- 0:00In the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna explains to Arjuna at
- 0:05some length the process of the Universal Manifestation and how
- 0:10individuals are essentially driven by their nature in
- 0:13relation to the larger forces of the manifestation itself to act
- 0:17in certain ways. For most of these individuals,
- 0:22the action takes place as a result of the forces of the
- 0:25external vital nature. They are essentially subject to
- 0:29the machinery of nature through the operation of the three
- 0:32gunas. At a certain stage, as the power
- 0:36of reflection and self-awareness develops, the individual begins
- 0:41to refine his action in closer alignment to the pressure of the
- 0:45divine Force, yet still very much without conscious awareness
- 0:50of his role and how the Force is working upon him.
- 0:55Sri Krishna reveals deeper truths to Arjuna so that Arjuna
- 1:00can become a willing, conscious, and active instrument in the
- 1:04work that Sri Krishna puts before him.
- 1:07He points out that all of the warriors are already destined to
- 1:11die regardless of Arjuna's action, and he reveals to Arjuna
- 1:16a view of the Universal Being that is directing this action.
- 1:20He explains to Arjuna that now that he knows the truth of
- 1:24things, he should undertake to do what he feels is right.
- 1:29He thus solicits Arjuna's conscious, willing adherence to
- 1:33the action, rather than simply pressing him into action
- 1:37unconsciously. As the spiritual sadhana
- 1:41progresses, the seeker may go through various stages of
- 1:45increasing consciousness of the purpose of the Universal
- 1:49Creation and his role in that process.
- 1:52In his book The Mother, Sri Aurobindo outlines various
- 1:57relations that the seeker may successively gain as he becomes
- 2:01more conscious of his psychic being and his connection to the
- 2:05spiritual truth of his existence.
- 2:08Chapter 5 is dedicated to the question of a seeker becoming a
- 2:12true doer of divine works with an ever increasing inner
- 2:16awareness and consciousness. The Mother notes quote.
- 2:23It seems to me impossible to escape from this necessity of
- 2:27organizing the being around the Central Presence if one wants to
- 2:32be and is to be a conscious instrument of the Divine Force.
- 2:38You may be moved, pushed into action and used as unconscious
- 2:43instruments by the Divine Force if you have a minimum of
- 2:47goodwill and sincerity. But to become a conscious
- 2:52instrument capable of identification and conscious
- 2:57willed movements, you must have this inner organization.
- 3:02Otherwise you will always be running into a chaos somewhere,
- 3:06a confusion somewhere, or an obscurity, an unconsciousness
- 3:11somewhere. And naturally your action, even
- 3:15though guided exclusively by the Divine, will not have the
- 3:19perfection of expression it has when one has acquired a
- 3:23conscious organization around this divine center.
- 3:29It is an assiduous task which may be done at any time and
- 3:33under any circumstances, for you carry within yourself all the
- 3:39elements of the problem. You don't need anything from
- 3:43outside, no outer aid to do this work, but it requires great
- 3:49perseverance, a sort of tenacity.
- 3:53For very often it happens that there are bad creases in the
- 3:56being, habits which come from all sorts of causes, which may
- 4:01come from atavistic malformation, or also from
- 4:05education, or from the environment you have lived in,
- 4:10or from many other causes. And these bad creases you try to
- 4:14smooth out, but they wrinkle up again, and then you must begin
- 4:19the work over again many, many, many a time without getting
- 4:26discouraged before the final result is obtained.
- 4:31But nothing and nobody can prevent you from doing it, nor
- 4:35any circumstance for you carry within yourself the problem and
- 4:40the solution. End Quote Reference Sri
