Transcript
- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for more body parts? Lucas: We've done head, foot, hand, eye, mouth, nose, ear, neck — lots of body parts. Luna: Today we're doing back and shoulder, right? Lucas: Exactly. Back is ጀርባ. Luna: ጀርባ. Lucas: Good. Shoulder is ትከሻ. Luna: ትከሻ. That one's a bit tricky. Lucas: Say it slowly: ትከሻ. Luna: ትከሻ. Lucas: Much better. Now let's use them. 'My back hurts' — ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Luna: ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Lucas: Perfect. 'My shoulder hurts' — ትከሻዬ ያመታል. Luna: ትከሻዬ ያመታል. Lucas: You said that really well. Luna: Thanks. So if I want to ask someone 'Does your back hurt?' I'd say ጀርባህ ያመታል? Lucas: Exactly. To a male, yes. And the answer could be: አዎ ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Luna: አዎ ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Lucas: Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're at work and your colleague asks: ጀርባህ ያመታል? Luna: And I say: አዎ ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Then I add: ትከሻዬም ያመታል. Lucas: Oh, 'my shoulder also hurts' — good addition. So 'also' is ደግሞ, but you used እም, which is another way. Luna: Yeah, I remember from earlier. So now I can complain in Amharic! Lucas: You sure can. Let's review. Back? Luna: ጀርባ. Lucas: Shoulder? Luna: ትከሻ. Lucas: My back hurts? Luna: ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Lucas: My shoulder hurts? Luna: ትከሻዬ ያመታል. Lucas: Does your back hurt? Luna: ጀርባህ ያመታል? Lucas: Yes, my back hurts. Luna: አዎ ጀርባዬ ያመታል. Lucas: Great job today, Luna. Keep practicing these and you'll be able to talk about any ache or pain. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to Fexingo for making this possible. Lucas: See you next time for more Amharic. Practice these till we chat again!
