- 1:22and a half months or so, so you can check out that podcast for
- 1:26a look at World War Two through old time radio. Well, now it's
- 1:30time for today's episode of Patnovak for Hire Joe Condano at Novak War Hire.
- 2:07Sure, I'm Pat Novak for Hire. That's what the sign on in the
- 2:30front of my office says at Novak for Hire. It's an easy way to
- 2:35put it, because if you're going to make a living down on the waterfront
- 2:38in San Francisco, you got to do everything but run for office. I
- 2:43rent boats and kick around a few scruples. If the price is right,
- 2:47it's a living. And if anything goes wrong, you can always get your
- 2:52mother a visitors past. If you do get in trouble, you go first
- 2:57class all the way. I found that out. When I first met Doreen
- 3:02Wilde was almost dark and I was sitting in the office with the door open
- 3:08when she first showed up. Showed up to the right word. The wind
- 3:15was blowing outside and pushed her dress tightly against her legs as she walked in.
- 3:22She was young. From what I could see. She made Cleopator look
- 3:25like apple Mary. She had a voice like a bowl of warm stew.
- 3:32Hello are you mister Novak? That's my story. I'm Dorian wild MONDAVI saidan
- 3:39on your desk here, you'll block the view. You'll get used to the
- 3:43new one there. Now lean back and let me look at you. Mm.
- 3:53I want to hire you, mister Novak, after the looker before.
- 3:57You've got a power complex. Darling. You know a man named Joe Condonald.
- 4:02He's a gambler out on Geary Street friend of yours. I don't just
- 4:05like him that much. Well, you have business connections. That's why I
- 4:10want to hire you to give him some money tonight. A needy case or
- 4:13a bad debt. A bad debt, Condono has an iou for my brother
- 4:17for ten thousand dollars. You can go from there. Not if I'm supposed
- 4:19to say it was a fixed game. Condonah's been around a long time,
- 4:23that's right. There are only two kinds of gamblers in this town, honest
- 4:26ones and dead ones. So if your brother owes ten grand, you better
- 4:29pay. That's why I'm hiring you. Just pay off can Donald and make
- 4:31sure you get the pictures pictures of the Grand Canyon. Huh. We'll talk
- 4:35about my past another time. For the moment, we'll just say you're photo
- 4:39check. That's right. Your brother can't get the ten grand, so Condnah's
- 4:44shaking you down. Yes, I'll bet you make a nice rattle. How
- 4:49did Condonah get the pictures? My brother gave him to him? You got
- 4:53a charming brother, you see only his better side. Will you do the
- 4:57job for one hundred dollars? How long is it going to take? Two
- 5:00hours? Maybe? You have to meet with my brother. To meet with
- 5:03your brother a hundred bucks, as Coolly wages. You'll give you the information,
- 5:06then you can see con Donald. Where do I meet your brother?
- 5:10Room seven twenty nine the Dixie Hotel. He'll be there about eight thirty packing
- 5:14crate down on Powell Street. Your brother's acutie. I know why knows it
- 5:16wouldn't go in there. We'll meet you there at eight thirty. Oh,
- 5:20are you're going to be there? Yeah? Do you mind? I can
- 5:26stand it. Did you carry a spare battery without gleaming your eye? Here?
- 5:30One hundred bucks covers that too. See you at eight thirty. She
- 5:44smiled at me, and I felt like a guy that just found an oil
- 5:46well in the basement. There were a lot of things about the deal.
- 5:49I didn't like that. She kind of made you forget. I kept remembering
- 5:55her as she walked out of there with a slow, easy gait. She
- 5:59had knee acts and to make a Nash jealous well. I hit the Dixie
- 6:03Hotel about eight twenty five. It was the kind of a hotel that has
- 6:08a four am checkout rule. There were two or three guys sitting around reading
- 6:12tip sheets and over in the corner, a couple of well upholstered gals.
- 6:15We're talking about recipes. I guess the desk clerk was the worst of a
- 6:19lot. He looked like a guy that might have been expelled from Alcatraz.
- 6:24Nobody looked up as I walked through. When I got the seven twenty nine,
- 6:27I knocked. There was no answer, so I opened the door and
- 6:31walked in. There was a bed lamp on and a lot of smoke in
- 6:34the room. Through the smoke, I could pick out the committee, and
- 6:38they were crazy about me. One in looking for someone. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:43but she's got a better figure than you do. No, she's not
- 6:46here. I'll just run along. You need the ventilation, I said,
- 6:50close to the door. I'll sit down. Sit down on the bed there.
- 6:55You're a tough host, so I'm broken hotted. Just be a good
- 7:00boy now and give it to me. You got the wrong guy. Give
- 7:02it to me fast, mister. I don't know what you're talking about.
- 7:04I came up here to meet somebody already met him. I run across better
- 7:08people and sewers now look to meet here. I'm not gonna say this once
- 7:11more, so make a copy. You got the wrong guy. You think
- 7:12I got something, I haven't got it. No, no, So you
- 7:14and your playmates swing out of here in your tails. I never saw you
- 7:15into three minutes ago, and I'm tired of the friendship already. All right,
- 7:19Eddie, go through this guy's coat. Sure. Now wash your hands,
- 7:25Junior, and then put them in your own pockets. You you got
- 7:30a favorite profile, fella, because I'm gonna put this gun on one side.
- 7:34Take your choice, grab him, hold him up, all right,
- 7:45Eddie, Now you don't have to wash your hands. I woke up with
- 8:01a head the size of Rhode Island. I rolled over and tried to get
- 8:05up, but I was about as strong as a moth in a wind tunnel.
- 8:09The room was dark and I couldn't see very well. It was a
- 8:13stale, musty odor. Could have been a marathon dancers dressing room with a
- 8:18little fixing up, the sort of place you wouldn't be found dead in.
- 8:22It was a guy lying next to me who didn't feel that way about it.
- 8:28One look at the guy and I could see was dead from the crew
- 8:30cut down. Somebody wrapped a towel around his throat and forgot to say when
- 8:35I should have got out of there right then. But I used my brain
- 8:37like a bottle of medicine, a small dose every three hours. I stood
- 8:43there looking down at him, felt like a guy that's just rolled a seven.
- 8:46The second time out. A small chunk of light squeezed through the door,
- 8:50and I could see particles of dust settling on his face. He was
- 8:54lying there, straight and white faced, with a little bit of scowl,
- 8:58as if he didn't like the idea. I went through his wallet and found
- 9:03a few bucks and some identification enough to prove he was Frank Wilde, Doreen's
- 9:09brother. Oh, it looked nice and clear. They've done everything but Pinley
- 9:13ioe, you and his shirt. Well. I couldn't wait around, because
- 9:18when homicide got there, I was going to be as popular as a can
- 9:20of salmon on Friday. Homicide meant Inspector Helman, a guy that couldn't even
- 9:24make the vice squad. We were as close as a piccolo and a bass
- 9:28trombone. I got to thinking about him and have decided to get out of
- 9:31there. It was a good idea. Five minutes ago, Hello Novank,
- 9:43Oh Helman, small wake, Uh, just a few close friends. You
- 9:48always dropped by Room seven twenty nine this time tonight. I got a bad
- 9:50memory for faces. Who's your friend? His name's Frank Wilde. That's one
- 9:54man soon I was supposed to meet him here at eight thirty. That's another.
- 9:58You got a thirty Who killed? I don't know, Helman, Maybe
- 10:01three or four people, Maybe a pack of lugs from Joe can Dono's.
- 10:03Yeah, I think you're modest Novak. I think maybe you killed him.
- 10:07Oh yeah, sure, I wrapped the tolerant of his neck, beat myself
- 10:09to death with a pistol, and jumped into the same grave. Maybe.
- 10:13Oh, stop at Helman. That isn't smart. That still leaves you in
- 10:15the running. I came up here to make a hundred bucks. That's all
- 10:16I know about it. Check down at the desk. They'll tell you.
- 10:20I checked. On the way up. The desk, clerk says, room
- 10:22seven twenty nine is in your name. Get your dough back, Helman,
- 10:26you've been hijacked. Yeah, look up a gal named Doreen Wilde. Who
- 10:28is she? The stiff sister? He got in a jam with Joe Condno
- 10:31and bailed himself out with some pictures. Oh what kind of pictures? You
- 10:37Just look her up and find out where she was at nine o'clock tonight.
- 10:39I got a bird in the hand and call on Joe Candno his Gunzel's held
- 10:41a convention here tonight. That's too much legwork. You're handy, Novak.
- 10:45I can't afford a bum rap Helman. Get yourself another boy. You get
- 10:46me one your hotel room. There's a dead guy in it, and you've
- 10:50got a bad record. I can make that add up for the DA.
- 10:52You can't add a pair of zero's without crib notes, helmet. I can
- 10:54try hard, and I'll be all through in twenty four hours. That's how
- 10:58long you've got, Novak. You got one day, and you're not gonna
- 11:00be lonesome because I'm gonna put a tail on you the whole time. That'll
- 11:03be fun. I'm gonna know where you are every minute. Stop posing.
- 11:07You couldn't follow an elephant across a basketball court. Just stay handy, Novak.
- 11:11I'll be ready. I'm gonna fingerprint this room and run that towel through
- 11:13a test, and then I'll be ready. Yeah, you better watch out
- 11:16for that toe. Huh. Remember when it comes to towel's helm and you
- 11:20have to start from scratch. Well, when I left Helman was smiling like
- 11:35an Academy Award winner. I didn't blame him, because from my side of
- 11:39the road things looked rough. From here in he could play a pat hand
- 11:43and come out all right. There are only two other people, Joe Candano
- 11:48and that girl. I was real worried, so I looked up the only
- 11:52honest guy I know, a next doctor and a boozer by the name of
- 11:56Jack o'madigan. He was all right, for a guy who tries to drink
- 12:00all the whiskey in the world every night. Only some night he's gonna make
- 12:03it. I finally found him at the Bellevue Hotel, hold up in the
- 12:07hunt room. He was getting a most he could out of a bottle hold
- 12:09whiskey and young ideas. It was ten o'clock and he was carrying a bigger
- 12:13load than the Berlin airlift. Oh a drink from mister Novaka and one for
- 12:22me. I'll have to catch up, skip me. You're busy, chuckle.
- 12:24I'm deep in the labor of love. What happened to your faith?
- 12:28I got a better offer. I'm in a jam, Jocko. You gotta
- 12:31help me. You're always in a jam. You're the eternal patsy. Also,
- 12:35you're my solitary reason for going on forget a juckle. Well, you're
- 12:39the last project Providence has allowed me, an old derv that fate has thrown
- 12:45me to nibble on. I'my your conscience, you know, all right?
- 12:48All right? You have no conscience of your own. Oh you have fleeting
- 12:52moments of fright, which you confuse is moral sense, but no conscience.
- 12:56All right, let's get off the potform, shall we. I need help
- 12:58quick er? What kind of jam A big one? Yeah? I woke
- 13:01up about an hour ago holding hands with a dead man. Where Room seven
- 13:05twenty nine at the Dixie Hotel. I hope you changed rooms. Hellman walked
- 13:09in and found me praying for the dead. He's got an idea. I
- 13:11did it a shrewd policeman. I was the second feature. We opened it
- 13:15with a pistol whipping by Joe Condonald's gunsles. Oh you gotta help me?
- 13:18What drink till? Helman's got a guy telling me I gotta go slow JACKO.
- 13:24I want you to hit Condano's place and pick up every scrap of dope
- 13:26with you, I'd look out of place in the gambling joint. There's a
- 13:30bar to other joint find out when the boys got back. Did you plan
- 13:33to be hiding under a rosebush? I'm going up to see a girl.
- 13:37She's the dead guy's sister. Are you going up to extend sympathy. She's
- 13:41mixed up too. Candnah's holding some blackmail pictures. Let's reverse the assignment now.
- 13:48Look you see candnal out tagged by Dreen Wilds's place. Eh, she
- 13:52must be Harry Wilde's daughter. Who's the money crowd? To use a low
- 13:56term, what's you like? I retired Octo per after he got sick chasing
- 14:01cigarette girls. He settled down to be a social worker. Now he's like
- 14:05all social workers, a guy who's embarrassed because he wasn't born poor, and
- 14:11for years he's been annoying the poor by trying to help them at can Donald's
- 14:15place. Now, if you hit anything good for me at her apartment,
- 14:18keep out of trouble. I'd say the same to you if it weren't futile.
- 14:22Good night, lover. When I walked out, Geary Street was cold
- 14:37and deserted. The fog had moved in and staked out of claim all the
- 14:41way down on Market street. There were two marines across the street arguing,
- 14:50so I didn't hear it at first. When I got out of range,
- 14:54I began to hear the footsteps behind me. I stopped once, and the
- 15:01footsteps broke off. I walked on a few yards, and the footsteps are
- 15:05right behind me. They had a familiar ring, and I was sure it
- 15:09was either Helman or a water buffalo. When I stopped and waited, Helman
- 15:13locked up. You're out late, no VC, what happened to that tale?
- 15:20He asked for more dope. I put our best man on it.
- 15:22Where are you going? Well, now, I'll bet you get some real
- 15:24good answers on that question. How are you going? Smart boy? Doreen
- 15:26Wild's apartment? Yeah? Why to find out where she was at nine o'clock
- 15:30to night. It won't do you any good. Why coroner's report the guy
- 15:33got knocked off about seven o'clock tonight. Well, he took a long time
- 15:35dying. That towel was a joke. If he wasn't strangled, he would
- 15:39have been red faced. He wasn't. Let me guess, Helman. He
- 15:41died of lingering malaria. Yeah, he was poisoned. That means he was
- 15:45dead when you brought him in. Yeah, that changes things a little.
- 15:50Let me keep your no back. I'm busy anyway. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:54checking your alibi for seven o'clock. I had no alibi for seven o'clock.
- 16:11That was right after the girl left my office. Oh, I might be
- 16:14able to dig up a witness that wasn't sure. It's like asking a horse
- 16:18if he's going to win the derby. Well, questions were piling up.
- 16:23So I dropped by Dreen Wiles's apartment. I began to wonder was right next
- 16:30door to Candano's place. When she opened the door, I thought out,
- 16:34what the right kind of breakfast food will do. She was wearing a slack
- 16:40suit without much slacking. She was swinging slightly in a warm, slow way.
- 16:48Well, there was any rhythm there. It's the kind you hear one
- 16:51thousand miles down the Amazon. When she said hello, you knew it was
- 16:56all chemistry. I missed you at Room seven nine. This alte just as
- 17:00well. I mean, yeah, they're wearing your face a different style.
- 17:07Yeah. Con Donah's boys didn't like it the old way. I like it.
- 17:11I like it very much. Then what happened to you tonight? Frank
- 17:14was supposed to pick me up. He didn't come back. I see your
- 17:17brother finally showed up at the hotel. Yeah, yeah, he paid off
- 17:19that I owe you. Is that a quaint way of telling me he's dead?
- 17:22I suppose, Oh, don't sob so loud, you'll wake the neighbors.
- 17:26You know by this time that to me, Frank was a poor excuse
- 17:27at best, nothing more. Besides, I knew he was dead. Father's
- 17:33down there now identifying the body. Just for the record, who has those
- 17:36pictures? Now? And donah? I suppose his boys piled me tonight looking
- 17:40for something. I got the idea it wasn't my social Security number. Oh
- 17:42you better busy. Yeah, they're gonna book me for Frank's murder. Just
- 17:45call me, Patsy. You need a drink and it can wait. Now.
- 17:49Look, you're gonna save some time if you tell me right now.
- 17:51No, I didn't kill Frank. I'll be willing to contribute to a shrine
- 17:55for the man who did. How about can donah? I don't know.
- 17:57In fact, I don't know mister Donald fursded. Yeah, go ahead,
- 18:07Patsy. I'll give you five thousand dollars to find out who killed Thanks.
- 18:11Oh, I'll admit it was a good idea of killing you, but I
- 18:14want to see the family name cleared up. Why don't you change names?
- 18:17That's easy? Will you do it? I may hang and you can save
- 18:22you're five grand as you drink. The money might help to the call out
- 18:27a pardon suit you say, they don't understand there balancing that drink it?
- 18:37Do you know you're an interesting guy, Patsy? I like you? Yeah?
- 18:45Yeah, don't snowball statement? Why'd you make it? Then? Seems
- 18:49safe enough? Be sure you're a little clothes Patsy? Are you sure this
- 18:57boy? I don't care? Come here, baby, what's on your mind?
- 19:07I can die? Do the guy? Jee? Looks like you got
- 19:11an offer? Father, you forgotten his key? Excuse me, I'm on
- 19:18over. Father. W did meet mister Novak? Yeah? They think I
- 19:22killed your son? Hi, he's the one I told you about. Oh
- 19:26yes, yes, now I remember. It's probably for me. Hello,
- 19:32Oh oh yeah, I think so. I'll be right there. I got
- 19:40to run, darlings only be gone a while. Father, keep mister Novak
- 19:44sober. I'll pick up from there. Good night, Father. Do you
- 19:48do a remarkable girl? She's active too? Does she always sail out for
- 19:56a night camp a remarkable girl, more so than Frank's. I'm afraid so
- 20:03he seems like I'm better dead man. At least he's more harmless that way.
- 20:07Perhaps that sounds unbecoming of a father. He looks better that way,
- 20:12So to yourself, I've never made any attempt to camouflage my feelings. I'm
- 20:17fond of my daughter and my son. I've loaned in a casual way.
- 20:23He's a mishap of nature, which for years I've been content to blame on
- 20:27his mother, this matter of a gambling debt case in point. You know
- 20:33about that? Oh yes, plus Jane's liberal contribution to the problem. By
- 20:38the way, mister Nova, who did kill him? That? Maybe you
- 20:44did? No, I'm not a doer. I just cheer from against excuse
- 20:52me, Hello, it's yeah, hello, hello, Patchie. I'm down
- 21:03at Condona. I know that. What'd you find out? Never played two
- 21:07and eight on a rule at all? Right, dropped the clowning, and
- 21:10I found out about your friend. Yeah. They came in about ten o'clock,
- 21:14so that puts them right in line. No, not anymore. The
- 21:17guy got knocked off at seven o'clock. Oh, impatient, wasn't he?
- 21:21In that case, you'd better start looking for a tire between the girl and
- 21:25Gondana. Not a chance. She doesn't even know Condona. She makes friends
- 21:30very quickly. Then, because she just walked into his office, all things
- 21:44were beginning to fall into place. If the girl and Condonna were that chummy,
- 21:48they were using those pictures to squeeze the old man. Probably. There's
- 21:52only one thing about it that didn't make sense. Why did Condano's boys beat
- 21:56my brains out? If he had the pictures all along? Well? I
- 22:00talked to the old man a while, and then I headed for Condono's joint.
- 22:04They were closed when I got there, so I went home to bed.
- 22:11I'll be given a good price if tomorrow never rolled around. But the
- 22:14sun was eating through the haze the next morning when I walked into Candano's place,
- 22:18A sad old bitdy with a mop told me Condonah was in his office.
- 22:21So I knocked in the door. Yeah, hello, Condnah, I'm
- 22:26the guy your boy's pistol whipped man. Come on in. I wouldn't worry.
- 22:33Maybe you'll heal handsome. Thanks, I'm sorry about that. I'll bet
- 22:37you are. Oh that's the way you'll get it. It won't come and
- 22:38grave if I say I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Oh you're full of tears.
- 22:41You're gonna shed one when they send me up on a bum murder rap.
- 22:45No, I'll buy you a handkerchief. Though. If you got the
- 22:45time, you might tell me what Doreen Wilde was doing in here last night.
- 22:48What are you kid? Maybe we're in love and maybe you're putting a
- 22:51screws on old man wild Hello. Yeah, did you tell anybody you were
- 22:59coming in? No? Just the birdie, it's for you. Yeah,
- 23:03hello Jacko. When where I'm sitting it doesn't make sense? Oh of course
- 23:11not. Yeah, y'all let you know how you're feeling. Canna get to
- 23:18that point, Novec. They found a dead guy out in the marina this
- 23:22morning. He was shot and banged up badly, but they identified him.
- 23:26What's that? Nothing except the identified him as Joe can Donno confused. Ah,
- 23:33there's a guy named Deddy Darrow, friend of yours. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:37I guess he was. What does that prove? Prove? Slots Novak,
- 23:42It proves unless you're find her in a cemetery. Never trust a woman
- 24:00well with a good assist from deep short. We could make it now,
- 24:02I knew that, and Donnah was mad about something and the lid was gonna
- 24:04blow. I called Helman. His lid was gone ten minutes ago. He
- 24:08had the murder gun and it belonged to old man Wild. A messenger walked
- 24:11in and put it on the sergeant's desk a few hours ago with no explanation.
- 24:17That was the clincher. From here on in, it was cakes and
- 24:18ale. I told Helman what I knew. He picked me up at Gary
- 24:22and Taylor and we headed for the Wild apartment. The girl and the old
- 24:25man were in the living room whom we walked in. Everybody had breakfast.
- 24:26Tatsy, I didn't know you came out Hill after dark. We just wanted
- 24:30to call on your old man. Wow, this is Inspector Helman. Is
- 24:33there anything I can do? Your ambitious Wild? Helman's here to arrest you
- 24:37for murder. I'm a mule, but not frightened. They might have gone
- 24:41easy on you for killing your son, but not Eddie Daryl. And who
- 24:44is Eddie Darree? The guy you thought was Condna when you killed him last
- 24:47night? Your daughter was helping him put on that squeeze. She even sent
- 24:48in your gun this morning. Please, Dory, tell these men well starting
- 24:55backfield, Hello, Condnad'll step aside. Novack. You don't need that gun,
- 24:57Joe full on, all right, Push the guy out there, Push
- 25:02the guy out there again. But these are bad odds. Joe. Just
- 25:03keep talking, just keep talking aloud, and when you stop all of a
- 25:07sudden, you'll know I'm through it. You made the first witch, Joe.
- 25:08I didn't trust you, so I sent Eddy Darrow up. He was
- 25:11a good guy, and I, like I didn't killing Joe. You made
- 25:15it easy, though, say him fast baby here at common watch the old
- 25:19man and give me that gun. Yeah, I keep shooting the wrong people
- 25:29around here. I'm sorry, Bungle. Yeah, yeah, you bungled Joe.
- 25:37That's the old guy Novak. He should live so long, holme and
- 25:41he's dead. Gonna need me soon, Yeah right, now, come on,
- 25:47Joe, tag my headquarters, Novak. Sure, well, it's a
- 25:56fun one at last. Yeah, I'm sorry he jumped in front of me.
- 26:02He didn't have to do it. No, but you expected it.
- 26:06I suppose I made to expect things, Petsy, and you're not gonna mind
- 26:12this. I expected that too, you can slap me, but don't leave
- 26:21me. Patsy, I don't want to be alone. You got a cigarette,
- 26:29They're on the table. See match, Patsy, you go build your
- 26:36own fire. I'm leaving these, Patsy, I don't want to be alone.
- 26:38You won't. I'll send you a whistle goodbye. Oh it was a
- 27:07sweet double cross right from the start. Frank pitched the first curve. He
- 27:14stole the pictures from Candano's office the day of the payoff. He was going
- 27:18to wait for the dough from his sister and skip. In the meantime.
- 27:22The old man found out about it, killed the son, and left him
- 27:26in the hotel after Candono's boys had cleared out. Oh, it would have
- 27:32worked out all right, but Doreen found the pictures in the old man's room
- 27:36and guessed what happened. She gave him back to Candono and then made a
- 27:41deal with him to put a squeeze on the old man. And then she
- 27:45double cross Candonnal by tipping off the old man that can Donnah was on his
- 27:49way up. I guess he figured the girl for a fast play and sent
- 27:55a pal instead. The old man didn't know the difference. He really thought
- 28:00he killed Candonna, and then the girl wrapped it up by sending his gun
- 28:06to headquarters. Now things had gone right, she'd have been right in the
- 28:11middle of that gravy boat. Her brother and Candonna would be dead. Her
- 28:15father would be up on a murder wrap. Once it started unravel, it
- 28:19moved real fast. The first tip off I got was when she offered the
- 28:25dough for her brother's killer. She'd have all that dough and on the books.
- 28:30She lived on a field of her months snow she was feeling around between
- 28:36somebody's shoulder blades, and from then on all the cards fell just right.
- 28:42Candonah was probably right, they're not in the cemetery. Watch out well.
- 28:49Hellman had only one question, Why would a guy want to kill off a
- 28:53dame like that? After I saw the pictures, I wanted myself. The
- 29:12Armed Forces Radio Service has just brought you Pat Novak for hire, Darring Jack
- 29:18Webb. Pat Novak is produced by William P. Russo. Jack o'madigan is
- 29:22played by Tudor Owen. Inspector Hellman is played by Raymond Burr. Music was
- 29:26composed and conducted by Basil adnam Be with us again next week when over most
- 29:32of these same stations we'll bring you pat Novak for Hire. Welcome back.
- 30:30Well in terms of payment for trouble, this is probably one of those that
- 30:36makes the last least sense for pant Novak overall. But anyway, we turned
- 30:42out some listener comments and feedback. By the way, just glad that folks
- 30:48are enjoying pant Novak for Hire. I've been posting some of the quotes from
- 30:56various episodes as I record the show on Saturday nights, and had twenty eight
- 31:04likes on Facebook of the last episode. So appreciate it, and you can
- 31:08certainly go ahead and share this on Facebook, particular if you're on our Facebook
- 31:15page. All right, well, listener comments. As I said from Uri,
- 31:21who wrote, thank you for providing the old time radio attacks on podcasts.
- 31:27I remember when my mom first introduced me to old time radio on cassette
- 31:32and radio. I got hooked and couldn't get enough play cansettes over and over.
- 31:37For some years, I haven't listened to any of the radio programs and
- 31:40just recently stumbled across your podcast. Now at thirty one, I feel like
- 31:45a kid again. I get anxious and waiting for the next attective radio program.
- 31:49I love listening to Johnny Dollar, Nick Carter, Philip Marlow, and
- 31:52Pat Novak for hire in the near future. Will you be airing The Shadow,
- 31:57Not Beat, Green Horne or Near a Wolf Shadow and Green Hornet,
- 32:05No, because they're not detectives in the conventional set, so I think some
- 32:09of the Shadow stories could be considered detective. But The Shadows also has Collie
- 32:15Right claims which I feel they're somewhat dubious, but really don't have time or
- 32:22inclination to test in court. Near a Wolf we've already played and Not Beat
- 32:27as definitely on the list of programs that would like to do someday, and
- 32:32we'll probably be done on a Monday eventually, but we will play some preview
- 32:39episodes. We've actually played the one episode that was aired Not Bait, because
- 32:46they had four promotional reruns that were aired promoting Dangerous Assignment, Dragnet and Christopher
- 32:57London, and we already did the promotional episode that aired for Christopher London,
- 33:01and so we'll end up doing the Dragnet episode fairly shortly. All Right,
- 33:07Well, that will do it for today. We'll be back tomorrow with the
- 33:12Adventures of Philip Marlow and join us back here next Tuesday for Pat Novak for
- 33:15Hire. In the meantime, send your comments to Box thirteen a great detectors
- 33:21dot net and follow us on Twitter. Radio Detectives from Boise, Idaho.
