- 1:15during open play? The answer is the penalty area.
- 1:22Often called the 18 yard box, it stretches 18 yards from the goal
- 1:27line into the field and across the width near the goal.

- 1:35rules as field players. Let's try a timing rule that
- 1:39catches many players by surprise.
- 1:41Question two What is the maximum time a goalkeeper can hold the
- 1:45ball with their hands before releasing it?
- 1:52The answer is 8 seconds. After gaining control, the
- 1:56keeper should release the ball within 8 seconds to keep the

- 2:09the ball back to the goalkeeper, can the keeper pick it up with
- 2:12their hands? The answer is no.
- 2:19Since 1992, the back pass rule says a keeper may not handle a
- 2:23deliberate kick from a teammate's foot.
- 2:26Doing so results in an indirect free kick for the other team
- 2:29from the spot of the handling. Let's talk uniforms.
- 2:33Question 4. What jersey number is
- 2:35traditionally worn by a team's first choice goalkeeper?
- 2:43The answer is #1 While players can wear many numbers in modern
- 2:47soccer, number one is the classic choice for goalkeepers.
- 2:51It helps fans and teammates quickly identify the starting
- 2:55keeper. Shut the door on this next one.
- 2:58Question 5. What is it called when a
- 3:01goalkeeper and defense allows zero goals in a match?
- 3:09The answer is a clean sheet. Some leagues also say shut out,
- 3:13especially in North America. Clean sheets are a key statistic
- 3:17for goalkeepers and often used to judge consistency across the
- 3:21season. Now for a famous award, question

- 3:28win the Balon Daior and in what year did it happen?

- 5:41close and is still cited as one of the most active goalkeeping
- 5:44displays in World Cup history. That save total remains a
- 5:49tournament record for a single match.
- 5:51Let's check a gear question. Question 11.
- 5:54Are goalkeepers required by the laws of the game to wear gloves?
- 6:02The answer is no, gloves are not required.
- 6:06Most keepers choose to wear gloves for grip and protection,
- 6:09but it is not a rule. The only uniform requirement is
- 6:13that the goalkeeper's colors must be different from the other
- 6:16players and the referee. Penalty kicks are tense moments,
- 6:20so the rules are strict. Question 12.
- 6:23Add a penalty kick. Where must a goalkeeper's feet
- 6:26be positioned at the moment the kick is taken?
- 6:33The answer is that at least one foot must be on or in line with
- 6:37the goal line when the ball is kicked.
- 6:39This rule helps keepers start fairly without stepping forward
- 6:42early. Video review can check this in
- 6:45competitions that use it now, a style of play many fans notice.
