- 0:00Speaker 1: So breaking right now, U.S.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Forces are striking IRGC targets in Iran after recent attempted
- 0:06Speaker 2: attacks against commercial shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
- 0:10Speaker 2: So this is on once again this afternoon and this
- 0:13Speaker 2: evening in the region. Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yinks spoke
- 0:16Speaker 2: with President Trump earlier, and he reports live for us
- 0:20Speaker 2: from Tel Aviv.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hi, Trey.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Hi, Trey.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Martha, good afternoon.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Currently, the United States is conducting extensive airstrikes against southwestern
- 0:29Speaker 4: Iran next to the Strait of Hormuz, a variety of
- 0:32Speaker 4: different targets being hit. And again, this appears to be
- 0:35Speaker 4: a medium-range target list for the United States, trying to
- 0:39Speaker 4: decrease the threats toward vessels in this critical waterway and
- 0:43Speaker 4: also retaliate for the attack on U.S. forces earlier this week.
- 0:47Speaker 4: I did speak with President Trump earlier, who said a
- 0:49Speaker 4: new warning to Iran. saying if they do respond, they
- 0:53Speaker 4: will be hit much harder. The president went on to say,
- 0:56Speaker 4: this is a.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Very big hit today.
- 0:58Speaker 4: If it goes a third time, they're going to be
- 1:00Speaker 4: totally wiped out as a country. In terms of a
- 1:03Speaker 4: possible agreement with the Iranians, the president said, I think
- 1:05Speaker 4: an agreement with them isn't worth the paper it's written on.
- 1:08Speaker 4: We gave them a lot of chances. And finally, the
- 1:11Speaker 4: president added the USS George Washington is loaded to the gills.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We are loaded up.
- 1:15Speaker 4: The president talking there about the new aircraft carrier that
- 1:18Speaker 4: arrived in theater last week to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln. So,
- 1:23Speaker 4: stepping back here, what we know tonight, the United States
- 1:26Speaker 4: is striking targets in Iran. The Iranians are threatening to retaliate,
- 1:30Speaker 4: and the president is warning Iran against doing this. We
- 1:33Speaker 4: have seen similar warnings from President Trump in the past
- 1:35Speaker 4: against the Iranians, talking about wiping out their country. But, again,
- 1:39Speaker 4: more than six months into this conflict, there is no
- 1:41Speaker 4: sense that we are anywhere close to an agreement in
- 1:44Speaker 4: the region. The president telling FOX News, It can't even
- 1:47Speaker 4: be worth the paper that it's written on. And ultimately,
- 1:49Speaker 4: this tit for tat, the back and forth that we
- 1:51Speaker 4: are seeing right now near to the Strait of Hormuz
- 1:54Speaker 4: is expected to continue. Martha.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Trey Yanks, thank you very much, Trey.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And with that, we bring in retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward,
- 2:02Speaker 2: former deputy commander of U.S. Central Command and member of
- 2:05Speaker 2: the Iran Policy Project at the Jewish Institute for National
- 2:08Speaker 2: Security of America. Admiral Harward grew up in Iran. Admiral,
- 2:12Speaker 2: it's always good to have you with us. Thank you
- 2:14Speaker 2: very much for joining me today. your reaction to this
- 2:17Speaker 2: latest action, military action that the United States is taking
- 2:21Speaker 2: against Iran today.
- 2:23Speaker 5: I think it's.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Going after everything they have that can project power.
- 2:28Speaker 5: There's no doubt about it.
- 2:29Speaker 3: If you think about the president's comments, it's aligned with
- 2:33Speaker 3: his statement he made in the summer of 05 and
- 2:37Speaker 3: in March of 06 when we started this. I think
- 2:41Speaker 3: negotiations are over. There's no return to the MOU, and
- 2:45Speaker 3: he's going to look for unconditional surrender. That was always
- 2:48Speaker 3: his intent. And now that he's tied both military power
- 2:52Speaker 3: and economic power together, I think he's got a sound
- 2:56Speaker 3: strategy and can accomplish that objective.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that may require a change in regime,
- 3:03Speaker 2: because they're pulling at every lever of the economy, of
- 3:07Speaker 2: their military strength, absolutely every area that they can hit.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I want to get your thoughts on this, because today
- 3:13Speaker 2: there is a meeting between Russian President Putin and Iranian
- 3:17Speaker 2: President Pozezhkin at the Shanghai Cooperation Summit in Kyrgyzstan. Here
- 3:22Speaker 2: is a picture of the two of them, President Putin
- 3:25Speaker 2: saying— Russia stands in solidarity with the Iranian people.
- 3:28Speaker 1: We admire your courage.
- 3:29Speaker 2: He went on to say, we are trying to provide
- 3:31Speaker 2: you with the assistance you need.
- 3:32Speaker 1: As we've discussed, we are.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Supplying you with the necessary goods, says Putin to Pozezhkin.
- 3:39Speaker 2: China has also, you know, sort of had the same
- 3:43Speaker 2: tone at these meetings.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Your thoughts on that?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Well, now you're going to see political power come to play.
- 3:51Speaker 5: And that's exactly what this is.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Iran has always been a surrogate of Russia and a
- 3:55Speaker 3: surrogate of China.
- 3:57Speaker 5: They both have strategic interests in this.
- 3:59Speaker 3: So while the president's applied both economic and military power,
- 4:03Speaker 3: you're going to start seeing the political power come to play.
- 4:08Speaker 3: including his future visit to China. So you're seeing the
- 4:11Speaker 3: Russians double down. They need this ally. This is their
- 4:15Speaker 3: second front against the West, their first being Ukraine.
- 4:19Speaker 5: So this is essential to this.
- 4:21Speaker 3: And Putin needs to— start thinking, as well as the
- 4:25Speaker 3: rest of the Russian people, what does Russia look like post-Putin?
- 4:30Speaker 3: And so he's setting the stage here to make sure
- 4:32Speaker 3: this ally and their front against the West stays supported.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And so this conflict is much bigger than just the U.S.
- 4:42Speaker 3: and Iran. This is about Russia. It's about China. It's
- 4:45Speaker 3: about Ukraine. All of this is tied together.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah, 100 percent.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And you know the region so well, having lived there
- 4:54Speaker 2: and having been the head of U.S.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Central Command.
- 4:58Speaker 2: What's your assessment right now of the position that Iran
- 5:02Speaker 2: is in? Because we're hearing that more ships are making
- 5:04Speaker 2: it through the sort of western side of the strait
- 5:09Speaker 2: on the Oman side.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Ships are getting through. And we know that there's.
- 5:13Speaker 2: A lot, a ton of economic pressure that the Treasury
- 5:16Speaker 2: secretary has put on them. How long before they'll break,
- 5:19Speaker 2: if you think they will?
- 5:21Speaker 3: Oh, I know they will. There's no doubt about it.
- 5:24Speaker 3: It is inevitable. We've crossed that tipping point already. Look,
- 5:28Speaker 3: and you can look at what the oil markets are doing.
- 5:30Speaker 3: They've remained stable, $ 80, $ 81 a barrel.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Iran is going to continue to lose resources. They have
- 5:38Speaker 5: none now.
- 5:39Speaker 3: But more and more, people can't put gas in their cars.
- 5:43Speaker 3: People won't be able to heat their homes in the wintertime.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Food will become an issue. All this economic pressure tied
- 5:51Speaker 3: with this continual military campaign will inevitably draw the regime
- 5:56Speaker 3: to the ground, and not so much externally, but I
- 5:59Speaker 3: think more importantly, internally. The people will rise up against
- 6:04Speaker 3: the regime when they have the ability to do that.
- 6:07Speaker 3: And there are things we can help on that side
- 6:09Speaker 3: of the equation as well. So I think all that
- 6:12Speaker 3: is starting to come together.
- 6:13Speaker 5: And you're seeing a.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Full economic, military and political campaign coalesce against the regime
- 6:21Speaker 3: of Iran.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's always interesting to get your take on it.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Because of this military action that we've seen this afternoon,
- 6:27Speaker 2: likely we do see that oil prices are.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Up around 90.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But as you point out, they have sort of hovered
- 6:33Speaker 2: in that region between 80 and 90, as we've seen
- 6:36Speaker 2: the back and forth here.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Admiral Harward, thank you very much. Always good to see you, sir.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Good to see you.
