- 0:41Speaker 3: Thanks for tuning in to another episode of Mental Health Matters,
- 0:49Speaker 3: because it does. Right, Cody?
- 0:51Speaker 4: Right, Rick?
- 0:55Speaker 3: It does. A lot of things matter, but the way
- 0:58Speaker 3: you're thinking, stinking thinking is not good. So we're going
- 1:01Speaker 3: to do a checkup from the neck up again today,
- 1:04Speaker 3: episode 21. And we're going to be talking a little
- 1:07Speaker 3: bit about that word happy, you know, and yeah. So
- 1:14Speaker 3: Cody and also Rick, we talked a little bit before
- 1:18Speaker 3: going online, Jeremiah 17, seven says happy as a man.
- 1:22Speaker 3: that trusts in the Lord. Rick, you want to set
- 1:25Speaker 3: up this topic for us?
- 1:27Speaker 5: Amen.
- 1:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 5: So, you know, I think true happiness and clear direction
- 1:31Speaker 5: obviously comes from seeking God first. But often the heavy
- 1:36Speaker 5: weight of life and the different things that come our way,
- 1:39Speaker 5: we rely on other people. We rely on our own
- 1:43Speaker 5: limited plans instead of really trusting in the Lord what
- 1:46Speaker 5: He has next for us. And we know that people
- 1:49Speaker 5: fail us and we know that God won't fail us.
- 1:52Speaker 5: And so that's what we're going to be talking about today.
- 1:58Speaker 6: Can I.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Add to that? I think you're muted. Are you muted?
- 2:10Speaker 6: Yeah, sorry, I'm muted.
- 2:11Speaker 7: Full transparency, my computer sounds like it's about to blast
- 2:16Speaker 7: off like a rocket ship, so I'm having kind of
- 2:17Speaker 7: a hard time hearing. But, you know, I think this
- 2:25Speaker 7: idea of happiness... You know, really, to me, the first
- 2:29Speaker 7: thing that comes to mind is just the fruit of
- 2:30Speaker 7: the spirit, you know, love, joy.
- 2:32Speaker 6: And I think that even.
- 2:36Speaker 7: Joy on a deeper sense is a more profound sense
- 2:40Speaker 7: of happiness that we can find. And ultimately, we find
- 2:43Speaker 7: that true sense of joy being connected to our creator,
- 2:48Speaker 7: our source of life. So that's the first thing that
- 2:53Speaker 7: comes to mind for me.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Good.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And here's that verse. I'm going to get and share
- 3:00Speaker 3: a screen here real quick with Bible Gateway. We use
- 3:03Speaker 3: Bible Gateway on our show, Jeremiah 17, 7. There it is.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Make a big screen there like that. Boom. Blessed is
- 3:14Speaker 3: the man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is
- 3:16Speaker 3: in the Lord. And I always recommend reading verses before
- 3:20Speaker 3: and after. You know, just to kind of keep things
- 3:25Speaker 3: in the context. But even verse 9 is one of
- 3:29Speaker 3: my go-to verses when we talk about the heart and feelings. Because, again,
- 3:34Speaker 3: happiness is a feeling attached to emotions. But even 9
- 3:40Speaker 3: and 10 says the heart is deceitful above all things
- 3:44Speaker 3: and desperately wicked. Who can know it? Verse 10, I,
- 3:49Speaker 3: the Lord, search the heart. I test the mind. Even
- 3:54Speaker 3: to give every man according to his ways, according to
- 3:57Speaker 3: the fruit of his doings. So we don't have this
- 4:00Speaker 3: pie in the sky God who says, hey, do what
- 4:03Speaker 3: you want. You know, and you guys probably hear it
- 4:09Speaker 3: a lot in counseling. Doesn't God want me to be happy?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Follow your heart, which is like the worst advice based
- 4:16Speaker 3: on that verse to ever tell anybody. Don't follow your heart.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Because it's wicked and deceitful above all things. So make
- 4:22Speaker 3: a list of everything on the planet. Put your heart
- 4:25Speaker 3: on top. Above all things, your heart's right at the top.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Wicked and deceitful. And then everything else on the planet
- 4:31Speaker 3: follows that. Back to you, Rick.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Yeah, sometimes we want the easy way to be happy.
- 4:38Speaker 5: And again, a lot of times, as I mentioned, we
- 4:41Speaker 5: count on people who are perfect. Our friends, our family,
- 4:44Speaker 5: our partners. to fill that void and it's just not
- 4:48Speaker 5: going to happen. You know, for starters, having this kind
- 4:51Speaker 5: of expectations in another relationship can move away on another
- 4:55Speaker 5: person that they're trying to carry your happiness and, you know,
- 4:59Speaker 5: help you. You know, a lot of times people don't
- 5:01Speaker 5: even compliment themselves. How are they going to compliment someone
- 5:04Speaker 5: else if they've got their own stuff going on? And
- 5:08Speaker 5: I think we know that facing human validation is just temporary.
- 5:12Speaker 5: Nothing like, you know, sticking to our trusted God. And
- 5:17Speaker 5: so just by acknowledging God as our source alone brings
- 5:21Speaker 5: us peace and joy and all the things that we
- 5:24Speaker 5: can have in our daily relationship. And it's so hard
- 5:28Speaker 5: as he is. humans to surrender to His timeline because
- 5:31Speaker 5: we want happiness now. We want whatever we have going
- 5:34Speaker 5: on right now. That's why it's so important to stay
- 5:38Speaker 5: focused in the present and just to trust God.
- 5:47Speaker 7: You know, as you were talking, Pastor Chuck, I think
- 5:51Speaker 7: that's something that we often hear in culture.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Is just follow your heart.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Again, I think Just to double down on what you
- 5:58Speaker 7: were saying from a Christian perspective, I think that's a very,
- 6:01Speaker 7: very dangerous territory to be in.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Because oftentimes when we say.
- 6:07Speaker 7: That, we're following emotions. We're following things that are fleeting.
- 6:12Speaker 7: And the reality is that our emotions lie to us.
- 6:17Speaker 7: Our emotions don't always convey the whole truth. And when
- 6:20Speaker 7: we act based on our emotions, it's very easy to
- 6:24Speaker 7: set aside the truth. The Bible tells us to forgive,
- 6:29Speaker 7: but if we're holding on to bitterness, resentment, and we're
- 6:33Speaker 7: not forgiving, and we're following our heart, then our heart
- 6:37Speaker 7: is not in alignment with the truth of God's word.
- 6:41Speaker 7: So I think that there's a, from a Christian perspective,
- 6:45Speaker 7: there's a very dangerous territory that you can walk in.
- 6:50Speaker 6: And same thing with happiness.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Kind of like both of you were talking about is
- 6:53Speaker 7: happiness is such a fleeting emotion. You can wake up,
- 6:57Speaker 7: happy and not really know why, but then somebody cuts
- 7:00Speaker 7: you off in traffic and now you're in a bad mood.
- 7:02Speaker 6: So that happiness is just, it's gone.
- 7:05Speaker 7: So I think that's where we have to be completely
- 7:07Speaker 7: rooted in our faith. We have to truly be connected
- 7:11Speaker 7: to the source of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self,
- 7:15Speaker 7: you know, faithfulness.
- 7:16Speaker 6: Self-control, fruits of the spirit, which.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Ultimately come from having that relationship with the Lord. Um,
- 7:25Speaker 7: And then again, just having those people in our lives,
- 7:27Speaker 7: whether that's a therapist, counselor, whether that's a friend, whether
- 7:32Speaker 7: that's people within Bible studies, small groups, whatever it may be,
- 7:36Speaker 7: that when we're not able to regulate our emotions, they
- 7:41Speaker 7: can walk with us through that and.
- 7:43Speaker 6: Remind us of truth and help us move through that
- 7:46Speaker 6: because we're human.
- 7:47Speaker 7: There's times where things are going to happen and we
- 7:50Speaker 7: need those people around us who can help walk us
- 7:54Speaker 7: through that.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yeah. And I'm just going to again, drop the bombshell
- 7:58Speaker 3: because it's adultery. And I don't know how many relationships
- 8:03Speaker 3: have ended with, he makes me happy. You're not making
- 8:05Speaker 3: me happy anymore. Back to, you know, Rick's point, our
- 8:08Speaker 3: family relationships, God is not asking you to be happy.
- 8:11Speaker 3: He's asking you to be faithful. God is faithful. And
- 8:16Speaker 3: that's a quality he wants us to have faithfulness. So
- 8:18Speaker 3: whether you're happy or not, it's actually irrelevant. Now listen,
- 8:21Speaker 3: if you're in domestic violence and you're being abused and
- 8:24Speaker 3: There's a line that's crossed where you got to nip
- 8:26Speaker 3: that in the bud and separate and be safe. We're
- 8:30Speaker 3: talking about mental health matters because fantasizing, daydreaming about somebody
- 8:35Speaker 3: else who may be prettier or more handsome or gives
- 8:38Speaker 3: me more attention and he looks like he'd be a
- 8:40Speaker 3: better husband. Like, let me upgrade. This isn't a car
- 8:43Speaker 3: deal where you trade in your car and get a
- 8:45Speaker 3: newer model, right? So again, the whole happy concept and
- 8:50Speaker 3: the heart is deceitful, wicked above all things. Adultery, we
- 8:54Speaker 3: call it Oh, it's an affair. No, it is adultery.
- 8:57Speaker 3: It's in the top 10 commandments. You're going to be
- 8:58Speaker 3: judged for it. I'm just a messenger, you know, and
- 9:02Speaker 3: I'm probably on my preacher's soapbox here at this point.
- 9:05Speaker 3: But let's just, again, we talk about the Bible. I'm
- 9:08Speaker 3: going to go to Matthew chapter 13. I'm sorry, Hebrews 13. Hebrews,
- 9:14Speaker 3: it's also proof that man needs to make the coffee
- 9:16Speaker 3: in the morning, not the women. It's Hebrews, not Shebrews.
- 9:19Speaker 3: So men, get up early, make the coffee for your woman.
- 9:22Speaker 3: All right. All right, so this starts off with 13.1.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Let's make a big screen. He says, Let brotherly love continue.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so,
- 9:35Speaker 3: some have unwittingly entertained angels. That was Lot right before
- 9:38Speaker 3: Sodom and Gomorrah. He entertained the angels, had them spend
- 9:41Speaker 3: the night. Verse 3, Remember the prisoners as if you're
- 9:44Speaker 3: trained with them, those who are mistreated, since you yourselves
- 9:47Speaker 3: are in the body also. And verse 4, ready? Drum roll, please.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Marriage is honorable, and that's between a man and a
- 9:56Speaker 3: woman only. Among all, the bed is undefiled. But fornicators,
- 10:01Speaker 3: that's sex outside of marriage, and adulterers, God will judge.
- 10:05Speaker 3: So call it what you want, feelings, emotions, happiness. This
- 10:10Speaker 3: is for somebody somewhere, but this would solve a lot
- 10:15Speaker 3: of train wrecks. 50% divorce rate, first-time marriages, in the
- 10:18Speaker 3: church and out of the church. 80% second marriages. Third marriages,
- 10:23Speaker 3: even higher than that. So God is calling you to
- 10:26Speaker 3: be faithful to your spouse. And man, if we follow
- 10:28Speaker 3: our heart, it'll lead you into adultery. I'm done.
- 10:31Speaker 8: Next.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Take over, Rick.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 8: We're all going through so many different things and I
- 10:46Speaker 8: think with the society and our friends and community and
- 10:50Speaker 8: all of that, I think a lot of times people
- 10:52Speaker 8: are like, of course, they've seen us, but not really.
- 10:54Speaker 8: And I think that's really not, you know, it's not
- 10:56Speaker 8: nothing that's going to help them. And it's easy to,
- 11:00Speaker 8: the things that we're able to do, like we have
- 11:02Speaker 8: to buy our things, we can build, but, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 8: it's another space that they can think of that, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 8: and so not just to, just to lay it off
- 11:12Speaker 8: and do God, but like to build I don't know
- 11:15Speaker 8: if it's true for both cases, though. You can go
- 11:17Speaker 8: back to your work as your friend, for example, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 8: just to, you know, get off the college and then
- 11:22Speaker 8: coming off at the very time, you're speaking up to women.
- 11:25Speaker 8: All those different things, very different things that you're living,
- 11:28Speaker 8: that I'm dying to let go of. And you're a person.
- 11:32Speaker 5: That you can trust, you can trust.
- 11:35Speaker 8: And so, again, it's just that actualization of, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 8: a person that you trust with.
- 11:51Speaker 7: Again, full transparency, I'm having a really hard time hearing
- 11:54Speaker 7: you for some reason. So I missed some of that.
- 11:58Speaker 7: But just to kind of go off of the, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 7: even the happiness concept, I'm listening to a book that
- 12:03Speaker 7: I would recommend to any man, whether you're married, not married,
- 12:07Speaker 7: whatever it may be.
- 12:08Speaker 6: But it's by Pastor Joby Martin. called Stand Firm and
- 12:11Speaker 6: Act Like Men.
- 12:13Speaker 7: And he really speaks to this concept of what it
- 12:17Speaker 7: means to truly be a man of God and to
- 12:20Speaker 7: be a husband or a potential husband.
- 12:23Speaker 6: Or, you know, he talks about even some people have
- 12:26Speaker 6: the gift of singleness and what that looks like.
- 12:29Speaker 7: But one of the things that he talks about in
- 12:32Speaker 7: chapter two is this, even this idea of comfort, right?
- 12:35Speaker 7: He says that comfort is not a biblical principle. God
- 12:39Speaker 7: does not call us to be comfortable with That's a
- 12:41Speaker 7: cultural thing, right? And oftentimes we seek comfort over everything
- 12:49Speaker 7: else because we believe comfort and happiness are intertwined. You know,
- 12:56Speaker 7: that can show itself in a lot of different ways.
- 12:59Speaker 7: But again, you know, if I'm in an uncomfortable situation
- 13:03Speaker 7: or uncomfortable with circumstance my heart may say like oh
- 13:08Speaker 7: you just need to be comfortable you just need to
- 13:09Speaker 7: be happy you know you just need to be.
- 13:11Speaker 6: This almost like an inadvertently self.
- 13:18Speaker 7: Self-driven motive that again doesn't necessarily line up with the
- 13:22Speaker 7: truth of God's word so I think that there's a
- 13:26Speaker 7: fine line between what true joy looks like.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And happiness yeah that's good So there's the verse 7,
- 13:36Speaker 3: and again, I jumped to 9 and 10 because that's,
- 13:38Speaker 3: to me, you talk about mental health and the heart.
- 13:42Speaker 3: You know, they say the longest 18 inches in the universe,
- 13:50Speaker 3: 18 inches is 18 inches wherever you are in the universe,
- 13:52Speaker 3: but the longest 18 inches is from your head to
- 13:55Speaker 3: your heart, right? And they kind of... They work together,
- 14:00Speaker 3: if you ask me. What you're thinking about affects your
- 14:03Speaker 3: feelings and your heart and your core convictions. Core convictions
- 14:08Speaker 3: can help you start thinking straight, too, when you start
- 14:10Speaker 3: thinking off. I don't know exactly how it works, but
- 14:15Speaker 3: I know they're very well connected. Body, soul, and spirit.
- 14:19Speaker 3: That soul and spirit thing, it's a thing. It's a
- 14:22Speaker 3: real thing. But looking at this verse, blessed is the
- 14:26Speaker 3: man who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is in
- 14:30Speaker 3: the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted
- 14:33Speaker 3: by waters, which spreads out its roots by the river
- 14:36Speaker 3: and will not fear when he comes, but its leaves
- 14:39Speaker 3: will be green and will not be anxious in the
- 14:42Speaker 3: year of drought. Because he's trusting in the Lord, that
- 14:45Speaker 3: spells out obedience. Back to the whole adult thing. You
- 14:49Speaker 3: start compromising in areas of your life, it's going to
- 14:53Speaker 3: cause problems. And half the counseling, by the time they
- 14:57Speaker 3: come to you, it's a train wreck. It's like they're
- 15:00Speaker 3: at their wits end. And, you know, it's hard to
- 15:02Speaker 3: clean up, backtrack, undo things that are done and things
- 15:07Speaker 3: that are said. So this is why we do the show.
- 15:09Speaker 3: We want to talk about it. Stay focused. Stay obedient.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And not to say life's going to be perfect, but
- 15:16Speaker 3: you're going to avoid some train wrecks. Back to you, Rick.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Give me a favor.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Hold on. Pause for a minute. If you can come
- 15:32Speaker 3: out and come back in. Somehow your audio has been garbled.
- 15:35Speaker 3: And I know everything you're saying is gold. It's pure gold.
- 15:39Speaker 3: But maybe there could be an internet garbling connection. So
- 15:42Speaker 3: maybe I'm going to remove you, have you come back in.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And then Cody will go this time and then we'll
- 15:48Speaker 3: have you come back in with your comment. What were
- 15:55Speaker 3: you thinking, Cody? You want to piggyback on the last
- 15:57Speaker 3: thing I said?
- 15:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:58Speaker 7: You know, I've kind of done like a little deep
- 16:04Speaker 7: dive into like the mind, the heart, the soul, spirit,
- 16:07Speaker 7: you know, these different things, these complexities of what makes
- 16:12Speaker 7: us us. And really when we look at it from
- 16:15Speaker 7: whether it's a Hebrew perspective or a Greek perspective, this
- 16:18Speaker 7: idea of the heart is really the centrality of a person,
- 16:21Speaker 7: like what makes somebody.
- 16:23Speaker 6: Who they are, right? The mind, the will, the emotions,
- 16:26Speaker 6: everything is wrapped up in the heart.
- 16:29Speaker 7: So even when we think about, you know, the hardest
- 16:32Speaker 7: deceitfully wicked of all, like who can trust it, that
- 16:34Speaker 7: really just speaks to kind of the, not just the
- 16:39Speaker 7: physical organ or not just the emotions, but sometimes that.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Our mind can get in the way of that.
- 16:44Speaker 7: And one of the things that I often teach and
- 16:46Speaker 7: preach on is that the mind is really the.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Seat of spiritual warfare.
- 16:52Speaker 7: And something I always tell people is that what you
- 16:55Speaker 7: lend your mind to, you'll eventually give your time to.
- 16:59Speaker 7: Whatever is constantly ruminating in your mind, if we don't
- 17:04Speaker 7: grab those thoughts, if we don't deal with them, if
- 17:06Speaker 7: we don't confess them, if we don't cast them down,
- 17:09Speaker 7: eventually it's going to show up some way in our lives, right?
- 17:12Speaker 7: And you gave a perfect example. If you're constantly telling yourself, hey.
- 17:16Speaker 6: I'm not happy in my marriage.
- 17:18Speaker 7: I don't even know if this is going to work out.
- 17:20Speaker 7: She doesn't appreciate me. He doesn't appreciate me, whatever it is.
- 17:24Speaker 7: Whether you realize it or not, you're subconsciously, for lack
- 17:28Speaker 7: of a better term, programming yourself. And you're going to
- 17:30Speaker 7: start doing things that you probably wouldn't do if you
- 17:33Speaker 7: were looking at your marriage from a different perspective.
- 17:36Speaker 6: When we're constantly focused.
- 17:37Speaker 7: On the negative of like, I've been wronged, I've been this,
- 17:40Speaker 7: you're going to do things subconsciously that are going to
- 17:43Speaker 7: lead to an affair, going to lead to adultery, going
- 17:47Speaker 7: to lead to these things that are outside of the
- 17:49Speaker 7: will of God. And it's a very slippery slope. And
- 17:52Speaker 7: I believe that's why the Bible.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Tells us to be transformed by the renewing of the mind.
- 17:57Speaker 7: Repentance literally means, in the Greek, to change your mind afterwards.
- 18:02Speaker 6: And, you know, the Bible also tells us.
- 18:05Speaker 7: To grab every thought and to submit it to Christ,
- 18:08Speaker 7: submit it to the Lord. Because when we let those
- 18:13Speaker 7: things ruminate, right, when the mind becomes filled and the
- 18:18Speaker 7: seed is planted, then it grows to the heart. And
- 18:20Speaker 7: then it takes over not just our thoughts, but our emotions.
- 18:22Speaker 7: And then our emotions then become our will.
- 18:25Speaker 6: And we act on those things. So it's very, very,
- 18:30Speaker 6: they're all interconnected.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Rick, what are you thinking?
- 18:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know if this is any better, but
- 18:38Speaker 4: I was just going to say earlier that, you know,
- 18:44Speaker 4: that alone, you know, the happiness was there.
- 18:46Speaker 5: And, of course, as we've been talking about, man's pursuit
- 18:48Speaker 5: of happiness could be misdirected through adults and through substance abuse,
- 18:52Speaker 5: through all these different things that, again, trying to make
- 18:55Speaker 5: ourselves happy, that, of course, it's never going to make
- 18:58Speaker 5: them happy. And so, again, just being on that right
- 19:03Speaker 5: path um back to god or staying with god uh
- 19:07Speaker 5: we can keep that true happiness and uh and stay
- 19:11Speaker 5: in a righteous pursuit of god's promises and enjoy those
- 19:15Speaker 5: and trust those because we certainly can't trust our own
- 19:19Speaker 5: uh judgment sometimes much less somebody else's.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Amen that's a good point and you sound a lot
- 19:26Speaker 3: better now that you came out and came back in
- 19:28Speaker 3: so um if there was another point in that last
- 19:31Speaker 3: first word bite um Cody couldn't hear. You might want to,
- 19:35Speaker 3: for the record, for the podcasters, add that point again.
- 19:39Speaker 3: And next time you speak, because it's all gold, as
- 19:43Speaker 3: we were saying, you know, we were talking about this
- 19:45Speaker 3: stuff because what we're thinking about, it's going to manifest
- 19:49Speaker 3: in celebration. recovery, which we lead here in Farmington as well.
- 19:54Speaker 3: We talk about relapse, right? So whatever that instead of
- 19:57Speaker 3: drug of choice, maybe a sin of choice, it could
- 19:59Speaker 3: be pornography, it could be overeating. It'd be a lots
- 20:02Speaker 3: of things that we have strongholds. And they say the
- 20:05Speaker 3: relapse happens way before they picked up the drink or
- 20:08Speaker 3: the drug, right? So, because again, what they were thinking about,
- 20:11Speaker 3: what they were plotting and planning. And, you know, you
- 20:16Speaker 3: want about, you know, I'll just say this too. South Florida,
- 20:19Speaker 3: a lot of old people, we called them geezers back then,
- 20:22Speaker 3: and it probably wasn't nice, but they would drive and
- 20:24Speaker 3: all you would see is knuckles. And there'd be a
- 20:26Speaker 3: lot of people jogging or riding a bike on the
- 20:28Speaker 3: side of the road. And the old people would be
- 20:31Speaker 3: looking at them because they don't want to hit them.
- 20:34Speaker 3: And they would actually drive into them because you wind
- 20:36Speaker 3: up driving into what you're looking at instead of kind
- 20:39Speaker 3: of keeping it in your peripheral vision, but not focusing
- 20:42Speaker 3: it too much because you're going to drive right into
- 20:44Speaker 3: what you're looking at. So they would, a lot of
- 20:47Speaker 3: old people would hit joggers and bikers because they were
- 20:49Speaker 3: focusing on them too much not to hit them that
- 20:51Speaker 3: they wind up driving into them. So I think the
- 20:54Speaker 3: same mindset can be applied here.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Cody?
- 20:56Speaker 3: That's a good question.
- 21:00Speaker 7: Very good description of essentially like what I was saying
- 21:03Speaker 7: of what you lend.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Your mind to, you'll give your time to.
- 21:06Speaker 7: And, you know, even just going to throw this out there,
- 21:10Speaker 7: because this is even circulating within the church today, this
- 21:12Speaker 7: whole idea of manifestation.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Or, you know, name it and claim it, blab it
- 21:18Speaker 6: and grab it, whatever, you know, words you want to use.
- 21:21Speaker 7: But they've even proven psychologically that when you're constantly like,
- 21:28Speaker 7: if you're constantly speaking things, It's not just that the
- 21:32Speaker 7: universe or God always just drops it into your lap.
- 21:36Speaker 7: What you're doing is you're, again, kind of like subconsciously
- 21:40Speaker 7: programming yourself to take steps in that direction.
- 21:44Speaker 6: Like, oh, I'm going to do this, I'm going to
- 21:45Speaker 6: do this, or I'm just going to keep speaking this.
- 21:47Speaker 7: And I think that even that, and this could maybe
- 21:50Speaker 7: even be like a different conversation for later, but the
- 21:53Speaker 7: Lord tells us in Mark to believe what we ask
- 21:58Speaker 7: for and we will have it. Right. And I think
- 22:00Speaker 7: that that's a biblical principle that's been twisted in the
- 22:03Speaker 7: sense of like, oh, I just need this to be happy.
- 22:05Speaker 6: I need to do this to be happy. I need
- 22:06Speaker 6: to do this to be happy.
- 22:07Speaker 7: So we're constantly telling ourselves these things and we're looking
- 22:10Speaker 7: at those things. And as you said, Patrick, even though
- 22:13Speaker 7: we need to stay within the lanes of scripture because
- 22:16Speaker 7: we're constantly saying, I need this, I need this, I
- 22:18Speaker 7: need this.
- 22:19Speaker 6: We start to veer off the road. Right. And it's
- 22:22Speaker 6: a slippery slope.
- 22:23Speaker 7: I think about it like if you're walking, if you
- 22:24Speaker 7: ever walk on a ridgeline and you fall off the
- 22:27Speaker 7: ridgeline just a little bit. naturally because of gravity, you're
- 22:31Speaker 7: going to go downhill, right? It's easy to go downhill.
- 22:33Speaker 7: And sometimes it's harder to get back up on top
- 22:35Speaker 7: of the ridgeline just because of the way that gravity
- 22:37Speaker 7: is pulling us. And I think that our thoughts, our
- 22:40Speaker 7: desires and our emotions work very similarly that sometimes staying
- 22:46Speaker 7: in the lines seems very difficult.
- 22:49Speaker 6: So it's easy to just fall off and keep going
- 22:51Speaker 6: with that.
- 22:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I was going to say that, you know, staying
- 22:58Speaker 5: encouraged and staying inspired, that's only done through daily worship
- 23:04Speaker 5: and through, you know, daily intent and prayer with the Lord.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Something that kind of had come to my heart this week,
- 23:10Speaker 5: something that I'm kind of watching someone else deal with,
- 23:13Speaker 5: is sometimes we put our faith in humans and we
- 23:17Speaker 5: can worship them more than God without even realizing that
- 23:21Speaker 5: by choices, you know?
- 23:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:24Speaker 5: By going back to something that we know is not
- 23:27Speaker 5: good for us, but we're putting all of our faith
- 23:30Speaker 5: and trust in that person versus God.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Very slippery. People will let us down. Nowhere in Scripture
- 23:38Speaker 3: does it say trust in anybody but the Lord. Trust
- 23:41Speaker 3: in the Lord, trust in the Lord from Genesis all
- 23:43Speaker 3: the way to Revelation. Not to say, you know, they
- 23:46Speaker 3: should be trustworthy, especially if they're claiming to be a Christian.
- 23:49Speaker 3: We know the rules.
- 23:50Speaker 4: We got them.
- 23:51Speaker 3: We got a copy of the book. We know that
- 23:52Speaker 3: we have to play book, but people just don't always
- 23:55Speaker 3: do what you expect, especially kids. I've heard it. Uh,
- 23:59Speaker 3: when I was parenting, kids don't do what you expect
- 24:03Speaker 3: them to do. They do what you inspect them to do,
- 24:06Speaker 3: which kind of brings up the accountability factor, right? We
- 24:10Speaker 3: hold each other accountable, um, to walk in those lines.
- 24:14Speaker 3: And as a brother, um, uh, May drift. I'm going
- 24:19Speaker 3: to bring up another verse, Galatians 6.1, and we can
- 24:22Speaker 3: talk about that. Because I also live in a world
- 24:25Speaker 3: that says, don't judge me, don't judge me, don't judge me.
- 24:27Speaker 3: But we are called as Christians, if somebody falls in sin. Sorry,
- 24:34Speaker 3: is it Galatians 6, I think? Galatians 6. Where it says,
- 24:39Speaker 3: come on. Galatians 6.
- 24:45Speaker 7: Here we go.
- 24:45Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you
- 24:54Speaker 3: who are spiritual, restore such a one as spirit of gentleness,
- 25:02Speaker 3: considering yourself, lest you also be tempted, bearing one another's
- 25:05Speaker 3: burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. You know,
- 25:08Speaker 3: so we are called to help each other overcome. So, yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Back to you, Cody.
- 25:21Speaker 7: Up to me is Proverbs 4 and more specifically you
- 25:27Speaker 7: know towards the end of it in verse 20 in
- 25:31Speaker 7: verse 25 it says let your eyes look directly forward
- 25:35Speaker 7: and your gaze be straight before you ponder the path
- 25:38Speaker 7: of your feet then all your ways will be will
- 25:41Speaker 7: be sure do not swerve to the right or to
- 25:43Speaker 7: the left turn your foot away from evil right and
- 25:47Speaker 7: I think about that like even.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Joshua 1 8.
- 25:52Speaker 7: Set your mind on the book of the law, that
- 25:55Speaker 7: you're constantly setting our mind to the truth of God
- 25:58Speaker 7: and focusing on God, that whenever we put him at.
- 26:02Speaker 6: The forefront of everything.
- 26:04Speaker 7: It's amazing how everything else falls into line.
- 26:08Speaker 6: I was having a conversation yesterday that.
- 26:11Speaker 7: Whenever I put God first and I'm solely focused on
- 26:14Speaker 7: him and solely focused on communing with him, pleasing him,
- 26:18Speaker 7: and not from a performance perspective but just because i
- 26:22Speaker 7: love him and everything that he's done in my life
- 26:24Speaker 7: it makes me a better husband it makes me a
- 26:26Speaker 7: better father it makes me a better friend a better
- 26:29Speaker 7: colleague because i'm setting my mind to please the lord
- 26:33Speaker 7: and to be an ambassador for him that naturally the
- 26:37Speaker 7: rest of it just falls into place right whenever i
- 26:40Speaker 7: lean on my own strength and i say oh i
- 26:42Speaker 7: gotta do this i gotta do this i gotta do
- 26:43Speaker 7: this it really takes away from the the trueness of
- 26:48Speaker 7: god and i even think of like the fall After
- 26:51Speaker 7: Adam and Eve, it says that they sowed fig leaves
- 26:53Speaker 7: for themselves. So oftentimes, even now, we try to cover
- 26:59Speaker 7: up our own actions or we feel like I have
- 27:03Speaker 7: to do this because the Lord's not moving as fast
- 27:05Speaker 7: as I want. Again, the happiness, I look at it
- 27:08Speaker 7: in terms of my hands. But when I'm constantly focused
- 27:12Speaker 7: on him and I don't veer to the left, I
- 27:14Speaker 7: don't veer to the right, everything else just falls in
- 27:17Speaker 7: place the way that it's supposed to.
- 27:19Speaker 6: Even if it doesn't look the.
- 27:20Speaker 7: Way that I thought it would, you always see the
- 27:23Speaker 7: hand of God or those God wings show up in
- 27:25Speaker 7: our lives.
- 27:26Speaker 3: That's a good point. Closing thoughts, Rick? Just that, you know, the.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Lord's happiness is eternal. It's self-sustaining and like, you know, humans,
- 27:38Speaker 5: the things that we talked about. And I think when
- 27:42Speaker 5: that's misaligned, you know, whatever we're seeking is just going
- 27:47Speaker 5: to be temporary. It's not going to be lasting like
- 27:51Speaker 5: our promises from God. And, you know, just again, as
- 27:56Speaker 5: listening to everything that you guys are saying, just a
- 27:57Speaker 5: great reminder that our happiness involves humility, you know, obedience
- 28:02Speaker 5: and all these other things too, that will keep us
- 28:05Speaker 5: connected to the Lord and keep that long-term happiness, that
- 28:10Speaker 5: genuine happiness.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah. And that's blessed the blessings of the Lord that
- 28:15Speaker 3: comes with obedience, you know, for sure. So that's, that's
- 28:20Speaker 3: that true happiness when God is saying, well done, good
- 28:23Speaker 3: and faithful servant, even under tribulation, under persecution, under all
- 28:28Speaker 3: this stuff, we don't want to write into our story,
- 28:30Speaker 3: It's in our story. It's not a perfect world. But yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 3: managing our expectations too of other people definitely helps your
- 28:43Speaker 3: mental health condition, to say the least. And renew your mind,
- 28:46Speaker 3: renew your life. That's the second tagline. You mentioned that earlier, Cody.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Mental health matters. Renew your mind, renew your life. So
- 28:54Speaker 3: it's all what we're meditating on. Get into God's word, pray,
- 28:57Speaker 3: fellowship with other Christians. Talk it out. Even as we're
- 29:01Speaker 3: talking it out, the Holy Spirit will tell you if
- 29:04Speaker 3: you're off in one area or not. Rick, you want
- 29:07Speaker 3: to lead us in prayer? And then Cody? And then
- 29:09Speaker 3: we'll close?
- 29:11Speaker 6: Sure.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Okay. Heavenly Father, we just want to thank you again
- 29:14Speaker 5: for getting the opportunity to be here with the listeners
- 29:17Speaker 5: and to talk about your word and to talk about
- 29:20Speaker 5: your happiness, your genuine happiness and the promises that you
- 29:23Speaker 5: have for us. And Lord, we know that the enemy
- 29:26Speaker 5: can often stray us and And we can be confused
- 29:30Speaker 5: about what happiness really is and misalign our happiness with
- 29:33Speaker 5: the wrong things. And so we just ask that you
- 29:36Speaker 5: continue to be with us and guide us and strengthen
- 29:38Speaker 5: us and just give us that happiness that you want
- 29:42Speaker 5: us to have and we just ask for you to
- 29:46Speaker 5: bless all the listeners and so glad they're here today
- 29:49Speaker 5: and we're hoping that this message can help somebody and
- 29:52Speaker 5: pray these things in your son's name Amen.
- 29:58Speaker 7: Cody Heavenly Father, I thank you for the opportunity to
- 30:03Speaker 7: come together and to speak and to reveal.
- 30:07Speaker 6: Your word as truth, Lord. And Father, I pray that
- 30:10Speaker 6: as we're having.
- 30:13Speaker 7: These conversations, that the ultimate goal would be you, Lord,
- 30:18Speaker 7: that as we seek what we're supposed to seek, Lord,
- 30:21Speaker 7: that we wouldn't seek happiness, we wouldn't seek finite things,
- 30:25Speaker 7: we wouldn't seek emotions, but we would always seek you
- 30:27Speaker 7: first as the source of Lord, that if.
- 30:30Speaker 6: We want true joy, if we want true.
- 30:34Speaker 7: Peace in our lives, that we would just seek you
- 30:37Speaker 7: and know that from you that comes, that you.
- 30:40Speaker 6: Are the source of our joy, you are the source
- 30:42Speaker 6: of our peace, our happiness. You're the source of all things.
- 30:46Speaker 7: So Lord, I pray that we would never seek the
- 30:50Speaker 7: emotion or the, I guess, the end state of what
- 30:54Speaker 7: we think we need, but we would seek the source
- 30:57Speaker 7: of those things. And Lord, I just pray that this
- 31:00Speaker 7: message goes out to all those who need it. And
- 31:03Speaker 7: I pray that it would just be a spark of
- 31:06Speaker 7: internal reflection and this conviction of where are we putting
- 31:11Speaker 7: our thoughts? Where are we putting our minds? What are
- 31:13Speaker 7: we seeking? What are we setting our minds to? And
- 31:15Speaker 7: as Pastor Chuck said, what are we setting our gaze to?
- 31:18Speaker 7: And if it's on anything other than you, I just
- 31:21Speaker 7: pray that there would be that conviction, that renewing of
- 31:23Speaker 7: the spirit, that we would change our gaze to focus
- 31:27Speaker 7: on you.
- 31:28Speaker 6: And we would always be looking towards you. We wouldn't
- 31:30Speaker 6: veer to the left. We wouldn't veer to the right.
- 31:32Speaker 7: But we would always be focused on what you, because
- 31:36Speaker 7: when we focus on you and you're the main priority,
- 31:38Speaker 7: everything else falls into place. And that you would place
- 31:41Speaker 7: those in our lives to help us do that when
- 31:44Speaker 7: we don't recognize it within ourselves.
- 31:47Speaker 6: And I just pray this in the name of your son,
- 31:48Speaker 6: Christ Jesus. Amen. Amen.
- 31:51Speaker 3: I too thank you, Lord, for our partnership in the gospel,
- 31:54Speaker 3: shining our light here in Farmington, New Mexico, and letting it,
- 31:57Speaker 3: go far and wide through the worldwide web, through podcasts,
- 31:59Speaker 3: through television, internet panels, app channels, all that. And that
- 32:05Speaker 3: others would focus on you, your word and be doers
- 32:08Speaker 3: and obedient and the ripple effects that follow from the,
- 32:11Speaker 3: and the blessings that follow from obeying you. And I
- 32:15Speaker 3: thank you for those that are patient enough to help
- 32:17Speaker 3: others get out of the mud and after the train
- 32:20Speaker 3: wreck and to talk about it and to help show
- 32:23Speaker 3: compassion and love and grace and mercy to one another.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I pray that would be preeminent in the church as
- 32:29Speaker 3: we look to you as a source of all that
- 32:31Speaker 3: in Jesus' name. Amen, amen, amen. Well, another great episode.

- 33:15Speaker 5: Twice.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Hey, now, let's just say it's a little bigger than imagination, okay?
- 33:21Speaker 2: And the exhibits, they're so lifelike. There's just so much
