- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: balanced Life Chiropractic. I'm here with doctor Harley and I
- 0:04Speaker 1: get to say some fun words today, don't I.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going a little more science, doctor neuroplasticity?
- 0:10Speaker 3: Did they say right? Can I see? I said it
- 0:13Speaker 3: nine hundred times in my head. First I figured I'd
- 0:15Speaker 3: get it wrong, but I got it right.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Yay.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I pronounced things a little weird sometimes.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's okay.
- 0:21Speaker 3: So what the heck is neuroplasticity?
- 0:23Speaker 2: And you're probably not the only one asking that question, yeah.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Because I'm sure there's probably somebody on I'm pretty sure
- 0:26Speaker 1: John said it wrong because that doesn't sound right.
- 0:28Speaker 2: But what is that? So when we talk about nervous system,
- 0:31Speaker 2: and we've talked a lot about how when we adjust
- 0:33Speaker 2: someone it's affecting their nervous system. So there's a lot
- 0:36Speaker 2: of research and the researcher in particular is doctor Heidi Havoc.
- 0:39Speaker 2: She's a New Zealander. Okay, so that's why I just
- 0:42Speaker 2: got made a little bit of a funny last name.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I like it, doctor Heidi Havock.
- 0:45Speaker 2: She's really big on the neural lens with chiropractic and
- 0:48Speaker 2: looking at what is the adjustment actually doing. And that's
- 0:52Speaker 2: where we talk about neuroplasticity. So it's how your brain
- 0:56Speaker 2: is able to adapt to life and stressors through our
- 1:00Speaker 2: nervous system. So plasticity you kind of think flexibility, you know,
- 1:03Speaker 2: being able to go with the flow kind of thing. Yeah,
- 1:07Speaker 2: maybe I'm a little bit simpler. So think of all
- 1:09Speaker 2: the things you have going on in your day to day.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You know, we've talked about stress a lot, how that
- 1:14Speaker 2: affects things, and you know, everything just kind of bogs
- 1:17Speaker 2: down our system. Well, that makes it a lot harder
- 1:19Speaker 2: for our brain and nervous system to go with the flow,
- 1:22Speaker 2: and that neuroplasticity kind of takes a hit and it's
- 1:24Speaker 2: not working as easily or adjusting or overcoming those obstacles
- 1:30Speaker 2: as easily. So when we are adjusting the spine, we've
- 1:34Speaker 2: kind of talked about this with like the electrician and
- 1:36Speaker 2: the circuit boards and all those kinds of things, Right,
- 1:39Speaker 2: we're kind of readjusting or fixing that fuse that is broken.
- 1:43Speaker 2: That's kind of the same thing. That's what we're doing
- 1:45Speaker 2: with the adjustments, is we're fixing those parts that aren't
- 1:48Speaker 2: communicating with your brain. So restoring that neuroplasticity and.
- 1:53Speaker 1: That helps this communicate with this I'm pointing that doesn't
- 1:57Speaker 1: really translate to the radio. So it helps your brain
- 1:59Speaker 1: connect with like your foot and your leg and your
- 2:01Speaker 1: back and all the different parts of your body. It's
- 2:03Speaker 1: that connection between them, and that's what neuroplasticity is kind
- 2:06Speaker 1: of doing, right.
- 2:07Speaker 2: You know, the one we're trying to correct, that neuroplasticity
- 2:10Speaker 2: between the brain and the body. One of the studies
- 2:12Speaker 2: that she had focused on was stroke patients. And I know,
- 2:16Speaker 2: people like, oh, strokes, chiropractors. What's going It's not chiropractors
- 2:20Speaker 2: causing the strokes. It's a chiropractor seeing a patient after
- 2:23Speaker 2: a stroke so they've had one, and people like, oh,
- 2:25Speaker 2: you should never go to chiropractor ever again, Well, actually,
- 2:28Speaker 2: what they're seeing is restoring of bodily function, mental function, communication,
- 2:34Speaker 2: motor mobility, muscle movement. Seeing how that can change with
- 2:38Speaker 2: a chiropractic adjustment very nice. And with this study they
- 2:41Speaker 2: saw a huge improvement with these stroke patients.
- 2:44Speaker 3: In their neuroplasticity, right, because.
- 2:46Speaker 2: That's connect the brain back to those muscles in different
- 2:50Speaker 2: areas that we lose with having a stroke.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Very nice.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Well, if somebody listening is having issues, whether it's with
- 2:56Speaker 1: neuroplasticity or something completely different, to see away, it sounds
- 3:00Speaker 1: I can say it now, what is the best way
- 3:02Speaker 1: for them to connect with you here at Malence Life Chiropractic,
- 3:04Speaker 1: the neuroplasticity specialists.
- 3:06Speaker 2: All right, So someone that listened to this, you should
- 3:08Speaker 2: count how many times John has said.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It and let us know. I didn't keep track. It
- 3:14Speaker 3: was a few. But I mean it's a fun word, right.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I just wanted to say it because I learned a
- 3:17Speaker 2: new word today and you sound fancy docs and talk.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it sounds like I know what I'm talking about
- 3:21Speaker 3: it right.
- 3:21Speaker 2: So if someone is wondering maybe a little bit more
- 3:24Speaker 2: about what neuroplasticity is or how chiropractic can help with
- 3:27Speaker 2: all these kind of things we've been talking about.
- 3:29Speaker 3: It's fun to say, so call and ask her about
- 3:31Speaker 3: it today.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Right, Ask me lots of difficult, fun questions so we
- 3:35Speaker 2: can learn more together.
