- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by C Kick. This is episode 400.
- 0:21I'll be your host, Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host, Nate
- 0:24Reyes. Nate.
- 0:27Can you take me higher? Let's go.
- 0:36How about it? Celebrating Episode 4, A hundred
- 0:42with a World Series finale. Congratulations to the Texas
- 0:49Rangers winning their first ever World Series title.
- 1:06Congratulations. I mean, it was it was basically
- 1:15gift wrapped. No.
- 1:21How do we how do we want to go about this?
- 1:23Do we just want to get the negative stuff out of the way?
- 1:25Do we want to like? Because I'll be honest, even in
- 1:29just this last game, I feel like my emotions were kind of up and
- 1:32down. This.
- 1:33Yeah, the first what, four or five innings?
- 1:42Not great baseball, but like, you know, impressive pitching.
- 1:47And then it got to be, like, really good baseball.
- 1:50And then it got to be like, oh, OK, well, we're just kind of
- 1:55running out the clock here. So yeah, I got a taste of all of
- 2:01it. I think there's a reason it was
- 2:08the least watched World Series. Let's say no, no, no.
- 2:11Let's say we'll save the negative stuff.
- 2:13We'll say that because we have we like we we don't have a
- 2:17choice. We have to address those
- 2:18elements of it. But off the top here, you know,
- 2:22like I said, Congrats to the Rangers.
- 2:25This is, this has been a long time coming.
- 2:27Rangers fans. I know there's been a lot of a
- 2:31lot of noise talked about this World Series and we'll certainly
- 2:34get into it. But we know there's Rangers fans
- 2:39out there and they were fully locked into this World Series
- 2:41that it wouldn't have mattered who they went up against and
- 2:44they they've had to deal this it.
- 2:47We're not talking like a Red Sox curse or something.
- 2:51We're talking very recently. They've had to endure like a
- 2:54very immense amount of pain coming so close, so close, and
- 3:04just not quite getting there. But the fact that they were able
- 3:09to essentially steamroll their way to this title.
- 3:12I'm not even going to, I'm not going to beat around the Bush.
- 3:15They steamrolled their way to this title.
- 3:19I I can't say I want to say dominant.
- 3:23I want to, but it's so weird because like they did lose a lot
- 3:32of games at home. I like, I mean crazy amount of
- 3:34wins on the on the road which is more impressive.
- 3:39I want to say dominant offensively.
- 3:41I don't offensively, that might have been.
- 3:47The best offensive postseason we've seen in our lifetime.
- 3:52Is that crazy? That's not crazy.
- 3:55They went off, dude. I the stats they were flashing
- 3:59across all night, it was like this postseason, they're hitting
- 4:02like 429 with two outs. They have like 13.
- 4:13Innings where they scored like 3 or more runs like just insane
- 4:17numbers. Definitely.
- 4:19If this quote there, I don't know if that's accurate, but if
- 4:22they hit a home run in the game, there's like 137% chance they
- 4:27win the game. Just crazy numbers, statistics
- 4:32that don't even make sense. But because it was this offense,
- 4:36it seemingly just made sense. Because it's it's a reminder of,
- 4:39Oh yeah, that's what this team does and that's how this team
- 4:43wins. And they did it and did it
- 4:46often. And to me it was fitting.
- 4:50And I think they even made note of it with Simeon's home run to
- 4:54cap off the night like it. A fitting note that they end on
- 5:00a bomb because that's what this team did all season long.
- 5:05It's not a it's not a one run kind of team dude.
- 5:09It's not a squeak or run across kind of thing.
- 5:12This team just pummeled the baseball.
- 5:16They're they're not a one run team.
- 5:19But the second they got the first first run across the board
- 5:23I said it's over. I started.
- 5:25I started pre populating my notes and like my episode info
- 5:28like Rangers win the title, the episode Rangers win the World
- 5:32Series because I'm like this is over like.
- 5:35If you're going to hold them down for so long, right?
- 5:37Like if you're the D backs and and specifically Zach Gallon and
- 5:40you go out there and hold them to six no hit innings and then
- 5:47the 7th rolls around, they string together a few hits, get
- 5:51one across the board. I said it's over.
- 5:52Like the I, you got exactly what you needed from Gallon, but.
- 5:56It wasn't enough. That's what I was going to say.
- 5:59We got to give a bravo to to Zach Gallon.
- 6:02Super gutsy performance, dude. Super, super impressive.
- 6:06Little little he heard. Maybe maybe too little too late.
- 6:11From Zach Gallon, buddy, where were you?
- 6:13Yeah, now you're the one looking at spring training details
- 6:17because you're going home without a ring.
- 6:20And look, I'm not here. I'm not trying to talk noise on
- 6:23Zach Gallon. I get it.
- 6:24But this is what I said. Him and Paul Seewald were two
- 6:28examples of guys where I'm like, you all need to chill with the
- 6:31hashtag receipt season and and making comments to Phillies fans
- 6:36on Twitter. And it's not like a oh I I was
- 6:39like a pseudo Phillies fan. They hurt my feelings.
- 6:42I I I couldn't have cared less about that.
- 6:44I'm just saying don't treat this like your World Series, because
- 6:48you haven't even started the World Series yet and you're
- 6:52going on Twitter rampages talking about we've got the
- 6:55receipts. Didn't really pan out for you
- 6:58guys. Yeah.
- 7:00I don't. I'm not a I'm not a fan of any
- 7:03social media. When you're in the play offs
- 7:05slash postseason no matter the sport.
- 7:08If you can log off of all social media, I think you should.
- 7:13I think it's important to do that so but either way gutsy
- 7:18performance super impressive. It's just like you can't.
- 7:27You can't leave that many runners on.
- 7:30You just can't. Especially when your dude on the
- 7:34other side is just nutting up for you and doing everything you
- 7:38need them to do. You can't leave them out to dry.
- 7:42This offense definitely did that and it's like the it's not, I
- 7:49don't know like get your lead obviously if you can and and I
- 7:53think it'd be more difficult for this Rangers team to to come
- 7:56back but like. To get no hit through six, and
- 8:04then you still have the confidence that you're going to
- 8:08pull this one out because Nathan Evaldi's a freaking magician.
- 8:15It's just crazy. Yeah, I mean, you can, you can
- 8:20applaud the no hit element of that from gowns performance all
- 8:23you want. And again, taking nothing away
- 8:26from that, but the fact that you had Nathan Nivaldi on the other
- 8:29side and the score was the same. I don't care how many hits
- 8:32Nathan Nivaldi gave up, he got out of the jams, as he's done
- 8:36pretty much the entire postseason.
- 8:40And it's the score showing 00 going into the 7th.
- 8:43I'm like, I, you know, they're going to like you said, they're
- 8:47coming. They were.
- 8:48They were coming. It was just a matter of time and
- 8:51who else but to break it up, Yeah, but Corey Seeger?
- 8:55And I mean the the lineup's so good that like, and I know Zach
- 8:59Allen's dicing and I know that this this lineup, you can't give
- 9:05them that many looks at them. And if the Diamondbacks were
- 9:09able to get any kind of run support up, they would have gone
- 9:13to that bullpen. They would have, said Jabo.
- 9:16Done Zach, we're going to move on.
- 9:18But when you're forcing this and and you're.
- 9:22You don't have a lead. You can't get any runs up.
- 9:24You can't. You know you can't play with
- 9:30with a lead. It's so tough.
- 9:32It's so tough. So I don't have.
- 9:38I don't. I'm not going to put that on
- 9:39Gallon. I think he would have been out
- 9:41of the game if the Diamondbacks scooter got any sort of lead for
- 9:43him. Man, I love, like I said, it was
- 9:54just an up and down game and it was very symbolic of just the
- 10:02way I feel like the series went. And you could argue the Posties
- 10:07as a whole. Yeah, it was just there was
- 10:09like, wow, that moment may have been a flash in the pan, but
- 10:14that was really cool. And then there's other elements
- 10:16of it where you're like, this isn't good baseball and then
- 10:19you're and then you kind of come up on the tail end of it and
- 10:22you're like, all right, well, we've reached the end.
- 10:26That was cool. And that that's kind of how I
- 10:28felt throughout this game. It's kind of how I felt
- 10:30throughout the whole postseason. It was just a very strange
- 10:37collection of moments and. Super agree.
- 10:41Super. Super.
- 10:42Agree. The whole thing.
- 10:45The whole thing. Like the entire thing is just
- 10:49it's odd. So I think I said it last.
- 10:52Pod. Like the The Diamondbacks
- 10:53wouldn't even have been here if the Cubs didn't collapse the
- 10:56last week of the season. And for this to turn into just
- 11:02odd matchups. I mean, like the Twins somehow
- 11:09like. Beating an anemic Blue Jays, The
- 11:15Orioles being a complete flop. The Marlins sneaking in to,
- 11:19like, steal our wild card opportunity and get just
- 11:22dominated by the Phillies. Like the Dodgers to not be
- 11:26themselves. It.
- 11:27It was just a super weird Outside of the Astros performing
- 11:33well and and always being in contention, nothing about this
- 11:38postseason was normal. And I'm not saying it in like a
- 11:42good way. I'm saying it in like, AI get I
- 11:47I if I was to rate this entire postseason, including the World
- 11:50Series, I'm giving it AC minus. And it's not like, I know
- 11:57there's probably some people like, oh, it's because the
- 11:58Yankees weren't in it. No, that's not why.
- 12:00It was the fact that, like, it's like you said, it's just this
- 12:03weird collection of lopsided games.
- 12:07Interesting moments. But nothing like super like Grab
- 12:15the public kind of thing. No one cared about this.
- 12:19Yeah, it it was tough. Well, like I said or I feel,
- 12:23still feel like we're getting ahead of ourselves.
- 12:24We'll look at like the big picture here in a little bit.
- 12:26But specifically this series I believe.
- 12:33If I do recall, I had Rangers in five.
- 12:36Sure did. Sure did because I just felt
- 12:41like an 84 D backs, 84 win D backs team was not going to be
- 12:46the team that pushed this to six or seven.
- 12:51And I'll admit like I did pose the question I believe maybe
- 12:54last episode where I'm like is there a scenario where this
- 12:57doesn't go six or seven just because of the way that the
- 13:00first couple games it went. Going back to that point about
- 13:04this being a series of just weird like roller coaster, like
- 13:08wow, the Rangers really shined their wow.
- 13:10The D backs are playing their brand of baseball, so like just
- 13:13back and forth. So I'm like on paper this 84 win
- 13:18D backs team should not be any any degree of a threat to this
- 13:24Rangers team. But I I don't know.
- 13:26But when I had to make a decision, when I had to say.
- 13:30When I had to put pen to paper and say what is this series
- 13:34going, I said 5 and sure enough, I think the Rangers showed why
- 13:41they probably had no concern that this was going to go beyond
- 13:46four or five. Yeah, I don't even want to talk
- 13:54about game four, by the way. Like that was just, I don't
- 13:57think there's anything to really cover there.
- 13:59All right, well, then we'll go to game three.
- 14:01Let's talk Let's let's just. I mean we we our last episode
- 14:06was after game two so we we have yet to cover 3-4 and five.
- 14:09We don't need. I mean there's literally no
- 14:11sense in going in and like breaking down the statistics of
- 14:14each game but just taking away bits and pieces from each to
- 14:18really kind of put a bow on this to show like how we got here so
- 14:22on and so forth. Game three was the Max Scherzer
- 14:25appearance. Looks OK Looks, I mean, looked
- 14:31pretty good. He gave you 3 innings.
- 14:35He gets hit. Do we?
- 14:38I'll be honest with you. I looked around and I couldn't
- 14:40find an answer as to where he got hit from that comebacker.
- 14:45Was it in the back? I mean, I I would assume so
- 14:48because they said back. Like tightness is why?
- 14:52Well, I I didn't know if that was just a separate thing
- 14:54altogether, which I would not have surprised me in the least
- 14:57if Scherzer's back just all of a sudden decided to tighten up and
- 15:01give him an issue. But sorry, they're showing the
- 15:09the champagne all ready to go. Sucker for champagne showers,
- 15:13for sure. I was thinking about that the
- 15:14other day. I'm like just once.
- 15:17Just once. I would love to.
- 15:19Like I don't even. Doesn't even have to be anything
- 15:22related to me. I just want to be in there to to
- 15:24see what that experience is like.
- 15:27One day, one day, soon enough, we'll be in there.
- 15:31But yeah, the Max Scherzer appearance gave you what I think
- 15:36most people are probably expecting.
- 15:37A few innings. He was able to minimize the
- 15:39damage. P Fat on the other hand, not as
- 15:43sharp. He went a little deeper though.
- 15:455 and a third. But they the the Rangers were
- 15:51able to rebound from that do in great part to John Gray.
- 15:56What he was able to do, he gives you 3 innings and then you flip
- 16:01it over to the the pen. That's been so, or that was so
- 16:06brilliant for you. I mean spores.
- 16:08Chapman, Leclerc. And Speaking of Chapman, tip of
- 16:12the cap never had that moment really.
- 16:16I mean, maybe what's? That was that in the Times?
- 16:21Where he got out, he got that big double play.
- 16:25What was that game? Yes, with secret.
- 16:29He like, worked his way into a jam, right?
- 16:34Chapman worked his way into a jam.
- 16:35I think he walked the first guy and then there was a single He
- 16:38had like first and second with no outs.
- 16:40I think. I think so to double play or no,
- 16:44I think there was. Didn't that end the inning, I
- 16:47thought. I thought he got pulled after
- 16:49that. I thought he got 2 outs and then
- 16:50got pulled. But I could be wrong.
- 16:51I don't know, blending all these games together.
- 16:54But yeah, I mean like you started to feel, dude, if you
- 16:57were to tell me that Chapman would have two rings in the last
- 17:00seven years and the Yankees would have none, I would have.
- 17:03I would have told you you were crazy.
- 17:05I would have told you you were crazy.
- 17:07You know how hard that is to see, Yeah.
- 17:12Still, job well done and well, I mean, it's a, it's an
- 17:15interesting point because like throughout this game, I mean
- 17:19throughout the series, but specifically this game, you
- 17:21know, as the broadcast team starts to sense like, OK, this
- 17:26thing is wrapping up Visit, we're calling this a season.
- 17:29You know they start to pan to different guys and they start
- 17:32you know sharing little little tidbits about this or that kind
- 17:35of building the narrative a little bit.
- 17:38Yeah, they they're paying into guys like Jacob degrom and
- 17:42Aroldis Chapman and guys like that.
- 17:44And I'm just like it. Even Austin Hedges.
- 17:48I saw Austin Hedges faces a number of times on there and I'm
- 17:51like, you know, that's that's the beauty of baseball.
- 17:55And people can. People can talk down about that
- 17:59aspect of the game to where the roster size can only create
- 18:05situations like this where you have a guy like Aroldis Chapman
- 18:08who at times has just been atrocious having two rings to
- 18:13his name and a team like the Yankees since 2009 having none.
- 18:18It's insane. It's just, it's crazy.
- 18:20But you know, for a team like the Rangers, for a team, any
- 18:27team in a situation or scenario where they're about to and
- 18:32eventually win a World Series, you you have to have a
- 18:37collection of guys who at one point or another step up and
- 18:42have their moment. And we're talking about it
- 18:44before we hopped on a guy like Josh Boers, a guy I grew up
- 18:48playing travel ball with, who coincidentally had the what was
- 18:53on the on the bump for the final out, which was just awesome to
- 18:55see. I think he went two and a third
- 18:57tonight, which was, you know, tip of the cap to him.
- 18:59And I'm super pumped for that guy.
- 19:03But he was ask, ask Dodgers fans, man, he was booed out of
- 19:08LA. They go on Twitter.
- 19:10They had nothing nice to say about him.
- 19:13Right. And then you got Rangers fans
- 19:16even at certain. You got like guys like Heaney
- 19:18too. I mean, Heaney has had a really
- 19:20up and down career. That's what I'm saying, man.
- 19:23It's just a it's it's a funny game that way, which zooming out
- 19:28a little bit, talking a little bit.
- 19:29Big picture here. It's why the ring narrative or
- 19:33the ring, the the conversation surrounding rings doesn't really
- 19:37move the needle for me because it's like it so much of it can
- 19:41just be happenstance. I mean, look at Jacob degrom.
- 19:44Do you Do you honestly think if you were to have a conversation
- 19:47with Jacob degrom right now that he would be truly fulfilled with
- 19:53the way he's getting this ring? No, I would, I would say that's
- 19:57like the Acuna. With the Braves.
- 20:00Right. It's it's like, I'm no doubt
- 20:03that the ring is going to be bright as ever, regardless how
- 20:07like how much or how little you you contribute.
- 20:10If you're getting a ring. It's a ring.
- 20:11I'm not. I'm not talking down on that.
- 20:14But I'm sure you'd rather been healthy.
- 20:16Yeah. But you know, it's I, I think it
- 20:18just hits a little bit different.
- 20:20But like I said, I think that's the beauty of of all of this is
- 20:24there's just so many different stories, so many different
- 20:26career trajectories that all lead, that lead all of these
- 20:31guys to this very moment. And once the dust settles, you
- 20:35got a collection of of Texas Rangers who are going to be
- 20:39walking away with the ring and that.
- 20:40I mean, that's a cool thing to see.
- 20:42Yeah. So we're skipping Game four,
- 20:44right? Because that was just that was
- 20:46lame. Game 5 well I the the one thing
- 20:49I did want to bring up about game four and I think it was
- 20:53honestly made a bigger deal than I I thought it would be coming
- 21:00into today's game. Like I I still feel like there
- 21:03was some remnants of of that discussion.
- 21:05But the move by Bruce Bocci to bring in Jose Leclerc to get the
- 21:11final out, did you have any particular any strong thoughts
- 21:14on that by chance? Because when I saw it, I'm like
- 21:19good for Boach man. Like shutting the door, not
- 21:23giving these guy, not giving these D backs any momentum.
- 21:26I mean they were able to tack on two against the clerk but I
- 21:28don't even, I don't even know if those were his.
- 21:30I don't think those were his. I think those are inherited.
- 21:32Here's here's exactly what I said, 'cause we were passing out
- 21:37candy over at Paige's parents house and.
- 21:40Her dad had the game up on on the iPad in the in the driveway.
- 21:43So we're watching that while we're passing out candy.
- 21:47And I told him, I said at a certain point this game will
- 21:51turn into the Diamondbacks. Just trying to get something
- 21:56going for tomorrow, like get get feeling good in the box, get
- 21:59some momentum heading into tomorrow.
- 22:02If you're lucky to climb back into this thing, like, great.
- 22:05But let's just try to have quality a BS that we can carry
- 22:08into tomorrow. That's the mentality there.
- 22:10So to bring it back to your point, the big boss move from
- 22:15Hall of Famer Bruce Bocci saying no, you're not going to do that.
- 22:20I'm not going to let you get good a BS in.
- 22:23I'm going to end your night now and like you said, yeah maybe a
- 22:26couple runs but still like he's been, he's been nails this post
- 22:29season run into a couple hiccups.
- 22:32But overall like we don't want to give these guys comfortable a
- 22:34BS. To just stroll in tomorrow and
- 22:37and stay hot. So that's a baller move.
- 22:40To me, that's a baller move. Bruce Bocce is is the real
- 22:45freaking deal. Yeah, and like I I posted that.
- 22:49I posted that meme today, which I thought was hilarious.
- 22:51I I would give credit. I don't know who made it, but I
- 22:54it was just floating around. But it was in response to that,
- 22:58to that decision and it was a side by side headshot of Kevin
- 23:03Cash and Bruce Bocci on the left.
- 23:05You have Kevin. No, I got it.
- 23:08I I, I, I have to do this justice.
- 23:11I can't, I'm not going to miss misquote it here, but I'm like
- 23:17this is just the perfect encapsulation of what I'm
- 23:20talking about with just at certain times knowing when to go
- 23:24with your gut. So it was a picture of Kevin
- 23:27Cash like crying and he said we need to make sure we're throwing
- 23:30rested relievers because our closers X woe Bacon is 1.3%
- 23:36higher when pitching back-to-back days and has
- 23:38allowed a .4 degree higher launch angle to the third
- 23:41batter. And then a picture on the left
- 23:44is just a picture of Bruce Bocci smile and he says it's time for
- 23:47Jose Leclerc to pitch lol. And I'm like, I'm like that's
- 23:51what I'm saying. Sometimes just need to go with
- 23:53your gut And I think the the decision to bring him in and
- 23:57like you said, not give them good looks, good ABS and just
- 24:04solidifying the win. Because we all know at this at
- 24:08this time like the post season is when a win means that much
- 24:13more like you're not trying to be strategic, you need to lock
- 24:17down a win, even if that means playing out of your playing out
- 24:23of your plan. And I'm sure Bruce Bochy's plan
- 24:25was not to go to Leclerc up six but he said you know what, the D
- 24:30backs are starting to string a little something together.
- 24:32Let's put an end to this right now.
- 24:34And the biggest thing for me is, OK, you bring him in, he, you
- 24:39know he's going to close it down.
- 24:41Regard even if he gave up a couple more, they're going to
- 24:43get the win. And at that point you're going
- 24:45to be up 3 to 1. So what if he can't go to in
- 24:49game five? He didn't go in game five and
- 24:51look what happened and say you drop Game 5.
- 24:55You play for, you play for that night, you don't play for
- 24:57tomorrow. That's what I'm saying.
- 24:59So that was my biggest take away from game.
- 25:01Four, I guess. I mean, yeah, I think my take
- 25:03away with the with the Diamondbacks and I think it's
- 25:05just the opposite. We talked about it last episode.
- 25:08I think it. Is going to start a trend of
- 25:12getting former players into the front office and Chris Young
- 25:15being the GM and making this hire for Bruce Bocci to be able
- 25:19to Hey, here's a script, here's what we found.
- 25:22But you're a Hall of Famer, so if you need to adjust, you make
- 25:25adjustments on the fly. And only players understand that
- 25:29when front office nerds get involved, you see what you saw
- 25:32with the Diamondbacks yesterday. You saw Man Supply.
- 25:35Coming out hot, looking good. But stick to this grip.
- 25:38Let's move on to the next guy and then eventually that
- 25:40implodes. It's just the difference between
- 25:43the two and and I think that we have now for multitude of
- 25:50reasons and we'll probably get into this deeper into the
- 25:53offseason. But I think you're starting to
- 25:56get the feel back to baseball. You're starting to get guts back
- 26:01to baseball. There's a reason why these old
- 26:03managers. Are coming back and getting
- 26:05jobs. Still, there's a reason for
- 26:08that. The league isn't full of just
- 26:11Aaron Boones yes men. It's got older guys coming back
- 26:15and having a combination of both.
- 26:18So I'd love to see a trend. I know we laughed about Gabe
- 26:22Kapler having AGM opening possible with the with the Red
- 26:27Sox was it? I know we laughed about that.
- 26:30But think about what that does is getting.
- 26:33Players into that seat and understanding all aspects to it.
- 26:37So I think the freaking Rangers just nailed it.
- 26:42And I don't know, man, it's that's a big gut punch, no
- 26:46matter how how you made the game somewhat manageable.
- 26:49Was it 11-5? How it ended?
- 26:52Whatever, 11/7 they they attacked on those two against
- 26:55the clerk finish game 11/7. I don't think.
- 26:59I don't think. Yeah, that doesn't do it for me.
- 27:01That was not, by the way. That's a way worse.
- 27:03Game than that score. Oh yeah, I was just about to say
- 27:06I don't care what the score is at the end.
- 27:07That was not an 11 to 7 game. No, by no means.
- 27:13Tonight I think my takeaways for tonight for game five.
- 27:20Excellent pitching by two vets. Nathan Yavaldi.
- 27:28Big game Name that man. Is a straight baller.
- 27:34That man is a straight baller. I have mad respect for that
- 27:38dude. He's done it in different unis.
- 27:41He's done it in different scenarios.
- 27:44He's taking hard LS like he just is a true pros pro.
- 27:50That was gutsy tonight. Gutsy.
- 27:56Getting out of jams like that was absurd.
- 28:01I don't know how many left on. Let me see how many left on he
- 28:04bent. But he didn't break, and that's
- 28:06what he did this whole postseason.
- 28:08And I I genuinely believe that everybody in that clubhouse, and
- 28:15probably most Rangers fans watching, had little to no
- 28:22concern about their chances in Game five with him on the mound.
- 28:27Yeah. Don't know if I can find how
- 28:31many were left on. Quite a few, though, I think.
- 28:37Oh, that's the Rangers. Arizona Diamondbacks left 11,
- 28:48left 11 on base tonight. That's bad.
- 28:57The I think the one run deficit was I wasn't quite nailing in
- 29:05the I wasn't nailing it in yet the way you were.
- 29:08I thought there was still like some good energy from the crowd.
- 29:12I thought that there could maybe be a little something showing
- 29:15they they brought it. I'll give them credit even like
- 29:18I I think even D backs fans, even though they were at home, I
- 29:23think they were feeling the heat.
- 29:24Like, yeah. Oh, everybody was done here.
- 29:31Everybody was done here. For sure.
- 29:32But I'll give them, I'll give them credit, man.
- 29:34They they were there. Yeah.
- 29:35And the one? Nothing, I think, you know, I
- 29:37mean, that's that's one swing, right?
- 29:39Like one swing from anybody in that lineup.
- 29:41We've seen it plenty of times. It can happen.
- 29:45Look, Alec Thomas letting that ball squirt through.
- 29:51I understand it didn't end up mattering that much.
- 29:56But the gut punch? Of letting two more in as a as a
- 30:05player. You have no throw.
- 30:10Why are you coming up do or die like that?
- 30:14Why are you coming in that hot? You don't have a play anywhere.
- 30:19Do you got nowhere to go there? I don't know who was on 1st, but
- 30:26they're going first to third, no problem.
- 30:33I just don't understand why he's busting it in that hard on a
- 30:36baseball that that to me that was absolutely the nail for
- 30:40sure. I think the obvious nail, but
- 30:43it's just it's a gut punch of being down one.
- 30:48Maybe my guy can work out of this and maybe we carry that
- 30:52momentum over offensively. To down three and it's it's at
- 31:04that point, irreversible. It's not a good play.
- 31:08It took me back to Trent Grisham to the seats I was in, watching
- 31:14that game live in person. I see the ball squirt through.
- 31:17I said this game's over because it's not like the.
- 31:24I mean, it's a mental mistake that, well, it's a blessing and
- 31:28a curse, depending upon obviously, which side of the
- 31:32ball you're you're on. But a play like that, in the
- 31:37postseason in particular, it doesn't matter how consequential
- 31:44the play may be in the box score or even for the mojo in the
- 31:50clubhouse or in in the dugout. Something like that can either
- 31:56put the fans right back into the game or take them completely
- 32:01out, depending, again depending upon which side of the ball
- 32:03you're on, where you're playing. But that play right there, even
- 32:08if the the D backs would have been capable to to answer the
- 32:12following half inning with you know a a three spot or four spot
- 32:16it, once you lose the the energy in that ballpark it's done.
- 32:20And I think that's why you can easily say that that was the
- 32:22obvious nail. And that's, I mean, he couldn't
- 32:25get, you couldn't get any, you couldn't string anything
- 32:30together. So down one already feels like a
- 32:33hurdle. Anything more than that, just
- 32:39nothing else going on. My other takeaways I I just
- 32:45think there's an obvious obvious.
- 32:50Lopsided difference in roster depth.
- 32:55I think the depth of the Rangers roster versus the Diamondbacks
- 33:01and you bring a name up like, like Tommy Pham, I'll put my
- 33:08hand up mad respect in a in a heck of a postseason
- 33:12performance. Not tonight, but overall, like a
- 33:16really, really good postseason. But that's that's your guy.
- 33:29And Tommy Pham has been a role player his entire career, and
- 33:34you're telling me that all of a sudden he's got to be part of
- 33:38the order, show up every time. Like that's who you're banking
- 33:42on. And no disrespect to Tommy Pham,
- 33:45because again, like it. I didn't like the guy before.
- 33:47I don't know if I'd like him at all, but I will say he
- 33:50performed. But either way that's not the.
- 33:55I think when you go into the season you're breaking camp.
- 33:59If you were to tell me that, hey, we're going to we're going
- 34:01to lose the last game of the year with Tommy Pham as our DH,
- 34:06like that's not what you're really hoping for.
- 34:08I don't care who you are. Don't tell me that that's the
- 34:11that's plan A. You know, there's just there
- 34:14wasn't a ton of depth. Evan Longoria being pinch hit
- 34:18for for for Paven Smith. Paven Smith.
- 34:24I mean Evan Longoria. I don't like that pinch hit at
- 34:28all, by the way. I hate that pinch hit.
- 34:31I hate that pinch hit. I don't care about.
- 34:34Righty, righty. I don't care.
- 34:36I understand. But that's what I'm telling.
- 34:38I'm. I'm just saying there's there's
- 34:39a lack of depth they had. They had a good performance all
- 34:43around. Certain guys showed up at
- 34:45certain times. They're ahead of schedule.
- 34:48Whatever. Like things you want to say
- 34:50about the Diamondbacks. You can throw those positives at
- 34:52them, and I'm cool with that. But they're just they're not.
- 34:56They weren't deep. They weren't deep.
- 34:58And and when your season is hanging in the balance by
- 35:02certain names like that and Christian Walker doesn't, you
- 35:06know, do what Christian Walker does during the regular season.
- 35:08You have other guys that you know it's nice and and you
- 35:11expect them to step up. But like a.
- 35:13A Guriel and a Tommy Pham, they're role players.
- 35:17They're 4th outfielders. No matter how well they perform
- 35:20this, this postseason that they can't be your your engine, you
- 35:27know what I'm saying? Like they just they they needed
- 35:30a couple more sticks. They needed a little bit more
- 35:32Bop in that lineup. Look man they were a scrappy
- 35:37team and they're romantic team like it.
- 35:40It's easy to fall in love with a A-Team like that.
- 35:43I mean regardless how you may feel about the postseason format
- 35:47you got an 84 win Diamondbacks team who's you know they're
- 35:52embracing the chaos as they say the snake's alive.
- 35:55You got. I mean I did.
- 35:58I I didn't mean to to throw a stray there at Longoria but you
- 36:02got guys like Longoria, Tommy Fam on the Corbin Carroll.
- 36:08Guys like that where you know like it.
- 36:12I I don't want to say misfits, but like it's not exactly like a
- 36:16it's they're far from a juggernaut.
- 36:18So it's easy to fall in fall in love with a team like that.
- 36:21But when you go up against a seasoned team like the Rangers
- 36:26with just dudes with dogs. Especially when it comes time
- 36:30for the postseason, when the lights of October turn on, when
- 36:34you got, when you got Nathan Iavaldi going in a clinching
- 36:40game. I'm sorry, the the romanticism
- 36:45of it runs out. It really does.
- 36:48And you know, like I I think for baseball, I think this is good.
- 36:58Personally speaking, I'm sure there'd be plenty of people that
- 37:01disagree. But I'm glad to see a team like
- 37:05the Rangers who have gone out, they've developed, they've spent
- 37:11the money, they've put themselves in a position to do
- 37:15what they just did tonight and they go out and do it.
- 37:19I'm glad A-Team like that can still reign mighty once the
- 37:26calendar flips in to November versus A-Team like the D backs
- 37:31where it's like you got the rest of we talked about this all the
- 37:34time dude. You got the you got the rest of
- 37:36the league look looking around going you know I mean at at the
- 37:40D backs can do it like we can. Let's let's try and model this
- 37:44thing after what they're doing. We don't need to spend the
- 37:46money. And I'm telling you if you're
- 37:48listening to this, believe us it's you don't want baseball
- 37:54going down that road. You the the rest of the
- 37:56organizations outside of the team like the D backs the Rays
- 38:00teams like that. You don't want them following
- 38:02that model. We're already said they talked
- 38:05about it plenty with the starting pitching and just the
- 38:08way especially in in in October the the outings get shorter you
- 38:13you long for the days when you had a guy multiple guys in a
- 38:18rotation that could go they could give you 7 no problem.
- 38:21Yeah, but we're already starting to see the trajectory of that
- 38:25where it's like, OK, guys are having to to build their stardom
- 38:29as a starter in the postseason, in four innings or less.
- 38:34It's like if they can give you a five, it's like, my God, how did
- 38:38this happen? What a hero.
- 38:39It's like it didn't used to be that way.
- 38:41And I'm not. I'm not here to say like, well,
- 38:43back in my day, but like, let's just take a look around and and
- 38:47acknowledge that a guy like Ivaldi, who can give you 6/7,
- 38:52maybe even 8, if you let him go long enough in the postseason,
- 38:55he can do that. And I'm just glad that a team,
- 38:58like I said, a team like the Rangers, did what they did.
- 39:00And you can go further into, like you talked about
- 39:03development and scouting and when you're talking about like
- 39:06big pieces of a homegrown Jonah Heim and a homegrown Josh Young
- 39:12and then just like a combination of that with smart free agent
- 39:17moves with smart trades. You know, Evan Carter.
- 39:23I like, just like the the understanding that and Evan
- 39:28Carter being being fresh out of. And I mean sports, same thing
- 39:33fresh out of the minor leagues. And to be able to step in into a
- 39:36big role in the postseason because he need it.
- 39:39They just had like the perfect construction of all these
- 39:44things. It's a really, really job well
- 39:46done. And you're right, this is the
- 39:49model. This is what you have to follow.
- 39:53You can't just buy, You can't just grow.
- 39:57You can't just analyze your way through this.
- 40:00You need a combination of all things and that's what you saw
- 40:04out of this team and it was a really good team that maybe hit
- 40:09a pretty big skid mark in the second-half of the year but
- 40:14decided to turn it on and got hot.
- 40:16So we're it's not just a a lucky team that got hot at the right
- 40:20time. This is a good team that had
- 40:22adversity that then got hot at the right time and had the depth
- 40:27to carry it. Texas Rangers, I applaud you
- 40:32head to toe the entire organization.
- 40:35It's a job well done. I mean, people forget this was a
- 40:40team that I don't have an exact date, but what was it like
- 40:45halfway through the year? We're talking about a runaway
- 40:49Pennant winner, yeah. And then like you said, they hit
- 40:52a law because you remember, you go back to the first month of
- 40:55season we're talking, we're talking this way about the Rays.
- 41:00And then as as the law of averages would have it, they
- 41:02fizzle out. They kind of come back down to
- 41:04earth. But the Rangers just stayed
- 41:06steady and just kept getting better.
- 41:09Kept playing good ball, added pieces when they needed to.
- 41:13Brought guys in for the right opportunities to get them ready
- 41:16for this, this time of year. It's just it's it's a beautiful
- 41:24thing. It to see, to see over the
- 41:28course of a 162. We all know that this is a long,
- 41:33long year. You even texted me tonight
- 41:36before the game even ended. You're like, dude, I'm I'm, I'm
- 41:41done. And I and I said the same thing.
- 41:43I'm like, I get it, dude. Like I for our sakes, I hope the
- 41:48Rangers. I'm I'm I'm thinking to myself I
- 41:51hope for our sakes of Rangers and this tonight because I just
- 41:54it would be just a nice way to put a bow on it.
- 41:56We don't have to sit through another another travel day we
- 41:59can just wrap this thing up because we know this is where
- 42:01this is headed. Like this was going to be a
- 42:04Rangers win. We as talking about the the
- 42:08series as a whole. We didn't need to push this to
- 42:116/7, it was just. It was just nice to see a team,
- 42:17like we said, develop, make additions and take their lumps
- 42:26over the course of a 162 and like it.
- 42:29Like I was talking about Ivaldi. The team as a whole, they bent
- 42:34but they didn't break and here we are.
- 42:42Super impressive, dude. Super, super impressive.
- 42:46Speaking about a lull, let's we don't have to end on a negative
- 42:55note, but let's just address the elephant in the room here.
- 42:58We you kind of alluded to it a little bit.
- 43:01The ratings surrounding this World Series, they came out
- 43:07after game one and said that it was the the lowest.
- 43:13Or the the least watched game one I think ever.
- 43:18Is that what they said? Ever?
- 43:19I saw two and three as well, so. Right.
- 43:22And then as the as the series went on we go, we we come to
- 43:26find out that oh this is just the least watched World Series
- 43:29of all time. And it's hard to imagine because
- 43:32like, I think the worst World Series was that 05 World Series
- 43:39White Sox. White Sox?
- 43:40Yeah, Astros are still in the NL.
- 43:43It was horrendous. It was a horrible.
- 43:46Yeah, but yeah, you also have to think about and and people.
- 43:49People forget about this when when talking about it in today's
- 43:52game. You didn't have the same number
- 43:56of entertainment outlets back in 2005 as you do now.
- 44:00Like people, You really got a. You really got to fight for the
- 44:04viewers attention, yeah? Or the consumer as a whole,
- 44:12because they may not even be watching something necessarily.
- 44:14They they, they may be out doing something that's not.
- 44:17It's not just the assumption that everybody's watching their
- 44:20TV on our Friday night now like people are.
- 44:22They're out doing stuff. Here's my beautiful argument.
- 44:25I'm going to. Here's my silver lining.
- 44:27I'm going to. Save this episode.
- 44:28Are you ready? I'm going to save us from this
- 44:30negativity. Let's hear it.
- 44:34Baseball can't push teams into the playoffs the way the NFL
- 44:39does. You have to play.
- 44:43You have to throw. You got to hit.
- 44:46Don't have any penalties to keep Taylor Swift showing up to
- 44:51games. That's right.
- 44:55I said it. You can't script baseball, baby.
- 45:00That's why we're untouchable. That's why we're untouchable.
- 45:05Everyone says the NFL is the best sport in the world, and
- 45:09everyone says that football saves all.
- 45:13Well, guess what? Not anymore.
- 45:17Not anymore. You've been you've been hacked.
- 45:20You've been hacked. Let's be real.
- 45:22You've been hacked. Hacked by the Worst Generation
- 45:26and I don't care. I don't care about your viewers.
- 45:29I don't care about how many viewers you do.
- 45:31You have and we don't. I don't care.
- 45:34At least our games are legit and this proves that.
- 45:38Two unlikely teams with pretty small fan bases compared to
- 45:44other places. We're not fixed.
- 45:49There ain't no script here, baby.
- 45:52How's that for a silver lining? Suck at NBA?
- 45:57Suck at NFL credit to you. Credit to you.
- 46:00But the fact remains that. Like how?
- 46:05Like how is the OR the question I should I should say The
- 46:08question remains how is this the like?
- 46:13I get it, but I don't. I don't get it.
- 46:16Because I get it. There's got to be a way that
- 46:18they can't count viewers. There has to be a way of that.
- 46:21I'm logged into like 14 different TV's with my YouTube
- 46:25TV account, so I probably just count as one.
- 46:28And I'm going to say that I'm not the only one that's playing
- 46:31that game, so. Well, you got the other people.
- 46:36What is it? What's that thing?
- 46:40I don't, I don't necessarily use them, but I hear about them all
- 46:42the time. Is it the VPNs or something?
- 46:44Yeah, yeah, they got like the yeah, the jail, the jailbreak.
- 46:48Yeah, like weird stuff like that.
- 46:49I don't. I don't know what all goes into
- 46:51that. But yeah, shut up like I was.
- 46:53Shut up. Mom and Rob, they're, they're
- 46:55Rob. They're down the jailbreak.
- 46:57Yeah. Holding it down, it got the
- 46:59little buffer, little spinning wheel every, every fourth pitch.
- 47:04No. But like I said, I I get it
- 47:08based on the two teams that went up against one another in this
- 47:12thing. Sure.
- 47:14I get it. Based on the point I just made
- 47:17about there being entertainment outlets outside of sports, even
- 47:23that other You're losing that attention.
- 47:27You're losing that, that that piece of the pie, Yeah.
- 47:31Compared to a World Series like 2005.
- 47:34But on the flip side, I even with that, I just don't get it
- 47:39dude. I think we also got to argue
- 47:40like, I it's it's time to open up the rights.
- 47:45How many people don't have, how many people just have like
- 47:48Netflix and Amazon. How many people don't have
- 47:51cable? How many people don't have
- 47:53access to Fox. So I I think that has to change
- 47:58too. I'm not.
- 47:58I'm not going to sit here and blame baseball for the lack of
- 48:01viewers. I'm not going to sit here and
- 48:02blame the match up either. I'm going to blame just the way
- 48:06society is now and it's fine by me.
- 48:10You can throw all these stats at me of how games were quicker and
- 48:13attendance was up and overall, we're having new fans watch the
- 48:18game. I don't care.
- 48:20I don't care. It doesn't matter.
- 48:22I'm not going anywhere. You're not going anywhere.
- 48:24No one listening to this is going anywhere.
- 48:26True baseball fans will watch. True baseball fans will show up.
- 48:30Your baseball fans will find a way to see it.
- 48:33So I don't. I don't look too much into the
- 48:37viewership. I'm not too worried about it.
- 48:40Yeah, I mean the reality of it is, is like you, and this may
- 48:45not make sense to to most people, but in my head it makes
- 48:49sense. And hopefully you agree you're
- 48:51you're not going to grow the game in October.
- 48:55No, you grow the game in the 162, yeah.
- 48:59Leading up to the postseason, because you have all 30 teams
- 49:03playing, you have every one of your superstars that are
- 49:07healthy, obviously contributing to the movement, to the growth,
- 49:11to the viewership, because they're out there doing their
- 49:15thing six days out of the week. October is.
- 49:23Honestly, just at the end of the day, A roll of the dice.
- 49:26If you're in Major League Baseball's front office, it's
- 49:29really just A roll of the dice and saying we did what we
- 49:33thought was best for this game and the growth of it March
- 49:39through September. Now you just kind of at this
- 49:42point you have to roll the dice and hope that you get a show.
- 49:45Hey in there somehow that you get.
- 49:48You get the Yankees. You get an exciting team like
- 49:51the Phillies in there to to draw these bigger markets in to
- 49:56create moments like a a Bryce Harper bat flip stare down
- 50:01something like that to then you can build to to then, which you
- 50:04can build off of in October. But if you if, if you roll the
- 50:09dice and you come up with Texas and Arizona.
- 50:14You're at the mercy of the way that the games go, because you
- 50:17can't bank on there being any star power.
- 50:20You can't bank on there being any electrifying moments.
- 50:24There could be and there were at times.
- 50:26But you can't bank on that. And I I know viewership's down,
- 50:28but I'm going to, I'm going to be honest with you and say just
- 50:31like being at the office and and Co workers that just don't know
- 50:34baseball are talking about it or or watching, you know, And yeah,
- 50:40Phoenix size wise, I think it's a pretty good sized city.
- 50:44But there's no real Diamondbacks fans outside of Arizona.
- 50:48So you know, you're not getting a huge fan base, but you are
- 50:52getting new fans. I think there were, there were
- 50:55new fans, people that were asking about it and intrigued by
- 50:59and probably learning new names and seeing guys for the first
- 51:03time. Is this the first time you know
- 51:05them watching their team? So I'm not at all shook by the
- 51:10viewership. I'm just, I think like you, like
- 51:13our negativity was in the beginning.
- 51:14It was just it was the match up and you know, it was a nice
- 51:19story of what the Diamondbacks were doing.
- 51:23It's just there were better teams in the postseason that
- 51:29that kind of didn't get here. I would have been absolutely
- 51:37fine with Phillies. Rangers, That would have been
- 51:40ecstatic, would have been a heck of a World Series and probably a
- 51:45like a somewhat predictable World Series at certain points,
- 51:52like choosing that match up anyway.
- 51:53But I don't know. Right.
- 51:56I mean, look the I put out that graphic today.
- 52:01The Rangers path to a World Series title.
- 52:04You open up the wild card series against the 99 win Rays.
- 52:09You advance to the ALDS, which we were at.
- 52:11We witnessed. It wasn't pretty for the O's 101
- 52:16win. O's team, the ALDSAL CSA90 win,
- 52:22but seasoned and at many times successful in the postseason.
- 52:28Astros historic in the postseason.
- 52:32And then you match up against the 84 Win D backs and not to
- 52:38beat a dead horse, but like I I get it.
- 52:40That's the, that's the beauty of baseball is you can have a team.
- 52:45At least with the way that the current postseason is
- 52:48structured, you can have a team like the 84 Win D backs Make it
- 52:53in. You said it yourself.
- 52:55You have to play the games, you have to throw, you have to hit
- 52:58and they did that. They did it enough to get to
- 53:01this point in the season. But we we going back to not
- 53:07being surprised. Like you can't be surprised when
- 53:12the when the numbers come in, when the reports come in and say
- 53:16literally nobody's watching this World Series.
- 53:18We we just can't be surprised and we can't be naive to to.
- 53:25Like, try to fight it either. Like I saw so many people trying
- 53:30to defend the World Series. I'm like, let's just, let's
- 53:33let's call a spade a spade. This is not from an
- 53:37entertainment perspective. It's just not an entertaining
- 53:41World Series. It's not an entertaining match
- 53:43up like there's 00 bad blood between these two teams.
- 53:48I don't care what what narrative Fox Sports tries to build for
- 53:51me, right? You have a couple, a couple
- 53:54stars on a few stars on each team.
- 53:57Some more than others obviously. But All in all like this wasn't
- 54:00these weren't just like star-studded like woah man like
- 54:05you just you weren't getting that.
- 54:08You had some guy show out of course Corey Seeger Dulles
- 54:11Garcia guys like that. But like it's the Rangers and D
- 54:17backs like and and I go back to my my initial comment to open
- 54:21open things up like this was. All but gift wrapped for the
- 54:25Rangers I think if we're being honest looking back pretty much
- 54:29it just it seemed like it was a sure thing and I'm and I'm not
- 54:35going to sit here and say like that this somehow means less to
- 54:40the to the Rangers now like no, they're they they earned this
- 54:45thing. They they they rolled this year.
- 54:48I mean, they sure. I don't think it mattered.
- 54:50I don't think it mattered who they were going to face.
- 54:53I really didn't like offensively.
- 54:54It's just it's insane what they did.
- 54:59Absolutely insane. I'll just say this to to kind of
- 55:02put a bow on this element of the conversation while it while it
- 55:08had its moments this last week, this World Series just did not
- 55:14quite scratch the itch. Yeah, I I don't feel satisfied
- 55:19finishing the season this way. I'll say that.
- 55:24I'll say that. I would go ahead.
- 55:30I was just going to say I would honestly love to get a a Rangers
- 55:34fans take on this World Series. Like sure they're they're on
- 55:36Cloud 9 right now. Like just won the World Series.
- 55:39Put that aside and I just, I would love to know like their
- 55:44thought, like what their thoughts were.
- 55:47Like their perspective on this World Series, Like were they?
- 55:50Were they on the edge of their seat?
- 55:52Were they somewhat disappointed at the prospect of the
- 55:57entertainment value that would come from a matchup against the
- 56:00D backs, like where they may be hoping for somebody else?
- 56:03I I would just love to hear like, what's going through their
- 56:06minds, 'cause I I don't. It's just, it's so it's all just
- 56:10so random. I don't know.
- 56:11It's very random. Sorry.
- 56:13What were you going to say? Go ahead.
- 56:14I was going to say what what's more impressive, you predicting
- 56:18the outcome in games or me predicting the MVP?
- 56:29That's a close one. That's close.
- 56:33I mean, can I? I I know I'm going to sound
- 56:35extremely biased here, but I think, I genuinely think that
- 56:40games is the harder part of it. Especially I don't know, I, I I
- 56:46know people probably listen to this and go and.
- 56:49Like, which is it Kyle? Was it a shoo in for the Rangers
- 56:52or was this going 7? Because you can't really seem to
- 56:54make up your mind. But like I said, I had to choose
- 56:59five games before the series started.
- 57:00But after two games it's knotted up at 1 apiece and you're going
- 57:05crap, man. Both teams seem like they're
- 57:07playing their brand of baseball and they're doing it well.
- 57:09Like this very well could go six or seven.
- 57:14And then the Rangers, like, no, no, no, no.
- 57:15Like, we're going to put an end to that narrative real quick.
- 57:17We're going to play our brand of baseball and we're going to
- 57:19disrupt their brand of baseball, and we're going to walk to this
- 57:22in five. I feel like the games might be a
- 57:27little tougher, but like I said, it's it's either going to be
- 57:31the. It's either going to be an easy
- 57:33pick or just the most random Joe Blow like it's going to be a
- 57:37Steve Pierce 20, 18 scenario. I I agree you're probably.
- 57:42Right. So it's it's honestly kind of
- 57:44like a flip of the coin, but I think if credit stayed healthy,
- 57:47he probably would have taken it. I mean, that's baseball, though,
- 57:51man. Credit to you for for correctly
- 57:54picking it. It just seemed too easy.
- 57:56I'm like there's no sometimes it is the obvious one.
- 58:00That's what I'm saying. It's like, I can't go seeker,
- 58:02dude. There's no way he continues to
- 58:04just dominate. And what does he go out and do?
- 58:06What a stud, man. What a freaking stud.
- 58:08I'm so, so jealous. What?
- 58:12What was the stat we found before we hopped on the first, I
- 58:18think the first player to win M World Series MVP in both the
- 58:21leagues. Like ever.
- 58:23Yes, Second one to win multiple Reggie Jackson.
- 58:31And Reggie Jackson did it with the A's and the Yankees, both
- 58:35AL. So you're obviously doing it in
- 58:39both in two different teams. Those are only two guys.
- 58:41So super impressive. Super, super impressive.
- 58:45What a stud, man. Not to not to rehash this, I
- 58:51know we just put a bow on this, but you mentioned.
- 58:54Seeger's prior World Series and it made me think when I was
- 58:58looking at the results or like the data of the viewership, the
- 59:04viewership was higher during COVID.
- 59:07In a COVID 2020 season where people were literally like
- 59:12nothing in life matters anymore. But I guess I'll flip on a
- 59:16baseball game. And that had higher viewership.
- 59:22Then a completely normal season are completely revamped with the
- 59:28rules type season. Exciting narratives.
- 59:32Here's a here's maybe one of the factors here.
- 59:35Here's a factor 2 warm states. I watch the weather.
- 59:41Really bothers you, doesn't it? No, no, no.
- 59:43I'm not saying a bad thing. I'm saying a good way.
- 59:45Well, a reason for the viewers or lack of viewers, I think it's
- 59:50because two warm states, I watch one of the game on an outdoor
- 59:54bar with 300 people watching one screen that only counts as one.
- 1:00:00So I there's a lot of that and you're having that both in Texas
- 1:00:04and Arizona, people going out watching it together at bars and
- 1:00:10stuff like that and so. Yeah, but like, I couldn't make
- 1:00:14the argument that the bars inside and colder cities would
- 1:00:18have the same effect. No, because you only have so
- 1:00:21much space. Outdoor bar.
- 1:00:23This place was huge. It was an entire turf area, all
- 1:00:26with just hundreds of people. Yeah, but like, we just got
- 1:00:29done. I feel like we're running
- 1:00:30ourselves in circles here because we just got done talking
- 1:00:33about how there's no D backs fans.
- 1:00:34So, like, yeah, maybe. You know, the people were
- 1:00:36watching though. People were, it was for sure,
- 1:00:40happening around here, just like baseball fans in general.
- 1:00:43Maybe not. Like, yes, kind of.
- 1:00:46It's not like they were specifically Diamondbacks fans
- 1:00:48or they were that hard that like that die hard of fans.
- 1:00:53But they were watching and there were people here talking about
- 1:00:55it and there were people here going there, bunch of people
- 1:00:57asking me if I was going to go. So it was there was a buzz
- 1:01:02around here for sure. There was definitely a buzz.
- 1:01:04It's just like I said, it's just more people being out doing
- 1:01:10their own thing. I think cold weather states.
- 1:01:13You stay at home because it's all snowy and cold and you're
- 1:01:17not going to go sit in some sticky, stinky, tight little bar
- 1:01:23out here. It's spacious.
- 1:01:24Man, we got a lot of outdoor bars.
- 1:01:29That's my argument. I'm dying on that hill.
- 1:01:31That's fair. But to that point there, there's
- 1:01:36a lot of cold weather City fans that I don't care how cold it is
- 1:01:41outside, they're, they're passionate fan Northeast fans.
- 1:01:46Yeah, yeah. But like, look at all those fans
- 1:01:48that were sitting outside of the the the Plaza in Arlington.
- 1:01:53You know, all those people watching one screen.
- 1:01:58I don't know how we count those viewers.
- 1:02:01No, I'm with you. I'm with you on that.
- 1:02:02Sorry. I I guess, if I haven't made it
- 1:02:04clear already, I feel like my my my disapproval falls solely on
- 1:02:12the D backs fans, or lack thereof, like.
- 1:02:15Pretty much there's nobody, There's no die hards here.
- 1:02:18Yeah, even even today, people are walking around like, it
- 1:02:20would have been nice to win this thing.
- 1:02:22And I'm like, all right, hang on.
- 1:02:23Like it's not, not done. Done yet.
- 1:02:26Hold on, pump the brakes. Yeah, no, I get it.
- 1:02:31I get it. People moving.
- 1:02:32On to the Suns over here, because the Cardinals aren't
- 1:02:36worth a damn. So Speaking of which, I didn't
- 1:02:40realize Grayson Allen was on the Suns now.
- 1:02:42Yeah. Yeah, shout out Duke.
- 1:02:46Yeah, I'm not a fan personally, but hey, hey, he's he's come
- 1:02:51around, he's come. People just have blind, blind
- 1:02:55hatred towards that guy. He's a little dirty.
- 1:02:58A little dirty, he. He's grown.
- 1:02:59We've all grown. I I think most of us said.
- 1:03:02Most of us. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:03:05He's the sun, though. He did the sun.
- 1:03:08Game one, it's not a Grace Allen podcast by any means, but I
- 1:03:15mean, it's fitting. We talk about the Suns because
- 1:03:18yeah, you can only talk about the D back so much because it's
- 1:03:22the D backs. No, but like, I don't want, I
- 1:03:25don't want to harp on them too much like credit to them.
- 1:03:27Like I said, they did what they had to do to get here.
- 1:03:30It was a it was a great story bright future.
- 1:03:34I I would be a hypocrite to sit here and like just talk all this
- 1:03:40noise on them. When I was the one of the two of
- 1:03:43us, I was probably more excited about the D backs coming into
- 1:03:46the season. Probably like a little bit in
- 1:03:49error, like I don't know if I should have been as excited
- 1:03:52about the D backs. I think it was, Yeah, it was the
- 1:03:54start to year a little. Blind, but yeah, a little bit of
- 1:03:58a little bit of chase. What is it by Oh, that's just
- 1:04:01mean to say a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a
- 1:04:04while. I don't think we can call it the
- 1:04:06Diamondbacks. Yeah, Squirrel, but there that
- 1:04:08was a. Maybe you it was a good team
- 1:04:10call. You a blind squirrel?
- 1:04:11That's true, yeah. I mean, although credits to me
- 1:04:16and I've got the receipts two years in a row now, I've
- 1:04:20correctly picked why are there balloons going off?
- 1:04:25What was that? Did you press that?
- 1:04:28Your hands are They weren't even near the computer.
- 1:04:31What was that? Where did those balloons come
- 1:04:35from? Does it know?
- 1:04:36It must know? We're recording Episode 400.
- 1:04:39It must know it. For those who aren't already get
- 1:04:43on YouTube. It's way better.
- 1:04:45That was so weird. What?
- 1:04:47Was that? I don't know.
- 1:04:48It's cool. Well, OK, let me let me retrace
- 1:04:52my steps. What did I say?
- 1:04:53I said Credit to me. Two years in a row doing
- 1:04:56something. Credit to me.
- 1:05:00I kind of want to get the balloons up again.
- 1:05:02That was cool. I don't know what I said to
- 1:05:03trigger that. I don't know.
- 1:05:04You said 2. Congratulations.
- 1:05:06Balloons. Two years in a row?
- 1:05:08Birthday balloons. I don't know.
- 1:05:12I don't. Know I don't credit.
- 1:05:15No. But two years in a row now I've
- 1:05:20correctly. There it is again.
- 1:05:23Whoa, what am I saying? Say two years in a row. 2 years
- 1:05:30in a row. There it is.
- 1:05:36What a random trigger, dude. Imagine you're sitting on like a
- 1:05:40job interview. Right now, say 50 years in a
- 1:05:43row, 50 years in a row. 1,000,000 years in a row?
- 1:05:52No balloons. It's only for two Imagine you're
- 1:05:55doing, like, a job interview on this thing.
- 1:05:57Like, yeah, you know, I I was at my last job for two years in a
- 1:06:00row. Balloons.
- 1:06:02What? Let me finish my point.
- 1:06:06Balloons. Last year, I said I was feeling
- 1:06:13the Phillies in spring training. That's true.
- 1:06:16They go on to the World Series this year.
- 1:06:18Take a little trip out to Chase Field get a little bit of the
- 1:06:22Phoenix vibes. I'm like you know what I kind of
- 1:06:24I'm kind of digging the D backs. You even said we I've mentioned
- 1:06:27before just this random D back club out of nowhere.
- 1:06:31Well, I must have been on to something so don't come to me if
- 1:06:35if you're looking for a National League pick to win the World
- 1:06:38Series, I'll give you I'll give you the National League pick to
- 1:06:41to get there. Just we'll we'll talk next
- 1:06:44March. Two years in a row.
- 1:06:46Two years in a row. I I don't get it.
- 1:06:51I don't get it. I don't know where these random
- 1:06:52balloons are coming from. I want them back.
- 1:06:54I want them back. Back-to-back years.
- 1:06:59Nothing. Correctly picked two years in a
- 1:07:02row. Still nothing.
- 1:07:06Nothing. That's weird.
- 1:07:07Something's going on anyway. Any other thoughts on this whole
- 1:07:15thing? I mean, we're you and I were
- 1:07:18talking. I don't really know like what
- 1:07:20the next few weeks are going to look like for us.
- 1:07:23We this is now our 191920212223. This is our 6th postseason doing
- 1:07:30this and I still can't remember how we go about the week.
- 1:07:36The two weeks immediately following the World Series, I
- 1:07:39don't know if we record, if we don't record.
- 1:07:42I don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, so I we'll
- 1:07:45probably take a little bit of a breather.
- 1:07:50But where I was going with that is we'll do like a a more kind
- 1:07:54of like wrapping this whole season up thing.
- 1:07:58Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:07:59We'll have a big, we'll have a big recap.
- 1:08:01Yeah, we still have award season and all that coming up, which
- 1:08:05obviously will be based on the happenings of this year.
- 1:08:10So we're not, we're not completely done with 2023 yet,
- 1:08:12but I think for at least a little while we're maybe taking
- 1:08:16a little bit of a breather, we got you to the finish line.
- 1:08:21But All in all, any other? Any other takeaways from from
- 1:08:25this series? No.
- 1:08:30I think we dude, the game ended an hour and a half ago and we're
- 1:08:37just now getting to Tory Lavallo.
- 1:08:41I thought I saw that before. Am I behind?
- 1:08:46I thought I saw it before, but I could be wrong.
- 1:08:48I don't know. Is it a different press
- 1:08:49conference? Maybe it's just like a replay of
- 1:08:51the press conference, Tom Ferducci in the tunnel.
- 1:08:56No, he was sitting down for a presser, I think.
- 1:09:00I think he was little. He's.
- 1:09:01A little teary eyed. This is Varducci in the.
- 1:09:05I hate Varducci. Dude.
- 1:09:06Down underneath genuinely can't stand that guy.
- 1:09:10This is Weenie. Quite.
- 1:09:12This is quite the extensive post game coverage, man.
- 1:09:15The game ended an hour and a half ago and the man's still in
- 1:09:18his uniform. He's.
- 1:09:21Gonna sleep in it. I mean, I would.
- 1:09:24Well, maybe not if you. Lose.
- 1:09:26I don't know if I'm sleeping, dude.
- 1:09:27I don't know if I'm sleeping after this.
- 1:09:30It's a tough L It's a tough couple.
- 1:09:32LS. I mean, at least you're home.
- 1:09:36At least you don't get. To fly back, true.
- 1:09:39Also on that note, can we please just have a team win it at home
- 1:09:47one of these times? Come on SO.
- 1:09:51Much better. It's so much more fun, such a
- 1:09:55vibe when that happens. When was the last one was it?
- 1:10:00I mean, the last one I remember is the 13 Red Sox, but surely
- 1:10:04it's happened at least once in the last decade.
- 1:10:06Has to have happened. All right, let's go year by year
- 1:10:12here. 1414, what's the Giants that was in?
- 1:10:20No, that was in Kansas City, I thought.
- 1:10:27You're right, I remembering a double down the line.
- 1:10:31I don't know why from or from who.
- 1:10:34Let's say like a Brandon Crawford double down the line.
- 1:10:37The left field line at Kaufman, 15, was the Royals and Mets.
- 1:10:48Yeah, 16 was Cubs in Cleveland. Cleveland. 17 was Houston in LA.
- 1:10:5818 was Boston in LA, 19 Nationals in Houston, 20 COVID.
- 1:11:06Year in Globe, Globe, Life for the Dodgers, 21 Braves in
- 1:11:17Houston. Jorge Solaire, 2022 Houston and
- 1:11:23Philly My God, it was the Red Sox in 13.
- 1:11:27No way, dude. We just went year by year.
- 1:11:32I don't know if you're completely accurate on all of
- 1:11:34it, although super impressive to be able to match those teams up.
- 1:11:44Yeah, Giants in Kansas City in 14.
- 1:11:46Royals on the road in New York in 15, right?
- 1:11:59The 15 was the only. One that was kind of
- 1:12:01questionable that was that was in New York, I think.
- 1:12:04Yeah or no. Why?
- 1:12:07Is it the Royals? No.
- 1:12:09Yeah, it was in New York. Yeah.
- 1:12:10Yeah. OK.
- 1:12:11Anyway, yeah, let's just get it back at home, please.
- 1:12:14Like, it's just not that you're going to grow the game based on
- 1:12:19where the celebration happens, but like, it's just a nice
- 1:12:22little cherry on top for us diehards that sit here and
- 1:12:25watch, watch teams that we don't otherwise really care all that
- 1:12:29much about. Like to see a a lit up fan base
- 1:12:31with it? Yeah, Dick, come on.
- 1:12:33Showing the showing them, watching the big screen back
- 1:12:36home doesn't hit the same way, although I'm sure it should be
- 1:12:42sweet to be there. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:48Good stuff. Good stuff, my friend.
- 1:12:52This is unless you got anything else.
- 1:12:54This brings us to the completion of Episode #400.
- 1:13:00Tip of the cap to you, pal. I think you you got a We need a
- 1:13:06big round of applause to my guy. You put a lot of hard work into
- 1:13:09this, man. You put a lot of time and effort
- 1:13:11into this. And 400 of these bad boys, man
- 1:13:16400. Well, believe me, pal, I don't
- 1:13:22know how you do it. This thing would have died a
- 1:13:24long time ago. It was.
- 1:13:26It was just, well, I was just about to say, believe me, I've
- 1:13:28said it before. I'll say it again.
- 1:13:29You go back, listen to episode one.
- 1:13:31I don't think many people would have enjoyed 400 episodes of
- 1:13:35that of me talking to myself. So just as much, if not more
- 1:13:40credit to you for giving me somebody to talk to 'cause
- 1:13:45otherwise this thing truly would have died a long time ago.
- 1:13:50Nobody would have want to listen to that.
- 1:13:52But I love that we were able to wrap up the year with 400.
- 1:13:56The timing was. Just it's good, sane.
- 1:14:00It's it's fitting. Nice way to to go into the

- 1:14:45get a little crazy. Yeah, we get weird.
- 1:14:48It gets weird. I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:14:51We got some stuff cooking up. You know I've I've been thinking
- 1:14:54a lot about it. I feel like we had kind of
- 1:14:58shield away, not for any particular reason from from the
- 1:15:02interview game, but I feel like we got a couple guys that.
- 1:15:07I think we can line up real real easily.
- 1:15:11I don't know. Longo likes quite a bit of our
- 1:15:12posts. I've seen his name quite a few
- 1:15:15times. Maybe we give him a little time
- 1:15:17to recover, but been in been in touch over the year last year or
- 1:15:22two with Bryson Stott, Philly second baseman, and my guy Josh
- 1:15:27Spores closing, closing down the series here.
- 1:15:30Maybe we get him on. That'd be a heck of an
- 1:15:32experience to relive. Yeah.
- 1:15:37We we I mean even that's just the first few guys that come to
- 1:15:40mind but we'll we'll get some more we we might tap into the
