Transcript
- 0:00Good morning!
- 0:00This is 787daily, your Puerto Rico briefing for Sunday, October 18.
- 0:04Grab your coffee, because we've got a full plate.
- 0:07Let's start with a law that says nobody gets left behind by a screen.
- 0:11The governor has signed a measure protecting older adults from digital exclusion.
- 0:14It guarantees elderly individuals equal access to services and technologies.
- 0:17So whether it's an app, a website or a new way of doing an old task, the idea is that age shouldn't lock anyone out.
- 0:24The governor also vetoed four other measures along the way.
- 0:27Now, a heavier story, and one that deserves care.
- 0:29A mother in Jayuya is demanding answers after her four-year-old son died in a Puerto Rico Department of the Family foster home in Arecibo.
- 0:36She wants to know what happened to her child.
- 0:38Our thoughts are with her and her family, and we'll bring you more as answers emerge.
- 0:43On to the Senate, where lawmakers have passed a bill creating a new Planning and Permits Code.
- 0:48The measure aims to simplify administrative procedures, and to strengthen oversight and compliance mechanisms.
- 0:52Anyone who has ever waited on a permit knows why that matters.
- 0:55Passing the Senate is one step, so keep an eye on where it goes from here.
- 1:00Rules and enforcement are a good bridge to the skies over San Juan.
- 1:03If you fly a drone, listen up.
- 1:05As of October 8, the FBI in San Juan can issue citations to drone operators for violations of drone regulations.
- 1:11So before you launch, know the rules.
- 1:13That camera in the sky now comes with a bit more accountability.
- 1:16Another federal agency has something for you, and this one is a great excuse for a cleanup.
- 1:21On October 24, the US DEA will collect expired medications at 30 sites across Puerto Rico.
- 1:26Think of that dusty corner of the medicine cabinet.
- 1:28A week from Saturday, you can clear it out and hand those old pills to the pros.
- 1:33Last, let's check on the water, because every Sunday we look at how Carraízo did this past week.
- 1:38From October 11 through the seventeenth, the reservoir slipped from 40.96 meters to 40.85.
- 1:44That's a drop of 11 centimeters over six days.
- 1:46The good news: it's still sitting in the Safe band.
- 1:49And nearby, 3.35 inches of rain fell in the final week.
- 1:53Not a bad cushion at all.
- 1:55That's your Sunday rundown!
- 1:56You can read every story in full at 787daily.com.

- 2:05And before you go, your Puerto Rico fun fact for today: San Cristóbal, in Old San Juan, is the largest Spanish fort ever built in the Americas.
