- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hello, everyone, Welcome back to another episode of Star Wars.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Light's your Home on geek Ultimate Lives podcast network for
- 0:26Speaker 2: any you don't think Star Wars your host as always
- 0:30Speaker 2: Katie and with me like always, It's Clay, Clay. How
- 0:34Speaker 2: are you doing today?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I'm doing all right. I as you saw. I saw you.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Take a look at my Instagram stories. Procrastination is the
- 0:49Speaker 3: word of the week, not just the word of the day.
- 0:54Speaker 3: It was bad. It was bad this week, and I
- 0:58Speaker 3: blame myself, of course, but I also put a little
- 1:01Speaker 3: blame on Abby.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And.
- 1:09Speaker 3: So she blames herself a little bit also for the
- 1:14Speaker 3: reason being she left her purse in her cabinet at
- 1:22Speaker 3: work an hour and a half away last week. She
- 1:26Speaker 3: only goes into work one time a week, and so
- 1:30Speaker 3: we had to drive her to work on Monday. Monday
- 1:34Speaker 3: is my day off where I, excuse me, spend a
- 1:40Speaker 3: majority of the day, usually doing my reading for whateverthing
- 1:46Speaker 3: we are doing each week. And I didn't get to
- 1:49Speaker 3: do any reading because I had to entertain Amberlin for
- 1:53Speaker 3: literally an entire day. Because we didn't drive all the
- 1:56Speaker 3: way back home, we had to stay in the town
- 2:00Speaker 3: on that Abby worked in and all of that. So yeah, uh,
- 2:06Speaker 3: it was, it was, it was, it was, it was.
- 2:08Speaker 3: It was bad this week. Uh, procrastination was really bad.
- 2:11Speaker 3: And so I sped read this entire book, had no
- 2:17Speaker 3: time to do any highlights, uh, and literally finished the
- 2:23Speaker 3: last two words the second I clicked on inter studio here.
- 2:30Speaker 2: See, I brought my physical copy out, but I didn't
- 2:33Speaker 2: touch it, and I listened to it twice instead.
- 2:36Speaker 3: See, I did hybrid. I listened to it and I
- 2:39Speaker 3: read it physically, and then I was like, it's two
- 2:42Speaker 3: time speed and I am still reading faster than this book.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So I needed to turn this off because it's distracting me.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And then I read like an extra like six chapters
- 2:53Speaker 3: and I was like, Okay, I think I have enough
- 2:55Speaker 3: time to just relax and listen to the ending of
- 2:58Speaker 3: the book. And that's what I did all the way
- 3:00Speaker 3: up until literally seven twenty eight.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Welcome, yeah, welcome to the group of procrastinations. Yes, the
- 3:14Speaker 2: blanket that I have been working on for the past
- 3:15Speaker 2: three months. It's supposed to go to my friend tomorrow.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I finished it this morning.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Amazing, amazing. Yeah, And then of course we still have
- 3:27Speaker 3: our reading for next weekend or this upcoming weekend, and uh.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Is it this weekend? It's next weekend?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Is it next weekend? It's the twenty second Oh thank god?
- 3:40Speaker 3: Okay cool. I was like, wait, wait, okay, I am.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I am doing a little bit better on this one.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I'm on chapter twenty.
- 3:51Speaker 3: See I am still on like chapter ten, so I yeah, dude,
- 3:57Speaker 3: I'm gonna do more reading tomorrow and I will be
- 4:02Speaker 3: on track and ready to go. So we should be good.
- 4:07Speaker 3: We should be good. I'm good, We're good, but bay,
- 4:13Speaker 3: but we do have some news guys before we jump
- 4:20Speaker 3: into the more relevant stuff. Some like I guess honorable
- 4:27Speaker 3: mentions that like was kind of like a nothing burger,
- 4:30Speaker 3: So I'm gonna go ahead and share it here. In
- 4:32Speaker 3: the first few minutes mostly uh, the the developers of
- 4:39Speaker 3: Knights of the Old Republic remake made an update quote unquote,
- 4:45Speaker 3: and all they said was it's being worked on. That's
- 4:48Speaker 3: all we can say. And that's it, like literally, that's
- 4:52Speaker 3: the big update. And I'm just like, are you freaking
- 4:54Speaker 3: getting me? Like this? This could have this could have
- 4:57Speaker 3: just waited until you actually had something to act, could
- 4:59Speaker 3: have for real, for real, but that's basically it. And
- 5:05Speaker 3: then I need to do my own research on it,
- 5:08Speaker 3: but I saw on Twitter and I shared it with
- 5:12Speaker 3: some of the guys on the geek First discord. There
- 5:18Speaker 3: is apparently a canceled Star Wars game that is now
- 5:24Speaker 3: like somehow available to actually play. On Twitter, it says
- 5:31Speaker 3: here a canceled Star Wars video game made by LucasArts
- 5:34Speaker 3: is now playable thirteen years after being scrapped. Watched seventy
- 5:38Speaker 3: six minutes of gameplay and learn about the surprising release here.
- 5:43Speaker 3: And it has an actual like link to an article.
- 5:49Speaker 3: I didn't have any time this week to look into it,
- 5:52Speaker 3: but I bookmarked it and I'm gonna check it over
- 5:54Speaker 3: the weekend and of course on my day off next
- 5:56Speaker 3: Monday and see what all of this is about so
- 6:00Speaker 3: we can report back next week. Yeah yeah, but that's
- 6:08Speaker 3: pretty much it for like the Blair news.
- 6:12Speaker 2: But the secondary news.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Exactly, yeah, exactly exactly. I want to say, like the
- 6:20Speaker 3: first like big news, but also like there's nothing really
- 6:28Speaker 3: too much to talk about. Is what you shared via
- 6:31Speaker 3: Instagram with me? Is the cover release?
- 6:38Speaker 2: I would have called this. I would have said the
- 6:39Speaker 2: grogrou thing is secondary Blair?
- 6:42Speaker 3: Oh really? Okay, okay, Well let's rewind scrap that. Let's
- 6:45Speaker 3: go to the secondary blad news because you are you
- 6:50Speaker 3: are right. There's some stuff in here also that has
- 6:53Speaker 3: nothing to do with Mandalorian Grogu. But let's go ahead
- 6:57Speaker 3: and talk about this. Of course, I I I I
- 7:01Speaker 3: fell victim of wanting to show you guys some clickbait
- 7:05Speaker 3: on our thumbnail. So I do apologize. But our title
- 7:10Speaker 3: does say the Mandalorian Grogu shocking spoiler, and all it
- 7:16Speaker 3: is there's this, there's this interview with a Variety with
- 7:20Speaker 3: Kathain Kennedy, and Kennedy spoils the movie for us by
- 7:26Speaker 3: saying the Mandalorian and Grogu Grogu a ka. Baby Yoda
- 7:33Speaker 3: does not speak a single word throughout the entire film.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Well, at least that takes away from the are you
- 7:43Speaker 2: my daddy question?
- 7:45Speaker 3: Yeah, like like and and But the thing is, I
- 7:49Speaker 3: think this is going to be a question until he
- 7:52Speaker 3: finally does talk. Yeah, and my question.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Which is sad. But it's the fact that he's a
- 8:00Speaker 2: main character, like Chewey, Yes, could he be considered a
- 8:04Speaker 2: main character, yes, but like he was more a side character.
- 8:10Speaker 2: But chewe he talks, I guess that's true. Like he
- 8:15Speaker 2: talks treewook and then he's translated.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's translated by other people, so we get
- 8:20Speaker 3: the gist of what he says. We don't really understand
- 8:23Speaker 3: what he says. Now. Of course, if you actually look
- 8:27Speaker 3: behind the scenes, you actually know that the suit actor
- 8:32Speaker 3: actually does talk his lines in English, and then of
- 8:37Speaker 3: course it's dubbed with the actual Chewbacca voice or whatever.
- 8:42Speaker 3: So I'm curious. I'm genuinely curious if Felony has ever
- 8:48Speaker 3: really thought about, like just making Grogu a mute character.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be interesting to find out, like if
- 9:02Speaker 2: it's just like he just doesn't talk in general, or
- 9:05Speaker 2: whether it's trauma related, like because the dude has been
- 9:10Speaker 2: through some shit, to say the least, So I could
- 9:15Speaker 2: see it either way. I don't blame them for not
- 9:19Speaker 2: having him talk. I think it keeps the character interesting.
- 9:22Speaker 3: It does, It definitely does. Now. I will say, there
- 9:26Speaker 3: is famously characters that are mute due to trauma and
- 9:33Speaker 3: then like their first word spoken is like a huge
- 9:37Speaker 3: monumental moment. You can look at characters from comic books
- 9:43Speaker 3: to even animated films. I don't know if you are
- 9:45Speaker 3: a fan of Lamb Before Time, but Spike.
- 9:52Speaker 2: No, it has been a hot minute since I've seen
- 9:54Speaker 2: led before.
- 9:55Speaker 3: It's literally literally as I was talking, it literally came
- 10:00Speaker 3: up and I was like, holy crap, that is a
- 10:01Speaker 3: movie that that that exact thing happens. He is traumatized
- 10:05Speaker 3: by all the things that happened in the very first movie.
- 10:08Speaker 3: He doesn't speak, and then he yells ducky for the
- 10:13Speaker 3: very first time. I can't remember in the very last
- 10:17Speaker 3: of the or something or but it's a huge moment
- 10:21Speaker 3: and you're like, oh my gosh, he talks so like
- 10:24Speaker 3: I I wonder if they are thinking of that moment
- 10:27Speaker 3: for Grogu or if they have decided, hey, maybe this
- 10:33Speaker 3: is just somebody who doesn't need to talk talking about
- 10:44Speaker 3: voice actors. Guys, if you have been around this week,
- 10:51Speaker 3: we found out that the Super Mario Brothers movie, the
- 10:55Speaker 3: second movie, Yoshi, is being voiced by freaking Donald Glover himself,
- 11:01Speaker 3: freaking Lando Calrissian.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, exact for not being on Twitter, I don't
- 11:07Speaker 2: know any of this stuff.
- 11:08Speaker 3: So, like, the thing is, like I found.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Out the Lanterns trailer. Lanterns trailer came out last week.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I like it was a preview before the pitch. I
- 11:20Speaker 2: hadn't seen anything about it.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Oh that's hilarious. Poor Katie, we have not been keeping
- 11:25Speaker 3: you updated. I'm so sorry.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I don't blame y'all, Like nobody needs to text me
- 11:31Speaker 2: all of these things and listen Star Wars related exactly.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, But the thing is like, are we gonna
- 11:39Speaker 3: get Chris Pratt as Grogu? You know like that, like
- 11:42Speaker 3: like we I'm scared. I am scared when they finally
- 11:47Speaker 3: decide who's gonna be Grogu's voice? Is it gonna be
- 11:51Speaker 3: bred Lean Cooper? Is it gonna be Chris Pratt? Is
- 11:53Speaker 3: it gonna be This just so out of pocket choice
- 11:59Speaker 3: that we're just like, oh no, you know.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Well, okay, So here's a question for you. When Slash,
- 12:08Speaker 2: if Grogu ever talks, what's your dream casting voice for that?
- 12:16Speaker 3: My dream casting can no longer voice act because of
- 12:20Speaker 3: his stroke.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Was it tom.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Uh the one who voiced uh yoa Wars?
- 12:34Speaker 2: See? I don't know if I would have picked him.
- 12:36Speaker 3: But see, the beautiful thing about voice acting is that
- 12:40Speaker 3: voice actors have range, so you you don't necessarily have
- 12:44Speaker 3: to choose, Oh you have to have a Yoda like voice? No, yeah,
- 12:49Speaker 3: but if you had the voice actor who was Yoda
- 12:53Speaker 3: voice Grogu and just change it up a bit. That's
- 12:56Speaker 3: also a very like, just heartwarming thing. If not him,
- 13:06Speaker 3: which of course he has retired, he hasn't done any
- 13:09Speaker 3: work since. I would recommend you guys look at Sam Regal.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Sam Regal is a voice actor who has done things
- 13:24Speaker 3: for the Young Jedi Adventures. He has also done things
- 13:33Speaker 3: for Spider Man. He is a very known voice actor.
- 13:38Speaker 3: He's actually part of a group called Critical Role, and
- 13:46Speaker 3: he also has a Critical Role also has an animated
- 13:50Speaker 3: series on Amazon and currently in one of the shows
- 13:57Speaker 3: on Amazon, he is voicing a goblin and I'm like
- 14:05Speaker 3: a female guy. He is voicing a female goblin, which
- 14:09Speaker 3: I think is awesome, and I'm just like, boom, he
- 14:13Speaker 3: needs to be Grogu. It would be a little high pitched,
- 14:17Speaker 3: a little scratchy like you wouldn't hear because we all
- 14:21Speaker 3: look at him and we think of Yaddle, and we
- 14:25Speaker 3: think of Yoda, and we look at those voices. Those
- 14:29Speaker 3: are older voices. We need to remember this is going
- 14:33Speaker 3: to be a quote unquote child. Yeah, like if he
- 14:37Speaker 3: grows up and he has the voice of the little
- 14:40Speaker 3: Fox from Freaking Zouotopia. That's like freaking like, oh she
- 14:45Speaker 3: got you good. Like if he has that type of voice,
- 14:48Speaker 3: I'm scared for my life, you know, like he needs
- 14:52Speaker 3: to have some sort of like playful child is voice.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I can't see him with a deep voice, like for
- 14:58Speaker 3: his first words it's terror final.
- 15:02Speaker 2: But like, so even though he's younger, we've got to
- 15:06Speaker 2: remember to the species mature different. Right, so he's ste
- 15:11Speaker 2: years old.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I was gonna say he's fifty plus years old right now.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so like wookies, Wookies are like considered adults at
- 15:18Speaker 2: like thirty, so he could still be adult and not
- 15:23Speaker 2: and not necessarily be high pitch. So like I'm kind
- 15:28Speaker 2: of feeling, oh my gosh, what's his name? It's the
- 15:32Speaker 2: Superman from Superman and Lewis Tyler Hovas.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Uh Hecklin, Tyler Hecklin.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, whys he spells it weird?
- 15:43Speaker 3: So it's it's it's he it's h o e uh
- 15:50Speaker 3: c h l e i O enter like some weird
- 15:53Speaker 3: like yeah, this.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Guy, yeah Tyler Hoakland. And don't know why I feel
- 16:00Speaker 2: like he has he could do the voice of like
- 16:06Speaker 2: not middle aged.
- 16:07Speaker 3: But like now that you say that are they just
- 16:09Speaker 3: gonna pick Sam Sam? Wait? Where are they just gonna
- 16:16Speaker 3: are they?
- 16:17Speaker 2: Are they just gonna hope not?
- 16:19Speaker 3: I really hope not. I genuine they don't like I understand,
- 16:26Speaker 3: I get it, but I I I don't want him.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I would rather if you wanted to stick within Star
- 16:33Speaker 2: Wars like current Star Wars people, I would honestly rather
- 16:38Speaker 2: have Mark Hamill and have Mark Hamill.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And like, like that's how you keep Mark Hammel Star Wars.
- 16:54Speaker 2: But like I love Sam, don't get me wrong, but
- 16:59Speaker 2: like that get the spotlight with mal and like do
- 17:03Speaker 2: all these other things, like let the man focus on
- 17:06Speaker 2: one character.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I think this has to be I'm gonna have to
- 17:10Speaker 3: ask the g u A and geek Verse discord, who
- 17:14Speaker 3: is your ideal voice actor for Grogu in the future.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll have to do that and then we'll have
- 17:21Speaker 2: to talk about it more next week.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Okay, cool, cool, cool, But yeah, that's guys. That's basically
- 17:28Speaker 3: tell us.
- 17:30Speaker 2: You can tell us on Blue Sky and Instagram who
- 17:33Speaker 2: you think should be cast for the vocal role of
- 17:37Speaker 2: Grogu If you had to pick somebody, who would you pick?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Can tell us on Blue Sky and Instagram or threads
- 17:44Speaker 2: at Star Wars Alliance without the eight and the worst
- 17:46Speaker 2: very important, don't forget it, or to choose an email
- 17:49Speaker 2: that same user name at gmail dot com.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Now, the last, the last bit of this article does
- 17:58Speaker 3: talk about Dave Filoni, because there's a lot of people,
- 18:01Speaker 3: of course, that were very including us, hesitant at him
- 18:07Speaker 3: being a part of, you know, the leadership and making
- 18:10Speaker 3: a lot of the key decisions and everything else. And
- 18:13Speaker 3: basically Kennedy is saying that in I don't know why,
- 18:19Speaker 3: my first like thoughts of this were just like, oh,
- 18:23Speaker 3: so they groomed him to be the president. It's it's
- 18:27Speaker 3: a it's a it's a weird choice of words, but
- 18:29Speaker 3: basically saying that, she says here, I spent ten years
- 18:35Speaker 3: talking to Dave into gradually stepping into the live into
- 18:38Speaker 3: live action, saying that it's really been a ten year
- 18:41Speaker 3: mentoring process for both of them altogether, with both him
- 18:46Speaker 3: and Linwin, and so like this isn't just a run
- 18:52Speaker 3: of the mill, like, hey, I'm leaving, let's just roll
- 18:55Speaker 3: the dice and see who gets the role. They have
- 18:58Speaker 3: been training these two people for the past ten years,
- 19:02Speaker 3: so hopefully those decisions.
- 19:06Speaker 2: That is.
- 19:10Speaker 3: That looks so depressing you like you you put a
- 19:15Speaker 3: gray scale on that. It is the most depressing fighting
- 19:19Speaker 3: that like save.
- 19:21Speaker 2: The Pets from the Kill Shelter commercial.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Oh no, Katie, no oh, that's so funny, Matt. You
- 19:33Speaker 3: captured that moment perfectly. Man. But yeah, that's basically it
- 19:40Speaker 3: for this article. But I guess the next bit of news, Katie,
- 19:47Speaker 3: if you want to share it what we said on Instagram,
- 19:58Speaker 3: So real.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Quick finishing Mandelorian Grogu. So the official writers of the
- 20:04Speaker 2: film are John Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Noah kore Uh.
- 20:09Speaker 2: The Writers Guild of America has vetted all of the
- 20:12Speaker 2: work done and has decided that Noah gets uh some
- 20:16Speaker 2: credits uh for it. Core head. Uh has been a
- 20:23Speaker 2: part of the Mandovers writer's room for a few years.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It was first credited for the Book of bul Buffet,
- 20:29Speaker 2: where he was listed as a staff writer for all
- 20:32Speaker 2: seven episodes in the Book of Buffett. He also co
- 20:36Speaker 2: wrote uh Mandalorian season three, episode three, The Convert. So
- 20:46Speaker 2: it's cool tidbit just to go, okay, hey we have
- 20:48Speaker 2: somebody other than Filoni and Fabra writing. Sorry, I just
- 20:51Speaker 2: saw that.
- 20:53Speaker 3: No, no, no, that's all good. It's all good.
- 20:57Speaker 2: So the next piece of news, guys. As you all know,
- 21:03Speaker 2: we both loved Reign of the Empire Maskafere when that
- 21:09Speaker 2: came out, and we have steadily been waiting for the
- 21:14Speaker 2: cover in synopsis for Edge of the Abyss, which is
- 21:18Speaker 2: book two in that series, and it's written by Rebecca Ronehors,
- 21:22Speaker 2: which we're gonna be talking about her first book for
- 21:24Speaker 2: Star Wars tonight after we finish this. And obviously, guys,
- 21:32Speaker 2: the synopsis is widely available now. But just in some context,
- 21:39Speaker 2: this book takes place one year before season one of
- 21:43Speaker 2: and Or, and it looks like the main character in
- 21:49Speaker 2: this one, like how we had Mon Mathma kind of
- 21:52Speaker 2: as the main voice in Maska Fear, the main one
- 21:55Speaker 2: in this one looks to be Saugarrera. Potentially he's at
- 22:02Speaker 2: he I'm gonna share my screen for the cover actually,
- 22:13Speaker 2: so uh, he's center stage on the cover. And then
- 22:17Speaker 2: we have bail Organa and Leap. It looks like between
- 22:21Speaker 2: the E and the M of Empire we have luthan
- 22:25Speaker 2: Ryel as well, and then Man Mathma at the end
- 22:28Speaker 2: of the word Empire on here. There's a lot more
- 22:33Speaker 2: imperial style officers and stormtroopers on here. But there is
- 22:38Speaker 2: one character, uh that you had asked me about, uh, Clay,
- 22:43Speaker 2: and it's this guy at the end of Rain. Saw
- 22:49Speaker 2: is in the middle, by the way, I think I
- 22:51Speaker 2: said that already. But and then Luther is Uh at
- 22:55Speaker 2: the beginning of Rain. So this guy at the end
- 22:58Speaker 2: of Rain, I wonder if this is the guy who
- 23:03Speaker 2: was potentially captured that man Mathma and Bail are trying
- 23:08Speaker 2: to save according to the synopsis. Because I don't recognize
- 23:13Speaker 2: this guy.
- 23:14Speaker 3: No, I don't recognize him either. That's why I was
- 23:17Speaker 3: so confused. I was like, I know exactly who everybody
- 23:20Speaker 3: else is. I love how like the cover in itself
- 23:27Speaker 3: like shows that they are all in the thick of it.
- 23:30Speaker 3: They are behind possibly behind enemy lines in the majority
- 23:35Speaker 3: of this story and random outlier I like screenshotted it,
- 23:40Speaker 3: circled it a couple of times. I was like, who
- 23:42Speaker 3: in the world is this? And I am I'm curious
- 23:46Speaker 3: to see, like how this book really does turn out.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I have not you know who that is? Who is that?
- 23:54Speaker 2: That's Anto Krieger? Yeah, there you go. Oh that's not it.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Hang on share share screen, just share the window. This
- 24:17Speaker 2: is stupidly complex. That's Creaker I don't know why I
- 24:22Speaker 2: didn't put that together.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Oh okay, that is literally like verbatim, like suit and all.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Well yeah, okay, so.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Yeah, And I put that together because I was rereading
- 24:38Speaker 2: the synopsis and it says leaders like Sawgerea and Anto
- 24:43Speaker 2: Kreeger squabble and bargain, and I was like, oh wait,
- 24:47Speaker 2: that's Creaker.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Oh so yeah it.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I feel like I feel like Saw is kind of
- 25:02Speaker 2: the main vocal character in this one, and then potentially
- 25:07Speaker 2: the last one, which is gonna be written by Fran
- 25:10Speaker 2: wild Uh, will be maybe Bail because they were the
- 25:16Speaker 2: three title characters, and so I wonder if Fran's gonna
- 25:21Speaker 2: hit us with the heartbreak again and have like the
- 25:25Speaker 2: epilogue b Bale's point of view on alder On as
- 25:29Speaker 2: the death Star kind of lights them up. I'm gonna
- 25:33Speaker 2: sob if that's the case.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Oh no, I can see it, though, I can.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Totally see it because we have Brady's point of view,
- 25:44Speaker 2: we don't have Bails. Anyways, This synopsis, guys, is widely available,
- 25:53Speaker 2: if you guys want to go check that out. This book,
- 25:59Speaker 2: I believe is Timber fifteenth.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Yes, I want to say one week after Abby's birthday.
- 26:08Speaker 3: That's why I remembered.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so September fifteenth is a Tuesday, So yeah, that's right.
- 26:16Speaker 2: But I love the cover. Is hit me with the feels,
- 26:20Speaker 2: just like those highlights on the rebellion leaders, just like
- 26:28Speaker 2: being those focal points, but then having all in the shadows.
- 26:32Speaker 2: You have the Empire, you have Imperial officers, you have stormtroopers.
- 26:36Speaker 2: It's really just it.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah, And I do. I do like the idea of
- 26:42Speaker 3: Sauw being the focal point here because we only have
- 26:49Speaker 3: a small handful of stories within Star Wars canon that
- 26:54Speaker 3: really show his perspective and we can all assume his
- 27:01Speaker 3: standpoint his ideology by the actions that we see from
- 27:05Speaker 3: an outward appearance. Seeing it from within is going to
- 27:10Speaker 3: be the crazy thing, right yep. And so that's why
- 27:14Speaker 3: I think this book is going to possibly take the
- 27:18Speaker 3: cake for me. We know that throughout all of the Rebellion,
- 27:23Speaker 3: Saul is seen as the terrorist, he is the radical one,
- 27:30Speaker 3: and just with the high tensions of real life events
- 27:36Speaker 3: and everything else, it's going to be very interesting to
- 27:40Speaker 3: see that type of viewpoint and I'm excited for it.
- 27:45Speaker 3: I'm super excited for it.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I really am too. And because we were talking about like, oh,
- 27:51Speaker 2: like I was beginning to think this book no longer
- 27:55Speaker 2: existed kind of thing. And I really do think that
- 28:00Speaker 2: they probably they probably didn't map out exactly when these
- 28:05Speaker 2: books were going to take place, and so when Rebecca
- 28:08Speaker 2: probably drew her outline, she was like, Okay, I'm ended
- 28:10Speaker 2: up super close to and Or mm hmmm. So they
- 28:14Speaker 2: we know that originally these were supposed to be it
- 28:17Speaker 2: was spring twenty twenty five, Spring twenty twenty six, Spring
- 28:21Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven, and then it got pushed back to
- 28:23Speaker 2: where this one is now fall twenty twenty six. It
- 28:26Speaker 2: probably was that delay from and Or season two. We
- 28:30Speaker 2: they were like, Okay, we got to see how the
- 28:32Speaker 2: sins yeah, and then we can kind of move forward
- 28:35Speaker 2: from there, so hopefully we get to see it.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Yeah. I think that is true with all the players
- 28:48Speaker 3: that we do legitimately see on the cover of this book.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Everybody played a part in YEA that and Or season two,
- 28:56Speaker 3: So I could very much see this having to be
- 29:00Speaker 3: delayed and saying, hey, like, we don't want to step
- 29:03Speaker 3: on any toes. We like, again, I hate to acknowledge
- 29:09Speaker 3: Travis's words, everything is cannon until it's not. But the
- 29:15Speaker 3: books truly play on every other piece of media, so
- 29:23Speaker 3: they have to stay true to it. And if that's
- 29:25Speaker 3: the way they're going to roll, then they had to
- 29:27Speaker 3: wait for and Or And I'm totally fine with that.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Oh all right, Well is that everything for the news?
- 29:49Speaker 2: I so.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Okay. Well, if that is the case, we are going
- 29:57Speaker 3: to move on to our main topic, which is Star
- 30:04Speaker 3: Wars Resistance Reborn. I got this physical copy from Katie herself.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I got to reorganize all of my Star Wars books
- 30:17Speaker 3: the other day, and I even noticed that I'm missing
- 30:20Speaker 3: some and when I when I when I when I
- 30:25Speaker 3: say I'm missing some, it's it's high Republic stuff. But
- 30:28Speaker 3: I literally only have one row of post high Republic
- 30:39Speaker 3: books for Cannon. I have to get a new shelf already.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I have to get like this is scary, This is
- 30:47Speaker 3: so scary, Like, why do I have so many Star
- 30:51Speaker 3: Wars books? Katie? What have you done to me?
- 30:54Speaker 2: You're welcome.
- 30:56Speaker 3: It's It's a lot. It's a lot. I I I
- 31:00Speaker 3: love you for it. I genuinely do like.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I like.
- 31:04Speaker 3: You. Making me a reader has made this household a
- 31:09Speaker 3: reader friendly household, like amber Lyn loves to read. I
- 31:13Speaker 3: got abby into reading, even if it's just audiobooks for
- 31:17Speaker 3: right now, like we we have genuinely had more reading
- 31:22Speaker 3: than we've ever had before. And I genuinely appreciate it.
- 31:25Speaker 2: See, because I grew up, I care welcome. Oh. I
- 31:29Speaker 2: grew up and I was homeschooled from second grade to
- 31:33Speaker 2: eighth grade. And part of our day growing up was
- 31:38Speaker 2: we basically dedicated an hour to reading and we would
- 31:44Speaker 2: all sit down, my mom, my, three siblings, and I
- 31:49Speaker 2: and we would all talk about the book we were
- 31:50Speaker 2: about to read, and we would all say the chapter
- 31:53Speaker 2: that we were about to start, and a lot of
- 31:55Speaker 2: times it would be born and be like, oh, chapter thirteen,
- 31:59Speaker 2: and you'd like, David, give your chapter title. What slackers
- 32:03Speaker 2: like that? But we literally I used to tell people
- 32:08Speaker 2: like when I was homeschool I would read three hundred
- 32:10Speaker 2: to four in books a year, and it was because
- 32:12Speaker 2: we dedicated that hour a day to reading, and I
- 32:14Speaker 2: would read other times a day. So I love it.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I'm so happy when other people can't appreciate the gloriousness
- 32:21Speaker 2: that is reading a book.
- 32:24Speaker 3: But this, uh, this book written by Rebecca roan Horse,
- 32:33Speaker 3: takes place immediately immediately, kind of almost immediately after the
- 32:42Speaker 3: Last Jedi.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got a year between the Last Jedi and
- 32:48Speaker 2: the Rise of Skywalker, and this is taking place relatively
- 32:52Speaker 2: close to the Last j.
- 32:57Speaker 3: And I was reading this and mid and I wouldn't
- 33:01Speaker 3: say midway, I would say about twenty five percent into
- 33:05Speaker 3: the book, I'm like, are they about to contradict the
- 33:10Speaker 3: big moment of the Rise of Skywalker? Are they about
- 33:15Speaker 3: to really contradict that moment of like all hope is
- 33:19Speaker 3: lost and nobody's answering post call like type of thing.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Can I'm like, all of these people are literally basically
- 33:30Speaker 3: the people who show up at the end of the movie, so.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Like, right, but at the end of the book, right,
- 33:38Speaker 2: Poe and Finn and everybody else are like, Hey, we've
- 33:43Speaker 2: got to basically start over. We've got to go see
- 33:46Speaker 2: rebellions on basically individual worlds and rebuild what we were
- 33:52Speaker 2: trying to do here. And so that's where all these
- 33:55Speaker 2: people are. And that's why the phone call takes so long,
- 34:00Speaker 2: basically is because this is kind of showing you, Okay,
- 34:03Speaker 2: everybody's kind of spread out all over.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Y Yeah, And that's and that's what I mostly got
- 34:09Speaker 3: when when I finished the book.
- 34:11Speaker 2: But this.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I am so glad to say is not a Lightsaber book.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Ray is right there, right in the front cover, and
- 34:26Speaker 3: she's start here is barely in the book. She has
- 34:32Speaker 3: a small little I have a bad feeling about this moment,
- 34:36Speaker 3: and that's it. That is basically the whole purpose of
- 34:40Speaker 3: her being in this book. Now they lay some seeds
- 34:44Speaker 3: for what will be, of course, eventually the rise of Skywalker,
- 34:48Speaker 3: Leah and Ray training. We now know they are working
- 34:52Speaker 3: on a book for that whole entire training process, so
- 34:57Speaker 3: we will get even more of that, and we can
- 35:00Speaker 3: technically say like, oh, this book kind of lays the
- 35:02Speaker 3: seeds for that, which is nice. Yep. Yeah, Ray is
- 35:07Speaker 3: not really in this book, which I find kind of
- 35:11Speaker 3: like a breath of fresh air. Because Ray's story is
- 35:15Speaker 3: in the movies. We say it all the time that
- 35:18Speaker 3: we want more Ray books. Cool, want more Ray books.
- 35:23Speaker 3: This is not meant.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Transition from Poe the scoundrel, rebellious teenager pilot dude even
- 35:32Speaker 2: though he's not a teenager, to Poe the Leader. Yes,
- 35:36Speaker 2: it teaches the lessons that the movie could not to
- 35:40Speaker 2: Poe because of Carrie Fitcher's pass it.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Yes, and this book I really really enjoyed because we
- 35:51Speaker 3: see at the very end of the Last Jedi that
- 35:57Speaker 3: he has made that decision of like Okay, yeah, yes,
- 36:01Speaker 3: I tried to start a mutiny and all of this
- 36:05Speaker 3: other stuff I've learned my lesson blah blah blah. Right, yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 3: this book, it takes it even further and it goes
- 36:12Speaker 3: real deep. He's like, I messed up, I fed up,
- 36:17Speaker 3: and that mutiny was stupid, it was childish, and it
- 36:21Speaker 3: literally got people killed. M and there there's even he
- 36:27Speaker 3: goes so far into one point saying because he's gathering
- 36:30Speaker 3: all of these people to hopefully rebuild a rebellion, he
- 36:34Speaker 3: goes as far because when they question him, they're like, hey,
- 36:37Speaker 3: you're the one that has started a mutiny before, how
- 36:40Speaker 3: the hell are we gonna trust you? And he's like, hey,
- 36:45Speaker 3: if I knew that my sacrifice would save the galaxy
- 36:51Speaker 3: and help the rest of the rebellion, I would have
- 36:54Speaker 3: sacrificed my sacrificed myself ages Ago, which is really dark,
- 37:00Speaker 3: it goes it goes to a really dark place for
- 37:02Speaker 3: a quick second, and like even for a moment Finn
- 37:05Speaker 3: is like dude, like like almost like that friend that's like,
- 37:09Speaker 3: why didn't you tell us this, like if you're thinking that,
- 37:12Speaker 3: you know, dark thought, like you need support on that,
- 37:16Speaker 3: And he immediately gets support after that because everybody's like, oh,
- 37:20Speaker 3: he helped me do this, he saved our lives doing this.
- 37:22Speaker 3: He is the leader of Black Squadron bah blah blah,
- 37:25Speaker 3: here and here and here, and so he slowly gets
- 37:27Speaker 3: to see the fruits of his labor, which is really
- 37:31Speaker 3: really good for him. I do like that even though
- 37:35Speaker 3: he is in that dark spot, he immediately gets lifted up,
- 37:40Speaker 3: which I really do like. But this book I really enjoyed.
- 37:44Speaker 3: I excuse me.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I did.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Kind of like not like the fact that, like again
- 37:58Speaker 3: it's a Pope book, but like also felt kind of
- 38:01Speaker 3: left out.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that's a qualm of the book.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Is just rather short. Like that's really my only critique
- 38:13Speaker 2: for it. Is it just I feel like there's so
- 38:16Speaker 2: much more that Ronhors was capable of doing. It was
- 38:20Speaker 2: probably cut down because she's so artistic with the way
- 38:27Speaker 2: she goes about it, and like Finn, I really feel
- 38:33Speaker 2: like she could have done a lot of good with
- 38:37Speaker 2: but also knowing probably the way Rise of Skywalker was going,
- 38:43Speaker 2: if if maybe some of Finn's scenes were cut in there,
- 38:46Speaker 2: and so she was told, hey, don't do super much
- 38:49Speaker 2: with Finn. That's always the issue, like we just talked
- 38:53Speaker 2: about with right, and the Empire is messing with these characters.
- 38:55Speaker 2: You probably she probably was like, given, oh, you can
- 38:59Speaker 2: do so much with Hoe, like, but also everybody else
- 39:03Speaker 2: you may need to limit.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I was gonna say. The other big thing was that
- 39:09Speaker 3: they did like and of course this book was published.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Uh well, this is the mass market edition was published
- 39:18Speaker 3: in twenty twenty, but the actual copyright for this was
- 39:21Speaker 3: in twenty nineteen. So I don't know if this released
- 39:26Speaker 3: before or after Last Jedi.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Uh, but it was after because this is the journey
- 39:33Speaker 2: to Rise of Skywalker.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Okay, it was after Last Jedi, but before the Rise
- 39:42Speaker 3: of Skywalker.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so this was published November twenty nineteen and
- 39:48Speaker 2: about a month before the al Walker.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Yeah. So there was a lot of teasing for Rise
- 39:56Speaker 3: of Skywalker because there's a moment where like Finn and
- 39:59Speaker 3: Ray are talking and Poe walks in on them, but like,
- 40:03Speaker 3: you get nothing from that conversation. He's like, Hey, is
- 40:05Speaker 3: there's going to anything going on. They're like, oh, well,
- 40:07Speaker 3: she'll deal with it. Like it's just it's just stuff
- 40:10Speaker 3: for her. It's just like and I'm like, okay, well,
- 40:15Speaker 3: what is that even supposed to mean? Here?
- 40:17Speaker 2: Come on now, well they even try and like kind
- 40:21Speaker 2: of Ronhors kind of picks on like the like, oh,
- 40:25Speaker 2: Ray's gonna end up with one of the two male
- 40:27Speaker 2: leads kind of thing, and yeah, thinkos no, dude, we're
- 40:31Speaker 2: just friends.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Like yeah, that was that was the other thing too.
- 40:39Speaker 3: But yeah, I I think that you are correct in
- 40:42Speaker 3: the idea of this was being too short. There is
- 40:48Speaker 3: a very simple plot of Hey, in order to successfully
- 40:53Speaker 3: start rebuilding the Resistance, we need to go on three
- 40:57Speaker 3: specific missions to get this done, this done, and this done.
- 41:02Speaker 3: And the only way that we can get to this
- 41:04Speaker 3: we have to do this. And it's very goal oriented.
- 41:08Speaker 3: It's very video game like Level up type of thing. Yeah,
- 41:13Speaker 3: which is a very easy plot device to follow for readers.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Which especially with where this one was taking place. In
- 41:23Speaker 2: the publishing initiatives for each movie, basically they wanted each
- 41:28Speaker 2: book that kind of took place in those bits and pieces.
- 41:34Speaker 2: They wanted to kind of serve as an entry point
- 41:38Speaker 2: for canon and kind of be like, oh, do you
- 41:40Speaker 2: want to go see this movie? Well, here's something that
- 41:43Speaker 2: you can go read if you want that in the
- 41:45Speaker 2: timeframe that's where Bloodline was at. I think Fasmo was
- 41:52Speaker 2: another good one for that. Uh So, yeah, it was
- 41:58Speaker 2: just all like, hey, here's an entry point for you
- 42:01Speaker 2: guys into Cannon because you had like allegiance with this one.
- 42:06Speaker 2: And then you had a Spark of the Resistance, which
- 42:09Speaker 2: was a middle grade book that actually followed Ray, Finn
- 42:15Speaker 2: and Poe on a side adventure.
- 42:18Speaker 3: So okay, okay, just.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Little things where there was just they all kind of
- 42:24Speaker 2: split up and because everything was coming out kind of
- 42:27Speaker 2: like boom boom boom, everybody kind of had to split
- 42:30Speaker 2: up and go, Okay, this is the part of the
- 42:32Speaker 2: story you could tackle.
- 42:33Speaker 3: So yeah, makes sense, makes sense, But uh yeah, I.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Think, Sorry, what did you think of the all the
- 42:46Speaker 2: character kind of pulls in because you have Nora Lexley,
- 42:49Speaker 2: you have people from Bloodline, which I know we haven't
- 42:52Speaker 2: talked about Bloodline here but I have read, Yes, So
- 42:56Speaker 2: what did you think about those character polls?
- 42:59Speaker 3: Well, I was about to say the ragtag group of
- 43:03Speaker 3: heroes as Finn calls themselves in this book, I really
- 43:10Speaker 3: enjoyed because, like again, when they all gathered together for
- 43:14Speaker 3: the very first time, uh a fight breaks loose like
- 43:20Speaker 3: immediately yep, and we learn from oh, shoot what is
- 43:26Speaker 3: his name? The boy where his father had been killed
- 43:34Speaker 3: by uh oh shoot, what is her name? All of
- 43:40Speaker 3: these characters, there's so many characters in this We followed, Yes,
- 43:45Speaker 3: nas Naz had killed one of these rebels. I will
- 43:56Speaker 3: know him as soon as I see his name. I'm
- 44:00Speaker 3: looking at the Wikipedia right now.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Pacer, Pacer, Pacer Agoya. Yes, I just couldn't picture the
- 44:23Speaker 2: character apparently, so I was like, boy, what are you
- 44:26Speaker 2: talking about?
- 44:28Speaker 3: It's Pacer. We find out that his father was killed
- 44:34Speaker 3: by uh Tezan Naz and and she's kind of cold
- 44:41Speaker 3: about it, but she is a kind of like socially awkward,
- 44:50Speaker 3: like because she was a part of the First Order,
- 44:53Speaker 3: she was a part of the empire. And she says like, yeah,
- 44:57Speaker 3: I probably killed a lot of y'all's friendsh but that
- 45:01Speaker 3: was the old me. That wasn't who I am right now.
- 45:06Speaker 3: And so like we we we see, and that's the
- 45:10Speaker 3: kind of the start of the conversation where Poe has
- 45:12Speaker 3: to like really sit down and talk to everybody. But
- 45:16Speaker 3: there's a ragtag group of people there is, Like I said,
- 45:19Speaker 3: Pacer there is a freaking charth We have a whole
- 45:27Speaker 3: bunch of ye from the right exactly the Rylaf family.
- 45:35Speaker 3: We also have uh freaking who's the one that has
- 45:40Speaker 3: like the very seductive, very like sir Linda. She she's
- 45:48Speaker 3: very playful, she's very like like, you know, she's joking,
- 45:53Speaker 3: but at the same time you really don't know. And
- 45:56Speaker 3: so it's just like, are you being weird or like
- 46:00Speaker 3: is this supposed to be a little to spicy? What's
- 46:02Speaker 3: going on? Love her? There's just so many people here
- 46:09Speaker 3: that a strong hammer another one rip, you know, Like,
- 46:16Speaker 3: there's so many characters here that you're like, Okay, how
- 46:24Speaker 3: are they even going to come together and actually succeed
- 46:27Speaker 3: in all of this when they hardly even know each other?
- 46:32Speaker 3: And surprisingly they're actually able to do like everything that
- 46:36Speaker 3: they said and and and we're supposed to do. So Yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 3: I I really liked the ragtag group of characters. I
- 46:47Speaker 3: will be completely honest. Ransom, is it the sinator.
- 46:58Speaker 2: The senator for Bloodline?
- 47:01Speaker 3: Okay, it was Bloodline. I was gonna say, I recognize
- 47:05Speaker 3: the name. The audiobook pronounces the name differently from Bloodline
- 47:14Speaker 3: to this, which.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Is funny because it's the same narrator.
- 47:19Speaker 3: It's the same narrator, but castfo is how they pronounced
- 47:24Speaker 3: it in Bloodline, okay, and then in this name or
- 47:28Speaker 3: in this book, they pronounced it castro fae, and so
- 47:34Speaker 3: I was I was like, I'm confused, now is this
- 47:38Speaker 3: the same person or is it not? But yeah, it's
- 47:42Speaker 3: the exact same.
- 47:43Speaker 2: It's been a while since I've read the Bloodline. So
- 47:46Speaker 2: I did not have that problem.
- 47:49Speaker 3: How did you feel about windsor Brat? Because I still
- 48:03Speaker 3: don't know.
- 48:04Speaker 2: That kind of just gave us a small villain if
- 48:09Speaker 2: like a, okay, we have an antagonist for this book,
- 48:13Speaker 2: but like, realistically the antagonist is the first order.
- 48:16Speaker 3: It's not like so, so that I think is my
- 48:19Speaker 3: problem with this book. If I had any problem. Again,
- 48:24Speaker 3: great book, small story. I think that with a longer
- 48:30Speaker 3: book we could have an actual villain like Brat reminds
- 48:37Speaker 3: me a lot of of course, uh oh, my gosh.
- 48:43Speaker 3: What's his name from freaking and or Yahluth? No, not
- 48:51Speaker 3: Luthan uh oh yeah, although his name literally is at
- 49:01Speaker 3: the tip of my tongue, freaking Cyril. Yeah, Ceril Karn.
- 49:12Speaker 3: He reminds me a lot of Karn.
- 49:14Speaker 2: He is just this guy who.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Wants to like be somebody who has gone up the
- 49:22Speaker 3: ranks and everything else, right, But like the only thing
- 49:26Speaker 3: that's off about him is of course this sense of like, oh,
- 49:33Speaker 3: you know, we have to beat people into submission and
- 49:39Speaker 3: you know, show them what real power is, and like
- 49:42Speaker 3: all of this other stuff that you really just hear
- 49:45Speaker 3: about in the Empire. We have like some evidence of it,
- 49:50Speaker 3: but we mostly talk about it. We don't really see
- 49:52Speaker 3: it a whole lot. This is one of the first
- 49:54Speaker 3: books that we've read together that actually shows some of
- 49:58Speaker 3: those actions actually taking place. I think he was literally
- 50:04Speaker 3: there just so we could have a physical individual be
- 50:09Speaker 3: an antagonist. And I don't really think this book needed that.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Though I don't think it did either. It's not to
- 50:20Speaker 2: say that I think Bratt is a bad character, Like
- 50:25Speaker 2: there's a lot you could do with him, but I
- 50:27Speaker 2: think he also suffers because the book is short. Yes,
- 50:30Speaker 2: like if maybe if we'd given a little bit more
- 50:32Speaker 2: lengthy would have been okay in the long run.
- 50:36Speaker 3: By well, by proxy, I think that the only reason
- 50:40Speaker 3: why Bratt works is because of Ronhaus's way of writing
- 50:48Speaker 3: the story to depend on Yama for the rest of
- 50:53Speaker 3: the mission. Yeah, and so we do get that small
- 51:00Speaker 3: sense of justice there with Yama as well, so like
- 51:05Speaker 3: I do like it for that, but like we like
- 51:10Speaker 3: there's a moment in the book where he's like sweating
- 51:13Speaker 3: bullets and he's like, oh God, oh god, I'm gonna die.
- 51:17Speaker 3: This is the worst thing I've ever done with in
- 51:19Speaker 3: the world is happening. And then he has like a
- 51:21Speaker 3: sense of like, wait a second, no, I am loyal
- 51:25Speaker 3: to the empire. I I don't don't ever call me
- 51:29Speaker 3: a trader. What is wrong with you people? Well, and
- 51:32Speaker 3: he gets this one sense of a moment where he's
- 51:35Speaker 3: able to grab his superior officer, which I believe his
- 51:44Speaker 3: superior officer's name was, Oh shoot, who was it? Who
- 51:51Speaker 3: was it?
- 51:52Speaker 2: Uh?
- 51:53Speaker 3: Looking through the list again, I can't remember.
- 52:00Speaker 2: I'm so bad with character names, especially I know, uh
- 52:04Speaker 2: oh uh Ganell.
- 52:07Speaker 3: It's g yeah g E n I A L. Janelle
- 52:12Speaker 3: or Ganelle. But he was like yelling at him the
- 52:18Speaker 3: entire way to like the destination that they were going
- 52:21Speaker 3: to catch like treacherous activities or whatever, and literally Brat
- 52:29Speaker 3: grabs him by the waist and throws him into the
- 52:33Speaker 3: freaking ocean. Yeah, and kills him. And he's like Oh,
- 52:39Speaker 3: that's better, you know, And and he's like trying to
- 52:44Speaker 3: think of like all of these different ways that he
- 52:46Speaker 3: could spit it. He's like, oh, wait a second, I
- 52:49Speaker 3: could just act like nothing happened. That's even better. Coolah.
- 52:55Speaker 3: But then that's when he notices Yama. And then he
- 52:59Speaker 3: has this again this sense of like rage and all
- 53:02Speaker 3: of this other stuff. And again like he he was
- 53:08Speaker 3: kind of wishy washy in this idea of like he
- 53:11Speaker 3: wants to have this sense of superiority, but he has
- 53:15Speaker 3: this weird complex of also like having doubt within himself. Yeah,
- 53:20Speaker 3: So like it really fought against him in this moment
- 53:24Speaker 3: with Yama because Yama is still she's when I first
- 53:30Speaker 3: read that, when I read the first part of this book,
- 53:34Speaker 3: I did not picture her as a fifteen year old girl.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Yeah, because and that's what like happened with Finn is
- 53:41Speaker 2: like the First Order started recruiting younger and younger so
- 53:45Speaker 2: that way they could indoctrinate everybody. And so especially once
- 53:51Speaker 2: you've had all of these battles with the Resistance, you
- 53:54Speaker 2: had the the planet in the for Slakans explode, and
- 54:03Speaker 2: then you had all of the ships destroyed in the
- 54:05Speaker 2: last Jedi like there was a recruitment ramp up, and
- 54:08Speaker 2: like we kind of see that with the Last Order
- 54:13Speaker 2: book where we go into Finn and James's story and
- 54:20Speaker 2: like just diving into like oh okay, now we need
- 54:23Speaker 2: to go recruit more people.
- 54:25Speaker 3: Basically yeah, but we we learned that she's fifteen years old,
- 54:31Speaker 3: that she was a pencil pusher because she had an
- 54:35Speaker 3: idyllic memory that was really the only reason why she
- 54:40Speaker 3: got up in the rank so high and worked in
- 54:43Speaker 3: the department that she did, and freaking brat like freaking
- 54:50Speaker 3: bullied her and abused her. Yep, and it got like
- 54:56Speaker 3: a like a pure sense of justice and like f
- 54:59Speaker 3: the Patriarch, the type of moment when like but again
- 55:03Speaker 3: like because she was so beaten and belittled in like
- 55:07Speaker 3: the Empire in the first Order is like the only
- 55:10Speaker 3: thing that she's ever known, she still had this sense
- 55:13Speaker 3: of like I looked up to you, you were my
- 55:18Speaker 3: superior officer, and you did this to me, Like why
- 55:21Speaker 3: would you do this to me? And he even notices like,
- 55:24Speaker 3: oh wait, this is almost sounding like a little bit
- 55:26Speaker 3: of like remorse slash like a cry for help. What's
- 55:31Speaker 3: going on? And then that's when Nas comes out of nowhere,
- 55:36Speaker 3: and she's like, so here's the deal. Either she's gonna
- 55:42Speaker 3: kill you or I'm gonna kill you, and that's all
- 55:46Speaker 3: you really have the choice to do. And so we
- 55:51Speaker 3: get justice for all of the bad things Bratt has done.
- 56:02Speaker 3: And it did feel a little lackluster. Now. I did
- 56:06Speaker 3: enjoy the moment, but when it's all said and done,
- 56:10Speaker 3: he was like, excuse my language, a little bit of
- 56:13Speaker 3: a fart in the wind. It's just like, you know whatever. Yeah,
- 56:17Speaker 3: And I do like wish that we could have had
- 56:22Speaker 3: a little bit more with him, because when you look
- 56:26Speaker 3: at the grand scheme of all three important plot points
- 56:31Speaker 3: of this book, all three missions, the overarching like, hey,
- 56:37Speaker 3: the first Order and the need to save the galaxy
- 56:42Speaker 3: is the antagonist of the book. You don't need the
- 56:50Speaker 3: big bad villain, the mush telling, the mustache twirling villain.
- 56:54Speaker 3: You don't need that in this book. Yeah. So I
- 56:58Speaker 3: wonder if that was also some thing that her editors
- 57:02Speaker 3: were like, Hey, they are requiring to have like somebody
- 57:06Speaker 3: physically there to be the menacing one, you know, well,
- 57:10Speaker 3: and I do you do have to.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Wonder, right, this was all supposed to be done for
- 57:18Speaker 2: the for the movie, and Carrie Fisher passed away before
- 57:25Speaker 2: they ever started filming it, so did they get that
- 57:28Speaker 2: time then to go back and re edit things because
- 57:32Speaker 2: the movie was not delayed. So you've got to think
- 57:35Speaker 2: that Ronhors was probably a good ways in supplotting before
- 57:41Speaker 2: this book came out, So I wonder if they had
- 57:46Speaker 2: to kind of fill in some blanks with him.
- 57:49Speaker 3: Maybe it's the thought, Yeah, I would say, so, I
- 57:57Speaker 3: would say that they probably were like, hey, let's pivot
- 58:01Speaker 3: to this, you know type of thing. So I could
- 58:04Speaker 3: see that happening for sure. But I think that's really it.
- 58:11Speaker 3: I think as of right now, because again I have
- 58:15Speaker 3: not read Rogue Squadron, Alphabet Squadron, anything else. This is
- 58:22Speaker 3: my first reintroduction to Wedge, a retired pilot.
- 58:34Speaker 2: So Wedge really doesn't come into play in any.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Of the other books.
- 58:42Speaker 3: Really.
- 58:43Speaker 2: Yeah, basically at the end, remember, because at the end
- 58:47Speaker 2: of the Aftermath trilogy, he basically decides like, oh, I'm
- 58:50Speaker 2: ready to retire kind of thing, and so they set
- 58:53Speaker 2: up the piloting school.
- 58:58Speaker 3: And so he takes he like the wait, is he
- 59:02Speaker 3: a part of the Podamner and comic at all?
- 59:07Speaker 2: I don't believe so, because the Podamner in comic is
- 59:11Speaker 2: all resistance focused, Like.
- 59:13Speaker 3: There may be like a little bit of like.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but I have not read the Poe Damner in
- 59:20Speaker 2: comic either, So.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Okay, okay, all right, Yeah no, Like when like I
- 59:28Speaker 3: I did like the there there was a little bit
- 59:31Speaker 3: of like, you know, a very heartbreaking moment where he
- 59:36Speaker 3: has this sense of loss because of Luke in the
- 59:42Speaker 3: Last Jedi and like he says like, oh no, like that,
- 59:47Speaker 3: if Luke is gone, then so is the rebellion, so
- 59:50Speaker 3: is the Republic, Like this is this is it? But
- 59:56Speaker 3: like I I liked his you he's coming back. Nora
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: is a brand new character.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: For me other than Aftermath.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: Other than after Math, yeah.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Correct again, like Wedge, she doesn't really take place, she
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: doesn't really come into play anywhere else.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: So yeah, so I I did like their return into this.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: You know, we have that moment with uh, their son,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: what did you think of snap?
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Dad?
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: And that was what I was going to bring up.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: It was like a quick moment. He's like, I'm just
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: glad you're okay, Dad, And like even even Wedge has
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: this moment of like he called me Dad, and it
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: was it was very sweet, like we we know that
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Snap has of course this like rough history with his
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: father and all of that, And I didn't even really
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: think about him not calling him dad until the moment
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: that he did call him dad, and I was like, oh,
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: I wonder if that's his first time. And then when
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Wedge acknowledges, I was like, it is his first time.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Oh my goodness. So it was. It was sweet. It
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: was It was a very like heartwarming moment, especially with
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: it literally being like the last paragraph in the second
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: to last chapter. I think it was a very sweet
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: way to end that we do have like a little
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: bit of like a oh shit moment and we think
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: that Wedge is about to die.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Yeah. I remember reading this before the Rise of Skywalker
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: came out, and I was like, no, you can't kill Wegg.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: You can't kill Weg. Like as soon as he got shot,
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: I was like, wait a second, this can't happen. Like literally,
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: this can't happen. I'm seeing the Rise of Skywalker. He's
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: in that ship, Like, don't tell me he dies because
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: that doesn't make any goddamn sense. So like I I
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: really like that, and and even like in the moments
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: where like uh oh, who is the other uh chart's father.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Freaking Oh shoot, I.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Know who you're talking about. Why can't I think of it?
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: Carrie is his daughter? What's his name? His name is?
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, all right, Kara is the daughter of like,
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: is Kara his daughter?
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Here is the pilot?
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Kara's the pilot. That's not who's you know what? I'm
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: just gonna go to Karth. Where's where's man? Why doesn't
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: this character list be in alphabetical order? That's what I need.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: I need this characters? Yes, where is it? There's the
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: letter why yindor? Yes, yindor? That's right? His daughter, his
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: daughter died protecting Leah. And then there's a there's a
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: moment where they're on the communicator and she said she
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: didn't make it, and like he has this like small,
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: little like moment of silence and grieving moment. But there's
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: also a moment where she's like, hey, yendor, one of
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: our pilots didn't make it. There is an x wing here.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: And they even joked very early on in the book
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: about how, like, oh I miss flying sometimes and like
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: if I could do it again, you know all this stuff,
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: and she even says, like we could really use your
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: help and he's like, yeah, I'll be right there, and
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: like even that, like they don't really go into anything
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: with that whatsoever, but the fact that he agreed to
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: it like warmed my heart a little bit and I
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: was just like, that's awesome. He gets his like last
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: ride basically hopefully he gets to retire after this. But yeah,
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: I liked the small tidbits in the in this book,
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: like just as much as the big moments in this book.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: I think that is something that Ronhaus or Rowing Horror
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: Sorry does really really well. And as excuse me, if
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: this is the way that she writes, then I am
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: looking forward to every single book that she has written
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: for Star Wars.
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: So yeah, super excited to get to read Edge of Abyss.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: So uh yeah. I love the way she writes black Son,
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: which is another one of her books that she's written.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: I think it's black Son, isn't it. I just lost it, crap,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: It's yeah, it is black Son. Black Sun is highly rated,
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: and so that's been on my list to read for
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: quite some time. I think probably Edge of Abyss will
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: be first, but then hopefully I'll get to it.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: So excuse me, I just clicked on her name in
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Star Wars. She did also write a Dark Vengeance, which
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: is a part of the Clone Wars Stories of Light
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: and Dark. Yeah, which we have already read. Back in
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: it was the Blue Clone Wars book, was it not.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: I thought that was the one we hadn't read.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: Oh, no, you're right, that's the one we haven't read.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: That's the one we haven't read, because the one that
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: I'm thinking of is the cover with Darth Vader. And yeah,
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: that's the one I'm thinking of.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm holding for those are listening and polding stories
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: of gotta.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Answer Jedi and Sith. That's what it is. That's what
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: it is.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: And then here's the.
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: Yes, that's the one that we have not read yet.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Which is Stories of Light and Dark. Suck.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: All right, good to know, But yeah, I think that
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: is it for the review. I want to go ahead
