- 0:12Speaker 1: Patriots training Camp.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Well, I do still watch the news.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Practice is over, but the writers of Patriots dot com
- 0:18Speaker 1: have you covered?
- 0:19Speaker 2: What did I miss yesterday?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Now here to review today's practice? The writers of Patriots
- 0:23Speaker 1: dot com.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Well, the Patriots were back at it after a day off,
- 0:28Speaker 3: Day ten of training camp, back in shells here at
- 0:32Speaker 3: sunny and warm Jillette Stadium. Evan Lazar, Mike do So,
- 0:37Speaker 3: Paul Perlo with you. Kind of an interesting day. I
- 0:41Speaker 3: thought it was a little bit choppy coming off the
- 0:44Speaker 3: day off.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I thought the.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Execution was a little little sloppy overall.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Just I'll let you guys open it up with first impressions.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought a little bit more of a I
- 0:54Speaker 4: don't want to say, a step back. I think the
- 0:55Speaker 4: offense was a little definitely uneven today, and especially the
- 0:58Speaker 4: two's David was missing from practice, and I think that
- 1:01Speaker 4: that's just that's the big theme for me right now
- 1:04Speaker 4: is just the offensive line and the attrition and how
- 1:06Speaker 4: much can you really kill the offense at this point
- 1:08Speaker 4: with what they're dealing with upfront. But you know that said, couple,
- 1:11Speaker 4: you know, middle of the field, eleven sessions, the red zone,
- 1:14Speaker 4: long red zone session. Not a lot of production today
- 1:17Speaker 4: from the offense and not a lot of like, you know,
- 1:19Speaker 4: really well executed passing plays.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 5: I figured out why Matthew Judon hasn't been practicing. It's
- 1:23Speaker 5: because he recx practice when he does practice. So he
- 1:27Speaker 5: was out there again today full tilt after reworking his
- 1:30Speaker 5: contract that got announced on Friday night, and I had
- 1:33Speaker 5: him down for three sacks and maybe like ten snaps
- 1:36Speaker 5: that he was out there, and a lot of them
- 1:38Speaker 5: came off the right side. I ran a one t
- 1:41Speaker 5: and stunt one straight up pass rush on Connor McDermott
- 1:44Speaker 5: right around him. So I'm with you on the offensive line.
- 1:46Speaker 5: I wanted to be a little bit positive out of
- 1:48Speaker 5: the gate and just say the red sleeves are back
- 1:50Speaker 5: and they look good and it's amazing how he just
- 1:53Speaker 5: stepped right in and it was like he never left
- 1:56Speaker 5: for the defense. And I think that that's what you
- 1:58Speaker 5: wanted to see, was this defense what it was going
- 2:01Speaker 5: to look like and how the pieces were going to
- 2:03Speaker 5: fit together, And we got a little bit of that today.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree with you too, on the offensive line,
- 2:06Speaker 3: you know, with you know strange. Now Andrew's out and
- 2:10Speaker 3: we haven't seen a WINU yet, so the whole three start,
- 2:13Speaker 3: you know, projected starters on the inside are out. But
- 2:15Speaker 3: to Evan's point, it was the edges that you know,
- 2:18Speaker 3: it seemed to be the issue with Jude On, but
- 2:20Speaker 3: I thought that really kind of took away mac Jones
- 2:24Speaker 3: and Bailey z appy. I didn't think they either one
- 2:26Speaker 3: of them had a lot of really good opportunities to
- 2:28Speaker 3: sit back, get on the back foot in the pocket
- 2:30Speaker 3: and let one rip. They did a few, and there
- 2:32Speaker 3: was some There was some good balls occasionally, but they
- 2:35Speaker 3: were few and far between. I did think the defense
- 2:39Speaker 3: had a strong date. I thought Gonzales was much more
- 2:41Speaker 3: active today than what we've seen I thought the last
- 2:44Speaker 3: couple of days, and I was kind of worried, like
- 2:46Speaker 3: is he kind of slipping down? You know, I know
- 2:48Speaker 3: it's early, but sometimes you're getting camp and it's it's tough,
- 2:51Speaker 3: it's a grind.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But he was.
- 2:52Speaker 3: He was really around the ball today. The interception was
- 2:56Speaker 3: like a ridiculous athletic play. I mean, now you could
- 2:59Speaker 3: look that two ways. Great play by Gonzales, no matter
- 3:02Speaker 3: how you look at it, but the other the other one.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And this is something I've been noticing a lot more
- 3:07Speaker 3: of just receivers in the same spot. I see it
- 3:09Speaker 3: more and more. I saw it several times today and
- 3:13Speaker 3: one of our guys, Taekwon Thowton, seems to be involved
- 3:15Speaker 3: with a lot of those those times.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I think another just point out athletic play Mike Kasiki,
- 3:20Speaker 4: nice one handed catch along the along the sidelines Gabil
- 3:22Speaker 4: Peppers was funny after practice saying, hey, we got to
- 3:24Speaker 4: go to the table.
- 3:24Speaker 2: We'll see if he came down with it.
- 3:26Speaker 4: But but a real nice athletic play from Kasiki. I
- 3:28Speaker 4: thought had a couple you know, starting to maybe I
- 3:30Speaker 4: don't want to say overstated, probably best practice.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, start to.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Stand out a little bit, and you know, starting to
- 3:35Speaker 4: show some of that, you know, just kind of unique
- 3:37Speaker 4: body type athleticism that he has. So I think that's
- 3:40Speaker 4: you know, good sign that that he's starting to show
- 3:41Speaker 4: a little bit too.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Yeah. On the interception for Gonzalez, it was Kaishan Boudi
- 3:45Speaker 5: and to Mario Douglas in the same area, two rookie receivers.
- 3:49Speaker 5: You think maybe there was a little bit of a
- 3:51Speaker 5: miscommunication or they ended up too close to each other.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Like Paul was saying, it looked like it was a
- 3:56Speaker 5: post wheel, and you would just sort of like to
- 3:57Speaker 5: see Douglas clear it out a little bit more, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 5: and that up the field and get out of the
- 4:01Speaker 5: picture a little bit faster than he did. But I
- 4:04Speaker 5: think what's interesting about Gonzales is that we've seen him
- 4:07Speaker 5: make some more plays on the ball, whereas last week
- 4:10Speaker 5: it felt like he just was a little bit of
- 4:12Speaker 5: a tick slow at the anticipation when the ball was
- 4:14Speaker 5: coming his direction and he was around the area. It
- 4:17Speaker 5: wasn't like he was getting burned, but he wasn't making
- 4:20Speaker 5: plays on the football. Today he started making some plays
- 4:22Speaker 5: on the ball. But one positive I did think from
- 4:24Speaker 5: the offense, that forty yard pass from Mac Jones to
- 4:27Speaker 5: DeVante Parker was the highlight of the day.
- 4:29Speaker 2: And boy, it's what he does. Yes, that's what he do. Yeah.
- 4:33Speaker 5: But I thought it was progress because you know, last
- 4:35Speaker 5: week we saw Mac Jones Devonte Parker split two safeties
- 4:39Speaker 5: a corner in a safety excuse me, on a deep
- 4:41Speaker 5: post and Mac tried to lead him into the back
- 4:43Speaker 5: of the end zone and Parker's just not fast enough
- 4:46Speaker 5: to catch up to the football. So this time he
- 4:48Speaker 5: just put it on a silver platter for him over
- 4:50Speaker 5: Jack Jones and allowed Devonte Parker to go up and
- 4:53Speaker 5: climb the ladder and pluck the ball out of the air.
- 4:55Speaker 5: That's how he's going to win. He had Jack Jones
- 4:57Speaker 5: on his back throwing him or leading him into the
- 5:00Speaker 5: end zone. That causes him to have to catch up
- 5:02Speaker 5: to the football instead of just high pointing it and
- 5:04Speaker 5: doing what he does best. So I like that little
- 5:06Speaker 5: bit of progress with the chemistry that he's now throwing
- 5:09Speaker 5: it to a spot for DeVante Parker versus trying to
- 5:12Speaker 5: lead him into the end zone.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I would agree that was clearly the play of the day,
- 5:15Speaker 3: and it was kind of like a two minute drill
- 5:17Speaker 3: and I think it was one of those, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 3: sort of desperation kind of plays, but the execution was
- 5:22Speaker 3: really good.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 5: You know, there was like thirteen seconds left on the clock. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 5: Mac had just spiked it to stop the clock. Maybe
- 5:29Speaker 5: they were down four, Maybe that was the situation.
- 5:32Speaker 3: And you know, I think you're right, and I think
- 5:35Speaker 3: it may not have had to be in the end zone.
- 5:37Speaker 3: That's well, like a lot of times those plays like, well,
- 5:39Speaker 3: you know, they just kind of throw it up there
- 5:41Speaker 3: and one day they're supposed to catch it.
- 5:43Speaker 2: One day the defense is supposed to knock it down.
- 5:44Speaker 3: But this play I thought actually was pretty close to normal,
- 5:48Speaker 3: like a real play. And you know, again, depending on
- 5:52Speaker 3: which side you're you're hoping looks good, it's good play
- 5:55Speaker 3: for the offense, not such a good play for Jack Jones,
- 5:57Speaker 3: but yeah, it was. It was definitely the play of
- 5:59Speaker 3: the day. Mike, you have you don't have to raise
- 6:01Speaker 3: your hand, Mike, you can just make open.
- 6:03Speaker 4: And I I just thought I wanted to make sure
- 6:04Speaker 4: we mentioned Jonathan Jones was missing from practice.
- 6:07Speaker 3: So Ti Montgomery, Matthew Slater, Jonathan Jones, David Andrews cole
- 6:10Speaker 3: strange with a five that we're not seeing interesting with
- 6:14Speaker 3: Jones and Slater did not dress for the in stadium
- 6:17Speaker 3: practice Friday night. You wonder if Bill's just sort of
- 6:20Speaker 3: given those guys an extended veteran kind of rest. I
- 6:23Speaker 3: don't know or or I'm not aware of anything that
- 6:26Speaker 3: Jonathan Jones or Slater is dealing with, but you know, well,
- 6:30Speaker 3: we'll keep an eye on it. The next two days
- 6:32Speaker 3: was kind.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Of a theme.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Guys gets here and there, we're getting into the into
- 6:36Speaker 5: the real, the real dreads of training camp. Now I
- 6:39Speaker 5: don't like that other phrase, so I'm trying to think
- 6:40Speaker 5: of a different phrase, the dog days. You don't like dogs. Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 5: that's why I don't like dog days. That's doors because
- 6:46Speaker 5: it makes you half dogs. No, I just I don't know.
- 6:49Speaker 5: I feel like there's a negative contation.
- 6:51Speaker 3: One other thing that I that I noticed, and I
- 6:52Speaker 3: don't have anything, Well, two things I should say. The
- 6:55Speaker 3: defense at one point I think was guilty of maybe
- 6:58Speaker 3: not being on the same page substitution and wise Bill
- 7:01Speaker 3: sent the entire defense for a lap, So that was,
- 7:06Speaker 3: you know, sort of noteworthy. But the other thing, and
- 7:08Speaker 3: I don't know have any idea what it means or
- 7:09Speaker 3: what they were talking about. But Bill Belichick and Bill
- 7:12Speaker 3: O'Brien spent I saw that about ten minutes after practice,
- 7:16Speaker 3: maybe more, just the two of them talking at length.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So I don't know. Maybe it's like, you know, you
- 7:22Speaker 2: call that an offense.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I do think that's how the conversation goes.
- 7:28Speaker 5: I'm not trying we have no idea what was no
- 7:30Speaker 5: So that's why I'm not trying to speculate. But you
- 7:34Speaker 5: mentioned at the beginning that there was a little bit
- 7:38Speaker 5: more of receivers on top of each other and spacing
- 7:41Speaker 5: issues today and timing issues today. And you do wonder
- 7:44Speaker 5: if he said to hey, they were talking about, Hey,
- 7:47Speaker 5: let's not let these bad habits become regular habits. Right
- 7:51Speaker 5: Like we saw a little bit of this today. We
- 7:53Speaker 5: had were really on a good upward trajectory last week,
- 7:56Speaker 5: you know, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, I looked like strong practices
- 8:00Speaker 5: or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, I should say, let's not let
- 8:03Speaker 5: this creep in where all of a sudden, we're letting
- 8:05Speaker 5: this stuff go because we got a couple good days
- 8:07Speaker 5: of practice.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Mike anything else, No, I'm good. I think I just
- 8:11Speaker 2: clocked in.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Marcus Jones was out there, you know, getting reps again
- 8:13Speaker 4: on the outside kind of for Jonathan Jones.
- 8:15Speaker 2: So this is kind of a rotation that they're doing.
- 8:17Speaker 4: No Jack Jones really out there, so it's between him
- 8:19Speaker 4: Miles Bryant. They're kind of just experimenting with those two guys.
- 8:22Speaker 4: But hopefully Jonathan Jones is back soon.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I think he's imporn.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Piece way down to two more training camp podcasts that
- 8:29Speaker 3: we have Monday Tuesday, the final two days that the
- 8:32Speaker 3: public will be allowed into practice.
- 8:35Speaker 2: So it's like basically two weeks and.
- 8:38Speaker 3: That's all she wrote. So we will be back tomorrow
- 8:40Speaker 3: with Day eleven.
