- 2:17of things going on with the Charleston Dirty Birds, your hometown baseball team.
- 2:21Eatan's going to join us to talk about that. Plus under President Craig Blair
- 2:23is here as well, and all lots of buzz around Charleston about what's going
- 2:27on with one of our sister stations, ninety eight point seven, and we're
- 2:30going to delve into that a little bit later on. It's kind of a
- 2:32wild situation over there. We'll talk about that coming up a little bit later
- 2:37on, but I want to talk right now with Brian Dayton from the West
- 2:39Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Brian, good morning, How are you, sir,
- 2:43Dave. I'm great. It's great to be back on today. You
- 2:45told me you listened to ninety eight point seven coming in. It's kind of
- 2:47a wild ride going on there. I did, I did. I enjoyed
- 2:51it a little different and yeah, thanks for the tip on that it's gonna
- 2:54be a lot different over the next couple of days and then Monday, Oh,
- 2:57it gets to be really different. So we'll leave that alone. Brian,
- 3:01it's been about a week or so, I guess since you folks at
- 3:04the Chamber released some of your only early Polly numbers since and some campaign finance
- 3:08numbers have come out as well. So just in case anyone may have missed
- 3:13it, just taken from the top on the on the Polly numbers the Chamber
- 3:16came out with last We just just take it from the top there, sure,
- 3:19So just to give a little background on it, the Chamber had conducted
- 3:23a poll in June of some of the top statewide races in West Virginia,
- 3:28and we plan to continue polling throughout the year, up through the primary and
- 3:30and quite possibly the general election. But what we really found is that some
- 3:36of these races are quite competitive. Others certain candidates are running away. So
- 3:39that you know, the big race at the federal level is the United States
- 3:43Senate race, and you know the two main candidates. I would say there
- 3:46were some others that are filed, but Governor Jim Justice and Congressman Alex Mooney.
- 3:52And what we found is that Governor Jim Justice is receiving support from fifty
- 3:57six percent of the voters and compared to Alex Mooney at night ten percent and
- 4:00the remaining undecided. That is a huge difference between the two candidates. Does
- 4:05it surprise you, It really does not. We have seen numbers similar to
- 4:10this. Governor Justice is incredibly popular. Ever since the COVID pandemic began,
- 4:16he has been in front of West Virginians every single day, and before the
- 4:20pandemic, he was in front of them most days, you know. So
- 4:24he's extraordinary well, extraordinarily well known. He's been very very popular. So
- 4:30it doesn't surprise us that he is setting it fifty six percent compared to his
- 4:33opponent at nineteen percent. Right now, what normally happens, and I know
- 4:38you were on hot with Hoppy last week, what normally happens when when you
- 4:41release these polls is you have the folks that aren't doing so well immediately start
- 4:45issuing statements, which I mean, if I were running for office, I
- 4:47probably would too, you know, I mean, not necessarily disparaging the Chamber
- 4:51of Commerce, but I would say, well, you know they it's still
- 4:54early and there's still a variety of things you could say, and so I
- 4:57guess I guess you got some of that too, right, Well, absolutely,
- 5:00And you know, in fairness, what I would say is polling is
- 5:01a snapshot in time, and that goes for any poll. Yeah, it
- 5:05is a snapshot in time. So some of these other races I'll talk about
- 5:09in a minute, it really depends. This is a very early with the
- 5:13Senate race, you are talking about a very well known quantity in Governor Jim
- 5:17Justice. So that is something that's going to be important. We do know
- 5:20that the Club for Growth has been saying they're planning to spend upwards of ten
- 5:25million dollars on this race. Typically, I think what we see with independent
- 5:29expenditure efforts, like an entity such as the Club for Growth, they will
- 5:32do some polling and they'll see where the numbers are. Then they're going to
- 5:35spend some money and they'll come back and they will pull again. And it's
- 5:39usually internal, but they're going to see can they move those numbers any If
- 5:43they can, they'll spend some more, they'll fine tune the messaging. But
- 5:46if the numbers don't move, then a lot of times they will pack up.
- 5:49They've got other races and other states they're worrying about. So I think
- 5:53does that spend come through for the club for growth? That remains to be
- 5:56seen, and it'll just depend on they have been doing some spending. They're
- 6:00going to determine whether or not they're moving the numbers, and that's what will
- 6:02make their decision. Let's go to some of the other races. Take governor
- 6:05for example. So governor, this one is very very competitive. Now,
- 6:10what I would say is this is not a name recognition poll that we've done.
- 6:13That we've done, but it is driven by name recognition. So you
- 6:15have the current Attorney General Patrick Morrisey at thirty one percent, but you have
- 6:21House Judiciary Chairman Moore Capito at thirty percent. Both of them have great name
- 6:28recognition. The Attorney General has been in what I would say five very competitive
- 6:31elections, his three general elections for Attorney General, plus a very competitive primary
- 6:36and general in twenty eighteen in his US Senate race, So he is a
- 6:41very well known quantity to the state. More Capito he's getting well known in
- 6:46his own right, but obviously he's the son of US Senator Shelley Moore Capito,
- 6:49who has universal name might in the state as well and is very popular.
- 6:55So those two are at the very top. The other candidates right now
- 6:58are still in the single day. But again it is early. This is
- 7:01a snapshot in time, and we've seen some campaign finance reports and I would
- 7:05think it's very possible that some of those candidates have have the funds available to
- 7:11really boost their NAMD out and potentially propel themselves into the front of the crowd.
- 7:15If you're one of the candidates. Let's think the governor's race, for
- 7:17example, if you're one of the candidates is maybe not polling quite as well,
- 7:20you know, you're you're down in you know, third, fourth,
- 7:24you know whatever. What do they do at this point? Did they just
- 7:27start hitting their donors a little bit harder and I know you're gonna finance expert,
- 7:30but I mean, you start hitting the donors hardest, saying, hey,
- 7:31polling this said, you know the word fourth, I need your help.
- 7:35Or do they start reevaluating and saying, Okay, come next year,
- 7:40is this thing going to be worth it for me? You know, I
- 7:42think there's going to be a mixture of that. You're gonna have to see
- 7:46can you raise the funds to be competitive. We've we've talked Steve Roberts so
- 7:50many times over the years. Steve's the president of the West Virginia Chamber.
- 7:54The old saying was that a million dollars could buy you about ninety percent NAMD
- 7:58in West Virginia. How However, I think about everybody has noticed prices have
- 8:01gone up, So I don't know that it's a million dollars anymore. Maybe
- 8:05it's two, maybe it's three million. But at some point you are going
- 8:07to have to have the resources to build your name id, and that's that's
- 8:11just a challenge when it comes to a statewide race. It is also going
- 8:16to be complicated by the fact that you're going to have a competitive presidential primary.
- 8:20Right now, you have presidential candidates, they are going to be running
- 8:22ads. Most states around US have a very competitive US in an election coming
- 8:28up, and we share media markets with our boards, so there's going to
- 8:31be a lot of expense to driving someone's name id up. So I think
- 8:35those candidates who are not there, they're going to have to look. It's
- 8:37early filing is official filing is until January, so you still have some time
- 8:43to see can you raise them dollars. But as that dayline approaches, I
- 8:46think people are gonna have to make some decisions. They are they able to
- 8:50stay in the race or do they want to do something else? And you
- 8:54know, Brian again we're talking with Brian Dayton for the Western Duinia Chamber of
- 8:56Commerce. And some of this polling that's that came out last week and also
- 8:58some of the things financial aspects of it as well. And when we see
- 9:01polling come out, um, you know there were and I had somebody contact
- 9:05me or a couple of people did and said that, you know a couple
- 9:07of races that weren't mentioned. You know, you didn't get into secretary of
- 9:11state for example. You got three people that I'm aware of that are running
- 9:13for that state auditor. There's one now that I know and talked to one
- 9:18last night that's probably going to get at it um ad Commissioner, etc.
- 9:24And with all due respect and you can better explain this than I can,
- 9:26Brian, with all due respects. As people running, it's a little early
- 9:30and maybe the interest in some of those races just isn't there yet. Yes,
- 9:35So the other race, aside from governor, you assented that we did
- 9:37poll was the race for attorney general. An attorney general I would say is
- 9:41a bit high profile or a more high profile role than some of the other
- 9:45offices. Well, it's one of those roles too. If you are the
- 9:46attorney general, as Patrick Morrissey has shown and other attorney generals, you have
- 9:52a large office. I don't know how many. It's one of the larger
- 9:54offices under the dome, but it's usually the one guy you see out there,
- 9:58or the one person so that you see out there, but go ahead.
- 10:01That is the office where the attorney general they are fighting the USPA and
- 10:05so forth, filing important lawsuits on behalf of the state of West Virginia,
- 10:09defending our laws. So it is a more public facing office. So we
- 10:13did take a look at that race. The others. It is early.
- 10:16People were just not paying attention to what we found in the attorney general's races.
- 10:20Again, by and large, people aren't thinking about this race right now.
- 10:24It is wide open for the candidates. So the two candidates announced our
- 10:28state senators Ryan Weld and Mike Stewart, and Mike Stewart came in at twenty
- 10:33percent, Ryan Weld at fourteen percent and our margin of air is six percent,
- 10:37so they're within the margin of air of each other. But vast majority
- 10:41of voters two thirds have not decided on this race. They're not thinking about
- 10:46it yet. So that means campaigns are going to be really, really important
- 10:50in this race. Whether you're looking at the two candidates you've had. Ryan
- 10:54Weld, he has completing his second term next year in the state Senate.
- 10:58He's been the majority Web the current vice chair of the Judiciary Committee. Mike
- 11:03Start was just elected to the state Senate last year, but he served a
- 11:07pretty high profile role as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of West
- 11:09Virginia. So he the head of Trump's campaign in twenty sixteen. He's got
- 11:13some good name identification from that. Senator Weld is looking at just a portion
- 11:18of the northern Panhandle. So right now, what we would say is this
- 11:22race is wide open and campaigns are going to matter on it. When can
- 11:26we expect more polling to come out from you folks? I mean you do
- 11:30this a lot. I mean, at what point do you say, Okay,
- 11:33this was the early when's the next one coming out? Or what are
- 11:35the plans? Zo? You know, I think it's reasonable right now,
- 11:37we haven't set a hard date on what that is, but we're looking in
- 11:41the next month or two to have some additional polling. We also know that,
- 11:45you know, Metro News always runs out there annual West Virginia poll right
- 11:48before Labor Day, so that's going to be another benchmark we're looking at.
- 11:52We're looking at not just our polling, but other polling that are coming out
- 11:56public from other entities as well. But what we're talking about with in our
- 12:00office is maybe the next month or two going back out in the field.
- 12:03We want to keep looking at these races just to see how things begin to
- 12:07move. Last Friday, for example, we had the campaign finance reports come
- 12:11out, so that gave us a lot of information on who's raising money,
- 12:15who's not raising money, and so forth. So it's going to be interesting
- 12:18just to see who has the resources, how they start to spend it,
- 12:20and what's that do start to start moving those races. Had a couple of
- 12:24texts here for you. One text says asked Brian Dayton about the reduction and
- 12:28inflation since August twenty two, the current rate and the job growth in the
- 12:33US compared to West Virginia since then. So it's the reduction and asked Brian
- 12:39Dayton about the reduction inflation since August twenty twenty two, the current rate and
- 12:43the job growth in the US compared to West Virginia since then. So what
- 12:48we're seeing right now is when we look at our overall jobs numbers in West
- 12:52Virginia, we have lost some employment compared to a year ago, and that
- 12:58is cause for concern and it is something we're paying very close attention to right
- 13:01now. Inflation is I would say, inflation is still going up. It's
- 13:05maybe not going up as fast as it was, but make no mistake about
- 13:09it, it's still going up right now. What I would say, though,
- 13:13that is optimistic, is that we continue to land a lot of really
- 13:16important economic development projects in West Virginia. We know of some others that are
- 13:20likely to be announced in the next few months. So to Senator Blair about
- 13:24that a little bit later on the shows, a matter ofyody, yeah,
- 13:26and I know, you know, hats off to Senator Blair, Speaker Handshaw.
- 13:30They have been hitting the road, so has Secretary car Michaels, so
- 13:33many others. They've been out there, you know, hitting the road trying
- 13:35to bring businesses into West Virginia, and they're having some success. Actually they're
- 13:39having a lot of success, not some success. We are concerned about the
- 13:43dipping employment numbers. We are keeping a very close eye on that. One
- 13:48of the challenges though, that we truly believe as an issue is workforce.
- 13:52And we're hearing a lot of employers that they've got jobs open, they want
- 13:56to hire people, they can't fire or can't find people. So that's a
- 14:01really big concern for us. That's something we're gonna be looking at very closely
- 14:03during the legislative session. What do we've got, what do we need to
- 14:07do to really adjust our workforce plan to get more people in the workforce.
- 14:11I think that's a big driver in the dippin employment that we've seen. It's
- 14:15it's not that you know, you have a lot of people in unemployment can't
- 14:18find work, It's that the employers can't find employees. Right now, art
- 14:20every day, all right. One of the texts before we let you go
- 14:24texted what about Miller as in the son of Carol Miller, Chris Miller.
- 14:28So Chris Miller can be on the show, by the way program, No,
- 14:31Chris Miller will be on the show on Monday, But go ahead,
- 14:33great Chris Miller. You know, i'd say Chris is very very well known
- 14:37in Cabell County, Puttenham County, Wayne County, you know, a good
- 14:41portion of Kanall County. What's interesting about Chris is the cash on hand that
- 14:46he has. So he had a pretty good fundraising quarter. He raised over
- 14:48three hundred thousand more capital was writing that ballpark as well. Patrick Morrisey he
- 14:54raised a million. No, he was very successful in collecting what I would
- 14:56almost call micro donations, so a lot of them were, uh, you
- 15:01know, conservative activists across the country that donated. So those candidate campaigns have
- 15:07a lot of money. Chris Miller is setting on that. I last looked
- 15:11about three and a half million dollars cash on hand. Now a big chunk
- 15:13of that is a loan from himself. Yeah, but you know, certainly
- 15:16if he decides to spend that loan, I think he has the resources to
- 15:20get out and really propel himself into contention. Uh, you know, very
- 15:24well known in this area, but there's a lot more of West Virginia that
- 15:28he needs to build his name out and a lot of time. Again,
- 15:30I've said it time and it used to be Labor Day was the kickoff,
- 15:33Labor Day of election, the Labor Day of election here was the kickoff.
- 15:37And now it's just you know, it's it starts on day one. Quickly,
- 15:41last thirty seconds or so? What else is going on to chamber?
- 15:45Because it almost time to talk about the Business Summit? I guess right.
- 15:48Yes, we have our annual Meeting of Business Summit August thirtieth through September.
- 15:52First. We have a packed agenda, record sponsors, our attendants very well,
- 15:56could break records at the pace we're going. We're very excited about it.
- 16:00This is a really great event in West Virginia that brings everybody together,
- 16:06higher education, policy leaders, business leaders, small businesses, and so forth.
- 16:11Brings everybody together for really a discussion about continuing to move West Virginia forward.
- 16:15So that event we're just six weeks away. If you want to know
- 16:18what we are doing over the West Virginia Chamber, we're doing that, getting
- 16:22ready for that. It is an all encompassing role right now. Well,
- 16:25good luck Weather. I know it's a big, big deal. All right,
- 16:27Brian, we'll talk so man, I appreciate it. Thanks a lot

- 19:00texts here on the heels of the interview there with Brian Dayton and the Chamber
- 19:07of Conference, tex says the wester Vin Dunia Chamber of Commerce is against religious
- 19:11freedom. That says all our citizens need to know about the West Virginia Chamber
- 19:17Texas. Mike Stewart abandoned his Senate duties to ride the coat tails the adjudicated
- 19:22sex abuser Texas Dayton is completely wrong. Inflation was nine point one in August
- 19:27twenty twenty two, it's now three percent. Is that an increase or a
- 19:30dcrase? Shame on the West Virginia Chamber for not knowing that. According to
- 19:34a text, I'll look that up. Let me see Texas Dave on Monday.
- 19:41Can you ask Chris Miller about his family's buffalo farm that his mom,
- 19:44our congressional representative, Carol Miller, got three million dollars in PPP loans for
- 19:48you know, the loan money she voted to give out and voted to forgive.
- 19:52Text says Brian Dayton, sounds I keys and the factive member of the
- 19:56Justice campaign staff. I don't know about that. He's just reporting what was
- 20:00what was told, all right, real quick here unless something breaks during the
- 20:03show and Jeff Jenkins come running in here. I'm not planning on talking about
- 20:07former WV coach Bob Huggins on the show today unless something happens and nullified this
- 20:11statement. But I do want to correct something from yesterday. As you know,
- 20:15no one could possibly make fun of or poke fun at Dave more than
- 20:19Dave does, meaning me. Yesterday, I had author Kate Farmer on the
- 20:23show talking about some of the problems with her generation with Generation Z. Turns
- 20:27out that during almost the entire interview I referred to her and Eden Douglas is
- 20:32here. You'll get a kick out of this, Eden. I referred to
- 20:33her as Kate Foster, when her in fact, her name is Kate Farmer.
- 20:37So while we're all busy shaming gen Z for being lazy, addicted to
- 20:41devices, no work ethic at all, you may want to save a little
- 20:45criticism for your boy here, who apparently is lacking in the area of reading
- 20:48comprehension. Since I called miss Farmer miss Foster nearly the entire interview, and
- 20:53it wasn't until I got to thank you email from her after the show that
- 20:57I realized i'd called her the name. So to Shay gen Z, her
- 21:02name was Kate Farmer, not Kate Foster. Go ahead, Eating, go
- 21:04ahead, and get out of your system, because I know you want to
- 21:07laugh at that. Go ahead. It's one of those days. It was
- 21:10one of those days yesterday I wanted to get that all right eating dougs from
- 21:11the dirty birds here. How are you doing, kid, You're doing all
- 21:14right, good, doing good, all right, good good. I I
- 21:17called them the dirty birds, but in fact, tonight they're gonna be the
- 21:19Charlies. Yeah right, yeah, tonight we are the Charleston Charlies. And
- 21:22get ready because Saturday night you're gonna be the Pepperoni Rolls. Oh yeah,
- 21:26all right, yeah, a long long weekend. Tonight's Dollar Beer Night.
- 21:30We're playing as the Charleston Charlies. And then on top of that, we
- 21:33are announcing the artists lineup for our down on Dirty Music Festival that we're hosting.
- 21:38So tonight during the game, on the fifth inning, I'll say every
- 21:42artist that will be at the music festival be announced. There's a couple of
- 21:45local West Virginia connections. That's gonna be fun, and that's gonna be on
- 21:51the big screen of the video board. You're doing that right, Yeah,
- 21:52I have a little sizzle reel. It's gonna be played and so we everyone
- 21:56will know. Um, it's a party. It's gonna be a party,
- 21:59I mean. And one of the dates that October fourteenth and fifteen, the
- 22:03stay Yeah yeah, I mean, tickets are twenty dollars, So why not
- 22:07spend twenty bucks and coming party with the Dirty Birds and some Nashville recording artists
- 22:12for the day. So that's pretty fun, and we're announcing all of that.
- 22:17It's been a long time coming, so we're excited. Tomorrow night is
- 22:19Redneck Night, which I cannot wait for. Then it's gonna be one of
- 22:22my favorite nights. What can we expect to see it? Redneck Night?
- 22:26Oh gosh. So there's gonna be a few things. We're obviously going to
- 22:29have stuff decorated. We're gonna set up beer poem behind the press box.
- 22:33We'll have that. We also have a mechanical bowl buying the press box for
- 22:36people to do thanks to Quantum Sports. And then, um, so this
- 22:41is gonna sound really weird, but I thought this idea it would be funny.
- 22:44We've got like eight to ten porta potties that are coming and they're not
- 22:48gonna be usable, so you cannot use them. The doors are going to
- 22:52be off of them, and we are going to set them up up against
- 22:53the seating bowl so you can sit in the porta potty and watch the game.
- 22:57You can set on the throne and watch watch some baseball. Now,
- 23:04let's keep in mind. Okay, although it sounds like a good idea that
- 23:07some smart lak like me or Ryan would do, you can only sit on
- 23:11there, Yes you pants on? Yes, yeah, sit not okay,
- 23:15And I'll leave it at that, all right, I'll leave not usable.
- 23:18And we were talking like someone's gonna get drunk and do it and like just
- 23:22joke around and do it. And I said, can you imagine being a
- 23:26player and like catching a ball or making it a play and looking up in
- 23:30the stands and seeing someone using a port Can we play tomorrow night? I
- 23:33know it's been Guestonia. Who do we play morning? Southern Maryland? Okay,
- 23:36So here's what you need to do. You need to not publicize that
- 23:38to them. To the opposition, you need to not you know, we'll
- 23:41keep it on this radio show. But we don't need to publicize it to
- 23:45them. We just need to see when that you know, that right fielder
- 23:48or something just happens to look up in the stands for Southern Maryland, he
- 23:51sees somebody sitting on the on the on the device there. Yeah, it's
- 23:53gonna be came up with that idea? Was that you as me? You
- 23:56came up with the idea of having people said on porta pot he's doing the
- 24:00game. I did. It's gonna be pretty fun. Um, we're gonna
- 24:02have like mullet contests, Redneck beauty pageant. Um. I don't know if
- 24:06you've ever seen the hog calling, but we're gonna do stuff like that.
- 24:10There's just so much that we've been putting into this from the southern West Virginia.
- 24:14Boy, that's the slight going home. Yeah, you know, you
- 24:15know I feel the same. We had a textures and what is a what
- 24:21is a trucker's hat. It looks like a baseball cap. There are actually
- 24:23two different things. We're doing a trucker hat giveaway. So the front is
- 24:29fabric the front of the hat, and then the back of that is like
- 24:30a mesh material and it like latches in the back. Yeah, So that's
- 24:34the difference. It's got the mash in the back. Yeah. And the
- 24:37front of it is gonna have a it's a patch and it's got our head
- 24:42logo on it. And then um, we have those like to give away
- 24:45to the first one thousand fans in the gates. So that'll be the giveaway
- 24:49tomorrow. Um. Then it's Redneck Night and then Saturday we're just turning around
- 24:53and having fun all day long with Pepperoni rolls. And that's the official name
- 24:57is that the only time the season' are yeah, one time, one night
- 25:02only. They'll play as the Charleston Pepperoni Rolls. Those, by the way,
- 25:04I mentioned on the show you have to eat those. Those uniforms are
- 25:07pretty awesome. Now, will there be merchandise for sale? Says the Dirty
- 25:12I'm sorry. The Pepperoni Rolls hats are for sale right now in the team
- 25:17store, and we will have replica jerseys for sales the Pepperoni rolls for Pepperoni
- 25:22Rolls. Yes, but we are encouraging because all proceeds from this event go
- 25:26to a good Will of Canall Valley. So are we're having a contest and
- 25:30a festival before the game starting at three, So everything that's made from that
- 25:36goes towards good Will of Cannal Valley. And then the jersey auction we're auctioning
- 25:40off the game warn jerseys that the guys are wearing, and that's available and
- 25:42open now in our live source app. So we're the game war and Ones.
- 25:47You can bid one for auction, but you can also if you don't
- 25:48want to game war and One, you can get one from the team Store.
- 25:52I'm talking with Etan Douglas here from The Dirty Bird slash Charlie slash Pepperoni
- 25:55roles what's the Spanish name again? Without because you just played as them like
- 26:00a week or so, right last week and then and I'll give credit,
- 26:03you know, to not only you, but the entire Dirty Birds team in
- 26:08the organization for what you're doing, because you're doing what what what minor league
- 26:11baseball is supposed to be, and that is to be fun. You know,
- 26:15years and years, I mean, you know, minor league baseball has
- 26:18always been popular, but somebody got the idea outside Charleston years ago that we
- 26:23need to make this as exciting as possible and as fun as possible. And
- 26:27if you go to the Dirty Birds website, which I do so I can
- 26:30update. When when I talk about the Dirty Birds, I mean every night
- 26:34there's at least like three things going Even when you you're not having people watch
- 26:37the game from porta potties and things like that, there's something going on.
- 26:41You have two to three things every night, every day, at every game,
- 26:45at every game, like the nightly promotions is what we work on a
- 26:48lot in the off season, and like Tuesday's yet Tuesday Night we had three
- 26:52dollars truly Tuesday Baseball bingo, buy one, get one hot dogs, and
- 26:56half price beer. So that's like four things right there. That was just
- 27:00on a Tuesday. Then Wednesdays everyone gets to scratch off when they walk in
- 27:03and you get either a free soda, a free sub from Steak Escape,
- 27:07or a pe Wiggily gift card like there's stuff like that. Thursday's Dollar Beers,
- 27:11everyone loves dollar Beers. Or then that's when we play as our alternate
- 27:15identities as the Copa brand or the Charlie's. Fridays are a giveaway first one
- 27:22thousand fans every Friday gets the something through the Gates, fireworks every Saturday night,
- 27:26and Sundays are Family Fundays, so every single day we've got how's the
- 27:33attendance bend this season? Really good? Actually? Um, you know we're
- 27:36in that those months where people are on vacation and then there's also other events
- 27:41going on, but it's fans are still really coming and really supporting us,
- 27:45which we loved. And there was a big announcement Yeah I think they're yesterday,
- 27:48right, yesterday. Yeah, we're actually partnering with Multifests this year and
- 27:52extending it to five days, so our African American Heritage Night that we have
- 27:57at the ballpark every year is now part of multi fests. So we're really
- 28:02excited about that four hundred and fifty books that'll be given away to kids.
- 28:06We're giving away free food to all the children. Um, there's gonna be
- 28:10a lot, a lot to happen that night too, and that's August Eith.
- 28:14So many things going on, and again I urge you two and I've
- 28:17said it when when you've been on the show before, you focus us to
- 28:19a fantastic job in your social media because if you that's how you get the
- 28:22word out. Um, you know, you got to have a variety of
- 28:26things, be at radio, television, you know, newspaper, online,
- 28:30Facebook, Instagram, all the things, and you just do a great job
- 28:33of keeping people updated. You have scoring updates during the game, except when
- 28:37you lose, and I have a ten notes. You don't really do that,
- 28:40don't really, we don't really do that. I will say we're coming
- 28:42together the second half. We look like a different we look like a completely
- 28:45different Wi Street going there for a while. Yeah, and then now you
- 28:48dropped two in a row, so we're getting back on track. It was
- 28:52a no hitter until the sixth, sending last night, and uh, we
- 28:55were really hoping and then we always scored one run of the night, so
- 28:56we ended up losing two to one. But we look like a completely different
- 29:00team. So the hopes are high for the rest of the good stuff.
- 29:03We have to win the second half. Got to Yeah, and you're headed
- 29:07down to Savannah, is it right? Yeah, So we're obviously in town
- 29:11until Sunday, and then we're flying to Savannah, Georgia on Monday morning at
- 29:15five thirty am to play the Savannah Bananas that night in Savannah, and then
- 29:21we are boarding the playing Tuesday morning and flying right back here to play Tuesday
- 29:26Wednesday, Thursday. So you're gonna do a Bananas game in their house.
- 29:27Yeah, and then you're going to fly back for the for the next home
- 29:33game on Tuesday night. Well, just go to the dirty Bridge Baseball dot
- 29:37com. Check out all the social media sites to Twitter, the Facebook,
- 29:41the Instagram, everything. You'll have all the information on there. Because there's
- 29:42a lot going on. Charlie's tonight, you're playing to Charlie's Night playing is
- 29:45the Pepperoni Rolls on Saturday night? You got Redneck Night going on where you're
- 29:51gonna have porta potties in the stands for people to sit. Sit, yes,
- 29:56sit sit only sit only to wh the game's gonna be a lot of
- 30:00funny. Folks are just killing it. I want to say, you're knocking
- 30:03down the park, but that'd be a really bad pun, and I don't
- 30:04do bad puns. But you're doing a great job over there. We'll talk

- 33:43Craig Blair Good morning, sir. How are you very good? I'm happy
- 33:47to be back at the Capitol and working. Been in Charleston, West Virginia
- 33:51for the last five or six days promoting West Virginia. So yeah, I
- 33:54think you've been now, you've been in Seattle for you know, well that
- 33:58was before then, Okay, okay, all right, and I let make
- 34:00sure you know where you are, all right, So I understand, speaking
- 34:05of which, you and several others got back from a trip to Seattle trying
- 34:09to sell the virtues of the Mountain States to some companies out that way,
- 34:12trying to get some to move here. And I know obviously you can't talk
- 34:15specifics, but overall, sir, how was the trip? The trip was
- 34:20excellent. Look, we've been doing this now for two years, Brad Smith,
- 34:24Gordon ge the speaker, myself, of some of the folks from the
- 34:29secretaries from Economic Development and Tourism, things like that, and of and commerce.
- 34:36Let me include that. And one of the things I noticed this year
- 34:40that's different from the last, and that is is that Corporate America is now
- 34:46starting to court West Virginia. Ins to West Virginia court and corporate America.
- 34:52And that's a pivotal changing in my opinion, and it's got to do with
- 34:58the hard work that's been taken place by everybody. Everybody's working as a team,
- 35:02whether it's the legislature, the executive to agencies that are out there.
- 35:07We're making ourselves look good to corporate America. The people are looking good and
- 35:14it's time for you know, West Virginia has been a bud of jokes for
- 35:17many, many, many years, and that's changing. The people outside of
- 35:22the state, I actually believe, think better of the state than the people
- 35:25inside the state. We're our own worst enemies, mister bud. I've said
- 35:29that before and at Present Company included. I told my fair share of West
- 35:32Virginia jokes to be in a native West Virginia. But sometimes we're our own
- 35:36worst enemies. Yeah, and you've got to be able to laugh at yourself,
- 35:38but to actually more importantly, you need to be able to believe in
- 35:43yourself and believe in what's going on. And that is actually changing in the
- 35:45state of West Virginia. And it's amazing. But we're getting it right of
- 35:52whether it's our tax structures that we got here, our infrastructures of our education
- 35:58systems are getting better, and it will continue to get better. You just
- 36:02got to say to yourself, traditionally we've done it this way, but that
- 36:08is not necessarily the way it should be working. We're trying to move into
- 36:13the twenty first century and really really get ahead of other states. And I
- 36:19said that I was in Charleston, I think said Charleston, West Virginia.
- 36:22That's why I m right now. I just spent five days in Charleston,
- 36:27South Carolina, and I was with states, whether it would be Texas,
- 36:32Florida to West Virginia and all the states in the middle of It's called the
- 36:37SLC, the Southern Legislative Conference, and there was abate eighteen hundred legislators there,
- 36:44and I spent all my time with dealing with people coming up and saying,
- 36:49how'd you do this, how'd you do that? How'd you get your
- 36:52pensions the way they are? The list goes on on that, and so
- 36:58we exchange information and we learned from each other trying to do better. And
- 37:01there is no question about it that when it comes to the southeast, this
- 37:07were the strong of growing part of this country. And and I'm happy that
- 37:15West Virginia is a component of that. And we're growing it. Talking to
- 37:19again with the Center President Craig Blair here on five eighty Live, it's nine
- 37:22forty five. So when you're talking to prospective companies about possibly relocating here doing
- 37:29some business in West Virginia, what are some of the selling points that you
- 37:32tell They've got the economic data, they can see that for themselves. But
- 37:36when you're when you're having a having a you know, a cup of coffee
- 37:38in the morning or drink at night, or riding in an uber or whatever,
- 37:44what do you tell people about West Virginia about the people itself? Okay,
- 37:49first of all, we're a small, nimble state, and nimble is
- 37:53the key word. There are many times where somebody may be in my office
- 37:59that that is coming in and they're thinking about investing in the state of West
- 38:02Virginia, and I will actually text underneath my desk and over to Mitch Carmichael
- 38:10or James Bailey and say, hey, I've come over here. I've got
- 38:15a potential client here, and they stop what they're doing and they come over
- 38:19the same way for Brian Abraham down the Governor's office or the speaker, and
- 38:23they see that and it puts on a good show, but in reality it
- 38:31is what it is. And then when they locate in the state, we
- 38:36also well, I ask them all, if you run into a roadbook and
- 38:40there's a problem that you see that we could do better, let us know.
- 38:45And the reason for it is we may not be able to prevent you
- 38:50from having that problem, but we can certainly make it so that the next
- 38:54business that comes into the state does not have that problem. So that's just
- 38:59one example of the different ways we go by doing things here in the state
- 39:02of West Virginia. Now, our biggest asse, you know, our biggest
- 39:07positive aspect that we have. Our biggest asset, I guess I would say,
- 39:09is our people. And I know that sounds like a cliche to say
- 39:13that, but it truly is per cliche. It's spot on. That's why
- 39:17they're so hirible outside the state, and this is why so many of them
- 39:22leave the state for gainful employment. They would stay here if the job opportunities
- 39:27were here. And that's what we're hell bent on doing is making it so
- 39:31that we've got these job opportunities for our youth so they can stay here,
- 39:37and then that helps with our education system. You're not worrying about school closures
- 39:40or Riffin teachers of that you are growing your state, and when the youth
- 39:46stays here, then what happens They make babies. I know that I sound
- 39:52terrible when I found that, but if you want to have a vibrant colony,
- 39:57you've got to have population growth, and there's only two ways to get
- 40:00it, and we're working on both of them. Keep our youth so that
- 40:02we actually have more children in school system, and then you make it so
- 40:07that people want to move here for these job opportunities. Indeed, good stuff
- 40:12to the President, Craig Blair. It's always a pleasure to have you on
- 40:15the show. And I will close with this. I know you can't jeopardize
- 40:19these products of these projects. I should say that you and others have worked
- 40:22so hard on to get here. But there really is some good stuff and
- 40:25the works and some big announcement's coming soon. I'm exposed to the potential of
- 40:32over sixty billion, that's with a B billion, sixty billion of investment into
- 40:39the state of West Virginia. And I'm not exposed to all of it by
- 40:44any means, but the one that the stuff that I've had in contact,
- 40:47and it will change the direction of the State of West Virginia. I have
- 40:51somebody coming in at eleven o'clock today of and how I was telling you about
- 40:54it. I hope they're not listening, but are already brief of the Secretary
- 41:01of Economic Development about it, and said, if you're free, I want
- 41:07you to slip over here. And so we'll work that out. And by
- 41:09the way, how about the one point two billion dollars that we're going to
- 41:15be putting further into the broadband investment in this state. Yeah, that huge.
- 41:21We can't we can't mess this up, and we're not going to mess
- 41:24it up. It's it's you're going to see the results and everybody in the
- 41:28state it's going to benefit from it, and their taxes are going to go
- 41:30down because of it. All right, Senate President Blair will let you go
- 41:34now. You gotta get ready for a meeting. We will talk soon.
- 41:37Thanks a lot for being here, sir, Thanks for having me. I

- 42:28gonna be on the show on Monday, so we'll ask him. Texas Senate
- 42:35President Craig Blair. While West Virginia's workforce participation rate is still the worst in
- 42:38the nation, there are a variety of reasons for that, and I know
- 42:42you said ask Craig Blair. But I'm going to answer to that right now
- 42:44since he's not here, there are I mean, we don't have enough time
- 42:47to go into all of the reasons why it is the worst in the nation,
- 42:51and it is. You know, part of it has to do with
- 42:52a older population. I am one. Let me sis say we tread on
- 43:00this lightly. I am one that's questioned sometimes when we talk about the West
- 43:05Virginia work ethic, because I don't think it is what it used to be.
- 43:08I don't like to work anybody is what it used to be, but
- 43:13maybe not so much in West Virginia. Something we gotta work on. And
- 43:15again, when we talk about bringing these companies here, and I think I
- 43:20mentioned this on the show yesterday, we talk about bringing these companies here,
- 43:22we got to bring people here as well. And I know that when you
- 43:25say that, and I've had text to the show, people said, Oh,
- 43:28we don't want these outsiders coming in. They're coming in, folks,
- 43:30They're going to be coming to West Virginia with all of these new jobs and
- 43:34all these corporations and billion dollars they're coming. We're we need people. We
- 43:38need people to migrate here from other states and other countries, and we're gonna
- 43:44have to have it now. I'm gonna take a break. We got more

- 47:15Also known as Dark Brandon Texas, West Virginia is shooting itself in the foot
- 47:20with social policies. The people are great, urban areas are great, the
- 47:22rural areas are great, but social policies keep the negative stereotypes in people's minds.
- 47:30Tex says, like it or not, Biden's Infrastructure and America Rescue Act
- 47:34and the Inflation Act are bringing these jobs to our state. Let's go Biden.
- 47:37According to a texture, texture says about baseball. Baseball and Charleston used
- 47:40to be a real sport. Now it's more like a circus, which is
- 47:44fine. I feel like the circus, but some people like like their baseball
- 47:46to be taken seriously. Programming notes no hoppy today. Mister Kerswell remains on

- 48:28Monday with Mayor Monday This Monday, featuring South Charleston mayor Frank Mullins. Also
- 48:31as mentioned, gibernatorial candidate Chris Miller, plus a major surprise coming on Monday,
- 48:37surprise guests. It's such a surprise guests, folks, that I'm not
- 48:42even allowed to mention who it is, the only thing I can say.
- 48:49And if you've been listening this morning and you follow me on social media,
- 48:52you know that some big changes are happening around the radio ranch here at eleven
- 48:55eleven, Virginia's Tree d said those changes that you're hearing with one of our
- 49:00stations, we'll take up the second part of my show on Monday. Now
- 49:06I can say for years, Woody Woods, g Money and the crew have
- 49:09been killing it over a ninety eight point seven to beat. Well, ninety
- 49:13eight point seven to beat is now moved to one oh seven three, So
- 49:16get used to say in one of seven point three the beats, and that
- 49:21means it's a much bigger signal for Woody and the crew to play with.
- 49:23I mean, it's it's it's out there. Wood He just kills it on
- 49:28that station. It's a fantastic job being the entire crew, and they're going
- 49:30to continue to do so. But now the beat is on one oh seven
- 49:34point three, so that leaves an opening on ninety eight point seven on your
- 49:38FM dial. Just keep listening, folks, a matter of fact, listen
- 49:43now, well, no, no, no, no, don't listen now,
- 49:45Ryan tell them not to listen. Now, listen at various points too
- 49:50out today. How's that I listened to this morning? Normally, I'm Rey,
- 49:53I listened religiously to Carry and Chris and the folks in the morning news
- 49:55when I'm coming in. But this morning I had to see what all the
- 49:59buzz was about. So I flipped over to ninety eight point seven my drive
- 50:02in from Tay's Valley this morning, and I was blown away by what's on
- 50:06there. Now, it's all over the place. That's all I'm allowed to
- 50:07say. All will be revealed on Monday, all right, But if you
- 50:12listen today, tomorrow, over the next couple of days on ninety eight point
- 50:15seven, you're gonna think what the heck is going on here? Well that's
- 50:19kind of my design, all right. So but the major component it's making
- 50:24all this happen on our sister station ninety eight point seven will be on the
- 50:30show the end toward the end of the show on Monday morning, not if
- 50:35I can say about that. Also, I just learned this yesterday apparently,
- 50:39and Ryan, I didn't know whether you knew this or not. Apparently,
- 50:43the show this year, a little radio shin dig that we do, is
