- 0:00Ezekiel chapter 27 First, let's pray.
- 0:04Dear Lord, please bring things to mind as I read through this
- 0:11and help me to not talk about things in the wrong direction.
- 0:16This there's a lot of things that are not clear in this
- 0:21chapter and and we need guidance from you.
- 0:26We need guidance from the Holy Spirit and wisdom to understand
- 0:30what's written here because there are various
- 0:32interpretations and I know we probably won't get it all right,
- 0:36but we need, we need you to understand what's written here.
- 0:39So I ask that you bring thoughts to mind and scripture to mind,
- 0:46most importantly, scripture to mind to back up anything that I
- 0:49say. And as we go through this
- 0:53chapter, I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
- 0:57So this chapter I, I want to cover both chapters because they
- 1:01somewhat relate to one another. 27 and 28.
- 1:04We'll see where we go. I will read through this first
- 1:07and I guess comment along the way.
- 1:09Read this study Bibles, questions and answers.
- 1:14Then I'll get into all the research stuff that I did.
- 1:17And there may be 3 or 4 podcasts with this depending on how long
- 1:20it gets. So this is about element over
- 1:24tire. The word of the Lord came to me,
- 1:28Son of man, take up a lament concerning Tyre, say to Tyre,
- 1:33situated at the gateway to the sea, merchant of peoples on many
- 1:39coasts. This is what the Sovereign Lord
- 1:41says. You say, Tyre, I am perfect in
- 1:45beauty. Your domain on the high seas,
- 1:49Your domain was on the high seas.
- 1:51Your builders brought your beauty to perfection.
- 1:55They made all your Timbers of juniper from Senir.
- 1:59They took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you of oaks
- 2:05from Bashan. They made your oars.
- 2:09So that is Syria today. So of oaks from Syria today.
- 2:13They made your oars of Cypress wood from the coast of Cyprus.
- 2:18Turkey occupied this area. They made your deck adorned with
- 2:23ivory. Fine embroidered linen from
- 2:26Egypt was your sail and served as your banner.
- 2:30Your awnings were of blue and purple from the coast of
- 2:35Elishesh. Men of Saidan and Arvad were
- 2:39your oarsmen. That refers to Lebanon and
- 2:42Syria. Your skilled mentire were aboard
- 2:47as your sailors, veteran Craftsman of Byblos were on
- 2:51board. So that's an area north of a
- 2:53modern day area north of Beirut. As shipwrights to caulk your
- 2:58seams, all the ships of the sea and their sailors came along to
- 3:02trade for your wares. Men of Persia, Lydia and Put
- 3:07served as soldiers in your army. So here there's like a tire
- 3:11alliance and those modern day lands are Iran, Turkey and
- 3:17Libya. They hung their Shields and
- 3:21helmets on your walls, bringing you splendor.
- 3:24Men of Arvad and Helik, that's Syria, guarded your walls on
- 3:28every side. Men of Gamad.
- 3:31I did look up Gamad and I have Philippines question mark so I
- 3:35don't know if that's correct or not.
- 3:38Were in your towers. They hung their Shields around
- 3:41your walls and brought your beauty to perfection.
- 3:45Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of
- 3:49goods. They exchanged silver, iron and
- 3:52tin for your merchandise. Tarshish was like Cadiz in
- 3:58Spain, Greece, Tubal and Meshech basically in Turkey did business
- 4:06with you. They traded human beings and
- 4:09articles of bronze for your wares.
- 4:12Men of Beth Torgoma exchanged chariot horses, Calvary horses
- 4:18and mules for your merchandise. I can't read what I wrote here
- 4:25about Torgoma, so I'll have to skip that.
- 4:29The men of Rhodes traded with you and many coastlands were
- 4:32your customers. They paid you with ivory, Tusk
- 4:36and Ebony. So Rhodes is also called D Dan
- 4:41in another version of another translation of the Bible, and
- 4:45that would refer to modern day Saudi Arabia.
- 4:48So the men of Rhodes traded with you and many coastlands were
- 4:52your customers. They paid you with ivory, Tusk
- 4:54and Ebony. Aram did business with you
- 5:00because of your many products. They exchanged turquoise, purple
- 5:04fabric, embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies for your
- 5:09merchandise. So, Aram, I have Jordan with a
- 5:12question mark on that one. So Judah and Israel trade with
- 5:17you, traded with you. They exchanged wheat from
- 5:21Minneth and confections, honey, olive oil and balm for your
- 5:25wares. Damascus did business with you
- 5:27because of your many products and great wealth of goods.
- 5:31They offered wine from Hellbon, wool from Zahar, and cask of
- 5:36wine from Izell in exchange for your wares.
- 5:39Wrought iron, cassia and calamus, Didan or Saudi Arabia
- 5:43traded in saddle blankets with you, Arabia and all.
- 5:47The Princess of Kedar were your customers.
- 5:50So Kadar was actually Ishmael son.
- 5:53They did business with you in lambs, Rams and goats.
- 5:57The merchants of Sheba, that would be modern day Yemen and
- 6:01Rama traded with you for your merchandise.
- 6:04They exchanged the finest of all spices and precious stones and
- 6:09gold. Heron, Kana and Eden and
- 6:13merchants of Sheba, Asher and Kilmed traded with you.
- 6:18So that would be SE Turkey, Assyria, Iraq and Yemen.
- 6:26That's the modern day locations in your marketplace.
- 6:29They traded with You Beautiful garments, blue fabric
- 6:32embroidered work and multi colored rugs with cords twisted
- 6:35and tightly knotted. The ships of Tarshish serve as
- 6:39carriers for your wares. You are filled with heavy cargo
- 6:43as you sail the sea. Your oarsmen take you out to the
- 6:47high seas, but the east wind will break you to pieces far out
- 6:51at sea. Now this was interesting because
- 6:56I just want to point this out and again, this is, I'm not
- 6:59absolutely certain, but when you look up the original Hebrew, and
- 7:03I've looked this up before, sometimes the word for wind,
- 7:08this is in the NIV version would mean like a Tempest wind, like a
- 7:13something, you know, like a hurricane basically.
- 7:16And so that would be kind of what I was expecting.
- 7:20But the way the word that was used here was Rua, which is
- 7:24spirit. So but the east wind or the
- 7:28spirit will break you to pieces far out to the sea.
- 7:32Now here's a question is as we go on, I will show you how a lot
- 7:42of this description about Tyre does match up with Mystery
- 7:46Babylon. And Mystery Babylon is still a
- 7:49mystery because we I alluded to it a little bit.
- 7:54I, I think it may be a spiritual thing.
- 7:58And actually I'll take a pause for a minute and, and look this
- 8:02up, you know, because I, the more I study the Bible, the more
- 8:05I think mystery Babylon really seems spiritual.
- 8:10And so I just was curious that I, I Google searched this, not
- 8:13like, just to see, like if anybody else has thought this.
- 8:17So is mystery Babylon spiritual? So this was the AI response?
- 8:23Yes, Mystery Babylon is widely interpreted as a spiritual
- 8:28symbol rather than just a literal city or nation
- 8:32representing A corrupt global system of false religion,
- 8:36idolatry, and rebellion against God found in the Book of
- 8:40Revelation chapter 17, verse 5. This quote, mother of harlots,
- 8:46represents spiritual adultery and the antithesis of the true
- 8:51church. So the spiritual symbolism it
- 8:55represents A worldwide system of deception and spiritual adultery
- 9:00where humanity prioritizes human tradition, wealth and self
- 9:05worship over God. So and then it says definition.
- 9:10It is often described as the culmination of all false man
- 9:15made religions and ideologies, which began with the tower of
- 9:19Babel. That's something else that we
- 9:21just talked about in the last podcast.
- 9:23This is, you know, that Babylon keeps re emerging.
- 9:27The first time we heard of Babel was trying to build this tower
- 9:32that would reach the heavens and God said, no, no, no, you're not
- 9:35going to do that. And then we see Babylon being
- 9:38connected with modern day Iraq and invading God's people's
- 9:44territory and conquering. And and then we have like all
- 9:50the way in the very end times in the Book of Revelation that
- 9:54there's this Mystery Babylon where if it is spiritual, maybe
- 9:59there's a lot of spiritual children of Babylon, which
- 10:03ultimately I really think in totality it equates Satan and
- 10:12the fallen angels. That's what I think really
- 10:14Mystery Babylon is Satan and the fallen angels, the angels that
- 10:18were kicked out of heaven because they rebelled against
- 10:20God and they've spread all over the earth.
- 10:24And Satan does have this temporary rule over the the
- 10:31earth currently pretty much Adam and Eve gave up their dominion
- 10:37when they doubted God and then it apparently got turned over to
- 10:41Satan. But Jesus is returning to take
- 10:44over again when he returns, and then he will be the king of
- 10:50kings. And so it has a good ending.
- 10:54But right now we're in this, we're in this transitional state
- 10:57where Satan has a lot of proxies all over the earth and, and
- 11:06there is a, a spiritual battle. And I think more and more
- 11:10people, I'm starting to see a lot more people realizing this.
- 11:14And anyway, I'm not going to get sidetracked.
- 11:18So characteristics, I'm going to go back to Mystery Babylon.
- 11:21Characteristics. It is described as quote being
- 11:24drunk with the blood of the Saints and is aligned with a
- 11:29global worldly political system interpretations.
- 11:34While some interpret it as a future literal city like a
- 11:39revived Rome, many view it as a spiritual, historical and end
- 11:45times religious force that opposes God's truth.
- 11:49It functions as a symbolic entity representing quote city
- 11:54of the world as defined by Augustine, focusing on the love
- 11:59of the world rather than the love of God.
- 12:02So in my opinion is very much similar to this where I do think
- 12:10that it could be, it could be specific cities and it could
- 12:16also be more of a spiritual place.
- 12:21I mean, there is certainly, I mean, when we get into I, I do
- 12:26have tabs later on that I'll talk about in the Book of
- 12:30Revelation where it goes into more detail and I'll talk about
- 12:34all those things because the Book of Revelation actually
- 12:37explains a lot of the questions that people would have if they
- 12:40would just first read the symbolism.
- 12:43Then later in that chapter it explains what all of that is.
- 12:47So I I think Babylon could be maybe both.
- 12:52So there could be a mystery Babylon that is an actual city
- 12:57and it could be multiple cities, it could be multiple locations.
- 13:02Where as a summarized saying, focusing on the love of the
- 13:06world rather than the love of God.
- 13:09And it's a false religion and it's rebellion against God and
- 13:13it's idolatry because like I said, ultimately I believe this
- 13:17Babylon spirit is actually Satan and his fallen angels.
- 13:22And so that's that's my interpretation of the things
- 13:26I've read in the Bible and and obviously other some others
- 13:31believe this could be as well. In fact, there's another one
- 13:35that the ending of gotquestions.org, it says so can
- 13:39the mystery of the horror of Babylon be sold?
- 13:41Yes, at least partially. The horror of Babylon is an evil
- 13:45world system controlled by the Antichrist during the last days
- 13:49before Jesus return. The horror of Babylon also has
- 13:53religious, religious connotations, spiritual,
- 13:57spiritual adultery with the beast being the focus of an
- 14:03ungodly end times religious system.
- 14:07So I think there are, you know, reputable people who see this
- 14:13also as a possibility. And anyway, I'll get back to
- 14:17Scripture, but the going back to Ezekiel chapter 27, verse 26,
- 14:25where it says, but the east wind will break you into pieces far
- 14:28out at sea. So it's something spiritual, a
- 14:34spirit of a destroyer. And sometimes God uses evil
- 14:41against evil and like enemies of his, he'll use them against one
- 14:48another. Well, they will where they will
- 14:50actually destroy one another. So it's not always good versus
- 14:54evil. Sometimes it's evil versus evil
- 14:57and God is in control of all of this.
- 15:00So sometimes God will use something evil to destroy
- 15:04something else evil. So in this case, I don't know
- 15:09and I'm not saying this is what it is, but because it says the
- 15:12Spirit will break you into pieces far out at sea.
- 15:17I just, you know, the spirit of a destroyer.
- 15:21That's what I think about that they're the king over all is the
- 15:26spirit of a destroyer. So ultimately with with humans,
- 15:32the enemy of God, Satan, he, he doesn't even if somebody aligns,
- 15:39even if human beings align themselves with them, it's not
- 15:41beyond Satan to destroy that person.
- 15:43In fact, that's what he does with everybody eventually.
- 15:46They destroy their own lives by following him.
- 15:50So it's not like Satan has compassion over people.
- 15:53He will manipulate them and tempt them and draw them in and
- 16:00confuse them about good things. You know, they'll he'll take
- 16:05things that will appeal to someone's emotion and then
- 16:08manipulate them, but eventually put them on a path to
- 16:12destruction because that's his ultimate goal.
- 16:15It says Satan seeks to kill and destroy.
- 16:18And I think I'm going to do another podcast just about about
- 16:23Satan, about the evil 1 and what scripture says about it.
- 16:27Not to focus on him because I really don't like giving him any
- 16:32time of day. But if you know the enemy, then
- 16:36you can battle against the enemy spiritually.
- 16:40And the Bible does say resist the devil and he will flee.
- 16:44So it's not like it's a hard battle, but you have to
- 16:47recognize, you have to recognize the voice of the enemy.
- 16:51So again, like I said, I'm, I'm going to do a separate podcast
- 16:54on that because I'm not everybody's going to want to go
- 16:57through that. OK, So let's continue here,
- 16:59verse 27 from chapter 27. Your wealth, merchandise and
- 17:04wares, your Mariners, sailors and ship rights, your merchants
- 17:08and all your soldiers and everyone else on board will sink
- 17:12into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck.
- 17:17The shore lands will quake when your sailors cry out.
- 17:21All who handle the oars will abandoned their ships, the
- 17:26Mariners. OK, so that's interesting.
- 17:28All who handled the oars in the earlier it said the oarsmen.
- 17:33Let's see. I forgot where it was, but I
- 17:36remember reading that's OK men of Sidon and Arvad.
- 17:40So that's Lebanon and Syria were your oarsmen.
- 17:43And this is talking about Tyre. And so here it says, let's see.
- 17:50All who handle the oars will abandoned their ships.
- 17:53The Mariners and all the sailors will stand on the shore.
- 17:56They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you.
- 18:00They will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes.
- 18:04They will shave their heads because of you and put on
- 18:07sackcloth. They will weep over you with the
- 18:10anguish of the soul and with bitter mourning.
- 18:13As they wail and mourn over you. They will take up a lament
- 18:17concerning you who was ever silenced, like Tyre, surrounded
- 18:21by the sea. When your merchandise went out
- 18:25to the seas, you satisfied many nations with your great wealth
- 18:29and your wares. You enriched the kings of the
- 18:32earth. Now you are shattered by the sea
- 18:36in the depths of the waters. Your wares and all your company
- 18:39have gone down with you. All who live in the coast lands
- 18:44are appalled at you. Their kings shudder with horror
- 18:49and their faces are distorted with fear.
- 18:52The merchants among the nations scoff at you.
- 18:56You have come to a horrible end and will be no more.
- 19:00That's the end of chapter 27. So I think maybe the next
- 19:07chapter gets into a little bit more where it really sounds like
- 19:10Mystery Mystery Babylon, but it's like all the coastland or
- 19:13piles. Like there's this, there's this
- 19:15shocking thing that happens to Mystery Babylon and everyone who
- 19:21sees it is in shock. And Mystery Babylon is called a
- 19:26merchant is called like someone who trades with them.
- 19:30And a lot of times things have a literal and a symbolic
- 19:35significance. So while there may be literal
- 19:38goods that have been traded among these countries or nations
- 19:43that are participating in this chapter, then there could also
- 19:46be like a spiritual tie between all of them.
- 19:50Like the the goods, the wares that they're buying from,
- 19:53they're buying into this idolatrous false religion.
- 19:58Now, let me remind you of the different countries that are
- 20:03referenced in here. Like I looked up each of these
- 20:06ancient, ancient nations or cities and said, where are they
- 20:12today? So I'm just going to read all of
- 20:15the countries from today to kind of give a picture of this.
- 20:19So we're obviously talking about Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iran,
- 20:28Libya, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Ishmael's son, which is
- 20:39southeast Turkey and Iraq and Yemen.
- 20:47It's kind of interesting because I noticed a commonality, I don't
- 20:49know if you did, but all of these that are tied together
- 20:54happen to be Islamic places in Egypt too.
- 20:59I forgot Egypt. So isn't it interesting that
- 21:03Islam is present in all of these?
- 21:07And if you didn't listen to my prior podcast, this is this is
- 21:11kind of weird or coincidental. And I'm not saying that this is
- 21:15factual, but it's something that was observed.
- 21:18The star in the Crescent represent Islam and its moon and
- 21:24celestial bodies. Well, it it came about from
- 21:27ancient Babylon and it was a reference to Ishtar, and Ishtar
- 21:34was called the queen of heaven. Now Satan is the author of
- 21:37confusion and I did. I don't know if it was Inana and
- 21:42Ishtar. They're the same.
- 21:43It's just one is a a Sumerian name and the other one is a
- 21:49Babylonian name for the same entity.
- 21:51They merge together and and they I think it's bad this, this
- 21:56Ishtar being our Inana. I mean, it's love and war put
- 22:01together, but this being is an androgynous being.
- 22:05And think about the influence in our world today over trans
- 22:09rights, LGBTQ, and all of this. There's a spiritual entity
- 22:17that's influencing this. And again, once I do the summary
- 22:22of what the Bible says about Satan, then you will see how
- 22:26Satan does interact and empower people and influence people.
- 22:35So the remedy for this is to get close to God.
- 22:39The Holy Spirit will destroy these strongholds.
- 22:43So we are not captive. But the Bible does say that
- 22:46until we have the Holy Spirit, we are captive by the enemy.
- 22:50The enemy is in control of our lives until that whole, the Holy
- 22:54Spirit of God comes into our life.
- 22:56Until we are in agreement with God, that other spirit is going
- 23:01to wreck our lives. And so this is really important
- 23:05for people to to understand. And that's why I, I do these
- 23:10podcasts because I think there is the enemy is hidden to many
- 23:15people. And I want to expose the enemy
- 23:18because expose the enemy, but also not get people in fear, but
- 23:24let them know the solution. The solution is the Holy Spirit
- 23:28of God. The Holy Spirit of God comes to
- 23:30us through Jesus. OK, that's another thing.
- 23:33Islam does not acknowledge the divinity of Jesus.
- 23:38They will say, oh, he was a good man, he was a prophet and all
- 23:41this, but they, they, they say Allah has no son.
- 23:45So Allah is not the same God. In fact, Allah could be Mystery
- 23:51Babylon and there's just, you know, look at the follow the the
- 23:58trail and see if it makes sense. I'm not saying that I know that
- 24:03because I don't. This is an assumption based on
- 24:06things that I see in the Bible and things that have come to me
- 24:10as I was reading the Bible. And it is there's, I don't know.
- 24:15Anyway, I'm not going to dwell on that very long because I just
- 24:17want to get back to this chapter.
- 24:19Let's read. I will read through the
- 24:22questions and answers from this chapter and then we'll move on
- 24:26to the next one, the next chapter 28.
- 24:30So where was Tyre and why was it special?
- 24:34Tyre was, and still is located on the shores of the
- 24:38Mediterranean Sea in Lebanon. Historically, it was a large,
- 24:41wealthy, cosmopolitan center with a significant seaport that
- 24:45was home base for the legendary Phoenician seafarers of the
- 24:49ancient world. Why would foreigners fight for
- 24:53Tyre? These were mercenaries, soldiers
- 24:57for hire. Hiring armies has been a common
- 25:00practice throughout history. Such soldiers were generally
- 25:04well trained, ruthless, and well paid.
- 25:07Even David used mercenaries and you can find that in a second
- 25:10Samuel chapter 15 verse 18. So again, look at all of these
- 25:16alliances though that we mentioned earlier.
- 25:20Why are all of tires trading partners listed here?
- 25:24Seeing tires influence at the height of its glory days helps
- 25:28us fully understand the dimensions of the destruction
- 25:32that was coming to tire. Seeing the extent of tires,
- 25:35wealth and power enables us to recognize how far it fell and
- 25:41how severely it was judged. This list of trading partners
- 25:45stands in stark contrast to what history lated later recorded a
- 25:51list of those who conquered Tyre, the Babylonians, Persians,
- 25:56Greeks, Romans and Turks. So it's, yeah, it's interesting,
- 26:01like I said, that sometimes God uses enemy against enemy, but
- 26:06here they're all allied together.
- 26:08They're all participating together.
- 26:11And then, of course, people who don't have God have the true
- 26:16God. They seek power, they seek
- 26:18conquering. That's another thing that you
- 26:22know, to control. They seek control.
- 26:25Does God seek? Ask yourself this question.
- 26:27Does the true God seek to control us?
- 26:32He can. He created us.
- 26:33He could easily control us. But what does he do?
- 26:36He gives us free will. He does not control us.
- 26:41He allows us to make a decision. We will have consequences based
- 26:46on our decision, but he does not control us.
- 26:49But the enemy has to control. So that's another thing to look
- 26:54at is controlling. Anyone who's trying to control a
- 26:58situation is not necessarily on God's side.
- 27:04So anyway, let's see, I forgot where I was now.
- 27:10Why would other OK? Why would other nations grieve
- 27:13over Tyres downfall? Perhaps because Tyre had made so
- 27:17many people wealthy in Tyre which trusted in power and
- 27:21wealth? No, if Tyre, which trusted in
- 27:25power and wealth, could fall, then all who profited because of
- 27:29Tyre were also vulnerable. Why would dusty heads and sooty
- 27:33clothes be a sign of mourning? In Ezekiel's time, deep inner
- 27:36sorrow was expressed openly and outwardly.
- 27:39Dust and ashes may have become symbols of mourning because
- 27:43ashes were all that remained following a devastating fire,
- 27:48while dust followed the while dust followed the death of a
- 27:53body. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
- 27:55continues to this day as a statement of grief and death.
- 27:59So here's another thing that we'll get to in the next chapter
- 28:032 Like, has this prophecy been accomplished or it does it still
- 28:11remain? Like tires still exist today?
- 28:13And I know that there are scholars who say that, well,
- 28:16it's just not the same as it was before.
- 28:18But the way that Ezekiel describes it, it surely seems
- 28:23like God is saying a lot more than that.
- 28:25Like it's really going to be devastated, like it will not be
- 28:30found anymore. And I don't think that's
- 28:32happened. So that causes me to believe
- 28:35that this is a yet to be fulfilled prophecy.
- 28:38It was maybe partially fulfilled, but again, this is
- 28:42like back in Ezekiel's day. I guess there could be all these
- 28:46different areas of people that came from, you know, the modern
- 28:49day nations help you think about these people.
- 28:54But isn't it interesting also that these alliances have
- 28:58maintained their allies over thousands of years?
- 29:05Think back to when Ezekiel was written and today we are still
- 29:08seeing these entities or these nations aligned with one
- 29:12another. So again that makes me think
- 29:15this is a spiritual thing that perpetuates from generation to
- 29:19generation. So what were these kings afraid
- 29:23of? They were afraid of what
- 29:25happened to Tyre could happen to them.
- 29:27The news of Tyres destruction appalled them because they
- 29:30realized Babylon could do the same to them.
- 29:34They also feared that tires fall would would cause severe
- 29:38economic depression in the region.
- 29:40Why would the merchants of other nations scoff at Tire?
- 29:44To scoff means to express contempt and scorn.
- 29:47Those who had once honored the merchants and leaders of Tire
- 29:51now wanted nothing to do with them.
- 29:54So that's a a change of heart, isn't it?
- 29:58When you're an ally, when you're benefiting from someone and all
- 30:01of a sudden you see their destruction and now you don't
- 30:03like them anymore, that just doesn't quite make sense.
- 30:07And I don't know how that's going to unfold.
- 30:11So anyway, I'm going to stop here but start another podcast
- 30:15on chapter 28 because I just don't want this one to get too
- 30:18long. It's already 30 minutes, so I'll
- 30:20end it here. And if you're not subscribed,
- 30:22please do so. There's some interesting ones.
- 30:25And then there's other chapters that are just OK, but it's
- 30:29staying in the word. I try to do it everyday, miss a
- 30:33few here and there, but our faith comes by hearing the word
- 30:37and actually hearing the word is about Jesus and what He's done
- 30:40for us. So ultimately, there is a
- 30:44Savior. There is someone who gets us out
- 30:46of this mess that we're in, and that Savior is Jesus.
