- 0:11Ooh, what's going on? We got the drums going on at the Deconstructing Topic Podcast.
- 0:19Welcome to a new season of the Deconstructing Topic Podcast.
- 0:22My name is David and I'm your legendary, legendary host of Deconstructing Topic Podcast.
- 0:27And in this new season, obviously we're going to be talking a little bit of the week one football.
- 0:33If you love sports, once again, tune in to this little episode.
- 0:36Well, even if you don't love sport and you want to learn about football,
- 0:40tune in to the Deconstructed. We're going to do a weekly kind of schedule because
- 0:44I always remind people, I came to United States illegally just so that I could
- 0:49watch American football.
- 0:51348, hoot, hoot, let's go. What a week one.
- 0:55Crazy week one out there for those people who are keeping scores and for those
- 0:59people who are in the fantasy football.
- 1:02You took some L's. You took some Dubs. I took a dub. Let's go.
- 1:06Let's go. For the second year in a row I got.
- 1:10J.S. Ennis. And for those people who wonder who J.S. Ennis, you already know.
- 1:16The wonderful wide receiver, Jackson Smith Jigba.
- 1:22All right, Jigba and Jigba. Let's go.
- 1:26That word right there, that word, if you don't know how to say it,
- 1:28you might get in trouble. But the fact is this, beautiful week one,
- 1:32crazy week one, threw up football. Football is here.
- 1:36We make it happen. Once again, I'm going to do a weekly thing on my podcast
- 1:43Yes, in the future I will have a separate channel Sports, comic books,
- 1:47and all that good stuff Well,
- 1:49I'm going to pretend that I'm into comic books But I'm familiar with stuff there
- 1:53that ain't listed But you know what?
- 1:55Sometimes I say to myself The Deconstructing Topic Podcast The topic means that
- 2:00we're talking about a little bit of it all And welcome once again,
- 2:04It is a new season because football is here and it is a new season of my podcast
- 2:10where we're just going to probably just going to go crazy.
- 2:14And why not go crazy with the first game? For some reason, the NFL now is in
- 2:18every damn application, streaming app there is.
- 2:23Sadly, if you are one of those people that don't have Netflix and you love football,
- 2:28then you might have missed, what is it, Thursday's game between the 49ers and Ram?
- 2:33So normally, and in the last...
- 2:38My understanding of the over, and I'm sorry about that, the over the 10 decades
- 2:42or whatnot, especially with football having its own network,
- 2:46is that you have to have football 24-7.
- 2:49You know, football's opening night is Thursday, but this year it was on a Wednesday.
- 2:54On a Wednesday between, hey, listen, the rematch of a Super Bowl,
- 2:58of last year's Super Bowl, that was somewhat of a dud between the Patriots,
- 3:03New England Patriots, and the Seattle Seahawks.
- 3:05Interesting game. Hey, listen, the Patriots play a little bit better.
- 3:09They didn't get blowout.
- 3:11They went to Seattle. Seattle getting them rings. You already know. Super Bowl champion.
- 3:16But the fact is this. Seahawks defense, just like they did in Super Bowl, stymied the Patriots.
- 3:23The final score was Seattle 13, the Patriots 10.
- 3:27So it's one of those deals where you just say to yourself, hey,
- 3:30listen, are the Patriots going to be the Patriots from last year?
- 3:34Are they going to step up or are they just going to go and revert back to the
- 3:38old early 90s Patriots or something to that effect?
- 3:44Let's see. Time will tell. But Seattle, hey, listen, their defense,
- 3:46despite Sam Darnold going down in the first quarter, whatever it is,
- 3:51hey, they got that boy Jackson. You already know.
- 3:54Oh, I am for real. Let's go.
- 3:58But that was the final score, 13-10 Seattle. Drake made with that end zone where,
- 4:03you know, people are wondering whether or not he's going to be a good quarterback
- 4:06or he was just a one-year fluke or whatever. But let's see.
- 4:10Now, we move on to the Thursday game where typically in the NFL,
- 4:14we would have a Thursday opening.
- 4:17But the powers that be in the NFL, hey, listen, they want to be in every damn streaming app.
- 4:24Sooner or later, you're going to have to open an account in two just to watch
- 4:27one single game of football, just one game that's not going to be on TV.
- 4:31I'm telling you, you know, football's not even on TV anymore like that.
- 4:35I'll take it back. It's on the weekend. You know, we got the Fox and CBS,
- 4:39and then, you know, you got the, how can I say, the Sunday night game,
- 4:44so, you know, Peacock, you know, whatever it is.
- 4:47But on a Thursday, the 49ers going against the Rams, which it looked like they
- 4:53were playing more like the Lambs, Silence of the Lambs, because everybody in
- 4:57the Ram teams was silenced.
- 4:59You know what? You know, props to the 49ers.
- 5:02And I'm going to say that 49ers have been in the last for over a decade,
- 5:07even before, you know, when they had a hardball as a coach.
- 5:12The fact that the 49ers have been one of more consistent teams,
- 5:16the fact that, you know, with Lynch, you know, the general manager,
- 5:19whatever it is, this Ram, I mean, this 49ers team is a well-coached team.
- 5:24And, you know, to tell you what this team is, you know, the fact that Brock Purdy, Mr.
- 5:30Irrevelling, the person that got picked the last, that not even supposed to
- 5:35even touch one minute of football, happened to be the starting quarterback and having to excel.
- 5:40I would just want to say shout out to the 49ers because the Rams came here like
- 5:44a dream team from whatever team, but it was more like the silence of the lamb type team.
- 5:50Final score 49 is 27 Rams 7 A lot to think about And the fact that Miles Garrett,
- 5:56They're all American They traded the whole house For this individual That he's hurt I'm just saying.
- 6:02But you see, we wake up on a Sunday. That's what football is.
- 6:06Don't get me wrong. I love me those weekdays football once in a while.
- 6:11But Sundays, where is that? Woo, woo. And Sunday football is one of the most
- 6:17beautiful days, I tell you.
- 6:20I always say to every church that I've gone to, make sure that you end your
- 6:24service at 1130 in the morning.
- 6:26And if you want to do some late afternoon service, do it somewhere way late afternoon.
- 6:32Way late afternoon For 15 minutes Wait, listen With all props to the good Lord
- 6:37Jesus But I'm just saying.
- 6:40We need football Sundays Let's go And one of the most exciting games,
- 6:45I take a little strip of my little coffee here Got the little coffee love Let's
- 6:49go One of the more exciting games is the Saints And the Detroit Lions Which
- 6:54went to overtime Hey, listen I got that little red zone thing going on,
- 7:00In my laptop with, you know, hey, listen, shout out to, you know,
- 7:04the NFL that at least bringing that option and not, you know,
- 7:07going crazy and buying the whole NFL package.
- 7:09NFL Red Zone gives me the option to flip channel.
- 7:13I mean, not flip channel, but watch these channels, you know,
- 7:15and these touchdowns or whatever the case might be.
- 7:17I'll take it back. The touchdowns and then, you know, the person,
- 7:21the host there in the Red Zone just going crazy with the Lions and the Saints.
- 7:26The fact that the Lions, who won this game 31-10 in final overtime,
- 7:32they were dominating this game, but somewhere in the fourth quarter against the Saints.
- 7:37They let up. The Saints came back. They tied it. Well, the rest is history.
- 7:41The Saints, listen, they got the ball in a final overtime, but they wanted to
- 7:44go for the win. They did not get that two-point conversion.
- 7:48That's fine. But these are, you know, you live and you learn.
- 7:51But the Lions, once again, I'm one to kind of root for the Lions to make it to the Super Bowl.
- 7:57I'm rooting for once, you know, for the last three years, the Lions and Buffalo
- 8:02Bills, you know, these are two franchises that I hate. Listen,
- 8:05the Lions have never been into a Super Bowl.
- 8:08They were known for a championship team a long time ago, way before the Super Bowl.
- 8:13So let's go Detroit. But my concern with Detroit, it's always been in the last
- 8:18couple of years, is that they played with this, you know, I got to say,
- 8:23no pump on the gas type of deal for three quarters.
- 8:27And somewhere in the fourth quarter, they fatigued, they tired, boom.
- 8:31But the Lions came, and hey, the Lions hold off.
- 8:34They persevered 31-30 against the Saints. Let's go, New Orleans Saints.
- 8:38We move on to the next game, the Cincinnati Bengals against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- 8:46You already know Baker Mayfield with the big dollars doing the dollar sign, all that good stuff.
- 8:53But they played horrible in the first half, and they managed to make it a close
- 8:57game, which they did. But turnovers, turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.
- 9:02Defense couldn't stop the Bengals, but again, turnovers, turnovers.
- 9:05The Bengals, Cincinnati Bengals, 33-27 is the final score.
- 9:10You know, borrows, change. Hey, listen, Bengals is trying to get that.
- 9:16Kind of go over the hump in regards to getting back to being a contender for the AFC title.
- 9:23You know, you got a tremendous quarterback. You got tremendous receivers.
- 9:27You got a tremendous team here.
- 9:28You know, you give up some points here. You almost let up.
- 9:32And the Buccaneers, Buccaneers, I don't know. There are going to be a lot of
- 9:35question marks in the Buccaneers. But, hey, who knows? In that division,
- 9:39the NFC South, it's a wild division.
- 9:42Woo, let's get it. Next game, the Ravens. Baltimore Ravens led by Lamar Jackson
- 9:48versus the Indianapolis Colts.
- 9:50This was an interesting game.
- 9:54Lamar, I have not seen Lamar playing loosely in a while.
- 9:58And I always say that with Lamar, in regards to the previous coaching staff
- 10:02and whatnot, it looks like he was not having fun. He was tense,
- 10:05doing a lot. But in this game, he let loose.
- 10:09Throwing 18-0 to Flowers, who had like 150 yards. And he's on my fantasy.
- 10:13Let's go. In the first half.
- 10:16Imagine if he played the second half. He probably would have 200,
- 10:19maybe 250. Messing around, they probably tried to break the record.
- 10:23But the fact is that the Ravens was playing loose. Yeah, the Colts tried.
- 10:26The Colts tried. but they felt a little bit kind of short there.
- 10:31But the Colts are in a struggling, you know, kind of run here.
- 10:34Last year, I remember they started the year on fuego. People was like,
- 10:38okay, then Daniel Jones get hurt, and the rest is history.
- 10:42Despite Daniel Jones coming back, it's still the Colts are playing like that
- 10:45coach team with the team that have lost like six, seven in a row.
- 10:49A team that squander a playoff kind of opportunity there for what it's worth.
- 10:53But the Ravens, hey, listen, These are the games that the Ravens,
- 10:56Lamar Jackson, and the boys kind of, hey, they take it.
- 11:01It'll move on to another game that is one of those games, hey,
- 11:04Jacksonville versus Cleveland Browns or Jacksonville. Woof.
- 11:08And Jaguars, look, Jaguars, you know, they tend to.
- 11:12And I'm going to say that this year they're going to play with a chip on their
- 11:15shoulder. They're going to probably say it's this. We need to make it happen.
- 11:19We believe in ourselves. Some people question us.
- 11:22Some people question Trevor Lawrence. But the fact that the Jaguars came to
- 11:25the Browns, the Browns, hey, let's say the Browns is the Browns.
- 11:29And you get a win no matter how pretty, how ugly, but this was a pretty win.
- 11:33You get it from the Browns.
- 11:35The Browns, the Sean Watson and them, I mean, they just, they just,
- 11:39I don't know. Did they play football? I think they did. They scored 10 points, you know.
- 11:44But the fact that Jacksonville came in here, and once again, just get those dubs.
- 11:48Get the dubs that you know you have to get because you don't know down the line
- 11:53when, you know, some of these wins could come, you know, At a cause where it's
- 11:57going to be a little bit difficult Get them
- 11:59early as you can And this is the perfect example The Jacksonville Jaguars 34 Cleveland Browns
- 12:05You know 10 Cleveland whatever,
- 12:08We got the New York Jets versus the Tennessee Titans These are two teams They
- 12:13are not contenders They struggled last year They coming in this year with a
- 12:17lot of stuff going on Whatever it is,
- 12:21But these are one of these games Where you play And it doesn't matter You take
- 12:26these dubs and the Jets showed up.
- 12:28Titans, I don't know. Better you leave your heart, Tennessee.
- 12:32And the Jets, I mean, the Jets, it was not a pretty game. Not a pretty game at all.
- 12:38But the Jets take the win. The Titans, again, the Jets basically,
- 12:42you know, struggle a little bit here in terms of, you know, certain things,
- 12:47defense and offensive. But the Titans could capitalize.
- 12:50And these are one of those games. You take a W. You take it.
- 12:54So the Jets 23. The Titans 10. Let's see what happened in game two.
- 12:58The Buffalo Bills versus the Houston Texans.
- 13:01And it's one of those beautiful games Heading to this game Because the game
- 13:06was over there in Houston, Texas The fact that, you know, you kept on saying
- 13:11that Josh Allen just struggled against the Texans over there in Texas,
- 13:15It doesn't sound so weird You know, Houston, Texas playing Houston, Texas Whatever,
- 13:21But then, you know, Josh Allen balled out on this one The Bills win this one
- 13:2536-31, it was a good game CJ Stryer, look, these are two contenders We might
- 13:30see these two teams in a playoff.
- 13:33But these are one of those games that George Allen had to kind of get over the hump.
- 13:37The fact that the dude is like one in 10,000, one win with 10,000 loss against
- 13:44Houston over there in Houston, Texas.
- 13:47Keep saying Houston, Texas. I tell you, I get it.
- 13:50I get it. But the fact is that the Bills win. They hold on to it.
- 13:53It was an interesting game.
- 13:55But the Bills defense came towards at the end. Hey, listen, we'll grab it.
- 13:59Get that formal, whatever it is that they got. Bills 36. Hey,
- 14:02Bills. Bills is one of those contenders. So a great win like this, why not?
- 14:07Why not? You know, you live and you learn.
- 14:10Next game is the Steelers and Falcons.
- 14:13These are one of those toss-up games. You know, the Steelers' first year in
- 14:16a long time without their coach, Mike Tomlin.
- 14:18But, yeah, they got Aaron Rodgers,
- 14:20who's like 70 years old, who's not looking to retire any time soon.
- 14:25So he might be one of those players that might be in the Hall of Fame while
- 14:29playing at the same time.
- 14:30This probably might happen in NFL one time Gotta look into that I think it was
- 14:34a kick or something like that,
- 14:36But anyways Steelers win this game 20-13 Against the Atlanta Falcons The fact
- 14:42that this was what A little bit of the ugly game These are one of those ugly games that.
- 14:49It was ugly but yet pretty And the Steelers win by being the Steelers And the
- 14:54Falcons lose by being the Falcons basically,
- 14:57You know, you squander a league, whatever it is, the Steelers capitalize,
- 15:00defense, run the ball, whatever, hey, it's there.
- 15:05The Steelers win. That's what matters.
- 15:08Get those first up. Get that first up. Start the year with that,
- 15:11hey, one win and zero loss. That's how you start the year. Let's get it.
- 15:16We got the Chicago Bears, the Bears, versus the Carolina Panthers,
- 15:21and what a wild, wild game.
- 15:24If you tell me that the Panthers will score 37 points and lose,
- 15:28then you'll be like, okay, how much the other team scored?
- 15:3138, 39? No, 59.
- 15:35The Bears, 59. The Bears and the Carolina Panthers, 37.
- 15:39You're going to see these two teams. These two teams are interesting,
- 15:42especially Bryce Young, who picked up in his career, then struggled.
- 15:47Now Bryce Young is playing with confidence, but you know who's playing with some crazy confidence?
- 15:52That kid from the Bears Khalid Williams Khalid Williams,
- 15:57I'm going to be off the bat. I've been watching football for three decades,
- 16:01and the Bears and QB are not a thing.
- 16:04So the fact that you got this young quarterback in the helm in Chicago,
- 16:09listen, you put in 59 points or whatever your, you know, three touchdowns,
- 16:13whatever your dead age, Bears are going to be scary.
- 16:17They're going to be scary, I'm telling you.
- 16:20You know, especially in that NFC. NFC, the NFC is the NFC.
- 16:25But 59 to 37, gee. What the hell is that? A college football or a college basketball
- 16:31score? You know, where's that?
- 16:34But the Bears get that win. That's what it matters. Because this is what week one is.
- 16:39You get that dub. Then you got the Packers versus the Vikings.
- 16:43Interesting game, interesting game, interesting. Because the Packers is winning.
- 16:49Kyle Murray from Minnesota Vikings get hurt. What is it? In the second, whatever it is.
- 16:56What is it? The second draft, you know, Kyler Murray gets hurt.
- 17:00Crazy hit. Well, it's legal or not. That's besides the point.
- 17:05As people already know that Kyler Murray, Kyler Murray is 5'5",
- 17:10and when he puts a uniform, he's 5'6".
- 17:14With all due respect.
- 17:15But it's little frame in the NFL sometimes, you know. And once he went down,
- 17:20and I'm like, okay, here it goes, Vikings.
- 17:24And Packers was dominating. Boom, boom, boom. I think it was like 19 to zip
- 17:27to score. Then out of nowhere, Carson Wentz, the backup quarterback,
- 17:31veteran, start throwing it to Justin Jefferson. Start throwing it to everybody.
- 17:36Start throwing it to Jefferson again.
- 17:38Start throwing it to everybody. Start throwing it to Jefferson again.
- 17:41And the next thing, the Vikings put on 39 points.
- 17:44And the Packers had no answers. They were like, oh, okay. I guess JJ's back,
- 17:48meaning Justin Jefferson.
- 17:50Because, hey, he needs the ball. and pass them the rock.
- 17:54So the Vikings, they came in there. I mean, it looked like, again,
- 17:58in the first quarter, first whatever it is, it looked like, oh,
- 18:02we're going to have a Vikings, another Vikings.
- 18:04We're kind of, I'm not going to say, season. And, you know, they're going to
- 18:07be talking about the quarterback position. And you got this plethora,
- 18:11good receiver, especially Justin Jefferson. But whatever.
- 18:15That's the situation. Excuse me. That's the situation with that thing. Vikings get a win.
- 18:20Then we got the Las Vegas Raiders versus the Miami Dolphins,
- 18:26or what I like to call them, Miami Tuners.
- 18:29But the fact is, this is one of those games.
- 18:31Both franchise, you know, look into whatever it is that they look into,
- 18:35moving on with new, fresh blood.
- 18:38But the Raiders is the Raiders, and the Dolphins is the Dolphins.
- 18:41It was one of those games that either way, somebody had to win, and they needed a win.
- 18:46And the Raiders were a better team. physically, you know, running the ball,
- 18:51the quarterback position. You already know Cousins and all of them.
- 18:54And the Dolphins just had nothing.
- 18:57The Dolphins looked like a shell of a team that, you know, they looked different
- 19:00because, again, we were used to the, you know, the Mike McDaniel 2 or whatever,
- 19:05you know, kind of team that was scoring like 30, 40 points but still squandered the league.
- 19:10You know, now we got a Dolphins team that is called 13 and obviously giving
- 19:15up 27 is never a good thing.
- 19:17So the Raiders get this dub. Hey, listen, early in the season,
- 19:20week one, you take those wings.
- 19:23I think this, the next game, is the little upset of the kind of week in a sense.
- 19:28The Arizona Cardinals versus the Chargers. We heard Chargers.
- 19:33We heard Chargers all over. You already know. Chargers got a good team.
- 19:37Can they get over that hump? We don't know. But Cardinals with Jacoby and them,
- 19:42hey, listen, they put 26 points.
- 19:44Chargers looked a little bit lost on that kind of game. And I'm like,
- 19:48are they actually going to come back? Are they actually going to play?
- 19:52But the Cardinals were just like, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 19:55And they get the win. I think it might be the upset of the weekend in a sense.
- 20:00So that's where the Cardinals is at. Hey, 26-14, you take it.
- 20:04Don't matter, you know, whatever, a good team.
- 20:08If the Chargers is a good team, but the fact that they didn't play good and
- 20:10you beat them, you take that.
- 20:12Next game, the Eagles versus the Commanders. Good game.
- 20:16It was an interesting game because it was very competitive, but the Commanders
- 20:19fell short against the Eagles.
- 20:2124-22 But the Eagles is a contender The Commanders You already know now The QB is back,
- 20:30And let's see what the Commanders do But the fact that they fall short And it
- 20:33looked like there were You know Times that they probably could have Just gone
- 20:37over the hump Take a lead You know Stomp on the Eagles But you know The Eagles
- 20:41is the Eagles What can I say?
- 20:42Jalen Hurts All those people What can I say?
- 20:46You can never count them out And against your NFC East rival an opponent that
- 20:52you play twice a year you take a dub because that's very important.
- 20:56And then the Sunday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and my New York football
- 21:03Giants interesting game the Giants win 28 to 20 when the Giants beat the Cowboys
- 21:09let me tell you something,
- 21:11we don't beat the Cowboys like that and I've maybe there was a time where we,
- 21:16might have some matchup where we were beating the cowboys but for the 30 years
- 21:20that i've watched football,
- 21:23probably a little bit more. I'm going to say that 80% of those times of the
- 21:28years, the Cowboys has beat us twice. Remember, these are two NFC East rivals,
- 21:34so they played twice. You know, you already know, got the home-and-home game.
- 21:38But the fact that the Giants, it was an interesting game. It was one of those
- 21:41old-school pound and ground and, you know, whatever it is, and then, you know, the defense.
- 21:47You know, both defense, especially in the second half, which is strange because,
- 21:52you know, both teams just had the ball like maybe twice or three times in the second half.
- 21:56And those two or three times they would score, especially the Giants, I'll take it.
- 22:00But the defense was no call, no show in regard to the second half.
- 22:04But again, the Giants winning against the Cowboys is big, especially your,
- 22:09rival, your NFC East kind of thing because it's just like the Eagles,
- 22:13you beat your NFCA, you take those dubs because that could be,
- 22:17you know, No difference down the line if you become a playoff contender.
- 22:21So let's go, Giants. Let's go. And finally, the Monday night game between the Chiefs and the Broncos.
- 22:28You already know the Broncos is coming here with some high expectations,
- 22:32super high expectations.
- 22:34And they went to Kansas City as if their expectations was better than the team
- 22:39that still had Patrick Holmes and Kelsey or whatever it is. The Chiefs are the Chiefs.
- 22:45And every year they're going to be a contender.
- 22:47And the Broncos are coming here with high expectations. Don't forget who the Chiefs are.
- 22:52They represented the AFC. They have won Super Bowl.
- 22:55In the last 10 years, they won, what, three Super Bowls, whatever it is that they won.
- 22:59The fact that they repped, the fact that they still got the key players,
- 23:04the Broncos forgot that. I think a lot of people forgot that.
- 23:07You know, probably people are expecting the downhill of the Kansas City Chiefs,
- 23:11but not on Monday night. They put in 31 points, Broncos, 10.
- 23:15Broncos just looked at like, what the hell happened here?
- 23:18We're the young, hungrier team, but they just face the more veteran,
- 23:22better coached because, you know what, the Chiefs has a ship on their shoulders
- 23:27us like, hey, listen, AFC, we haven't forgotten.
- 23:32Remember who got the chips? Remember, we come there every once,
- 23:36every once, every two, three years, or whatever the case, and maybe this is
- 23:39that one year that they all head back to the Super Bowl. But let's see.
