  SPEAKER_00: When we talk about your six, that refers to the six people who will carry your casket at your funeral.

  SPEAKER_00: Well, it's kind of a morbid thought, isn't it?

  SPEAKER_00: But it's important because it reminds us that we're all going to die someday.

  SPEAKER_00: We all have an expiration date on our lives.

  SPEAKER_00: And I want you to think about the six people in your life who would indeed carry your casket.

  SPEAKER_00: How often do you speak to those friends?

  SPEAKER_00: And how close would you say that those friends are to you?

  SPEAKER_00: If you have a hard time answering those questions, maybe it's worth reconsidering how much time and energy that you're investing or not investing into those friendships.

  SPEAKER_00: We're all busy with writing and other creative pursuits and commitments.

  SPEAKER_00: But writing and creativity and work are not the only aspects of your life.

  SPEAKER_00: You have family, you have friends, you have your community, health, and other kinds of important commitments.

  SPEAKER_00: And writing is only one part of the bigger picture.

  SPEAKER_00: So don't neglect your most important friendships and relationships to pursue your art or to build your platform.

  SPEAKER_00: Fans and friends and readers can be really fickle.

  SPEAKER_00: They're only going to stick around as long as you give them something of value.

  SPEAKER_00: But on the other hand, friendships are forever.

  SPEAKER_00: Your friends are the people who stick with you through thick and thin.

  SPEAKER_00: They stick with you through the times when you have a lot of podcast downloads or when you have none or even when you quit or move on to some other kind of pursuit.

  SPEAKER_00: They stick with you through great book sales and great book launches and lots of success, but also in the times when you put something out there and nobody pays attention or you're trying to figure things out or you're just going through a discouragement kind of a spell.

  SPEAKER_00: Those are what friends do in your life.

  SPEAKER_00: So make sure you're investing time in those relationships and not spending all your time and energy on your writing.
