- 0:03Speaker 1: Figure, we'll bring out the craziest stat of the week
- 0:06Speaker 1: right before we talk to Tim kirkchen who We'll be
- 0:09Speaker 1: back with the TV crowd here in two minutes and
- 0:11Speaker 1: we'll talk Little League World Classic or Little League Baseball
- 0:14Speaker 1: Classic coming up on ESPN on Sunday. But the Twins
- 0:18Speaker 1: are forty four and one twenty five against the Yankees
- 0:22Speaker 1: since two thousand and two. Aja, your boys got smacked again.
- 0:26Speaker 1: You're og franchise can't really handle the Yanks. They're getting
- 0:32Speaker 1: them hot.
- 0:34Speaker 2: They are I don't know what to say.
- 0:36Speaker 3: This is one of the most unbelievable stats of all times.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Just players, turnover, managers turnover, front offices have turned well,
- 0:44Speaker 3: I guess the Yankees have stayed the same with the
- 0:46Speaker 3: front offices of the Twins have turned over, and they've
- 0:50Speaker 3: changed stadiums. Both organizations have got new stadiums in this
- 0:53Speaker 3: time and nothing has changed the Yankees. Yeah, the Yankees
- 1:00Speaker 3: beat the Twins. So that's it. The Yankees beat the Twins.
- 1:03Speaker 4: The pole AADs haven't taken one at bat. The pole
- 1:06Speaker 4: AADs haven't taken one at bat. This is an anomaly
- 1:08Speaker 4: that we get to look at. But shocker AJ is
- 1:11Speaker 4: involved with another team that has a brutal record forty
- 1:16Speaker 4: one and forty one and one twenty one white sox
- 1:20Speaker 4: AJ's team forty four and one five Twins.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Had nothing, had nothing to do with either one of
- 1:28Speaker 3: those things. Just saying, That's what I'm saying.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Once you leave, they all suck. So stop leaving, stop quitting,
- 1:36Speaker 4: stay with the team, help them out.
- 1:38Speaker 3: One time, have grossed me. I didn't want to leave
- 1:42Speaker 3: the Twins. I was traded traded away. Still they got
- 1:45Speaker 3: you know what they got from Mick, Mick abel and tight,
- 1:48Speaker 3: so go able and tight. See what they turn those
- 1:52Speaker 3: guys into.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So their record against the Yankees produces a two sixty
- 1:58Speaker 1: winning percentage two thousand and two including playoffs, and that
- 2:01Speaker 1: includes nine straight losses against all other teams. Since two
- 2:05Speaker 1: thousand and two, the Twins have a five fourteen winning percentage.
- 2:10Speaker 1: What it's not like we're looking at this team like, oh,
- 2:12Speaker 1: it's one of the worst teams ever. This franchise been
- 2:14Speaker 1: a joke for twenty years. Like, no, they consistently, we'll
- 2:17Speaker 1: we'll hang around, not against the Yankees. We'll ask Tim
- 2:21Speaker 1: about it.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I'm suressing in the playoffs. Look at the just use
- 2:24Speaker 3: the record in the playoffs, use the playoff record, it's
- 2:26Speaker 3: even worse.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Sorry, Twins fans, I know today's tough, but we cover
- 2:33Speaker 1: the news. Legendary Tim Kirkton joining us right now. He'll
- 2:41Speaker 1: be part of ESPN's Baseball Night coverage live on site
- 2:43Speaker 1: from Williamsport this Sunday for the Little League Classic.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Excited to get into that real quick before we do. Tim.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Great to see you, Great to have you on.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Did you hear our conversation at all about that ridiculous
- 2:52Speaker 1: Twins record since two thousand and two.
- 2:54Speaker 5: I'm sure you've been following that one.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's absurd. I can't understand it. I was driving
- 3:00Speaker 2: home last night from New York listening to the Yankees
- 3:04Speaker 2: Twins game, and Paul Molitor was doing the color and
- 3:08Speaker 2: he made kind of the same point that Aj did.
- 3:11Speaker 2: That Look, this doesn't make any sense, he goes. The
- 3:15Speaker 2: players aren't even aware of it. The Yankee players aren't
- 3:18Speaker 2: aware of it. But it just keeps on happening. And
- 3:22Speaker 2: this is why baseball is so great, and so many
- 3:26Speaker 2: things are just unexplainable, and this is one of them.
- 3:30Speaker 2: There's no reason the Twins should be this bad against
- 3:33Speaker 2: the Yankees and Yankees. This good against the Twins. But
- 3:37Speaker 2: this is why baseball is so good, is it doesn't
- 3:40Speaker 2: make any sense so many days of the week.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Yeah, this is wacky, wacky news.
- 3:45Speaker 1: While we're on them too, what did you think of
- 3:48Speaker 1: the team announcing that they're going to keep the ownership
- 3:50Speaker 1: group intact there? I mean, we had been led to
- 3:53Speaker 1: believe for the past year that it was going to
- 3:55Speaker 1: be a new leaf for this ball club. Were you
- 3:57Speaker 1: surprised as I was to see that they're actually hold on.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I was surprised. I am surprised, but maybe we shouldn't be.
- 4:06Speaker 2: You know, I live outside of Washington, d C. And
- 4:09Speaker 2: the Nationals have been up for sale for a long time,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and then they didn't get the price they wanted and
- 4:15Speaker 2: pulled the team back and said, Okay, we're not selling
- 4:18Speaker 2: the team. Ardy Moreno did the same thing with the Angels.
- 4:22Speaker 2: He's gonna sell the team, and then he decided I'm
- 4:24Speaker 2: not going to sell the team, and then the poleads
- 4:26Speaker 2: say we're gonna sell the team, and now we're not
- 4:29Speaker 2: going to sell the team. It's possible that all of
- 4:32Speaker 2: these owners are recognizing they're not maybe they're not getting
- 4:36Speaker 2: exactly what they want. For the team and then they're
- 4:38Speaker 2: going to hang on until, say, the price goes up.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But maybe this isn't a shock, but it was a
- 4:44Speaker 2: surprise to me because it seemed pretty pretty understandable that
- 4:48Speaker 2: they're going to sell the team and now they're just
- 4:50Speaker 2: looking for investors instead.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Tim, we we just kind of talked about this, We
- 4:55Speaker 3: talked about this earlier, but Rob Manford came out a
- 4:58Speaker 3: couple months ago and said, Oh, it's definitely happen. It's
- 5:00Speaker 3: not if they win so and he's like, I know
- 5:03Speaker 3: more than anybody else did. So something changed behind the scenes,
- 5:06Speaker 3: because when Rob Manford usually says something like that, it
- 5:08Speaker 3: doesn't go off the rails like kind of this one
- 5:11Speaker 3: that it normally sticks to exactly what he's saying.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, something must have happened, just like something happened with
- 5:18Speaker 2: the Nationals and something happen with the Angels. And again,
- 5:22Speaker 2: these are really sharp businessmen who are used to winning,
- 5:27Speaker 2: Like every negotiation that they're in, they get the last
- 5:30Speaker 2: dollar on everything that they do in every business that
- 5:34Speaker 2: they run. But baseball doesn't often work that way. You
- 5:37Speaker 2: don't get exactly what you want in baseball. Sometimes you
- 5:40Speaker 2: have to overpay to get a player. Sometimes you have
- 5:43Speaker 2: to sell something for less than what you think it's worth.
- 5:46Speaker 2: But these guys are used to getting whatever they want,
- 5:49Speaker 2: and if they don't get it, they're pulling the team back.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know, maybe that's what's happening.
- 5:55Speaker 5: We have a little breaking news on Hello Fresh.
- 5:58Speaker 1: We've talked about him for a long time, but this
- 6:00Speaker 1: summer they have their biggest menu upgrade yet.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Ready for this, Todd Father, talk to me.
- 6:05Speaker 1: They have doubled their menu doubled Now you can choose
- 6:08Speaker 1: from one hundred options each week, including new seasonal dishes
- 6:12Speaker 1: and recipes from around the world. One hundred options per week.
- 6:17Speaker 6: That's incredible. But to start out, what they had before
- 6:20Speaker 6: was absolutely perfect. Now to add even more to your
- 6:24Speaker 6: go Guys like me, I got baseball in the morning,
- 6:26Speaker 6: I got baseball afternoon all day every day I need
- 6:29Speaker 6: something to get going. I need something to eat and
- 6:31Speaker 6: it's absolutely delicious.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Scott.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That's right, Todd Father. The best way to cook just

- 6:55Speaker 4: Do you feel like there should be some kind of
- 6:57Speaker 4: stipulation because of how much you love the game, how
- 7:00Speaker 4: much we love it as players want to see winners,
- 7:03Speaker 4: there should be some type of stipulation that owners have
- 7:06Speaker 4: to try to win because this is this is a sport,
- 7:10Speaker 4: this is a competitive like more of a penalty for
- 7:14Speaker 4: not winning. Not saying there's relegation, I'm not saying all
- 7:17Speaker 4: that kind of stuff, but do you feel like there
- 7:19Speaker 4: should be some type of penalty because when you look
- 7:21Speaker 4: at a team like the pole Ads, I mean an
- 7:24Speaker 4: organization like the pole Ads, they're not setting their players
- 7:26Speaker 4: up or their city up for having a successful team.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Well, I would like to see everyone try to win, Eric,
- 7:32Speaker 2: but it's hard to prove whether you're trying to win
- 7:36Speaker 2: or not. You know. Thirty years ago, Sandy Alderson, then
- 7:40Speaker 2: the general manager of the A's I guess at the time,
- 7:44Speaker 2: said what is a successful franchise? Is it a team
- 7:47Speaker 2: that makes the playoffs every year or is it a
- 7:50Speaker 2: team that never makes the playoffs but makes money every year.
- 7:54Speaker 2: What is the successful franchise a team that loses money
- 7:58Speaker 2: but wins, or a team that makes money and loses.
- 8:02Speaker 2: And I think that discussion still has to be had
- 8:05Speaker 2: today because I think that's still a relevant question.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah, invest and then the franchise value will sort We've
- 8:14Speaker 1: seen that happen. Don't forget fans. The Dodgers were a
- 8:17Speaker 1: prime example of that. The Dodgers were in a very
- 8:19Speaker 1: different place fifteen years ago when they were run by
- 8:22Speaker 1: Frank McCort, and look at them now. They are an
- 8:24Speaker 1: absolute powerhouse. Tim, I'm going to take us to the
- 8:28Speaker 1: Little League Classic that's coming up on Sunday on ESPN.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You've got two great teams too, that are in the
- 8:34Speaker 1: thick of a playoff race with the Mets and the Mariners.
- 8:36Speaker 1: But first, give us the goods on what we can
- 8:39Speaker 1: expect there, what the coverage will be like, how much
- 8:43Speaker 1: you look forward to this?
- 8:45Speaker 2: Well, I've covered every one of the Little League Classics
- 8:48Speaker 2: and they're all great. Trust me, fellas, if you haven't
- 8:51Speaker 2: been there for when the teams arrive, it's stunning, it's breathtaking.
- 8:56Speaker 2: As soon as they get off the bus, they are
- 8:58Speaker 2: just surrounded by kids, and before long, the players are
- 9:03Speaker 2: into it just as much as the kids are because
- 9:06Speaker 2: they've all watched the Little League World Series when they
- 9:09Speaker 2: were twelve years old. And the Little League World Series
- 9:12Speaker 2: is on in every clubhouse in the major leagues every
- 9:16Speaker 2: single day because it fascinates the big leaders, as it should.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And when these guys walk in, like Aaron I was
- 9:22Speaker 2: there last year. When Aaron Judge walked in, it was unbelievable.
- 9:26Speaker 2: He couldn't take a step without being just besieged by people,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and he did a great job handling it. And all
- 9:34Speaker 2: players do the best they can. A couple of years ago,
- 9:37Speaker 2: Bryce Harper was here and he's sitting in the stands
- 9:40Speaker 2: watching the Pennsylvania team, you know Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, and
- 9:45Speaker 2: one of these kids from Pennsylvania like hits a rocket
- 9:49Speaker 2: shot and Bryce Harper is there to see it. So
- 9:52Speaker 2: at the Little League Classic that night, at the real
- 9:57Speaker 2: major league ballpark, the kids are all there, like only
- 10:00Speaker 2: kids are invited to the Little League Classic, another reason
- 10:03Speaker 2: it worked so well. And Bryce Harper walks past the
- 10:07Speaker 2: front row and the kid that he saw had a
- 10:09Speaker 2: line drive. Bryce Harper goes up to him on his
- 10:12Speaker 2: way to home plate in a major league game and says, boy,
- 10:15Speaker 2: I hope I hit one as hard as you hit
- 10:17Speaker 2: one today. And it was like the greatest thing that
- 10:21Speaker 2: ever happened to that kid. And then Harper brought him
- 10:24Speaker 2: an autographed bat and gave it to him as he
- 10:27Speaker 2: sat in the stands and watched a major league game.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That's what the Little League Classic is about. To me.
- 10:34Speaker 2: It's about the kids watching the big leaguers. But it's
- 10:37Speaker 2: just as important that the big leaguers are engaging with
- 10:41Speaker 2: the kids. It is a wonderful, wonderful scene.
- 10:45Speaker 4: They show that often on TVs. There's something that you're
- 10:49Speaker 4: banging the drum about that needs to be shown. That
- 10:52Speaker 4: is your favorite part of this whole weekend, this whole
- 10:56Speaker 4: Little League Classic that we're not seeing on TV because
- 10:59Speaker 4: you get of background stuff. Is there something that we
- 11:02Speaker 4: that we that we should be looking out for or
- 11:05Speaker 4: that you're hoping that they show on TV.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Well, we weren't able to show this a few years ago,
- 11:11Speaker 2: but now we do see. I ride the bus now
- 11:13Speaker 2: every year in from the airport with the team with
- 11:18Speaker 2: the kids on the bus, and now the last year
- 11:21Speaker 2: was the Tigers and I were sitting on the bus
- 11:23Speaker 2: with a bunch of kids, and they were asking, of course,
- 11:26Speaker 2: the greatest questions in the world. Because kids are so uninhibited,
- 11:30Speaker 2: they just say whatever they want to say. It's great.
- 11:32Speaker 2: But what I wish we had a camera on was
- 11:35Speaker 2: the first year I went on a bus. We didn't
- 11:37Speaker 2: have the camera there. But Reese Hoskins of the Phillies,
- 11:41Speaker 2: who was a star player at the time, like told
- 11:44Speaker 2: a kid, let me see how good a dancer you are.
- 11:47Speaker 2: And this twelve year old starts dance while the bus
- 11:51Speaker 2: is driving, and then he gets into a dance contest
- 11:55Speaker 2: with Reese Hoskins on the bus. It was absolutely priced
- 12:00Speaker 2: to see a big leaguer and a twelve year old
- 12:03Speaker 2: having a dance contest on the bus. The twelve year
- 12:06Speaker 2: old one, as I recall, as most twelve year old
- 12:09Speaker 2: should against most adults because no adults are good dancers.
- 12:13Speaker 2: No male can dance in my opinion, but Reyese Hoskins
- 12:17Speaker 2: was pretty good. The twelve year old was better.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Tim If Rosenthal was on right now, I'd say it's
- 12:22Speaker 3: because you can. You love this event so much because
- 12:24Speaker 3: Ken could look him in the eye. But I'm not
- 12:26Speaker 3: going to make a short joke today. So I understand,
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'm gonna save that for when Ken comes on, because
- 12:32Speaker 3: I know you guys are You're much taller than Ken is,
- 12:35Speaker 3: So I'm going to let that one pass before we go.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I am the same height. I'm the same height as
- 12:42Speaker 2: Ken Rosenthal. And a few years ago, a very ambitious reporter,
- 12:46Speaker 2: I mean a researcher at ESPN looked this up that
- 12:49Speaker 2: fifty two percent of the kids at the Little League
- 12:52Speaker 2: World Series that year were taller than me. I think
- 12:55Speaker 2: that was unnecessary research. So one of the kids, one
- 12:59Speaker 2: of the years, I'll never forget this. This kid's name
- 13:02Speaker 2: was Terrence. He was from South Carolina. He was legit
- 13:06Speaker 2: five eleven, one hundred and eighty five pounds, and he
- 13:10Speaker 2: hit a ball three hundred and seventy five feet at
- 13:13Speaker 2: the Little League World Series. He hit it like one
- 13:15Speaker 2: hundred and fifty feet over the fence. It was unbelievable.
- 13:19Speaker 2: So I talked to him on live TV like after
- 13:23Speaker 2: the game, and jokingly I said to Terrence five eleven,
- 13:27Speaker 2: one eighty five, I said, when was the last time
- 13:30Speaker 2: you were my size? And he looked at me. He
- 13:33Speaker 2: thought about it for a second, and he goes, I
- 13:35Speaker 2: was in the second grade. That's what he said. So
- 13:38Speaker 2: there's no telling what the kids might say when you
- 13:41Speaker 2: ask them a question, because that's the best part about
- 13:44Speaker 2: this is the answers that they give. Would you ask
- 13:48Speaker 2: him a question? Some of those kids are really funny
- 13:50Speaker 2: and really clever.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I love it. I love it. I love it. So
- 13:54Speaker 3: that's great, all right. These two teams, the Mariners and
- 13:56Speaker 3: the Mets playing in this game. Mariners run fire a
- 13:59Speaker 3: great trade deadline. The Mets have been wishy washy to
- 14:02Speaker 3: be nice to what they've done since the trade deadline.
- 14:05Speaker 3: The Mariners, we keep thinking, have a great chance to
- 14:07Speaker 3: win the West. Can the Mets make up the ground
- 14:09Speaker 3: on the Phillies in the East and make a deep
- 14:11Speaker 3: playoff run the way they're assembled? And can the Mariners, Gosh,
- 14:15Speaker 3: I can't believe about to say this actually get to
- 14:17Speaker 3: the World Series and win it.
- 14:20Speaker 2: I think the Mariners are good enough to get to
- 14:23Speaker 2: the World Series and win it, because I'm just not sure,
- 14:26Speaker 2: even in a stout National League, that there's a team
- 14:29Speaker 2: out there that you look at and say, this team's
- 14:32Speaker 2: gonna win the World Series. You know, the Dodgers are
- 14:36Speaker 2: still the best team for me. Once they get everybody
- 14:38Speaker 2: healthy and playing the way they should be. But the
- 14:40Speaker 2: Padres are really good, the Phillies are really good. The
- 14:44Speaker 2: Brewers are the best team in baseball. The Cubs can
- 14:46Speaker 2: really hit. But the Mariners have something different now. They
- 14:50Speaker 2: have a really good starting rotation, which hasn't been great
- 14:53Speaker 2: this year, and it's eventually is gonna be at its
- 14:57Speaker 2: best before this year is over. The bullpen is load
- 15:00Speaker 2: with power arms, but most important, they're one through six
- 15:03Speaker 2: in the order. This might be the most formidable lineup
- 15:06Speaker 2: they've had that I've seen from the Mariners in maybe
- 15:09Speaker 2: twenty five years. So I think they have a chance
- 15:12Speaker 2: to go to the World Series for the first time.
- 15:14Speaker 2: And yes, I think they have a chance to win
- 15:17Speaker 2: it now. Again, you could say that about six, seven,
- 15:20Speaker 2: eight other teams right now, but to leave the Mariners
- 15:23Speaker 2: out of the equation would be a mistake. As for
- 15:26Speaker 2: the Mets, I don't see why they don't score more runs,
- 15:29Speaker 2: and maybe last night was the start of good offense
- 15:33Speaker 2: to come. I don't think they're going to run down
- 15:35Speaker 2: the rundown the Phillies because of the Phillies starting rotation,
- 15:38Speaker 2: but I think the Mets are going to make the playoffs,
- 15:41Speaker 2: and if you make the playoffs in today's day and age,
- 15:43Speaker 2: you have a chance to go a long way.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Are the Mets a team that will be disappointed to
- 15:51Speaker 4: be a wild card in the sense that they put
- 15:54Speaker 4: all this money into Juan Soto, But at the beginning
- 15:56Speaker 4: of the season they knew they're starting pitching, wasn't they
- 16:00Speaker 4: had Sham and ayah. They were hoping David Peterson was
- 16:03Speaker 4: awesome and he's been awesome from there. They didn't solidify
- 16:07Speaker 4: a pitching type of player that is equivalent to the
- 16:12Speaker 4: Juan Soto type of position player.
- 16:16Speaker 2: If they just make the playoffs, I don't think it's
- 16:19Speaker 2: going to be a big disappointment, because, you know, as
- 16:22Speaker 2: a wild card, because they played so poorly here, they
- 16:25Speaker 2: had the best record in baseball in the middle of June,
- 16:28Speaker 2: and two months later they're struggling to make the playoffs.
- 16:31Speaker 2: So I think if they're completely honest, they'll just say,
- 16:33Speaker 2: all right, get us in the playoffs. We'll take our
- 16:36Speaker 2: chances from there. Now, if you ask them, should we
- 16:39Speaker 2: have won this division, they'll probably say, well, yeah, but
- 16:42Speaker 2: we played poorly for two months. That has to end,
- 16:45Speaker 2: and I think it will. I think they're going to
- 16:47Speaker 2: score a bunch more runs. And I'm with you, Eric,
- 16:49Speaker 2: I don't see their starting pitching as being so good
- 16:52Speaker 2: that they're just going to overtake the Phillies and then
- 16:56Speaker 2: you know, run the table in October. But they're still
- 16:58Speaker 2: a dangerous team. Like I said, you get in the
- 17:01Speaker 2: playoffs in October. In baseball anymore, you have a chance.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Tim, how do you think the first season has gone
- 17:09Speaker 1: for Juan Soto. I we haven't talked about him as
- 17:11Speaker 1: much lately, but what would be your evaluation of year
- 17:14Speaker 1: one of the biggest contract of all time.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Well, he hasn't been the player I thought he would be.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I mean, he's been productive. He's hit a bunch of homers,
- 17:23Speaker 2: a lot of them with nobody on base. He is
- 17:26Speaker 2: way better than a two point fifty hitter or whatever
- 17:29Speaker 2: he's hitting right now. It's right around there, and I
- 17:32Speaker 2: think he's gonna get hot. I just think he's too
- 17:35Speaker 2: good of a hitter to struggle like this. And when
- 17:38Speaker 2: I say struggle, he should be hitting over three hundred.
- 17:41Speaker 2: He's that good of a hitter. I just think it's
- 17:44Speaker 2: been an adjustment. I think, like it was in San Diego,
- 17:48Speaker 2: was an adjustment there you know, when he walks in,
- 17:50Speaker 2: there are a bunch of other star players there. I
- 17:53Speaker 2: think it takes him and everyone else a little bit
- 17:55Speaker 2: time to figure out where everybody's going. Although it didn't
- 17:58Speaker 2: take much time with the Yankees. He was really good
- 18:01Speaker 2: right away and all season for them. Same thing hasn't
- 18:04Speaker 2: happened with the Mets. But again, there's six weeks to go,
- 18:08Speaker 2: and I fully expect him to get really hot and
- 18:11Speaker 2: carry them into the playoffs. I've been saying that all year.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I think it's gonna happen. It just really truly hasn't
- 18:17Speaker 2: happened yet.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Hey, Tim, I have the Yankees Cardinals this weekend on
- 18:22Speaker 3: Fox on Saturday. Yankees. What's going on in New York?
- 18:25Speaker 3: We keep saying, don't blame Marin Boon, it's just the
- 18:27Speaker 3: way the roster was assembled. But can this team be
- 18:30Speaker 3: dangerous if they get into the postseason? Because right now
- 18:32Speaker 3: they're teetering on the edge, also with the Guardians chasing
- 18:35Speaker 3: them down. Do you think the Yankees can be dangerous
- 18:38Speaker 3: if they get into the postseason?
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah? Again, Aj, everyone's dangerous in the postseason because no, no, no, no,
- 18:46Speaker 2: But they're no great teams out there. Do I think
- 18:48Speaker 2: the Yankees are going to make the playoffs, Yes, barely
- 18:51Speaker 2: I do. Would I make them the favorite when they
- 18:54Speaker 2: get to October, Absolutely not. But if you tell me
- 18:57Speaker 2: that the Tigers are just going to overwhelm people in October,
- 19:00Speaker 2: the answer is no. Neither the Mariners or the Astros,
- 19:04Speaker 2: or the Rangers or the Blue Jays or anybody else
- 19:07Speaker 2: with no dominant team. I think the Yankees could be
- 19:10Speaker 2: dangerous if Aaron Judge is at his best and John
- 19:14Speaker 2: Carlos Stanton swings the bat like he always does in
- 19:17Speaker 2: October seemingly, and Anthony Volpi has been hot lately. But
- 19:21Speaker 2: there's also just as good a chance that the Yankees
- 19:24Speaker 2: won't even make the playoffs, or they get there and
- 19:27Speaker 2: their bullpen lets him down, or they become the all
- 19:30Speaker 2: or nothing Yankees who don't seem to be able to
- 19:33Speaker 2: get a big hit when they need them and still
- 19:35Speaker 2: live and die with a homer and then make two
- 19:37Speaker 2: terrible base running mistakes in one weekend. So they are
- 19:41Speaker 2: a flawed team. There's no doubt. I'm just saying all
- 19:45Speaker 2: the teams in the American League are flawed. Giving the
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yankees a chance.
- 19:50Speaker 5: That's right.
- 19:51Speaker 1: The American League has not looked like he usually does
- 19:54Speaker 1: really the last couple of years now, at least in
- 19:56Speaker 1: my opinion. We'll see you know if that changes going forward.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Awesome to have you on. Thank you for double coverage

- 21:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 21:29Speaker 5: That's what he said.
- 21:32Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 21:33Speaker 1: That's what he said. All right, So we've got more
- 21:39Speaker 1: on this lawsuit with shohy Otani defending himself against the
- 21:44Speaker 1: real estate developer and the guy that was going to
- 21:47Speaker 1: do the sales, and they both got fired and they
- 21:49Speaker 1: said that Otani's camp intervened. They said it was really
- 21:52Speaker 1: coming from his representation. But your representation represents who does
- 21:56Speaker 1: representation represent?
- 21:57Speaker 4: Guys?
- 21:57Speaker 5: Easiest question I'll ever.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Ask a player. Yeah, you personally right.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So if they're doing it, they're speaking for you even
- 22:05Speaker 1: though it's not him. In BOD, I don't think anybody
- 22:07Speaker 1: expected Otani on phone calls being like, hey, if you
- 22:11Speaker 1: don't do what I say, I'm pulling out of this
- 22:13Speaker 1: real estate deal and getting you fired. But somebody is
- 22:16Speaker 1: doing that and representing you, and they're accusing this situation
- 22:19Speaker 1: of happening. So Sam Blum doing the good work for
- 22:23Speaker 1: the athletic. He spoke to Josh Schiller, head of sports
- 22:26Speaker 1: and gaming at a law firm that I can't pronounce,
- 22:29Speaker 1: but they represent the two guys that are going after
- 22:33Speaker 1: Otani and Nesblelo his representation they Shiller said they tried
- 22:38Speaker 1: to negotiate a resolution privately, so they tried to settle
- 22:41Speaker 1: and they were unable to resolve the matter. He also
- 22:45Speaker 1: said that Bilello became a destructive force by inserting himself
- 22:49Speaker 1: into every aspect of the relationship. These are all allegations.
- 22:53Speaker 1: He alleged that they responded to business matters with stonewalling
- 22:57Speaker 1: and hostility while threatening default if he didn't get his way,
- 23:00Speaker 1: so I guess not paying for the property as well.
- 23:03Speaker 1: They still caused you know, a lot of ruck is
- 23:06Speaker 1: here if they actually did get these two guys fired,
- 23:09Speaker 1: which is what they are accusing. The defendants of large
- 23:13Speaker 1: portions of the lawsuit are redacted. The plaintiffs filed a
- 23:15Speaker 1: subsequent request to lift the redactions from the initial plate.
- 23:19Speaker 1: That means that the law firm and the developer that
- 23:22Speaker 1: are suing Otani wanted things to be stated publicly, and
- 23:26Speaker 1: there's certain information that is at least at the moment,
- 23:29Speaker 1: being held back. So we'll see what happens.
- 23:31Speaker 5: There and later.
- 23:33Speaker 1: The lawyer for them also said that he doesn't think
- 23:36Speaker 1: they have a case for countersuing, and he doesn't think
- 23:39Speaker 1: they have a case for an NIL breach NIL as
- 23:42Speaker 1: in name, image likeness, where you know Otani originally signed
- 23:45Speaker 1: on where they could do certain things with him for
- 23:47Speaker 1: this real estate project as far as marketing it and saying, hey,
- 23:50Speaker 1: Otani lives here. But I guess Otani's camp thinks they
- 23:53Speaker 1: went too far, get ugly. And the thing that stood
- 23:56Speaker 1: out to me was that they were talking and they
- 23:58Speaker 1: were I guess working on at least according to the
- 24:01Speaker 1: plaintiff side, and they didn't figure it out, so it
- 24:03Speaker 1: starts to make things more public. I guess they could
- 24:05Speaker 1: have avoided all of this. Now the other side could
- 24:08Speaker 1: have been asked for a lot of money. They're fighting it,
- 24:10Speaker 1: but this this is messy. This is not clean. As
- 24:13Speaker 1: we learn more about what's going on here and aj
- 24:15Speaker 1: I know we talked about it yesterday, the comments.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Are literally the political spectrum.
- 24:19Speaker 1: You have one side that wants to accuse Aatwani of
- 24:22Speaker 1: everything for the last two years. Right, he's in on this,
- 24:25Speaker 1: He's in on that. I think that's crazy. You have
- 24:27Speaker 1: the other side that's like, how dare anybody even talk
- 24:30Speaker 1: about this topic, like you're unfairly targeting him. Well, maybe
- 24:33Speaker 1: somebody's unfairly targeting him, but we're just covering the story.
- 24:36Speaker 1: And then most people are in the middle, like this
- 24:38Speaker 1: is a pretty crappy situation to be involved in, and
- 24:40Speaker 1: things are gonna, you know, get very public and very ugly.
- 24:44Speaker 1: If there's a rich history here between the two parties,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and this real estate project's been going on for ten
- 24:49Speaker 1: plus years and Otani's been signed on since twenty twenty three,
- 24:52Speaker 1: so there's going to be some history between these two
- 24:55Speaker 1: of back and forth that would think you don't want public.
- 24:58Speaker 1: But if he truly believes that he's the right, he's
- 25:00Speaker 1: going to fight it. It's just that he's not going
- 25:02Speaker 1: to be able to maintain a lot of privacy during
- 25:04Speaker 1: that time period.
- 25:06Speaker 3: No, you're right, there's a lot of things that could
- 25:07Speaker 3: come out, and Otani's a very private person. But what
- 25:10Speaker 3: did he sign? What did Otani sign? What did Nesblelo
- 25:13Speaker 3: sign on his behalf?
- 25:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 25:15Speaker 3: What did What was the agreement they had? You said yesterday,
- 25:17Speaker 3: Scott that there was an uh that I believe you
- 25:20Speaker 3: said there was a video of Otani talking about this
- 25:23Speaker 3: place and how excited he wherever he was for it.
- 25:26Speaker 3: So I don't know. He can't say if there's that video,
- 25:30Speaker 3: then he can't say he didn't know anything about it,
- 25:33Speaker 3: because at some point nes Bolelo had to come to
- 25:35Speaker 3: him and say, hey, we need to make this video for.
- 25:37Speaker 5: This Oh yeah, he knows about it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And the rumors that there's some type of promotional voiceover
- 25:43Speaker 1: or something like that, right there, there was some type
- 25:45Speaker 1: of marketing agreement that was made. We'll find out more
- 25:48Speaker 1: of the details of what that agreement was. I don't
- 25:49Speaker 1: think any everything's been released yet. But yeah, let's not
- 25:52Speaker 1: act like someone is signing houses to his name.
- 25:57Speaker 3: No, I know, this whole thing is I'm just fast
- 26:00Speaker 3: by what's going to come out of this because I
- 26:01Speaker 3: don't know, Like I'm not a lawyer. I just play
- 26:04Speaker 3: one on you and crats get into a fight and
- 26:06Speaker 3: I'm like a divorce lawyer, so I have to play
- 26:07Speaker 3: that on the show. But other than that, I don't
- 26:10Speaker 3: know enough about this. But it's going to be fascinating
- 26:12Speaker 3: once all the details start coming out of this and
- 26:14Speaker 3: what they are trying to get out of Otani. What
- 26:16Speaker 3: Otani's trying to you know, say he did what nez
- 26:19Speaker 3: Bilolo says he did? What Now the company, of course,
- 26:22Speaker 3: the company that came out said oh, no, everything's fine,
- 26:25Speaker 3: this is a great yeah, because they have how much
- 26:27Speaker 3: money invests two hundred and fifty million, seventeen million dollar homes.
- 26:31Speaker 3: This isn't like it's a you know, it's it's it's
- 26:34Speaker 3: mobile homes and places that are very affordable for the
- 26:37Speaker 3: normal person. This is a place that is you know,
- 26:41Speaker 3: exclusive as it gets right. So of course the group
- 26:44Speaker 3: that is going to come out and say, oh, everything's perfect,
- 26:47Speaker 3: nothing to see here, nothing to see here, just keep
- 26:50Speaker 3: on building, right, So of course they're going to say that.
- 26:52Speaker 3: So what happens next is going to be fascinating.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yeah, And there's going to be a lot more investigative
- 26:57Speaker 1: work by good journalists like Sam Blum to keep figuring
- 26:59Speaker 1: things out and krats. The general public's going to be
- 27:04Speaker 1: interested in this. This is one of the most famous
- 27:07Speaker 1: human beings on the planet.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Yes, and when you're under a microscope. And I think
- 27:16Speaker 4: part of this not saying it would go away, but
- 27:20Speaker 4: Showhayed very rarely makes himself available to answer any questions.
- 27:26Speaker 4: AJ has said this countless times. AJ has been an
- 27:28Speaker 4: all star. He was a borderline superstar. My word really
- 27:34Speaker 4: doesn't matter, Like I can come out and say something
- 27:36Speaker 4: people don't really care. But when you're a star, people
- 27:38Speaker 4: want to hear what you have to say. If he
- 27:40Speaker 4: would speak more, I think there'd be less people on
- 27:44Speaker 4: the side of Oh, he was definitely involved with the
- 27:47Speaker 4: epay stuff. He's definitely involved with this. He is this
- 27:50Speaker 4: bad guy. The only reason people are saying that is
- 27:53Speaker 4: because they don't know anything. And everybody on the other
- 27:56Speaker 4: side is like, no, he's perfect. Why is he perfect?
- 27:59Speaker 4: Have you ever heard him say he's perfect? Have you
- 28:02Speaker 4: ever seen him put himself out there in a situation? No, Like,
- 28:07Speaker 4: there's there's a he has a shroud of secrecy that
- 28:11Speaker 4: I think situations like this may be able to be
- 28:14Speaker 4: diffused in the public eye if he were able to,
- 28:18Speaker 4: if he would come out and just.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Just chatter, just talk with the boys.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll probably get a statement or something. Obviously, it's
- 28:26Speaker 1: a lawsuit, so right now you're not gonna get much.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And you know you can be strategic with when you
- 28:32Speaker 1: put the lawsuit out. You know, it happens to come
- 28:35Speaker 1: out when the Angels are playing the Dodgers. We're in
- 28:37Speaker 1: the thick of the baseball season, you know. I mean
- 28:40Speaker 1: usually have a time period where if you feel like
- 28:42Speaker 1: there's what I'm doing, you can sue. So that's the
- 28:45Speaker 1: right of the plaintiff, and then you can defend yourself
- 28:49Speaker 1: in counter suit. So to be continued. We learned a
- 28:51Speaker 1: little bit more from Sam Blom getting some quotes.
- 28:54Speaker 5: And I'm sure people are gonna start digging they settle.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, like you said, though, people are gonna start
- 28:59Speaker 3: digging are pretty quick, pretty deep into this guy. Because
- 29:02Speaker 3: there's a lot of money involved in this.
- 29:05Speaker 5: There's a lot redacted. That was the other thing about.
- 29:08Speaker 1: So if there's a lot redacted, that means most likely
- 29:12Speaker 1: it's eventually going to come out again unless there is
- 29:14Speaker 1: a settlement. And sometimes this stuff like starts to eat
- 29:17Speaker 1: its way to publicity, and then it gets pulled back
- 29:19Speaker 1: where the other side's like, hey, I don't want to
- 29:20Speaker 1: deal with this, let's settle. That often is the case
- 29:24Speaker 1: in lawsuits. But if not, it is going to be
- 29:27Speaker 1: a to be continued situation. We'll keep covering it.
- 29:29Speaker 5: So anyway, that's step two, day two of the saga.
