- 0:29Open your Bibles Exodus chapter. 25 Exodus chapter 25 we're going
- 0:35to pick up where we left off last time in verse 8 and I've
- 0:39been. Taught at our Bible study God.
- 0:41Has done so much for us. God has done so much.
- 0:46For us, we're. Slowing down.
- 0:48Our study a bit. In Exodus, as we learn about the
- 0:52Tabernacle, it's significance as a place of.
- 0:55Worship what God has prescribed. On how?
- 0:58It's to be built the. Contents.
- 1:01They're in. It is the place of worship, the
- 1:05place where the people of God will gather.
- 1:07Around it is the point of contact for worship for this new
- 1:11nation, and God instructs them to build a temporary movable
- 1:16tent that will serve as their gathering place.
- 1:20Of worship their whole lives we're to be.
- 1:24Surrounding this place of worship isn't that cool.
- 1:29You were built and. Created to worship to worship.
- 1:33The one true God, the. The idea of worship.
- 1:36Not just in music, not just in song, but in life.
- 1:39Worship is the very highest activity.
- 1:42That we could ever attain. To that place of.
- 1:45Adoration and appreciation of God.
- 1:48You can jot it down in Revelation chapter 4 in verse
- 1:5211. I'm going to read to you from
- 1:53the old King James, because it does, really.
- 1:55Well, with the with the. In the translation here.
- 1:59Revelation 411. Thou art worthy, old Lord, to
- 2:03receive. Glory and honor and.
- 2:05Power for thou has. Created all things and listen.
- 2:09For thy pleasure. They are and were created.
- 2:15You and I were created to bring pleasure to God.
- 2:18That, that is our. Existence that our lives might
- 2:21please the one who. Created us.
- 2:24When a person. Follows God, he or she.
- 2:27Comes to admire him and know him in a deeper way and love him
- 2:32more. And that love continues.
- 2:34To grow with each day. And it's through that growing
- 2:37love relationship. That worship flows actually
- 2:41everything that we do the Bible. Says in work, in play.
- 2:46Throughout the. Day should be done in.
- 2:48Worship to the Lord. How many?
- 2:51Would see just a little bit. Of an edge taken off at work.
- 2:54If you would approach work as a place of worship.
- 2:57Unto the Lord. Where your life would.
- 2:59Honor God in that little. Cubicle with that stack of
- 3:03papers or with every. Single phone call that you
- 3:06received For many years I worked in a call center and I had just
- 3:10had a headset and a computer just shooting calls at me all
- 3:13day. Truly I could.
- 3:14I had no and if I tried to to cut some calls off to improve my
- 3:17time. My supervisor would always.
- 3:19Find out and I would just get. Call after call after call.
- 3:22And it would be very. Hard to see a. 1000 calls a day
- 3:26is worship to God, but when I was born again I saw that those
- 3:30thousand calls put food on the table for my family.
- 3:34It put me in position where I could be kind to them and help
- 3:37them with what they were calling to find out and everything in
- 3:40life. How many?
- 3:42You don't need to answer this, but how many of you need a
- 3:45attitude adjustment about your? Work there.
- 3:49Is an Amen in there. There was a lot of them.
- 3:51Not me, not me, not me. That's exactly you.
- 3:55The Bible says this in Colossians chapter 3.
- 3:57Whatever you do in. Word or deed do all.
- 4:01In the name of the. Lord Jesus.
- 4:03Giving thanks to God the. Father through.
- 4:06Him, the nation of Israel. Then with this Tabernacle they
- 4:11were being trained, or the word we may use today they were
- 4:14being. Discipled.
- 4:16The nation of Israel then and the Church of God in the New
- 4:20Covenant today are being trained A disciple to.
- 4:24Base your. Lives upon the relational
- 4:27worship of God, putting God first in your life.
- 4:32Jesus would say. He made it.
- 4:34Very clear of all the. Desperation to find balance in
- 4:40this world and all the desperation and decisions we
- 4:43need to make and. What are the Bible says that our
- 4:47priority is to. Seek first God's Kingdom and all
- 4:52His righteousness. These other things will be added
- 4:55unto you. That Tabernacle would be the
- 4:58center. The nation of Israel would camp
- 5:00around the Tabernacle, as they were reminded.
- 5:05Of the worship of God. Now turn over, hold your place
- 5:08in Exodus and turn over with me to John chapter 1 and verse 14.
- 5:14I want you to cross reference. This verse with our study.
- 5:18Over the next many weeks in the Tabernacle, which just means
- 5:23tent Tabernacle. And notice with me in verse 14
- 5:28of John's Gospel chapter 1. The Bible declares the word.
- 5:33Became flesh and dwelt among us, and we.
- 5:37Beheld His glory, The glory is of.
- 5:39The only begotten of the Father, full of grace and.
- 5:44Truth circle, that word dwelt. Next to that.
- 5:48Word you could write. A verb tabernacled.
- 5:53You could say that Jesus. Came in the form of a human
- 5:56being and dwelt or tabernacled before us and among us.
- 6:02When we study the Tabernacle, I want you to remember.
- 6:06Each of the pieces. Will point in some way to
- 6:10Messiah now. I don't.
- 6:12Believe that God was. Expecting the nation of Israel
- 6:15to sit around and take notes and figure it out.
- 6:18But rather, he was. Giving insight in their
- 6:21understanding of worship. That as that was being
- 6:24deposited. In them God would then continue
- 6:26to open their hearts in the expectation for God to keep his
- 6:30promises so that by the time we come to John one we learn that
- 6:34Jesus. Christ He.
- 6:36Took on a human Tabernacle, and he dwelt among us.
- 6:40For you that are no. Takers, we looked at.
- 6:42This last time, but let me. Repeat it for you.
- 6:44So you can capture. It as we go forward, but there
- 6:47are. Similarities between the
- 6:49Tabernacle and Jesus #1 the Tabernacle was.
- 6:54Temporary. It served a very specific
- 6:57purpose for a specific. Time later on, the temple would
- 7:01come as a more permanent form of worship.
- 7:04Jesus He. Dwelt among us also for a short
- 7:08time in his human body on. Earth 33 years.
- 7:13Tabernacle temporary #2 The Tabernacle was in the
- 7:17wilderness, and Even so, Jesus. With our Lord he dwelt.
- 7:21In the wilderness, not having a. Place to lay his head, Thirdly.
- 7:27The Tabernacle was humble in appearance and we'll.
- 7:30See that as we study it. There was nothing about it
- 7:33outwardly when you looked at the Tabernacle, especially as it was
- 7:37picked up and moved and taken along and taken out and picked
- 7:41back together over and over again.
- 7:43When you looked at the Tabernacle, it looked like a big
- 7:45tent, one that was used over and over again.
- 7:49It was covered with. Animal skins and looked similar
- 7:52to many of the tents of the day. Much like Jesus, the Bible says
- 7:56that he was. Humble in appearance, taking the
- 8:00form of a. Servant Isaiah 53 verse.
- 8:03Two, says this of Messiah. For he shall grow up before.
- 8:06Us as a tender plant and as a root out of dry ground.
- 8:10He has no form or comeliness and when we see him there is no.
- 8:15Beauty that we should. Desire him #4 The Tabernacle was
- 8:21God's dwelling place among men. The Tabernacle was God's
- 8:25dwelling place among men. We see today.
- 8:28Notice in chapter 25 in verse 8 of.
- 8:31Exodus, it says let. Them make me a sanctuary that I
- 8:36may dwell among them. It was.
- 8:41The Tabernacle where God would meet.
- 8:44His people, Jesus. Emmanuel, we know that means.
- 8:49God is. With us, among us Jesus came and
- 8:55dwelt, among us, Jesus our only mediator between God and man.
- 9:02The touchable, the huggable, the.
- 9:04Lovable God wrapped in human flesh as we were on our tour on
- 9:11the footsteps of. Paul.
- 9:12Some of the. Stops.
- 9:14Were these very elaborate? Church buildings in Rome.
- 9:19Very elaborate. Catholic.
- 9:20Church buildings and one of them, we were walking out and
- 9:23there were these big confessionals here and the team
- 9:26was in there looking and taking their pictures and I stayed
- 9:28back. At the door, as people.
- 9:30Were walking out and I was just standing there reminding them I
- 9:33said you don't need a box. You have one mediator between
- 9:36God and man, the man Christ Jesus.
- 9:38You don't confess to a man, you don't sit in a box.
- 9:41You can go directly to the throne room of grace to find
- 9:44help and time of need. Isn't that great?
- 9:46Jesus is our only mediator, and He is the dwelling place of God
- 9:50among men. You come to Him and you have it
- 9:53all. You don't need to go through
- 9:55man. Don't ever go through man.
- 9:56You can go. Directly to the Father.
- 9:59Through the Son in the. Power of the Holy Spirit.
- 10:02Very important. Tabernacle was God's dwelling
- 10:05place #5. The Tabernacle provided the
- 10:08sacrifice place for. Sin.
- 10:11It was in the Tabernacle where the daily offerings for the sin
- 10:14of the nation were offered. Jesus on the cross, as we will
- 10:18learn this weekend, was the sacrifice place for the sins of
- 10:23all mankind as Jesus was nailed on the cross and died for us in
- 10:29Hebrews Chapter 7, verse 20. 6 for such a high.
- 10:32Priest was fitting for us. Who's holy, harmless, undefiled,
- 10:38separate from sinners? Who has become higher than the
- 10:42heavens? Who does not need?
- 10:44Daily as those high priests to OfferUp sacrifices.
- 10:47First for his own sins and then for the peoples.
- 10:50For Speaking of Jesus, He did once for all when He offered up
- 10:56himself. Let's pick up in verse 8 again,
- 10:59and let's study now the Ark of the Covenant, verse 8.
- 11:03Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.
- 11:06According to all that I show you, that is the pattern.
- 11:10Of the Tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings.
- 11:13Just so you shall make it now, verse 9.
- 11:17We're not going to get into this in depth, but it is good to
- 11:19comment here and remind you. That God requires.
- 11:23Obedience according to His way and will, not yours.
- 11:28So when he says something, he wants it done his way.
- 11:31That was a very quick. I want you to do it and and it
- 11:33would. Be very easy.
- 11:34To come to something that. Is.
- 11:37Being asked to by being asked from you and go I.
- 11:40Could do it better I. Already know how to do this and
- 11:42it's just a tent. I mean how hard is it as a tent
- 11:44just so I can make it faster and I can make it cheaper and you
- 11:47know God, I could do 3 tents for you but that's not what.
- 11:49God said. God said.
- 11:51I want you to make this. This is where I'm going to
- 11:52dwell, and I want you to do it. Exactly as I tell you, I believe
- 11:58that's a word. For someone here, someone
- 12:00listening in, watching online. It is God's desire.
- 12:04For you to do things his way, not your way.
- 12:08It's a very. Frustrating thing for you to.
- 12:09Offer God. Compromise instead of obedience.
- 12:14And they were not to compromise on these things when he gave
- 12:17instructions the expectation. Was that they do exactly what he
- 12:21said. Verse 10.
- 12:23They shall make an arc of Acacia.
- 12:25Wood. 2 1/2 cubits shall be its length a cubit and a half, its
- 12:28width A cubit and 1/2. Its height and you shall overlay
- 12:32it with pure gold. Inside and out you shall overlay
- 12:34it and shall make on it a molding of gold all around.
- 12:39You shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them in its
- 12:43four corners. Two rings shall be on one side,
- 12:452 rings on the other side, and you shall make.
- 12:47Poles of Acacia wood overlay. Them with Gold.
- 12:51Verse 14 You shall put the poles into the rings on the side of
- 12:54the ark, and the ark may be carried by them.
- 12:57The pole shall be in the rings of the ark, they shall not be
- 13:00taken from it, And you shall put into the ark the testimony which
- 13:04I. Give you.
- 13:06You shall make a mercy. Seat of pure gold. 2 1/2 cubits
- 13:11shall be its length, a cubit and 1/2.
- 13:12Its width. And you shall make 2 cherubim of
- 13:15gold hammered work. You shall make them at the 2
- 13:18ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub at one end and
- 13:22the other cherub at the other end.
- 13:24You should make the cherubim at the 2 ends of it one piece with
- 13:30the mercy seat the cherubim. Shall stretch out their.
- 13:33Wings above, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and they
- 13:37shall face one another. The faces of the.
- 13:39Cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat.
- 13:42You shall, verse 21, put the mercy seat on top of the ark,
- 13:45and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I will give you.
- 13:49And there I will meet. With you and I will.
- 13:52Speak with. You from above the mercy seat,
- 13:55from between the two cherubim which were on the Ark of the
- 13:58Covenant, or the Ark of the testimony, of all the things
- 14:01which I give you in the commandment of the children of
- 14:06Israel. Essentially the ark of the.
- 14:08Covenant, The Ark of Testimony was a small box.
- 14:11Four by two by two. Feet in dimension overlaid in
- 14:15pure gold inside and out with a molding.
- 14:18The rings were on either side of the four corners.
- 14:20Poles were set through. To carry the ark, the priest
- 14:24would put the poles through the. Rings and inside we learn.
- 14:27Later will be 3. Items A copy of the 10
- 14:29commandments, Aaron's rod, and a jar of manna.
- 14:34Now here's where the typology. Gets interesting right here in
- 14:37the beginning. Acacia would throughout the
- 14:40scriptures would is used to describe a type or a picture of.
- 14:45Humanity. Or flesh.
- 14:48Sometimes in a negative way, but many times humanity.
- 14:52This wood, Acacia wood is overlaid.
- 14:55In gold, which speaks of. Gold deity.
- 14:59And royalty. So here you have a.
- 15:01Box made of wood. Humanity.
- 15:04But overlaid with gold. Deity and royalty speaking again
- 15:09of who? Messiah 100% God.
- 15:13Fully man, fully God. Acacia wood was a harder, darker
- 15:18wood that would. Last long and take a beating.
- 15:23Jesus, He himself, being eternal one in his humanity, took a
- 15:28beating for us. Acacia Wood was able.
- 15:31To draw grow in dry arid climates in Isaiah. 53 verse.
- 15:37Two. Speaking of.
- 15:38Messiah, the Bible says, for he shall.
- 15:40Grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of dry
- 15:44ground. He has no form or comeliness and
- 15:47when we see him, there's no beauty.
- 15:49Acacia wood, The Bush. Also had thorns what would be
- 15:54twisted in the head of in the. Skull of our Savior A.
- 15:57Crown of Thorns. The Acacia wood also had a
- 16:01unique. Property that the Bedouins
- 16:04would. Pierce the Bush for the.
- 16:05Gum resin that resided in its trunk.
- 16:09They would take that. Resin and use it as a healing
- 16:12balm for their cuts and their bruises and their pains.
- 16:15Isaiah 53 verse. Five.
- 16:17He was wounded for our transgression.
- 16:20He was bruised. For our iniquities, the
- 16:22chastisement of our peace was upon him, and.
- 16:25By his stripes we. Are healed now, you'll recall in
- 16:31the New Testament there will be an occasion, even on one
- 16:35occasion. Particularly where Jesus rebukes
- 16:38the religious leaders. Telling them they should have
- 16:40known the day of his coming. They should have known he was
- 16:45Messiah, not only in his revelation, but beginning very
- 16:50early on in the. Scriptures.
- 16:52The Bible is. Pointing it is the story of the
- 16:55coming. Rescuer of God.
- 16:58Something as simple as the Ark of the Testimony with notice on
- 17:03verse 17 now has a. Lid the box does.
- 17:07The lid is known as the Mercy seat on it.
- 17:11To have two cherubs. Or you'll notice in your Bible
- 17:14it says cherubim because I am is the plural.
- 17:18For cherub, but cherub. Is an Angel.
- 17:20It was to have two cherubs. A form of an Angel on either.
- 17:24Side their wings are to be outstretched.
- 17:27Put it on top. Put the mercy seat on top, but
- 17:31inside put the testimony. So this glorious piece of.
- 17:34Furniture is the first to be built.
- 17:37The first instruction, the first thing I want you to make for
- 17:40this place where I'm going to meet you is not the walls, not
- 17:44the poles, not the side. The first thing God says I want
- 17:47you to do is I want you to create and make.
- 17:50The place where I. Will meet you and speak to you
- 17:54at the mercy. Seat, that's what it.
- 17:56Says notice in verse 22 I will meet you.
- 17:59That's. There.
- 18:00Is where I will meet you and speak to you from above the
- 18:04mercy seat. This is the only time we read of
- 18:08God meeting at a specific location and promising to meet
- 18:12there regularly is on this particular box.
- 18:15This box was God's. Solution to the gulf between man
- 18:20and. Himself.
- 18:21This was the place where their failures were covered by.
- 18:25Reference you can read through Leviticus chapter 16.
- 18:28For all the details, the blood was.
- 18:30Sprinkled on the mercy. Seat so that the law.
- 18:32Inside the testimony, the law inside that once condemned the.
- 18:38People was covered by the blood. It's amazing.
- 18:42God is saying I will meet you and I will speak with you and I
- 18:47will. Give to you.
- 18:48And I will. Be there with you.
- 18:50And I will honor my word with you, which reminds us, as we
- 18:56think of the ark, of the testimony, we think of Jesus.
- 18:59God is the initiator. As men and women, we take far
- 19:04too much. Credit for all that, God.
- 19:06Has done for us and all God continues to do for.
- 19:09Us, we take far. Too much credit, anything that
- 19:12we. Have to offer to God is what He
- 19:14has first. Given us anything that we have
- 19:17learned. He's taught us.
- 19:19Any good gift we receive has come from our Father, from our
- 19:22Father in heaven, our. Father of Lights, the Bible
- 19:25says. God is the initiator, and He
- 19:29will do for man what man cannot do for himself.
- 19:33This is the essence of. Pride, by the way.
- 19:35The essence of pride is thinking that you can do what only God
- 19:39can do and beginning to. Offer that as if.
- 19:41You're God or greater than. God, but God is gracious.
- 19:45With us. And he does.
- 19:46For us, what we cannot do for. Ourselves and we Fast forward
- 19:50today it's a. Perfect.
- 19:51I love how God weaves together our Bible studies.
- 19:54Both on the weekends as well as and our midweek, he just weaves
- 19:58them together. His perfect timing travels when
- 20:01I'm away. The guest teachers all the words
- 20:03that God has for us. And then he puts it.
- 20:05Together because as we Fast forward today.
- 20:08Christianity is not based on what man can do.
- 20:13It is not a man's works centered relationship or religion.
- 20:17At although. Men have made it that and large
- 20:21religious systems are based. Their authority or their?
- 20:26Teachings on the efforts and energies of men.
- 20:30The best that we can offer to God.
- 20:32Is stumbling around in the darkness and perhaps, you know,
- 20:36here or there we might end up doing something.
- 20:39Right. But truly all.
- 20:41Man can do is stumble around. The gospel is not a message of
- 20:45working hard, and the gospel is not a message of reading much or
- 20:50singing. Louder or.
- 20:52Making. Sure the that.
- 20:54I am attending church and somebody sees me.
- 20:57No, no, no. Remember, we read in Psalm 9 the
- 20:59blessing. Goes to those that are.
- 21:01Seeking him, not seeking something from him, but just
- 21:05seeking him, not trying to. OfferUp, look what I've.
- 21:09Done for you, God. Look how important I am.
- 21:12Look how much I've done for you. Somehow obligating God.
- 21:16No, no, no, no, no, God says. Build it this box, this way out
- 21:20of this wood, with this gold. Make sure you got the rings and
- 21:23the poles make. Sure, the lid is built.
- 21:25Built a certain way. It's got to be this
- 21:27specification. Put the testimony and I'll tell
- 21:29you what to put in. It's going to be the law.
- 21:31Put that in, cover it, and that's where I'm going to speak
- 21:34to you right on top. Of the law I supersede.
- 21:36Even. The law, God would say.
- 21:40And we come to. God because of what?
- 21:42He has done not because what we have done it's that.
- 21:47Way every day of the week. How can I come to God, though?
- 21:51I haven't kept his commandments. Nobody comes here today that
- 21:56would have clean hands, and here we are.
- 21:59I've kept all your commandments, Lord.
- 22:01No, you haven't. We've all sinned and fallen
- 22:04short. Of the glory of God.
- 22:06How do we come to him? Is it because we've kept?
- 22:10The commandments no the. For the Ark of the.
- 22:12Covenant when they would come to the Tabernacle and come to the
- 22:15Ark, they don't come because. Of the law, because the law is.
- 22:18Hidden in the box, they don't even see it.
- 22:21They know it's there, but it's not be to be seen or to be read.
- 22:24It's to be. It's to.
- 22:25Sit there under the lid. But that was no ordinary.
- 22:30Lid. It was the place where God.
- 22:32Would meet them the mercy. Seat covered.
- 22:39By the blood, only Jesus kept the law.
- 22:43Only Jesus has a. Perfect pedigree.
- 22:48The Bible. Says in Psalm 40 verse. 8I
- 22:50delight to do your will. Oh my God, and your?
- 22:53Law is. Within my heart in John chapter
- 22:588 verse 29, Jesus said, And he who sent me is with me.
- 23:02The Father has not left me alone.
- 23:04For I always do. Those things that please him.
- 23:09The Ark of the Covenant is a stark reminder.
- 23:12Of all that Jesus. Has done for me.
- 23:16All that he has. Accomplished on my behalf all
- 23:20that he is currently doing in my stead, interceding for me,
- 23:24pleading for me, standing against the.
- 23:27Accuser of the. Brethren, on my behalf, and I
- 23:30come to the Father in Christ, not in my works.
- 23:35I come to the Father in the under the mercy that God has
- 23:39shown me that I did not, and by. The way as I say.
- 23:43I did not. The same is true for you.
- 23:46I did not receive. What I deserved?
- 23:49Instead, I received the mercy. Of God.
- 23:51And the patience of God, I think of every single person here
- 23:56that's represented in the room that has been.
- 23:58Invited to our services by you because you.
- 24:01Love them and you care about them and you care not only about
- 24:05who they are now, but for their eternity.
- 24:08You want them to. Hear about God's love.
- 24:10For them, and whether they say yes or no to your invite, that's
- 24:14not really what's so significant in your role at least.
- 24:17Because for you, hey, what do we do?
- 24:20We plant. We.
- 24:22Water, but whose gives the? Increase God every time God.
- 24:26So we just, we're faithful. Let God do.
- 24:28What he needs to do with however those invites?
- 24:31Go but why do? We invite them because we know
- 24:33that when they. Hear the gospel.
- 24:35It has the power of God. The gospel is the.
- 24:38Power of God to change their lives.
- 24:41And why is it that God? Gives them a chance right now, a
- 24:43few days. Let's just say that he.
- 24:44Doesn't return and we have services.
- 24:46Well, why does he? Give them the time because he's
- 24:48being merciful with them. They every moment of every day.
- 24:53They're not receiving what they deserve.
- 24:56They're receiving the mercy of God even outside of
- 24:59relationship. Now how much more?
- 25:02As we approach God. We come to the mercy seat, not
- 25:05the judgement seat. We come to the mercy seat you
- 25:09see most. Believers have it backwards.
- 25:12Once you get this straight, it's going to open up a channel in
- 25:15your life that will blow your mind and your relationship with
- 25:18God. You can ask some that live under
- 25:21the authority and the. Beauty of the grace of.
- 25:24God and they'll tell you what freedom there is in following
- 25:27Christ. And you don't want to have this
- 25:30backwards, but most. Do they live like this?
- 25:33I'll meet God in the ark. That's what.
- 25:35That's where. I need to be in the ark.
- 25:37I'll keep the commandments. I'll be a good little.
- 25:40Boy and a good little girl and I'll make people proud of me and
- 25:43I'll get noticed and people will see me.
- 25:46It's in all of us. You know, we did some training
- 25:48recently. I just, my heart can be so dark
- 25:51sometimes and it's not even a big deal.
- 25:53But the Lord just showing me we did some training here.
- 25:56We we went on the trip. I did it when I got back and and
- 25:59you have to take a test at the end. 25 questions.
- 26:01I think they were. Why do I know they're 25
- 26:03questions? Because I paid attention to them
- 26:0625 And so I'm answering the questions after the little video
- 26:09training. Click, click, click and I'm
- 26:11waiting because it doesn't tell you.
- 26:12What's your score? What's your?
- 26:13Score, just want to let you know, 100 percent, 100%.
- 26:18So I come back to the stop me today.
- 26:20What do I say? Hey I just want to let everybody
- 26:22know what my score. Was what was your score?
- 26:2580 and over here and I and I remember when I sent it in the
- 26:29person I sent it in to shot a little e-mail back.
- 26:31Good job 100%. What was my response?
- 26:34I wish there was some extra credit questions because I'm
- 26:38like an A+ plus kind of person. Now where does that come from?
- 26:43It's the same thing I'm talking here.
- 26:45This sense of, you know, God, I'll please you.
- 26:49I'll get an A plus. Plus.
- 26:51I'll make you proud of me when all the while in Christ, He
- 26:55loves me. If I scored a 0.
- 26:58On that test, he loves me. If I had to retake it over and
- 27:03over again, the test isn't the point.
- 27:07It really wasn't the point. The point wasn't and I, I really
- 27:09didn't take it for that, although it did trigger in me,
- 27:12my flesh. I really was paying attention.
- 27:15I really did want to learn the subject matter.
- 27:17It's very important. For the oversight of this.
- 27:19Church. And I did want to learn it, and
- 27:23that's why. I took it out of.
- 27:24Relationship. But just a little test.
- 27:26At the end can provoke the flesh, and that's how life is
- 27:30sometimes with the Lord. I know your motives.
- 27:33Are to please the. Lord and honor him not to earn
- 27:36favor, but you know there are all those little temptations to
- 27:39try to one up someone and your neighbor got an A minus.
- 27:44You want an A+ or your neighbor. And I, when I mean neighbor, I
- 27:48don't mean who you live next to. I mean the person you're seeing
- 27:50to right here. It's like, you know, they got a
- 27:52compliment. I want 2 compliments.
- 27:54If someone saw that, I want to be seen.
- 27:57We approach God wanting to be seen.
- 27:59We approach God wanting to earn. You have it all wrong.
- 28:02You don't meet God in the ark. You meet God on the ark, on the
- 28:06lid, in the place of mercy, not judgement.
- 28:10Let me show. You this is very clear.
- 28:11Turn over to Romans chapter 3. We have a few moments still and
- 28:15you can see why we're going to slow down.
- 28:17These are so important. I don't want to just go through
- 28:19them quickly. Notice with me Romans chapter 3.
- 28:24When you get there pick up in verse 21.
- 28:27I want to meet God in the mercy seat.
- 28:28I don't want to meet him at the place of judgement at the.
- 28:31Law. The law.
- 28:33Is unable to make me righteous and my keeping of the law does
- 28:36not make me righteous. It's not in the ark I meet God,
- 28:41it's on it. Notice verse 21 Romans chapter
- 28:443. But now the righteousness.
- 28:47Of God apart. From the Law is revealed, being
- 28:51witnessed by the law and the prophets, even the
- 28:53righteousness. Of God is what through say with
- 28:56me church through. Faith in Jesus Christ to all and
- 29:01on all mark this who believe there's no difference, for all
- 29:07have sinned and fall short of the.
- 29:08Glory of God being justified freely how?
- 29:12By his grace it is. All over the Bible.
- 29:19So many have it backwards. You're trying to earn God's
- 29:21favor. You're approaching God with such
- 29:25a. Deep works based.
- 29:29It comes out in so many different ways, perfectionism,
- 29:32pride, striving for positions or notoriety and just unable.
- 29:38To ever be happy with what you have to offer.
- 29:40God and wanting to one up and you got the A, You want the A+
- 29:44instead of resting in the Lord. But it's even worse when it
- 29:48comes. To your spiritual life you
- 29:51either believe that the blood of Jesus.
- 29:52Christ is all sufficient or you don't.
- 29:55There's no middle ground. It's what?
- 29:58God has done for us, he says. Notice, and this is important in
- 30:02verse 25, well really in verse 24, at the end through the
- 30:06redemption, that's in Christ Jesus whom God set forth and
- 30:09there's a big word. There.
- 30:11To be a propitiation propitiation.
- 30:16Circle that word. You can write next to it atoning
- 30:20sacrifice. Or.
- 30:23You want to know, you know, and how this connects with our Bible
- 30:25study. You could write next to it.
- 30:27Mercy seat. Jesus is our mercy.
- 30:31Seat. Our atoning sacrifice.
- 30:35His blood, it says verse. 25 He's the propitiation, he's the
- 30:40offering, he's the satisfaction of God's wrath.
- 30:44He's the place where. He will meet God, meet God will
- 30:47meet with you, God will. Forgive you.
- 30:50God will cleanse you where? At the mercy seat at Christ.
- 30:58It says it's through his blood, through faith.
- 31:00Demonstrate His righteousness. Because of his.
- 31:03Forbearance or his mercy, His patience.
- 31:07That God. Has passed over the sins that
- 31:08were previously committed. Righteousness of God apart from
- 31:13the law is revealed. God rushes in to rescue and to
- 31:17help us and deliver us from ourselves.
- 31:21We don't use that word. Propitiation.
- 31:23I'm glad they kept it in the old King and the new King James.
- 31:25It's an old King James word. They kept it in the new King
- 31:28James. And I want you.
- 31:29I want you to remember. It because it's so odd.
- 31:31We don't use it anywhere else except in the church.
- 31:35It speaks of atoning victim. Or as I said.
- 31:38Already the mercy seat, Jesus is our propitiation.
- 31:42You and I should have died, but instead he died and hung on the
- 31:47cross. He suffered for me, He hung in
- 31:50agony for me. He gave his life.
- 31:52For me, Confucius didn't hang on a.
- 31:54Cross Buddha. Didn't hang on a cross.
- 31:57Muhammad didn't hang on a. Cross Jesus.
- 32:01Hung on a cross for you and me. That's why he can say he's the
- 32:07way. And the truth and the life, and
- 32:10no one comes to the Father except through him.
- 32:14That's the whole heart, the whole idea.
- 32:18It's not a narrow minded statement at times, you know.
- 32:21Jesus will be accused. Of being narrow minded.
- 32:23You and I will be accused of being narrow minded, but when it
- 32:27comes to matters of your own soul, you're going to want to
- 32:31know the truth. And there is only one way God is
- 32:36giving us the picture. Come back with me now to Exodus.
- 32:39This is the only place that the children of Israel would meet
- 32:44with God during this season. This is it.
- 32:47This is the only place where their sins would be dealt with
- 32:49on the mercy seat. The mercy seat that.
- 32:52Covers the law that covers the law God will provide his
- 33:01perfect. Son, and the question is, will
- 33:03you receive or reject him for the children of Israel coming
- 33:06out of Egypt coming out of. All this idolatry, all these.
- 33:10Foreign gods. It was.
- 33:11All of them you know that you're going to see in our study even
- 33:14later they they came out of Egypt but it.
- 33:16Was hard to get. Egypt out of them, you and I,
- 33:20we've come out of the. World, but there's this work.
- 33:22Of God, of getting the world out of us, purifying us, changing
- 33:27us, transforming our minds, renewing our minds, washing our
- 33:34lives. We can leave.
- 33:36The world, but we're still. In the world, and much of the
- 33:38world is still in US and God. Says this is the way.
- 33:44I want you to make. It this way.
- 33:47Well, why God? Which is an interesting
- 33:50question. I'm very grateful.
- 33:52That God allows us to ask it, but it's.
- 33:53Really not a question he's obligated to answer.
- 33:57Well, let me explain it to you, son.
- 33:58Everything. No, I told you what to.
- 34:00Just do it. Make the box.
- 34:03Get the right wood, get the gold, put the.
- 34:05Rings there's a right way and a wrong way and you want to do it
- 34:09the right way. It's a very simple lessons here
- 34:12because it matters. It matters that the testimony
- 34:15was inside not Well, you know, I want to rearrange the.
- 34:18Box a little bit, let's take the.
- 34:19Testimony out and we'll put it up on the angels.
- 34:21It'll look really nice and no. There's a.
- 34:24Reason why it's in the box because the law can't save you.
- 34:32The law is unable to save you. The law has only been.
- 34:37Kept by. The mercy seat.
- 34:41It's sealed in the box by the mercy seat.
- 34:46The mercy seat pointing to the propitiation to come, the one
- 34:49way of salvation, the precise fulfillment.
- 34:54Of God's prophetic. Promises of coming Messiah one
- 34:58way, one man, the eternal Son of.
- 35:02God, the cross of Jesus Christ is the place where you.
- 35:06Will find forgiveness and love and help with the sin that is so
- 35:11completely devastated. Your life.
- 35:14As we leave here today and we enter into the beauty of this
- 35:19coming weekend and we just think about his death and burial and
- 35:22resurrection, I want you to leave here just thinking God has
- 35:26done so much for you. He's done so much.
- 35:31He's so faithful to us. Even when we are faithless, He
- 35:35remains faithful. And you can come to Him at any
- 35:38time and any moment. And you can cast your lives upon
- 35:43the mercy of that's not, that's not how I was taught or that's
- 35:56not how my home was. And we were taught this and we
- 35:58were taught that. And I understand we all have
- 36:01received inaccurate teachings. Throughout our lives.
- 36:06But God has put me in your life. To declare to you to the truth.
- 36:09To undo all those false teachings, introduce.
- 36:13You to the God who loves you, that Jesus Christ fulfills all
- 36:17that the Bible. Says and even in the.
- 36:19Early stages as God is. Forming the nation, delivering
- 36:22them out of Egypt from their slavery, from their bondage,
- 36:26parting the Red Sea, bringing them in, taking care of their
- 36:30every need, even in their faithlessness.
- 36:33He continues to take care of everything because he has a plan
- 36:36and a purpose and even today, if you have why God know this God
- 36:42is not obligated to answer that question, although he may, but I
- 36:47can say this I'm so. Grateful that you're so close to
- 36:52God. That you would ask?
- 36:54Him why he's the. Right one to ask, he's the right
- 36:58one to come. To he's the right.
- 37:00One to yield your life. To.
- 37:03It's not what we have done for him, it's not what we will do
- 37:08for him, but man, God has done so much for us and we are
- 37:15grateful. Amen.
- 37:18So Lord, thank you for this little section not even covering
- 37:22everything that I wanted to. Cover, but so be it.
- 37:25You're enough. You have done so much for us,
- 37:30and may we be overwhelmed with a sense of your love and mercy in
- 37:35our lives. Let us come to the mercy seat
- 37:38today, the One who died and rose again for us.
- 37:42We love you, Jesus, forgive. Us for thinking that our good
- 37:46works in any way would merit all that you've done for us.
- 37:50Somehow we make You owe us. You don't owe.
- 37:53US. We owe you.
- 37:57May we live out our lives and humility and brokenness before
- 38:00you, Lord, Enjoying you even as we have failed, Lord, and we
- 38:06fall short. Certainly I think of just a
- 38:09little thing with a test revealing my heart.
- 38:15Why? Why is it such a big deal?
- 38:19Why? Is it such a big deal?
- 38:22And I just yield. That to you, Lord I.
- 38:24Pray in my life, you say. I said in Psalm 139, Hey, search
- 38:28me and know me. Reveal to me if there's any
- 38:32unclean thing and I pray. That over us as.
- 38:35We come on this midweek study, we press in.
- 38:38Lord, we desire to know you, to learn from you to, to set aside,
- 38:43to, to. Seek you together, bless your.
- 38:46Children tonight, bless the kids, are going to wake up with
- 38:51a bad. Attitude because they.
- 38:54Were up a little late tonight. But so be it, Lord, they
- 38:58received your word. They're.
- 39:01Learning how important it is to be in fellowship.
- 39:04They're learning what it is to be in the.
- 39:06House of the Lord they're. Learning what it is to seek
- 39:09first the Kingdom of God. They're learning.
- 39:11What it is to rely? Upon you when we're tired and
- 39:15rely upon you when we're weak. There's so many lessons that we
- 39:19get to learn as we yield ourselves to you.
- 39:22So thank you God, you've done so much.
- 39:24You do so much for us wreck our. Schedules, Lord.
- 39:29And our agendas and our little things to keep peace when.
- 39:35You are our peace. You.
- 39:38Are our sufficiency and we. Follow you, Lord.
- 39:43If you're here today, you've never given your life to Jesus.
- 39:46I invite you to do that. Come to the propitiation.
- 39:50What a great word to learn on the night you get.
- 39:52Saved that Jesus is the. Place where God meets you, your
- 39:58Creator, where your sins are forgiven, where your life is
- 40:03given meaning and purpose and focus.
- 40:05At the cross, the blood of. Jesus Christ cleanses us from
- 40:09all sin. And I'm going to give you an
- 40:11opportunity today. If you'd say, pastor, I want to
- 40:14be born again, I want to follow Jesus my life, would you just
- 40:17stand to your feet? I want to pray with you.
- 40:18And that includes you guys watching or listening.
- 40:21The Lord sees and knows the privilege of your response.
- 40:27I was even reading in my DeVos this morning.
- 40:30Jesus said if you come to him, I won't.
- 40:31He says I won't cast you out. That's his word to.
- 40:35You, you come to me. I won't cast you out.
- 40:39I won't push you aside. I receive you.
- 40:47Jesus inviting you to follow Him.
- 40:48Anyone here? Today would be the day.
- 41:00So good, so faithful, so reliable.
- 41:07Lord, we pray that. As you move upon the hearts.
- 41:10Of your people. As the wrestlings and the
- 41:15fightings take. Place.
- 41:20There would be a surrender, something that some area, some
- 41:29issues, some we've been holding back.
- 41:35Oh, you revealed something. Why is it so important?
- 41:39We can hear heaven say. Why so important?
- 41:44And then we go, I don't know. Lord, forgive me help my own
- 41:48belief. So I pray over our church today,
- 41:53Lord. Help our unbelief, that we might
- 41:57be the men and women you desire us to be.
- 41:59And for those that respond anywhere and everywhere, you can
- 42:01ask God to forgive you. You can say God forgive me of my
- 42:05sins. I believe you sent Jesus to die
- 42:08for me, and I believe He rose again from the dead to save my
- 42:13soul. God will hear you and then come
- 42:18up and talk to one of the pastors.
- 42:20Talk to a. Believer in your life, share
- 42:25your life with them. Tell them about what God's doing
- 42:29and what you're hearing and what you're sensing.
- 42:32Pastors will even be up here if you want to pray.
- 42:35Just really need to wrestle with an issue in your life.
- 42:44Leave here with appreciation. Of all that God has done for
- 42:47you, we pray that you've been encouraged by this Bible study
