- 0:33Speaker 1: I found a stat that kind of supports you to like, like,
- 0:36Speaker 1: it's just a little backup. I know you're gonna hold
- 0:38Speaker 1: out on that. I wouldn't imagine football at ciders does
- 0:40Speaker 1: the defense adjusted yards above replacement. So it's basically like
- 0:44Speaker 1: I know, no, I know, I know. I feel like
- 0:45Speaker 1: this is not going to support my arms. I love
- 0:47Speaker 1: when you take when you take one of Paul's things
- 0:49Speaker 1: and then you put like a statistical thing on it.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Why what are people doing in the background while they're
- 0:53Speaker 1: talking to us, are like rearranging their desks multitasking? I
- 0:57Speaker 1: want Speed to call back, and so every caa yellow
- 1:00Speaker 1: to Speed, who's this caller who's always coming in? And
- 1:03Speaker 1: Evan just like goes right at him, like you know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: like you like Tom Brady because that was my favorite.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That was my favorite part back from yesterday. He did
- 1:12Speaker 1: not get discouraged. It's Spi and Fresno. What's up, speed Chicken?
- 1:16Speaker 1: You call in when Evan's not here? I get smacked
- 1:19Speaker 1: around again like you did. Get older gentleman in the
- 1:22Speaker 1: room or using paper and pen and I have my
- 1:24Speaker 1: cell phone so this fits perfectly. Ok, Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 1:29Speaker 1: But have you ever given any thought to that getting
- 1:32Speaker 1: into coaching at some level? You flatter me. I don't know.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I don't think. I didn't say you'd be good at it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Don't take it as I don't. Yeah, I'm gonna take
- 1:39Speaker 1: the jab wars because I'm rooting for Derek Lawrence or
- 1:43Speaker 1: Trevor whatever's name. Yeah, we got it, Trevor Carr. He's
- 1:47Speaker 1: just beautiful. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan Well.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I figure if Jeff Saturday can be a coach, Evan
- 1:56Speaker 1: can be a coach, right right, Well, I mean he
- 1:59Speaker 1: did play in the NFL though, that's true. Yeah, but
- 2:01Speaker 1: he watches All twenty two that is true. All right,
- 2:04Speaker 1: it's Tuesday here, it's a Let's stadium and we're gonna
- 2:08Speaker 1: talk about the Patriots for the next couple hours as
- 2:11Speaker 1: we figure out the offensive problem here. Let me get
- 2:13Speaker 1: to the bottom of it right here today. Every two hour,
- 2:15Speaker 1: every Tuesday at two o'clock, we do that, and we've
- 2:20Speaker 1: got a win to talk about. Four out of five
- 2:22Speaker 1: wins for the Patriots, I mean the rolling. We're hot, hot,
- 2:27Speaker 1: We're hot. You know, we're just figuring out how to
- 2:29Speaker 1: win games. Just stacking them together. Get that win. That's
- 2:32Speaker 1: all that matter. So Patriots have a bye week obviously
- 2:36Speaker 1: this week, so they'll have time to self scout, figure
- 2:39Speaker 1: out what they need to do to beat the Jets
- 2:41Speaker 1: in a couple of weeks. Uh, it's Deuce, it's Paul,
- 2:44Speaker 1: it's me, It's Matt and the booth. I don't know
- 2:46Speaker 1: if anyone else will be joining later. I think it's
- 2:48Speaker 1: just the trio today. Yeah, I got people left doing
- 2:51Speaker 1: doing community things and such of that nature. Yeah, but
- 2:54Speaker 1: that's all right, Evans watching tape breaking it down. I'm
- 2:57Speaker 1: sure hopefully it's gonna falls dying of the the croup group,
- 3:04Speaker 1: the grip, the group. I'm fighting it, fighting it a little.
- 3:08Speaker 1: No one tells you about the group when you become
- 3:09Speaker 1: a new parent. I think that should be mandatory. Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's like they spring that on you. Your baby might
- 3:13Speaker 1: not be able to breathe one night, might have a
- 3:15Speaker 1: cup what blue man croup um, All right, what do
- 3:21Speaker 1: we got? I guess we should start with the win
- 3:24Speaker 1: twenty six to three. Defense. Yeah, defense all over him. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: kind of what I was hoping would happen. I mean,
- 3:30Speaker 1: this is you know, it's like, it's what it's what
- 3:32Speaker 1: the Patriots defense does. I think when when teams are undermatched,
- 3:35Speaker 1: just you know, the Patriots are going to come out
- 3:37Speaker 1: and roll. And I mean I think everybody has a
- 3:40Speaker 1: similar reaction. That's great. I feel good about it. But
- 3:43Speaker 1: we gotta see it against Buffalo, We got to see
- 3:45Speaker 1: it against Miami. We gotta see it against the really
- 3:47Speaker 1: good offenses. I have no doubt when a team's overmatched
- 3:50Speaker 1: that they can absolutely pound him. And you know, I
- 3:52Speaker 1: think the frustrating thing is you just you just still
- 3:53Speaker 1: get that front rubber vibe of yeah, when it's when
- 3:56Speaker 1: it's easy, you guys look great. But the second it
- 3:58Speaker 1: gets a little tough, you know, it's it's it's it
- 4:01Speaker 1: doesn't go our way, and we have trouble flipping the script.
- 4:04Speaker 1: On the game like you saw against you know, Baltimore
- 4:06Speaker 1: against Chicago, not being able to you know, effectively counter
- 4:10Speaker 1: the things that they're doing well. So but you know, still,
- 4:12Speaker 1: look that's amazing. Nine sacks. Matthew Judon's playing out of
- 4:15Speaker 1: his mind. Oocha's coming on Dietrich Wise. So you know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: maybe you have a little hope that that you know
- 4:21Speaker 1: they I mean, I think just coming out of the gate,
- 4:23Speaker 1: this Jets game is just I can't circle it enough.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It's it's I think it's a lot on the defense
- 4:28Speaker 1: on that one. They got it. They gotta force Zach
- 4:29Speaker 1: will They got to get out to Zach Wilson. They
- 4:31Speaker 1: gotta force him to make those mistakes the fourth straight
- 4:33Speaker 1: time they played him. But that's a team that's going
- 4:36Speaker 1: to come in here, and I feel like that saying upstairs,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I feel like that's like a play in game. Like
- 4:40Speaker 1: you want to have a chance to have some meaningful
- 4:41Speaker 1: games against Buffalo, Miami those other teams, you gotta beat
- 4:45Speaker 1: the Jets. They're good. They beat them, They beat the Bills.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You know they're coming in here. They felt like they
- 4:48Speaker 1: should have won a couple of weeks ago. So um,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I just think that's a game that I have trouble
- 4:54Speaker 1: getting beyond that at this point. Sorry to jump ahead,
- 4:56Speaker 1: but that's where my moment, my mind's at. Okay, Yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I think the defense was dominant against the Colts, but
- 5:03Speaker 1: you know, you have to talk about the other side
- 5:05Speaker 1: of the ball too, oh right, And it's not going
- 5:09Speaker 1: to be good enough if if that's what you do
- 5:12Speaker 1: going forward. You know that offensive performance isn't gonna win
- 5:15Speaker 1: a lot of games. You know, the last the last
- 5:18Speaker 1: two weeks, it was good enough against teams that were overmatched,
- 5:21Speaker 1: as as Mike said, and they gave you some points.
- 5:25Speaker 1: You know, they've had two touchdown drives in the last
- 5:27Speaker 1: two weeks. One of them was a two yard touchdown drive.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I know, yeah, I mean the lack of offensive you know, touchdowns,
- 5:37Speaker 1: it's um and you know, yeah, they've had a bunch
- 5:39Speaker 1: of field goals, but a lot of those field goals
- 5:41Speaker 1: are set up by short fields. It's not even like
- 5:43Speaker 1: they're driving. The longest drive they had in the game
- 5:46Speaker 1: Sunday it was forty two yards, right, So it's not
- 5:48Speaker 1: like they're having long drives and then you know, getting
- 5:51Speaker 1: stalled at the ten yard line. It's so it's alarming
- 5:55Speaker 1: it's alarming. The Jets and the Colts have good defenses.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Let's tace it. They have good defenses. However, you know
- 6:04Speaker 1: that's not the only two good defenses that they're gonna face.
- 6:06Speaker 1: The Bills have a good defense too, I think, you know, um,
- 6:10Speaker 1: so they've got to figure something out. And everybody, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I feel this way, and everybody seems to back me up.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Who's been watching. It starts with the offensive line. Now
- 6:21Speaker 1: it doesn't end there, but anything else you do to
- 6:25Speaker 1: improve the team the offense isn't gonna do. You look
- 6:28Speaker 1: a good if the offensive line isn't playing well. And
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know it's it's up and down. It it's not
- 6:34Speaker 1: just one area. It's they got to figure that out first. Yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 1: and I think it's right now people are in a
- 6:41Speaker 1: race to figure out the one thing. Is it Mac?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Is it Matt Patricia? Is it the offensive line? I mean,
- 6:46Speaker 1: it's everything. It's everything that's a problem, you know, And
- 6:48Speaker 1: that's and that's it's so hard to be like, well,
- 6:50Speaker 1: the pressure isn't great. Well, there are other quarterbacks in
- 6:52Speaker 1: the league that face plenty pressure, more pressure than Mac
- 6:55Speaker 1: and produce more than he does. Now, I like, again,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I don't want to say this in a way that
- 6:58Speaker 1: because I feel like everybody he is either team Mac
- 7:00Speaker 1: or team Patricia as to who to blame. And I
- 7:02Speaker 1: think that, you know, you have to start with the
- 7:05Speaker 1: whole operation. And you know, now at this point, it's like,
- 7:08Speaker 1: how do they get Mac back on track? Because I
- 7:11Speaker 1: feel like if there's place to be made, he has
- 7:14Speaker 1: to make those plays. And if there aren't enough places
- 7:16Speaker 1: to be made, but he's making the ones that are there,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you know, then you really lock in. But I as
- 7:20Speaker 1: much as it starts with the offensive line, I just
- 7:22Speaker 1: think I need to see him execute and to be
- 7:25Speaker 1: able to play through adversity and produce. And right now
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's just it's we're going on could probably getting close
- 7:31Speaker 1: to a calendar year now when he's last really played
- 7:34Speaker 1: a good football game and looked like he was feeling.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's so to say. And I like the way Mike said,
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know, it's everything, and that's the problem because if
- 7:42Speaker 1: it was just like, well Mac Jones isn't throwing the ball, well,
- 7:48Speaker 1: you know whatever, that that's a that's a quick fix.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You know, he can start throwing the ball better. But
- 7:53Speaker 1: it's like Fred said, it's up front it's the it's
- 7:57Speaker 1: the past protection, it's the run blocking, it's the receivers
- 8:01Speaker 1: not consistently, I don't think generating a lot of separation.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's certainly Mac Jones not reading the field as well
- 8:07Speaker 1: as he did, I think last year and even now,
- 8:12Speaker 1: they can't run the ball. Like I agree with you
- 8:14Speaker 1: Fred about the Jets and the Colts defensively, I think
- 8:17Speaker 1: both of those teams are really good defense defensively, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: I'd be willing to say, well, sometimes the other team
- 8:22Speaker 1: is pretty good too, except for the Patriots offense really
- 8:24Speaker 1: didn't look any different against Detroit, and the only game
- 8:28Speaker 1: that was the outlier was Cleveland, Right, But I don't
- 8:31Speaker 1: I don't think the Patriots offense has looked really all
- 8:34Speaker 1: that much different in most of the games that they've
- 8:35Speaker 1: played this year. Couple couple spurts here and there, but
- 8:40Speaker 1: Detroit was all generated from the defense, just like this.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You know, it's twenty five points, twenty nine points, twenty
- 8:47Speaker 1: six points, but how much of that is always you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: like your DVOA stuff, you know, and maybe not directly
- 8:52Speaker 1: like a pick six like Jonathan Jones had, but you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: like you look at that, look, well they blocked a
- 8:57Speaker 1: punt and recovered on the two yard line. There, Well,
- 8:59Speaker 1: that's not a defensive touchdown. Yeah, they took over in
- 9:02Speaker 1: the two yard line. It is a defensive touchdown here,
- 9:04Speaker 1: a special teams touchdown on however you want to call it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: They're not generating a lot of offense. Do you realize,
- 9:10Speaker 1: like the Colts were like laughable offensively on Sunday? Right,
- 9:16Speaker 1: they had one hundred and twenty one the Patriots held
- 9:17Speaker 1: into one hundred and twenty one yards. One hundred and
- 9:20Speaker 1: twenty one yards. You know what the Patriots had one
- 9:23Speaker 1: hundred sixty two hundred, And you know what the difference
- 9:28Speaker 1: is is just that they sacked the quarterback. So they
- 9:31Speaker 1: lost sixty yards on nine sacks. Now, like otherwise the
- 9:34Speaker 1: Torrey yards would have been about the same. Now, I
- 9:36Speaker 1: was thinking about that, and you know, people said, oh,
- 9:41Speaker 1: you know, they're not doing this, they're not doing that.
- 9:43Speaker 1: The play callings conservative. They started, you know, the first
- 9:46Speaker 1: three drives you know were first down runs. They're not
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know, blah blah blah. This isn't an excuse, but
- 9:54Speaker 1: it could be a strategy thing. Do you think Bill
- 9:57Speaker 1: realized this is the type of game it's to be
- 10:00Speaker 1: they can't score on us. The only way we lose
- 10:04Speaker 1: this game is if we give them the ball, is
- 10:06Speaker 1: if we you know, let them score points on defense
- 10:10Speaker 1: or just set them up, you know, deep in our
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, so he told Patricia, don't take any chances,
- 10:19Speaker 1: just like you know, live to fight another day. Call
- 10:22Speaker 1: a conservative game, and don't worry about it because they're
- 10:27Speaker 1: not going to score on us. Do you think there's
- 10:29Speaker 1: any shot at that? Maybe a little, But I just
- 10:32Speaker 1: think it's looked, like Paul said, it's always looked the same.
- 10:34Speaker 1: So I like for them pulling off the gas, like
- 10:36Speaker 1: it looks exactly like when I would assume they were
- 10:38Speaker 1: trying to put the gas down. I will say, though,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I think, like I think there might be an element
- 10:42Speaker 1: to Ruth, specifically to Mac and like I felt like
- 10:46Speaker 1: when he slid early, like that didn't really bother men.
- 10:49Speaker 1: A lot of people like really like I thought the
- 10:52Speaker 1: more didn't bother But to me, like it just seems
- 10:54Speaker 1: I'm talking about the one on the goal line, Yeah,
- 10:56Speaker 1: where I can't believe he's taking craps for them, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: like I can't believe that he's under fire for that
- 11:01Speaker 1: play right now, And I connected to what you said, Fred.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I think that that's a situation where don't get hurt,
- 11:07Speaker 1: don't get leveled, and cought the ball, you know, like
- 11:10Speaker 1: and so in that regard, I could see, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: especially with Mac. I mean this was the first game
- 11:14Speaker 1: he didn't throw an interception. But I mean that's another
- 11:17Speaker 1: thing to talk about. It's just the obscene amount of
- 11:19Speaker 1: turnovers that they've had this year, and that you know,
- 11:22Speaker 1: usually that's like the thing, right, like that's I'll just
- 11:25Speaker 1: claim the turnovers they'll be okay. I mean, they haven't
- 11:27Speaker 1: had got out a game this year without a turnover,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and then they went they I looked, they had five
- 11:31Speaker 1: last year, five games and they should have had two.
- 11:33Speaker 1: They had one, right, Um? I mean J J. Taylor,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I mean, was my favorite play just Hurtles like Mighty Mouse. Yeah,
- 11:41Speaker 1: it was unbelievable everybody. I mean, what an effort. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I I don't think to answer your question, I don't
- 11:49Speaker 1: think there's really any chance of that that you know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: they went into the game, say not not not go
- 11:54Speaker 1: into it, but as you know it as the game
- 11:56Speaker 1: declared itself early, So don't take any don't take any chances,
- 12:00Speaker 1: Like to me, that's exactly the opposite of the way.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I mean, first of all, I don't think I would
- 12:05Speaker 1: push back on the conservative game plan. I don't think
- 12:08Speaker 1: that they were anything out of the ordinary from what
- 12:11Speaker 1: I've seen for two years with how they called the game,
- 12:14Speaker 1: I didn't see anything that's that stood out to me.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But wouldn't you go into a game against a team
- 12:23Speaker 1: that like that, Like, if you would like prethinking how
- 12:26Speaker 1: you think the game's going to unfold, you probably would
- 12:28Speaker 1: have thought the way the game unfolded. I mean, it's
- 12:30Speaker 1: kind of the way we all saw it, right. I
- 12:32Speaker 1: thought it would be a little closer than Mike did,
- 12:35Speaker 1: but we saw a similar kind of game. Bill would say, well,
- 12:40Speaker 1: let's get the lead. They can't catch us, so how
- 12:43Speaker 1: do you get the lead? You know, let's get off
- 12:46Speaker 1: to a good start offensively, let's get out like let's
- 12:49Speaker 1: just maybe if you wanted to say, it's like third
- 12:54Speaker 1: and sixteen, you know what, let's just check it down underneath,
- 12:57Speaker 1: let's not make any Then I could see your can
- 13:00Speaker 1: servative thing, Freddie. Yeah, you know, we're in a bad situation.
- 13:03Speaker 1: We're not going to lose this game if we punt here,
- 13:06Speaker 1: but we could lose it if we you know, throw
- 13:08Speaker 1: a pick over the middle and someone returns it for
- 13:11Speaker 1: a touchdown. That that I could understand. But I mean
- 13:14Speaker 1: they threw the ball thirty times thirty four counting the
- 13:16Speaker 1: four sacks. I didn't think it was an overly conservative approach.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I think they misplays that were available at times. And
- 13:25Speaker 1: I don't think they're running the ball very well right now.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And that's back to your point, Fred, to start the
- 13:30Speaker 1: offensive line, yeah, I think they need Andrew's back. They
- 13:33Speaker 1: need Andrew's back, you know. And it's a trickle up thing.
- 13:37Speaker 1: You know. If the offensive line is playing better, then
- 13:40Speaker 1: Mac has more time, he is more confidence, maybe he
- 13:43Speaker 1: sees the field a little bit better, you know, and
- 13:46Speaker 1: so he's playing better, and then that trickles up to
- 13:49Speaker 1: the wide receivers, you know. And but it's all it's
- 13:53Speaker 1: all hypothetical, right, you know, because you just there's no
- 13:57Speaker 1: way to prove any of it, and so are we
- 14:00Speaker 1: haven't seen it. And now we're you know, by the
- 14:02Speaker 1: time the Patriots take the field again, it's gonna be
- 14:04Speaker 1: week ten, week eleven of the season. Um, you know,
- 14:08Speaker 1: we're in there now. It's not like, oh, you know, um,
- 14:12Speaker 1: the Patriots are going to be a different team than
- 14:14Speaker 1: we've seen already. It pretty much is what it is,
- 14:18Speaker 1: you know, and they're gonna just have to figure it out.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I think the only way that I think if you
- 14:22Speaker 1: have designs on winning a game in the playoffs, it's
- 14:26Speaker 1: all gonna come down to the defense. You know, how
- 14:29Speaker 1: good is this defense when it plays Josh Allen? Uh?
- 14:33Speaker 1: You know, godspeed on his elbow, um, you know, and
- 14:37Speaker 1: and the better offense won't see him no more? Yea,
- 14:41Speaker 1: And the better offenses, you know, if you know, if
- 14:44Speaker 1: the defense can keep him around, you know, twenty Okay,
- 14:47Speaker 1: maybe you have a shot, but it looks like that's
- 14:50Speaker 1: what it's gonna take. Yeah, you certainly can't keep turning
- 14:53Speaker 1: the ball over like you have. I mean, that's just oh,
- 14:54Speaker 1: you know, that goes. That has to stop. That has
- 14:57Speaker 1: to stop. A couple of little interesting stat tidbits. I
- 15:00Speaker 1: don't I don't love stats until about this point, but
- 15:02Speaker 1: you are just a couple of things I thought were interesting.
- 15:04Speaker 1: They get the number one starting field position in the league,
- 15:07Speaker 1: so I mean they are getting it starting at the
- 15:09Speaker 1: thirty two. I mean they're getting real as better field
- 15:12Speaker 1: position than anyone else. In the league. Another little tip,
- 15:14Speaker 1: but I thought was funny. This. This is another one
- 15:15Speaker 1: of those like Maddy played at the top, where I
- 15:17Speaker 1: find some random stat that backs up one of Paul's
- 15:20Speaker 1: like random just ranting they're only time they're any good
- 15:24Speaker 1: at running. You want to guess when it is, Paul
- 15:25Speaker 1: second and ten second immediately. This is another one that
- 15:29Speaker 1: our buddy gets mad at me when I say it
- 15:31Speaker 1: every time, Like when the other team doesn't think they're
- 15:34Speaker 1: going to run the ball, they generally run it. Well, yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I just thought it was funny. I mean, this is,
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know, digging into football outs. I mean they're thirtieth
- 15:41Speaker 1: overall on first down, thirty first when they rush on
- 15:43Speaker 1: first down, twenty second. When they passed second down, they're
- 15:46Speaker 1: twenty ninth. And going from long long yardage to short
- 15:50Speaker 1: yardage they're seventeenth, fourth and then thirty first. So the
- 15:55Speaker 1: short yardage really tough. But you know when you get
- 15:57Speaker 1: in that, like you said, the middle range of like
- 16:00Speaker 1: ten yards and they give him a handoff, they go.
- 16:02Speaker 1: But there's just not a lot Paul that I dig
- 16:05Speaker 1: through these things. I mean fifteenth on third and fourth down.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I mean, it's just there's no there's no little silver
- 16:11Speaker 1: lining so that I can find with this team stasist
- 16:14Speaker 1: with this offense statistically. And what I was thinking about
- 16:16Speaker 1: earlier was I remember in this summer looking at what
- 16:19Speaker 1: we were watching and being like, what does this mean?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Like could this mean nothing? Right now? We're watching a
- 16:24Speaker 1: sporadic offense. They make a couple plays down the field,
- 16:26Speaker 1: and then they just really can't do anything. You know,
- 16:29Speaker 1: Are they all of a sudden gonna go come against
- 16:30Speaker 1: Miami Week one and it's all of a sudden gonna
- 16:32Speaker 1: look functional And it looks the same, like this is
- 16:35Speaker 1: what we've been watching now for three months. It was
- 16:37Speaker 1: exactly the same as it is when they go into
- 16:40Speaker 1: the games right now. And that's you know, and that's
- 16:42Speaker 1: what I think is tough. As you get to the
- 16:44Speaker 1: buy where you could say, well if we could just
- 16:46Speaker 1: if we could just do this, I don't know what
- 16:48Speaker 1: to grasp on too. I don't know what to say.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, they can protect better, but is it like,
- 16:52Speaker 1: oh the offense start the offensive line, is they're protecting
- 16:55Speaker 1: really well? Right now Mac looks suddenly very confident, like
- 16:58Speaker 1: you have to break him of this uncomfortability in the pocket.
- 17:01Speaker 1: It's not all of a sudden, They're gonna have a
- 17:02Speaker 1: good couple first series and the Max's gonna be like, oh,
- 17:04Speaker 1: I think I trust things today. He's in it right now,
- 17:07Speaker 1: he's not seeing it. And it's not as simple as oh,
- 17:09Speaker 1: they played pretty well for it for a little while
- 17:11Speaker 1: and now he's back like it's a process, and I
- 17:14Speaker 1: just I wonder what they're gonna do over this week
- 17:16Speaker 1: to try to figure something out, because everything points to
- 17:18Speaker 1: them just being a bottom five offense in this league
- 17:20Speaker 1: across the board. And we can talk about Romander Stevenson
- 17:23Speaker 1: has been pretty good, but they're not a good running team.
- 17:26Speaker 1: They're not they I mean, he breaks some runs off
- 17:28Speaker 1: when he's able to get away from guys at the line,
- 17:30Speaker 1: but it's like everything say they average two and a
- 17:32Speaker 1: half yards of carry as a grin, like it's it's
- 17:35Speaker 1: just hasn't been hasn't been really good. Um. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you go back to the summer and when we were
- 17:41Speaker 1: doing our training camp casts from from up on the
- 17:45Speaker 1: red level, it's exactly what we saw. You know, like
- 17:48Speaker 1: you'd see like you could see like a player two
- 17:55Speaker 1: and then you'd have like two or three players and
- 17:57Speaker 1: you'd be like Oh that wasn't good. Oh, that didn't
- 17:59Speaker 1: look good. And that's what that's what we've seen. And
- 18:01Speaker 1: it's not like they go the whole game and they
- 18:03Speaker 1: don't make any plays like But the problem is when
- 18:08Speaker 1: you think back to the game like against the Colts
- 18:10Speaker 1: on Sunday, and you're like, oh, yeah, they had that
- 18:14Speaker 1: nice little screen to jon h Smith and then oh,
- 18:17Speaker 1: like Stevenson ripped off like a ten to twelve yard
- 18:19Speaker 1: run right after that. Oh, and yeah they had a
- 18:21Speaker 1: beautiful like thirty yard or down that seemed to Hunter
- 18:23Speaker 1: Henry when you're naming plays individually, and that's basically the
- 18:27Speaker 1: entirety of the production. Yeah, that's bad. You shouldn't be
- 18:30Speaker 1: able to do that. And that's not enough. I mean,
- 18:34Speaker 1: I mean, I just remember so many like contested catches
- 18:36Speaker 1: up the sideline and like that first day, you're like,
- 18:38Speaker 1: whoa defante Parker looks like he can, you know, tough
- 18:41Speaker 1: to handle one on one and with not a lot
- 18:43Speaker 1: of space when the ball is kind of tossed up
- 18:44Speaker 1: to him. But then you realize, like, what we're watching
- 18:47Speaker 1: right now is exactly what we've been watching, and that's
- 18:50Speaker 1: maybe the most toughest part to accept. It's just that
- 18:53Speaker 1: there's been no progress, and you would expect at this
- 18:56Speaker 1: point in the season that you would have something. And
- 18:58Speaker 1: I think that's why a lot of the questions keep
- 19:00Speaker 1: popping up of like what would you say the identity is? Bill?
- 19:02Speaker 1: You said in the past that it takes about, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: mid October to November to find out your identity. Do
- 19:06Speaker 1: you think you know what your identity as well? We don't.
- 19:08Speaker 1: We know more than we did, But I posit that
- 19:13Speaker 1: this is one year you know less about the offensive
- 19:15Speaker 1: side of the ball than you've ever known about either
- 19:18Speaker 1: side of the ball at this point in the season
- 19:20Speaker 1: when we're getting into you know, because even like in eighteen,
- 19:23Speaker 1: and that was the year that famously didn't really declare
- 19:27Speaker 1: itself until the last two games. You know, we were
- 19:30Speaker 1: mid to late December, and they had those two games
- 19:32Speaker 1: and they decided we're just we're gonna lean more heavily
- 19:35Speaker 1: on the running game. But it wasn't like this. It
- 19:39Speaker 1: wasn't like this. You know, they were they were more productive.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Now obviously they had better players too, So I'm not
- 19:45Speaker 1: trying to pin it all on, you know, just the
- 19:48Speaker 1: coaching and all that, but to you a point it's
- 19:53Speaker 1: it's everything. And yeah, I think I think Mac would
- 19:58Speaker 1: probably look more comfortable if you more confident in his protection.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But does that mean he's gonna play better? Does that
- 20:06Speaker 1: mean he's gonna see the field better? You know, does
- 20:09Speaker 1: that mean he's gonna like not overthrow because he like
- 20:13Speaker 1: the problem is what happens. Like you made a point
- 20:16Speaker 1: about his lack of comfort in the pocket a little,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know, a couple of minutes ago, And do you
- 20:24Speaker 1: think that there's a chance that maybe all the turnovers
- 20:28Speaker 1: and sort of the browbeating nature of the turnovers with
- 20:32Speaker 1: the coaches has like got him a little goal? Like
- 20:35Speaker 1: that's just like the first thing he said after one
- 20:37Speaker 1: of the first things out of the shoot, like, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: I was able to protect the ball today and that
- 20:41Speaker 1: was Yeah, that was a goal. Like and I listen,
- 20:45Speaker 1: the quarterbacks goal should never be uh, you know, let's
- 20:48Speaker 1: let's be a little loose with the football today and
- 20:50Speaker 1: see if we can win anyway. No, I mean, I
- 20:51Speaker 1: get got to protect the football. I understand how important
- 20:55Speaker 1: that is. But this is a kid who like three
- 20:57Speaker 1: weeks ago through an interception and got benched. Now there
- 21:01Speaker 1: wasn't a quote unquote Benching in name, but kind of
- 21:05Speaker 1: what it was. You know, he's thrown interceptions in like
- 21:08Speaker 1: six or seven games in a row. I wonder if
- 21:11Speaker 1: he's a little gun shy at this point, and it's like,
- 21:13Speaker 1: you know, I might have this this throw to make,
- 21:16Speaker 1: or I might have that throw to make, but I
- 21:18Speaker 1: don't want to throw an interception, and I'm not going
- 21:19Speaker 1: to throw an interception, you know, And maybe he's missing
- 21:22Speaker 1: some stuff as a result. Yeah, I just I mean,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and further to further that point, I just I don't
- 21:26Speaker 1: see him ever reset in the pocket and deliver the ball.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It's kind of either it comes out or he tucks
- 21:32Speaker 1: in and he's either getting sacked or running. There's not
- 21:35Speaker 1: you know. I just I think that's a critical skill,
- 21:37Speaker 1: especially for you know, a quarterback. We know he's not
- 21:39Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson. He's not just the fields. He's not one
- 21:41Speaker 1: of these guys who's going to tuck it and run
- 21:43Speaker 1: thirty yards. He needs to have short area awareness to
- 21:46Speaker 1: be able to find I mean, there's a lot of
- 21:47Speaker 1: times when you watch these plays and it's like, all right, dude,
- 21:50Speaker 1: you got to just take a little step to your
- 21:51Speaker 1: right and find the guy instead of just go right
- 21:55Speaker 1: into the pressure and turtle. So I don't know where
- 21:58Speaker 1: to start. Let me, I don't either. But you know,
- 22:01Speaker 1: the league is, you know, sometimes it's about trends. You know,
- 22:04Speaker 1: things trends happen. And to me that there's a trend
- 22:08Speaker 1: going on right now where offenses are kind of being
- 22:10Speaker 1: stifled a little bit, you know, offenses with better quarterbacks
- 22:14Speaker 1: than we have, you know, And I'm just wondering if
- 22:16Speaker 1: that's happening to like the Patrick Mahomes of the world. Um,
- 22:20Speaker 1: it's not happening to him, by the way, not him,
- 22:22Speaker 1: He's not. He would not be a good example. Well
- 22:25Speaker 1: he only scoring out of playing out of his mind.
- 22:27Speaker 1: He is. But the offense isn't scoring a lot of points.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Oh yes it is. I mean, Fred, come on, well,
- 22:33Speaker 1: how many points did a score last week? So you're
- 22:36Speaker 1: gonna just cherry pick one game they I mean they
- 22:38Speaker 1: lost to the Colts early. I mean it's has six
- 22:41Speaker 1: and two, I know, But I'm talking about total offensive performance.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I think I think offenses points are down. I went
- 22:50Speaker 1: down over the league. That was the Jets figured out
- 22:54Speaker 1: a way to stop Josh Allen. Now I don't know
- 22:56Speaker 1: when he hurt his elbow with the game. Really, really,
- 23:00Speaker 1: we're just gonna go off of like individual games, Like,
- 23:02Speaker 1: let's go off of like Tampa in the Rams before.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Those are good offenses that haven't been good all year. Well,
- 23:07Speaker 1: don't pick the teams that that are the most explosive. No,
- 23:10Speaker 1: I am picking the teams are the most anybody can
- 23:12Speaker 1: get stopped for one game. I am picking the point
- 23:15Speaker 1: teams that are most explosive because their production is down
- 23:19Speaker 1: in addition to other teams. You know, but it's not
- 23:23Speaker 1: that's my point. Those two teams that you're talking about
- 23:26Speaker 1: are not in this discussion. Well, I think like Tampa
- 23:29Speaker 1: the Rams, those teams, those are good offenses that have
- 23:32Speaker 1: done nothing all year. Yeah. I just think that since, yes,
- 23:35Speaker 1: since you a little bit, they started going getting going
- 23:40Speaker 1: a little bit. Overall throughout the league, points are down. Yes,
- 23:44Speaker 1: the points are down. I would agree with that, you know,
- 23:46Speaker 1: and so you know the Patriots aren't immune from that,
- 23:50Speaker 1: you know. That's all I'm saying that there's a trend
- 23:53Speaker 1: going on right now, and I don't know what it is.
- 23:55Speaker 1: You know, Paul didn't allow me to finish, but maybe
- 23:58Speaker 1: now I think your larger point is valid. Okay, Now,
- 24:00Speaker 1: he'll maybe he'll let me finish. So I don't know
- 24:02Speaker 1: what's going on and for that to happen. I don't
- 24:05Speaker 1: know if it's like, you know, no preseason and offenses
- 24:09Speaker 1: are just not you know, defenses are ahead of the offenses.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And maybe things will turn around it. But it seems
- 24:15Speaker 1: to be a trend where offensive production is down yes year,
- 24:19Speaker 1: and I think I think the prevalence of cover two
- 24:21Speaker 1: and playing and taking away the deep ball that that
- 24:23Speaker 1: might be part of it too. My whole thing is though,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I just I feel like the Patriots are outside of
- 24:27Speaker 1: that margin of era. Like if they were an average offense,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I might say, well there, that's the things they're like.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I mean, they're not that great, so it affects them
- 24:35Speaker 1: even more. And they can't they just I mean, they
- 24:38Speaker 1: can't do anything right now. Yeah, So what do you
- 24:40Speaker 1: think Kansas City averages perty game? Probably about twenty eight
- 24:44Speaker 1: thirty all right, thirty? But what it's only the best
- 24:46Speaker 1: in the league. Okay, but I'm telling you points are down,
- 24:51Speaker 1: but those but I'm just telling you that particular team isn't. Yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 1: and Buffalo isn't either, Okay, but I mean Buffalo's third
- 24:58Speaker 1: in the league. I mean, I don't know how the
- 25:00Speaker 1: manage to beat Kansas City this year? How did that happen?
- 25:04Speaker 1: They won? I don't know. What do you mean, how
- 25:06Speaker 1: did it happen? The Colts have a good defense. Okay,
- 25:07Speaker 1: they have a good you know. I mean I don't know.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I mean, like, how do again, I don't know, how
- 25:11Speaker 1: did the Jets manage to be How does the team
- 25:14Speaker 1: ever not go undefeated? Based on your theory, I know,
- 25:16Speaker 1: but like you're gonna lose games during the course of
- 25:19Speaker 1: the year. Okay, okay, but I'm just saying they had
- 25:21Speaker 1: a bad day. Points are down throughout the league, you know.
- 25:24Speaker 1: And I'm not even talking about Aaron Rodgers and all
- 25:27Speaker 1: that stuff. That's a mess, right, you know. But but
- 25:30Speaker 1: I think those are the examples that I would use.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Is Green Bay, Tampa Bay, the Rant, the ROMs. I mean,
- 25:36Speaker 1: those are teams with good personnel on offense and for
- 25:40Speaker 1: whatever reason, probably different reasons, you know. Again, I'll stick
- 25:43Speaker 1: to your your larger point, which I agree with. I
- 25:48Speaker 1: I do think points are down in the league, but
- 25:51Speaker 1: we we could probably look at different reasons all over
- 25:54Speaker 1: the place for these you know, good personnel. We'll say
- 25:58Speaker 1: on paper, yeah, those team teams have good offensive you know,
- 26:01Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford should be better
- 26:05Speaker 1: offensively than those teams have been, regardless of what your
- 26:07Speaker 1: issues are. And I know there are issues in Tampa
- 26:10Speaker 1: with the offensive line. I know there are issues in
- 26:12Speaker 1: Green Bay with the receivers, and I know that there
- 26:15Speaker 1: are issues with the Rams with their offensive line. Yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 1: he should be better than that. And friend's right. I
- 26:22Speaker 1: don't know what the answer is. I just wonder if
- 26:24Speaker 1: like defenses are catching up, if there's a trend going
- 26:27Speaker 1: on that offenses haven't figured out, like I don't know.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I don't know. It is a weird trend because it
- 26:32Speaker 1: felt like in recent years that it's just offense offense,
- 26:35Speaker 1: offense offense. I mean it was it was the proliferation
- 26:38Speaker 1: of all these wide receivers and you know, all the
- 26:41Speaker 1: movement that was being made specifically where teams felt like
- 26:43Speaker 1: we need to get an elite guy. It's it's interesting.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I think it's probably worth
- 26:49Speaker 1: a bigger study. At the end of the look it
- 26:51Speaker 1: plays out. Look at La I'm not La Las Vegas,
- 26:54Speaker 1: for example. I mean, they've got some good people on
- 26:57Speaker 1: that team. Probably one of the best receivers in the league. Again,
- 27:00Speaker 1: I think cars, you know, a good quarterback. They get
- 27:05Speaker 1: a lead and they can't well that's that's the weird
- 27:07Speaker 1: thing for them. Yeah, you know, they they lost a
- 27:10Speaker 1: seventeen point lead in the game five times in the
- 27:12Speaker 1: history of the franchise. They've done it three times, I know.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And they get a lead and then it just stops.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Like the other team just like they score enough points
- 27:20Speaker 1: to win, but they don't score consistently. And it's hard
- 27:23Speaker 1: to do it that way because, like to Fred's point, yeah,
- 27:26Speaker 1: you got it, like a twenty point lead. All you
- 27:28Speaker 1: gotta do is move the ball a little bit the
- 27:30Speaker 1: rest of the game. You don't even have to score anymore, right, Yeah,
- 27:32Speaker 1: And all of a sudden they go from we can't
- 27:34Speaker 1: be stopped to we can't move and like you know,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Paul's talking about the Rams and the Bucks. I mean,
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm listening. I was listening to the game on the
- 27:41Speaker 1: way home, and like, you know, the Bucks should not
- 27:45Speaker 1: have won that game. The Rams couldn't even get a
- 27:47Speaker 1: first down in the fourth quarter. Every time, you know, like, oh,
- 27:50Speaker 1: the Bucks get another shot at it, and then they
- 27:52Speaker 1: get another shot at it, and well, did you find
- 27:54Speaker 1: the play that the guy? I didn't see any of it.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I was listening on the way home, and they didn't
- 27:58Speaker 1: really describe it very well. I think it was was
- 28:01Speaker 1: a cup that they gave the ball in the second
- 28:04Speaker 1: down and he could have he could have gotten the
- 28:06Speaker 1: first down, but he was two uh hell bent on
- 28:11Speaker 1: staying in bounds and he slid and he was like
- 28:15Speaker 1: a couple of yards short of the first down. And
- 28:17Speaker 1: then they didn't get it on third down. It's like,
- 28:19Speaker 1: just put your head down, get the first down. Who
- 28:21Speaker 1: cares if you go out of bounds? The first down
- 28:23Speaker 1: ends the game. Yeah, that was pretty pretty good performance
- 28:26Speaker 1: by by TB there Brady. It was brutal, Like did
- 28:29Speaker 1: you see that? No? I showed that drive there was
- 28:32Speaker 1: like it was unbelievable. And how bad the ramp the
- 28:36Speaker 1: drive before that he had the touchdown yea. And that
- 28:40Speaker 1: was where I thought there was a chance. I thought
- 28:43Speaker 1: I thought there was a chance that Brady was going
- 28:46Speaker 1: to kill somebody, just walk off the field and say
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm done. I choose shots on run. Oh do you
- 28:51Speaker 1: hear the rumors this morning or not? The rumors, but
- 28:53Speaker 1: the speculation about that he's coming back to hear Yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 1: because Belle check has been over the top, and I
- 29:04Speaker 1: guess Brady on his podcast was glowing about Belichick and
- 29:08Speaker 1: they're coming, they're coming back, they're getting him back together.
- 29:11Speaker 1: He's got to be a free agent. He's coming back.
- 29:13Speaker 1: What would you give him? What would I give him?
- 29:16Speaker 1: Whatever he wants? Um, well, they won't. I'm asking what
- 29:19Speaker 1: I would give him? Thirty million dollars guaranteed for one
- 29:22Speaker 1: year and then we'll see about year two. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:27Speaker 1: would be crazy. What would that get it done? Probably? No,
- 29:31Speaker 1: I don't think so. Yeah, I don't know. He's when
- 29:36Speaker 1: he's a new, newly single guy though, So I don't know, right,
- 29:38Speaker 1: we might, we might want to be out in LA.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You might want to be in New York. Well, everybody's
- 29:42Speaker 1: saying San Francisco is the obvious. That's that's what it
- 29:45Speaker 1: seems like. Yeah, what about the Giants? I just thought
- 29:47Speaker 1: of that. Daniel Jones, why they get it going? Danie
- 29:51Speaker 1: Jones free agent though? Yeah? Dable? Yeah, I don't know.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I don't know. It's just it's a you know, obviously,
- 29:57Speaker 1: it's a very short term thing. No matter who we
- 30:00Speaker 1: goes to. Um, so like, is this like a serious thing,
- 30:03Speaker 1: yeah from who Oh, no, it's they were just talking
- 30:06Speaker 1: about it. They were seriously talking about but who you're
- 30:09Speaker 1: one of your morning shows? Oh yeah, your show so
- 30:12Speaker 1: clout like us just just fooling around. Yeah, no I'm not.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I'm not like poo pooing talk radio. I love it. Yeah.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I just was wondering if like someone had a report
- 30:20Speaker 1: about it. No, no reports. Yeah, I can't see that happening.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Although his oldest son, Jack is going to school in
- 30:28Speaker 1: Western mass Oh where dear Field? Yeah, so nice, you know,
- 30:34Speaker 1: and academy, and there's rumors that he's shopping for a
- 30:37Speaker 1: place to live out there the Western mass Yeah, it's
- 30:41Speaker 1: gonna be a tough, tough tough to find something else there.
- 30:44Speaker 1: He doesn't have to please Gisella. Where's Alex? She could
- 30:46Speaker 1: probably give him some point. So there's a lot of
- 30:48Speaker 1: you know, look at this show and the bucks not
- 30:51Speaker 1: look at this like this is ridiculous. Yeah, guys, they're
- 30:56Speaker 1: giving him the sideline, which is they they would give
- 30:59Speaker 1: it Hi yards in the sideline. Yeah. Anyway, good for Tom,
- 31:04Speaker 1: Good for Tom. Ye. So you know, I'm just getting
- 31:08Speaker 1: back to our offensive talk. I'm just I'm just you know,
- 31:12Speaker 1: thinking about anything right now. You know, uh, that could
- 31:16Speaker 1: be a possible explanation or a contributor to what's going
- 31:20Speaker 1: on with the Patriots, you know. Yeah. And as much
- 31:23Speaker 1: as I feel like Mac does deserve some criticism, um,
- 31:28Speaker 1: I just go back to whatever we came up with
- 31:30Speaker 1: in the spring, bad idea jeans. It just didn't It
- 31:33Speaker 1: didn't work. I mean, I don't know how you can
- 31:34Speaker 1: how you can sit here and be like what we
- 31:37Speaker 1: had it was it did all that work in the
- 31:39Speaker 1: spring in early summer or most of the summer, Did
- 31:42Speaker 1: that you know, set them back? Was it wasted time? Yeah?
- 31:46Speaker 1: I think so. I mean he's a yeah, so like
- 31:51Speaker 1: if you had spent that time on just building off
- 31:55Speaker 1: last year instead, would it have been better? You know,
- 31:58Speaker 1: I don't know. And then then you get back to Okay,
- 32:01Speaker 1: well but you had two coaches who weren't coaching offense
- 32:04Speaker 1: here last year. Yeah, and would it have mattered? You know,
- 32:08Speaker 1: what are they building on? They're they're learning it from
- 32:10Speaker 1: the beginning, and you know it's a good point. Yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: I don't know. I just don't know where you go
- 32:15Speaker 1: from here, because I mean, I would I think most
- 32:19Speaker 1: people probably at this point would say you have to
- 32:21Speaker 1: bring in an offensive coordinator and you have to have
- 32:24Speaker 1: an offensive line coach, and those are two things that
- 32:27Speaker 1: need to happen to change. And I think there's a
- 32:29Speaker 1: chance that they could bring in an offensive line I
- 32:31Speaker 1: think so too, because that protects Mandy peb will just
- 32:33Speaker 1: let him focus fall. Well, if the Coats can hire
- 32:35Speaker 1: Jeff Saturday ors a head coach, can we hire Tom
- 32:37Speaker 1: Brady as our offensive coordinator? Friends really determined to get
- 32:42Speaker 1: Brady back anyway, So here's my here's my prediction. Like
- 32:47Speaker 1: when you you kept talking about the the defenses have
- 32:52Speaker 1: been better? Yeah, right, you know the offenses are down.
- 32:55Speaker 1: You know, it could be just the offense as a words,
- 32:57Speaker 1: It may not be the defense. Oh I mean I
- 32:59Speaker 1: didn't really think of it that way, but I do
- 33:01Speaker 1: think that one of the things that everybody talks about,
- 33:04Speaker 1: and you know, I don't break down the stuff to
- 33:07Speaker 1: this minute detail, but you know, like the two high
- 33:13Speaker 1: safeties and you know, keeping everything in front and making
- 33:16Speaker 1: everybody do you know, and so like really only the
- 33:19Speaker 1: really really good. So I think, what what is maybe happening?
- 33:24Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's it's nothing's ever as
- 33:26Speaker 1: simple as that, Like, it's not just playing two deep
- 33:29Speaker 1: safeties and all of a sudden offenses can't move. Like, no,
- 33:32Speaker 1: it's not. It's not as simple as that. But I
- 33:34Speaker 1: do wonder if this offense it's sort of a new
- 33:38Speaker 1: age offense the last say, I don't know, eight ten years,
- 33:42Speaker 1: five years, you know, with you know these read options
- 33:46Speaker 1: and spreads and stuff like that. Maybe defenses it took
- 33:51Speaker 1: a while, but they finally figured it out. My prediction
- 33:54Speaker 1: for next year will be offenses will now be spending
- 33:57Speaker 1: the entirety of the offseason trying to figure out how
- 34:01Speaker 1: to best attack the adjustments that the defense made. And
- 34:04Speaker 1: that's the way it goes. It goes in cycles, right, Yeah,
- 34:06Speaker 1: I don't know if it's schematically, I means have some
- 34:10Speaker 1: part of it. I think, you know, more than just like,
- 34:12Speaker 1: oh they're playing more Cover two. I like, it's just philosophically.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I think the way offenses have been going and so
- 34:17Speaker 1: many of these offenses that have those big explosive plays,
- 34:20Speaker 1: the Tyree Hills, I mean that that just became such
- 34:22Speaker 1: a key part. Now maybe it's just philosophically. Now we
- 34:26Speaker 1: just we are down to down making sure we do
- 34:29Speaker 1: not get beat deep, whether you're playing Cover two, whatever
- 34:31Speaker 1: you're doing. Um, you know you're just you're way more
- 34:34Speaker 1: concerned now maybe with just giving up the big plays
- 34:37Speaker 1: and not allowing those things to happen. And you know,
- 34:39Speaker 1: ensuring you have personality. That's always been the rule of
- 34:42Speaker 1: Cover two, right, it is you know the cover two shell. Um,
- 34:46Speaker 1: you know us then I remember that night in Minnesota
- 34:52Speaker 1: was a night game, and you know that that was
- 34:54Speaker 1: their defense. And you know, the Patriots had the answer
- 34:59Speaker 1: to that defense because Brady would do it in twelve place, right.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Brady would not make a mistake. Brady would just carve
- 35:04Speaker 1: it up. And they never change. They just insisted on
- 35:07Speaker 1: doing that defense, which probably it would have been worse
- 35:10Speaker 1: if they hadn't because that's what they do. But I mean,
- 35:15Speaker 1: cover two, like Paul said, it forces you to, you know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: take what they give you underneath and just move the
- 35:21Speaker 1: ball downfield and don't make a mistake and be precise.
- 35:24Speaker 1: And yeah, I think when you have problems with the
- 35:27Speaker 1: offensive line, Patriots are certainly in that category. But you know,
- 35:31Speaker 1: some of those other guys like Tampa in the Rams,
- 35:35Speaker 1: that's probably part of the reason. Like if if you
- 35:37Speaker 1: need to go seven for seven on a drive and
- 35:41Speaker 1: you're having problems to the offensive line, sooner or later
- 35:43Speaker 1: you're gonna have to get the ball out quicker than
- 35:45Speaker 1: you want, and you're gonna miss one or get sacked
- 35:47Speaker 1: and get behind the chains. Yeah, so it's good stuff.
- 35:52Speaker 1: We just got to figure it out. We got two weeks, right,
- 35:54Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, we'll get it. Guys are probably taken
- 35:58Speaker 1: off tomorrow. You know, they'll have Thursday, Friday, Saturday and
- 36:02Speaker 1: Sunday off and they'll be back on Monday practice of
- 36:05Speaker 1: ail tomorrow. So you know, maybe we could get an
- 36:07Speaker 1: early glimpse of of of getting somebody back like David Andrews.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I mean, I know a lot of people are painting
- 36:12Speaker 1: him as the as the savior of the offensive line.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the case, but they certainly
- 36:17Speaker 1: were better when he was in there. So you know,
- 36:19Speaker 1: does that give Cole strange new life? Do you know,
- 36:22Speaker 1: his return all of a sudden, just all right, Cole's back.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He can play next to David um. But I know,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I was talking to Tease upstairs and we was kind
- 36:29Speaker 1: of like, you know, he was like joking, like we
- 36:31Speaker 1: got to replace the whole offensive line, and I'm like, well,
- 36:32Speaker 1: what do you what do you really do in the
- 36:34Speaker 1: off season, Like, I mean, you're not going to replace someoney.
- 36:36Speaker 1: If you're replacing that's that's a that's everybody loves David
- 36:40Speaker 1: and yeah, yeah, you know everybody loves David Andrews right now.
- 36:44Speaker 1: So you know, I mean, it's clearly you're you're gonna
- 36:46Speaker 1: need at least one tackle. But I just think the
- 36:49Speaker 1: coaching has to be has to be better too, because
- 36:51Speaker 1: I've seen offensive lines look crappy in the beginning of
- 36:54Speaker 1: the year and then they tend to get on the
- 36:55Speaker 1: same page and they tend to start to play better
- 36:57Speaker 1: with good coaching and the blown you know, the certainly
- 37:00Speaker 1: blown coverages, the blown blocks, you know, guys, the free
- 37:02Speaker 1: rushers that happen early on those aren't happening as much.
- 37:05Speaker 1: But it's just it's not in sync. You know, there's
- 37:07Speaker 1: nothing you see those plays well execute at the timing
- 37:10Speaker 1: of guys pulling and blocks that happening at the right
- 37:13Speaker 1: time and the hole opening up at the precise moment.
- 37:15Speaker 1: It's just, you know, it's it's not like that. It's
- 37:17Speaker 1: you know, Stevenson dodges, a guy runs over a guy,
- 37:20Speaker 1: and now he's in the open field and now he
- 37:21Speaker 1: takes off. You know, it's not oh he just blew
- 37:24Speaker 1: through that hole. I mean I saw a couple runs
- 37:26Speaker 1: the other night with Derek Henry, my boy. But you know,
- 37:29Speaker 1: you just sometimes you watch other teams and you say
- 37:31Speaker 1: it's striking to me sometimes of whoa, yeah, yeah, we
- 37:34Speaker 1: don't really see that, do We were just kind of
- 37:36Speaker 1: the sea's part and he's gone. You know, those everything
- 37:39Speaker 1: they've had to get this year, they've had to scratch
- 37:42Speaker 1: tooth and nail for every every last inch. Yeah, all right,
- 37:45Speaker 1: eight five five paths five hundred is the eight stick
- 37:47Speaker 1: at hot line web radio. At patriots dot com is
- 37:50Speaker 1: the email address. Let's start the phone calls off with Todd,
- 37:54Speaker 1: North Carolina. Hey, Todd, Hey, So do I sound like
- 37:58Speaker 1: I'm in a bubble today? Or is it okay? Little better?
- 38:00Speaker 1: A little better and not a lot of not as
- 38:02Speaker 1: much background noise either, you know, Okay, I got it. Yeah,
- 38:06Speaker 1: I've been you know, I'm the house guy because I'm
- 38:08Speaker 1: not allowed to work and I try to take care
- 38:10Speaker 1: of the house. That's probably was me doing dishes or something. Eyeball. Yeah, Okay,
- 38:15Speaker 1: what I'm concerned about is the is the offense getting better?
- 38:21Speaker 1: And I hear a lot of talk about the old
- 38:22Speaker 1: line and all this, and I'm just like, what happened? Why?
- 38:27Speaker 1: Why did our old line drop off from last year
- 38:30Speaker 1: to this year? Even I don't understand, like it doesn't
- 38:32Speaker 1: seem like we change too many things, Like what really?
- 38:37Speaker 1: Like what can we say it's going wrong? Is it? Just?
- 38:39Speaker 1: Is it? Yeah? I mean, this is it. There's a lot.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's a like I'm scratching my head too.
- 38:45Speaker 1: But I think you know, obviously right now it's Andrews.
- 38:48Speaker 1: But I think a lot of it starts with Win.
- 38:51Speaker 1: You know, when was the first round pick, okay, and
- 38:54Speaker 1: he wasn't playing up to first round level when he
- 38:57Speaker 1: was at left tackle, and then they switched them to
- 39:01Speaker 1: right tackle and moved Trent Brown over there, and you
- 39:04Speaker 1: have to say that you know that didn't work, right,
- 39:07Speaker 1: It didn't work. Should they have left me left tackle
- 39:11Speaker 1: and move went over and kept Win at right tackle?
- 39:13Speaker 1: I mean because they were better when they were doing that,
- 39:16Speaker 1: you know, Um, so it's it started there. Then you
- 39:20Speaker 1: know you've got a rookie yet left guard who really
- 39:23Speaker 1: you know, if you're going to draft a guy in
- 39:25Speaker 1: the first round as a guard. He better start right
- 39:27Speaker 1: away and better be you know, good, and he's had
- 39:31Speaker 1: his troubles and you know that's part of the only
- 39:34Speaker 1: stable force so far has been on when you at
- 39:38Speaker 1: at right at right guard, that's it. Are we at
- 39:41Speaker 1: the point where we say switched Brown and Win back,
- 39:44Speaker 1: like reverse the tackle through. I don't think they want
- 39:46Speaker 1: to do that because you know, like it's the situation.
- 39:50Speaker 1: You know, it's a situation with Win you know, like
- 39:53Speaker 1: he's gone probably after this year. Yeah, but I would,
- 39:56Speaker 1: I would try it as a measure of desperation. I'm
- 39:59Speaker 1: kind with Todd what what what can it be worse
- 40:02Speaker 1: than this? Yeah, a lot of people are calling for
- 40:06Speaker 1: on when you to go to right tackle? You know,
- 40:10Speaker 1: who plays right guard? That's the thing, like who goes
- 40:13Speaker 1: now into right guard? You know? Is that could juiced? Yeah?
- 40:16Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I think it's worth pointing out too,
- 40:18Speaker 1: Like last year years I ever played guard, I think
- 40:20Speaker 1: he has well. And the other thing I'll say, like,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you know, like what has changed. I know everybody thought
- 40:28Speaker 1: the offensive line was going to be better. They lost
- 40:30Speaker 1: two starters in the offensive line and they haven't played
- 40:33Speaker 1: as well this year as they did last year. It's
- 40:34Speaker 1: funny how that works. Yeah, and not just I mean
- 40:36Speaker 1: and and two guys who have been around a while,
- 40:38Speaker 1: So you're talking about the center year line last year
- 40:41Speaker 1: was Teddy Kay who's been around forever. David Andrews and
- 40:44Speaker 1: Shack Mason. I mean, these are you know, guys who
- 40:46Speaker 1: have played a ton together, know each other. And I
- 40:48Speaker 1: mean that's a great starting point to be one more
- 40:51Speaker 1: point to make. I just I also wonder psychologically what
- 40:54Speaker 1: that did to win? Like, did that did they? I
- 40:56Speaker 1: mean I never really thought he was, you know, the
- 40:58Speaker 1: most invested guy anyway, but I just wonder if that
- 41:01Speaker 1: if that psychologically affected him where I'm like, what, No,
- 41:05Speaker 1: I don't play right right tack. I'm not well listen,
- 41:08Speaker 1: you know, we we don't really think about it as
- 41:10Speaker 1: much as the players do, but it always comes down
- 41:12Speaker 1: to money. And if you're moving me from left tackle
- 41:16Speaker 1: to right tackle, that might affect my pocketbook when as
- 41:20Speaker 1: I become a free agent, right you know that's that's like, yeah, okay, thanks,
- 41:26Speaker 1: all right, thanks Todd. Let's go over to speeding Fresno.
- 41:30Speaker 1: What's up? Speed? Ain't no liars? The bye bye bye
- 41:34Speaker 1: think um uh, but I'd love a montage of you
- 41:40Speaker 1: of you, like complaining about the background noise and everybody's
- 41:42Speaker 1: phone call. I could be I could be worse. I'm
- 41:46Speaker 1: very I'm lenient that way. People tell me I'm too lenient. Yeah,
- 41:52Speaker 1: you're a very nice man. Um uh yeah, I was.
- 41:57Speaker 1: You got me wistful about the Brady thing, and I
- 42:00Speaker 1: was thinking it would be if he comes back for
- 42:02Speaker 1: a year, it'd be so good until it looks like
- 42:04Speaker 1: twenty nineteen again and we're all miserable. Like um, Like,
- 42:09Speaker 1: I was wondering, like, how would Brady be with this line?
- 42:12Speaker 1: You know, it'd be better, but I don't know how
- 42:14Speaker 1: much better it would be. Yeah, you know, might get hurt,
- 42:16Speaker 1: You get pissed at the podium like ninety percent of
- 42:19Speaker 1: the time if PA is dealing with this offensive line. Yeah,
- 42:22Speaker 1: but but but it's uh. I was thinking about the
- 42:26Speaker 1: defense this year or like, you know, not the cherry
- 42:29Speaker 1: pick the recent you know success, But they looked they
- 42:31Speaker 1: looked pretty good this past we again and then but
- 42:34Speaker 1: then thinking back to twenty nineteen, I know the Boogeyman
- 42:36Speaker 1: faded for a lot of reasons, but I think one
- 42:39Speaker 1: of them was because the offense started to let him down,
- 42:41Speaker 1: and so they were like, what are we doing this for?
- 42:43Speaker 1: I could see the defense doing that this year. It's
- 42:45Speaker 1: like the offense does nothing, but eventually they start the
- 42:47Speaker 1: kind of turtle too, you know. Yeah, yeah, but you know,
- 42:52Speaker 1: let's not let's be objective about that. If the turtling
- 42:57Speaker 1: happens against the Bills, let's say, with a healthy Josh Allen,
- 43:00Speaker 1: then don't say that, Oh, it's just because the offense
- 43:04Speaker 1: isn't giving them hope. You know, we have to be
- 43:06Speaker 1: objective in how we look at it. And then again,
- 43:09Speaker 1: a good defense from the Jets was able to stand
- 43:11Speaker 1: into the Bill. Yeah, that's true. And well that's what
- 43:14Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like, there's gotta be a way. Like you know,
- 43:17Speaker 1: last night, what was the score of the Baltimore in
- 43:20Speaker 1: uh thirteen? Okay? Or was it that much? Was it
- 43:25Speaker 1: that close? I thought it was it was okay. I
- 43:31Speaker 1: didn't see one play at the game. I just know
- 43:32Speaker 1: what the school was was. I watched the whole first half.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Actually I didn't watch any of it. Yeah it's nice.
- 43:37Speaker 1: I watched a little bit. Um. Yeah, it just seems
- 43:41Speaker 1: other teams are able to you know, corral these quarterbacks
- 43:44Speaker 1: better than we can. Yeah, that was I mean last
- 43:47Speaker 1: night what I was watching, I was focused on Damario
- 43:49Speaker 1: with Davis because I was just curious. I mean, he's
- 43:51Speaker 1: he's excellent. I mean, and that's I think when I
- 43:53Speaker 1: look at what this team needs when they get against
- 43:55Speaker 1: the quarterback like Lamar, it's that kind of guy who
- 43:59Speaker 1: you know, it just says anticipation and you know, I
- 44:02Speaker 1: just I like Jawan Bentley. I think he's a tough
- 44:05Speaker 1: inside player and he definitely makes some plays. I just
- 44:08Speaker 1: don't know if he's that plus level anticipator, able to
- 44:12Speaker 1: read through all the fake handoffs and all that Shenan
- 44:15Speaker 1: against that those teams do. Now. I say that Malarta
- 44:19Speaker 1: a day yesterday, even with Tomorrow Davis out there. So
- 44:21Speaker 1: it's you know, there's no easy answer against those guys.
- 44:24Speaker 1: But I think that's a big thing for the defenses,
- 44:26Speaker 1: you know, stolving Josh Allen. I don't know, he just
- 44:30Speaker 1: kind of had an off game. I think it gets
- 44:31Speaker 1: the Jets through a couple terrible interceptions. He got hurt
- 44:34Speaker 1: at the very end. I mean, he's just I don't know.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Sometimes I wonder if he's just bored. Well, I think like, listen, thanks,
- 44:42Speaker 1: there is an element like I think I said it
- 44:45Speaker 1: last Thursday, like they've had some stinkers at the Metal Lands.
- 44:48Speaker 1: They generally win them, but their games like that, you know,
- 44:52Speaker 1: let's just say the last drive at the end, they
- 44:53Speaker 1: went down, they scored a touchdown, and they end up
- 44:55Speaker 1: finding a way to win it. They've had games like
- 44:58Speaker 1: that a lot. Now, I think that there's a bigger
- 45:01Speaker 1: problem there with that elbow, and that would scare the
- 45:03Speaker 1: crap out of me if I, you know, were a
- 45:05Speaker 1: Bills fan. That throw that he had to Digs was alarmable,
- 45:11Speaker 1: like he's short hopping a throw and grabbing his arm
- 45:14Speaker 1: like that ain't good. So I'm not saying that he
- 45:18Speaker 1: dealt with that the whole game. I think the Jets
- 45:20Speaker 1: do play good defense and all that, but jeez, I
- 45:24Speaker 1: hope he feels better. No, no, I'm not. I don't
- 45:28Speaker 1: know what, Like, I don't know how he was dealing
- 45:30Speaker 1: with that during the game. I'm saying. I don't want
- 45:32Speaker 1: to take away from the Jets defense, is what my
- 45:34Speaker 1: point is, because I think the Jets do have a
- 45:36Speaker 1: good defense. I don't know if he was dealing with
- 45:39Speaker 1: it with discomfort all game, right, But I don't want
- 45:42Speaker 1: to take away from the Jets defense either, because my
- 45:44Speaker 1: guess is if he was dealing with discomfort all game,
- 45:47Speaker 1: he's probably been dealing with discomfort periodically all year. Like
- 45:51Speaker 1: it didn't just happen. Yeah, well, I mean there was
- 45:53Speaker 1: one play at the end. I mean that was like
- 45:54Speaker 1: I think the second and last drive that they showed
- 45:57Speaker 1: him get kind of bent, like what I saw. That
- 45:59Speaker 1: was what they said when it happened near the end
- 46:01Speaker 1: of the game. See, that would be a better specific.
- 46:03Speaker 1: That would be a better case scenario for the Bills
- 46:05Speaker 1: if it was like a like a specific. Yeah, that's
- 46:10Speaker 1: as opposed to like he tore a ligament. There's nothing
- 46:13Speaker 1: we can do. He's needs Tommy John surgery. I think
- 46:16Speaker 1: I think he's gonna need Tommy John. I think regardless,
- 46:19Speaker 1: I think he's gonna have Tommy John surgery after the
- 46:21Speaker 1: season if he plays the rest of the way, because
- 46:23Speaker 1: I could see him just saying I can play through this.
- 46:25Speaker 1: You know, I can run, I can make plays whatever. Um.
- 46:30Speaker 1: But I think he's gonna need to get that fixed
- 46:32Speaker 1: at some point because he didn't. I mean that didn't
- 46:34Speaker 1: look right now it was did you see the last
- 46:36Speaker 1: play of the game. Fred, No, they had fourth and
- 46:38Speaker 1: twenty one, and he rolled out to his left and
- 46:40Speaker 1: threw on seventy yards Like I just I mean, it
- 46:44Speaker 1: was good coverage and it was incomplete, but like, this
- 46:48Speaker 1: is a guy who supposedly as Tommy John needs Tommy
- 46:51Speaker 1: John surgon and he made a throw that I would
- 46:53Speaker 1: say ninety five of the quarterbacks in the league aren't
- 46:56Speaker 1: capable of making. Right, it was Tommy John the first
- 46:58Speaker 1: guy to get the surgery or need to invent the
- 47:00Speaker 1: surgery both. No, het, he was the first guy together.
- 47:04Speaker 1: My name is Tommy John. Let's go with Chris with
- 47:06Speaker 1: a T, I A N. Hey Christian, Hey, guys, how's
- 47:10Speaker 1: it going good? Good? I am so. I just wanted
- 47:14Speaker 1: to get your thoughts on obviously on the offense, and
- 47:17Speaker 1: I you know, from my point of view, it's it's
- 47:20Speaker 1: almost impossible for me to imagine that a team can
- 47:23Speaker 1: have all these hours and days and weeks and months
- 47:27Speaker 1: of practices and meetings and get progressively worse on that
- 47:31Speaker 1: side of the ball. I just don't understand it. And
- 47:34Speaker 1: my question for you guys is, you know, even when
- 47:37Speaker 1: you were like looking back in the spring and in
- 47:39Speaker 1: the summer and they were struggling. Was there a party
- 47:43Speaker 1: that said, they're probably not going to be that good,
- 47:46Speaker 1: but there are NFL caliber players here and they should
- 47:51Speaker 1: be able to move the ball and score points with
- 47:54Speaker 1: some regularity. Yeah. I mean I figured, you know, Okay,
- 47:58Speaker 1: they're experimenting right now, it's not working. They'll go back
- 48:01Speaker 1: to what they know and it'll be okay. Yeah, because
- 48:03Speaker 1: we know Matt can do something, right, Like, we know
- 48:05Speaker 1: they've got something in the bag, something that they're going
- 48:08Speaker 1: to fall back to that they know they can do. Yeah,
- 48:10Speaker 1: you know, and they haven't even been able to do
- 48:13Speaker 1: that right now. And that's what when you were out
- 48:15Speaker 1: Paul and I were saying, like it looks the same,
- 48:17Speaker 1: Like this is what we saw in camp, sporadic couple
- 48:20Speaker 1: plays here and there. Otherwise they struggle to really string
- 48:23Speaker 1: anything together. Yeah. I think of that Vegas practice, like
- 48:27Speaker 1: how horrific that was, and and you know, another game. Um,
- 48:32Speaker 1: I just keep thinking of that, and I'm like, how
- 48:34Speaker 1: how could they know it get better? It's it's funny.
- 48:37Speaker 1: It's it's funny bring that up. Sorry to interrupt your
- 48:39Speaker 1: Christian but like like they had a good, good end
- 48:42Speaker 1: of practice drives those two days against the Raiders, Like
- 48:44Speaker 1: it was probably the highlight of anything I've seen from
- 48:48Speaker 1: the Patriots offense since the start of preseason, and you
- 48:52Speaker 1: haven't seen that. I mean, those were like, you know,
- 48:53Speaker 1: clutch situations, were on the clock, were on the down
- 48:55Speaker 1: and distance everything and they and they put two touchdowns up.
- 48:58Speaker 1: So you know, it's just funny to bring it out
- 49:01Speaker 1: because that was that was it. That may have offered
- 49:02Speaker 1: us a peek into the Raiders season as right. Can't
- 49:06Speaker 1: stop anybody right when they have to have it right,
- 49:09Speaker 1: like all the things that you're talking about offensively, clock,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you know, moving down the field, pressure situations, that's where
- 49:17Speaker 1: the Raiders have failed defensively. Yeah, oh yeah. Meanwhile, I
- 49:20Speaker 1: was like they got Chandler chies, they got mass Crosby
- 49:22Speaker 1: were and you know, you know, and the other thing is,
- 49:25Speaker 1: you know, giving credit to opponents, they have tape too,
- 49:29Speaker 1: They watch you. And in the NFL, if you have
- 49:31Speaker 1: a weakness that you can't cover up, other teams are
- 49:34Speaker 1: going to exploit it. And if the weakness for the
- 49:37Speaker 1: Patriots is the line can't block and receivers don't uncover themselves,
- 49:42Speaker 1: don't get open quickly, then I go back to last year.
- 49:47Speaker 1: The Patriots are an easy team to defend well and
- 49:50Speaker 1: that and that leads me to my next point about
- 49:53Speaker 1: post game guys complaining that, yeah, what was that all
- 49:57Speaker 1: about and any anything to that, Well, that was Patriots
- 50:01Speaker 1: players in the Patriots locker room saying, like, can you
- 50:03Speaker 1: believe he was calling out our plays? Which I don't
- 50:05Speaker 1: know if that's I think that's worse than if you
- 50:07Speaker 1: remit it. They didn't say, they did not say specifically
- 50:11Speaker 1: who it was, but it was Jacoby I thought. I
- 50:13Speaker 1: read it was Jacoby Myers who was saying they were
- 50:15Speaker 1: calling on screen, they were calling on draw which like
- 50:18Speaker 1: I don't think, like I mean, I do think that
- 50:20Speaker 1: that happens. But I just at this point in time,
- 50:23Speaker 1: given what we know about the Patriots offense, it's just
- 50:25Speaker 1: got to be disheartening. All they do it in the
- 50:27Speaker 1: press box here. I mean, it's it's getting a lot.
- 50:29Speaker 1: I've done it too. Ye, Eric comes a toss up
- 50:31Speaker 1: to yeah, but that's not good if it's true, you know,
- 50:37Speaker 1: if the other team, you know, we we've heard that
- 50:39Speaker 1: in the past before Patriots knew our plays and you
- 50:41Speaker 1: know the other way around, like if if you know
- 50:44Speaker 1: the other teams plays. It's pretty easy to defend. And
- 50:46Speaker 1: it's just all right. We're gonna take a break. Paul's
- 50:49Speaker 1: foods here. Uh, we'll be right back. More calls and
- 50:52Speaker 1: emails after this. Verizon, the network America relies on, and

- 59:29Speaker 1: He says, Max postgame conference has got me incredibly worried
- 59:33Speaker 1: about the offensive coaching of this team. When asked about
- 59:36Speaker 1: his work with Patricia and Judge, he went on to
- 59:38Speaker 1: highlight how early they got here and how late they
- 59:41Speaker 1: stay The last time we heard about insane time commitments,
- 59:45Speaker 1: it was about Cam. We all know how that turned out.
- 59:47Speaker 1: So Judge and Patricia out next week. Just kidding. Do
- 59:50Speaker 1: you feel like mentioning the hours they're here too is
- 59:53Speaker 1: akin to a sneaky negative mic like comment on Max part.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I'm probably reading too much into it, but it's the
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: by week and I'd rather not spend it thinking about
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the fact that the offense is still in the weird
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: in this weird place in November. Um yeah, I mean,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: like I always ask the question, like if they're here
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: at you know, dawn in there, they leave at dawn,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: you know, why Yeah, why do they need to be
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: here that long? You know? I laughed Nikovich. I don't know.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I caught something on on his podcast, but it was
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: just funny because he's like, why why why do they
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: have to spend all these hours there? Like it's just football,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Like you're just coming up with football plays. I thought
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: that was a little bit refreshing of but I just
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I can't. I've just been hearing the same thing on
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: a MAC and every press conference in right now it's
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: like white noise to me of like, don't worry, we'll
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: get it. Like, Okay, I haven't really seen any of
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: it yet. They put this is what they do. They
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: throw bouquets at everybody. Everybody's the first one here and
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: the last one to leave, and YadA, YadA, YadA. Am
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I on. Yeah, that's kind of the sneaky negative part
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: of it. To me is the best you can come
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: up with. When I asked about your code, just you know,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: first ones here, last one is the lead, like you
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: go cliche mode. I think's a leader of men too,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: like men. Do you know what I'm like, you're a man,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: like I know the email of a man. A little
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: he was being a little tongue in cheek and I'm
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: not taking it entirely to that level, like sneaky Mike,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: sneaky negative Mike. But that's not a great endorsement of
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: your coaches, Like, oh, you know, first ones here, last
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: ones to leave, right, Like that's the best you could Like, No,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: he's constantly amazing us with finding ways to get guys open,
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: and I just you know, putting players in position to succeed.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: That's that's crediting your coaches with with cliches. But that's
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: crediting your coaches with with stuff that's that's actually tangible
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: that you could see just I love talking ball with him,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: and he's just got this unique football mind. He's seen
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: so much. And that's the thing about Belichick is, yeah,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: we all know he stayed, but what when when players
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: are complimenting, it's about how he teaches them the game,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: how he makes it simple for them. Yes, you know,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and you don't hear that right about the other guys
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: before before it went bad with Bill and Tom, Right,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: those guys constantly talked about each other, right in those terms,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: not first one to leave, first one to hear, the
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: last one to leave. They were both savants, you know,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: and they're you know, Ernie Adams included, you know, like
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: that's why Belichick love Ernie Adams, Like they were on
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: the same level in terms of thinking, you know, football
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: conversation was how he put it at the start of
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: the football and half the time they didn't have to talk,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: they just and they knew what they were saying. You know, Um,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: they're just on the same level. Franklin and Maryland, I
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: just wanted to chime in with my thoughts on Max's
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: current play and where I stand. I was listening to
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Paul's favorite show yesterday, and I was shocked that the
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: declaration made by Maz I didn't entirely disagree with that is,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: while I'm not as harsh believing Mac is only destined
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: to be average, I did and do agree with the conclusion.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Any hopes of him becoming a top five regular MVP
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: starter in the league are pretty much gone right now.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I have him pegged as a Derek Carr type of quarterback,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: one who will look good at times, but his inconsistency
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: and pension for turnover plays will always only have the
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Patriots just good enough, which after twenty years of dominance,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: I'm fine with. I just know other Patriots fans want more.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Yeah I don't. I mean, I don't want to say
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: anything about definitive about Mac yet to this point. But
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: I think what this season has kind of shined a
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: big light on was that he does need it to
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: be perfect, Like he needs everything to be right around him,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: and he needs to be comfortable, and you know, it's
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: a little bit high maintenance. There's not a lot of
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: backyard football in him of just make a play or
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: just make things happen. It's just it seems like when
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: the structure breaks down, he can't really get around it.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: You know, Yeah, Chris and Colfax California. You know Colfax.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: I know the street Colfax in the studio city, but
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: I don't know what actual time. I think the absolute
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: worst thing for this team is the road we're going
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: down no man's land. This team needs to either win
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: ten plus games or get a top ten pick. Anything
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: in between is a failure of a season. I've been
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: a Sacramento Kings fan my whole life, and that could
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: be the road we're headed down. We need to find
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: out if Mac Grayson, Alan Jones, or Bailey Matt Flynn
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Zappy can be our quarterback. I was and am a
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: Mac guy, but I think he now kind of tops
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: out at Andy Dalton. I think Zappy is Brian Hoyer
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: at best. We should have been sellers at the deadline
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: and sold anyone under twenty seven for anything we could
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: have gotten, like the Dolphins did a few years ago.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Thoughts hashtag suck for Strout, Yeah, I don't. I don't
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: really agree. I mean I think. I mean, I think,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: first of all, the NBA is something different, and that's
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: five guys, and you got a team, and there's a
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: lot of haves and have nots. I think there's more
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: parody in the NFL right now, and there's no guarantee
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: just because you get just because you get a top
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: ten pick, like yeah, maybe one or two is a game,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: is a franchise altering player. I don't know past that though.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Otherwise I think you're kind of taking a swing mostly
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: as well. So I don't know. I'd rather be in
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: this point. And I know that, you know, we're five
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: and four and nobody's really that excited about it, But
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I don't it's much better to me to be like
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: this than to be sitting at two wins and we're
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: miserable and we're praying to God that we hit the
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: first round pick out of the park so that he
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: can save our franchise. Like I don't think that that's
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: like a set thing. I mean, and they just they
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: gotta get they gotta get the offense on track, and
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: they got to figure things out with that to restore
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: some hope within things. Because if they did, if they
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: had an okay offense, if they'd showed glimpses here and there,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: and they'd, you know, if we could just get over
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: the turnovers, we just you know then I think you
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: might be able to talk yourself into this is a
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: team that's you know, going to be in the mix
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: of the playoffs. I mean, I think right now, as
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: it appears, they're going to be in the mix of
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: the playoffs. So yeah, And I would just say, you
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: know that there's some correlations to what he's talking about. Like,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: so Miami a few years ago when they decided to
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: rip it down to the studs, and by the way,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: we're tanking right yeah, I mean that's kind of fact,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: not opinion. At this point, they had young talented players
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: to deal for hydrat like Mica Fitzpatrick went for one, right, yeah,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: he got at they traded him to Pittsburgh for one.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Like who would the Patriots trading for a first round pick? Like,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: I'm not convinced you could trade Mac Jones for a
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: first round pick right now? Like who who would they
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: deal that would get you a first round pick that
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: you'd be willing to deal? I mean, right right right now?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Do they have it? I mean, like Matthew Judeon, Like
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: would he get a first round pick in return? I maybe,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: but I don't think so. But why would you? I mean,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: he's like the best guy you have on your true No,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I know, but I'm just like using it like the
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: emailer is saying, like start over, rip the band aid off,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: and sell off all pieces that you have. I just
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: don't know that they had a lot of really attractive pieces.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I think they had guys that they could trade for sure,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: but they were going to get you day three picks, right,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: and like, I don't know how that helps. And like
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: the Isaiah Wins of the world, when people want to like, oh,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: just flip him. You're not getting those high ends. Everybody
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: wanted to just flip Isaiah Win, like you could do
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: that and get like a second round pick and return.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: That wasn't going to happen. Gary and East hand over
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: to Jersey, he says. The New York Jets, led by
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: a second year turnover prone quarterback who went eighteen for
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: twenty five for one hundred and fifty four yards and
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: a touchdown, defeated the Bills. They did so with a
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: solid running game and a defense that forced turnovers. If
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: the Patriots are unable to be competitive against the Bills,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: as they have been in their last two meetings, it
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: will be an indictment on the entire coaching staff in
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: the direction of the team. That's I take issue with
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: forced Like I just I cautioned against just reading into
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: one game. And this is why you know the point
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: that you made that I pushed back on earlier, Fred,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: because I think you could cherry pick a game and say,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: well they did it well, then why can no one
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: else do it? Like so the Jets that like that,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: that's the magic defense, that's the only one that you like.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: What do you think happened on Sunday? Yeah, I didn't
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: see the game. What do you think happened on Sunday?
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I mean I watched enough of it tonight, just that
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: they the Bills were not on their game in that
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: game that the Jets avoided the turnovers. Jets avoided stupid turnover.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Zach Wilson didn't make any of the mistakes that he made.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: They did your thing, They ran the ball, they didn't
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: push the issue, and when it came down to the end,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: they made the last place. Like I didn't watch the game,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: I did see the highlights just like everybody else. My
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: guess is Buffalo played like crap. Okay, I'm not going
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: to tell you that the Jets didn't have something to
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: do with them playing like crap. I'm sure they did.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: You saw that, Josh Allen, but I reception right where
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: he threw it right to the guy right like Quinn
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: going on him. I've seen yeah, he like he That
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: was a Zach Wilson interception, is what it was. I
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: heard Fred Toucher talking about that this morning. Anything can
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: happen in like in an individual game, you can you
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: can start like even the best offense can have a
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: bad day. Like so why I pushed back on Fred,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Like Kansas City has won Buffalo's three and points scored. Well,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: you know on Sunday they always scored seventeen points and
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: the Chiefs always good twenty Yeah, and they're averaging thirty.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: So that means most days they get more than thirty
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: because they only got seventeen the other day and they're
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: still averaging like twenty nine or whatever it is, and
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: the Chiefs are averaging thirty. Like my guess is Josh
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Allen was crappy the other day and the Jets hung
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: around and found a way to steal it at the end. Him.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I think Josh Allen agree with you, Neil and new Brunswick.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: I know the theme of this show is to focus
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: on the negative. However, if you went into a coma
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: the day after we lost forty seven to seventeen to
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: the Bills in the playoffs after forcing zero punts and
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: wake up and I tell you the following one. Josh McDaniels,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: leeves with three coaches. J C. Jackson has gone no
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: major free agent editions E scal Lee's Patriots, unfiltered trade
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: down in the first round to take a Division two guard,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: no offensive coordinator. We are changing the offense. Find out
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Mattie p is the play caller. We look terrible all
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: preseason and Matt Jones gets hurt and misses three and
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: a half games. What would you guess? Our record is
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: five and four. Honestly, five and four feels all right
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: to me right now. You may now return to the negative.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Five and four. Yeah, like the only thing I would
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: have done if you asked me before the season, I
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: would have said they would have beaten Chicago and they
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: would have lost to the Colts, because I thought the
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Colts were going to be good with Matt Ryan. That's it.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: I have them five and fourt to buy. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I don't know what his point is. I mean, it's
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: they're five and four and they have one of the
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: worst offenses in the league. They've had one of the
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: best defenses in the league, and that's where it is.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: It comes out at five and four, but we'll see,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: we'll see in the same and they have one of
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: the best defenses in the league. In the individual I
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: could go back to my my offenses, and I can
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: tell you the ones that are at the bottom, and
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: those are the ones that you beat up Pittsburgh, Indianapolis,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Like that's that's what happens. Like you can tell me
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: all these things that you thought, but these are weren't
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: the people that were calling in before the season telling
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: me that that there's no hope. I didn't hear any
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: of that before the season, and we certainly didn't give
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: you any of that there's no hope. We had concerns
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: about Matt Patricia probably me the top of that list
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: right front and night. We're more concerned about the defense,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: right defense is now the least of our Yeah, yeah,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: I am, I remain every every bit is concerned about
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: the defenses. I am the offense. But you have reason
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: to be, um, just I didn't hear from these people
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: that that felt going in without Josh McDaniels, without jac Jackson,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: and without an offensive coordinator. We're doing like I didn't
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: hear from these people in the summer, and now all
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: of a sudden, you go five and four and you
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: want to throw a parade. Let's go to Patty and agawam,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: what's up, Patty? Good point, Pollie. I was one of
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: those guys that thought that Mack was going to take
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: that second year leap and they were gonna be looked
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: like a playoff team going into the buy. And before
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: I get into my point, let me just say that
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Western mass is beautiful at this time of year. Oh yeah,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: urst years. Forget about the foliage. Foliage, yeah, the waterfall.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: What's wrong with this team? At least offensively? I gotta
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: stay um at least through nine games. I'm satisfied with
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: what the defenses look like. Hasn't been perfect, but they've
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: been competitive, all I agree. The three things that stick
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: out to me are Number one, of course, the offensive line.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Number too, whether Matt guys, and I'm a Matt guy,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I want to admit it or not, the quarterback and
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: by virtue. Number three is red zone. You know, and
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: what I would like to see him do like Dante's
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: thing coming out of the bi just stick with five guys,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: you know, don't be mentioned guys, even if they're struggling.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I would rather see cold Strange stick it out for
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: the rest of the season and work through his struggles
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: and be having Isaiah when you never know what the
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: hell you're gonna get with that guy playing whatever position
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: he's playing. I mean, aside from a couple penalties a game,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: and I know, like all the everyone along the line
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: is committed penalties. But to me, I think that's that's
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: a good starting point. Just stick get you know, get
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: five guys out there and just let them play out
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: the rest of the season. And what do you guys
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: think about Yeah, I mean, I think it's it's I
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: like continuity and I like those things in establishing that
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: in the offensive line. I just I mean, I think
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: what the coaching staff is signaling to us is that
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: it's beyond the pale of how bad the play has been.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: And you know, I'm sure they would love to push
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: through it with Cole Strange and give him a chance
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: to work through those issues. I just I think probably
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: they got to a point where we feel like we're
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: doing more bad than good with him. Right now, we're
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: putting our quarterback maybe in danger. I mean the moves
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: at right tackle that signals everything you need to know.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: I mean they clearly you know you're not starting Yarnie
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: could just in week eight or week nine all of
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: a sudden out of nowhere if you're feeling good. So
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: I like it in theory. I just I don't know
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: if that makes the difference. I like the idea of
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: the five five, you know, sticking with five. I just
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: don't know who the five best are like. And I
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: know Bill won't. Bill won't do this because he doesn't
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: do it that way. But I don't want to just
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: stick with Cole Strange because he's the first round pick.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Right if he isn't as good as the point, if
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: he isn't as good as somebody else, you shouldn't pare
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: to anybody. Thanks for the call, Patty. Let's go to
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Aaron and Flint, Michigan. What's up, Aaron, Aaron, Aron, a round,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: it's not there. And you know, as for the red
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: zone stuff that Patty was talking about, like I'd settle
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: with Getty to the red zone now, like all of
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: a sudden, they don't even get to the red zone anymore,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: and when they do get there, the ball is usually
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: given to them already in the red zone. Willie's in Philly.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: What's up will Him? How are you doing? How are
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: you doing? Good? All right now? Um So, if I'm
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: if I'm the Jet, Minnesota Bills and the Dolphins, you
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: know what I'm thinking about on defense, trying to get
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: that met I'm taking away Stevenson and Jakobe Myers because
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: that's all you do too. I'm gonna make you use
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: them other receivers. Yeah, yeah, well yeah, that and just
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: tackle because like they throw the ball to Stevenson a lot,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: but just tackle them in you know, like this game
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: he was like I think he had three catches on
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: seven targets or something like that. M yeah, I just
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: and um, they Bill has broken Max so badly. I mean,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: that's that's crazy. I mean, and between the joint Francis
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: is the all season stuff that the lack of skilled
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: players and everything. It's just a mess on the offensive side.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't know how, but I don't know
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: how Mad gonna bounce back from this. I really know.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I don't know how you gonna beat So the rest
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: of the team's coming up after the Bobby, I really don't. No,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I'll leave it at that, gentleman, all right, Yeah, it's
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: gonna start with the Jets. So do you think I
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: think that William just brought up a point that I
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: think is kind of interesting. Do you think that there
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: is um a cause and effect to the way that
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Mac was kind of handled, say a month ago. Well,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: I mean, you did hear from some players saying, you know,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: not not these words, but you know Mac got done
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: dirty a little bit. I don't know. I mean, I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: just I feel like it's looked the same. So I
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: don't I don't really see like the impact of it,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: like he if you could say he hasn't turned it
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: around yet. Oh no, I think he's playing, but I
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: just been the same. Oh no, I think he's gotten worse.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I think it's been worse since since he came back
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: from the injury. I thought, like the Baltimore game, I
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: know that there was three picks, but I think there
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: were things to be encouraged about the way he played
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: that game. And I know it sounds counterintuitive he threw
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: three picks, but I thought he made a lot of
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: plays in that game. I haven't seen really any plays
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: that he's made over the last the last couple and
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: for the most part, the offense has been completely set
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: up by the defense the last two weeks. I wonder
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: if maybe he's thinking half the time, I can't make
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: a mistake. I can't make a mistake if I throw it,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: If I throw an interception, I might not get back
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: in the game. You know. And I think it would
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: have been really interesting to watch the pick six against
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: the Jets. What would have happened if that if that
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: call doesn't get overturned. And I respect that point, I
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: just I guess for me, I think if you're an
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: NFL quarterback, you have to have a level of mental toughness,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: probably a build out anybody in an average society. And
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: you know, and I hate that, I hate can I
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: just can I just stop you in the middle of
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: your explanation for real quick by no means, was that
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: meant to be a defense like an excuse for Mac
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: as an aside Max playing you know bad? I mean,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: you can't even he's been on a bad list like
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks. I didn't mean that as
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: a defensive max play. I'm just saying, has that contributed
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: to his play? Yeah? And and and I come from
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: you know, as a I've talked about my hockey career,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: you know, being an offensive defenseman who lost, you know,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: got bench sometimes and certainly entered games and situations as
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: a player where I was afraid to make a mistake
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: and it's no way for anybody to play. And in
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: my brief coaching experience, I wanted to absolutely ensure that
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: my players were willing to make mistakes and forget about
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: it and just go on. So I understand that point,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: and I hate to think about a player being entering
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: a game in that position. But when Matt came in
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: and I interviewed people that knew him when he was
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: a kid, I'd interviewed people that knew him since he
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: was in Pop Warner, and his ability to bounce back
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: from this kind of stuff was always kind of highlighted
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: and not yes, and through youth football and high school
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: football and at Alabama, he was able to overcome that adversity.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: But the recurring theme I had, and I think we've
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: seen it, is that sometimes the mistakes and the bad
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: things eat into him a little bit too much. Mentally
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: and he can't let go of stuff and he can't
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: move on. Well, if everybody's if the one thing that
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: everyone agrees on is that he bounces well back from mistakes.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: That means he makes a lot of mistakes. But I
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: mean it's it's and you know the example that people
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: used to where I think it was just his the
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: year before he started, he got in um I believe
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: it was against Auburn and went toe to toe with
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: them and was getting absolutely destroyed, but was able to
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: hang in there. And that's the Mac that I want
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: to see, not the Mac that like, you know, and
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: maybe Paul's right, oh, but listen from the Mac that
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I've seen, he's an upbeat guy, like you know, like
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: I know it's a little thing, but like after that
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: first half of the Jets, they Stunky had just thrown
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: a pick six. Let's face if he throw a pick six, Okay, Um,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: I know Evans said it was a play that didn't happen.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: It happened, and you know, so I was looking at
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: him and he was the first guy out of that
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: locker room, sprinted across the field, was upbeat, you know,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: and I was wondering, like what would his you know,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: body language be and you know, I see him after
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: these postgame press conferences. You know, I do think he's
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: don't see an upbeat guy in these postgames. No, But
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: I don't see a guy like hanging his head. I
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: see a guy who's like, let's let's let's get to
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: practice tomorrow. Let's you know, I do. I do see
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: a guy who you know, wants to just keep taking
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: on the challenge. So far, yeah, so far. I just
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: I guess for me, there's a little bit of a
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: difference between putting on a brave face and actually turning
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: the performance around and going out and yeah, you had
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: a bad thing or you know the maybe you think
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: the coaches are benching you, but like you come out
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: and you play mad and you produce, and you know
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: those are I think he's got to overcome that stuff.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: And I mean, you know, we've talked about a plenty
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: with the hitting the pads, and I mean I think
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: that was something that he really had to grow on
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: as a player. And I think this whole situation just
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: tested him in a way that you know, ultimately he
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: probably needed to be tested to find out if he's
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: a real you know, the real deal as an NFL quarterback.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: But I just it boils down to performance for me,
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: and I just I'd love to see him prosper in
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: the face of adversity to the protection was awful tonight,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: but Mac found a way. He got he you know,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: he made a couple of steps, he made a couple
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: of runs when he had to. He got that that
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: last drive. He got us in the end zone when
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: we needed to. That's what's like that. There was a
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: wheel route available to Stevenson and I think it was
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: in the first half, and he overthrew him by a
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: little bit. He was under some pressure, had probably probably
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: had to throw it a little bit before he wanted to,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: but the throw was there to be made. And listen,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: I think when it comes to the list of things
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: that I worry about with Mac Jones, his accuracy is
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: probably well down the list. I think he generally throws
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: the ball where it's supposed to go. But that's a
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: play that he could have made. And yeah, you could
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: look and say, well he was he was getting rushed.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: That's the good ones, you know, they find a way
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: to do that, and I think lately he hasn't been
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: finding ways to do that. I'd highlight the short hop
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: to Thornton too as a play that stuck out to
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: me where it just it looked like he wasn't comfortable.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: He kind of rushed it, you know, got it out quick.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: It was right at his feet. I think he had
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: another guy wide open on the other side of the
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: field too, you know. I just think those are the
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: things that are kind of coming up where it's just
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: even when it's there, sometimes it's harder than it really
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: should be. Mental. He doesn't look like he's seeing it
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: very well. Yeah, pal is in Arkansas, he says. In
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: my personal opinion, I think Bill is tanking in his
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: own way, between trading away Shack Mason, not having real
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: coordinators in the power surge of teams in the AFC
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: East and the rest of the AFC, along with the
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: amount of money the Patriots have to spend this up
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: and coming season. I really think Bill is tanking because
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: he knows they can't compete with the rest of the
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: league in the playoffs due to the horses they have
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: in the stable. I remember Paul saying a few years
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: ago teams don't tank by trying to lose on Sundays.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: They tank by who they put on the field and
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: who was coaching. Do you think Bill is possibly taking
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: in his own way to get a top draft pick
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: along with revamping the team for the near future. No,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: if he is, he's going about it all. Got to
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: tell the defense to right, you can't stop winning. Stop
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: win four out of five games five and four, Yeah,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: I mean we've got a lot of losing to do.
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: If that's you're not going to get a top ten
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: pick at five and four. Alex and Raleigh writes in
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: I see this season remaining more of the same, and
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: no matter what the coaches do, who plays in the line,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: if it's Zappie or Mack, there's just too many problems
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: on offense to start producing this year, and guys just
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: have to con tinue to play their best on defense
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: the rest of the season to say we have improved
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: over the three years. Early in the show, you guys
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: talked about the offensive struggles and how it starts at
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: the line. If Andrews comes back during the buy returns
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: for week ten, do you guys think there's any chance
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: the offense starts to develop an identity or we just
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: continue to get lucky because we are the Patriots and
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: beat up on bad teams and teas with crucial players
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: out from injury. PS shout out to Jacoby Myers for
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: being one of the best Patriots and a legendary Wolfpack player.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: I hope he stays with the team selfishly, but also
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: want to see him get his shot as secondary wide
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: receiver on a great team. He's as a secondary piece
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: on a great team. Yeah, maybe he's a He's He's
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: a first for me because usually if a guy like
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: this was great for the Patriots, I would just be
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: beside myself about wanting to keep him. But I like
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: him so much personally that I think he's one of
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: the rare ones where if he went somewhere and got
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: a huge Bay Day, I'd root for him and be
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: really happy that he was able to success. But that's okay.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: It's a rare one for me, believe me. Usually it's
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: like they leave their dead to me. But it depends
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: on the last words out the door. See now that
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: I actually agree with No, I like I could change
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: my opinion if a guy was was all, you know,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: snivelly on the way out the door. Yeah, if he goes,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: he goes. Like as of today, if he went to
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: another team. Yeah, I'd be root for him, But if
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: he goes also a team, it says the place is
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: no fun. It also depends on where he goes. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: that's true. Yeah right, the one him going to the Jets,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Like if you went to Buffalo with the Jets, like
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Kansas City'd be like, I'd have to break Rock and Brookfield,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: Connecticut first and foremost. I'm a team Mac guy. He
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: deserves to prove himself one way or another and for
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: the rest of the season, and I would even say
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: next year, let him show us who we truly is.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: Our defense has the potential to be a playoff caliber defense.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: It's becoming clear. As for the offense, I'm squarely looking
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: at Bill and how he handled replacing McDaniels. Everyone gave
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: him the side eye this offseason when he hired Judge
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: and Patricia to run the offense. It's proven to be
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: an awful experiment through nine games, one of the worst
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: Patriots offenses I've ever watched, despite arguably getting better on
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: paper on the offensive side of the ball in the offseason. Yeah,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: I mean said it. I mean I gave him the
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt. The proof is in the pudding.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: You get out there, you see what it actually looks like.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: It's just it's it's it's it's not good, bomb not great. No, this, this,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: this offensive online problem goes back to giving Joe Tuny
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: the franchise tag. That was the beginning of the first
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: dominant fall. Yes, so can you walk me through that? Yeah?
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: They over, they over. They shouldn't have given him the
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: franchise tag. They should have just extended him. Okay, so
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: why did they then happen? So they chose not to
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: extend him, right, and they also chose not to keep
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: the guy that they did extend, Shack Shack Mason, right. So, like,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: I'm not sure how those two things whatever, whatever it
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: started with Tuny started started with Tuny deep deep thinker,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: yep kersh yep, deep thinker. It's true. I agree with
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: you that it was a mistake to franchise a guard,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: But based on what I've seen, they could have extended
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: him and he'd gotten traded for like a fifth round
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: pick this year, because that's basically what they did with
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: the guy they did extend. Um. Let's see Jason and Connecticut.
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: A lot has been made of the booing, and I'd
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: like to address that. It's my opinion that if you're
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: a professional, you have a job, it's your responsibility to
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: do the job to the best of your ability at
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: all times without making excuses. If it is obvious to
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: everyone that you're not doing your job properly, I think
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: that's a reasonable customer has the right to express their displeasure. So,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: no matter what anyone says, I support Paul and getting
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: righteously upset when he was in the Dunkin Donuts line,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and that he was completely justified in calling the barista
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: incompetent boom, Paul, we have your back, just um. I mean,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: I know that that was kind of like a long
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: way to take a shot at me, which is fine
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: because I deserve it. I don't think people have a
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: problem with booing. I think what was different that night
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: was the calls for Zappy before Mac even took a snap,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: And there were calls for Zappy before they ran an
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: offensive play. Yeah, like people don't find people don't think
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: there's a difference in that, Like in your home stadium,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: they're not wanting you to play right right, Yeah, welcome
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: to Massachusetts. But you know, sure if he goes out
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: and throws three picks. What are we doing here? Yeah?
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: Make a change now, Paul, you might remember, probably not.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Wasn't there a time where there was a faction of
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Patriots fans who wanted Grogan over Easton? Oh yeah, everybody
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: wanted grog over recent Yeah did they? Did? They yell
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: at the games or stuff or probably? But that was
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: after Easton was bad? Yeah? How long did get before
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: he was deemed bad? Like? What was his? Uh? And
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: it wasn't even like that he was that bad. It
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: was that he just wasn't tough. Soft, Yeah he was soft.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: Ron Meyer used to say he was too small, frail,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: he was frail about his own quarterback. Yeah, well he
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: didn't because he didn't want to draft him. Now again,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I'm sure that's one of those that the coaches like
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: to do. Don't play that guy. I didn't want that guy, right, Um,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I don't know what he was he I think he
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: started some games his rookie year, aady three. Like. See,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: the thing about Grogan is Grogan was the prototypical Grogan
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: could have only been a thing here, well here like Philly. Yeah,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: you know, like some hard scrabble Northeast time. Like he
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: wasn't that good and I love me some Steve Grogan.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: I mean, he used to be here a lot in
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: the stadium, Mike. I absolutely love the guy. But he
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: was the most consistently inconsistent player I've ever seen. And
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: this people to this day will tell you he's by
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: far and away the second best quarterback and franchise history
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: behind Brady Yea. And half of those people only begrudgingly
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: give Brady the not like it's a psychosis when it
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: comes to the player that Grogan was. He ran around,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: He wore a stupid neck brace. He knocked, you know,
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: he would take on linebackers and the fans loved him
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: because of it. And then he'd throw six picks and
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: everybody said, yeah, but he's tough, like yeah, And we
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: didn't make the playoffs because he threw six paces. He
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: would have stretches where he get hot, yeah, and then
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: the next game he, like Paul said, he would just
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: get He was great coming off the bench and injecting life.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I like the last half of his career, he became
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: a really effective piece. That way, when Easton was was
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: bad and the offense was struggling, he'd come in and
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: he'd run a naked bootleg and you know, run for
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: a touchdown and stuff like that. Bone on bone. I mean,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: oh yeah, I have nothing bad to say about Steve
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Grogan the person, but as a quarterback he was thoroughly,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: thoroughly average. It's definitely a window into a little bit
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: of what makes Boston such a crazy sports town. And
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: you know, and it's like, and that's why I think
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: when Mac was getting booed, it's like, I get it.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: This is how Pete fans are here. But I also
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: know that like when you get when you win these
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: fans over, they will love you forever, you know, and
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: you don't even have to be the greatest of all time. Never,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: we never really had the flashy team, like even when
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: the Celtics were great, you know, not the sixties. I
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: mean the Bird. It was Larry Bird who was this
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: like blue collar you know, guy who couldn't get six
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: inches off the floor, you know, like but just did
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: it with his toughness and his smarts. And you know,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: the Bruins were the big bad Bruins, and you know,
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: we weren't really flashy. You know. Am Neely for a
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: while was like the best score we had and then
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: they took his knees out. You know. It's like so
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: we were always like a team that did it, not
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: with like the Gretzky or Joe Namath. You know, we
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: were always I like Paul's comparison to Philly too, like
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the Broad Street bullies, like you know, just that like
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: tea yeah, East Coast or Northeast. You know I should
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: say tough guys. You know that's that was always, you know,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: the way we were, although New York seems like those
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: teams kind of root for the big stars like those were,
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: you know, like the big like he might have been
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: he like he might have been a thing for the Jets,
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: but not the Giants because they're too you know, they're
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: too high brow. Um yeah, I mean, friend's Boston point.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: I know what his point is. So instead of pushing
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: back and like saying things like Bobby Or in like
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: two thousand and seven, but even our great player, but
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: he was a defenseman, but he was the greatest player
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: of all time, well absolutely, you know, um, but like
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: he never but he never got Like hardcore hockey fans
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: know that Bobby Or was the best. But now when
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: they talk about the best players of all time, they
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: talk about Gretzky and Lemieux and Bobby you are kind
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: of is like a side note unless you're from Boss Mike,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: right Mike. But I also helped me here. I also
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: think though that they're certainly probably Bruins fans like in
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: the seventy two were like, I mean, yeah, Bobby r
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: is awesome, but I mean Derek Sanderson though, like, like
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: the guy they really love is the Derek sand Buddons
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: in the world. But do you hear like hockey people
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: say the greatest players of all time and not include
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Bobby Oh no, he's there him and Lemieux and yet
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: Gretzky you know how forty howe scorer, you know, longevity, yeah, playing,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: but Bobby or a shooter, Yeah, you know Rocket was shot.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: To say Bobby or was not flashy is like, I
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know what the definition of flashy
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: is when you have a defenseman scoring one hundred points
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: every year, right, I mean it's funny, is I mean?
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: There was just a huge explosion of hockey here, I
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: think without because Bobby were built and I was, you know,
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: as a kid growing up late seventy early eighties, like,
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: I mean, it was a left handed shooting defenseman who
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: like thinks he's boy like Bobby are kind of ruined
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: me in some ways, thinking that like every time I'd
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: get the puck, I'd stopped behind the net, sit over
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: here when I saw Bobby, you do it? Yeah, pearl,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: you know it was one I did. Paul was stopped
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: in back of the net and they had like the
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: kids swooping in and did the old off off the
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: back of the net. I did that like one of
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: my first prep school practices. The coach came over and
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: just started. He's like, that might have worked, and d
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: three back in me. That's not gonna work, you know,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: chew me out. But that kind of stuff, you know,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: didn't work. Oh yeah, oh yeah. I was like some
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: JV kid Andrew in la Um. I've been wondering why
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: offenses have dropped off scoring. Here's my thoughts thoughts. The
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: top offenses have been dealing with injuries, aging, or trades.
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Last year, Dallas was the number one offense. This year
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: they lost Cooper, Dak has been hurt, and Zeke is
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: it goes Tampa. They're dealing with no Grant, no Ab
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Godwin is a shell of himself and has lost two steps.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: Evans has been dealing with an insane amount of drops.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Oh and if left Witch calls one more run plan
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: first down, I'll probably commit myself to an insane asylum.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Buffalo and Casey are still high octane. Charges have had
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: their two wide receivers hurt, Rams no longer have OBJ
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: or Bobby Trees, and their line is old. Arizona and
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Green Bay were tied for tenth last year. Arizona hasn't
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: had Kerk, who I believe was underrated. They didn't have
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: Hopkins for the first six weeks, and then Brown went
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: down and the Packers traded the actual two time MVP
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: to the Raiders. I think this is why we have
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: seen high octane. That's an excellent email. It's all true.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: It's an excellent email. Yeah. I did like the he's
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: been dealing with drops. What is that? That seems like
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: isn't he dropping the lall up? Yeah, it's not his fault,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: he's just he's dealing with them. I mean no, but
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: like everything he said. Now, I would say that the
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: larger issues with the Rams and the Bucks or offensive
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: line late um, because I still think they both both
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: of those teams have enough weapons to move the ball
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: better than they have and Robert Woods wasn't on the
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Rams last year, so they didn't lose Bobby Trees. Um.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: But yeah, that those are a lot of good points. Um.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: Some of the better offenses in the league have taken hits. Now.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: That said, there are other teams that should be better
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: offensively than they have been, like the Raiders that Fred
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: brought up earlier. And you also have a team like
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: the Dolphins that is, you know, from nothing to you know,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: but their numbers won't say it because they had three
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: games when that stiff too it wasn't playing and suddenly
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: he went from like thirty five points a game down
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: to nothing. So, Fred, before we wrap this up, I
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: posted just some midseason award winners today, league wide, league wide, um,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: MVP of the league. Yeah, halfway point, don't be afraid.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I there's no wrong answers spit him out. I mean,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: he says knowing that I sack him if he says
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: probably Josh Allen. But you know, yeah, so I picked
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: two uh and yeah I picked him and it showed
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: when he was out there, right, that was that was
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: part of my reasoning. Yes, I know a lot of
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: people say he's a side that the same thing if
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: Josh Allen was out, he's a side Well we'll see, yeah,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: oh Paul predicting What Paul predicting he's going to be out?
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't think that's like a stretch. Really.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: Oh no, did you see like did you see him
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: like holding his art? No? But then you said he
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: thought he threw for seventy yards After that, I don't
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: think that helped it, I know, But so they're gonna
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: do a test. What if they find out that's it's
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: not that bad, we'll just do this and that and
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: the other thing. It seemed like that was what mort
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: was pumping. Moret was saying, you know, I don't think
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: it need to I mean, like, if I'm a Bills fan,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: I'm holding out hope it's not that bad, Morton, nothing
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: to worry about it anyway. That was part of my reasoning,
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: was like, I know that everybody thinks two was a
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: sidecar and just along for the ride. But when he
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: was out, Teddy Bridgewater is a like a good serviceable
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: professional backup, right, and they didn't have anywhere near the
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: production when he was playing, right, Like, I won't say
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: that he you know, the third the third string, seventh
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: rounder Skyler Thompson. I'm not holding him to that stata,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: but they should have been like Buffalo is going to
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: turn it over to case Keenum, who I think is
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: like Teddy Bridgewater, Like it should look okay, they have
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: enough offensively, they should still be able to move the ball.
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: I'm not telling you they're going to score thirty five
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: points a game, but the fact that Miami couldn't do
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: anything offensively in those three games told me it wasn't
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: just scheme. It was too I've been really impressed with him.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how Patriot fan couldn't be
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: impressed with two after you haven't really had any answers
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: for him over these in the past three years. So
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: I'm with you when you asked me that question. I mean,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: he's been consistent. As Fred said, he's proof when he
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: was worth when he was out. I still worry about him,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: you know, in bad weather, I'll see because what that
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: that'll be like what New Year's Day here? Yep, yeah,
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: I don't think he'll play very well in that game.
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: I would love it. So what I did was I
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: picked a winner and then I had like in the mix.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: So I had I did have Josh Allen, Um, Josh Allen,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, and Jalen Hurts were the other three guys
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: that I had in the mix. I would say Mahomes definitely,
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: could you know, especially after without Hills, you can make
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: an argument that Mahomes is the MVP right now and
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: I don't. I wouldn't argue with you. What about Michael Parsons,
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: So he's my Uh he's in the mix for Defensive
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: Player of the Year. You know who I picked Defensive
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: Player of the half year? Matthew Matthew. Yeah, sure, he
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: has three more sacks than the next closest guy. Good Paul,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: And you know that. I wouldn't do it just for that. Yeah,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: like you make fun of me all the time anything
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: but Patriots dot Com, which is not true. Um, but yeah,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: I had Mica par Arson's was in the mix for
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: that Offensive Player of the year, Offensive Player of the
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: year half half year. I don't know, I just march.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Why don't I just tell you I picked Tyree Keill. Okay,
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: that's fair. Yeah, Yeah, I had Nick Chubb was in
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: that mix. That's a good one. I think Derrick Henry
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: was in that mix, So I don't want to get
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: you made. I don't know what's gonna happen. Coach of
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: the year coach Nick Sirianni. I was just gonna say
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Sirianni from the Eagles. Um no, Mike McDaniel. This is
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: why I like to run these things by people before
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: I post them. I didn't even have him in the mix. Guys, No,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: I didn't even have him in the mix. You were
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: laughing at us, You were laughing at yourself. Yes, I
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: forgot about Nick. Yeah. I picked Brian Dable as my
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: coach of the half year. He's a good one. I
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: have no problem with my pick except for I put
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: in the mix and I even put four coaches in
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: the mix and didn't have Nick Sirianni as one of them.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: That's that's that's irons on my part. I had um
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: Pete Carroll. Yeah, yeah, it was one of them. Mike
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: mc daniel was one of them. Yeah. Uh. Kevin O'Connell. Yeah,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: I would say Seahawks are my biggest one of my
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: biggest surprises. And I picked Geno Smith might come back
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: the year. Yeah, it's an interesting kind of what did
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: he come back from? Paul playing bad. Well, he just
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: kind of like obscurity. No, I know he hasn't played
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: Yeo Smith crazy? Does Mike Noir come back player of
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: the year conundrum? What is that come back players? Paul
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: doesn't like that Moniker, but no one does. I think
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: it's usually the most famous guy who had the biggest
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: injury right and then played the night and then came
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: back and played. Or did you stake one year and
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: come back the next year? Yeah, I don't know what
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: what is it? It's a nebulous term Weston Ada boy
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: for somebody who who had some was down on their
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: luck for a season. Yeah, Josh and Turners Falls. My
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: girlfriend surprised me with tickets to Sunday's game and it
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: was great, only my second time to Gillette. Every point
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: scored and play that was great, happen right in front
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: of me in section one fifteen was awesome. People were
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: blowing Mac and channing zappy and I got into it
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: with a couple mainly because they were wearing Mac jerseys,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: and that, to me is the crazy part. Booing a
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: second year quarterback for a rookie. The offense as a
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: whole needs help lots, but it's not all Mac opened
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: the freaking playbooks. Stop running on second and ten, Judeon
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: depends the Player of the year, Meyer's extension, Stevenson continuing
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: to show promise. These are things I'm looking forward to.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Love the show. I'll try to get a game in
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: later this week. Okay, Mike, you want to tell him
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: about his complaint about stop running on second and ten.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: I mean, it's the it's their strength. It's their strength,
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: the only thing they do well on offense. Get away
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: from him that second and long runs technically second and medium.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: If we're getting we're gonna get too specific. But yeah.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: Russell in Arkansas says, in the topic of Tom coming
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: back to New England, would it be crazy to think
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: that the Crafts could give Tom a piece of the
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: pie in ownership? Maybe that will tickle Paul's pole Dilley
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Dilley's legal Yeah, well, it's not illegal if you declare it, right,
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: If you say, if you get approval by the league
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: to do that, and it's part of its compensation, you
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: have to like it's part of the salary cap. I mean,
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: based on the Miami thing, it seems like that's one
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: of the things that he probably would want, right, like
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: to to to go to another team at this point.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: I mean that seems like that would that would that
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: would move the needle, As Paul says, I think, yeah,
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: some equity. I don't think there's anything the Patriots could
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: do to get Brady to come back here. I really
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: don't men fences another ten year run. I don't know everything,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: and I don't mean I don't mean come back here
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: like physically come like we're retiring your number, Tom, you
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: know whatever, Like I mean to come back and be
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: a leader, you know. Uh? John and Auburn writes in
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: why wouldn't the Colts have called a draw after the
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: third or fourth sack on third and long? On the replace?
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: It seemed like Judan and Uche were flying up the backfield.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: A draw could have slowed them down, right, I don't yeah,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: I mean I think they called a couple of runs
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: on third and long and those got taken down for
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: like four and five yard games too. Like, I don't
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: know that the Colts were overmatched realistically, though, Where do
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: you think Brady could go next year? You guys said
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: san fran Was that san France and the one everybody
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: talks about? Yeah? Yeah? Anywhere else? You think he would.
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: I don't know where what he would be interested in,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: but you know, New Orleans, Carolina, San fran Um, who else?
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: I mean, did I say the Raiders? Yeah, well yeah,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: I don't know. There's no way Josh has fired right,
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: like the ye, we just can't. I can't imagine that
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: that you fire a guy in unless and you're not
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: firing a guy in one year because of his record.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: Something has to happen, Like the players are in Davis
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: you know Mac Davis's office every day, Like this guy's
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: a clown. He's got to go, Like, um, why can't
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: I think of his name? Nathaniel Hackett in Denver, by
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: all accounts, is over his head. Yeah. You know, if
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: they decided to part ways with him after a year,
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: it's not because the record is whatever it's gonna end up.
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: It's gonna be because they didn't feel like he was
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: fit to be a coach, you know what I mean?
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: How do you make that mistake? That? I mean, just
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: such an important decision, so much money involves, so much
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: focus on the media, and you and you get the
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: guy wrong in one year? Fred Fred guy, I will
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: tell you. And we've we've stood by this for years
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: I think it's harder to find the right coach than
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: it is the right quarterback. Yeah, it's true. I don't
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: think there are a lot of goods. I don't think
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: there are a lot of great coaches in the NFL.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: There there aren't. That's not head coaches. That's why it's weird.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni out of nowhere, Like, you know what, how
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: do you know? How do you know? Like, how do
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: you know? Sean McVay. He's gonna work. But maybe all
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: these other you know, Sean McVay wannabes, maybe they're not
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: gonna work. I don't know. Maybe some of them out
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: you know, Zach Taylor has had some success. Maybe he
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: knows what he's doing, you know. I like Lafleura up
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: in Green Bay. I mean, his record is ridiculous. I
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: don't think he's I don't think he knows how to coach.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: You know what. You know what really bugs me about him,
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: he knows, you know, these stupid things that bug me,
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: you know, like I have my my my quirks when
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: they're on defense at the end of the game and
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: they need to stop and he's like exhorting the crowd.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: He's in fan mode at that point, you're a head
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: coach of the Green Bay Packers, right right, and you're
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: you're you're you're a cheerleader. Wow. Um, we haven't really
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: We mentioned it briefly at the beginning of the show,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: But what do you think about like the Colts bringing
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: on Jeff Saturday to be the head coach. He's never
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: even coached in the NFL period, like at any level,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: Like the highest level he's ever coached was a couple
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: of years in high school. Seriously, it's just like the
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: obviously your tanking eccentric. It's just you know, when you
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: get a guy in there that the fans love, it's
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: just a placeholder, I guess, And you know that's all
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: we're doing right now. But like, isn't that kind of
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: an insult to the whole profession of coaching pretty much?
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: You know, like that they would do that I did
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: one of your other coaches to be an interim coach,
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: you know, yeah, yeah, I mean everything you said I
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: agree with. But it seems like urse thinks this guy
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: is going to be the guy, but he's never done anything,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: like I know, like like I thought it was just
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: kind of a gimmick to get you through this. Listen,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: We're not going to win any more games. I just
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: want somebody just coming nest everybody, someone that we sort
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: of control. Yeah, you know, shepherd us through these last
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: eight weeks and you know, we'll make it worth your
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: while and then you can. It didn't sound like Ursay
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: he was thinking that way. No, the way he was
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: talking yesterday, Wow, that was oh god. He really is tough.
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: But it does seem like an opportunity to you know,
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: give someone a chance in some regard um. But I mean,
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: I don't know. It just seemed when I saw it,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: I was like that that sounds about right. Jim Ursay
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: kind of doing his own thing, and that's how it's
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: going to be with them. I don't know. Here's my
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: you know, whacked out theory on the whole could situation.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: I think Frank Wright got what he wanted. Yeah, I
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: think Frank Wright. I don't know if he resigned. He
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: may have actually gotten fired like they said, like they said,
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: but I think he didn't like the what was going
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: going on. He didn't like what what was happening and
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: what they wanted to do in terms of like Matt Ryan,
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: because this is a money thing. You know that, right,
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: there's there's a money component to Matt Ryan not playing
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: any more games. You know, we're benching and this is
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: not because of a shoulderman who we're benching him. You know,
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: don't get this. Don't like to me. That didn't smell
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: right from the start. And I think after a couple
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: of weeks they're having a deal with the mess right.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: Just went to them and said, yeah, this isn't right.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: First of all, you owe the guy, you know, he's
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: done nothing but be professional for us. You owe the
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: guy a chance to play and work his way out
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: of this, whether it costs you money next year or not.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: And secondly, if you're going to give these guys a
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: chance to win any games, you got to give me
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: at least an opportunity to move the ball. Like I
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: heard I heard someone saying what happened at the Colts
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: like last year at least you know, when they choked
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: at the end of the year and lost their last two,
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: but they were going to make the They went nine
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: and eight last year and when Matt Ryan stopped playing quarterback,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: they were three two and one, Like it was the
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: same thing. Now they're not gonna they'll be lucky to
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: win two more games based on what I saw on Sunday.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: If that, I mean, I don't know. It's like no,
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: but I'm saying I don't know what the locker rooms like.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: If they're all Frank Wright guys and they really liked
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: their coach. I mean, but do you think there's a
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: chance that he went to them and said, you know what,
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: I'm yeah, like you there there's a chance either do
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: right and get because I think this is an orchestrated
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: money saving venture for Matt Ryan and tanking. Yeah. I
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: think they have to get off the veteran quarterback carousel
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: and they're tanking and in doing so. I think it's
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: something like if Matt Ryan gets hurt and they have
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: to guarantee a salary for next year when he's on
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: the books for like thirty six million or something like that.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: This is money. To me, This is all about money,
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: and I think Reich might have said, this isn't right
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: what we're doing. Do you think that this, uh, I
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: don't want to say, puts this style in the grave
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: of trying to continually rebuild with just a free agent quarterback.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: I mean, the way the Patriots has done it, they
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: had a year with a free agent and then they
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: drafted a guy and they're kind of now going through
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: growing pains with that guy. I just I wonder just
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: case study of difference of way of replacing that position.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: It seems like the two teams are both you know,
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: experiencing some some trouble with it. It's no easy way
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: until you get the guy who gets in there. But
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: I just it's got to be a hard way to
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: live every year bringing in a new, fetching quarterback to
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: adjust to them, gotta you know, tweet the systems and
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff with you know, new guys,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: new leaders, new personalities. I don't think anybody ever would
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: have wanted to be on the free agent Carausel. Yeah.
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: By design. It's when your team's like the Colts, when
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: you're good but you're not great, but you're not bad
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: enough to be in position to draft one of the
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: one of the good quarterbacks. Like it's not like they're
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: passing up quarterbacks in the draft to go with Philip
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: Rivers or you know, Carson went Denis and Ryan. Yeah,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Brandon's in Oregon. What's up Brandon? Hey? Um, just how
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: to little entertaining prediction for next year. Since we're on
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: the bye week, I want to see what you guys thought.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: So if the quarterback play, regardless of if we make
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: the playoffs or not, if a quarterback play just continues
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: how it has been so far this season, my prediction
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: is that if things keep going south in Green Bay
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: and Rodgers is out of there, I got Rogers coming
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: to New England on maybe like a two year deal
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: something like that, and him and Belichick go for a
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: Super Bowl before both of them hang it up. Yeah,
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: I mean, certainly, the way Bill was talking up Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: I can see where you would think that. I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: I'm sorry, what he's sank two years? Rogers coming here
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: next year and you don't know that whether that'll happen
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: or not. Yeah, okay, I'll clear it up for you, won't. No,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: I said I could see. I can't. I can understand
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: the way Bill talked up Aaron Rodgers, people thinking that,
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't think it'll happen. I just say,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: I think Max back next year. I think they're I
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: think they're gonna do it. You think so, yeah, you
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: think so? Yeah? I think fifty point three million, that's
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: what Aaron Rodgers makes yeah, I could see that happen
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: in two years. But milliscount to come here play with
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: Thanks Brandon, these guys all right, that's gonna be it
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back tomorrow,
