hot dog- Oh, really?... for, for a while.
• 7:50
It's outstanding? Were they good crap hot dogs or big snappy hot dogs? Foot long snapper. Oh. [laughs] Foot, foot long, and it was- Oh... just smoked and awesome the whole way through. Oh, it sounds so good.
• 8:01
But not even, like, th- they weren't even like d- d- you know, [smacks lips] singing their own praises on the menu or whatever. I was just like, "Oh, well, that looks good. Let me... I'll give that a, a g- a shot."
• 8:14
And oh, it... Well, I g- What'd you get on it? It, well, it came three different ways. It was like a, [clears throat] [smacks lips] a plain, uh, chili cheese way,
• 8:25
um, Wisconsin way, which was how I got it, fried onions and beer cheese. Interesting. Um, then their house w- way would be in, uh, pulled pork, [smacks lips] um, pickles and something, some- No. Yeah.
• 8:41
But I mean, I- That's not, that's not my way. That is not my way... like, like, but that, but that's, yeah.
• 8:44
But I, I mean, I s- that was my yesterday meal was a lot of pulled pork, so I, I was like, "I don't need no more of that." But they, what got me really in there was they had, uh, clam strips.
• 8:57
[laughs] Just deep-fried clam strips. What's the name of this place? You gotta find the- Muskie's. Muskie's. Muskie's in Mercer. Muskie's in Mercer. Yep. It was awesome. Got a lot of Muskie references up that way.
• 9:06
They, oh- Yeah, yeah... good Lord. I... And they've just been ha- they have, like, weird contests all the time. They had a pot- a baked potato eating contest apparently t- uh, over the weekend.
• 9:16
[laughs] Five buck buy-in, $200 prize. Good grief. And then you just stand there, a- And eat baked potatoes... and just, yeah, on display. Yeah. I can already feel my, uh, blood sugar going up- Oh, yeah...
• 9:29
just because of that. And I don't care. Give it to me. [laughs] I'm all over that. It was a fun place. Yeah. J- It was one of those on the way back going like, "I don't know what's gonna be open on Labor Day." You know?
• 9:38
Well, uh, I think that they will- And that one definitely was... up that way, they only have a s- short season these days- Window of...
• 9:45
because they don't get a ton of snow lately, so the snowmobile folks are not as prevalent or as- Snowmobile... numerous as they used to be. It's like sex mobile. Yeah, and then tra- and then made it down to Hubbard.
• 9:57
Pat McCurdy. Haven't seen him in- Nice... haven't seen him in 30 years. I'm not sure. I haven't even been aware that he's playing around. I've noticed, like- He's, he's a fun-... primarily-... fun guy. Yeah. Yeah.
• 10:08
And he was. And we got so- I got to talk to him after the show and whatever, because, I don't know, he made some references at times, and it was like, uh.
• 10:16
I'm like, yeah, talking about Harpo's, which is now Club Brady, and, you know- Oh, yeah... and things of that nature, and went down, like, n- nostalgia- We used to see, uh, Soma... amnesia lane.
• 10:25
We used to see Soma there all the time. Soma, uh, Zirkle from, uh- And Brady Rail, who was a Bikesmith employee. Paul Zirkle, the owner, executive chef of Good Kind is- O- over there... was in Soma.
• 10:38
Was he a cyclist, too? He was the b- b- b- bassist of Soma. Yeah, Brady's a drummer, and, uh- Steve Sanders on guitar. Yeah, that was a long time ago. Yeah. Guitar. [laughs] Guitar. Way back in the time machine. Yeah.
• 10:52
Devil's Teeth and Daikaizu. [laughs] Yeah. Devil's Teeth was fun. I ended up with two pieces of vinyl that I easily should have probably lost on three different occasions in the course of the evening.
• 11:05
[laughs] Honestly, I mean, it was like- It's meant to be... pe- no, pe- yeah. People were like, "Dude, dude, dude, you left your stuff right there." Is one of them a Daikaizu? Yeah, one Daikaizu- Oh, okay...
• 11:13
one Devil's Teeth. I didn't realize that they... Was it a new one or...? Phase three. Okay. I have phase two on CD. Okay. I- I had to leave early 'cause babysitter obligations, and I'm like bummed out. I don't... Yeah.
• 11:27
Did you saw some of Daikaizu or none of it? I saw almost all of Daikaizu. [laughs] Oh, okay. It was just before they set stuff on fire. Oh. Oh. And yeah, and their merch- Well, yeah... table was closed.
• 11:35
It wasn't open yet, so I'm like, "Well, that's what I wanted to hit. I wanted to grab- Right. Well, yeah... what you did." And then they said, "We'll be back soon."
• 11:42
And they were, like, loading out, and I w- was like, "I'm kinda antsy," and I'm like, "Well," I'm like- Did, did anyone-... "I hate to be antsy. I hate to be antsy, but could I, uh, just, uh, grab..."
• 11:52
Did the- You know, a thing... did the lead singer- And, and the chick was like, she's like, "Oh, that's fine." And it's like, "Any-" She's like, "I don't wanna, I don't wanna load anything else out." Right?
• 11:59
[laughs] I wanna take- Well, yeah... my time with the sale. Did, uh, the lead singer of Devil's Teeth look like anyone to you guys? Doe Boy Yeah, I went- Yeah, he looked like, uh- I got in, I got into it-... Mr.
• 12:09
Vance, yeah. Yeah. He looked like JD Vance, man. I brought it up. I brought it up. Oh. But, but the bass player- But-... looked like Ed Sheehan. He did. So. They were kind of throwing it out there too- Yeah... I think.
• 12:19
I think that was the intention. And the guy lying on the floor with the saxophone, he just looked like a s- like a, a worm. He was fun. I don't know. They're good. Worming around on the floor. They're fun live. Yeah.
• 12:28
They were a fun live band. So I got, it, it was a good open- opening band for Daikaiju. To- totally. So I bought, I bought the vinyl, and then I was like, "Well, can I get y'all to sign it while you're..." You know.
• 12:39
And they did. Long as you're there. So I'm like, "Put whatever you want to, however you want to, and whatever you want to. But I mean, you know, just try not to block,
• 12:48
you know, uh, anything you think you don't want blocked, like the names of the songs and what have you on the, that cover." We, we should- And it does work out nicely. We should probably do this. Hey, Brett Newski,
• 13:02
you need to be on this podcast. Yeah, come on the show, Brett. We be talking about you. Yeah. Uh, so- But we can't travel with you... so Wendy, Wendy went to, uh, Danny Elfman yesterday.
• 13:11
Oh, that- Oh, I bet that was good. At the Aragon in Chicago. That's fucking awesome. I would love that. Guess who was playing at The Liar's Club, like, three miles away? Daikaiju. Daikaiju was playing at The Liar's Club.
• 13:20
I'm like, "You gotta go over there." The show was over at, like, 10 o'clock, and I'm like, "You should-" Oh, they could've totally gone, oh, Daikaiju... "You should just go over there and see Daikaiju."
• 13:26
I was like, "I'm trying to find somebody from up here to share a Lyft so I can- Yeah... go down there and see it, and then I can ride back with Wendy and her friend." Mm-hmm. I'm like, "Damn it." They should've went.
• 13:36
Yeah. And I got, well, and I got into town as you posted those up. Yeah. And I'm like, "You have no idea how body, mind im- I, I was, I was dealing with Danny... soul tired I am."
• 13:47
[laughs] Well, they had two opening bands too. I don't- Yeah... I don't know who they were because I didn't research it very much. I think it was- But I would've, it would've been fun to just- Yeah...
• 13:54
like- I think Robo- no, Robo-... do that one thing and then- Roboman was in Madison... get this handed to you on a plate. You're like, "Heck yeah, I'm going to that show too." Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yep.
• 14:02
I probably could've got my vinyl. Oh, yeah. So, and, and in terms of Daikaiju is very, you know, Japanese inspired. Next night El Rongo was playing at High Dive. Uh-huh. You pulled the ripcord. Sister Paul, from Japan.
• 14:15
Yeah. And it was hilarious. Oh, it was so good. I heard it. It was awesome. I heard it was really good. I bought more vinyl. I was so tired.
• 14:22
[laughs] I, I, I, I got one of his- And I bought more, but- I got one of his LPs... then you get the real Japanese, and then the- I was so tired. Oh, I get it. I get it, yeah.
• 14:30
Well, the, uh, uh, it, so they, he, he set up, like, this little, small hula hoop about this big, and it had this little m- like, robotic dog that just would g- go around and bump into the thing and go, you know, like- Deet, deet, deet...
• 14:43
wag its tail and bark and stuff. And his, he's a bass player, and she's a drummer, so it's not totally like drum and bass though really. It's like- No, no. It was his own- It's like lead bass. Yeah.
• 14:54
So he had all these pedals and stuff, but they were, like, inside a dollhouse looking thing. [laughs] Yeah. Like, pop the thing open, and it was like, it was like pedal here, pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal.
• 15:03
It, it was, it was- It was fun and clever. Yeah. And, and it was like- They were-... "Oh, shit. I gotta..." I, I actually do need to still post photos from that on the book for this- Yeah...
• 15:11
'cause I, I've been- Well, and, uh, The Cult of Nasty was with them- Right... which you have thrown some out. I, I was nasty at, nasty at Tize before, so I'm not doing it again. [laughs] Right. Uh, but,
• 15:21
you know, it's been s- there's been so much rapid fire stuff, and I'm shooting photos at most of these- Yeah... and I'm, like, not getting all of them up- Right...
• 15:29
quickly enough for my taste, but we'll get that El Rongo, The Ramone. The Ramone, yes. Which unfortunately, this guy's pretty cool. He plays Ramone songs, obviously.
• 15:40
Uh, he was playing guitar there, but normally he has a screen behind him where he's also playing- Oh, yeah. That was-...
• 15:46
drum, the drums and the bass parts of The Ramones tunes, but he didn't have his- It wasn't working... video wall working or something. It would, it would be much more clever if he had- He did a great job though.
• 15:54
But yeah, he was fun. Yeah, he was. And I, they're, they're touring, I think, semi-nationally. Sure, or regionally at least. Whatever. Yeah. Yeah, somewhat. That was, yeah, that was- Sam Elf was. Sister Paul.
• 16:04
That was- Sister Paul. I'd recommend. And I still haven't cracked the seal on any of these vinyls yet. It was fun, fun times, man. That was two great nights.
• 16:12
Except for, save, hey, speaking of DJ sets- And then there was, and then there was the damn D- Douseman Palooza the next day. Which I missed. Douseman Palooza was a little moist, but- Yeah... uh, good bands again.
• 16:23
I- Hulu Millionaires, Animatronic Birds. Yeah. I missed that. Well- Doing, tried to get Daniel... doing Dolly Parton tunes. Yeah, and- Oh, fuck... and, uh, the band, uh, what is... Oh, Spud Bucket. Yeah, Spud Bucket.
• 16:34
And, and I didn't realize that Tom Tietjen, who was the bass player in those Excleavers way back in the olden days, that's now- Spud, yeah... his band.
• 16:42
W- and they're playing, by the way, I think Thursday night or Saturday. Saturday, whatever. Sometime very soon out at the Corazon in Brown Deer. Oh, no shit. I did not know this. Which I, Wendy said she'd go to that, so.
• 16:52
Shit yeah. That's rad as hell. Yeah. Then The Growlers at Local Live. Also very good. I did black and- They sounded good... I did black and white for The Growlers for the most part, I think.
• 17:02
That, and that band and that stage lend itself to black and white photography because it's- Yeah... kind of like an old- Oh, I could see that. Yeah... it's almost like an old gas station or something with all the- Yeah.
• 17:12
Mm-hmm... with all the stuff on the back wall and- Yeah. Yeah, that was, it was- First time I ever saw Doobie... another time you missed something good, Tony. And Dolly Parton passed. Tim Curry passed. All right. Yeah.
• 17:24
Two days in a row. Donald Trump didn't pass. And I, yeah. [laughs] Where is it? Donald Trump didn't pass, so w- Then you pass this over. We have yet. Oh, and you pass that back. We'll put that in the thing.
• 17:35
I will go like this. Oh, well, we might as well- And then we do that. [bell ringing] Oh, look. Here we are. Everything comes together. Look at that. It was, that was not, that really was not orchestrated ahead of time.
• 17:46
Huh? It just takes on a life of its own. So on your way back from, uh, Vilas County there- On the way up actually... well, on the way you got the, we got the beer on the way up. And I hid it.
• 17:56
And you managed to keep it- Yes, I tried to keep it-... without drinking it... exactly. There were times. There were times. [laughs] Fascist tears. Oh, they taste like fascist tears.
• 18:05
Yeah, it's, um, it's actually pretty tasty. It's India Pa- it's berry delicious actually. Let's see. Ses- summer session IPA- Their frustration brewed-...
• 18:12
fermented For your- Lament some of your truly frustrated fascists. [laughs] Eagle-eyed Kash Patel, the director of FBI- [laughs]...
• 18:21
gets so drunk that his staff needs to request, quote, "breaching equipment" to rescue him from behind clo- locked doors.
• 18:29
[laughs] I like the, uh- Oh, this goes on for- Their frustration- This is, this is like the opening crawl of Star Wars... brewed for. Oh, yeah. So I'm not gonna go all the way through it, but it's fun.
• 18:37
It'll be on the website. Their frustration brewed- For your link... for your inebriation. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Now, there's Pete Hegseth, there's, uh, Caroline Levitt, there's, um, there's all sorts of stuff on here.
• 18:47
The cross around her neck grows larger every time she lies to reporters. [laughs] Pinocchio cross. 6.8. No Natalie Harp, though. No mention of- Not yet. I don't know. Not yet.
• 18:58
No, no, they, they, they're, they're- They'll probably add it... they seem to be very fluid in terms of their- But it seems like Natalie Harp should be an- And, and-... like an Irish, um- No, they have a-... ale...
• 19:06
uh, uh, what is it? In case any of you listeners don't realize- Oli- got-... we're big Trump supporters... Ol- [laughs] Oligarchy Sucks, I think, is one of the new lagers they have.
• 19:15
[laughs] Which is essentially just a rebranding of a different pilsner or- Sure... lager that they have. It's all about making the art in a can. And- Yeah. Yeah... exactly. And, and- And it was... You know. Yeah.
• 19:24
It's great. I, I just overheard some conversations there, and it was fun. I mean, there's a lot of merch there. Good on them. You know, it's- That is Minocqua Brewing. Yes. Up there. Up in Minocqua.
• 19:31
I'm- Minocqua, the least popular place in town. So- Which mostly ha- it's just overrun with fibs up there. Fib. Yeah. So- I'm not gonna talk about my Minocqua story- Thank you... on air.
• 19:44
[laughs] 'Cause it's s- it's long, but I do know someone that owns a lot of Minocqua. Yeah. Did. So JK's, uh, it w- So I'm back. Let's mention your DJ set again. Oh.
• 19:55
You did, you did a DJ set on, uh- I did, I did a DJ set. So now that you have all the new vinyl and all the new stuff, now you get more stuff for more, more DJing. No shit.
• 20:02
Uh, it is on Cream City DJs on the YouTube, and I would say it's worth checking out 'cause it's clever. Clever. One tries. And then I came back with a, [laughs] a small little sampler box of vinyl from up there in Vilas.
• 20:19
Oh, nice. Well, the cousin moving into the house next door to the cousin, th- th- they're developing this cool compound- Oh, okay... area, which is fun. I was like, "Oh."
• 20:31
I mean, not by plan, just by circumstance, it's working out nicely. Okay. So the people that had the house, or cabin, whatever you wanna call it, um, left,
• 20:42
you know, died and left things, and it was like, okay, well, they, you know, turnkey. What, what's in there is yours, you know? And it was a handful of vinyl, a good...
• 20:53
About, you know, five-foot stack if you put it all together. But it was like all waltzes and, [coughs] you know, some old-timey box sets of weirdness and whatever. Oh, cool. But I w- I- Cool...
• 21:06
she was asking me to curate a collection, and I was like, "I, hmm... W- what do you think I'd like?" And I was like, "I don't"- Is there Duke Ellington in there? None that I know of. "I don't know." Right.
• 21:16
I mean, I don't know you that w- you know? I'm like, okay, and she, you know, Johnny Cash and, you know. I'm like, okay, yeah. I, I didn't follow this. This is worth it. This is worth it.
• 21:28
And, you know, a handful of film scores. Eh. You like film scores. If you want 'em, I want 'em. I always want 'em. Did you take 'em with you? Yeah. Oh, nice. Nice. So 2001: A Space Odyssey. Come on, now. Oh, come on.
• 21:39
You gotta have that. So I- And Music Man. You got trouble right here in River City. You- You know. [laughs] Uh, I didn't know. You guys- That's T with a capital T.
• 21:48
Apparently you guys both knew about this, but somehow I'd missed this internet archive thing. Oh, yeah. 'Cause I use it all the time for the Wayback Machine part for finding old website stuff- Yeah...
• 21:58
from back in the olden days. That, though, is incredible. This is the music part. Yeah. And this one part of this music part where they have, like- WMC, baby... 32 million freaking things or something.
• 22:09
This Adam Jacobs collection at the live music archive is him having recorded shows from probably the m- mid to late '80s all the way up until now pretty much at just local clubs and just old school stuff, and- Oh, nice...
• 22:24
um- Like the, like a bootleg tape- Well, well see-... haven. Yeah, yeah. So, so, I mean, just at the top of the list- Like-... because they're famous are, are the Nirvana at- The Nirvana? The Nirvana. The- The Nirvanas.
• 22:36
The Depeche Mode at Aragon Ballroom. Depeche Mode. A. There's, there's lots of R.E.M., The Smiths, all that stuff. But- Rapid eye movement for the Hoos at home. [laughs] Yeah, Fugazi, tons of Fugazi.
• 22:47
But there's also a lot of stuff- Ah, 39 years ago they played their first show. That was one of my posts in this... Well, well, well. There's a lot of stuff that was kind of Mil- I don't know... Milwaukee-oriented too.
• 22:56
Right. Pix- well, Pixies, not that they are, but- But they did play a lot in Milwaukee when they were- Ween replacements, but just all that stuff, and these are all recorded- It's all really-...
• 23:05
like, basically- Some of the recordings is, are bad, but- Yeah... they're still- Because he, because he, like, hid the recorder under the sound board- Right... or something like that. It's still nostalgic. Yeah.
• 23:12
It's great. And there's- Fugazi shows because they were, they were... I'm sure they were, most of them are all the $5 shows. Yeah, I'm sure. 'Cause that was- These weren't ex- these were not expensive things.
• 23:20
No, that was, that was their dance. Even they- Always, yep. Five bucks. Yep, $5. Sonic Youth, Midnight Oil. You know, there's just tons of stuff that if you were at those shows, the Mecon... Back in the day- Yep...
• 23:31
you're like, "I was at that show" and you can kinda listen to it again, and it's like- It's like flashback. Yeah, super fun. It, and it's... I had no idea. So there's 3,344 just from this guy, and they go from,
• 23:46
uh- Like- 1988- Let me see... through 2023, and the, the, the fat stacks... Well, there're, there's a bunch- Huh... from '16, '15. I'll have to take a damn look at that. Oh, it's, it's good.
• 23:57
And then a bunch from '06, '5, '4, '3. There's like 160, 179 from those years. I don't know how this guy could afford to go to all those shows- Right... and spend all that time. It's great.
• 24:07
Oh, probably just curating friends. He might've been a sound guy or something, got in for free. Well, I would think he'd... Yeah. I don't know. Well, I mean, well- There's, I mean, there is a backstory to it.
• 24:13
You can read it. Well, yeah. There was the entire, well, uh, thing at, uh, Atomic. At Tom and- Atomic Records.
• 24:19
You just go past the counter, around the thing, there is the bin of all the bootleg or soundboard recordings, bootlegs Yeah. A guy I know had, like, every single Zappa bootleg ever- Ah...
• 24:31
and there was many hundreds and maybe a couple, two, 300 of them I had the soundboard of Depeche Mode at, at, uh, Marcus Amphitheater I bet that was awesome. And it was, like, good.
• 24:40
I mean, it was, like, it's on the board- Soundboards usually pretty decent... yeah. I mean, sometimes shit, but rarely. [laughs] So anyway, that link is in there. You should check that out.
• 24:51
Here's ano- I don't, I don't have a link for this yet. I will. But, um- If nothing else, I will... this is, I don't even know if you guys know about this yet, I kinda changed the identity, uh, the i- [gibberish]
• 25:01
Like that? I, the identity- Identity... of, of Everyday Cycles. You still have that bag? I, we're not really doing repairs anymore.
• 25:10
We're not able to be a retail place on the ground floor where people can park, so we're still doing some custom stuff, but the, the webs- I kept getting calls from people wanting their electric bike 20, you know, inch- Oh...
• 25:25
wheels, you know, flats fixed and stuff, and I'm like, "Yeah, we don't do that." Uh, we, our- Easy money... insurance doesn't even let us do that probably. Dude, those things take, like, hours to do.
• 25:37
Well, the rear wheel- And nobody's gonna spend 100 bucks to fix a flat, so they need to figure out [laughs] how to work on their own machines.
• 25:42
I'll bet you if they're dumb enough to spend $1,500 on a Chinese bike- These are mo-... they'll pay $100 for a flat... these are mostly kids that- Okay. Yeah... yeah... no, yeah. Figure it out yourself. Yeah.
• 25:51
Spea- speaking of which, how much would it cost for you to put these onto Bob, my, my, my, my, my Steed? Four dollars. Well, I'll... See, here's the deal. Ha ha ha ha.
• 25:59
Uh, Everyday Cycles, I think, should or will or may have some sort of educational aspect where we'll be doing things about how to replace your own fucking pedals- I think I was, I think I was slightly-...
• 26:08
so you don't have to go to the bike shop and spend $25 getting your pedals- I don't have a bike tool. I don't have a pedal thingy. I do, but- I don't have a, I don't have a pedal wrench at home.
• 26:15
Well, I do that, but that- Well, that's why you come to us... yeah. Ta-da. Yeah. Bye. And I bought it from you. We teach you- You didn't buy those from me... s- I bought the bu- Uh... the Steed from you. Oh, yes.
• 26:24
Well, we'll take care of that. [laughs] Not a big deal. What's with those lawn drags? There's a, there's a... What? What's with those lawn drags? What are they doing there? One looks- I don't know... kinda creepy.
• 26:32
[laughs] The other one- Here, crack off- Um-... crack off part of the- So, uh, so here's the idea long-term, if we can ever raise a few bucks again, is to... Does it- Oh my God, that's good... does it snap? Yeah.
• 26:44
Oh, it will snap. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, it did. [laughs] Um, is to, instead of just having a retail shop, I really envision something more like a clubhouse, where you go there and hang out and have a beer.
• 26:54
Maybe somebody's working on your bike, maybe you're working on your bike.
• 26:58
But more of a, a cycling meetup place versus a full-on retail joint, which I don't know anybody, any of you listeners are in the cycling industry, you know how tough it is right these days, uh, to do anything to make any real money.
• 27:11
So, I think it would have to be I won the lottery and it was just sort of a passion project, but- Yeah... I'm keeping the, the, the flame alive somehow. Uh, or a few is [laughs] yeah.
• 27:23
Eh, that's generally the idea of that. Uh- I brought, I brought my knife- I don't, I don't even know what that means... to actually cut that, but I don't think it needs it. It just needs to be snapped.
• 27:34
No, it snapped like a mofo, bro. But it's a fun knife to show. It's so good. I'm gonna, I'm gonna have one- It's so good... I don't know if I can mi- munch on it. It's so freaking good.
• 27:41
Remember when we had the one hanging in the old shop and it dripped on the floor and- Yes. Yeah. This is even better. Oh, I think I might break a tooth on that side. You'll be okay. [laughs] And there we go. Mm. Mm.
• 27:53
Ah, mm. Oh, yeah. Mm. So, we did talk about this last week. So- See, neglecting, neglecting cured meats for a, a, an amount of time- Oh my God, so good... pays off. It's quite- It's so good... it's quite crunchy. Mm-hmm.
• 28:06
Uh, we did talk about being, going bi. It's tough. And we talked about going bi last time, right? Bi-monthly. Yeah. Bi. Yep. So, I think we're gonna do this again, you know- A couple of weeks...
• 28:17
like in a couple of weeks. Generally s- Ooh, I might not be able to make that. I have obligations. We'll see. Generally speaking, it will be the second Tuesday and the fourth Tuesday would be what I would say- Yeah...
• 28:29
because first Tuesday, uh, Local Live has started again at Anodyne. Okay. And The Growlers were a great opening- Yeah... of salvo for this season.
• 28:42
Uh, I don't even know who's next, but there's a couple good shows coming up at Anodyne too that we should keep our eye on. Yeah. Exactly. Oh, that's the other side of my piece of piper. Stuff coming up? Yeah.
• 28:53
Upcoming stuff? Yeah. What's coming up? Do tell. You prepared for this better than I did. Me too.
• 28:58
Well, I mean, I don't know when this goes up, but Thursday night, maybe in the past, I don't know, Goth Barge is at Cathedral Square. [laughs] So goth DJ is playing jazz in the park- So-... being the headliner.
• 29:11
That's something interesting... I just wanna kinda, I just wanna see what that dynamic- Yeah, so-... how it lands... yeah... how it lands. I just found out, I just found a DJ Paul. Paul H?
• 29:20
Paul H is- With his jaunty mustache? Yeah. He's the first Friday of the month DJ at Mad Plant. Mm-hmm. I'm like- Oh, yeah. I-... "I, I gotta go see that." Brian, Brian was mentioning him. Yeah.
• 29:32
I'm like, I, I will definitely, I mean- Yeah... obviously it's three doors down, but- Don't call you Superman. Sorry. I'm, I'm sorry. [laughs] Here, I- Ah... asshole. Well, you started it. I know.
• 29:45
I, I did go down a rabbit hole after our David Byrne thing last week at, or last whatever, last time we did this, that he cycles when he gets to towns, and there was a playlist that he curated or whatever. Yeah.
• 29:57
Um, but it led me to go ask Mr. GPT how many other people in bands are known cyclists. And even roadies and other people, but the first one that I came across was Ralf Hütter from Kraftwerk.
• 30:16
Um, and he, he became really- That's awesome... he became very obsessed with road cycling, and he used to have the bus drop him off, like, 100 miles from the town they were playing in. Wow, he's such a roadie. Yeah.
• 30:26
Yeah, that is totally a roadie. You're a roadie, eh? But it, then it led me to believe- Or Bob Roberts... we got one guy we talk about who's a cyclist- Yep...
• 30:33
and if they come through town, I'd be like- Tour manager, can we talk to this person or go for a ride with them even? Yeah. Because it's sort of like the old Lynyrd Skynyrd song. I'll do that.
• 30:42
"I don't really wanna talk about what I do, but we'll, we can talk about fishing." Right? I don't, mm- I, I would ride bikes and not talk about fishing. All right, Nusky. [laughs] You're, you're our first victim.
• 30:52
Come on now. [laughs] Come on, Brett. Um, but- But, um, it led me to this with Mr. Music Man over here. Do a Kraftwerk playlist from the show. Oh, oh. Would it, ought to be... Yeah.
• 31:05
Maybe you'll do a, maybe you do a playlist of whomever we talk about. I would listen to that- Oh... and lots, and lots of many times. I'm the operator- Ja, vielen Danken. I would be the operator of my pocket calculator.
• 31:17
[laughs] Boop boop. Beep boop. Boop. Beep boop. See, that's me doing the, uh- I think they actually have a song called Tour de France. Yes, they do. Really? There you go. Are you sure? Yes, uh, they do. Really? Yeah.
• 31:29
Well, he says so, so it must be true. All right, everybody. I dunno. What, what, you got anything else on there that we should know about? Um- Strummer Fest this weekend. Oh, shit. Ja. Oh, shit, it's this weekend.
• 31:40
It's Saturday, bro. Or is it- I think it is... is it Friday or Saturday? [laughs] It's, uh- Pretty sure... it is this weekend. Garibaldi. Yep. Yep, yep. Yep. Yep. Wendy is, uh, going to be a participant again.
• 31:52
20- She had a lot of fun last year. I believe it's 20 bucks to get in. I gotta try these on. I went in early and got the $30- I better look at that again, because-... T-shirt,
• 32:01
and I didn't- Can you post that in the, in the notes? What? The T-shirt link. I'd, yeah, I'll look for them. Well, no, you can just get... It'll end up being 20, 20 then. Oh, it'll be a... Okay. Yeah.
• 32:10
Well, but $30 with a shirt, it's like a $10 shirt. Yeah, I want the shirt. I like that idea. I, I don't mind giving them $10 to help MPS. Exactly. Yeah. It's a fundraiser for the Milwaukee- Yeah...
• 32:20
Public School Musics- Yeah... System. It's not like they sell out of the shirts. Oh, okay. It's, it's not an exclusive. But you, but you pay another 20. Ah. You pay 20 bucks for them at the thing. Yeah.
• 32:28
That's item- This way I throw more money at different things then. Yeah. More vinyl, you see. Yeah. [laughs] It's... [laughs] Copy that. Yeah, you see now. All right. It all makes sense.
• 32:37
This is the Sum- yes, the September of Michael. Whoa. Hello. Oh. All right. Well, that's good. The September of Michael will be festooned. Oh, pink. Thank you again- Thank pink... for listening and/or- Thank you.
• 32:48
Come again... if you watch, I, I'm sorry. [laughs] Uh, but, uh, we'll keep doing it. Why, good looking. [laughs] With the Von Munns fan club on, too. All right, everybody. Come again. [upbeat music] Oh, yeah.
• 33:04
I'm gonna replace this by next show. Okay. Maybe. [upbeat music] I've replaced it in my computer.
