- 1:15Speaker 1: it's a long way to go. Yeah, it's okay, it's
- 1:21Speaker 1: it's there. I don't understand. They're terrible. What did the
- 1:26Speaker 1: sofa say when it got hurt?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Did the sofa say when a cow?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yes? Yeah, ye see.
- 1:36Speaker 2: People should not have brought that's Dixie riddle cups.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I didn't bring you a gift, Bill, My husband brought you.
- 1:44Speaker 1: A gift, he said, So he apparently didn't see the No.
- 1:50Speaker 3: He was at the liquor store and said, I was
- 1:52Speaker 3: at the liquor store and I bought Bill subourbon to
- 1:55Speaker 3: take to his party.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Well, it was very It's very nice of her, and
- 2:00Speaker 1: it was a good party though. It was very fun.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I had a lot of fun, a lot of people
- 2:04Speaker 1: that I hadn't seen for a while, and one person
- 2:09Speaker 1: that I had not seen in forty years. Forty years, Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 1: who did. His name is Jeff Hirsh, and he's He
- 2:18Speaker 1: lives in Seattle, and we were We were close for
- 2:22Speaker 1: about a year back when I was in college at
- 2:25Speaker 1: we were stay in the theater department. He was there
- 2:27Speaker 1: for a year. We became very close friends during that time,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and then he left to go off to another school
- 2:32Speaker 1: and we didn't We saw each other maybe twice after that,
- 2:36Speaker 1: once in New York when I was living there. He
- 2:38Speaker 1: came to New York on some kind of a trip
- 2:40Speaker 1: and looked me up. And then I saw him once
- 2:42Speaker 1: in San Francisco a couple of years after that. But then,
- 2:46Speaker 1: so it's been about forty years. You must have kept
- 2:48Speaker 1: in contact with them, No, no, no, no, we just
- 2:52Speaker 1: sort of saw.
- 2:53Speaker 2: He ended up at your party.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Well, I invited him, I thought, And I thought, sure,
- 2:59Speaker 1: surely he won't. But does he live here? Did he fly?
- 3:03Speaker 1: He lives in Seattle.
- 3:04Speaker 2: He flew in for your party.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Wow.
- 3:06Speaker 1: He I sent him an invitation and he immediately texted
- 3:11Speaker 1: me and and said I'll be there, And I said,
- 3:16Speaker 1: you're kidding me. And then he texted again and said
- 3:19Speaker 1: why would I not be there Seattle? Yeah? And so
- 3:24Speaker 1: he flew in on Friday, and uh, he said, do
- 3:28Speaker 1: you have Do you have time to come and have
- 3:29Speaker 1: a drink? And and I thought it would be a
- 3:32Speaker 1: good idea to sort of catch up before.
- 3:36Speaker 3: If not, you would have spent the whole time with
- 3:38Speaker 3: the party with him.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Probably, Yeah, So so I went. I met him at
- 3:42Speaker 1: the bar at the Monaco where he was staying, which
- 3:45Speaker 1: I hadn't been there for a long time. It's that's
- 3:46Speaker 1: a very nice part. And we sat probably drinking and
- 3:51Speaker 1: eating or dervs at the bar for a couple of hours. Uh,
- 3:57Speaker 1: just you know, and then he said, oh, I have
- 4:01Speaker 1: to go. I've got tickets to the symphony. Well, I've
- 4:03Speaker 1: got a ticket to that. He was by himself, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: he said, I like, I love symphonies and I'm going
- 4:08Speaker 1: to go hear the He said, is is it a
- 4:11Speaker 1: nice haul? And I said, yeah, it's very nice soon
- 4:13Speaker 1: and I think you'll enjoy it. That's a big thing.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Like I could see if it was like a close
- 4:19Speaker 3: friend that you saw the time and they were having
- 4:21Speaker 3: a birthday party, and like, yeah, I'm gonna go to
- 4:23Speaker 3: Bill's birthday, but someone you haven't seen.
- 4:25Speaker 2: For forty years.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we traveling to their party. That's well, we were
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, we were really we had a really strong
- 4:34Speaker 1: connection at one time, and we then we neglected it
- 4:37Speaker 1: and let it, let it lapse. And and I think
- 4:41Speaker 1: both of us felt bad about that, and he felt
- 4:44Speaker 1: bad enough about it to say, you know what, I'm
- 4:47Speaker 1: going to go.
- 4:48Speaker 3: You know, there's a whole article in the Atlantic right
- 4:51Speaker 3: now about men's friendships.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just about to read that. You should
- 4:57Speaker 1: read it because men don't have friend and yeah, much.
- 5:01Speaker 3: It's like men struggle. I mean, there's a larger conversation
- 5:05Speaker 3: about maybe things are bad right now because men struggle
- 5:08Speaker 3: in lots of different ways, and that's coming out in
- 5:11Speaker 3: this hyper masculinity stuff.
- 5:13Speaker 1: They're like solitary or solitary lonely.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but men, men aren't. Men aren't good at friendships.
- 5:19Speaker 3: And the gist of the story is I had all
- 5:22Speaker 3: these friends when I was younger, and I've lost touch
- 5:24Speaker 3: with them.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And it really is about, you.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Know, you should call them even if you haven't heard
- 5:29Speaker 3: from him in forty years.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It's maybe reconnect with them.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It is a thing, it really is. It's ridiculous. I
- 5:38Speaker 1: don't see may I don't see friends very often, and
- 5:41Speaker 1: that's ridiculous. I mean, Jeff Model and I feel I
- 5:44Speaker 1: consider a really good friend, but we don't see each
- 5:46Speaker 1: other that much. Jim Facer, he came down to the party,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and you know Jim, he's he's the former owner of
- 5:54Speaker 1: X ninety six, and but he and I have been
- 5:57Speaker 1: close friends for a long time and and but we
- 6:01Speaker 1: don't see each other anymore.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But they say everybody's sitting at home going, Yeah, I don't.
- 6:05Speaker 3: We don't see each other anymore. One of you needs
- 6:07Speaker 3: to reach out and say, you know.
- 6:09Speaker 1: What, Well, wasn't it good that I reached out to
- 6:11Speaker 1: Jeff Hurst?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:12Speaker 1: And it was wonderful to see him and talk. Did
- 6:14Speaker 1: you did you do? You know who he was at
- 6:16Speaker 1: the party. He had long, long gray hair, and he
- 6:19Speaker 1: was dressed well. He was he always dressed well, even
- 6:25Speaker 1: in college. You know, he made it a point, and
- 6:27Speaker 1: he was dressed well. You know, he had like slacks
- 6:30Speaker 1: with a plead in it. Wow, and uh, and he
- 6:33Speaker 1: almost looks like he should have had an ascot on.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But but he didn't have an ask. But it's yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 1: it was and it was great to see him. And
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna make sure that I stay in touch with
- 6:44Speaker 1: him and maybe go visit him.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Well, there you go. Yeah, all my friends are dead.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Please, Okay, let's see a quick, quick dad joke. Let's
- 6:55Speaker 4: see my dad died. Oh god, let me pick a
- 7:04Speaker 4: different one.
- 7:05Speaker 1: What did one earthquake say to the other, Hey, it's
- 7:09Speaker 1: not my fault.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Oh oh they're horrible. I wish I were dead.
