- 0:49Speaker 1: been a intro.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, well it's super easy now it is, but.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We should probably we should change it up for the intro.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I do think we should change it up regularly. It's
- 0:58Speaker 2: boring and stale. Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Maybe one maybe one day we'll find like a super
- 1:03Speaker 1: sweet way to intro and we'll just be like, that's it.
- 1:05Speaker 1: We just got to stay with that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but still you'd still get bored of it and
- 1:08Speaker 2: change it one day. Yeah, probably no one.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Else more than likely know one us. Knowing us, you
- 1:15Speaker 1: might notice something today listening to our podcast, Nicole sounds
- 1:20Speaker 1: a little bit different.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sick, AF.
- 1:22Speaker 1: She's sick. AF. You're nasty sick.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm a nasty mofo sick.
- 1:27Speaker 1: But you did just take a COVID test and that
- 1:29Speaker 1: you're negative, So that I'm.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Negative, So yeah, my life mission of not getting COVID
- 1:33Speaker 2: is still in fresh. I don't know how to say
- 1:37Speaker 2: that that's fair enough. I'm also on cold medication, so
- 1:40Speaker 2: you're just going to bear with me. I might be
- 1:42Speaker 2: like dead weight this episode, but you know what, We're
- 1:44Speaker 2: going to give it a go.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You doped up. I think that's that's the best version.
- 1:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna col right now.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And I'm drinking what do I have in this I
- 1:50Speaker 2: have you don't even know, hot water with lemon juice,
- 1:54Speaker 2: fresh ginger, like raw ginger chunks and honey. Wow, that's
- 1:59Speaker 2: like a that's like a get fucking well and a
- 2:01Speaker 2: cup drink? Fair enough, is it not?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Basically I'm drinking wheat and barley.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I think I need to, like, Okay, I feel like
- 2:10Speaker 2: my immune system isn't terrible because I haven't gotten COVID,
- 2:13Speaker 2: but and there's been like close calls. But I do
- 2:16Speaker 2: want to like try to figure it out because I
- 2:18Speaker 2: got a lot of weddings that I'm shooting this summer,
- 2:20Speaker 2: and I'm like, you gotta get your shit together.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, hashtag professional photographer over here.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, the most weddings I've ever had this summer, so yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 2: well it's going to be crazy.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I believe in you. You've shot weddings where you're basically
- 2:33Speaker 1: about to lean over into a bush and vomitas is
- 2:35Speaker 1: so I believe you can do it.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah. I've definitely had some of those.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Yeah, so I do have some. I want to do
- 2:42Speaker 1: a little shout out to someone if that's cool. Yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 1: we're going to shout out to adjacent Emmons because he
- 2:49Speaker 1: just recently got a really cool award. He's part of
- 2:52Speaker 1: the RCMP up here in Canada and he's actually a
- 2:54Speaker 1: little bit more north than us in fact, which surprisingly enough, right, However,
- 3:00Speaker 1: what's really cool? In twenty twenty one, so last Christmas,
- 3:04Speaker 1: him and his wife Larissa decided they were going to
- 3:06Speaker 1: do some stuff for their community. So they wrapped over
- 3:09Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty gifts on Christmas.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Which is amazing, yes, And.
- 3:15Speaker 1: On Christmas Eve they delivered presents to over twenty different
- 3:19Speaker 1: families around their community. And so recently, fast forward to
- 3:23Speaker 1: this March, Jason was actually gifted a commemorative Commissioner's Challenge
- 3:28Speaker 1: coin and a handwritten letter from the Commissioner in their
- 3:31Speaker 1: area because of the good deeds that he's done as
- 3:34Speaker 1: an RCMP officer and for their community, so quick shout
- 3:37Speaker 1: out to Jason for being so awesome. In fact, can
- 3:40Speaker 1: we make him the badass of the day.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Sure, let's do it.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Jason, you the badass of the day officially.
- 3:45Speaker 2: That's super awesome.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Way to be absolutely amazing and going above and beyond.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So yeah, shout out to you guys, and thanks for
- 3:52Speaker 1: tuning in to us all the time. We appreciate you
- 3:53Speaker 1: being listeners and appreciate what you're doing for your community
- 3:56Speaker 1: up there. Keep at it, stay wicked.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Well. Fun story is, so we met Larissa and we
- 4:01Speaker 2: had gone to Jamaica.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we went to Jamaica like ten years ago, almost.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Probably at least that. Yeah, I think it.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Would be no, because it was twenty twelve, it'd be
- 4:11Speaker 1: ten years ago.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yes, may we met Larissa.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Just yeah, we went on like a week long, all
- 4:18Speaker 2: inclusive trip to Jamaica, met them, her and her mom. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: freaking awesome people.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and then here we are ten years later and
- 4:26Speaker 1: Larissa and her husband are listening to our podcast. I
- 4:29Speaker 1: believe Tracy Laris's mom listens.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I think so too. Yeah. Yeah, so it's a small world.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It's pretty awesome.
- 4:34Speaker 2: We need to do another trip. I am I have like,
- 4:39Speaker 2: I need to go somewhere. I have an itch.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So Nichole's going to do the honors even though she's
- 4:46Speaker 1: sick of reading off the patrons today.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so we have two lovely people that joined us
- 4:51Speaker 2: over on Patreon. So we have Tiffany Lucas and Jennifer Overhault.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Thank you so much, becau are freaking amazing.

- 5:24Speaker 2: There a bonus episode a month, which is pretty awesome.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It is.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And so this past March we talked about the Salish
- 5:30Speaker 1: see human feet being found in shoes washing up on
- 5:33Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest coast.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that one blew my mind.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So yeah, if you want to check it out, head
- 5:38Speaker 1: over to Patreon. What else we got? I gotta thank
- 5:41Speaker 1: you all for absolutely amazing birthday wishes. So thank you
- 5:45Speaker 1: so much for making like an absolutely awesome day even
- 5:48Speaker 1: more awesome because I had so many people wishing me
- 5:51Speaker 1: a happy birthday just personally and then you guys adding
- 5:55Speaker 1: to it. Actually, I think I had more people from
- 5:57Speaker 1: the podcast wishing me happy birthday in my personal life.
- 6:00Speaker 1: So that was insane.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that has been overwhelming, like in the best of ways.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Oh, I loved it, so thank you so much for
- 6:05Speaker 1: making it an awesome day. And yes, I had chocolate
- 6:08Speaker 1: milk ample mout.
- 6:09Speaker 2: You did beer?
- 6:10Speaker 1: It was great.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a lifetime supply of beer. I did
- 6:13Speaker 2: got a lot of beer.
- 6:14Speaker 1: My parents bought me like a flat of beer and
- 6:16Speaker 1: then a cooler to store it all in. It was
- 6:18Speaker 1: pretty awesome. So they know me. Well, mm hmm, anything else?
- 6:23Speaker 1: What do we gotta say? Oh?
- 6:25Speaker 2: I was just going to say, well, we watch? What
- 6:27Speaker 2: movie do we watch? Watched The Newest Spider Man? Right?
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah, The Newest Spider Man No Way Home.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It was really good.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Actually it was good. We finally watched it.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Has it been out a while? Yah?
- 6:36Speaker 1: Came out? Did I want to say, like November of.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Twenty cheese, we're behind in life?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Well? COVID. I've been avoiding theaters and that sort of.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so yeah, well our theater was nasty, do
- 6:47Speaker 2: again West.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's still nasty now. It's archaic. It's literally
- 6:51Speaker 1: like just it's one of those theaters where anything you touch.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Is sticky, and it has no competition, so there's no
- 6:58Speaker 2: reason for it to get better.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the only theater. It's a dive. It's gross.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I honestly have always thought like if we opened the
- 7:04Speaker 2: theater here it would do really well.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It probably would, it would, I think, because everyone in
- 7:08Speaker 1: this town that you talk to hates our theater because
- 7:11Speaker 1: it is so gross. They don't renovate and it's just
- 7:14Speaker 1: like nasty and charge so much.
- 7:16Speaker 2: All you'd have to do is just have a clean place.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And like there's the bar set pretty low.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's set very low. So yeah, shout out
- 7:24Speaker 1: to famous players, theater and Prince George. You guys need
- 7:27Speaker 1: to up your fucking game. Let's say that. Anyways, moving on, Okay,
- 7:32Speaker 1: moving on, you're ready for today's episode.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I'm totally ready.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We talked about some really dark, some really disturbing, some
- 7:40Speaker 1: really depressing cases.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Recently, that is for sure.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Actually, so we are moving away from those types of
- 7:47Speaker 1: cases for a little bit here for this week.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I don't know what I'm doing next week, so don't
- 7:52Speaker 2: don't say I'm not well. I know for you maybe
- 7:54Speaker 2: I'll think of the most brutal case there is a
- 7:56Speaker 2: move maybe just kidding.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Okay, my next couple of cases are going to be
- 7:59Speaker 1: a little more light, let's put it that way. Okay,
- 8:01Speaker 1: this case we're going to be touching on a cryptid,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and my next case that I'm going to do, I
- 8:06Speaker 1: haven't selected which one yet, though I think I know
- 8:09Speaker 1: I'm going to focus on a survivor story. So someone
- 8:11Speaker 1: who may have been abducted or attempted murder, but someone
- 8:14Speaker 1: who survived. So those are my two cases coming up quick.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I don't know what the other one is, but this one,
- 8:20Speaker 1: like I said, is a cryptid. We are talking about
- 8:23Speaker 1: the Mothman. Do you know Mothman?
- 8:26Speaker 2: I can't say I know a lot about the moth though,
- 8:28Speaker 2: do you know the muffin Man?
- 8:29Speaker 1: I was just supposed to say he lives on Dreary Lane,
- 8:33Speaker 1: not my Buttons, not my gun drop Buttons. I love
- 8:38Speaker 1: that movie. Anyways, So you're ready for this, I'm ready Okay,
- 8:42Speaker 1: here we go. So, on the evening of November fifteenth,
- 8:46Speaker 1: all the way back to nineteen sixty six, in a
- 8:49Speaker 1: small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, two young couples
- 8:53Speaker 1: by the name of Roger and Lisa Scarberry and Steve
- 8:57Speaker 1: and Mary Malette. We're out on an evening drive down
- 9:00Speaker 1: some countryside roads in the McClintic Wildlife Management Area.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Okay, I just to say, Point Pleasant. That sounds like
- 9:08Speaker 2: a very pleasant place. I already like it.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very uh, very neat of you to point
- 9:14Speaker 1: that out.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Wow, what you started it?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Don't look at me like that.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Oh I did start it, Yeah you did. I did so.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Anyways, the area consists of about eight thousand acres of
- 9:28Speaker 1: woods that used to be used in World War Two
- 9:31Speaker 1: for manufacturing and storage of explosives. Now, the storage building
- 9:35Speaker 1: that held the explosives were essentially concrete igloo shaped bunkers,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and they were distributed across all the acreage to house
- 9:43Speaker 1: the explosives.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Huh.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Now. Since the war, however, was over, the buildings and
- 9:48Speaker 1: facilities were essentially abandoned, leaving the area scattered with ruins
- 9:53Speaker 1: and covered bunkers all over the place.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Kind of like would probably have a bit of a
- 9:57Speaker 2: creepy era to it. Then hey, oh probably imagine.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I mean, like if you go look out the area
- 10:02Speaker 1: and everything, like I looked at some people like hunting
- 10:05Speaker 1: for them offman stuff, it seems like just a nice
- 10:07Speaker 1: country area. Yeah, but then once you get up into
- 10:09Speaker 1: the bunkers and stuff like, yeah, that's a little bit
- 10:11Speaker 1: more on the creepy side of things.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Well, anything just abandoned just seems like it always feels
- 10:15Speaker 2: so creepy because your mind wanders like, what was it
- 10:19Speaker 2: like here at one point?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Ye, that's true, that is very much so true. Well,
- 10:24Speaker 1: since like I said, these are now abandoned and they're
- 10:26Speaker 1: scattered all over the place. The couple was just kind
- 10:30Speaker 1: of driving through, not so much focusing on the bunkers,
- 10:33Speaker 1: just focusing on driving through the road and the wooded area.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:37Speaker 1: They drove through the area in the dark, as it
- 10:38Speaker 1: was an evening time and their headlights in the car
- 10:41Speaker 1: were the only thing illuminating the road in the surrounding area.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Then all of a sudden during the drive, Mary and
- 10:48Speaker 1: Linda both spotted something ahead. It was a larger figure.
- 10:53Speaker 1: The figure was walking towards a building known as the
- 10:56Speaker 1: quote unquote T and T building in a shuffling type manner.
- 11:00Speaker 1: A lot of people refer to this area even fact
- 11:03Speaker 1: as the T and T area because of the history
- 11:05Speaker 1: with the explosives. Oh okay, so this isn't any sort
- 11:08Speaker 1: of extravagant situation. Let's just say that. Uh, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you basically have a sighting of a figure or a
- 11:15Speaker 1: man shuffling through the darkness towards an abandoned buildings. Still creepy,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, it's kind of creepy.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Because you probably figure you're out there on your own.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's nothing extravagant to bet. There's nothing out
- 11:26Speaker 1: of the normal. Until they watched it and they began
- 11:30Speaker 1: to realize there were some things out of the normal.
- 11:33Speaker 1: This figure, the figure was a little bit different. They
- 11:37Speaker 1: couldn't see any discernible arms or even a discernible head.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Wow, right on.
- 11:44Speaker 1: What they did see, however, was something even more disturbing.
- 11:48Speaker 1: The figure or creature had a large had large folding
- 11:53Speaker 1: wings mounted high on its back, and massive glowing red
- 11:57Speaker 1: eyes where its head would have been.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Okay, that's creepy, ast shit, I'd be turning around.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Well. The couple were stunned and they didn't turn around
- 12:07Speaker 1: watch the creature. They continue to watch the creature shuffle
- 12:10Speaker 1: towards the abandoned building, and then after a few moments
- 12:13Speaker 1: they decided, you know what, let's get out of here.
- 12:16Speaker 1: So they took their time, they watched it, and they thought,
- 12:18Speaker 1: let's get the fuck out of here.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yeah, good plan.
- 12:20Speaker 1: So they turned the car around and high tailed it
- 12:22Speaker 1: down the country road in the direction that they came from.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Can you imagine just seeing this glowing eye fucking creature
- 12:29Speaker 1: out there.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Oh, it wouldn't have taken me a few moments to
- 12:32Speaker 2: turn around.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Peace out.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I would see that, and then I would already be like,
- 12:36Speaker 2: it'd be it by dust.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I just pictured like Scooby Doo, like when they just
- 12:42Speaker 1: like jump up half a foot off the ground their
- 12:44Speaker 1: feet kick around for a second, and then gone, it's
- 12:47Speaker 1: just a dustblind.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's some creepy shit. Even if it was
- 12:49Speaker 2: just like a man, I think I would be gone,
- 12:52Speaker 2: it's just.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Some random dude in the woods. No fuck it.
- 12:54Speaker 2: At night, like by abandoned shit, Like I don't know, well.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I mean, what if it was just a homeless dude
- 13:00Speaker 1: just happened to be like crashing in the abandoned place
- 13:01Speaker 1: because he had no place to stay.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I guess that's fair.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Is that creepy?
- 13:05Speaker 2: No?
- 13:06Speaker 1: Then why would you just leave him behind?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Well, maybe he needed his space, personal space, privacy. Okay, there,
- 13:13Speaker 2: I let him be fair enough.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Well, so they turned the car around. They left the
- 13:17Speaker 1: creature in their dust, their proverbial dust. However, if followed
- 13:22Speaker 1: them as they drove, they saw the creature suddenly appear
- 13:26Speaker 1: in their headlights ahead of them, and then it took
- 13:29Speaker 1: off directly up into the air cool The wingspan of
- 13:34Speaker 1: the creature reached out to be about ten feet wide,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but in its flight, they described, it did not flap
- 13:42Speaker 1: or beat its wings whatsoever to stay airborne.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Huh how does that work? Hey?
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, est according to physics, that
- 13:51Speaker 1: doesn't work.
- 13:52Speaker 2: No, so interesting, Okay, yeah, it almost like that makes
- 13:56Speaker 2: it to make us, say, motorized.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Maybe maybe it's just a big old fucking kite, some
- 14:01Speaker 1: kids flying around in the dark. Huh Yeah, glowing LEDs mounting.
- 14:06Speaker 2: On it just to creep everyone out.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yep, fucking kids. Anyways, Roger Scarberry stepped on the gas
- 14:14Speaker 1: of his nineteen fifty seven Chevy and began racing down
- 14:18Speaker 1: the road with the creature flying over. He following them.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yeah, no, yeah, no, yeah no, Well.
- 14:25Speaker 1: That's kind of what they thought too. So he stepped
- 14:27Speaker 1: on that gas, trying to gain speed as much as
- 14:29Speaker 1: he could, and as they sped up to speeds of
- 14:33Speaker 1: one hundred miles per hour down the dirt road to
- 14:37Speaker 1: evade the creature, it's still kept following.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Wow, that's so fast.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's not just for the record, because we
- 14:45Speaker 1: do kilometers an hour. This is miles per hour.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Which is like way faster, right.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's probably around the vicinity of if
- 14:53Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken seventy Sorry, I was thinking seventy miles
- 14:56Speaker 1: per hours one hundred kilometers, So you're probably around the
- 14:59Speaker 1: vicinity of one hundred and four kilometers ish.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Should I live it up?
- 15:02Speaker 1: Sure? Do the math. Let's see my bat is one
- 15:04Speaker 1: hundred and forty kilometers in that era area, Am I right?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Oh God, I don't know.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Hurry up, I'm stalling for you.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I know, but it's not working.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's not working. Why isn't it working?
- 15:15Speaker 2: Well, because it makes it says I have to do math.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I thought it would just like pop up with like
- 15:20Speaker 2: the conversion, you know, well it should. It just says
- 15:25Speaker 2: ten miles per hour is sixteen kilometers per hour. So
- 15:29Speaker 2: then I just have to do that math, don't I
- 15:31Speaker 2: ten miles, I can do this.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Ten miles an hour is sixteen So that's so ten
- 15:37Speaker 1: miles is sixteen kilometers. You said, so it's one hundred
- 15:39Speaker 1: and sixty kilometers.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah, oh that is easy math. Sorry, okay, I'm sorry,
- 15:43Speaker 2: I'm blaming it on my cold. That is super Okay,
- 15:45Speaker 2: So one hundred and sixty kilometers props. Yeah, that's freaking fast.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That is really fast. So I like, how else Canadians?
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'd like catch up there for a minute. Yeah, so anyways,
- 15:56Speaker 1: up to one hundred miles per hour or one hundred
- 15:59Speaker 1: and sixty kilometers. The creature was still right behind them,
- 16:02Speaker 1: staring them down with its intense, glowing red eyes. As
- 16:07Speaker 1: the chase continued, the creature let out a loud, screeching noise,
- 16:11Speaker 1: described after the fact as quote a record played at
- 16:16Speaker 1: a high speed, or squeak of a mouse.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I'd shit my pants right there.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Really, you'd shit your pants. I'd be shitting I feel
- 16:26Speaker 1: like that's like not I mean, the whole situation is scary,
- 16:30Speaker 1: but just the noise alone. It's not a very intimidating noise.
- 16:32Speaker 2: No, I think the noise would just amplify it so much.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Really, do you think it is scary? Tear?
- 16:38Speaker 2: I hate? Okay, because even when we're out, because we
- 16:41Speaker 2: have a lot of coyotes around here, and like it's
- 16:43Speaker 2: pitch dark and you can just hear them howling.
- 16:45Speaker 1: M hm.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Creeps me out. It's creepy. I don't like sounds in
- 16:49Speaker 2: the darkness.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Fair enough, fair enough. I love the sound of coyotes.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You do, so maybe it wouldn't bother you, but it
- 16:54Speaker 2: bothered me.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I could fall asleep to coyotes yapping all around me
- 16:57Speaker 1: in the bush. It's just like a fucking lullaby for me.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Oh no, it's like actually makes the hair on the
- 17:02Speaker 2: back of my neck stand up a bit.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I love it. Wolf howls, depending on how close they are,
- 17:08Speaker 1: will get me.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Have you heard wolf howsel here out here? Huh?
- 17:13Speaker 1: I don't think so. Maybe once or twice. I'm not
- 17:16Speaker 1: too certain. It would have been a long time ago
- 17:18Speaker 1: if I did. But I have heard worth wolf howls,
- 17:22Speaker 1: just I'm not sure.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Around here, well, we hear them on a daily basis
- 17:25Speaker 2: in our house.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so it happens when you got a husky wolf mix.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So anyways, back to the story. So, as the chase
- 17:33Speaker 1: went on, they began nearing town, and as they neared town, however,
- 17:36Speaker 1: the creature started to fall back until it faded into
- 17:39Speaker 1: the darkness and they were left alone driving back the
- 17:42Speaker 1: rest of the way to town.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Okay, that's what I was hoping would happen.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Well, what they just witnessed and experience was clearly terrifying.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I'm sure you can attest to that if you were
- 17:51Speaker 1: in the situation, you'd probably poop. Yeah, And Linda Scarberry
- 17:55Speaker 1: was adamant that they needed to report it to the police.
- 17:58Speaker 1: The only problem, who was going to believe them exactly?
- 18:02Speaker 1: Who's going to believe that they just saw a large,
- 18:05Speaker 1: headless figure with no arms but wings instead and chase
- 18:08Speaker 1: them down a country road, flying at speeds of one
- 18:10Speaker 1: hundred miles per hour as this giant red eyes stared
- 18:14Speaker 1: them down. That's not something the police will generally consider
- 18:18Speaker 1: a legitimate statement.
- 18:19Speaker 2: They would probably think they were like high or something.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Oh one hundred percent, especially like back in the sixties,
- 18:24Speaker 1: you're entering hippie era here, So I mean like some
- 18:29Speaker 1: young couples driving off down the country road. They very
- 18:32Speaker 1: well could have been sparking up some of that grass exactly.
- 18:35Speaker 1: The Devil's let us.
- 18:36Speaker 2: They're like I need some of that exactly.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Either that or they're like we need to stop smoking
- 18:41Speaker 1: the shit after what they just saw. So like, what
- 18:45Speaker 1: were they gonna do? How are they gonna report it?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Sure they just keep quiet? What would you do in
- 18:51Speaker 1: that situation?
- 18:52Speaker 2: I think I'd have to report it because I don't
- 18:54Speaker 2: think it's necessarily something that keep quiet, because who knows,
- 18:58Speaker 2: maybe there have been other reports, like you don't know
- 19:01Speaker 2: that someone else's baby calmon like the place have just
- 19:03Speaker 2: kept it quiet, So I would report it.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, they decided to do something that I guarantee
- 19:08Speaker 1: you you wouldn't have done.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Oh go back.
- 19:12Speaker 1: They decided to go back.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Shit, yeah no, that would not be what I would do.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Shit yeah no, coming see on T shirts. So yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: they turned the car around and they drove back.
- 19:23Speaker 2: To where they had seen the creature that same night.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The same night, the same moment they just lost it
- 19:28Speaker 1: like minutes ago. What And they're like still in the car, like,
- 19:32Speaker 1: let's turn around and go back.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Did they go change their underwear first, I don't think so, wow,
- 19:38Speaker 2: that's wild.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So they turned around and they headed back. They wanted
- 19:42Speaker 1: to confirm what they had just witnessed and experience, and
- 19:45Speaker 1: they wanted to see like, okay, are we out of
- 19:48Speaker 1: our minds? Did we see what we think we saw?
- 19:50Speaker 1: They just they wanted that confirmation, which props to them
- 19:54Speaker 1: because that's the bravest fuck that is.
- 19:55Speaker 2: And I guess even back then, like they wouldn't have
- 19:57Speaker 2: even had anything to capture it on really right, Yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 2: there's no cellphones. That's sucky thing, you. Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So once they drove back down the dark dirt road
- 20:05Speaker 1: nearing the TNT building where they saw it, they found
- 20:09Speaker 1: it wandering around and open clearing again. Its mass and
- 20:14Speaker 1: shape was all the same as before, with its high
- 20:17Speaker 1: mounted wings and glowing red eyes. Immediately once they saw it,
- 20:21Speaker 1: they said, yup, and piece the fuck out of there.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I think they should have at least brought someone with them.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Well, they decided, you know what, we confirmed, we did
- 20:30Speaker 1: see this fucking creature. Were not going crazy. So they
- 20:33Speaker 1: went straight for the Mason County Courthouse and filed the
- 20:36Speaker 1: report on what they had seen and experienced.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Okay, so it didn't follow them the second time.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Didn't follow them the second time.
- 20:42Speaker 2: That's lucky. I was like, oh, they might not have
- 20:44Speaker 2: the same sit like scenario here.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well they didn't because it didn't follow them.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Well yeah, but I was thinking it might be worse.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Yeah. So once they arrived and they were filing out
- 20:52Speaker 1: the report, Deputy Millard Halstead was the individual on shift
- 20:56Speaker 1: and took their report. Now, luckily, the town of Point
- 20:59Speaker 1: Pleasant is in a large city. It's more of a
- 21:02Speaker 1: small town where a lot of people are acquainted with
- 21:04Speaker 1: one another, you know, kind of where everyone knows their
- 21:07Speaker 1: name sort of thing. Yep, And Deputy Halstead knew the
- 21:10Speaker 1: couples personally. He knew who they were and took what
- 21:14Speaker 1: they said seriously, right, it's incredible sighting.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Okay, that's super good. Props to him for that, no kidding.
- 21:22Speaker 2: So what they did to make sure that everyone was
- 21:27Speaker 2: actually telling the truth and testing to make sure that
- 21:31Speaker 2: they actually saw what they saw. They split everyone up,
- 21:34Speaker 2: the four of the individuals, They split them up and
- 21:36Speaker 2: separated them into individual rooms and they were asked to
- 21:39Speaker 2: write down what had happened. So each of them went
- 21:43Speaker 2: to handwrite their report and statement and what they experienced
- 21:47Speaker 2: and saw without collaboration from one another, and each report
- 21:52Speaker 2: corroborated the other.
- 21:54Speaker 1: They all matched.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Okay, that's actually so good.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, especially can consider the fact. Okay, yeah, we
- 22:02Speaker 1: were just talking about it. These guys driving down a
- 22:04Speaker 1: country road, get high, see some shit. Yeah, if you're high,
- 22:07Speaker 1: your stories aren't going to match because you're all fucking
- 22:09Speaker 1: experiencing different shit. And if you are high and you
- 22:12Speaker 1: decide that you're going to corroborate a story, when you
- 22:14Speaker 1: do go write it down, it's still not going to match.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and sorry, how old were.
- 22:18Speaker 1: These I'm certain age. I know they were young, but
- 22:21Speaker 1: I don't know how young, So I guess, like, I
- 22:23Speaker 1: don't know, maybe mid to late twenty somewhere around.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Okay, I seen. That's so smart, that's awesome.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so so yeah, each the individuals involved were separated
- 22:33Speaker 1: and wrote that down one hundred percent. Now, after the
- 22:36Speaker 1: written statements were filed, accompanied by Deputy Halstead, the two
- 22:40Speaker 1: couples drove back out to where they had seen the
- 22:42Speaker 1: creature that night.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, who are these people?
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure they are the Scooby Doo gang, because
- 22:49Speaker 1: holy fuck.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Like to go a third time is mind blowing to me.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Right, So, once they got to the location, they began
- 22:57Speaker 1: to search for anything related to what they had experienced.
- 23:01Speaker 1: While they didn't see the creature, upon the return, there
- 23:03Speaker 1: were a few other findings they did see. They found
- 23:07Speaker 1: some strange shadows that were moving amongst the forest while
- 23:09Speaker 1: they were there. Oh wow, a strange and unexplained sudden
- 23:13Speaker 1: dust cloud was kicked up on one spot. Odd noises
- 23:18Speaker 1: were heard at times, and they found what appeared to
- 23:21Speaker 1: be a hoof like print in the sand.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Oh.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Now, I did see a photo of a hoof like
- 23:29Speaker 1: print while and while looking up an article on this.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I don't know if it was the hoof print or what.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I don't know if they even have a photograph of
- 23:37Speaker 1: it or not, but I do want to point out
- 23:40Speaker 1: I did some research in the area for West Virginia.
- 23:42Speaker 1: It is home to a lot of deer and even elk.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Oh okay so which can very much so look like
- 23:49Speaker 2: a hoof print.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Oh they have hoofs.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Yeah, like it looks like that. It looks like a
- 23:53Speaker 2: monster almost.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it very well could be. And the photo that
- 23:56Speaker 1: I saw, to me, it looked like an elk print
- 23:59Speaker 1: or a very large deer, a small elk or very
- 24:01Speaker 1: large deer. But again, I don't know if I saw
- 24:04Speaker 1: a real image or if it was just something someone
- 24:06Speaker 1: slapped on it for the article purposes.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I've been seeing a ton of moose prints on the road, yeh,
- 24:13Speaker 2: for our walks lately, like lots.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I tried to look see if there was moose
- 24:17Speaker 1: in the area. I didn't see if there. I couldn't
- 24:19Speaker 1: confirm if there was moose in West Virginia, and only
- 24:23Speaker 1: the fact that that elker there. I guess they haven't
- 24:25Speaker 1: been around for around one hundred years in the area.
- 24:29Speaker 1: They are there, very rare, but they are there. But
- 24:32Speaker 1: they are making a turn last decades, a return the
- 24:34Speaker 1: last decade or so. So anyways, where am I here now? Yeah? Okay,
- 24:40Speaker 1: So after the incident, after they went back with deputy
- 24:43Speaker 1: and everything, they were turned and went back to town. Now,
- 24:47Speaker 1: Linda Scarberry is said to have been sent to a
- 24:49Speaker 1: hospital and been treated for shock after this, just adding
- 24:54Speaker 1: to the credibility of their experience.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't blame that.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Yeah. So the next morning, Mason County Sheriff George Johnson
- 25:03Speaker 1: held a press conference regarding the situation and spoke to
- 25:07Speaker 1: the public on the sighting, Oh, I don't.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Know if that's a good idea.
- 25:11Speaker 1: No, why not?
- 25:12Speaker 2: Well, then everyone's just gonna go out there.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I feel like, yeah, that's pretty much what happened. Yeah, okay, Well,
- 25:19Speaker 1: local and national news sources began picking up the story,
- 25:22Speaker 1: and it effectively, I mean, in the nineteen sixty six
- 25:25Speaker 1: standards began to go viral, and the press would have
- 25:29Speaker 1: eventually dubbed the creature the Mothman, which, funny enough, the
- 25:33Speaker 1: name was inspired by the nineteen sixties live action Batman
- 25:36Speaker 1: movie that was on TV at the time, because a
- 25:39Speaker 1: lot of people said that the description everything sounds like Batman,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and there was one incident I believe where a guy
- 25:46Speaker 1: was like, oh yeah, I basically just saw Batman in
- 25:48Speaker 1: my neighbor's roof.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Wow.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Right, well, I mean this tall, brooding, dark figure with
- 25:56Speaker 1: like the because the wings weren't like moth wings are flapping,
- 26:00Speaker 1: kind of like a Batman cape kind.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Of Batman has a head though, doesn't it.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he does. And the fact that it doesn't have
- 26:07Speaker 1: a head, that's the only time I've heard that it
- 26:10Speaker 1: doesn't have a head. And I think it's not that
- 26:14Speaker 1: this doesn't have a head. I think it's like its
- 26:16Speaker 1: head is kind of like more just like a mound
- 26:18Speaker 1: on its shoulders.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Oh okay, not with like a neck and stuff.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, However I have read other reports where the
- 26:24Speaker 1: neck was like slimmed into so like it would have
- 26:28Speaker 1: a head. So it's very mixed reports on the head
- 26:32Speaker 1: piece of it.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 26:34Speaker 1: So yeah. Anyways, so they dubbed him the Mothman via
- 26:40Speaker 1: Batman's Adam West in the nineteen sixties or sorry, Adam
- 26:43Speaker 1: West Batman in the nineteen sixties. Now, during the next
- 26:46Speaker 1: few days, other people started to report similar sightings. Two
- 26:50Speaker 1: volunteer firemen saw the creature and said it was quote
- 26:54Speaker 1: large bird with red eyes yeah, and Mason County Sheriff
- 26:59Speaker 1: George john And commented that he believed the sightings were
- 27:02Speaker 1: due to an unusual large heron in the area.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Okay, but like people are describing in as like ten
- 27:12Speaker 2: feet wingspan, yes, yeah, yeah, okay, maybe I have to
- 27:18Speaker 2: look up what kind of bird that is.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Well, herring heron. Sorry I just said herring heron is
- 27:24Speaker 1: a crane.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Oh okay, Oh, that doesn't seem like that fits the
- 27:28Speaker 2: description at all, not quite.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but wildlife biologist Robert L. Smith of West Virginia
- 27:35Speaker 1: University told reporters that the descriptions and sightings all fit
- 27:38Speaker 1: the sandhill crane, a large American crane almost as tall
- 27:42Speaker 1: as a man, with a seven foot wingspan, featuring circles
- 27:46Speaker 1: of reddish coloring around the eyes. The bird may have
- 27:50Speaker 1: been wandering out of its migration route, which it's not
- 27:53Speaker 1: native to the area specifically, and therefore was unrecognized at
- 27:57Speaker 1: first because it was not native to this gent Now
- 28:01Speaker 1: it's unconfirmed whether there was a sand hill crane in
- 28:05Speaker 1: the area at the time, but there are unconfirmed highlight
- 28:10Speaker 1: that there unconfirmed sightings. Some people claim that they had
- 28:15Speaker 1: saw a specific sandhill crane around of the time.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Can these birds fly that fast though?
- 28:22Speaker 1: No? One hundred miles an hour?
- 28:24Speaker 2: No, like that's really fast.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Yes, I mean birds can fly fast, but I know
- 28:28Speaker 1: it's not gonna fly.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I know. I'm like, I don't think it. Oh man,
- 28:31Speaker 2: let's hope birds can't fly. That Fasset's terrifying.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Yep. Now another setting, a contractor Nwle Partridge sorry contractor
- 28:40Speaker 1: Newel Partridge told Johnson that when his he aimed a
- 28:42Speaker 1: flashlight at a creature in the nearby field, its eyes
- 28:46Speaker 1: glowed like bicycle reflectors. Now we any animal, that's basically
- 28:53Speaker 1: any animal. Yeah, and some people are actually pointing to
- 28:56Speaker 1: owls for this because owls you point a flashlight at them,
- 28:59Speaker 1: they do have like a reddish glow to their eyes.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Oh really hey, Yes, and there.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Is an unconfirmed again unconfirmed. There's a lot of unconfirmed
- 29:07Speaker 1: stuff about this. When we were talking about what was it,
- 29:11Speaker 1: I believe Linda Scarberry when she was talking about the
- 29:15Speaker 1: reddish eyes during their initial chase and everything, some say
- 29:20Speaker 1: that she talked about the eyes only glowing when light
- 29:23Speaker 1: was shined into them.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Like their headlights and such.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Correct.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yes, okay, so.
- 29:30Speaker 1: There is that possibility there. I just wanted to throw
- 29:32Speaker 1: that out so well.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Owl Owls can get pretty large too, can they not?
- 29:37Speaker 1: They can. I believe it's the great horned owl can
- 29:40Speaker 1: get up to a six foot wingspan. We have those
- 29:44Speaker 1: around here, but I mean they sit like two and
- 29:47Speaker 1: a half to three feet tall.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think you would know, you would know.
- 29:52Speaker 1: So anyways, these were just people who happened to seem off.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Man.
- 29:56Speaker 1: There were hundreds of people going out each night in
- 29:59Speaker 1: search of the creat pretty much like pitchfork in hand style.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Like rifles and shit like wanting.
- 30:05Speaker 2: To go hunt kill it. Okay, well question, yes, would
- 30:09Speaker 2: that have been you?
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yes, you would go.
- 30:14Speaker 2: You would have to go take a peek.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I kind of want to go to West Virginia and
- 30:19Speaker 1: take a peak now, just saying, oh my goodness, I
- 30:23Speaker 1: would totally go in a mothman hunt. So yeah, it's
- 30:27Speaker 1: estimated that numbers could have been up to a thousand
- 30:30Speaker 1: individuals going out each night in search of the mothman.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Well, that alone would scare anything away.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm pretty sure that a lot of sightings
- 30:39Speaker 1: that would have occurred around this time could have potentially
- 30:42Speaker 1: even been people seeing other.
- 30:44Speaker 2: People or made up in their head or something exactly.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I just saw a figure in the bush. Yeah, you
- 30:49Speaker 1: just saw Sam over there with his girlfriend. She was
- 30:52Speaker 1: trying to take a leak. So they're looking for privacy.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I'm sorry, like, come on, not to say that there
- 30:58Speaker 1: weren't actual sight I'm just saying, at that time, when
- 31:02Speaker 1: you have a thousand people running around the bush, pretty
- 31:04Speaker 1: sure you're just seeing each other.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think any sort of creature would be
- 31:08Speaker 2: staying with that amount of people around.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Definitely not. But also the idea of people confusing a
- 31:15Speaker 1: creature with such mass like this with a large herring
- 31:19Speaker 1: like a sandhill crane. I think it had a lot
- 31:22Speaker 1: of people just rolling their eyes, much like UFO sightings.
- 31:25Speaker 1: It's like, oh, that's swamp gas. Like a fuck off.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I really doubt that it's a crane, and I think
- 31:32Speaker 1: people were much so in agreeance with that. Not saying
- 31:37Speaker 1: you can't you can't be. I'm just saying, well, the odds.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Are Yeah, it'd be people like me that just want
- 31:42Speaker 2: to believe it's a crane. Let's just put this behind us.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I want to believe in Mothman, but I'm not sure
- 31:49Speaker 1: I do.
- 31:50Speaker 2: No.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I think there's I don't know. A lot of cryptids
- 31:54Speaker 1: are just too far fetched. I want to believe in
- 31:56Speaker 1: the them all they're they're fucking cool as shit. Yeah,
- 31:59Speaker 1: but the reality is like these creatures probably don't. It's
- 32:04Speaker 1: probably certain circumstances that line up, you know, to make
- 32:08Speaker 1: us see something or have an experience where it's like, well,
- 32:12Speaker 1: it just so happened to be perfect situation where swamp
- 32:15Speaker 1: gas made you see a UFO like chances of them,
- 32:19Speaker 1: I agree, chances of a being swamp gas for UFO
- 32:22Speaker 1: fucking a bajillion to one, but there still is that chance.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Well, your brain can create really interesting things in your mind.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Like even where my studio is across the street, there's
- 32:32Speaker 2: like a twig in the fence. I don't know if
- 32:34Speaker 2: you've noticed it. Yes, I have had to go and
- 32:36Speaker 2: look numerous times and make sure it's not a squirrel
- 32:38Speaker 2: caught in their dead It literally looks like it's a
- 32:41Speaker 2: squirrel that's died in the fence.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Fair enough, fair enough.
- 32:44Speaker 2: So it's like, I don't know. Your brain just like
- 32:46Speaker 2: makes things up in your head sometimes, right, Like this
- 32:49Speaker 2: is what that is.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it finds a discernible shape and it tries to
- 32:53Speaker 1: add things that you know and put essentially a face
- 32:57Speaker 1: to it.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Anyways, one thing that does point to the mothman being
- 33:03Speaker 1: something other than just a bird or a side effect
- 33:06Speaker 1: that many report after having the encounter. Linda Scarberry, for example,
- 33:10Speaker 1: began to hear disembodied noises and saw items move around
- 33:14Speaker 1: her house on their own.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Oh no, I really don't like that.
- 33:18Speaker 1: These things, in her opinion, were pointing towards a poltergeist.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But she wasn't alone in this experience. A woman by
- 33:28Speaker 1: the name of Marcella Bennett saw the creature with huge
- 33:32Speaker 1: wings and glowing red eyes. She said it seemed so relaxed,
- 33:35Speaker 1: as if it was waiting for her to approach it.
- 33:38Speaker 1: She described it as I quote to me, it wasn't
- 33:42Speaker 1: of this world. After that, she suffered many side effects
- 33:47Speaker 1: from the encounter, such as severe anxiety, paranorma or paranoia sorry, nightmares,
- 33:54Speaker 1: and she could often feel an unnerving presence, as if
- 33:57Speaker 1: the creature was still watching her. Oh, I just hate
- 34:01Speaker 1: that herself, and others also would go on to report
- 34:05Speaker 1: visions and premonitions and near psychic abilities.
- 34:10Speaker 2: How could you ever sleep again? Really? Hey?
- 34:12Speaker 1: Oh? Fuck? Just a giant moth creature just like watching
- 34:16Speaker 1: you all the time.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 34:17Speaker 1: Fuck? No, no thanks?
- 34:18Speaker 2: Oh you'd be sleeping with the lights on every night.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I think, God, make it worse. It's a moth. They
- 34:22Speaker 1: love the light. Oh my gosh, turn the lights off,
- 34:28Speaker 1: turn the lights on? Which is it?
- 34:29Speaker 2: Oh? I don't even know now I'd probably still keep
- 34:32Speaker 2: them on.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Well anyways. Now, Whether these abilities are bestowed upon individuals
- 34:39Speaker 1: after their encounter or not, this at least points to
- 34:42Speaker 1: the fact that their individual minds, psychees, mental health, or
- 34:47Speaker 1: whatever are severely impacted. Whether these things are true, whether
- 34:52Speaker 1: they're getting psychic powers, seeing objects move, something is setting
- 34:56Speaker 1: off their system, something in them is makeing them like
- 35:01Speaker 1: I don't want to say go mad, because I don't
- 35:03Speaker 1: think they're going mad, but like begin to be pushed.
- 35:07Speaker 2: That breaking point they believe in it now.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah, eventually something is pushing them that far. That's what
- 35:13Speaker 1: makes it so tangible. H it's for example, Linda going
- 35:17Speaker 1: into actual shock and people experiencing these things.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and but it wasn't happening with the other three.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Hey, well, the other three kind of had different experiences
- 35:31Speaker 1: in different ways. I'll talk on some of it a
- 35:32Speaker 1: little bit later, but those ones not so much. However,
- 35:36Speaker 1: there were other people having experiences in other ways. Individual
- 35:39Speaker 1: reports are one thing, but what about mass reporting. What
- 35:43Speaker 1: about authorities reporting strange events? Because that's exactly what happened.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Police dispatches were reported to be interrupted or cut off
- 35:51Speaker 1: for unexplained reasons. Cars and a lot electronic appliances began
- 35:56Speaker 1: malfunctioning for a lot of people. There was increased sightings
- 36:00Speaker 1: for UFOs in the area. And like I said, Linda
- 36:03Speaker 1: Scarberry's poltergeist experiences, we're not the only ones being reported.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Huh So is this mass hysteria or is this the
- 36:11Speaker 1: fucking Mothman causing some shit?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Well, I don't know, there's a point where it's too
- 36:17Speaker 2: much is happening right exactly?
- 36:19Speaker 1: But mass hysteria is a real thing.
- 36:23Speaker 2: So that's just where enough people are believing and creating
- 36:27Speaker 2: things in their mind or.
- 36:28Speaker 1: What Basically, Yeah, okay, so it's either it's one or
- 36:33Speaker 1: the other. Yeah, Either an entity, a creature or something
- 36:38Speaker 1: is causing this to happen, or people are believing it
- 36:40Speaker 1: so much so that they are creating this stuff in
- 36:43Speaker 1: their own mind.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Well then sit, I mean, lots of shit just goes
- 36:46Speaker 2: wrong on a daily basis, So then anything that's going
- 36:48Speaker 2: wrong for them, they're just blaming on the Mothman too,
- 36:52Speaker 2: potentially write.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yep, that's totally true. Yeah, Now, there is a theory
- 36:56Speaker 1: surrounding the Mothman aside from the paranormal side of it.
- 37:01Speaker 1: It boils down to radiation. The World War II bunkers
- 37:05Speaker 1: were found to have leaked high amounts of contamination into
- 37:08Speaker 1: the soil around the quote unquote T and T area
- 37:11Speaker 1: known as the Mclinic Wildlife Management Area. Huh So, some say,
- 37:16Speaker 1: what if through radiation in the area bred some sort
- 37:19Speaker 1: of bird creature, moth hybrid human thing, and here we
- 37:25Speaker 1: have the Mothman.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think it's a comic book. I
- 37:28Speaker 1: don't think that's quite how things work. But I mean
- 37:31Speaker 1: it's not like it couldn't.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah. I was like, that's not super far fetched.
- 37:35Speaker 1: We have seen radiation do some crazy.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Things in animals totally, so, which is kind of sad
- 37:41Speaker 2: actually that one.
- 37:42Speaker 1: It really is. So. There are so many speculative stories
- 37:46Speaker 1: surrounding it and what it could be, but another encounter
- 37:48Speaker 1: may help point us in the right direction. Linda Scarberry
- 37:52Speaker 1: was not yet done with her experiences.
- 37:55Speaker 2: The poor Girl.
- 37:56Speaker 1: She would begin to have odd phone calls to her home,
- 37:59Speaker 1: and from there she began to encounter strange men, men
- 38:04Speaker 1: we know as the men in black.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Okay, please elaborate.
- 38:11Speaker 1: You don't know what the men in black?
- 38:12Speaker 2: I do, But what is this men in black phoning her? Now?
- 38:17Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 38:18Speaker 2: Why?
- 38:19Speaker 1: Well that's the thing. Why? Okay, Okay, for the.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Record, maybe do I not know what the men in
- 38:25Speaker 2: black are? Then?
- 38:26Speaker 1: What what are men in black? What do you think
- 38:28Speaker 1: they are?
- 38:29Speaker 2: Well?
- 38:30Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know what they you're thinking the Will Smith.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Yeah right, Okay, that movie is based off an entirely
- 38:36Speaker 1: true theory on government agents. Okay, So people who often
- 38:42Speaker 1: have UFO sightings and stuff also report follow up incidences
- 38:48Speaker 1: with men dressed in black uniforms, suits and everything, knocking
- 38:54Speaker 1: on their door, threatening them and telling them to keep quiet,
- 38:58Speaker 1: stealing evidence and even and in some cases some claim
- 39:01Speaker 1: they have murdered family members or individuals involved.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Oh really, Hey, yes, okay, Well I haven't watched that
- 39:08Speaker 2: movie for a long time, and these men and they're
- 39:10Speaker 2: like human men. That's arguable, that's arguable.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Okay, but the movie Men in Black is a complete like,
- 39:18Speaker 1: it's a it's a fabrication.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Basically, imagine.
- 39:22Speaker 1: The only similar thing is the concept they deal with
- 39:25Speaker 1: aliens and creepy shit and cover it up.
- 39:27Speaker 2: That's like Black Eyed Children vibes coming out here pretty much.
- 39:32Speaker 1: So in an interview with Linda, she said this, The
- 39:37Speaker 1: Men in Black wore black suits, black hats, and sunglasses.
- 39:42Speaker 1: They drove black cars cadillacs. I think they looked like
- 39:46Speaker 1: human beings, but their skin was somewhat transparent. You could
- 39:50Speaker 1: see the veins in their hands very clearly. Their fingers
- 39:53Speaker 1: were longer than normal person's fingers as well. Daddy shook
- 39:58Speaker 1: hands with them, and he said they were awkward in
- 40:01Speaker 1: shaking hands. They seemed to not know what to do
- 40:04Speaker 1: or how to shake hands. One of the cars would
- 40:07Speaker 1: follow us around. There were three men in the car.
- 40:11Speaker 1: The men in black went so far as to follow
- 40:13Speaker 1: us through the drive through of a restaurant. We were
- 40:16Speaker 1: afraid to turn around and just look in the mirror
- 40:18Speaker 1: at them.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, this town's getting hit hard. Oh fuck yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 2: and Linda's getting hit hard.
- 40:28Speaker 1: And two of the other individuals who were in the
- 40:30Speaker 1: car that night with Linda, Steve and Mary Mallette, reported
- 40:34Speaker 1: a man and a woman wanting to take a picture
- 40:37Speaker 1: of them. The Maletts took down the light like wrote
- 40:40Speaker 1: down the license plate of the vehicle that they were driving,
- 40:42Speaker 1: of a Volkswagon, and when they reported it to the police,
- 40:46Speaker 1: the police came back and said that that plate number
- 40:49Speaker 1: did not exist.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe they just wrote it down wrong.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Maybe, But why would they want their picture in the
- 40:55Speaker 1: first place.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:56Speaker 1: There are reports of men in black often wanting to
- 40:58Speaker 1: take individual's pictures.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Oh really, hey, there is. This is very similar to
- 41:04Speaker 2: the black eyed children. I feel like slightly kind of okay.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Member in the black Eyed Children case, they would wait
- 41:11Speaker 1: for their parents and they would go out to the
- 41:13Speaker 1: car of two individuals dressed in black. Those two individuals
- 41:18Speaker 1: were most likely men.
- 41:19Speaker 2: In black Holy shit. Okay, yeah, wow, huh so.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Creepy as fuck?
- 41:30Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding here. I wanted to get like a
- 41:32Speaker 2: really nice sleep tonight to like help my cold and
- 41:35Speaker 2: just get better.
- 41:36Speaker 1: You're gonna be dreaming of guys in black suits outside
- 41:38Speaker 1: the windows staring at you all night.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Thanks a lot, Ben, You're welcome, Thanks a lot.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Well, moving the nightmares aside. Let's get back to the case.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:49Speaker 1: So the alleged men in black frequented the small town
- 41:51Speaker 1: of Point Pleasant, usually dressed from head to toe in
- 41:54Speaker 1: black suits, white shirts, black ties, sunglasses, black shoes, and
- 42:00Speaker 1: basically all appeared to be perfect in appearance, but yet
- 42:02Speaker 1: completely out of style for the time. In nineteen sixties
- 42:05Speaker 1: nineteen sixty seven, they are said to have asked people
- 42:08Speaker 1: questions about Mothman and told them not to speak of
- 42:11Speaker 1: it to anyone else. Now the following fifteenth of December
- 42:15Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty seven, we're going to move on to
- 42:17Speaker 1: another incident here, The Silver Bridge collapsed under the weight
- 42:22Speaker 1: of rush hour traffic. This is oh no, this is
- 42:25Speaker 1: a quite famous incident because it resulted in the death
- 42:28Speaker 1: of forty six people. Two of the victims were unfortunately
- 42:33Speaker 1: never recovered from the river.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Holy that's a tragic disaster.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Holy, Yes, it is very tragic. So the investigation of
- 42:42Speaker 1: the wreckage pointed that the cause of the collapse was
- 42:45Speaker 1: because of the failure of a single eyebar in the
- 42:49Speaker 1: suspension chain due to a small defect point one inches
- 42:55Speaker 1: or two point five millimeters deep into it. Analysis shows
- 42:59Speaker 1: that the bridge was carrying much heavier loads than it
- 43:02Speaker 1: was originally designed to be carrying, and it had been
- 43:05Speaker 1: poorly maintained. The collapse eventually happened due to this defect,
- 43:10Speaker 1: and it would eventually be replaced by a silver Memorial bridge,
- 43:14Speaker 1: which was completed in nineteen sixty nine. Now this ties
- 43:19Speaker 1: into mothmen because a couple of sightings of mothmen were
- 43:22Speaker 1: said to have occurred near the bridge before the incident. Now,
- 43:26Speaker 1: rumors eventually spread that the bridge collapse was connected to
- 43:30Speaker 1: Mothman in some way, and that he could have potentially
- 43:33Speaker 1: been trying to warn people, or even have been a
- 43:36Speaker 1: dark premonition of the incident. This was the beginning of
- 43:40Speaker 1: the Mothmen being associated with an omen of doom. After
- 43:46Speaker 1: the bridge's collapse, the Mothmen sightings came to a sudden halt.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Huh.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Now it may be a coincidence. Maybe mothmen had something
- 43:58Speaker 1: to do with it, or maybe mass hysteria came to
- 44:01Speaker 1: a sudden halt because there was another incident that took
- 44:05Speaker 1: people's attention.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Sorry, my mind's just going like a mile minute here.
- 44:13Speaker 1: This is there's a lot of information.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so basically, you ever see this mothman run for
- 44:18Speaker 2: the hills because it doesn't mean good.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, there have been sightings since nineteen sixty seven.
- 44:26Speaker 1: They do occur sometimes, but they're not very frequent. Like
- 44:29Speaker 1: a photo taken by an anonymous individual of what he
- 44:32Speaker 1: claims to be the Mothman flying in trees. However, to me,
- 44:37Speaker 1: it looks very unconvincing, and many people say it looks
- 44:40Speaker 1: like you could just be an owl carrying something. Yeah,
- 44:45Speaker 1: but I'm pretty convinced that it was just a hoax,
- 44:47Speaker 1: someone just trying to, you know, get notoriety.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Well, I have a feeling that this creature wouldn't allow
- 44:53Speaker 2: its photo to be taken.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Yeah, there are some photos out there that people claim
- 44:58Speaker 1: to be a mothman too. Yeah, so it's but again,
- 45:01Speaker 1: credibility is on question. Now. To this day, we do
- 45:05Speaker 1: not have an answer to the Mothman. Obviously. However, many
- 45:08Speaker 1: people do truly believe, so much so that there are
- 45:11Speaker 1: annual festivals dedicated to the Mothman, and in the downtown
- 45:15Speaker 1: area of Point Pleasant they have erected a large metallic
- 45:19Speaker 1: statue paying tribute to the creature. Wow, there's actually even
- 45:23Speaker 1: a twenty four hour live stream feed on this statue,
- 45:26Speaker 1: so you can go on the website and watch tourists
- 45:30Speaker 1: and believers who visit to get their picture taken with
- 45:33Speaker 1: the Mothman.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, you just put that in the show.
- 45:36Speaker 2: The link in the show notes I definitely can do that.
- 45:38Speaker 2: I want to watch them, right, Maybe I'll do that.
- 45:40Speaker 2: That's how I'll spend my sick day to Mark that's
- 45:44Speaker 2: watching the statue, just like being a total creeper.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Yep. I don't know how often it gets visitors. I'm
- 45:49Speaker 1: assuming it'd probably be a little more on the weekend,
- 45:51Speaker 1: because I don't think the locals are over there taken
- 45:53Speaker 1: selfies all the time.
- 45:54Speaker 2: I don't know if a Tuesday in March is going
- 45:56Speaker 2: to be April will be that busy.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I doubt it, but I would assume that, you know,
- 46:01Speaker 1: during the Downtown Festival, and I think it takes place
- 46:03Speaker 1: in September. If I'm not mistaken, I would assume that
- 46:07Speaker 1: would be the weekend you want to watch the Lives.
- 46:08Speaker 2: You're kidding fun.
- 46:11Speaker 1: So that is the story of Mothman.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Wow.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Whether he's true or not, it's up to you to
- 46:17Speaker 1: decide for yourself. But I'm gonna say I don't believe
- 46:21Speaker 1: in the moth Man. I want to. I want someone
- 46:24Speaker 1: to prove me wrong. I want to see this creature.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Careful man, Why I don't want to bring no Mothman here?
- 46:31Speaker 1: Mothman, come on, sh We'll leave a lamp on for you.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Oh No, Moths are actually kind of creepy.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Who is my friend Brian? Brian hates moths.
- 46:42Speaker 2: I know a few people that just despise them, almost
- 46:45Speaker 2: just like they're the creepiest things ever, Like they couldn't
- 46:48Speaker 2: they wouldn't be able to sleep if they one was
- 46:49Speaker 2: in their house.
- 46:50Speaker 1: They're like tiny, tiny little puppy dogs with wings.
- 46:53Speaker 2: They're kind of ugly, but there are some I guess
- 46:56Speaker 2: that are better looking. Some look like butterflies.
- 46:59Speaker 1: They are adorable. What are you talking about?
- 47:02Speaker 2: And they're like dusty and gross?
- 47:04Speaker 1: Okay, you know, as soon as we're done recording this,
- 47:06Speaker 1: I'm going to go over to Instagram and it's going
- 47:08Speaker 1: to be a total easy one. People will be able
- 47:10Speaker 1: to guess. It's so easy. But for our hint on
- 47:13Speaker 1: what the episode coming up is, I'm going to just
- 47:14Speaker 1: post a picture of a super adorable moth.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Okay, if you do that right, Okay, okay, look forward
- 47:20Speaker 2: to seeing this all right.
