- 0:05Speaker 1: This is what you need to know now. Flames shooting
- 0:11Speaker 1: from a Delta plane engine as terrified passengers watch from
- 0:14Speaker 1: inside the aircraft. The price of gas now hitting four
- 0:18Speaker 1: dollars a gallon in the US, a cost of the
- 0:21Speaker 1: war with Iran. As oil infrastructure across the region is hit,
- 0:25Speaker 1: including a massive tanker near Dubai. The US Army now
- 0:29Speaker 1: reviewing apache attack helicopters doing a flyby at singer Kid
- 0:33Speaker 1: Rock's home.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I was expecting any of that, but I thought it
- 0:36Speaker 2: was really neat.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And a beloved hospital drama, Grey's Anatomy makes some history.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We have much more what you need to know now.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm Maggie Ruley from ABC News. It's Tuesday, March thirty. First,
- 0:49Speaker 1: this is what you need to know. Will show you
- 0:51Speaker 1: the important Supreme Court decisions that could be announced today
- 0:54Speaker 1: and Selene Dion's new comeback announcement. But first, the big story,
- 1:00Speaker 1: Iran now triggering another spike in prices at the pump.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Gas prices in the US just hit four dollars a gallon.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's the highest national average in over three years and
- 1:09Speaker 1: the largest monthly increase on record. It's due to the
- 1:13Speaker 1: regional turmoil involving the dangerous conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Kuwait says one of their oil tankers was struck by
- 1:20Speaker 1: an Iranian drone off the coast of Dubai. It was
- 1:23Speaker 1: reportedly carrying two million barrels of crude oil. Iran's also
- 1:27Speaker 1: launching new missiles overnight at Israel, just a day after
- 1:31Speaker 1: this strike on an oil refinery in Hypha. The explosion
- 1:34Speaker 1: followed by a thick black column of smoke. President Trump
- 1:38Speaker 1: threatening widespread destruction of Iran's energy resources, saying the US
- 1:42Speaker 1: will attack Iranian power and water treatment plants unless it
- 1:46Speaker 1: opens the Strait of Hormuz soon. But he also says
- 1:49Speaker 1: the US is quote in serious discussions with a new
- 1:52Speaker 1: and more reasonable regime to end our military operations in Iran.
- 1:57Speaker 2: They're agreeing with us on the plant, asked for fifteen things,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and for the most blog, we're gonna be asking it
- 2:03Speaker 2: for a couple of other things.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But Iran insists there are no direct talks, saying Trump's
- 2:09Speaker 1: plan includes quote requests that are excessive, unrealistic, and illogical.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Rachel pressing the White House on the contradiction.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I know the President insists that negotiations are underway, as
- 2:19Speaker 3: you just mentioned. He's also said that Iran has agreed
- 2:22Speaker 3: to most of the fifteen points we just heard from Iran. Again,
- 2:25Speaker 3: they're saying no negotiations are taking place, or calling the
- 2:28Speaker 3: proposal excessive unrealistic. How do you explain that discrepancy between
- 2:33Speaker 3: the two.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I think the American people are smart enough not to
- 2:36Speaker 1: take the word of a terrorist regime that has chanted
- 2:39Speaker 1: death to America for forty seven years. The FBI now
- 2:42Speaker 1: says that the man who rammed his truck into a
- 2:44Speaker 1: Michigan synagogue earlier this month was inspired by Hesbealah. They
- 2:48Speaker 1: say he sent a video to his sister minutes before
- 2:51Speaker 1: the attack, acknowledging he was targeting Jews, saying he wanted
- 2:55Speaker 1: to quote kill as many of them as I possibly can,
- 2:58Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty children. We're inside the synagogue at
- 3:00Speaker 1: the time of the attack. The suspect had family members
- 3:03Speaker 1: who were killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon. Israel
- 3:06Speaker 1: said the attacker was the brother of a HESBLA commander.
- 3:10Speaker 1: National Intelligence Director Tulcy Gabbard also told a Senate committee
- 3:13Speaker 1: that the man did have family ties to the terrorist group.
- 3:16Speaker 1: The attacker exchanged gunfire with a security guard before fatally
- 3:20Speaker 1: shooting himself. Now to a frightening moment on a Delta
- 3:24Speaker 1: flight from sal Paolo headed to Atlanta, flames erupting from
- 3:28Speaker 1: an engine, forcing the plane to turn back to the
- 3:30Speaker 1: airport for an emergency landing. Trevor Ault has the details.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Well, Maggie, this was an extremely frightening scene out the
- 3:38Speaker 4: window on this Delta flight ticking off from salth Paolo, Brazil,
- 3:41Speaker 4: and they had just taken off, only gotten about four
- 3:44Speaker 4: thousand feet up very early on in the flight when
- 3:46Speaker 4: they saw those sparks that were shooting out of the
- 3:49Speaker 4: left engine. And actually what we know is that some
- 3:51Speaker 4: of that debris fell back down near the runway started
- 3:54Speaker 4: some brushfires. But what we're told from experts this is
- 3:56Speaker 4: actually parts of the engine breaking off into the engine
- 3:59Speaker 4: itself and burnt up. That is designed to work that
- 4:02Speaker 4: way when they have this kind of issue, and that
- 4:04Speaker 4: allows the plane to continue to then turn around, and
- 4:07Speaker 4: that's what the pilots did. They immediately stopped their assent
- 4:10Speaker 4: and switched to an emergency landing. They were in the
- 4:12Speaker 4: air for about ten minutes until they landed safely. Now,
- 4:15Speaker 4: Delta is apologizing to all of their passengers. They say
- 4:18Speaker 4: that the safety of the passengers and the crew, all
- 4:20Speaker 4: two hundred and eighty six of them on board, is
- 4:22Speaker 4: their top priority. What we've heard from Delta is that
- 4:25Speaker 4: this was not caused by a bird strike. They are
- 4:28Speaker 4: investigating the cause of this incident as our Brazilian authorities.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And in the US, long lines that were seen at
- 4:34Speaker 1: airports around the country are diminishing after TSA officers has
- 4:38Speaker 1: received their first paychecks in more than a month, but
- 4:41Speaker 1: the partial government shut down continues, with key workers from
- 4:44Speaker 1: the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Coastguard still not
- 4:48Speaker 1: getting paid. This after House Republicans rejected a deal passed
- 4:52Speaker 1: by the Senate to fund most of homeland security except
- 4:55Speaker 1: for ICE. A high school north of San Antonio was
- 4:57Speaker 1: closed today after authorities say a st you shot a
- 5:00Speaker 1: teacher before fatally shooting himself. The teacher is hospitalized, but
- 5:04Speaker 1: there have been no updates on their condition. Police say
- 5:07Speaker 1: they are investigating for a possible motive. The school was
- 5:10Speaker 1: placed on lockdown as parents rushed to the scene to
- 5:13Speaker 1: reunite with their children. Musician Kid Rock is speaking out
- 5:16Speaker 1: after posting videos of military helicopters hovering near his Tennessee
- 5:20Speaker 1: home on Saturday. Kid Rock, a staunch MAGA supporter of
- 5:24Speaker 1: President Trump, has seen standing next to a replica of
- 5:27Speaker 1: the Statue of Liberty, clapping and saluting the crew of
- 5:30Speaker 1: the Apache Attack helicopter before it flies away.
- 5:34Speaker 2: They stop for I don't know seconds, a minute, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 2: maybe they were here three four minutes, you know, Just
- 5:41Speaker 2: say what's up? Went on? I see him when they
- 5:43Speaker 2: fly the Schnooks and they go to Nissan Stadium for
- 5:46Speaker 2: the football games. They come right over and if I'm here,
- 5:49Speaker 2: I usually make it a point come out and mit. You'll
- 5:51Speaker 2: give them what's up.
- 5:53Speaker 1: The Army says the helicopters were in the Nashville area
- 5:55Speaker 1: for a training exercise and they are reviewing the incident.
- 5:58Speaker 1: The Apaches are a part of the one hundred and
- 6:00Speaker 1: first Airborne Division, based sixty miles north in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
- 6:04Speaker 1: In a statement, the one hundred and first says Army
- 6:06Speaker 1: aviators must adhere to strict safety standards, professionalism, and established
- 6:10Speaker 1: flight regulations. Appropriate action will be taken if any violations
- 6:14Speaker 1: are found. We have much more what you need to
- 6:17Speaker 1: know now to take three the stories you'll be talking
- 6:31Speaker 1: about today. Number three, A fifty two year old Asian
- 6:34Speaker 1: elephant escaped her enclosure at a new Mexico zoo. The
- 6:37Speaker 1: eight thousand pounds elephant, named Alice, made it out through
- 6:40Speaker 1: a gate and a bamboo fence. She then had a
- 6:42Speaker 1: nice little brief stroll around the zoo, luckily before it
- 6:45Speaker 1: opened to visitors. Zookeepers used recall methods to guide her back,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and her enclosure has been repaired and reinforced. Number two.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Some big news for Grey's Anatomy fans. ABC has renewed
- 6:58Speaker 1: the series for a record twice third season, making it
