- 2:44Speaker 3: Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, Good morning,
- 2:47Speaker 3: Welcome to the show.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Good morning, how are you.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I'm doing fine? It as always our our critter. The
- 2:54Speaker 3: picture is posted in the bio on Dave Allen Radio,
- 2:57Speaker 3: on Facebook and the Dave Alan show on X. The
- 3:00Speaker 3: dog's name this wig, Hannah is shortstop. Tell us about shortstop?
- 3:05Speaker 5: All right, Well, he.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Is very very sweet, very very He's got them short
- 3:11Speaker 4: little I would almost think maybe like basket legs because
- 3:16Speaker 4: they turn out bad ways and some people say like corgy.
- 3:20Speaker 5: But I have a dog that has.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Basket in it, and it looks just like that.
- 3:24Speaker 5: I would say he has basket, but.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I don't know what else.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Of course, he's got other stuff in him. But he
- 3:30Speaker 5: is male. He's about one is years old. We do
- 3:34Speaker 5: got their gums and their teeth, so it could be
- 3:37Speaker 5: kind of like a little bit of a roundabout. He
- 3:39Speaker 5: could be two, he could be one, but one is
- 3:42Speaker 5: our best guest for his age. He did trme in
- 3:45Speaker 5: as astray, so we're not one hundred percent sure on
- 3:49Speaker 5: his background or anything like that. But he is microchips now,
- 3:54Speaker 5: he's vaccinated. He is not fixed yet, but he will
- 3:59Speaker 5: be before he goes home and if anybody is interested
- 4:05Speaker 5: in him. He is a foster candidate, so he could
- 4:09Speaker 5: be fostered for a night or a weekend or something
- 4:11Speaker 5: like that, kind of just to see how it goes
- 4:13Speaker 5: in your home before you make that full on commitment,
- 4:16Speaker 5: which I always do recommend if you are unsure how
- 4:19Speaker 5: an animal would do in your home or how your
- 4:22Speaker 5: own animal would do with the animal you're bringing in.
- 4:26Speaker 5: He does prefer calmer dogs and female dogs as his friends,
- 4:31Speaker 5: as he can be a little bit more. He's laid back,
- 4:37Speaker 5: but he's also very very playful. So when he is playful,
- 4:41Speaker 5: if he's with another dog that's like very very hyperactive
- 4:43Speaker 5: and playful, it can be a little bit too much
- 4:45Speaker 5: for him sometimes, so he does prefer still playful, but
- 4:49Speaker 5: more calmer dogs, if that makes sense. But he's a
- 4:54Speaker 5: very very good boy. He's been to a foster home
- 4:56Speaker 5: before and they didn't plan on adopting or anything. They
- 4:59Speaker 5: just wanted to give him a night out, so they
- 5:00Speaker 5: took him for a sleepover, and they did have two
- 5:03Speaker 5: small children, both under ten, and they said that he
- 5:06Speaker 5: did very well with those kids as well as he
- 5:10Speaker 5: seemed to be housebroken because he did not use the
- 5:13Speaker 5: vacuum in the house and he, I believe, she said,
- 5:16Speaker 5: would kind of go over towards the door area whenever
- 5:19Speaker 5: he would want to go out, and she would let
- 5:21Speaker 5: him out. So he's a very very good boy, very
- 5:24Speaker 5: very smart boy. But he is a social butterfly with people,
- 5:28Speaker 5: so anybody he loves pretty much anybody. He says a
- 5:31Speaker 5: little like woo woo. How so he's very very funny.
- 5:34Speaker 5: He's very cute, and he is looking for his forever home.
- 5:38Speaker 5: And he has about thirty eight ish pounds. Now he
- 5:41Speaker 5: could get a little bit chunkier, but as of right
- 5:44Speaker 5: now he is thirty eight pounds.
- 5:45Speaker 3: He's a good looking dog. And again, as always, I
- 5:47Speaker 3: got the picture posted as we do every week on
- 5:50Speaker 3: Dave Vland Radio on Facebook and also The Day Valid
- 5:53Speaker 3: Show on ex Day Valin Show is brought to you
- 5:54Speaker 3: part by Hustin's Pizza. Well this month as your favorite Hustin's,
- 5:57Speaker 3: you can get a large a ten inche Pepperoni pizza
- 5:59Speaker 3: and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie only twenty three
- 6:02Speaker 3: ninety nine. Speaking, I want to ask you about that
- 6:04Speaker 3: whole thing about taking the dogs out like a night
- 6:07Speaker 3: on the town to sleepover, if you will. How does
- 6:10Speaker 3: that whole thing where could people want to do that?
- 6:12Speaker 3: You know, they're not interested, they just want to help
- 6:13Speaker 3: out in some way, and even if it's just one
- 6:16Speaker 3: night or maybe a little longer term foster, what goes
- 6:18Speaker 3: into that process.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Yeah, So if you want to come up and you
- 6:23Speaker 5: are looking to adopt, well even if you're just looking
- 6:25Speaker 5: to foster, we have little things that you could do,
- 6:30Speaker 5: like a doggy day out. We have a slumber party
- 6:33Speaker 5: that you could do where you take them over for
- 6:35Speaker 5: a night. And then we also have like a little
- 6:37Speaker 5: bit more of like a lengthy fostering so a weekend
- 6:40Speaker 5: or a week or a little bit longer than that.
- 6:44Speaker 5: It's really just dependent on how they are in your home,
- 6:46Speaker 5: how comfortable you are with them being in your home,
- 6:48Speaker 5: et cetera. So whenever you are planning on fostering, you
- 6:52Speaker 5: can come on up look through all the dogs that
- 6:54Speaker 5: we have. You can even speak with a kennel attendant
- 6:56Speaker 5: and kind of gauge your lifestyle to them, and can
- 7:00Speaker 5: kind of pair a dog or a couple of different
- 7:03Speaker 5: dogs for you to look at to see if there's
- 7:05Speaker 5: any that you might be most interested in. And then
- 7:07Speaker 5: you'll come up front to the lobby where our adoption
- 7:11Speaker 5: counselors are and they will process the foster or adoption
- 7:15Speaker 5: for you. If it's just a foster, you'll go through
- 7:17Speaker 5: signing a foster contract and then we'll put you into
- 7:21Speaker 5: our system and you can take them home. We'll give
- 7:23Speaker 5: you a harness and a leash and some food for
- 7:26Speaker 5: the night if you're taking them for the night or
- 7:28Speaker 5: for the week, weekend, whatever you may be comfortable with.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Did I say that you folks rescued a pig.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Yes, we did rescue a pig. It immediately got adopted,
- 7:41Speaker 5: so we don't have it anymore.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Okay, okay? Is that a common thing, Hannah, that do
- 7:46Speaker 3: you somehow end up in possession of a pig?
- 7:50Speaker 5: I wouldn't say like so common, but we do, like
- 7:56Speaker 5: one or two, maybe it's times a year. We do
- 7:59Speaker 5: sometimes get like a pig in whether it be a
- 8:02Speaker 5: surrender or somebody has like a bandit or something like that.
- 8:06Speaker 3: What was the story with this pig and how did
- 8:08Speaker 3: you come to possess a pig?
- 8:11Speaker 5: I believe there was a call about the pig or
- 8:15Speaker 5: something that we had and we went out and I think,
- 8:21Speaker 5: I think if I'm I'm not one hundred percent sure
- 8:23Speaker 5: on the whole situation with it, but if I'm thinking right,
- 8:26Speaker 5: it was a pig that was surrendered to us. Again,
- 8:32Speaker 5: I could be wrong, okay, okay, but yeah, she was
- 8:36Speaker 5: a very very sweet picture, was very very friendly and
- 8:39Speaker 5: she absolutely loved. If you go on the Facebook, you'll
- 8:41Speaker 5: see a video of her and like the whole pig rescue.
- 8:45Speaker 5: They video is the whole thing.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's why I saw it, Yeah, on the
- 8:48Speaker 3: Facebook page.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Yeah, it's very it was very, very interesting and she
- 8:52Speaker 5: got lost of love for me.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I don't they say that pigs make great pets. That's
- 8:57Speaker 3: what I've always been told. If you get them, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 3: when they're young, whatever, and they make that they make
- 9:01Speaker 3: fantastic pets. Well, I'm glad we got a happy pig
- 9:04Speaker 3: story for us today, Hannah. I got to let you
- 9:06Speaker 3: go a little bit early today. We got a lot
- 9:08Speaker 3: more to get to. But I do appreciate you being
- 9:10Speaker 3: here quickly. How are the numbers looking, because I know
- 9:12Speaker 3: I saw one of the virtual tours that you all
- 9:14Speaker 3: did earlier this week, and it looked like you had
- 9:16Speaker 3: animals just about anywhere you could find a place for them,
- 9:18Speaker 3: all being taken care of, you know, professionally and like
- 9:23Speaker 3: they should. But you got a lot of animals up there.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Yes, yes, we do have a lot of animals. So
- 9:29Speaker 5: I encouraged fostering, donating, adopting, anything you can do. But
- 9:33Speaker 5: our numbers are still pretty high. I do believe that
- 9:37Speaker 5: yesterday that the work on the kennles that last section
- 9:42Speaker 5: was finished, so I think we might be able to
- 9:43Speaker 5: open that back up and put the ones that are
- 9:46Speaker 5: not currently in a kennel into a kennel. But we're
- 9:49Speaker 5: still very cool, so definitely definitely come on up.
- 9:52Speaker 3: All right, Hannah, We'll talk to you next week. I
- 9:53Speaker 3: appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Thank you, Hannah Gardner for
- 9:56Speaker 3: the GNNAL Charleston. You've main association with this week's Adopt
- 9:59Speaker 3: Me Please pet of the weeks. The picture and bio
- 10:02Speaker 3: posted on my social media Dave Island Radio on Facebook
- 10:04Speaker 3: and the Dave Island Show on x Shortstop is our
- 10:08Speaker 3: dog this week. One year old, not fixed yet but
- 10:10Speaker 3: we'll be micro chipped and vaccinated. Around thirty eight pounds,
- 10:14Speaker 3: seems to be housebroken, seem to do pretty well with kids.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Loves calmer female dogs, and just to make a great
- 10:21Speaker 3: pet for your family and just as a Hannah's favorite
- 10:24Speaker 3: term is social butterfly. So there you go, go, check
- 10:28Speaker 3: out check out Shortstop. We'll to try to get Shortstop adopted.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Coming up on Monday show State Vice Chair of the
- 10:34Speaker 3: Republican Party. Tony Hodge is going to be here, not
- 10:36Speaker 3: in his role as a part of the party, but
- 10:39Speaker 3: just as Tony the Dude. He wrote an op ed
- 10:43Speaker 3: in the Gazette Mail that was published I think last week,
- 10:47Speaker 3: and it's being both praised and criticized. It had to
- 10:50Speaker 3: do with the diminishing of the family unit in America.
- 10:53Speaker 3: It's pretty interesting stuff. Tony's going to join us on
- 10:55Speaker 3: Monday talk about that. Plus Rick Cavatt from Charleston Urban
- 10:58Speaker 3: Works will be on the show on Monday. Just starting
- 11:00Speaker 3: to wind down summer, but the folks at Charleston Urban

- 12:06Speaker 3: to have something our legislators needed. We have tough, tougher
- 12:09Speaker 3: animal abuse neglect laws. Absolutely. I agree with the texture.

- 14:52Speaker 11: Good morning, sir? How are you today?
- 14:53Speaker 3: Doing fine? Thanks for coming in. You've had you on
- 14:55Speaker 3: the show before, but I don't think you, at least
- 14:57Speaker 3: with me. You've never been in.
- 14:58Speaker 12: Studios, not in studio. Is it everything you thought it
- 15:00Speaker 12: would be. It's just spectacular.
- 15:02Speaker 3: It's getting more spectacular next time that you come in,
- 15:05Speaker 3: maybe later in the year. Fingers crossed, this will all
- 15:07Speaker 3: be on television. Oh so you'll have to get on
- 15:10Speaker 3: the app are we yeah? Yea, yeah, We're we're gonna
- 15:12Speaker 3: We're gonna be on the I gotta I gotta pick.
- 15:14Speaker 12: Up my game too, because I'm gonna be I have
- 15:16Speaker 12: a face for radio, so I don't want to be
- 15:18Speaker 12: on that.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I've never heard that before, never heard that before. All Right,
- 15:21Speaker 3: So you got a big announcement about something going on
- 15:24Speaker 3: Trojan Landy.
- 15:24Speaker 12: Talk about them, Yeah, breaking versus breaking news, breaking news.
- 15:27Speaker 12: I mean there's there's been some rumors flying around the
- 15:30Speaker 12: area and people have come in and seen us, so
- 15:32Speaker 12: I mean it's gotten out a little bit.
- 15:33Speaker 11: But yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 12: So our first announcement is we're we're becoming a power
- 15:36Speaker 12: sports dealer. We're going to be the Capital City's newest
- 15:39Speaker 12: power sports and South Charleston's newest power sports dealer. And uh,
- 15:43Speaker 12: we're getting into motorcycles and scooters.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Okay, so what led to this decision?
- 15:48Speaker 12: Uh, you know really just uh the being outside. You know,
- 15:52Speaker 12: we want to offer people more opportunities to see more
- 15:55Speaker 12: stuff when they stop in. Uh, you know, being a
- 15:58Speaker 12: singular dealer, you know sometimes it can kind of be
- 16:04Speaker 12: I guess in a way, it just's stagnates, you know,
- 16:06Speaker 12: we don't get enough people in the door, you know.
- 16:08Speaker 12: But but for us, it was something that we want
- 16:11Speaker 12: to offer, just something really unique to the Capital City
- 16:14Speaker 12: and with our TNT group from Benelli. Benelli's one of
- 16:19Speaker 12: the brands that we're going to be offering. You know,
- 16:21Speaker 12: it really brings in a different type of person looking
- 16:23Speaker 12: for a little excitement and way different from the traditional
- 16:28Speaker 12: bikes that are in the area.
- 16:29Speaker 3: What you mentioned Bonelli, What are some of the other
- 16:31Speaker 3: brands you may have.
- 16:32Speaker 12: Yeah, so Benelli is an Italian brand. They've been around
- 16:35Speaker 12: since nineteen eleven. Oh yeah, they're yeah, kind of one
- 16:38Speaker 12: of those legacy bic yes. And then actually the oldest
- 16:43Speaker 12: production brand in the world is roll Infield. They've been
- 16:46Speaker 12: around since nineteen oh one. Formerly they were an English bike,
- 16:53Speaker 12: but when India kicked them out of their country, they kept.
- 16:56Speaker 3: The bike, so something to be said for that.
- 16:59Speaker 12: Yes, so uh so, yeah, we're gonna have two of
- 17:02Speaker 12: the oldest bike companies there are. And uh, Royal Infield
- 17:07Speaker 12: is really cool because they have this really classic fifty
- 17:09Speaker 12: sixty styles look to them. And then Bonelli has the
- 17:14Speaker 12: mini bike that is really popular right now with a
- 17:17Speaker 12: lot of segments across the country. Whether it's Royal city, urban,
- 17:22Speaker 12: doesn't matter, it's the mini bike is a wildly popular
- 17:26Speaker 12: segment of the motorcycle group.
- 17:28Speaker 3: I want to talk about that a little bit because
- 17:30Speaker 3: you know, I'm a kid of the seventies and growing up,
- 17:32Speaker 3: many bikes were all the things. But before ATVs I
- 17:35Speaker 3: remember three wheelers, three whee which got.
- 17:38Speaker 12: Away from well my first accident was on a three wheelers,
- 17:40Speaker 12: so yes, which is why they got away from there's
- 17:43Speaker 12: a reason to that, yes, And then it went to
- 17:45Speaker 12: you know, just the traditional four wheelers and became ATVs U,
- 17:48Speaker 12: TV's and whatever.
- 17:49Speaker 3: But now it's kind of it's it's kind of getting
- 17:51Speaker 3: back to many bike is a thing again.
- 17:53Speaker 11: Many bikes are just popping up.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Why is that?
- 17:55Speaker 11: You think affordability for one everything again?
- 17:59Speaker 12: Everything, Yeah, everything's making that cycle of you know, velvet
- 18:02Speaker 12: clothes are going to come back.
- 18:03Speaker 3: I guess, well good, I never got rid of mine,
- 18:05Speaker 3: so the.
- 18:07Speaker 12: But really, you know, customization is what's huge about that market.
- 18:12Speaker 12: People can pick these bikes up, like our Binelli's are
- 18:15Speaker 12: going to be running about thirty four ninety nine. You know,
- 18:19Speaker 12: the TNTs, we have a feel on the ground right
- 18:21Speaker 12: now to kind of get with them and play with
- 18:23Speaker 12: them before you know, we start getting them out to
- 18:25Speaker 12: the public.
- 18:26Speaker 11: But the customization is just wild on these things.
- 18:30Speaker 12: And again it is it with inflation and prices and
- 18:34Speaker 12: you know some new motorcycles might cost you twenty thousand
- 18:37Speaker 12: dollars for a new motorcycle, you know, we're talking about
- 18:40Speaker 12: something that's thirty five hundred bucks.
- 18:42Speaker 3: So what is the one of the legal issues with
- 18:45Speaker 3: with many bikes? I mean, where can these things be
- 18:48Speaker 3: be ridden?
- 18:49Speaker 12: The armity bike in particular, can be ridden anywhere, so
- 18:52Speaker 12: it follows all the state laws. You just get your learners.
- 18:56Speaker 12: Take it on the highway, because this thing can do
- 18:58Speaker 12: eighty miles an hour.
- 19:00Speaker 3: You can take this on interstate.
- 19:01Speaker 11: You can take it on the interstate. It's quite small.
- 19:04Speaker 12: I mean, people you know will definitely see you just
- 19:07Speaker 12: because of just you're gonna be a unique item, because
- 19:09Speaker 12: it's gonna look like you're literally setting on a chair.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Uh.
- 19:12Speaker 3: But is there anything under this guy or what they're
- 19:15Speaker 3: gonna be like, what.
- 19:15Speaker 11: Is moving him so fast? Uh?
- 19:18Speaker 12: But yeah, you know, we run into a lot of
- 19:20Speaker 12: the other there's other companies that have similar like items.
- 19:23Speaker 12: And when I'm out riding in the evenings, I see
- 19:25Speaker 12: a lot of these little group of guys.
- 19:27Speaker 11: They'll be out.
- 19:28Speaker 12: On the they'll be on the highway. So no, no, restrictions.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Talking to Sean Hardban again from Trojan Lanby Marine and
- 19:34Speaker 3: the announcement that you're now kind of you're not pivoting
- 19:37Speaker 3: away from what you normally do.
- 19:38Speaker 12: This is just an added thing a thing, yeah, because
- 19:41Speaker 12: you know, we love the outdoors a lot of us.
- 19:43Speaker 12: We we boat, we ride motorcycles. It's kind of just fitting,
- 19:48Speaker 12: you know, give an example of just uh, you know
- 19:51Speaker 12: who we are. We can talk to people about these
- 19:53Speaker 12: things because these things we do, even side by sides.
- 19:56Speaker 12: If we can eventually bring that on board, you know,
- 19:59Speaker 12: we're we're look at that too.
- 20:00Speaker 3: And you know in West Virginia with the with the
- 20:04Speaker 3: with the launch of the Hatfil McCoy Trail, which believe
- 20:06Speaker 3: it or not, has been you know, almost thirty years ago,
- 20:08Speaker 3: and there's more trail systems. I think there's a grand
- 20:11Speaker 3: opening going on at the one in Tornado. I think
- 20:12Speaker 3: I saw something about that next week or whatever.
- 20:14Speaker 11: I think, Yeah, I think I read about it.
- 20:16Speaker 3: It's huge. I mean it's absolutely huge, not only here
- 20:19Speaker 3: but across the country. But people enjoy it. They like
- 20:22Speaker 3: to enjoy it in West Virginia.
- 20:23Speaker 12: And you just you know, I live on the just here.
- 20:26Speaker 12: I live here in the city, but I live just
- 20:27Speaker 12: here on the corridor exchange, so you just see them
- 20:31Speaker 12: every day. There's people trailering in their ATVs UTVs.
- 20:36Speaker 11: For the trail.
- 20:37Speaker 12: And you know, in some of our bikes with the
- 20:40Speaker 12: Benelli brand, they have a touring series, but really it's
- 20:43Speaker 12: an adventure bike series. It's a five hundred and seven
- 20:47Speaker 12: hundred c C bike and Rural Infield has a four
- 20:50Speaker 12: to fifty cc that's exactly.
- 20:53Speaker 11: What it's for.
- 20:53Speaker 12: It's made for the on road off road mix kind
- 20:56Speaker 12: of what the jeep Wrangler guys have been all their lives.
- 20:59Speaker 12: You know, I'm going to take this off road and
- 21:01Speaker 12: drive it home and we're going to offer this kind
- 21:04Speaker 12: of the same thing on two wheels.
- 21:06Speaker 3: And so it's going to be I think an added
- 21:09Speaker 3: just added bonus to the already great work that you
- 21:10Speaker 3: guys do there.
- 21:11Speaker 12: Well, we try we You know how long you've been
- 21:13Speaker 12: in business. This is year nineteen, okay, so next year
- 21:17Speaker 12: will be year twenty four us as being open as
- 21:20Speaker 12: a business, and actually it starts in October, I'd be
- 21:23Speaker 12: honest it. Yeah, we open in October of.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Four, and everything's going to be at your location, which
- 21:28Speaker 3: is where.
- 21:28Speaker 12: Yeah, right, here on mccorkor Avenue fourteen fourteen, next to
- 21:31Speaker 12: the old Sport Mark and just across the river from
- 21:34Speaker 12: Patrick Street.
- 21:35Speaker 3: What's our time frame here, Sean?
- 21:37Speaker 12: Hopefully we'll be selling them today. Okay, so we've got
- 21:40Speaker 12: a few things we're working out, basically, just got to
- 21:44Speaker 12: get the insurance finished and some DMV stuff, But hopefully
- 21:47Speaker 12: all that will finish today and we'll start selling them today.
- 21:50Speaker 3: What kind of summer overall?
- 21:51Speaker 11: Has it been extremely hot?
- 21:55Speaker 12: I didn't mean from a weather staff, but I mean,
- 21:57Speaker 12: but from overall too. It was almost too hot toat
- 22:00Speaker 12: It was too hot to be outside, So I mean,
- 22:02Speaker 12: but we had a good summer. You know, we're we're
- 22:05Speaker 12: still recovering, uh from from really COVID. I mean, I
- 22:09Speaker 12: would say we're still in a covidlall. You know, we're
- 22:12Speaker 12: we're getting back to normal. We're probably still half as
- 22:15Speaker 12: busy as we were before COVID. Uh But at the
- 22:19Speaker 12: same time, you know, we're half staffed and everything's kind
- 22:22Speaker 12: of according So, but we had a It was good
- 22:26Speaker 12: because last year was a really bad year for us.
- 22:28Speaker 12: This year has been much better.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I think it's interesting that you said it's been almost hot,
- 22:32Speaker 3: almost too hot to boat, because I have noticed that
- 22:35Speaker 3: in traveling around that. You know, I live in Putnam
- 22:37Speaker 3: County and sometimes if I make my way over to
- 22:40Speaker 3: the you know, the Ellinoris area or whatever, just kind
- 22:42Speaker 3: of look over the bridge and look down there, and
- 22:43Speaker 3: I look, and I don't. I don't see as many
- 22:45Speaker 3: boats on the water.
- 22:46Speaker 12: It's been it's been pretty warm summer. I mean, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 12: we've we've had more evening riders than we've ever had
- 22:53Speaker 12: in the past. There's a lot of people coming in
- 22:55Speaker 12: around four or five o'clock and riding into sunset at
- 22:58Speaker 12: the marina there through our rick service than we've had before,
- 23:03Speaker 12: just because it is so hot.
- 23:04Speaker 11: It's hot, and you know.
- 23:06Speaker 12: Really here we don't have a lot of places to
- 23:07Speaker 12: get out of the sun. I mean, up the Elk
- 23:09Speaker 12: River got a lot of foliage and coverage, and you
- 23:11Speaker 12: get up through there. Once you're out on the canal,
- 23:14Speaker 12: you know, there's a lot of just naked areas that
- 23:17Speaker 12: you can't get to the shorelining get out of the sun.
- 23:21Speaker 3: So it's blazing out there, blazing. How's the food truck going?
- 23:24Speaker 12: Food truck's been awesome. We really happy we brought that
- 23:28Speaker 12: on board. My wife loves it. Heather just she cooks
- 23:32Speaker 12: in there and just loves what she does. And it's
- 23:35Speaker 12: something that I'm glad we we was able to get
- 23:37Speaker 12: back to our to our kind of our right customers,
- 23:39Speaker 12: to our community, especially on the water. There's a lot
- 23:42Speaker 12: of people stop in and and just enjoy it too.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Uh.
- 23:47Speaker 12: It's closed this week because we have some we have
- 23:49Speaker 12: people out with COVID, but it's still there, still around. Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 12: so we have a couple people out, so we had
- 23:55Speaker 12: to close it this week, but hopefully we'll get it
- 23:56Speaker 12: back open next week for lunches and everything.
- 23:59Speaker 11: Uh, because she runs it four days a week for lunches.
- 24:01Speaker 3: But where does she normally park it?
- 24:04Speaker 11: Right in the parking lot of park.
- 24:06Speaker 12: Yeah, only on Saturday to Friday night and Saturday do
- 24:09Speaker 12: we take it over the heel. The rest of the time,
- 24:11Speaker 12: she's open from eleven to one thirty.
- 24:14Speaker 3: What's what's what's your favorite thing on the menu?
- 24:16Speaker 11: Uh?
- 24:17Speaker 12: My favorite thing is just a dag on corn dog
- 24:19Speaker 12: just because I can eat it while I'm moving. But
- 24:24Speaker 12: the Canal Monster that that our little boy Tristan came
- 24:28Speaker 12: up with.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I think she talked about that when the Monster shop,
- 24:33Speaker 3: it is a whole.
- 24:34Speaker 12: Lot of everything. I mean, from fries to mac and
- 24:38Speaker 12: cheese to I've never eaten it. I have one employee
- 24:43Speaker 12: whose mom will not let him eat it because she's like,
- 24:46Speaker 12: it's just a giant heart attack.
- 24:47Speaker 3: But it'say, yeah, moderation.
- 24:51Speaker 12: Yeah, he's but he doesn't know that he's young. Those
- 24:54Speaker 12: things haven't kicked in yet. Like you know, I was
- 24:57Speaker 12: my mid thirties for eight of salad, so you know
- 24:59Speaker 12: that's uh, that's where he's at.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I get you.
- 25:01Speaker 12: But the canall monster, it's that is something.
- 25:04Speaker 11: Her fish tacos are are excellent.
- 25:07Speaker 12: Okay, so that a lot of people order, and that's
- 25:09Speaker 12: one of our most ordered items.
- 25:11Speaker 3: All right, So do you have information about this on
- 25:13Speaker 3: your website or social media or anything like that.
- 25:15Speaker 11: Yeah. Yeah, it's going to happen today though.
- 25:17Speaker 12: Yeah, so trojan Leaning dot com we're going to be
- 25:20Speaker 12: unveiling at getting it out there and of course Instagram
- 25:23Speaker 12: and Facebook we'll be.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Well, we appreciate you breaking the news here.
- 25:26Speaker 11: Well, thank you, thank you.
- 25:27Speaker 3: I feel important. Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 12: Yeah, we wanted to bring it to our friends here.
- 25:30Speaker 12: We you know, love what you guys do, and it's
- 25:34Speaker 12: really great for our business being in partners with you.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Oh, we appreciate that, and we didn't even pay you
- 25:38Speaker 3: to say that. All right, So in case people are
- 25:40Speaker 3: in tuning in late, give me about thirty seconds what
- 25:42Speaker 3: the big announcement was here, what you're getting into, just
- 25:44Speaker 3: in case they're just now tuning in.
- 25:46Speaker 12: So Trojan Leaning is offering power sports, we're getting into
- 25:49Speaker 12: the motorcycle and scooter business with Bonelli and actually the
- 25:52Speaker 12: scooters are going to be from Keywave and roll in Field.
- 25:55Speaker 11: So all right, and we're excited.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Sewan. I appreciate you being here, man, Thanks a lot,

- 30:04Speaker 3: All right, first of all classes, first full day of
- 30:08Speaker 3: classes coming up on Monday, is that right?
- 30:10Speaker 15: Yes, we're so excited. It's always one of my favorite
- 30:13Speaker 15: times of the year to have students back on campus
- 30:15Speaker 15: and not be able to find somewhere to park in
- 30:17Speaker 15: the parking lot.
- 30:18Speaker 3: What do you got planned for the first day?
- 30:21Speaker 15: So what we'll do all week is Welcome Back Week,
- 30:23Speaker 15: So it's fun activities, it's helping get students familiar with
- 30:26Speaker 15: the area and the facilities. One of the things that
- 30:29Speaker 15: I'm most looking forward to is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- 30:33Speaker 15: We're doing dining with the deans, So it's an opportunity
- 30:36Speaker 15: for students to connect with their academic leadership over lunch.
- 30:39Speaker 15: It's a group who we think it's important who they
- 30:41Speaker 15: talk to and get to learn from. You. You've had
- 30:44Speaker 15: Kent Wilson, for example, on your show before, and he's
- 30:47Speaker 15: our dean for nursing and Emergency Medical Services. So students
- 30:50Speaker 15: who are in that area who get to know him
- 30:52Speaker 15: get some additional mentorship. They start making those connections so
- 30:55Speaker 15: it'll help them get into industry.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Me.
- 30:57Speaker 15: Kent works part time doing cardiac surgeries with doctors over
- 31:01Speaker 15: at CAMC, so he's really well connected to the nursing
- 31:05Speaker 15: community and wants to help connect our students to that too.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Well.
- 31:08Speaker 3: It's very important speaking of nursing, we talk all the
- 31:12Speaker 3: time when you're on the show, or would Can's on
- 31:14Speaker 3: the show or whomever about the need for nurses in
- 31:17Speaker 3: West Virginia, really across the country, but specifically in West Virginia.
- 31:20Speaker 3: You just had a signing period for nurses, Is that right?
- 31:22Speaker 15: We did so. WU Medicine has done a really cool
- 31:25Speaker 15: project with us. It's called the Aspiring Nurse program, where
- 31:28Speaker 15: they select students out of our nursing program and then
- 31:31Speaker 15: pay them to go to school. So they're up to
- 31:34Speaker 15: thirty seven students now that they commit five thousand dollars
- 31:37Speaker 15: every semester they stay in school, and then a five
- 31:40Speaker 15: thousand dollars signing bonus to work anywhere in the WVU
- 31:43Speaker 15: medicine system. Obviously, we hope that they stay here in
- 31:46Speaker 15: Charleston and work at Thomas Hospitals, but certainly if they
- 31:49Speaker 15: decide they want to go up to Morgantown and work
- 31:51Speaker 15: in Ruby, that's wonderful too. It's really about getting them
- 31:54Speaker 15: a job with the system and making sure they get
- 31:56Speaker 15: through school.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Talking again with doctor Casey Sachs from a Bridge Valley,
- 32:00Speaker 3: classes out there begin on Monday, and again we were
- 32:03Speaker 3: talking about the nursing thing as well. One of the
- 32:05Speaker 3: things that you hear a lot about doctor Sachs in
- 32:08Speaker 3: the world of education is the ratio of students to teachers.
- 32:13Speaker 3: In other words, how many students, generally speaking, are under
- 32:16Speaker 3: the instruction of one teacher. What does that look like
- 32:19Speaker 3: At Bridge.
- 32:19Speaker 15: Valley we have about eleven students for every instructor, and
- 32:23Speaker 15: we think that's very important, especially in areas Pyke nursing
- 32:27Speaker 15: that we were just talking about, because you're doing a
- 32:29Speaker 15: lot of clinical experiences, you're doing a lot of things
- 32:32Speaker 15: where you need one on one support, and so when
- 32:34Speaker 15: we're able to do small classes sometimes it's also a
- 32:37Speaker 15: safety issue. If you think about our welding program. If
- 32:40Speaker 15: Jerry's in that welding program, if he were to have
- 32:43Speaker 15: thirty or forty students, it would be dangerous. And so
- 32:46Speaker 15: having those small classes becomes really important so that you
- 32:49Speaker 15: can get that support from your instructor and they can
- 32:52Speaker 15: really see what you're doing and help you to improve
- 32:54Speaker 15: on whatever it is.
- 32:55Speaker 3: But Dave alan Chow and five Vitie Live brought to
- 32:57Speaker 3: you a part about Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quoady
- 33:00Speaker 3: can cause a variety of health issues, including allergies, respiratory problems,
- 33:03Speaker 3: et cetera. Benical offer specialized into air quality services for residential,
- 33:07Speaker 3: commercial and industrial type settings. Vis a Pinnacle Court dot net.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Because what you don't know can hurt you. I've heard
- 33:13Speaker 3: some of the ads running on our stations here about
- 33:16Speaker 3: the WIN programs and the WIN Academy talk about that
- 33:19Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 33:20Speaker 15: So the Win Academy is an early college high school
- 33:23Speaker 15: here at Bridge Valley. It's an opportunity for students to
- 33:26Speaker 15: start their college classes while they're still in high school.
- 33:29Speaker 15: We have a small cohort of students who have been
- 33:31Speaker 15: working through their nursing degrees, and then this year we've
- 33:34Speaker 15: opened it up so that they can work on advanced
- 33:36Speaker 15: manufacturing technology those technology areas also if that's of interest
- 33:40Speaker 15: to them. So it's really just it's a great opportunity
- 33:43Speaker 15: for students to be able to start college a little
- 33:45Speaker 15: earlier and be able to leave us without having any debt.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Public school Doctor Sachs started in Kanawa County today and
- 33:53Speaker 3: a couple of other counties are already underway. Cabal, I
- 33:55Speaker 3: think is already underway and most of the schools would
- 33:58Speaker 3: go come online sometime with the next week or week
- 34:00Speaker 3: going to have or so. So, what kind of outreach
- 34:03Speaker 3: do you do does a university do when you go
- 34:06Speaker 3: into high schools or to get the word out to
- 34:09Speaker 3: high school students that are looking at a post high
- 34:12Speaker 3: school world.
- 34:13Speaker 15: We really will do anything that the high schools will
- 34:16Speaker 15: let us come in to do. So sometimes that means
- 34:18Speaker 15: setting up in a cafeteria and talking to high school students.
- 34:21Speaker 15: Sometimes that means sending a faculty member to a computer class,
- 34:25Speaker 15: and sometimes our computer science chair might go to that
- 34:27Speaker 15: computer class and talk about what students could do sort
- 34:30Speaker 15: of the next level of computer information systems. If you
- 34:34Speaker 15: were to come to Bridge Valley, it really depends on
- 34:38Speaker 15: the kind of access that schools will let us have,
- 34:40Speaker 15: and that varies a lot by county. Clay County has
- 34:43Speaker 15: been one of those places that's very open, that asks
- 34:45Speaker 15: us to come to graduations and asks us to come
- 34:47Speaker 15: to all kinds of events for their board and for
- 34:50Speaker 15: their students and parents, and so it just it depends
- 34:54Speaker 15: on what they ask for, and we keep trying constantly.
- 34:57Speaker 15: We have a goal to get into every high school
- 34:59Speaker 15: at least once a month, but that really looks a
- 35:02Speaker 15: lot of different ways, depending on how the schools set
- 35:04Speaker 15: up and the way they let colleges have access.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and again I can tell you, having done outreaching
- 35:10Speaker 3: schools back in my state government days, that it all
- 35:13Speaker 3: it varies depending on what school it is. But I
- 35:15Speaker 3: know that they all try to, you know, try to
- 35:17Speaker 3: work with you to get you into the school system.
- 35:20Speaker 15: Sure, they've all been really wonderful. It's you know, they
- 35:23Speaker 15: have a lot of competing demands for their time too,
- 35:25Speaker 15: and so it's sort of a matter of, oh, yeah,
- 35:27Speaker 15: we can do that next Tuesday, and so we're happy
- 35:30Speaker 15: to show up next Tuesday.
- 35:31Speaker 3: You work on their schedule. FAFSA. Any good news in
- 35:35Speaker 3: the with the FAFSA world, with the financial aid, gosh.
- 35:40Speaker 15: Good news would be really broad. I think what has
- 35:43Speaker 15: been great is that the governor did issue that state
- 35:46Speaker 15: of emergency, and so for anybody who's a continuing student,
- 35:49Speaker 15: anyone who's already receiving any kind of state support through CHS,
- 35:54Speaker 15: we're able to process their state financial aid and we
- 35:57Speaker 15: can give them state dollars. The state of Virginia has
- 36:00Speaker 15: really generous state aid, so it's a lot of students
- 36:03Speaker 15: who we can help and process right away. For our
- 36:06Speaker 15: students who do have to wait for the federal form
- 36:09Speaker 15: to go through, we're still seeing errors and the latest
- 36:13Speaker 15: update is that used had been saying that they would
- 36:17Speaker 15: let us do batch uploads as we found errors, and
- 36:20Speaker 15: then they changed their mind. So we have to do
- 36:22Speaker 15: those uploads individually as we come across them. And they
- 36:25Speaker 15: think every college in the state is really struggling with
- 36:29Speaker 15: making sure students have the aid they need to be
- 36:32Speaker 15: able to start classes.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Indeed, and it's been a mass doctor Sacks. I mean,
- 36:35Speaker 3: it really really has. I think you would probably.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Go along with that, oh for sure.
- 36:39Speaker 15: And it's already pretty clear that there are going to
- 36:41Speaker 15: be delays going into the next year because the way
- 36:44Speaker 15: the IRS transfers data to the United States Department of
- 36:48Speaker 15: Education is a little bit wonky, and they can't even
- 36:51Speaker 15: use the tables that allow us to know how much
- 36:53Speaker 15: money people should get until an appropriation still comes out.
- 36:57Speaker 15: And so it's just it's very complicated.
- 37:00Speaker 3: It is, all right, let's get it as we close,
- 37:02Speaker 3: let's get away from something a little bit less complicated.
- 37:03Speaker 3: That's you've got a golf tournament coming up.
- 37:05Speaker 5: We do.
- 37:06Speaker 15: We're really excited about it. We've never done one before.
- 37:09Speaker 15: So October twenty first at Little Creek. It's three hundred dollars.
- 37:13Speaker 15: It includes lunch, it includes the cart. It should be
- 37:15Speaker 15: a really good time. We hope people come out and
- 37:17Speaker 15: support the college. It'll help get scholarships to students.
- 37:20Speaker 3: All right, give us the website where they can learn
- 37:22Speaker 3: more about anything we talked.
- 37:23Speaker 15: About here Bridge Valley dot edu.
- 37:26Speaker 3: All right, doctor Sacks. As always, I appreciate you being here.
- 37:28Speaker 3: We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot.

- 39:03Speaker 3: there was a major issue and it was company wide
- 39:08Speaker 3: as it had to do with streaming, and trust me,
- 39:11Speaker 3: we heard about it yesterday, went out sometime I guess Wednesday.
- 39:14Speaker 3: They got it prepared about midday yesterday. Unfortunately, no, because
- 39:19Speaker 3: it got lost and it wasn't just our station, it
- 39:21Speaker 3: was all the stations in the building. It was all
- 39:22Speaker 3: the stations in the entire company yesterday. So I am
- 39:27Speaker 3: very very sorry, but no, those those shows have been lost. However,
- 39:30Speaker 3: maybe I can get Emmat Pepper to come back in
- 39:33Speaker 3: and we'll recreate the show lot. Maybe we can do that.
- 39:35Speaker 3: But now that show has been has been lost. I
- 39:38Speaker 3: am very very sorry about that. Hey, look who's here.
- 39:40Speaker 3: It's the mayor.
- 39:41Speaker 16: Good morning. How are you?
- 39:42Speaker 5: How are you?
- 39:43Speaker 17: I thought my brother in law was the biggest Elvis fan,
- 39:46Speaker 17: but I we're obviously not worthy.
- 39:50Speaker 3: All right, let me ask you this question. Yeah, because
- 39:52Speaker 3: I got a lot of that I want to get to,
- 39:54Speaker 3: and so I got to get a break into. Are
- 39:56Speaker 3: you old enough to remember Elvis alive?
- 40:00Speaker 16: I was born in seventy one.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Okay, okay, well but I'm just saying just because I mean,
- 40:03Speaker 3: I know you're year younger than I am, but still
- 40:06Speaker 3: you may not remember. Do you remember?
- 40:08Speaker 17: Well my parents? I mean I think that you know
- 40:10Speaker 17: when you're younger, just kind of like my kids. The influences.
- 40:13Speaker 17: Do you remember or is it just your parents continuing
- 40:16Speaker 17: to play records or sing songs or things like that.
- 40:20Speaker 17: So do I remember? I guess having him, Well, here's
- 40:24Speaker 17: the thing. He was always a big influence in our music.
- 40:27Speaker 17: My dad was a big, big music guy. Yeah, so
- 40:30Speaker 17: we always had music playing. So do I remember listening
- 40:32Speaker 17: to just music growing up?
- 40:33Speaker 18: Yeah?
- 40:33Speaker 16: Absolutely.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Do you remember where you were when you found out
- 40:36Speaker 3: Elvis passed? Now I do. I was, Yeah, I was
- 40:39Speaker 3: about to go into the second grade. And before you
- 40:42Speaker 3: say it, it was the only year I was in second grade.
- 40:44Speaker 3: You don't need to refer to it just my second
- 40:46Speaker 3: year and second grade, because I know you're thinking that.
- 40:48Speaker 3: But so, yeah, my second grade, about to go into
- 40:51Speaker 3: second grade, and my mother had picked me. I hadn't
- 40:54Speaker 3: started school yet, and I had to tag along with
- 40:57Speaker 3: her for a hair appointment at the salon to get
- 41:00Speaker 3: that idea.
- 41:01Speaker 16: Do you remember now my brother in law would tell you.
- 41:03Speaker 3: I heard it on the radio. Yeah, I heard it
- 41:04Speaker 3: on the radio. I heard it on the radio station
- 41:06Speaker 3: Logan that he had passed, and I at my uh
- 41:10Speaker 3: I was six, about to turn seven, and was devastated.
- 41:13Speaker 16: Yeah, I was.
- 41:14Speaker 3: I was devastated. Yeah, all right, so I gotta get that.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Let's give a big shout out to Danny Jones. Today
- 41:21Speaker 3: is Danny's birthday.
- 41:22Speaker 16: Happy birthday, May. I spoke to him yesterday. Happy birthday, mayor.
- 41:25Speaker 3: All right, So Danny Avid listener to the show Freaklent
- 41:28Speaker 3: guests to the show here and unhoppy. So happy birthday
- 41:31Speaker 3: former Mayor Danny Jones.
- 41:33Speaker 17: You know, I'm so thankful to be able to pick
- 41:36Speaker 17: up a telephone, pick it his brain, talk to him
- 41:40Speaker 17: about things in the city. Hey, what happened back then?
- 41:43Speaker 17: And what do you think about this? Because I think
- 41:45Speaker 17: that that is lost sometimes when you you walk into
- 41:49Speaker 17: an office, people who have been there, we don't look backwards.
- 41:52Speaker 16: I've done this with Mayor Jones.
- 41:55Speaker 17: I've done this with Mayor Goldman as well. They're just
- 41:59Speaker 17: good sources to continue on. You can't serve as mayor
- 42:02Speaker 17: for sixteen years and not have still great information or
- 42:07Speaker 17: ideas or thoughts. And so I'm really I'm really thankful
- 42:10Speaker 17: to always have that lifeline and I'm happy that I
- 42:12Speaker 17: wish I'm happy birthday.
- 42:13Speaker 3: You came out a couple of days ago with the
- 42:15Speaker 3: economic impact of Regtta big Presser. I talked about a
- 42:18Speaker 3: little bit on the show yesterday. Bottom line on this Mayor,
- 42:20Speaker 3: a lot of people came, they spent a lot of money,
- 42:22Speaker 3: and a lot of them came from far away.
- 42:24Speaker 16: Yeah, and I'm really excited about it.
- 42:25Speaker 17: I mean, we went from our first you know, we
- 42:27Speaker 17: knew it was successful and actually Mayor Jens and I
- 42:30Speaker 17: talked about this yesterday. You know, we're finally hitting the
- 42:33Speaker 17: sweet spots. You know it's not going to be more
- 42:35Speaker 17: than three four days period at least. Why I'm mayor
- 42:37Speaker 17: because that's what we can do to create this type
- 42:42Speaker 17: of economic impact. And let me say this, Dave Well,
- 42:44Speaker 17: first of all, let me say our first year bringing
- 42:46Speaker 17: it back thirty one million, far and away more than
- 42:48Speaker 17: we thought. Ever, that's number one, number two. The second
- 42:52Speaker 17: year than thirty seven million in this year close to
- 42:55Speaker 17: thirty nine million, thirty eight point eight million, So we've
- 42:59Speaker 17: gone up. Mother nature has a lot to do with that.
- 43:01Speaker 17: Do the bands have a lot to do with that?
- 43:03Speaker 17: Somebody asked me that yesterday. I think that people are
- 43:06Speaker 17: coming out because of the atmosphere.
- 43:08Speaker 16: Who's playing.
- 43:08Speaker 17: Certainly you're going to get a you know, a demographic.
- 43:10Speaker 17: Oh I love to see the Beatles, I love to
- 43:12Speaker 17: see Vanillas, I love to see But you're coming for
- 43:16Speaker 17: the total experience. Whoever is playing that genre. Oh, I
- 43:19Speaker 17: like country, You're probably coming on a country night, but
- 43:21Speaker 17: you're coming out for all of the other things that
- 43:23Speaker 17: were Goda brings economic impact. Let me let me talk
- 43:26Speaker 17: about that for a second. People say, well, what is
- 43:28Speaker 17: she going to do with that thirty eight million? Then well,
- 43:31Speaker 17: it's not my money, it's your money. And by the way,
- 43:33Speaker 17: it's hotels and businesses and restaurants. It was created and
- 43:37Speaker 17: what is so special about this? And this is what
- 43:40Speaker 17: the governor knows, This is what Secretary Ruby knows. Tourism
- 43:46Speaker 17: is economic development and to continue to have a vibrant
- 43:50Speaker 17: and thriving economies in different cities across West Virginia, you
- 43:55Speaker 17: have to have those type of events to create this
- 43:57Speaker 17: type of economic impact. It's important to fill her hotels,
- 44:00Speaker 17: it's important to fill restaurants for one thousand different reasons
- 44:04Speaker 17: more than just the thirty eight point eight million. Twenty
- 44:07Speaker 17: two percent, Dave, twenty two percent of the people who
- 44:10Speaker 17: showed up for regatta were from fifty miles plus out.
- 44:14Speaker 17: Pittsburgh is our second largest market all daily Bluefield Beckley's
- 44:18Speaker 17: are number one.
- 44:19Speaker 16: I sold any day. I love that.
- 44:22Speaker 17: Then Pittsburgh, well, that's that is an opportunity. Any mayor,
- 44:26Speaker 17: I don't care who you are, any mayor that would
- 44:28Speaker 17: look at those numbers would say fabulous, That's an opportunity
- 44:32Speaker 17: for me to show off what we have here in
- 44:34Speaker 17: the City of Charleston. So you know it's yes, it's
- 44:38Speaker 17: economic impact. Yes, it's putting money in the pockets of
- 44:40Speaker 17: these small businesses. That is my job, That is a
- 44:44Speaker 17: mayor's job to create a thriving economy where small businesses
- 44:49Speaker 17: can succeed and where quality of life is special. You know,
- 44:54Speaker 17: we had our Capital connector second public meeting yesterday.
- 44:59Speaker 3: I want to get in there.
- 44:59Speaker 16: Ye.
- 45:00Speaker 17: But it's all of those things that you can create
- 45:04Speaker 17: space and place. We were Matthew Sutton, who's our chief
- 45:08Speaker 17: of staff in the city. You know Matthew, he's a
- 45:10Speaker 17: former wrestling fan like you are. For that's what I
- 45:18Speaker 17: meant to say. No, if you go into his office,
- 45:19Speaker 17: he's super he's super current. He has ring tones. Do
- 45:23Speaker 17: you know that for all of us that are wrestling
- 45:24Speaker 17: the songs anyway, Yeah, it's great love the passion we
- 45:30Speaker 17: were talking about yesterday. Hundreds of hundreds of millions of
- 45:34Speaker 17: dollars are coming into the City of Charleston, an investment,
- 45:38Speaker 17: you know, not just the TC Energy just not another hotel.
- 45:42Speaker 17: You know, there's another bank that's going to be you know,
- 45:46Speaker 17: built downtown. This is an exciting, exciting time. But when
- 45:50Speaker 17: we're looking at all of those those great businesses that
- 45:54Speaker 17: are moving into downtown Charleston. We also have to say
- 45:57Speaker 17: what's the quality of life for people here, because that's
- 45:59Speaker 17: what people asked for.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Let me let me read this because somebody had asked
- 46:04Speaker 3: this once before about how these and this is question
- 46:08Speaker 3: for you and I have Brady on from top the
- 46:09Speaker 3: town triprom CVP. How exactly do you know these things?
- 46:12Speaker 17: Yes, it's not licking our finger and putting it in there.
- 46:14Speaker 3: How do you know?
- 46:15Speaker 17: Yeah, we know because we have a company that we
- 46:17Speaker 17: work with and I say we in the general we
- 46:19Speaker 17: have CVB and cities all.
- 46:21Speaker 16: Across the country do this.
- 46:23Speaker 17: There are organizations that take the amount of money, uh
- 46:27Speaker 17: that hotels have made, B and O the sales that
- 46:31Speaker 17: we make at regatta, and there is a formula and
- 46:35Speaker 17: a calculation. And oh, by the way, let me just
- 46:38Speaker 17: say this. We are so conservative, so conservative because we
- 46:44Speaker 17: want to make sure is there any room for air here?
- 46:46Speaker 17: Can we be overestimating? Underestimate? So we are overestdy mainly.
- 46:50Speaker 17: But are we being very conservative? But there is a
- 46:52Speaker 17: formula and there are companies that do this. As a
- 46:55Speaker 17: matter of fact, an organization in West Virginia hit me
- 46:57Speaker 17: yesterday and said, I want the company that you use
- 47:01Speaker 17: because we're trying to figure out what is our value.
- 47:04Speaker 17: Because I will say this, listen, it's not friend business, Dave,
- 47:08Speaker 17: it's show business. If I give you a dollar, you
- 47:12Speaker 17: better give me three back that it's your money. And
- 47:16Speaker 17: so you know, somebody said that the other day, how
- 47:18Speaker 17: long is it how much money does it take to
- 47:20Speaker 17: put on regatta? Well, it's a million bucks. It's a
- 47:23Speaker 17: million bucks. Is it your money? It's mainly sponsorship money.
- 47:27Speaker 17: That's the meat and potatoes of the money that we get.
- 47:30Speaker 17: So it's in COVID, it's w W. Thomas Hospitals, it's
- 47:33Speaker 17: better Homes and gardens, it's TC Energy, it's the folks
- 47:38Speaker 17: who are investing in this because, oh, by the way,
- 47:41Speaker 17: they know what we know.
- 47:43Speaker 16: It's good for the community.
- 47:44Speaker 3: All Right, we got to leave it right there. We'll

- 50:23Speaker 3: To Dave Alan showing five eighty live presented apart by
- 50:26Speaker 3: the General Hardware of Windfield and Milton and General Lumber
- 50:28Speaker 3: of Windfield the mayors here, tech says Dave, can you
- 50:30Speaker 3: ask the mayor about the possibility of incorporating a fishing
- 50:33Speaker 3: dock or a pier in the west Side east Side
- 50:36Speaker 3: Connection project. There's a few goods safe or handicapped accessible
- 50:39Speaker 3: places to fish that can all river from the shore
- 50:42Speaker 3: anywhere between Magic Island and the Capitol. And there's a
- 50:44Speaker 3: lot of record breaking catfish in there. Just starting staring
- 50:48Speaker 3: and laughing at us texts.
- 50:49Speaker 12: They're huge.
- 50:50Speaker 16: Oh my gosh, they're huge.
- 50:51Speaker 17: Actually, somebody who came to our public meeting last night
- 50:53Speaker 17: we had the second of a three series of public
- 50:55Speaker 17: meeting on the Capital Connector ripping up from Magic Island
- 50:58Speaker 17: to the thirty fifth Street Bridge and up Green. The
- 51:00Speaker 17: answer is yes, there are some great concepts and designs
- 51:05Speaker 17: for not only more places to fish, but also the
- 51:09Speaker 17: number one request we have for access to the river kayaks.
- 51:13Speaker 17: I want to put my kayak in the river. Amy,
- 51:15Speaker 17: make me, you know, give me a safe place to do.
- 51:17Speaker 17: That's we're working on it.
- 51:18Speaker 3: What is the next step in the capital connect The next.
- 51:20Speaker 17: Step is we took all of the information and all
- 51:22Speaker 17: the outstanding input. By the way, our first meeting we
- 51:24Speaker 17: had like seventy five people. Last night we had sixty
- 51:27Speaker 17: hundreds and hundreds of people have emailed us and text
- 51:30Speaker 17: us or just even call the mayor's office and say, hey,
- 51:33Speaker 17: you know just like this, Dave, can you do this
- 51:34Speaker 17: for us? We are putting all of those together. We'll
- 51:37Speaker 17: have one more public meeting because we want to make sure, Oh,
- 51:40Speaker 17: by the way, we get it right. Twenty five million
- 51:43Speaker 17: dollars in federal funding. Couldn't have done it without Capito,
- 51:46Speaker 17: couldn't have done it out Senator Mansion. Those two senators
- 51:49Speaker 17: have been outstanding, outstanding for the city of Charleston. I mean,
- 51:54Speaker 17: obviously the state of West Virginia, but for myopic reasons,
- 51:57Speaker 17: we would have never gotten that twenty five million without
- 51:59Speaker 17: Senator Capito Senator Mansion, and so it's federal money, but
- 52:02Speaker 17: we want to make sure we're doing right by it.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I had a quick text here somebody wanted to thank
- 52:06Speaker 3: you for your help on the Daverton project. Last time
- 52:08Speaker 3: you were on the show, we talked about that Mayor,
- 52:11Speaker 3: I gotta go.
- 52:12Speaker 16: Thank you, appreciate it.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Thanks a lot for being here. Hoppy coming up with

- 52:18Speaker 3: up at the bottom of the hour eleven thirty. That's
- 52:20Speaker 3: always a highlight of the show. On this show on Monday,
- 52:23Speaker 3: we want to talk about families. Tony Hodge wrote an
- 52:26Speaker 3: op ed and the Gazette mail last week about the
- 52:29Speaker 3: diminishing role that seems to families in America. We're talking
- 52:31Speaker 3: about that. Plus Frick Cavater from Charleston Urban Works will
