- 0:00Speaker 1: Are we needed in this at all? It's one more thing.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm one more thing before we get to arguing through
- 0:12Speaker 1: chat GPT. It's Katie's birthday today. What do you do
- 0:17Speaker 1: for your birthday? A person like you?
- 0:19Speaker 2: I go to the gym and continue my day as usual.
- 0:24Speaker 1: That's probably why you look so young at thirty six.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You look much younger than thirty. When I was thirty six,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I looked fifty six, and when I was fifty six,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I looked a hundred and two.
- 0:34Speaker 2: So I really appreciate that. Because somebody asked me if
- 0:37Speaker 2: it was I was going to be.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Forty, So I was like, oh really, oh you there,
- 0:42Speaker 1: there's something wrong with them. And I'm not just saying
- 0:44Speaker 1: this would be nice. No way, you look forty.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Aren't you?
- 0:51Speaker 3: I heard on TikTok you're supposed to have a birthday week.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Oh now, I.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Get a manny and a petty and a manny petty
- 0:57Speaker 3: and then you go out for mimosas or something, and
- 0:59Speaker 3: then you have a trip with your friends.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Gallentine's Day or something.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Oh no, no, my husband works all week, So Drew's
- 1:07Speaker 4: gonna take me out for a nice dinner later this
- 1:09Speaker 4: week and just keep it simple.
- 1:11Speaker 1: There you go. Yeah, so if you're not pleased with
- 1:15Speaker 1: the way he handles your birthday, you could ask chat
- 1:19Speaker 1: GBT if he did a good enough job, and it
- 1:22Speaker 1: would suggest what you should say to him. Kiss. So
- 1:25Speaker 1: I became aware of this the other day through someone
- 1:28Speaker 1: I know who in a group of people they talk to.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I gotta be vague, I'm gonna get somebody in trouble here,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and I really don't want to, but I find this
- 1:37Speaker 1: to be a fascinating topic. Apparently it's pretty damn common
- 1:43Speaker 1: for people to go to chat GPT or something similar
- 1:46Speaker 1: for some like marriage counseling or guidance or like, hey,
- 1:51Speaker 1: my husband did this, how should I react? It reminds
- 1:55Speaker 1: me that I've been mentioning a lot. Like the new
- 1:56Speaker 1: iPhone software, when I get a text, it has the
- 2:00Speaker 1: suggestion at the bottom of how I should respond, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: it weirds me out a little, and that sometimes it's
- 2:05Speaker 1: really dang close, like practically word for word what I
- 2:08Speaker 1: was gonna say, Like, you know, if the response is
- 2:12Speaker 1: sounds good, I'll see you then looking forward to it.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And I was gonna say more or less than that
- 2:18Speaker 1: that that anyway, I think, why don't I just press send.
- 2:21Speaker 1: But I haven't done it yet because it kind of
- 2:23Speaker 1: creeps me out, the idea of not forming those thoughts
- 2:28Speaker 1: myself and just kind of starting to rely on chat
- 2:32Speaker 1: GPT because then if I.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Respond sends you a provocative text right now, and we'll
- 2:36Speaker 3: see what chat GPT suggests, because it doesn't untext, right
- 2:40Speaker 3: I'm trying to remember, yeah, yeah, yeah, because at some
- 2:44Speaker 3: point it weirds me out, and that like if I
- 2:46Speaker 3: respond with it an AI.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Response and then THEIRS is cool, you know, that's great,
- 2:54Speaker 1: this will really be fun. But THEIRS is a if
- 2:57Speaker 1: both of them are chat GPT responses talking to me again,
- 3:01Speaker 1: Like I started, what are we doing here? We even needed?
- 3:03Speaker 1: Do we need to be here? Or we should just
- 3:04Speaker 1: let them have a conversation. Leave them alone. It look
- 3:07Speaker 1: like they're having a good time.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I had to laugh the other day. Well no, I
- 3:10Speaker 4: let me take that back. I was not laughing. My
- 3:13Speaker 4: my dear friend's dog passed away recently and she text
- 3:16Speaker 4: messaged me about it, and one of the recommended responses
- 3:20Speaker 4: was it'll be okay, stay strong. Oh my god, if
- 3:24Speaker 4: I ever sent that, she would unfriend me yesterday.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Wow, that is straight out of the generics aisle where
- 3:32Speaker 3: let's see, can I get a response for under two dollars? Oh,
- 3:35Speaker 3: here's one.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder if eventually that's what it'll be. It'll
- 3:42Speaker 1: be the free one gives you suggestions like that, which
- 3:45Speaker 1: will just you know, for premium members, if you're paying
- 3:48Speaker 1: nine to ninety nine a month and it's a cheap subscription,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know it'll put a little thought in here.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Would you like a more insightful and compassionate response. It'll
- 3:57Speaker 3: only cost you a dollar ninety nine a month.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Right, But so these people were using chat GPT getting
- 4:04Speaker 1: into arguments with their husband or whatever, and this one
- 4:06Speaker 1: person said, I've been using it to communicate with my husband.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It's fantastic. It's a game changer. And the chat GPT
- 4:13Speaker 1: had said to this person after they explained their argument,
- 4:20Speaker 1: blah blah bah, no need to feel guilty. You're used
- 4:23Speaker 1: to managing his emotions and now that he's upset, it's
- 4:27Speaker 1: triggering that guilt. But you're right, he shouldn't. You shouldn't
- 4:29Speaker 1: feel guilty. If he chooses to be upset, that's on him. Okay,
- 4:34Speaker 1: that may or may not be good advice. I don't
- 4:36Speaker 1: know what the input was but again, it's a computer
- 4:40Speaker 1: telling you this, And what if he caught her like
- 4:43Speaker 1: having a threesome on the kitchen table, then right then
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, well, it's up to him to deal with
- 4:50Speaker 1: his own emotions.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You shouldn't feel guilty. Let's wait a minute. Some of
- 4:53Speaker 3: the responses.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Some of the responses were, oh, yeah, I use it
- 4:57Speaker 1: every single day in trying to talk to my husband.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Somebody said it's teaching me communication skills I wish I
- 5:02Speaker 1: had when I was younger. Okay, so you're seeing a
- 5:05Speaker 1: benefit out of it.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Sure.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Another one, Uh.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I programmed this ahead.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I programmed my AI bought to assume Taylor Swift's identity
- 5:24Speaker 1: so I get advice from her.
- 5:27Speaker 3: What I almost Yeah, wait a minute, Yeah, I'm gonna
- 5:35Speaker 3: set mind to Mick Jagger. Can see what advice Mick
- 5:38Speaker 3: has for me in my marriage.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Harvey Weinstein, No Icky, and a number of people saying, yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 1: chat GPT is my therapist. Now I come home every
- 5:52Speaker 1: day and tell the chat GPT you know, everything that
- 5:55Speaker 1: happened at work, like with a coworker, with my husband
- 5:57Speaker 1: or my kids or whatever, and they listen really good
- 6:00Speaker 1: and gives me some good suggestions. On one end, I
- 6:04Speaker 1: think this gets a little bit to what I'm always
- 6:06Speaker 1: saying that I think therapy is mostly bogus. I'm not
- 6:09Speaker 1: one hundred percent against it. I got a guy I
- 6:11Speaker 1: talk to every week, so but ninety percent of it
- 6:14Speaker 1: is crap. It's either just like the most obvious thing
- 6:18Speaker 1: any human being would tell you if you ask them,
- 6:21Speaker 1: or it's just co signing your bullshit, as they say
- 6:23Speaker 1: in the therapy world of you come in and complain
- 6:26Speaker 1: and the therapist says, you're right, your sister is a witch?
- 6:30Speaker 1: You know, see you next week.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no kidding for the sake of the argument, though.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I mean, like, Judy and I have been married for
- 6:40Speaker 3: a very long time. We're gonna have our fortieth anniversary
- 6:43Speaker 3: next year. We were married when we were both eleven.
- 6:47Speaker 3: We had to get our grandparents' permission and get married,
- 6:49Speaker 3: or we were going to get our parents but they
- 6:50Speaker 3: were only seventeen. So anyway, that's how I've been married
- 6:53Speaker 3: for forty years, because I'm very young and vital. But anyway,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I could see saying, hey, what are some tips for
- 7:01Speaker 3: keeping a long term marriage fresh in middle age? In
- 7:08Speaker 3: the boudoir, You.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Got to bring it up.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Bigger is why I don't ask. This is why I
- 7:14Speaker 3: don't ask you, and I'm gonna ask. You know, the
- 7:17Speaker 3: chat GPT, and I'm sure good advice about alternate, Like
- 7:21Speaker 3: a friend of mine did this with an actual counselor
- 7:23Speaker 3: and suggested you alternate, you know, every week, every two
- 7:27Speaker 3: weeks you plan date night. Then then it's her turned
- 7:30Speaker 3: up stuff like that. I could see it generating some
- 7:32Speaker 3: good advice like that.
- 7:34Speaker 1: How does it not very quickly become I mean after
- 7:38Speaker 1: I have the right kind of guy. I don't know
- 7:39Speaker 1: that any guys that would ever do this, but living
- 7:42Speaker 1: in Davis, California, I do know guys that would do it.
- 7:46Speaker 1: She's using chat GPT for a response, then you're using
- 7:50Speaker 1: chat GPT for a response, and they're just talking to
- 7:52Speaker 1: each other. But that gets pretty weird pretty fast.
- 7:59Speaker 3: I don't no. I think it's in this scenario the
- 8:02Speaker 3: chat GPT wouldn't be like giving you all your words.
- 8:05Speaker 3: It would be helping you understand the guidelines for productive communication.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Here's the one.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Of course, this is all theoretical for me. I've never
- 8:13Speaker 3: tried it and probably won't, but I'm curious to know
- 8:16Speaker 3: how it actually fleshes out.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Here's the thing I'm certain of. If you can talk
- 8:21Speaker 1: to your chat GPT and get the feelings some of
- 8:26Speaker 1: these people seem to express that they're getting, you're obviously
- 8:32Speaker 1: less likely to talk to an actual human being, your
- 8:35Speaker 1: friend or your sister, or whoever it is you used
- 8:38Speaker 1: to talk to about these things. I keep presenting it
- 8:40Speaker 1: as a woman like, it's only a woman thing. But
- 8:44Speaker 1: isn't it just absolutely guaranteed to make less human inaction
- 8:50Speaker 1: interaction happen because now you don't have to take your
- 8:53Speaker 1: kind of troubling you wish you didn't have to tell
- 8:55Speaker 1: your friends about it, problems to them.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You just take it to chat GPT.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and you're not worried about it being repeated or
- 9:03Speaker 4: anything of that nature.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Ye.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Might it eliminate the sort of phony over expensive counseling
- 9:09Speaker 3: that you were talking about.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's that there's an upside that could happen. Maybe it does.
- 9:14Speaker 1: If I'm a just a medium grade I got a
- 9:17Speaker 1: one year degree therapist out there making good money on
- 9:20Speaker 1: giving people pretty obvious advice or code signing in the bullshit,
- 9:24Speaker 1: you might be out of work because chat GPT could
- 9:27Speaker 1: do that.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I could see, you know, sites developed that would you
- 9:33Speaker 3: know tout that, Hey, we scanned the best you know,
- 9:37Speaker 3: counseling information available. This is all we do is counseling.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You're not going to get weird you know, internet results
- 9:44Speaker 3: or whatever. Here we've compiled the database of blah blah
- 9:48Speaker 3: blah blah blah. I could see that being you know,
- 9:51Speaker 3: fairly valuable, I think again, depending how it actually works.
- 9:55Speaker 4: I also like that this cuts down on I don't
- 9:59Speaker 4: know if you've ever been in this situation, Jack, when
- 10:01Speaker 4: you're talking to somebody, but it's like you have that
- 10:03Speaker 4: thirty minute window or that hour window, and like in
- 10:06Speaker 4: the first ten you cover what's been bothering you, and
- 10:08Speaker 4: you're just kind of sitting there like, so, oh, how's
- 10:10Speaker 4: everything else? This kind of cuts all that crap out too, right.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I feel like there's good. I
- 10:17Speaker 1: haven't tried it either, so I suppose i'd have to
- 10:19Speaker 1: to know this, But I feel like chat GPT is
- 10:21Speaker 1: not gonna have any follow up questions where chat GPT,
- 10:24Speaker 1: where the therapist knows you, maybe if they've been working
- 10:27Speaker 1: you with you for a long time, knows you, knows
- 10:30Speaker 1: your tendencies, knows your strengths and weaknesses, and maybe asks
- 10:33Speaker 1: the kind of follow up question that chat GPT couldn't.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So you come in and you tell some story about
- 10:38Speaker 1: your husband being a you know, a jerk, and maybe
- 10:42Speaker 1: your therapist who knows you says, uh, well, you remember
- 10:46Speaker 1: last week when you bought that thing and he was
- 10:51Speaker 1: upset about it. He might still just be upset about that.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Like that's the sort of like in depth follow up.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I don't think you're going to get from an AI bot,
- 11:00Speaker 1: like understand your personality strengths and weaknesses.
- 11:03Speaker 3: You know, it's interesting. I was is this Google? Yeah?
- 11:06Speaker 3: I think this is Google. I got to change my
- 11:08Speaker 3: default search engine on my iPhone. I was just googling
- 11:13Speaker 3: how can I freshen up a long term marriage? There's
- 11:17Speaker 3: an ad for a counseling place.
- 11:19Speaker 1: A swing like you put it bolted into the ceiling.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, sex dungeon. Clearly, I want to get your wife back.
- 11:28Speaker 3: How to win your wife back? She hasn't left yet.
- 11:30Speaker 3: I just want to freshen it. Oh, there's focus on
- 11:33Speaker 3: the family, but that's sponsored too. It's Christian family counseling.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Give your partner grace, practice self care, connect in the bedroom.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Now we're talking, no, stop it with thatve wait a minute,
- 11:51Speaker 3: and this one she's already dating someone new. No, let's
- 11:56Speaker 3: beyond repair. Date night should be exciting and different rather
- 12:00Speaker 3: than the standard dinner in a movie. Oh thank you,
- 12:03Speaker 3: We never go to movie. Oh that's Cora. That's dumb.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So but it didn't even ask AI. Sometimes when you
- 12:11Speaker 3: search something on it, although I was just I just
- 12:16Speaker 3: like searched yesterday, when does Illinois play Kentucky in the
- 12:19Speaker 3: NCAA Men's basketball Tournament. It needed AI for that, but
- 12:23Speaker 3: for how do you freshen up a long term marriage?
- 12:25Speaker 3: It just sent me to kind of wrote results.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Right, So was that chat GPT specific that they were
- 12:33Speaker 4: talking to Is that what the most early?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:36Speaker 4: So I just went on and searched AI therapist, and
- 12:40Speaker 4: I am on a website called abby and it looks
- 12:43Speaker 4: like it's about to put me through. It said, we're
- 12:45Speaker 4: going to ask you some questions to know your algorithm.
- 12:47Speaker 4: And please know I've been trained on over seventy eight
- 12:49Speaker 4: hundred therapy books and research papers. I can I can
- 12:52Speaker 4: reference almost everything that's been written about therapy to help
- 12:56Speaker 4: you with whatever's bothering you.
- 12:57Speaker 1: You know, from that standpoint, as cynical as I am
- 13:00Speaker 1: about this that's got to be a more knowledgeable entity
- 13:04Speaker 1: than your average therapist you go to.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's now it's saying, let's customize your algorithm
- 13:10Speaker 4: to fit your goals in preferred style.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Hmmm.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I mean I'll try this like I'll try this with
- 13:19Speaker 1: my around my son, like a bunch of examples of
- 13:23Speaker 1: various things, and then say what should I do in
- 13:25Speaker 1: this situation and see what sort of advice I get? Yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 1: see if I think it's worth a damn or.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean in theory as always, instead of the
- 13:37Speaker 3: distilled knowledge of mankind coming to you through a dipshit
- 13:44Speaker 3: who couldn't make a living any other way, the therapist
- 13:47Speaker 3: you've just tired, which is not all therapists. There are
- 13:50Speaker 3: few that are fantastic plenty. And if if that's you,
- 13:53Speaker 3: that's what we're talking about, You're great. Don't bother with
- 13:56Speaker 3: your angry email. But instead of you know, having that
- 14:00Speaker 3: knowledge distilled and passed through that the aforementioned dipshit, you
- 14:05Speaker 3: have it through what is allegedly perhaps a neutral source
- 14:09Speaker 3: that won't filter it through their own life experience because
- 14:12Speaker 3: they secretly hate their father.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I'm going to play right this thing.
- 14:17Speaker 3: This is.
- 14:19Speaker 5: What she said, happy birthday, Happy birthday. That left my mouth.
- 14:24Speaker 5: That's my gift to you, Thank you, that's what she said. Also,
- 14:28Speaker 5: oh boy, so back to this, yeah what they said?
- 14:33Speaker 4: Yeah, uh, it's asking me, who do you want me
- 14:36Speaker 4: to be a professional therapist, an empathetic friend, a tough coach,
- 14:40Speaker 4: a mindfulness guru, problem solver, are a philosophical guide. So
- 14:45Speaker 4: it's kind of giving you, like asking kind of how
- 14:48Speaker 4: do you want me to flow with how you're talking
- 14:49Speaker 4: to me?
- 14:50Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, yeah, I'm warming to this.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah I am too, unfortunately.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And I don't know why that would be any different
- 14:58Speaker 1: than therapist shopping. Like I know some people do you
- 15:02Speaker 1: go to somebody that's like a little too much of
- 15:03Speaker 1: a heart ass, and you fire them and go on
- 15:05Speaker 1: to a next person until you find someone that's the
- 15:07Speaker 1: you know, a style you do want.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe you what's the name of this again?
- 15:11Speaker 2: This is called the abby abeef.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Humankind dot com right, that one.
- 15:18Speaker 3: I'm sorry AaB What Abby Abby? Oh? It's the abby thing? Yeah, yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 3: but I.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Mean it's really it's going in depth to find out
- 15:30Speaker 4: how I want them to act and like what kind
- 15:32Speaker 4: of you know, am I looking for clinical help?
- 15:35Speaker 2: Do I want cognitive behavioral help?
- 15:38Speaker 3: Wow? Yeah, Wow, I need to look into that for
- 15:41Speaker 3: one of my kids.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm intrigued. I am too, so I've been turned around.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I I don't mind this as much because it's I mean,
- 15:49Speaker 1: if you're willing to google and go to a legit
- 15:51Speaker 1: website and read about it and feel like you've done research,
- 15:54Speaker 1: this is just like boiling it down for you. It's
- 15:56Speaker 1: it's doing all the research and bring you the best stuff.
- 15:59Speaker 1: What I don't like is the idea of it giving
- 16:02Speaker 1: me advice on what I should be saying. That just
- 16:05Speaker 1: seems weird.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, feeding you lines is definitely crossing Allline a kitty.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Has it asked him for money yet?
- 16:14Speaker 2: No? Not yet. That's what I'm waiting for. But it
- 16:16Speaker 2: looks like I'm at the end of it. See.
- 16:19Speaker 4: What I want to know is if there's like a
- 16:20Speaker 4: free version of this where it's like, yeah, I will
- 16:22Speaker 4: kind of help you out, but like you said earlier,
- 16:24Speaker 4: for nine to ninety nine a month or does.
- 16:26Speaker 1: It hit on you at any point? Remember that thing
- 16:28Speaker 1: from the New York Times a year or so ago
- 16:30Speaker 1: were that was it a woman or a man? But anyway,
- 16:33Speaker 1: that chatbot suggested that they leave their house.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, start chatting. No, I was not asked for
- 16:41Speaker 4: a credit card. It's finalizing my personalized AI therapist. And
- 16:46Speaker 4: that looks like that's it.
- 16:47Speaker 1: How is it making any money? I don't know.
- 16:51Speaker 4: There's a lot of ads across the whole page, you know,
- 16:54Speaker 4: so maybe that's how they're doing right.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not finding it.
- 16:57Speaker 1: We'll also in the early days of this sort of stuff,
- 17:00Speaker 1: they just want to get you hooked on their product.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I mean, it's worth it'd be worth it to any
- 17:05Speaker 1: of these AI bots just to have you get in
- 17:06Speaker 1: the habit of using it. It'd be like I'm trying
- 17:09Speaker 1: to think of an example, but like you know, sometimes
- 17:12Speaker 1: when new products, they don't they don't charge very much
- 17:14Speaker 1: to get you started.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, what's the actual site?
- 17:18Speaker 2: It talk dot abby abby dot gg.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Got thisg what is that the.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Like the Georgie and Mafia or something North North Korea?
