- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: a 4070 season and a season of life in the other and naturely baseball history from one of the Kodia Jr.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's a drag right on the Man of Heaven.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: The Man of Heaven, the Man of Heaven, amazing.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: He is happy.
- 0:45[UNKNOWN]: He hits this one hard.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: He hits the Man of Heaven.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: My truck has ripped him on him.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, guys?
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: My truck and listen to Sports Park's C.E.E.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're a current, buff on hand.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_03]: in the house for this week's episode.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_03]: Bubble was happening baby.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's up dude.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Another beautiful day here in Georgia.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Beautiful weather this week.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_03]: Brain has sprung.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Can you feel the masters in the air?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: I can, man.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's right down the road.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: I can feel it.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I can also tell that my car that used to be black is now yellow.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: So we're officially at that season here in Georgia.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: It is pollen season in the south of my friends.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_03]: Well, above I have a fresh shave and you know, no more winter foliage here.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: I'm looking looking like a baby face and I am ready for spring time down about 10 or 12 pounds and feeling good and it's time to rock and roll man.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: Spring training is almost over.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_03]: We have opening day like in 48 hours or less and so baseball has arrived my friend.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: It has man.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm ready.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: I am so ready.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: It is a it is arrived in our household.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: I hear the last couple of weeks of told y'all and this week and just reminded me of the grind that we're about to be in.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess we'll just go into the the week.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: What's been going on my week because.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Man, we this last weekend.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, oh, this is wonderful.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: We've got three boys that are playing travel baseball, but it's only this weekend going to be our older son.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be like a walk in the park.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that walk in the park turned into Friday afternoon games at six and eight p.m.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: not in Atlanta, a 88 miles on the other side.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: This is an 88 miles in the right direction.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: This is 88 miles, three at land of the Northside of town to Lake Point with real nice complex, beautiful complex, fair fields, beautiful, but you've got to pay for it to get there.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so we literally, I just took my two sons out of school when two older sons, we made a day of it, just so we could get through there.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: But there were people on our team, almost touching three hours to get there from our hometown to go 88 miles.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: Traffic was horrific.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: So that a walk in the park on on weekend did not turn out to be that we made that hall three different times up three different times back and so yeah pretty exhausting the organ trail it's like the way it was a trail of tears for sure we had four kids in the car I just finally came out in a couple times I was about to turn this bus around so.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a but it was good man getting my older son his first tournament and getting the jitters out for him, you know, whatever they step on the field for the first time kind of like spring training for them, you know, I mean, you haven't seen a real game in months and but just the excitement of it getting back into the game and now for us to have baseball on again, you know, the WBC kind of got us our juices flow it again right and getting everything ready and so I know we're ready over here to see the brays get starting and
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about the braves for just a second because I have to do it some of my week.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: Something that the world right now does not want to see the Atlanta Braves do well.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: Did you see yesterday that another pitcher went down Spencer Schreider?
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is literally five, five starting pitchers the Atlanta Braves have lost since, you know, back at the beginning of spring.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to stop again.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, bleak strain.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it won't be out long, but I mean, they just keep their good tests.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's minor league system and Fuentes did hear Fuentes man.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know if anybody's been watching what he's been doing, but a point six, six ERA in the spring kid struggled last year coming up.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: He is on fire.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: So, but yeah, that's that's what's going on in my world.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely geared up for baseball, continuing to held journey, staying on that track.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: feeling feeling better got through that kind of sickness that I had I kind of derailed me for a second but staying on the health journey committed to that journey.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: My wife's actually doing it along with me.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: She's like a like a sprite chicken over here.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, I've gotten her high school self again.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: So we're feeling good.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Life is good.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, excited about one more weather.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: We got the beach coming up here for us in two weeks spring break.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: So excited to see a beach.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know you live right there by the beach.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: So you get to see that regularly.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: But for us up here, we don't.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's good stuff, man.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I actually, on regular occasion, most days, I'll try to find an excuse to drive down to the beach, even to use that post office or whatever, just to see the water, it's refreshing.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so not baseball, but travel basketball.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_03]: has started in the hamhouse and Matthew's play in high school baseball, J.B. Ball.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_03]: So we've got like two or three J.B. baseball games during the week and then we have three boys playing travel basketball every weekend pretty much now through May.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_03]: And my wife and I had this moment this week and we're like, what are we doing?
- 5:25[SPEAKER_03]: How are we doing, you know what I mean?
- 5:28[SPEAKER_03]: And the thing for me, Bubba, is I've noticed how, like, I am a recovering youth sports addict, right?
- 5:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm okay enough to admit that now.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I had put so much energy and passion.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: I'm naturally passionate.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: I'm into anything I'm in and I'm not into anything I'm not into.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm, I'm on or off all or nothing.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_03]: And when you came,
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: my kids sports.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, oh my gosh, and it wasn't about like my kids got a win or he's got to do well.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: It was just like the energy around it and I was so like intense about it.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_03]: And a few years ago, I just had to say, man, I have to let all this go.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_03]: And now I kind of come up and I look around and I see a lot of folks that maybe aren't in the same mental space that I'm in.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm watching some of these folks react on the sidelines and I'm like, dude, like, it's going to be okay.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, to me, I can promise you like, you know, this little fake ring that they give the kid is not going to make her break the rest of their life.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like, the question is, is are we developing good adults?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I just don't know that so often this environment of high competition is developing good adults.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_03]: It's basically just teaching them to win.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_03]: when it all costs.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_03]: And by the way, since your ranked on point differential beat the ever loving crap out of the other team, too, you know, while you're at it.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, I'm not going to rant on travel sports, but I'm having a moment in my own mind and head about, you know, kind of the future of our kids and where we want to go with them and what kind of environments we want to put them in.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: So that's something my life and I have been really praying about a lot lately and just
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know, given a lot of thought to on the card front man, we're kind of coming off of the like what I would call the the Dallas low, you know, we had such a big time in Dallas and then the weekend after was so huge that last week was just like recovery week, you know, but we always talk about this like card fatigue is a real thing, you know, when you go hard for a short period of time, you go up.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_03]: Gosh, okay, I need a break.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_03]: I need a breather.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_03]: So no really no big acquisitions.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_03]: You know, just kind of watching the market as we turn.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_03]: We're just going to get an update on here in a second.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: But before we kick off and dive into, you know, the episode today and talk a little bit about the market spring training or whatever.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_03]: You had sent me something over the weekend.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_03]: just about anxiety and you and I had had a great conversation about this, you know, yesterday and we were like, dude, this should be recorded and so not to go back to the well, but I think it would be something helpful, you know, for our listeners, I think I appreciate, you know, a little insight into the combo that we had, but let's share that and let's talk about that for a minute.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so before we get there, I do want to touch on what you come in it about just your head space in general with travel sports a lot of y'all have kids a lot of y'all are in cards I mean card faces competitive right I mean the reality is it's in its own way it's kind of like a travel baseball sports cards in a way I mean it is a competitive environment everybody's got a
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Instagram or this and they're trying to flash cards and all this stuff and you can fall in the same trap in the card space because you can kind of get addicted to that front But I did I mean like ham you are my brother from another mother because I'm in the same way I mean they're all in or I'm all out.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean that's just my personality and with sports is my boys I've been young we have been all in and you know really what I've had to learn and I think I got a couple things right and this is for parents I mean kids come up and I think I've gotten a couple things wrong and
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think what I got right was I use travel sports for my kids, whether it be basketball, baseball football, it doesn't matter that that is their work ethic.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: We are going to work to achieve to a goal.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: Tell me what your goals are kids.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: What are the goals?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I want to do this.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do that.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do this and we work.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we work because when I was a kid, my parents ingrained into me a long time ago about work ethic.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I had responsibilities as a kid.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, my mom and dad, I mean, I was cutting the grass at a young age.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: I was picking up sticks.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was doing, and we always had work in our household.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, for my kids, they live a little different life.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we, we are on the go all the time.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: They're not out there doing the same type of responsibilities that I used to do.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of our other generations did.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: And so sports is going to become this work ethic thing for them.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I think there's another part of this.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's teaching them how to deal with failure.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when sports, you were going to especially baseball.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: It is a sport of failure that in, if you're in the Hall of Fame, you know, you're getting, let's just call it 300 is the average.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: You're failing seven out of ten times on on a bat.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: And for kids to understand that, that even if you're batting 500 is a tremendous batting average in travel sports or the competitive travel sports level, you're still failing one out of two times.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: Even if you're one of the best players in the country, you're failing one out of two times and kids struggle with that.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think with my kids, one of the biggest mistakes I made was not talking to them about that sooner that I pushed them so hard early on that it created this chip on their own shoulder,
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: can't fail.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: I can't make a mistake.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so I got to do this with my foot.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: I got to do this with my hands and just overcoaching that a bit.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: The work ethic part I love.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now we focus on as much as anything.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the swings a big part of the game and throwing a big part of the game, obviously.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: But the mental side is what we talk about every car ride.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: The middle side is what we talk about every day.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so on that front, you know, my oldest son, and we're going to anxiety now, my oldest son has done this thing for the last year, year and a half.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: He's always been a good baseball player growing up.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: And about a year, year and a half ago, I just noticed he started to lose confidence.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't the same bubbly kid that every at bat we used to when he was young.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he just, he had swag, right?
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: And all of a sudden that swag was replaced with like,
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: Tenidiveness like it and I'm like, well, what's happened to him?
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I was trying to figure it out, you know, I tried everything, what's going on, what's going on, and then I realized this last weekend, even as first tournament, we've worked so hard just to December to be ready.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we put in a ton of work.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: We've hit every single day and he got in the box his first at bat and I'm sitting there watching I'm like, okay, here we go.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're ready to go.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: He gets in there.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's ready to go first pitch.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't load.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: And for any of y'all that know the baseball swing, you're standing here, you've got to have either some sort of hip load, leg load, ham load, something to get you prepared to be able to hit this pitch.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: We work on that every single day.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: He literally is standing there, see ball hit ball, just go straight to the ball, right?
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: He hits the ball, but there's nothing on it, right?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because there's no energy transferred back to the backside, and it's almost like he's blocking out, right?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sitting here and I'm talking to actually how we can is primary cans dad.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: My sons go to him occasionally up on.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the north side of times a long way away from us.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: But how he is the best mental coach I've ever been around with kids.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's phenomenal.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I got to ask him and I'm like, how are you like with Jack standing there?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I said, what do you think is going on here?
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, we practice every single day.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: He gets in there.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's cementally what Jack is trying to do is just make contact.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want to fail, right?
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, let's go do damage and crush this ball at the outside to defense.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't want to fail right in his mind failure is missing a ball or missing a pitch.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: And so anyway, I just want to share that with people in general and how that ties into anxiety.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so it happened to be on Sunday.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: we get back in from a game and you know, and his team ended up going to in one, but he just didn't have the weekend that he had won it, put all this work in a distance to December and he's kind of dejected about a swing and dad, you know, I don't know what to do.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: And all of a sudden in life, I started to feel realizes this.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot of y'all will if you kind of open our minds and our hearts and our eyes of this, things happen for a reason.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I click on the Instagram, I hadn't been on it all weekend and busy, and this article pops up.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: And it says, hover found one question that stops panic in 90 seconds, if he seals use it.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: On a 16, orver researchers asked 400 people on anxiety spirals, one question.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: This one question stopped 83% of panic loops in under 90 seconds.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: And here was this question.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: What do I know for certain right now so when we think about that okay, and we think about like what do I know for certain right now But you don't know for certain that you're gonna get out you don't know for certain any of those things.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you know for certain one jacks case and that's what I told him that's all my voices you've done the work
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: you are prepared, right?
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: And you know that, you know, you know that you have done everything you could do to go in this point into this event.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know that no matter what happens in this event, Jesus Christ is still your Savior.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and like there's, you know, that your mom and dad are still going to love you after this game.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like you're going to go home and you're going to be okay.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think that for so many kids and people in general, and I'm going to relay this now anxiety back to myself.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if y'all recall this, but what happened to my dad back in December?
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really know if I talked about it on the show much, but I went through probably the worst 30 day period of my life from about mid-December to January 15th.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was, it was so bad at one point ham, I sat out by my pool.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: I remember just feeling like debilitated.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I felt like I couldn't do normal day-to-day task.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, the sun could come out, I'd been cold in Georgia and there was just a crack a sun and I went out late by my pool and I just literally just took all my clothes off pretty much other than my underwear and I just laid there was like, man, just I got to get the sun on me and I remember calling my wife like, I don't know how I'm going to get through this.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: and looking back on it now, what had created all this anxiety was uncertainty.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, when we think about what creates anxiety, and it had to guy call me the other day, randomly out of the blue, say, hey, I'm dealing with anxiety.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I've had multiple people since I've gone through this anxiety going through it.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Some of y'all probably didn't do the same thing, but what I had to realize was, this anxiety comes from us in our minds doubting something.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: In my case, it was uncertainty of, is my dad going to survive.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Is my dad going to live?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: What am I, what if tomorrow wake up and my dad's gone?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Who's my best friend?
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then my best friend for my whole life.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: What if he's gone?
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: How do I live my life without him?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, then all the sudden it spiraled to what if I die?
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: What happens to my kids?
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: What happens to my family?
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: What if I have a heart attack?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and so I just, I wanted to share this on the show because,
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: it has been a huge part of my story for this year and really getting through this and it will try to creep back in on us every single day whenever uncertainty happens or pressure comes and so I wanted to share that with us.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a good reset anytime you're going through that.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to my own kids about it.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: when they're at the plate.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: What do I know for certain?
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I know for certain right now that my dad is alive.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: I do get to talk to my dad today.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: I am alive.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm wake up and I've started this at Root scene this year every single day that I start my day with this.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a tip that I think and I know this is a baseball podcast but it's also a life podcast is that every day I wake up grateful.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: No matter if I feel woke up this morning, I didn't feel as good as I could, if I was at 40% but I sit there and I take that moment before I get up and I do anything else and I start with just thanks and I start with just saying, you know, thank you for today.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for my family.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for giving me another day on this earth.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for the sun.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for the moon.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for the stars.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for everything that you've given me, Lord.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: When I start my day that way,
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Every single day is better.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: So and again, anybody that's ever going through anxiety.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: I have so much respect for you because I've been there and
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you ever feel like you need help in that regard, I'm here to help you because it's a bad place to be and I just wanted to share that because I felt like something compelled me seeing that this Sunday and what I went through that I needed to share that on the pod this week and some of y'all may have tuned me out to me and I don't deal with anxiety and I hope you never do but if you do go back to that what do I know for certain right now and generally it's probably not as bad as you think it is.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Bob, I appreciate Sharon, man, and just, you know, the throw some thoughts in myself, you know, it's interesting.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_03]: We have these seasons of life, right?
- 17:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we have to remember that there are seasons for a reason.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_03]: And those seasons have the opportunity to develop us in greater capacities.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_03]: If we allow it, you know, to mean it might be a season of anxiety, it might be a season.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: But it's, it's not a permanent thing.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, personally, on my end, you know, I've had a really interesting season.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think I've shared on the pod before,
- 17:38[SPEAKER_03]: Gosh, in 2018, so eight years ago, and went into ministry full time and had all these ambitions and all these high desires or whatever that did not go the way I anticipated it.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_03]: So at 42 years old, I had to hit reset basically with no income and no equity and no nothing.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I started back over and we started early Oak Insurance Group.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_03]: And the last couple of years for me personally have been a grind to just make sure that my family has enough money each month to pay the bills.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_03]: And we have money in the sense of equity and savings that has helped us bridge the gap.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: Pure income.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_03]: and it worked really, really hard to get the income to a point.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_03]: And what's funny is I told you this yesterday, last month is the first month that the income, alone, no savings, no whatever, the income took care of where we needed to be, right?
- 18:23[SPEAKER_03]: And it was such a victory for me on a man's side, on an ego's side.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, okay, I finally got back to this place where you know if provided for my family, but the thing that happened in that same moment was my health was awful.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_03]: like I literally couldn't walk at the card show with my son and I'm sitting here going like wow I got what I needed and wanted over here but over here it seemed to have cost me my health I can't even walk around my hat like and so it was great perspective for me because it was like be mindful of the things you're pursuing.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_03]: be mindful of the things you're chasing and be mindful of the things that you put value on because there's so much anxiety that you can build around, you know, income or money or whatever it might be and you might get that thing and you might realize it's not what you really wanted in the first place because of what it caused you to get there.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's a really thing.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: One of the things for me with anxiety is anytime I've struggled with anxiety or just, you know, kind of a spirit of heaviness or whatever, it's really been about misplaced hope.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: It's like I've put hope in something that didn't turn out the way I wanted it to and that's what causes the stressor anxiety.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_03]: And so I can take ownership of that and say, man, I actually placed hope in this person and this thing.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_03]: And that's on me.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: Now, yes, they did betray me or this situation didn't work out, but I put my hope and expectation in that.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_03]: And it was like a misplace hope.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_03]: So back to your point.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_03]: When you can kind of hit reset and re-ground yourself and properly place your hook that we see it in sports cards dude, then this is a card podcast baseball podcast when people's life revolves around the cards and card transactions in the expectation of cards doing well and they travel to a show with you know needing to do this this and it doesn't happen, you know the main and they get down and they get to
- 20:12[SPEAKER_03]: or then they may be spiral into an addiction or they dive in and try to double up and gamble and they lose.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, it is a nasty, nasty moment.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, we just want people to understand that like, you're not alone in this kind of thought process or challenges and we want to just say, hey, guys, if you need anything, if you're walking through a difficult moment, you know, we're here to help.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm, you know, me not clinically like we're not, you know,
- 20:35[SPEAKER_03]: doctors or anything like that.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_03]: But at the same time, we are guys who've walked through the stresses of jobs and family and kids.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's okay to break down the wall of taboo and just say, hey, it's real.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_03]: And for those of you who might be in that moment, like we see you, we hear you, it's going to be okay.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's a season that we've all walked through.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, kind of get through it together with community.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_03]: So I appreciate you sharing it.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a good thing to just remind our listeners of,
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I did want to share too, so have kind of become friends a little bit with Nate George's dad.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, the prospect Nate George, Baltimore Royals, been on him for a while, kind of met him through cards here about a month ago and one night we just got to talk and I'm a wee, man, we message for hours, just talking and really just baseball, right?
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: My kids are baseball, his kids obviously Nate George is
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: lived baseball and kind of got at this point and you know I was just he was asking about my sons and just said yeah you know one of my sons my sons kind of deal with this you know almost anxiety we talking about a failure how did you get Nate through that he said man Nate used to deal with the same thing when he was younger you know just couldn't deal if something was going wrong he would really eat him up and
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that's well, how did he get through it?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he said he started to realize that baseball wasn't his identity.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: That after baseball, he had something greater than that.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll share that link.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: He sent me Nate did a testimony like a testimonial of his life.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: finding a relationship with God and he shared all that.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's just really good story to go back and listen, Nate talks about his story and being in the minor leagues and kind of being away and being alone and his story through.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'll share that next week on the pod and we can put that in the comments or whatever down below.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: So people have that story.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_00]: But just really cool when you see that again, that same story that you know, use a guide that's excelling now and just took that pressure off himself.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think we can all learn from that,
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: is what we have to do.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, and I know we're about to get into baseball things, but I owe this to Salvatore.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, this is something I promised Mr. Salvatore was going to do.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, I've made a purchase of a Red Aiden Miller a couple weeks ago, and met Mr. Salvatore, he goes by Sal, and he is a teacher at Bux County Technical High School in Pennsylvania.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: He is the computer system, technology class, and
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm shouting out at Bucks County Technical High School, Pennsylvania.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm shouting out the 9th, 10th, and 11th, and 12th grade.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, sales the man, he hooked me up with an Aiden Miller Red.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: I told him I was shouted on the show.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: So again, thanks, South, for the deal in Bucks County Technical High School.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's awesome man.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: I love when we have this kind of community build and these folks all over the country Did we get the connect with and you know the mean man, it's just special and I love it So for listeners, thank you guys and like I said we took the first 20 minutes today to just share our heart Something we've walked through so for those of you that relate to that we hope it was helpful for those that are ready for some baseball chatter
- 23:21[SPEAKER_03]: We can go ahead and dive into that now.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_03]: So that being said, Baba, if you remember a couple of months ago on the show, we had none other than the silence ass and Nick Tucker.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_03]: We were talking about the baseball market, the baseball market.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_03]: What's the baseball market going to do?
- 23:37[SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm going to replay this clip.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: Because this clip, you put 300 grand on the line here, big boy.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_03]: Did I look at it?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_03]: Here we go, we're ready for this clip.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: Let's replay this clip from the SportsCard CEO a couple of months back.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: 100 grand down on the table right now.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: We're all putting 100 grand down.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and the winner, the winner with the right answer gets 300 grand.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so that wants that out serious.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to take this for our listeners today.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so Nick can put your 100 grand down.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: Ham put 100 grand down.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm putting 100 grand down.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, and that's all serious.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: I want this answer to be in 60 days.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: What's Nick tech, we're gonna come back to this.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: and you're going to virtually pay each other $100,000.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: Here are the winners.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's a stake or whatever else.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: What is the number in 60 days?
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: Up on the year 1.4% for 9% on the year, which is called that.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: What are we up the opening day?
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's a whole, for the year.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: 30.2.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: Ooh, 30.2.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: Big Matt, big Matt's going to say 18%.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I'm going to go.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_03]: with 15.8.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so there you have it.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: We went on camera to say, market increase, baseball market only increased from beginning of the year to opening day, opening day is literally the day this airs tomorrow.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_03]: So, Nick said 30, I said 18 and you said 15.8.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: So, how are we feeling about that, Baba?
- 25:05[SPEAKER_03]: Let us see where the real number is right.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see, who virtually is going to win the 300 grand here?
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right now today be a card ladder right now today.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: We are a 10.2% alt was showing us almost essentially the same numbers.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously we got a couple days.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: They got update their information.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we end up at 10.5.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we end up at 11.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: But it's going to be somewhere in that 10 to 11% ratio.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: So virtually Mr. Hamm, I need you to wire me $100,000.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_03]: You're right.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Tucker owes us both.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: He went 30.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: He owes us both 100 grand.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: Nick, Nick, Nick, I think you'll unup to that for sure.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: So our exuberance was a little overshot, you know, and I think what that what I'm seeing is, you know, honestly, we had this really good moment and I'm early on in this market.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, January was strong.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what we were all feeling in that moment was January was strong.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: And February was kind of strong.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden, somewhere in the last, probably about four weeks ago, I felt it.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: Would you say that's right, ham three or four weeks ago?
- 26:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I would say that far ago.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_03]: I would say it was more like two weeks ago.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_03]: It felt like once the world baseball classic came on, everybody forgot about actual baseball like spring training.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: Everything's switched.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was this weird field like everybody was trying to time this market.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: those about to be this mass exodus that has happened.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: And now what's funny about it is I feel like it's going back the other way a little bit again.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like we went kind of flat almost to dip down on some of these markets.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: And now you've had this little crater down here and now it's ready to go again.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what's going to be really interesting is what the next four to six to eight weeks are going to look like.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we need to touch on that real quick to start the show as we're looking at the next four to six weeks.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: What is that going to look like?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we got a really, really, really, you could just go when you're trying to predict stuff like this, no matter what stock marketer that you can just go by what you've seen in the past, and what you have seen take place really in the last month.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: My prediction on this card market is, if you thought spring training this year was hyperactive in the way cards were moving, get ready for the next two to three to four weeks.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: If a guy comes out opening day, and he hits two bombs, his stuff is going nuclear.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: If a guy comes out in the first week, and he's batten O50, there's going to be an overreaction.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: And it's what you're going to see in the next four weeks.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think really where you can navigate this is,
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully you've already stashed the guys that you believed in.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have the big years.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully you've kind of looked at the guys that you're saying, I've been wanting to buy more of these guys, but I didn't because their prices may be never dropped or I never got this opportunity.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Two different things are going to happen.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to have opportunities where people are going to go south on some of these guys because they have a slow start, even though they may have a great finish to the year.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: I see that as a buying opportunity.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be looking for those.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: As people kind of get forgotten.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be looking for those buying opportunities.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're going to have these other opportunities where there's going to be exuberance out there on certain performances that are not, are not worthy of it.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: And days are opportunities to sell into that.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: And so my, you know, in the third thing is, I think you're looking for it's who's now after you've watched two, three, four weeks, who's Cal Raleigh of this year?
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: Who was actually going to be able to bring these performances of, wow, you know, we thought, count, oh, it's just a kind of a flash in the pan.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was Calarolli going to do it all year last year where he did, right?
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: And a couple of years ago, Terrick Scooble, when he kind of first started doing the beginning of the year, he hadn't done it before.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: All of a sudden, is this real?
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it was.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: Paul schemes.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, was it real?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it was.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's guys that come out beginning of seasons.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: And they start hot, and then they do nothing.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think you've got to be doing that evaluation on yourself, the card market, and the same thing is going to happen on Bowman and prospects.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to have this kind of role going on some guys.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: Guys are going to get forgotten because new releases come out.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: These guys were flashier or some all the hot flashy stuff.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to get the attention.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be looking for the guys that are kind of underlyingly flying under the radar that I've been wanting to buy that I'm going to try to gobble up when those prices drop it all.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: If we get that 10% pullback, 15% pullback on some of these guys that I really love, I'm going to be looking for those opportunities.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll give you an example right now.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: A Miller's market was red hot, right before spring training.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: People in myself included had a ton of expectations for a Miller.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: We hadn't played a single, he hadn't played a single play yet, right?
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: Because his bat has been hurt.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: Her back has been hurt.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: And naturally, his markets kind of stalled out.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going like cratering down, but it's stall out.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so if it starts to go that other way in drops, I'm gonna be buying.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Cause that nothing's changed for me with Aiden Miller.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: He just unplayed.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, with that being said, I'm gonna get your opinion on that.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I know we wanna talk about kind of what's who's next as well.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, the the residency bias is a really, really big thing and it's the what have you done for me lately and that is what drives so much of this market and I think to stay on top of that and to be, you know, aware of that is really, really big, but it's not just what have you done for me lately, it's what have you done for me lately and is there hyper around it there has to be hyper around it because you could have some God that, you know, people are kind of down on he hits a couple of home runs and people like, oh, yeah, whatever, like Samuel Bassaya like Bassaya hit a couple of home runs early in spring training and nothing happened.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: And then all of a sudden, later in spring training, he had to a couple more and they're like, oh, semi-bassayo can hit.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_03]: And now Bassayo's market is going crazy.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_03]: Like, we literally had a, I think we had a gold PSA non or whatever that we put on auction because we've got a few other ones or whatever.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_03]: And it was like flat.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_03]: dead flat.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, dude, the guy doesn't have any blues.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this is a great, you know, card.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_03]: It seems undervalued and yet here we are.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so it's interesting.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_03]: You have to kind of be strategic with the timing on longouts like that.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, I wanted to, um, and I agree with you.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think I think you have to be so on top of the game.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: But the hard part is as soon as a guy goes and starts raking, like if a guy hits a home run, like eBay gets popped off like that.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's like boom, boom, boom, you know what I'm saying?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like the cards just go.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's soon as the performance happens.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_03]: So you have to be ahead of the game, you know, to have your cards.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_03]: And that goes, that goes for people.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just a little tip.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_03]: If you own cards of guys that are prospects and those cards are not on eBay at a mass market as like a buy it now or whatever, you almost can't react fast enough when the hype hits to get that card out there and get it on the market.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, I have a perfect example.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_03]: We bought, you know, a couple of boxes to rip of 25 boom and got in some case breaks.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the guys, Kate Anderson, the pitcher for the Mariners or whatever, you know, I went ahead and I listed all the base chrome and all the base refractors that we hit.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: And I threw him out there on eBay.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: You know, as soon as something happens for that guy, those things get snatched up.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_03]: you know, and so the same goes with your autos and your color stuff, you know, have it out there, have it out there at 20% over comp.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_03]: And if the guy hits, you never know what happens.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_03]: And if it goes a month and nothing happens, you can pull it down and re-list it or whatever, that's a little side note.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_03]: But that said, Baba.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_03]: I want to talk about our three guys.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_03]: that we've been on for a year and talk about spring training and that's Connor McGonagall and weatherhole and then don't talk about a couple guys in spring training that we might have missed on maybe we didn't miss on them overall because we own some inventory but they had really big springs and it's
- 32:33[SPEAKER_03]: going to translate and then we're going to kind of close the episode out here today with this, you know, who do we feel like has the gas in the tank?
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: Who do we feel like has the market in the prime position to have a really strong April?
- 32:46[SPEAKER_03]: So, go on to our top three guys, Connor McGonagall, and weather hope.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: two of the three will make the opening day roster or one of the three can we know yet uh... it appears that we only know about to i mean my god it was pretty much a lock he's gonna be going to make the roster as well so conor obviously was expected uh... i don't think we ever expected him to know we didn't want to yeah we did not expect that he was ever going to crack opening day roster
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, financial reasons they are obviously, honestly, too.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, under getting a little more time to kind of get down there and develop and see more pitching and is the number one prospect in baseball against 19 years old, I have no reason to rush him, right?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think if they get in there and they see, look, wow, you know, look, look, this is what he's done at AAA.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: He will see the major leagues.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: I would be certain this year.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: that he will see the major leagues.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: JJ weatherhole officially yesterday did make the team a wouldn't be surprised on that team.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's batting lead off starting second baseman and then obviously McGonagall for the Tigers.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's a foregone conclusion that you know he'll be make the team.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that they've announced it yet, but I mean he will.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean he will be.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's had a great spring.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: So two of the three obviously made rasters.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think both of those guys as we've talked about him before, McGonagall and JJ, and
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think they have to be the favorites, both in their respective divisions for AL and in L, rookie of the years, if Connor gets a chance to come up earlier, obviously I think he'll push yet.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: But those are my two favorites for the year.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing's really changed with those guys.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: Other than the only thing that's really changed for me is that I continue to get higher and higher on my GONNAGLE.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's really happened over the last year, GONNAGLE's the real deal, man.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_00]: He can hit.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean the dude is a absolute ball player, and so I've actually been gobbling up myself quite a bit of a gonna go where I can Because I think he's a hell of a player and JJ is two all three of these guys I mean we're lucky to have had and get to be a part of kind of this journey to see these three guys there and
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think what's next down is that's we're all asking that like who is we've taught at that episode with arm like who is next we're going to figure that out the next 90 to 120 days Who's next but I'm going to tell you right now these these three guys are going to be in my opinion.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think these are superstars over the next five to 10 years
- 34:52[SPEAKER_03]: So let's talk about these three guys, right?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_03]: So Connor first off, like we saw Connor's market just go absolutely ballistic as we said it would, right?
- 35:01[SPEAKER_03]: And again, they say or say what they want to say, whatever.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_03]: The reality is is when the number one prospect in baseball comes out and spring training, I don't care what his batting average was, you know, he hits home runs out of the stadium and he hits two in a game and he hits four overall, there's going to be hype around it.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_03]: when he's also 19 and six foot four and runs like Bo Jackson.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know what I mean?
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: You get these crazy comparisons.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_03]: And when you have the baseball America guys, can't compare him to a more athletic Cal Ripkin.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_03]: Or A Rod.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, I thought I heard somebody say something about, you know, the floor is Bobby Witt and the ceiling's Derek Geter or something crazy.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_03]: Like Derek Geter or Power, you're like, okay, we're in a whole different stratosphere now.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: But now everybody's going to see he didn't make the roster, whatever.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_03]: Conor's market has softened a little bit.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_03]: I would say, but you're also to still have so much like built in potential there because the ceiling is so high and he's still 19 years old, so that's kind of my stance on the kind of market.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_03]: Go over to McDonald's, McDonald's 21, so Connor could be where McDonald is in a year and a half.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: And still be, you know what I mean?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_03]: That's the reality people don't understand.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: Donacles 21, and has had a ridiculous spring, and his market has finally started to respect itself, you know what I mean?
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: And he's starting to get the hype.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_03]: And I do it.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think that guy, that guy could come out of the gate and have a couple of big games early and start off April batten in the 300s, you know, if he continues his hot streak and his stuff's gonna just continue.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: to to go crazy.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think both of these guys are up honestly.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think JJ I'm going to go over both going up in the first 90 days.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean I I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I think they're going to double but I think they're going to go up.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't see them declining.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think people are going to get they're finally they've been hearing about them.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now they get to see them on live television.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see them on Sports Center.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that a lot of people that are not in the card market don't understand, like we are a niche, like very exclusive crew of people who follow prospects this early in the game.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_03]: Those people just sitting on the couch to Troy fans, figures fans, whatever, watching ESPN, they might have heard about Kevin McGonagal, but now the sudden if Kevin McGonagal hits a home run.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_03]: and he's on sports center.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Kevin McGonagal, let's go get some of his cards or whatever.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_03]: So like, we are the early adopters that are ahead of the curve.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's when these guys do debut and have these performances that then the hordes kind of come in and that's what drives these market values.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_03]: But go to JJ weatherhold, weatherhold's 23.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: So he's got two years almost on McGonagal and almost four years on Connor.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: Weatherhold of those three guys, his market is the softest.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, and he has a bad spring.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think anything dynamic, but, you know, what are your thoughts there on kind of like his market and where it should be?
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, obviously, he had a huge red sale with showed that on the upper end of his cards.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's got people very interested, you know, in the higher end stuff.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think his
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: kind of lower in stuff has never for whatever reason the 499's never got the same kind of attention as some of these other guys the blues were not getting any attention at some points early on like I mean I'm talking like a year year and a half ago other whole blues were criminally cheap.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm out with some points they were like 300 bucks 200 video bucks and now here he's like 1100 bucks for a raw PSA 9 whatever comes to
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: So his cards have always been a little less, but then he got some momentum on his oranges and his reds and some of that.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so I just think for JJ, I've said it before on the show and I'll say it again, Cardinals fans have been looking for somebody like him.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think in general and I think he's gonna show some pop.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I had a second basement in baseball to see him coming through.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think in general, this is the best crop of second basement we've had ready to come and I'm mentioned some other names here in the bit, but I'm very, very high on JJ weatherhold.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: Just as a true hitter, big time hitter, a good baseball player.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to, I think he's going to adapt to the major leagues very well.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: I see him being a guy that could push, you know, 30 home runs a year, 25, 30 home
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: I love J. J. Weatherhold.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: I still do.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, we want to see him go out and perform in the major leagues.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we're all looking for.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I still like him.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be all these three.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still very bullish on all three of them.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_03]: So those have been our three guys.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: That's the horse we wrote in the town on and we still, you know, obviously still like them.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_03]: Because you now you look at the guys, maybe who not say misses, but guys that were not necessarily on the top of the radar who had incredible springs.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_03]: And I saw this.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to pull up the stats here, you know, I saw this the other day.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_03]: Dude, I didn't even know until somebody showed me, dude, Matt McLean, what a spring that dude had.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, nuclear dude, dude, it's seven home runs.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_03]: He batted five 29.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_03]: Had an OPS of of 1.591, almost 1.6.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_03]: So Matt McLean, talking about, you know, second base talent or whatever, what a spring for him.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: Do you feel like he's a guy that could get high pretty?
- 40:04[SPEAKER_03]: You just feel like that's just a spring research.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, I, I, I was high on Matt McLean two years ago and it's funny how when someone goes through injuries and has a bad year, how quick you can fall out of favor.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, two years ago, Matt McLean, I was all over and I'm how to tell him I'm bought and sold him and he fell out of favor, you know, when he had a bad season last year and rightly so.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when again, in baseball card market and football card market doesn't matter.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not performing, your your cards are gonna, they're gonna get crushed.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_00]: And they did, and I think people have seen this spring, man.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he is healthy.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this is the real deal when you
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: you go out and do what he did this spring single handedly the best hit or spring training it's there's reason to be excited there i think i mean again that that red steam in general a sal steward also had a great spring there no they marked a well done marked a had a great spring i think the red's gonna they're gonna hit man and i think the claim's gonna hit so i like the claim that's obviously one that had a huge spring and here's got the list that i wrote down this morning and uh ham chipping here
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: Where you want Wyatt Langford absolutely red hot had a huge spring cold young.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, another forgotten guy guy that was talked about, you know, and honestly the cold young thing.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I missed.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: I was done with cold young about a year ago.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: I owned three or four reds of cold young at one point.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly got out majority of my co-youngers still had some left and I was just like I don't believe in this guy I looked at the stats he didn't have the pop as like he's never gonna have the pop He's not gonna have this co-young Mates and serious changes.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: They were talking about what he did physically and the mayor has spent a lot of time with him in the all season
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's a guy that had in the last week.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, the research I've done on Koyon because I went back and looked at these spring numbers and said what changed here started doing the research on him.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: The mayor has put a ton of time into that kid.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so I all of a sudden I'm very bullish on Koyon.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's a guy that I think I think that was real.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: Shaling Aleers, another guy that was an ex-brave prospect, top prospect, guys always had crazy pop showed his pop again this spring.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: That A's team is loaded with young talent, people who don't forget about Jacob Wilson, don't forget about soda strong, don't forget about Lawrence Butler, that team is loaded with young talent, so definitely still like him.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: But guy I've been talking to
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I've said it all spring the dude is for real and from our local area here finally Finally got a little bit of attention this spring and that's Brady House a guy that was absolutely forgotten had a huge spring I mean Brady House did nothing this spring but hit so Brady's gonna get an opportunity third base and and to show out another local guy Not just choosing my local guys just so happens that these guys had big springs this guy nobody wanted six months ago
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I remember his stuff sitting on on the market and it was like it was tainted Charlie Condon.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's on Charlie County.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: What Charlie County can do this year going out west in the spring?
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they do could hit serious bombs out there in the minor league's spring.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: So high on Charlie Condon, a couple other guys that this group right here and I'm going to mention two specifically.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to mention this guy's name first because I'm not
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: as sold on him as the other two but the other two I'm all in on okay and if I could buy every card available at a decent price of these next two I would and we need to add these to our list ham Kobe mayo I think is gonna have a really good year Kobe mayo was a top prospect again for gotten I think he's gonna have a really good year for the world he's had a great spring spring training I think he has a great year I really do
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: But he's not on that list of guys that I'm like, hey, we got to be buying the two that I think I think are extremely underpriced that I think could be super stars and I'm one of them is absolute my favorite player in all of major league baseball as a prospect coming up and I've bought a lot of them.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: I still own a lot of them.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: Luke Keschel.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Luke Keschel.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: I saw last year when he played the Braves.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: The announcer's were talking about him almost being like a mini mic trout at that age.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: The dude bats if you just, he all he does is hit.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's like McGonagall, but he's not not talked about, right?
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's a the dude rips.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: He batted over 300.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's batted like three.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember the numbers in front of me, but
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: maybe 350 this spring.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's got power.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's got speed.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, if he stays healthy, Luke Keysholt me, he showed it in the major last year when he got a cup of coffee.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: All he did was hit.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Luke Keysholt's probably my favorite buy right now.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: Um, of guys that I think are going to break out.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: I would not be surprised.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: If Luke Kiechel is two times the price he is at the end of the season, maybe more because it's going to go.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's one of those years where people are going to sit and back going easy for real, I think he is.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: So Luke Kiechel and then the other one is chased a lotter.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: Chase a lotter hit two bombs last night again.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: The guy can rip similar stories a little older.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: He was a high in prospect years ago has not been able to stay healthy and prove that he was healthy and chased a lotter is.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: proving he's healthy right now and chased a lot or can hit.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: There's no questioning whether chased a lot or can hit the baseball.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: So those are some names.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: To note, I know we didn't talk pictures.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to talk one picture and again, all admit where I was wrong.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_00]: I watched this kid last year and watched the brace bring this kid up and was asking myself, what in the hell are
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: why is this kid in the major leagues?
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: He clearly didn't need to be there.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: He had no confidence.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: His stuff was good, but he just didn't have it all together to be in the pros.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: And the Bryce sit him out there last year to get roasted.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: Did he hear Fuentes?
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: With dispenser strider injury.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: The card market sharp, though.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: I've been buying the heck out of Flint as they are on him.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: They are on Flint as well.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: There is a legit chance this kid, if he can, this kid could be a number one number two starter in the brave for years to come.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's young, he's got, I mean, his, his fastball hams almost hit as high 90s now.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's added for my priority still growing.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Didier Fuentes could be a guy that I mean, his prices.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think his goals and oranges are three, four, five, six hundred bucks.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: As we see what pitchers, I mean, if he, if he pulls the yassavage and goes out there, his card market could go three, four, five hundred percent from where it sits.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of my list.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I had, you know, I had certainly had sounds stored down here, coal, young white, laying for it.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_03]: And I think white, laying for it is a guy who could legitimately make a run like an MVP type season, like, oh, yeah, got that kind of bad.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_03]: He's got that kind of speed, like I just, I think that he, his ceiling is just so so high.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I love what you said about Delauder and Kishul like Delauder we even showed like we bought a Delauder gold at a show somewhere I don't know probably like mid jute mid January maybe early February nobody was really on the water and dude I think we doubled up on it at Dallas.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it was like it was crazy.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_03]: You know that that that stuff happens super fast and so if you're
- 46:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if you want to win, you've got to be willing to take the risks and not all of them hit, you know, not all of them hit, but think about it this way.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_03]: If you have, you know, five guys that you pick and one of them doubles up two of them are up 20 or 30% and then two of them are up or down 10% or down 20% you're still in a really, really good spot.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_03]: So you have to be willing to kind of take the risk and spread it across a few different guys.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_03]: And then keep an eye on your timing and you'll do well.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_03]: The challenge is when you kind of have this anticipation that the guy's going to be, you know, the next next next and you hold it for too long.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and I say it all the time when I talk a little Matt, I said, you know, if you, if you pay wrong and hold long, you'll lose.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_03]: you know and and that's that's how you lose in the game if you pay wrong and hold long and and if you're if you're smart with it which is hopefully what we help people do you can do really well and I think opening day and April could be huge so I want to talk a little bit about a couple of guys Bubba as we kind of close out the episode
- 47:59[SPEAKER_03]: These are guys that I feel like could see some resurgence like existing players, you know, whatever, who do you feel like or the top guys that could really come out and have a strong moment in April and see some significant uptick.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: Now again,
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: We get your showhaves, we get your Bobby Whits or whatever.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'm kind of talking about guys that are not on that top echelon, that top tier.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_03]: Who are some guys you think you could go out and scoop a couple of cards up today and roll the dice on and then come out, you know, may first and, you know, see a nice little bump.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, I think, I mean, again, call this the Homer and me guys if you want, but I think the Atlanta Braves in general, last year had about a bad season as you could have.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: And they have a lot of really good players on that team and their offense just had a putrid season and so what happened to all the cards there?
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: They got smoked.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the guys that I think this guys at future Hall of Famer, Matt Olson has had a phenomenal spring.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: Matt Olson is criminally cheap for what he is.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: necessarily in 30 days and making money on, but I think you look at the end of the year where Matt Olson's place is where, I mean, he was almost an MVP two years ago, Ad Olson is criminally cheap.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, criminally cheap.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Austin Riley, Michael Harris, those three guys, I'm putting all three of those guys is having tremendous seasons compared to what they had last year, but the number one out of all three of those is Ronald Acunia.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: Ronald Acunia in my opinion is a top five baseball player and major league baseball.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: and he is not trading that way.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Ronald Acunia has got the flash.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's got, he's got a steel base this year.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's been running all spring.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's in for a tremendous season.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I love that Braves pool players.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: I honestly think all of them have been underpriced rightly so because they didn't perform.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: Acunia's injuries and the team had a bad season, but I do like the value of those players.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: Another guy that I feel like, and this is the kind of an offshoot of people, and then I'll get into the meat potato guys.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: Brent Rucker.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's undervalued for a major league baseball player.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_00]: Brent Rucker is a damn good baseball player.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look at the home runs he's hit.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: People forget the students hitting 30 over 30 home runs every year.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's got 40 home run power.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: I like Brent Rucker.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_00]: Another forgotten person is Jordan Waller.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Waller was the top prospect.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna start probably centerfield for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: He made the team.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Waller was the top prospect.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: Not long ago.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jordan Mueller's in for a good season.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think he finally puts it all together.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned Noel Bay Marté.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's extremely underrated, compared for the suspension he had on steroids.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: Matt Shaw.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Matt Shaw was another guy.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna add a great spring for the cubs.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: I see him having a good season.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then Miguel Vargas, who is a forgotten guy.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: So those were kind of my offshoot people.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: If I had to go to the guys that I think are top guys, and this is Gunner Henderson, I just feel it for Gunner this year again, didn't have probably the season that he wanted to have last year.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: So his price has got hit a bit.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that Gunner Henderson is gonna come out and show that he is a superstar in this league.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I see, he's probably one of the top ones of the players there, and then my other pit, and I'm putting my own foot in my mouth here,
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm putting my foot in my mouth here and this is what how I'm putting my foot in my mouth.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody that sees Roman Anthony swing loves his swing.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's smooth, I mean, he gets everybody the glazes on as the kids would say for Roman Anthony.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to say that glaze continues because people love him and they absolutely love Roman Anthony.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I don't think, and this could be argued down the line.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's a great long-term investment.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't think that I'm looking at Roman Anthony going five years down the road and expecting that his prices are going to be dramatically higher.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they will be.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think from a standpoint of what he have a good spring, early start, we have a good season.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think he will.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that'll push his car tire.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to add Roman Anthony to that list of people I would consider to buy.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: And then the last one.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_00]: giving you all three names, so Gunner, Roman Anthony, and this is not like some sort of big announcement here, but I think again, people have slept on this guy in the past, and they continue to sleep on him at times as Junior Caminaria.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Junior Caminaria is going to pop another 40 or 50 bombs.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_00]: And when he does, he's going to submit himself in that top five to top ten conversation and baseball and he does not always trade like he should for the superstar that I think he is.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my list of three ham.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: What you got.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's so funny, man.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting that we actually are in business together.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: because if you said brother from another mother, I literally have four guys.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_03]: A Kunya, Gunner, Langford, and Caminera.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_03]: Those are not four guys.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, I could throw a Roman Anthony in there easily, because with the field and right and him being a lefty in Boston, if he gets any lift on the ball, I just think, I mean, he could hit 70 home runs there.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I think a kunga gunner layingford and caminera or guys who are off of the top beaten path that I think I mean they're not off But they're not top 10 on these lists.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sitting there looking at you know the top 100 players and these guys are outside of the top 10 and I think they make a run
- 53:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you see a really, really strong season for them that kind of submits them.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_03]: You know, guys who were on the fence this year for me, that I would be really, really careful of or mindful of.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_03]: And these are guys I feel like their price points really high or has been historically high.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: And they're going to need a lot of performance.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_03]: Is Ellie Delacruz.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_03]: Ellie is going to have to have some kind of like really strong start.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_03]: If he has another year where he's 250 with
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how many homeruns he hit last year, but, you know, 25 or whatever, I just don't feel like, you know, his price is going to be sustainable.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_03]: Even though he's still young, even though he's a freak athlete, look at our Neil Cruz, you know, look at, you know, guys like that.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I feel like he's going to have to do something this year to keep his price point where it is.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_03]: Same thing with James Wood.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_03]: I love his physique.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_03]: I love his bat.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_03]: He's got so much power.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_03]: Is he going to be able to be a consistent
- 54:07[SPEAKER_03]: You know, threat at the plate with Major League pitching is good as it's gotten.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_03]: I think James would this year is good.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to tell the tale and then another one is Jackson Cheerio, you know, those three guys to me or guys that just jump off the page.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_03]: Just like they've had historically really high prices and they're going to have to do something to kind of like really bump up not still like all three of them.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_03]: I just think that those are three guys that I'm looking at going man.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to need to come out strong.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_03]: to maintain the type of height that's been around them in the past, whereas you think, you know, the camineros, the acunus, the gunners, and the lengthers, I just feel like that there's a little bit more meat on the bone from an upside perspective.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_03]: So those are the guys that I like on the upside, and then those are guys that I'm kind of watching in that, you know, could pop off, maybe could fall back a little bit.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think, I mean, I, I, I would agree.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: This is a perfect year for all three of those.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Pete Crow Armstrong falls in that same category.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: And that had a, had a, had a great start.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: Really what those players are you just mentioned.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: They're either going to cement themselves.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's top 10, 15, 20 players in baseball, or they're not.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I really think that's what these year.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: This year is for all of those guys.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: Another interesting guy's, I'm kind of scrolling through names here, and you know, he made a good comeback last year and he had a really good spring as well is Trevor story.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor story years ago was an absolute stud coming up, you know, and he just couldn't stay healthy, you know, and he, but he had a really good year last year playing for the Red Sox.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good bi-lo guy, could tell Marta, I don't understand why could tell Marta trades like he's a middle-to-pack second baseman.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand it.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: The dude is a superstar.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean maybe put him right there at the top of all second baseman's right there in baseball.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand why he trades so cheap.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy I still like his value.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: Another guy that was
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: I've been looking to these names that got her with Kyle Stowers, and he's not extremely expensive.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Stowers could be a 35 40-home-unguy down in Miami, so I think he's an interesting name to kind of watch out for this year as well, and here's a guy that I'll throw out there that no one's talking about.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: I still like him.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: He could be a 40-home-uns shortstop.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, in a small saying he's going to strike out a ton, you might bat two 30.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm not saying that he's going to ever be a 300 hitter is Colson Montgomery and 255 at bats last year 255.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, not even half a season yet 21 bombs any at 55 RBS.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: You convert that to a full season.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's 45 to 50 home runs at 120 RBS.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: you can't tell me that people aren't going to be excited about that.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: If he can convert that power in that production a few whole seasons.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's interesting.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think another guy who's proven to be a superstar, but this is going to be a huge season for him.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: Much of the big contract is going to be Cal Tucker.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: Is this going to be I think Kyle Tucker could be one of those guys that his prices have kind of caught up a little bit to what the performance is I don't think there's I don't think there's there's no a Kyle Tucker stays where he's at he's either going higher and it's in a good bit higher submitting himself as I he's in the spotlight and he's a superstar or he's going lower and people are going to be like man Kyle Tucker just isn't what we thought he was so yeah for sure that's kind of my name and price to rank by the way.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: price to ring.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you got to see them at WBC.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's a beast.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_03]: There's there's so much talent in the league right now and in honestly man there's a lot of opportunity over the next 60 to 90 days for our listeners you just have to stick with your conviction man and you know what you roll the dice and sometimes you hit it sometimes you don't I mean that's the reality so pick five or seven guys that you really like it go out and grab a card and then and then run it up
- 57:50[SPEAKER_03]: But anyway, we've got a cut man because we're hitting our time limit here above, but you know, we could talk baseball in life for for days on end, but really appreciate you man, bringing everything you do to the show, appreciate our listeners tuning in any closing thoughts as we wrap up and get ready for the opening day of Major League Baseball.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think my closing thoughts are, I've had a lot of concern, you know, kind of privately about where the card market was heading this year, okay?
- 58:17[SPEAKER_00]: And this morning, looking back at the last year of looking at 30% growth in baseball, 30% growth in football.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_00]: And you look at that chart since your earlier ham and the chart has been this steady rise.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_00]: I do, honestly, I've changed my tune on this a little bit in the last month.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_00]: Privately, I was like, man, where's this thing going?
- 58:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think baseball's got juice in it.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_00]: I really think I don't think it's going to be some crazy,
- 58:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we're going to look at the end of the year and we're going to go, wow, we were up 50% I don't think but I do think it's going to be stable and I think you're going to and I reason I think it's going to be stable and increasing as we go that chart's going to continue to move right and up is I think that it's going to do that because you're going to have these guys that are going to perform that are going to continue to drive the market, but I do think.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a final thought you're going to have the swings of the ones going up.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_00]: But on the backside of an upmarket you do have this other group of people that are going to get smoke that keep the market pulled down.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_00]: And so that is this time of reallocation keeping your eyes open and I'm ready to see how it plays out.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, super interesting and again at the end of the day, you know, if you're in this and you're an investor and you're a, you know, a prospector and you kind of like to shake and rattle and roll and buy and sell and buy and sell, you got to be quick with it, if you're a collector and you're like just wanting to get your guys, you know, just get your guys and enjoy them, you know, keep them on the shelf and look at them.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_03]: So that's what's the beauty of the hobby.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_03]: is there so many different folks.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we had a kid reach out to us today, his mom reached out and said, hey, my son's turned in 10.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's been watching you guys on Instagram.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_03]: He loves what you're doing with cards.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_03]: His birthday's coming up.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know, what should I get him?
- 59:56[SPEAKER_03]: And I said, let me put a package together for him.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_03]: I put a little package together for him.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_03]: I send it off.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_03]: And she's like, I can't believe this is awesome or whatever.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm like, man, there's nothing greater than watching this kid, you know, open this pack for his birthday.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_03]: And it's, you know, it's nothing crazy high in, but we put some of his favorite players in there.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_03]: We put some prospects in there.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, keep an eye on these guys or whatever.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_03]: And you're building up, you know, the mean the hobby.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_00]: I love it for that reason man and just to encourage everybody that while we're all trying to make some money and hustle in the game like love the hobby have fun give back and I think it'll go for here so you get one chance to do this him final since we've done this before give the give the listeners here you put it all there in the line who is your number one best by.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, we had all this conversation about these players today.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: Give your number of, you had to put it on one guy.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna go back and replay this later in the year.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_00]: Here's your number one best bias for us and increase in card value from now to the end of the season.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_00]: MLB not prospects man.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_03]: That's tough.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_03]: I put no spot.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_03]: I would probably say, I mean, it's hard because there's a guy.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_03]: There's probably orange is trading at 500.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_03]: They'll go ballistic.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the mean, but I'm talking about like guys in the league that I think are going to have sustainable growth.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_03]: Man, my gut tells me, um, either Kevin McGonagal or Ronald Alcuni.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to stick with my guns from earlier and I'm saying it again, Luke Kieshel, Luke Kieshel.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think, and I'll go back on this one year from now, and I'll look back on this if I'm wrong and say, you know what, I missed it, but I think he's a superstar.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so much so that, like, we had our dynasty draft the other day in a fantasy baseball league, and you do it by auction.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I lost on Luke Kieshel and I wanted to cry.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the guy like spent like 50 bucks on him or something.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: I was pissed.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: Who is this guy?
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Boba, thank you, man.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_03]: Friends, listeners.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for tuning in to the SportsCard CEO.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_03]: We will be back next week to talk about opening weekend, a major league baseball and keep you guys caught up on all things in the hobby.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_03]: Peace.
