- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Let's get started, bro.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Big week.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Big week, holiday weekend.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Um, Clemson.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm up in Tallahassee now.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: You can see my little new apartment uh up here in Tallahassee, man.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: It's it's a grind living back up here.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: But uh, I'm so grateful to be here, and it's gonna be a freaking exciting week, bro.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Well, for whatever it's worth, I'm jealous you're in Tallahassee.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: I love that place, but whatever.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: You got a house like right up the street from me, and you just decide to leave all the time.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I'm just letting you know you should probably sell it.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: It's not a bad idea.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I'm okay.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stay right there.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, bro.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Well, Bo and Pilar are missing you.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I'm missing that.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: That's all I noticed.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: So you better get home.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you better get hey, maybe, maybe, just maybe we can get like a little surprise, like little walk-in from Mr.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Bo Travis this week.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: That'd be sick.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: So sick.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: So sick.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: All right, talk to me, bro.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So we got a bye week.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Uh uh pretty demoralizing loss against Miami.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: We played well, still lost the game.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Um, my first question for you is this take me into the locker room and divert back to whatever I guess week it was in your career.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: You lose a huge game.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't know if you lost the game, headed into a bi-week, but you lose that game.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, first and foremost, I want to know uh what that locker room looks like after a big loss with a whole week of no game.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, bro.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Um, I mean, I don't freak.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: The last time we lost, I mean, I don't I don't know if it was 2022.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: So it was 22.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: I can't even really think.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It might have been remember we started 4-0 and then we lost three games straight.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: And I think we had a bi-week after Clemson?
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: After the last game.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Clemson, and we after the three losses in a row.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: So I I mean I put it in a bat, it's about their channel.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Remember, but like that was great.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I'm just so interested to know, like, like how like like how does Mike Darvell bounce back?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: How do the coaches back back bounce back?
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: What are the players supposed to be thinking?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah like just take take me for a ride into that world.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Well, going back, thinking about that specifically, that game, going from Clemson, uh possibly a bye week to our next game and winning out.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Um, I think it's necessary, bro.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: I think it's necessary for everybody, everyone to get away.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Obviously, you go to work on shoot, you're back Sunday, practice Sunday, off Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, practice.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they did Thursday this past week.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: Um, and then you got you give the guys a few days off to clear their mind.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Everyone needs a refresh.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Coaches, you've been going since literally summertime from May probably 13th on till right now.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: There's been no breaks.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: There's been zero breaks.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: No one gets a break.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: You might get a few days in the middle of summer right before camp, but everyone's been going, going, going.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Nonstop football.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: It's okay to get get give your minds a few seconds to rest, bro.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know this game is so, so important, but sometimes you have to leave the game on the field.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: And when you get home, refresh and let it all go.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: Go see your family and remember what your why is.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: I think we forget so much what our why is.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: So this bye week allows you to go back home and see your family and your go to your high school games and see how important you are to your city.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: Um, and those guys come back with maybe a little bit more passion.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: I know my bye week, I stayed right up here and I worked my tail off.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: Um, everyone has their different ways to go about things.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: Some people need to refresh and some people need to get into the training room, into the film room a little bit more and let you know, like, and sit there and sit with those losses and allow yourself to understand, like, hey, I'm tired of losing these football games.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: You have to get fed up of losing.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: And I think those guys are are getting to that point.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: I saw Chris Jones on the sideline after that Miami game and seeing his face was he, I felt every bit of what he was feeling, man.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I think Mike Marvella needs a break.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: I think those coaches need a break also.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Just give him two days, go wherever you guys are to go.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Go see your families, go love on your families, go hug on your kids, but you don't get to see them often.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Um, and go get ready to win these final five games because everything that we want is in front of us.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Obviously, a national championship.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: I don't know if we can get in the top 12 this year if we win out five games.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: Who knows with how college football is going these days?
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Um, you have no idea.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: We go out and dominate these next five games, leave it up to whoever has to make that decision.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Um, a Florida State team that's coming off five strong wins against a ranked team in there, throwing a ranked team in there.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Miami's facing, I don't think they have another ranked game this year.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know if they've had any ranked games this year.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, just go get ready for these final games.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Everything we want is here, bro.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Focus on this week.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: And I'm excited.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: We get to play Clemson on Halloween weekend at 7 o'clock here in Tallahassee, bro.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, is that not a dream come true right there?
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Oh no, it's it's I mean, it's a spooky season, and and and I have kids now, Jordan, and I found out that we are starting uh trick-or-treating at like 5:30, which means um I have to make a really firm decision here.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Am I gonna be trick-or-treating with my phone on or am I gonna be present as a dad?
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: I think me and you both know that answer.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: We might move Halloween trick-or-treating up to about 5 o'clock, so we're done by 6.50.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Um, so yep, uh dad problems.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: I I mean, I can't wait for this game.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Jordan Clemson's coming off of a off of a well actually let me go backwards really quick.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Um, you lose that game to Miami.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Is it is the mindset in the locker room like, oh my god, we're just starting to like figure it out, we're starting to put things together, we should have had that game.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, playing this week is better, or in your opinion, uh uh was this bye week like was it needed?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Like, is this like a chance for resurgence?
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: That's tough.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: You know, like I feel like every single team is different.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: Every I mean, it depends on your leaders, you know?
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: So, like, obviously, coming off the Alabama game, we were so close.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: We were so close in the Alabama game.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: So, like, that's a game where you feel like, hey, we got we're scratching the surface, we're almost there.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: So you expect this to go on a roll.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: So it's hard.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: It's when do the leaders put their foot down and say, hey, we are tired of losing football games.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: We are not allowing a little bull crap that's been happening, all the small things that we talked about last week.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: Um, I know we talked about something last week.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: I said consistency for the C-word, it's commitment.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: I thought about it after.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I'll just grab one off.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: It's commitment, little things, intensity, mental toughness, and brotherhood.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Um, are we committed?
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: I fall back on the climb of it's everyday life, bro.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: It's everyday life stuff like commitment.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: What are you committed to?
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Are you committed to this program?
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Are you committed to giving every single thing that you have in your body for that person next to you?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: The little things, are we willing to pick up the trash?
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Are we willing to say hi to the janitor?
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Are we willing to do the extra reps?
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Are we willing to just do the little things that matter so much that helps us win football games?
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: And then intensity, are we giving intensity in every single rep?
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Are we are we giving everything that we have in everything that we do?
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Are we giving it intensity in how we treat people?
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Um, how we attack our days?
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Um, and then obviously mental toughness in a time like this when the whole world is hating on you and it's so easy to hate on Ford of State football, always winning or losing.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Um, when you have your own fan base that's obviously not happy, which is completely understandable because I'm not happy either.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Um, how mentally tough are you?
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: How mentally tough are you that you have the whole world hating on you and you get to still go out there on this this Saturday and win a big football game against Clemson, who was a big rival, and make people forget about it for until the next week.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: And then we have another opportunity following to continue this thing.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: And obviously, brotherhood, what we're all in it for, what we all love the game for, we love football, we love obviously baseball, brotherhood's really big.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Um, are you willing to do whatever for that guy next to you?
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Um, the brotherhood's the most important thing.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: So that's what it's about.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Where are we gonna go this week and look at the man next to you and say, I am not gonna let you down.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: I am not gonna allow your family to be sad this week and hear people and let your name up on Twitter and see people talking bad about you.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna allow that to happen to you.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, bro.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think it's once again the climb.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: I fall back on that thing a lot.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: And yeah, bro, I think I'm I'm really excited because I feel different.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: I feel like we do have some confidence that we need it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: All right, so so give me just a quick, a quick little like I'm a Florida State fan, I love football.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I watch the game nonstop, but I don't really know what I'm looking at, or kind of like how I'm supposed to see this game.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, what what what are your keys for us to to to to ensure that we have solidified that we are on our freaking P's and Q's um against this Clemson team?
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Obviously, come out and establish a run game.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Um, that's number one.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: Our run game is the most important thing.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: Obviously, with my guy Chroma down.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Um, we're leaning on Trey Weisner, um, Omari Thomas, who is a freshman, true freshman running back that was a four-star, I believe, out of high school.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: Um, just a baller.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: And if you watch him run the football, he reminds me of Trayshawn Ward very much.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Um, and obviously, you know, I'm one of the biggest Trawn Ward fans uh that there is.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Um, I love the way he runs the football.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Um, so I think he's gonna get a lot of playing time this week.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: He's very good out of the backfield.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, obviously Trey Wisner stepping up.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: We have to we have to rally around the guy.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Um, obviously, over a thousand yard back at Texas last year.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: That's let's let's not forget about that.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: You know, like a thousand yard back at Texas.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Um I think that's a pretty special player that we have in our hand on our hands.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Um so I'm excited to see him.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: Um obviously Sam Singleton down too.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: Um praying for Sam.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Um, they were both having freaking great years.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Our running back room, I told you at the beginning of the year, we had the most stacked room, and that we have four or five running backs that can start on a lot of ACC teams, college teams across the country right now.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Um so I'm excited for them.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Um, obviously, our defensive line needs to come out and play how they played in that Miami game, putting pressure on the quarterback.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Obviously, when our defensive line is playing good, we have a chance every single game.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And we've seen it the past what three weeks.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Um when they make an impact and make the quarterback rushed and feel uncomfortable.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: We have a chance.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: Obviously, our cornerbacks need to play really big big time football this weekend.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, bro.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: I think this is the game that Ashton Daniels um goes out and balls out.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's obviously been balling out in the Miami game, he played fantastic.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: Um, I think that was his best game yet.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: And I think it's just gonna build.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: His confidence is building.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: People are starting to believe in it a little bit more, so I'm excited to see him go out there and play a big-time football game.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: All right, and then talk to me quickly about the defensive side of things.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Six sacks last week from Clemson.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Sure, it's not the Clemson of old, but the defense is always, always, always rolling, and you know better than really anybody.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, how do we like what is the key to defenses that blitz?
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I was reading something about their defense blitzes like X amount of times, which I guess is like like one of the highest in the country.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Uh what is the key to blitzing and how you're supposed to tell the line to move?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Is it the quarterback?
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Is it the center?
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Is it the guard?
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Um, and then if so, if you had an opportunity to watch Clemson a bit, um what do you think the best route is to to uh to I guess counter to this blitz scheme attack?
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I I haven't watched practice this week, but um I don't want to go into depth of like how you do defeat that because you know you know those especially Clemson, you know, those people watch everything.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: You feel like they come out to your practices and watch your practices.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Um well Dabo knows though, right?
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Like it's not like those coaches don't know like the absolutely the way I guess I'm just asking for like a generic.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Like I'm truly interested that if they blitz that much and and like what what do we do?
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Like, is it screen passes?
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Is it yeah?
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: I think obviously screen passes, hot routes, um, getting your quarterback outside the pocket.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Um but the best thing about blitzing is if you blitz and one guy misses the wrong gap and you hit that gap, it's a touchdown.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: So I think that's very, very big.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: So they have to be very sound, obviously, as a defense.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: And our offense is explosive.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: We have Deuce Robinson.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: So if you blitz, I mean, there's a chance that we have a one-on-one on the field.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: We got to find the one-on-one.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: We have to find we pick up the blitz and we find a one-on-one.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: We have the receivers and the running backs that can make people miss in the open field, and you cannot cover them one-on-one.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: So please make that mistake, and we have to be able to attack that and give our guys a chance at all times.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, bro, I'm I'm really, really, really excited for this week.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: I think our offense fits this goes very, very well against this Cumpson defense.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: Once again, this is gonna be a great matchup, but we are the better football team without a doubt.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: We've seen us against very, very good football teams.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: We come out and dominate every week.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: We just need to put it all together this week and play full four quarters.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: I was talking to one of my buddies, a homeless guy.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: His name is Kevin.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: And Kevin just said, Man, we just need to last, he has my number.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: He called me two nights ago and he said, Man, we just need to play full four quarters.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: That's all he said.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: And then I said, Kevin, you are so right, man.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: That's all we need to do is just play four quarters of football, the football we've been playing the first two quarters, and we have a chance to be one of the best teams in the country.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: And I do mean that.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know anything about football, but hopefully Mike Narvell was yelling all practice long.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: Let's act like it's the third quarter and we are ahead, and now let's find a way to mirror the first half and the second half.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: And I think a lot of good things can happen.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Um, ton of I mean, dude, college football is so crazy this year.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, one thing I I said this week was uh I hate I hate the transfer portal.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Um uh I love that players are getting paid, although it feels to me like everybody's on a one-year contract and we're chasing money instead of like um like the team, the camera, and the name on the front.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: So I can't get mad about people chasing seven-figure numbers.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: But um NIO, the transfer portal has created some form of parody in college football.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Um, when I say parody, I guess what I'm saying is that Georgia can lose uh on an off week to Auburn.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Uh Tennessee can beat Alabama and then lose to South Carolina the next week.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Uh BYU can beat Notre Dame at home, but then play at the bounce house in Orlando and lose to UCF.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Uh uh and Cincy uh was the better team from start to finish against Texas Tech.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: So um I I I guess my biggest question to you, JT, is is what like what where we are in college football today, and Sabin made a comment on it, I believe, on college game day this past week.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Um if you are the the the the coach of of a team in college football today and you come off a huge win, is there a way in which you can can uh I know the players are on a high, is there something that you can say when you walk into the locker room to like reset the locker room that as a player you're like okay on to the next thing?
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: I know Saban preaches standard, but like if you were a coach today in a player mindset, like what would you like a coach to say to you to reset for the next week?
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Shoot.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's hard right after a game, walking right into a locker room.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: He's like, you know, it's like coaches can almost say anything.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: That prayer kind of resets, depending on how religious you are.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: That prayer kind of reminds you, like, hey, it's bigger than what we're doing just on a field.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: And we do have a chance to wake up tomorrow.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: So I think that's really big was big for me.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Um, I think a coach.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: But how about throughout the week though?
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Like, like what do you what do you do?
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Like when you give a huge win and like you gotta like bounce back the next week, and now you got a um an easy game at South Carolina after playing Alabama, and then they get it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: I think it's just that have having that next play mentality.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, you know, it's like almost like next game mentality.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: It's like, okay, that's in the past.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: We still have everything that we want in front of us, and reminding those players like a loss is like it's not okay, but we still have a chance to play for something that's bigger than what what we're even expecting in the moment.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: When you lose, you're like, oh, it's over.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: You know, it's not like the old college football where you lose a game and you're out, you're out of the top four.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Now we have a chance to make the top 12.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Um, so just having that next play mentality, bro.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: We have new opportunities this week.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: It's always about opportunity.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: Um, and you get a new one every single week, other than obviously if you have a bye week.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, just just trusting in the next opportunity and going out that next Tuesday.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Once again, the leaders have to step up.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: There's only only so much a coach can say.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Players just making a choice, just going out there and practicing hard and preparing for that game on Saturday.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: Yep, good players make good coaches.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Um, about the SEC.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Um, it makes sense to me that there's no undefeated teams left, I guess, but there's only two one-loss teams left now.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: It's uh throw miss was beat by Texas.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Um, it's uh uh Kentucky and Georgia.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Um Kentucky.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: What uh I yeah, it's crazy as that that new coach from Kentucky.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: I know it's just Kentucky.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: They're blue blood and and and basketball.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Dude, they they play like some really tough physical uh football.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Looks like that team plays for each other.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: I'm with you.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: No way, no way, no way, no way.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: I don't believe that Kentucky will play in the SEC Championship, but um who do you believe on believe in, I guess, most down the stretch?
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: SEC.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: You're saying SEC only.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, bro, Georgia.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I'm always until Georgia proves me wrong, I'm gonna ride with Georgia.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Every single time I think Georgia's on the field, I think that they are the better football team.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: Um, I think Kirby Smart is a dang good coach.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: I think that coaching staff is really, really special.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, bro.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: I just I don't know why when the Georgia Bulldogs play, I just feel like they're they're they're they always have a chance to play for the national championship.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, bro.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: I give me Georgia, obviously.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Kentucky's great, but it's just still Georgia football and Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Is is is there a sneaky team though on the SEC?
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: So like Ole Miss rolls into Texas and loses.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Uh love their quarterback.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Um Alabama, it's just a young freshman.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Does he keep getting better and better?
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Is I guess is there is there uh a team that now is like on the outside looking in in the SEC that you're like, they can still win a national championship.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I Alabama, bro.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Alabama is really good.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: Keelon Russell is freaking a baller.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's one of the best quarterbacks I've ever seen, freshman quarterbacks that I've ever seen in person.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, his speed, I'm with you, his arm, just he doesn't look like a freshman quarterback.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Like he looks like one of the best quarterbacks in college football um today.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, I think Alabama, staying in Alabama in that second half, when they put their foot down against Florida State and said, like, hey, this is enough.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Like, whoa, and this came out and dominated in every aspect of the game.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: They looked like a really, really good football team that second half against Florida State.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: So I think Alabama is really good.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: I think once they get it together, and put once again, college football is crazy right now.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Nil has made college football crazy.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: I think the whole we see we see college football, bro, is all it's almost like even.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Like it's kind of crazy.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: I love to see teams like that come out.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: We're seeing so many upsets.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: But are they we really gonna keep calling them upsets?
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Because it's like the talent is spread so evenly, not evenly, but more evenly than before.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Obviously, all this good players went to Florida State, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: It was always a big name schools, and now we see Indiana's and teams like Kentucky now competing.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: And yeah, bro, it's it's really cool to see that part, which I hate NIL a lot.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: I love it that it gave me some money, but I hate what it's done to college football.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: But I do love to see um how it's evening everything out.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: SEC, still the premier conference of college football, or Big Ten, they won the last three national championships.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Um, uh I guess how do you gauge that?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Is it like obviously Big Ten's tough at the top?
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: Um, it's been Ohio State as of always, Michigan, they won in 2024.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: I guess it would have been 24, uh, 23 season, 24 now championship.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Anyways, end up Indiana last year, or do you still see uh the SEC as the premier conference in college football?
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, once again, SEC is always gonna be the SEC.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: I think SEC's like head-to-head, the most powerful conference.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Um, you know how I feel about ACC and SEC games because we do have a chance in every single game that we play against them.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: And yeah, you don't want to get we want to go down that.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: But um, I think right now we have to say the Big Ten's the best conference.
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: They won the last three national championships.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Um how do you say that they're not the big the best until they're knocked off the top?
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: You know, so it's like based off the past three conf uh national championships, I'm gonna say the Big Ten's the best conference in football today, right now, until something changes.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: SEC fans don't want to hear it, but I mean it's fair, right?
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, you you won the last three national championships, you are the best.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: No one cares about the depth or any of that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: uh you beat yourself up, you also get paid the most money.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: So um I'm I'm I'm with you on that full blown.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Um you think about the Big Ten too, right?
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: I mean they added Oregon, a really good football team.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: USC, which I do want to ask you about Lincoln Riley.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Um I cannot believe USD dropped that game against Wisconsin.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: I'm certain that you are absolutely stunned.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Um there is a situation the second you lose big games USC they've been on a heater ever since Lincoln Riley got there.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: I think he's a fantastic coach.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Um are you moving on from him or is it like uh hey uh we're just getting beat I mean they've been haven't they've been ranked all year like this was they were ranked this past game right I yeah man I just don't understand like who are you gonna hire that's better than Lincoln Riley?
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Like that's what we have to get to a point fans.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: It's like okay we're gonna fire this head coach but who in the heck are we going to get do we have enough money which I don't know if USC has enough money um oh they got big bread baby to hire and pull from another school that will come there that's better than Lincoln Riley and is it really worth it?
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: So I don't really know um in my my my eyes I think Lincoln Riley's a really really good coach um I don't know what's going on there.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: I I really haven't followed USC football much.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: Are we just finding someone just because we want something new I think everyone wants always something new.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: But once again you have to remember the grass isn't greener on the other side um yeah bro I'm with you I'm with you all day long um good players make good coaches man and I think Lincoln Riley is a very good coach and if Georgia can lose to Auburn anybody can lose to anybody for me so I I mean I could I couldn't agree I think you absolutely nailed that nailed that I have a question for you who do you think is the top two or top three Heisman picks right now well how much do you watch college football Devin have you stayed focused as of late uh and there's top there's two guys that are not quarterbacks that I think we both can agree on.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: I mean for okay I mean I'm I'm I'm a little slow right now because I don't know this sport grade but I'm learning it I think there's no question I'm going Jeremiah Smith and Tony and I don't know which one's one or two yeah I agree you I mean I I'm on the same thing that you're I mean I think Malachi Tony and Jeremiah Smith has had great years.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Obviously Julian Sayan going down and being hurt for however long it's tough for um I mean once again you have Jeremiah Smith he'd find a way to get him the ball I think Luke Fahy is their quarterback now who's a talented quarterback um just find a way to get him the ball but I got Malachi Tony's number one for me right now bro and that guy from Oregon State um I think it's Oregon State he has more yards than both of quarterback no well I think he's true best makers the best quarterback in college football um I'm talking about their their receiver they have a freshman receiver bro that has like over 1100 yards 13 touchdowns nine touchdowns something crazy um already true freshman he just declares that he's coming back for a second season which is crazy keon called me this weekend and said what is going on with college football um we have a guy a true freshman that declares that he's coming back for his second year mid-season which is absolutely crazy um but yeah uh I got he signed an extension brother happens all the time in the pros crazy college football is the NFL yeah it's professional football bro I mean it's just the bottom line good for him though getting that bag up man heck yeah amen I want to give a quick shout out to Hotel Indigo in Tallahassee the official hotel of yours truly um whether you're coming into town for an FSU game visiting campus or just spending a weekend in Tallahassee Hotel Indigo is a place to stay great location great atmosphere and right in the heart of College Town um they've always shown me and my family so much love and I'm proud to call them my official hotel.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: So next time you're in Tallahassee make sure you check out Hotel Indigo and tell them JT set you.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: Now let's get back to the show.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: All right Jordy we have uh arguably arguably and for me it's really no argue having dad on was super cool uh but in in sports um in life whatever job you have you end up having like this like dad that's in whatever industry that you're in and and and for me the the man that's about to come on here I'm so grateful for him in so many ways because um number one uh uh he's one of the best people I've ever uh met in my life number two he's certainly the best man that I've met in the game of baseball um and number three he's a guy that made someone whose career ended early where I started to hate the game of baseball um he brought back my love for the game of baseball I never had interest in coaching I wanted to go like work in uh the financial world and get as far as I as I could away from this game and um when I made the decision to coach with the Braves this is the man that hired me um and I'm still coaching today so I guess whatever you taught me Mr.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Sidewinder uh thank you for everything and uh yeah without further ado we got Doug Mansolino on uh man so thanks for joining thank you for coming on man yeah thanks a lot I'm gonna tell you what that was a heck of an introduction hopefully I can live up to it buddy yeah you you you know what Sidewonder if there's one thing I don't doubt about you um it's that you always show up and you're game ready so let's do let's do this thing yeah this is all new to me practice I got news for you practice I can't believe what does that mean here we go here we go here we go right out of the gate that's right make the podcast about thinking on Devin go ahead Jordan if you haven't heard the story you're about to hear what I was here I'm excited I am excited have you you haven't heard this story yet Jordan sir I have not I'm excited to hear hey by the way hey by the way don't call me sir I still work you know not anymore no not anymore I got grandkids I don't I don't want to be called sir so the story goes like this Jordan we're in um we're in double a and we're in Mississippi Jackson Mississippi and your dad happens to be at that game or that week of games Devin's a coach in double A for our affiliate uh when we worked with the Atlanta Braves and anyways um Terry Pendleton and myself are on the field talking to your dad and admiring the fact what kind of shape he was in it was unbelievable so we're talking about that and anyways um he got to talking about you and your sister and what kind of athletes you were and bragging on you etc of course and Terry Pendleton said you know he's talking about how big you are and your sister's a good size for for a woman etc and Terry Pendleton said well what happened to him and your dad looked at him and he could hear him look right at him and says oh him uh he was practice the other two are the game that's exactly what he said so from that point on his nickname was practice that is awesome I was not expecting that that's great well in other words and him being the oldest obviously I understand he was practice and then you and your sister were the game yeah I love it in other words and that's how I'll got some whoops here comes Devin and Jaden Jordan that was yeah that was the game thanks for everything dad five foot eight and six foot two well uh whatever yeah but you played in the big leagues buddy had a good career fool them fool them fool them sidewander let's go make it till you make it baby I made it heck yeah keep hiding until they find it you you damn right sod let let let's get right into this world series because um I know me and you we've had like a ton of talks of of uh about the game of baseball and you know obviously the game always changes over time and you have to evolve with the game uh but I know for me specifically uh when this playoff started outside of obviously the Braves making it um these two teams are are two teams to me that have always stood out as like a little bit of maybe the old school batch where uh the way that they play the game I guess would be considered old school it's not uh live and live and die by the homer um it's get the ball to go forward play the game the right way a good pitching good defense I'm I'm super interested um on your thoughts on this World Series so far well it what a novel idea huh that all of a sudden baseball came back to what you just talked about what a novel idea the game's been played the way you just described for a hundred and some odd years and uh I guess that commercial that the chicks dig the long ball completely changed it.
- 31:21SPEAKER_04: I don't know but um you're absolutely right basically what we have are in my opinion are got we have two teams and we've talked about this that play for each other and and and what I mean by that is especially in amateur baseball especially in the minor leagues let's be honest they're all trying to go to the same place so it's very rare and it's very difficult to do and I mean extremely difficult to get your team to play for each other.
- 31:54SPEAKER_04: All managers have a different way of doing it not one's better than the other and in my opinion this small ball thing you're talking about moving runners uh competitive at bats um going in hard on double plays etc etc um is just another form of playing for each other the self selflishness is gone and and I'm trying to move the runner over to get the my guy on deck the opportunity to drive him in I'm giving up my at bat but this has been going on in baseball for a long time it was gone for a while especially when they had the shift the shift changed a lot of stuff all right it was they didn't care if you struck out and a ground ball you were out because you hit into the shift so the game kind of evolved to into the three run home run.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: All right and they didn't they didn't care about strikeouts slowly once they've gotten rid of this shift slowly the game's starting to go back to kind of what you're talking about um situational hitting etc you know we we live in this this era right where you know I I know that I I guess initially right when analytics became a thing and and I was still playing I feel like 15 16 is when it really got like pushed into the game um and they were hiring all these different kinds of people and all these crazy numbers are coming up and you had all these you know bigger scouting reports although in Toronto we had a lot of older players so it we didn't really dive deeply into it.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: But I feel like initially I was good with the addition of analytics and and it felt like it was a bunch of people that were just coming in trying to help players.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: But I feel like today we're almost in this world where it's like left and right and you're either old school or like the the the old version of baseball that I guess we know like we see in this World Series.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: And then on the flip side you have this new school of baseball you you told me this very powerful analogy and I I just want to to I guess get your perspective on on where we're at right now in baseball and I guess how we do grow together and that's both sides where you you made a comment where you said um we live in an era where there's knowledge and there's wisdom yet um the the wisdom which is the old school players the guys that have seen a bunch of different stuff they have a bunch of experiences and on the flip side you have the knowledge which is the very very smart people that me and you could not but we can have that job um the wisdom appreciates the knowledge but we're almost in an era where the knowledge I guess it's a little tough at times for us to feel like they appreciate the wisdom I I just I I just want to hear you speak on that for a little bit because I'm I'm always so intrigued.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: Well let's back up to what you first said uh old school new school I don't think there's such a thing I just think it's the school you're in in that era of baseball is the right school so obviously I spent over four decades so yeah I can say yeah back four decades ago you can call that old school no that was just the school for the era we were in and you can call this new school but it really isn't it's just the school for the era we're in and it will change so what are you gonna say 10 years from now that this era is old school no you're just in a different era it's just the right school for the right time in regards to your comment about wisdom and knowledge um yes we had multiple conversations about this uh first of all let's let's just get one thing perfectly straight before I explain what I meant when I talked about wisdom and knowledge there's a lot of smart people in this game there are so many smart people in this game I mean it's ridiculous and they're getting smarter which is a good thing.
- 35:54SPEAKER_04: However there's one thing that's smarter than all of us all their computers smarter than you and me smarter than Murphy smarter than Cash the guys in the World Series and what's smarter than all of us are those white lines.
- 36:09SPEAKER_04: Because as soon as a player walks across those white lines those white lines tell us everything we want to know about that player period.
- 36:18SPEAKER_04: And those white lines have been there way before I was born and they'll be there way after I'm dead and those white lines will still be telling us everything we want to know about the player.
- 36:28SPEAKER_04: As far as the wisdom and knowledge goes the game's kind of involved into this the people that are in charge for the most part are highly educated people highly educated.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: I mean you can go back and look at their bios or Harvard grads or Ivy League schools etc etc and I consider that knowledge and knowledge is a good thing.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: Wisdom you can call it experience I call it wisdom wisdom has only been around so long because it is constantly trying to gain knowledge because wisdom knows the game changes and the more knowledge wisdom can get that can help wisdom teach the kids the better.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: Now the beauty of wisdom is it knows what knowledge is applicable and which knowledge isn't wisdom also knows who to give that knowledge to and who not to give that knowledge to because of their time on the field experience.
- 37:27SPEAKER_04: All right the problem is wisdom loves knowledge it has survived because it's constantly seeking knowledge is there a better way to do this what can we do to get better however knowledge doesn't in my opinion doesn't necessarily respect wisdom as much as wisdom respects knowledge and the reason being is because wisdom's gonna ask knowledge why why do you want to do it that way and knowledge instead of taking it like it's wisdom's opinion knowledge feels like it's being judged and they aren't being judged this is just my opinion and knowledge asks um never asks wisdom you know this and that it just kind of dictates the wisdom but wisdom is constantly asked knowledge okay we'll do it but why and it exposes it exposes some people in knowledge it's kind of like it's kind of like when a player asks a coach why and that's what I love about this era of player I come I I can't even tell you Devin how much I appreciate this era of player.
- 38:41SPEAKER_04: I know people say ah the players are different the beauty of this player in this era is they ask why and when they ask why guess what it does it exposes shitty coaches it exposes them it exposes them because they shitty coaches say because that's the way I did it that isn't good enough it exposes them.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah so that's the difference in my opinion between knowledge and wisdom can can you write a you you need to like you need to write a a a book can you write a book yeah let's uh I can't write I can't write a book because my son's still in the game okay unless he gets out of the game I may write a book someday but but you have to understand players play and Jordan you did this I don't care you you're a hell of a football player you did this you don't even know you did this you might now because you're away from the game but it doesn't matter what sport it doesn't even matter in business what I'm gonna tell you right now every player in any sport especially baseball whether it's they know they're doing it or subconsciously they're doing it they ask themselves three questions the first one they ask when a coach is working with them it could be a trainer it could be a front office personnel it could be the it could be the clubhouse guy it could be anybody that is in that locker room no matter what sport and all and every player I've ever met asked ourselves three questions one can I trust him two does he care about me and three can he make me better whether they know they're doing it or not they are now I could bring in a hall of fame hitting coach put him in that cage and immediately he has instant credibility however however if I don't trust him I don't think he really cares about me and he can't really make me better I will go somewhere else it doesn't make that a bad guy he's just not the right guy for me and that's what today's player is doing and you ask yourself if you're in the coaching arena you ask yourself those three questions can my players trust me do they know I care about them and can I make them better?
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: And if you can't in my business you'll never be a major league coach because there's two types of coaches in baseball there's what I call gatekeepers those are guys that throw BP hit ground balls do all the work then there's difference makers and the difference makers are the guys that can answer those three questions can I trust him does he care about me and he can he make me better those are difference makers they're hard to come by because you have to check your ego in at the door and most people and you have to understand this most coaches are trying to go the same place players are so sometimes what happens is their development gets in front of the players development and they've already had their chance they've already had their chance but they're trying to go the same place so in my opinion the ideal coach because everyone says he's a player's manager well what the hell is a player's manager okay let's just break it down one his players know they trust him two their players know that he cares about them and three their players know that he can he can make them better whether it's on the field or off the field and four he gets this group of guys in his own method to play for each other hard to do hard to do I can listen to you I I can listen to you talk all day and let me tell you if we ever um if we ever add like a third to the podcast Jordan I'm just telling you that if we added Doug Mansolino this podcast would be absolutely a lecture and don't get it twisted he talks baseball because it's like his like it's in his blood but he can talk anything so um I got my number Eddie right I'm I'm over here making notes as he's talking like I I've been hearing this stuff for like a long time and I'm like chuck because I'm not even missing a word that he says Mentok I don't know can you see Bo say what's up Memento say hi let's go Mentok I I I do want to ask you and this isn't planned Bo just decided to walk in and I guess I didn't know really what to do but this is fun and insightful and we're all learning together and this is absolutely amazing.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: Thank you again for joining um your son and I I'm a dad I'm a new dad I'm learning on the fly I don't know what's going on um but as I get older and and and you know I I look in the world and and I think about what it's like to be a dad and to raise a young man in this world.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: I'm hoping that Bo loves sports but if not whatever odds are he's gonna love sports.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: You saw his golf swing sidewalker watch out.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: I've seen him swing a bit
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: I can't elaborate.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: He likes a tackle too.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: He likes to say blue 52.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: I think he wants to be a DN.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: He wants to hit his uncle.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: He doesn't want to get hit by his uncle.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: Smart Bo.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: 52.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: But uh, but but your son, Tony Manzolino, who I finally I call him like my I you're like a brother to me.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, excuse me, a father to me, and and you're Bo's grandpa, right?
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Bo that's grandpa's sidewinder.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: Um Tony is like like a like a brother to me.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: I don't even know him.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, I feel like like uh I met him for the first time, and I felt like after we spoke for about 30 minutes, number one, I was talking to a mini Mantle.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Um, and number two, um uh it was just so cool because the guy who I love, Doug Mantelino, like this is his son.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: And I knew I know Tony grew up in this baseball craziness, and I know that you were gone all the time.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: And you know, you know that I left the game of of baseball and professional coaching because I I wanted to be a dad, but I would imagine, all right, Bo's leaving, so thanks for joining, Bo.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: You're a great guest.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: Good job.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Um, Uncle said bye, and Grandpa Mantos said bye.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Um I I would imagine that that you had dreams for your for your son, and and and ultimately you wanted uh Tony to live out whatever dream that was that he wanted.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: Um but for him to now step in the same career path that you stepped in and and climb his way up the ladder in the minor leagues, I believe, with the Indians first.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: Is that right?
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: They were the Indians back then, now they were the Guardians.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: Um he's the interim manager last year with the with the Baltimore Orioles.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Now he makes the transition to the Braves where where you spent many years um as the minor league field coordinator and then the special assistant.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: Um what's this ride been like for you?
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Because I I I know you don't speak on it, I know you do not get emotional, but I'd imagine that there's a lot of things that you look back when you you know put the put the freaking tape on Rwan.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: Um when you look at Tony, I'm sure there's a lot of things that you think about.
- 46:11SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, that's a heck of a that's a loaded, I mean that's a heck of a question.
- 46:15SPEAKER_04: That's um first of all, I mean, he's the one, I mean, he's always wanted to play in the big leagues, never got the opportunity, played in the minor leagues, obviously.
- 46:24SPEAKER_04: Um, just wasn't good enough to play in the big leagues, which like yourself takes a special person to play in the big leagues, ability-wise, mentally, etc.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: However, um I remember the phone call when he called me and says, I'm done.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: I'm watching some of these guys play, and there ain't no way I'm going to big leagues.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: I mean, he was very he's a very good self-evaluator, which a lot of kids aren't.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: Um so he I said, Well, take that degree from Vanderbilt and go get you a good job.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: Because we all know what the minor leagues pays and the grind it is, and the and the God, what the odds are of you getting to the big leagues as a coach, um, especially in that era when you hadn't played in the big leagues.
- 47:03SPEAKER_04: Now it's a little different.
- 47:05SPEAKER_04: Um and he said, No, I want to stay in the game.
- 47:08SPEAKER_04: And I said, You what?
- 47:10SPEAKER_04: And he said, I want to stay in, I want to coach.
- 47:12SPEAKER_04: And I said, Well, let me make some calls for you.
- 47:14SPEAKER_04: He said, No, I want to do this on my own.
- 47:17SPEAKER_04: I said, Okay, well, if you need my help, let me know.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: Next thing I know, he says, I got a uh rookie ball hitting coach job with the Guardians at the time, the Indians.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: Not a hitting coach guy by trade, but back then you only had a manager, a hitting coach, and a pitching coach.
- 47:33SPEAKER_04: That's all you had back then.
- 47:35SPEAKER_04: So he did that for a couple years and then gradually worked his way to double A as a hitting coach.
- 47:41SPEAKER_04: And they came to him and said, We want you to go to triple A and we want you to be the hitting coach in triple A.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: And Tony said, I want to manage.
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: And the guy said, farm director and GM told him, Well, if you manage, you're gonna have to start out at the bottom.
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: I said, That's okay.
- 47:59SPEAKER_04: He said, But you don't understand, Tony, you get to go to triple A, you're one step from the big leagues.
- 48:03SPEAKER_04: He goes, I don't care, I want to manage.
- 48:06SPEAKER_04: I said, Okay, you you wanted to do it, so he stuck him in low A ball and the rest of his history, worked his way up and ended up coaching third for Cleveland and during the playoffs, and Tito got sick, and then um Baltimore hired him as their third base coach.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: Uh, and then obviously Hyde got let go a few games into the season.
- 48:29SPEAKER_04: He took over, managed big transition for him.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: He learned a lot, and they offered him a job back to coach third in Baltimore, but you know, he just felt like he would be uncomfortable, the manager would be uncomfortable, and kind of being between the players and the new manager.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: And then, fortunately enough, uh Lana offered him the job as the third base coach initially, and then it wasn't a week later they turned around and called him asked him, you know, the interview for the bench coach job.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: So he called me and says, What do you think?
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: And I said, Dude, do you know how many years it took me to be a bench coach?
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: Are you kidding me?
- 49:05SPEAKER_04: It took me 25 years to be a bench coach.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: You became a bench coach in one week, you gotta be shitting me.
- 49:12SPEAKER_04: So he ended up taking the bench coach job, and and he's he's he's he's pretty happy with the decision he made, and him and Walt get along great, so it's all good.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: You know, I I gotta, I gotta, I gotta just, you know, uh touch on something here because once again I'm taking notes and I'm sure that there will be fathers that do listen to it to this podcast, the the three people that do decide to listen, which sorry.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but they can take something good from this though.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: So you can tell me this.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: Um, I am a father, I do have dreams for my kid.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: Um, if you can just tell me in simple, like what is your best advice to somebody who I'll give you that's a great question.
- 49:55SPEAKER_04: You you brought you you hit a nerve.
- 49:57SPEAKER_04: I'll give you a great story.
- 49:58SPEAKER_04: This is probably the best thing I could tell.
- 50:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, pretty much to anybody out there listening, including yourself.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: And Jordan, someday when you get married and have kids, all right.
- 50:08SPEAKER_04: Um I was gone, like you said, a lot during the season.
- 50:14SPEAKER_04: And so my wife obviously was coach, dad, mom, you know, just like probably Allie's going through on days, you know, because you're going with baseball.
- 50:25SPEAKER_04: However, and Tony, since we've been talking about him, he'd have bad days, you know, playing, strike out a couple times, maybe three times, pop up a couple times.
- 50:36SPEAKER_04: And like a typical mom, she'd be driving home with him in the car and she'd say, Oh, you did all right, and he'd snap on her.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: I mean snap.
- 50:44SPEAKER_04: Like, you know, because he's pissed off he had a bad day.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: So obviously she'd call me and I mean I could read him the right act on the phone, whatever.
- 50:53SPEAKER_04: So, anyways, I f season's over, I finally go home.
- 50:57SPEAKER_04: It's a winter ball game, and I think he's in junior high.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: I'm pretty sure he's in junior high at this time.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: And they play like a winter league thing, and he had a bad day, and we're driving home, and his mom says something to him and he snaps.
- 51:12SPEAKER_04: Oh god, you don't snap at mama, not around me.
- 51:15SPEAKER_04: So we get home, I yank his ass out in the garage, sit him on my first of all.
- 51:20SPEAKER_04: I let him have it about disrespecting his mom.
- 51:23SPEAKER_04: Because, you know, she didn't understand, you know.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: So I explained to him, I said, you know what?
- 51:27SPEAKER_04: I struck out five times in the game once.
- 51:30SPEAKER_04: And he looked at me and he goes, You did?
- 51:33SPEAKER_04: I go, Yeah, I did.
- 51:34SPEAKER_04: He goes, No, you did, yeah, I did.
- 51:36SPEAKER_04: I said, I made three enters in the game once.
- 51:38SPEAKER_04: He goes, No, you didn't.
- 51:39SPEAKER_04: I said, Yeah, I did.
- 51:40SPEAKER_04: I said, This ain't an easy game.
- 51:42SPEAKER_04: And the problem was, because of what I did, he was trying to live up to dad.
- 51:50SPEAKER_04: Because parents would say stuff like, only reason that kid's on the team because of what his dad does.
- 51:57SPEAKER_04: Or he should be better than that.
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: So he's putting that added pressure on him.
- 52:01SPEAKER_04: So ironically, he calmed down.
- 52:04SPEAKER_04: This is a this is an honest to God truth.
- 52:07SPEAKER_04: So I get fired in Detroit.
- 52:10SPEAKER_04: Phil Gardner gets fired.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Might have been two weeks into the season.
- 52:14SPEAKER_04: I'm the third base coach, so obviously I was brought in with him.
- 52:17SPEAKER_04: I get fired.
- 52:18SPEAKER_04: So for the first time, and I can't tell you how many years, a lot, I'm finally home in the summer.
- 52:25SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 52:26SPEAKER_04: So Tony at this time is going to Vanderbilt.
- 52:29SPEAKER_04: So he's through junior high, he's through high school, and he's in college.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: So finally, and I've never seen him play an organized game, never saw him play a high school game.
- 52:38SPEAKER_04: Never only time I ever saw him play was like a winter thing when I was home.
- 52:42SPEAKER_04: Never saw any game of meaning.
- 52:46SPEAKER_04: So now I'm I'm off basically not by my accord, I'm fired.
- 52:50SPEAKER_04: And I go to Vanderbilt game, and I think he punched out a couple times.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: So I'm waiting on the concourse.
- 52:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm waiting on the concourse for him, me and his mom, and he comes walking up, you know, after the game, I go, Hey, yeah, get him tomorrow, but he goes, Yeah, at least I didn't strike out five times.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: Sick.
- 53:08SPEAKER_04: True story.
- 53:08SPEAKER_04: Sick.
- 53:09SPEAKER_04: How awesome.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: True story.
- 53:11SPEAKER_04: Sick.
- 53:12SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 53:13SPEAKER_04: True story.
- 53:14SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's good.
- 53:14SPEAKER_04: So a lot of times parents, kids try to live up to parents what they do or their expectations, you know, and instead of just playing the game and enjoying it.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's that's so good.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: So you're basically saying, you know, sure.
- 53:32SPEAKER_04: If that's stuck with him, that I had struck, at least I didn't strike out five times.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: So you so what what you're saying, and simple, I guess, and this is how I'm understanding it, is is um sure the father wants the son to whatever it is he uh I would love Bo to play in the big leagues.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, that would be absolutely incredible.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, be the very best version of yourself and know, son, there's no pressure from me.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: As long as you bust your tail, as long as you love what you do, as long as you put in the effort that's required to get to wherever it is you want to get to.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: You want to flip burger?
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: Sure, make the best burger in the world.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is you want to do, son, I'll support you.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and any mistake you ever made, trust me, I've made worse.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: That gives them the peace to know um that dad's gonna be proud of you regardless.
- 54:18SPEAKER_04: But these dads nowadays are so wrapped up in the mechanics of the game, etc.
- 54:23SPEAKER_04: Um, these private labs.
- 54:24SPEAKER_04: Oh, don't get me started.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 54:27SPEAKER_04: But let me finish.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: But but if a dad, if a dad could accomplish this with his kid, let's say his kid loves baseball.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: Let's just say he absolutely loves it, and that's what he wants to do.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: Let's just say that's what he wants to do.
- 54:40SPEAKER_04: Wants to play, get a college scholarship, play professionally, play in the big leagues.
- 54:44SPEAKER_04: Let's just say, hypothetically, that's what he wants to do.
- 54:47SPEAKER_04: The best thing a dad can do for his kid at this point is ask him this these questions.
- 54:53SPEAKER_04: Give me 10 examples of playing the game the right way.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: Give me 10 examples of respecting the game of baseball.
- 55:02SPEAKER_04: Give me 10 examples of what a good teammate is, and give me 10 examples of the unwritten rules of baseball.
- 55:09SPEAKER_04: If you can accomplish that with your own son, look out.
- 55:13SPEAKER_04: I guarantee you, Devin, you're gonna go to your academy and you're gonna ask your players those questions, you can ask big league players that, and they should be able just to rattle 10, bam.
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: You want more?
- 55:24SPEAKER_04: And they'll you'll lock them up.
- 55:27SPEAKER_04: Because what happens is, listen, first of all, we you know and I know, Jordan knows, you can't stop a kid from getting to the big leagues if he's talented.
- 55:35SPEAKER_04: You cannot stop him, you can't even screw him up.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: You can't.
- 55:39SPEAKER_04: He's he's he's talented, he's gonna get to the big leagues regardless of who's in front of him, his path, what coaches he.
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: He's still gonna get there.
- 55:48SPEAKER_04: The difference is if he can answer those, give you 10 examples of those things I just said.
- 55:53SPEAKER_04: The difference is now he stays.
- 55:55SPEAKER_04: He doesn't go back, he stays.
- 55:58SPEAKER_04: He stays in the big leagues.
- 56:00SPEAKER_04: It's honest got you.
- 56:01SPEAKER_04: He stays.
- 56:02SPEAKER_04: He doesn't spend a year, and then next thing you know, he's back in triple A.
- 56:05SPEAKER_04: He doesn't spend two, he stays because he can answer those questions, give you 10 examples of each.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start calling you the preacher, Jordan.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: He's like the preacher, bro.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: It's like when we go to church on Sunday and everything he says, you're like, Whoa, really?
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: Wow! And I've heard like all this stuff one million times, dude.
- 56:23SPEAKER_04: And every time he says it, I'm like Jordan, if I Jordan, if I said to you, give me 10 examples of playing the game the right way, 10 examples of respecting the game, 10 examples of a good teammate, and 10 examples of the unwritten rules, could you just rattle them off, or do you have to think about it?
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: Don't even have to think about it.
- 56:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, I feel like you should be able, you should every player should be able to rattle them off.
- 56:44SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 56:44SPEAKER_04: Because that's how it because it's a culture that you've created, and that culture goes back to what I said at the beginning.
- 56:52SPEAKER_04: They play for each other.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 56:55SPEAKER_04: And that's all part of that culture.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: And JT, we talked about this, right, bro?
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Like last week was the first week that we saw Florida State football play for each other, and the result wasn't the result we wanted against Miami, but it sounds like we're along the the right lines of it first.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Starts with playing for the guy next to you, and this little thing right here, and that jersey back there, and these colors mean a crap ton to us.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: Um, that was the first time we saw it, so I'm super excited about this week.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: We have Clemson Jordan.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I hogged this the whole time.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm just saying, Jordi, I don't know how you feel, but I feel like when we get to like next baseball season, if we ever got this rolling, uh, we are hiring Doug Mansolino to join this podcast.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: We are gonna sit back, relax, and let the world listen because it's nothing but but wisdom and it's full of of knowledge.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, my my appreciation for you, uh Mr.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: Doug Mansolino, I I can't say you enough.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, you tell you enough.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: You you opened up my my mind in ways that I truly can't explain.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, sure, the baseball stuff, it's been it's been really, really amazing.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: But, you know, one thing I know for certain is that that in this life, and I guess for me, most of my life was baseball specific, um, you never stop learning and you never stop growing.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: Um, you never stop evolving.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: And the second you feel like you you made it or you got it figured out um is the second that you're either gone or everybody passes you.
- 58:29SPEAKER_00: And uh you've given me this like inspiration, not just to the game of baseball, but you know, I treat my marriage a certain way because of you.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: When you're home, stay home.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: Uh I I treat my kids a certain way because of what I learned from you and watching how you treated all the kids every single day with the Braves and watching your son grow up.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: And and uh, you know, I could just go on and on and I could talk to you all day.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: Um and um we got about 97,000 other questions that we were supposed to get through and we can't get to it, but I I just want to I just want to tell you now it's perfect, and to be honest, dude, I could listen to you talk all day.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm I'm just so grateful for you, man.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: I I I love you.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm so grateful that you're in my life.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: And uh I wouldn't have this job right now.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't even be involved in baseball if it wasn't for you, truthfully.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: And I think that you knew that because I was very clear when I went to the Braves that coaching really isn't for me, and I'm doing this just because I guess I don't know what else to do with my life, and you gave me a new passion and a new why for why I live.
- 59:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm incredibly grateful for you and I love you, man.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: Thank you for joining.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, listen.
- 59:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, same here, and I I'll cut it, I'll cut it, I'll get to this and off you go.
- 59:41SPEAKER_04: But yeah, I've told you this before.
- 59:44SPEAKER_04: You did me a favor.
- 59:46SPEAKER_04: You did me a huge favor because before I left this game, I had to hand off the baton.
- 59:51SPEAKER_04: And there's very few people I trusted to hand the baton off.
- 59:55SPEAKER_04: You're the guy I trusted.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: Damn.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: That's sick.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: Steinwater, it's hard, it's hard to make me blush, but I'm blushing, you just can't see it.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: You got the baton now, buddy.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you, Steinwater.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: I'm forever grateful.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you, yeah, you got a history in in um, I mean, you got a future in uh TV if you want it.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Just letting you know.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not even kidding.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: I'm not no expert in TV.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know how the heck they let me on.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_04: This is this is a perfect face for writing.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: Well, well, I heard him, I heard him.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: Hell yeah.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: Last question.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: Hey, quarterback is the best still the best half of the game.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: Hey man, you know, you know those pretty madonnas in the in the in the green jerseys?
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: Hey, hey, last question for you.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: Who is the greatest?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: They are you know he's the game, dude.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: I was practice, I'm a grinder.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you were just practice.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: Hey, I still got my beard, I still got some good days in the last question, last question.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: Who is the best college football quarterback to ever wear uh the number 13 jersey?
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_00: Go now.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: Danny Cadell.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: Jordan Travis?
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: It's a no-brainer.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_00: It's a no-brainer.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: It's a no-brainer.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_04: I was gonna wear my shirt today, my Jordan Travis shirt.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_04: Let's go.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_00: Wear it tomorrow, and wear it tomorrow in Tennessee and let that burnt orange know.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_04: Florida State, Florida State.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_04: I'm a Florida State fan because you're there and they have let me down.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: What is going on?
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Well, don't worry, don't worry.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: We're talking about that all week, so you fire the fans up.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be a big week this week, baby.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for coming on, man.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_02: I truly appreciate it.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_04: All right, thanks you guys.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_00: We're bringing back our weekend slate preview segment.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: This week we're gonna be looking ahead at the best games of the season in the NFL and give our winning picks.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: JT, we're both four and two this past week.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: Um, Alabama, uh, slow start, got super muddy.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: I know that that's where I was a separator for me and you.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: I should have just rode your coattail on Texas AM plus 13 and a half.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: Felt like an easy pick uh for me, and you had the smart pick.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: So nice job, four and two.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: Hey, let's see if we can keep it rolling though.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Texasy, if we can go the whole season and go like 50%, we're doing really good.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: I watch a ton of shows, and not many people normally finish the season at 50%.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: So I think it's like 52 to 53 percent, something that you have to go to actually uh break even.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: So let's keep it rolling.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: Proudie, Florida, Georgia.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: Um, it's a tight game.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: Georgia minus 10 and a half in Jacksonville.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, biggest cocktail party in the world.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: What you got?
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: Give me Florida plus 10 and a half.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_02: I don't like rolling with Florida, but Tremelo Jones was a quarterback that was committed to Florida State, and he had a dang good game last game.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_02: Um once again, it was his I don't know if it was his first or second start.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: Um he's building his confidence.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, give me give me Florida plus 10 and a half.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: I think this this game is always close.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_02: Um, Florida's defense is very questionable.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_02: They come out some games and look really good, and they come out some games and don't look as good.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_02: So give me Florida.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: All right, for this one, I mean I'm with you.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: Game is always tight.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna go Georgia uh minus 10 and a half.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: I'm hoping that teams come off a bi-week cover spread.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: So uh let's go.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: Arizona.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're playing some good football.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: I love that quarterback.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: Um, they're playing at Texas Tech, who obviously dropped the big one this past week.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: Texas Tech minus three and a half at home league.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, unless we start Tommy Castellano's, give me Arizona money line.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: Um, shoot, plus three and a half.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_02: I would take Arizona, obviously coming off a bad loss.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: Um I think if yeah, I think if Tommy Castellanos plays, I think that Texas Tech has a dang good chance to win with that spread or even more.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_02: But give me Arizona.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I'm with you.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: I I think that Arizona should cover.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: And I look at this game and I'm like, how's Arizona not favored?
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: Texas Tech coming off a loss.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: For me, Jordan, it's just one of those games where it's like uh fade yourself, A, because uh um anytime I look at a line and I'm like, that's easy, I'm always wrong.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: And B, um, I couldn't pick an NFL game right yesterday, so that's like the sour taste in my mouth.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna go Texas Tech minus three and a half.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: I have no idea why, other than I normally lose these games.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: Ohio State minus seven and a half at USC.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_02: I think this is the hardest one.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, no Julian saying.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: Um take the under.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_02: Can we get an under number?
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_02: Give me USC.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_02: Give me USC plus seven and a half, bro.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I mean, Lincoln Riley back against the wall, world's calling for his head.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: Um USC has been a good football team all year long.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: Obviously, the past few weeks haven't hasn't been great for him.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, give me USC plus seven and a half at home.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: It's like does USC bounce back at home, or does everybody look at minus seven and a half and go, there's no way they're gonna cover that without Julian saying.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: For me, it's like I don't know which one to pick.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_00: I'm lost.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_00: Flip a coin and I'll take USC plus seven and a half.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_00: They're getting over a touchdown.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_00: I hope for a late touchdown with that USC offense to cover the spread.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: Um, I like the under for sure.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_00: Uh NFL, Ravens at Bills, minus three and a half.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: Bills, what you got?
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_02: Bills minus three and a half.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_02: Ravens did not look good.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: With you all day.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: That's horrible this past week.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: You know, Lamar's back though, right?
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I do.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_02: I I just the Bills look, once again, I'm a big Bills guy this year.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: I feel like the Ravens and Bills have honestly.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: I want to switch up and go with the Ravens, but I'm gonna stick with the Bills minus three and a half.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_02: Um, it's always a close game.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_02: But yeah, give me Josh Allen.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_00: I think it's the easiest pick of the week, JT.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_00: That Ravens defense is playing way better, but I'll never bet against Josh Allen at home.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: Um, and he's got Lamar's number in the regular season, I believe.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: If not, whatever, shoot me.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: Football great.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: Browns at the Steelers, minus three and a half.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: Give me Browns plus three and a half.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm a big A-RON guy, but the Browns have been playing decent, which is kind of NFL is really weird this year, too.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, give me Browns plus three and a half.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, long travel coming back from out of country, three and a half, and uh, I think that's an end.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: Is that a divisional game?
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_00: Is it?
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, cool.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: I was told anytime it's a divisional game, um, two low-scoring teams that play good defense, take the points.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_00: Uh take the Browns plus three and a half.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_00: Uh Vikings at the Lions.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_00: Lions minus three.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_00: Man, oh man, that was a shaky game last night.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_00: Um, what you got?
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_02: Give me the Vikings plus three.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_02: I think Kyler Murray's playing good football.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_02: Um, obviously Jameer Gibbs is a dang good football player, but the Lions scare me a lot.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_02: Um, I think you earlier in the year you told me the Lions are uh who they play earlier in the year that they lost.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_02: Was it the Panthers?
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_02: Not Panthers.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_02: It was a game that was way closer than it should have been.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: Uh so I'm gonna go with Vikings plus three.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_00: I think that's a smart pick, JT.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh, I'm not a Kyler guy.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't enjoy it.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_00: I watched this whole game yesterday.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: Um I just don't think he's healthy.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_00: He doesn't look healthy to me.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_00: He's like not like tucking the ball and taking off, and I think he's a quarterback that has to run to be the guy that they want him to be.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_00: Um, hard to ever bet against Kyler Murray and Justin Jefferson that connection.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_00: Um, it doesn't make sense why I take the Lions minus three, and they went for it on their 20 own 24 yesterday, and they got rewarded with the victory, which I think's nuts.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't care what analytics say.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: I think there's times where you should just make the right coaching decision.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_00: I think Dan Campbell at times is off his rocker.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: Credit to the Lions for winning, and I guess I'm gonna go ahead and roll up roll with them again just because it makes no sense.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_00: I feel like the this should be like a pick'em.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_00: Um, so I don't know, I'll take the lines.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_02: Thank you for tuning into this episode and every episode of Travis Take Two.
