- 0:07Speaker 1: Welcome into the latest episode of Inside the Charge. I'm
- 0:10Speaker 1: Matti Glab joined by quarterback Trae Davius White Tray. You're
- 0:14Speaker 1: rocking the all black fit again.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but have you noticed, like this is a uniform
- 0:20Speaker 2: for me? It is, this is every day.
- 0:23Speaker 1: You just don't have to think about it.
- 0:24Speaker 2: No, it's so easy. Then you know if you missed
- 0:28Speaker 2: up the hat, Yeah, I know this hat is gonna
- 0:30Speaker 2: be the same. It's gonna be a Seattle Mariner hat.
- 0:33Speaker 1: You a Seattle Mariners fan.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Ken Griffith Jr. Oh, I'm gonna rock with him. But
- 0:40Speaker 2: the all black is a uniform. You can't go wrong.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Like I'm in Buffalo, it's knowing I don't have to
- 0:45Speaker 2: put too much thought into it, like you said. But
- 0:46Speaker 2: then Thanksgiving was last week. I may I put on
- 0:50Speaker 2: a couple of so you know what, they're black. You
- 0:53Speaker 2: can have it like this, That's what I'm saying. So
- 0:56Speaker 2: you know, maybe it's a little bit of that, or
- 0:58Speaker 2: I mean a little bit. I don't have many clothes
- 1:00Speaker 2: was either because I know when I was coming to Buffalto,
- 1:02Speaker 2: I was like, just pack up a couple of boxes.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I don't I don't need all these fancy colors like
- 1:08Speaker 2: I'm going to I'm going to a blue collar time.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We don't care about that.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You don't show off ready, but nothing nothing, you don't
- 1:15Speaker 1: know who you are here?
- 1:17Speaker 2: That too, and plus like I feel like they're all
- 1:20Speaker 2: black look good in the Supreme.
- 1:21Speaker 1: All black looks good on everybody with me in Supreme.
- 1:27Speaker 1: That's a good brand. Supreme is school brand.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I mean, over the years, they've taken a little bit
- 1:32Speaker 2: of my chain. You know how I say, a Supreme
- 1:35Speaker 2: probably got you know, I probably got a VIP passed
- 1:38Speaker 2: by this by this time.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Okay, Supreme, if you're listening, please sponsor.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Holler at me because I be Supreme from head to toe.
- 1:46Speaker 2: That was when I can, when I can.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's really good. Okay, let's get into week thirteen. The
- 1:52Speaker 1: defense did an incredible job of shutting down the Steelers
- 1:55Speaker 1: passing attack. You guys allowed just one hundred and eight
- 1:57Speaker 1: rushing yards. You normally allow one hundred and sixty three game,
- 2:00Speaker 1: which is the best in the NFL. What was working
- 2:04Speaker 1: so well?
- 2:06Speaker 2: Everybody's doing that job. I feel like, you know, we
- 2:09Speaker 2: came out hot. We came out hot, We were ready
- 2:11Speaker 2: to play. We was on fire. Anytime you can start
- 2:14Speaker 2: the game, you know, with a three and out, start fast,
- 2:18Speaker 2: like that's a great recipe to start your day cooking.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And you know you playing with you know, you're playing
- 2:25Speaker 2: in the green, Like you get the first three and
- 2:27Speaker 2: out after they take the ball, I mean they get
- 2:29Speaker 2: the first possession, you get three and out, you get
- 2:31Speaker 2: your offense the ball. You know, to start the game.
- 2:34Speaker 2: You can't start the game no better way other than
- 2:36Speaker 2: getting getting a takeaway or just going to touchdown. But
- 2:39Speaker 2: the three and out I feel like, you know, we
- 2:41Speaker 2: played team defense the whole night, especially in the second half.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Just you know, we talk about this every week. Man.
- 2:49Speaker 2: They like stopping the run and making the offense one dimensional.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And whenever you can do that, your pass versus can
- 2:56Speaker 2: get up to the quarterback mistakes happening. So we was
- 3:01Speaker 2: able to you know, first of all, on first second
- 3:03Speaker 2: down negative plays or limit the plays to second and
- 3:08Speaker 2: long where they are in the red, you know, where
- 3:09Speaker 2: officers don't want to be, and they got to drop
- 3:11Speaker 2: back and try to pass the ball to get back
- 3:13Speaker 2: on track. And we did a great job of doing
- 3:16Speaker 2: that all night, putting them in areas that they want
- 3:18Speaker 2: to be and we were great on third down too
- 3:20Speaker 2: great on third down, so you know, all those of
- 3:23Speaker 2: recipes for a great day, you know, and then getting
- 3:27Speaker 2: our offense the ball back, that's even better. So I
- 3:32Speaker 2: just think that we just honed in on our fundamentals.
- 3:35Speaker 2: We played up to our potential and we you know
- 3:38Speaker 2: how this week is. We talk about it every week.
- 3:40Speaker 2: This week to week, no game is bigger than the next,
- 3:43Speaker 2: but the next game is the most important. And I
- 3:45Speaker 2: think that we had a great mindset throughout the whole
- 3:48Speaker 2: week and we just went out and executed the game plan.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You know, had a great game. Christian Banford had a
- 3:54Speaker 1: great game. He has a fumble recovery for a touchdowns
- 3:58Speaker 1: and then on the next possession he has an interception
- 4:02Speaker 1: that rarely happens in a game. He was a technician
- 4:06Speaker 1: out there. Why was he seeing the field so well?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Sometimes the ball just find you, man, like you're in
- 4:12Speaker 2: a great uh, you're in a great situation, or you're
- 4:16Speaker 2: in a great spot or are you just executing you
- 4:18Speaker 2: and sig'nm in the ball find Let's talk about Joey
- 4:20Speaker 2: Bosa forcing forcing the fumble, but it was a dirt nap.
- 4:25Speaker 1: What's a dirt n app for? Those who don't know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: For those.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Who don't know, a dirt nap is, you know, you
- 4:30Speaker 2: just taking the opponent and just landing on them on
- 4:33Speaker 2: the ground and when they get up, they got a
- 4:35Speaker 2: lot of dirt and they face masks and it's just
- 4:37Speaker 2: an uncomfortable feeling. It's an uncomfortable sighting, but it's good
- 4:41Speaker 2: for the good, for the for the good guys. But
- 4:43Speaker 2: Joey like he took Aaron Rod just for a dirt
- 4:46Speaker 2: app and I like, you know, we've.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Been in the league a long time.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we played against each other a long time and
- 4:53Speaker 2: also with our achilles, we were happening together. So he
- 4:57Speaker 2: was able to develop a little relationship. But he a
- 5:00Speaker 2: third nap, No, Maddie, the ball came loose. CB was
- 5:04Speaker 2: able to not like the Ravens game, actually picked this
- 5:07Speaker 2: one up, scoop it and score. And did you see
- 5:09Speaker 2: his form? The running for him too? Though I had
- 5:11Speaker 2: to talk about him. What was it? It was like
- 5:13Speaker 2: one of those run far as run mom is like
- 5:16Speaker 2: he put the head back. Anytime you see somebody running
- 5:19Speaker 2: with their head back, like you know they're trying to
- 5:21Speaker 2: get it away. You know, you don't want nobody to
- 5:22Speaker 2: catch him, but right place, right time, executing his assignment.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Ball Man, this guy's a technician, though, let's just talk
- 5:30Speaker 2: about it.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Like he does his homework.
- 5:33Speaker 2: This dude take notes, take photos of the notes that
- 5:36Speaker 2: he already have. I always asked him, why do you
- 5:40Speaker 2: take a picture on your phone when you're taking your
- 5:42Speaker 2: notebook everywhere you go, You're taking it on the road,
- 5:44Speaker 2: So why you need pictures on your phone if you
- 5:48Speaker 2: He don't say much. He just looked at me like, Okay,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I just know.
- 5:53Speaker 1: What that means. I'm going to give you the secret.
- 5:55Speaker 2: He should everything he should because I need it. This
- 5:58Speaker 2: guy is the best coin in the league, and you
- 6:00Speaker 2: I need some of the sauts. I need some of
- 6:02Speaker 2: that sauce. But then the interception the very next play
- 6:06Speaker 2: or what two or three plays later. This guy's a baller.
- 6:11Speaker 2: This guy's a baller, man. We talk about him like
- 6:14Speaker 2: we always talk about CB and just he's just he's
- 6:18Speaker 2: just just attention to detail the way that he approached
- 6:22Speaker 2: the game and just how much he loved and compete
- 6:25Speaker 2: and he enjoyed. But he don't say much. But like
- 6:28Speaker 2: besides those two splash plays, like, let's just talk about
- 6:31Speaker 2: the job he does. On the number one receivers every.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Week, which we now know that Christian Benford asks for
- 6:39Speaker 1: those assignments. Says Coach Babbage, put me in there. I
- 6:43Speaker 1: want to go up against k Metcalf. I want to
- 6:45Speaker 1: do that.
- 6:46Speaker 2: He wants the smoke.
- 6:47Speaker 1: He wants to smoke.
- 6:49Speaker 2: But when you prepare the way he prepared, like you
- 6:51Speaker 2: go into the battle and you have no stress because
- 6:54Speaker 2: you know you've did all your homework, You did all
- 6:57Speaker 2: your homework, you watched all the film, you took your notes,
- 7:01Speaker 2: Prepare your ass off in practice each and every week,
- 7:04Speaker 2: taking every rep serious, getting out on the practice field
- 7:07Speaker 2: before the before every before you know it's time to
- 7:10Speaker 2: be out here doing your your dB drills, doing your
- 7:13Speaker 2: band work, doing your footwork. This guy's a technique we
- 7:17Speaker 2: talk about. This guy's a technician man like what I say,
- 7:20Speaker 2: like a technician, and he just enjoyed the game. He
- 7:22Speaker 2: love to compete, not afraid to tackle. Mm. This guy's
- 7:25Speaker 2: physical too, so like when you don't combine all those ingredients,
- 7:30Speaker 2: like of course he's gonna continue to have success on
- 7:32Speaker 2: the field, and we don't expect anything less of him
- 7:35Speaker 2: cause he he takes on the the toughest challenge each
- 7:38Speaker 2: and every week opposing teams number one receiver, and we
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't hear much. So GB keep doing your thing, cause
- 7:46Speaker 2: you know, I've I see it every day, I s I,
- 7:50Speaker 2: and I don't expect anything less because I know the
- 7:52Speaker 2: way the work that he puts in and the film
- 7:55Speaker 2: study that he's watches and all the extra stuff that
- 7:57Speaker 2: he does too, So all ingred the ingredients for to
- 8:02Speaker 2: be a successful player, and he's going to continue to
- 8:04Speaker 2: do that.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Trey, you were doing your thing out there too. Two
- 8:08Speaker 1: pass breakups against the Steelers. You were physical, you were
- 8:11Speaker 1: pushing the ball away. What is the art of a
- 8:15Speaker 1: successful past deflection?
- 8:18Speaker 2: First of all, you got to put yourself in position.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It's all about putting yourself in a position to make
- 8:23Speaker 2: the play. But specifically on the first people you I
- 8:28Speaker 2: had third down situation. Got to get off the field obviously,
- 8:33Speaker 2: obviously it's a passing down. What it's third and ten,
- 8:36Speaker 2: Third and eight is third and long. Oh, so we
- 8:38Speaker 2: know the balls going in there, so you know, defensive backs, cornerbacks,
- 8:43Speaker 2: we know we're up, so you know, just book your
- 8:46Speaker 2: chin strap man, let's roll. But I just think you know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: it was one of those things where I didn't feel
- 8:53Speaker 2: that I was in a dominant position to look back
- 8:55Speaker 2: to be able to find the ball.
- 8:56Speaker 1: How tough is it to be able to look back
- 8:59Speaker 1: at the right time to time it and make sure
- 9:01Speaker 1: you're not getting flagged.
- 9:02Speaker 2: M that's always the the the the split second decision
- 9:10Speaker 2: or the spit split second like body language of the
- 9:13Speaker 2: way of you moving, torquing your body to try to
- 9:16Speaker 2: finesse it. Because we know how this league is. The
- 9:18Speaker 2: office is not getting the ball down the field. They
- 9:21Speaker 2: want to see why, so obviously somebody's holding a pass interference,
- 9:24Speaker 2: were just not guarding people good. But it's it's a
- 9:28Speaker 2: little bit of trial and error being a guy that's
- 9:31Speaker 2: been in those positions before where a flag's been called
- 9:34Speaker 2: or a flag hasn't been called. But you just got
- 9:36Speaker 2: to be able to be poised and just be able
- 9:39Speaker 2: to just play through the receiver's hands, his mannerisms. Just
- 9:42Speaker 2: you know the ball is coming, even though like nobody's
- 9:45Speaker 2: telling you ball it's in the air. Like if you
- 9:48Speaker 2: a guy that's been playing in this league for a while,
- 9:49Speaker 2: like you know when the ball is coming. And it
- 9:51Speaker 2: was one of those situations where where I just had
- 9:54Speaker 2: a feeling that the ball was in the air and
- 9:56Speaker 2: saw the guy puts it, put his hands up, eyes
- 9:58Speaker 2: got a little big, and I would just I was
- 10:00Speaker 2: just poised. Just in those positions where you can't look back,
- 10:05Speaker 2: you gotta be poised, and I just played through the
- 10:07Speaker 2: receiver's hands and took him to the ground. And you know, deflection,
- 10:12Speaker 2: and that's just something you know that we practice, being
- 10:15Speaker 2: out of phase and getting back in phase and getting
- 10:17Speaker 2: to the position where you don't sort of interfere with
- 10:20Speaker 2: the receiver but still play, play physical, and play through
- 10:24Speaker 2: the ball. So those all the routine players that cornerbacks
- 10:29Speaker 2: go through each and every day. So whenever you're in
- 10:31Speaker 2: a position in a game when the bullet flying and
- 10:33Speaker 2: you're able to execute those techniques, that's what kind of
- 10:37Speaker 2: separates the good ones. So I was able to get
- 10:40Speaker 2: a little lot down, Like, come on, that's your technique too.
- 10:44Speaker 3: That's not all luck tray.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Coming now, come on. Yeah, now, years in the league,
- 10:50Speaker 2: now that's a long time. Let's talk about it. Yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 2: I mean, that's a lot. I got a lot of
- 10:55Speaker 2: pass breakups in my career, I feel. But uh, but
- 10:58Speaker 2: like I said, it's just a thing of it's a
- 11:01Speaker 2: field thing, like I said, especially when you're in a
- 11:03Speaker 2: position where you can't look back for the ball and
- 11:06Speaker 2: make a play on it. You got to play through
- 11:07Speaker 2: the receiver's hand because all the good ones, they know
- 11:10Speaker 2: they're trained to run into you, run back like they're
- 11:12Speaker 2: trying to catch the ball when they we know they're
- 11:15Speaker 2: not in the in the referees or training to throw it,
- 11:19Speaker 2: you know, because they feel like the receivers are trying
- 11:21Speaker 2: to make a play for the ball. But like I said,
- 11:24Speaker 2: it's just being in those situations before in years and
- 11:28Speaker 2: years and a lot of reps. Just being in that
- 11:30Speaker 2: situation but keeping my pout, which is the most important thing.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Defensive coordinator Bobby Babbage said, you're playing some good football
- 11:37Speaker 1: right now and you need to keep it going. You've
- 11:39Speaker 1: been physical out there, Tray. What has led to that
- 11:42Speaker 1: at this point in.
- 11:43Speaker 2: The Season's nah. I just think that you know, whenever
- 11:49Speaker 2: you get into these ball games, you know, late November,
- 11:52Speaker 2: early December, you know, intensity turns up playoffs football, every
- 11:57Speaker 2: every game, you know, summers on the line. But I
- 12:00Speaker 2: just think that we're in the groove right now as
- 12:01Speaker 2: a as a defense totals. But uh, anytime, you know,
- 12:05Speaker 2: like I said, we can stop the run and make
- 12:07Speaker 2: these teams two dimensionals and you know, you know draw back,
- 12:11Speaker 2: they gotta drop back and pass the ball. Uh. It
- 12:14Speaker 2: makes it easier on on the secondary because we got
- 12:17Speaker 2: great pass rustus and these guys are getting to the quarterbacks,
- 12:19Speaker 2: so it just forces the quarterbacks to make some ill
- 12:22Speaker 2: Avis throws. And fortunately for us, we got some long
- 12:26Speaker 2: guys on our team, long arms. You know, quarterbacks don't
- 12:29Speaker 2: wanna throw around that, so we been able to get
- 12:31Speaker 2: off hands on a lot of footballs that here as
- 12:33Speaker 2: of late. Let's just keep this thing going, cause we
- 12:36Speaker 2: need to keep it going.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Let's keep it going.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Gotta go.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Speaking of keeping things going, it's Dong of the week time.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Who is your dog of the week trade? It's tough.
- 12:48Speaker 2: This is a tough one cause on one hand, we
- 12:53Speaker 2: got a guy that made history and the Bills two
- 12:58Speaker 2: takeaways in two plays, not one, but two, two for two,
- 13:04Speaker 2: a touchdown, an interception, and I think both his takeaways
- 13:08Speaker 2: led to points for us. But then on the on
- 13:13Speaker 2: the flip side, we got a group so dogs with
- 13:20Speaker 2: a Z at the end, not a dog Z. We
- 13:23Speaker 2: got an old line that without two starters, we rushed
- 13:31Speaker 2: for over two hundred yards two forty nine. That cookie
- 13:37Speaker 2: is cooking right now.
- 13:40Speaker 1: He had thirty two rushing attempts and.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I feel like I'm bigger than him, and thirty two
- 13:46Speaker 2: times to go up and there to touch that ball.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Career high running from Cam Hayward, running from Cam Hayward,
- 13:53Speaker 1: from TJ.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Watt, Cam Hayward. That's that's a big That's that's a
- 13:57Speaker 2: big human man Like, even though I'm not on the field,
- 14:00Speaker 2: when the offense on the field, I can imagine how
- 14:02Speaker 2: James feel when Ca Cam Hayward is huge.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It was really cracks though. There are two big holes
- 14:12Speaker 1: that the offensive line opened up.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Let's talk about it when I without two stars, like
- 14:16Speaker 2: I said, But like I I've been in the league
- 14:21Speaker 2: for nine years and I haven't been watching NFL football
- 14:25Speaker 2: for a long time. But I don't think I ever
- 14:29Speaker 2: seen the Steelers give up like two hundred yards rushing.
- 14:36Speaker 1: And I'm not a defense, a good defense, since two
- 14:42Speaker 1: hundred yards a long time.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Our dogs of the week, we got the dogs of
- 14:47Speaker 2: the week. Let's talk. We gotta give it to the
- 14:49Speaker 2: old line, man like, but last week I gave it
- 14:52Speaker 2: to another guy in my room. So I don't think
- 14:55Speaker 2: to two back to back.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I don't this week got it. Alec Anderson, who hasn't
- 15:03Speaker 1: played tackle since college, goes up against T. J. Watt
- 15:06Speaker 1: and does his thing. Ryan Vandermark filling in two, does.
- 15:09Speaker 2: His left tackle though left tackle like.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Protecting your quarterbacks blind spot.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Come on, let's talk about it. Like starting against that
- 15:20Speaker 2: defense was kept clean. His jersey was like, it was
- 15:24Speaker 2: like what Dogs of the Week d A W g
- 15:31Speaker 2: Z dogs the line. I gotta give it to the
- 15:34Speaker 2: old line. Those guys. Even in the past game I
- 15:37Speaker 2: don't think was Josh sacked.
- 15:39Speaker 1: No, he wasn't sacked once. No man coming off of
- 15:41Speaker 1: a game where he was hit a lot. I mean,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you got to know the offensive line that whole week
- 15:46Speaker 1: was thinking we're not gonna let this happen again without
- 15:48Speaker 1: two starters. He wasn't sacked once against the Steelers, who
- 15:52Speaker 1: were top five in sacks.
- 15:54Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. Dogs of the Week O line, Like,
- 15:58Speaker 2: I got so much respect for those guys, like to
- 16:01Speaker 2: be able to line it up each and every play
- 16:03Speaker 2: when these when these d linemen are just trying to
- 16:06Speaker 2: tee off, teeing off each and every play, and they're
- 16:09Speaker 2: rotating guys into mid drive and you gotta keep going
- 16:14Speaker 2: to deal with the stress of Okay, in the run game,
- 16:16Speaker 2: we gotta try to move Cam Hayward in the middle
- 16:20Speaker 2: like all time great and in the past game, we
- 16:23Speaker 2: got to try to stop TJ. Watt and Alis high
- 16:25Speaker 2: Smith on the outside yep, to of the best in
- 16:27Speaker 2: the game. We got to try to stop these guys
- 16:29Speaker 2: from getting to our quarterback.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And the fact that TJ. Watt said they ran the
- 16:34Speaker 1: same two plays over and over again and I've never
- 16:37Speaker 1: seen a team do that and us struggle to stop
- 16:41Speaker 1: that the whole game.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I mean, like it was amazing to watch. Obviously being
- 16:47Speaker 2: on the sideline.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Yeah, what was it like on the sidelines when you're
- 16:49Speaker 1: watching all that happen.
- 16:51Speaker 2: I think third quarter, I think our offense chewed up
- 16:54Speaker 2: like eight minutes or seven minutes on one drive.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Time of possession was forty two minutes to.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Eighteen the whole game. Yes see, that's that's great. That's great.
- 17:05Speaker 2: First of all, that's just great time and clock management.
- 17:09Speaker 2: By by the old line, I mean by the offense
- 17:11Speaker 2: to offense. But you know when the t clock keeps running,
- 17:15Speaker 2: that's because the old line is coming off over and
- 17:18Speaker 2: over and over and tired. Yes, key first downs, four
- 17:24Speaker 2: minute offense like dollars of the week, man, like it's hard.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I love CB. He had a historic day, but that
- 17:34Speaker 2: old line like the whole game, like just I got
- 17:38Speaker 2: so much respect for those guys man, so with without
- 17:41Speaker 2: any question, I gotta give those boys their credit. Like
- 17:46Speaker 2: you said, they kept Josh clean. We ran for over
- 17:49Speaker 2: two hundred and forty yards, Like you don't understand how
- 17:53Speaker 2: impressive that is in the NFL game, Like it's so
- 17:56Speaker 2: hard to do it, don't so to to do it,
- 18:00Speaker 2: and do it on the road Weather Weather game where
- 18:04Speaker 2: we knew we're gonna have to we was gonna have
- 18:06Speaker 2: to run the ball to So yeah, old line, you guys,
- 18:13Speaker 2: great week. Let's keep it going. The dogs Alex and
- 18:18Speaker 2: Alec Anderson dog.
- 18:19Speaker 1: And Ryan Dog two dogs.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Connor McGovern dog dog Dog side Bowl. My Louisiana brother
- 18:32Speaker 2: is a dog like those those boys. They did, They
- 18:36Speaker 2: did their work this week. Let's keep it rolling. We
- 18:40Speaker 2: gotta keep it rolling, man, because if we keep it
- 18:42Speaker 2: rolling and the old line get more Dogs of the week,
- 18:44Speaker 2: that's are happening. Good things are happening in December and
- 18:49Speaker 2: January football when the Old Line get Dog of the week.
- 18:52Speaker 2: We know we're working. We're working, We're working with Grease,
- 18:54Speaker 2: so were good. These guys are some dogs, man. Let's
- 18:59Speaker 2: keep it rolling this week. I'm looking forward to it though.
- 19:02Speaker 2: It's gonna be a good.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Well, speaking of some dogs, let's hear from Alec Anderson
- 19:06Speaker 1: and Ryan Vandamark. We got Ryan Vandermark and Alec Anderson
- 19:10Speaker 1: joining us for this episode. Guys, thanks for being on,
- 19:14Speaker 1: Thanks for having us. You guys are some superstars.
- 19:18Speaker 4: No, I wouldn't say all that.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think so. I think. So let's recap the epic
- 19:23Speaker 1: game against the Steelers. Left tackle Dion Dawkins and right
- 19:27Speaker 1: tackle Spencer Brown go down with injuries. You find out
- 19:30Speaker 1: you two are starting in their places. When you find
- 19:34Speaker 1: out this news, what did you say to each other?
- 19:39Speaker 5: Vandy told me he was like, we're just gonna go
- 19:41Speaker 5: have fun, and I was like, all right. And so
- 19:43Speaker 5: every time we were out there, but before every snap,
- 19:47Speaker 5: Vandy was looking at me across the huddle and had
- 19:49Speaker 5: this smile on his face and he was kind of
- 19:52Speaker 5: giggling each play.
- 19:53Speaker 4: And so I was just excited to be out there
- 19:54Speaker 4: with my boy. Yeah, No, it made everything a lot better.
- 19:57Speaker 5: It made everything a lot easier to go out there
- 19:59Speaker 5: and your pass block.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Okay, thinking like you're gonna have some fun out there.
- 20:05Speaker 1: You're stepping in for two great starters who you guys
- 20:09Speaker 1: get to learn a lot from. You're going up against
- 20:12Speaker 1: the top five defensive line in the Steelers. Not an
- 20:15Speaker 1: easy task. What approach did you want to take once
- 20:18Speaker 1: the game started?
- 20:20Speaker 6: Just kind of that smash mouth football kind of mentality,
- 20:23Speaker 6: you know, I mean, just Bill's traditional football. Run the ball,
- 20:27Speaker 6: put your hands on people, drive him down the field,
- 20:31Speaker 6: and just have fun with it. And I think Alec
- 20:33Speaker 6: and bodies at really well, especially stepping in.
- 20:36Speaker 4: And I mean you can see the film. I mean,
- 20:38Speaker 4: I think you did a great.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Job smash mouth football. Alec. You are playing right tackle
- 20:42Speaker 1: against the Steelers. You haven't played tackle since your college season,
- 20:47Speaker 1: so no big deal. Go in there and block TJ. Watt,
- 20:50Speaker 1: one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. You
- 20:52Speaker 1: don't just block him, you don't allow a sack, and
- 20:55Speaker 1: the rushing offense goes off for two hundred and forty
- 20:58Speaker 1: nine yards. What was your mindset through it all?
- 21:02Speaker 5: My mindset was pretty even throughout the whole thing. I
- 21:04Speaker 5: was trying to just the entire week, like Vandy said,
- 21:07Speaker 5: like we're really emphasizing this whole smash mouth football type deal.
- 21:11Speaker 5: But for myself, like my little internal battle, if you
- 21:15Speaker 5: call it, that was more of like trying to keep
- 21:17Speaker 5: everything simplified and very the same. Don't think too much
- 21:21Speaker 5: differently of you know, just because I'm at tackle, like
- 21:24Speaker 5: coach Krumer does a great job of keeping everything very
- 21:27Speaker 5: simple for us. And so if it's you know, the
- 21:30Speaker 5: same technique at left guard as it is at right tackle,
- 21:33Speaker 5: then you know, I can kind of transform and kind
- 21:36Speaker 5: of trans translate my play into each position as I did.
- 21:40Speaker 5: You know this Sunday, you.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Go up against an incredible defensive lineman in TJ. Watt
- 21:45Speaker 1: against the Steelers more than one hundred sacks in his career,
- 21:51Speaker 1: How did you make sure to stay level headed like
- 21:53Speaker 1: you said, throughout the matchup?
- 21:55Speaker 5: It was a really I got to credit the guys
- 21:59Speaker 5: who gave me a chip the entire game. The wide receivers,
- 22:03Speaker 5: the tight ends, and the running backs. All of them
- 22:06Speaker 5: did a phenomenal job to where I didn't really have
- 22:09Speaker 5: to worry about anything since they were doing a great
- 22:12Speaker 5: job just busting this guy in the ribs, and so
- 22:14Speaker 5: like going out there on the pass sets, I knew
- 22:17Speaker 5: that I could set as fast as I could and
- 22:20Speaker 5: only just had to worry about, you know, getting off
- 22:22Speaker 5: on time and changing his past past pass rush lane.
- 22:26Speaker 5: And so they did a great job by helping me
- 22:29Speaker 5: really stay calm by just delivering and doing their job
- 22:33Speaker 5: every time they were asked.
- 22:33Speaker 4: To do it.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You guys ran two run plays quite a bit in
- 22:37Speaker 1: that game. You go to the huddle and you hear
- 22:40Speaker 1: duo again, duo again. We're doing duo again, Vandy. When
- 22:45Speaker 1: you heard that call over and over and over again,
- 22:50Speaker 1: what were your thoughts?
- 22:52Speaker 6: Honestly, I just thought it was kind of comical, you know,
- 22:55Speaker 6: just hearing the play over and over again.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I was like, all right, here we go. They know
- 22:58Speaker 4: what we're running, we know what we were running.
- 22:59Speaker 6: They know we're run the rock, and we're just gonna
- 23:01Speaker 6: go out there and run the same play and execute
- 23:04Speaker 6: it better than they can.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Watching this guy Alec Anderson go up against TJ. Watt
- 23:09Speaker 1: snap after snap, were you thinking to yourself what got
- 23:14Speaker 1: into this guy?
- 23:16Speaker 2: Nah?
- 23:16Speaker 6: I mean, I mean, if you know at Lick in
- 23:19Speaker 6: the style that he plays, you know, he plays like
- 23:21Speaker 6: a dog, So I mean going out there and then
- 23:23Speaker 6: I would just see him come back to the to
- 23:25Speaker 6: the huddle each snap, and I know that he already
- 23:28Speaker 6: went out there and put his hands on somebody and
- 23:29Speaker 6: you know, put him in the dirt. So I means
- 23:32Speaker 6: he has a great repertoire. I don't even know if
- 23:35Speaker 6: that's the word. He has a great history of doing
- 23:37Speaker 6: that as the jumbo tight end. So getting his chance
- 23:40Speaker 6: to go out there and play tackle, which is honestly
- 23:42Speaker 6: pretty much similar to a jumbo tight end. I knew
- 23:45Speaker 6: he was up for the task, and I knew that
- 23:47Speaker 6: he would do.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Great alec in your preparation. What gave you the confidence
- 23:50Speaker 1: that it wasn't gonna be a big deal to do
- 23:53Speaker 1: that for sixty minutes.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Yeah, it helped out having Ryan and then also Spencer
- 23:58Speaker 5: as well helping me out through the entirety of the week.
- 24:01Speaker 5: And so Wednesday and Thursday we kind of all stayed
- 24:04Speaker 5: and watched the extra tape together and Vandy was giving
- 24:07Speaker 5: me some pointers on like oh, like I would kind
- 24:09Speaker 5: of recommend trying this or when they're here. I know
- 24:12Speaker 5: that this technique has kind of helped me when I've
- 24:14Speaker 5: when I've applied it, and Spencer as well in the
- 24:16Speaker 5: past game has helped me out a lot of just
- 24:19Speaker 5: kind of knowing your angles and using really kind of
- 24:22Speaker 5: some geometry out there at times to sit there and
- 24:25Speaker 5: be like, all right, this guy is on a about
- 24:27Speaker 5: a thirty two degree angle, like I'm gonna have to
- 24:30Speaker 5: take this set, and so kind of transforming that into okay,
- 24:34Speaker 5: he's here, I'm gonna just set this way and know
- 24:35Speaker 5: where the quarterback spot is at. Like that was kind
- 24:37Speaker 5: of my progression throughout the week, and Vandy and Spencer
- 24:40Speaker 5: really helped me out.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Using mathematics to play football.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Huh, you wouldn't.
- 24:44Speaker 5: You wouldn't think so, right, But at some point a
- 24:47Speaker 5: little bit not too much hints of it.
- 24:50Speaker 1: We heard after the game Vandy that James Cook texted
- 24:53Speaker 1: the both of you before the game and said, Hey,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I trust you guys. I believe in you. Fandy, How
- 24:59Speaker 1: did that help you feel, righty?
- 25:00Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 25:01Speaker 6: I mean Jimmy's a great leader. I mean before my
- 25:03Speaker 6: first start last season against the Chiefs kind of did
- 25:05Speaker 6: the same thing. Came up to me in the locker room,
- 25:07Speaker 6: was like, hey, man, I believe in you.
- 25:08Speaker 4: I love you.
- 25:08Speaker 6: And God do great. And hearing that from Jimmy, I
- 25:11Speaker 6: mean it's awesome. You know, he's the best run back
- 25:14Speaker 6: in the league. So him coming up to me and
- 25:16Speaker 6: Ali and texting us and let us know that he
- 25:18Speaker 6: has our backs, I mean it means a lot.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Alec, I saw you got a big hug from Josh
- 25:22Speaker 1: Allen after the game, after you guys solidified the victory.
- 25:25Speaker 1: What was the best response you got after you guys
- 25:28Speaker 1: come off the field.
- 25:30Speaker 5: I think the best response was just probably from Josh.
- 25:35Speaker 5: And then also it was really like I guess the
- 25:38Speaker 5: mantra of everybody on the sideline was just after every drive,
- 25:42Speaker 5: whether in the beginning when we threw an interception or
- 25:45Speaker 5: we had to punt, and then once we started scoring
- 25:47Speaker 5: and getting a little bit more traction, the guys are
- 25:50Speaker 5: just always coming up to me or whether it was
- 25:52Speaker 5: Vandy and just saying like good job, like you guys
- 25:54Speaker 5: got this, like just keep going, like keep grinding, you know,
- 25:58Speaker 5: just very encouraging words on the sideline and a lot
- 26:02Speaker 5: of positive energy, which I think kind of helped us
- 26:04Speaker 5: feed into the success that we had.
- 26:06Speaker 6: Oh yeah, you can definitely feel the juice coming off
- 26:08Speaker 6: the sideline after you drive.
- 26:09Speaker 4: I mean, it was awesome. It was great.
- 26:11Speaker 1: How much did your floone blow up after the game? Fandy?
- 26:14Speaker 6: I mean, I had a bunch of texts from friend's
- 26:16Speaker 6: family just saying that I see you out there, or
- 26:19Speaker 6: saying I played a great game, and you know it's
- 26:21Speaker 6: it's cool.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I mean, obviously from my parents, but it was pretty cool.
- 26:27Speaker 1: We heard from offensive coordinator Joe Brady that pregame he
- 26:30Speaker 1: thought James Cook had a look in his eye that
- 26:32Speaker 1: said he's about to go off. Well, James Cook rushes
- 26:35Speaker 1: for one hundred and forty four yards, Alec, When you're
- 26:37Speaker 1: running duo, it's a lot on the running back to
- 26:41Speaker 1: see the field. What is it about Cook's ability to
- 26:45Speaker 1: see the field that is better than anything you've been around.
- 26:49Speaker 5: He embodies the entire Muhammad Ali comment or quote perfectly.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Float like a butterfly, sting. I could be that kid.
- 26:56Speaker 5: He when he is getting the ball, he's flowing and
- 27:01Speaker 5: you know, we like to press the hole and kind
- 27:02Speaker 5: of bounce runs and stuff like that. And so he
- 27:04Speaker 5: does a great job of giving the offensive line and
- 27:08Speaker 5: a time to set up the block and kind of
- 27:10Speaker 5: get to our man. And then also he does a
- 27:13Speaker 5: great job of kind of guiding back to where he
- 27:15Speaker 5: feels something is open, and then once he sees a hole,
- 27:17Speaker 5: he's putting his foot down and running through it. And
- 27:20Speaker 5: I think that kind of showed with it. It was
- 27:23Speaker 5: the Tampa Bay game that dude ran through somebody's face,
- 27:26Speaker 5: and so it's just it's awesome to see. I love
- 27:28Speaker 5: when Jimbo gets out there and he just has a
- 27:31Speaker 5: handful of freaking smelling salts and it's just taking him
- 27:34Speaker 5: right before the snap and goes out there and just
- 27:36Speaker 5: runs downhill.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Every time, Vandy, we hear that James Cook's energy on
- 27:41Speaker 1: the sidelines is incredible and it really helps out the
- 27:44Speaker 1: entire team. When he comes off of the field after
- 27:47Speaker 1: hitting a huge run. What does it do for the
- 27:50Speaker 1: group as a whole.
- 27:50Speaker 6: I mean, it's contagious, that energy. I mean you can
- 27:52Speaker 6: feel it. It's it's awesome. I Mean, he comes off,
- 27:56Speaker 6: he's excited, you know, he's he's happy for the whole line,
- 27:58Speaker 6: and it's just awesome.
- 28:00Speaker 1: It gets the boys going, gets the boys going. I
- 28:03Speaker 1: love to hear that your success against the Steelers isn't
- 28:06Speaker 1: the only chapter to your story with the Buffalo Bills. Vandy,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you and Alec, come in here as undrafted free agents
- 28:13Speaker 1: in your third and fourth seasons. Alec, I'll go to
- 28:16Speaker 1: your first. How have you grown the most since becoming
- 28:19Speaker 1: a Buffalo Bill.
- 28:20Speaker 4: I've grown a lot.
- 28:21Speaker 5: I think that my maturity has grown since I've been here,
- 28:25Speaker 5: but also kind of my style of play as well.
- 28:28Speaker 5: I think that I've always had a physical kind of
- 28:30Speaker 5: caliber to my game of just wanting to go out
- 28:32Speaker 5: there and smash somebody, but also kind of diving deeper
- 28:35Speaker 5: into the x's and o's, and David Edwards and coach
- 28:39Speaker 5: Kromer and Austin Gunn do a great job with us.
- 28:42Speaker 5: I'm kind of teaching us the grand scheme of things
- 28:45Speaker 5: rather than just like, all right, it's his own play
- 28:48Speaker 5: block zone, Dallshaw, not get my face cross like all
- 28:51Speaker 5: that stuff since you've been playing pee wee football, but
- 28:54Speaker 5: they kind of want to break you out of your
- 28:56Speaker 5: comfort zone and make sure that you're actually understanding the
- 28:59Speaker 5: offense and it's entire incontrances instead of just like going
- 29:04Speaker 5: out there and knowing, oh, I just ball every Sunday.
- 29:07Speaker 1: When you look at your game, Vandy, what areas have
- 29:09Speaker 1: you leveled up in?
- 29:12Speaker 6: I would say kind of the same thing Alex said,
- 29:13Speaker 6: But like coach Chrome does an awesome job with technique.
- 29:17Speaker 6: I mean you come here and right off the rip,
- 29:20Speaker 6: I mean, the technique might be a little different from
- 29:21Speaker 6: something you've ever done before, but you come here, you
- 29:25Speaker 6: learn the technique, and then you go out there and
- 29:28Speaker 6: it's like surprising. You're like, oh, this works, and it
- 29:31Speaker 6: just kind of like Alex said before. You know, the
- 29:33Speaker 6: goals make everything simpler and easier for us five up there,
- 29:36Speaker 6: and it all works. I think my game has evolved,
- 29:41Speaker 6: I mean drastically since since college coming here, especially in
- 29:45Speaker 6: my past that's getting comfortable, learning a lot from Spencer
- 29:47Speaker 6: and Dion. I think that pretty grateful to be on
- 29:50Speaker 6: a team with two good tackles who actually care about
- 29:53Speaker 6: how their backups perform and how their backups handle themselves.
- 29:57Speaker 2: So pretty lucky, Alex.
- 30:00Speaker 1: You talk about maturing and growing here and how you
- 30:04Speaker 1: play smash mouth football. I think that's something that's stayed
- 30:06Speaker 1: consistent since you've been here. Is that smash mouth style
- 30:10Speaker 1: of football? Yes, where does that come from?
- 30:13Speaker 5: It just comes from wanting to be aggressive. Just I
- 30:17Speaker 5: don't know, it's just my life kind of how I
- 30:20Speaker 5: grew up. My dad was a big kind of combat
- 30:24Speaker 5: sports guy, and so his dad was in the military,
- 30:27Speaker 5: and we grew up with a big philosophy of like
- 30:29Speaker 5: either move or die, and so big thing is always
- 30:33Speaker 5: just good. You got to keep moving, You got to
- 30:35Speaker 5: move that guy in front of you. If not, they're
- 30:36Speaker 5: trying to get back there and mess things up and
- 30:40Speaker 5: really hurt your people that you're protecting. And so for me,
- 30:42Speaker 5: it's a game of like pride as well. I don't
- 30:46Speaker 5: want the people that we're protectors' offensive linement. And so
- 30:49Speaker 5: your job is to protect that guy. And if you
- 30:51Speaker 5: don't do your job, then it's like, you know, a
- 30:53Speaker 5: little bit of a stab at you as a man.
- 30:56Speaker 5: So I kind of like to.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Hold that up.
- 30:59Speaker 1: You guys are blocking for the best rushing offense in
- 31:02Speaker 1: the NFL right now, averaging more than one hundred and
- 31:05Speaker 1: fifty yards per game. Vandy. What's been one of the
- 31:08Speaker 1: biggest factors behind the success?
- 31:11Speaker 4: I mean, coach Chrome one hundred percent.
- 31:13Speaker 6: I mean every Wednesday, were come into the building and
- 31:17Speaker 6: he's got the game land down and we go through
- 31:19Speaker 6: the runs and how we're going to scheme up this
- 31:21Speaker 6: this style of defense, and each week different inter constancies
- 31:24Speaker 6: like Alec was saying, but yeah, I mean just coming
- 31:27Speaker 6: into the building and seeing what's going to be different
- 31:29Speaker 6: in this week that we didn't do last week, Or
- 31:32Speaker 6: how are we going to move this guy out of
- 31:33Speaker 6: the box. How we're gonna put this guy in the box.
- 31:35Speaker 6: And I mean, it's it's awesome to see because you know,
- 31:38Speaker 6: it's very, very slight things can make a your dramastic
- 31:42Speaker 6: change in how you play the game.
- 31:44Speaker 1: So you guys are more than just football players. You
- 31:47Speaker 1: are two goofy dudes, Vandy six seven, three hundred pounds
- 31:52Speaker 1: and you surf. Yeah, make it make sense.
- 31:55Speaker 6: I just got into it when I was young, tall
- 31:58Speaker 6: and skinny, So I mean I got into it when
- 32:01Speaker 6: I was like thirteen on the Jersey shore, and uh,
- 32:03Speaker 6: I mean I love it.
- 32:04Speaker 4: It's stuck with me like ever since.
- 32:06Speaker 6: I mean, I I found the shaper to shape me,
- 32:09Speaker 6: shape me some boards when I got over three hundred pounds.
- 32:12Speaker 3: The biggest surf board.
- 32:14Speaker 6: Those things can float me. They're more thick than long.
- 32:17Speaker 6: But I mean, yeah, I go on. I try to
- 32:19Speaker 6: go on like at least two trips in the off season.
- 32:21Speaker 6: So looking forward to it. I got my own little
- 32:24Speaker 6: surfing families that I kind of kind of joined with
- 32:26Speaker 6: and it's great. It's great vibe and I love it. It
- 32:28Speaker 6: gets re mind off things. It's therapeutic.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Would Alec Anderson ever join in on the surf family
- 32:33Speaker 1: got it?
- 32:34Speaker 6: I mean he's got He's from California, you know he's
- 32:36Speaker 6: got that. Yeah, he's got to get in on it.
- 32:39Speaker 4: He will.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Have you ever boogey boarded or anything?
- 32:44Speaker 5: I've been surfing like twice, I got up on my
- 32:47Speaker 5: first try Athletes Yeah, no, I mean it was like
- 32:51Speaker 5: three seconds and then I jumped off. But other other
- 32:55Speaker 5: than that, I love body surfing a lot, and then
- 32:58Speaker 5: boogey boarding is fun as well, even though my wife
- 33:01Speaker 5: and I almost died in a Hawaii trying to go out.
- 33:03Speaker 4: There and surf in the waves.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Yeah it was.
- 33:06Speaker 4: It's it's a good time. I enjoy the ocean a lot.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Once you became an NFL player, Bandy, did surfing get harder?
- 33:14Speaker 6: I mean yeah, because you got to keep on the weight.
- 33:16Speaker 6: I mean most surfers, you know, you're skinny and your
- 33:18Speaker 6: light and you can just flying on that wave. But yeah,
- 33:20Speaker 6: it definitely became harder too, because uh, I mean my
- 33:23Speaker 6: dad was like, you can't go out there and get hurt.
- 33:25Speaker 6: I don't want your surfing is a reef break or
- 33:27Speaker 6: is it a sandburry like beach break?
- 33:28Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 33:29Speaker 6: So like usually with the reefs, you know, you gotta
- 33:31Speaker 6: gotta take a chill. You bounce off that reef, you
- 33:33Speaker 6: can seriously get hurt. So yeah, but yeah, it's definitely
- 33:36Speaker 6: got harder. I maybe had to think twice about going
- 33:40Speaker 6: down a wave that's a little a little bigger and uh,
- 33:43Speaker 6: and think twice about my body.
- 33:44Speaker 1: So yeah, Alec, did you know that Fandy was a
- 33:48Speaker 1: baby model back in the day.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Yes, you're a surfer. You're a model kid.
- 34:00Speaker 2: You do.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Shout out to my mom. I mean she slid early.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Early. Are you going to go back into modeling after
- 34:06Speaker 1: your NFL career?
- 34:07Speaker 6: Oh yeah, he is, yeah, right right when football is over.
- 34:11Speaker 6: You know, cut this weight down so that yeah, and
- 34:15Speaker 6: we're going right, we're jumping right back where we left off.
- 34:18Speaker 1: And Alec, are you going to turn into a professional
- 34:20Speaker 1: off roader after your NFL career? That's that's what you love.
- 34:24Speaker 5: To do, right, Yeah, No, that's that's my wife and
- 34:26Speaker 5: I plan. We want to get a Mercedes sprinter van
- 34:29Speaker 5: and drive around the US and then take it slow
- 34:33Speaker 5: and end up on a ranch about ten to fifteen acres.
- 34:36Speaker 1: All right, Vandy and Alec, thanks for coming on inside
- 34:38Speaker 1: the Charge telling us all about the story behind the
- 34:41Speaker 1: Steelers game. We appreciate you, guys.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Thank you appreciate it.
- 34:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 34:44Speaker 1: We hope you enjoyed that interview with Alec Anderson and
- 34:47Speaker 1: Ryan Vandermark. There was some big news in LSU college
- 34:51Speaker 1: football this week, and we got to talk about it
- 34:53Speaker 1: because Trey is an LSU brad. LSU hired Lane Kiffen,
- 34:57Speaker 1: the former Ole Miss coach who led the Rebels to
- 35:00Speaker 1: an eleven wins season this year, spent six years there
- 35:03Speaker 1: and overall in his college coaching career a pretty good
- 35:06Speaker 1: win percentage. What are your thoughts on this higher.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I feel like we strug it. I feel like we
- 35:12Speaker 2: I feel like we knocked it out the park grand Slam.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I just know just from watching football and uh, just
- 35:22Speaker 2: watching him be the offensive coordinator when I was playing again,
- 35:27Speaker 2: when I was at l s U, and he was
- 35:28Speaker 2: at Alabama when he had Amari Cooper, when he had
- 35:31Speaker 2: some dogs, when he had let's get the name of
- 35:35Speaker 2: Derick Henry bad players which you and he schemed them
- 35:40Speaker 2: open to get one in a year where we knew
- 35:44Speaker 2: Amari Cooper was getting the ball, it didn't matter like
- 35:48Speaker 2: he was lining him up in the backfield, dying the
- 35:51Speaker 2: outside inshide and Mamari Cooper was the best player in
- 35:54Speaker 2: the in the in the in the in the nation
- 35:57Speaker 2: that year. I see what he did with it? Dojimore
- 36:01Speaker 2: and old miss put him in the backfield outside it said,
- 36:07Speaker 2: I I'm just I'm just excited to see what he do,
- 36:10Speaker 2: what he does with all the players he's gonna be
- 36:13Speaker 2: able to get.
- 36:13Speaker 1: He's a good recruiter too.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yes, that just l s U like you. It's not
- 36:19Speaker 2: much you have to do to sell people to come.
- 36:22Speaker 3: To the Death Valley.
- 36:24Speaker 2: One, twelve hundred and ten, ten thousand. We're going to
- 36:29Speaker 2: stay there.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I've never been to a game, It's not it's a
- 36:31Speaker 1: bucket list, bucket list thing for me to go to
- 36:33Speaker 1: a to go to a night game at LSU.
- 36:36Speaker 2: You've never been to a game there.
- 36:37Speaker 1: No, I've never been to a game there. I've been
- 36:42Speaker 1: to Bama, I've been to Georgia, worked that Tennessee. So
- 36:45Speaker 1: you went to Missoo.
- 36:47Speaker 2: What you're waiting on?
- 36:48Speaker 1: Kentucky Florida.
- 36:50Speaker 2: What are you waiting on Auburn? Okay, what have you
- 36:53Speaker 2: heard about a night game.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I've just heard the environment is crazy. I've heard it's
- 36:58Speaker 1: hard to win there. As an oppos was in team
- 37:00Speaker 1: coming into Death Valley at night, I heard the fans,
- 37:04Speaker 1: you're crazy, your dream's.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Gonna come to die. You heard coach Miles this back
- 37:08Speaker 2: in the day. Yeah, and it's true. It never rains
- 37:13Speaker 2: in Death Valley. We used to we we used to
- 37:17Speaker 2: bring the tiger out and sit him by the opposing
- 37:21Speaker 2: The real tiger might sit him by the opposing team's
- 37:24Speaker 2: locker room. So when they run out big.
- 37:27Speaker 1: That's why you were playing there.
- 37:29Speaker 2: They did it, they they I think they stopped doing it,
- 37:33Speaker 2: maybe twenty fifteen, twenty fourteen, but I remember, like when
- 37:37Speaker 2: I was getting recruited, like that was a big thing.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Like they used to parade Mike around like before the
- 37:42Speaker 2: game in this cage and they'll sit him there when
- 37:46Speaker 2: the opposing team come come out.
- 37:49Speaker 7: And that's scary, Like it's nothing even even a two
- 37:53Speaker 7: thirty game like kickoff and there, like it's just like
- 37:58Speaker 7: it's nothing like it like it's gonna be feeled.
- 38:01Speaker 2: The crowd is gonna they're gonna say some some of
- 38:04Speaker 2: the most disrespectful stuff to the opposing team and coaches,
- 38:09Speaker 2: Like I've heard it all, Like you can just look
- 38:12Speaker 2: it up on YouTube, Like you could just look it
- 38:14Speaker 2: up like an LSU game at night daytime. It don't matter,
- 38:17Speaker 2: like it's rocket the most turned. But back to I
- 38:23Speaker 2: just feel like his offensive mind, like the way he
- 38:27Speaker 2: can move guys around and put him in position to
- 38:29Speaker 2: score points. And you're gonna get the best talent. So
- 38:32Speaker 2: it's gonna be you're gonna be able to just take
- 38:35Speaker 2: all these different pieces and orchestrate this offense that you
- 38:38Speaker 2: already have and just use your mind, your imagination to
- 38:42Speaker 2: use all these talented players to so much space on
- 38:45Speaker 2: the field, spread it out, running. Everything's gonna be at
- 38:50Speaker 2: his disposal. Then at LU, you're gonna get the defensive players.
- 38:55Speaker 2: You're gonna get the cornerbacks. They want to come are
- 38:59Speaker 2: who said they? I don't know. I mean, you look
- 39:02Speaker 2: it up, you tell me the best, you line them
- 39:04Speaker 2: up cornerback for corner back.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I know when you were there it was DBU, but
- 39:07Speaker 1: I don't know how things have changed.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Look up the thought finding this in right now, we
- 39:11Speaker 2: got wound up there right now, it's gonna win the
- 39:13Speaker 2: thought this year. Okay, So you line any any university
- 39:17Speaker 2: up corner for corner for the last twenty years, let's
- 39:21Speaker 2: say twenty fifteen years. I'm taking us anybody college and
- 39:29Speaker 2: pro career. I believe it both.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Oh andthro that's good too.
- 39:33Speaker 2: And we're still doing it too though. That's the thing, Like,
- 39:35Speaker 2: we still have guys doing it. So I just think
- 39:39Speaker 2: with the talent that he's going to get, the coaches
- 39:42Speaker 2: that he's going to have around them, and the people
- 39:45Speaker 2: that he have to help him recruit the players. I mean,
- 39:48Speaker 2: in a recruited cycle, if we getting thirty players of
- 39:51Speaker 2: twenty eight twenty five players, twenty of them gonna be
- 39:54Speaker 2: from Louisiana, and then you're gonna get three or four
- 39:57Speaker 2: from Florida, two or three from Texas. Then you have.
- 40:01Speaker 1: One over there and maybe one Alabama.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we don't really try to go in
- 40:07Speaker 2: their backyard and get their players. They try to come
- 40:09Speaker 2: and get off, you know. But I just think that
- 40:13Speaker 2: with an offensive mind like that, with the resources he's
- 40:16Speaker 2: going to have, like it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 40:19Speaker 2: so much success that I feel because when you have
- 40:22Speaker 2: a mind like this and you have the talent that
- 40:24Speaker 2: he's going to have and be able to move them
- 40:26Speaker 2: around in the n i L League of today where
- 40:29Speaker 2: you can just the great players, and he's he's at
- 40:32Speaker 2: l s U. He's gonna be able to pay whoever he.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Needs that donor money that.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Don't give me some of that you want me to donate?
- 40:42Speaker 1: Okay? I was one of the one of the questions
- 40:45Speaker 1: for fans this week was does trade donate to the
- 40:48Speaker 1: n i L money?
- 40:50Speaker 2: Yeah? Man, Look, I'm gonna tell you right now, L
- 40:55Speaker 2: s U billion dollars. You just.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Give the holy moment and then what they gave just
- 41:01Speaker 1: be a college coach, you'll make so much money.
- 41:03Speaker 2: And then what you what they gave coach Brian Kelly
- 41:06Speaker 2: to leave ine what they gave you know, Tiger, they
- 41:14Speaker 2: don't need nothing from today. Like I can tell you
- 41:16Speaker 2: that my little change is not gonna help a thing.
- 41:20Speaker 2: So I'm gonna keep it over here A three three
- 41:24Speaker 2: of white family. Oh my, I gotta keep that money.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I gotta keep that money in house. Shoo, don't need
- 41:29Speaker 2: money for me.
- 41:30Speaker 1: He's raising some dvus.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Do you see it? Do you see the facilities down there.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Do you see everything? I guarant lis you ain't hurt
- 41:39Speaker 2: for no change. No, man, they don't need nothing from
- 41:41Speaker 2: me nothing. So look, I go down there and give
- 41:46Speaker 2: him a pep talk, go show up and go work
- 41:48Speaker 2: out with him.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's worth everybenny.
- 41:50Speaker 2: You know, give him some raisin canes. You know, when
- 41:53Speaker 2: I was in college, you know, you know, you get
- 41:54Speaker 2: a little raisin canes. Little there's little Caesars five five
- 41:58Speaker 2: and fined all the pieces, so you know, something like that.
- 42:01Speaker 2: But as far as donating thousands and tens of thousands
- 42:04Speaker 2: of dollars, I don't know. It'll be a cold day
- 42:08Speaker 2: in Hell, man, you don't. I don't think Hell had
- 42:12Speaker 2: a cold day. So you know what that means. I
- 42:15Speaker 2: don't know about that. And il it is different. They
- 42:18Speaker 2: don't need no money from me. Yeah, they don't need
- 42:20Speaker 2: no money from me. I think they're pretty good. I'll
- 42:22Speaker 2: show up down.
- 42:23Speaker 1: There, you know, show support, that's sure.
- 42:26Speaker 2: You know. I even I even bring my LSU degree,
- 42:29Speaker 2: show the guys. You know they can get they you know,
- 42:31Speaker 2: stay graduate. You know, I got my still have my
- 42:34Speaker 2: cap and gown and stuff.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Wow.
- 42:36Speaker 2: But yeah, but as far as donating, I donate my time,
- 42:42Speaker 2: but they green you got. I got to keep that.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's so funny. All right, Well, I
- 42:48Speaker 1: think we might be turning some Bills fans into LSU
- 42:51Speaker 1: fans with the amount of time we're spending talking about LSU.
- 42:54Speaker 1: But hey, it's a passion for you, and it was
- 42:57Speaker 1: in the news like crazy this week with the lank
- 43:00Speaker 1: and higher. But we have some questions from our fans
- 43:03Speaker 1: that we want to ask you, So we'll wrap up
- 43:05Speaker 1: with a few questions. Bill's Mafia Babes wants to know
- 43:10Speaker 1: did you finally find some more absorbent socks?
- 43:15Speaker 2: So we're still in this stock thing? You know how
- 43:17Speaker 2: cold it look?
- 43:18Speaker 1: You said it once.
- 43:19Speaker 2: It's been it's been a few it's been a few,
- 43:21Speaker 2: about a month, few months since those toad sweat. Toad
- 43:24Speaker 2: sweat like that.
- 43:25Speaker 1: They don't sweat like that.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Nah, not so much. But since since that, since that
- 43:34Speaker 2: episode aired, a lot of people have reached out. I
- 43:37Speaker 2: know I had at one point, Dionne Sanders reached out.
- 43:40Speaker 2: He wanted he wanted me, He wanted to send me
- 43:42Speaker 2: some of those hot top tubesot they used to hot
- 43:45Speaker 2: step in. Maybe I need to go back on that
- 43:48Speaker 2: and try to try to get those tub socks man,
- 43:51Speaker 2: so I can get some of it, some of their
- 43:52Speaker 2: prime time juice. But the trainer, Nate, somebody, one of
- 43:58Speaker 2: his friends has a sock company, sent the big box
- 44:01Speaker 2: in so I was able to get some of those.
- 44:03Speaker 2: So I would say being that you know, HBO, they they,
- 44:10Speaker 2: you know, put that out there by my socks on video.
- 44:13Speaker 2: But it came with a lot of rewards too. The
- 44:15Speaker 2: people see my struggle, what I go through and camp
- 44:17Speaker 2: that in. Look a lot of socks. But I probably
- 44:21Speaker 2: need to get those prime time tools. So then look
- 44:24Speaker 2: you see this, Look I still want to I need
- 44:26Speaker 2: that package. I still need that package playoff time. I mean, look,
- 44:29Speaker 2: we getting into these games down down the wire. Now
- 44:32Speaker 2: if I'm looking like baby Deon out there, now, hey,
- 44:35Speaker 2: that could be good for the Bill. So he's now,
- 44:40Speaker 2: I let you right now, right now, I need some
- 44:44Speaker 2: of those prime time tools. You know, the people is asking,
- 44:47Speaker 2: you know what I mean, I'm a showcase that you know.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Okay, next question, West Michigan. Bill's backers bar wants to
- 44:54Speaker 1: know what's your favorite pregame snack?
- 44:57Speaker 2: Hm hmm pre game. I'm honestly, I don't have a
- 45:03Speaker 2: pregame routine of something that I have to have before
- 45:07Speaker 2: every game. But I would say, like I'm a like
- 45:10Speaker 2: eater before the game, Like I don't like to eat
- 45:12Speaker 2: much because I feel like I like to be like light.
- 45:16Speaker 2: So I don't like to go into the game feeling
- 45:19Speaker 2: a little heavy. So I maybe get some eggs, you know, waffle,
- 45:26Speaker 2: maybe one square off a waffle. I definitely got to
- 45:29Speaker 2: have some fruit, so I got it strawberries, blueberries, pineapples,
- 45:34Speaker 2: some orange juice with some ice, Like I gotta have
- 45:36Speaker 2: the ice with the orange juice.
- 45:37Speaker 1: That's to go to.
- 45:40Speaker 2: So it's not a big breakfast or not, like not
- 45:42Speaker 2: a not a huge you know routine on what I
- 45:45Speaker 2: have to have to eat. But I was I give
- 45:47Speaker 2: you a little background what I did in Pittsburgh for
- 45:51Speaker 2: twenty five kickoff. We had a ten ten o'clock wake
- 45:55Speaker 2: up call. I didn't make. This is what I do
- 45:59Speaker 2: with that was I put take the phone off the hook, Maddie,
- 46:02Speaker 2: leave it off the hook. I didn't come out of
- 46:05Speaker 2: my room one time that that morning, I mean that morning.
- 46:09Speaker 2: So I didn't eat breakfast. So it was like a
- 46:11Speaker 2: brunch that I had before before the game.
- 46:13Speaker 1: It worked.
- 46:14Speaker 2: I mean small samples, little eggs, some potatoes, some fruit,
- 46:20Speaker 2: orange juice for ice, you know. And I sat there
- 46:23Speaker 2: and I had had a light little snack before I
- 46:26Speaker 2: had to go to the field, but nothing that I
- 46:29Speaker 2: have to have. But each and every game is different
- 46:32Speaker 2: depending on you know, what time we play. So we
- 46:34Speaker 2: have a one o'clock game, it's gonna be it's gonna
- 46:37Speaker 2: be very limited on what I eat because, like I said,
- 46:43Speaker 2: waking up, getting here, everything is rushed one o'clock games,
- 46:46Speaker 2: so you gotta you gotta get it on it. So no,
- 46:50Speaker 2: I don't have a a pre game routine on what
- 46:54Speaker 2: what I need to eat, but I always try to
- 46:56Speaker 2: keep it pretty like though.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Okay, last question, Bill's Notified says you're my favorite player,
- 47:00Speaker 1: so I want to know who is your favorite player?
- 47:03Speaker 1: Growing up?
- 47:06Speaker 2: That's I mean, honestly, if we just get into the
- 47:11Speaker 2: background of myself, I was a basketball like. I was
- 47:14Speaker 2: a basketball guy like, so football was always secondary for me.
- 47:18Speaker 2: I played it because I wanted to be around my
- 47:20Speaker 2: older brother and I was just I could play a
- 47:22Speaker 2: little bit. But basketball first, love, first, passion first, everything.
- 47:26Speaker 2: So I never had a favorite player like in the NFL,
- 47:32Speaker 2: growing up because like I wasn't really watching the NFL,
- 47:36Speaker 2: but my my God brought brother Morris Clayborne. He really
- 47:45Speaker 2: was the reason why I really started watching NFL, just
- 47:49Speaker 2: because I really knew somebody on a personal level that
- 47:53Speaker 2: was playing, so like I had to tune in and
- 47:56Speaker 2: see what he was doing. So like that's the reason
- 47:59Speaker 2: why I really started watching it. But he was I
- 48:03Speaker 2: would say he's my favorite. He was my favorite player
- 48:05Speaker 2: because he motivated me in ways like growing up, in
- 48:10Speaker 2: ways to where it's like he laid this blueprint of
- 48:14Speaker 2: how to get to a place of success, and I
- 48:18Speaker 2: sort of followed it because he was coming from the
- 48:21Speaker 2: same background, sort of background of as where I was
- 48:23Speaker 2: coming from, facing the same kind of struggles or or
- 48:30Speaker 2: things he had to go through to or maneuver through
- 48:32Speaker 2: to get there. So and were we were in the
- 48:36Speaker 2: same city. We played on the same AU team. He
- 48:39Speaker 2: played on the older team and I played on the
- 48:41Speaker 2: younger team. And guys used to always joke with him,
- 48:44Speaker 2: but like, man, this little dude looked like you. He
- 48:46Speaker 2: always following you around, and he was the best player
- 48:49Speaker 2: on the team and on the on the smaller team.
- 48:51Speaker 2: I was the best player on the team. So it
- 48:52Speaker 2: was like a lot of similarities. But I was able
- 48:55Speaker 2: to watch this guy like excel at everything that he did.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I mean, like it didn't matter what it was, football, basketball, track.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Like in basketball his freshman year, like he took the
- 49:09Speaker 2: team to the state championship. They want a state championship,
- 49:12Speaker 2: and then football like quarterback, he moved from receiver to quarterback,
- 49:17Speaker 2: like was able to showcase his talents, like similar things
- 49:20Speaker 2: that I had to go through. So but over the time,
- 49:23Speaker 2: like I may have met him when I was like
- 49:25Speaker 2: six or seven years old, but over that time, like
- 49:27Speaker 2: we developed a friendship in the bond that has that
- 49:31Speaker 2: we still have. So I was able to see him
- 49:34Speaker 2: go from high school to college and I'm in middle
- 49:36Speaker 2: school watching him go through it. And I was able
- 49:39Speaker 2: to watch him go from college to the NFL, and
- 49:42Speaker 2: along the way he told me everything to what to
- 49:46Speaker 2: expect at every level, what I need to do to
- 49:49Speaker 2: get there, like what to stay away from, what to do,
- 49:53Speaker 2: what not to do. And he didn't have to do
- 49:55Speaker 2: that even when I was in high school. When he
- 49:58Speaker 2: was in college, they used to have these football camps.
- 50:03Speaker 2: LSU had the football camps, the high school football councilhere,
- 50:05Speaker 2: you know. So I used to go down there, and
- 50:07Speaker 2: you know, the camp was like maybe for three or
- 50:08Speaker 2: four days, but I used to stay three or four weeks,
- 50:11Speaker 2: two or three weeks with him in his dorm while
- 50:15Speaker 2: he's still going through regular schedule going through summer school.
- 50:17Speaker 1: But you're seeing how it's done.
- 50:19Speaker 2: I'm seeing everything. I'm seeing all this like like as
- 50:22Speaker 2: a young guy, I'm thirteen, fourteen years old, but inspiring
- 50:25Speaker 2: to be where he's at. But me just watching, I'm
- 50:29Speaker 2: getting up with him going to the workouts, watching sitting
- 50:31Speaker 2: in and workout, watching the whole team work out in there,
- 50:34Speaker 2: and I'm sitting there like, okay, this was gonna take
- 50:37Speaker 2: seeing how intense to work out, the weight training was,
- 50:40Speaker 2: seeing how tis out the outside conditioning conditioning training was like,
- 50:45Speaker 2: so I was like, this is what I have to
- 50:47Speaker 2: do to get to where I want to go. And
- 50:49Speaker 2: our connectioning is strong like it was in his wed
- 50:52Speaker 2: and like it's just like our conditions go back. So
- 50:55Speaker 2: the brother to me, But uh yeah, long response to
- 50:58Speaker 2: your question, but yeah, more and my favorite and those
- 51:02Speaker 2: are the reasons. Some of the reasons just minicures, just
- 51:05Speaker 2: some of the reasons why. But some of them I
- 51:08Speaker 2: got to keep to myself because you know, you know,
- 51:10Speaker 2: that was a personal personal situations. But great guy like
- 51:14Speaker 2: look him up if you don't know, great athlete, like
- 51:17Speaker 2: one of the highlights, one of the best cornerbacks in
- 51:20Speaker 2: LSU history, you know.
- 51:23Speaker 1: So yeah, how cool. That is such a great story
- 51:26Speaker 1: and thanks for sharing that with us. And it's so
- 51:28Speaker 1: awesome that you had that type of mentor in your
- 51:30Speaker 1: life because a lot of people don't have someone like
- 51:32Speaker 1: that to look up to and to follow and look
- 51:35Speaker 1: at what happened to you. You did so much, I
- 51:38Speaker 1: think because of the way that he showed you the way,
- 51:42Speaker 1: which is awesome. A lot of that you had to
- 51:44Speaker 1: do on your own too, but it's very cool that
- 51:46Speaker 1: you had somebody to show the way. So that's awesome.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Thanks Trey, and that wraps up our episode for this week.
