Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic, off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Firazzo.
- 0:20Friends, family and Christ, thank you so much for tuning in.
- 0:23Now we appreciate you guys so much.
- 0:25Thank you for sharing the podcast.
- 0:28It's really kind of unbelievable how it's getting out there.
- 0:30And forgive me as I'm going through my notes here while I'm talking to you.
- 0:35So yeah, things are going well.
- 0:36It's getting close to Christmas.
- 0:37Hopefully you're staying grounded and rooted in the Word of God and that we will have
- 0:42meaningful Christmas celebrations with friends or family or maybe at your work.
- 0:49And it's not just about the shopping and the commercialism of it and what TV makes it
- 0:54out to be.
- 0:55I always have my, I get up on my soapbox about TV commercials showing all red and green
- 1:01presents and they might show a tree, they might show frosty.
- 1:05No mention of Christmas, nothing.
- 1:07How many times do they say this holiday?
- 1:10What holiday are they talking about?
- 1:12But I want to spare you the rest of that right now, very interesting program today we
- 1:17have for you.
- 1:18For those of you especially with creative talents that you've always wanted to use for
- 1:22the Lord, maybe you always wanted to do something for a living, but didn't think you could
- 1:26do it and glorify God.
- 1:27But I think you're going to be encouraged today.
- 1:30We've got Darby Kern with us.
- 1:31He's in studio.
- 1:33He says he was an underachiever in high school and he's got a degree, but he says he's
- 1:38done nothing with it.
- 1:39But his life got better when he married his wife, Bobby Joe, they have two very intelligent
- 1:44his words, daughters in college.
- 1:47And since 1999, he's been a professional writer, mostly in Christian audio drama, and
- 1:53I want to give you the website.
- 1:54The main website is jakemulleradventures.com, jakemulleradventures.com will tell you who
- 2:03Jake is and Darby Kern also has a website that's Darby, KERN-com or dot com.
- 2:13Yes, there we go.
- 2:14There he is.
- 2:15Hey brother, welcome.
- 2:16Good to have you in the studio.
- 2:17Good to be here.
- 2:18Yeah.
- 2:19So you're in green Bay, right?
- 2:20Yep.
- 2:21Okay.
- 2:22Yeah, so good to have you here.
- 2:23So basically, I'm just going to walk through your background a little bit before we get
- 2:27to these.
- 2:28You're going, what are those?
- 2:29Well, he produces audio dramas, and I'm going to tell you how he got to this point.
- 2:34Well, I'm going to let him tell the story.
- 2:37First of all, you were working in some other field and you were trying to do maybe your dream
- 2:42or your what you were talented in on the side, tell us about how your progression came
- 2:47to be.
- 2:48Yeah.
- 2:49I have always been a fan of old time radio, audio drama, whatever you want to call it, grew
- 2:55up listening to, you know, in Milwaukee, I think his WISN used to play the shadow and
- 3:00the loan ranger and stuff.
- 3:01But the moody network has all their stuff that we listened to.
- 3:05The stories are great Christians, Ranger Bill, the story books, the, wow, now I'm on
- 3:18a spot and I can't remember stuff.
- 3:19Well, it was years ago.
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:21Well, I've listened to recently too, like Sugar Creek Gang, all those, and I just grew up listening
- 3:27to an audio drama, loved it, loved the medium, and graduated high school, fortunately,
- 3:35and spent 25 years working in my dad's restaurant.
- 3:40Wow.
- 3:41And while I was doing that, I just got a taste, I wanted to be doing some writing.
- 3:48And what actually happened was we went to the Christian bookstore and found out there
- 3:53was an audio drama of the left behind books, being produced in Wheaton, Illinois, by
- 3:58Gap Digital, and just on a goof, I emailed Gap Digital, a gentleman named Todd Busteed
- 4:07is the guy behind it all.
- 4:10And just said, hey, you're doing exactly what I'd love to be doing.
- 4:14And, you know, if you ever need a writer or anything, you know, I mean, it's kind of
- 4:20a thing that doesn't work anymore, but it did work out that way.
- 4:23And I got an email from Todd, which the first thing I noticed about it was he sent it at
- 4:28three o'clock in the morning, and I thought, okay, this is probably not the kind of schedule
- 4:33I want to be working on.
- 4:34Creative people.
- 4:35Yeah.
- 4:36Yeah, exactly.
- 4:37And he said, if you're seriously interested in this, I'm going to give you an audition.
- 4:42So he told me to go find a book, and a particular book, he says, write me an episode.
- 4:47So I, you know, I read that at seven o'clock in the morning by ten o'clock I had to book
- 4:52in my hands, and just wrote a sample episode form, and he liked it, and he just kept my
- 4:57name in a file.
- 4:58Okay.
- 4:59Years later, they were launching left behind the kids, audio drama, and he invited me to
- 5:04participate, and the rest is.
- 5:07That's awesome.
- 5:08So you got, you kind of got started on the left behind audio dramas, and the kids.
- 5:13And then you said you were also a writer on, let's see, the rising.
- 5:19Yeah, the rising was the, it's the first prequel book that Jerry Jenkins wrote after the
- 5:25main series was done.
- 5:27And that's actually still some of my favorite writing that I've done.
- 5:33My personal favorite, most successful, I think.
- 5:36Why is that?
- 5:37It just seemed to hit exactly the way I wanted it to.
- 5:41And at that point, Todd trusted me enough that I could really do some writing in a way
- 5:49that was different from all the other audio drama that you heard.
- 5:53Which at the time, and still, for that matter, you know, folks on the family doing adventures
- 5:59in Odyssey, that was a high watermark.
- 6:01And you know, we were doing stuff that really just because of the nature of the audience
- 6:07and the series of books and the material that they would never try on Odyssey.
- 6:12And that's okay.
- 6:13Okay.
- 6:14They have their niche in there.
- 6:15They're doing it well.
- 6:17So you've got a lot of projects, Jeff, I think you can pull up a Derby's website.
- 6:23You've got all kinds of projects on there.
- 6:25I go to DerbyKern.com and just scroll down a little bit.
- 6:30You can see some of the projects.
- 6:31There it is.
- 6:32Yeah.
- 6:33You've worked on and let's see what else the extraordinary adventures of GA Henty talks
- 6:42about that.
- 6:43Yeah.
- 6:44That was produced by heirloom audio.
- 6:46It's my friend Bill Hyde.
- 6:49He lives in Northeastern Illinois, kind of on the river.
- 6:56But you could stay here in Green Bay and work from home.
- 7:00Which is amazing.
- 7:01Yeah.
- 7:02I didn't even have to put pants on most days to go to work.
- 7:04It was nice.
- 7:05Hopefully I'd sweat or something.
- 7:07Yeah.
- 7:08That house is always a little cool.
- 7:10Yeah.
- 7:11Bill had been doing the adventures of GA Henty, extraordinary adventures of GA Henty for
- 7:17a couple of years.
- 7:18And I knew plenty of the people who were involved and at one point I think they just needed
- 7:22a writer.
- 7:23They needed a script pretty quick and by that point I sort of got the reputation of working
- 7:28pretty fast.
- 7:30And doing a decent job.
- 7:32I home.
- 7:33And so they got in touch with me and I wrote the one that's on there Wolf the Saxon,
- 7:41which is really about the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
- 7:44But Henty always created a character who was sort of a cipher who had moved through these
- 7:50historical events.
- 7:51Okay.
- 7:52And the books are a lot of fun.
- 7:54They're over 100 years old now.
- 7:57And not as historically accurate as we would have hoped, but they were good.
- 8:04And these were sent, you know, mostly the subscription was for homeschool families.
- 8:08Okay.
- 8:09They love that.
- 8:10Christian themes.
- 8:11Absolutely.
- 8:12You say that they are stories of honor, heroism, selflessness, qualities that aren't encouraged
- 8:18the way that they should be today, right?
- 8:21So these are good things for young families to have.
- 8:25And then tell us about Unshackled.
- 8:27Unshackled?
- 8:28Well, it's the longest running audio drama in history right now.
- 8:32The show was started in 1950.
- 8:35Wow.
- 8:36I've been involved for, I think, three or four years.
- 8:40It's produced by the Pacific Art Mission in Chicago, great, great group of people.
- 8:45They love the Lord and they are just committed to honoring him.
- 8:49Unshackled are true stories of people whose lives were just a hot mess, we would say
- 8:57now.
- 8:58Just really in a bad place.
- 9:01And they came to Lord and every story is different.
- 9:06And you know, everyone has, I mean, we all have our own stories.
- 9:10But, you know, mine doesn't involve, you know, laying in an alley with a needle stuck in
- 9:16my arm or something like that and some of these people have that and it's, it's just
- 9:22powerful.
- 9:23It's a, God has really used that, that show to draw people to him and the mission is amazing
- 9:28too.
- 9:29So I have another one January 3rd going down now.
- 9:32Really awesome.
- 9:33They do live recording.
- 9:34They do live recording.
- 9:35People get ahold of that.
- 9:36They have an app that, and that's how I listen to everything on it, but it also plays
- 9:42on a lot of radio stations around the country.
- 9:45I know in Green Bay, WRVM has been playing it for 40 years, maybe.
- 9:50Is that on Saturday or Sunday morning?
- 9:52I think it runs every night.
- 9:53Okay.
- 9:54Night time.
- 9:55Okay.
- 9:56They run some reruns and then there's a new one.
- 9:57Unshackled.
- 9:58I've actually heard of them.
- 9:59Yeah.
- 10:00Yeah.
- 10:01And the voice of the master.
- 10:02That's right.
- 10:03All right.
- 10:04So, well, this brings us to the Jake Muller adventures.
- 10:05I met you.
- 10:06I met you years ago.
- 10:07Yeah.
- 10:08But most recently, I was preaching, filling in for my pastor one way Christian Church
- 10:15on Green Bay, Wisconsin.
- 10:16You happen to come on a day when I was sharing a message on spiritual warfare and colliding
- 10:21worldviews and demonic agendas.
- 10:24And you say that the Jake Muller adventures is largely about spiritual warfare.
- 10:30I'm going to give the website again.
- 10:31It's Jake Muller Adventures.com.
- 10:35So tell us how you started this, the idea, the development, and a more about Jake Muller.
- 10:41Yeah.
- 10:42There was a period of time when I was not writing much.
- 10:45There were a few jobs.
- 10:47I was actually pre-COVID.
- 10:49So I gave him a swimming before COVID.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53BC.
- 10:54Exactly.
- 10:55Boy, the world has changed.
- 10:56Yes, it has.
- 10:58But I was, I was working.
- 11:00I had an idea for a story and I just thought, okay.
- 11:03You know, if I don't get this story out of my system, it's just going to become toxic.
- 11:08And that's one of the, one of the hard parts of being a writer.
- 11:11If you don't have an outlet for some of this stuff, some of your ideas, it can become
- 11:16a bad scene.
- 11:18So I went ahead and I wrote the script and did a little research on it, wrote the script.
- 11:24It's the first one called unidentified.
- 11:27And all the stories, all the Jake Muller adventures start with a question.
- 11:33What should a Christian have to do with blank?
- 11:36And for that one, it was aliens, UFOs, extraterrestrials, UAPs, whatever you want to call them.
- 11:43And you know, there's 150 sightings of something every day.
- 11:49So what are they?
- 11:50I mean, obviously, there's something out there.
- 11:51Are they demonic spirits, do you think?
- 11:53Well, not to spoil the show.
- 11:55Yeah.
- 11:56Yeah, that is my idea.
- 11:57That is what I believe.
- 11:58Yeah.
- 11:59Well, I think I don't really, I know there's a lot of people to say, absolutely aliens are
- 12:05absolutely real, life on other planets.
- 12:09I mean, maybe that's in God's territory.
- 12:12Yeah.
- 12:13But what we understand is demonic spirits, angels, principalities, if you read Ephesians
- 12:166 and other places in Scripture, warfare.
- 12:20I'm even the angel that announced to Mary that she would have the Jesus, right?
- 12:27And just some angels appear to people in Scripture.
- 12:31And there's a very real aspect to that.
- 12:32And then spiritual warfare comes into play.
- 12:35Go ahead and continue, Darb.
- 12:36Well, I wrote the show and just, you know, so I had it out of my system at that point,
- 12:41but then I thought, no, I really like the script.
- 12:43How am I going to get this produced?
- 12:45So I'm part of a group of like-minded Christians who enjoy audio drama.
- 12:54And I just put it out to one of them, hey, is anybody interested in helping me with
- 12:59the show?
- 13:00I don't know what I'm going to need, actors, but I'll definitely need a, you know, a sound
- 13:04designer and an editor for it.
- 13:06And one gentleman in a group, his name is Micah Tuchet, lives in Louisiana.
- 13:12He stepped up and was interested.
- 13:14And I gave him kind of a brief audition, you know, as far as being able to put just a kind
- 13:21of trailer together for it, that we recorded with some actors.
- 13:24And he knocked it out of the park.
- 13:26And I'm convinced that the Lord put them on my path for some good things to happen.
- 13:33And we've worked together on all three shows so far.
- 13:36So you say all three, do I have all three of them here?
- 13:40Yep.
- 13:41I've got undead, I've got blood, and I've got unidentified.
- 13:45So these are the three that you're talking about.
- 13:47Yeah.
- 13:48Friends, you can get these.
- 13:49Primarily, these are geared toward young Christian families.
- 13:54Well, we always say that we are trying to catch the kids who have been growing up listening
- 14:00to adventures in Odyssey, and they hit a, hit an age where they think, I'm too cool
- 14:05for that kid's stuff.
- 14:06So we give him a story that's action and adventure, but with a Christian worldview, we,
- 14:12we used to describe it as the adventures of Indiana Jones meets the intrigue of the exfiles
- 14:18but from a Christian worldview.
- 14:20But if you think about it, both Indiana Jones and the exfiles are kind of outdated now.
- 14:24So I've come up with a new one, if anybody has any ideas, let me know.
- 14:28So we're going to continue with Darby when we come right back on World View Matters.
- 14:33Introducing the World View Matters Conference coming to Green Bay, Wisconsin, May 1st and
- 14:382nd, 2026.
- 14:39Here are some of the featured speakers, Ken Michael, Olivier Melnick, Tim Chafee, Mark
- 14:47and Amber Archer, Laura Perry Smalls, Dr. Jake Jacobs, Jay Seigert, Gary Cod, Scott
- 14:55Shera, and Elijah Abraham.
- 14:58That's the World View Matters Conference May 1st and 2nd, 2026, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
- 15:05Friends, family and Christ, we are now in our third year of producing World View Matters
- 15:09and Praise God, that's all I have to say, thank you.
- 15:14New studio, we are just on a roll here, thanks to your prayers and your financial support.
- 15:21It's fundraising season, and I'm just going to be transparent about this, a lot of nonprofits
- 15:25do this.
- 15:26And right now we're gearing up for the next year of more podcasting, more great guests.
- 15:31And I would love for you to jump on board if you haven't yet.
- 15:34And this is only for people who are able to give financially, all right?
- 15:38And I don't want to, you know, say, you know, things are tight for you, don't worry about
- 15:42just pray and share, share the podcast, but we would love to get you on board if you
- 15:47could send, for example, $200, a gift, a tax deductible gift, word on profit, right?
- 15:53$25 a month, if you want to be a monthly support, a lot of people do it that way.
- 15:56And as just a small token of our gratitude, we've got brand new stainless steel tumblers
- 16:01here.
- 16:02It's got World View Matters on one side and keep speaking the truth about things that
- 16:06matter.
- 16:07That's my tagline.
- 16:08That's on the other side.
- 16:09Those of you who are able to donate, we'd appreciate it very much.
- 16:13Go to worldviewmatters.tv and thank you so much for your present support.
- 16:19I want to mention just another brother who sent Christmas card.
- 16:22This is Joe and I think it's Marie.
- 16:27I think it's Marie.
- 16:28It might be Marnie.
- 16:29Forgive me, Joe.
- 16:30Anyway, he says, keep speaking for the Lord, opposition may rise, but truth always conquers
- 16:36and truth never dies.
- 16:38Marie Christmas, he says, blessed New Year.
- 16:41We appreciate that.
- 16:42And he is, anyway, one of the many, many supporters, I've got more to read as we continue to go
- 16:48through this list.
- 16:49We're just going to do this is the last week of putting the ask out there.
- 16:53So thank you so much for your support and encouragement.
- 16:55Back to Darby Kern, I want to talk about Jake Muller's adventures and what you've mentioned
- 17:01about the undead.
- 17:02There's two more.
- 17:03You said they're coming out?
- 17:04There's two more that are going to be coming out in 2026.
- 17:09We've already recorded the voices and begun the post-production work on them and they're
- 17:15going to be, the next one after undead is called engineered and it's about social engineering.
- 17:22Really great topic deals pretty strongly with a lot of the spiritual warfare issues.
- 17:29I don't want to spoil anything for people who are going to see this and say, hey, let's
- 17:35listen to this.
- 17:36But there's a cabal of people who are trying to control the world.
- 17:41And it may be more close to reality than fiction.
- 17:45OK.
- 17:46Well, people need to know about these things too.
- 17:49Even young people that are growing up and they need to understand what's happening.
- 17:54In fact, what should Christian think about these things?
- 17:57One of the things you sent me some pre-show notes on were vampire subcultures.
- 18:04I mean, they're in New York, Chicago, in New Orleans, other places, vampires, voodoo.
- 18:09It's very real to these people and cults and other things.
- 18:13It's a very real thing.
- 18:14But so what about Christians and do you address any of these in your projects?
- 18:19Yeah.
- 18:20Blood is all about the vampire subculture.
- 18:21The story takes place in Chicago and there is this subculture that exists.
- 18:27There where you think that it's just role-playing or something like that.
- 18:33And for some people, it might be or it might be that's how they get started.
- 18:37But there's a real, I'm not afraid to say demonic element to some of it.
- 18:45And some people take it well beyond role-playing and create a lifestyle around it.
- 18:51And it's not that people go around biting necks and drinking blood or anything like that,
- 18:58but there's an element of blood that is involved in what they're doing.
- 19:04So I'm asking the question, what should a Christian think about this?
- 19:09I mean, the obvious answer is this is something we should really flee from.
- 19:16But then what does blood mean to a Christian and blood sack or fight against it?
- 19:21They're washed by the blood of the Lamb, but the blood of Christ.
- 19:24Which is a great sentiment, but for someone who's not a believer who doesn't understand
- 19:30the artistic element of what you're saying, it just sounds weird.
- 19:34And we have a lot of songs and hymns that talk about the blood, and they're great songs,
- 19:39they're great hymns.
- 19:42But we need to make sure that these people who don't know the Lord will understand what
- 19:48we're talking about.
- 19:49So you mentioned social engineering, oh my goodness.
- 19:53You also mentioned you've got an upcoming show that deals with a new world order, working
- 19:58about to bring about the anti-Christ.
- 20:00I mean, we talk about that on this program.
- 20:04Tell us about that.
- 20:05Well, that actually, the seeds of that get started in the very first show, Undead.
- 20:10There's a bottom on actually, the blue one.
- 20:14Oh, like I said.
- 20:15Oh, I'm sorry.
- 20:16Unidentified.
- 20:17Unidentified.
- 20:18Hey, I'm showing the right one, unidentified.
- 20:21I screwed up.
- 20:23In that, you're introduced to this cabal that strangely has their offices in Strasbourg,
- 20:30France.
- 20:31You don't want to say too much more about that.
- 20:33And it's just populated with the UN, or they might have something to do with that.
- 20:39But they, I don't present them as anything but corrupt and demonic.
- 20:48And I believe that it's, I think there are people who are controlled.
- 20:52I think there's a lot of people in power who are not doing the Lord's work, even the opposite
- 21:01of that.
- 21:03So there's an ultimate group of bad guys that you learn about more.
- 21:08But the fifth story, it's called Shroud, is kind of a combination.
- 21:15Now I'm going to be secretive about this.
- 21:17Okay, that's coming out next year.
- 21:19That, yeah, that'll be towards the end of next year.
- 21:22It's a bit of the boys from Brazil, what else would I say?
- 21:30I take these old stories and old movies and kind of update it.
- 21:36So there's an element of science fiction involved.
- 21:39But there's nothing that happens that I don't think is happening in the real world.
- 21:44So.
- 21:45Okay, something before we run out of time, Darby, you said what you sent me, we were exchanging
- 21:51emails before he came on the show.
- 21:54You said biblical eschatology is a subject you've studied for about 40 years.
- 21:59Yeah.
- 22:00You're very into that.
- 22:01Talk to us about your interest in that and just share your thoughts on that.
- 22:05Yeah.
- 22:06If you want to label me, I would be considered a pre-trib dispensationalist.
- 22:13It's what I see in the Bible.
- 22:14There's a lot of people who probably just turned off the podcast because they don't know
- 22:18it.
- 22:19No, I think most majority, we can agree to disagree on these things.
- 22:23We do not break fellowship with believers who have different views on the rapture.
- 22:29But I mean, the other doctrinal issues and cults and false teachings, yes.
- 22:33But this is something most of our audience is probably aligned with.
- 22:37Yeah.
- 22:38And I don't think that my ideas are unorthodox or anything, but I think when I was about
- 22:4618, I started reading more about it, listened to some conferences that were recorded and
- 22:58just started thinking about things in a different way.
- 23:00And what I realized and what most important to me is that clearly, clearly, scripturally,
- 23:08got had a plan.
- 23:10And it's a detailed plan and it's an exact plan.
- 23:14And nothing that happens is a surprise to them.
- 23:17So all these things go in a row and it's funny because in the mid 1980s, when I really
- 23:25started studying this stuff, people had ideas about what was coming up and I'd read just
- 23:30about everything.
- 23:31And you know, someone comes up with 88 reasons why he's coming back in 88 and then 89
- 23:36reasons, you know, all that jazz and it just really created an interest in me that I need
- 23:46to get into the word.
- 23:47I need to understand this stuff and gone through some periods of my life where I was less
- 23:52interested in spiritual matters.
- 23:54And that always ends with a question about, okay, why do I believe what I believe?
- 23:59And one of the things, just one of the things that really draws me back every time I would
- 24:05even think to, you know, answer, ask that question is a biblical prophecy.
- 24:11Mm-hmm.
- 24:12Oh my goodness.
- 24:13Yes, which is between a third and a quarter of the Bible.
- 24:17And Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies.
- 24:20People don't put a lot of emphasis on that.
- 24:23Like, I think it should be emphasized because if you can predict the outcome and successfully,
- 24:30I mean, the Bible's got a 100% track record of being right on prophecy.
- 24:34And more to come, by the way, and plus, the prophecy from Isaiah, what was it about 700
- 24:39BC?
- 24:40Yeah.
- 24:41700 years before Jesus was born.
- 24:43That's where we get our, the wonderful counselor, Prince of Peace, mighty God, everlasting
- 24:48father.
- 24:49Right.
- 24:50That's Isaiah 9, you know, 6 and 7 there, but then we get the part where the government will
- 24:54be on his shoulders and that hasn't happened yet, but it's going to.
- 24:59So before we run out of time, I want you to encourage creative people that are in our
- 25:03audience that would love to use their gifts and talents and whatever capacity for the Lord,
- 25:08but maybe our hesitant, I know you've gone through that, maybe a lot of ups and downs.
- 25:13Share your heart on that.
- 25:15I just do what you're doing.
- 25:17If you're interested in something like acting, voice acting, their place is to go where
- 25:24you can get connected with people who are doing a lot of production or writing or writing.
- 25:28Yeah.
- 25:29Right.
- 25:30Absolutely.
- 25:32And, you know, there's, I'm working on a course, a video course for writing, which I can't
- 25:39even promote now because there's not enough to put together, but, you know, learn, learn
- 25:45how to write, learn for yourself why you want to write.
- 25:50You have a story, tell it as best you can, find a way, and if you're thinking about like
- 25:56a movie script or an audio drama script, just imagine the best movie you can imagine,
- 26:02beginning to end, and then go back and write it all down.
- 26:06It's, you know, it's as simple as that, but it's as difficult as that.
- 26:09And then you have to be disciplined and get down and just write it out in the details.
- 26:14So you have a podcast too, right, Jake Muller, adventures.com podcast, it's been a little
- 26:20farlo, for a while, but we're going to be coming back real soon.

- 27:12check these out for their kids, especially homeschool families, that as you said, once

- 27:21a great transition.
