Transcript
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Colorado for one last day.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to be talking about that hogs and pig report, corn stocks, as well as China's trade list.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were down about a buck there at 78.23.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Before I quote the grain markets live, I'd like to shout out shout out our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to quote the markets every single day.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And as I look here live, December corn is at 523 and three-quarters.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: No beans are at 1296.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And Chicago, December wheat is at 697 and three quarters.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: On to the weather discussion for today.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: That giant red strip.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Leaving ponding and kind of halting harvest or hard halting planting, excuse me, in the wheat areas.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: You know, we were hoping to get a little moisture to kind of spur planting along, but at this point it's become more of a hindrance.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Hard to complain about the weather though.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Great to see it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: We are going to see, you know, some more of a break for harvest season on the very eastern side of the corn belt.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: As you can see there in Ohio and Indiana are getting kind of a rain break.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: On the grain market discussion, the corn stocks are expected at around, you know, 19.911, as you can see there, billion bushels versus the USDA's 1.922 billion carry out.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: But September counts have historically missed the same month carry-out by a median of 91 million bushels.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Kind of interesting to think about as we kind of go into this grain stock report.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: The hog and pig report came out last week, and I didn't even know I said on the show that I would bring it up, and I didn't, but I am now.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Thursday's Hogs and Pig report as tighter was tighter than ex than the trade expected on nearly every single line.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: September 1 herd came at 74.302 million head.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: That's 98.5% of last year, and versus a.992% survey is what they were thinking.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: That's the smallest breeding herd since 2013.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And it's kind of starting to sound maybe like the cattle side of things, where we have record small herd numbers that continue to increase production by being more efficient, but still seeing that same kind of shrinkage.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: This headline caught the kind of cot waves and then maybe is affecting the grain markets more than anything right now.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: China's trade list includes major farm goods but leaves out commercial soybeans.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And as you know, the soybean trade was the whole thing that we were basically worried about on the ag side.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Cotton, corn, beef, and ethanol are listed, but the actual tariff cuts remain kind of in the air.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: We don't really know what's going to happen.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So nothing's really solid right now.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: This is mostly just kind of speculation of what will get traded or tariffs cut on trade goods.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Be interesting to see coming into the next weeks and months.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: This is what we have on the economic calendar today.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: The durable cap goods comes out at 7.30 a.m.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Central.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: The U University of Michigan sentiment comes out at 9 a.m.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: and the cold storage comes out at 2.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: That's all I have for you guys today.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Kind of a short show, but I was struggling with technology just a little bit this morning, trying to get everything to work.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to be back in Illinois with my home set up where everything works like it should.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Right now, my caster isn't working just perfectly right now, but we'll have that fixed for you guys later.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you for watching and thank you for listening.

- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to go and watch that.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Those may not be free for long, hint hint, but a great show.
