- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome back to the Inside the Birds pregame show
- 0:13Speaker 1: featuring Greg Cosell. I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan, and
- 0:17Speaker 1: of course we have Greg Cosell. He always helps us
- 0:19Speaker 1: break down the tape of the Eagles and their opponent
- 0:22Speaker 1: and their opponent this week, I'm not quite sure there's
- 0:25Speaker 1: a whole lot of tape we needed to break down
- 0:27Speaker 1: of It's the two and eleven Raiders, And you know,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I was having this discussion with sort of both of
- 0:33Speaker 1: you guys, and I'm not trying to be mean or cruel,
- 0:36Speaker 1: but if you did a account of how many blue
- 0:40Speaker 1: chip players the Raiders have, it's probably the same number
- 0:45Speaker 1: of blue chip players the Eagles have in their secondary alone.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I mean Brock Bauers elite, Max Crosby elite, and when
- 0:53Speaker 1: he's healthy, we'll get into it. Colton Miller is a
- 0:55Speaker 1: very good left tackle. After that fellas, am I missing
- 0:58Speaker 1: a guy that is really, really good and maybe even
- 1:01Speaker 1: just having a bad year.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I don't think I am a good question.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It's a great question.
- 1:08Speaker 4: I mean, they got some solid, you know guys you'd
- 1:10Speaker 4: consider solid, like Jeremy is solid. Elandon Roberts has played
- 1:16Speaker 4: a long time.
- 1:17Speaker 3: He is what he is. He's good at it, right.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Devin White's kind of been reborn a little bit, but
- 1:22Speaker 4: I'm not sure, you know exactly put him in that category.
- 1:26Speaker 1: No, no, I don't think anything by the way, you know, Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 5: Yeah, Tackles is the worst way to evaluate a player
- 1:33Speaker 5: like you because it depends on the system where the
- 1:35Speaker 5: tax are fun to the scheme coaches. They the coaches
- 1:38Speaker 5: I know dismissed tackles. You know, it's tape first, where
- 1:42Speaker 5: you line up where you were you supposed to be,
- 1:44Speaker 5: and when you're on the field of lot because they're
- 1:46Speaker 5: a terrible football team with a terrible offense. Yeah, you're
- 1:48Speaker 5: gonna get a lot of tackles. But good for Devin White.
- 1:50Speaker 5: But yeah, no, Jeff, you're right. Although I know, I
- 1:53Speaker 5: know some folks are only like Dylan Parhams. I think
- 1:55Speaker 5: they're left guard. Yeah from uh from Ryan Simmerfield, former
- 1:59Speaker 5: school man.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I don't. But they're all lines not very good.
- 2:01Speaker 1: No, it's not. But here's the interesting thing about the Raiders,
- 2:07Speaker 1: all right. I don't care about the Week one win
- 2:09Speaker 1: over the Patriots because Week one is a big con
- 2:12Speaker 1: job and we all know it. For both teams. Really.
- 2:15Speaker 1: If you look at the Raiders' schedule, they have had
- 2:18Speaker 1: to play the Denver Broncos twice now in the last
- 2:21Speaker 1: five weeks. They've lost ten to seven and twenty four
- 2:24Speaker 1: to seventeen, so that's a combined total of ten points.
- 2:27Speaker 1: They played the Jaguars, they lost thirty to twenty nine,
- 2:30Speaker 1: lost by a point. They were seven to seven at
- 2:32Speaker 1: halftime with the Chargers two weeks ago and then lost
- 2:36Speaker 1: some steam there in the second half. I guess the
- 2:38Speaker 1: point I'm trying to make they lost by one to
- 2:39Speaker 1: the Bears is that they get off the bus, they
- 2:43Speaker 1: play you. They're not rolling over and dying. They're given
- 2:45Speaker 1: some good games to some good teams. And this is
- 2:48Speaker 1: an Eagles team right now. Can't take anybody lightly that
- 2:51Speaker 1: is struggling, not playing like a top five NFL team,
- 2:54Speaker 1: So anything can happen. But I'm just saying that the
- 2:58Speaker 1: Raiders will get off the bus and and do the
- 3:01Speaker 1: best they got And they've given some some good teams
- 3:03Speaker 1: some some fits already this year. That's the best you
- 3:07Speaker 1: can say about them.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's that's fair. They're still an NFL team. Look,
- 3:12Speaker 4: you mentioned they don't have stars, you know, except for
- 3:15Speaker 4: a few, but I mean there's they have a lot
- 3:17Speaker 4: of guys who are kind of solid NFL players. The
- 3:20Speaker 4: big issue for them, and will you know, get into
- 3:23Speaker 4: this to some degree I mentioned it already, is their
- 3:26Speaker 4: old line is playing with backups and it's really been
- 3:30Speaker 4: a problem. So that you know, that's that it's hard
- 3:33Speaker 4: to play, you know, when your old line is not
- 3:35Speaker 4: very good, it's just hard to play right.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And unfortunately for them, they don't have a Justin Herbert
- 3:41Speaker 1: like quarterback who can make something out of nothing the
- 3:44Speaker 1: way Herbert and their defense is not even nearer the
- 3:47Speaker 1: Chargers you know them in So that's going to be
- 3:49Speaker 1: their big issue. On top of that tropical storm. Kaplan,
- 3:53Speaker 1: what are we dealing with on Sunday at one o'clock? Yes,
- 3:56Speaker 1: that's right, Sunday one o'clock. The Eagles are actually playing
- 4:00Speaker 1: a Sunday one o'clock game.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Here.
- 4:03Speaker 1: There's a little snow in the forecast early.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Yeah, it comes for the games, which is irrelevant. What
- 4:07Speaker 5: matters is the win. Twenty eight to thirty miles an
- 4:10Speaker 5: hour again with the gusts man.
- 4:11Speaker 3: It's break it's as Sunday. Huh, what's that? Gust was
- 4:16Speaker 3: very windy on Sunday.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Yeah, Arry, Yeah, again, twenty eight to thirty miles an hour. Now,
- 4:20Speaker 5: now here's the interesting thing. Hurts has a strong picket,
- 4:23Speaker 5: does not? Uh So, And I know Pickett knows the
- 4:26Speaker 5: stadium obviously the Link. But that's a big deal man,
- 4:30Speaker 5: that that the wind is. We've seen it. It is
- 4:32Speaker 5: really hard to throw the ball in the wind if
- 4:35Speaker 5: you don't have a strong arm. In particular, so much
- 4:36Speaker 5: happened with Jared Goff here Detroit came into town and
- 4:39Speaker 5: that was a major factor.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yep, Chicago, Yeah, Chicago that the wind was worse.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Talking to people at the game, it was actually worse
- 4:46Speaker 5: than that game, and it sure showed it for both quarterbacks.
- 4:48Speaker 5: So you're right, twenty to thirty mine an hour gusts,
- 4:52Speaker 5: seventeen to twenty mile hour wins.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I also believe I saw the wind show was supposed
- 4:56Speaker 1: to get into negative. So it's going to be pretty
- 4:58Speaker 1: pretty frosty out there at the Link. So just another
- 5:02Speaker 1: obstruction for this Eagles offense that's trying to get going.
- 5:05Speaker 1: We're gonna talk a lot about that. As far as
- 5:07Speaker 1: injuries are concerned, we've talked about throughout the week. Lane
- 5:11Speaker 1: Johnson not not gonna play. Jalen Carter not practiced all
- 5:15Speaker 1: week out, not going to play. Got some I had
- 5:18Speaker 1: an interesting conversation with a sports physician about the PRP injections.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I know.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Cool.
- 5:24Speaker 1: We addressed it with Aaron Bordman, a former Eagles athletic
- 5:27Speaker 1: trailer trader. But we also got some more information that
- 5:30Speaker 1: I found really interesting. We'll get into that in a second.
- 5:33Speaker 1: But as for everybody else, let Landon Dickerson did return
- 5:37Speaker 1: to practice after I think he was out of practice
- 5:41Speaker 1: on one of the days, right, they said.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Yeah, minderstand was just that he's cleared, by the way.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Everyone else has been cleared for the game. Carter's out,
- 5:50Speaker 5: Fred Johnson's out, Cam Williams by the way, not that
- 5:52Speaker 5: they expect him to play the season. But the good
- 5:54Speaker 5: thing is he's recovered from a shoulder injury. But they
- 5:57Speaker 5: don't have any room for him. They'd have to cut
- 5:59Speaker 5: somebody to make for He's he needs an offseason. He's
- 6:01Speaker 5: developmental player, major project. But minuders saying was that the
- 6:06Speaker 5: light caff stream they he would have participated in the walkthrough. Well,
- 6:11Speaker 5: he did whatever they want him to do on Wednesday
- 6:13Speaker 5: was ever prescribed and then they didn't have him do
- 6:15Speaker 5: anything Thursday, and.
- 6:17Speaker 2: That was a smart thing. He took all the reps
- 6:18Speaker 2: on Friday. He's ready to go.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Charlie Hewlett, by the way, their long snapper. This doesn't
- 6:22Speaker 5: mean something. Yeah, he was activated off I our as
- 6:25Speaker 5: we expected. He's cleared. Fred Johnson is cleared. I know
- 6:28Speaker 5: he told him me he'd be ready to go. He
- 6:29Speaker 5: took all the ones, so he's ready to go. Jalen
- 6:32Speaker 5: Carter's out, and Zach Baum with that hand injury which
- 6:34Speaker 5: he had last week, he's cleared. So not that they're
- 6:37Speaker 5: totally healthy, but but but what I would watch in
- 6:40Speaker 5: this game is how Lannon Dickerson moves with a CAF injury.
- 6:43Speaker 5: And obviously this is a new injury with Fred Johnson,
- 6:46Speaker 5: who might see a lot of Max double X Crosby.
- 6:50Speaker 2: In this game.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yes, Max Crosby one of the few stars the Raiders have.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And obviously it will be a reunion of former Eagles
- 6:59Speaker 1: quarterback Kenny pay who has had quite the journey going
- 7:01Speaker 1: from Philadelphia to Cleveland to Las Vegas and will make
- 7:06Speaker 1: his return to Philadelphia. He'll be starting in place of
- 7:09Speaker 1: Gino Smith who is injured. So interesting there for the
- 7:13Speaker 1: Raiders apparently. I don't know Greg, if you watched the
- 7:17Speaker 1: Raiders taper now, but apparently Pickett looked pretty decent.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I watched. I watched pickets throws. Yeah, I watched
- 7:23Speaker 3: all the throws. He actually threw it pretty good.
- 7:25Speaker 2: His arm.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Again, I have no idea what the wind means. He's
- 7:28Speaker 4: he doesn't have a gun, no question, but he actually
- 7:30Speaker 4: threw the ball. I thought his arm looked a little
- 7:32Speaker 4: stronger in all the throws I saw from last week
- 7:36Speaker 4: than it did previously, So I don't know what that means,
- 7:39Speaker 4: but it just looked a little stronger.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And he threw the oh two years ago whenever.
- 7:44Speaker 5: His last year with the Steelers was so apparently he
- 7:46Speaker 5: put on a lot of mass on his upper body
- 7:49Speaker 5: because he knew he needed to get stronger.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And I know from talking to Steelers they felt that
- 7:53Speaker 2: his arm strength improved.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 5: I know, when you get the game situations, sometimes it
- 7:58Speaker 5: doesn't look that way. But on Greg's point, you saw
- 8:00Speaker 5: that the post route for the touchdown right over the middle.
- 8:03Speaker 3: That was a good throw, that very throw. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 3: that had over lots of the on it.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Yeah right, all right, all right, So it'll be interesting
- 8:10Speaker 1: to see Kenny pick it back. Who gets booed first,
- 8:13Speaker 1: the Raiders or the Eagles offense. That is the big
- 8:16Speaker 1: question in the game, because if the Eagles get the
- 8:19Speaker 1: ball first and go three and out, it might actually
- 8:21Speaker 1: be the Eagles getting booed. It has been that bad
- 8:24Speaker 1: for the Eagles offense. Now, we all spent throughout the week,
- 8:28Speaker 1: whether it was on Inside the Tape with Greg who
- 8:30Speaker 1: broke down the tape from the game against the Chargers,
- 8:32Speaker 1: or us on Inside the Birds, We've all discussed that
- 8:36Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni had a bigger role in the offensive design,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and then coming out of that, we saw what Greg
- 8:42Speaker 1: calls actual NFL modern pass concepts implemented into the offense.
- 8:48Speaker 1: And then we saw some decent execution with those concepts. However,
- 8:52Speaker 1: they get overshadowed by for five turnovers. Still bad on
- 8:58Speaker 1: third down, still not an impact run game. So the
- 9:02Speaker 1: discussion to have here is the reconciliation of trying to
- 9:06Speaker 1: add something new which you felt you needed and did
- 9:08Speaker 1: well at versus in doing so, you did not improve
- 9:12Speaker 1: your third down percentage, you did not secure the ball,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and where do you go from here? And I guess
- 9:19Speaker 1: what you have to wonder and I'll put this out
- 9:21Speaker 1: to both of you guys. Start with you, Greg Is.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I feel like the Eagles need to figure out if
- 9:27Speaker 1: last week was cause and effect or if last week
- 9:29Speaker 1: was just one step forward two steps backwards. Let's try
- 9:33Speaker 1: it again and try to eliminate the mistakes.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I think it has to be a case of your
- 9:37Speaker 4: building something you saw last week. There were a lot
- 9:40Speaker 4: of positives. You're not expecting four interceptions by your quarterback
- 9:43Speaker 4: every week. He rarely throws interceptions. We broke down pretty
- 9:47Speaker 4: much each one earlier in the week, so we're not
- 9:49Speaker 4: going to do that again. But that's not likely to happen.
- 9:53Speaker 4: But there was a lot of positives. I thought in
- 9:55Speaker 4: just the concepts and the route combinations that I saw,
- 9:58Speaker 4: you'd have to expect they saw too, you know.
- 10:02Speaker 3: So you'd have to expect it would continue. And this
- 10:06Speaker 3: is not a great defense by any means. There's no
- 10:08Speaker 3: shutdown corner here. There's a you know, there's just other
- 10:12Speaker 3: than Max Crosby, who potentially against Fred Johnson could post
- 10:17Speaker 3: problems on giving plays, But other than that, there's not
- 10:20Speaker 3: really this is not one of those defense where you
- 10:22Speaker 3: feel like, oh, we can't do certain things. So I
- 10:26Speaker 3: would expect them to continue on this path. And I'm
- 10:30Speaker 3: not going to sit here and say it's going to
- 10:31Speaker 3: be a breakout game and they're going to put up forty.
- 10:33Speaker 3: But there were a lot of positives and what I
- 10:35Speaker 3: saw in the pass game.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Last week, Greg, I want to ask a question the
- 10:38Speaker 5: corn erk Stokes was a guy I know a lot
- 10:40Speaker 5: of people in Scout did not like him when he
- 10:41Speaker 5: came out of Georgia.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Maybe play didn't play to the measurables. I know he
- 10:45Speaker 2: may have already come out.
- 10:48Speaker 5: I'm gonna think twenty one, maybe even before that, I'll
- 10:51Speaker 5: double check. Well, let's also talk about Darian Porters, a
- 10:54Speaker 5: tall corner rookie out of Iowa State.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Yeah, he's the rookie out of Iowa State who's got
- 10:58Speaker 4: length and in speed and an incredible forty time. You know,
- 11:02Speaker 4: he's been starting along with Stokes on UH and they're
- 11:06Speaker 4: one of those teams that plays big nickel basically as
- 11:08Speaker 4: their UH as their nickel defense. Jeremy Chin is their slot,
- 11:13Speaker 4: so you know, and they played dime and they play
- 11:16Speaker 4: a good amount of dimes. So yeah, but the corners
- 11:20Speaker 4: are essentially Stokes and Porter.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So yeah, Porter Jeff is sixth or eight. Good right,
- 11:29Speaker 2: I wanted to ask.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I agree with Greg, and I think you did too.
- 11:32Speaker 1: We'd all talked about you need a bigger sample size,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you need to continue to do this, you need to
- 11:37Speaker 1: try to continue to evolve your offense. And I find
- 11:41Speaker 1: it really interesting that at the beginning of the year
- 11:44Speaker 1: Jalen Hurtz and some other guys in the offense did
- 11:47Speaker 1: talk about the new iteration of their offense that really
- 11:50Speaker 1: did not exist until this past week, to be honest,
- 11:52Speaker 1: So a couple of things here under center jumbo. I
- 11:55Speaker 1: don't think that that really is quote unquote what they
- 11:58Speaker 1: had in mind. But when I don't know if you
- 12:00Speaker 1: heard Jillen Hurts his press conference on Wednesday, but I didn't.
- 12:06Speaker 1: He was asked about the newer concepts and some of
- 12:09Speaker 1: the things they did, and he kind of referred to
- 12:12Speaker 1: them as coach's decision.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Like I didn't.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I didn't hear from him, and his conferences are hard,
- 12:17Speaker 1: I'll admit to get anything from but I didn't hear
- 12:19Speaker 1: kind of a warm embrace of that what they did
- 12:24Speaker 1: and worked. I agree, So I would have thought that
- 12:29Speaker 1: Jalen would have made that point that, yes, it may
- 12:31Speaker 1: not have looked great in the outcome, but we did
- 12:34Speaker 1: take some steps or these were good things, and he
- 12:38Speaker 1: just sort of put it on the fact that this
- 12:41Speaker 1: was a coach's decision and it is what it is.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So I'm really curious going into this game, Adam, if
- 12:48Speaker 1: if he's as receptive to what we saw as positives
- 12:52Speaker 1: as we we were recepted to it just as analysts.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Right, well, there's always for this question because we know
- 12:59Speaker 5: he prefers shotgun.
- 13:01Speaker 2: How receptive is he is?
- 13:02Speaker 5: Is that the Eagles think the under centers a change up,
- 13:04Speaker 5: and the numbers are pretty good when he's under center,
- 13:06Speaker 5: they're actually very good. And Greg's always told us why
- 13:09Speaker 5: play action works much better when he's the quarterbacks.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:12Speaker 5: You know you've you've put it out many times Greg,
- 13:15Speaker 5: as long as we've done shows with you, So it's
- 13:17Speaker 5: a change up. It actually works when they've done the
- 13:20Speaker 5: Harriet Hurts is pretty good. Fact, I remember, Greg, you
- 13:22Speaker 5: gave us the numbers last year. Hurts, his numbers were
- 13:24Speaker 5: phenomenal when they win Harry up. But again, it's a
- 13:26Speaker 5: change up. That's what you need to do. You need
- 13:30Speaker 5: to get your quarterback into a rhythm and you need
- 13:33Speaker 5: to have him feel good about it. Then the other
- 13:35Speaker 5: thing is the defense, and you see how they react
- 13:38Speaker 5: to it, and they it's they've got what they've wanted. Yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 5: they're usually good. It's as Petula talked about, usually very good.
- 13:43Speaker 2: In the red zone.
- 13:44Speaker 5: They had some problems. Some thing's happened with you, like again,
- 13:47Speaker 5: you're gonna have five turnovers. I mean, that's ridiculous. The
- 13:50Speaker 5: fun that the doing the same play, We're insane time.
- 13:53Speaker 5: We're not gonna happen again. And then, by the way,
- 13:54Speaker 5: not all the picks were on him, So if it
- 13:58Speaker 5: holds up, yes, you could throw it.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Again.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Ark Stokes is a corner that not a lot of
- 14:03Speaker 2: people are in the league liked. They brought him in.
- 14:07Speaker 2: You know, you he's Greg just talked about it. You
- 14:10Speaker 2: could go after these guys.
- 14:12Speaker 4: The other thing two which they did a lot of
- 14:14Speaker 4: Adam and Jeff, which we talked about earlier in the week,
- 14:17Speaker 4: was empty sets. They were an empty yes times and
- 14:21Speaker 4: obviously that was a change that was clearly made and
- 14:25Speaker 4: we don't know if that was a function of the
- 14:26Speaker 4: opponent or whether that's something they want to do more of.
- 14:30Speaker 4: You know, the thought behind going empty very often, and
- 14:34Speaker 4: it's not the only thought, but normally the thought. One
- 14:37Speaker 4: thought is that the defense has to declare because you're
- 14:41Speaker 4: spread out, they can't do as much pre snap adjustment,
- 14:45Speaker 4: they can't do much disguise, they can't do as much rotation.
- 14:49Speaker 4: They have to get to where they are. So we'll
- 14:52Speaker 4: see if they do more of that this week. But
- 14:54Speaker 4: at fifteen snaps, there were fifteen dropbacks out of empty
- 14:57Speaker 4: last week.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Right, And ordinarily that is a formation that they want
- 15:01Speaker 1: to run out of with the quarterback design runs. That
- 15:04Speaker 1: wasn't the case though, they want to throw out of
- 15:07Speaker 1: that formation. I think there was one sort of fake
- 15:09Speaker 1: run or maybe they were going to run but the
- 15:11Speaker 1: hole was clouded. But yeah, I thought that was really
- 15:13Speaker 1: interesting wrinkle as well also Gregg. When when teams go
- 15:16Speaker 1: empty like that, doesn't it also invite a defense to
- 15:20Speaker 1: want to blitz and therefore it's a way of getting
- 15:23Speaker 1: the ball out of It could be a way of
- 15:24Speaker 1: getting the ball out of your hands quickly into defined reads.
- 15:28Speaker 3: It can be.
- 15:28Speaker 4: I mean, it depends on the defense, you know. Some
- 15:31Speaker 4: I mean I remember hearing Rex Whye Ryan always talked that, hey,
- 15:34Speaker 4: if you go empty, we're hitting your quarterback, you know,
- 15:37Speaker 4: he's a big blitz guy, right, Not every coach is
- 15:40Speaker 4: a big blitz guy. And you know, Patrick Graham for
- 15:43Speaker 4: the most part, you know, they've not been a high
- 15:46Speaker 4: percentage blitz defense this year. They very rarely used defensive
- 15:50Speaker 4: backs as blitzers, so it's it's linebackers, so you know,
- 15:54Speaker 4: but they're not relative to the rest of the NFL. Jeff,
- 15:57Speaker 4: they're not a high percentage blitz defense. Now again, they
- 16:00Speaker 4: could see this week. You see, that's the thing. You
- 16:03Speaker 4: never know when it comes to a specific opponent how
- 16:06Speaker 4: a team is going to play. But just in general philosophically,
- 16:09Speaker 4: they're not a high percentage of its defense.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Especially a team that has nothing to lose. They're out
- 16:14Speaker 1: of the playoff phrase, they're just looking to make everybody
- 16:17Speaker 1: else's life miserable and spoil other teams.
- 16:21Speaker 3: And you know, it's funny you say that, because I'm
- 16:23Speaker 3: not sure coaches think like I mean, again, they're human beings,
- 16:27Speaker 3: so I'm not saying they never that never crosses their mind.
- 16:30Speaker 4: But I think coaches and you guys would probably agree
- 16:33Speaker 4: with this. They just show up and they prepare and
- 16:36Speaker 4: they just want to, you know, get the guys ready,
- 16:38Speaker 4: and they want to win on Sunday. You know, now,
- 16:40Speaker 4: the head coach might decide in a given situation because
- 16:44Speaker 4: they're not fighting for a playoff spot, you know, hey,
- 16:46Speaker 4: we're going to go for it, whereas.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Maybe he wouldn't have gone for it in a different situation.
- 16:50Speaker 3: But in terms of the week of preparation, the coaches
- 16:53Speaker 3: aren't saying, oh, we got nothing to lose. Let's say,
- 16:55Speaker 3: you know they're prepared. Yeah you didn't that, yeah, man,
- 17:00Speaker 3: that coaches don't think like that.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Right, And I was getting that sort of that subconscious
- 17:03Speaker 1: element of you where you're not afraid to take a
- 17:05Speaker 1: risk at a certain time, where all the way you
- 17:10Speaker 1: might not call it at that moment because you're teetering
- 17:12Speaker 1: on the on the playoff you know what.
- 17:14Speaker 5: I'm sure, right, right, right though, Jeff, when the Cardinals
- 17:17Speaker 5: came in here, right, I'm sure when we did a
- 17:19Speaker 5: pregame show, we thought there's no way the Eagles would lose.
- 17:22Speaker 5: That's an example of a bad football team that had
- 17:24Speaker 5: nothing to lose. It's not like they're in practice, Okay,
- 17:27Speaker 5: we got nothing to lose. We're going to call this,
- 17:28Speaker 5: that and the other. But you come in feeling, you
- 17:31Speaker 5: know what, we're on the road here, no one thinks
- 17:34Speaker 5: who he can win to. This does happen and sometimes
- 17:37Speaker 5: you gavan at yourself. Now, obviously we were hoping Chip
- 17:40Speaker 5: Kelly would be here so they can get booed.
- 17:41Speaker 2: And I'm just kidding.
- 17:42Speaker 5: But my old friend Greg Olsen, who's going to come
- 17:45Speaker 5: in here, and this is only loves to throw the football.
- 17:47Speaker 5: But so what happened when broad Shatt I never wanted
- 17:50Speaker 5: to throw the football, got fired despite doing a great job.
- 17:54Speaker 5: This is gonna be fascinating because it's coaching for you
- 17:57Speaker 5: of Carol's not easy. It's not even talk to any
- 17:59Speaker 5: offensive coaches work for him. It's gonna it's gonna be
- 18:02Speaker 5: interesting to see what, if anything they bring out here.
- 18:05Speaker 5: They're not the most talent team. Uh, they have trouble scoring.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Genty has not been very good. Greg looks like a
- 18:12Speaker 5: genius when it comes to have the versus genty. Greg
- 18:15Speaker 5: took a lot of flack on that one on he
- 18:17Speaker 5: got I actually saw that stuff.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Greg.
- 18:19Speaker 5: People thought you're out of your mind, like in Hampton
- 18:21Speaker 5: over genty, But you could see it, Jeff.
- 18:23Speaker 2: You know he runs to contact. What is that?
- 18:26Speaker 3: Well? You know the thing too, is you talk about
- 18:28Speaker 3: throwing the ball. Then you have to start dealing with
- 18:30Speaker 3: your own line. And this is not a very good
- 18:32Speaker 3: old line.
- 18:33Speaker 4: And you know they're playing with backups. Stone forth Ice
- 18:36Speaker 4: is they're left tackle. He's again I remember evaluating him
- 18:40Speaker 4: coming out of Florida. I think most people would probably
- 18:43Speaker 4: say he's a number three tackle, not a number not
- 18:45Speaker 4: even a number of tack They just started playing Caleb Rodgers,
- 18:49Speaker 4: who's a rookie at right guard. They're playing Gate Glaze
- 18:53Speaker 4: at right tackle. So I mean, this is not if
- 18:56Speaker 4: you're gonna throw the ball. You know, you have to
- 18:58Speaker 4: feel good that you can protect and uh, you know again,
- 19:01Speaker 4: I'm not sure how how strongly they feel about that.
- 19:04Speaker 1: All right, now, we didn't get through all the Raiders' injuries.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I mentioned Pickett. It's going to start now. Colton Miller
- 19:10Speaker 1: is a good left tackle that we mentioned who has
- 19:13Speaker 1: been on IR He has practiced in some form or
- 19:16Speaker 1: fashion with the Raiders this week. But it'll be interesting
- 19:20Speaker 1: to see if there's like a late uh you know,
- 19:22Speaker 1: a deadline move where they activate him and want to
- 19:25Speaker 1: play him. I don't I don't know why they were Well,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you're right, coaches don't always think that way. If a
- 19:29Speaker 1: guy's healthy and he wants to, they'll play it.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah, he's going to play it. Yeah yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:35Speaker 5: By the way, he's been out since week five. He's
- 19:37Speaker 5: significant high ankle spraining Colton Miller. Right, well, yeah, what's that?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Wasn't there also a fracture involved?
- 19:44Speaker 5: It might have been, but yeah, it was a significant injury.
- 19:46Speaker 5: So he hadn't played since. He hasn't played since week four.
- 19:49Speaker 5: He got hurt in week four. So this is a
- 19:51Speaker 5: big deal here, and you and I Jeff are talking
- 19:54Speaker 5: off there. This is a pick the John grud made.
- 19:56Speaker 5: He kind of comedy your personnel anyway in twenty eighteen
- 20:00Speaker 5: that he got eviscerated on Colton Miller is terrible. He's gangly,
- 20:03Speaker 5: not strong. He's been a good football player. I worked,
- 20:06Speaker 5: he done a good job.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, any other Adam injuries that really are I mean again,
- 20:12Speaker 1: this is not a very talented team, so even the
- 20:14Speaker 1: start very good.
- 20:15Speaker 5: But this kid, Dante Thompson, so he had a fourth
- 20:18Speaker 5: rounder out of what you dubbed Greg if I'm not mistaken, Yeah, yeah,
- 20:27Speaker 5: Dante Thornton.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, is he you dubbed? No, he's he was
- 20:31Speaker 3: Tennessee why did I was sinking Tennessee. Yes. And the
- 20:37Speaker 3: six five kid who ran a four to three at
- 20:39Speaker 3: the com.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Well, he had some kind of training camp. Dante Thornton
- 20:42Speaker 5: d n T prospercut. Yeah, he can run now he
- 20:46Speaker 5: got he had a concussion. He's very wrong. He needs
- 20:48Speaker 5: to work, but he could be gone this we well,
- 20:50Speaker 5: he needs to be cleared out of protocol if he does.
- 20:52Speaker 2: He's playing.
- 20:53Speaker 5: So he's a guy you gotta watch. I know he
- 20:55Speaker 5: hadn't done much. And Trey Tucker could run. He's a
- 20:57Speaker 5: smaller guy. These are guys you don't want starting if
- 21:00Speaker 5: you're if the Raiders. But they traded, uh, they traded
- 21:04Speaker 5: the slot receiver, the kid they got from the Patriots
- 21:06Speaker 5: to Yea.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Now, I know I noticed last week when and it
- 21:11Speaker 4: was a little bit of garbage time because they weren't
- 21:13Speaker 4: going to win the game.
- 21:14Speaker 3: So I don't know if he just played because it
- 21:16Speaker 3: was garbage time. But I noticed that that Kenny Pickett
- 21:19Speaker 3: did seem to have a nice connection with Jack Besh,
- 21:21Speaker 3: So I don't know if he's going to get more
- 21:23Speaker 3: snaps this week.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Question round pick out of TCU.
- 21:26Speaker 2: If I'm a lot of people in the thought was
- 21:29Speaker 2: really high for him, but Greg, let's talk about it.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Oh, I liked his tape a lot. What what do
- 21:33Speaker 3: you like? Where should he.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Light up as a pro? What do you see him
- 21:36Speaker 2: lighting up?
- 21:37Speaker 4: He's He's not going to be an ex you know.
- 21:40Speaker 4: He's probably more of a movement guy's big, he's physical.
- 21:44Speaker 4: I'm going back to my evaluation because I did like
- 21:47Speaker 4: him a lot.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Do they while you look for that? Do the Raiders
- 21:51Speaker 1: have a true X receiver? No?
- 21:54Speaker 2: No, Yeah, I know is thin, but could he play it?
- 21:59Speaker 2: Who Docty Thornton? Can he play X?
- 22:03Speaker 1: Uh?
- 22:04Speaker 4: He'd have to grow into that over time. He's never
- 22:07Speaker 4: been a volume receiver before in college, that is sure.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So how do they get How do the Raiders strategize
- 22:14Speaker 1: without a natural acts? Do they just reduce split and well?
- 22:18Speaker 4: They play a lot out of twelve personnel because Bowers
- 22:21Speaker 4: is essentially a wide receiver, He'll be their boundary ex
- 22:24Speaker 4: At times, you're dealing with a guy that is, you know, athletically.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I'm trying to.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Think of the other tight ends in the league. He
- 22:32Speaker 4: may be the most purely athletic tight end in the league.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I could be missing someone, but he's certainly right there,
- 22:39Speaker 4: you know.
- 22:39Speaker 3: You're dealing with. He's a terrific football player.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so Michael Myers their number two chetd end. Who's
- 22:44Speaker 2: their why you know who is?
- 22:45Speaker 3: And he's a number ten?
- 22:47Speaker 5: Right, he's hurt, he's got an ancho injury. Now, Ian
- 22:50Speaker 5: Thomas came up from the Panthers. He was feeling in
- 22:53Speaker 5: as the why he's got a calf injury. So Greg
- 22:56Speaker 5: talked about their offensive lines bottom three in the National
- 22:59Speaker 5: Football let's be out of about it. Now you got
- 23:01Speaker 5: these tight end injuries, it's you want to know why
- 23:04Speaker 5: they can't score them?
- 23:04Speaker 2: And we just gave you the answers.
- 23:07Speaker 4: So the next guy up is, believe it or not,
- 23:08Speaker 4: a guy from towsanend named Carter Runyon. And he could
- 23:11Speaker 4: well he could well, you know, get a lot of snaps,
- 23:15Speaker 4: but it's.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Not John Runyan Sun because it's r U N y
- 23:18Speaker 2: O N. Just for people gonna ask, go ahead, right,
- 23:21Speaker 2: got it back.
- 23:22Speaker 1: To the Raiders defense against the Eagles offense and what
- 23:25Speaker 1: we expect from the Eagles offense.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Uh.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I think I think what we all would hope is
- 23:32Speaker 1: that because of the four turnovers, the quarterback does not
- 23:35Speaker 1: like turtle up a little bit and decide that he's
- 23:38Speaker 1: not gonna throw those beautiful passes between the numbers that
- 23:42Speaker 1: he threw last week because he wants to just keep
- 23:45Speaker 1: it simple and.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Not you know, by the way.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So the Raiders, Greg they interestingly you said
- 23:52Speaker 1: they don't blitz, but they lead the NFL in stack
- 23:56Speaker 1: box percentage by quite a bit. So it sounds like
- 24:00Speaker 1: what Patrick Graham does is play a lot of guys
- 24:02Speaker 1: at the line of scrimmage in the box. But he
- 24:05Speaker 1: shows a lot of things, but probably does not bring
- 24:07Speaker 1: everybody right.
- 24:09Speaker 4: And look, you know, the Eagles, I would assume, are
- 24:12Speaker 4: still going to look to run the football. That's who
- 24:14Speaker 4: they are really And we talked about the fact that
- 24:18Speaker 4: last week in the first half, I thought they did
- 24:21Speaker 4: it well. Now, just a quick thought on their run game,
- 24:24Speaker 4: you know, the one thing they don't do a lot of,
- 24:27Speaker 4: and the way the offensive line is right now with
- 24:29Speaker 4: Dickerson probably you know, playing through injuries and not being
- 24:33Speaker 4: as mobile as he might normally be. Jurgens hasn't looked
- 24:37Speaker 4: as mobile this year as he did a year ago.
- 24:40Speaker 4: We've seen my a lot of struggle at times. One
- 24:43Speaker 4: thing they don't do a lot of.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Is gap scheme and to me, it makes more sense
- 24:49Speaker 3: with the state of their offensive line to do that
- 24:51Speaker 3: because your zone run game requires athletic movement, you know
- 24:54Speaker 3: that synchronized swimming the athletic movement. And they don't run
- 24:58Speaker 3: a lot of gap scheme where you can double a
- 25:00Speaker 3: point of attack. You know, you can you know, pull
- 25:02Speaker 3: a guard, which is not the same kind of athleticism
- 25:05Speaker 3: as a zone run game. And and could you know,
- 25:09Speaker 3: you don't see a lot of that. And again I'm
- 25:11Speaker 3: not in their meetings, but it just seems to me
- 25:13Speaker 3: that that makes sense.
- 25:15Speaker 1: It's interesting because I feel like they used to do
- 25:17Speaker 1: it more, even when they had great athletes like Jason Peters.
- 25:20Speaker 1: They would run tackle traps at the time. Yeah, don't
- 25:24Speaker 1: do that anymore. I don't know why or what.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Well, they're also playing with a backup right tackling while
- 25:30Speaker 4: he hasn't certainly Fred Johnson has not been bad. You're
- 25:33Speaker 4: not considering, oh my god, you can't put him out
- 25:35Speaker 4: there by any stretch. He's probably been solid, but he's
- 25:38Speaker 4: still a backup right tackle.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you would think my Allota with his rugby brock
- 25:42Speaker 1: brounds a background a guy you could pull a little
- 25:44Speaker 1: bit or trap a little bit, and I'm not sure
- 25:47Speaker 1: they've done that all year long.
- 25:48Speaker 3: You know, this way, they could really get some doubles
- 25:50Speaker 3: at the point.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Yeah, move people you know that were quarriers obviously less
- 25:56Speaker 4: athleticism than it does, more strength and you know, but
- 25:59Speaker 4: they don't really do very much of that.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Jeff.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Remember remember early in the season, first three or four weeks,
- 26:05Speaker 5: we're blown away how they would basically not run on
- 26:08Speaker 5: the outside.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, we couldn't.
- 26:10Speaker 5: We'd asked Greg on inside of the tape, Hey, Greg,
- 26:13Speaker 5: have you've seen this? And Greg would go, you know what,
- 26:15Speaker 5: now I think about it, they're not doing it, but
- 26:16Speaker 5: we didn't know why.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Well, still kind of the.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Same issue now, although they did run fairly well outside
- 26:22Speaker 5: last week. But overall, Jeff, it just seems to me
- 26:27Speaker 5: that the lack of physical nature of this offensive line
- 26:30Speaker 5: in terms of being healthy for whatever reason, they're just
- 26:33Speaker 5: not the same line. And it's absolutely been the same
- 26:36Speaker 5: thing the entire season. They've really not gotten close to
- 26:39Speaker 5: what they were last season.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So here's another interesting observation. And I'm wondering how it's
- 26:43Speaker 1: gonna work out.
- 26:45Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:45Speaker 1: The only I've watched two games the Raiders last played
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Broncos and the Chargers, and both of those teams
- 26:51Speaker 1: were very, very aware, as every team is of Max Crosby.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I don't think I saw too many snaps where there
- 26:57Speaker 1: wasn't a chip, a double team. There a triple team
- 27:00Speaker 1: on a hail Mary. Then I saw, you know, on
- 27:03Speaker 1: a three man rush, they still triple team them. So
- 27:07Speaker 1: he's gonna line up over right tackle Greg, That's where normal.
- 27:10Speaker 4: The most part, they move him around there at times
- 27:13Speaker 4: he's a joker, but I would say for the most part,
- 27:17Speaker 4: he is clearly lining up on on the left side
- 27:19Speaker 4: of the defense.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Right, so that means he's going to be lining up
- 27:23Speaker 1: across Fred Johnson at right tackle. I would imagine, even
- 27:27Speaker 1: though we know that Eagles don't love to help out
- 27:30Speaker 1: their tackles, that they may have to be in that scenario.
- 27:33Speaker 1: And then who are you using? Are you using Cam
- 27:36Speaker 1: Latu more? Are you trying to get Greg Kalkatara out there?
- 27:39Speaker 1: Because you want to be able right to be able
- 27:42Speaker 1: to pass the ball to Goddter, but be able to
- 27:45Speaker 1: help your right tackle out with some with with additional blocking.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So Greg, what do you think, Hey, it's Jeff Mosher
- 27:51Speaker 1: And if you have a family and kids at home

- 30:40Speaker 3: Ah, that's a great question.
- 30:41Speaker 4: I mean it will depend on the down and distance
- 30:43Speaker 4: and then you know the situation. I would doubt you'd
- 30:46Speaker 4: see that in early downs, you know, because the nature
- 30:51Speaker 4: of the offense and what the play calls will be
- 30:53Speaker 4: will likely not demand it. And just by the way
- 30:55Speaker 4: he's lined up on the left side, let's see six
- 31:01Speaker 4: and about six hundred and seventy times in seven hundred
- 31:04Speaker 4: and ninety four snaps a lot.
- 31:06Speaker 1: That's a lot of going over the right tackle Fred
- 31:09Speaker 1: Johnson's nightmare this week.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, they'll have a Yeah, I think that's like
- 31:13Speaker 4: I said, definitely a function of down. And you know,
- 31:16Speaker 4: if it's third and nine, you've got to be aware
- 31:18Speaker 4: you're probably not going to let him, let Fred Johnson
- 31:21Speaker 4: block him one on one.
- 31:23Speaker 3: But if you're a normal down in distant situations where
- 31:25Speaker 3: you're not going to have deep drops and even if
- 31:27Speaker 3: you throw it, you're probably more in a timing rhythmic
- 31:30Speaker 3: type concept, then you may not need to do that. Now,
- 31:34Speaker 3: he may win a couple of times quick, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 3: because he's that good, and Johnson is obviously a backup.
- 31:40Speaker 3: But you know, it's funny. I almost think back to
- 31:43Speaker 3: what the.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Believe it or not, what the Titans did last week
- 31:45Speaker 4: against Miles Garrett, who was not a factor as a
- 31:48Speaker 4: pass rusher at all, and going into that game, everybody
- 31:50Speaker 4: would have said, oh my god, he's going to break
- 31:52Speaker 4: the record this week against the Titans, and obviously.
- 31:55Speaker 3: You know that did not happen.
- 31:57Speaker 2: They do, by the way, what did they wind up
- 31:58Speaker 2: doing well?
- 32:00Speaker 4: The way they play the First of all, they did
- 32:01Speaker 4: what the Eagles are not going to do, which they
- 32:03Speaker 4: played a lot with six oer Lignemen.
- 32:05Speaker 3: I don't think, well, maybe the Eagles will do that.
- 32:07Speaker 4: They have done it at times this season, and they
- 32:10Speaker 4: had a lot of what we call five man surfaces,
- 32:13Speaker 4: you know, so it made it hard, and then when
- 32:15Speaker 4: they threw it, everything was quick, you know they So
- 32:18Speaker 4: I mean, there's ways to deal with that. Sure, you know,
- 32:21Speaker 4: Garrett only had one sack and it came on a scheme,
- 32:24Speaker 4: not on beating a guy, So you know there's ways
- 32:27Speaker 4: to do it. But of course, the Titans last week
- 32:30Speaker 4: also ran for one hundred and eighty yards. So if
- 32:32Speaker 4: you can run the ball really well and control the game,
- 32:35Speaker 4: you know, it really minimizes a pass rusher. So we'll
- 32:38Speaker 4: see if the Eagles do. You know, it's an interesting game.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Just to make a final point. I don't want to
- 32:43Speaker 4: feel like I'm the only one talking here, but it's
- 32:45Speaker 4: an interesting point because you look at this game and
- 32:47Speaker 4: you feel like they can run the ball, and I
- 32:50Speaker 4: know they haven't run well most of the season, but
- 32:52Speaker 4: you look at it and feel like they can and
- 32:54Speaker 4: run well. But then you also look at the corners
- 32:56Speaker 4: and feel like, hey, maybe we can do some damage
- 32:58Speaker 4: on the outside. So you know, what's the balance there?
- 33:03Speaker 1: Right, Listen, this might not be a bad idea this
- 33:07Speaker 1: week to work a little bit backwards come out with
- 33:09Speaker 1: your jumbo under center. The path out of that, because
- 33:12Speaker 1: that's when you're going to have your most protection against Crawlton.
- 33:15Speaker 1: You're not going to throw them on the field as
- 33:16Speaker 1: an extra tackle on third and seven because then you're
- 33:19Speaker 1: losing a weapon.
- 33:20Speaker 2: You're not doing the past game right.
- 33:21Speaker 1: So yeah, it may help you to work a little
- 33:23Speaker 1: backwards to use the pass early to set up the run,
- 33:26Speaker 1: but not forget the run, which they might have done
- 33:28Speaker 1: a little bit last last week.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Well, if you look at Jeff if you look at
- 33:32Speaker 5: the last two opponents or two out of last year,
- 33:35Speaker 5: they were the Raiders run defense was they got ran
- 33:39Speaker 5: on RJ. Harvey had a good game against him last week.
- 33:42Speaker 5: The Broncos ran for well over one hundred yards.
- 33:46Speaker 2: They don't have a great front.
- 33:47Speaker 5: We know Thomas Booker, we need to mention them old Eagle,
- 33:49Speaker 5: but Eagles could probably use it for a little bit
- 33:51Speaker 5: for depth. But it's not a big deal. Barron Young's
- 33:54Speaker 5: doing a good job. He's been a nice story development.
- 33:57Speaker 2: But their team.
- 33:57Speaker 5: Adam Butler, if you really follow league, might remember them
- 34:00Speaker 5: from the Patriots, who's been with the Raider for a
- 34:03Speaker 5: little bit. They just don't have anyone who's a great
- 34:05Speaker 5: run stopper. So yeah, this is a good opportunity to
- 34:08Speaker 5: I hate TV uses term we try not to establish
- 34:11Speaker 5: the run, which is kind of a myth you can't cut,
- 34:13Speaker 5: which it basically means you could come out running and
- 34:15Speaker 5: see if you could establish something and feel good about
- 34:18Speaker 5: yourself in that area.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that's also a way to keep Max Frosbie off
- 34:21Speaker 1: your quarterback is to try to run the ball. Ye,
- 34:23Speaker 1: Unfortunately we can't at this point of the season. Maybe
- 34:28Speaker 1: last year, certainly this year not. We can't say, hey,
- 34:31Speaker 1: the Chargers and the Broncos ran the ball really well
- 34:35Speaker 1: against the Raiders, so the Eagles shoul this should be
- 34:39Speaker 1: something they might want to look at, because the Eagles
- 34:41Speaker 1: have not run the ball well against anybody outside of
- 34:45Speaker 1: one game against the Giants that's literally it. Even last
- 34:48Speaker 1: week was not an impactful run game. So I think
- 34:51Speaker 1: that they would have loved to have looked at tape
- 34:53Speaker 1: at teams this year and say, hey, we can get
- 34:56Speaker 1: at this team, we can run on this team, and
- 34:58Speaker 1: I'm sure they've tried, but it just has happen. So
- 35:01Speaker 1: sometimes we talk about the Eagles with that mentality of
- 35:03Speaker 1: what they used to just like come out passing well.
- 35:05Speaker 1: They they're not passing the ball very well, right, And
- 35:09Speaker 1: my concern with hurts On and Crosby is, to your point, Greg,
- 35:13Speaker 1: is that even if it's quick time, quick rhythm, he
- 35:16Speaker 1: heads that there. If he doesn't see it, he holds
- 35:18Speaker 1: onto it and then he drifts a little bit right,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and then you're playing right into it. Then you're then
- 35:22Speaker 1: you're making Fred Johnson have to block this guy for
- 35:25Speaker 1: a lot longer than you want.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Fred Johnson Black, Yeah, I mean, you know, it's this
- 35:30Speaker 3: stuff's always hard, you know, it's it's difficult. I mean,
- 35:35Speaker 3: you know, I was really kind of pleased with or
- 35:38Speaker 3: I saw on tape last week. I thought it was
- 35:39Speaker 3: really good. You know, Let's see if they can continue
- 35:42Speaker 3: doing that kind of thing. You know, look, obviously this
- 35:47Speaker 3: has not been a great offense this year, but on
- 35:49Speaker 3: another level, you could almost say, think of it this way.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Last year they had an historic run running game, you know,
- 35:58Speaker 3: with Barkley getting over two thousand and probably would have
- 36:00Speaker 3: broken the record if he played the last week. Okay,
- 36:03Speaker 3: you knew you weren't going to get that, but you
- 36:05Speaker 3: certainly probably expected that he'd be in the fourteen fifteen hundred,
- 36:08Speaker 3: maybe sixteen hundred. I mean, that's what you'd probably expected.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, we've talked about this before the fact
- 36:16Speaker 4: that Jalen Hurts is really good at certain things.
- 36:20Speaker 3: You know, nor look, last week was an aberration. He's
- 36:22Speaker 3: not gonna throw four picks. Okay, that's an aberration, you know.
- 36:26Speaker 3: So he's really good at being kind of a risk averse,
- 36:29Speaker 3: doesn't turn the ball over, plays within a certain context,
- 36:34Speaker 3: does that well, you know, normally, what we've seen in
- 36:37Speaker 3: the past is they're very good at getting to short
- 36:40Speaker 3: yardage situations where you know, the tush push becomes a factor,
- 36:44Speaker 3: or it's fourth and three, and they have really nicely
- 36:47Speaker 3: designed little quickie plays that game, you know, six yards.
- 36:50Speaker 3: This is what they've been. This is what they were
- 36:53Speaker 3: last year.
- 36:54Speaker 4: You know, we've talked about the fact that in nine
- 36:56Speaker 4: or ten games, Jalen Hurts didn't throw for you know,
- 36:59Speaker 4: over two hundred yards. That's that's how they won a
- 37:03Speaker 4: year ago. It's not a knock on anybody. This is
- 37:05Speaker 4: what their profile was, this is what their template was.
- 37:09Speaker 4: So what you ultimately get is they're trying to play
- 37:12Speaker 4: the same way this year. So what's been the difference
- 37:15Speaker 4: they've been unable to run the ball with any consistency.
- 37:18Speaker 4: So now when you can't do that, you end up
- 37:21Speaker 4: having to throw the ball, probably a little more than
- 37:23Speaker 4: you ideally would like. Okay, if I remember correctly, in
- 37:28Speaker 4: the first Hard Knocks that we did, you know at
- 37:31Speaker 4: NFL Films, I think Sirianni said something about, hey, let's
- 37:35Speaker 4: trust the process kind of this is what we do now.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Fans might listen to that and think, well, it's not working,
- 37:41Speaker 4: so you got to do something else.
- 37:43Speaker 3: We've talked about this. It's a really hard balance between then, Okay,
- 37:47Speaker 3: changing pretty much who you are how you won a
- 37:51Speaker 3: Super Bowl as opposed to getting better at what you
- 37:56Speaker 3: were great at where you liked the car hard decisions
- 38:01Speaker 3: to make. You know, fans as soon as there's two
- 38:03Speaker 3: bad plays want coaches to change everything. That's fans and
- 38:06Speaker 3: that's you know, hey, they're so passionate in Philly. We
- 38:09Speaker 3: know that they're passionate everywhere, But are they These are
- 38:14Speaker 3: hard decisions to make.
- 38:15Speaker 1: They absolutely are. Let's flip it a little bit. One
- 38:19Speaker 1: of the easier decisions for Vic Fangioe is how does
- 38:22Speaker 1: he compensate for Jalen Carter, who's not going to play again.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Last week he played Brandon Graham inside, not just a rusher,
- 38:30Speaker 1: but even as sort of a three technique on early downs.
- 38:33Speaker 1: He also moved held In Phillips at times inside as
- 38:35Speaker 1: a rusher. He played Byron Young Moore. I imagine Adam
- 38:39Speaker 1: that has to continue and they get fortunate in his schedule. Gods,
- 38:43Speaker 1: I guess they go up against an offensive line for
- 38:45Speaker 1: the second straight weeks. That's very bad.
- 38:47Speaker 2: By the way, Colton Miller is out. They ruled him
- 38:49Speaker 2: out on Friday.
- 38:50Speaker 5: Okay, he expected that because just so you know, when
- 38:53Speaker 5: a starter takes less at his number less reps than
- 38:57Speaker 5: usual these limited he almost always doesn't play coming off
- 39:00Speaker 5: into reserve. Ian Thomas is also Ian Thomas a should play.
- 39:05Speaker 5: It's like he sounds like he's gonna play. Gina Smith
- 39:07Speaker 5: was ruled out Calt Miller as they said, who's still
- 39:10Speaker 5: an I r by the way, So yeah, look at
- 39:13Speaker 5: the opportunity is going to be there the matchups. You know,
- 39:15Speaker 5: Greg just talk about, Yes, their identity the Eagles is
- 39:18Speaker 5: they'd like to run the football. We'll see if they
- 39:20Speaker 5: can do that. But conversely, you just talk about, let's
- 39:23Speaker 5: get over the defense. The matchups are so good, Jeff,
- 39:27Speaker 5: the Eagles. This is gonna be fascinating because on the surface,
- 39:30Speaker 5: they shouldn't have to blitz, right, you shouldn't have to blitz.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Who you talking about? The Eagles?
- 39:34Speaker 5: Eagles, you shouldn't have You can if you want, and
- 39:37Speaker 5: you should win. But we've seen Vic sometimes when he
- 39:40Speaker 5: thinks he could. He saw the Super Bowl, we could
- 39:42Speaker 5: go a little extreme here. They thought coming in, I
- 39:45Speaker 5: know this for a fact, they won't have to blitz much.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Now.
- 39:48Speaker 5: Did they know they wouldn't have to have one blitz?
- 39:50Speaker 5: I don't know that, But the word I heard was
- 39:52Speaker 5: they felt coming to the game the matchups were so
- 39:54Speaker 5: good they shouldn't have to. As we move forward here, Greg,
- 39:59Speaker 5: they should have do the same approach, different team, But
- 40:03Speaker 5: the matchups are so juicy for them they.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Should win without blitzing. I I don't see.
- 40:08Speaker 5: I'll be interesting. The pressure rate was ridiculous against Herbert.
- 40:11Speaker 5: It was one of the best this season of any team.
- 40:15Speaker 5: They should win mand this is and with the weather
- 40:18Speaker 5: and Pickett coming in town, this looks good on the surface.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would definitely not stop throwing those sim
- 40:25Speaker 1: pressures though, because Nikobe Dean has just been on fire.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I mean, he's blowing everybody up. How is Ashton gent
- 40:32Speaker 1: in pass pro? Does he stay on the field for
- 40:34Speaker 1: that Greg.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Normally yeah he does. I don't. I can't answer that.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I haven't studied him in that regard.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Even if he was good at it, I could, we could.
- 40:45Speaker 1: We've already seen Na Kobe Dean blow up, Josh Jacobs
- 40:48Speaker 1: blow up, David Montgomery blow up, who did blow up
- 40:51Speaker 1: on Monday night for the trial o'mari Omario and Hampton.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Even if even if you told me Genty was really
- 40:58Speaker 1: good at it, I would say I still think it's yeah,
- 41:00Speaker 1: Nikobe Dean.
- 41:01Speaker 3: You know the biggest issue. Look, obviously they're not a
- 41:04Speaker 3: good team. They've played some close games.
- 41:05Speaker 4: The biggest issue they've had on offense and what I'm
- 41:08Speaker 4: sure Pete Carroll expected, and one reason why Chip Kelly
- 41:11Speaker 4: is no longer they are is they've not been able
- 41:13Speaker 4: to run the ball.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Now, look, their all line's not very good. I will
- 41:18Speaker 3: say this about Genty.
- 41:19Speaker 4: There have been times I watched the tape this year
- 41:21Speaker 4: and I don't think he's looked particularly quick. Now, I
- 41:25Speaker 4: don't know, you know, when run game, it's like people
- 41:28Speaker 4: starting to say you know it was Barkley lost it.
- 41:30Speaker 4: I think when a run game doesn't work, people start
- 41:32Speaker 4: to think the back's bad. I'll be the first to admit,
- 41:36Speaker 4: as Adam said that I didn't think Genty was, you know,
- 41:38Speaker 4: the best factor come out in ten years the way
- 41:40Speaker 4: a lot of people said.
- 41:42Speaker 3: But he certainly wasn't a step you know.
- 41:45Speaker 4: So so I mean, I'm not going to sit here
- 41:47Speaker 4: and say it's Genty's problem. He does he look, you know,
- 41:50Speaker 4: explosive to me.
- 41:51Speaker 3: No, but you know, when your O line's not blocking well,
- 41:54Speaker 3: and I've never been a running back carrying the ball,
- 41:56Speaker 3: but I imagine you start to get a little tentative,
- 41:59Speaker 3: you start to fact that there's not going to be
- 42:01Speaker 3: any room, you know, and all of a sudden you're
- 42:03Speaker 3: not running with any kind of confidence, you know. So
- 42:07Speaker 3: you know, so I'm not gonna sit here and say,
- 42:09Speaker 3: gent he's not a good player.
- 42:10Speaker 4: But clearly they've not been able to run the ball,
- 42:13Speaker 4: and they had to be able to run the ball
- 42:15Speaker 4: or they don't have an offense.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Right right, Yes, absolutely, By the way, did you guys,
- 42:20Speaker 1: did you guys watch Bijon on Thursday night against the Bucks?
- 42:22Speaker 1: I mean, man, well, that's just great everything, vision, moves, agility.
- 42:29Speaker 3: I felt that, I have felt that that he's the
- 42:34Speaker 3: best back in the league.
- 42:35Speaker 4: But that's you know, that's just based you know, it's
- 42:38Speaker 4: so funny because that's obviously not a statement of mathematical fact,
- 42:43Speaker 4: but it's so funny how you know, people on and
- 42:45Speaker 4: I've said that a few times on shows, and you know,
- 42:48Speaker 4: like this week I got, well, you're wrong, it's Jamire Gibbs.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Well it's you know, it's not a matter of right
- 42:53Speaker 3: or wrong. Yeah, you know, that's what I believe based
- 42:56Speaker 3: on tape study. And I think Kamire Gibbs is great too.
- 42:58Speaker 3: But I mean, you know, like it's not like saying
- 43:02Speaker 3: two or two is.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Four right, right? It is all right, just because you're
- 43:06Speaker 1: the fastest guy in the league doesn't make you the best.
- 43:08Speaker 2: I mean you have to.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I just feel like Bijon checks off so many boxes
- 43:13Speaker 1: and he just makes a lot of really great plays
- 43:15Speaker 1: on his own.
- 43:16Speaker 5: Uh.
- 43:16Speaker 1: But anyway, moving back, so, yeah, this should be a
- 43:18Speaker 1: game where the Eagles defensive front manhandles. Let's be honest,
- 43:22Speaker 1: if they should man handle the Raiders up front unless
- 43:24Speaker 1: the Raiders have something going on schematically that we don't
- 43:27Speaker 1: expect and maybe they will. Uh, maybe they'll be able
- 43:30Speaker 1: to run the ball. That's really their only chance. And
- 43:33Speaker 1: you know, the Eagle secondary has played pretty well. I
- 43:35Speaker 1: think the Marcus ops Adam moving marcusceps in and Sidney
- 43:39Speaker 1: Brown out was so inevitable and so obvious. And he's
- 43:42Speaker 1: part of the difference immediately.
- 43:43Speaker 5: I mean, here's the thing about him. I know I
- 43:46Speaker 5: had the ac injury last year. He's just a smart pro. Again,
- 43:51Speaker 5: he's a box safety, right, you know, the Eagles loved
- 43:54Speaker 5: him for that draft. Unfortunately, as it worked out, he
- 43:56Speaker 5: also had the acal injury. But yeah, it's helped bring
- 43:59Speaker 5: a little bit ability and that Droriy Jackson had a
- 44:01Speaker 5: nice game, wasn't terrible. The fact their secondary played pretty
- 44:05Speaker 5: darn well. And this is one of those games where
- 44:09Speaker 5: you go, if this game is close, I'd be surprised.
- 44:11Speaker 5: If the Raiders won, I'd be shocked. But that's why
- 44:14Speaker 5: they play the game. And we've been surprised before with
- 44:16Speaker 5: this team.
- 44:17Speaker 1: So all right, well, I think we've analyzed these massive.
- 44:22Speaker 3: You know, it's look in an ideal world, this should
- 44:26Speaker 3: be And I'm not going to sit here and say
- 44:27Speaker 3: the Eagles should win forty to ten. You never know.
- 44:29Speaker 3: You can't predict NFL games like that, but you know,
- 44:32Speaker 3: in some ways this game appearing on the schedule when
- 44:36Speaker 3: it does should be should be based on the season,
- 44:41Speaker 3: a good get well game. Now again, whatever that means
- 44:44Speaker 3: score wise, you know, we don't know, but it's still
- 44:46Speaker 3: an NFL game, and if the Eagles are not playing well,
- 44:50Speaker 3: you know, look like you said, Jeff, you made the
- 44:52Speaker 3: point that the Raiders have played some close games. You know,
- 44:55Speaker 3: the last thing you want to have happen in this
- 44:57Speaker 3: game is you're early in the fourth quarter and it's
- 44:59Speaker 3: seventeenth thirty agreed, because then one play? Could you know
- 45:04Speaker 3: you don't want to be in the one play situation
- 45:06Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 46:08Speaker 1: are eleven point favorites in this game, despite the fact
- 46:12Speaker 1: that they've lost three games in a row. And uh,
- 46:16Speaker 1: well we'll start with you, Adam. Who do you got score?
- 46:19Speaker 3: Got it?
- 46:20Speaker 2: Eagles twenty two the Raiders six?
- 46:23Speaker 1: Okay, twenty two to six?
- 46:25Speaker 2: And who is the player of the game number twenty six?
- 46:29Speaker 1: S Kwon Barkley? Okay, boy, I always thought if they
- 46:32Speaker 1: got Sae Kwon Barkley going then they would score like
- 46:35Speaker 1: thirty five points.
- 46:36Speaker 5: Well, the Raiders are not a pushover. They're not in
- 46:39Speaker 5: terms of defensively, I know again, they're not talented. Patrick
- 46:41Speaker 5: Grahams are really good, Dee Coinery. He gets the most
- 46:43Speaker 5: out of what they have. Yep, twenty two to six
- 46:46Speaker 5: odds score game and I picked the Eagles against Eagles
- 46:49Speaker 5: the past two games.
- 46:50Speaker 2: No, not doing it this game.
- 46:51Speaker 3: No chance.
- 46:52Speaker 2: They're not losing this game, No way.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Okay, I'll be certain to have our social media team
- 46:57Speaker 1: turn that out.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they who's the game?
- 47:00Speaker 3: You are?
- 47:01Speaker 1: You are screwed, my friend.
- 47:03Speaker 2: I pay on, So I'm not taking it off.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Good All right, Greg, what do you got?
- 47:07Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 47:07Speaker 4: I was gonna pick Barkley too, so I'm not going
- 47:09Speaker 4: to change because I think that this is I think
- 47:14Speaker 4: they also have to be pleased with what they saw
- 47:16Speaker 4: in the first half last week in the run game
- 47:18Speaker 4: against a good defense, And it really felt to me
- 47:21Speaker 4: for the first time, not even counting the Giants second game,
- 47:25Speaker 4: because it wasn't a case of long runs. It was
- 47:27Speaker 4: a case where I felt like there was a sustaining
- 47:30Speaker 4: feel to the run game. I mean, he was thirteen
- 47:32Speaker 4: for sixty nine in the first half. The game got
- 47:34Speaker 4: away from them in the second half. They just didn't
- 47:37Speaker 4: have the ball very much, you know, for obvious reasons. Turnovers,
- 47:40Speaker 4: but I just feel like there was something to build
- 47:42Speaker 4: on in the run game as well. So and again,
- 47:46Speaker 4: if Adam's correct, if weather is an issue, if the
- 47:48Speaker 4: wins are really gusting, which you know they will be,
- 47:51Speaker 4: of course.
- 47:53Speaker 3: I think the Eagles are win, gonna win this game.
- 47:55Speaker 3: I was going to pick a similar score quite frankly,
- 47:57Speaker 3: not the same one, but I'm gonna go twenty four
- 47:59Speaker 3: to nine.
- 48:01Speaker 1: All right, nice, you got to cover for the Eagles.
- 48:05Speaker 1: They'll be happy with that. That's a ball one, all right.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I I you know, last week we all picked against
- 48:13Speaker 1: the Eagles and we were correct. This week, we all
- 48:15Speaker 1: are picking the Eagles to beat the Raiders. I've got
- 48:17Speaker 1: them winning twenty three to sixteen. I just the spread
- 48:21Speaker 1: being eleven. I just can't trust them to cover a
- 48:24Speaker 1: two possession score right now, So that's why I picked
- 48:28Speaker 1: twenty three sixteen. I am gonna go defense for Player
- 48:31Speaker 1: of the Game. I think Jalen Phillips is gonna create
- 48:34Speaker 1: a lot of havoc against mister stone Forsyth. Uh, and
- 48:39Speaker 1: we'll see what happens after all. Actually, I guess jim
- 48:41Speaker 1: Phllips lines.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Up Overn's up on the other side.
- 48:44Speaker 1: The other side well either way over DJ Glaze, which
- 48:46Speaker 1: is one of my NFL names.
- 48:52Speaker 3: He and he went to Maryland, Maryland, right.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember the Checker wrote a lot about him.
- 48:56Speaker 1: So he and Nolan Smith can kind of meet the
- 48:59Speaker 1: quarterback in the middle on Sunday. So I expect the
- 49:03Speaker 1: defense a couple of you know, sacks, maybe even a
- 49:05Speaker 1: turnover out of it.
- 49:06Speaker 2: So that is it.
- 49:07Speaker 1: That is the Inside the Birds pregame show for Greg
- 49:10Speaker 1: Cosell and Adam Kaplan. I'm Jeff Mosher. Thanks for watching
- 49:14Speaker 1: on Inside the Birds.
