- 2:39Good morning, how are you? Good morning? I am great.
- 2:43I know you're great. I know you're great. Now this lovely voice that
- 2:46you've heard over the last several months here that you actually hear one of the
- 2:52commercial dream this show you're with a company called DC Elevators. We're gonna talk
- 2:54about that a little bit later on. But you're not only the voice.
- 2:58You're one of the big brass there, right, You're one of the one
- 3:00of the head honchos there right. That's what they tell me for West virgin
- 3:04y'all trying to do a little thing. Well, you're awesome. You're awesome
- 3:06what you do. We'll get back to talking to Kathy about the crazy world
- 3:08of elevators and more a little bit. Plus, we got ten questions,
- 3:13got ten questions? You about ten questions? Covering up a little bit later
- 3:15on as well. Let's bring in a good friend, Hannah Gardener from the
- 3:17Canal Charles Do main association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week.
- 3:22Hannah. How are you, dear? I'm good? How are you?
- 3:24I'm doing fine, Hannah? Kathy, Kathy, Hannah, always have
- 3:28to make the introduction, so you two make nice with each other and say
- 3:30hello to each other. Hi, miss Hannah, how are you? I'm
- 3:34great? How are you wonderful? All right, now, we got that
- 3:37out of the way, okay. Pictures posted Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and
- 3:39at Dave A seventy on Twitter. Let's talk about Snuggie. Hannah tell us
- 3:45the story of Snuggie. Okay, well, I have a little attachment to
- 3:51snugg yet I love Nike, so I'm trying to find her a home.
- 3:54She's three years old and she came in as straight to us. She has
- 4:00been adopted before, but she did come back. She's a very very loyal
- 4:08little thing. Whenever she gets into a home and she gets into a routine,
- 4:13and she knows what's going on, and she trusts you after a couple
- 4:16of weeks, you know, being with you and stuff. It takes her
- 4:18a while, but she is very, very sweet once she gets used to
- 4:24you. She is up to date on her vaccines. She's already six.
- 4:29She can be pretty headshot. So that's why I do say that you would
- 4:33need to go slower with her. She needs someone who understands her boundaries,
- 4:39understands that, you know. She doesn't need someone who's like full force ready
- 4:44to go, because she needs to take life a little bit slower than that.
- 4:49She's only about thirteen pounds, so she's a little thing. She does
- 4:53best with calmer dogs, calmer environments, maybe even better with like smaller calmer
- 4:59dogs. Just a really good, calm, calm dog was what she would
- 5:03like. I don't think she would mind to have a sibling, just as
- 5:05long as they are calm now sibling as in human siblings. She would probably
- 5:12do better with older kids in a home just because of how I said.
- 5:15She needs someone to respect her boundaries, and I mean, if you feel
- 5:18like your younger kid can do that, then I think it would be a
- 5:23great fit. However, if that kid wants to run around, I know
- 5:27chids full kids like to play stuff like that, So she prefers more of
- 5:30an older house environment. But she's very, very sweet. She needs a
- 5:35good home and she is a great girl. She loves sleeping at the bottom
- 5:40of the bed. Oh and she has successfully lived with a cat and a
- 5:45house before, so she didn't bother it. She didn't even really pay attention
- 5:48to it. She just kind of would notice it and like look away,
- 5:51So she didn't seem to care much about that at all. The only reason
- 5:56that she was brought back was because a new person had entered home that she
- 6:00didn't know that she wasn't used to, and they were moving at a really
- 6:04fast pace trying to grab their stuff. And I think that she maybe snapped
- 6:09at them because she was scared. Maybe she did like buy them, but
- 6:13it didn't like break this in or anything like that. However, Um,
- 6:16that is just because they didn't know. We didn't even know that she needed
- 6:20to super super slow. So we all live, we all learned. So
- 6:25she just needs someone who she can't understand those boundaries. She's such a cutie
- 6:30though. Her eyes are so beautiful. It's like she's looking right into your
- 6:34soul. Yes, and she does, and whenever you whenever she gets used
- 6:40to you, like I've spent a couple of weeks with her now, um
- 6:44and a few other employees as well, and she she gets to know you,
- 6:48and once she gets to know you, she is excited for you to
- 6:51tell ut arcade. She's excited because she just needs that patience. She needs
- 6:56someone who can understand that she just needs to get you, see you see
- 7:00to understands before she fully opened up to you, but once she opened up.
- 7:04She is a sweet, sweet girl. And the reason why I have
- 7:09such an attachment to her is because well once she's so sweet, but too.
- 7:13She was flum very close to the same area that one of my dogs
- 7:17was found, and they looked like swinned. They look really well. Snuggie
- 7:24is a beautiful dog. And again, and I'm gonna go ahead and call
- 7:26somebody out on this because you know, Hannah and Kathy every week I post
- 7:30a picture of her adopt me please petted the week on my Facebook page day
- 7:32Allen Radio and also on at dave a sebody on Twitter, uh and uh,
- 7:36and Laurie Kersey comment. I'm gonna call her out because Lorie Kersey commented
- 7:41on my Twitter page and she said I didn't know something like I didn't know
- 7:45I needed Snuggie until now. So Laurie is on the clock now, Hannah
- 7:48to come and get Snuggie right, all right, Well we'll listen for that
- 7:53name, all right, all right, so we'll recap by Snuggie here to
- 7:57keep the Moment's beautiful, beautiful dog and what kind of a dog issue?
- 8:00I mean, I know she's obviously thirteen pounds. She's a little dog.
- 8:03I mean, any idea And Kathy, you're an animal person, aren't you,
- 8:07so any idea either one of you? What kind of dog this is?
- 8:11Um? So I did a DNA put on mine, which, like
- 8:15I said, I can even send you a picture. They are fought on
- 8:18twins. Like, the only thing that's different is Snuggie has a little bit
- 8:20of a wider face. But if they are related in any way whatsoever,
- 8:24or if they are the same, then she would probably be like a taking
- 8:30me should do Pomeranian Chihuahua dogs and mix like something like that and a little
- 8:35bit of pug maybe because that's what mine was. But she does look like
- 8:39she's got a little bit of like puggish looks to her, so maybe some
- 8:43of that well. And it's I mean, like if you're looking for maybe
- 8:46you have a smaller home, you know, and you don't have This is
- 8:50a kind of dog that's, as you said, is gonna you know,
- 8:52it sleeps with you in the bed. It's this kind of dog you're gonna
- 8:54be able to probably take with you different places. I mean, this is
- 8:58that this is that kind of a dog. Hannah. Um, I got
- 9:01a question here for you via the text line, Hannah. Because you're quite
- 9:05popular people, you know, they had their questions lined up for Hannah every
- 9:07Friday. So a question for you from the text line, Hannah. It
- 9:11says, is it okay to put ice water for outside cats? Um?
- 9:16No, you probably shouldn't put ice water out there, it can shock the
- 9:20system, especially if they're overheated. Um all about cold water going into them
- 9:26just automatically can can possibly shock the shock them. And I'm no vet or
- 9:31vet tech, but I've seen that, I have heard that. I was
- 9:33gonna say, just from experience, you kind of you you may not be
- 9:35a veterinarian, but you learned from experience in ordinary the shelter, I would
- 9:39imagine, Yeah, a myst three years, I've learned a lot. Yeah,
- 9:43well, I can see that where it would be a shock to the
- 9:46system. So speaking of the weather, I mean, cats and dogs,
- 9:50Hannah, are are just like us. They struggle. And this is going
- 9:52to be the hottest day of the year. Heat index is like a thousand
- 9:56and twenty one or something today, So if you're going to be taking if
- 10:00you've got number one, if you've got outdoor dogs and cats, you definitely
- 10:03got to take some extra precautions for them, especially in a day like today.
- 10:07Hannah. Yeah, yeah, you definitely want to try to like take
- 10:11your dogs, like if you're a dog walking person, you definitely want to
- 10:15try to do that earlier in the morning or maybe even in the later evening
- 10:18times. When the sun has kind of died off a little bit. And
- 10:24then make sure that whenever you are walking your dog, if you are walking
- 10:26them during the day or something like that, that you're putting your hand for
- 10:31like maybe like ten to fifteen seconds or something on the pavement, to make
- 10:35sure that it's not burning your hand, because if it's burning your hand,
- 10:39it's going to burn the dogs pall pads as well, and those little pads
- 10:41are very very sensitive on dogs and cats a lot more than humans are.
- 10:46There are a lot more humans, so take that under advisement. What else
- 10:48we have going on to shelter Currently until the thirty first, we're still doing
- 10:54our abistle and do the shelter event. I know that we've adopted out like
- 10:58over one hundred dogs with that so far in the month of July that we've
- 11:03had it. I think we started it on the sixth, so of one
- 11:07hundred some dogs that it doesn't feel like it because there's so many dogs out
- 11:11there that we just keep replacing those that we're sending home, so we're still
- 11:13running at max capacity and even after all of that, so we're definitely trying
- 11:18to get more dogs out. That is the adoption event where they are all
- 11:24of our adult dogs and our casting kittens and then some select puppies are twenty
- 11:30five dollars for their adoption feed Bissell has sponsored the rest of it, and
- 11:33then if they are fixed, they can just go home with you. If
- 11:37they are not fixed, they will stay to get fixed. So if we
- 11:41can't get them fixed, we'll definitely put them on the schedule a couple of
- 11:46months out. I don't know that we're pretty booked up, but we definitely
- 11:48want to get those babies out of there and into a home. Indeed,
- 11:52all right, Hannah, As always, it's a pleasure to talk to you.
- 11:56The Bistle event is continuing up there, and let's try to find this
- 11:58lovely dog snuggie at home. I appreciate it. We'll talk to you soon.
- 12:01Thanks a lot, right, thank you, Hannah Garden from the Canal
- 12:05Charles Newman Association with its weeks a doot me please put out the week gather.
- 12:09You're a you're a dog person, right, I am. I didn't
- 12:13think I would be, but I have a German Shepherd and now I have
- 12:16a Yorkie in New Yorkie things. He's a German Shepherd. He identifies as
- 12:22a German shepherd. That's how he identifies. So he's my killer. I
- 12:24mean he will go at your ankles. He's an ankle biter. All right,
- 12:28Well, this would be a great dog for somebody's hand, to say.
- 12:30This dog's only thirteen thirteen pounds, three years old. Caman is a
- 12:35stray, already fixed up to date on vaccine, has done well with cats,
- 12:39would do okay with kids as long as they're calm, and it should
- 12:41be a great small pet. Do you want to, like I said,
- 12:43a dog that you're gonna be able to travel with take with you. You
- 12:48probably sticker in your purse if you wanted to beautiful dog. So go look
- 12:52at the picture. It's at Dave a seventy on Twitter or a Dave Alan

- 16:41Hello, you survived segment one. We're gonna talk. We're gonna get to
- 16:45know Kathy a little bit better. A little bit later on, she's gonna
- 16:48do ten question. Jim Strown is here talking about Live on the Levy Jimbo.
- 16:51Good morning, How are you? I d some microphone here from Jimbo?
- 16:55Yeah, okay, check where we go? Yo? I just said
- 16:57enough about you, Dave. Good morning Kathy. Yes, that's all I
- 17:00said. Is I know beautiful? I love the glasses. Yeah, she's
- 17:03a west Side the best sides. Last graduating class. It's still in walled
- 17:07high school. I really stop seeing my funder. Hey Hannah, Hannah from
- 17:14the Humane Society just sent me a text here and ask me to mention this.
- 17:18If you see stray dogs running around the heat, please bring them in.
- 17:21If you can't, take them some room temperature water and put it on
- 17:23all their paws. Dogs regulate their body temperature through their paw pads. Don't
- 17:30pour water all over the bodies because it can soak more the heat into the
- 17:33water on their body. It makes them even more hot. So there you
- 17:37go. Good, Yeah, get inside. Thank you Hannah for enlightening us
- 17:42even more. I love that segment day. By the way, she's she's
- 17:45fantastic at what she does there. All right, let's talk about Live on
- 17:48the Levee Moses out her Boop Live Levy Season nineteen, week number nine.
- 17:55Okay, okay, okay, number nine. Tonight should be a warm night,
- 17:59but a very entertaining evening down at had at Riverfront Parking. Taking center
- 18:03stage the shom Bomb stage at six thirty, he'll play for an hour.
- 18:07His name is Eric Bolander. Eric is from a very small town in eastern
- 18:11Kentucky called Garrison. Fourteen hundred is the population that's right in the foothills of
- 18:15the Appalanchia on the other side of the Ohio River, and he is a
- 18:18very wonderful storyteller through music, so his lyrics are great. He's got a
- 18:23little slice of Americana with some country, some blue grass, some bluesy,
- 18:27and it goes very nicely with the headliner tonight, which is the Buffalo Wobs
- 18:33and the Price Hill Hustle Buffalo Walt. They're out of Cincinnati, four guys.
- 18:41They describe themselves of sounding a little bit like the old nitty gritty dirt
- 18:45band. Okay, so their country, they're flat footing, they're foot stomping.
- 18:52They're entertaining high energy country, bluesy gospel seats. So it's really should
- 18:56be an entertaining evening fund to dance too. And as you dance and stomp
- 19:00your foot, you might get a little warm, because it's going to be
- 19:03warm down there. But city officials assure me, and they wanted me to
- 19:06let the audience know, we're going to have two cooling miss stations, one
- 19:11by the West Virginia American Water Company, one by our friends at Serve Pro.
- 19:15Two stations up on the boulevard and then down by the show and Bomb
- 19:18stage at the park. They're going to have complimentary little bottles of water.
- 19:22Just come down, help yourself, no charge. The city's just going to
- 19:25say here, stay hydrated. Here, here's some water. So enjoy the
- 19:29music, enjoy the evening, enjoy the nice breeze. I'm praying for the
- 19:33off of the river and it should be nice. Just got to tolerate a
- 19:36little bit of heat. But the music and the entertainment looks like it's going
- 19:40to be just absolutely just like it has been all season. Day right,
- 19:44great. And what you gotta remember when temperatures are like this, and we
- 19:45always talk about having a spirited beverage, soda or whatever. But here's the
- 19:51thing about it is that's not going to hydrate you. One and one.
- 19:53Yeah, you need to have a plenty of water. Nothing hydrates. And
- 19:56we have all these sports drinks, so we have the gatorade and all great,
- 20:00but nothing hydrates you like good old fashioned water too. Oh yep.
- 20:03So that's the rule. One to one, Yeah, one to one.
- 20:07Yeah, have a bottle of water. Yeah, one to one. No
- 20:14straight water. Water to what I say, not what I do, but
- 20:18listen to what I know. Listen to the good chin and water. It's
- 20:21a straight water Cathey, have you been down to the levee this year a
- 20:22couple of times. Oh, absolutely, yeah, you like it. What's
- 20:26your favorite about the levee? Just the openness the people come together again.
- 20:30Yeah, and I think just just the venues and everything. Let me just
- 20:36say everything at the ball of Wax. Yeah, I mean the food,
- 20:37the drinks, the neighborhood, just your neighbors. And my favorite is I've
- 20:42said this over and over. Dave knows this, but I get to stand
- 20:45down there on that stage and I look up and I'm conscious, you're looking
- 20:48for people not having a good time. Haven't found one yet seventeen years,
- 20:52I haven't found I haven't found anybody having a bad time. You're having a
- 20:56good time down there. You are this music and food. What else could
- 20:59you want? Hello? And and what I love about it? Two Kathy
- 21:02and you and I are music people. We had I'll tell you a story
- 21:04about Kathy and I have one of our conversations about music. But it's music
- 21:08of all kinds. And if you don't, maybe this week isn't your cup
- 21:11of tea, Then just as we used to say in church fellowship, one
- 21:15with the other and just have a good time and then and then next week.
- 21:18Chances are it'll be something that you do like. And that's one of
- 21:22the things that you, Jim and the entire the Levy crew do such a
- 21:25good job of, isn't it true? Yeah, it's true. You have
- 21:29to look at it from one hundred thousand feet one foot and like Dave said,
- 21:33if you don't like it this week, just come down for the fellowship,
- 21:34and next week it's going to be your music. I almost can guarantee
- 21:37it. Tonight should be good old fashioned slice of Americano music and you know,
- 21:41stomp your foot and have a good time and high energy and dance.
- 21:45An awesome thing too, is it's all age groups too. It's my daughter.
- 21:49She's like, I'm going down to the level. I'm like, no,
- 21:52really, but it's just really fun time. Now she's eighteen, yeah,
- 21:56teenagers. Yeah, yeah, she's now there pretty much. I don't
- 22:00know if they're down for the music or not. Some of the sixteen seven
- 22:03little girls that I see are they pay attention to the music, But I
- 22:07think they're paying attention to other things other people their age. Yes, but
- 22:11it is fun. I don't care if your two or one hundred two.
- 22:12My line I say it every week and we'll talk closer more as it gets
- 22:17closer to day. But August eighteenth is back to school night. Speaking of
- 22:19kiddos, we are really going to cater to the kids. I can't wait
- 22:22to talk more about August eighteenth, our final Moses Autter group live on the
- 22:26levy of the season. But it's going to be a big shin dick for
- 22:30the kiddos. Well, we should talk later. I'm sorry. There is
- 22:33a lot of steps going down and up, so we should talk about an
- 22:36elevator. We see how you do? You leave that right in there,
- 22:41as only a pro would, I'm gonna go there. She's a great good
- 22:45jobs. Great to see you, Jim. You will see your brother Jim.
- 22:48All right. Appreciate Jim's trying to get live on the levee. I'm

- 23:33I'm against you know my feelings on this. It's Friday, It's Friday fun
- 23:37out, so I'm not going to get into it today, but i will
- 23:41next week. The Women's Health Centers asking for the Charleston City Council to grant
- 23:45them a license to do this. It'll be discussed at their council meeting on
- 23:49August the seventh, and trust me, I'm gonna be talking a lot about
- 23:52this between now and then. Also, Mountain Valley Pipeline is a go and
- 24:00former President Donald Trump is in the news again. Not today, We're not
- 24:02doing it today, Kathy, but we'll pick it up back up. On
- 24:04Monday, I had a quick program. You know, Dave Weekly, who
- 24:07does a hotline for three to six, is off today, so I have
- 24:11been asked to come in to say the rule is, Kathy, if you
- 24:15have one day, if you have to have another, okay. And so
- 24:17Weekly's not here, so I'm coming in a much weaker Weekly that's coming in
- 24:22dose with Coop this afternoon. And then of course self, not really self
- 24:26promotion, but promotion for the station tomorrow. I guess I mentioned the top
- 24:30of the show, We're gonna be given away five hundred gallons of free gasoline
- 24:33courtesy of Parmar Stores and all of our stations here on the old main Street
- 24:37in Saint Alban's and I'll be there hanging out with our new station, The
- 24:41Mountain. That's our new classic rock station, ninety eight seven the Mountain.
- 24:45And when I wrap up down there, I'll be on the Mountain, literally
- 24:48on the radio to Marrow between three and seven on the Mountains. So if
- 24:51you had a chance to listen our station yet, yes, it's so oh
- 24:52yeah, I have. It's great if you're a classic rock person and it
- 24:57is definitely the station for you. Of course, we Steve Animal doing mornings
- 25:00the semi legendary. I gotta take the I guess I gotta take the term
- 25:04semi off its title because he's back in radio again where you should have never
- 25:08left, and he's doing the morning show and Shockley hangs out with him from
- 25:12time to time. And so if you haven't had a chance to listen to
- 25:15our station, the app is under development, but you can always go to
- 25:18the website or listen to it in actual old fashion radio if you want to.
- 25:22But the website is nine eight seven The Mountain dot com. Listen to
- 25:26the Mountain if you like classic rock, it is your thing. Kathy Davis
- 25:29is my guest co host this week, and I first met Kathy several months
- 25:33ago when she and her company DC Elevators were considering advertising on our stations here
- 25:37and we met for a couple of lunches with the people with your company and
- 25:42mine sales Weasel extraordinary, Tim Morris and I sit in on that and one
- 25:49of the things that really impressed me most about you, Kathy was you have
- 25:52great taste of food. Well from one foodie, I mean, I was
- 25:56just taking notes from you. You are everywhere and all of the things that
- 26:00you show looks so good and uh and also music too, and music.
- 26:06Yeah, that's our, that's our, that's our. Kin chip that Kathy
- 26:08and I had so tell us about Kathy Davis Jimbo kind of just spelled a
- 26:12little bit. You were the last graduated part of the last g graduating class
- 26:15of Stonehall. So I am from I mean born race here in West Virginia,
- 26:21Charleston's West Side, like you said, at the best side, and
- 26:25last graduating class of Stonewall nineteen eighty nine. We have a class reunion coming
- 26:29up as a matter of fact, next month. Oh really yep. So
- 26:32I'm excited to see. I think it's all class, all classes of Stonewalls.
- 26:36That the way they're doing it. Yeah, so that's going to be
- 26:38fun. But yeah, I'm just You're just You'm just me. I want
- 26:45to ask you a question about about Stonewall because you know, with school consolidation
- 26:48that's gone on everywhere. Um, and you know, I'm not from this
- 26:52area originally, but I certainly knew the name Stonewall. It's great that you're
- 26:56able to be able to get together, uh and keep some of that history
- 27:00a lot right, it's still standing. That's what you know, our biggest
- 27:06competitor was Charleston High, and I have a lot of friends that were even
- 27:11though that we it's a love hate that's the way. Yes, But I'm
- 27:15like, well we're still standing, so I mean, yeah, exactly that
- 27:18So, um, that's where you're from. Tell us about you? The
- 27:22person gets a little bio on you. I mean, we know where you're
- 27:23from. But I want to hear about Kathy. Tell us about Kathy.
- 27:26Well, I m sucks. It's really not a lot. I'm gonna work
- 27:30a holiday. I'm trying not to be. I'm about to be an empty
- 27:33nester. And that's really kind of hit because my baby she's going off to
- 27:37college. Where she going if you don't ask, She's going to Georgia Albany
- 27:41State. Okay, yeah, it's a long way, like eleven hours.
- 27:45And I'm like, what did I do to you as a parent for you
- 27:48to go that far? You know? Wu it's like here and Marshall and
- 27:53what she gonna stay nursing. She's going into pre nursing. She wants to
- 27:57be a pediatric nurse. Okay, yeah, so I'm very proud of her.
- 28:02I have an older daughter who's in New York and she's doing real estate,
- 28:06property management, she has a business. So they're kind of spread out.
- 28:11But we gotta do what we can to try to get them back here
- 28:12in West Virginia. And I mean it's kind of hard, but I talk
- 28:15about this Kathy on the show is and this is not a political statement because
- 28:19I don't do politics on Friday. But we've got to do everything we can
- 28:23to try to encourage these young people to want to come back to West Virginia.
- 28:29You're absolutely right. And one of the things that she is wanting to
- 28:32do is invest here in West Virginia. So she's, like I said,
- 28:34she's in real estate. My background is real estate and construction. How I
- 28:40got into elevators, it's just like, okay, but I'm talking about but
- 28:45I mean, it's just a passion that I had once I got into it,
- 28:49and I thought I was going to own like a jazz coffee club type
- 28:55of thing. Didn't happen. So but I like the love the path that
- 29:00I went on, and even her when I used to go and uh try
- 29:07to get you know, houses and yaff like that knock on doors. I
- 29:10would drag her with me thinking that I was making her go. But then
- 29:14she decided to take that path. She's doing a lot better than me,
- 29:19and so she wants to come back into West Virginia and invest in properties.
- 29:25Well, we definitely, we definitely will welcome her because we definitely need to
- 29:29people in West Virginia. We need to We're always talking about encouraging people to
- 29:32move to West Virginia, which I'm all for, and we need that,
- 29:33but I like to keep get some of our youngest and brightest to want to
- 29:37stay in West Virginia too, And they can go away to college whenever,
- 29:40but we need them here because we're well, I mean, let's face it,
- 29:42Kathy, we are old. I'm older than you, but we're all
- 29:48younger than Tim Morris though. But but but still, I mean, you
- 29:52know, uh, I won't say our time is gone, it's not that,
- 29:56but but it's time for a younger generation to to to make things happen
- 30:00here in West Virginia, and we got to try to do what we can
- 30:03to get those people to want to stay here. Sometimes we don't always do
- 30:04that, And that's not a political statement, that's a fact, and it's
- 30:07not something new. It's been going on for years. But but we got
- 30:11to try to make that happen. I want to talk about this company before
- 30:14we go to break DC elevators because I'm like most people. When I first
- 30:18met you, I didn't really give a whole lot of thought to elevators.
- 30:22I mean, you push a button, you get on, you make awkward
- 30:25eye contact, and you get to your destination, you know, And I
- 30:29never really gave it much more thought about elevators. But there's it's a whole
- 30:34world out there. It is a whole world out there, and my mother
- 30:38knows more about elevators, and I'm sure she would like because I'm always talking
- 30:44about elevators. I don't think I have left a conversation with anybody without mentioning
- 30:49elevators. Well, you play laid one on too, traun here telling him
- 30:53about those steps that they need to put an elevator and had ad Riverfront Park.
- 30:57Well, you know, but you're right about that. You don't think
- 31:00about elevators. All you want to do is get to your destination. And
- 31:03then when the elevator's down, now you're you're mad and you want to fuss
- 31:07at somebody and things like that. But I mean, it's so interesting to
- 31:14see what goes on behind these things, and like, I'm I've been never
- 31:19thought I would. I've been in the elevator shafts, I've been on top
- 31:22of the elevator. I've seen how they work. I'm looking at the I'm
- 31:27getting carried away because like I love it, believe it or not. But
- 31:33um, yeah, so, um, it's very interesting. And I was
- 31:38telling Um Jim, we were talking about um his fear that he has the
- 31:44elevators, the free falling, and I said, I love action movies and
- 31:49those are some of the fun parts of the movies. Is when you know,
- 31:52Tom Cruise, James Bond are in the elevators and the free falling,
- 31:56they get out. And then I realized, after getting into the industry,
- 32:00that doesn't happen. It doesn't happen. Elevators don't free fall. So I
- 32:04was like, well, now you just you just ruined every action movie from
- 32:08this point. Elevators don't so it never happens. It doesn't, it doesn't
- 32:12happen. If it happens, it is a major catastrophe. You know,
- 32:16the building is you know, something's happened to the building. I'm sure,
- 32:20but nope, it doesn't. There's so many safeties and elevators. Um,
- 32:24it just doesn't. I guess that's a good thing. It is a good
- 32:29thing, and that's what I said. I was like, well, I
- 32:30guess it is a good thing that elevators don't free fall, because there's so
- 32:34there would be an issue. But no, they're one of the safest modes
- 32:37of transportation and building. People think of steps. People are like, I
- 32:40don't want to take the elevator because you know, I'm scared of elevators,
- 32:44but steps are because people have the tendency possibly to fall. Yeah, elevators
- 32:50are are safer than steps, I would think. And sometimes some people like
- 32:52to take steps more often because they looking for the exercise and everything. And
- 32:57I get that, but now once you get over about three or four flights,
- 32:59I'm out, yeah, And I trulynk that I am the best salesperson
- 33:02for elevators because I've gone into buildings thing sight surveys, but for people who
- 33:07want elevators, right, and so you have to go up all these flights
- 33:12of steps, and I know, I was into building in Huntington and then
- 33:14it was like non flights of steps and I'm like, so you want an
- 33:16elevator here, and we gotta go and look at the shafts, and we
- 33:20gotta go on top of the rooftop to see the where the machine room is
- 33:22going. And we're walking up these flights of steps, like I tell you
- 33:27what, I'll meet y'all up there, because that's a lot of flights.
- 33:30I'm out of breath, it's hot, and I'm like, I'll just meet
- 33:32y'all at the top. So I think I'm one of the best sales persons
- 33:37because the steps and my knees. Not a good man, not a good
- 33:39match. I get it. We're going to continue our conversation with Kathy Davis
- 33:45here, get some texts to get to as well. Plus we're going to

- 37:04DC Elevators and about their investment in Charleston. Absolutely, so they DC Elevator
- 37:08came to Charleston, West Virginia back in two thousand and Have you turned your
- 37:14head a little bit? Get back into the microphone a little bit there,
- 37:15Okay, go ahead, back in two thousand and sixteen. Um, they
- 37:19are my corporate My corporate office is in Lexington, Kentucky, and we are
- 37:23the largest independent elevator company in Kentucky. And so they wanted to come into
- 37:30West Virginia and um, you know, uh do some services here. So
- 37:35they had ended up buying a company here. And so my job has been
- 37:39to promote DC and we are, like I mentioned, an independent company.
- 37:44They started off back in nineteen seventy seven. It was two guys, Danny
- 37:47and Charlie and d not Washington. That was gonna be my next question.
- 37:53Danny and Charlie. Danny and Charlie. And so they had wanted to get
- 37:58more customer based customer relations base versus like just a piece of paper, and
- 38:04so they decided to start their own company and go for like I call them
- 38:08the twos and the FEUs, like the two three four, you know,
- 38:12just the smaller buildings and as they grew, they got, you know,
- 38:20more buildings. Like I said, all through Kentucky and then my office we
- 38:25handle West Virginia and eastern Kentucky, so I get a chance to go in
- 38:30the I knew the town he was talking about when he's mentioned Eastern Kentucky Garrison
- 38:35to have elevators there too. Everywhere, Yeah, trying to so they came
- 38:40through here and we've been really competitive. Just recently, I was telling Tim,
- 38:45I just moved my offices because we outgrew the place where we started.
- 38:51So I'm in a bigger place, a bigger warehouse, and it's a really
- 38:53good fit for us. But yeah, we tried to UM. Right now,
- 38:58our territory is pretty much the whole state. I'm trying to stay like
- 39:01within our radius as we grow. I don't want to get too big so
- 39:06I can't service our customers. But one of the things that I get is
- 39:09we show up, and that's one of the things that I like. UM
- 39:13we come do monthly services and you wouldn't think that that is important, but
- 39:17until your elevator is down right and after a walk non floorish exactly, Tim
- 39:23and I. We were just talking about that during the break you took earlier
- 39:28in the show. We talked about the free falling the elevators, which apparently
- 39:31is not a thing. You told us a funny story about about a phone
- 39:35call you received. We did, so we got we gotta call in my
- 39:38office and a gentleman had mentioned that he had just got was in one of
- 39:43our elevators and it fell eight stories and the reason he didn't die is because
- 39:49he jumped right before it hit the ground and he was able. And I
- 39:53was like, you know, I think I saw that show, but yeah,
- 39:59it was is really interest and I mean, of course it did not
- 40:01free fall eight floors, um, but in his mind it did. He
- 40:07was, um, it was just interesting. People are creative, Yes they
- 40:12are. Yeah, so um. I talked to the property manager and I
- 40:15was like, so, now what happened. She said, no, no,
- 40:19that's not what happened. But yeah, he tried, he tried,
- 40:22he did. And those are real stories. I mean, there's so many.
- 40:28Our technicians have the best stories. We need to Nick. We have
- 40:31you on again, maybe we'll have one of the technicians. Yeah, that
- 40:34would be. And here's something I think people need to realize about about elevators.
- 40:38Uh, and only I could do an entire show on elevators. By
- 40:42the way, um is it's not just about when you think elevator. First
- 40:45thing? I thought, when when when when Tim our salesman told me,
- 40:49um, hey, I want you go meet these people and let's go talk
- 40:52to him and he's pimping me out basically to go talk to these people.
- 40:55Um, I thought, Okay, this is for new this is for people
- 40:59that are building new apartment complex or they're building a new office building. But
- 41:01that's not what it is about as much as it is about servicing the ones
- 41:07that, whether you sold them or not, are already there. That's right,
- 41:09and that's a good thing about us. We can service any of the
- 41:13brands and everything. There's a difference. There's proprietarian and there's an non proprietary.
- 41:17We're more non proprietary because it's where the parts are better. You know,
- 41:22we can get the parts better and things like that. But our technicians
- 41:27are I call Einstein's of elevators because they look at this stuff and it's just
- 41:31like they turn into a whole different person. And I mean, you know
- 41:37some people are MASKI some people you know, they do these elevators. They
- 41:43repair these elevators, and they make sure that they're running. And I like
- 41:46the fact that I can stand behind them because they are the ones who are
- 41:51out there and they're the ones who are making the elevators work. Because you
- 41:54do have the preventive maintenance, which is very important. But we also do
- 42:00like modernizations, and so we have a few buildings where they're just old,
- 42:04outdated elevators may not run a smooth and we're able to come in and put
- 42:07some new equipment in there. Some people just want new cabs, so we
- 42:12do a facelift on an elevator. So now perhaps the inside it's called a
- 42:16cab, it's called a cab. They're called cabs. I don't know that,
- 42:22yes, And so you don't have to go behind these things to updated
- 42:27elevators. Some people just want a new the walls and the walls and things

- 48:37Realty Group, Business of Mindline Meeks did us are called three or four four
- 48:39four zero one zero one. Getting back to DC Elevators from them, what's
- 48:43some projects around town that you've done here recently the last couple of years or
- 48:46so that you're very, very proud of. Oh yeah, and one of
- 48:49the ones, um is the one on nine hundred on Lee Street. We
- 48:52mod it out or updated. Sorry, that's elevator business. She's talking elevator
- 48:58talk again, Jeff. Um, we updated their elevators. Um. I
- 49:01remember when they were doing the construction and getting the building together to go from
- 49:06the bank to the high end condos, and they were pretty much using the
- 49:09elevators as construction elevators. And we just got getting to talk in and it
- 49:15was just like you know, this is a nice, premier building and you
- 49:20want your elevators to reflect that too, And so they allowed us the opportunity
- 49:23to come in and do the upgrades and we did full the three the three
- 49:29main elevators there um seventeen flights UM. So that was a big project for
- 49:35us. And I used to hear from the project manager all the time.
- 49:40I don't hear from them as much, so we must be doing a good
- 49:44job. Obviously, we're kind of technology advances had there been in elevators.
- 49:49I mean over the last couple what's what's the new hot thing that ever,
- 49:51because everybody does apps and things of that nature. It's it's is there anything
- 49:54like that, or what's what's the they've gone from like the old time you
- 49:59remember seeing in UM the elevator operators as they used to up until a couple
- 50:06of years ago. In my hometown, we had one that when you got
- 50:08on it, there was a lady there. Yeah, that drove the elevator.
- 50:12I mean that wasn't That just went away maybe ten years or so ago.
- 50:15So it's gone from you know, just like the old timey fixtures and
- 50:19things, and they're updating those electronic UM there's voices, there's um you can
- 50:23have there's videos and elevators now and remember that, Tim, so yeah,
- 50:29no, um, never mind that mean luck Yeah, don't I know where
- 50:34you're going with that story. Don't just keep in mind when you're on an
- 50:36elevator that there's cameras in there. Every elevator has cameras in the Keep that
- 50:40in mind, all right, But because I'm sure you've seen some stuff,
- 50:44but go ahead. You're not alone, you're in there. But that's what
- 50:47I would think with the I mean it would like any other business, Kathy,
- 50:51with the upgrades and things. I would I think things have changed.
- 50:52All right, we got to wrap it up here. Um what what what
- 50:57does Kathy doing in your spare time? What do you like what you enjoy
- 50:59doing? I need to spend your spare time. I know you got kids,
- 51:00so yeah, trying to get one of them off the college. But
- 51:04what do you do your spare time? I have I call it deck therapy.
- 51:07And at the end of the day, I go on my deck and
- 51:08it's an enclosed deck, and my dogs go out there and listen to my
- 51:13music and I just wind down with the beverage and just and and I can
- 51:19see the airplanes from going, you know, coming and going. So I
- 51:24get the opportunity just to wind down. That's my peace, that's my that's
- 51:29everybody's gotta everybody's gotta do something. Now, you're a person that's lived other
- 51:32places and had countless opportunities to go other places. Why do you choose to
- 51:37stay here in Charleston? Because it's my family's here is I'm a small town,
- 51:42so I like just the genuineness of knowing people, and we network a
