- MARK HAYES (00:01.23) All right, folks, welcome back to another exciting edition of Two Men in Black and White, an Honest Conversation. Brock Cannella is back with us after some time off to mourn an unfortunate passing in his family. Brock, if you just want to say a few words to those folks who have been so kind as to express their sympathies for you. BROCK GANELES (00:21.985) Yeah, I really appreciate the support in the comments in the section. know, most people that go online and are out there, right? You only hear about like the vitriol that gets thrown at different people and how terrible, you know, it is. But I have got the absolute opposite and appreciate that anyone who tunes in sort of has cared enough. And it's been very heartwarming that. MARK HAYES (00:49.848) Go down. BROCK GANELES (00:49.953) people taking the time to write nice things makes me feel good. So thank you very much for that. MARK HAYES (00:52.686) Absolutely. No doubt made me feel good. So, you know, what a blessing. What a blessing to be able to, you know, touch other people's lives. Just as we've touched theirs, they have been able to reach back out and touch ours as well. So thank you again to all those folks who reached out and sent along your prayers. All right, let's get right into it today. Super Bowl Sunday. we are talking about the confluence of the ultimate sporting event and of course politics right first of all let's get to sports and politics at the Olympics JD Vance showed up and wow that was not pretty and who cares you get what you pay for my friend BROCK GANELES (01:47.839) I mean, of course, JD Vance gets booed, right? I don't think there's an arena in America you couldn't get booed at. I don't know why you showed up. We've definitely getting the connection and the confluence of sports and politics between the Olympics and the Super Bowl in an amazing way. Our athletes have been outspoken. Our Olympic athletes have been outspoken. Anti-ice, one of our skaters is basically going back and forth with Trump on social media in particular and So I'm proud of them for that, but it just goes to show sports and politics are always intertwined the Olympics particularly has always been you know, of a Patriotism slash propaganda event to live for the home countries very often So it's international stage MARK HAYES (02:28.909) No doubt. BROCK GANELES (02:43.341) and the Italian people and the Europeans, right, expressed their rage at our government and the only way that they could, which was to boo JD Vance. But of course, I'm disappointed because American media sucks and NBC like basically muted the sound pretending as though JD Vance wasn't getting booed unmercifully. Right. If you've been cheered, they would have played the sound. Right. So what are they? They trying to protect us as Americans from the fact that the world hates us right now. Yeah, like they're just like they don't want to admit to it. So it's just ridiculous. JD Vance can go, but we can't hear that. Our media won't let us hear the response to him. MARK HAYES (03:17.166) The world hates us. MARK HAYES (03:29.044) Right, right. When we know the rest of the world is against us because they've said so. Right? They've said that they don't agree with the Mad King. They've said his policies are shit. They've told him to his face that his policies are stupid and they make no sense. They've told him to his face that he has no class. You know, Prime Minister Macron in France, you know, let him have it with both barrels. And I understood he met the Prime Minister of Italy. And she gave him the business. you know, nobody wants us around. Why would he even go? What did he expect? You know, they're so tone deaf, they can't read a room. They're so incompetent. It's amazing. You know, it's funny too. I was on set yesterday working on another project and, you know, one of the guys on set said, well, we just got to make it to the midterms. And then someone else unsolicited for me. said, how are we going to make it to the midterms? We can't last until the midterms. And that was the prevailing sentiment in the room. And this just shows how much the world, how far our stake has fallen in the world. if you think these athletes don't, remember the fist in Mexico City in 1968. Right? One of the greatest protests ever. You know? And those athletes, all three of those athletes, including I believe there was a Swiss, was a European athlete who placed third that year. And even his life was changed immensely. The two African-American athletes that were on the podium that held up the gloved fist, you know. They were persona non grata in the US, you know, in every community except the black community. You know, you can go into black homes right now and see those photos, you know, in people's homes because we understand, you know, what they sacrificed making that stand. And today's athletes are no different. You know, they are making a stand. I don't know that they're getting the kind of visibility. MARK HAYES (05:55.278) that they did in 68 because we only had four channels back then and every channel probably had the Olympics on it. And today, I don't know how many people are cheering for American athletes, right? Because of the symbolism, not because of the athlete themselves. So, I wanna cheer for the USA hockey team, right? But the men's team, you know, BROCK GANELES (06:02.07) Yeah. MARK HAYES (06:25.39) 1980 is being celebrated and lauded by MAGA, by Trump, and they keep going to events to support Trump, right? So they've stained the men's hockey brand. The women this year have their first African-American female on the team, and she is phenomenal from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. you know, look, Brock, Trump has done so much damage on so many different levels. We've already talked about the decades it's gonna take. We don't even know if we're gonna see it in our lifetime. What do we have, 25, 30 years left if we're blessed? We don't even know if we'll see the repair in our lifetimes. BROCK GANELES (07:13.169) It's really interesting how the Europeans are particularly jumping on board with the anti-ice sentiment. And ice doesn't impact them at all, right? This is something that's going on only domestically in the US. Yeah, we sent a couple ice agents over there and they were ripped shit because it was representative of something they don't want on their soil. But Europeans know fascism. MARK HAYES (07:23.394) Yes. MARK HAYES (07:37.111) Right. BROCK GANELES (07:39.417) They've had it on their doorstep. They've had it in their countries. They know what it looks like firsthand. They have Putin on their doorstep at war with Ukraine. It hits home more to them. So when they see America exhibiting that behavior, they're like, what the fuck are you doing over there? So the fact that they're so anti-ice. MARK HAYES (07:50.883) Right. MARK HAYES (07:56.014) Right. BROCK GANELES (08:06.733) I just find is also an interesting angle on the whole story. Like they're almost trying to tell us as people to people. Don't let that happen. Stop doing that. That's a dangerous road you're on. We know where it leads. World War II was here. We've had Hitler and Mule Cellini and Stalin. Like we've lived it. Our grandparents lived it. Like it's been on our soil. Don't let it be on yours. And that's why JD Vance is booed. MARK HAYES (08:19.832) No doubt. Right? MARK HAYES (08:36.43) Yeah, and remember too, Brock, every place else in the world, the Asian countries, European countries are advancing, moving forward. We're the only industrialized nation trying to go backwards. Tommy Smith and John Carlos, by the way, the two athletes with the Gloved protest in 1968, Mexico City. I meant to mention their names and I'm remiss if I didn't. But yeah, everyone else is moving forward, learned. from lessons of the past. You think Hiroshima wants another bomb, right? No, no one wants to see that kind of destruction. You know, I saw a blurb yesterday, didn't even bother to read it that, you know, Trump was threatening, you know, to go nuclear. What? You moron. What are you talking about? With whom? Right, because you're a pedophile? Because the Epstein files are coming out? Get the fuck outta here. You know, as our Italian friends up in Westchester would say, get the fuck outta here. It's a... BROCK GANELES (09:45.345) You know, but he's got dementia, right? So he's just gonna, he's not, you know, he doesn't grasp reality. And those around him are, you know, aiding and abetting, you know, a madman in mental decline, running around here and, you know, destroying our stature in the world and dragging down our quality of life. MARK HAYES (09:54.435) Bye. MARK HAYES (10:05.837) Right. BROCK GANELES (10:14.111) and making our lives more risky like all the above and yet he's tweeting out to some Olympic skater like that's that's what's important to him right now is to be in a Twitter argument with an Olympic skater MARK HAYES (10:16.334) Right. MARK HAYES (10:27.798) Right, right. Meanwhile, is the occupation still continuing in Venezuela? Like, do we even know what what what BROCK GANELES (10:34.413) We're just stealing the oil right and send it to a Qatari slush fund That's ultimately gonna end up in a Trump crypto account like I mean, it's it's a fraud, know such a corruption. It's going that's going on there But I you know, but I still on the streets creating wreaking havoc right and I get there's no real pullback yet, we haven't impacted their MARK HAYES (10:40.651) Yeah, exactly. No doubt. MARK HAYES (10:49.782) Right. BROCK GANELES (11:03.095) day to day operations. MARK HAYES (11:04.974) Brock, isn't it interesting that there are no ICE agents in San Francisco? Hmm. That's odd. Super Bowl weekend, the 32 maggots that own all the football teams have probably called their other, what is it, 60 or 51 billionaire buddies and said, yeah, we can't have ICE ruining our Super Bowl weekend. That's when we make all the money. We can't be disturbed with that. BROCK GANELES (11:29.013) Yeah, it's a bad luck and it's a bad luck, right? MARK HAYES (11:34.798) So yeah, so like, you know, we can't, you know, interrupt the cash flow of the Epstein class, the billionaire class. Did you hear John Ossoff call them the Epstein class? The 1%, not even the 1%. Yeah, great speech. The 0.25 % exactly, 83 cats, including NFL owners that are out here. BROCK GANELES (11:49.355) Yeah, they gave a good speech yesterday. Very direct. MARK HAYES (12:03.192) you know, trying to basically, you know, make a mint out of this weekend. Meanwhile, you know, they're going to be sitting in their boxes bitching about the halftime show. Meanwhile, black athletes are going to be out there risking literally their lives, right? And their quality of life after this game is over, right? To make them money, right? No matter what, we lose or draw. BROCK GANELES (12:28.257) Yeah, fair enough. MARK HAYES (12:30.974) All 32 teams are making money today. Let's not get it twisted, right? Because they all share the pot, right? The TV money, the merch, the beer sales, the hot dog sales, right? The $35 margaritas, right? It's gonna be a very quiet game because it's all corporate seating. Right? a ticket start at? What? Five grand? Ten grand? You know? Like, imagine trying to take a kid, you know, to a Super Bowl. It ain't happening. It ain't happening for normal America. BROCK GANELES (12:58.22) Yeah. BROCK GANELES (13:02.369) No way. Today's Super Bowl will be hyper political because it always is. We always pretend like sports and politics don't mix, but it is. There's 30 MAGA owners that have created a MAGA world that has helped create a MAGA movement in this country. They're a part of it. I hate the NFL because I hate the owners and I hate the way they kind of MARK HAYES (13:10.19) Yep. MARK HAYES (13:23.212) Yep. Yep. Yep. BROCK GANELES (13:29.673) In essence, have like a monopoly on our sports viewership because they have this, they're stewards of this great sport that America loves. But the people in charge of it have a political agenda. They always do. There'll be military flyovers and flags are waving everywhere, right? They're going to polish up and put an extremely white face on a sport that's mostly black players, right? MARK HAYES (13:52.515) Right. BROCK GANELES (13:52.971) but the coaches will be white as they all were in the off season hiring season. Most of the announcers will be white, right? There'll be this pretend view of the sport in general. None of the players, NFL players say a peep about anything political because they got to protect the shield and God forbid they step out of line. You know, that, that bridge sailed with Colin Kaepernick, which we discussed yesterday. MARK HAYES (14:16.523) Right. BROCK GANELES (14:21.003) make a political statement you're out of the fucking league. I've kind of often said until the NFL is broken, MAGA won't be broken, that the NFL has to fall and or change dramatically. So I kind of hate everything about it. I'm interested to see how much resonance the MARK HAYES (14:21.23) Yep. Yep. MARK HAYES (14:32.652) Right. BROCK GANELES (14:49.021) advertisement from the Epstein survivors that apparently is going to be a Super Bowl ad because people of course watch the Super Bowl ads like that's a secondary sport. What are the best ads and worst ads? Right. They get that on and rated and all that along the along the way. And that, you know, if that, if that Epstein ad is actually Epstein survivors, it is actually on during the game. That's going to be a lot of eyeballs on a very impactful ad that is saying, MARK HAYES (15:05.836) Yup. MARK HAYES (15:16.012) Hey! Hey! BROCK GANELES (15:18.485) Release the files. MARK HAYES (15:21.11) millions and millions of eyeballs right and so we'll probably have to wag the dog tomorrow if i'm a ron you know i'm heading for the bunker right he's gonna do something to take the and you know what it'll be interesting to watch the the twitter feed once the ad airs because depending on the timing of it the racism will be just flying all over the place if it's before or after the half and Bad Bunny comes out and does his thing. I can't wait to see his messaging, right? And how the art mirrors our time and what he has to say, right? As an American citizen who's born in an American territory, Puerto Rico, for all you maggots who don't get it, and... you know, how that message is received. Cause I can guarantee you about 25 % Wild America is not gonna tune in to the alternative turning point show. They're gonna sit there and watch Bad Bunny so they can bitch about it. BROCK GANELES (16:33.951) He has so much pressure on him today. I don't know how he's going to possibly, you know, match the hype and the expectations and the moment. Right. It's really hard, especially following Kendrick Lamar last year, which was just a phenomenal show in message. I don't know. It's going to be really hard. I hope he does. Right. We both think America needs it. MARK HAYES (16:54.766) Right. BROCK GANELES (17:02.847) I'm glad he's being force fed to America at halftime. And yeah, and a lot of people will turn it off, right? They're going to see him for the first time. Yeah. And they're not going to know the words to songs because they're going to be in Spanish. But how, you know, maybe maybe America will acknowledge or some Americans will acknowledge that there's a lot of people in America that do speak Spanish and it's music. It's not that big a deal. You don't know the MARK HAYES (17:03.192) Right? MARK HAYES (17:12.694) Right. MARK HAYES (17:17.622) It's Spanish. MARK HAYES (17:31.277) You think? BROCK GANELES (17:31.479) You don't know the words on half the songs you listen to anyway, right? That's not always the point. MARK HAYES (17:35.566) Hey, hey, hey. And the fact that he's speaking Spanish is no big deal either. You know why? Because we're the only country where our kids are not learning two and three languages in school, right? You take a language, you spend what? 42 minutes in the class, you know, for one semester, three days a week. And you wonder why, you know, BROCK GANELES (18:01.548) Yeah. MARK HAYES (18:02.466) We're what we're we go to Spain and say, no habla anglais. No, we don't speak English here. Jackass. You knew you were coming to Spain. Learn some Espanol. We're the only ones that do that, bro. So, you know, it's it's it's pretty pathetic. BROCK GANELES (18:10.221) you Yeah. BROCK GANELES (18:22.167) I mean, he's gonna have to hit an anti-ice message, right? I mean, that is directly coming in his community. he really, I think... I was almost obligated and particularly reputation wise into service his core fan base. I feel like he has to. I hope he does it in a creative and really impactful way and you know and hits other messages as well. And I just think it's fantastic that that MAGA league somehow MARK HAYES (18:37.699) Yeah. MARK HAYES (18:42.242) waiting for it. MARK HAYES (18:47.277) Right. BROCK GANELES (18:57.481) slipped him in there. mean, this is one place where I Jay-Z credit, right? This will be two years in a row where middle America, the heartland, real Americans are going to get a little bit of like a wake up call during their halftime. MARK HAYES (18:58.981) Yeah Yeah? MARK HAYES (19:07.591) He is not happy. MARK HAYES (19:13.794) Wouldn't you like to be at that diner in Iowa? Talking to that guy? He's even speaking American! God. BROCK GANELES (19:16.109) When it comes on at halftime, turn that sound down! Right? I BROCK GANELES (19:27.981) When it comes to the game, think it's an easy one to know who to root for, in my opinion. Pretty easy. Because there's one owner I know nothing about. And then there's another owner that is a MAGA A-hole in my book. So therefore, I guess I'm a Seattle Seahawks fan today because I don't want Robert Kraft winning the fucking Super Bowl. MARK HAYES (19:41.398) Mm-hmm. We all know it. MARK HAYES (19:55.788) Not at all, not at all. Especially when you think about the city of Boston. It's funny too, because it's such an educational bastion with some of the great universities of the world, MIT, Harvard, Tufts. you know, just amazing institutions in the state as a whole. And then you have them with some of the most progressive policies, right, in the country, right? I believe they've got an Asian American mayor right now, you know, and, you know, think about how far they've come from the late 60s, early 70s in busing, right? And the blatant racism that Boston had been known for. BROCK GANELES (20:34.326) Yeah. BROCK GANELES (20:48.395) Known for. Yeah, famous for, right? MARK HAYES (20:49.806) Yeah, famous, right? And so, you know, it, you know, there's so many dynamics at play in Boston, right? And it's such a great city, world-class city, but yet it has its warts and it has its dark past. And, you know, for a lot of us, you know, for those of us that are brown, it's hard to get past the past. So, but anyway, like you said, we don't know much about the Seattle Seahawks owner, you know, because he hadn't been out here toutin', you know, more handcuffs and all this silly shit we get. BROCK GANELES (21:28.141) Yeah, it's actually a woman. It's the wife of like Paul Allen, one of the Microsoft founders, I believe. Yeah. And it's the and he's passed away and it's the wife. don't think really. I mean, maybe we should have done homework, but like, I just don't know much about it. But don't. Why do I need to know much about her? Like, you know? Yeah. MARK HAYES (21:34.21) Founders, right. Yep. That sounds right. MARK HAYES (21:43.854) Right? Not my game anyway. I'm there for the drinks. No doubt. All right, bro. Give me a quick hit. Let's get out of here. Go go party. The game. BROCK GANELES (21:52.097) But I'll root for the Z-Hawks today. BROCK GANELES (21:57.486) A quick hit is that apparently Lindsey Vonn skiing on one leg because of the ACL, I didn't see it but hit a gate and had another huge crash, which I'm sure will end her career and be the last race that she has because the comeback was phenomenal. But I give her kudos for the absolute MARK HAYES (22:11.086) Yeah. That hurt. MARK HAYES (22:19.542) Yeah. MARK HAYES (22:24.888) for trying. BROCK GANELES (22:27.191) heroic effort and inspiration to make that comeback to make the team at her age after like 13 surgeries. And it's not always, you know, I always want to be philosophical, right? It's not always the result. Sometimes it's just, it's the journey and what you learn about yourself in the attempt. And it would have been a ridiculous, absurd long shot for her to have, you know, done well on one good leg. MARK HAYES (22:36.663) Ugh. MARK HAYES (22:49.155) Yeah. MARK HAYES (22:56.429) right. BROCK GANELES (22:56.577) But I haven't seen the video yet, but apparently it's a pretty nasty fall, right? They had the helicopter out for like the second time in two weeks. But anyway, I'm gonna give a thumbs up to Lindsey Vonn. I wish it had been a better end, but it wasn't. MARK HAYES (23:00.526) Pretty nasty dump, yeah. MARK HAYES (23:07.672) Yeah. MARK HAYES (23:16.012) Yeah, you know, and kudos to Team USA for bringing her along. You know, they probably could have bought another healthy, you know, skier, but she's been she's meant so much to the sport and given it so much visibility over what the past 20 years and last five Olympiads that, you know, it's it's it is amazing that she was even able to give it a go. So, yeah, man, looking forward to, you know, just hearing from her, had surgery, but they say she's in stable condition and doing well with a really skilled team of Italian and American doctors taking care of her. So, you know, we wish her the best and, you know, we are. you know, taking our hats off to her and saluting, saluting, you know, her service and, you know, her skill and her dedication to the sport. So real quick for you, I've got a Santa Clara city council meeting, not sure if you saw it, but Batman showed up. you see Batman show up at the city council meeting in Santa Clara? And he asked ICE, You know, city council not to assist ICE at the Super Bowl. So it's interesting, he's got a great outfit, you know, a Batman costume on and he's wearing that thing. And he told city council members, you know, and apparently this was a while ago and I guess it just popped up because it is, you know, the Super Bowl. But he wore this thing and went in there and told them, know, city resources, man, cannot be used. Yeah. BROCK GANELES (25:16.717) Did the city council agree with them? Was there a sense that the city council was not going to? I I pretty much decided not to show as we talked about earlier. All right. Hey, if that's what it takes to draw attention, right? If you got to put the Batman suit on, we got to do whatever has to be done. I we got to, we got to, we got to warn our hands here. MARK HAYES (25:23.671) Yeah! MARK HAYES (25:28.002) Right? MARK HAYES (25:34.53) Let's do it. No doubt, no doubt. We are definitely in a civil war. All right, my brother, enjoy your afternoon. BROCK GANELES (25:48.415) Alright, don't eat too many chips. Don't, don't, you know, don't overdo it today. Don't overdo it. Okay. Alright, Mark, always a pleasure. Okay. Bye. MARK HAYES (25:52.526) I'm all about the chips and beer, Watching the commercials. Looking at the commercials, baby. We'll check in with you tomorrow. Peace.
