Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, thanks for checking out this bonus episode. Before
- 0:02Speaker 1: we get into it, though, I wanted to fill you
- 0:04Speaker 1: in on all the great content we got for you
- 0:06Speaker 1: this week here in Disgraceland. We just released a brand
- 0:09Speaker 1: new episode on Blondie, and tomorrow we're releasing a rewind
- 0:13Speaker 1: episode from our archive on Chris Brown. That's over in
- 0:16Speaker 1: the bad Lands feed. Check out some archive re releases
- 0:19Speaker 1: on River Phoenix and Tim Allen as well. All right,
- 0:21Speaker 1: let's get into it, shall we. Hey, discos, need a
- 0:27Speaker 1: little more Disgraceland in your life, just to touch to
- 0:30Speaker 1: get you through. Yeah, me too. This is the podcast
- 0:33Speaker 1: that comes after the podcast. Welcome to Disgraceland. The after Partie,
- 0:52Speaker 1: Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode, a little thing we
- 0:55Speaker 1: like to call the after party. This is the show
- 0:58Speaker 1: after the show, the party after the party, the bridge
- 1:00Speaker 1: to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to
- 1:03Speaker 1: the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt. On
- 1:06Speaker 1: this episode, we are talking, among other things, about our
- 1:09Speaker 1: new full episode on Blondie, this week's rewind episode on
- 1:14Speaker 1: Chris Brown, and of course your voicemails, text, dms and more,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and as always, a whole lot of Rosie all Right discos,
- 1:21Speaker 1: Let's get into it all right this week in Disgraceland,
- 1:36Speaker 1: brand new episode on Blondie, one of the great bands
- 1:39Speaker 1: to come out of the nineteen seventies punk new Wave
- 1:41Speaker 1: CBGBCN in New York City, fertile scene, great time for music,
- 1:46Speaker 1: great time for musical innovation as well, and also a
- 1:50Speaker 1: great time of fear, violent crime. Had the Five Borrows
- 1:54Speaker 1: in a stranglehold, Muggers, rapist, thieves, criminal deviance, all kinds
- 2:00Speaker 1: ran wild, wild in the streets. As Girl and Jeffrey
- 2:02Speaker 1: said so true New Yorkers like Blondie. Though they were tough,
- 2:06Speaker 1: they were kind of jaded and immune to the fierce
- 2:10Speaker 1: city vibes that inflicted the tourists who came to New
- 2:13Speaker 1: York City. Blondie's Debbie Harry, in particular, she was not
- 2:17Speaker 1: a victim. She's a survivor. She was not a mark.
- 2:20Speaker 1: But she nearly became a victim as soon to be
- 2:23Speaker 1: infamous serial killer offered her a ride. So Debbie Harry
- 2:26Speaker 1: wrote all about her infamous encounter with soon to be
- 2:29Speaker 1: serial killer Ted Bundy in her autobiography Face It, which
- 2:33Speaker 1: came out back in twenty nineteen. Okay, this is to
- 2:37Speaker 1: me one of the greatest connections between music and true
- 2:41Speaker 1: crime in history. It is also quite literally the reason
- 2:46Speaker 1: I do this podcast. These weird fucking connections. Now, let's
- 2:51Speaker 1: just address the elephant in the room really quick. Did
- 2:54Speaker 1: this happen? Did Debbie Harry? As I put forth in
- 2:58Speaker 1: the new full episode on Blondie, and as Debbie Harry
- 3:02Speaker 1: confirms to be true, states to be true in her
- 3:04Speaker 1: book and has done elsewhere, the fact that she was
- 3:08Speaker 1: once given a ride by Ted Bundy and who tried
- 3:11Speaker 1: to abduct her and she then escaped. Now, a lot
- 3:14Speaker 1: of people call bullshit on this, but here's the deal.
- 3:16Speaker 1: This is the greatest type of storytelling. It's myth, meaning
- 3:20Speaker 1: you can't prove that it happened, but you can't prove
- 3:23Speaker 1: that it didn't happen either. I've talked about this before. Now,
- 3:26Speaker 1: a lot of people point to the fact that Ted
- 3:28Speaker 1: Bundy never killed anybody in New York City, and that
- 3:30Speaker 1: Ted Bundy was not known to be an East Coast guy,
- 3:34Speaker 1: that he wasn't in New York City at the time.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But however, there is evidence that he was in Philadelphia
- 3:39Speaker 1: at the time, which is only about an hour's drive
- 3:42Speaker 1: from New York City. So who you gonna believe? I'm
- 3:47Speaker 1: choosing to believe the victim here. I couldn't help myself.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I'm choosing to believe Debbie Harry here, not out of
- 3:54Speaker 1: some like you know, false sense of victims rights or
- 3:57Speaker 1: anything like that, but just because this is a damn
- 3:59Speaker 1: good story. And Debbie Harry is a pretty credible person
- 4:02Speaker 1: when you look at her past and you look how
- 4:04Speaker 1: authentically she's represented herself in her art and everything else.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Who knows, maybe she wanted to sell books. I don't know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: but this story is just too good to put down.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I've been talking about this forever since I first thought
- 4:16Speaker 1: of this podcast. I wanted to do this episode when
- 4:19Speaker 1: I did those live shows back in gosh, when were
- 4:22Speaker 1: they twenty nineteen?
- 4:23Speaker 2: I did.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I had a bit at the end of the shows
- 4:25Speaker 1: where I would do this sort of like true or
- 4:28Speaker 1: false thing with these absurd stories the musicians how to
- 4:34Speaker 1: part it, and this Ted Bundy Debbie Harry thing was
- 4:39Speaker 1: part of it even back then. So I've been itching
- 4:42Speaker 1: to tell this story. So the response has been great
- 4:45Speaker 1: so far. I love that you guys are responding to it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I love that you were there for the shock of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the Ted Bundy thing. I'm down with it. If you
- 4:53Speaker 1: know any other information on this, anyone out there listening
- 4:55Speaker 1: who knows Debbie Harry has perhaps some different insight into
- 4:58Speaker 1: this personally from her in touch, let me know, all right.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight. Also,
- 5:05Speaker 1: if you are a listener out there and you've heard
- 5:07Speaker 1: this story and you think it's bullshit, let me know.
- 5:09Speaker 1: If you think it's not, let me know. We list
- 5:11Speaker 1: let me know what you think of the episode. Six
- 5:12Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. All right.
- 5:15Speaker 1: We'll do some emails right now at Disgrace slam Pod.
- 5:19Speaker 1: This email here from Lawrence, who writes in uh, let's
- 5:23Speaker 1: see here, subject Sam Cook, March sixth, twenty eighteen. He's
- 5:27Speaker 1: referring to the release date that we put out the
- 5:30Speaker 1: Sam Cook episode, which I believe is yeah, that's uh,
- 5:34Speaker 1: the third episode we released. That's one day before my
- 5:37Speaker 1: second son was born. And the message says, hey, just
- 5:41Speaker 1: listen to this. I disagree. Things are complicated, more complicated
- 5:45Speaker 1: than you reported. No, I don't think it was the mafia,
- 5:48Speaker 1: his wife or a planned hit by the motel manager.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Not enough room here to express myself. So I will
- 5:54Speaker 1: just say baby drowning, bad contract signing, the weight of sin,
- 5:59Speaker 1: alcohol abuse, unpaid prostitute, and a murdered husband boyfriend. And
- 6:04Speaker 1: that's the message from Lawrence, who sounds like he has
- 6:07Speaker 1: some information that we don't have. So Lawrence, appreciate the email.
- 6:10Speaker 1: My man right back or hit me back six one
- 6:13Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight. If you
- 6:15Speaker 1: want to talk about it further, if you want to
- 6:16Speaker 1: talk about it confidentially, we can do that. Just let
- 6:19Speaker 1: me know that's what you prefer, and I won't talk
- 6:21Speaker 1: about it here in this public space. This one from
- 6:26Speaker 1: Rob O'Connor. This is a recent one. Rob writes in
- 6:29Speaker 1: thank you, that's the subject line. Hey, there been listening
- 6:32Speaker 1: since the beginning. It was disappointed to stop when the
- 6:36Speaker 1: show went exclusive. Just wanted to reach out and say
- 6:39Speaker 1: how happy I am that the show is available everywhere
- 6:41Speaker 1: again and I look forward to catching up on the backlog.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Keep up the good work, Rob, Rob my man, welcome back,
- 6:47Speaker 1: Welcome back to Disgraceland. We're happy to have you and Rob,
- 6:51Speaker 1: you've missed a lot. We've got a lot of episodes.
- 6:54Speaker 2: A ton.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Not only did we re release all the episodes that
- 6:57Speaker 1: you missed that were exclusive. We've all s so upped
- 7:01Speaker 1: our ante this year. We've produced twice as many episodes
- 7:04Speaker 1: as we normally do. Every week we're releasing a new
- 7:07Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland. You're getting back just in time. You
- 7:11Speaker 1: can catch up, and you're here at the perfect moment,
- 7:14Speaker 1: Rob because we right now at Double Elvis are getting
- 7:18Speaker 1: together our plans for twenty twenty four. And let me
- 7:22Speaker 1: just tell you as it pertains to Disgraceland and bad
- 7:26Speaker 1: Lands or Sportsland or Hollywood Land or any of the lands,
- 7:29Speaker 1: any of the storytelling we're doing, we have boku goodness
- 7:34Speaker 1: for you guys for next year. Big change is coming,
- 7:38Speaker 1: we think in a good way. Lots more content coming.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Merch is coming. I've heard you. I've heard you all year.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You've been reaching out to me. Where's the merch, where's
- 7:47Speaker 1: the merch, where's the merch? I need the merch, I
- 7:49Speaker 1: want the merch. Give me the merch. And I've been like,
- 7:52Speaker 1: I don't have it. I don't know what to tell you. Well, listen,
- 7:54Speaker 1: we're starting, We're getting it back up. We're refilling the basics,
- 7:59Speaker 1: and I have a plan to be re releasing merch
- 8:01Speaker 1: on a regular basis going forward. I also have a
- 8:04Speaker 1: plan that I'm working on so that we can engage
- 8:06Speaker 1: more this voicemail six one, seven, nine oh six sixty
- 8:09Speaker 1: six three eight text message thing that we've been doing, rob.
- 8:11Speaker 1: You can reach out. You don't have to just email.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You can hit me on text and voicemail. We've been
- 8:15Speaker 1: doing this for I don't know, six seven months now.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It's inspired me in different ways. We have this great
- 8:20Speaker 1: conversation going on. We've got this awesome community here. But
- 8:24Speaker 1: I got to tell you, after six seven eight months
- 8:27Speaker 1: of doing this, I'm feeling a little limited. I'm feeling
- 8:28Speaker 1: a little constrained. It's hard. You guys, text and voicemail
- 8:33Speaker 1: a lot, and I no doubt sense that you are
- 8:35Speaker 1: frustrated at my lack of response. I'm telling you, I'm
- 8:37Speaker 1: trying to respond. It's just hard. I'm not complaining, but
- 8:42Speaker 1: I'm just telling you it's difficult when you have hundreds
- 8:44Speaker 1: of texts to respond to them all or even a few.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But I'm working on a way to solve this problem,
- 8:50Speaker 1: to keep the engagement going, but make it so it's
- 8:52Speaker 1: a better experience for all of us. All right, More
- 8:54Speaker 1: on that in the coming weeks. But this is all
- 8:56Speaker 1: to say, I guess you know. I wasn't gonna do
- 8:58Speaker 1: this until later, but I'll do it now. Thanksgiving is
- 9:01Speaker 1: in what two days? No, it's tomorrow, it's in one day.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You're gonna be getting this on Thanksgiving, this episode. I'm
- 9:06Speaker 1: grateful for you, guys. I'm grateful for this community. I'm
- 9:10Speaker 1: thankful that you're in my ear. You're calling me, you're
- 9:12Speaker 1: texting me, you're hitting me up on DMS, you're listening
- 9:15Speaker 1: to these episodes. They matter to you. The conversations we're
- 9:18Speaker 1: having about these larger than life personalities, be they musicians
- 9:23Speaker 1: or actors in the bad Lands feed or even athletes
- 9:26Speaker 1: who've talked about them as well. You guys always bring
- 9:29Speaker 1: something interesting to the table. You inspire me. You make
- 9:33Speaker 1: me think about how I want this podcast to live
- 9:36Speaker 1: in the world and grow in the world, and what
- 9:37Speaker 1: I want to talk about, what I want to research,
- 9:39Speaker 1: what I want to write. Same goes for the folks
- 9:41Speaker 1: who work here at Double Elvis. I know Zeth Lundy
- 9:44Speaker 1: is thinking he feels the same exact way as he's
- 9:46Speaker 1: hearing this, So just we are grateful. I am personally
- 9:49Speaker 1: grateful thank you. Let's not stop. Twenty twenty four is
- 9:54Speaker 1: going to be a banger of a year. All right,
- 9:57Speaker 1: enjoy your families this Thanksgiving break. I'm going to take
- 9:59Speaker 1: a quick break right here. I'll be back though, in
- 10:01Speaker 1: just a few minutes. All right, we are back. And
- 10:27Speaker 1: before we get into your voicemail and your texts, I
- 10:29Speaker 1: just want to do a quick little couple beats here
- 10:32Speaker 1: on Blondie the band. Okay, because Debbie Harry eats up
- 10:36Speaker 1: a lot of the real estate when we think and
- 10:39Speaker 1: talk about Blondie. There's even some folks who have thought
- 10:43Speaker 1: and always will think that Debbie Harry is Blondie. But
- 10:45Speaker 1: she's not their real band. They're They're They're They're a
- 10:47Speaker 1: full band, a rock and roll band. It is not
- 10:49Speaker 1: a solo act. It never has been, never will be.
- 10:53Speaker 1: And I just want to say they're a great band.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And when they were one of the first MTV bands ever,
- 10:59Speaker 1: And when I was a teeny tiny little boy and
- 11:03Speaker 1: conscious of television, quite frankly left alone by my parents
- 11:07Speaker 1: or my babysitter to just watch television that was probably
- 11:11Speaker 1: highly inappropriate to me, but nonetheless had a great deal
- 11:15Speaker 1: of influence on me. And who I am today. Blondie
- 11:17Speaker 1: was one of the first music videos that I think
- 11:20Speaker 1: I'd ever seen, not the first. I think adam Ant
- 11:22Speaker 1: was probably the first. Clash Rock the Kasbob, Sorry, yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 1: rock the Kasbob, but Blondie might have been I don't know,
- 11:29Speaker 1: two or three four, something like that. So major influence
- 11:33Speaker 1: on me, major, major, major influence on me, And still
- 11:35Speaker 1: to this day when I hear Blondie, I feel good inside.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I feel nostalgic. But now I can look at it
- 11:40Speaker 1: objectively and I can actually look at what they were doing.
- 11:44Speaker 1: What they were doing was genre, what they were doing
- 11:46Speaker 1: with style, what they were doing against the grain of
- 11:50Speaker 1: the scene that they were in that was propelling them.
- 11:53Speaker 1: At the same time, they were mightily subversive and just
- 11:57Speaker 1: beyond cool. Blondie the band, and of course Debbie Harry,
- 12:03Speaker 1: the front woman. You could just I talk about aliens
- 12:07Speaker 1: landing on the planet all the time and how we
- 12:08Speaker 1: would explain things to them. You could just if you
- 12:10Speaker 1: wanted to explain the word cool, you could just show
- 12:12Speaker 1: them a picture of Blondie. You really could. It would
- 12:14Speaker 1: do it, just that's it. You wouldn't even need words,
- 12:16Speaker 1: just show them Debbie Harry and they will understand what
- 12:19Speaker 1: cool is. At least that's my opinion, and I understand
- 12:21Speaker 1: that it's subjective. Six one seven nine oh six six
- 12:23Speaker 1: six three eight. Coolest looking band of all time? Okay,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you need a picture to explain how cool they are?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Maybe you can do it without words. Who is it?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Let me know? Six one seven nine oh six sixty
- 12:32Speaker 1: six three eight voicemail and text. Speaking of which, let's
- 12:35Speaker 1: get into some voicemails right now. All right, so let's
- 12:37Speaker 1: check out this voicemail from Steve in the four one
- 12:41Speaker 1: two HI named.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Steve Kind about Mark Almond. One of my favorites from
- 12:46Speaker 3: Mark Almond is Mark Almond with Fetus. I can't remember
- 12:50Speaker 3: the exact name of the album, but it's a great
- 12:54Speaker 3: little interpretation of his wile to act with the fetus Industrialism. Yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure you know right now. He's a
- 13:03Speaker 3: member of Sauce Cell. He also played with people like
- 13:06Speaker 3: Psycho TV. He's a great, great musician.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Have a good day, all right, Steve, got gotta clear
- 13:12Speaker 1: up some confusion here. I was talking about Mark Almond
- 13:17Speaker 1: a couple bonus episodes back, I received a bunch of
- 13:21Speaker 1: voicemails like you're Steve, I got a bunch of dms
- 13:23Speaker 1: from some smart informed music fans like yourself, hipping me
- 13:29Speaker 1: to the fact that Mark Almond is the lead singer
- 13:32Speaker 1: for the band Soft Cell. Tainted Love great song also
- 13:36Speaker 1: covered by the Far Side Revelation Records band from way back.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I think it was Far Side, No, I think it
- 13:42Speaker 1: was Shades Apart. It was Shades Apart also on Revelation.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Wasn't the Far Side anyhow, I digress, but saw Cell
- 13:49Speaker 1: Mark Almond because I mentioned a song called the City
- 13:52Speaker 1: that I was obsessed with by Mark Almond. Now, as
- 13:55Speaker 1: soon as I heard this, I felt, oh, Jake, you moron,
- 13:59Speaker 1: How did you not know that this was the guy
- 14:01Speaker 1: from Soft Cell? And I was just I just happened
- 14:03Speaker 1: to see the video for tamed Love great video the
- 14:06Speaker 1: other night as well, and I was like, Wow, this
- 14:08Speaker 1: singer is really fucking interesting because I hadn't really seen
- 14:11Speaker 1: the band before, you know, so I look into it.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Turns out it's not the same Mark Almond. There's if
- 14:19Speaker 1: you go on Spotify you can in search the City
- 14:22Speaker 1: by Mark Almond. You will see what I'm talking about.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And they're also Mark Almond is stylized Mark Dash Almond. Okay,
- 14:31Speaker 1: So that got me thinking, Okay, what the hell's happening here?
- 14:33Speaker 1: So I looked into it and it's actually sometimes there's
- 14:35Speaker 1: sometimes owned as the Mark Almond Band. Two dudes, one
- 14:39Speaker 1: last named Mark, the other last named Almond, have this
- 14:42Speaker 1: sort of jazz fusion seventies thing that's incredible. And that's
- 14:47Speaker 1: what I was getting into, not Mark Almond from soft Cell,
- 14:52Speaker 1: but this fetus thing sounds really interesting. And now I
- 14:55Speaker 1: kind of want to reach out to Mark Almond because
- 14:57Speaker 1: I've gotten so much incoming from you guys on Mark
- 15:00Speaker 1: Almon fans frankly and uh soft Cell fans. I kind
- 15:03Speaker 1: of want to reach out to them and interview them
- 15:05Speaker 1: for you guys and talk to him here. I think
- 15:07Speaker 1: that'd be a really cool thing. Definitely a lot of interest.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So if you guys are interested in that, hit me up,
- 15:13Speaker 1: just you don't have to call, you know, tech six
- 15:15Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. See
- 15:17Speaker 1: what kind of interest we can get going here for
- 15:19Speaker 1: Mark Allman from Soft Cell interview, I'll get hip on
- 15:22Speaker 1: his whole catalog. Sounds like an interesting guy, looks like
- 15:25Speaker 1: an interesting guy. He's been making music for a long,
- 15:27Speaker 1: long long time. And has a real fan base, and
- 15:30Speaker 1: I think he'd be cool to talk to you, and
- 15:31Speaker 1: I think you guys would appreciate that. And I can
- 15:32Speaker 1: even get questions from you guys as well. All right,
- 15:34Speaker 1: six one seven nine oh six six six three eight,
- 15:37Speaker 1: let me know if you want to mark Almond email.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We'll see what we can do. All right, let's hear
- 15:40Speaker 1: from Ellie in the nine oh nine.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Hey, Jake, it's Ellie your guys here from the nine
- 15:46Speaker 4: oh nine, playing in on my own burning questions I
- 15:50Speaker 4: had about the wuting Sava that you just did. So
- 15:55Speaker 4: my favorite member is after All, which is a genius.
- 16:01Speaker 4: My favorite album of his is Liquid Swords from nineteen
- 16:04Speaker 4: ninety five, and my favorite looking album as a whole
- 16:08Speaker 4: group is obviously OG and thirty six Chambers. I'm sorry,
- 16:12Speaker 4: there's just no comparison and there never will be. And
- 16:15Speaker 4: then the fun set I learned while it's being to
- 16:17Speaker 4: you is that Gizza was the only member to trust
- 16:21Speaker 4: the full integrity of the entire rap game to not
- 16:26Speaker 4: even sign a contract to a Little Records. That's kind
- 16:28Speaker 4: of cool. I didn't even realize that it got that deep,
- 16:32Speaker 4: but that's awesome. And the quick Little five note is
- 16:35Speaker 4: that the gizz Rizza and ODB sure a grandma. That
- 16:40Speaker 4: just sounds really cool. Anyway, Yeah, thanks for the series man,
- 16:43Speaker 4: I was amazing and hopefully I hear more amazing stuff
- 16:49Speaker 4: coming out of the show.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Thanks Ellie, great voicemail. Thank you. Yeah, you know, I
- 16:55Speaker 1: was talking about this with Zeth, who I mentioned I
- 16:58Speaker 1: mentioned earlier. Zeth writes at Double Elvis, and we talk
- 17:02Speaker 1: a lot about what we're making, what most interests us
- 17:06Speaker 1: about these stories, and you're hitting the nail on the head,
- 17:10Speaker 1: you know, you just you know, you said the most
- 17:11Speaker 1: interesting fact for you, fun little factor I think is
- 17:14Speaker 1: how you quoted it about the Ji's and not signing
- 17:18Speaker 1: that contract, which is fascinating. But I think there's in
- 17:22Speaker 1: every episode we do, you know, even the Blondie Ted
- 17:25Speaker 1: Bundy connection that's a version of these sort of like
- 17:28Speaker 1: these elements of these stories that are just they're the
- 17:31Speaker 1: most interesting parts to me.
- 17:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 17:33Speaker 1: It's like if we're gonna watch a Debbie Harry documentary
- 17:38Speaker 1: or behind the Music, not to slight behind the music.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I love behind the music. I grew up on it,
- 17:43Speaker 1: or just something any documentary you're gonna get, you're gonna
- 17:45Speaker 1: get the same story, and what we're trying to do
- 17:48Speaker 1: is give you this interesting insight that's really compelling and
- 17:52Speaker 1: really interesting, and I feel like oftentimes I don't do
- 17:55Speaker 1: a good enough job talking about it here with you guys.
- 17:58Speaker 1: So thank you Ellie for for bringing one of these up.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And it's just interesting your time, He's perfect. A Zeth
- 18:03Speaker 1: and I were just talking about how we're going to
- 18:05Speaker 1: do this more. How are we going to talk more
- 18:06Speaker 1: about these how we're going to shine a light on
- 18:09Speaker 1: these interesting aspects of these stories, you know, because even
- 18:12Speaker 1: when I promote them, when I promote them on Instagram
- 18:15Speaker 1: where you see the metadata in your feed, or I
- 18:17Speaker 1: talk about it in here, I seldom get to those
- 18:20Speaker 1: like those weird little moments, you know, Like I talked
- 18:23Speaker 1: about it on in my stories this past week regarding
- 18:27Speaker 1: I don't know why, but I was thinking of Frank
- 18:29Speaker 1: Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and just the fact that you know,
- 18:33Speaker 1: Merrily Monroe, everyone knows you hooked up with John F. Kennedy.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You're gonna watch any documentary out there about Merril Monroe,
- 18:37Speaker 1: they're going to talk about her affair with John F.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Kennedy.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And the same goes for any documentary about John F. Kennedy,
- 18:41Speaker 1: they're going to talk about her his affair with Marilyn Monroe.
- 18:43Speaker 1: But the thing that they're not going to tell you
- 18:45Speaker 1: about probably is that Frank Sinatra is the one who
- 18:48Speaker 1: connected them at his home in Palm Springs and that's
- 18:50Speaker 1: where they first hooked up. And that, to me is
- 18:52Speaker 1: really interesting For some reason, I don't know why. It
- 18:55Speaker 1: just is same thing with John Lennon. The John Lennon
- 18:58Speaker 1: episode that we did. We did a two part around
- 18:59Speaker 1: John Lee and way back in season two of Disgraceland,
- 19:03Speaker 1: I believe, and in the research I found all these
- 19:07Speaker 1: amazing anecdotes about John Lennon, about what he watched on television,
- 19:11Speaker 1: about how he was obsessed with Barbara Walters and thought
- 19:13Speaker 1: she was smoking hot, you know, all this interesting stuff,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and I put a lot of it into the episode.
- 19:19Speaker 1: And that's just a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
- 19:21Speaker 1: There are these really interesting tidbits that the research throws
- 19:25Speaker 1: off that we try to put into these episodes that
- 19:27Speaker 1: you and I don't get enough time to talk about
- 19:30Speaker 1: and to geek out on. And I think, honestly, that's
- 19:32Speaker 1: why we're here. That's why you guys are listening to Disgraceland.
- 19:34Speaker 1: That's what makes that's in part what makes it different.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So again, Ellie, thanks for reminding me us of that.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And let's make a concerted effort in the new year
- 19:45Speaker 1: to talk more about these weird little anecdotes that are
- 19:48Speaker 1: in all these episodes. Let's do one more voicemail here,
- 19:51Speaker 1: this one from the seven to seven five.
- 19:54Speaker 5: Hi, Jake, this is from the seven five, and I
- 19:59Speaker 5: was telling me the one I'm to introduce myself, I'm
- 20:02Speaker 5: a trust driver. A friend of mine who's also a
- 20:05Speaker 5: trust driver, jes right, was the one man I introduced
- 20:08Speaker 5: me to this great plan and then I found the
- 20:12Speaker 5: after party and it's just been a fun riding. Since
- 20:16Speaker 5: I love your show. You're doing great work. So about
- 20:20Speaker 5: the question is to what song would be played at
- 20:22Speaker 5: my funeral? I would have to say Life is Beautiful
- 20:26Speaker 5: by six Am. Love that song because it's so true. Anyway,
- 20:32Speaker 5: thank you so much for listening, and I will start
- 20:35Speaker 5: to hear in at some point later down the road.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Here's Dank grabbing gears and make a smile.
- 20:43Speaker 1: All right, Stevie, thanks for leaving the voicemail. I think
- 20:45Speaker 1: I think that's what you said.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Your name was.
- 20:47Speaker 1: If I got it wrong, I apologize, but it sounds
- 20:49Speaker 1: like Stevie and Stevie give a shout to Desiree for
- 20:54Speaker 1: turning you on to Disgraceland. I love that I got
- 20:57Speaker 1: truckers out there driving around the world, hard working folks
- 21:01Speaker 1: out there listening to disgraced Land, delivering us all of
- 21:04Speaker 1: our goods, keeping the supply chain going, making sure we're
- 21:08Speaker 1: getting all our gifts, all our essentials, everything for the holidays.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Shout out to all of you in a big thanks
- 21:15Speaker 1: for making America run on time. Appreciate it. Have not
- 21:20Speaker 1: heard life is beautiful, but you're right. It is true.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's life is a beautiful thing. You're just You're totally right.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I don't really have much to add beyond beyond that,
- 21:30Speaker 1: so thanks for calling in. And I see some other
- 21:33Speaker 1: truckers who have called in, And unfortunately I can't play
- 21:36Speaker 1: all the voicemails here, which brings me to this this
- 21:41Speaker 1: thing we got to figure out. I got to figure
- 21:43Speaker 1: out how I engage with you guys more on these
- 21:47Speaker 1: voicemails and texts, and I promise you I'm working on
- 21:49Speaker 1: it now. We're going to keep doing them, obviously, but
- 21:53Speaker 1: we're going to find a way to do more. That's
- 21:54Speaker 1: what I'm trying to figure out with you guys. So
- 21:56Speaker 1: if you're not receiving a voicemail or a text back
- 21:59Speaker 1: from me away, be patient trying to get through them.
- 22:03Speaker 1: If you're not hearing your voicemail or your text in
- 22:06Speaker 1: one of these after party episodes, it's just it's the
- 22:08Speaker 1: hard reality. We don't have that much time. Truck or Joey,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I'm looking at you, Okay, Jay in the nine oh seven.

- 22:57Speaker 1: picks from you guys, and overwhelmingly, this is the greatest
- 23:02Speaker 1: onslaught of cuteness I've ever seen. Keep them coming. Love
- 23:06Speaker 1: the dog names that are music based. I met a
- 23:09Speaker 1: dog via text named the Thin white Duke and another
- 23:12Speaker 1: name Ziggy, and I thought that was really smart, all right.
