- 0:15Kearns: 5, 3 0 9.
- 0:16We were doing that today too.
- 0:18when somebody asked for that phone number, eight six seven five three oh nine,
- 0:22and John, John gave a great AlleyOOP and said, no, you gotta dial nine.
- 0:27Go out.
- 0:28That was good.
- 0:28Jon: Gotta get the outside line first.
- 0:30Kearns: Yeah.
- 0:31All right, John, what were you gonna say?
- 0:33Jon: So guys, just as we were starting, I stumbled upon an article with this
- 0:37headline, first Blood Prequel, John Rambo in the works from Sisu Director.
- 0:45Ryan: Okay.
- 0:46Jon: Yeah,
- 0:47Kearns: like everything about that.
- 0:48Jon: Guys made sisu and rare exports making a Rambo prequel.
- 0:53Kearns: Yeah, that'll work.
- 0:54Ryan: be
- 0:55Jon: God.
- 0:56Ryan: Just seeing John Rambo in Vietnam and seeing what made him John Rambo.
- 1:02I'm curious
- 1:03Kearns: You know who should play him?
- 1:04Who?
- 1:04What's the kid's name from Whiplash?
- 1:06No.
- 1:07God no.
- 1:07Please, no.
- 1:09I hope he plays everybody.
- 1:10Rambo kills actually Bill scars, guard clones through the whole movie.
- 1:13Just getting mowed down by a 50 cal. No.
- 1:16Um, the,
- 1:17Ryan: guard family.
- 1:18Kearns: anybody know that kid's name?
- 1:19He's a great actor.
- 1:20Um, whip Lat.
- 1:23Jon: I didn't
- 1:23Kearns: Got that scar.
- 1:24Jon: about.
- 1:25I can't
- 1:27Kearns: He get him on some steroids.
- 1:28Stat.
- 1:29That's the guy,
- 1:30Jon: that's not Miles Teller, right?
- 1:32Kearns: the only teller I know is the one that works at Penn. Gillette.
- 1:37That's his name.
- 1:38Wow.
- 1:38John, you were something else.
- 1:40Jon: pulled that out.
- 1:41Kearns: I mean, if anybody could do it.
- 1:44Ryan: About JK Simmons just screaming at him.
- 1:47it harder,
- 1:48Kearns: Not quite my tempo.
- 1:52Not quite my tip.
- 1:53Um, that, that sounds awesome.
- 1:56I am very down for that.
- 1:58Jon: if they let him do what he does it, it would be amazing.
- 2:04Kearns: Yeah.
- 2:05It would be outstanding.
- 2:08let's hope they let him do what he does.
- 2:09Plus they kind of, they could have done moved into this, um, place
- 2:15where, remember when he goes back to Vietnam and like saves the
- 2:20Vietnamese in that weird Rambo movie.
- 2:23I don't even know what the title of that was.
- 2:24That's the one where he's literally blowing people up.
- 2:27Jon: no, that was like the fourth one that
- 2:29Kearns: was,
- 2:29Jon: like
- 2:31Kearns: yeah, it was geriatric Stallone.
- 2:34Jon: yeah.
- 2:36Fifth one
- 2:37Kearns: I, I don't know if it's even a Vietnam, he might
- 2:39be in Africa or something.
- 2:42Jon: no, there was definitely one.
- 2:43He's in Vietnam with that, the group of, uh, like their civil
- 2:48rights workers or something like
- 2:50Kearns: it's weird.
- 2:51It's like a weird making amends.
- 2:53Jon: type of
- 2:54Kearns: Yeah.
- 2:54He's like, I just want to be a peacemaker
- 2:57and then somebody does something wrong.
- 2:59It's basically the plot of the Hulk movie where he's just like hiding,
- 3:04trying to keep his rage tamped down and doing breathing exercises
- 3:07and then somebody subs his to
- 3:1110,000 dead Vietnamese.
- 3:15Ryan: and then he eventually turns into Mark Ruffalo.
- 3:18Kearns: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:19Ryan: out.
- 3:20Kearns: And he can talk,
- 3:20Ryan: all works
- 3:21Kearns: but that's, you know, shockingly enough listeners and viewers, this
- 3:25is not an episode about Rambo.
- 3:27Ryan: No,
- 3:28Kearns: mean, that's true.
- 3:30It's true.
- 3:30We're actually here to talk about another movie and it's called 8 2 5 Forest Road.
- 3:38Ryan: it isn't a forest.
- 3:40Kearns: It is in a forest.
- 3:42I keep getting the title wrong.
- 3:44Did I get it right?
- 3:45Ryan: No,
- 3:45Kearns: I've only watched it twice.
- 3:46Yeah,
- 3:47Jon: Road.
- 3:48Kearns: because I keep saying Forest Lane because of stupid Cloverfield Lane.
- 3:53Ryan: No, John Goodman.
- 3:54No.
- 3:54John Goodman.
- 3:55Kearns: What a good sleeper this movie was.
- 3:57It wasn't too hard for me to watch this one.
- 3:59I like telling the listeners how I like get it for free ish.
- 4:03I had to get a trial for a c plus through Amazon Prime, which took
- 4:08me a grand total of 45 seconds.
- 4:09It sounds harder than it was.
- 4:11And then I watched the movie, then I canceled the trial, and then I
- 4:15wanted to watch the movie again.
- 4:18So I did something else.
- 4:19I watched parts of it again.
- 4:22Um, but man, what a gem.
- 4:26What a great movie.
- 4:27Jon: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:29Ryan: 2025.
- 4:31Jon: Yeah.
- 4:31It's, this is the newest movie we've talked about
- 4:35Kearns: Besides no Ferrata 2024.
- 4:38Jon: but we didn't really do Nosferatu
- 4:42Kearns: That's true.
- 4:43That's that's true.
- 4:44Good point.
- 4:45Jon: around 2024.
- 4:48Kearns: Fair point, sir. Fair point.
- 4:50Ryan: year
- 4:51Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:53Scars guards porn, but now he's back into the episode.
- 4:58Everybody, we can't shake scars guard.
- 5:01Um, but yeah.
- 5:03Ryan: Eventually.
- 5:04Kearns: Oh God, please, no, with all the shit talking I do.
- 5:08Bill.
- 5:09You're great.
- 5:09You are.
- 5:10Your brother sucks as
- 5:12Jon: A chance we will ever get a scars guard on here with the way
- 5:17we've talked about scars, guards.
- 5:19Ryan: Let's,
- 5:19Kearns: true.
- 5:20Ryan: make this a challenge in like
- 5:22Kearns: It's true.
- 5:23Ryan: years.
- 5:24Kearns: They're like the Baldwin brothers of our podcast,
- 5:27Jon: why wait 20 years?
- 5:28Let's just start sending them emails.
- 5:30Now
- 5:32Kearns: Yeah.
- 5:32I mean,
- 5:32Ryan: was hoping,
- 5:33Kearns: why not?
- 5:33We might as well get put on a watch list.
- 5:35Jon: we will
- 5:35Kearns: We've,
- 5:36Jon: with the least known,
- 5:38Kearns: yeah,
- 5:38Jon: We'll start with the least known scars, guard and work our
- 5:41way up into to Bill or Stel.
- 5:43I don't even know who's more known now.
- 5:45Kearns: probably bill Bill's.
- 5:47Bill's pretty big.
- 5:49I don't know.
- 5:49Ryan: less
- 5:50Kearns: He's not the most muscly.
- 5:52Ah, I mean, there's some good scars, guard performances.
- 5:56They're just so easy to make fun of.
- 5:58'cause there's also such bad ones.
- 6:01Jon: And there's so many of them.
- 6:03Kearns: Yeah.
- 6:03Fair.
- 6:04They're like freaking cock.
- 6:05They're like rabbits.
- 6:07I had a Lipes episode.
- 6:08Check it out.
- 6:09Check it out.
- 6:10Listeners, this is a great rabbits.
- 6:12Have lots of sex.
- 6:13Jon: guard.
- 6:14Kearns: Oh God.
- 6:15Jumping over the tracks, getting electrocuted.
- 6:17Steam would be fun.
- 6:19But now a 2 54 is lanes.
- 6:21Nothing like any of those things we talked about.
- 6:23Literally nothing.
- 6:24There's no, I don't believe a single firearm is, is,
- 6:26uh, even shown in the film.
- 6:28it's fantastic.
- 6:30takes place.
- 6:31Small town horror kind of thing.
- 6:33Oh, we bought this house, it's got great bones, that kind of thing.
- 6:39And, um, immediate haunting vibes come into play.
- 6:42Right guys?
- 6:44Ryan: It starts right off the beginning.
- 6:46the opening scene really stopped when it's, uh, Ashley and Natalie and
- 6:50they're talking via like how we do it.
- 6:52We're talking over the computer and I
- 6:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 6:55Ryan: it's Ashley.
- 6:57And she starts hearing the noises in her house,
- 7:00Jon: Yep.
- 7:00Ryan: you're like, all right, as a viewer, horror viewer, like, all right,
- 7:03this is where it's gonna be like, okay.
- 7:05And then you see, um, the character, I'm forgetting her
- 7:09name, the main villain in the
- 7:12Jon: Helen.
- 7:13Ryan: Helen, now
- 7:14Jon: Yeah.
- 7:15Helen Buster.
- 7:17Kearns: It's not Karen.
- 7:19Ryan: Not Karen.
- 7:21Um, but seeing her in the corner and then just going from there and the door
- 7:25slamming open, you're in for a ride
- 7:29Jon: Yep.
- 7:29Ryan: it's, it's fun.
- 7:32Jon: that's a scene that like doesn't really exist six
- 7:36years ago, like pre pandemic.
- 7:38I. the video call scenes in anything are like almost non-existent because
- 7:44it was sort of a niche thing.
- 7:45Now everyone does it
- 7:48Kearns: Fair.
- 7:49Ryan: It
- 7:50Jon: and it's sort of, yeah.
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:52And, um, host that purely Zoom based one.
- 7:59and it, it really is sort of in the director's wheelhouse.
- 8:04So, Stephen Cognetti directed a two five Forest Road and before this
- 8:09he had only made found footage.
- 8:11Kearns: Right?
- 8:12Ryan: Yep.
- 8:13Jon: He's, he's responsible for the hell house LLC franchise, which
- 8:18Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 8:18Jon: there's a new one of those coming this summer.
- 8:21Kearns: I watched some clips.
- 8:22I don't know if it's from the new one that's about to come
- 8:24out or if it's from three.
- 8:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:27Kearns: Ooh, I've never seen any of those.
- 8:28That's some scary shit.
- 8:30Ryan: It's brutal.
- 8:31Jon: He does a good job with those.
- 8:32Yeah.
- 8:32Kearns: Yeah, she was downstairs with some clowns and I don't know
- 8:36why she was kissing 'em and stuff, but she was, and they turned their
- 8:39heads and she was not a fan of that.
- 8:41No, no, no.
- 8:42Jon: kiss clowns.
- 8:43Kearns: Don't kiss the, the clown dummies.
- 8:45Ryan: no,
- 8:46Kearns: Mm, no, no.
- 8:48you can see kinda the way some of the camera angles are cut
- 8:51in a two five forest road.
- 8:53I almost said lane again.
- 8:54And, it lends itself to the found footage style a bit.
- 8:57It almost feels like parts of this movie are found footage.
- 9:01Not necessarily a bad thing, by the way.
- 9:04Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 9:05Kearns: but it is a more angular kind of feel too.
- 9:07I mean, Ryan's the film guy too, so maybe you can speak to
- 9:11that, but it's, it's not bad.
- 9:13Ryan: He stayed in his wheelhouse.
- 9:14And that's the thing is like when directors are trying something
- 9:17new, feel like you have to stick with what you are used to.
- 9:23So utilizing the found footage with linear footage worked out very well
- 9:27because those cuts work with Helen's like movement or like her, I guess,
- 9:33presence throughout the town because those fast cuts really show like there's,
- 9:38she's everywhere and you don't know where she is, you know where she's gonna
- 9:41come and that she can pop out anywhere.
- 9:44And I, you know, I was thinking about it and I was, I mentioned
- 9:47this earlier, um, ghost story.
- 9:50The movie from the eighties.
- 9:52It's, similar vibe and stuff, but I feel like if they use that like
- 9:56camera angles for ghost story, like for a modern retelling, let's
- 9:59say, or a remake, it would do so, so many wonders for the story,
- 10:03Kearns: Is that Peter ubs ghost story?
- 10:05Ryan: Yes, sir.
- 10:07Kearns: Um.
- 10:07Ryan: the movie.
- 10:08The movie though,
- 10:09Kearns: Mm. Still excite excites, Martin, that's good stuff.
- 10:15Love Shroud.
- 10:16Love me some ghost story.
- 10:17Um, I just lent out Floating Dragon to a colleague who read
- 10:22it and was very impressed by it.
- 10:24I was like, yes, i's good one to talk.
- 10:28Ryan: I was reading that actually, uh, on the desk.
- 10:30I was looking
- 10:31Kearns: Oh, nice.
- 10:31Oh, it's one of his best.
- 10:33Ryan: is this?
- 10:33Kearns: probably second to Ghost Story and then I won't count the
- 10:38Talisman or Black House 'cause that's a collab with him and King.
- 10:41Ryan: Okay.
- 10:41Kearns: But Raub, if you guys have not read any Raub, get off
- 10:44of your asses and read some Raub.
- 10:46Get finish the YouTube video.
- 10:48Watch that to completion.
- 10:49Maybe watch another one of ours too, like, and subscribe and then read some Raub.
- 10:54'cause he's phenomenal.
- 10:55He's the best horror writer that not nearly enough people read.
- 10:59Ryan: it's true.
- 10:59Kearns: For sure.
- 11:00I'll get off my high horse though.
- 11:01We are gonna talk about more books in a little bit and a
- 11:04lesser writer, to Shraub anyway.
- 11:07But yeah,
- 11:09Ryan: S speak
- 11:10Kearns: good stuff.
- 11:11Ryan: Um, I wanna ask your opinion on this, 'cause I like it when
- 11:14they do this in movies, especially when they did this in Dr. Sleep.
- 11:17How'd you guys feel about like the chapters for each
- 11:19scene or for each character?
- 11:21Kearns: It worked in this movie quite well and there's reasons for
- 11:25that that aren't like book related.
- 11:27John, what's your take?
- 11:29Jon: Yeah.
- 11:29It's not something I usually like, but I did think it worked for this
- 11:34because it give really, gives you a good insight into the experiences of
- 11:40the three main characters you wouldn't get otherwise you're not gonna be able
- 11:46to fill in three stories at the same time that way and three experiences.
- 11:52Ryan: I like it.
- 11:52Kearns: That's kind of my take as well.
- 11:54I like the overlap so much is like perspective taking in this
- 11:59movie is what makes me love it.
- 12:01Um, I only liked it until the chapter two.
- 12:05I. Came and then you were like, oh, neat.
- 12:09Okay.
- 12:09We're seeing the same scene from her perspective now and then getting
- 12:13to kind of see what she thinks about what this dude just said.
- 12:16I really liked that.
- 12:17I liked it a lot.
- 12:18The um, and the movie itself guys takes place in a small town that is afflicted
- 12:23by a witch of sorts, Helen, I suppose.
- 12:28Um, and they've done a very good job and they could have done more of this,
- 12:34more with this in the movie, I believe.
- 12:36But they've done a very good job of covering it up and not allowing people
- 12:39to really know about this curse,
- 12:42Ryan: Well, what was that group?
- 12:43Gardeners?
- 12:44Kearns: like a hardening club, uh, friends of.
- 12:48Ryan: Friends of gardening?
- 12:50Kearns: They're like the resistance, they get together and talk about the
- 12:53witch, the Friends of Gardening club.
- 12:55But, essentially there's, it's been a long period of quiet.
- 12:59The witch hasn't done much.
- 13:00Helen has kind of been around, people see her, but they don't, she hasn't
- 13:06been up to no good, so to speak.
- 13:08And it's been a minute and they haven't put two and two together,
- 13:11which I find silly, but I don't wanna give too much away.
- 13:14Jon: mean she seems to start getting more active as people her.
- 13:21Kearns: Yeah.
- 13:21And it
- 13:22Jon: what happens at the beginning with Ashley.
- 13:25Ryan: Mm-hmm.
- 13:25Jon: She and Natalie are trying to figure out where 8 2 5 Forest Road
- 13:29really is because remapped the whole town at one point and none of the
- 13:35roads are the same as they were,
- 13:38Kearns: awfully convenient.
- 13:39Jon: very significant plot point.
- 13:42Kearns: Yes.
- 13:43Yes it does.
- 13:44Jon: And it honestly, this is probably the time to say it.
- 13:48If you haven't watched a Two Five Forest Road yet, pause us.
- 13:52Go
- 13:53Kearns: Yeah,
- 13:53Jon: Come back because we're gonna spoil the crap outta this movie
- 13:57Kearns: we're gonna say everything, right.
- 13:59So at from this point on, it's sort of spoiler heavy.
- 14:0215 minutes in, give or take.
- 14:04So yeah, go watch the movie.
- 14:06Go watch the movie.
- 14:07See you, see you later.
- 14:09Ryan: an hour and a half.
- 14:10Come on.
- 14:10Just do
- 14:11Kearns: It is a quick watch.
- 14:12Jon: just to circle back to the chapters for a second, I think the other thing
- 14:17it really helps establish is how these three characters live together.
- 14:22They're related, but they are those separate in this whole thing.
- 14:28Ryan: Oh
- 14:28Jon: It's really not until like the last 10 minutes of the movie that any
- 14:33of these three really work together to solve mystery and try to put a stop to it.
- 14:41Like up until that point, they're just operating on their own.
- 14:44Ryan: You, you see that in Chuck.
- 14:46Um, he's distant and like
- 14:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:49Ryan: on his own journey.
- 14:50And then, um, his sister Isabel, he kind of starts going on her
- 14:55own journey and that kind of
- 14:57Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:58Ryan: they're also distant because of their mom.
- 15:00And, you know, Chuck leaving the family and she feels like I was with
- 15:05Mom and the death is her fault and
- 15:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 15:09Ryan: of like family drama and trauma going on.
- 15:13And, uh, his wife, oh God, was his wife's
- 15:17Jon: I,
- 15:18Ryan: Maria.
- 15:19Maria.
- 15:20Maria.
- 15:21Um, got her own issues too, and she's trying to be all good, but
- 15:25she's, she's bipolar and she's
- 15:28Jon: mm-hmm.
- 15:28Ryan: through that and all this is going on and it's like they're
- 15:33getting pulled at the strengths.
- 15:36it's like just that cat Helen's that cat just like pulling up
- 15:40the strings and tearing at it
- 15:42Kearns: That old trope.
- 15:43Ryan: apart.
- 15:45Kearns: Yeah, it's the old trope where the family that's already fractured is easy
- 15:49to exploit by whatever demon or entity.
- 15:52There was some, there was like this crazy stupid movie years ago, I
- 15:55think it was on Discovery Channel.
- 15:57It was a haunting style movie, and I remember every time the family argued
- 16:00like the demon got stronger, stupid.
- 16:03But it, it makes sense.
- 16:05And in this they just, they are fractured.
- 16:06They, uh, Maria is just focused on like, everybody needs to get settled
- 16:11and have a good, healthy time in life.
- 16:13She's really focused on the sister
- 16:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 16:15Kearns: and dad, like you said, is totally aloof the entire time.
- 16:18He is like, how are you taking your medicine?
- 16:20And then he goes out and does dad things and yeah, it's just, it, they're all very,
- 16:26very much so walking their own paths.
- 16:30Jon: So the, I mean, for them, the first experience that would, that
- 16:34they have, that something's not quite right with Martha, the mannequin
- 16:40Ryan: Yes.
- 16:42Kearns: Martha's a little guys.
- 16:44Jon: Mar Martha.
- 16:45The mannequin is creepy as hell without being possessed.
- 16:50Kearns: So that was where I was gonna get to.
- 16:51Um, I would burn that thing before I would ever allow it in my house
- 16:57Ryan: yeah.
- 16:57Jon: Oh yeah,
- 16:59Kearns: because it's not even just a form that somebody would use to make a dress.
- 17:03A normal person would use a form to make a dress, which is scary enough.
- 17:06A silhouette in the dark of a busty woman.
- 17:11No.
- 17:12Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 17:13Kearns: hands creepy.
- 17:14Long fingers.
- 17:16No.
- 17:17Jon: Yeah.
- 17:18Ryan: just,
- 17:18Jon: whole, everything about that mannequin is creepy.
- 17:22Kearns: Yep.
- 17:22Ryan: she looked,
- 17:23Kearns: Not a.
- 17:23Ryan: looked like a, she looked like sloppy.
- 17:26The dummy.
- 17:26I was having Goosebumps.
- 17:27PTSD.
- 17:28Like
- 17:29Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 17:29Ryan: oh, Slappy.
- 17:30That's great.
- 17:32Why would you want this in here?
- 17:33Jon: Yeah.
- 17:34so they wake, they wake up one morning and Chuck finds the
- 17:38mannequin outside the house.
- 17:41Kearns: Which is normal.
- 17:41It's fine.
- 17:42Everything's fine.
- 17:43Jon: it completely gets out there on its own.
- 17:45I mean, and, and you know, there, uh, Maria and Chuck's immediate thought
- 17:51is that it's Isabel playing a prank.
- 17:54Kearns: hmm.
- 17:55Jon: And
- 17:55Kearns: You get,
- 17:56Jon: the first time we meet a neighbor in the know.
- 17:58No,
- 17:58Kearns: I was gonna say, you get an M Knight shaalan style neighbor
- 18:02meeting there where it's like, hi, my name is Exposition Dump.
- 18:06And they do that.
- 18:07Um,
- 18:08Jon: it's Larry.
- 18:09Kearns: it's Larry, Larry, the exposition dump.
- 18:12And it is exactly, he's like, hi, there's a, there's a bit of witch.
- 18:15That's a, or he doesn't even say witch directly, but he is like,
- 18:17oh yeah, she's getting active.
- 18:19Does anybody in the house have mental illness?
- 18:20And they just like, hi, I just moved in.
- 18:23Ryan: think plainly.
- 18:23Jon: it's the first, the first big misdirection in the movie is,
- 18:29Kearns: true too.
- 18:30Jon: is Isabel depressed, be very, she's.
- 18:33Depressed people are very prone to fall under Helen Foster and like, so you
- 18:38spend that time focused on something's gonna happen to Isabelle before you
- 18:44get to the fact that Maria's bipolar
- 18:47Ryan: it's.
- 18:49Kearns: And then when you do, when you do figure out that, when they focus
- 18:52a little bit on Maria being bipolar later on though, you hyper focus
- 18:56'cause you know what they're doing.
- 18:58Yeah, I get it.
- 19:00We're going that way.
- 19:02Jon: yeah.
- 19:02But you know, LA Larry gives the full, ex ex, well not the full exposition, but
- 19:08Kearns: Pretty close.
- 19:09Jon: yeah.
- 19:10Hey, Chuck, come to our friends of gardening meeting.
- 19:14Kearns: Friends of guard.
- 19:15So it's an AA meeting in the town hall.
- 19:18but for friends of gardening, for for PTSD members who've dealt with Helen before.
- 19:25Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 19:26Kearns: and she makes a visit to the second meeting, or is it the first one?
- 19:32Jon: It is the first meeting that Chuck attends.
- 19:34Kearns: Yeah.
- 19:35And she's, she shows up the witch.
- 19:37Helen is like in the background and they all bounce.
- 19:39They're all like, all right, later they all run away.
- 19:42Ryan: well,
- 19:43Kearns: Uh,
- 19:43Ryan: her.
- 19:45Larry sees
- 19:45Kearns: and we find out the librarian.
- 19:48The librarian is there as well.
- 19:50And then, then we find out a little bit more information about the books issue.
- 19:53'cause
- 19:54Jon: Yeah.
- 19:54Kearns: go and investigate her in the library, there's a stack of
- 19:57books that are sitting there and they, somebody mentions them and they
- 20:01go, oh, I'll, I'll take care of it.
- 20:03And they kind of make it into a thing like that.
- 20:04It occurs all the time.
- 20:05So it's interesting.
- 20:06Little, little, little Easter, not Easter eggs, but, uh, breadcrumbs that
- 20:11they're leading us along this path.
- 20:13Jon: It's
- 20:13Kearns: you wanna be led?
- 20:15Jon: the library is the first time Chuck really gets a sense that
- 20:18there's something weird in the town when he runs into a dead Ashley.
- 20:24Not knowing that she's dead at that point.
- 20:26That comes out a little later.
- 20:28Kearns: Yeah.
- 20:29Ryan: Yeah, that was
- 20:30Kearns: So
- 20:31Ryan: It, uh,
- 20:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 20:32Ryan: it and, and it kind of showed
- 20:33Kearns: I.
- 20:34Ryan: how dangerous this entity can be, because like, even though she
- 20:38was out of it, quote unquote, by just investigating into it, she gives the
- 20:43warning she's like, you're gonna be sorry.
- 20:46And
- 20:46Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 20:47Ryan: I think it's like a day or two days later, they're like, ISAB.
- 20:50Um, Isabella's friend comes over and he's like, you know, she hung
- 20:54herself and it's like, You know?
- 20:58Jon: Yeah.
- 20:58Ryan: it's like, just shows how dangerous Helen is and how like,
- 21:03she's like, she goes into your mind.
- 21:05It's, it's a cool concept.
- 21:07And the thing is, is that I was, uh.
- 21:09Reading something about repeating like concepts and just changing it up for
- 21:14this generation, and he did a great job doing that, especially for this movie.
- 21:19Kearns: Yeah.
- 21:20Uh, I wish this movie was two hours and 15 minutes long for more
- 21:24flushing out, giving characters time to grow into themselves a bit.
- 21:28letting some of the stuff marinate that's happening with
- 21:31the town would've been nice.
- 21:32Even some slow breaks where you get a second chance to breathe
- 21:35while there go transitioning between ideas would've felt good.
- 21:38But I get why it's not that that's not the case and for what it is.
- 21:43And the hour and a half runtime, the movie is really good.
- 21:47I can't take much away.
- 21:48I, I wasn't in love with the ending, but I didn't hate it either.
- 21:50So there's that.
- 21:52But we're, that transitions us to another side topic I would like to talk about,
- 21:56if it's a good time to break for it.
- 21:59Can we talk about hex?
- 22:01Ryan: Yeah, of
- 22:01Jon: Sure.
- 22:02Ryan: I,
- 22:02Kearns: So Hex is, you're waiting for this.
- 22:05Hex is a book by a Dutch guy.
- 22:08I don't even have a clue how to pronounce his last name, Thomas Old
- 22:11Vet, uh, but was rewritten in the.
- 22:16Seems right, it's not too bad,
- 22:17Ryan: That's.
- 22:18Kearns: to take place also in the United States.
- 22:21And the hex in that I read is almost identical storyline to this.
- 22:28It starts though, with the family waking up for their day, but the
- 22:30witch is just standing in the living room and they're going about their
- 22:34day with the witch standing there.
- 22:35Somebody throws a sheet over her and they're just, you know,
- 22:38careful not to touch or push her over or anything like that.
- 22:41And they just do their thing and they leave her alone and
- 22:44they report that she's there.
- 22:45And that's how you've learned that this town has a witch curse.
- 22:50And we find out later on, there's all this other stuff that goes on
- 22:55and why the curse is there in the first place, and yada yada, Reid Hex.
- 22:58And you'll find all that out.
- 22:59It's a really good read, but it's got a shit ending.
- 23:02And it's such a good story too.
- 23:05If it had a better ending, it would be so good.
- 23:08But yeah, it reminds me of this movie for that reason.
- 23:11It's almost identical storylines.
- 23:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 23:14Yeah.
- 23:15Yeah,
- 23:17it did.
- 23:18Sounds like
- 23:21Kearns: Yeah, it does.
- 23:22Jon: it's on the shelf.
- 23:24I, I haven't gotten to it yet, but it's there.
- 23:26Kearns: Oh, really
- 23:27Jon: I,
- 23:28Kearns: nice.
- 23:28Jon: bought it a while ago.
- 23:30Kearns: I didn't know that.
- 23:30Jon: down there.
- 23:31I
- 23:32Kearns: Cool.
- 23:32You'll enjoy the read.
- 23:34Jon: I, little, little fact, I buy way more books than I can ever read.
- 23:42Ryan: Yep.
- 23:42Same, same.
- 23:45Kearns: Yeah,
- 23:47Ryan: I'm still reading
- 23:47Kearns: I've read all these ones behind me, but I have been slowing
- 23:51down significantly over the years.
- 23:53I think I'm down to like four or five a year now.
- 23:58Jon: It's sad, isn't it?
- 23:59Ryan: to that level.
- 24:00Kearns: there's not enough time to do everything.
- 24:01Plus I got the little kids that eats up a lot of my re If I could come home
- 24:05from work, take a nap, wake up and be like, I crushed 50 pages, I can do that.
- 24:10Then play video games and still get to bed before midnight.
- 24:13That'd be nice.
- 24:15Jon: Right.
- 24:16Kearns: But I digress.
- 24:18But Hex was good and hex carries.
- 24:21It's like it brings you along in the beginning.
- 24:23You won't wanna put it down.
- 24:25It, it's intriguing.
- 24:26Oh, the realtor can't let this couple move in because we don't think they'll take it.
- 24:30Oh.
- 24:31Also, by the way, once you move in, you can't leave.
- 24:34'cause that's part of the curse.
- 24:36Hex is good.
- 24:37It is good until it's not so good.
- 24:39And you guys might like the ending, by the way.
- 24:41There are people out there that like the ending.
- 24:43I've been down the Reddit rabbit holes.
- 24:45Um, I did not,
- 24:47Jon: I, I sort of get the feeling from 8 2 5 Forest Road that you
- 24:53can't leave the town either.
- 24:55Kearns: yeah.
- 24:56I mean, it's never explicitly said.
- 24:58Yeah.
- 24:59Jon: but it's sort of the impression like, if you can leave, why are
- 25:03none of these people ever leaving?
- 25:05Like why is Larry staying in Ashland Park
- 25:09Ryan: Larry.
- 25:10Jon: knowing this?
- 25:11Like, why are you still there?
- 25:13Larry?
- 25:15Kearns: Larry loves the drama.
- 25:17Just same reason everybody's around.
- 25:18They love the drama.
- 25:20Jon: Yeah.
- 25:21Ryan: of Garden just wants friends.
- 25:25Kearns: Oh, I guess we'll go back into the movie.
- 25:30Jon: yeah, so, so first chapter really is it's, it's Chuck's chapter, and
- 25:37Kearns: Um.
- 25:37Jon: you really, Chuck is the most independent operating
- 25:42of the three of them.
- 25:43He's doing all this looking into going to friends of gardening meetings,
- 25:48reading books, but he's not really sharing much of the danger that,
- 25:55that he's discovering, that they've stumbled into, he's, he's giving Maria
- 25:59Little facts about the town, like they remapped it and renamed all the streets.
- 26:04Isn't that interesting?
- 26:05But he's not telling her that, Hey, there's this, this curse
- 26:09that we're pretty susceptible to.
- 26:12Ryan: It is true.
- 26:12Kearns: He,
- 26:13Ryan: like
- 26:13Kearns: fact that he doesn't disclose that or work collaborate with his
- 26:17family at all is annoying as hell.
- 26:20Ryan: Yep.
- 26:21Kearns: we've, we kind of did discuss this well before talking about this podcast
- 26:25episode about his character sucking
- 26:27Ryan: Yeah.
- 26:28Kearns: way.
- 26:30Jon: But watching it a second time, I don't think it's that he's a bad person.
- 26:35I think there is an illness within him as well there.
- 26:39Like his brain doesn't function right either.
- 26:42You know, he seems like he purposely isolates himself.
- 26:46He seems like he's very analytically focused on a lot of this stuff.
- 26:51Like when they're finally accepting that they're gonna have to move, he's like.
- 26:57We're gonna have a real hard time selling this place like that should, should not be
- 27:02your prime concern at that point when your wife was just attacked by her mannequin.
- 27:09Kearns: Yeah,
- 27:10Ryan: livestream
- 27:12Jon: Yeah,
- 27:12Kearns: the best part.
- 27:13And then he's, he doesn't, I don't think he believes her.
- 27:15Right.
- 27:16And she's like, she has to cite that people, she's like,
- 27:195 million viewers saw it.
- 27:21Ryan: and
- 27:21Jon: I think, yeah, I think he's like, I don't know that he doesn't believe her
- 27:30so much as he doesn't wanna believe her.
- 27:32Kearns: Hmm.
- 27:33I think that might be it.
- 27:34That's a good point.
- 27:35Jon: Like, you know, they, so there's the, the scene in the art gallery
- 27:41where, Maria's with Isabelle and she's talking, Maria's talking about
- 27:46her, one of her bipolar episodes how.
- 27:52She kind of says Chuck did okay, but he didn't really understand.
- 27:57He wasn't as good as he could have been because he didn't
- 28:00understand, like you sort of, Chuck doesn't process those things.
- 28:08Kearns: Okay.
- 28:08I gotcha.
- 28:10I gotcha.
- 28:11So he's, that's his deal, um, which makes him.
- 28:15Blind to sort of Helen's nefarious ways until it's too late.
- 28:21Uh, one of the things I enjoy about, not him, but um, enjoy about the, the, like
- 28:27we talked about the chapter stuff earlier, is how they end Isabelle's chapter and
- 28:32begin Maria's at that cliffhanger point.
- 28:35By the way, when I was just thinking of that scene, I didn't
- 28:39wanna lose it 'cause I'm exhausted.
- 28:40So that cliffhanger scene where Helen comes and presumably is murdering Maria,
- 28:46that's where Isabelle's chapter ends.
- 28:48And then Maria's chapter starts there and only flashes back a little bit.
- 28:51I think it flashes back to the art gallery, if I'm not mistaken.
- 28:54I may be mistaken, but, um, and then it starts from there and it tracks right
- 28:58back up to that scene pretty quickly.
- 29:01Ryan: Oh.
- 29:01Kearns: I like that they did that.
- 29:03Ryan: I was gonna say, I'm
- 29:03Kearns: I.
- 29:04Ryan: It doesn't start at the art gallery.
- 29:05It starts where she notices the occurrences, like the
- 29:08dish is stacked, asking her
- 29:10Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 29:11Ryan: away.
- 29:12And she is blaming Isabel for this and like she just thinks it's weird and
- 29:17Kearns: Right.
- 29:17Ryan: she goes along with it and then goes into the art gallery.
- 29:21But to retract the cliffhanger was excellent.
- 29:24'cause it's like, you know, you don't know where it's gonna go.
- 29:27Like, you know, it's gonna go back to Maria, but then you're
- 29:29like, this poor woman's gonna die.
- 29:32You're thinking in your head
- 29:34Kearns: Yeah.
- 29:34Ryan: like, well we're gonna get to this scene soon.
- 29:37And it's like, isn't go down that way, which is It's horrific though, that
- 29:44Kearns: Helen's,
- 29:45Ryan: good.
- 29:45CGI
- 29:47Kearns: I, yeah, that was okay.
- 29:49Helen's, uh, reveal was scarier than I thought it was going to be.
- 29:53Um, and just the, I mean, the kitchen scenes where she's manically calling
- 29:57to Isabelle and the kitchen, and she basically bitches out Maria.
- 30:01And then Maria does, she hides from her until it's too late.
- 30:05Yeah.
- 30:05That's pretty cool.
- 30:07Jon: she's mimicking Isabelle's dead mother in the kitchen
- 30:11Kearns: Yeah, which is neat.
- 30:13Jon: Isabel in while, uh, frantic and disturbed.
- 30:17Maria is trying to stop her.
- 30:20Kearns: It's pretty good.
- 30:21And you can tell like the lack of taking the meds is
- 30:23affecting Maria in that time too.
- 30:26Then once the action scene starts and the chase scene goes on and Isabel
- 30:30gets away, Maria gets possessed by Helen, which is pretty awesome.
- 30:36Jon: like, why are you running upstairs?
- 30:39Kearns: Fair point.
- 30:40Well, they couldn't open the door
- 30:42Ryan: Nope.
- 30:42It was locked
- 30:43Kearns: they didn't, instead of leaping out of a window
- 30:45like a normal person might,
- 30:47Ryan: like
- 30:47Kearns: you know,
- 30:48Ryan: Arnold
- 30:49Jon: I am going through the window.
- 30:51I'm going through the window.
- 30:52I'm not going upstairs.
- 30:54Kearns: I would rather, yeah, I'd rather slice myself open on
- 30:56the window glass and bleed out in the lawn than go up those stairs.
- 30:59Yep.
- 31:02Accurate.
- 31:03So.
- 31:04Ryan: a ho, pull a Halloween, go out from the roof, dingle from
- 31:08like, you know, the rail go down.
- 31:12It's all right.
- 31:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:14Kearns: Maria gets crapped upstairs in the worst place you can be in
- 31:19a horror movie between the wall and the bed and the monster,
- 31:23Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 31:24Kearns: which is
- 31:25Ryan: not a
- 31:25Kearns: terrifying New Na na na.
- 31:29Jon: I mean.
- 31:31Chuck, and to a lesser extent, Isabelle have really set Maria up
- 31:36because like she's with the bipolar.
- 31:38She's probably the most susceptible to Helen
- 31:42Kearns: Yeah.
- 31:42Jon: and knows the least about any, like they don't tell her anything.
- 31:48Kearns: It's complete.
- 31:49They're, it's a tri pole thing.
- 31:50They're like literally the triangle of ignorance and nobody trusts anybody.
- 31:55Nobody cares to, they, they're kind of working against each other,
- 31:58the whole movie until the very end where Chuck and Isabel sort of get
- 32:02together and then that goes great.
- 32:05'cause they're so used to teamwork, I guess.
- 32:07But Maria, so Maria gets stupid scene.
- 32:11This is a dumb scene.
- 32:13Maria gets possessed and then they're doing their realtor review video with the
- 32:19Jon: I love that scene.
- 32:20I,
- 32:21Kearns: It's so dumb.
- 32:22Jon: I love watching how that part of the end falls apart,
- 32:27Kearns: Yeah.
- 32:28Jon: And you, I mean, listen, you know she's possessed already.
- 32:31You don't maybe know quite how bad she off she is or what she is, but
- 32:37the moment she sits to do that, that testimonial, what's your name?
- 32:43Maria.
- 32:44What's your last name?
- 32:46And she doesn't know her last name anymore.
- 32:49Kearns: That was pretty cool.
- 32:51I like that.
- 32:52I like also how the boyfriend of Isabelle or friend of Isabelle has to stay
- 32:58in the house to look after possessed Maria while she's doing this stupid.
- 33:03Jon: Right?
- 33:03Kearns: those tons of bitches were, I opened the door to go and deal
- 33:06with this, and those bastards were at the door with a camera saying,
- 33:10it's time to help out your realtor.
- 33:12I'd be like, fuck off.
- 33:14I don't know.
- 33:14When I agreed to this, I was high.
- 33:16I'm not doing this.
- 33:18Ryan: Can we reschedule?
- 33:19Jon: I And,
- 33:20Kearns: No,
- 33:21Jon: and I
- 33:21Kearns: we're not Resch.
- 33:22Jon: is the, she's the second biggest villain in this whole movie.
- 33:26Kearns: She is.
- 33:26'cause she sold them the goddamn house and she knew that the
- 33:29guy threw himself off the roof.
- 33:31Ryan: Yep.
- 33:31Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 33:32that, and that, like, that has to be the least amount of
- 33:36knowledge she had about this.
- 33:37Right.
- 33:37Because I mean,
- 33:39Kearns: Yeah.
- 33:40Jon: from Ashland Park, she has to know some of the Helen Foster story.
- 33:45Ryan: Oh,
- 33:45Kearns: Yeah.
- 33:46Ryan: secondary antagonist.
- 33:47So she got what she deserved.
- 33:49I think
- 33:50Kearns: And she, so yeah.
- 33:52And she profited greatly off of the home.
- 33:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 33:56Kearns: Got great bones
- 33:57Jon: like Maria doing that testimonial, and then like, as she's going along,
- 34:03you realize she's really possessed.
- 34:04She doesn't know who she is anymore.
- 34:06And then she just, instead of a testimonial, she slips into Helen's story.
- 34:11Ryan: Yep.
- 34:12And that was good.
- 34:13Jon: my daughter was bullied at school and nobody did anything about it.
- 34:18And I went as far as going to the town council and they didn't help me.
- 34:22I.
- 34:23Kearns: And they show that painting of her sitting alone with the town council.
- 34:27I like that.
- 34:28That was a pretty cool part.
- 34:30This movie's good.
- 34:31I, I keep, I keep circling back to it, but the reason why I have to keep circling
- 34:35back to it is because it's wearing like a tube top and it should be in a prom dress.
- 34:40Like this movie could be so much better,
- 34:43Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:43Kearns: you know, but it's just very,
- 34:47Jon: I'm very curious about a, uh, what the physical release brings and
- 34:51what kind of deleted scenes are there.
- 34:54Kearns: that'd be cool if it's longer.
- 34:55Jon: curious to see if that, if there's stuff that adds even more for me, the
- 35:01end works, but the Chuck and Isabel ending is kind of less satisfying.
- 35:08Maria's That, that part of the final chapter of the movie is fantastic.
- 35:15Ryan: Yes.
- 35:15Kearns: Yeah.
- 35:16Jon: Chuck and Isabel part that feels rushed.
- 35:19Ryan: Yep.
- 35:21Because you feel
- 35:21Kearns: Dumb.
- 35:22Ryan: more.
- 35:23Kearns: Just gotta say it dumb.
- 35:24Oh, that picture you drew of the hands pulling you into the black void.
- 35:30Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:32Kearns: It came true.
- 35:34And she's like, I'm
- 35:34Jon: some,
- 35:35Kearns: sorry.
- 35:36Jon: there's some good stuff that comes there.
- 35:38Like the, the realization that, oh, we don't need to be
- 35:42looking for 8 2 5 Forest Road.
- 35:44that's not Helen's house.
- 35:46That's the bully's family's house
- 35:49Kearns: That's
- 35:50Jon: we
- 35:50Kearns: they live.
- 35:51Jon: for.
- 35:52We should be looking for 15 Rose Lane.
- 35:54That was Helen's house.
- 35:55And that's the it, yeah, that's the bit of information that Chuck
- 36:00gives to Maria at the beginning.
- 36:02Oh, did you know we used to be 15 Rose Lane?
- 36:06Ryan: Yep.
- 36:07of nice little like after watching, you're like, shit,
- 36:12Jon: But for, but from that revelation to them both getting pulled into that room
- 36:19Kearns: Yeah,
- 36:20Jon: it is, it's just too rushed.
- 36:22Ryan: Yes.
- 36:23Jon: You've, you've got a good deal of suspense built.
- 36:26You've got this revelation and that it's just over
- 36:32Kearns: Who directed this movie?
- 36:33Martin Scorsese.
- 36:35Is it Steven?
- 36:36What was it?
- 36:37Uh, Cascarelli.
- 36:39Ryan: No,
- 36:39Kearns: Coogi, Steven Coogi.
- 36:41You should have done better, man, like, you know better.
- 36:44I don't care what 8 2 4 said, or 8 7 6 5.
- 36:483 0 9. Again.
- 36:49But no seriously, like you, you had yourself another 20 minutes.
- 36:53Just
- 36:53Ryan: Yep.
- 36:54Kearns: it 20 minutes longer, and you got yourself a pretty
- 36:56polished diamond on this one.
- 36:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 37:00Ryan: yep.
- 37:00Kill Chuck.
- 37:01Keep Isabel alive, you
- 37:03Kearns: Yeah,
- 37:04Ryan: and then
- 37:04Kearns: Maria can also be an honorable sacrifice.
- 37:07Nobody will care.
- 37:07She stopped taking her meds, her fault.
- 37:09Jon: I don't really have any investment in any of them
- 37:12surviving or any of them dying.
- 37:14I, I'd be, I was fine with them, with everybody winding up dead,
- 37:18but I would've been fine with, you know, most of them surviving too.
- 37:22Kearns: Yeah.
- 37:23Jon: you needed to do more in that last scene.
- 37:25It needed to be more,
- 37:29Kearns: Yeah, that's, you know what though?
- 37:31That's an adequate description.
- 37:32It needed to be more like,
- 37:34Jon: again, it's, it's, it's a first really to, to great degree.
- 37:38A first feature film.
- 37:40Kearns: yeah.
- 37:41Ryan: Yes.
- 37:42Jon: know, the found footage stuff is different.
- 37:44You don't have that exposition in found footage necessarily.
- 37:48Kearns: I'm glad you brought us back to that though, because that does lead
- 37:50us to, there's abrupt endings in those movies, and this is an abrupt ending,
- 37:55Ryan: Yes.
- 37:56Kearns: a rough, abrupt ending.
- 37:57Jon: That's my general complaint with them.
- 37:59Like Blair Witch, I loved Blair Witch until the last five minutes.
- 38:04Kearns: peeing in the corner.
- 38:06Jon: I was ready to crap my pants,
- 38:08Kearns: Yeah.
- 38:09Jon: ready to crap my pants with Blair Witch.
- 38:11And then that's how it ended.
- 38:13And it
- 38:13Kearns: Yeah.
- 38:14Jon: why is he just, is he peeing?
- 38:17Is he, what is he doing?
- 38:19Why is he in the corner?
- 38:21Ryan: I still
- 38:21Jon: Oh, that's the end.
- 38:23Ryan: I still jumped.
- 38:24Jon: mean, it was okay, but you, they, he could have done so much more there
- 38:31Ryan: Oh yeah.
- 38:32He could have had, if
- 38:33Jon: because he
- 38:34Ryan: minutes a good fight scene or like something like
- 38:37Jon: mm-hmm.
- 38:37Ryan: forth or her trying to get back to the house or her
- 38:41Kearns: That would've been better.
- 38:41Yeah.
- 38:42Ryan: or her trying to
- 38:43Kearns: Fight scene for the Blair Witch would've ruined a certain vibe.
- 38:46'cause there was always a defeat was implied,
- 38:49Ryan: Oh, I was
- 38:50Kearns: you know?
- 38:51Ryan: 5 Forest Road.
- 38:51I'm sorry
- 38:52Kearns: Oh my bad.
- 38:53Ryan: No,
- 38:53Kearns: My bad.
- 38:54Ryan: Blair Witch was fine.
- 38:55It had to end like that.
- 38:56In my
- 38:56Kearns: Yeah.
- 38:57No, better fight against Helen would've been cool.
- 38:59You're right, Larry.
- 39:01If Larry came out like leisure suit, Larry style just came out
- 39:04and started being like, I, like he had sage bombs in his fists and he
- 39:09started, you know, knuckle dusting her
- 39:11Jon: mean,
- 39:11Ryan: like Reggie, yes.
- 39:13Ice
- 39:13Kearns: like Reggie.
- 39:15But he's got yeah, got the, uh, the receding hairline ponytail
- 39:19Ryan: Yes.
- 39:19Kearns: time too.
- 39:21And he gets distracted by a blonde and then they die anyway.
- 39:25Jon: by the way, to ve Vera, back into Cascarelli Fanboy podcast, I
- 39:31finished that short story collection of set in the Fantasm universe.
- 39:37goodness guys, like he catches every minor character that you
- 39:43could think about is down there.
- 39:45You get a
- 39:45Kearns: Oh, cool.
- 39:46Ryan: Okay,
- 39:47Jon: you get Rocky and Tanisha.
- 39:50Ryan: cool.
- 39:51Jon: you get.
- 39:5250 pages of a
- 39:54Kearns: Five
- 39:55Jon: which is the
- 39:57Ryan: Chunk.
- 39:58Jon: chunk, the just filling, filling out a story for chunk.
- 40:01And so you understand where he comes from.
- 40:05Kearns: Cool
- 40:05Jon: so good.
- 40:06And, and then a Reggie backstory with his time in Vietnam.
- 40:11And, and
- 40:11Kearns: Reggie.
- 40:12Time in Vietnam is exactly what I don't need.
- 40:16Jon: you do because it gives you so
- 40:17Kearns: I'm gonna see if you ling coming
- 40:20Jon: you,
- 40:20Kearns: back to United States with me.
- 40:23Jon: It's the genesis of the quad barrel.
- 40:26Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 40:26Nevermind.
- 40:27Jon: It's the, it's the beginning.
- 40:28It's the beginning of his horn dog.
- 40:31Kearns: Uh,
- 40:32Ryan: qua
- 40:32Jon: Like you, you start to see
- 40:34Kearns: if they like show Reggie going through puberty,
- 40:38Jon: Nah.
- 40:38Like re Reggie, um, an affinity for Vietnamese
- 40:44Kearns: they were gonna say another word that starts with a v.
- 40:46Jon: of the night.
- 40:47Kearns: Yeah.
- 40:48No, see, but that's exactly what I thought it was gonna be, like a short
- 40:51story that's just him with hookers is basically what I figured it would be.
- 40:56Yeah.
- 40:56Jon: definitely where it starts.
- 40:58It starts with Reggie sneaking off base to go to a whore house.
- 41:01Kearns: Yeah.
- 41:02And then it's just the tall man, but we didn't know.
- 41:07But um, all right.
- 41:10So we get to the end of the movie and, yeah, we all kind of feel like
- 41:15it could have ended a little bit better, but for the most part, A minus
- 41:19or b plus as far as if we have, we don't have an official rating scale,
- 41:23but that's, that's where it is.
- 41:25Ryan: B plus,
- 41:27Kearns: Yeah.
- 41:27B plus would probably be a better,
- 41:29Jon: this is a good B plus movie.
- 41:30Like it's, it's definitely worth the watch.
- 41:33It's definitely got a lot of that, the good, creepy vibe to it that you want.
- 41:39Kearns: yeah.
- 41:40Ryan: Yep.
- 41:40Kearns: Agreed.
- 41:42But yeah, uh, like I said, easy watch, don't have to spend a lot of money.
- 41:47A c plus is how I did.
- 41:48It's free on shutter as well, but I couldn't get it on that.
- 41:50I don't, I don't know why.
- 41:52Um,
- 41:53Ryan: Okay.
- 41:54Kearns: yeah.
- 41:55Ryan: That's happened to me with, uh, what do you call it, just to go back.
- 41:58That happened to me with dead snow.
- 42:00watch it on shutter
- 42:02Kearns: Interesting.
- 42:02Ryan: shutter.
- 42:03So
- 42:04Kearns: Might be a VPN issue.
- 42:06Actually.
- 42:06I didn't think of that, but maybe that's what it was on my end.
- 42:10But yeah, watch it.
- 42:11Jon: it, it,
- 42:13Kearns: Well, actually you should have watched it.
- 42:14We just spoiled it.
- 42:14Jon: I believe is the end of June
- 42:18Kearns: Okay.
- 42:18Physical is coming out at the end of June.
- 42:20Jon: Yep.
- 42:21Kearns: So you're talking about my physical
- 42:22Jon: by the time you listen to this, it's gonna be a avail,
- 42:26pretty close to available.
- 42:27Ryan: And definitely
- 42:28Kearns: fair.
- 42:30Ryan: Buy it
- 42:30Jon: Listen, I, I, I'll,
- 42:32Ryan: it.
- 42:32Jon: I'll get up on my, my soapbox right now.
- 42:35Support physical media.
- 42:39Ryan: Yes.
- 42:40Jon: The like, like one of the things we, that has come up when in doing this is
- 42:47the availability of things on streaming.
- 42:50Kearns: Yeah.
- 42:50Jon: don't have to worry about it if you bought it.
- 42:52I know it's expensive.
- 42:54It takes up space.
- 42:55It's, but
- 42:57Ryan: beautiful
- 42:57Jon: I mean, if you, you love film support, physical
- 43:03Kearns: Fair.
- 43:05That's a fair.
- 43:05Ryan: of, and there's a lot of places you can go to.
- 43:08Vinegar syndrome, you want classics, criterion Collection, you know,
- 43:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 43:15Ryan: buy, collect, it's, it's fun.
- 43:18even if you get the old ones with a little flip and click, I mean, come on now.
- 43:22Jon: Yeah.
- 43:23Kearns: Little clicky break in the middle and then they slide all over the thing.
- 43:26You gotta worry about 'em getting scratched.
- 43:28So then you use the manual to to, yeah, I was gonna say, but yeah.
- 43:32Guys, that was 8 2 5, forest Road, not Lane.
- 43:35And we're gonna jump into our top fives and we're gonna keep 'em brief tonight
- 43:39because Martin's one eye is a little bit closed because he's super tired.
- 43:43Super, super tired.
- 43:44So let's get after it.
- 43:46Mr. Ryan, what's our top five list tonight?
- 43:49Ryan: So I went with Shocker, supernatural, but supernatural
- 43:53things that like kind of take over like a house, places, anything.
- 43:58And I think you guys are gonna like this list and yeah, I've seen all
- 44:02these movies just to say controversy.
- 44:06I've seen 'em all.
- 44:07And we're gonna start off with one of my favorites in this film
- 44:11series, paranormal Activity three.
- 44:14Kearns: Oh, nice.
- 44:15Found footage.
- 44:16Ryan: I saw it in theaters.
- 44:18Um, I actually made the whole theater laugh.
- 44:20We went to a midnight opening in Poughkeepsie Galleria.
- 44:22Kearns: Oh wait, this was the Rosemary's Baby one.
- 44:25Ryan: uh, this is the one where they're, it's Katie and Christie
- 44:28and they're younger they're in the house and it, it's how it started.
- 44:33Kearns: Yeah, it's the Rosemary's baby one.
- 44:36Ryan: I,
- 44:36Kearns: The cult at the end.
- 44:38Ryan: yes, I,
- 44:39Kearns: Yeah.
- 44:40Ryan: it and I made the whole audience laugh when they opened the cellar door
- 44:43and everyone was quiet and I was like,
- 44:46Kearns: Yeah.
- 44:46Ryan: go
- 44:47Kearns: No,
- 44:48Ryan: And I
- 44:48Kearns: this one's good.
- 44:49Ryan: a crack, but I enjoyed it.
- 44:51Um, again, midnight openings when they still did that.
- 44:54It was just a good vibe.
- 44:55And that theater was packed and you can hear a pin drop because it was so tense.
- 45:00Now about tense.
- 45:03number four, I went with Insidious.
- 45:06That
- 45:07Kearns: like this.
- 45:08Ryan: Yeah.
- 45:09That
- 45:09Kearns: I like this list very much so far.
- 45:12Ryan: in Insidious.
- 45:12Scared the shit outta me to the point where my parents went outta
- 45:15town and I decided to watch it.
- 45:18And, uh,
- 45:20Kearns: Can, can I say a joke first?
- 45:22Ryan: Yeah,
- 45:22Kearns: That's a lot of shit
- 45:24Ryan: Oh.
- 45:25Kearns: to make him go outta town like that.
- 45:28Ryan: Listen, we live by a cemetery and it
- 45:30Kearns: a dad.
- 45:31I can do it.
- 45:32Ryan: It was not a good idea to watch it.
- 45:34Kearns: You got scared.
- 45:36Ryan: I that there's the house, the house is haunted, I believe.
- 45:41And uh, yeah, I made sure the door was locked.
- 45:44I didn't go out for a cigarette that night.
- 45:46That's all I'm gonna say.
- 45:47That's all I'm gonna say.
- 45:48Even the dog left me.
- 45:49I was like, what?
- 45:50What the hell?
- 45:51You're supposed to protect me.
- 45:52No, she left me.
- 45:54But number three, we've talked about this in earlier episodes.
- 45:59Um, and that's hereditary.
- 46:02I do enjoy it.
- 46:03Um, it's the modern, they say it's the modern day exorcist.
- 46:07Yep.
- 46:07The head cutting scene.
- 46:08I don't think it's the modern day exorcist, but it does have thrills.
- 46:12And
- 46:13Kearns: You mean Rosemary's baby,
- 46:15Ryan: Well, yeah,
- 46:16Kearns: your second Rosemary's baby of the list.
- 46:20Ryan: I, I love it.
- 46:21I mean, I
- 46:22Kearns: You know what I like about these two Rosemary's babies?
- 46:24Uh, they're different than the original Rosemary's baby.
- 46:27Ryan: Uh, very much different.
- 46:29There's a little more pace to it, I
- 46:31Kearns: We do have to say that paying homage to a great movie through mimicry.
- 46:36It isn't a bad thing.
- 46:38Ryan: No.
- 46:39Kearns: do have very heavy similarities to Rosemary's baby.
- 46:43Both, both of those ending scenes.
- 46:45Ryan: Oh, yeah.
- 46:46Yeah.
- 46:47And well, I don't believe number two is gonna be similar to Rosemary's
- 46:50baby, but I am gonna plug that the final film in the series is coming
- 46:54out this year and I can't wait.
- 46:57And that's the Conjuring.
- 46:59I,
- 47:00Kearns: I'm over it.
- 47:01Sorry.
- 47:03Yeah, they've ConEd
- 47:04Jon: of over the
- 47:05Kearns: enough money outta that franchise.
- 47:08Well, everything from Conjuring, that's the Annabelle, that's,
- 47:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 47:12Kearns: that's all of those, right?
- 47:13The none.
- 47:13Jon: And
- 47:14Kearns: We,
- 47:14Jon: Yeah.
- 47:15Kearns: I watched one of the more recent ones and it was decent.
- 47:18Which was the one with the two, the two, uh, the couple that goes
- 47:21around solving all the mysteries.
- 47:23Is that the same, the Warrens movies?
- 47:26That's con yeah.
- 47:27They, they've gotta have 10 films in that franchise now.
- 47:30Ryan: Well, for the main series, it's, I think it's
- 47:34Kearns: Insidious.
- 47:35Ryan: the main.
- 47:36Oh,
- 47:36Kearns: So Insidious was good and Insidious has the guy from the
- 47:39Warrens in it, um, watchdogs that guy, or not Watchdogs, uh, Watchman.
- 47:44He plays the Owl dude.
- 47:46He's in it.
- 47:47He does a great job.
- 47:48Insidious is better.
- 47:49Sinister was really good too.
- 47:51It came out around the same time as Insidious, but the Insidious
- 47:54movies were better, my opinion than uh, the Conjuring films.
- 47:59Ryan: I mean, uh, I feel like they're two, they're different in their own ways.
- 48:03They're two different style horrors.
- 48:05Like the Con Films is like, you watch it, you get scared that one time,
- 48:09but then when you watch it again, you can look at it at a different
- 48:11view, maybe as like a, it's a horror film, but maybe like biographical.
- 48:16'cause it's, they're true recordings, so to say, um, from it.
- 48:21So that's how I take it from there.
- 48:23Insidious is always gonna be a straight horror film, the second one.
- 48:27Black Bride?
- 48:29Yeah.
- 48:29No.
- 48:30No.
- 48:30Nope.
- 48:32Jon: I, like the conjuring are like first viewing.
- 48:39some creepiness and after that you sink more into camp almost
- 48:45Ryan: Okay.
- 48:45Jon: like you can, you can sit around with your buddies and
- 48:48make fun of it the whole time.
- 48:50Kearns: I don't even feel like I'd want to do it with those movies.
- 48:52I would, I choose more authentic camp for my buddy time than The Conjuring,
- 48:57'cause it was made to be camp.
- 48:59That's the way I feel too.
- 49:01Jon: Yeah.
- 49:01Kearns: Um, but I also don't wanna pee in Ryan's Cheerios and I, I
- 49:04Jon: like
- 49:04Kearns: like that.
- 49:05You enjoy them.
- 49:06Yeah,
- 49:06Ryan: that
- 49:07Jon: the Con, I haven't seen all of the Conjuring.
- 49:09I fell off 'em somewhere along the way.
- 49:12Like I haven't seen either of the NUN movies.
- 49:14I don't think I saw the last Annabelle,
- 49:16Ryan: You
- 49:17Kearns: they're dumb.
- 49:18Ryan: the
- 49:18Jon: like the ones I watched were fine.
- 49:21They were fine.
- 49:22Kearns: fine.
- 49:23Ryan: I, I mean I just stuck with the conjuring, so I've
- 49:26seen one, two, I've seen three.
- 49:28Um, I don't know.
- 49:30I'm excited to see the fourth one 'cause I wanted to see like what made them
- 49:32stop or supposedly what made them stop.
- 49:36Kearns: They stopped making money.
- 49:39Ryan: Okay.
- 49:39Fair.
- 49:39Especially after they got off.
- 49:41Let me not get into it.
- 49:44I'll
- 49:44Kearns: What's number one?
- 49:45Jon: I mean,
- 49:47Kearns: What's number one?
- 49:47Jon: I, I think the other thing that sort of killed that franchise for me
- 49:52is learning more about the Warrens and just how hux they, they were.
- 50:00Kearns: Yeah, they were freaking charlatans
- 50:03Jon: Yeah.
- 50:03Kearns: 1000%.
- 50:05But any who, what's number one?
- 50:08What's number one?
- 50:09Ryan: it's Man Stanley Kubrick, the Shining.
- 50:14I had a, you know, the thing is, is
- 50:18Kearns: What's your theme again?
- 50:19Ryan: super na supernatural
- 50:21Kearns: you that had trouble?
- 50:22Ryan: those are ghosts.
- 50:23All right.
- 50:24We
- 50:24Kearns: No, I mean, you can't, you can't go wrong with The
- 50:26Shining for Supernatural.
- 50:27For some reason, I, I forgot, um, 'cause of my brain damage, but yeah.
- 50:33Ryan: just, uh, I just love that movie since I was, since I was a kid.
- 50:37I feel like I. I got with my uncles, you know, you get my Uncle Joe, who
- 50:42always showed me the classic horror.
- 50:44And then my Uncle Sal did like a little, like modern during the nineties
- 50:47and like the whore and the gore.
- 50:49And my Uncle Joe was like, you know, you wanna really see horror, we're gonna
- 50:52watch this shiny, that's real horror.
- 50:55And it was on TV commercials
- 50:57Kearns: It.
- 50:58Ryan: and it was cut up and it's, it still, it still scares the
- 51:02shit outta you, the TV version.
- 51:04And then when you see the actual version, it's like, what was that bear
- 51:08doing with that man in that scene?
- 51:10Like, it's like, it's, you know, but, but it's a great supernatural film.
- 51:18And I'll say this and I'll, I'll make you guys think about this too, at the
- 51:23end, when he becomes a part of the house, he always a part of the house?
- 51:30Kearns: Jack,
- 51:31Ryan: Jack?
- 51:32Kearns: not Jack, um, what
- 51:34Ryan: John Johnny.
- 51:35Kearns: his name?
- 51:36Yeah.
- 51:36Johnny, uh, no, that they do, the thing with the, the outlook is that they tend
- 51:45to do the cycle of time as a wheel, kind of like ka in the dark Tower series.
- 51:51That's how that works.
- 51:52And that would make, that would make it a paradox and that it
- 51:55has no beginning and no end.
- 51:57So Yeah, if you're a part of it, you were always a part of it.
- 52:01But no, they went to the house.
- 52:02They went to the, the hotel, I mean, and they became absorbed
- 52:06by the evil he did specifically.
- 52:10I mean, it's not just a metaphor for Stephen King's alcoholism,
- 52:12almost ripping apart his family.
- 52:13It's totally not that.
- 52:15It's just a, it's, it's just a supernatural hotel.
- 52:18Hey John, you have a top five list too?
- 52:20We should try to talk about that.
- 52:21Yeah, let's do the top five.
- 52:22That was a really good one, Ryan,
- 52:24Jon: be before I go into my top five.
- 52:27I, I wanna plug Kerns for a second.
- 52:31By the
- 52:31Kearns: you and everybody else.
- 52:33Jon: by the time you
- 52:35Kearns: Oh,
- 52:35Jon: this, there will be a short story collection available that you
- 52:40should go and buy called Kinder, it,
- 52:45Kearns: ooh.
- 52:46I like the font
- 52:50cover design by Roderick Bryden, by everybody.
- 52:53Jon: Buy it.
- 52:54Kearns: Thank you guys.
- 52:56It is, it's a short little guy.
- 52:58It's only 154 pages, uh, nine stories.
- 53:01And I do something a little fun with it.
- 53:04That's not normal, I think.
- 53:05Um.
- 53:06People will enjoy it.
- 53:07If you pick up on it, you'll have to pick up on it.
- 53:09If you read it cover to cover, can't miss it.
- 53:12Ryan: angler.
- 53:14recommend the angler.
- 53:15Love the angler
- 53:16Kearns: I like the angler too.
- 53:17The angler was fun to write, but uh, yeah, it was.
- 53:21I wanted to get into real horror 'cause I write Dark Fantasy for my
- 53:25series and this is, this is bleak.
- 53:29This is bleak horror.
- 53:31Ryan: I've been waiting for you to write this for a while.
- 53:33I was
- 53:33Kearns: It's for you Ryan.
- 53:34I think it for you.
- 53:35Ryan: once you said, you know, it was connected the
- 53:37Jon: It's all for you, Ryan.
- 53:39Ryan: Always.
- 53:40Kearns: It's always for you, Ryan.
- 53:42Ryan: Always.
- 53:44I feel like King Tut from Batman now.
- 53:46Victor
- 53:46Kearns: There we go.
- 53:47Meet the moon.
- 53:50Every time you say a book title, I'm just gonna start showing them.
- 53:53It's the third one.
- 53:56Yeah.
- 53:56I.
- 54:01There you go.
- 54:02Lemme get 'em in order.
- 54:03But yeah.
- 54:04Um, so one of the things that occurs in the series is Lilith children
- 54:09are unleashed upon the world.
- 54:11And I didn't get a chance in the series to flush out what that's like
- 54:14dealing with her demonic children.
- 54:16And I also interweave the monsters of myth and whatnot into being her kids.
- 54:20So I got a chance to do that in the short story collection.
- 54:23I wish that I'd written 45 stories to put in that collection, but I'll keep doing
- 54:27'em over time and maybe do a second.
- 54:30Yep.
- 54:31I was thinking the same.
- 54:32That's, see, that's why Ryan's gonna be my agent.
- 54:34Ryan: You
- 54:35Kearns: But yeah, man,
- 54:36Ryan: kinders
- 54:37Jon: volume two.
- 54:39Kinder.
- 54:40Kearns: Kinder.
- 54:42Kinder.
- 54:44But thank you guys for pausing us long enough to plug the work.
- 54:47I appreciate it.
- 54:48Pre-orders jumped up nicely and yeah, thank you for bringing my
- 54:52proofreaders too, while my ARC readers Oh, much appreciated.
- 54:58Let's do John's top five.
- 55:01Jon: All right.
- 55:02So I went with five creepy mannequins.
- 55:07Kearns: I thought you were gonna say creepy men.
- 55:09Like
- 55:10Jon: there's way more than five.
- 55:12Kearns: don't go with five of them.
- 55:13My god.
- 55:14Jon: I can't, I, I, there's no way I could pair that list down to five.
- 55:19Kearns: All right, let's go on.
- 55:22Jon: So,
- 55:30so for number five, I took the Ryan route
- 55:34Kearns: Yeah,
- 55:34Jon: put on a movie I haven't watched yet.
- 55:37That's on my watch
- 55:38Kearns: it's illegal.
- 55:40Jon: I know, I know it, it feels like a sin, but it fits pretty
- 55:44well the movie's called Slacks,
- 55:50Kearns: Never heard of it.
- 55:51Ryan: No,
- 55:51Jon: S-L-A-X-X.
- 55:53Kearns: Um,
- 55:55Ryan: I've heard of
- 55:56Jon: So in Slacks, a,
- 55:59a possessed pair of blue jeans uses a mannequin to move and torment
- 56:05the employees of a clothing store.
- 56:09Libby must find a way to stop the jeans
- 56:15so you could killer blue jeans on a mannequin and it's, you know,
- 56:18it ha, that has to be awesome.
- 56:21Kearns: I mean, yeah.
- 56:22Ryan: I'm just,
- 56:23Kearns: Yeah.
- 56:24Ryan: going on the list.
- 56:27Kearns: I can't, yeah.
- 56:28I don't know if I can live the rest of my life without watching that movie now,
- 56:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:32Right,
- 56:34Kearns: like hacks.
- 56:36Ryan: feel like it's
- 56:36Kearns: All right.
- 56:39How many more mannequin based horror movies can there be?
- 56:42Jon: I have at least four, well, technically five, but
- 56:46Ryan: Yeah.
- 56:47Jon: my number four, they're not all based.
- 56:50Some of them are just an appearance of a mannequin or the way they use mannequins.
- 56:54And that's the case of number four.
- 56:57I know what you did last summer,
- 56:58Ryan: Yes.
- 57:00Kearns: Oh yeah, it's right.
- 57:02Jon: right?
- 57:04So you get that one scene where Helen is sneaking through a store
- 57:07with a bunch of mannequins, but one of them's not a mannequin.
- 57:11Kearns: That's pretty cool.
- 57:13I forgot about that.
- 57:13That was a long time ago.
- 57:15Jon: go too deep into I know what you did last summer because it's on the schedule.
- 57:19We're definitely doing it within the next couple months.
- 57:22Ryan: I can't wait.
- 57:24I can't wait.
- 57:25Love.
- 57:26I know what you did last summer.
- 57:27Jon: Wait.
- 57:28Yeah.
- 57:30Which will roll right into my number three trip.
- 57:35Ryan: I love that movie too.
- 57:38Jon: So a group of friends come across a roadside museum only to be stalked by
- 57:43the owner who can use his telekinetic powers to control the mannequins
- 57:48Ryan: It is so good.
- 57:49Jon: and potentially, possibly turn people into mannequins.
- 57:56Ryan: Oh, I think
- 57:57Kearns: Okay,
- 57:59Jon: Oh, yeah.
- 58:00And that, that's what, um, Western Legend Chuck Connors,
- 58:06Ryan: yep.
- 58:08Jon: which is pretty awesome.
- 58:11Kearns: legend.
- 58:13Jon: my number two, there's a remake, which I don't recommend,
- 58:19but my number two is House of Wax from 1953 with
- 58:23Kearns: Oh, fair.
- 58:23Ryan: Okay.
- 58:24Kearns: Thank you.
- 58:25Ryan: Yeah.
- 58:25Yeah.
- 58:26Kearns: Paris Hilton's in that, right?
- 58:27Ryan: Yep.
- 58:28Kearns: I was gonna say burn it.
- 58:30Jon: it, so the, the remake came out in 2005 with Paris Hilton, and the
- 58:35tagline at the time was kind of a draw and now feels a little gross.
- 58:41It was on May 6th, see Paris Die.
- 58:47Ryan: Yeah, but
- 58:49Kearns: is
- 58:49Jon: little
- 58:50Kearns: kind of funny.
- 58:50It was right after her sex tape dropped too.
- 58:53Ryan: did we all
- 58:53Jon: Yep.
- 58:53Ryan: it to see her
- 58:54Jon: It was,
- 58:55Ryan: Because I
- 58:56Kearns: I didn't see, I hit the hot box and I refused to watch it when it
- 58:58was free streaming on pay-per-view, and
- 59:02Jon: it,
- 59:02Ryan: that?
- 59:03Jon: but I, I don't think I watched it for that reason.
- 59:06Like the Paris Hilton phenomenon was something that sort of
- 59:11missed me mostly because I didn't ever consume any of that stuff,
- 59:17Kearns: Yeah,
- 59:18Ryan: Was there show at
- 59:19Kearns: that makes sense.
- 59:21Nicole or Richie, whatever her name was.
- 59:24Um,
- 59:24Jon: Yeah.
- 59:25Lionel's Kid.
- 59:26Kearns: their stupid name of the show though.
- 59:29But yeah, we don't even wanna bring, we don't wanna say it.
- 59:31Oh, simple.
- 59:32Jon: I remember these things?
- 59:35Ryan: On Fox,
- 59:36Jon: God.
- 59:36Kearns: On a farm.
- 59:38Ryan: you got rid of
- 59:38Kearns: Yeah.
- 59:39Ryan: for that bullshit.
- 59:40Kearns: All right.
- 59:41So House of Wax.
- 59:42I'm curious if number one's not a horror movie.
- 59:44Well, the one I'm thinking of with the very notable mannequin scene
- 59:48isn't a horror movie, but kind of is.
- 59:50But I'm curious if it's gonna be your number one.
- 59:53Ryan: I know.
- 59:53Jon: So my number one is, is two.
- 59:56It's a movie and it's remake.
- 59:58It's the rare remake.
- 1:00:00I really like Maniac,
- 1:00:02Kearns: Okay.
- 1:00:03Ryan: There's
- 1:00:04Kearns: I
- 1:00:04Jon: so,
- 1:00:05Kearns: didn't get that right.
- 1:00:06Jon: mm-hmm.
- 1:00:07Drained Serial killer is using mannequins to display the trophies
- 1:00:11he's taken from his victims.
- 1:00:15But eventually those mannequins sort of help him fall further into madness.
- 1:00:21Ryan: Yes.
- 1:00:21Jon: And so the original is like late seventies, early eighties,
- 1:00:26grimy gritty, New York City with Joe Spinel, who's like, you know,
- 1:00:32perfect sleazeball killer kind of guy.
- 1:00:35Like
- 1:00:35Ryan: Yeah,
- 1:00:36Jon: the role, a role he was born to play
- 1:00:39Ryan: he looks like a
- 1:00:40Jon: and then you remake it.
- 1:00:42Ryan: I was gonna say, he looks like a rundown.
- 1:00:43Ron Jeremy.
- 1:00:44Before Ron Jeremy became rundown
- 1:00:47Kearns: Yeah, I was gonna say
- 1:00:48Jon: Y Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:50Ryan: like
- 1:00:50Kearns: rundown.
- 1:00:51Jon: He, he did, he definitely could have played Ron Jerry in a biopic
- 1:00:56Ryan: Yes.
- 1:00:59Kearns: Um, you know what scene I was thinking of though before you go on.
- 1:01:02Um, I am legend.
- 1:01:04The, the mannequins and I am legend came to mind.
- 1:01:07I was like, oh, there'd probably be like three or two.
- 1:01:10Nope.
- 1:01:11Didn't make the cut.
- 1:01:12Jon: So then you, you get the 2012 remake with Elijah
- 1:01:16Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 1:01:17Jon: which, which he's very effective as a, as sort of a psycho killer in that way.
- 1:01:23Like he's got mannerisms and the affect and all that.
- 1:01:27He's really good.
- 1:01:29And you swap the grimy New York City for this sort of
- 1:01:33glitzy, empty LA and it works.
- 1:01:37Ryan: It does.
- 1:01:38Jon: So yeah, number one or is shared by maniacs.
- 1:01:43Ryan: real quick, I wanna say kudos for House of Wax, uh, Vincent Price.
- 1:01:48And, uh, just like we've mentioned Vincent Price a couple times, um, I
- 1:01:54feel like we all love Vincent Price.
- 1:01:56Shout out and watch a Vincent Price movie, ladies and Gentlemen,
- 1:01:58house of Wax, last Man on Earth.
- 1:02:01Watch that, man.
- 1:02:02It's just, he
- 1:02:03Kearns: Yeah,
- 1:02:03Ryan: kudos
- 1:02:04Kearns: one's good.
- 1:02:05Ryan: I'm sorry, besides thriller.
- 1:02:06Jon: Fly,
- 1:02:08Ryan: Yep.
- 1:02:08The fly.
- 1:02:09Jon: think.
- 1:02:10Kearns: I mean, you wanna get sued, but our intro,
- 1:02:14Ryan: Be afraid.
- 1:02:16Be
- 1:02:16Kearns: be very afraid.
- 1:02:19That's how we'll end this week, guys.
- 1:02:21All right.
- 1:02:21We'll see you next week for another episode and, 'cause I don't
- 1:02:25remember what we're doing it on.
- 1:02:27And yeah, stay sleazy.
- 1:02:30Ryan: A going guys.
- 1:02:32Jon: See ya.
