Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Who Doesn't Love Some Good Ol' Fashion Race Manipulation?! | Charlie Marlow Show

- 0:00All right, we are live. What's up, everybody?
- 0:01Charlie Marlowe here talking about the Charlotte Roval.
- 0:05I love this race. I want to hear from all you
- 0:08guys. And I was surprised.
- 0:11I just looked at the Jeff Glock poll and only 57% of folks liked
- 0:18the Charlotte Roval, over 10,000 votes.
- 0:21I was surprised by that. And we're going to get into
- 0:24everything. Playoffs, playoffs, race
- 0:28manipulation. I'll tell you what, I myself, I
- 0:32like a little good old fashioned race manipulation that we saw
- 0:37there at the end. I thought it was very, very
- 0:39compelling TV. All right, let's start like
- 0:42this. First of all, I was checking in
- 0:46with the race here and there at the beginning, throughout the
- 0:49stages. I think most people thought knew
- 0:54the way it was going to go down, did go down.
- 0:57SVG, of course, if he doesn't have a major blow up, he's not
- 1:01just winning these Rd. courses, he's running away with these Rd.
- 1:05course races. Five in a row now.
- 1:09But that wasn't really the story.
- 1:11Maybe it should be SVG wins by what, 15 seconds?
- 1:16And here's where I like the playoffs and I want to hear from
- 1:18you guys. I know a lot of you don't like
- 1:20the playoff system, you don't like the format.
- 1:22You want to go back to a 36 race points championship?
- 1:27I get all that. I'm not totally against that.
- 1:29I wouldn't mind seeing it now. I don't like the one race finale
- 1:33either, but I love the playoffs for what we saw yesterday.
- 1:39I thought that was must watch TV at the end, the last 10 laps or
- 1:44so. That's why the playoff format
- 1:47was instituted. Cut off races are usually
- 1:51really, really compelling. That's one reason if you go back
- 1:563-4 weeks, I didn't love that Bristol race and I I talked
- 2:00about it on the live stream here.
- 2:03It wasn't just all the yellows at Bristol.
- 2:05That was a cut off race and there was no cut line drama.
- 2:09I think a lot of fans who are more casual fans really TuneIn
- 2:15to the cut off races knowing you're going to see some
- 2:18hijinks. That's what I put there on the
- 2:20on the thumbnail, playoff hijinks.
- 2:23And that's what we got. Look, when you're watching the
- 2:27last 10 laps, last 8 laps, last 7 laps, 5 laps, whatever it is,
- 2:32and you're seeing there the plus minus and you're seeing Ross
- 2:36Chastain and Joey Logano and how many spots that Logano had to
- 2:42make up. I thought the broadcasting crew,
- 2:45Lee Diffie and all them did a really good job of explaining,
- 2:49hey, how many more people can Ross Chastain pass or get passed
- 2:54by? How many more cars do you think
- 2:57can Joey Logano pass? You had all the manufacturer
- 3:02hijinks going on. That was one of the big stories.
- 3:05Afterwards. You probably seen the video
- 3:07where Denny Hamlin's talking to somebody saying like, I didn't
- 3:10know. I didn't know what Joey Logano
- 3:12needed. I wouldn't have passed him.
- 3:14It was Noah Lewis who put that clip out there.
- 3:18So Denny Hamlin clearly didn't know what what Joey Logano
- 3:22needed. And so he essentially insinuated
- 3:26and we put the clip on our YouTube here from Matt Weaver.
- 3:29Matt Weaver does a great job covering all these races where
- 3:33Denny Hamlin said, if I'd have known, I would have done what's
- 3:37best for me. So think about that.
- 3:39He's he's saying, look, even though Ross Chastain and track
- 3:42house had more speed this year, you know that Joey Logano is
- 3:48more dangerous. We all know that.
- 3:50There's a reason Joey Logano has won two championships in the
- 3:54next genera. Penske has won all three
- 3:57championships in the next genera.
- 3:59They have the set up on lock already at Phoenix and everybody
- 4:04knows Joey Logano is more dangerous than Ross Chastain.
- 4:07All due respect. When you get into the final
- 4:10eight and potentially a final four, I thought that was
- 4:12hilarious that Denny Hamlin essentially said, I can't wait
- 4:16to hear on his podcast. Also actions detrimental because
- 4:19it was clear if you read lips, he said I wouldn't have passed
- 4:23them. But there was a lot of that
- 4:25going on. At one point yesterday, last lap
- 4:29or two, I don't know if you guys saw this, but if you remember at
- 4:33one point Alex Bowman gets right to the bumper of Ross Chastain
- 4:38and it looked like he could have tried to pass Ross Chastain.
- 4:41Obviously both Chevy's, Alex Bowman is out of it.
- 4:46You have the the engine sharing program with track house and
- 4:51Hendrick and Chevy's and all that.
- 4:52It looked to me like Alex Bowman really didn't try to pass Ross
- 4:57Chastain there. And then of course, final turn,
- 5:02Ross Chastain does what Ross Chastain's going to do.
- 5:05He does anything he possibly can to try to get by.
- 5:09He had to. And you know, I, I give Denny
- 5:11Hamlin a lot of respect too, because Denny Hamlin said in his
- 5:15interviews afterwards that he doesn't fault Ross Chastain at
- 5:18all. He, he knew that at that point,
- 5:21Ross Chastain is going to do everything in his power for his
- 5:25team, for his manufacturer to try to get in the round of 8.
- 5:28So he just drove right through Denny Hamlin.
- 5:32They both spin the iconic picture.
- 5:36That's why I love the playoffs. That moment, these moments would
- 5:40not have happened at all. And I know you have arguments on
- 5:43the other side. People might call it gimmicky
- 5:46and all that. First of all, any playoff format
- 5:49in any sport, it is manufactured moments.
- 5:54You are manufacturing drama, but people like drama.
- 5:58And the other argument that there's a lack of superstars in
- 6:03NASCAR, which I agree with. Now, to me, there's a big
- 6:06difference between the tier of superstars.
- 6:09You can make the argument that NASCAR has no superstars right
- 6:12now. And when I say a superstar, I'm
- 6:16talking about somebody who transcends racing.
- 6:19And we always use the old adage of could that person be on
- 6:22Saturday Night Live hosting Saturday Night Live?
- 6:25And I know there's not many guys that could do that, but if
- 6:27you're talking about Dale Earnhardt, senior, junior in
- 6:32terms of Q rating, Jeff Gordon, I think you can make the
- 6:36argument that there's not one superstar in all of NASCAR.
- 6:40Kyle Busch not winning anymore. I mean, Denny Hamlin, big
- 6:44personality, Kyle Larson, I don't think any of these guys
- 6:49are superstars, but there's a lot of stars.
- 6:52And that's where to me, the playoffs created the focus on
- 6:56instead of SVG, who give him all the credit in the world, best
- 7:00Rd. course racer in a couple generations in NASCAR by far.
- 7:04You got to go back to to Dan Gurney in terms of how many
- 7:08races he's winning versus how many races that he's started.
- 7:13But look, Ross Chastain is a star.
- 7:16Joey Logano, whether you like him or not, is a star.
- 7:20Danny Hamlin is a star and you had tons of drama at the end
- 7:23there between some some of the biggest names in NASCAR trying
- 7:28to get into the round of eight. And like I said, Chastain Logano
- 7:32and Denny Hamlin right there in the mix.
- 7:35I just thought it was really, really good theater.
- 7:38And again, I'm watching there on USA and there's been a lot of
- 7:42different angles of this, but the slow motion angle they
- 7:46played at the end right after the the checkered flag that
- 7:50showed Ross Chastain going backwards.
- 7:54I mean, this is straight out of Ricky Bobby almost Ross Chastain
- 7:58going backwards right after Joey Logano goes past the checkered
- 8:02flag forward. And and look, Joey Logano didn't
- 8:07have to finish ahead of Ross Chastain to get to the round of
- 8:11eight. It was it was down to spots, but
- 8:13still he did. I was just looking at the the
- 8:15running order. It is kind of funny because so
- 8:18much focus is on the guys that finished 21st and and 20th.
- 8:23Logano finished 20th in that race, Chastain 21st.
- 8:28And so I, I think I'll, I'll look at the standings, but I
- 8:31think it was just just Stenhouse.
- 8:34Stenhouse finishing ahead of Chastain was the was the deal
- 8:38breaker there. Either way, Joey Logano had the
- 8:40tiebreaker. So Joey Logano's in.
- 8:42We all know Joey Logano's dangerous, but I'm going to hear
- 8:46from you guys as well. But I don't know, I just
- 8:49watching that race. I probably don't even I'm just
- 8:53being honest because I love NASCAR and I watch almost every
- 8:57race. Now if if I wasn't in the
- 8:59business of NASCAR in terms of making content with Kenny, I
- 9:03don't know if I would have tuned into that race.
- 9:05Honestly. I always follow it on on X.
- 9:08I'll check in. If that's not the playoffs
- 9:11though, and you see that SVG is trending towards a 15 to 18
- 9:16second win, are you really tuning into that?
- 9:19Unless you know there's going to be some cut line drama, which
- 9:22there was, which totally delivered.
- 9:24And again, I was critical. Bristle didn't have any cut line
- 9:29drama whatsoever in the round of 16.
- 9:32Getting to the round of 12, we had fantastic cut line drama,
- 9:36even though it was only between two guys.
- 9:38It was only one spot, but that was enough.
- 9:41That was enough to compel me at least to be glued to my
- 9:44television for the last 10 laps of that race.
- 9:48So look, the whole argument about play offs versus full
- 9:56season points, I still don't think they're going to go to
- 9:59full season points. I wouldn't be against that.
- 10:01I think it'd be kind of interesting to try.
- 10:03Hell, everything's up in the air for 2026 anyway.
- 10:06If you're ever going to go back to a full season points, you
- 10:09might as well just try it. Just if NASCAR even said, look,
- 10:11we're going to try it for 2026, see what happens, I don't think
- 10:15anybody would be mad about it. See, see what the ratings are
- 10:18like. By the way, I'm interested to
- 10:20see again what the ratings are like for the Rovo, because
- 10:25NASCAR has been losing about what, about 20% of its playoff
- 10:29audience from this year to last year?
- 10:33And there's a lot of reasons for that.
- 10:34I know people are bringing up the NFL, but that was against
- 10:37the NFL last year. Now, if you want to make the
- 10:39argument that the NFL is growing while other sports are
- 10:43shrinking, and also the fact that NASCAR has lost a lot of
- 10:47their network races, they have so many races now that are on
- 10:51USA. So is that responsible for a
- 10:54fraction of the viewership loss? I will give you that.
- 10:59I know a lot of people don't like the playoff format.
- 11:02I still think it's more about the car.
- 11:04It's more about the car than the playoff format.
- 11:06And we've done tons of polls on that.
- 11:08And all the polls show that you guys, not just me, not just my
- 11:12opinion, but you guys are much more frustrated.
- 11:15Even if you're frustrated with the playoffs, you're much more
- 11:17frustrated with the Next Gen. car then you are the playoffs.
- 11:21But I'm going to get to your your questions and comments as
- 11:25well. So it'll be interesting to see
- 11:27what those ratings are like because again, the Jeff Glock
- 11:30poll, only 57% of you guys like that race, which is pretty low.
- 11:36And that's surprising to me. I wonder also if if part of
- 11:40those results are the fact that you guys are over the row Volt.
- 11:45And I get that too. I thought it was cool at the
- 11:48end, don't get me wrong, as I've been critical of the Next Gen.
- 11:52car since I mean, the first year that we started doing this with
- 11:55Kenny was the first year of the next Gen. car.
- 11:58And it's it's painfully obvious, especially the last couple years
- 12:02that this car is built for intermediates.
- 12:05It runs so good at Kansas, at Charlotte on the Oval.
- 12:10We're not calling Michigan an intermediate, but it was so good
- 12:14at Michigan. Darlington puts on a great show.
- 12:18And so I think a lot of people are saying we're kind of over
- 12:21the Roble deal over the Roble. It's hard to say that over the
- 12:25Roble say that five times fast. We want to go back to a second
- 12:29Oval race at Charlotte. I totally get that argument.
- 12:32I actually agree with you folks if you're thinking that way.
- 12:36But still you have to play the the hand you're dealt.
- 12:39And at this point we got the Roble.
- 12:42And so we knew they were racing at the Roble and I thought it
- 12:46was unbelievable. But, but also, I understand if,
- 12:50if you're saying I don't like the playoff format and it was
- 12:54only a great finish. Look, I, I'm, I'm not lying to
- 12:58you folks, I checked in. I'm seeing SVG run away with it
- 13:01this and that. But I, as I'm checking my phone
- 13:04and making sure I'm following the progress of the race, I, I
- 13:08had to sit down for that last 10 laps and it did not disappoint.
- 13:11And I'm really, really glad it did.
- 13:12And again, that's why I like the playoff format.
- 13:15I don't think it should be a A1 race finale, but I like the
- 13:19playoffs and I think in 2025, you have to have some semblance.
- 13:23In my opinion, you have to have some semblance of a playoff
- 13:26format to try to get these. ADDADHDI say that with love
- 13:32younger generation of folks who are just looking for any reason
- 13:36to click off the TV. So that's my take there.
- 13:41I feel like I hit everything that I wanted to get to.
- 13:45And then here's another thing. What do you guys think of the
- 13:48concept of race manipulation? I have to say, I, I, I kind of
- 13:53like it. To one person, it's race
- 13:56manipulation. To somebody else, it's
- 13:58gamesmanship, right? It can't be blatant.
- 14:01We saw that last year with the Christopher Bell and William
- 14:06Byron deal at Martinsville. That's another thing where look,
- 14:12if we have a three or four race finale for the play offs moving
- 14:15forward, there is going to be a lot of manufacturer
- 14:20manipulation, gamesmanship, whatever you want to call it
- 14:23going on. Even even Logano, what Logano
- 14:26yesterday said something about Gillan passing him.
- 14:30Every spot matters. And if you're not in the play
- 14:33offs and you're a Chevy and a Chevy needs to get in or you're
- 14:38a Ford and a Ford needs to get in Toyota, whatever it is, you
- 14:43know, that's going to happen. It's almost like how can they do
- 14:47it in a way that it doesn't look blatantly obvious?
- 14:51And that's where Paul Wolf said this.
- 14:53Another great video on the channel here courtesy of Matt
- 14:57Weaver. He's like Paul Wolf basically
- 15:00said, you know, I get it. I get it if if you're kind of
- 15:03right there with the guy and you don't want to just balls to the
- 15:07wall do anything to pass him and maybe wreck him, wreck yourself,
- 15:13I get that he goes. But if you're, if you're one or
- 15:15two seconds faster and you're not passing the guy, if you're
- 15:20essentially just pulling over on the side of the road, that is
- 15:23race manipulation and you're not really racing at that point
- 15:27anymore. But I think that adds to it.
- 15:30I really do. We've always had that.
- 15:33We've always had team play at superspeedways.
- 15:35Again, it can't be super blatant.
- 15:38We've seen that in past years with Penske.
- 15:40We've seen Logano the year that Blaney won the championship,
- 15:45right? Logano blocking for Blaney.
- 15:48I, I think that's kind of all part of the fun of racing, to be
- 15:51honest with you. And I understand if some of you
- 15:53don't like it. I just think it adds a lot of it
- 15:57adds a lot of drama to the situation.
- 16:00So 16 minutes in here, 111 of you watching live.
- 16:04I appreciate that. Let me check YouTube real quick
- 16:07and I'm going to get to your comments.
- 16:09I'm going to get to your questions.
- 16:11I love the robo. I thought it was really, really
- 16:14fun. By the way, I did not do a live
- 16:16stream last week. Kansas is my favorite track
- 16:20also, but I was on the road. I was watching the Cleveland
- 16:22Guardians play baseball and so again, I'm following the race on
- 16:26my phone and all that, but I didn't really watch Kansas.
- 16:28I was out of town, I was travelling, so I didn't want to
- 16:31get on and do a live stream and pretend like I really watched
- 16:34the race when I didn't. So I took the week off and we're
- 16:37back and I'm glad because the Roval was fantastic in my
- 16:43opinion. All right, 481 of you watching
- 16:45so far in the last 17 minutes or so.
- 16:49Appreciate that 107 of you watching live.
- 16:51All right, let's get to some of your comments.
- 16:53All right, King Solomon Racing Network.
- 16:55Hello, Hello, Solomon. Our guy Nick from London always
- 17:00checking in. He says please interview Jeff
- 17:02Hammond. I don't know if you saw Kenny
- 17:03did interview Jeff Hammond yesterday.
- 17:06Kenny was at the Roval for Trackside Live and really good
- 17:11little 3-4 minute clip. Jeff Hammond talking about the
- 17:15fact that in 1985 he was the crew chief for for Darrell
- 17:20Waltrip going against Bill Elliott, where Bill Elliott wins
- 17:2411 races, doesn't win the championship.
- 17:26Darrell Waltrip three wins, but much more consistent, which
- 17:29again is playing into this whole narrative, which is I think a
- 17:32really important discussion in the NASCAR ecosystem right now,
- 17:38which is the playoffs, right? Wins versus consistency and all
- 17:43that. So this is going back 40 years.
- 17:46Really good. By the way, Jeff Hammond doesn't
- 17:48age. I think he's 6869 years old.
- 17:50The fact that that was 40 years ago and he was a crew chief at
- 17:55whatever age, that was 2829 for him.
- 17:58Impressive. Nick says, I love the play offs.
- 18:01Me too. Let's see.
- 18:04Jesse says blah blah blah blah blah blah and he's telling me to
- 18:09shut the F up. So guess what, Jesse?
- 18:11Guess what, Jesse, I'm going to put you in a timeout.
- 18:16How do you like that? I just put you in a timeout.
- 18:19I can do that here on stream yard and YouTube.
- 18:21If you say shut the F up, OK, I'm not going to, I'm not going
- 18:25to take that. Let's see.
- 18:27TJ says Denny effed up. I put your comment up.
- 18:31I just don't want to put the F word up just in case.
- 18:33And I like swearing. No, me wrong.
- 18:35We're trying to make money here, so I'm not going to put the
- 18:37swear word up just because I want to monetize this live
- 18:40stream, OK? I'm just being honest with you
- 18:42guys. Let's go, Charlie.
- 18:44Thank you. Jeffy, please help Randy Travis
- 18:48get better soon. Is that the the singer?
- 18:53Let's see, TJ said. Would you rather race against
- 18:57Ross or Joey in the next round? Dumbass.
- 18:59Are you calling me a dumbass or you calling Denny Hamlin a
- 19:02dumbass? Look, Denny Hamlin said he
- 19:05didn't know. I believe him.
- 19:06He said his his spotter, his crew chief, they weren't telling
- 19:10him the details clearly. I mean, he said in that video by
- 19:14Noah Lewis. You can check it out on Twitter.
- 19:16He's like, I wouldn't have passed him.
- 19:17So I, I, I can't wait to hear what Denny says, how he explains
- 19:21that on actions detrimental. Let's see fish head Viking love
- 19:26that name. I love it.
- 19:27I love racing and it's grown on me.
- 19:29I just can't constantly bitch about everything anymore.
- 19:31It's exhausting. I I get that.
- 19:34I also, I know people call it bitching and whining, but to me
- 19:36it's also it's just discussing the sport and I think whether
- 19:42you're for it or against all these different things like
- 19:44NASCAR is at an inflection point right now.
- 19:47They they really are. There's so many things hanging
- 19:49in the balance with the sport. Really kind of what it means to
- 19:53be NASCAR, the lawsuit, the playoff format, the Next Gen.
- 19:57car, trying to attract old fans, the the classic fans again,
- 20:02trying to reach younger fans. These are kind of existential
- 20:06questions that NASCAR is all facing at the same time.
- 20:10And all these questions are going to be hanging the balance
- 20:12this offseason. It's going to be the most
- 20:13fascinating winter in in probably NASCAR history.
- 20:18Let's see, Fish head, Viking says.
- 20:20Me and my son were there yesterday as Logano fans and we
- 20:23were pumped. Let's see, we got here we go
- 20:30dink 90. I wish they would do a random
- 20:32draw and fans can pay an extra dollar to enter when they buy
- 20:35tickets and they pick one lucky fan to wave the green flag.
- 20:38That would be so awesome. That's a pretty good idea.
- 20:40I like that. Or maybe at least like the you
- 20:44could kind of start out. Green flag waving is pretty
- 20:46important. Maybe you could do some flag in
- 20:50there, like at a stage caution, something like that.
- 20:54Poor, poor Denny. Yep, TJ says Denny always chokes
- 20:59in the play offs. Look, I want Denny to win.
- 21:03I've said that I've been very consistent.
- 21:05I'm a Denny Hamlin fan. I think he's good for business.
- 21:08I think he's the most interesting person in NASCAR,
- 21:11not just on track. He says interesting things.
- 21:15The fact that you have a podcast from a current driver who is as
- 21:20forthright as Denny Hamlin is and he's always in the mix.
- 21:24He's always in the middle of everything.
- 21:26And then the next day or two days later, whenever it is, he
- 21:29comes on his podcast and explains everything to you
- 21:33folks. All these really interesting,
- 21:36super dramatic moments. Look, I, I think you're going to
- 21:39miss that in a couple years. If, if Denny Hamlin retires in
- 21:42two years, three years, whatever it is.
- 21:45If you're a fan of media and podcast, I think you're going to
- 21:47miss the fact that you had a big name driver who is so honest in
- 21:51a podcast like Denny Hamlin. And that's whether you like him
- 21:54or not. And I've had a lot of people
- 21:56I've seen comments that say, you know what?
- 21:57I'm still not a Denny Hamlin fan necessarily.
- 21:59I don't root from on the track, but I love his podcast because
- 22:02it's so interesting. Nick says Jeff Hammond deserves
- 22:07an excellent interview, a long form interview.
- 22:09I agree with that. NASCAR needs the play offs.
- 22:11TJ disagrees. Nick is always trying to bring
- 22:14NASCAR to Dallas, but you have you have Texas is only, what, an
- 22:17hour away? Let's see Fish head Viking.
- 22:21When Hamlin doesn't win the play offs they say he chokes in the
- 22:25play offs and can't get it done. When Logano comes in clutch and
- 22:27wins the cup play offs and they say he's cheating and it's not
- 22:30fair. I don't think anybody ever says
- 22:33he's cheating. The argument that I don't even
- 22:38think the argument is it's not fair, it's fair.
- 22:41Everybody plays by the same rules.
- 22:43I think the argument is, is it the best way to crown a
- 22:46champion, which I even agree it's not.
- 22:49I think you at least have to have three or four races at the
- 22:52end, not just one, but also you got to give Joey Logano.
- 22:56Not just Logano by the way, how about Paul Wolf?
- 22:59Is Paul Wolf arguably the best crew chief in the game?
- 23:02How many times does Paul Wolf either win a race or help Joey
- 23:07like yesterday advance in the play offs when they don't
- 23:11actually have the speed to do it or they they shouldn't have the
- 23:14speed to do it. Ross Chastain was faster than
- 23:18Joey Logano yesterday. Now you can also make the
- 23:20argument and and Ross Chastain admitted this.
- 23:23Ross Chastain had a ton of unforced errors.
- 23:27What pit Rd. speeding He went he went past the the line there on
- 23:33the turn 33 critical errors from Ross Chastain.
- 23:39So. So really, Ross Chastain is the
- 23:42one that put Joey Logano and Paul Wolf in the situation to
- 23:45steal that race at the end. If if Ross Chastain only has one
- 23:51mistake, 2 mistakes probably he's in the round of eight and
- 23:55Joey Logano isn't. But give Paul Wolf credit on the
- 23:59call. And again, that guy, it seems
- 24:01like he is a real advantage there on the pit box.
- 24:06He's a guy that adds value 100% to his driver so give him all
- 24:11the credit in the world. Let's see.
- 24:14Modern safety in a Gen. 4 would be awesome.
- 24:17Nick wants new management for NASCAR.
- 24:21TJ saying 4 different types of race tracks and 36 races just
- 24:25divided evenly. You want.
- 24:27But you want that many Rd. courses If you're talking about
- 24:30superspeedways, intermediates, Rd. courses, and short tracks, I
- 24:36get that. But you're not You're not.
- 24:38Nobody wants right? Nobody wants 9 road courses.
- 24:41I would even subtract a road course right now.
- 24:44And until you figure out the racing in the next Gen. car on a
- 24:48temporary basis, I would shift back to more intermediates.
- 24:50I'd hey look, I'm biased. I grew up going to Michigan
- 24:54International Speedway. I covered Michigan International
- 24:56Speedway for two years in O6O7. I'd give the second race to
- 25:00Michigan back right now the way it is right now with the Next
- 25:03Gen. car. Michigan was awesome.
- 25:06And if we're going to all kind of admit that T VS more
- 25:08important than than fans of the track, I'd give Michigan another
- 25:12race until you figure out until you figure out the race ability
- 25:16of the next Gen. car. That's what I would do.
- 25:19Let's see, Denver Thurston says SVG is going to force cup field
- 25:24drivers to right brake on road course.
- 25:27SVG is showing old school braking is way better than left
- 25:30foot braking on the road course. Yes, that heel toe, the fact
- 25:34that he has he has the precision of braking and cornering down to
- 25:38an absolute science and he's so much better at any than any
- 25:43other cup driver. It's crazy.
- 25:46Joshua Roberts says, Charlie, what's up, Josh?
- 25:50Let's see, we got we got Sammy, Sammy 5927 weighing in.
- 25:57It's the box they are in. Drivers are forced to manipulate
- 26:00the playoff races. That's true.
- 26:03That's true. Jesse was banned.
- 26:07Jesse, I just gave you a time out.
- 26:08You can come back if you're playing nice, buddy, whenever
- 26:10your time out is over. How about that?
- 26:16How about the power I wheeled with my little mute button?
- 26:19But I'm only muting him because he was AD head, OK, Alexander
- 26:25Stegall says. Personally, as a Hendrick fan, I
- 26:29watch the playoffs not fearing Kyle William or Chase loses the
- 26:32cup, but I find myself hate watching for the Penske cars to
- 26:34get eliminated ASAP. Pro full season points.
- 26:37I get that. How about also the fact that we
- 26:42always talk about parody? How about parody Schmerity?
- 26:46Look who's in the round of eight.
- 26:47And I understand Track House almost got in there with Ross
- 26:50Chastain. It's the big boys.
- 26:52It's the big boys. The biggest of the big boys.
- 26:54Hendrick gets three cars in. The second biggest of the big
- 26:58boys, I think it's fair to say, is JGR, even though Penske's won
- 27:02more championships lately. JGR gets three cars in and then
- 27:06Penske. Penske gets two cars in.
- 27:10You got to think at this point it would be an upset if there's
- 27:14not at least one Hendrick car, at least one JGR car and one
- 27:19Penske car in the in the round of four.
- 27:22So probably one of those manufacturers or one of those
- 27:25teams is going to get 2. I mean, they have to get 2, one
- 27:29of them has to get 2. My point is, you know at least
- 27:32one Penske car is going to be slipping through to the Final
- 27:35Four and they got to be the favorite.
- 27:38I don't care if it's Logano, I don't care if it's Blaney.
- 27:40They got to be the favorite until you beat them at Phoenix
- 27:45Christian Budd. Somehow we are told that the old
- 27:47drivers were the greatest that ever drove but simultaneously
- 27:51didn't race hard because they just rode around collecting
- 27:54points. Let's see.
- 27:57Steve Blake. I can't stand Kyle Busch, but I
- 28:00wish he would win a race. I like Kyle Busch also.
- 28:04I think he's good for business. That's another thing that stinks
- 28:06about Kyle Busch. Kyle Busch not winning means
- 28:10you're not hearing from him as much.
- 28:12You're not seeing him in the in the Media Center as much lately,
- 28:16which by the way, he's getting funnier.
- 28:18He's getting funnier and funnier as he gets older.
- 28:21You see the the videos he does with his wife where nothing's
- 28:25off the table. They're talking about his sex
- 28:27life and all that. And I mean pretty funny stuff.
- 28:30I remember the the first year we did this was 22 and that's where
- 28:34Kyle Busch, not only was he winning races his first year
- 28:38with Richard Childress, but also, OK, so I have the timeline
- 28:43wrong. So 2022 was the year, his final
- 28:48year with Joe Gibbs where he was in the Media Center, if you
- 28:51remember almost every week because the the whole story of
- 28:55that of that season was where is Kyle Busch gonna end up?
- 29:00And so every week of the Media Center, there was a new
- 29:03storyline of where Kyle Busch could end up.
- 29:05And then the following year is when Kyle Busch ends up at at
- 29:12Richard Childress. So I may have the exact, I may
- 29:15have the exact timing incorrect on that, but you know, you know
- 29:18what I mean. I think this is what this is
- 29:21Year 3 for Kyle Busch at Richard Childress.
- 29:24By the way, how about Alexander Steagall hooking us up with a
- 29:31super thanks 20 bucks appreciate that under a full season points
- 29:36format, if Joey backs into a win in a late race demo Derby like
- 29:41Texas 25 and Nashville 24, it's unfortunate, but life goes on.
- 29:47But under this win and you're in format, You know exactly what
- 29:50that means. Yes, Thank you again, Alexander.
- 29:53Is it Steagall? Steagall, appreciate the Super.
- 29:56Thanks. And also, hey, we have a members
- 30:00program. I don't know if you guys all
- 30:01know that, but we have a members program, different tiers and the
- 30:06premium member, Kenny Wallace gives you a, a, a personalized
- 30:12video every month. So we have 1X Hessler
- 30:14Motorsports is our premium member right now.
- 30:16So just want to throw that out there that that is something
- 30:20that we have on the channel, but don't ever want to think you
- 30:23have to do that because look our channel is free.
- 30:26All you have to do is watch some ads on YouTube every once in a
- 30:29while. Our channel is 100% free.
- 30:33All right, trying to go back here and get some more comments
- 30:37here we go Let's see do do do do do Sammy 5927.
- 30:42I have a feeling in the next three races, Larson wins and
- 30:47Bell wins. So coming up, what is the
- 30:51schedule here? Obviously you have Vegas, you
- 30:55have Talladega and you have you have Martinsville before the
- 31:02finish. Let's just double check that I'm
- 31:0699.9% correct on that. Yeah.
- 31:09So you have Vegas coming up on Sunday.
- 31:13That's a 5:30 Eastern Time start.
- 31:16You have Talladega, where you never know what's going to
- 31:19happen at DAGA. That's the following Sunday,
- 31:222:00 PM Eastern Time start. And then you have Martinsville
- 31:25on October 26th, also a 2:00 PM Eastern Time start to to get the
- 31:32final eight down to the Final four, the Elite 8 to the Final
- 31:36Four. Are we not allowed to say that?
- 31:38Is that something that's trademarked by college
- 31:40basketball? I don't care.
- 31:42But yeah, I mean, historically, Larson is so good at Vegas.
- 31:48Talladega is obviously a wild card.
- 31:52Denny Hamlin runs really, really well at Martinsville, does he
- 31:55not? I have to go back.
- 31:59Let's look at these races this year.
- 32:01I know historically, Kyle Larson has been amazing at Vegas, but
- 32:05let's just go this year's races, all right?
- 32:09Just hang with me here, OK? So Josh Berry won at Vegas this
- 32:17year. Let's look at the let's look at
- 32:19the results, though, just to see who else.
- 32:22And I don't remember who wrecked out and all that.
- 32:24It's a long time ago. But Vegas this year, I want to
- 32:29see who had the most laps LED. So Joey Logano LED 40 laps at
- 32:35Vegas. Kyle Larson LED 61.
- 32:38Austin Sindrich LED 47. So you look at the Fords there,
- 32:43Josh Berry won it. Sindrich LED 47 laps and Logano
- 32:49LED 40 laps. Tyler Reddick LED 34 laps.
- 32:54But that was a pretty good track for Fords.
- 32:57So the Penske cars have something to look forward to
- 33:00coming up for Vegas. And then Talladega, clearly more
- 33:06of a wild card. Syndrich won that race and in
- 33:11that race. Let's see.
- 33:13I feel like early on this year, the Penske cars, especially
- 33:16Blaney, they led so many laps early on.
- 33:20So Talladega Logano LED 24 laps earlier this year.
- 33:25Who else? Ty Gibbs LED 32 laps.
- 33:28Chase Briscoe LED 20 laps. That was kind of a mixed bag.
- 33:34But if you look at most laps LED besides Ty Gibbs, Chase Briscoe
- 33:39leading 20, how about Anthony Alfredo?
- 33:42But Joey Logano, there's that man again.
- 33:45He led 24 laps at DAGA. He could absolutely win
- 33:49Talladega. We all know that.
- 33:51And then let's go to Martinsville.
- 33:54Now I'm just looking at this year, folks.
- 33:56Again, I know Kyle Larson historically is really, really
- 34:00good at at Vegas. So there you go, right?
- 34:09I just want to go through make sure I'm not missing anything.
- 34:11Make sure I'm not missing anything, folks.
- 34:13Going through the schedule. DTT 222.
- 34:17I don't know why I was thinking, so Martinsville only has one
- 34:20race. I don't know why I was thinking
- 34:21Martinsville has two races. So I'm not going to go back to
- 34:252025 or 2024 to check out Martinsville.
- 34:29But you know Martinsville, Denny Hamlin's good at Martinsville,
- 34:33so on and so forth. OK, let's see.
- 34:36TJ says Denny is good for being honest.
- 34:39He just chokes in the play offs. You do not like Denny David
- 34:43Smith. Hamlin's great hate him on
- 34:46Sunday, but love him every other.
- 34:50Let's see fish head, Viking says.
- 34:53I see people say Team Penske is cheating everyday all around the
- 34:56track and online forums. What do you mean by that, by the
- 35:00way? I'm I'm just going to check
- 35:01'cause I want to see who won 2024 Martinsville.
- 35:05I can't Remember Remember Martinsville the year of the
- 35:08Hail Melon. Everybody thinks everybody kind
- 35:11of remembers Ross Chastain, but he did not win the race.
- 35:14It was C Bell that won that race in walk off fashion to get in to
- 35:21get into the round of 4. So 2024 cookout 400 at
- 35:25Martinsville. Let's see.
- 35:28I'm trying to find the. So Kyle Larson qualified first
- 35:32last year at Martinsville and what do we got?
- 35:37Kyle Larson won the first stage last year.
- 35:39Denny Hamlin won the second stage last year.
- 35:43Final results. William Byron.
- 35:45Look at this. Hendrick went 1-2 and three.
- 35:48I forgot about that. Hendrick goes 1-2 and three at
- 35:52Martinsville. Last year with Byron, Larson and
- 35:55Elliot, you had Blaney and Logano finishing 5th and 6th.
- 36:01Briscoe finished 10th. Obviously it was in a Ford with
- 36:06Stewart Haas Racing at that time.
- 36:08Denny Hamlin finished 11th, but Hendrick Hendrick had it at
- 36:13Martinsville last year, finishing 123, Byron Larson,
- 36:16Elliott. So if you're kind of just going
- 36:19historically at the next 3 tracks, I think it's fair to say
- 36:23Vegas you're usually given the nod to Kyle Larson.
- 36:29Although Fords were pretty damn good this year.
- 36:32Talladega we know is a complete wild card.
- 36:34Very good chance a non playoff driver wins Talladega.
- 36:38But the Fords have been really good at Daga as well.
- 36:42And then just based it on Martinsville, Denny Hamlin
- 36:45always runs well at Martinsville, but last year
- 36:49Hendrick goes 1-2 and three with their drivers with Byron Larson
- 36:56and Chase Elliott, the three guys that are still in the play
- 36:58offs this year. So Bing bang boom.
- 37:02I didn't really mention besides Hamlin, I didn't really mention
- 37:06the Toyota's much there. But we know Siebel.
- 37:09Siebel can win on any of these tracks.
- 37:11Briscoe the the way they're running can win on any of these
- 37:14tracks. Denny Hamlin can win on any of
- 37:17these tracks. It's going to be a lot, a lot of
- 37:18fun. All right, let's go back to the
- 37:21chat. Back to the chat.
- 37:24Let's see. Let's hide that.
- 37:29Here we go. Mark D hated Denny and Kyle
- 37:32Busch back in the day. Now I'm pulling for both of
- 37:34them. Perfection for me is Kyle
- 37:36winning a race this year and Denny the championship.
- 37:39That'd be fun. I would root for that for sure,
- 37:42J Bond says. I know a lot of people really
- 37:44can't stand this format. I agree.
- 37:46It's not the best way to crown a champion and it needs tweaks.
- 37:49I really like the idea of 6 drivers for four final races.
- 37:53I like that. I wouldn't argue with that.
- 37:56TJ says I'd rather race Ross in the next round as opposed to
- 38:00Joey. JGR dropped the ball.
- 38:03I agree. Paul Wolf done the same with
- 38:06Brad Keselowski. Yeah, Paul Wolf is elite at his
- 38:09job as a crew chief. He's really, really good.
- 38:12He's he's a value add, as they say.
- 38:16Not sure if that is even an option, but I like that format
- 38:19tweak. Paul Wolf, brilliant, brilliant
- 38:25fish head. Viking says he slipped up and
- 38:28Wolf and Logano took a chance pitting at lap 10 and that made
- 38:31the difference. Yes, it did.
- 38:32Michigan and Kansas are awesome to me.
- 38:35Again, I've really only paid close attention for the last
- 38:38four years. To me, Kansas year in, year out
- 38:40for two races is the best racing on the track and I think
- 38:43Michigan is right up there. Michigan is right up there for
- 38:46sure. And that's not me being biased.
- 38:49I promise. OK, let's see, We had Jetta bug.
- 38:54If Ross would have cut the last turn on the last lap and went
- 38:56through the grass to pass Denny, how would the stop and go
- 38:59penalty go if he passed the start finish line right?
- 39:03The stop and go penalty was the other one where he made three
- 39:07big mistakes. Ross did.
- 39:10Nick says NASCAR needs more female drivers.
- 39:13So what do you got, Catherine Leg, You got Tony Breidinger?
- 39:16They're doing what, ARCA and a truck race every once in awhile.
- 39:20Wasn't she doing trucks this past week?
- 39:21I believe Let's see Kyle Busch and run trucks and win that
- 39:27Triple Crown. Well, he said he's going to try
- 39:28to win. He's going to try to win the
- 39:30Truck championship, run one season of trucks right when he's
- 39:34done with Cup, and then his son Braxton can run some trucks and
- 39:41then the next year they split the schedule.
- 39:42He said that a couple years ago. That's his plan.
- 39:45Let's see. Denver Thurston says.
- 39:48Austin Sindrich said that the reason he's going to race in
- 39:50Supercars later this year 'cause he wants to learn the SVG way
- 39:53and race with drivers that SVG competed with in the past to
- 39:57learn from them as well. That's cool, Wallace McKinney
- 40:01says. Me myself, I think Kyle Bush
- 40:03should go back to the Truck Series where the Truck Series
- 40:05championship. Win the Truck Series
- 40:07championship, then he'll be the only one that has a championship
- 40:10in all three series. Yup, just said that I agree.
- 40:16I hope #17 will win. 17's Butcher.
- 40:20Right? I should know that I should know
- 40:23that. Let's check.
- 40:25Butcher's another guy who, if you go by the Winston Cup
- 40:29format, he's like a top ten guy and didn't even make the frickin
- 40:35play offs, didn't even make the play offs.
- 40:38Play offs. Where's Buscher?
- 40:43I'm still, I'm still learning every single number.
- 40:46OK, Yeah, Buscher finished fourth, by the way.
- 40:51Finished fourth yesterday at the Rowville.
- 40:55All right, we got Ken Simpson. Playoff format only increases
- 41:00race manipulation. NASCAR should forget about
- 41:02casual fans and go for hardcore fans that spend money and go to
- 41:05the tracks and understand the strategy.
- 41:08I get that. I think you need, I think you
- 41:10need both. I'd consider myself
- 41:12traditionally a casual fan and the playoffs get me more
- 41:16interested. I think there's a lot of people
- 41:18like me. Let's see.
- 41:21Christian Budd says, not sure if you can use it.
- 41:23MLB got mad at Tony Stewart for the Midsummer Classic talking
- 41:26about the Final Four for NASCAR. Let's see, we got Mark D says.
- 41:34Hated Denny and Kyle Busch back in the day.
- 41:37Now I'm pulling for both of them.
- 41:38Perfection for me is Kyle winning a race this year and
- 41:40Denny the championship. Did I already read that or did
- 41:45you send that in twice? I know I read that already.
- 41:49Fish Head Viking. I literally don't even know what
- 41:52they mean by that. That's why I'm confused.
- 41:54I can't remember what this is about because I'm now I'm 6
- 41:58minutes behind on the chat. I like to get my opinions out
- 42:01there first and then read your guys.
- 42:03So I apologize. I'm behind.
- 42:05Impossible for Kyle Busch to win the Triple Crown now.
- 42:09Why is that? He could win trucks if he if he
- 42:12does a season of trucks here. Yeah, not right now.
- 42:15He's talking about when when Kyle Busch retires from Cup, he
- 42:18said he's going to run one full season of trucks to try to win
- 42:21that elusive championship. Let's see, we got the random guy
- 42:27age Bush needs a super license and needs at least a few years
- 42:31of lower open wheel racing to even be able to drive an F1 car.
- 42:38OK, let's see. Oh, Triple Crown, I got you.
- 42:43OK, when I hear Triple Crown, I think of Andy Lemons and Monaco.
- 42:48I got you. We were talking about Cup,
- 42:51Xfinity and Trucks. Yep all good.
- 42:54Christian Budd says since you are a newer fan or returning at
- 42:58least, do you find the point system easy or hard to follow?
- 43:01You talk about currently I think it's pretty easy to follow.
- 43:05I think the play offs are pretty easy to follow if if you just
- 43:08TuneIn I think the broadcast they do a good job of explaining
- 43:12during the cut off races. I think Lee Diffie does a really
- 43:14good job explaining the play off situation.
- 43:17I like the play offs. I understand again the argument
- 43:22about there's less focus on the superstars or the guys winning
- 43:25the races. But again, to me, Logano and
- 43:29Chastain, they are stars. And one of those guys got in the
- 43:33round of 8 and Logano and one of them didn't.
- 43:35And those were two star drivers. And a lot of the focus was on
- 43:38that, which to me was way more interesting.
- 43:40Let's be real, way more interesting than SVG winning a
- 43:43race by 15 seconds. And I give SVG all the credit in
- 43:47the world, but we've seen him win five straight now.
- 43:49And I don't want to say been there done that, but like SVG
- 43:52was a great story couple years ago when he wins the Chicago St.
- 43:55course race. He's a great story now, but he's
- 43:57almost so dominant that he's made it boring.
- 43:59If there wasn't a playoff format yesterday, that race to me would
- 44:03have been a snooze fest. Let's see, TJ says, how about
- 44:09the original Chase format? 10 races to rule them all.
- 44:12I'm, I'm down with that too. I think NASCAR should try it all
- 44:15right now again, NASCAR, NASCAR, I don't want to say it's a
- 44:19crisis, but they're at a point where they should try anything
- 44:23and they should see how it works.
- 44:25And, and you might say it's Bush league.
- 44:27I would be cool if NASCAR did a season, a full season points the
- 44:30next year, go back to the Chase, do a year of 3 or 4 for the
- 44:34final round. And honestly, see, I don't call
- 44:37that a gimmick if if everybody knows what the deal is before
- 44:40the season starts, see what it looks like.
- 44:43See how the fans show up at the tracks, see how the fans watch
- 44:46on TV, see how the ratings reflect all that.
- 44:49I think NASCAR is in a is in a weird spot.
- 44:53It's not a great spot to be in, but it's also a spot where you
- 44:56can experiment. And I don't think fans will be
- 44:57mad about that. I don't care if some people
- 45:00criticize him. You might.
- 45:01Oh, it's a garage. Like, no, the fans, the fans are
- 45:05kind of asking for change. So run a couple different
- 45:08formats and see whatever works best.
- 45:10I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
- 45:11I I would be totally cool with that.
- 45:13If you want to next year go 3 or 4 races for the final round and
- 45:18then you want to do a full season points and then you want
- 45:21to do a 10 race chase for the next three years, try them all
- 45:24out and see what happens. I would be totally cool with
- 45:26that. I think that would actually be
- 45:28smart if NASCAR did that and see basically again how fans respond
- 45:34at the tracks and on TV. So there you go.
- 45:37TJ says try something other than A1 race championship.
- 45:41I agree with that wholeheartedly.
- 45:43All right, we have 88 of you watching because the 88 car of
- 45:47SVG won yesterday at the Rowville.
- 45:49We will shut her down right there.
- 45:52Nick says good idea. Thank you, Nick for chiming in.
- 45:56I appreciate that. I appreciate all of you guys
- 45:58chiming in. Thank you again, Alexander
- 46:01Steagall for the Super thanks. We'll show them up there one
- 46:05more time. We already we already answered
- 46:08his question, but we really appreciate the Super thanks and
- 46:10thank you all for for watching. Let's check how many watched on
- 46:13YouTube. 88 of you watching live.
- 46:16You are looking live. How about total 1037 of you have
- 46:22watched this live stream for the last 45 minutes and we will
- 46:25repost this. You're probably listening now
- 46:26also on Kenny Wallace media. All right, Charlie Marlowe
- 46:31signing off. I'm going to do a couple more
- 46:34just because couple more came in, Edward Way says too many TV
- 46:39services needed. I get that.
- 46:41I get that. That's kind of a lot of sports
- 46:43now, unfortunately. But I feel your pain.
- 46:46Denver Thurston as an outsider looking in my playoff picture, a
- 46:50top 20 with a wild card elimination race at Daytona to
- 46:53decide the top 16. No win and you're in.
- 46:57I like that, Lenville says. I hope Denny gets his
- 47:00championship out of the way. If you were for or against
- 47:03Denny, he can drive the car. That is so true.
- 47:06TJ says take care of everyone. We'll end on that.
- 47:09TJ, thank you. Thank you everybody.
- 47:11Charlie Marlowe signing off, Thank you so much for watching.
- 47:14Love you all end stream.
