- 0:00Speaker 8: Welcome to the Refrigeration Mentor Podcast. So happy that you're here diving in once again. This next episode's another community meetup@refrigerationmentor.com slash hub. Hanging out with some of my good friends, these. Technician who consistently show up, uh, at the meetings, learning, asking questions, and developing our skills together.
- 0:01And this is what we wanna really help is fast track your knowledge. And this is why Refrigeration Mentor does this, is we, we do this. To uplift the technicians in the industry. We do this to really level up the industry, uh, and and thank you to Andrew and Eric and Michael and Keith and all the people that were on the community.
- 0:02So this is for people. It's gonna be a get free access. We're gonna have a challenge for it. And basically the challenge will be coming out this week. You're just testing it and I see it's live right now. But anyone in the community can get access for this course for free. I did a, the course with Kevin Mullis.
- 0:03So that's gonna launch right there. As well as I want to talk about a couple of the events coming up. So I was down in California last week at an event called FMI. It was, it's more for retailers and like, I guess business owners that work with the retailers and manufacturers. Not really a technician event but it was a good event to go if you, you know, if you're trying to make your way into that leadership role or director role, it's good to kind of meet those different business owners which is good.
- 0:04But if you're in the area, let me know. Maybe we can meet up. I'm there for a couple of days. On the 27th, we've got a chiller program rolling out. So this is one that I partner with Pro Chiller. So if you know anyone that works on chillers or wanna learn more about how to troubleshoot chillers, service chillers, that one's gonna be rolling out as well as the intro to CO2 course.
- 0:05Really just learn together, grow together. That's what it's all about. That's what this community's all about, sharing and growing. So there, I'll, I'm gonna be doing two talks there. This one here I'm gonna be doing on, ai. I'm gonna be talking about AI again, doing doing teaching technicians how to use AI to really learn.
- 0:06Between one and 10, what is, what, where do you feel, where do you think. You are, you know, it doesn't feel it's, ? I say, what you, where do you feel? But it doesn't feel, it's a, it's a machine. ? So I ask like, where, where do you think, how correct or how accurate. It'll say I'm 7% or I'm a hundred percent accurate.
- 0:07Or at the, the evaporate, because I'll always put it, you know, right in front of the li right in front of the solenoid. But if your condenser is below, 'cause there is a pressure drop, ? You gotta, it's aqua, it's, what is it? Point nine PSI, I'll have to look it up again. What? The PSI every foot.
- 0:08But I couldn't find the document that stated that. So I looked through it like it said the, it's showed the Copeland documents. I, I then I went and looked at those Copeland documents. It didn't state it there, it just says you need a liquid line solenoid for pump down. And then it said it was in a Tecums document.
- 0:09There's gonna be more. They're not doing like five this year. I can't make it to all five this year, but it's a good event. It's free event that you can you can get to so we got a lot of great posts. There's a lot more people participating in here. Celebrate the wins. Let's, I just wanna talk about some of the, some of the circles here. So, Noah, put one up here. This is, this is something, this is a space where you know, we wanna talk about the all the good things you guys are doing out there every day.
- 0:10'Cause this is how we're learning and growing. I've just been throwing the, the latest ones from the, the controller talk in the supermarket one support chat. So if you have any questions on supermarket work or if you're running into, you know, you need some help, this is, we've got a ton of supermarket experts in the community.
- 0:11We've gained probably 30 or 40 members in the last week. So we're continuing to grow, which is awesome. Love seeing that and give a shout. I'll give a shout out to all 'em. I'm gonna send a message to everyone in the community as well. So now we got the refrigeration controls and electrical support. So I'm doing more and more controls talks.
- 0:12Popping that in there. It's like, it is like anything, if you want help on support, I used to do a lot of support when I was at Copeland, so I used to take phone calls from technicians, email support and one of the big things is, is that they're like, oh, super eats good. That means I need numbers. And so same same here, Tim.
- 0:13Okay. Okay. Enough about that. I, I'd love, we'll dive into some technical topic here, but I wanna find out how your guys' week was, how can we help you over the next week? Michael, how you doing? My man? Start with you.
- 0:14But you're gonna have to create a profile, Michael. But after you create, this might take a few minutes to get in here, but after you create a profile, you can go in and play around with it. And I'm honestly, I'm still learning it, but. It's a good starting point where I've learned a ton through here. I've actually was able to upload a program to it, pull out like Flex Combiner, put Flex the Flex Combiner into AI to really break down what the Flex Combiner ISS even doing.
- 0:15Yeah. Wow. But you're gonna need like the IO list, which you probably don't have an I right now you're doing your own IO list, I would assume, like from the RNCC, there's probably, I don't know if there's documentations on what's there, so it's like you really need to be there for that one. But if you had all the information you could, you could upload it.
- 0:16Speaker 3: let's go. I'm gonna log off
- 0:17Speaker 2: So it's probably like this one or this one. I don't know though, so it doesn't even matter. Let's just pick this one. And then you go license is an A DF, and then this is where you find a licenses. So if you're doing a, a multiflex board so whatever mal, is it a MULTIFLEX 16 AI or a multiplex eight RO or D or whatever one it is.
- 0:18Leak detector there? Probably not either, right? No, no. Yeah, it's an old school, but it, it'll be all these. So whatever you see there, you add it and then you go save, and then you go create, and then you'll go into it, and then you'll have the licenses in there, and then you can download the licenses. You probably do it from here too.
- 0:19See it should came up a their a DF file. So I just went like that and like a DF, and right here, the XM six seven, and that's the license. So this is how I figured it out for 'em. 'cause they couldn't, they couldn't find it.
- 0:20Speaker 2: And then, so now if you go in here, you go to systems licensing.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Oh no. So that one there, you would have to download, ? There's some that you can download some that are already in, I think. So you just download them like that. So if you download that, then you can just upload it when you're in here.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Then Noah had a good one on Friday that he posted.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Okay. Okay. So Eric, my man, tell me about your week. How's it going? My man? Floor frame heaters
- 0:24But it was blowing by, so I figured I wanted to change the valve plates. They, they weren't that, you know, costly and so I changed the valve plates, put everything back together, and the compressor, it ran fine. I mean, I, I got the graft and, you know, 'cause it, and grafted out, made suction. It's not blowing by anymore.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Okay, let's just see. And when you say it was blowing by, it was just blowing discharge gas into the crank, is that correct?
- 0:26Speaker 5: I'd have to get 'em, but yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no. It's not a big deal. Yeah. I'll post, I'll post them. You know, but it, it was a real weird one 'cause I put everything back together and it ran fine for like four days and then it just started blowing by again.
- 0:27Speaker 2: So when it's come back, it still would have to push through the valve plate here,
- 0:28That's the only thing I could think. I mean, some, it was weird how it held, it ran for like four days or, and then all of a sudden it started blowing by again.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So blowing back high suction into the rack. Okay.
- 0:30Speaker 2: So the test, the test for blow by the, the real test would be on your suction, putting a, a pressure probe there, and then a pressure probe on this side. So get on your crank case crank.
- 0:31But this is kind of like a wall that separates your, this side and this side. And then you have this oil pressure regulator right here. Okay? So we kind of make sure that, so the oil that comes through here, travels through here into this bearing that it comes back down through here. Okay? So we always have, a little bit lower pressure or even zero pressure because the way it goes, if you get this much oil in here, it's gonna be natural anyway. Even if it's zero pressure, it, the oil will fall into here, and then this will pick it up and, and travel it through. Now if you have blow by all of a sudden this pressure, it fills up here and you get a lot more pressure in here.
- 0:32So your pump pressure, and you'll see that you're, you wanna be 30, 40, 50 PSI where in Copeland you actually want to take it from, from right here to crank and pump. That's the best way. But everyone does it from the suction. But so do these tests for you. So you learn, come back and tell the group. So I went and I checked what the suction pressure was versus the crank, and it was zero.
- 0:33But you didn't have a blown discharge, you said, right? No. So I'd like to see what the valve plate looked like too. So when you're checking a valve plate, you put a light underneath and see if anything shines through. And then, you know, if it's anything shines through, that's valve plates shot.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah. So I, I'll have to double check with Carlisle. I know bits are for sure Cove for sure. There's no light. I'm not a hundred percent sure on the, the Carlisle different models, but realistically there should be no light going through. Yeah. A good job. No, that's a good
- 0:35Was the walls wore a little bit more than what you really thought? I don't know. ? Was the rings war and you couldn't tell if the rings were war or not, you know, just things like that. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Good job. Like good job. Just,
- 0:36Speaker 7: So I, I believe I've seen this happen three times this summer on the same unit. It's aquas snaps where the coil gets really, really dirty and it runs really, really high pressure, and it just kind of, I don't know if it rails itself to death or, or what.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Talks about some of the things to do to do with it, but
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. They have lots of different stuff. Yep. But like you said, it didn't, it didn't really take it off. Right. So.
- 0:39Speaker 7: It sounds like a, it sounds like a good deal. It's 18 service techs and and just they do plumbing and HVAC, not a lot of refrigeration.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Cool. Yeah. Yeah. I'm curious. Now we, you got us invested, so,
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah. So if you go and this is what you, you should do, like, I, I recommend you doing so they'll just share my screen one more time 'cause we're go get into this car wind software right here.
- 0:42Speaker 5: model number was different a little bit.
- 0:43Speaker 2: 6. Why They don't even have, yeah, they don't even have it on here.
- 0:44Speaker 2: No, no, I, I believe you. But what they do is they pull, just even like Copeland, they pull out information and I don't add information. So was it a
- 0:45Speaker 2: So this is where you just dive in deeper. Zero six a ER. Yeah. So this is how they do like force. I still don't know. They got one blocked off.
- 0:46Speaker 4: is it, is it because it's an R 22 unit there? No.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It should tell you. Go to this one. Oh, it's this one right here. I apologize. Put it all, and you hit run calculation and I'll spit that with the numbers, what it should be running at. And then if it doesn't spit out the those numbers, Eric, then you're outside the envelope. That's all.
- 0:48And it'll show you, us exactly like, well, it'll populate all the, the performance chart of this, this range. But we know the maximum of that is discharge 130 Fahrenheit. We know it runs a hundred. That, so this is where injection would come in for an example
- 0:49Speaker 2: Awesome, guys. Awesome. Okay, well, I will be putting something in the community about the next meetup, as well as that next challenge is coming up. That'll, that'll be happening shortly. And looking forward to seeing some of those pictures in the community, Eric, as well as Michael and Keith, if you get some stuff that you can share with the guys, either technical stuff, personal wins, really want to just help all the other people to, to join in just like you guys.
- 0:50'cause we're learning together, we're growing together, and that's what it's all about. Leveling each other up. Look forward to seeing you in the community and the next Refrigeration Metric podcast. And as always, my name is Trevor Matthews. Let's get a conversation going.
