- 0:22Kid Cast Daily starts yours. Welcome to Kick Ass Daily, where
- 0:27we bring news, trivia, fun facts, and more just for curious
- 0:31kids like you. Today's episode is all about a
- 0:34board game you might have played with your family, or at least
- 0:37heard about Monopoly. Get ready to roll the dice, buy
- 0:40some properties, and maybe even build a hotel or two because
- 0:44we're diving into the world of Monopoly.
- 0:46Let's start at the very beginning.
- 0:48Imagine you and your friends are explorers in a new city, and you
- 0:52have a chance to buy up streets, build houses, and collect rent
- 0:56when people land on your spaces. That's basically what Monopoly
- 0:59is all about. It's a game where you try to
- 1:02become the richest player by buying and trading properties,
- 1:05building houses and hotels, and collecting rent from anyone who
- 1:09lands on your spaces. But watch out, if you run out of
- 1:13money, you could go bankrupt and be out of the game.
- 1:16So how do you play Monopoly? Let's break it down step by
- 1:20step. First, everyone picks a game
- 1:22piece. These are the tiny tokens that
- 1:24you move around the board. You might pick the dog, the car,
- 1:28the thimble, or even the top hat.
- 1:30Did you know that some of these pieces have changed over time?
- 1:33The original Monopoly game had tokens like a Lantern, a purse,
- 1:37and even a rocking horse. Once everyone has their game
- 1:41piece, you start at the corner marked GO.
- 1:44Every time you pass Go, you collect $200 from the bank.
- 1:48It's like getting your allowance for making it all the way around
- 1:51the board. The bank is where all the money
- 1:54comes from the game. Kind of like a giant Piggy Bank
- 1:56that everyone shares. Now.
- 1:59Each player takes turns rolling 2 dice to move their piece
- 2:02around the board. Wherever you land, you have
- 2:05choices to make. Most spaces are named after
- 2:08streets and places like Boardwalk or Park Place.
- 2:11If you land on a property and no one owns it yet, you can buy it
- 2:15from the bank. If you buy it, you get a colored
- 2:17card that matches the property and you get to put your name on
- 2:20it. It's like buying your very own
- 2:22piece of a city. But what if you land on a
- 2:25property someone else owns? Uh oh.
- 2:28You have to pay them rent. It's like visiting your friend's
- 2:30lemonade stand and having to buy a cup.
- 2:33The rent you pay depends on how many houses or hotels your
- 2:37friend has built on that property.
- 2:39The more they build, the more you have to pay.
- 2:42Speaking of building, here's where things get really fun.
- 2:45If you own all the properties of the same color, like all the
- 2:48orange ones or all the blue ones, you have a monopoly.
- 2:52That's where the game gets its name.
- 2:54Having a monopoly means you can start building houses on those
- 2:57properties. Each house you build makes the
- 3:00rent go up, so if someone lands there they have to pay you even
- 3:03more. If you build 4 houses on a
- 3:06property, you can upgrade to a hotel.
- 3:08Hotels are the best. They make the rent sky high.
- 3:12Imagine your friend lands on your hotel and suddenly you're
- 3:16rolling in monopoly money. But monopoly isn't just about
- 3:20buying and building. There are other spaces on the
- 3:22board too. Some spaces are railroads and
- 3:26utilities. If you own a railroad, anyone
- 3:28who lands there pays you rent. If you own more than one
- 3:31railroad, you get even more money.
- 3:34Utilities are like the water company and the electric
- 3:36company. If someone lands there and you
- 3:39own it, they pay you based on how much they roll on the dice.
- 3:43Then there are chance and community chest cards.
- 3:46When you land on one of these spaces, you draw a card from the
- 3:49pile. The cards might give you money,
- 3:52takes them away, or send you somewhere else on the board.
- 3:55Sometimes they even send you to jail.
- 3:58Don't worry, jail in Monopoly isn't scary.
- 4:01It's just a place where you have to wait until your next turn or
- 4:04pay a little fine to get out. Did you know the longest game of
- 4:07Monopoly ever played lasted for 70 days?
- 4:11That's more than two months. That's a lot of buying, selling,
- 4:15and building. Most games don't last that long,
- 4:17but sometimes Monopoly can feel like it goes on forever,
- 4:21especially when everyone is really good at saving their
- 4:24money. Now let's talk about trading.
- 4:27Trading is a big part of Monopoly.
- 4:29Imagine you have two orange properties, but you really want
- 4:32to get the third one. To make a Monopoly, you can make
- 4:35a deal with another player. Maybe you offer them some money
- 4:38or another property in exchange. Creating is like swapping snacks
- 4:42at lunchtime. You give up something you have
- 4:44for something you want even more.
- 4:46The best Monopoly players are usually great at making deals
- 4:49that help them win. But be careful.
- 4:52If you spend all your money too quickly, you might not be able
- 4:55to pay rent when you land on someone else's property.
- 4:58If you can't pay, you might have to mortgage your properties.
- 5:02That means you turn your property card over and get some
- 5:04money from the bank, but you can't collect rent on it until
- 5:07you pay the bank back. If you still can't pay, you
- 5:10might have to sell your houses or even give up your property to
- 5:13someone else. The last player left with money
- 5:16and property is the winner. Here's a fun fact.
- 5:20The game of Monopoly was originally invented over 100
- 5:23years ago. It started as a game called the
- 5:26Landlord's Game, which was designed to teach people about
- 5:29how money and property work. Over time, the game changed and
- 5:33became the Monopoly we know today.
- 5:35There are now versions of Monopoly for different cities,
- 5:38countries, and even famous movies.
- 5:41You can play Monopoly with Pokémon, Disney characters, or
- 5:44even on a video game. Did you know that the most
- 5:47expensive Monopoly set ever made was worth over $2,000,000?
- 5:51It was made with real gold and diamonds.
- 5:54That's a lot more than the fake money in the regular game.
- 5:58Monopoly teaches us some important lessons too.
- 6:01It helps you practice math by adding and subtracting money,
- 6:04and it teaches you to think ahead and make good choices.
- 6:08You have to decide when to buy, when to save, and when to make a
- 6:11trade. It's a little bit like running
- 6:13your own business, all from the comfort of your living room.
- 6:17So let's recap what we've learned about Monopoly today.
- 6:20First, Monopoly is a board game where you try to buy properties,
- 6:24build houses and hotels, and collect rent from your friends.
- 6:28Everyone picks a game piece and moves around the board by
- 6:31rolling dice. When you land on a property, you
- 6:34can buy it if it's not owned yet.
- 6:36If someone else owns it, you pay them rent.
- 6:39If you own all the properties of the same color, you can build
- 6:41houses and then hotels to make even more rent.
- 6:45There are special spaces like railroads, utilities, chance,
- 6:49and community chest. Some of these can help you, and
- 6:52some might cost you a little money or send you to jail, but
- 6:55don't worry, it's all part of the game.
- 6:57Trading is a big part of Monopoly, where you swap
- 7:00properties or money with other players to get what you need.
- 7:04The goal is to be the last player left with money and
- 7:06properties. We also learned some cool facts,
- 7:09like how Monopoly has been around for more than 100 years
- 7:12and that there are so many different versions you can play.
- 7:15The next time you play Monopoly, remember it's not just about
- 7:18luck. It's about making smart choices,
- 7:21practicing your math, and having fun with your family and
- 7:24friends. And who knows, maybe you'll
- 7:27become the next Monopoly champion.
