- 0:00Speaker 1: Emily says, sprinkles don't go on donuts and what kind
- 0:02Speaker 1: of wild take is that? Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:22Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a longtime
- 0:25Speaker 1: Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy and I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Today we're discussing Guy by Emily, which originally aired on
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel on a Friday, September eighth.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We love for you to connect with us. When you're

- 0:55Speaker 1: Hamewark related at Megan and Wendy jump into our Girls
- 0:59Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark Facebook group. Lots of conversation over there. This weekend.
- 1:04Speaker 1: People had lots to say about the two new movies
- 1:06Speaker 1: as Sey, yeahalus, I loved it so much. Before we
- 1:12Speaker 1: talk about this movie, I just have one little Hallmark
- 1:15Speaker 1: news and note, oh I have one too. Okay, go ahead,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you go. First. Hallmark actors Marco Grizzini and Alvina August
- 1:24Speaker 1: welcome to Baby Girl together. Recently, I'm oh Marco. He
- 1:30Speaker 1: played the chef in that movie. Yeah, okay, right in
- 1:35Speaker 1: front of me, is that what you're saying of? Yes?
- 1:37Speaker 1: It was also recently on Hearts in the Game. He
- 1:39Speaker 1: also has a recurring role on Virgin River. Alvina August
- 1:44Speaker 1: has only been in one Hallmark movie as far as
- 1:48Speaker 1: I can tell, and it is a Second Chance at Love.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And She's also had roles on The Good Doctor, Zoe's
- 1:56Speaker 1: Extraordinary Playlist, a TV series called Animal Can Yes, starring
- 2:01Speaker 1: Joel McHale. No idea who this person is, but I'm
- 2:05Speaker 1: happy for them. Congratulations, Congratulations. I have a note it
- 2:10Speaker 1: might be a little bit old, but uh Andy mcdale,
- 2:13Speaker 1: who we know as what's her name on the show
- 2:15Speaker 1: Dell on the Way Home. Honestly, last week I could
- 2:18Speaker 1: not remember the name of the Way Home. I was like,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I'm losing my mind literally Anyway. She recently quit Instagram,
- 2:29Speaker 1: declaring that she's quote tired of the world. Of course,
- 2:32Speaker 1: this was after the wedding of her daughter Margaret Wally
- 2:36Speaker 1: and Jack Antonov and the mob that showed up to
- 2:40Speaker 1: creep on guest Taylor Swift. That was real ugly. I know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I was very disappointed in the swifties who created such
- 2:48Speaker 1: a scene for that wedding. Right, let her go to
- 2:51Speaker 1: this wedding. Let people have their day. Yes, I know
- 2:54Speaker 1: what my question is in your mind, Like you're the
- 2:58Speaker 1: person waiting outside that wedding. I'm waiting to see she's
- 3:03Speaker 1: gonna be like, oh my gosh, thank you for being here,
- 3:06Speaker 1: be my new best friend. What how is that going
- 3:08Speaker 1: to endear you to her? You think she's gonna take
- 3:10Speaker 1: a picture of you? Never you just want to catch
- 3:13Speaker 1: a glimpse from far away. I'm being hustled into a car.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I don't understand the motivation there. I'm gonna be honest.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So if you were the mother of the bride, would
- 3:21Speaker 1: you be pissed off at the world too, I'd be pissed. Look,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm not the kind of person who wants to meet celebrities. Like,
- 3:30Speaker 1: for example, my husband and some went to a concert
- 3:34Speaker 1: two weeks ago, and my parents also were at that
- 3:38Speaker 1: concert with my aunt and uncle, who they had gotten
- 3:41Speaker 1: VIP passes for because my aunt uncle are like big
- 3:44Speaker 1: into like meeting people, and they did the whole meet
- 3:46Speaker 1: and g got for the show. That holds no interest
- 3:50Speaker 1: for me, Like, if I'm gonna meet a famous person.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I wanted to be organic. Oh, I want to run
- 3:56Speaker 1: into that person on the street and strike up a conversation.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Like you're dropping your dog off at doggy daycare and
- 4:01Speaker 1: there's a super famous person who shares it's not doggy daycare,
- 4:05Speaker 1: it's training. Okay, but yes, my trainer also trains a
- 4:10Speaker 1: dog of a I guarantee every single person listening this
- 4:13Speaker 1: is really really the demo for that person. I'm not
- 4:16Speaker 1: going to out them, but would be like, oh my gosh,
- 4:19Speaker 1: like better than Taylor. I was too, and immediately got
- 4:23Speaker 1: in to make sure that it was in fact that person.
- 4:26Speaker 1: So for me, that's an interaction that I'm excited about,
- 4:28Speaker 1: right because we're on an equal playing field, got it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I'm not like, please say hi to me and meet
- 4:35Speaker 1: me and make me feel good, because I feel like,
- 4:39Speaker 1: sometimes as lovely as I think people are, I would
- 4:42Speaker 1: worry the entire time that that interaction that I'm having
- 4:45Speaker 1: in a meet and greet scenario isn't genuine. Well, because
- 4:49Speaker 1: you've paid for it. Now, okay, but let me put
- 4:52Speaker 1: you in this position. You and I are doing a
- 4:54Speaker 1: podcast tour and we have offer a bat I need
- 4:57Speaker 1: ticket put it in the universe on the Okay, go ahead,
- 5:01Speaker 1: it's gonna happen, And we've offered a VIP like meet
- 5:04Speaker 1: and great option so people can which happens? People do that? Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I would genuinely be excited to meet anybody who was
- 5:12Speaker 1: a listener of the show. So would I. But why
- 5:15Speaker 1: do I assume that someone else meeting a fan of
- 5:18Speaker 1: theirs wouldn't be excited about that? I don't know. So anyway, Hey,
- 5:24Speaker 1: before we move on to our review of Guiding Emily,
- 5:28Speaker 1: can we talk just quickly about a podcast review that
- 5:34Speaker 1: we recently received? Oh? Sure, am I to pull it up? Yeah?
- 5:39Speaker 1: First I want to say thank you to those who
- 5:42Speaker 1: have left reviews. We need them, we love them. They
- 5:46Speaker 1: help us tremendously. We compliment sandwich this. Can we read
- 5:49Speaker 1: a recent positive review? Yes, this is from listener Missy Fay,
- 5:54Speaker 1: who says love listening to you guys every time I'm
- 5:56Speaker 1: in the car, I plug in and Missy Fay, we
- 5:59Speaker 1: love that. Thank you. So why don't you read the
- 6:02Speaker 1: review that wasn't so great? Two stars? How do you
- 6:06Speaker 1: do a movie podcast with no recap? They want to
- 6:09Speaker 1: talk about movies without a recap, about what even happens?
- 6:11Speaker 1: In said movie. I'm so confused. I guess I have
- 6:14Speaker 1: to watch the movie first to be able to even
- 6:16Speaker 1: know what they're talking about. I just want to make
- 6:19Speaker 1: it clear that we do not recap these movies. Correct.
- 6:23Speaker 1: This is not a recap podcast. We review the movies.
- 6:29Speaker 1: We always tell you what movie we're reviewing. We give
- 6:32Speaker 1: a synopsis of the movie. It is highly suggested you
- 6:39Speaker 1: watch the movie before you listen to her, or maybe
- 6:41Speaker 1: our review will make you want to watch the movie.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But it's not a recap. It's not a long form
- 6:48Speaker 1: synopsis of the movie. But we do talk about what
- 6:52Speaker 1: the movie is about, right, But I think that's pretty
- 6:55Speaker 1: typical for reviews to talk about the things they liked
- 6:57Speaker 1: and the things that they didn't, but to not But
- 7:01Speaker 1: we're not going by moment. Yeah, we're not. That's that's
- 7:04Speaker 1: not our podcast. That yeah, and that's okay. I know.
- 7:08Speaker 1: So if you'd like to flood us with reviews to
- 7:11Speaker 1: bump up that rating, because you know, those two stars
- 7:14Speaker 1: are real painful, I know. Let's hear a synopsis of
- 7:17Speaker 1: Guiding Emily. Yes. This movie follows Emily as she struggles
- 7:21Speaker 1: to cope with her new reality after losing her sight.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And Garth, a potential guide dog struggling with his training.
- 7:29Speaker 1: With a bit of help, both make headway in their
- 7:31Speaker 1: important transitions. Guiding Emily was filmed in and around Vancouver, Canada,
- 7:37Speaker 1: as well as in Victoria. Beautiful filming locations. So freaking
- 7:44Speaker 1: pretty and you love Emily's house. Oh my god, I
- 7:45Speaker 1: have at Mom's house. Please take me there, like I
- 7:49Speaker 1: want to retire there the garden. I sit me on
- 7:54Speaker 1: that porch, put me in front of that lake like
- 7:58Speaker 1: so pretty. It was gorgeous. So so whoever lives in
- 8:01Speaker 1: that real life house, I'm envious. This movie was based
- 8:07Speaker 1: on the novel of the same name by author Barbara Hensk.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It's also one of four in the series Nice. The
- 8:16Speaker 1: Guy Dog. Garth was played by Dog Owen, who is
- 8:19Speaker 1: in found training to be a guy dog himself. Listen,
- 8:22Speaker 1: how cute is the name Garth for dog? So cute?
- 8:25Speaker 1: I was like, if we get a boy dog, I
- 8:27Speaker 1: love the name Garth. That's a great name, Garth Brooks. Yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 1: that's a great name. And they're not going to be
- 8:33Speaker 1: one of many Garths at the Vet. Yes, Like my
- 8:37Speaker 1: dogs definitely are not the only Bailey and Coopers of
- 8:39Speaker 1: the Vet Roxy and Penny. Yeah exactly, Yeah, I know
- 8:43Speaker 1: two other Pennies in my neighborhood alone. Sarah Drew plays Emily.
- 8:48Speaker 1: She has forty nine acting credits, including a long running
- 8:51Speaker 1: role as April Kepner on Grey's Anatomy, a show I
- 8:56Speaker 1: have not watched it in twenty years. She previously starred
- 8:59Speaker 1: in Christmas in Vienna on Hallmark. Antonio Kubo plays best
- 9:04Speaker 1: friend Matthew. He has seventy four acting credits, including a
- 9:07Speaker 1: role on Unreal Bingo as well as Hallmark movies Love
- 9:11Speaker 1: the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Garage Sale, Mysteries, A Glenbrook Christmas,
- 9:14Speaker 1: Christmas at the Golden Dragon, and A Winning Team. You
- 9:18Speaker 1: know what I think about when I see the title,
- 9:20Speaker 1: A winning team, don't you? Okay, I'm not even not
- 9:23Speaker 1: even mentioning it. Moving on. Eric McCormick, best known as
- 9:27Speaker 1: Will Truman from Will and Grace, has seventy nine acting
- 9:29Speaker 1: credits and voices the Dog of Garth. The screenplay was
- 9:33Speaker 1: written by Betsy Morris, who has nine acting credits, including
- 9:36Speaker 1: the Wedding Veil inspiration from earlier in twenty twenty three,
- 9:39Speaker 1: as well as A Kids Met Christmas and Snow Coming Okay,
- 9:42Speaker 1: here's my question for you. Well, first of all, I
- 9:46Speaker 1: asked you earlier off Mike, did we enjoy the wedding
- 9:50Speaker 1: veil inspiration? Yeah, that's yes, we did. I don't think
- 9:54Speaker 1: we didn't like any of them. No, I don't think
- 9:56Speaker 1: so either. It was the Autumn Racer Round two. In
- 10:01Speaker 1: the round two It's so hard to explain. And I
- 10:05Speaker 1: watched a Kismic Christmas last year enjoyed it too. Snow
- 10:09Speaker 1: Comming is a movie I'm not familiar with. I'm like,
- 10:12Speaker 1: is this a play on like Homecoming? I believe so? Yah?
- 10:15Speaker 1: Oh okay. Director Andy Makita has thirty two directing credits,
- 10:20Speaker 1: including episodes of Hallmark series Cedar Cove, The Good Witch,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and Chesapeake Shores, as well as Virgin River on Netflix.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I feel like Virgin River needs to be added to
- 10:31Speaker 1: our bingo card now because I think so too. There's
- 10:33Speaker 1: some huge crossover between the two. We need to do
- 10:37Speaker 1: a News and Notes bingo card. Okay, Hey, Peter Benson,
- 10:40Speaker 1: another busy actor, plays dog trainer Mark. This is another
- 10:44Speaker 1: actor who gets the best Friend energy treatment. I realized
- 10:49Speaker 1: I skipped over someone as I was in a little one.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But yeah, Matti Finocchio plays coworker hero Drew and with
- 10:58Speaker 1: one hundred acting credits. This guy deserves a leading role
- 11:01Speaker 1: in a homework movie. Give it to me. You know,
- 11:04Speaker 1: he uh shared our Instagram recently. You know, I was like,
- 11:10Speaker 1: give this guy leading role, and it was he reshared
- 11:13Speaker 1: it with like praying hands. I love him, I love him. Mate.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Toby Levins plays dead fiance Connor and has appeared in
- 11:22Speaker 1: both Unreal and Once Upon a Time, as well as
- 11:25Speaker 1: a ton of homework supporting actor roles. It's time for
- 11:28Speaker 1: first impressions. Go ahead, Okay, I have a video. I
- 11:32Speaker 1: have a well it's given me an audio clip. Here
- 11:35Speaker 1: can I play it? Yeah? This is it's a deep cut.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I really don't know if many people are gonna get it,
- 11:41Speaker 1: but here it goes. That's steel Magnolia's terms of endearment. Oh,
- 11:48Speaker 1: Shirley McClain one of the best scenes ever. But I
- 11:52Speaker 1: thought that Emily's mom was giving Shirley McLain energy in
- 11:57Speaker 1: this movie. Yeah, because Connor was such a dipshit She's
- 12:02Speaker 1: like for six hours. Yes, I just thought like I
- 12:06Speaker 1: thought there was some parallel parallel energy. Nice. My first
- 12:10Speaker 1: impression is but one word and it is Redemption totally tale.
- 12:16Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about what we liked. Well, I
- 12:20Speaker 1: just love so much about this movie. Let's just put
- 12:22Speaker 1: it out there. But I'm gonna start at the beginning.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I loved the relationship between the woman who raised Garth
- 12:27Speaker 1: and baby puppy Garth and when oh, she said goodbye Cry. Okay,
- 12:34Speaker 1: that tracks because you were training a puppy right now.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You found that very relatable, I'm guessing yeah, except that
- 12:43Speaker 1: dog is way better behaved than my dog. You mean,
- 12:46Speaker 1: you wouldn't take your dog into a restaurant and be like,
- 12:48Speaker 1: down under under the table. Not yet. I see dogs
- 12:53Speaker 1: at home depot and I'm like, Nope, we're not there yet.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Someday We're not there yet. You will, You'll get there someday.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Speaking of I very much liked this movie too. While
- 13:03Speaker 1: I was watching it, I texted Megan. I was like,
- 13:05Speaker 1: have you watched Guiding Emily yet? It's so good. Usually
- 13:09Speaker 1: we don't do a lot of that. Sometimes I'll text
- 13:12Speaker 1: you and be like this is real bad or this,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but this one was really good. And this is what
- 13:17Speaker 1: I liked so much about it. When Garth says this
- 13:21Speaker 1: is the last time she'll see me. It set up
- 13:25Speaker 1: such good suspense for me because it tells the audience
- 13:29Speaker 1: Emily's gonna lose her sight at some point, but we
- 13:31Speaker 1: don't know how or when it's going to happen. So
- 13:35Speaker 1: for every like scene after that, there's like a car ride,
- 13:38Speaker 1: She's crossing the street, like, I'm like, how's it gonna happen?
- 13:41Speaker 1: How's it going to happen? And then spoiler alert if
- 13:45Speaker 1: you haven't watched the movie, skip right through this part
- 13:48Speaker 1: when the rock falls and hits her in the head.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I gasped, Yeah, like this, I did this. It was
- 13:56Speaker 1: so good. I agree, I agree, it was so good. Look,
- 14:01Speaker 1: we just touched on this. I loved Mattie Finocchio's best
- 14:05Speaker 1: friend energy in this movie. And while I want to
- 14:07Speaker 1: see him play the lead in the main love interest,
- 14:10Speaker 1: he just shone in this movie the way he showed
- 14:14Speaker 1: up for Emily. He had these like kind of funny,
- 14:16Speaker 1: comedic moments, but he also was like this rock behind her,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and he was like, we're gonna kind of push you
- 14:22Speaker 1: along the way and step back when it's time, but
- 14:25Speaker 1: we're not gonna let you just crawl into a hole
- 14:29Speaker 1: and give up on the life. It's a kind of
- 14:31Speaker 1: friend you want. Yes, I loved it. And then he
- 14:35Speaker 1: makes an app that you can hear, the scratching, the
- 14:38Speaker 1: sound of crossing something off your to do list. I
- 14:41Speaker 1: knew you would love that. I did love that. I
- 14:45Speaker 1: love him. I thought Sarah Drew was incredible. I'm not
- 14:50Speaker 1: familiar with her. When I was looking through her IMDb,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I saw that she had played a mom on the
- 14:58Speaker 1: Freeform show Cruel Summer the first season of it, which
- 15:02Speaker 1: is a really good show. Second season didn't like so much.
- 15:05Speaker 1: First season was really good, and I was like, ah,
- 15:07Speaker 1: that's the face. But I thought she was incredible. I
- 15:10Speaker 1: found her so believable. She's a great actor. There were
- 15:14Speaker 1: several scenes that just sent me. Let me go through that, please.
- 15:19Speaker 1: When she wakes up in the hospital room and she's
- 15:21Speaker 1: like freaking out a little bit, but like it is
- 15:23Speaker 1: like asking questions, like what happened? When happened? Thought that
- 15:26Speaker 1: was really good. After they take the bandages off and
- 15:29Speaker 1: she still can't sing, and she's like, I didn't say anything.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I was crying. I don't cry during Hallmark movies hardly. Ever.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I usually fall asleep. I did not fall asleep in
- 15:40Speaker 1: this one. When her jerk boyfriend says he's moving to
- 15:43Speaker 1: Tokyo and she's like, you need to leave, like right now.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I was like yes. And even her interactions with the
- 15:50Speaker 1: neighbor girl, Zoe, like she's so warm and like sweet
- 15:55Speaker 1: to this girl, like she has just been blinded, she
- 16:00Speaker 1: has lot, she's so like offering advice. I'm like, yeah,
- 16:04Speaker 1: it was just so good. We mentioned Grays and Aati.
- 16:08Speaker 1: She was on that show over ten years, dramatic show,
- 16:12Speaker 1: giving those acting chops. She had this storyline on Grey's
- 16:15Speaker 1: Anatomy where she was pregnant with the baby who had
- 16:19Speaker 1: a condition that was not compatible with life. Oh and
- 16:24Speaker 1: she played a very hardcore Christian on that show who
- 16:28Speaker 1: didn't believe in abortion and who didn't and there's this
- 16:32Speaker 1: really incredible scene where she finds out what like that
- 16:35Speaker 1: the baby has and how she's gonna have to deliver
- 16:38Speaker 1: that baby, and her mother in law and her husband
- 16:41Speaker 1: are with her and she's like, how am I going
- 16:42Speaker 1: to do this? I saw it on TikTok the other day.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Do you ever see people share like clips of TV
- 16:48Speaker 1: shows on TikTok. It's a weird time of TikTok to
- 16:51Speaker 1: be on because you'll get like a sixty second clip
- 16:53Speaker 1: of a TV show and you're like, wait, now I
- 16:54Speaker 1: need to see more, and you've watched it. You'll start
- 16:57Speaker 1: getting more clips and then I'm like, why don't I
- 16:59Speaker 1: just go watch the show. I've watched five minutes of
- 17:01Speaker 1: the show via sixty second clips anyway, and it was good.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Should see. She's great. She's great. I'd love to see
- 17:09Speaker 1: her in more Hallmark movies. I wonder if she will
- 17:12Speaker 1: or not. I don't know. I think she could. I
- 17:15Speaker 1: think she's great. I thought Maddie really brought it again
- 17:18Speaker 1: in the comedy. His line I've watched a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 1: unsolved mysteries and this is always how it starts to
- 17:23Speaker 1: Connor was a real singer to me. Speaking of real singers,
- 17:28Speaker 1: the food server who helped her not once but twice
- 17:33Speaker 1: in this movie, when she comes back to the restaurant
- 17:36Speaker 1: she's with Matthew Now, the server says like the kne
- 17:40Speaker 1: isn't the only new upgrade. I was like, I love
- 17:43Speaker 1: the lines in this movie. I loved Lindy, yes I
- 17:47Speaker 1: mentioned it earlier. Loved her mom, Martha played by Christine Willis,
- 17:52Speaker 1: when she just lays into Connor for being like I
- 17:56Speaker 1: don't want to say that Connor was a jerk. I
- 17:59Speaker 1: actually I thought Connor was a really nice guy until
- 18:02Speaker 1: like he couldn't cope. I thought he was a nice
- 18:06Speaker 1: guy until she got hurt. But you don't just get
- 18:08Speaker 1: to be a nice guy for the good part. It's
- 18:10Speaker 1: in sickness and in hell. I agree, he fell down
- 18:13Speaker 1: on the job, as she said. And that's one of
- 18:16Speaker 1: the things I liked about this movie that I often
- 18:19Speaker 1: don't like about movies where they start off in one
- 18:20Speaker 1: relationship and end up in another. I thought they did
- 18:23Speaker 1: that really well. She was all in on that relationship
- 18:26Speaker 1: with Connor. It wasn't like they were a bad match.
- 18:28Speaker 1: They clearly seemed like they were good for each other
- 18:31Speaker 1: in a lot of ways. She was still committed to him,
- 18:35Speaker 1: even once the crack started to show when he seemed
- 18:38Speaker 1: to not be willing to and I want to talk
- 18:40Speaker 1: about this and did you see that? But there were
- 18:42Speaker 1: some signs that he was struggling to do what she
- 18:45Speaker 1: needed him to do. Obviously, one of the most obvious
- 18:48Speaker 1: is when she gets left alone for six hours, what
- 18:50Speaker 1: the hell man seriously and walks away from her when
- 18:54Speaker 1: she's in the bathroom. You too, even a match this
- 18:57Speaker 1: phone call is so important I have to walk outside
- 18:59Speaker 1: and leave my recently blinded girlfriend on her first day
- 19:03Speaker 1: out in it. No, I just it's outrageous. So I
- 19:08Speaker 1: thought they handled that and that relationship was fully wrapped
- 19:11Speaker 1: up before she even began to have feelings. And whether
- 19:15Speaker 1: or not she had feelings for that friend before, it's
- 19:17Speaker 1: not set up that way. It's just she genuinely was
- 19:20Speaker 1: her best friend, right, and she saw him in a
- 19:22Speaker 1: different light after the fact. I thought that was well done.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I agree. It wasn't like, oh, I have this relationship
- 19:28Speaker 1: weiting in the wings for me as my other one
- 19:30Speaker 1: falls apart. Yeah, that's what I was worried about when
- 19:33Speaker 1: it started. I was like, oh, no, Megan's gonna hate
- 19:35Speaker 1: this because she's gonna jump relationships. But I really did it.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I think they did it well. Yeah, and I also
- 19:42Speaker 1: liked that Matthew showed up for her as a friend
- 19:46Speaker 1: and wasn't there with ulterior motives. And even the first
- 19:49Speaker 1: time when they almost kiss, he kind of like puts
- 19:54Speaker 1: that distance between them, and to me, I'm reading more
- 19:56Speaker 1: into it, but it felt like he was not trying
- 19:58Speaker 1: to take advantage of this city situation like I'm here
- 20:01Speaker 1: altruistically as your friend, not in the hopes of getting
- 20:06Speaker 1: this reward, so to speak. I really appreciated that they
- 20:10Speaker 1: had cast that included blind actors. Oh yeah, I wanted
- 20:14Speaker 1: to talk about that in a minute. Okay. The other
- 20:17Speaker 1: thing is there's some real wowis Howie's in this movie? Dude,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with before this weekend Antonio Coupo and
- 20:28Speaker 1: Toby Levins who plays Connor, Like I know he was
- 20:31Speaker 1: like not a great character, but I think these men
- 20:34Speaker 1: are quite handsome. Oh agree, agree, let's talk wish Okay.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I want to go back to the disabilbility elephant in
- 20:44Speaker 1: the room. Okay, And I just because people are talking
- 20:46Speaker 1: about it, this is an ongoing conversation we have here
- 20:50Speaker 1: about should characters with disabilities be played by actors with disabilities?
- 20:54Speaker 1: And typically I'm in favor of that strongly. Yeah, this
- 20:59Speaker 1: was a different case because you've got a character who
- 21:03Speaker 1: was sighted in the beginning of the movie and had
- 21:06Speaker 1: to go through the process of losing their sight. And
- 21:09Speaker 1: I'm personally and I don't really get to be the
- 21:11Speaker 1: person to make that call, but as a viewer, I'm
- 21:13Speaker 1: okay with the choice to use a sided actor. For
- 21:15Speaker 1: her role, particularly again to your point with using blind
- 21:22Speaker 1: actors to play other blind actors in the movie. Oh,
- 21:26Speaker 1: how do you feel about that? While I was watching,
- 21:29Speaker 1: there was a little bit of like push and pull
- 21:31Speaker 1: of what I was thinking. But I was like, well,
- 21:33Speaker 1: how else would they have done it? You have a
- 21:36Speaker 1: sighted person who tragically becomes blind. I suppose the argument
- 21:42Speaker 1: is a blind person could have played a sighted person. Okay,
- 21:46Speaker 1: that's fair. That's fair too. I guess it's not a
- 21:51Speaker 1: clear line for me from this case. Okay, I agree.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Opposed to Chandler Massey's character in a previous movie, that
- 21:57Speaker 1: was a very clear line he should not have taken
- 21:59Speaker 1: that role. Yeah, what's the feedback ban on that? Where
- 22:04Speaker 1: are people landing on that? I've seen people on both
- 22:07Speaker 1: sides side. Okay. I don't want to be the person
- 22:10Speaker 1: who's like, h, it doesn't matter to me in this case,
- 22:12Speaker 1: because Sarah drew such a great actor. I don't want
- 22:14Speaker 1: to say that. I just what do you do in
- 22:17Speaker 1: this case? I don't know, gotcha. I thought they did
- 22:20Speaker 1: a nice job of talking about all of the modifications
- 22:25Speaker 1: person who has lost their sight can use. They talked
- 22:28Speaker 1: about like descriptive audio on television programs, and they showed
- 22:33Speaker 1: her going through the school for the Blind and her
- 22:37Speaker 1: friend creating the app, and I was really interested in
- 22:39Speaker 1: her desk that up. He's like, Oh, I've got a
- 22:41Speaker 1: cup holder for your coffee mugs. You don't accidentally knock
- 22:43Speaker 1: it over on your desk. Ye, I thought that was interesting.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I think that's interesting too. Sometimes I get a little
- 22:51Speaker 1: why do I say this? My thought is like, I'm
- 22:55Speaker 1: curious as a viewer about the modifications. Yes, However, sometimes,
- 23:03Speaker 1: like you know, when movies are trying to teach us
- 23:07Speaker 1: something and it comes off as I guess maybe it's
- 23:11Speaker 1: like the closest example of recent is like The Love
- 23:15Speaker 1: and the Great Smoking Mountains. Yeah, but did it feel
- 23:18Speaker 1: like that a little bit to me? Oh? Because I
- 23:21Speaker 1: felt Love in the Great Smoking Mountains to me felt
- 23:24Speaker 1: like and now a moment for learning. No? Oh, okay, yes,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I agree it was happening in that movie. In this movie. No,
- 23:32Speaker 1: it was not happening like that. I thought it was
- 23:35Speaker 1: done well in this Okay. That's yes, that's how I
- 23:37Speaker 1: maybe want to learn more. Yes, it didn't feel like
- 23:41Speaker 1: they were taking a break from the story to teach
- 23:44Speaker 1: me something. Yes, I'm glad. I clarifyed, do you have
- 23:46Speaker 1: anything you wished for? I do just one. I'm not
- 23:49Speaker 1: sure I needed the voice of Garth oh Over for Garth,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I so disagree. Okay, you didn't enjoy it. I thought
- 23:58Speaker 1: it was cute and I enjoyed his story, but his
- 24:01Speaker 1: story was so secondary to like, Sure, what was really
- 24:06Speaker 1: happening in this movie? Now, I'm very curious about the
- 24:10Speaker 1: books in that book series, like how that like develops.
- 24:15Speaker 1: First of all, when we have this talking dog, very cute.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I loved all of it. I love dogs. I'm here
- 24:23Speaker 1: for it. I thought, oh my god, this dog is
- 24:25Speaker 1: going to die. Oh I bet it happens in one
- 24:28Speaker 1: of the older book series. What do you think in
- 24:30Speaker 1: like the later book series. No, right, well, you know
- 24:34Speaker 1: I did think when they're like it takes two years
- 24:36Speaker 1: of training, which makes sense, like you can't give a
- 24:39Speaker 1: puppy to a person who needs care. Yeah, that they
- 24:45Speaker 1: need to be fully dialed in on their training. Sure,
- 24:48Speaker 1: I was like, oh man, two years in a lab
- 24:50Speaker 1: that maybe lives for ten. Yeah, I know that made
- 24:55Speaker 1: me sad. I just thought about that. I don't know,
- 24:57Speaker 1: like I just what did you think about the voiceover?
- 25:00Speaker 1: So I kind of loved it. So when I when
- 25:02Speaker 1: we were looking at this movie, when we were doing
- 25:04Speaker 1: our schedule, I saw Eric McCormick and I thought, oh
- 25:07Speaker 1: my gosh, Eric McCormick in a Hallmark movie. And then
- 25:09Speaker 1: it said as Garth, and I thought, oh gosh. I
- 25:13Speaker 1: thought it was first of all, Eric McCormick really shown
- 25:16Speaker 1: as a dog. Boy. Thought he was great. I love
- 25:18Speaker 1: I didn't think it sounded anything like him. Oh interesting, okay,
- 25:22Speaker 1: but that's just me. Yeah. The other thing is I
- 25:26Speaker 1: thought it was real cute. I thought it added a
- 25:31Speaker 1: little bit of sweetness and light to the movie. I
- 25:34Speaker 1: thought it helped us tell Garth's story a little bit
- 25:36Speaker 1: more like I don't know how else you would have.
- 25:42Speaker 1: You couldn't made that connection to totally. Yeah, you couldn't.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So because obviously the woman's not gonna be like we
- 25:49Speaker 1: saw you in a coffee shelf years ago, but Garth remembers,
- 25:56Speaker 1: which of course is silly and coincidental. I didn't mind that.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I didn't mind the like Garth remembers her throughout his life, well,
- 26:02Speaker 1: that she imprinted on him. Oh then I start to wonder, like,
- 26:06Speaker 1: is does that really happen with dogs? You know, I
- 26:11Speaker 1: lost a dog this summer, so like I think about
- 26:14Speaker 1: like what that dog thinks about, and then here we
- 26:16Speaker 1: have like this voice over this dog is putting like
- 26:20Speaker 1: human thoughts to what dogs really feel or think. You know.
- 26:23Speaker 1: I know, well, okay, I hear you. Because last week
- 26:28Speaker 1: my dog did his first day real day at the
- 26:30Speaker 1: trainer and it was a little rough day for him.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I think a long day. M hmmm. They're nice to
- 26:35Speaker 1: him there, to be clear, I just think it's a lot,
- 26:37Speaker 1: a lot of hard work. And when we got out
- 26:39Speaker 1: of the car when I got home, I like opened
- 26:41Speaker 1: the door and I went to the backseat and he
- 26:43Speaker 1: was just sitting there and I kind of just like
- 26:44Speaker 1: leaned in and he just put his face next to
- 26:46Speaker 1: my face, and I applied all of those human emotion.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Are you just tired because you've been playing with other
- 26:52Speaker 1: dogs all day? Are you like, don't make me go bad?
- 26:56Speaker 1: What right? So? And I it took me like he
- 27:00Speaker 1: goes back tomorrow, but it's taken me a full six days.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I really was like, no, we're not doing this anymore.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Stop it, which obviously I know is the wrong choice.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And I do think he genuinely liked it. But I
- 27:10Speaker 1: applied all of those human notions to him. Don't you
- 27:13Speaker 1: need somebody to be like, no, that's not what a
- 27:15Speaker 1: dog is thinking. Well, and that's why I asked you.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I'm like, are we doing the wrong thing? Is this terrible? Really?
- 27:21Speaker 1: My answer was no, I sleep over it. Oh my gosh,
- 27:24Speaker 1: my goad. I've laid awake being like, oh gosh, are
- 27:27Speaker 1: you ready for did you see that? Yes? I just
- 27:29Speaker 1: have a couple two little things. Okay. In the hospital.
- 27:32Speaker 1: When Emily first wakes up, Connor's in a suit. Oh okay,
- 27:36Speaker 1: he's in like a sport coat and a work shirt. Okay.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I don't understand the timeline. They were hiking. He was
- 27:41Speaker 1: in hiking clothes. She goes to the hospital, she has surgery.
- 27:44Speaker 1: At some point he's left the hospital, so maybe she's
- 27:46Speaker 1: been there for a day or two before she's conscious again.
- 27:49Speaker 1: M hm. You went to work during that time, apparently, So,
- 27:53Speaker 1: like I understand, maybe her mom comes and she's like,
- 27:56Speaker 1: go home, take a shower, and you come back, but
- 27:57Speaker 1: you're still in like sitting in the hospital. Close. Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 1: that to me was like such a foreshadowing of who
- 28:03Speaker 1: his character was When I saw that, Like, this is
- 28:06Speaker 1: your priority that you're already working. Yeah, how it couldn't
- 28:10Speaker 1: have been more than forty eight hours? Yeah, good catch.
- 28:13Speaker 1: What's your other one? Emily says, sprinkles don't go on donuts,
- 28:17Speaker 1: And what kind of wild take is that? Right? That's
- 28:20Speaker 1: my donut of choice. I love a sprinkles. I love
- 28:23Speaker 1: many donuts. I do not have a one true donut,
- 28:27Speaker 1: but I love a sprinkle. Who sprinkle donuts are very popular,
- 28:30Speaker 1: I know, I love a sprinkle. That was so weird,
- 28:34Speaker 1: what a weird note? I only have one? Did you
- 28:38Speaker 1: see that? And it was once hen where Emily's wearing
- 28:42Speaker 1: bandages and sunglasses, and it's shot from the side, and
- 28:47Speaker 1: I can see that the bandages like far enough away
- 28:49Speaker 1: from her eye that like she's I could see her
- 28:52Speaker 1: eyelashes blinking. Oh interesting. You know, obviously she's not like
- 28:56Speaker 1: walking around with real bandages taped to her eyes. I mean,
- 29:01Speaker 1: they are real bandages. My point is like they're probably
- 29:04Speaker 1: not like really stuck on tightly. I just thought, well,
- 29:08Speaker 1: that's weird. Maybe they're just blocking the light. They're not
- 29:11Speaker 1: actually like because she had graduated at one point they
- 29:14Speaker 1: were like fully wrapped around her head, right, and then
- 29:16Speaker 1: she graduated too. They were just over her eyes, right,
- 29:19Speaker 1: Maybe she had graduated to like a looser bandage that
- 29:23Speaker 1: was blocking the light but allowed some airfla. I got
- 29:26Speaker 1: a question too as I was watching. I just just
- 29:29Speaker 1: thought about this. They didn't show her at all getting ready,
- 29:33Speaker 1: getting dressed for the day, showering, any sort of like
- 29:36Speaker 1: self care stuff. Yes, And maybe it's just because it's
- 29:40Speaker 1: difficult to show that. She didn't want to portray a
- 29:43Speaker 1: blind person as a sighted person, you knowing your clothes
- 29:46Speaker 1: on right exactly. I was actually like wondering, like, oh,
- 29:49Speaker 1: I haven't seen any of that stuff, And then now
- 29:52Speaker 1: with some perspective, I'm like, oh, maybe because it would
- 29:56Speaker 1: have just maybe been in poor taste. I don't know. Yeah,
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm always curious about details like that. I love logistics
- 30:02Speaker 1: and like the how to behind things, right, And there
- 30:05Speaker 1: was one moment where she was learning to use the
- 30:07Speaker 1: walking stick and she was wearing this really cute outfit.
- 30:09Speaker 1: She had like these like stripey pants on, and I
- 30:12Speaker 1: was like, what's the what's the logistics there? Right? I
- 30:17Speaker 1: did notice her clothes, they were all very cute. Let's
- 30:21Speaker 1: rate this movie, okay, I'm ready five stars. Did you
- 30:26Speaker 1: I gave it four point seven to five, and it
- 30:28Speaker 1: was just because of the voiceover. I giving it four
- 30:32Speaker 1: point seven to five because it feels wild to give
- 30:35Speaker 1: a movie five stars. I can't think of. There wasn't
- 30:37Speaker 1: anything I didn't like. I always loved it. Okay, See
- 30:41Speaker 1: I feel like a jerk knocking it down a little bit.
- 30:44Speaker 1: You didn't love the dog, It's okay. I loved the
- 30:47Speaker 1: movie though. I thought the movie was incredible. And why
- 30:52Speaker 1: is it on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. And I'm gonna
- 30:54Speaker 1: say it, Hallmark and Movie Mysteries puts out better movies
- 30:57Speaker 1: than Hallmark often. Yes, what the heck? I don't get
- 31:01Speaker 1: I don't get it. What Multiverselatemark drama movie. But it
- 31:06Speaker 1: was on Movies and Mysteries because cable subscriptions sometimes includes
- 31:11Speaker 1: the Hallmark channel, but not Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. And
- 31:13Speaker 1: they want you to bump up that that extra Okay,
- 31:16Speaker 1: that's my guess. Whatever, that's my guess. That's why I
- 31:18Speaker 1: love all the movie. I would totally watch it again,
- 31:21Speaker 1: me too. Thanks for listening to this week's episode of
