- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29I just finished up a session sitting on the porch very early
- 0:33in the morning with a client that's overseas and I did the
- 0:37session sitting on the porch in the dark.
- 0:39And part of the part of the gift about having this ability to do
- 0:44this and be able to be out here like this is, you know, the, the
- 0:49feeling of being able to go meditate, the feeling of being
- 0:52able to just sit here in that sunrise ish.
- 0:57It's, it was dark when I started the session and the sun is just
- 0:59starting to like brighten the sky even a little teeny bit.
- 1:03So it's not dark and listening to all the bugs and the frogs.
- 1:07And it's just, to me, it's just one of those wonderful moments
- 1:11where you can feel everything starting to wake up.
- 1:16And I always get very contemplative at this time of
- 1:19day. That's why I like to sit out
- 1:20here. Chickens aren't out.
- 1:22They're far off. You can hear the rooster in the
- 1:24background. But it gives me this time to
- 1:26really contemplate. And one of the things I was
- 1:29talking to this client about this morning was the fact that
- 1:32she doesn't understand why people don't follow through.
- 1:35She has a team of people that she has in her company and
- 1:40people will say they're going to do things and they don't follow
- 1:43through. And she's like, what's the
- 1:45reason people don't follow through?
- 1:47And I started to laugh and I said, well, there are multiple
- 1:50causes of that. I can't tell you that just one
- 1:54is the one that's going to give you your answer.
- 1:57But what I can tell you is that it's a very common thing that
- 2:00people talk about and complain about and, and in, in especially
- 2:06in business where they'll say, I hired someone, they said they
- 2:09were going to do it. They didn't follow through.
- 2:11And it, it's a, it's a non-stop conversation about how humans in
- 2:18general will say they're going to do something and then, you
- 2:22know, not do it. In her company, like many
- 2:27companies, they asked them to all publicly put out their
- 2:30goals. They say, what are you working
- 2:32on? They do it in a group.
- 2:33They think it's a, a safe setting.
- 2:35So everyone's saying things, putting goals out there and then
- 2:39nothing happens and she's like, we're publicly declaring it,
- 2:43isn't that enough? Now, if you're listening to this
- 2:46podcast, there's a very good chance that you're one of these
- 2:49people that that would be enough to say, well, I told everybody I
- 2:52would do it. I'll do it because you're in a
- 2:54self growth mode. You're listening to this and
- 2:57that causes you to say, OK, well, I, I, I, I definitely
- 3:01always, I'm in the self growth mode.
- 3:03So I'm going to pay attention. I'm going to be it like, you
- 3:06know, on the things that I say, which is fabulous.
- 3:10I I am the same way. If I say I'm going to do
- 3:13something, I take care of it. But not everybody's wired that
- 3:17way. And sometimes when you put
- 3:19people in a group and you put them under pressure and you get
- 3:22them to say what you want them to say, it doesn't mean they're
- 3:25going to do it. Have to understand everyone's it
- 3:29has individual motivation. And while the majority of people
- 3:32are motivated more by pain than pleasure, meaning they'll do
- 3:36more to avoid the pain of something than to get the carrot
- 3:39that you're dangling in front of them, most people, it's a
- 3:43combination of that true desire. And are they just saying it to
- 3:48shut you up? Are they just giving it, you
- 3:50know, the words that you want to hear in order to just get you
- 3:54off their back and understanding that what's really what really
- 3:58has to happen for them to do this?
- 4:01And that's not typically stuff that will come out in a group
- 4:04setting. That's more things that you have
- 4:07to have individual conversations with people for, including
- 4:10yourself, including yourself. So I like doing this podcast.
- 4:15When I started this podcast, I didn't tell a soul I was doing
- 4:19it. I was very quiet.
- 4:20I just went off and I recorded it for a month.
- 4:24I said I'm going to try this for a month and see how it goes.
- 4:27Actually, I started off with saying it was a week and if I
- 4:30like it after a week I'll keep going.
- 4:31And then after a month I'll see where it is and then I'll tell
- 4:34everybody I launched it once I have 30 episodes up and going
- 4:38and then I I'll feel like I can do it.
- 4:40So here we are 4 1/2 years later and I'm still doing it.
- 4:44And part of that, the, the, the, the great gooey stuff of that is
- 4:50I know, I know myself where if I can get into a rhythm of, of
- 4:54liking something, then I'll continue to do it.
- 4:57If I don't, I won't continue to do it.
- 5:00But I had these distinct feelings of doing it and I dug
- 5:04into those. But you have to do that with all
- 5:07the people around you, whether it's very small children or
- 5:10adults that you manage or your household, It doesn't matter
- 5:13what it is. You have to know their
- 5:15underlying motivation. And the question you need to
- 5:19really hone in on is what has to happen for the follow through?
- 5:23What has to happen for you to follow through with this?
- 5:25And when you ask that they tend, it's not absolute, but they tend
- 5:30to give you more solid answers. So I hope this was helpful and I
- 5:35hope you guys have a blessed day, productive and follow
- 5:38through and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:39Bye.
