- 1:01Speaker 3: in the building.
- 1:01Speaker 4: What's up, Nelly Man?
- 1:02Speaker 1: How you doing?
- 1:03Speaker 4: I'm good, brother, I mean, I gotta tell you bro.
- 1:05Speaker 3: First of all, Country Grammar was a very important album
- 1:08Speaker 3: in my life.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Thog, thank you congratulations.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I know it's been twenty five years for a couple
- 1:13Speaker 3: of years were twenty seven years now.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Well, the song actually came out in in ninety nine,
- 1:20Speaker 2: but the album.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Came out thousand. Album the album Right came out in
- 1:24Speaker 1: two thousand.
- 1:24Speaker 3: But we are okay because I saw you it redropped
- 1:28Speaker 3: a couple of years ago.
- 1:30Speaker 4: But so the song yeah.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And We're Crazy, the song nationally is dropped in ninety nine,
- 1:36Speaker 2: but the song locally was originally did in like ninety eight,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and then I re recorded it once we got the
- 1:44Speaker 2: deal with Universal Right, and then we put that out
- 1:46Speaker 2: in ninety nine, and then the album was in two thousand.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So Country Gramma the song actually been out for a minute, yo.
- 1:52Speaker 3: So the best part of the iHeart Awards for me
- 1:55Speaker 3: yesterday was seeing the Saint.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Lunatics Whatch You Gonna Stay?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Man?
- 2:00Speaker 3: Which is so fire because Free Cities was by ship
- 2:05Speaker 3: Oh man, such a slept On album too.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Thank you brother, thank you. Yeah. Man, those are my brothers,
- 2:10Speaker 1: you know.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And it's crazy because me and City I always the
- 2:16Speaker 2: City is my little brothers. Say that, but that's why
- 2:18Speaker 2: I used to wear a band aid for obviously. But
- 2:21Speaker 2: Keywan and Murphy Lee or real brothers biologically you should
- 2:27Speaker 2: say that. And I've been knowing Murph and Keywan since
- 2:30Speaker 2: Murf was like eight years old and Keiwan was like
- 2:34Speaker 2: eleven twelve. So we grew up literally together, you know
- 2:39Speaker 2: what I mean, doing other shit, and we just didn't
- 2:42Speaker 2: know that music was going to be, you know, where we.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Would make our impact on the world.
- 2:50Speaker 2: But man, when you got that family base, yeah, you
- 2:54Speaker 2: go through shit, right.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I about to say it was good to see because
- 2:56Speaker 3: I know last year there was like, you know whatever,
- 2:58Speaker 3: stories around, so it was good to see.
- 3:00Speaker 1: When I saw that, I was like, hell yeah yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But it's I think, you know, it's it's sometimes confusion
- 3:06Speaker 2: because when you're going about things and you're not paying
- 3:12Speaker 2: attention to certain things, you have no idea what's happening,
- 3:16Speaker 2: you know, But then as you get older, you're assuming
- 3:21Speaker 2: what happened. But then when you find out, oh, man,
- 3:23Speaker 2: that wasn't the case. Then It's easy. We just needed
- 3:26Speaker 2: to have a conversation to be.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Like, bro, lack of communication.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Bro, that's not what happened. This is actually how that went.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And at the time, you know, Mirph was super young.
- 3:38Speaker 2: He had just graduated from high school basically, or probably
- 3:40Speaker 2: about a year and.
- 3:41Speaker 4: A half removed.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And yeah, man, I mean, you know, things happened so
- 3:46Speaker 2: fast as well. I just we just needed to have
- 3:49Speaker 2: a conversation to and everything needed to be explained. But
- 3:54Speaker 2: at the end of the day, I love for one
- 3:56Speaker 2: another will never subside over business.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I mean well always it would always.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, were you and your wife's initial like like reuniting?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Was it at the versus?
- 4:12Speaker 2: This is the thing when I went to Versus, I
- 4:15Speaker 2: actually I had somebody with me right when I went
- 4:18Speaker 2: to when I what I'm.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Saying, but you guys shared the stage, and you know,
- 4:21Speaker 3: the internet was like oh ship at the same time I.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Was, I didn't want it tints.
- 4:26Speaker 2: And when I walked in, her mother has saw me,
- 4:30Speaker 2: and I knew that Mom was gonna go back and
- 4:33Speaker 2: let her know that I was in the building. So
- 4:36Speaker 2: we was here to celebrate with these brothers two of
- 4:40Speaker 2: my cats, yep Joe and joh And to celebrate their music.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So I didn't I didn't want a tints and we
- 4:46Speaker 2: didn't even talk. I just went over, you know, we
- 4:49Speaker 2: got the hug, rate, the eyes, and boom and we
- 4:52Speaker 2: didn't talk for probably another almost eight to nine months
- 4:57Speaker 2: to a year. We didn't have a conversation. That was
- 4:59Speaker 2: that And you know, but everything happens for a reason.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I think that's awesome. I think it's so dope. And
- 5:05Speaker 3: by the way, kudos to you guys figuring out how
- 5:08Speaker 3: to hide a wedding. How hard was that for that
- 5:11Speaker 3: not to get out until after it happened.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Well, once I found out that, once we found out
- 5:18Speaker 2: that she was pregnant, it was just like, yeah, I
- 5:21Speaker 2: didn't want this to be.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Not a I don't want to say like a child.
- 5:26Speaker 4: We exactly Well, you guys are probably already planning, you know.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Well, we hadn't talked about it. We hadn't talked about
- 5:32Speaker 2: any of that yet. I hadn't, you know, But I
- 5:34Speaker 2: was like, yo, you know what, let's just knock this
- 5:37Speaker 2: out because we're going to be doing so much and
- 5:41Speaker 2: everything's moving so fast, and I didn't want to yeah,
- 5:45Speaker 2: I didn't want her to be, you know, a baby mama.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I like, because we already knew where we were in life.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And you know, if we're back like this, this must
- 5:57Speaker 2: be what this supposed to be.
- 5:59Speaker 4: You know, I love it to be cares like.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Sometimes people's timing is off, whether it's like points in
- 6:03Speaker 3: your life, doesn't mean it's the wrong person, but maybe
- 6:06Speaker 3: it's the wrong timing exactly. So you go through whatever
- 6:09Speaker 3: you go through, whatever she goes through. You guys evolved,
- 6:11Speaker 3: but you guys know each other yo, and love.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Each other well.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Any relationship, man, I based any relationship on does this
- 6:18Speaker 2: person bring more good to your life than bad? Any relationship.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It could be your relationship with your parents, your kids, your.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Homie, anything.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Does this person bring more good to your life than bad?
- 6:29Speaker 2: And if they do, then great, you know what I mean.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And then but if they don't, then you know that
- 6:35Speaker 2: you might need to remove this person from being able
- 6:38Speaker 2: to get some of your time.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And that's what I think for me and her.
- 6:42Speaker 2: After we got a chance to look and was like, Yo,
- 6:45Speaker 2: a lot of the shit that we was bitching about
- 6:47Speaker 2: we cool.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, I love it, man.
- 6:50Speaker 2: We were way more happier than we thought being pissed off.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Was how cool? Because I know it was a surprised
- 6:56Speaker 3: that she introduced you. She had a dope speech for you.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Man, I didn't know she was doing that. I had
- 7:02Speaker 1: no idea.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I thought she was going to the seat because we
- 7:04Speaker 2: had just left the dressing room, and you know, she
- 7:06Speaker 2: was like, go killing bag, look okay, boom boom. She
- 7:09Speaker 2: was like, they're going to their seat. And then I'm
- 7:11Speaker 2: backstage and I got you know.
- 7:12Speaker 1: My ins and you hear her ins and I'm like,
- 7:16Speaker 1: I know that voice.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And then I looked to the screen, I'm like, wow, wow,
- 7:20Speaker 2: that got be like yeah, but it was dope, man,
- 7:23Speaker 2: it was dope.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my that's my baby. Man, she did a thing.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I want to go back. You're one of the greatest
- 7:30Speaker 3: selling hip hop artists of all time. I feel like
- 7:33Speaker 3: you truly evolved the genre in a way that is
- 7:38Speaker 3: still her today. I don't think we get future. I
- 7:42Speaker 3: don't think we get some of these melodic artists without you.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I mean, damn you. You influenced fifty in my opinion,
- 7:48Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like, well.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I think we all influence each other, right, So without
- 7:54Speaker 2: Celo without good soulful green, there's no there might not
- 7:59Speaker 2: be no Lelly without.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Even both thugs back in the day arrested development. You
- 8:05Speaker 1: know what I'm saying.
- 8:06Speaker 2: And you get a lot of you know a lot
- 8:07Speaker 2: of the people that are you know, melodic, and it's
- 8:10Speaker 2: about influence, because we all influence each other. So I'm
- 8:14Speaker 2: just happy that I can pass on inspiration and like
- 8:17Speaker 2: you're saying, make it so that it's it's it's not
- 8:21Speaker 2: hearing something.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Irregular to be on the radio.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And then you got brothers like t Pain and Acon
- 8:27Speaker 2: that just take that ship to a whole nother level, man,
- 8:31Speaker 2: because t Pain is.
- 8:32Speaker 1: The goat, Like he's a goat man. He's one of
- 8:36Speaker 1: the most alien level talented people. Man. People don't realize
- 8:40Speaker 1: that guy.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Damn that his mental his knowledge of music, the way
- 8:49Speaker 2: he can put ship together. Like you know, I grew
- 8:52Speaker 2: up in music my whole life. I'm not even the
- 8:54Speaker 2: first one in my family to even do a record.
- 8:56Speaker 2: My uncle Rudy rest in Peace, did an album and
- 9:00Speaker 2: nineteen eighty eight, and he's the one who taught me about,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you know, just music in general, and how to count balls,
- 9:06Speaker 2: how to do certain things and I was in band.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I did the drum line thing. Yeah, I played the
- 9:11Speaker 2: trumpet for a little bit and all of that. Even
- 9:14Speaker 2: when it was church, I was in the choir, the
- 9:16Speaker 2: kids choir. So music has always been around me. So
- 9:20Speaker 2: when you see somebody like pain and the things he's
- 9:23Speaker 2: able to capture, man, he's incredible.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Do you feel like because when it comes to prolific runs,
- 9:31Speaker 3: I think of your run from Country Grammar to Sweatsuit.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I mean the fact you're able to drop two albums
- 9:37Speaker 3: on the same day and they each went one and
- 9:39Speaker 3: two on the chart Nellyville in between that it's one
- 9:44Speaker 3: of the greatest runs in history.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Do you feel like you get your flowers?
- 9:49Speaker 3: When we talk about the goat conversation, I don't trop
- 9:52Speaker 3: off of it like that.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah I don't.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I literally don't like I talked shit with you if
- 9:57Speaker 2: you want talk, But because somebody else, I don't worry
- 10:01Speaker 2: about it. I always say, you know, long as they
- 10:04Speaker 2: they can put my flowers on my grad you know
- 10:06Speaker 2: what I'm saying, And that's cool with me because my
- 10:09Speaker 2: job is first is the fathers, the husband is the
- 10:14Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying is protecting and providing and
- 10:17Speaker 2: setting changing the course of what my family was doing
- 10:21Speaker 2: because I was blessed to be in that position.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So that's what I care about.
- 10:25Speaker 4: First.
- 10:26Speaker 2: If it comes, it comes, and I feel like a
- 10:29Speaker 2: lot of times it may not be the right time.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Like we talked about timing, Everything is timing, you know
- 10:34Speaker 2: what I mean. Like sometimes you got to look back
- 10:37Speaker 2: to understand what somebody like a Terrell Owens did or
- 10:44Speaker 2: meant to the league, or what a Randy Moss meant
- 10:46Speaker 2: to the league, because you know, when they're doing it,
- 10:50Speaker 2: it could be little things that make you overlook them
- 10:52Speaker 2: for some reason. But then when you think about the
- 10:54Speaker 2: game and you go back and you be like, damn,
- 10:57Speaker 2: Doe was beasted, you know what I'm saying. So if
- 11:00Speaker 2: that happens like that, then that's that's cool. And from
- 11:04Speaker 2: where I'm from, we used to getting over look, like
- 11:08Speaker 2: from Saint Louis.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm somewhere like Saint Louis.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean for people you cut that light off
- 11:13Speaker 3: for quick head, it keeps blinking. That's fine, speaking of
- 11:18Speaker 3: Saint Louis. Saint Louis recently obviously, it's it's it's been
- 11:22Speaker 3: in the neuce for the wrong reasons. It's one of
- 11:23Speaker 3: the most dangerous places in America, if not the most
- 11:25Speaker 3: dangerous place in America.
- 11:28Speaker 1: You know, country Grammar. While it was Ride with Me
- 11:31Speaker 1: and a lot of hits on there, it was also
- 11:33Speaker 1: a lot of street ship on there. Still the show
- 11:35Speaker 1: was on there.
- 11:36Speaker 3: You know, what point in time did you realize, because
- 11:40Speaker 3: I feel like you had a real conscientious effort to
- 11:43Speaker 3: be like, you know what, I'm I don't want to
- 11:46Speaker 3: limit myself in this box. You had to, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 3: I mean the come up was quick, but I feel
- 11:53Speaker 3: like you have like a real conscientious effort to try
- 11:56Speaker 3: to kind of like make sure you weren't just stuck
- 11:58Speaker 3: in a box there that immediately or was it like, oh,
- 12:02Speaker 3: we got something here and then some of the pop
- 12:04Speaker 3: looks started coming in and.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Period like, but I didn't understand the whole thing of pop.
- 12:10Speaker 2: It wasn't like I was trying to go pop. I
- 12:11Speaker 2: just did the records, and you know that's what That's
- 12:14Speaker 2: what the label does. That's their expertise of saying, Yo,
- 12:17Speaker 2: this can play her, this can work her, and this
- 12:19Speaker 2: can work there. It's not like I'm going into the
- 12:21Speaker 2: studio make a pop head. I don't know how to
- 12:24Speaker 2: fucking do that.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I don't know. You know what I'm saying.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I just go in there and if I hear a beat,
- 12:28Speaker 2: I like, I'm gonna do what I can do on
- 12:30Speaker 2: that beat. Now, I grew up hustling anyway, and you
- 12:33Speaker 2: know when you hustle as you always trying to keep
- 12:35Speaker 2: a door open. You know what I'm saying.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But obviously I've.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Sold drugs, but I've sold every ding. I sold burnout phones,
- 12:45Speaker 2: I sold T shirts. I said, you know, could whatever
- 12:48Speaker 2: it's in demand, That's where I was putting the energy.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And it wasn't no different with this music because I
- 12:53Speaker 2: feel like, yo, if I can get it, hit her,
- 12:55Speaker 2: get it hit her, get it, get hit to her.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Because if you look at all the songs, none of
- 12:59Speaker 2: them sound the like Country Grandma. Don't sound like e
- 13:02Speaker 2: I Yeah, don't sound like batter Up, batter Up, don't
- 13:05Speaker 2: sound like they're all different. Man with Me, don't sound
- 13:07Speaker 2: like Hot in here, Hot Sure, don't sound.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Like Dilemma number one sounds different.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, one, Air Force one, Yep, Pimp Juice, Grills, on
- 13:16Speaker 2: and on and on.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Yeah, justin Dream, all of that ship is different. None
- 13:19Speaker 1: of those songs. Another slept On, Classic bad Boys Too soundtrack.
- 13:24Speaker 1: None of those songs sound alike.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And when you are able to have that type of options,
- 13:31Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, you can always find an outlet.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I feel.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Yeah, have you heard the Playboy Cardi album? He sampled
- 13:38Speaker 3: Ashanti's Only You record? Have you heard the song? No,
- 13:42Speaker 3: I haven't, but I heard that he did. It's it's
- 13:45Speaker 3: crazy because to me, that's one of the best beats,
- 13:47Speaker 3: like ever, like that beat his fucking insane shout to
- 13:49Speaker 3: your girl because that song's crazy.
- 13:50Speaker 4: But yeah, like he did it.
- 13:52Speaker 3: At Rolling Loud And when I tell you like crazy,
- 13:54Speaker 3: the place exploded.
- 13:56Speaker 4: It was it was crazy.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was yeah, man, Yeah, she's you know, I'm
- 14:02Speaker 2: a fan of my wife.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Would you and your wife ever do like a Jay
- 14:06Speaker 3: and Bay type of album?
- 14:09Speaker 2: I think if it organically comes, if like if we're working,
- 14:14Speaker 2: we're doing songs in the studio and we start putting
- 14:18Speaker 2: the pieces together and it comes like that, I think
- 14:22Speaker 2: definitely possibilities.
- 14:24Speaker 1: We do a lot of shows together as well.
- 14:25Speaker 4: For sure.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys are in a lot of shows together anyway,
- 14:27Speaker 3: because like if you're going to book a dope show,
- 14:30Speaker 3: like for guys like me.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I mean it's even we even discussing potential residencies in
- 14:40Speaker 2: Vegas together and things like that. We're trying to you know,
- 14:45Speaker 2: the options are there. We're just trying to make sure
- 14:49Speaker 2: things are what they need to do.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I always wonder this.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I feel like from a fan's perspective, there was always
- 14:55Speaker 3: like a like it was. It was probably made up
- 14:58Speaker 3: by by me and my friends, but I always felt
- 15:01Speaker 3: like this like rivalry between you and Ludacris, because you
- 15:03Speaker 3: guys were very simultaneously like cracking at the same time.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Legend. And then he ended up but he ended up
- 15:10Speaker 1: signing Chingy from your city.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Well yeah, him and but more so Shaka, right, more
- 15:17Speaker 2: so more so Shaka.
- 15:19Speaker 1: But it wasn't a here's the thing. I was happy
- 15:22Speaker 1: for Chingy.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It was other people that was in the in the mix,
- 15:27Speaker 2: that was in.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Your on your side.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Was manipulating the situation because they weren't a part of
- 15:35Speaker 2: what's going on. And because me and Chinky was cool,
- 15:38Speaker 2: Chingy was cool with all of the tics. If you
- 15:40Speaker 2: look at that video, Keywan and Murph is in that video, right,
- 15:44Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. I didn't really have a
- 15:46Speaker 2: problem because I told CHINGI yo, bro, I got to
- 15:50Speaker 2: put out MRF like murf is my is my focus
- 15:53Speaker 2: right now, and I would never knock.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So he went on and ran with that and.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Had a good run.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Man, are you crazy? That's that's that's another one of
- 16:01Speaker 2: my little billows. Man, he's actually going on tour with us.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, dude, Kingi's got records.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Man, Saint Louis got put on the map that
- 16:08Speaker 2: around that time on.
- 16:09Speaker 1: One hundred huge way.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Man, you were just I know you met Sexy Read
- 16:13Speaker 3: last night, but I saw you guys just chop it
- 16:14Speaker 3: up in the other room in there. How cool is
- 16:17Speaker 3: it to see, like, first of all, Saint Louis have
- 16:20Speaker 3: somebody like Sexy Red. That's like on the fourth floort
- 16:22Speaker 3: of pop culture right now. She got a big record
- 16:24Speaker 3: with Bruno Mars. Like now, Saint Louis is known for
- 16:28Speaker 3: because it's Nellyville, but it's Sexyville kind of too right now.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, you know she's she's doing the thing.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Man. You're just so happy for her because she's honesty.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Whether you you know some people you may agree, you
- 16:40Speaker 2: may not agree, but the thing about it is you're
- 16:42Speaker 2: not You will never say she isn't real. She's honest
- 16:48Speaker 2: and coming from where she's come from, and she's she's
- 16:51Speaker 2: feeding a lot of people from where she is, and
- 16:54Speaker 2: she's also appealing to fans all around the world and
- 16:58Speaker 2: people who accept her for who she is. And you
- 17:01Speaker 2: always want that for anybody, man. And like I said, again,
- 17:05Speaker 2: that's our little system. And it's our little system I'm
- 17:07Speaker 2: talking about Saint Louis.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, we hold we we hold.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Littles down and she's she's doing a great job.
- 17:14Speaker 3: What I used to have some Vocal obviously back in
- 17:17Speaker 3: the day, Back in the day, they used to be
- 17:19Speaker 3: at Burlington co Factory going crazy.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:22Speaker 3: When it comes to fashion, dog like the band Aid
- 17:26Speaker 3: vocal clothing.
- 17:27Speaker 1: The backwards jerseys.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I mean you had your fingerprints all throughout, just like
- 17:32Speaker 3: fashion trends for real, Like when you go to these.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Two thousands parties, people be dressing like, yeah.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Well, I was always told, man, you're you haven't made
- 17:40Speaker 2: it until you're a costume, until until somebody's dressing up
- 17:44Speaker 2: like you on Halloween, and you know that's what and
- 17:46Speaker 2: then Nelly costume, that's when you know, Yeah, man, everybody
- 17:50Speaker 2: had their own stamp on it. So I mean, yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 2: I mean, you're thankful, bro, You're grateful and.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You've touched a lot of people. So that's what that's
- 17:58Speaker 1: what being an artist is.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Talk to me about.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Uh, you know, over the years, man, you know, country
- 18:04Speaker 3: music has obviously become more pop culture than ever, but
- 18:07Speaker 3: you were the first person in hip hop to step
- 18:10Speaker 3: into that genre with Tim McGraw over and over obviously
- 18:13Speaker 3: huge record. But now you see guys like, you know,
- 18:15Speaker 3: my brother Jelly Roll, who was a rapper for years
- 18:19Speaker 3: and now he's a superstar. You got you know, little
- 18:22Speaker 3: Dirk Free him, but working with Morgan Wallend, Like, did
- 18:25Speaker 3: you have any foresight or idea? Because that bro? Back
- 18:29Speaker 3: then they told me I was crazy.
- 18:31Speaker 1: My my, my, My.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Label thought I was nuts because you got to understand,
- 18:34Speaker 2: I'm coming off of Nellyville, right coming off of Nellyville
- 18:37Speaker 2: and was a hard album.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You just got got into it with Caress one.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Come on, I'm coming off of Hot in Here, I'm
- 18:43Speaker 2: coming off of Dilemma Air Force ones. And then I
- 18:46Speaker 2: told my label, yeah, I want to do a song
- 18:49Speaker 2: with Tim McGraw, I said, thinking about I got this idea.
- 18:52Speaker 1: They're like, uh, what you what?
- 18:56Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, yeah, I want to do a song
- 18:57Speaker 2: with Tim McGraw, and thankfully enough, the powers that be
- 19:02Speaker 2: entrusted in me because they were like, yo, you know,
- 19:07Speaker 2: I mean, shit, what are we gonna do?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Tell him? No, the guy ain't missed, you know what
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm saying. So, but again, I grew up in Saint Louis.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I was Saint Louis raised me.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I'm a military baby, but I was born in Texas
- 19:20Speaker 2: and the country is just it's just in the blood.
- 19:23Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I dope.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And my uncle, My uncle is somebody who put me
- 19:28Speaker 2: on to songwriting period like Lino Richie and everything and
- 19:32Speaker 2: showed me everything Lina Richie was writing. He was writing
- 19:34Speaker 2: music for country pop, R and B and everything, so
- 19:38Speaker 2: you know, Charlie Pride and Hank Williams, George Straight, all
- 19:42Speaker 2: of that, and I was on all genres of music.
- 19:46Speaker 2: So this was something that I was like, Yo, I
- 19:49Speaker 2: love the stories. I love the stories and the sincerity
- 19:51Speaker 2: that comes from you know, country music. So you know,
- 19:55Speaker 2: it was something that I wanted to try, something I
- 19:57Speaker 2: wanted to do, And thankfully shout out to Tim McGraw,
- 20:00Speaker 2: my big bro.
- 20:00Speaker 1: He he believed.
- 20:01Speaker 2: In me and gave me a shot and we were
- 20:03Speaker 2: able to put together something like you said that came
- 20:06Speaker 2: out in two thousand and four. Yeah, like two thousand
- 20:09Speaker 2: and four and now yeah that was on the Yeah
- 20:13Speaker 2: on Swiss Fuit and people, you know, they thought I
- 20:16Speaker 2: was crazy until it hit and then they was like,
- 20:19Speaker 2: holy shit, Yo.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I remember the line the only only dudes moving units
- 20:23Speaker 3: is the pimp juice in us? Did you and Eminem
- 20:27Speaker 3: have any because at there was a certain point in
- 20:29Speaker 3: time where it's communication you and but you and Eminem
- 20:32Speaker 3: were like the like biggest selling artists in the world,
- 20:37Speaker 3: very different obviously, but like, did you guys ever have
- 20:40Speaker 3: any sort of conversation then?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Or this was the thing.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I misinterpreted something when I was really really new, and
- 20:51Speaker 2: you know, I wanted to apologize to m you know
- 20:54Speaker 2: what I mean. But I was at a time where
- 20:56Speaker 2: you know, I'm coming in, I'm the new guy. Anybody
- 20:58Speaker 2: talking you know from.
- 21:00Speaker 4: What what was it that you missed that you misunderstood?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Well, somehow I misinterpreted that he had something to say about.
- 21:08Speaker 4: What we were doing.
- 21:09Speaker 1: What we were.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Doing, And when I went on MTV, I made some
- 21:13Speaker 2: comments because you know, I'm I'm still fresh from what
- 21:16Speaker 2: from the loop, I'm I'm ready, it's up like where
- 21:19Speaker 2: you at. But that wasn't the case. Man and him
- 21:22Speaker 2: is he's gold Man, you know what I'm saying. And
- 21:25Speaker 2: he's so dope. And when that was going on, I
- 21:29Speaker 2: forgot who. We was in Detroit and we were at
- 21:34Speaker 2: the after party and somebody came and was like, yo, him,
- 21:38Speaker 2: want to come through and holler and I'm like, okay,
- 21:44Speaker 2: you know. And when he came in and he's such
- 21:47Speaker 2: a dope cat, I think he had yo he. I
- 21:50Speaker 2: think he had Hayley with him.
- 21:52Speaker 1: She was young. They probably love your every day, That's
- 21:55Speaker 1: what he was like. He was like, yo, man, my daughter.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was like, I felt like a dick. You know
- 22:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Like I felt it's just like yo,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I felt like a dick.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Man.
- 22:03Speaker 2: And because we were we were Imminem fans, you know
- 22:08Speaker 2: what I'm saying, we was and just miscommunication. Man and
- 22:12Speaker 2: him is, he's he's a dope cat. Man, He's a
- 22:15Speaker 2: He's a dope cat. And I'm glad. I'm glad we
- 22:18Speaker 2: got that out the way because.
- 22:19Speaker 1: You know, I mean, it was like it was a
- 22:21Speaker 1: sales rivalry here.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's fucked up when you people that you
- 22:24Speaker 2: fuck with and that you admire on a on a
- 22:27Speaker 2: level and you know what I'm saying, And it's like, yo,
- 22:29Speaker 2: dude spits, you know. And I appreciate all factors of
- 22:34Speaker 2: hip hop. I appreciate the battle rap because Saint Louis
- 22:37Speaker 2: is huge for battle rap.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Shout out the hit man, holler herb. You know what
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 22:41Speaker 2: A lot of the battle rappers that come about it there,
- 22:44Speaker 2: and you know, we appreciate that side. And we we
- 22:48Speaker 2: got hit makers as well and things like that. So yeah, man, yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I'm glad we squashed that man because m was well,
- 22:56Speaker 2: EM's a cat.
- 22:57Speaker 4: He's one of them guys.

- 24:12Speaker 1: Glad, I'm glad. Job always remained cool for sure.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because even in the beginning, obviously, because we kind
- 24:17Speaker 2: of came out similar.
- 24:19Speaker 1: For sure, one hundred time, so you.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Were a little bitfore in terms of like popping. But
- 24:23Speaker 3: you know, Venni vetty Vicci was like two thousands, so
- 24:25Speaker 3: around the same time. Yeah, yeah, I think I think
- 24:29Speaker 3: he took off with Hollow Yeah.
- 24:30Speaker 4: I think that might have been ninety nine.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because he got a he got a good hollow record.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah with Jay and X. But that's rule three three
- 24:39Speaker 1: six is when things got different.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think, yeah, you know my brother, I
- 24:45Speaker 2: think my brother was hitting that ground out here, that
- 24:47Speaker 2: Graham going and we talk about teasing about that.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You know, he started implementing the melodies. Yo, he hurt
- 24:55Speaker 1: country grammar and he was like melodies a little more.
- 24:58Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I will give it to him, my brother, my cat,
- 25:03Speaker 2: he found it. You know, it's about finding your niche.
- 25:05Speaker 2: And when he found that note that that that that
- 25:08Speaker 2: him because job job makes records. He knows he's got
- 25:12Speaker 2: the implement of making records.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Man. And my cat like he gets down, he gets down. Yeah.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Like I said, dude, I think like when we think
- 25:20Speaker 3: of the Drakes and all these guys who are singing,
- 25:23Speaker 3: I'm like, yo, this is all like Nelly derived Obviously
- 25:26Speaker 3: you were influenced by a goodie mob and all that,
- 25:28Speaker 3: but I'm like, man like, yo, like you made it
- 25:31Speaker 3: cool to make songs, like to sing like it didn't
- 25:34Speaker 3: always have, especially in that era that was that was
- 25:36Speaker 3: you know when you turned on the radio back then,
- 25:38Speaker 3: it was a lot different man obviously, DMX god Rest
- 25:40Speaker 3: of Soul was.

- 25:48Speaker 2: idea and they were like everybody was going to this
- 25:50Speaker 2: performance as.
- 25:51Speaker 4: New kid dm MAX and leather overalls on.
- 25:58Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, The dog Chance, Yeah, I
- 26:01Speaker 2: was like, damn in.
