- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, over
- 0:48Speaker 1: thirteen years strong. Got a great show coming your way
- 0:51Speaker 1: this week, as we get into the high cost of
- 0:55Speaker 1: youth athletics what it means for our kids' sports as
- 0:58Speaker 1: they continue.
- 0:59Speaker 2: To grow up.
- 1:00Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about the Philadelphia Phillies where they're at
- 1:03Speaker 1: right here in mid August. Also, the Philadelphia seventy six
- 1:06Speaker 1: Ers are opening the regular season against the New York Knicks.
- 1:09Speaker 1: They also played the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Gonna get into that schedule and what this Sixer season
- 1:15Speaker 1: is going to end up meaning. And there's a lot
- 1:18Speaker 1: of questions regarding this Eagles team on the offensive side
- 1:21Speaker 1: of the ball. Good stuff, good questions which we're gonna
- 1:25Speaker 1: get into.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And then what we're thrown down on the table.
- 1:27Speaker 1: This week, we got our good friend Joe da Leone
- 1:29Speaker 1: from The Raffino and Joe Show, great podcast. He's also
- 1:32Speaker 1: over at eight aes E sports dot Com. We're gonna
- 1:34Speaker 1: take a look at this upcoming college football season and
- 1:37Speaker 1: some storylines we're following. I'm Jeff Warren here at my
- 1:40Speaker 1: buddy Eric Leonard, known as on YouTube here the King,
- 1:45Speaker 1: How you doing, Buddy? Good to see it good?
- 1:47Speaker 3: As long as Lebron's in town, that's gonna be the
- 1:49Speaker 3: moniker here.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Absolutely, Look, I think they're you know, sports are always fluid,
- 1:55Speaker 1: especially here in the world of Philly sports.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Lennon and I were talking about it last week.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You know, three weeks ago, you're thinking, oh, my gosh,
- 2:01Speaker 1: what's going on in the city with the sports teams?
- 2:03Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, there's a trade deadline,
- 2:06Speaker 1: the Phillies get a spark with Luis Arise, and there
- 2:11Speaker 1: are good things happening in Eagles training camp. There's good
- 2:14Speaker 1: things happening with the Sixers, of course, and you're like, oh, okay, yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 1: are things are turning around?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Man? Things are always fluid in sports, man, It's just and.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I think being in the Philly sports scene, I think
- 2:24Speaker 1: we need to be grateful for it in different ways.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, because I can remember back many many seasons where
- 2:31Speaker 3: you know, at least two of the teams were just
- 2:33Speaker 3: not even worth discussing. So now it's like a year
- 2:36Speaker 3: long thing for all four teams. And I'm gonna give
- 2:39Speaker 3: you a little tutorial here.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Ari is Aris. Oh, it's not a rise. I still can't.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I can't pronounce names. I just can't do it correctly.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Listen, I have it in my notes here.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I actually have it spelled out how to pronounce it,
- 2:59Speaker 3: because I was saying it wrong too. I was saying
- 3:01Speaker 3: as at one point and oh God, what is it again,
- 3:05Speaker 3: Louise Arias?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Okay? Yeah, you know what?
- 3:09Speaker 1: I noticed that when John Staalmus was on the Table
- 3:12Speaker 1: Talk interview show this week, and I was like, Oh,
- 3:14Speaker 1: is he saying it incorrectly?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Or am I? And I'm like, why am I even
- 3:17Speaker 2: questioning this year?
- 3:19Speaker 3: It's it's up there with your joke it and every
- 3:22Speaker 3: time I see Giannis the porn star Giannis, yeah, or
- 3:28Speaker 3: the basketball player area.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Yes, that's my gosh.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Well, buddy, you were out in La man had with
- 3:33Speaker 1: your family, had a great time.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Uh you know any anything notable from the trip.
- 3:39Speaker 3: La is a gigantic city.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yes, I mean it's a big billy now.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I mean Philly's huge and it's spread out, but you
- 3:49Speaker 3: could legit walk it. And you know, a couple of days,
- 3:52Speaker 3: New York is its own thing. Yeah, but l A is.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I I just can't believe, Like, if you don't have
- 3:57Speaker 3: a car out there. That's one thing I did discuss
- 4:00Speaker 3: this pastime because I've been out there out there before.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I don't know how you even survive living there, like
- 4:05Speaker 3: you like you would just die at some point. So
- 4:09Speaker 3: much good food, A legit sports.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Town, I will say, yeah, I think l a is.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I'm just saying like it definitely gets that reputation of
- 4:19Speaker 3: like transplants and like you know, it's kind of a
- 4:22Speaker 3: fair weather fan kind of fan bases for their for
- 4:24Speaker 3: their teams. But now Dodgers gear everywhere, Lakers everywhere. Not
- 4:29Speaker 3: a single Clippers shirt or hat I saw, wouldn't expect,
- 4:33Speaker 3: didn't see a lot of rams, but and charges are larger,
- 4:37Speaker 3: charges are invisible. But huge soccer town too. And just
- 4:43Speaker 3: man a great city. And it's one of those two
- 4:46Speaker 3: where like you know in this area Central PA where
- 4:49Speaker 3: people are just very ignorant to most things, and especially cities.
- 4:54Speaker 3: You know, you mentioned I lived in Philly for eight
- 4:56Speaker 3: years and they're like, oh that dump, and it's like
- 4:58Speaker 3: it's not a time.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It's gorgeous.
- 4:59Speaker 3: It's a great city.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Of course, it's great.
- 5:02Speaker 3: La is just absolutely beautiful right like down to like
- 5:06Speaker 3: we stayed in Alhambra. We won't up to Malibu, which
- 5:09Speaker 3: is like mind blowing. All the beaches we went to
- 5:13Speaker 3: and every every part of the city we went to
- 5:15Speaker 3: was just gorgeous.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Nice.
- 5:17Speaker 3: It's a great city.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, glad you had a good vacation.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I am looking forward to a vacation at some point
- 5:22Speaker 1: in my life. Hopefully after November three. It'll be nice
- 5:25Speaker 1: to get away for a little bit. But in the meantime,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you know, we're still doing this podcast show, still talking
- 5:30Speaker 1: Philly sports sports world in general.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And to start off this show really with.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Some with with the content we wanted to dive into.
- 5:38Speaker 1: This week, saw a very interesting post that Jeff Pissan
- 5:43Speaker 1: was in about the high cost of youth athletics and
- 5:47Speaker 1: what it means for our kids' sports as they grow up.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And I thought it was an extremely eye opening discussion
- 5:55Speaker 1: that he was having. And yes, it was a very
- 5:57Speaker 1: very short, very short video, but we want to play
- 6:02Speaker 1: it here on the PST podcast show and respond to it.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Hopefully this is our first time trying to do some
- 6:08Speaker 1: video here you're seeing it on YouTube. Hopefully the audio
- 6:12Speaker 1: is going to be coming through because I put this
- 6:14Speaker 1: together pretty quick.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Hopefully you'll be able to hear this on the audio version.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I may have to do some stuff in posts, but
- 6:20Speaker 1: let's take a listen to Jeff Pizon talking about the
- 6:23Speaker 1: high cost of youth athletics and us parents kind of
- 6:25Speaker 1: needing to take it back.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Why aren't parents taking sports back to huge question? Yeah,
- 6:31Speaker 2: and it's not a rhetorical one either.
- 6:33Speaker 4: I'm honestly flabbergascid that all of us have allowed youth
- 6:38Speaker 4: sports hy it like children. We have allowed it to
- 6:42Speaker 4: become a business that consumes our lives and that guides
- 6:48Speaker 4: so many decisions that we make. How did we lose
- 6:51Speaker 4: the plot so badly that corporations that are making money
- 6:55Speaker 4: hand over fist us and our children are not only
- 7:00Speaker 4: doing that, but they're dog walking us at the same time,
- 7:03Speaker 4: and we're just marching along to it.
- 7:05Speaker 3: And I think some of.
- 7:06Speaker 4: It is like the desire to be good parents and
- 7:10Speaker 4: to give our children all the opportunity that we can.
- 7:13Speaker 4: But is this the right opportunity or is it just
- 7:15Speaker 4: the opportunity that we've been stuck with?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Is it hurting them?
- 7:18Speaker 5: At the same time, I completely agree, and I've been
- 7:21Speaker 5: a big proponent because I feel like now more than ever,
- 7:24Speaker 5: there's so many in my sport at least that there's
- 7:26Speaker 5: so many NBA dads that have kids that are playing.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I mean, I'll go to a term. I just saw
- 7:30Speaker 3: Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, you know, John wall Ye.
- 7:33Speaker 5: I feel like there's so many of us, Jamal Crawford
- 7:35Speaker 5: that could come together and try to let's try to
- 7:38Speaker 5: regulate this.
- 7:38Speaker 2: But it's just it's such a.
- 7:39Speaker 5: Big money thing now that as parents, we feel like
- 7:42Speaker 5: if our kids aren't involved in sports of their passion,
- 7:44Speaker 5: they're going to miss out on the opportunity.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Nobody has stepped up to fill that vacuument, and if
- 7:49Speaker 4: they did, I worry that all the companies that are
- 7:52Speaker 4: out there making this money would somehow have them shut up.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I agree.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Pretty interesting for sure. You know, we live.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It and we live within this. I guess I call
- 8:04Speaker 1: it a machine, Eric, the machine of what they were
- 8:08Speaker 1: just talking about, you know, corporations just making tons of
- 8:13Speaker 1: money off of youth sports. It's infiltrated parents' lives, families
- 8:18Speaker 1: lives in such a way where if you are not
- 8:22Speaker 1: there at the sports to Oh my god, I can't
- 8:24Speaker 1: believe I almost said sports table. Jesus, I didn't even
- 8:27Speaker 1: mean it. But if you're not there, whether it's high school,
- 8:31Speaker 1: whether it's middle school, to get your kids quote started
- 8:34Speaker 1: with whatever sport, even elementary school. I mean, our kids
- 8:37Speaker 1: have been doing their sports for so many years now
- 8:40Speaker 1: at this point where now that they're older, there's a
- 8:44Speaker 1: certain expectation and level that they're going to get to.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But the cost of getting there, man, And I really
- 8:52Speaker 1: I really didn't want I don't want this necessary to be.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Well back in my day, you know.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But more along the lines of where the industry is gone,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and again the machine that it actually is, and how
- 9:05Speaker 1: it's not really all that great for kids all the time,
- 9:09Speaker 1: not great for families necessarily, and from a cost perspective,
- 9:13Speaker 1: it hurts people, and it hurts people that can't afford
- 9:17Speaker 1: it too at the end of the day. So I
- 9:19Speaker 1: thought it was a really interesting video and interesting discussion
- 9:23Speaker 1: that those two gentlemen were having and wanted to bring
- 9:26Speaker 1: it up here on the show.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Do you have any thoughts, man, Yeah, definitely.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I mean I can speak directly to au basketball, yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 3: because I coach for three years and manage my team
- 9:37Speaker 3: and all the finances involved, Like I had to keep
- 9:40Speaker 3: my own books and everything, and.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Part of the machine, part of the machine.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I know, I'm a commie, so I hate it becoming
- 9:48Speaker 3: part of the machine. But you know it, we live
- 9:53Speaker 3: in a capitalist I'm not going to make this a
- 9:54Speaker 3: political thing, but like we do live in a capitalist country,
- 9:57Speaker 3: and everything eventually becomes a commodity. And you know, once
- 10:01Speaker 3: once once the club team a basketball, once that once
- 10:06Speaker 3: that environment became started to thrive, you know that that's
- 10:09Speaker 3: when that's when not corporations, but like you know that
- 10:13Speaker 3: that's when it got commodified, and that's when they that's
- 10:17Speaker 3: when they all you know, they became all these all
- 10:20Speaker 3: these groups became outside of youth sports, outside of school sports,
- 10:26Speaker 3: and became became their own thing, you know. And I
- 10:28Speaker 3: do understand, you know, going back to the eighties where
- 10:33Speaker 3: you know, there there were kids that were not going
- 10:35Speaker 3: to get discovered, you know, and and that that that
- 10:38Speaker 3: was just kind of the way it was. You've heard
- 10:39Speaker 3: all the stories of like playground legends in New York
- 10:43Speaker 3: who got overlooked, and I'm sure all all over the country.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I mean, just just go back and like there's a
- 10:50Speaker 3: documentary on the Houston University of Houston team from the
- 10:53Speaker 3: eighties where Akim Olajuwan basically had some college offers. He
- 10:58Speaker 3: was he was over in Africa, came over and he
- 11:01Speaker 3: asked a baggage handler at JFK, like, which of these
- 11:04Speaker 3: schools should I go to? And the guy was like, well,
- 11:07Speaker 3: I should go to this one because it's warmer. And
- 11:09Speaker 3: he wound up going to Houston and became a super
- 11:13Speaker 3: And then you think of the movie Blue Chips, right
- 11:15Speaker 3: where Nick Noldey's character has to take a boat to
- 11:18Speaker 3: like the far reaches of Louisiana and the swamps to
- 11:21Speaker 3: go see shack of all people like that doesn't happen anymore.
- 11:25Speaker 3: And you know, and I'm saying all that because the
- 11:29Speaker 3: upside of AU is that it brings on new competition
- 11:34Speaker 3: for players that want to go to the next level
- 11:37Speaker 3: and exposure out of all things, right now, that's the
- 11:39Speaker 3: big that's the big selling point.
- 11:40Speaker 2: And Amolte and I was part of that.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And even in my daughter's gymnastics by the way, we
- 11:46Speaker 1: get to AU in a second, but even my daughter's gymnastics,
- 11:49Speaker 1: my daughter came to me and said, Dad, she just
- 11:52Speaker 1: went to a place called International Gymnastics Camp up in
- 11:55Speaker 1: the Poconos, very well renowned throughout the world. There's people
- 11:57Speaker 1: there from other countries, other states as well. And she
- 12:01Speaker 1: came back and she's like that, I think I may
- 12:03Speaker 1: need to set up another Instagram account specifically for gymnastics
- 12:07Speaker 1: as she is looking to potentially get recruited at some
- 12:10Speaker 1: point because she is heading into her sophomore year. That's
- 12:14Speaker 1: the mentality, not not even mentality, but that's where the
- 12:16Speaker 1: industry is at. So I'm sorry I interrupted you in
- 12:18Speaker 1: terms of your AU experience, No, but.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I'll speak to that right now. Like, my my daughter
- 12:24Speaker 3: has like an Instagram account and a YouTube channel just
- 12:27Speaker 3: to kind of to promote her dance. Yeah, she's looking
- 12:30Speaker 3: to get exposure in that in that regard, and that's
- 12:32Speaker 3: the reason we wanted to LA is for a huge,
- 12:34Speaker 3: intensive and big things that that was exposure the business
- 12:43Speaker 3: side of dance and it was really helpful for her.
- 12:46Speaker 3: But it again it where where's the financial windfall go to?
- 12:53Speaker 3: Like where does that go to? And who has to
- 12:55Speaker 3: pay the price, And it's it's the parents. I was
- 12:58Speaker 3: lucky in AU basketball coach, so I don't have to
- 13:00Speaker 3: pay those fees. I had to pay for uniforms, but
- 13:03Speaker 3: I had to sign this stuff for tournaments, travel stuff
- 13:07Speaker 3: and uniforms, and like I saw what these parents were paying.
- 13:11Speaker 3: It's outrageous. And take that times one hundred two hundred
- 13:14Speaker 3: thousand across the country now and I'm sure it's it's
- 13:18Speaker 3: probably worse for baseball and hockey because the equipment football,
- 13:22Speaker 3: I'm sure is just as wild now. It does provide
- 13:25Speaker 3: you the opportunity to play year round, and these organizations
- 13:29Speaker 3: do promote the players within their organizations, especially AAU I
- 13:33Speaker 3: know of, and that's that's one of the upsides new
- 13:37Speaker 3: competition exposure. Because you play at the junior high, high
- 13:40Speaker 3: school level you play, I can speak to basketball, you
- 13:44Speaker 3: played probably eighteen to twenty teams that you played last
- 13:48Speaker 3: the year prior, right right right, whereas with here you're
- 13:50Speaker 3: playing teams from New York DC. These AU programs are
- 13:54Speaker 3: filming these filming these games and putting it out on
- 13:56Speaker 3: social media. But the thing that the thing drives me
- 14:00Speaker 3: crazy now is that we all have social media.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah, like kids.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I mean I follow some kids now from the from
- 14:07Speaker 3: the program I used to be in an AU and
- 14:10Speaker 3: they have their own Instagram accounts and those profiles get
- 14:12Speaker 3: boosted and unfortunately, and they talk about it and all
- 14:17Speaker 3: the smoke on the clip we just watched that all
- 14:20Speaker 3: of that financial burden falls on the families, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 3: the AU programs. I'm not sure where all the money goes.
- 14:28Speaker 3: I'm not I'm not even going to say which group
- 14:29Speaker 3: I was bard of because I don't know.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I don't want to.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I don't want to incite anything or us a tour
- 14:36Speaker 3: in anyway. But I know how much money was going
- 14:39Speaker 3: and how much money these tournament companies are. I mean,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I get emails from like ten of them a day,
- 14:46Speaker 3: and I still get even though I'm not doing it anymore.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I get them. I get them year round, saying hey
- 14:51Speaker 3: we got a tournament. It's only five hundred bucks. It's
- 14:53Speaker 3: in February, and I'm like, oh.
- 14:55Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 14:55Speaker 1: With the gymnastics scene our well, my my daughter's coach,
- 15:00Speaker 1: who's the owner of the facility, she's told us before
- 15:03Speaker 1: how much we're talking thousands and thousands of dollars to
- 15:08Speaker 1: just get them to get the gymnasts all from different
- 15:11Speaker 1: teams registered for a day or a weekend, I should say,
- 15:14Speaker 1: of competition. It's it's incredible. We're thousands of dollars. We're
- 15:19Speaker 1: talking like five thousand six thousand dollars even perhaps more
- 15:22Speaker 1: than that, depending on what the actual invitational is that
- 15:25Speaker 1: that they.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Would be going to. But man, it's it's really insane,
- 15:29Speaker 2: It really is.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It's insane the amount of money that us US parents
- 15:32Speaker 1: have to have to pay and have paid for years.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And you think about it and you're like, man, we
- 15:37Speaker 1: could have gone on a really nice vacation or.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Two this year.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And it's I've found that like vacations are now. I
- 15:48Speaker 3: mean when I was in basketball, vacations were wrapped around
- 15:51Speaker 3: or like revolved around a tournament.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I had to be like, well, we're going to know
- 15:55Speaker 3: she's sitting Maryland for a tournament. I guess what that
- 15:56Speaker 3: would be our vacation this year.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 3: And the thousands and thousands of dollars spent, don't wait,
- 16:02Speaker 3: don't outweigh the upside in my opinion. And unfortunately, it's
- 16:06Speaker 3: relegated youth sports, you know, your local youth sports programs
- 16:10Speaker 3: to just the minor leagues. Like I know many kids
- 16:14Speaker 3: and my son included when he was involved in AU,
- 16:16Speaker 3: we didn't do wreck basketball because I was already so
- 16:19Speaker 3: involved with AU and so was he that it just
- 16:22Speaker 3: it just made it there was no, there was no
- 16:23Speaker 3: point to it. And that's just less money for those programs,
- 16:27Speaker 3: and it just it just snowballs from there, and it
- 16:29Speaker 3: just imagine that across the country. And the sad thing
- 16:32Speaker 3: is the parents who think their kid cut could make it. Yes,
- 16:38Speaker 3: and they'll drop ten thousand dollars on a travel baseball team.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I was going to go there next, Yeah, and the kid.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Has no shot, And nobody wants to tell the parents
- 16:47Speaker 3: that because, believe me, those programs are not gonna be like, well,
- 16:51Speaker 3: I don't know if he's good enough. No, they pretty
- 16:53Speaker 3: much take everybody. I've only had to cut like three
- 16:55Speaker 3: kids in three seasons, and I'm sure that I'm sure
- 16:59Speaker 3: the program was not happy about that because that's money.
- 17:02Speaker 3: But I mean, I'm like, I can't take this kid
- 17:04Speaker 3: who can't ribbles left hand. We're playing teams get in Washington,
- 17:08Speaker 3: d C. I can't take a kid who can't dribble
- 17:10Speaker 3: with this right.
- 17:11Speaker 2: It's a joke.
- 17:12Speaker 3: But that's that's that's what's become. And it's it's sad
- 17:15Speaker 3: to see what's happened to youth sports because I mean,
- 17:18Speaker 3: you see this sign I see this sign up numbers,
- 17:21Speaker 3: and the financials involved with youth because I was also
- 17:23Speaker 3: involved with local youth sports. Yeah, and we got to
- 17:26Speaker 3: have like three Hogi fests a year just to make
- 17:29Speaker 3: enough money to get these crappy uniforms on these kids.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I never saw an order form. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 17:37Speaker 3: I'm not going to bother you with that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: It really is amazing. We'd love to hear from you
- 17:43Speaker 1: out there as well. Leave a comment below if you're
- 17:45Speaker 1: watching on YouTube youth sports, what it's meant to you
- 17:48Speaker 1: and your family. We'd love to read your comments and
- 17:51Speaker 1: and hear about your experiences as well. Feel free to
- 17:54Speaker 1: email at Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com.
- 17:57Speaker 2: We'd love to read your email here on the show
- 17:58Speaker 2: and respond to it. We are going to take a break.
- 18:00Speaker 1: When we get back, we're going to be diving into
- 18:03Speaker 1: some Phillies sports.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Stick with us. Let's now dive.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Into the Philadelphia Phillies. They made some moves at the
- 18:13Speaker 1: trade deadline, of course, Len and I got into that
- 18:16Speaker 1: last week. They're now what eight and a half games
- 18:19Speaker 1: nine perhaps at this point behind the Braves in the
- 18:22Speaker 1: NL East.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Going back and forth with the.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Padres at this point as to whether or not they're
- 18:26Speaker 1: even going to be in the third wild card spot
- 18:28Speaker 1: team's floundering. The sentiment of the fan base is that,
- 18:32Speaker 1: you know, this team is way too streaky, not enough consistency.
- 18:35Speaker 1: We're seeing it time and time again, game after game.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So we wanted to give our thoughts on what this
- 18:40Speaker 1: Phillies team is really going to need to do here
- 18:42Speaker 1: in August for a successful postseason run, if that can
- 18:45Speaker 1: even happen. And I don't believe at this point, even
- 18:50Speaker 1: though I do have some optimism because the team does
- 18:54Speaker 1: have talent, but it seems that there's one thing after another,
- 18:56Speaker 1: whether the bullpen implodes, whether it's Bryce Harperor not being
- 19:01Speaker 1: as healthy as we want him to be, whether it's
- 19:04Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber going three weeks without hitting a home run.
- 19:07Speaker 1: There is always something with this team that's putting up
- 19:10Speaker 1: some sort of roadblock. Eric and I just don't know
- 19:14Speaker 1: if this Phillies team is going to be able to
- 19:17Speaker 1: sustain any sort of consistency with productive baseball at all
- 19:22Speaker 1: for the remainder of this season to have a successful postseason.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Here in mid August, things are really tough for this team,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and I just can't see them getting any better, even
- 19:32Speaker 1: though I'm holding out hope because I know there is
- 19:34Speaker 1: talent on this team.
- 19:35Speaker 2: I don't know what have you been thinking about with this? Okay?
- 19:39Speaker 3: I was in La for that for a week just recently,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and which we talked about. And sorry, from the first
- 19:45Speaker 3: segment of I've seemed a little interrupted. My son was
- 19:49Speaker 3: right here off screen making faces at me because he
- 19:53Speaker 3: just got back from the gym, and I was I.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Was really trying to oh, I love it.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, so trying to make a good point
- 20:00Speaker 3: in this this jerk off, and I'm so okay, that's
- 20:06Speaker 3: what I want to ask you. I yeah, I'm out there.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I got my YouTube TV setup, so I watched all
- 20:11Speaker 3: the Phillies games, which why it was terrible, I know,
- 20:17Speaker 3: but man, the games are over by like six thirty,
- 20:19Speaker 3: and then you have your whole night, you know, you
- 20:22Speaker 3: have your whole night in front of you.
- 20:23Speaker 2: It's nice. Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I kind of enjoyed it, and I like, I like nice, yeah, because.
- 20:31Speaker 1: What's happening anymore for me when I'm as I'm a
- 20:35Speaker 1: forty nine year old man at this point, you are
- 20:36Speaker 1: going to be fifty very soon, my friend like within days.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Is that I get I'm getting tired, but I'm getting
- 20:47Speaker 1: pissed off tired watching.
- 20:49Speaker 2: The Phillies, and I don't like pissed off tired. Yeah,
- 20:52Speaker 2: it's the end of the game.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Somebody's blowing a save or they're just the bullpen's giving
- 20:57Speaker 1: up three or four runs, and I'm like, I have
- 21:00Speaker 1: invested this time in my night here, and this is
- 21:04Speaker 1: the garbage and crap that I'm not only feeling right now,
- 21:07Speaker 1: but I'm also feeling.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Tired because this boy has been working all day long.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So it's I wish we had the games that would
- 21:15Speaker 1: end up like six thirty for sure.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I'm telling you, it was so nice. And the first
- 21:19Speaker 3: night I was like, this kind of sucks. I have
- 21:21Speaker 3: nothing else to watch at six thirty. But then one
- 21:24Speaker 3: I thinks about la there's so much good food everywhere. Yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 3: we were in a section where there was just amazing
- 21:30Speaker 3: Thai food and and and Korean food just all over
- 21:34Speaker 3: the place. And the game's over six thirty. I'm pissed off.
- 21:37Speaker 3: It's like, well, let me go eat one of the
- 21:38Speaker 3: best meals I ever had my life. Yeah, to forget
- 21:41Speaker 3: about that shit Phillies game. I just wanted to ask
- 21:44Speaker 3: that as put that to you, what are my thoughts
- 21:48Speaker 3: on the Phillies right now. So you talk about being streaky,
- 21:52Speaker 3: and the downside of being streaky is, you know, the
- 21:56Speaker 3: rise in the fall and when do you do it.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And we've watched this team throughout the years rise at
- 22:02Speaker 3: the right time and then downfall downside at the wrong time.
- 22:06Speaker 3: And this this is screaming of they're gonna rise in
- 22:10Speaker 3: mid August, They're going to make a run, and we're
- 22:12Speaker 3: gonna be really excited. And then you know, around mid September,
- 22:16Speaker 3: all of a sudden, Chorber hasn't hit a home run
- 22:18Speaker 3: in ten games, Harper's Harper's tweaked a hammy or something.
- 22:23Speaker 2: That's what it feels like, Yeah, that's gonna happen.
- 22:25Speaker 3: So I mean, and we must be a curse because
- 22:30Speaker 3: we talked about Luis Ariez, right and I'm looking at
- 22:36Speaker 3: his stats here. Since he joined the Phillies, he's batting
- 22:39Speaker 3: two hundred. Since he joined the Phillies, he's eight hits
- 22:41Speaker 3: and forty at bats, five sixty four ops, with an
- 22:44Speaker 3: offensive war of negative point two. With the Giants, he played,
- 22:48Speaker 3: he made the All Star team, and he never struck out,
- 22:51Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, he joins this club and
- 22:53Speaker 3: he had a great first game, hasn't done much since then.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Now he hasn't had much help around him in the lineup,
- 22:58Speaker 3: right Alec Baum, of course, my favorite Philly, our first
- 23:02Speaker 3: basement by the way, who sucks defensively. He's batting two
- 23:06Speaker 3: thirty one on the season, six fifty three oh ps. Still,
- 23:09Speaker 3: this is after what six seasons in the major leagues
- 23:12Speaker 3: with the Phillies, and he has a war this year
- 23:14Speaker 3: of minus one point one. Now I'm not a stat heead,
- 23:17Speaker 3: but that means I could probably put be put in
- 23:20Speaker 3: at first base, as I'm going to be fifty in
- 23:23Speaker 3: four days, right he, I would be potentially statistically speaking,
- 23:29Speaker 3: a better replacement at this point than Alec Baum is
- 23:33Speaker 3: at first base.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 3: It's not good cinnamon stick legs at all. Yeah, and
- 23:37Speaker 3: he has cinema stick legs. But he's also like he's
- 23:39Speaker 3: also jacked. So whatever. Defensively, they're a mess. We knew that,
- 23:43Speaker 3: we knew what the infield shift was going to happen.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Defensively was going was gonna suck. Harper's had some rough
- 23:48Speaker 3: spots in right field, but even the starting pitching, like
- 23:53Speaker 3: since the all start break, you know, Wheeler's given up
- 23:55Speaker 3: thirteen earn runs in his last four starts. Crazy Nol
- 23:59Speaker 3: just can continue to be a complete disaster. Painters still
- 24:02Speaker 3: a mystery. He had a good outing against the Orioles, and.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Yeah, he actually had like three decent outings, and those
- 24:08Speaker 1: three outings since he also break coming back, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 1: two point two four e R A I think, not
- 24:14Speaker 1: not bad or two point six four e R something
- 24:16Speaker 1: like that.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Well, and unfortunately, with Don Browski not making a move
- 24:19Speaker 3: at starting pitcher, we're banking on him possibly being our
- 24:22Speaker 3: fourth best starter because Nola Nola is just a mess.
- 24:27Speaker 3: And then you talk about the bullpen. You know, Killian's
- 24:29Speaker 3: already on the I L Yeah, we just picked him
- 24:32Speaker 3: socks and and and Raley in four appearances has a
- 24:36Speaker 3: four or five o e ra. Since joining the team
- 24:38Speaker 3: with the Mets, he had a one point nine oh
- 24:40Speaker 3: e ra. H. Either he's a double agent or he's
- 24:45Speaker 3: just he's just getting his feet wet with the club.
- 24:47Speaker 3: So I man it, I'm I'm I am absolutely thinking
- 24:52Speaker 3: this team is going to peak again starting in like
- 24:55Speaker 3: mid April, well soon mixt sorry, mid mid April, like
- 25:00Speaker 3: mid August, maybe next week, and then they're gonna be
- 25:03Speaker 3: right in the hunt, they're going to get into the
- 25:05Speaker 3: wild card and just kind of just kind of fizzle
- 25:08Speaker 3: out early in the playoffs. Because that's what this that's
- 25:11Speaker 3: how this team is set up. They're older, and they
- 25:14Speaker 3: keep they keep streaking, you know, to use the term
- 25:17Speaker 3: you used in this segment, they keep streaking at the
- 25:19Speaker 3: wrong time.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Absolutely, there's no consistency at all with this team. And
- 25:24Speaker 1: I think that's something we're gonna we're gonna see. We're
- 25:26Speaker 1: gonna see streakiness, good streakiness like you're talking about at
- 25:30Speaker 1: some point here in August. Good streakiness, and then it's
- 25:34Speaker 1: gonna just fizzle out. I mean, it's this, it's the
- 25:36Speaker 1: same ingredients that we have and it's the same and
- 25:40Speaker 1: even though I have some.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Bit of hope and optimism left.
- 25:44Speaker 1: So let us know what you're thinking, folks, Philadelphia Sportstable
- 25:46Speaker 1: at gmail dot com, shoot us off an email, let
- 25:49Speaker 1: us know what you're thinking about this. We are going
- 25:50Speaker 1: to take another break here when we get back and
- 25:52Speaker 1: talk some Sixers and some Eagles.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Stick with us, all right.
- 25:58Speaker 1: The Philadelphia seventies Sixers are going to be opening the
- 26:01Speaker 1: regular season against the New York Knicks.
- 26:04Speaker 2: My god, what a game. That is going to be.
- 26:07Speaker 1: They also play the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day. Buddy,
- 26:12Speaker 1: I I cannot wait for the opening of the regular
- 26:17Speaker 1: season against the New York Knicks, the reigning NBA champions.
- 26:20Speaker 2: As much as it hurts me to say.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That, but this season is going to be one hell
- 26:27Speaker 1: of a show in terms of professional basketball, and we're
- 26:30Speaker 1: gonna get it, like right out of the gate with
- 26:33Speaker 1: that regular season opener.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Man, I can't wait for it.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I mean, they're they're in the big time now. And
- 26:40Speaker 3: after Jalen Brown or they got j I think I
- 26:42Speaker 3: got Jayalen Brown. They were already going to be on
- 26:44Speaker 3: national TV, eleftn right. Getting a Lebron it just puts
- 26:49Speaker 3: it in the stratosphere, right, Yeah, I mean the four
- 26:52Speaker 3: finalists in last year's playoffs, you know, Knicks, Calves, OKAC, Spurs,
- 26:58Speaker 3: the Caves have been ta aside as a as a
- 27:01Speaker 3: national team, and the Sixers have easily replaced them with
- 27:05Speaker 3: the moves they made.
- 27:06Speaker 2: And as a long long.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Time Sixers fan praying for a title hopefully in the
- 27:11Speaker 3: next two years, I am so thrilled to have a
- 27:17Speaker 3: national team like this. I think they flirted with it
- 27:20Speaker 3: before the twenty nineteen twenty twenty season, after they they
- 27:23Speaker 3: lost to the Raptors in the second round and a heartbreaker.
- 27:27Speaker 3: They were going to be one of those like top four,
- 27:29Speaker 3: top five teams nationally, they were going to be on
- 27:31Speaker 3: TV all the time, and then COVID hits there's no
- 27:33Speaker 3: freaking basketball unfortunately. So this is like, this is probably
- 27:38Speaker 3: their biggest ascent into the national spotlight since probably two
- 27:44Speaker 3: thousand and two, after this, after they made the finals
- 27:47Speaker 3: with Iversince got decades jesus, I mean I I was
- 27:51Speaker 3: half my age at the point, right so, and you know,
- 27:56Speaker 3: anybody who doesn't like this, the Spike askings, whatever, I don't.
- 27:59Speaker 3: I don't care, Like this is awesome, having a team
- 28:02Speaker 3: that is thrust into the spotlight like this.
- 28:04Speaker 2: How the fu can you not like this? I'm sorry?
- 28:06Speaker 1: How like this is amazing? Jerk offs? How the fuck
- 28:10Speaker 1: can you not like this? Talking about the How can
- 28:15Speaker 1: I be so cynical in such a good thing that's
- 28:19Speaker 1: in front of us?
- 28:20Speaker 2: That's what we're seeing with these jerk offs. I cannot
- 28:24Speaker 2: stand these people.
- 28:25Speaker 3: They're the ultimate Like I need attention so bad.
- 28:30Speaker 2: My mommy didn't hook me enough.
- 28:31Speaker 3: And it's like the al is shore parts of the world,
- 28:34Speaker 3: and your Spike Eskins and your Marcus Hayses, like, those
- 28:37Speaker 3: are the people that have about Nagadelphia. Those ares that
- 28:41Speaker 3: that make it like we bitch about our teams on
- 28:44Speaker 3: this on this show. Yeah, but those types of people
- 28:46Speaker 3: are the ones that just make me sick to my
- 28:47Speaker 3: stomach and ruin the reputation of fans. So I love this,
- 28:52Speaker 3: this is happening. And one one, just one quick thought
- 28:55Speaker 3: is that you know you got two young guys. I
- 28:57Speaker 3: still consider Maxie young guy. He's he's he was second
- 29:00Speaker 3: team All NBA. He's a superstar, but he's still really young.
- 29:04Speaker 3: And I love that they have him and VJ. Like
- 29:07Speaker 3: embiid Lebron and Jalen Brown, they're used to the spotlight.
- 29:11Speaker 3: You know, there's multiple titles across well two of them
- 29:14Speaker 3: not not. But I love that VJ and Maxie seem
- 29:19Speaker 3: like they're gonna like they're gonna relish the spotlight like
- 29:22Speaker 3: I can't. I can't see either of them shying away
- 29:27Speaker 3: from it, especially Edgecombe. He seems like a totally ready
- 29:31Speaker 3: for it and a killer on top of that, like
- 29:33Speaker 3: he is, he's busting his ass. You watch his Instagram stuff,
- 29:37Speaker 3: it doesn't come off like Ben Simmons for for all
- 29:39Speaker 3: the years on this he's like Ben Simmons, jumper looks
- 29:42Speaker 3: like it's a problem this time. No, it's not. It
- 29:44Speaker 3: was never a problem. It's broken. It's always been broken, right.
- 29:49Speaker 3: But I liked that they have two young guys that
- 29:51Speaker 3: are gonna be I think they are going to take
- 29:53Speaker 3: the reins and be like, this is awesome. We we
- 29:55Speaker 3: love this and it's gonna help them financially, but also
- 29:58Speaker 3: just I think they want that pressure and I love
- 30:01Speaker 3: that we have a team.
- 30:03Speaker 1: The makeup of the team is ready for this. I
- 30:07Speaker 1: don't know which podcast it was. I'm trying to remember
- 30:10Speaker 1: right now forgetting what podcast it was.
- 30:12Speaker 3: MAXI was just on it. He was talking about Vj's
- 30:15Speaker 3: role this year.
- 30:16Speaker 1: He said he was talking about, you know, years ago
- 30:19Speaker 1: when James Harden came in, and he was like, oh,
- 30:21Speaker 1: it's cool that Harden's here, but what's my role going
- 30:24Speaker 1: to be?
- 30:24Speaker 2: And he's like, I.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Want to make sure that VJ knows that he's going
- 30:29Speaker 1: to have a role. It's not just going to be
- 30:31Speaker 1: scoring four points a night, that he is going to
- 30:33Speaker 1: have a significant role in this offense and with this
- 30:36Speaker 1: team and he's not going to have anything.
- 30:38Speaker 2: To worry about.
- 30:39Speaker 1: And I just I just love that MAXI is there
- 30:41Speaker 1: to not only say that, but I know that that's
- 30:44Speaker 1: what's going to be implemented that.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Like you said, we are going to see VJ. And
- 30:47Speaker 3: he's going to be an extremely important part of this
- 30:50Speaker 3: twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven team and in
- 30:52Speaker 3: the future as well, he is going to be I mean,
- 30:56Speaker 3: just just name me a five or six hole hitter
- 30:58Speaker 3: in baseball that got every pitch he saw. I'm sorry,
- 31:02Speaker 3: like a that because there's someone behind him, Like yeah,
- 31:05Speaker 3: like Chase Sutley always got pitches because you know, uh
- 31:09Speaker 3: Ryan Howard was behind him in his prime. Yeah, VJ
- 31:11Speaker 3: is gonna get wide open shots, wide open takes. He's
- 31:16Speaker 3: gonna have so many backdoor cuts. With an absolute basketball
- 31:19Speaker 3: genius out there in Lebron James and a great passer,
- 31:23Speaker 3: he is gonna, he is gonna he's actually gonna succeed
- 31:26Speaker 3: in this in the in in this situation. But besides
- 31:30Speaker 3: being he's probably gonna be our best wing defender besides
- 31:33Speaker 3: Jalen Brown. Right, and not to mention, he also played
- 31:35Speaker 3: like forty minutes a game. Last year. He's very durable, right,
- 31:38Speaker 3: you know, in ninety five percent at a time, you know, talent,
- 31:41Speaker 3: talent outweighs. That talent comes through. And if he's out
- 31:44Speaker 3: there thirty six minutes a game like he was that
- 31:47Speaker 3: this past season, his defense and all the pressure being
- 31:51Speaker 3: on those other four, it's gonna come out in points, rebounds.
- 31:56Speaker 3: He's going to have some highlights you've never seen before.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Is some insane passes from Lebron, you know, from the
- 32:02Speaker 3: high posts. Whatever I think VJ is going to be,
- 32:06Speaker 3: I've heard the same. I've heard the narrative too, like
- 32:08Speaker 3: he's only gonna average twelve points. Again, I don't see
- 32:10Speaker 3: that at all. Yeah, way, I don't think so. I
- 32:12Speaker 3: don't think so at all.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Lots of optimism, Lots of optimism of course for this
- 32:16Speaker 1: upcoming six er season, and as we transition now over
- 32:20Speaker 1: to the Philadelphia Eagles, lots of optimism as well about
- 32:24Speaker 1: this Eagles new offense. How Jalen Hurts may be flourishing
- 32:28Speaker 1: within this new sewn Manions system. I do wonder though
- 32:32Speaker 1: at times that I could, because we do this in
- 32:34Speaker 1: the world of Philly sports, Eric, we get really hyped
- 32:37Speaker 1: up on new stuff, new shiny objects all the time, and.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Rightfully so we get hyped up. You know, last year's
- 32:44Speaker 2: offense was horrendous.
- 32:46Speaker 1: The Philadelphia Eagles did not perform well offensively last year
- 32:50Speaker 1: where they should have been with the talent that was
- 32:51Speaker 1: on this team. Poor offensive coordinator guy really didn't know
- 32:55Speaker 1: what he was doing and did not use the talent
- 32:59Speaker 1: on the team on offense to their fullest potential. This
- 33:02Speaker 1: year seems like a different story. The hype is absolutely there,
- 33:07Speaker 1: and Jalen Hurts and Sean Manyon are are just meshing
- 33:10Speaker 1: from the reports. Jalen Hurts actually looks faster, He actually
- 33:14Speaker 1: looks more fluid right now. Looks at our good friend
- 33:17Speaker 1: Ed Kratz, who was on the show last week says
- 33:20Speaker 1: he actually looks lighter as well, which is helping in
- 33:23Speaker 1: terms of his athleticism that he already has. But again,
- 33:26Speaker 1: like I'm wondering if this is way too much hype
- 33:28Speaker 1: for us here.
- 33:29Speaker 2: As you know, we're.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Looking at the first preseason game this Saturday, and hopefully
- 33:35Speaker 1: injury bug does not hit this team. But I don't know, man,
- 33:38Speaker 1: I feel like I'm buying into this hype surrounding this
- 33:42Speaker 1: offense based on the reports.
- 33:43Speaker 2: What everybody's saying.
- 33:44Speaker 1: You watch the practices and clips on Twitter or Instagram
- 33:48Speaker 1: and it's like, I am, I'm here for this, So
- 33:51Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 33:52Speaker 2: I just wonder if this hype is real or not.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Are you feeling the hype here?
- 33:56Speaker 3: I definitely am. This is probably the most talented roster
- 33:59Speaker 3: since the Super Ball team. Yeah yeah, top the bottom again,
- 34:03Speaker 3: health to the offensive line is huge, and this is
- 34:05Speaker 3: probably Lane Johnson's last year, so let's let's let's hope
- 34:09Speaker 3: he goes out with you know, on a high note.
- 34:14Speaker 3: But you know, all the pressures on on hurts. You
- 34:17Speaker 3: know that, whether he likes it or not, the narrative
- 34:19Speaker 3: in the media is this is your team. Now you
- 34:23Speaker 3: traded a G Brown away. There was some kind of
- 34:26Speaker 3: rift between you two and I may not be true,
- 34:29Speaker 3: but that's just the way. That's the narrative that's out there.
- 34:31Speaker 3: And all the pressures on him to succeed. And I
- 34:36Speaker 3: have seen some stuff on social media like it highlights
- 34:40Speaker 3: of him you know so far and and uh in camp,
- 34:43Speaker 3: you know, the passes are too quick. They're trying to
- 34:45Speaker 3: make this too easy for him, Like what is he
- 34:48Speaker 3: hiding or what are they hiding? Because all these passes
- 34:50Speaker 3: are so fast, we're trying to get the ball of
- 34:52Speaker 3: his hands so he doesn't have to make decisions. It's like, now,
- 34:54Speaker 3: I think that's just the offense, And that's exactly that's
- 34:57Speaker 3: kind of what the offense was prior, mixed in with
- 35:01Speaker 3: some long balls because you had two phenomenal receivers on
- 35:04Speaker 3: both ends. I just think offensively they're they're super duper
- 35:08Speaker 3: talented at receiver as well. This time around, they don't
- 35:11Speaker 3: have the aj Brown long ball guy, but they have
- 35:13Speaker 3: Devonte Smith, who's definitely a one. They have a cavalcadid receivers.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Mkay Lemon is going to be huge, and hopefully Barkley
- 35:23Speaker 3: has a bounce back season.
- 35:24Speaker 2: But I also think, you know, it's funny.
- 35:26Speaker 3: I can't remember we called the offensive coording of poopoo holes.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I don't remember his actual name. That's how bad he was.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Kevin Patulo, Yeah, sure, yes, but I was sitting here
- 35:37Speaker 3: going I was going to say his name, but like,
- 35:38Speaker 3: I don't remember it, so we'll just go with poopo holes.
- 35:42Speaker 3: You know, the Negadelphian me has just got to say,
- 35:45Speaker 3: like this man, you can't be any worse, right, and
- 35:49Speaker 3: just from like what I've heard so far out of camp,
- 35:51Speaker 3: it just sounds like it's a much better situation just
- 35:55Speaker 3: for the offense alone. Defensively, My god, this team think
- 36:00Speaker 3: they're they're they're they're they're ready to like have another
- 36:03Speaker 3: breakout season. Yeah, it was a little shaky last year
- 36:06Speaker 3: at times, but also the offense wasn't doing shit. So
- 36:09Speaker 3: I just want to say, though, whoever in the Eagle
- 36:12Speaker 3: social media team or staff posted a recent instagram of.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Hurtz throwing the interception, Yeah, like, what the hell was that?
- 36:22Speaker 5: Like?
- 36:22Speaker 2: Fantastic?
- 36:24Speaker 3: Again, the narrative across the national media is like, Jalen
- 36:28Speaker 3: Are we sure Jalen Hurts is good? I've seen him
- 36:31Speaker 3: ranked as low as like ten to twelve?
- 36:33Speaker 2: Or is that or is it a Quinon Mitchell highlight?
- 36:36Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 36:37Speaker 3: But I'm thinking, like, couldn't you have gotten a Quinon
- 36:40Speaker 3: Mitchell interception on the backup and not.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Our starting quarterback.
- 36:44Speaker 3: It was a little bit in the haze of like
- 36:47Speaker 3: is he good or not? Speak across the media, kudos
- 36:51Speaker 3: to him for getting it on there. I just think
- 36:52Speaker 3: it's kind of funny. I'm sure at some point he
- 36:54Speaker 3: had answer to somebody like what are you doing like what?
- 36:59Speaker 2: I love the Eagles social media team.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I actually watched some like documentary, like a real short
- 37:04Speaker 1: documentary on what their day is like a day in
- 37:06Speaker 1: the life of the social media team, and it was
- 37:08Speaker 1: really interesting to see what they do during the course
- 37:11Speaker 1: of the day. It's nice say, I'm sure it's not
- 37:13Speaker 1: easy at all, but yeah, I'm buying the hype for sure.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Are you buying the hype? Folks?
- 37:18Speaker 1: Leave us a comment below? You buying the hype with
- 37:20Speaker 1: this Eagles offense even the defense Thereic was talking about
- 37:22Speaker 1: as well. Would love to hear from you, buddy. I'm
- 37:26Speaker 1: gonna let you go, and then we're gonna get into
- 37:27Speaker 1: some college football talk. You want to stick around for
- 37:29Speaker 1: the college football talk, I.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Don't care.
- 37:33Speaker 1: If you said about Penn State. I'm in okay, Yeah, well,
- 37:37Speaker 1: we're not going to really get into Penn Stated. It's
- 37:39Speaker 1: some big ten talk. We did Penn State a couple
- 37:41Speaker 1: of weeks ago. I know, I know, all right, Any
- 37:46Speaker 1: final thoughts here before I let you go, Bud.
- 37:48Speaker 3: I think what I'm gonna do. I just thought of
- 37:50Speaker 3: this now. I think I'm gonna watch the Phillies game
- 37:52Speaker 3: the next day at o'clock, So I'll be done at six, okay,
- 37:59Speaker 3: and then I'll have a whole night in.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Front of me. There you go.
- 38:02Speaker 1: But you're not gonna need Are you gonna look at
- 38:03Speaker 1: what the score was prior to watching?
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 38:06Speaker 3: I probably will by accident, so it be kind of useless, right, Yeah, exactly.
- 38:08Speaker 3: I haven't thought this through.
- 38:11Speaker 2: That's what I'm here for, Bud, help you out.
- 38:15Speaker 3: I'm almost fifty, Jeff, I'm forgetting things already.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, get that ARP card out.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Oh it came to me in the mail like two
- 38:22Speaker 3: weeks ago. It was such a blummer man.
- 38:26Speaker 2: All Right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go. Folks. We're
- 38:28Speaker 2: gonna take a break when we get back.
- 38:29Speaker 1: A lot of college football talk and storylines that we're
- 38:32Speaker 1: gonna be following during this upcoming.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Season and now on the table.
- 38:41Speaker 1: The college football season is right around the corner. I
- 38:44Speaker 1: cannot wait to have college football on my screens, and
- 38:47Speaker 1: I know a lot of folks out there in the
- 38:48Speaker 1: PSD world cannot wait for the college football season to
- 38:51Speaker 1: get here as well.
- 38:53Speaker 2: We have From A to Z Sports.
- 38:55Speaker 1: He does a lot of scouting over there, follows the
- 38:58Speaker 1: NFL college football as well, and also if you have
- 39:01Speaker 1: not heard of the Rafino and Joe Show, great podcast,
- 39:05Speaker 1: our good friend, Joe Dalleone, my friend, thanks so much
- 39:07Speaker 1: for jumping on here.
- 39:09Speaker 6: Yeah, it's always a great time of year when we're
- 39:11Speaker 6: a few weeks away from the season. It's kind of
- 39:13Speaker 6: like yes, Christmas Eve for me mentally, I'm fired up
- 39:16Speaker 6: the season's almost here.
- 39:18Speaker 1: I am fired up to see what some of this
- 39:20Speaker 1: talent is going to do this season in college football.
- 39:22Speaker 1: It seems like every year, Joe, the level of talent
- 39:26Speaker 1: just it goes higher and higher and higher, and we're
- 39:29Speaker 1: going to see a lot of it. We're going to
- 39:30Speaker 1: see it from I think the QB position. We're going
- 39:33Speaker 1: to see it from wide receivers, running backs, defensive line,
- 39:36Speaker 1: offensive line as well. So we're going to get into
- 39:38Speaker 1: some teams here, but we're also going to get into
- 39:41Speaker 1: some of the talent. I wanted to start off with
- 39:42Speaker 1: the quarterback position in terms of what we're going to
- 39:44Speaker 1: see this college football season, and all eyes are certainly
- 39:48Speaker 1: going to be on Arch Manning down in Texas. He's
- 39:52Speaker 1: certainly gotten some hype here and there, and he's certainly
- 39:54Speaker 1: hyping himself up recently as well. I just wonder based
- 39:59Speaker 1: on what we seen from him short sample size, of course,
- 40:02Speaker 1: but is he actually going to be the real deal?
- 40:05Speaker 1: Because like the pressure is on he's a manning the
- 40:07Speaker 1: pressure is on him. Is he going to be the
- 40:09Speaker 1: real deal? In your opinion?
- 40:11Speaker 6: I think that he is, and I think that last season,
- 40:14Speaker 6: at the very end of the year, we got a
- 40:15Speaker 6: glimpse of what he was capable of becoming. The beginning
- 40:18Speaker 6: of the year, the tribulations and struggles that he went through,
- 40:21Speaker 6: I think are ultimately going to help him become a
- 40:23Speaker 6: better player. A lot of times, these big name guys
- 40:26Speaker 6: that step into big programs, they have an easy path.
- 40:30Speaker 6: They've got a good offensive line, they've got plenty of weapons.
- 40:33Speaker 6: The beginning of the year, they don't face very many
- 40:35Speaker 6: tough teams, so naturally they're able to just build up
- 40:38Speaker 6: their confidence and move on from there. In the minute
- 40:41Speaker 6: that they get punched in the mouth, sometimes they don't
- 40:43Speaker 6: always know how to respond. I think that Arch is
- 40:46Speaker 6: as dangerous as he could be because he learned how
- 40:49Speaker 6: to work through confidence issues and when there's situations where
- 40:55Speaker 6: the team around him is not fully equipped to support
- 40:57Speaker 6: him and he has to do more than a quarter
- 41:00Speaker 6: might typically need to do. I think that just overall,
- 41:03Speaker 6: he's a premier athlete. He's a pretty natural player. He's
- 41:06Speaker 6: got a really natural arm. I think with the tandem
- 41:09Speaker 6: of cam Coleman Ryan Wingo, he's gonna have a lot
- 41:12Speaker 6: of big plays to create in the past game.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Not to mention the fact, I think your.
- 41:15Speaker 6: Offensive line is gonna be a lot better with some
- 41:17Speaker 6: reshuffling in the addition of Melvinciani, who could be a
- 41:20Speaker 6: top fifty pick in this upcoming.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Draft, right.
- 41:23Speaker 1: I think he certainly is going to develop even more
- 41:26Speaker 1: as a quarterback this coming season. Again, like you talked about,
- 41:29Speaker 1: the offensive line, I think is going to be really
- 41:31Speaker 1: key for that development for him. But when we also
- 41:34Speaker 1: take a look to moving on from arch Manning here
- 41:37Speaker 1: in terms of quarterbacks and other quarterback prospects heading into
- 41:42Speaker 1: this season outside of arch Manning that really could be
- 41:44Speaker 1: that next pretty good pro quarterback in the NFL. Are
- 41:49Speaker 1: there some guys that you're really looking at, Guys we
- 41:51Speaker 1: really need to keep in mind, and even if there
- 41:53Speaker 1: are some guys who are kind of under the radar
- 41:54Speaker 1: that really aren't you getting the attention at this point
- 41:57Speaker 1: here in August of twenty twenty six that we should
- 41:59Speaker 1: be concentrating on. What are your thoughts here in terms
- 42:02Speaker 1: of other quarterback prospects we need to keep our eyes on.
- 42:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that there's one player that is locked
- 42:08Speaker 6: into probably being a top ten player, not locked in,
- 42:11Speaker 6: but is an easy understanding before the season of where
- 42:14Speaker 6: he's going to fit in the in the quarterback class
- 42:17Speaker 6: unless he has something, you know, disastrous performance. Dante more
- 42:20Speaker 6: from Moregan was regarded as a likely top two pick,
- 42:23Speaker 6: had declared last draft and he decided to go back
- 42:26Speaker 6: to school. His profile is understood by the NFL. He's
- 42:31Speaker 6: very CJ. Stroudish and kind of the way that he
- 42:33Speaker 6: plays where he's got are like a laid back demeanor,
- 42:37Speaker 6: but he's got like a really smooth throwing motion. Everything
- 42:40Speaker 6: just feels really simple for him as a prospect. But
- 42:43Speaker 6: there's this large group of guys that I think that
- 42:47Speaker 6: a number of them could emerge as starters in the NFL,
- 42:51Speaker 6: And depending on what happens this year, I'm sure most
- 42:53Speaker 6: will fall off like we typically get. But this group
- 42:56Speaker 6: has so many more options than we've had over the
- 42:58Speaker 6: past couple of years. It starts with Leonora Sellers from
- 43:01Speaker 6: South Carolina, who was a big name going into the
- 43:04Speaker 6: season but had a bit of a disappointing year. Drew Mastamaker,
- 43:06Speaker 6: the North Texas, Oklahoma State kid, is big, strong, he's
- 43:11Speaker 6: got a powerful arm.
- 43:12Speaker 2: I think that he's gonna have a lot of attention.
- 43:14Speaker 1: CJ.
- 43:14Speaker 6: Carr from Notre Dame if he chose to declaire, has
- 43:17Speaker 6: a lot of NFL folks that love him. I think
- 43:20Speaker 6: that you could throw in there, Darien Mensa from Miami,
- 43:23Speaker 6: who's got a chance to put up some gaudy stats
- 43:25Speaker 6: in the offense that he's going to be playing in,
- 43:26Speaker 6: as well as Jane Mayava, who is the number one
- 43:29Speaker 6: most efficient quarterback in the country a year ago in
- 43:32Speaker 6: ePaper dropback.
- 43:33Speaker 2: He has to be brought up.
- 43:34Speaker 6: In the mix as well, and then we could kind
- 43:36Speaker 6: of move down the list a little bit more with
- 43:39Speaker 6: some outliers. I think Turnindad Chambliss is pretty interesting to discuss,
- 43:43Speaker 6: and Sam Levitt as well, who Chambless a lot more
- 43:47Speaker 6: successful and has a lot more of a background of
- 43:50Speaker 6: big game performances, but is a bit undersized. And Levitt's
- 43:53Speaker 6: a wildcard because he's all over the place. He's just
- 43:55Speaker 6: got a lot of work that he needs to do
- 43:57Speaker 6: in his first year in Lane Kiffit's offense.
- 44:00Speaker 1: It's a really great segue in terms of Lane Kiffin's offense,
- 44:03Speaker 1: because look, I'm not and there's a lot of people
- 44:06Speaker 1: that aren't Lane Kiffen fans out there for various reasons.
- 44:10Speaker 1: But I think it is safe to say that arguably
- 44:14Speaker 1: LSU basically won the off season at this point, and
- 44:19Speaker 1: I think the real question is will this pay dividends
- 44:22Speaker 1: this coming fall.
- 44:23Speaker 2: You just talked about quarterback position.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I wonder from a defensive perspective, what we're gonna end
- 44:27Speaker 1: up seeing from this team and from this unit as well,
- 44:31Speaker 1: how they're gonna fare in the SEC. What are your
- 44:33Speaker 1: thoughts here on Lane Kiffen and this LSU team that,
- 44:36Speaker 1: like I said, basically did a fantastic job during the
- 44:38Speaker 1: off season, But is it gonna pay dividends?
- 44:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 44:41Speaker 6: I think that. I think that this Kiffin team, he
- 44:45Speaker 6: did a really good job of being aggressive in the
- 44:47Speaker 6: transfer portal and trying to go after as many players
- 44:52Speaker 6: as possible to like really build a big roster first
- 44:54Speaker 6: first upcoming year. I actually think that it's not hyperbolic
- 44:57Speaker 6: to say that this is the best roster that Kiffen
- 45:00Speaker 6: has ever.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Had as a hit coach.
- 45:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that Yep, what he has on both
- 45:04Speaker 6: lines of scrimmage has just a lot of gifted players
- 45:07Speaker 6: that could go on to become top fifty selections in
- 45:09Speaker 6: the upcoming draft.
- 45:11Speaker 2: But with that being said, though I'm not.
- 45:13Speaker 6: Putting crazy high expectations on what this team does.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I think they're going to be nine to three.
- 45:17Speaker 6: I think that Kiffin is good enough of a coach
- 45:20Speaker 6: to activate this team where they're competitive, where they steal
- 45:22Speaker 6: a game maybe against Alabama at home later on in
- 45:25Speaker 6: the year. But I think that there's naturally going to
- 45:28Speaker 6: be limitations with trying to build a culture in your one.
- 45:30Speaker 6: It is always going to be tough trying to build
- 45:33Speaker 6: that culture. So I'm kind of giving it a little
- 45:35Speaker 6: bit of time before we see what LSU can capably
- 45:40Speaker 6: be before we jumped any conclusions that they have to
- 45:42Speaker 6: win right off the bat.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I love that you mentioned the culture aspect of what
- 45:46Speaker 1: LSU may or may not become, because when it comes
- 45:48Speaker 1: to Lane Kiffin, and again, like I don't want to
- 45:50Speaker 1: pile on the guy, like I said, I'm not a
- 45:51Speaker 1: fan of him and how he handles himself and has
- 45:55Speaker 1: handled himself, throughout his career, but from a culture standpoint,
- 45:58Speaker 1: it just seems like a hit or miss when it
- 46:00Speaker 1: comes to Lane Kiffin, Like he could be very divisive,
- 46:03Speaker 1: and I wonder what type of culture he's gonna end
- 46:05Speaker 1: up bringing to LSU. I mean, what are your thoughts
- 46:07Speaker 1: on how that culture could manifest itself and could there
- 46:11Speaker 1: be any divisional based aspects of what he's trying to
- 46:14Speaker 1: do that could that could kind of tank what they
- 46:16Speaker 1: want to do down at LSU.
- 46:18Speaker 6: Well, I'm I'm not super worried about like him not
- 46:21Speaker 6: being able to build that culture because I think that
- 46:23Speaker 6: he built a winning culture at ole Miss and he
- 46:26Speaker 6: showed that with a program that he's that's historically not
- 46:29Speaker 6: very good, he is capable of, you know, building and
- 46:33Speaker 6: developing a roster that can win a lot of games.
- 46:36Speaker 6: I think that by year two is probably going to
- 46:40Speaker 6: be when we see the real returns and how good
- 46:43Speaker 6: LSU can be. I just don't think that we should
- 46:46Speaker 6: be expecting that it's a national title or bust, despite
- 46:48Speaker 6: a lot of people putting that projection on this LSU team.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Okay, very good, folks.
- 46:53Speaker 1: We're going to take a break here and when we
- 46:54Speaker 1: get back, we're going to be talking a lot more
- 46:56Speaker 1: about the Big Ten. We're going to get into some
- 46:58Speaker 1: Big Ten teams. We're also gonna talk about Oklahoma and
- 47:02Speaker 1: what we may expect.
- 47:03Speaker 2: From the Sooners this coming season. Stick around. We'll be
- 47:06Speaker 2: back in just a bit, all right.
- 47:09Speaker 1: We are back with our buddy Joe da Leone from
- 47:12Speaker 1: The Raffino and Joe Show.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Great podcast, folks.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Also, he does a lot of great workover at a
- 47:18Speaker 1: to z sportsato z sports dot com. Check out everything
- 47:21Speaker 1: they have going on over there. And where can folks
- 47:23Speaker 1: find you on the interwebs out there if they want
- 47:24Speaker 1: to connect with you.
- 47:25Speaker 6: Joe, Yeah, you can find me at Joe Delei on Twitter, Instagram,
- 47:29Speaker 6: TikTok and again Rafina and Joe Show part of twenty
- 47:31Speaker 6: four to seven Sports. You can find that on YouTube.
- 47:34Speaker 6: We're dropping lots of content for the seasons.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, Seriously, you guys do a fantastic job. Always
- 47:39Speaker 1: love watching some of your segments that you're putting up
- 47:41Speaker 1: on Twitter and do a great job.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Do a great job.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Love it so look you Recently we're talking about a
- 47:49Speaker 1: specific team on The Raffino and Joe Show and how
- 47:52Speaker 1: they may surprise us this season.
- 47:54Speaker 2: The Oklahoma Sooners.
- 47:55Speaker 1: And you indicated that you know the vibe is that
- 47:59Speaker 1: they are very under aided of course heading into this season.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Can you talk about, Joe, what we should be expecting
- 48:05Speaker 1: from Oklahoma this year, maybe why they're underrated, why you
- 48:09Speaker 1: have those vibes and those feelings heading into this season.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Would love to hear your thoughts on Oklahoma here.
- 48:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that for some reason they're just not
- 48:18Speaker 6: getting brought up as a team that should be at
- 48:20Speaker 6: the top of the conference. Their win total seven and
- 48:22Speaker 6: a half, which is absurdly low for a team's good
- 48:25Speaker 6: and then then now they have a really tough schedule.
- 48:26Speaker 6: But the big reason why I like them, I think
- 48:27Speaker 6: they have the best defense in the SEC. I think
- 48:29Speaker 6: Brent Vinnibles has shown that he's coaching that unit up
- 48:32Speaker 6: to be the best defense in the SEC, and.
- 48:34Speaker 2: A lot of my faith in them.
- 48:35Speaker 6: Hinges On hope that John Mattier ends up improving after
- 48:40Speaker 6: last season. His confidence felt like it was shot. He
- 48:42Speaker 6: hand was destroyed, and his accuracy suffered. And naturally, when
- 48:46Speaker 6: you're worried about where the ball is going to go
- 48:48Speaker 6: because your accuracy is disrupted, you're going to make poor decisions.
- 48:53Speaker 2: On the field.
- 48:53Speaker 6: I also don't think that he was the same had
- 48:55Speaker 6: the same impact as a runner, and it's very clear
- 48:57Speaker 6: that there's been a deliberate attention to him booth up
- 49:00Speaker 6: and adding to his frame. So yeah, I really think
- 49:02Speaker 6: that Matier is going to end up bouncing back enough
- 49:08Speaker 6: that this Oklahoma team is a playoff team, and they're
- 49:10Speaker 6: the one team that I keep bringing up if there's
- 49:13Speaker 6: a Miami or in Ohio state this year that doesn't
- 49:16Speaker 6: go to their conference championship game and goes on a
- 49:19Speaker 6: run and gets to the national championship, I think that
- 49:21Speaker 6: it's going to be Oklahoma because they're just built front
- 49:24Speaker 6: to back along both lines of scrimmage to get that done.
- 49:27Speaker 2: I would agree.
- 49:27Speaker 1: I would agree with you too, Like you said, one
- 49:29Speaker 1: of the best defenses probably in the SEC, if not
- 49:32Speaker 1: the best defense in the SEC. There's absolutely something to
- 49:36Speaker 1: be said for that, and I think that defense is
- 49:38Speaker 1: really going to keep them in games and in fact
- 49:39Speaker 1: probably win them some.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Games here and there.
- 49:42Speaker 1: But moving on here with our conversation, of course, I'm
- 49:46Speaker 1: a huge Penn State fan, and I'm thinking that this
- 49:49Speaker 1: season they're going to fare much better this year with
- 49:51Speaker 1: a very favorable schedule, new coach to start this new
- 49:55Speaker 1: era of Penn State football, and it makes me think
- 49:58Speaker 1: of what the Big Ten is going to be as
- 50:01Speaker 1: we look forward to this season here, and I wonder
- 50:03Speaker 1: what we're going to see from Michigan within this Big
- 50:05Speaker 1: Ten conference here, Joe, because you know, they have the talent.
- 50:10Speaker 1: If I'm being objective, and I never want to ever,
- 50:12Speaker 1: you know, talk well of Michigan being a Penn State fan,
- 50:16Speaker 1: but look, they have the talent. But I'm wondering if
- 50:20Speaker 1: they are going to be able to get into the
- 50:22Speaker 1: College Football playoff. What are your thoughts here on what
- 50:25Speaker 1: Michigan can or maybe cannot do this season.
- 50:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not ready to jump to them being a
- 50:29Speaker 6: playoff team because I think that naturally there's been enough
- 50:32Speaker 6: turmoil this offseason in turnover that is going to hold
- 50:36Speaker 6: them back. I think that Underwood is going to improve.
- 50:38Speaker 6: I think that Jason Beck, the offensive coordinator, is going
- 50:40Speaker 6: to get a lot out of him. I think he's
- 50:42Speaker 6: one of the most creative, unique play callers in college football.
- 50:45Speaker 6: And the fact that he's got save On Hider and
- 50:46Speaker 6: Jordan Marshall to work with. We're going to see ungodly
- 50:50Speaker 6: rushing totals from this team. But I do think that
- 50:54Speaker 6: there's a big leap that needs to come from Underwood.
- 50:56Speaker 6: When you're dealing with the distractions and you're this star
- 50:59Speaker 6: of the team, you don't really have the proper normal
- 51:03Speaker 6: offseason too, I think, like, really focus on your growth
- 51:05Speaker 6: as a player. I think it may be he's not stunted,
- 51:08Speaker 6: but doesn't lead to the full jump that we're hoping for.
- 51:11Speaker 2: And I think naturally, just with.
- 51:12Speaker 6: His team losing some key pieces, with the whole Sharon
- 51:15Speaker 6: Moore ordeal that went down, I think, and also the
- 51:18Speaker 6: war of manual circumstance, I think that those distractions are
- 51:22Speaker 6: enough that Michigan is more of an eight and four team.
- 51:25Speaker 6: Maybe they go nine to three and another team that
- 51:28Speaker 6: I think is more equipped for a big run in
- 51:30Speaker 6: twenty twenty seven.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Yep, all right, very good.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Well, before I let you go, there's another big ten
- 51:35Speaker 1: team that I wanted to talk about, because, look, I
- 51:38Speaker 1: do wonder if USC is finally poised to make their
- 51:42Speaker 1: first appearance in the college football playoff. Lincoln Riley has
- 51:45Speaker 1: certainly built a really good team. And we talked about
- 51:49Speaker 1: culture earlier with link Kiffin, but from a culture standpoint,
- 51:51Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley really building that culture out at USC and
- 51:56Speaker 1: I'm wondering if they're also going to be able to
- 51:58Speaker 1: compete for a potential play off spot this year.
- 52:02Speaker 2: I know, what are your thoughts here? To close this out?
- 52:05Speaker 6: US is the other team that I keep bringing up
- 52:07Speaker 6: as a team that I think is a sleeper, the
- 52:10Speaker 6: dark horse to win the title or get to a
- 52:12Speaker 6: national championship, kind of similar a lot of things they
- 52:14Speaker 6: talked about with Oklahoma, where they're just really built to
- 52:19Speaker 6: be able to do, you know, to to stun people
- 52:22Speaker 6: in the Big Ten. Their offensive line is one of
- 52:24Speaker 6: the best country, which is unexpected. I think people really
- 52:27Speaker 6: realize that. I really like Elijah Paige. I think he's
- 52:29Speaker 6: going to be a first round pick potentially at tackle.
- 52:31Speaker 6: I think that their receiving corps is going to be
- 52:34Speaker 6: just as explosive. They're running back tandem with King Miller
- 52:37Speaker 6: and with waym and Jordan is one of the better
- 52:41Speaker 6: tandems in the Big Ten. Defensively, they're a lot more
- 52:45Speaker 6: physical upfront than they've been in the past. And I
- 52:48Speaker 6: think that Gary Patterson is gonna be a really good coach.
- 52:50Speaker 6: I think he's gonna be able to activate this team,
- 52:52Speaker 6: being a former longtime successful head coach TCU and also
- 52:56Speaker 6: an innovator defensively.
- 52:57Speaker 2: But the biggest reason why I.
- 52:59Speaker 6: Like this team is that you've got Janmaiyava coming back
- 53:03Speaker 6: another year in the system.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Had a big leap last year.
- 53:05Speaker 6: He was the most efficient quarterback in the country, number
- 53:08Speaker 6: one in e paper dropback, and I think that having
- 53:12Speaker 6: that success is going to really really help, you know,
- 53:17Speaker 6: the USC's ability to legitimately, you know, be able to
- 53:22Speaker 6: win the Big ten and maybe at least get you
- 53:24Speaker 6: ten and two and be consistent enough to the point
- 53:27Speaker 6: where they're banging on that door and maybe they put
- 53:30Speaker 6: together a little bit of a run.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think it's Penn State's most difficult game on
- 53:35Speaker 1: the schedule for sure. USC They're definitely going to be
- 53:38Speaker 1: making some waves this year in the world of college football. Again, folks,
