- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Bailey. I'm the vocalist for Gravemind. We're
- 0:04Speaker 1: playing at the upcoming Necrosonic Festival on the twenty sixth
- 0:08Speaker 1: of August and we're very very keen.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Fantastic mate, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:13Speaker 3: No worries, thanks having me, no, so.
- 0:15Speaker 2: You stay make Gravemind.
- 0:16Speaker 4: I headed to Brisbane suretly to play at Necrosonic Festival
- 0:19Speaker 4: at the Mentor of Tubment on August to twenty second.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Not far away now, bro, Like, how part do I am?
- 0:24Speaker 3: No? No, We're getting pretty pumped.
- 0:27Speaker 1: So we've been booking in heaps of practices now and
- 0:30Speaker 1: getting our sets sorted out so that we're as ready
- 0:32Speaker 1: as we can be for the show.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Yeah. Nice, And it's gonna be a first time playing
- 0:37Speaker 4: in bris Vegas since September last year.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Mate, So what's changed with the bands then?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Look, not too much as has changed in regards to
- 0:47Speaker 1: like what we're doing and our members and things like that.
- 0:51Speaker 1: But we're very excited to get back up to Brisbane.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Brisbane's one of my favorite states to play in, so
- 0:58Speaker 1: I myself, I know I am very keen to get
- 1:00Speaker 1: back up there and get get.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Out of this cold Melbourne weather. Ah bet it's been terrible.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been nice up here, made nice and nice
- 1:10Speaker 2: and sunny and bright.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I'm so jealous.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Scotty is going to be massive.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Bro, You've got bands like Rivers and Ryles Thai Chropnic
- 1:19Speaker 4: they're both co headlining.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Then that is deserveless aggression. How I'm Dreampillow's fights ups
- 1:23Speaker 2: and so lift goes on made. But where do you
- 1:26Speaker 2: think Graveminds slot in with the whole lineup?
- 1:29Speaker 1: I think, look, with our most recent stuff, I think
- 1:33Speaker 1: we go maybe a bit a bit more modern than
- 1:36Speaker 1: a lot of the bands that to be on the
- 1:37Speaker 1: line up, but we to combat that, we've kind of
- 1:41Speaker 1: curated a bit of an older set list with a
- 1:44Speaker 1: lot of our older songs that are more technical and
- 1:47Speaker 1: like death Cory in a sense. So we kind of
- 1:50Speaker 1: want to try and fit in as much as we can,
- 1:53Speaker 1: especially so that we can satisfy the crowd that's there
- 1:56Speaker 1: as well.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Yeah, well, who you're most looking forward to seeing is
- 1:59Speaker 4: any out on your bucket list playing?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Honestly, I'm keen to see Rivers of nil. I've known
- 2:06Speaker 1: about them for a long time and listened to them
- 2:08Speaker 1: here and there, and I know how big they are,
- 2:11Speaker 1: and just I mean just in general, the whole lineup
- 2:16Speaker 1: is so stacked with just like generations of talent. I
- 2:19Speaker 1: think it's just going to be like an incredible day
- 2:22Speaker 1: just to be there and just to witness all of it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Have you ever played it or been you Necrosonic?
- 2:29Speaker 1: No, I haven't been to all played a necrosnic, but
- 2:32Speaker 1: I have played at the Mansfield Tavern quite some time ago.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I think it was for a.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Halloween hysteria or something like that, but I remember the
- 2:42Speaker 1: venue being really cool.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And what are you expecting from it then, bro, for
- 2:46Speaker 2: your first time?
- 2:48Speaker 3: I'm not too sure to be honest.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I mean there's there's so many bands and a lot
- 2:53Speaker 1: of them, like I said, are so talented, and I'm
- 2:59Speaker 1: just expecting to see lots of lots of happy faces
- 3:02Speaker 1: and lots of energy and hopefully just everyone just having
- 3:07Speaker 1: a good time.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Well, there's quite a few festivals gone round at the
- 3:10Speaker 4: way we've made I think Necrosoon is probably one of
- 3:12Speaker 4: the only ones that is truly a heavy festival, Like
- 3:15Speaker 4: there's no sort of light and shade is just heavy
- 3:18Speaker 4: all the way through. Like how important is it for
- 3:21Speaker 4: the Australian music scene or the heavy music scene in particular,
- 3:24Speaker 4: to have a festival like that where it is just
- 3:26Speaker 4: dedicated to that music.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's it's super important because you know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: with music like this, the heavier you get, the more
- 3:35Speaker 1: niche it gets, and the less attention that you get.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So having something like this with a showcase of new
- 3:45Speaker 1: bands and old bands that are doing you know, kind
- 3:48Speaker 1: of similar things, I think it's just important to show
- 3:51Speaker 1: that contrast, and also for like these bands to be
- 3:56Speaker 1: able to share stages with bands that have done it
- 4:00Speaker 1: for and just to like witness that experience. I think
- 4:07Speaker 1: like just events like this in general are super important
- 4:11Speaker 1: to keep going, just to get the community involved and
- 4:17Speaker 1: get as many bands names out there as possible.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think about festival bros, like there are
- 4:23Speaker 4: usually a lot of people there, but the crowd is
- 4:25Speaker 4: usually so unpredictable because they're covering such a cross section.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Like what's your battle plan to sort of make sure
- 4:31Speaker 4: you're graving from the start and keep them interested.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I think just coming out the gate with as much
- 4:36Speaker 1: energy as possible. We're starting off the set with an
- 4:40Speaker 1: old one that is very high energy, which should should
- 4:45Speaker 1: get the people go.
- 4:46Speaker 3: And I hope.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah, just say someone's coming along and they've never heard
- 4:50Speaker 4: of Grave Mind before. What three songs are yours would.
- 4:52Speaker 2: You recommend they listened to in order to get to
- 4:54Speaker 2: know the band a bit better.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I think the best songs to listen to to get
- 4:59Speaker 1: to know us a probably Vulgan, I would say Death
- 5:06Speaker 1: Touch as another and a third one far I'm gonna
- 5:13Speaker 1: say reading Steiner, which is off the Conduit album. I'm
- 5:18Speaker 1: watching Stein's Gate, which is the anime that that song's
- 5:23Speaker 1: based off of, and I'm like super into it right now.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But I think that kind of shows like an array
- 5:29Speaker 1: of what we can do, Vulgan being just like pedal
- 5:34Speaker 1: to the metal, death Touch having kind of like a
- 5:38Speaker 1: melodic metalcore kind of feel, and Steiner being like a
- 5:43Speaker 1: lot softer in that regard.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Nice, And your last album Interest Fhere came out in.
- 5:49Speaker 4: August twenty twenty four, so surely you've been working on
- 5:51Speaker 4: some new material for us.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yes, yes, we should have a song out by the
- 5:57Speaker 1: end of the year, accompanying a video also, but where
- 6:02Speaker 1: we're also in the process of just writing as much
- 6:06Speaker 1: as we can.
- 6:08Speaker 3: We don't have a like a locked in plan or anything.
- 6:12Speaker 1: We kind of want to steer towards the older gravemind
- 6:18Speaker 1: sound if we can, and kind of go with like
- 6:22Speaker 1: a conceptual storytelling kind of thing. So we've been been
- 6:26Speaker 1: digging into that and trying to trying to like create
- 6:31Speaker 1: do world building in a sense, and just make it
- 6:35Speaker 1: as cool and epic as we think it can be.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually raise a good point.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Man, Like every band, not just yourselves, but you've got
- 6:43Speaker 4: your fans that like the early material, like to say,
- 6:45Speaker 4: trying to write in that direction, but you're also picking.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Up new fans along the way with what you are doing.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So when you write a new album, like how do you.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Find that balance between not pissing off the old school
- 6:56Speaker 4: and not alienating the new ones.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think, Look, I think a lot of it is
- 7:03Speaker 1: like almost not thinking about it because at the end
- 7:06Speaker 1: of the day, like you are just making music yourself,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and I know I want to be making music that
- 7:12Speaker 1: I would like want to put on and listen to.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So I think with the direction that we want to go,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think it's a lot more suited to what our
- 7:23Speaker 1: preferences are in our listening habits and things that we
- 7:27Speaker 1: think are cool.
- 7:29Speaker 3: So and we just kind of hope that everyone digs
- 7:32Speaker 3: it as well.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I suppose you put too much pressure on yourself if
- 7:35Speaker 4: you do try and think it through too much NYA.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's exactly right.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And I think you know, if you get caught up
- 7:41Speaker 1: in that battle of like, oh what if people aren't
- 7:43Speaker 1: going to like this, it's just going to push you
- 7:46Speaker 1: down and make you think negatively about your own music
- 7:50Speaker 1: that you're making. And at the end of the day,
- 7:52Speaker 1: it shouldn't be about that. It should be, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: making the music that you're proud to put out.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah, well share brother, no next year, the Grave, Mind
- 8:01Speaker 2: the Plane.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I bought Healthfest too, with Parkway Drive, Amity Fiction, Buy
- 8:05Speaker 4: Out His Murder, Red Oral, Oash, and Grave, and a
- 8:06Speaker 4: stack of others. Right, I think that's on the open
- 8:09Speaker 4: seas with a stack of metal bands made.
- 8:11Speaker 2: What could go wrong?
- 8:12Speaker 3: I mean, the ocean is my biggest fear of all times.
- 8:17Speaker 1: So I'm like partially petrified as well as extremely excited,
- 8:22Speaker 1: just like what it was such a crazy opportunity for
- 8:28Speaker 1: that to be presented to us, and we just immediately
- 8:31Speaker 1: said yes and yeah, we're We were just only upset
- 8:35Speaker 1: that it was so far away.
