- 0:42people saying I love your

- 0:45when you're going live
- 0:47carolyn how can they know
- 0:48when we're going live
- 0:52You tell them every week.
- 0:53What do they got to do?
- 0:54Well,
- 0:54you've been going on Instagram and
- 0:56doing some, and they need to,
- 0:59first of all, they need to subscribe.
- 1:00They need to push that little notifier.
- 1:03And then when they watch the episode,
- 1:05or if they don't even watch the episode,
- 1:06you're going to like it.
- 1:08Yeah, exactly.
- 1:10Like, subscribe and hit the notifier.
- 1:12The notifier is the key, the little bell.
- 1:14It tells you when we go live.
- 1:15So you can jump on and catch
- 1:17all those interviews we did
- 1:18last week with James Craig, Alex Kazan,
- 1:21Elisa Fuliano.
- 1:23And you can catch those live.
- 1:26They all were awesome this week.
- 1:28They were just in a...
- 1:31More than me, it was them.
- 1:32They just were awesome to
- 1:33talk to and very open and
- 1:35honest about a lot of things.
- 1:37And I appreciate them for
- 1:38coming on and doing that.
- 1:40That was incredible.
- 1:42So anything going on big
- 1:45this weekend for you guys?
- 1:48Just got out and golfed for Father's Day.
- 1:51Nine holes or 18 or 18?
- 1:55How long does that take you?
- 1:58I actually thought it was quick.
- 1:59Like it was really busy.
- 2:01And we had Lucas with us and
- 2:05he doesn't golf very often at all.
- 2:07So, but I, I mean,
- 2:09I think we were only like four,
- 2:12four hours and 20 minutes
- 2:13with a pretty long stop at the turn.
- 2:16So I would say we were two
- 2:18hours or less per nine.
- 2:22I went home this weekend and
- 2:23saw my nephew and niece.
- 2:27One of my nephew is in
- 2:30Edmonton right now with my
- 2:32sister and her husband.
- 2:33They went to the Oilers game.
- 2:35They were on TV, actually.
- 2:36They were getting interviewed.
- 2:39that's cute um he's he's
- 2:42like my one nephew that has
- 2:43special needs and uh he's
- 2:44like has his wheelchair all
- 2:46decorated it's it's really
- 2:48cool so I didn't get to see
- 2:49him this time around but I
- 2:51got to see two of my
- 2:52nephews and my niece and
- 2:54then my family and today we
- 2:55had lunch for um father's day so
- 2:59Then I drove back home and on the way home,
- 3:01I took a pit stop to see my
- 3:03older sister and her dog
- 3:05for like a quick 30 minutes
- 3:06before she was going to the gym.
- 3:09And now I'm home.
- 3:10So good weekend.
- 3:13Damien subscribed, liked, and membership.
- 3:16Nice.
- 3:16Yeah,
- 3:17you can support the show by
- 3:18membership too.
- 3:18We don't even throw that in very often,
- 3:20but as little as $2.99 a month,
- 3:23you can support the show.
- 3:24It's a little cash to be
- 3:25able to go to different
- 3:26events and do some things.
- 3:28So if you'd like to do that,
- 3:29hit that join button as well.
- 3:32So thank you very much.
- 3:35Um, yeah,
- 3:36I went to Indianapolis this
- 3:37weekend with my mom,
- 3:39went to the U S Olympic
- 3:40swimming trials and got
- 3:42like an appetizer of it all.
- 3:44It actually goes on for eight days.
- 3:46We just went to the first day.
- 3:47Um,
- 3:50Well,
- 3:50what was cool is we got to see the
- 3:52finals of the 400 freestyle
- 3:54for both men and women.
- 3:55And that was my event in
- 3:57high school and in college.
- 4:00And so it was fun to watch
- 4:01that because I could like
- 4:03compare times and see how
- 4:04much better they are than I
- 4:05was back then.
- 4:08But it was in the football
- 4:10stadium to have a swimming pool.
- 4:13and like you walk in and it
- 4:14smells it has that like
- 4:17swimming pool humidity it
- 4:19had the swimming pool feel
- 4:21to it all it even in a
- 4:23football stadium and um and
- 4:26it was a rock show they
- 4:29they did such a cool job
- 4:30with the athletes at the
- 4:31finals they had a 70 foot tall
- 4:34screen where as each athlete
- 4:36came out they walked out
- 4:38underneath the 70-foot
- 4:39screen and then there was a
- 4:40big picture of them in a
- 4:42pre-production pose um
- 4:45coming out as they
- 4:46announced each lane they
- 4:48had lasers and lights and
- 4:51all kinds of stuff for the
- 4:52thing it was it was really
- 4:54cool and to get to see
- 4:55katie ledecky make it to
- 4:57her fourth olympic games
- 4:59was super awesome she's a
- 5:01legend hall of famer and uh
- 5:04was was super fun to see
- 5:05that and then we got
- 5:07surprised with the
- 5:08semi-finals of the women's
- 5:09hundred fly where uh
- 5:12gretchen walsh broke the
- 5:14world record in the hundred
- 5:15fly in the semi-final in
- 5:17the semi-final oh damn
- 5:20yeah it was insane um
- 5:23goosebumps when she did it
- 5:25like we were screaming the
- 5:26whole crowd's going nuts
- 5:28there are 20 over 20 000
- 5:29people there to watch is it
- 5:32a dome like it's closed
- 5:34right yep yeah they have a
- 5:37retractable roof but they
- 5:38did not open open that so
- 5:41but yeah it broke the
- 5:42record for biggest um
- 5:43swimming event ever um with
- 5:45over 20 000 fans
- 5:48And it was insane.
- 5:49So, yes, the times were so fast,
- 5:52and the swimmers were talking about it,
- 5:53that they couldn't lay up for the semis.
- 5:56They had to go, like,
- 5:58all out just to make it to
- 5:59the next round.
- 6:01And just a hint,
- 6:03in the men's semis for the
- 6:05100-meter breaststroke,
- 6:06there were 10 times within
- 6:0952 one-hundredths of a
- 6:10second of each other.
- 6:12And they only took the top eight.
- 6:14Oh, man.
- 6:15Yeah.
- 6:18So that's how insane it was.
- 6:2252 one-hundredths of a second.
- 6:24That's crazy.
- 6:25But the one thing I do want
- 6:27to kind of compare CrossFit,
- 6:29what I love about swimming
- 6:30and watching it is you get
- 6:32to see the whole race.
- 6:34We were watching it after
- 6:36golf and I was like, man,
- 6:38if CrossFit could just take
- 6:40a tiny bit of this, like the lane mark,
- 6:44the lanes with their names across it,
- 6:45the whole, I was like,
- 6:47there's like 10 lanes and
- 6:48you can see what's
- 6:49happening in all 10 lanes.
- 6:51Yeah, it's mostly side view.
- 6:53You can see who's ahead and who's not.
- 6:56And then once it's over,
- 6:57then they cut to the
- 6:59highlight reels of
- 7:00individual people or things
- 7:02so you can see more about it.
- 7:05And I wish that CrossFit
- 7:07would take a note from that.
- 7:09Yeah.
- 7:10Especially on sprint events.
- 7:12Let us see the whole thing.
- 7:13When it's done,
- 7:14then show us the close-up
- 7:15shots of the person winning or whatever.
- 7:18And I love what Lex is saying.
- 7:21Lex got a really good view
- 7:23of what a normal person
- 7:24looks like in the water
- 7:25when she was on the
- 7:28paddleboard last year at
- 7:29NorCal Classic and watching me swim.
- 7:35Kenneth says,
- 7:36that's probably the $40,000 stream.
- 7:38CrossFit can barely afford the $20,000.
- 7:40It would be cheaper to have
- 7:42the side camera than all
- 7:44the cameras on the floor.
- 7:46That's what I like.
- 7:47I don't,
- 7:47I'd rather they get rid of those
- 7:48people on the floor.
- 7:50Like they don't pick the good shots.
- 7:51Just put, yeah,
- 7:53just put the stationary camera,
- 7:54take the manpower out of it.
- 7:56And I think you'd have happier fans.
- 7:59Now,
- 7:59now what's cool about the camera on
- 8:01the sideline for the pool
- 8:02is it's on a track and it
- 8:04runs with the swimmers down
- 8:06the track and then it comes back.
- 8:08So you just, it just moves for it.
- 8:10So it's not stationary.
- 8:12It's pretty freaking,
- 8:13that probably is 40 grand.
- 8:16Sarah Cooper says,
- 8:17I'm more of a lazy river
- 8:18margarita and hand type swimmer.
- 8:23What was also insane is how
- 8:24many like swim clubs were there.
- 8:27like full swim teams were
- 8:30all in there decked out in
- 8:31their shirts and stuff.
- 8:34But because swimming is a
- 8:36lot like CrossFit on the female side,
- 8:38there are 14-, 15-,
- 8:4116-year-olds competing.
- 8:42And when they denounced the
- 8:44school they were with,
- 8:45there were some that were
- 8:46like the Sheboygan YMCA.
- 8:53And the, um,
- 8:55instead of like university of
- 8:56Maryland or USC, they had those two,
- 8:59but then it was like, you know,
- 9:02Pittsburgh downtown YMCA or
- 9:05this swim club or,
- 9:07and then the kid who won
- 9:08the 400 meter freestyle for
- 9:10the men was an Indianapolis hometown kid.
- 9:14And that was, that was insane.
- 9:17So, um,
- 9:22Dan Church says,
- 9:23I feel there was an uproar
- 9:24with the stationary camera
- 9:25with the Masters.
- 9:27Too soon?
- 9:28There's a stationary camera
- 9:30and there's a side angle camera.
- 9:32We're talking about two different things.
- 9:34Yeah.
- 9:36So,
- 9:37but if you ever get a chance to go to
- 9:38one of these things, it's really fun.
- 9:41Um, we had a blast.
- 9:43My only regret is we should have went,
- 9:45we should have bought two
- 9:46or three days of tickets
- 9:47because it was like the
- 9:48appetizer to the week and
- 9:50it would have been cool to
- 9:51like stay for a couple of
- 9:52days and kind of take in
- 9:54some more of the events.
- 9:55How did your mom like it?
- 9:57My mom could not have been happier.
- 10:00She was ecstatic for the whole thing.
- 10:03She is an Olympic nut.
- 10:05When August comes,
- 10:06she will be in front of her
- 10:07TV for two weeks straight.
- 10:10And she'll watch all the trials too.
- 10:13That's what she'll do for
- 10:13the next two weeks.
- 10:15She said the same thing.
- 10:16Wish we would have stayed.
- 10:18She goes,
- 10:18I would have taken my whole
- 10:19vacation budget for the
- 10:20year to stay a couple more
- 10:22days and do this.
- 10:26And it was really great.
- 10:27So glad we did that.
- 10:32So let's jump into some CrossFit stuff.
- 10:36Let's start with Josh
- 10:38Woolley is the head coach of Mammoth.
- 10:42And that is the coach of Jack Farlow,
- 10:46Emma Lawson, and Erica Folow.
- 10:49and he was doing kind of
- 10:51like a debrief while
- 10:52driving his car about how
- 10:55semifinals went and in that
- 10:57debrief made the statement
- 10:59that um that there was a
- 11:03point in time this season
- 11:05where they weren't sure
- 11:06whether emma was going to compete or not
- 11:09And they had to really work
- 11:10on her mental health to get
- 11:11her back in the game and
- 11:14back into competing.
- 11:16And so I wanted to talk
- 11:17about that because I talked
- 11:18about that with Alex Kazan last week,
- 11:21and she had a great response.
- 11:23And I can go ahead and play that,
- 11:25and then we can talk about it.
- 11:27So I'm going to pull up
- 11:28Instagram really quick.
- 11:33And sure I am.
- 11:38Oh, pause.
- 11:39There we go.
- 11:39And share screen.
- 11:42Here we go.
- 11:49And she's music.
- 11:51Especially like ice.
- 11:52Like I watched the CrossFit
- 11:53games a couple of years before I made it,
- 11:56like I was there and, um,
- 11:58I didn't follow like a training regimen.
- 12:00I just kind of like did what I wanted.
- 12:02It's really easy to
- 12:03glamorize the life of a CrossFit athlete,
- 12:07and I was really guilty of it as well.
- 12:09You just see Instagram and you're like,
- 12:10wow, that's the most perfect life.
- 12:14You get paid to train and
- 12:16work out and compete and
- 12:18all eyes are on you.
- 12:20But I feel like for me, this last year,
- 12:25once you get to a certain level,
- 12:27You're no longer,
- 12:28it doesn't quite feel like
- 12:29you're climbing this mountain.
- 12:30It feels like other people
- 12:32are trying to drag you off the mountain.
- 12:37And I'm not even like the
- 12:38fittest on earth.
- 12:39Like I'm fit when I feel that way.
- 12:46So thoughts?
- 12:51Well, I see...
- 12:53aaron said here seems like
- 12:55something is up with jack
- 12:56and emma and I've I feel
- 12:58like a lot of us have seen
- 12:59those kind of comments um
- 13:02and I am curious if there
- 13:04is something to do with
- 13:04that nobody's really spoken
- 13:08on it other than just now
- 13:09hearing about this from her
- 13:10coach that she you know
- 13:12trying to get her mental
- 13:13state in there I don't I
- 13:14don't think we have a
- 13:17a reasoning behind that.
- 13:19If it's a pressure thing,
- 13:20if it's a Jack and Emma thing, I mean,
- 13:24it's purely speculation at this point.
- 13:27Um,
- 13:30We've talked about in the
- 13:31past that Emma seemed the
- 13:32most level-headed when we
- 13:33talked about all the
- 13:34younger girls going through this.
- 13:36So it is surprising to hear
- 13:38that she was in this state
- 13:40of mind and considering not competing.
- 13:41Yeah,
- 13:43I'd be very curious as to what
- 13:46exactly led up to that.
- 13:52I think the easy,
- 13:53easy thing to say is Jack and Emma,
- 13:54but this is happening with not just them.
- 13:58It's happened with Haley
- 14:00Adams and Mal O'Brien and
- 14:02like the list keeps growing and growing.
- 14:04So it may not be that simple.
- 14:08And we just heard from Alex
- 14:10talking about there's a
- 14:13point where it changes for you.
- 14:16And with this conversation
- 14:17went on to like you have to
- 14:20– because you can't make
- 14:21money just training.
- 14:23You have to make money as an influencer,
- 14:25and there's pressures with that.
- 14:27And you have to be on the internet,
- 14:29and it subjects you to a lot of things.
- 14:34Yeah, because like –
- 14:35I mean, a lot of those top athletes,
- 14:39their salary is dependent
- 14:40on their performance,
- 14:41which is already something
- 14:43that puts a lot of pressure
- 14:46on you just to have to
- 14:47perform so that you have
- 14:48that extra income.
- 14:50And then
- 14:51for athletes like Emma that
- 14:53do have those top
- 14:54sponsorship dollars and stuff,
- 14:55they have some obligations to post things,
- 14:57which is why I think
- 14:58sometimes having a good agent,
- 15:00which she does with Snorri,
- 15:02and they kind of guide them
- 15:04in terms of the social media posting,
- 15:08and sometimes someone might
- 15:09just need someone else to
- 15:11take that off their plate
- 15:12for them so that they don't
- 15:14have to be on social media as much.
- 15:16It seems like she still has...
- 15:19some sort of balance,
- 15:20like she was able to like
- 15:22do certain things,
- 15:23maybe go for hikes and
- 15:25stuff with Jack and goes to
- 15:28prom and stuff like that.
- 15:29But I still think it's a,
- 15:32it's a tough sport.
- 15:33Like it's an individual sport.
- 15:34You're oftentimes by yourself,
- 15:36whether she's at home doing her workouts.
- 15:40It's just a long,
- 15:42and hard life like training
- 15:44all day and and missing a
- 15:45lot of things like even
- 15:47though she could be
- 15:47attending certain things
- 15:48like it still is just very
- 15:50hard mentally to to do that
- 15:53almost all year round um so
- 15:56I mean I can't say I'm
- 15:57surprised um like people
- 16:01can show that they're
- 16:01level-headed all they want
- 16:03on social media but you
- 16:04know we're all going
- 16:05through things and it is
- 16:07tough like so um hopefully she can
- 16:11find the right support and
- 16:16continue to compete.
- 16:19But if she doesn't,
- 16:21it's not the end of the world.
- 16:22There's other things that they can do.
- 16:29Yeah.
- 16:32It's so tough,
- 16:33and it seems like once you
- 16:36get past a certain age,
- 16:37then I don't know if it's
- 16:38easier to handle.
- 16:39I mean,
- 16:40you've done this for a couple years now,
- 16:42Carolyn.
- 16:42There's pressures with it, I'm sure,
- 16:44even at your age.
- 16:46But that's,
- 16:46but I feel like my pressure is
- 16:48different because I have a full-time job.
- 16:50And like, at the end of the day,
- 16:52like I didn't qualify this year.
- 16:53I didn't qualify last year.
- 16:54It's like, okay,
- 16:55I go back to school as a teacher,
- 16:57not in school.
- 16:58Um, I go back to work and yeah, it sucks.
- 17:02It stings.
- 17:03It's frustrating,
- 17:04especially that first week back.
- 17:05Like you're just seeing a
- 17:06lot of posts of stuff and
- 17:07you're just kind of trying to ignore it.
- 17:08But it's like, for me,
- 17:10life goes on and I have
- 17:13another source of income
- 17:15with teaching and,
- 17:17and having that balance there is,
- 17:19is huge for me.
- 17:21You know, like I want,
- 17:23like it makes me want to
- 17:24play sports again,
- 17:25just doing other things.
- 17:26Like I miss being an athlete.
- 17:28Like I miss playing sports.
- 17:29Like I want to play soccer again.
- 17:31I want to go and not be
- 17:33scared to be injured for my
- 17:34sport of CrossFit.
- 17:35Like I,
- 17:37it just,
- 17:38it opens up other doors where I
- 17:39think that other people can
- 17:40have a balanced life.
- 17:42Um,
- 17:43so I don't know if I can consider
- 17:44myself in the same position,
- 17:45even though like I'm older,
- 17:47just because I have
- 17:49something else in my life.
- 17:50Like it just, it just helps in times where,
- 17:52you know, you do get that pressure.
- 17:54You feel that pressure.
- 17:55You are sad.
- 17:56You're like, okay,
- 17:57you're busy doing something else.
- 17:59That's not related to CrossFit.
- 18:01And it just kind of fulfills
- 18:02your day in a different way.
- 18:04I think a lot of these
- 18:05athletes don't have that.
- 18:07They don't have that other outlet.
- 18:11That's a completely
- 18:12different thing than
- 18:13CrossFit where if you take CrossFit away,
- 18:16are they okay?
- 18:17You know, for me,
- 18:18like if I'm not competing in this,
- 18:20like if I'm not qualifying,
- 18:22like I still love CrossFit
- 18:24and training and the community of,
- 18:28you know,
- 18:28of people that I have at my
- 18:30affiliate of CrossFit Coliseum.
- 18:31Like I love my people there.
- 18:35Whether I'm training for a
- 18:36competition or I'm just training,
- 18:37I'm still going to continue
- 18:38to do CrossFit,
- 18:40and that's not going to change.
- 18:42A lot of people train alone at their gym,
- 18:45at their house,
- 18:45so they don't have that
- 18:46community of people as much.
- 18:48It doesn't even matter what
- 18:49place you finish.
- 18:51I went to Sarnia this weekend,
- 18:52and that's my home where my parents live.
- 18:56like the amount of members
- 18:57that followed me at
- 18:58semifinals and they didn't care.
- 19:00I finished in the 20th,
- 19:02something like that.
- 19:02Like they were so excited for me.
- 19:04And like, you know,
- 19:07that's why you go to an affiliate.
- 19:08That's why you,
- 19:09you stay in that affiliate and you,
- 19:11and you make connections
- 19:12with members and all around the world.
- 19:15Like that, that's,
- 19:16that's another type of
- 19:17balance that you can have with,
- 19:19with the sport.
- 19:21Yeah, it's a couple things here.
- 19:24Lex said,
- 19:25I think it's different for a
- 19:2730-year-old than it is a 20-year-old.
- 19:30And it's probably because
- 19:34you have different
- 19:34perspectives in life at that point.
- 19:37The other thing that Alex
- 19:39said is that being an
- 19:40athlete has put such a
- 19:41strain on her relationship with Jake.
- 19:44Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
- 19:47They have one day off and she's tired.
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:51I actually, I think fortunately,
- 19:54like having the Masters and whatnot,
- 19:59it's obviously easier to
- 20:01make the Masters.
- 20:02But if there wasn't, I think you might see,
- 20:06it surprises me, honestly, that like,
- 20:09people like Ariel and Kara
- 20:12are able to keep doing this.
- 20:13Cause I find that I am like Alex said,
- 20:17it's a very selfish sport.
- 20:19I am extremely selfish and I
- 20:22don't think I could keep doing this.
- 20:26If like, if I was in their shoes and,
- 20:31and wasn't making money,
- 20:35well, they're making money.
- 20:36So where Alex went,
- 20:38Alex kind of lost me in
- 20:39that a little bit.
- 20:40Um, but like, I couldn't,
- 20:42if I was like 26 and just had Lucas,
- 20:46I don't know that I could
- 20:47do this without having a
- 20:50monetary income from it
- 20:52because the self that
- 20:53selfishness doesn't make
- 20:54sense at that point.
- 20:57Um, and like,
- 21:00Alex is able to do it
- 21:01because she's monetarily gaining from it.
- 21:03Like that's why she's able
- 21:04to sacrifice and have one day with Jake.
- 21:08I'm I,
- 21:08it sometimes surprises me how
- 21:10selfish I am with my time.
- 21:11Like there are times that I
- 21:12don't want to go like Alex said,
- 21:14don't want to go out and do a hike.
- 21:16Don't even want to go golfing 18 holes.
- 21:19Like my back hurts and I
- 21:20don't even want to play
- 21:21golf with my mom on Tuesday nights.
- 21:22Like there's things that like,
- 21:25I don't want to go to my
- 21:26cousin's bachelor party,
- 21:28bachelorette party.
- 21:28Like,
- 21:30I should be able to enjoy these things.
- 21:31And I don't always want to
- 21:34because I'm tired.
- 21:34I agree.
- 21:39I think that's a lot of it.
- 21:42But you have enough life
- 21:43experience to kind of like
- 21:45push through that at times.
- 21:47Where I think when you're 19, 18, even 20,
- 21:51those are all new kinds of
- 21:53things for you.
- 21:56And it's like the new followers,
- 21:57the new sponsorships, the new...
- 22:00swag that's just like the
- 22:02popularity like there's
- 22:03just like other types of
- 22:04things I get it's different
- 22:07yeah it's different before
- 22:10everybody goes off in wild
- 22:11stories the crutches behind
- 22:14jamie are her husband's
- 22:15from a surgery he had six months ago
- 22:20Uh, yeah, I guess it was.
- 22:22Yeah.
- 22:23Round is,
- 22:23I think it was right after right
- 22:26around Christmas.
- 22:27Yeah.
- 22:27Yeah.
- 22:28They're the house crutches.
- 22:29Jamie does not have any need
- 22:31for the crutches at this moment.
- 22:33If you,
- 22:33if you didn't have the master's division,
- 22:35um, to compete,
- 22:39would you train less and
- 22:40then do other things?
- 22:42Probably.
- 22:42I don't, yeah.
- 22:43Like I don't even know what I would be,
- 22:46what would I be aiming for?
- 22:48Because, like, for me, I need to, like,
- 22:50I love competing.
- 22:51It keeps me motivated.
- 22:52It keeps me, like, okay, like, it's like,
- 22:54you know, you don't qualify for summits.
- 22:56It's like, hey, what's the next thing that,
- 22:57you know,
- 22:57I'm kind of training for so I
- 22:58don't get so lazy?
- 23:01Like, I like competing.
- 23:02I would probably find, you know,
- 23:03like something like a high rocks.
- 23:04You know, I'm not a great runner distance.
- 23:06I'd find a sport like a, you know, pickup,
- 23:11whatever, volleyball,
- 23:12beach volleyball league,
- 23:13a summer softball league.
- 23:16you know, find any type of sport to play.
- 23:18Like I'd want to find
- 23:19something that I can still
- 23:21stay active and play and have fun.
- 23:23Um,
- 23:24like if there wasn't like cross at
- 23:26competitions, like for like older people,
- 23:29I'd probably train less and
- 23:29just find other sports.
- 23:31Like I just like competing.
- 23:32I like, I like playing sports.
- 23:34Oh, I do too.
- 23:35I probably would train less.
- 23:37Yeah.
- 23:38And Aaron and I talked about that,
- 23:39this a little bit yesterday.
- 23:41Um,
- 23:44you know if if CrossFit
- 23:45hadn't got so big and like
- 23:48and people and people did
- 23:50take things like kind of
- 23:51like how like Scott
- 23:51Pantrick has said like he's
- 23:53backed way off and he just
- 23:54does class and he feels a
- 23:55whole lot better like can
- 23:58you imagine if like we like
- 24:00you didn't dive head first
- 24:01into this and try to spend
- 24:03three four hours a day
- 24:04training yourself into like
- 24:05where you're just in you're
- 24:07sore every single day and
- 24:08nothing ever feels good
- 24:09like we would probably feel like
- 24:13pretty great humans and and
- 24:15be really fit and we just
- 24:17we don't really even know
- 24:17what we're missing at this
- 24:18point because we're
- 24:18training ourselves into the
- 24:19ground for god knows what
- 24:26for life I feel like I've
- 24:28ripped a band-aid off I
- 24:34just think it's an
- 24:35interesting topic because
- 24:38we're at a point where
- 24:41if the sport doesn't grow, like the,
- 24:44the money to support these
- 24:45kids are not going to be there to do,
- 24:46to do this.
- 24:48Right.
- 24:48Yeah.
- 24:49And
- 24:50And this is only going to
- 24:53grow in different directions.
- 24:54The last thing I'm going to
- 24:55say is I asked Alex this question.
- 24:58If you could make money by
- 24:59doing competitions like these,
- 25:03like doing your
- 25:04quarterfinals live on air
- 25:06or beat Taylor or some of
- 25:09these other things, like reps ahead,
- 25:11things like that,
- 25:13would you rather do that
- 25:14than do the postings for
- 25:16Reebok and so and so?
- 25:18And she said, absolutely.
- 25:19Absolutely.
- 25:22And so I do think there's
- 25:23pressures with the
- 25:24sponsorship type model that
- 25:28the athletes are making
- 25:29their money through.
- 25:32And it's a shame that people
- 25:34can make more money doing
- 25:36their quarterfinals live in
- 25:37a group than they can by
- 25:39winning a semifinal.
- 25:41Yeah.
- 25:42Or top five in the open.
- 25:44Yeah.
- 25:45I mean,
- 25:45top five in the open makes more
- 25:46money than winning a semifinal.
- 25:50There's a lot of things out
- 25:52of whack that we got to figure out.
- 25:55But anyway.
- 25:57But I think the mental part
- 25:58of it is just always going to be there.
- 26:00That's in every sport, you know,
- 26:04and it's getting harder and harder,
- 26:05I think,
- 26:06with the newer generation and the
- 26:08amount of social media that's out there.
- 26:09And, like,
- 26:10we never had as much pressure through,
- 26:13like,
- 26:13the social media part when we were
- 26:14younger because we could
- 26:15just compete and we would
- 26:16show up and you would hear
- 26:17about certain athletes in
- 26:18the papers and stuff.
- 26:19But it's just a completely different –
- 26:24athletic world now.
- 26:25Like you have to sell
- 26:26yourself as an athlete
- 26:27continuously to try to get
- 26:29sponsorships so that you
- 26:31can be a full-time athlete
- 26:33and not have to have a secondary income.
- 26:36Um, cause you know, at the end of the day,
- 26:37like you want to be a full-time athlete,
- 26:38like it's much easier, I guess,
- 26:40for your sport, but, um,
- 26:43it just comes with the
- 26:44territory of being a full-time athlete.
- 26:45You have to be a full-time
- 26:47promoter of yourself.
- 26:49Uh, so it's how to calc in you,
- 26:51distinguish yourself from
- 26:52the other athlete.
- 26:54Are you going to be someone
- 26:55else online so that you can
- 26:56get these sponsorships versus, you know,
- 26:59actually just being your
- 27:00authentic self and not, you know,
- 27:02not selling products that
- 27:03you don't care about.
- 27:04So, you know, it just, who do you want to,
- 27:08who do you want to be as a
- 27:09Instagram person or influencer?
- 27:12And some people make it more
- 27:14there than obviously their
- 27:15sporting career.
- 27:16Yeah.
- 27:18So your comment brought up a
- 27:20question that I have, and that is,
- 27:22you know, in a lot of sports,
- 27:25we say that the way Patrick
- 27:27Mahomes becomes Patrick
- 27:28Mahomes is because he is tough mentally.
- 27:33And like,
- 27:33he can throw an interception and
- 27:35the next play doesn't care
- 27:37and just goes out and
- 27:39throws like he did before, right?
- 27:40Goldfish.
- 27:42Are we...
- 27:44Are we making light of a
- 27:46situation that's just sports?
- 27:49Like every athlete has these
- 27:53points where they have to
- 27:54overcome or they're going to lose.
- 28:00I think this goes back in
- 28:03line with a lot of people
- 28:03lately being pushing for more like
- 28:06sanctionals back type.
- 28:07Like,
- 28:08Patrick Mahomes has multiple
- 28:10opportunities in one game
- 28:11to mess up and recover.
- 28:13You literally, like,
- 28:16somebody commented here about Anika.
- 28:18Like, her year is over, essentially.
- 28:21Like, you have one shot, and that's it.
- 28:24And you have to wait a whole
- 28:25other year to try again.
- 28:27And that is hard.
- 28:30That's, I think,
- 28:31where when you broached
- 28:32that question with
- 28:34Alex, like, of course,
- 28:36we would want like five
- 28:38separate competitions that
- 28:39we could just whether like
- 28:40if the open was its own
- 28:41competition and semifinals
- 28:42its own competition.
- 28:43And I mean,
- 28:44in Wadapalooza is kind of in
- 28:46rogue is like, but if those like,
- 28:48all mattered and could you got like,
- 28:53it just can't all come down
- 28:54to the CrossFit Games.
- 28:55I think that's what is so
- 28:56stressful for people.
- 28:58but I think that's what
- 28:59these other competitions are doing.
- 29:00Like some athletes, like,
- 29:01I don't know what podcast it was,
- 29:03but it was like, you know,
- 29:03someone like Lazar and even like,
- 29:07I feel like Freova,
- 29:08like they just do
- 29:09competitions all the time.
- 29:11And it's like,
- 29:13if you can just go to all of
- 29:14these like European
- 29:15competitions and get five
- 29:16grand this weekend,
- 29:17get a 10,000 this weekend.
- 29:19And like,
- 29:22the outside of the crossfit
- 29:23game season has a way
- 29:25higher earning opportunity
- 29:27for most of the athletes
- 29:29like only a handful of
- 29:31athletes at the games are
- 29:32really making significant
- 29:33money other than that you
- 29:35may as well go on all of
- 29:36these out of season
- 29:37competitions and make way
- 29:39more money than the
- 29:40crossfit game season and I
- 29:42think you're going to start
- 29:43seeing athletes do that
- 29:45Like where it's just like, okay,
- 29:46you don't make it out of the semifinals.
- 29:47Okay.
- 29:48I'm going to go to,
- 29:48I'm going to try to go to Rogue,
- 29:50Guadalupe, Madrid, um, crash,
- 29:53like all of these, like, you know, uh,
- 29:55major Dubai.
- 29:57And then kind of like the
- 29:58ones are underneath NorCal classic, um,
- 30:01and try to make way more money that way.
- 30:03Cause you know, a 10th place at the games,
- 30:07like you're getting that in
- 30:08a local competition.
- 30:10What does it say about
- 30:11someone like Konica who has
- 30:13faced all of these
- 30:16All of these, like one point out,
- 30:18three points out.
- 30:20Losing her spot.
- 30:22They cancel the team games
- 30:23the year she qualifies.
- 30:25It just,
- 30:26for not getting her thing to upload.
- 30:29Like all of these obstacles
- 30:30she's faced and she's still
- 30:32here battling.
- 30:34You know what I mean?
- 30:35Then you have like the
- 30:38people who are successful
- 30:39and they hit adversity and now,
- 30:43and then they get into
- 30:44these things where we got
- 30:44to take a year off.
- 30:48I think it says a lot about
- 30:50Anika as a person and what
- 30:52she can handle and how tough she is.
- 30:55Yeah, to keep coming back.
- 30:56Yeah.
- 30:58But that's just a side note for me.
- 31:04I think we beat that one to death.
- 31:07I think it's just interesting.
- 31:08It's something that we'll
- 31:09have to watch over the next year.
- 31:11But I want to move on to the
- 31:13Service Cup that went on last week.
- 31:16I'll be at that one as well.
- 31:20There's a lot of people.
- 31:24I heard it was a blast of a con,
- 31:25a competition.
- 31:28It was good.
- 31:29Minus the swim for me, but yeah,
- 31:32the venue was great.
- 31:33They're changing venues this year,
- 31:34but it just had like a cool
- 31:37summer feeling outdoor.
- 31:38People have their tents up.
- 31:40Like it just was a great community event.
- 31:43Um, Wolverine, everything was on time.
- 31:46Um, yeah, they put on, they put on great.
- 31:48They paid us right away there.
- 31:49Like it,
- 31:50It's great.
- 31:53Yeah,
- 31:53and there's going to be a lot of those.
- 31:54Crash.
- 31:56Have you seen the lineup for Metcon Rush?
- 31:59Essentially,
- 31:59everybody who just missed the
- 32:01games is going to Metcon Rush.
- 32:03Yeah, they hadn't asked me,
- 32:05but I don't want to.
- 32:07There's too many things going on.
- 32:08I'm going to enjoy a little
- 32:10bit more of my summer.
- 32:10Yeah,
- 32:12I could not believe the lineup they have.
- 32:14Looks like it's going to be a great comp,
- 32:15though.
- 32:16Yeah.
- 32:17I'm going to try to get out
- 32:17there for that.
- 32:18Um,
- 32:18I know thick boy is going to be there and,
- 32:21uh,
- 32:21I'm going to try to do some interviews
- 32:23that live at his booth and my con rush.
- 32:25So we'll try to do that.
- 32:28But something else that was
- 32:29going on this week is, uh,
- 32:33the service cup,
- 32:35which you just finished up.
- 32:37How'd that,
- 32:38we talked about it a little bit
- 32:39last week.
- 32:40You had done half of the workouts, uh,
- 32:42Yeah, I had done two out of the three.
- 32:44I finished up Daniel,
- 32:47which was the 50 pull-ups,
- 32:49the run with the thrusters,
- 32:51kind of like a pyramid out
- 32:52and back this week at school.
- 32:55I did it Tuesday.
- 32:57just before lunchtime.
- 32:59And it was, it was, I mean,
- 33:01it was a good workout.
- 33:01I hadn't done that one before.
- 33:02I just,
- 33:03it was just annoying to grab my
- 33:04phone after all the runs,
- 33:06go to the screen,
- 33:07come back to like magnetize
- 33:09it where it was,
- 33:09make sure everything is in
- 33:10frame for the next movement.
- 33:12But it was fun.
- 33:13It was good.
- 33:14Um, like I have my level two and I,
- 33:18I have to renew mine before September,
- 33:22end of September.
- 33:23So you could win a level one or level two.
- 33:25And then if you have your level two,
- 33:28you could also get three,
- 33:31three courses online for free.
- 33:33I'm still debating whether I
- 33:34want to do my level three.
- 33:35So I figured one,
- 33:39I've always participated in
- 33:40like the occupational games
- 33:42and everything.
- 33:44And then may as well,
- 33:46Do this one,
- 33:47try to be the fittest teacher.
- 33:49Didn't know if there was
- 33:49other like higher level teachers,
- 33:53like semi-final athletes
- 33:54that were gonna take part in it,
- 33:56but I did it and hopefully
- 33:58all my videos are good and
- 34:00then I can get some online
- 34:02courses covered.
- 34:04And my idea too is eventually,
- 34:07let's say I do have my level, like my,
- 34:09all my courses and they
- 34:10want to continue doing that
- 34:12is I'd like to give a
- 34:13scholarship to one of my
- 34:14students eventually and use it,
- 34:15hopefully use that code and, you know,
- 34:19give that to a student
- 34:21that's looking to go in
- 34:21kinesiology and is really
- 34:23interested in fitness and
- 34:24stuff like that.
- 34:25I think that would be cool.
- 34:26So that's another reason I
- 34:27want to hopefully accumulate these,
- 34:30these codes.
- 34:32Is the, is the leaderboard live?
- 34:34Yeah.
- 34:35Did you meet Dave?
- 34:37Yes, I did.
- 34:38Okay.
- 34:40I ended up winning all three
- 34:41of the workouts, which I was happy about,
- 34:44in all the divisions.
- 34:45Nice.
- 34:46Happy about that.
- 34:47Good redemption after my semifinal.
- 34:52Yeah.
- 34:52Well, that's awesome.
- 34:53I'm glad they brought that back.
- 34:55I think that's important,
- 34:56and glad they're going to do that.
- 35:00What was unique about this
- 35:01year is in the past,
- 35:03they put the occupational
- 35:04games either like through
- 35:06the open or they would run
- 35:07it at the same time as, let's say,
- 35:09the master's age group.
- 35:11And they were the same workouts.
- 35:12So people just kind of signed up for both.
- 35:14This time it was more, you know,
- 35:15it was just service cup,
- 35:17a special weekend or week
- 35:19of workouts just for for people like.
- 35:23you know, in those divisions,
- 35:25which I thought was unique.
- 35:26And a lot of the gyms ended
- 35:28up doing those workouts as well.
- 35:31I know our affiliate did the workouts.
- 35:37Okay, cool.
- 35:40I'm trying to find the RX Markier story.
- 35:44Was it in a story?
- 35:46Yes, it was a story.
- 35:49But Dave Newman posted...
- 35:53a video of explanation.
- 35:54Um, I can't find that one anymore,
- 35:57but I think it was a story only.
- 36:01Okay.
- 36:01He has it on the, uh, the RX CEO,
- 36:04RX marketer CEO.
- 36:05I just found it.
- 36:06Oh.
- 36:07Um,
- 36:08so I'm going to show that cause that's
- 36:10our next story and I
- 36:12haven't listened to this,
- 36:13so we'll just listen to it together live.
- 36:17Okay,
- 36:18the verdict is in and the Alex Smith
- 36:20grips are banned from CrossFit.
- 36:23They will not be allowed at
- 36:24the CrossFit Games.
- 36:26No, this is not a joke.
- 36:27After multiple conversations
- 36:29and emails with competition
- 36:30director Adrian Bosman,
- 36:32it has been determined that
- 36:33the Smith grips do not meet
- 36:35the hand protection
- 36:36guidelines as written in
- 36:38the 2024 rule book.
- 36:39But fear not.
- 36:41If you currently use Alex
- 36:43Smith grips and you are
- 36:44competing at the CrossFit
- 36:45Games in Dallas this August,
- 36:48Email info at rxmarketer.com
- 36:50and we will mail you a
- 36:52legal pair of Smith grips
- 36:54with a slight modification.
- 36:56They will be allowed on the
- 36:57competition floor so you
- 36:58can grip it and rip it.
- 37:04All right.
- 37:06So basically I saw a thing.
- 37:09They're stitched so thickly
- 37:13that it simulates a dowel.
- 37:15Mm-hmm.
- 37:16Um, and that's why they're illegal.
- 37:18Um, but they are illegal.
- 37:19I think it's cool.
- 37:21One, just to be clear,
- 37:22RX market was our first big
- 37:23sponsor on the show and
- 37:25they were a sponsor for a
- 37:26couple of years.
- 37:27So, um, you know,
- 37:30they've been very good to us.
- 37:31Dave is a great friend.
- 37:32Um,
- 37:34and I think it but I do
- 37:35think it's cool that they
- 37:37are willing to replace
- 37:39these free of charge for
- 37:40anybody because they want
- 37:42them to have something
- 37:42illegal at the crossfit
- 37:43games so great move on rx
- 37:46markers part part sure do
- 37:50you guys use anything like
- 37:51that or you just use the floppy grip
- 37:54I have bear complex.
- 37:57But most of them, I mean,
- 37:59even if they use the Alex Smith grips,
- 38:02when you flop them,
- 38:03are their hands on that part?
- 38:05Or are they just like on
- 38:07like the medium part of the grip?
- 38:12So I think they're shorter
- 38:13than like the traditional grips.
- 38:16You can't flop them like the traditional.
- 38:20But like my thing is,
- 38:21is like something like the frog grip.
- 38:24In the,
- 38:25in the rule book of the CrossFit games,
- 38:27they talk about, you know,
- 38:28not adding a grip that's very,
- 38:30I don't know, not sticky, but, uh,
- 38:34what is it called?
- 38:34Like getting additional.
- 38:38unfair advantage unfair
- 38:40advantage like to me I feel
- 38:41like some some of the grips
- 38:43right now are so sticky
- 38:45that that's more of an
- 38:48advantage than than the
- 38:49dowel almost like yeah
- 38:51you're stuck on you're
- 38:53literally stuck on on the
- 38:54rig so I'm I'm wondering
- 38:57whether there's going to be some
- 39:01I don't know,
- 39:02they're going to start
- 39:02looking at some of the
- 39:03different types of grips
- 39:04that are starting to come
- 39:05out there because, I mean,
- 39:06it can make a huge
- 39:08difference whether you're
- 39:09needing to chalk up between
- 39:12movements or between sets
- 39:14or if you just can...
- 39:16glue on the bar yeah um so
- 39:19what I don't know I think
- 39:20that's more of an advantage
- 39:21than I've never tried the
- 39:22frog grips but I've heard
- 39:24that they're so sticky
- 39:25right um so I'm just
- 39:28curious whether they'll
- 39:29start looking into all the
- 39:30materials that are actually
- 39:32being used um here's here's
- 39:36what I'm confused with so I
- 39:38have element 26 chocolate scripts
- 39:42And they're like a little
- 39:43bit of a rubber coating.
- 39:44And they, I wouldn't say they're tacky,
- 39:47but you don't need chalk
- 39:48and it sticks pretty good.
- 39:51Like,
- 39:51but not like so much that I'm going
- 39:53to knock out a bunch of stuff.
- 39:56But anyway,
- 39:57but if there's chalk on the bar,
- 39:59they're useless.
- 40:01Like if you get chalk on a chalkless grip,
- 40:03all of a sudden it's not
- 40:06effective at all.
- 40:07It's less than effective.
- 40:11You saw people at semifinal
- 40:12with a towel now literally coming,
- 40:14like when they come to the floor,
- 40:15they're coming to wipe the bars now.
- 40:19So that could be the same
- 40:21for the front grip.
- 40:22Yep.
- 40:23That's why they're doing it.
- 40:25Okay.
- 40:28Yeah, because I didn't, like, you know,
- 40:30at a community gym,
- 40:31like the bars aren't
- 40:32cleaned after every class.
- 40:34No.
- 40:35Right?
- 40:36And if there's chalk on the bar,
- 40:37like I might as well not
- 40:38even wear a grip.
- 40:39Yeah.
- 40:39Yeah.
- 40:40Cause it just slides right off.
- 40:42Yeah.
- 40:48So kind of says easy fix
- 40:50CrossFit supplies a gear at
- 40:51the games and you can only
- 40:51use their gear.
- 40:53Then all sponsorship deals are gone.
- 40:58And you've taken away
- 40:59another way for athletes to make money.
- 41:04And a lot of these companies
- 41:06are like small niche CrossFit companies.
- 41:08Like, you know, the grips, like,
- 41:11it's hard to tell them like, Oh,
- 41:12you can't have these grips anymore.
- 41:14And do you think,
- 41:18I don't know if I totally
- 41:19agree with that.
- 41:20Like just because everyone's
- 41:23wearing was wearing noble
- 41:25at the games doesn't mean
- 41:27they don't wear something
- 41:28else every other day in the gym, wherever,
- 41:31like,
- 41:32and that's what their daily videos show,
- 41:35like what they like to wear.
- 41:37So, um,
- 41:40I mean,
- 41:40I think you could probably get more
- 41:42traction out of your daily
- 41:46training posts with the
- 41:49item that you actually
- 41:50truly want to train with
- 41:53because you're forced to
- 41:54wear whatever at the games.
- 41:56See,
- 41:57I don't think we should go back to
- 41:58just like Bruce Ray and
- 42:00just like your hands.
- 42:02The workouts would have to
- 42:03significantly change if we
- 42:05were to not have grips.
- 42:08But there would be like...
- 42:10No butterflying as much like
- 42:12the like you couldn't have high,
- 42:14high volume gymnastics on on the bars.
- 42:18I mean,
- 42:18I get that you get used to it to a
- 42:20certain extent,
- 42:21but you want to see the
- 42:24best athletes be able to
- 42:25continue to finish the
- 42:26weekend and not have.
- 42:28you know,
- 42:28ripped up hands and bloody hands all over,
- 42:33right?
- 42:34So the grip is important for protection.
- 42:37It's just what's the line of
- 42:39protection and just completely unfair,
- 42:44right?
- 42:46Yeah.
- 42:48You already see bloody hands with grips.
- 42:52It's going to get 10 times worse without.
- 42:57And then it becomes almost a safety issue.
- 43:00Yeah.
- 43:02Yeah.
- 43:02I don't think anyone really
- 43:03is other than Bruce is
- 43:05purporting takeaway grips.
- 43:07I just,
- 43:08it shouldn't be a standard piece of gear.
- 43:10Maybe it maybe should be
- 43:12something that's provided
- 43:15if they want one level playing field.
- 43:20But I do want to say,
- 43:21if you're a smaller company
- 43:23like Bear Complex or
- 43:25Element 26 or Frog Grips,
- 43:28you're hoping to get that
- 43:31picture of your athlete at
- 43:33the games in their games
- 43:34gear with that thing on their wrist, hand,
- 43:39waist, whatever.
- 43:40That's a money shot for a sponsor.
- 43:45And I think when the
- 43:46everyday use in the gym
- 43:48doesn't have that same
- 43:49effect as seeing them at
- 43:51the games with it on.
- 43:54If you can get it.
- 43:59So, there's that.
- 44:04So here's the next update for us.
- 44:06Last week,
- 44:06I made a plea to our audience to,
- 44:11if they wanted us to cover
- 44:13the Masters CrossFit Games
- 44:15with a behind-the-scenes to
- 44:17reach out to the organizers,
- 44:20and some of you did, and it was awesome.
- 44:23Thank you so much.
- 44:25I got a text from Joe Linton
- 44:27the following day,
- 44:29asking for a meeting.
- 44:30I met with him last Thursday.
- 44:32He is excited to have us come and do that.
- 44:36We just have to make sure
- 44:37that we don't step on toes
- 44:39with other media being
- 44:42brought in to stream the event.
- 44:44So I had to do a write-up for them,
- 44:46sent that off.
- 44:48They're going to talk to the
- 44:49media company and see where
- 44:51it is that we can get approval,
- 44:53where we can't.
- 44:54But I'm optimistic that
- 44:56we're going to get pretty
- 44:57good approval for that and
- 44:59be able to bring you a
- 45:00behind-the-scenes of the
- 45:02Masters CrossFit Games.
- 45:04That's awesome.
- 45:05Good job.
- 45:08Thank you for the people that pushed this,
- 45:11and it's a good job, listeners.
- 45:14Yeah, there were some, especially one,
- 45:17that reached out
- 45:18immediately after the show.
- 45:22And so, yeah,
- 45:23we got an immediate response
- 45:24from Joe the next day.
- 45:26That's awesome.
- 45:29So, it's going to be awesome.
- 45:33Now...
- 45:37It's time for me to talk
- 45:38about something I saw on
- 45:42Barbell Spin this week that
- 45:44I needed to address.
- 45:48So.
- 45:55A little roof alert.
- 45:57I like it.
- 46:02I respect John Young.
- 46:04I respect Brian Spin so much.
- 46:07I watch their show every week.
- 46:10I'm going to preface this with that.
- 46:12I watch their show every stinking week.
- 46:16They put out a reel talking
- 46:19about Hattie Cano.
- 46:22I almost mispronounced her name.
- 46:23Hattie Cano.
- 46:25And it was cut.
- 46:26So I'm going to show you that first.
- 46:29And then we're going to look
- 46:30at the uncut version.
- 46:33So first,
- 46:34here is what they put out on Instagram.
- 46:38Hey, Jack Rosema, I think,
- 46:39because I think he had the best showing.
- 46:42Him and Hattie Cano.
- 46:43But I think Hattie Cano is a
- 46:44bit of a one-hit wonder.
- 46:45I don't think we're going to
- 46:46see her name again.
- 46:47No offense, Hattie.
- 46:49How dare you?
- 46:50She's coming on sevens.
- 46:52I know.
- 46:53And she's awesome.
- 46:53And I called her to make it.
- 46:55Nobody else called her to make it.
- 46:57Clydesdale did.
- 46:57Clydesdale did.
- 46:59Austin Hatfield's my best newcomer.
- 47:00And I say best newcomer.
- 47:03So that was the cut version.
- 47:08So looking at that,
- 47:09I should be thankful that
- 47:11they mentioned me,
- 47:11that I was someone who
- 47:13talked about Hattie Cano.
- 47:14But let's look at the uncut
- 47:16version real quick.
- 47:19Him and Hattie Cano.
- 47:21But I think Hattie Cano is a
- 47:22bit of a one-hit wonder.
- 47:23I don't think we're going to
- 47:23see her name again.
- 47:24No offense, Hattie.
- 47:26How dare you?
- 47:27She's coming on seven.
- 47:29I know.
- 47:30And she's awesome.
- 47:31And I called her to make it.
- 47:32Nobody else called her to make it.
- 47:34Patrick Clark.
- 47:36Not Patrick Clark.
- 47:37Clydesdale did.
- 47:38Clydesdale did.
- 47:39But he says everybody.
- 47:40That's because she was on his show.
- 47:42He says Saxon is going to win the game.
- 47:43So it's hard to take that seriously.
- 47:45But.
- 47:49I say that everybody's going
- 47:50to make the CrossFit Games.
- 47:52Back when we first had this discussion,
- 47:54Mr. Young.
- 47:56I sent you a clip showing
- 47:58you a screenshot of my Heat
- 47:59One app where I was only
- 48:01allowed to pick eight
- 48:03people to make the CrossFit Games.
- 48:06In that list of eight people
- 48:08was Hattie Canio.
- 48:11Mr. Spin, yes,
- 48:13she was on my show 15 times.
- 48:16But why was she on my show 15 times?
- 48:18Because we freaking care
- 48:20about the semifinal athletes,
- 48:22unlike a lot of other people.
- 48:26We interview all these people.
- 48:28We get to know them.
- 48:29We watch them at semifinals.
- 48:31We see who is on the up and
- 48:33coming and who is going to
- 48:35do well moving in season after season.
- 48:39In fact,
- 48:40my co-host sitting down there at
- 48:41the far right said Austin
- 48:43Hatfield was going to make
- 48:44the CrossFit Games two
- 48:46years ago at the Orlando semifinals.
- 48:50She has been saying that
- 48:51much longer than John Young.
- 48:54Because we see these people,
- 48:56and we're out there for every heat,
- 48:58and we watch all the semifinalists,
- 49:00and we know what's going on.
- 49:03The other thing is,
- 49:05I get sick and tired of
- 49:07this group of people who
- 49:09are in a texturing together,
- 49:10and I respect them all.
- 49:12And they can have that, that's fine.
- 49:14But you're not the only
- 49:15analyst in the space.
- 49:17And other analysts in the
- 49:18space can be right.
- 49:21We can watch this sport and
- 49:24make educated decisions on
- 49:26what's going on.
- 49:27And we can be right, too.
- 49:31Finally, I never,
- 49:33ever said that Saxon
- 49:34Pancheck was going to win
- 49:36the CrossFit Games.
- 49:39For the last two years,
- 49:40I've had nobody on top of
- 49:42the list to win the male
- 49:43CrossFit Games other than Jeff Adler.
- 49:46And I have been preaching
- 49:48that from the mountaintop.
- 49:51What I said was Saxon
- 49:54Pinchuk has been forgotten about.
- 49:56Everybody forgot because of
- 49:57his injury last year that
- 49:59he was a top five CrossFit
- 50:02Games athlete in his career.
- 50:05And if he had a good
- 50:09programming and a good season,
- 50:11he could surprise people at
- 50:13the semifinals,
- 50:14which at the beginning of
- 50:15this year's semifinals, I think he did.
- 50:19He showed up in a way that
- 50:20people were shocked because
- 50:23I watched the sport and I
- 50:25can make an educated
- 50:27decision on what's going on.
- 50:33That's my riff.
- 50:36Clip it.
- 50:41Man,
- 50:43I was watching that going to bed last
- 50:45Wednesday night and I sat up in my bed
- 50:50what the hell did he just
- 50:51say I think what what's
- 50:54hard is you interview all
- 50:56these people right so
- 50:57you're invested in their
- 50:59semi-final performance so
- 51:00it's hard like you want
- 51:02them all to do well right
- 51:03so I don't know if it's
- 51:04lost in that part is that
- 51:06you're cheering for all of
- 51:07them because you get to
- 51:08know them on a different
- 51:09level than maybe other
- 51:10analysts so I don't know if
- 51:11he's more going that route um
- 51:14But it's one thing to root for them.
- 51:16It's another thing to pick them.
- 51:19I picked eight people to
- 51:21qualify from the West.
- 51:23One of those eight people was Hattie Cano.
- 51:27I didn't pick everybody.
- 51:30I didn't pick Amy Hosking.
- 51:31Love Amy Hosking.
- 51:32One of my favorite people to interview.
- 51:34But I didn't pick her to go
- 51:35to the CrossFit Games.
- 51:37Gabby Spence has been on my show a ton.
- 51:39Love her to death.
- 51:40Didn't pick her to go to the
- 51:41CrossFit Games.
- 51:44There's a difference.
- 51:46I think it just comes down
- 51:47to the fact that it's their
- 51:50in-club and if you aren't in it,
- 51:52you don't get recognition
- 51:54and they aren't going to recognize us.
- 51:59They don't care.
- 52:00It takes them a second to
- 52:03even remember your name to
- 52:04say that you picked her.
- 52:06He did recognize me and that was fine.
- 52:08But then the backhanded
- 52:09thing afterwards to say, well,
- 52:12he picks everybody to go.
- 52:13No,
- 52:14I do the heat one app just like you do.
- 52:16I make my eight picks, my 10 picks,
- 52:18my 11 picks.
- 52:20And Lex always beats you.
- 52:21True.
- 52:24But when I make good picks,
- 52:27I deserve a little credit.
- 52:28For sure.
- 52:31And we,
- 52:31we even talked about some of the
- 52:33athletes in the East, right?
- 52:34Like,
- 52:35that we're going to be doing well.
- 52:38Like we,
- 52:38like we talked like you and I
- 52:40probably about Chloe and I was like, no,
- 52:41these are great workouts for her.
- 52:43And, um, you know,
- 52:46we know the athletes very well.
- 52:48You told me a week before these semis,
- 52:51Chloe has a really good
- 52:52chance at making it to the games.
- 52:53100%.
- 52:54When the workouts came out, I was like,
- 52:56yeah,
- 52:56she's – And I trusted – and after I
- 52:58interviewed her and I did
- 52:59the research on her, I was like, dang,
- 53:01she does not have any holes.
- 53:02And I said that to you a
- 53:04week before semis.
- 53:06Yeah, we had this talk.
- 53:08And who made the games?
- 53:09Chloe.
- 53:10Chloe.
- 53:13And I've talked about Fola
- 53:15since last year.
- 53:16I've seen her kind of come up, you know,
- 53:18she had a bad last event,
- 53:19but I think just the
- 53:20pressure came to her.
- 53:21But I think her time will come as well.
- 53:23She's a young athlete.
- 53:25You know, if that's what she wants, right,
- 53:27we know what's going on
- 53:28right now with a lot of the
- 53:29younger athletes and the
- 53:30pressure and stuff.
- 53:30But if that's the route that
- 53:32she decides to take,
- 53:33I think her future is very,
- 53:35very bright too.
- 53:36She's a very talented athlete for sure.
- 53:38And that seems like a very
- 53:41small hole to fill.
- 53:44heavy lunges you can work on
- 53:46that right and it she could
- 53:49have been fine it's just
- 53:50you know she just pushed a
- 53:51little bit under race day
- 53:53like it doesn't even mean
- 53:54it's a whole once you're at
- 53:55that failure you're at that
- 53:57failure like you that can
- 53:59happen on a chest to bar
- 54:00workout on a ring muscle-up
- 54:01workout doesn't mean you're
- 54:02bad at ring muscle-up it
- 54:02just means you just overdid
- 54:04it for that workout yep so
- 54:09um michael park they're not
- 54:13getting me down
- 54:14not getting me down but I'm
- 54:16not going to just stand
- 54:17here and be silent about it
- 54:18either not getting me down
- 54:23um so we may be uh this may
- 54:28be part two so one last
- 54:33time masters fitness
- 54:40collective my favorite
- 54:41competition in all the land
- 54:44And if you've been following this show,
- 54:46you know that me and the
- 54:48MFC are like that.
- 54:54Like that.
- 54:58This is what sucks about this.
- 55:00I love their venue.
- 55:02I love their competition.
- 55:04I love where it is.
- 55:05It is a great place if you
- 55:07love Masters athletes to go
- 55:09hang out with them and
- 55:11watch them compete at the highest level.
- 55:14but they cannot get out of
- 55:16their own freaking way.
- 55:20So I'm going to share my screen.
- 55:26Thank you to Holly Dugan for
- 55:28doing this out onto our
- 55:30story while I was in Indianapolis.
- 55:33That is not what I wanted.
- 55:37Uh-oh, nope.
- 55:39Got to use a different screen share.
- 55:41Hold on.
- 55:46There we go.
- 55:48Okay,
- 55:50so this year at Masters Fitness
- 55:54Collective,
- 55:55it was required for you to use
- 55:57the WeTime app to film your
- 56:00workout and submit them to the MFC.
- 56:05They promoted it as you
- 56:07could sign up for the free
- 56:08trial if you did not wanna
- 56:09pay for it and then submit your workouts.
- 56:13What athletes did after the
- 56:15free trial is they,
- 56:17after they submitted their workouts,
- 56:18was canceled so they would
- 56:20not be charged for the
- 56:22WeTime app afterwards.
- 56:25What was not foreseen is
- 56:27that canceling that
- 56:28subscription meant your links became,
- 56:31your videos became
- 56:33unwatchable by anybody.
- 56:38So,
- 56:39As you can see here,
- 56:41your links have expired and
- 56:42cannot be viewed.
- 56:44So the solution is
- 56:46resubscribe to the WeTime
- 56:48app and then your links
- 56:50become valid again.
- 56:53If you happen to save the
- 56:54video to another location,
- 56:57you can then upload it to
- 56:59another platform and send
- 57:01that link to them.
- 57:04Or if you don't do either of these things,
- 57:06you get an automatic zero
- 57:07for the workout.
- 57:11And here's what I have a problem with.
- 57:14They come up with these
- 57:15great ideas at Masters Fitness Collective,
- 57:18and then when it doesn't go seamlessly,
- 57:20they put the burden back on the athlete.
- 57:26Like these athletes don't
- 57:27have enough to worry about,
- 57:29especially the Masters
- 57:30athletes working full-time jobs, kids,
- 57:33families, the whole bit.
- 57:34They don't have enough to worry about.
- 57:36Now they've got to
- 57:36resubscribe to something or
- 57:39hope they've freaking saved
- 57:40it and can put it up to
- 57:41another platform or all the
- 57:44work they did is for naught.
- 57:46Because the Masters athletes
- 57:47are the best with technology as well.
- 57:49Exactly.
- 57:49Exactly.
- 57:51We know those 55 to
- 57:5359-year-olds are great with all the apps.
- 58:02Every year,
- 58:03there's something that MFC does
- 58:05that makes it impossible
- 58:08for people to submit their stuff.
- 58:14And Jamie can tell you,
- 58:15you go to Fort Wayne,
- 58:17it is an awesome venue.
- 58:18It is an awesome place.
- 58:20They have great ideas,
- 58:22but the details get lost so
- 58:24quickly with them.
- 58:27I love the venue.
- 58:30I think the programming is,
- 58:32I think it's one of the
- 58:33best camps there is.
- 58:35They do need to fix some things,
- 58:37mainly prizes.
- 58:39Oh, yeah.
- 58:40That piece, I didn't even say.
- 58:42Yeah, I have so many thoughts about this.
- 58:48I get where they were coming
- 58:49from with this,
- 58:51and they probably went
- 58:51around it all wrong saying, hey,
- 58:53get this and do the link system.
- 58:58I personally have WeTime.
- 59:00I've had it for,
- 59:01I think this is my third
- 59:04year of having WeTime.
- 59:05They used WeTime last year.
- 59:07I have paid for WeTime.
- 59:09I have the yearly subscription.
- 59:10I've had it for two years.
- 59:12Like,
- 59:12I get they advertised as you can get
- 59:17this free trial.
- 59:18But, like,
- 59:19I think if you are at all trying
- 59:23to do this in any fashion
- 59:25where you're trying to be
- 59:26serious and you're trying
- 59:27to make these comps, I'm –
- 59:31going to go back to,
- 59:32I say it every time about
- 59:33every single comp, I'm angry that this,
- 59:36I didn't do MFC,
- 59:36so I didn't know any of
- 59:37this because I have a
- 59:39wedding that weekend, so I'm not,
- 59:40I couldn't go anywhere.
- 59:42But these,
- 59:45all these leaderboards need to be
- 59:47YouTube channel, public leaderboards,
- 59:50period.
- 59:51All these people that you're
- 59:52saying might not have their video,
- 59:53that is ridiculous if they
- 59:55don't have their video.
- 59:56You should have saved your
- 59:57video and you should be watching it.
- 59:59You should not just have it
- 1:00:00in the wee time with the
- 1:00:01link that you create.
- 1:00:02And that's all you did with it.
- 1:00:04You definitely should have
- 1:00:05saved it and you definitely
- 1:00:06should have uploaded it to YouTube.
- 1:00:08And the fact that MFC didn't
- 1:00:10make this a public
- 1:00:12leaderboard is ridiculous
- 1:00:14because we need to get back
- 1:00:15to pushing that on people.
- 1:00:16So it's a natural thing.
- 1:00:17So people are able to review
- 1:00:19other people's workouts,
- 1:00:20especially masters athletes,
- 1:00:22especially the 60 plus
- 1:00:24category where we don't get
- 1:00:26to often see how these people are moving.
- 1:00:29These need to be public.
- 1:00:31I don't like that they tried to say,
- 1:00:33get the free and we'll deal.
- 1:00:36Yeah, they're scrambling now,
- 1:00:38but be a serious athlete
- 1:00:40and save your freaking video.
- 1:00:45I should have hit this before Jamie went.
- 1:00:49I was just about to say, I was like, yeah,
- 1:00:51that's a, that's a good point.
- 1:00:52Like you should be saving it,
- 1:00:54watching on your phone, slow mo,
- 1:00:55like slow motion.
- 1:00:56If you don't feel like you're,
- 1:00:57you have a certain rep that
- 1:00:58looks good and literally
- 1:01:00watching your video over
- 1:01:01and over before you submit it.
- 1:01:03So I do,
- 1:01:04I do agree with what you're saying there,
- 1:01:06Jamie.
- 1:01:08I heard you can set a world
- 1:01:09record for an open workout
- 1:01:10without submitting a video though.
- 1:01:13Yeah, I mean,
- 1:01:14this all could be fixed if
- 1:01:16the standard was get your
- 1:01:20video on YouTube and make it public.
- 1:01:22Like, if that just became the norm,
- 1:01:24this shit would go away.
- 1:01:25Yeah,
- 1:01:29and if people don't want comments on
- 1:01:30their videos,
- 1:01:31then they just can block the
- 1:01:33comments that you have on the video,
- 1:01:34but it's still public.
- 1:01:38You know what way to stop
- 1:01:39the comments on the video?
- 1:01:41Move better.
- 1:01:42Yeah.
- 1:01:45It stops everything.
- 1:01:50Judy Reed says they need
- 1:01:51better food options and let
- 1:01:53spectators come and go once they've paid.
- 1:01:55That was annoying.
- 1:01:58Can you believe that?
- 1:01:59They have this beautiful venue.
- 1:02:00You're trying to get spectators in there,
- 1:02:03and the spectators couldn't
- 1:02:04leave and come back.
- 1:02:05You could.
- 1:02:07You just needed to buy...
- 1:02:09Once again, details,
- 1:02:10and they didn't do a good job of it,
- 1:02:11and I hope they send out an email.
- 1:02:13You had to buy a parking
- 1:02:14pass ahead of time.
- 1:02:15Yes,
- 1:02:15you needed to buy a parking pass ahead
- 1:02:16of time, and you could go in and out.
- 1:02:19But a spectator isn't going
- 1:02:20to see that on an athlete page.
- 1:02:27I mean, I don't know.
- 1:02:31Yeah, I guess.
- 1:02:32I don't know.
- 1:02:32I feel like I would tell anyone going.
- 1:02:35I bought two of them.
- 1:02:38to make sure that they were
- 1:02:38bought for a group.
- 1:02:41And I would think, like,
- 1:02:42if you knew you had people
- 1:02:43coming to watch you, you would tell them.
- 1:02:48But they do need better food options.
- 1:02:49Well, there's people that,
- 1:02:50what if you're just a fan
- 1:02:51of the sport and you want to come?
- 1:02:52Yeah, you wouldn't know.
- 1:02:55Yeah, you wouldn't know.
- 1:02:59The other thing they need to
- 1:03:00do is announce whether
- 1:03:01they're going to have prize
- 1:03:02money or not. 100%.
- 1:03:05Don't just stop giving out
- 1:03:07prize money and not say a
- 1:03:09word about it and hope
- 1:03:11nobody will notice.
- 1:03:14I did notice there is a
- 1:03:16whole lot less big names.
- 1:03:19Did you,
- 1:03:19have you looked at the meat leaderboard?
- 1:03:21No, cause I don't,
- 1:03:22I don't think I'm going to go this year.
- 1:03:23I'm going to hit some of the
- 1:03:24mid major competitions instead.
- 1:03:28Oh my God.
- 1:03:29I'm drawing a blank.
- 1:03:30Who's the 40 year old who always does it?
- 1:03:33Grub.
- 1:03:34No woman.
- 1:03:37uh anna tobias yes she
- 1:03:40didn't even she didn't even
- 1:03:41do it um and that's like
- 1:03:45the one comp she did every
- 1:03:46year I know like that's sad
- 1:03:49if you're losing names like
- 1:03:50that and she won it every
- 1:03:54year but she didn't win
- 1:03:55anything last year right
- 1:03:56when is it this year does
- 1:03:57she have the olympics it
- 1:04:00would be after the olympics yeah
- 1:04:04Cause she does, uh, sailing.
- 1:04:07Yeah.
- 1:04:08She's a multiple time Olympian, right?
- 1:04:11Yeah.
- 1:04:12We talked to her every year.
- 1:04:13She's awesome to hang out with.
- 1:04:16Um, so much fun, but yeah, it would,
- 1:04:20she does CrossFit to stay
- 1:04:21in shape for her sailing
- 1:04:23for the Olympics.
- 1:04:24And then she does this one
- 1:04:25comp every year and then you lose her.
- 1:04:28Yeah.
- 1:04:29That's, that's a big name.
- 1:04:33so um so yeah so I think
- 1:04:37that's it for for those
- 1:04:38riffs I got my blood
- 1:04:41pressure back down same the
- 1:04:44john young really got me
- 1:04:45really got me this week and
- 1:04:49I will say this too I sent
- 1:04:51him a direct message on
- 1:04:52instagram about this and he
- 1:04:54did not respond so that's
- 1:04:56why he's getting blasted
- 1:04:57tonight he poked the bear
- 1:05:03And he is sure to jump in
- 1:05:04our comments when we say
- 1:05:06something about him.
- 1:05:08So let's see.
- 1:05:12All right.
- 1:05:13So the other thing last week
- 1:05:14that I came across
- 1:05:16accidentally was I was
- 1:05:17watching the spin last Wednesday.
- 1:05:19They had Jason Operon.
- 1:05:21Then I had James Preg on the next day.
- 1:05:23And they said something
- 1:05:24eerily familiar to each other.
- 1:05:27And that was that they both
- 1:05:30were to camp last year.
- 1:05:33James in Naples, Jason at HWPO.
- 1:05:37It wasn't right for either of them.
- 1:05:38They both moved back home to
- 1:05:40get better balance.
- 1:05:44Are we getting to a point
- 1:05:46where training camps are fading away?
- 1:05:49Now, they both are still with their camp,
- 1:05:53but they're doing it from home.
- 1:05:57And they both said they got to see it.
- 1:06:00Now they could replicate it at home.
- 1:06:04Yeah.
- 1:06:05So your thoughts.
- 1:06:07I think you hear it a lot.
- 1:06:08I think women say it a lot.
- 1:06:11It's it can just become like
- 1:06:13a straight up competition
- 1:06:14every single day and you're
- 1:06:15wearing yourself down.
- 1:06:17And I think that's can be good and bad.
- 1:06:20Like too much of that is
- 1:06:21just going to wear you down.
- 1:06:23But it also probably drives
- 1:06:25like the like intensity does drive.
- 1:06:28your, your progression.
- 1:06:29So like,
- 1:06:30I think you get a lot of bang for
- 1:06:32your buck out of that,
- 1:06:34but I don't know how
- 1:06:35long-term sustainable it is.
- 1:06:38They're still training with
- 1:06:40high level athletes though.
- 1:06:42So they still can compare.
- 1:06:43They're just closer to home
- 1:06:45and they probably like, it's almost like,
- 1:06:47like, like James said,
- 1:06:49um, in his interview with you, like he,
- 1:06:51he has a better support
- 1:06:52system being at home, um,
- 1:06:55with his family there and
- 1:06:56stuff like that.
- 1:06:57So I think everyone's different.
- 1:07:00Um, you know,
- 1:07:02do you need to go into
- 1:07:03training camp like for multiple years?
- 1:07:05Probably not.
- 1:07:06Like,
- 1:07:06I think it's good to experience it maybe.
- 1:07:08And then, you know,
- 1:07:10have some learn from people,
- 1:07:12but learn from,
- 1:07:13different style of athletes
- 1:07:15have different type of
- 1:07:16people that can chase you
- 1:07:17or that you can get,
- 1:07:19or that you can chase in workouts.
- 1:07:21But I think ultimately you
- 1:07:22still have to be able to
- 1:07:23train well on your own to do, I think,
- 1:07:25well in this sport.
- 1:07:27Um,
- 1:07:29but I understand them going back home.
- 1:07:31Like it can be mentally draining, uh,
- 1:07:34being in an environment
- 1:07:35like that every day.
- 1:07:36I think as long as they're
- 1:07:37surrounded by good people, that's the,
- 1:07:39that's the fun part about
- 1:07:40training is who you're, who you're with.
- 1:07:42And if you're having fun training, um,
- 1:07:46that's, that's, what's important.
- 1:07:48Yeah.
- 1:07:49Yeah.
- 1:07:49James pointed out that he
- 1:07:50needs to be around people.
- 1:07:52Like he's not,
- 1:07:55it's really hard for him to be by himself,
- 1:07:57uh,
- 1:07:57in a garage doing what he needs to do.
- 1:07:59It doesn't mean he won't do it,
- 1:08:02but he needs to have those
- 1:08:03times where he goes to a
- 1:08:04gym and he's around other people.
- 1:08:07And just to clear this up,
- 1:08:09Craig says James trains with Cole.
- 1:08:12He said on our podcast, maybe once a week,
- 1:08:16because Cole really likes to train alone.
- 1:08:19James likes to train with people.
- 1:08:21And so like once a week,
- 1:08:22they kind of get together
- 1:08:24and Cole helps James out.
- 1:08:26I thought he said once a
- 1:08:27week they do the workouts together,
- 1:08:29like a similar workout.
- 1:08:31I think they work out more
- 1:08:32than once a week.
- 1:08:32He said he was there almost every day,
- 1:08:35but they join their workouts once a week.
- 1:08:38That's what I understood
- 1:08:39from the interview.
- 1:08:42Okay.
- 1:08:43I didn't fully get that, but okay.
- 1:08:47That's what I thought.
- 1:08:49Because Cole was in the
- 1:08:50hospital for three months
- 1:08:53and only home to train an hour a day.
- 1:08:57for a lot of that but um
- 1:09:05okay um jonathan ortega
- 1:09:12says moving to a city
- 1:09:13without your support system
- 1:09:15takes a lot and a lot of
- 1:09:16mental agility and strength
- 1:09:18yeah yeah I mean I think if
- 1:09:23you don't want to see the
- 1:09:23burnout that we're seeing
- 1:09:24in some of these
- 1:09:26teens and girls, like the camp,
- 1:09:30the camps could be
- 1:09:30contributing to that a little bit.
- 1:09:35Yeah.
- 1:09:35Hattie said that when she
- 1:09:36trained with Kelly Baker,
- 1:09:37they couldn't turn it off.
- 1:09:39Right.
- 1:09:40And that wasn't healthy either.
- 1:09:41Right.
- 1:09:42Even though it'd be like, Hey,
- 1:09:43we're both hurting today.
- 1:09:45Let's take it easy.
- 1:09:46Three, two, one go happens and bam,
- 1:09:48they're competing again.
- 1:09:50Yep.
- 1:09:51Which is why I think, you know,
- 1:09:53being in an affiliate program,
- 1:09:55taking a class wad here and there,
- 1:09:57stepping away from your program,
- 1:10:00I think goes a long way.
- 1:10:03Mentally, just physically, you know,
- 1:10:05you don't have to even go, you know,
- 1:10:06you're not going against people that are,
- 1:10:08you know,
- 1:10:08your games athlete or your competitors,
- 1:10:10but you're just having fun
- 1:10:11with the community.
- 1:10:12Like,
- 1:10:12I think it's just an important part
- 1:10:16of staying more mentally in the game,
- 1:10:21I guess.
- 1:10:22Yeah.
- 1:10:24I think, who was it?
- 1:10:26Someone did a post about it the other day.
- 1:10:29When I'm in California,
- 1:10:30I do a class WOD almost all the time,
- 1:10:32and it's fun.
- 1:10:33It's great.
- 1:10:34When I'm at my affiliate,
- 1:10:36I'll WOD with different
- 1:10:38people a lot of days versus
- 1:10:41just always by myself.
- 1:10:45Jonathan clears it up.
- 1:10:47Jonathan, if you don't know,
- 1:10:48did James' vlog from West
- 1:10:52Coast Classic...
- 1:10:54So he was with James that whole weekend.
- 1:10:56They train in the same space,
- 1:10:58I think not like same programming.
- 1:11:01Yeah,
- 1:11:01I think he was explaining to me that
- 1:11:02once a week,
- 1:11:04they try to merge their
- 1:11:05programming together for
- 1:11:07one day to train together
- 1:11:09on that one day.
- 1:11:15I can't imagine training by myself.
- 1:11:17I just, I can't.
- 1:11:21When I'm in the garage,
- 1:11:22there's no intensity.
- 1:11:24Have you been going to the affiliate?
- 1:11:27I don't have a car.
- 1:11:29So I'm really stuck.
- 1:11:31I shouldn't say no intensity,
- 1:11:33but it's definitely not the
- 1:11:34same intensity.
- 1:11:36Right.
- 1:11:37But that's where I say like,
- 1:11:38you have to learn to be
- 1:11:39good training on your own.
- 1:11:41Like as you,
- 1:11:42you have to be able to train with people,
- 1:11:44but also like to train on
- 1:11:47your own and push yourself
- 1:11:48and not be solely dependent
- 1:11:50on other people goes a long way.
- 1:11:55Like sometimes some of the
- 1:11:56best mental workouts that I
- 1:11:58have are just like when I'm
- 1:11:59alone at the gym,
- 1:12:01And it's like you do the
- 1:12:02workout and you just feel
- 1:12:03so accomplished after.
- 1:12:05And when you are competing,
- 1:12:07you think back on those
- 1:12:08moments when you were alone
- 1:12:10and suffered literally by yourself.
- 1:12:13So you've got to get better, Scott.
- 1:12:16I think there's those days
- 1:12:18where that competitive
- 1:12:19voice in my head is really
- 1:12:22tough on myself to push.
- 1:12:25And those are good days
- 1:12:26where I finish and I'm like, man,
- 1:12:28I really conquered that that day.
- 1:12:30Yeah.
- 1:12:31But I was much better at
- 1:12:33that when I was younger than I am today.
- 1:12:37Just being flat out honest.
- 1:12:40I get that win once or twice a week,
- 1:12:43where when I was younger,
- 1:12:44I was five days a week, six days a week,
- 1:12:48pushing myself to the limit.
- 1:12:56All right.
- 1:12:58So the last question is,
- 1:13:01as it gets dark in Canada.
- 1:13:03Yes.
- 1:13:07You went from like this
- 1:13:08bright room to all of a sudden, whoosh.
- 1:13:11Yeah,
- 1:13:11I have my one window just a little
- 1:13:12bit open.
- 1:13:15I accidentally closed Instagram,
- 1:13:16so hold on one second.
- 1:13:18So the question that we,
- 1:13:20Lex is now putting in these
- 1:13:21questions of the week, which would be,
- 1:13:23what I want to do is have
- 1:13:25you guys in the comment
- 1:13:26section on YouTube,
- 1:13:28give us suggestions for a
- 1:13:29question of the week.
- 1:13:31And we'll come up with
- 1:13:33something and put it out
- 1:13:34there to everybody and come
- 1:13:35up with our answers.
- 1:13:38But what I'm going to do tonight,
- 1:13:39since Lex put this in the notes,
- 1:13:42is question of the week.
- 1:13:43And that is,
- 1:13:45what movement should be
- 1:13:48removed from all CrossFit competitions?
- 1:13:52And what prompted this is
- 1:13:53there was a competition in
- 1:13:56California where...
- 1:14:01this movement was programmed
- 1:14:08and called either,
- 1:14:09it was called duck walks or
- 1:14:12described as duck walks.
- 1:14:15I think it's more of like a waddle.
- 1:14:18Yeah.
- 1:14:19That is not what I was picturing.
- 1:14:21They had a freestanding
- 1:14:23handstand pushups too.
- 1:14:24It was like a nine, six or nine, seven,
- 1:14:26five ring muscle ups and
- 1:14:27then freestanding handstand pushups.
- 1:14:29And then in between each round was,
- 1:14:3030 feet or something of the
- 1:14:33duck walk the swaddle walk
- 1:14:34or something something like
- 1:14:35that like sent it to me
- 1:14:42yeah so I mean that one
- 1:14:44like look it looks somewhat
- 1:14:45functional it's just funny
- 1:14:48Like I had broad jumps for
- 1:14:51distance in a qualifier
- 1:14:52this year for NorCal Classic.
- 1:14:53Like I did all the qualifier
- 1:14:55workouts and then I had an invite.
- 1:14:57So I didn't end up having to
- 1:15:00submit it though.
- 1:15:01But it was just like, I felt so goofy.
- 1:15:04I was just,
- 1:15:05it was like 25 foot down and
- 1:15:06backs of just like broad jump.
- 1:15:11But you're not doing a full broad jump.
- 1:15:12You're just like bunny
- 1:15:13hopping and then coming back.
- 1:15:16And I was like, what am I doing?
- 1:15:21Yeah.
- 1:15:22What would you remove from
- 1:15:24competition that you've seen out there?
- 1:15:29Well,
- 1:15:30Lex and I were talking and we were
- 1:15:32saying something that's
- 1:15:33brand new that hasn't been
- 1:15:37really kind of tested somewhere.
- 1:15:39It's just hard to implement
- 1:15:41sometimes on the standards.
- 1:15:43And then some very,
- 1:15:44very high level skills that...
- 1:15:49when the field is just not there, like,
- 1:15:50do they need freestanding
- 1:15:51handstand pushups in a local ish comp?
- 1:15:57You know,
- 1:15:58you have them at the games one time,
- 1:16:00two times, right.
- 1:16:03And in 2021, and then this past year, like,
- 1:16:07I don't know that people
- 1:16:08are so proficient in that, you know,
- 1:16:10it can cause injuries for
- 1:16:11some to kind of come down on their neck.
- 1:16:13And if they're not really used to that,
- 1:16:16um,
- 1:16:17would say something like the
- 1:16:18ring handstand push-ups
- 1:16:20would be something exactly
- 1:16:21what I would say I would
- 1:16:22not like it's not
- 1:16:23functional it's stupid it's
- 1:16:26people are doing kind of
- 1:16:27like a bench press like
- 1:16:28it's hard to standardize um
- 1:16:32something like that I don't
- 1:16:34think should be programmed
- 1:16:38um what else my my opinion
- 1:16:42is dips should be off the table
- 1:16:46dips are a great strength accessory,
- 1:16:48but every time they're put
- 1:16:49in like a competition,
- 1:16:50the injury rate goes so
- 1:16:52high because they're not
- 1:16:53meant to be done at highway
- 1:16:55speed and they're impossible to judge.
- 1:16:58Yeah.
- 1:17:00Cause you get, you get the, the beat,
- 1:17:01the bobbing bird,
- 1:17:03you get all different forms
- 1:17:05and formations of it,
- 1:17:07whether it's on parallettes, matador ring,
- 1:17:11whatever it all,
- 1:17:13it all turns into a cluster.
- 1:17:17The strict ring muscle-up
- 1:17:18was hard to judge at the
- 1:17:23regionals in 2016, I think it was.
- 1:17:262015, 2016, somewhere around there.
- 1:17:31You looked at Matt Fraser.
- 1:17:32He was kind of doing a
- 1:17:33little bit of his hip were kind of
- 1:17:36Helping out a little bit
- 1:17:37like a true strict
- 1:17:38calisthenic ring muscle up
- 1:17:40is I feel like not that
- 1:17:42many people in our sport
- 1:17:43really do it strict.
- 1:17:44Like they kind of come back,
- 1:17:45their feet come back and
- 1:17:46then they lean back.
- 1:17:48They're getting some
- 1:17:49momentum a little bit within the strict.
- 1:17:50So that's a tough one.
- 1:17:52I think that they've tried to implement.
- 1:17:55I thought the games did a
- 1:17:56good job last year in the team division,
- 1:17:59making it from a seated
- 1:18:00position where you then can
- 1:18:02lift your feet off the ground.
- 1:18:03And then it's strict ish from the floor.
- 1:18:07I think if you're going to
- 1:18:08do the strict ring muscles,
- 1:18:10you have to do it from like
- 1:18:11that seated position where
- 1:18:12your feet can't come behind you.
- 1:18:14And if there's a little bit of a,
- 1:18:16of a hip there, it is what it is.
- 1:18:18You're still going from a
- 1:18:19seated position to a supported position.
- 1:18:22I think that was, um,
- 1:18:25fun in that way but if
- 1:18:26you're from a dead hang
- 1:18:28position I think that's a
- 1:18:29tough one to do yeah if
- 1:18:33you're if you're an og
- 1:18:34crossfit fan like things
- 1:18:37were wild in like 12 and 13
- 1:18:40and 14 where people were
- 1:18:42getting maimed and hurt on
- 1:18:46high hurdles that didn't
- 1:18:47give on I mean the kevin
- 1:18:51ogar situation like it just
- 1:18:53wasn't safe back then
- 1:18:55And I think a lot of that
- 1:18:57has been removed from the
- 1:18:58competitions and they've
- 1:19:00done a good job of that.
- 1:19:01I hope I just don't want to
- 1:19:03go back to that direction
- 1:19:05where people are just doing
- 1:19:06wild shit at comps.
- 1:19:10Well,
- 1:19:10it just seems like a lot of times
- 1:19:11comps want to like be different and, uh,
- 1:19:16special and do unique things.
- 1:19:18And sometimes they overdo it.
- 1:19:21Um,
- 1:19:22I think a competition that
- 1:19:23does unique things,
- 1:19:25but does it in the right
- 1:19:26way is something like crash.
- 1:19:27Like, like Jr has implemented, you know,
- 1:19:30unique things,
- 1:19:31but it's well thought of
- 1:19:33people can still do the movements.
- 1:19:36Um, you know,
- 1:19:37it's a little twist on certain elements,
- 1:19:40like just having like the
- 1:19:40dumbbells with a little rope for handles,
- 1:19:43like just like small stuff like that.
- 1:19:45Um,
- 1:19:46but most of the competitions I feel
- 1:19:47like don't have the right, um,
- 1:19:53I don't know.
- 1:19:53It just doesn't really work.
- 1:19:55It doesn't have the right field, too.
- 1:19:58Because Crash has some good
- 1:20:01people to do these unique things.
- 1:20:04The Games is a place where
- 1:20:05you can do certain unique
- 1:20:06things because you have a lot of events,
- 1:20:08like 12 to 15 events.
- 1:20:10So you can have a very niche
- 1:20:12event that's very...
- 1:20:14different and odd,
- 1:20:17but these local comps that have, you know,
- 1:20:19four to five events most times,
- 1:20:21and you have these weird stuff,
- 1:20:23I would try to stay away
- 1:20:24from brand new things like
- 1:20:27that or accessory type movements.
- 1:20:32The last thing I'm going to
- 1:20:33say is about this is if
- 1:20:36you're doing it for a
- 1:20:38streamed competition, um,
- 1:20:40Something in your mind has
- 1:20:42to think about how this is
- 1:20:44going to look to the spectator.
- 1:20:47And the one thing I have to
- 1:20:48give Dave credit for is he
- 1:20:51seems to think about that more than most.
- 1:20:55Is he perfect?
- 1:20:56Nobody's perfect.
- 1:20:57But like before Dave came back and Boz,
- 1:21:02and I love Boz,
- 1:21:03but the seated legless into
- 1:21:05the handstand pushups into
- 1:21:07the seated legless was a bad look.
- 1:21:11sitting on the floor,
- 1:21:12crawling over to the wall
- 1:21:14to do your handstand pushup,
- 1:21:16crawling back to the rope
- 1:21:17and sitting there, and then doing it.
- 1:21:20It just had a bad look.
- 1:21:22The movements separated were fine,
- 1:21:25but that combination had a
- 1:21:26bad look with the transitions.
- 1:21:30And that's not what you want
- 1:21:32people to see on TV,
- 1:21:35to represent CrossFit.
- 1:21:37Yeah,
- 1:21:37I think Boz has had some really great
- 1:21:39ideas with some of the
- 1:21:40movements that he's added
- 1:21:41and has really made
- 1:21:44athletes go back to basics
- 1:21:46in terms of strict
- 1:21:47movements and stuff like that.
- 1:21:50I think that Dave's vision
- 1:21:51of like what a workout looks like,
- 1:21:53like on the layout,
- 1:21:54he changed the game in
- 1:21:56terms of programming and
- 1:21:57having different
- 1:21:58competitions really think
- 1:21:59about that in terms of how you're,
- 1:22:01how you're programming, how,
- 1:22:02how to make it look for, you know,
- 1:22:04for a regular fan.
- 1:22:05Can you see the race?
- 1:22:06Can you understand what's going on?
- 1:22:08So having both of them together, I think,
- 1:22:12you know, hopefully it comes with,
- 1:22:14great programming this year at the games,
- 1:22:16and I have no doubt that
- 1:22:17that will come because, you know,
- 1:22:19you have two good brains
- 1:22:20working together there.
- 1:22:21But, yeah.
- 1:22:23Yeah.
- 1:22:24And I think the more we get
- 1:22:25away from machines, the better.
- 1:22:28Like, we showed this year that at semis,
- 1:22:31you could run,
- 1:22:33you could find a way to get
- 1:22:35a run in in a lot of
- 1:22:37different situations
- 1:22:39without having to use the air runner.
- 1:22:41So...
- 1:22:43That's that.
- 1:22:45Before we spin out of here,
- 1:22:47they're talking a lot about
- 1:22:48this CrossFit documentary.
- 1:22:53It was announced last year
- 1:22:54that instead of their
- 1:22:56traditional CrossFit doc,
- 1:22:58they were bringing an
- 1:22:59outside media company to do
- 1:23:02a documentary of the CrossFit Games.
- 1:23:05They said they were doing
- 1:23:06that so that it would have
- 1:23:07a quicker release than in years past.
- 1:23:13It's still not out.
- 1:23:15Dave brought it up in his week in review,
- 1:23:18said that he had seen us, seen it,
- 1:23:21but they were still looking
- 1:23:22for distribution or were
- 1:23:25close to distribution or
- 1:23:28something to that effect.
- 1:23:30But it's still not at work.
- 1:23:32We're almost to the 2024
- 1:23:34games and the 2023 game doc
- 1:23:38is still not out.
- 1:23:40Apparently it's coming out
- 1:23:41after the games.
- 1:23:42That's what Hiller says.
- 1:23:44Let's make sure we give him
- 1:23:46credit for that.
- 1:23:48I don't care.
- 1:23:49I'm confused.
- 1:23:53This is CrossFit hired a
- 1:23:58media team to come film.
- 1:24:00I'm so confused.
- 1:24:03Why?
- 1:24:04Just like golf does full swing,
- 1:24:07Formula One does whatever
- 1:24:10that one is on Netflix.
- 1:24:12Was it ESPN that did this one?
- 1:24:14No, they just broadcast.
- 1:24:15I think it was an outside
- 1:24:18media company that didn't
- 1:24:20even know much about CrossFit.
- 1:24:22It was supposed to be a
- 1:24:23different perspective so
- 1:24:24that it could promote what
- 1:24:26this was outside of our normal space.
- 1:24:30I just feel like when you
- 1:24:31should release it is like
- 1:24:32in this dead space between
- 1:24:35let's say semifinals and the games.
- 1:24:37That's when, you know,
- 1:24:38you release it there,
- 1:24:39you get the hype build up
- 1:24:40for the CrossFit games, for the, you know,
- 1:24:43the master's division, the adaptive,
- 1:24:45all of these games,
- 1:24:46the teenagers coming up, you know,
- 1:24:49this window right now where
- 1:24:51it's just kind of that, because, you know,
- 1:24:53we picked up from March really until now,
- 1:24:56pretty much every week
- 1:24:57there's something going on now.
- 1:24:59this is when you release it.
- 1:25:01Get people excited, get more tickets sold.
- 1:25:04My question to you is,
- 1:25:05are you excited about it?
- 1:25:07We had the Butters behind the scenes.
- 1:25:09That wasn't there.
- 1:25:10We had Savan behind the scenes.
- 1:25:12We had Craig Ritchie behind the scenes.
- 1:25:15We had countless other media
- 1:25:17companies spitting out
- 1:25:18content from the games.
- 1:25:20At this point,
- 1:25:21if you're us that watch this
- 1:25:24stuff all the time,
- 1:25:25do you even care at this point?
- 1:25:27well is this why they aren't
- 1:25:29I mean I guess they did end
- 1:25:30up sharing savans behind
- 1:25:32the scenes but like I don't
- 1:25:33feel like they did right
- 1:25:34away is this partly why
- 1:25:36they aren't like sharing
- 1:25:38content because they paid
- 1:25:39for this outside content
- 1:25:40and they're trying to want
- 1:25:41to get that out and want
- 1:25:43the views there and I think
- 1:25:46that's stupid you have so
- 1:25:47many people willing to do
- 1:25:48it for free good content
- 1:25:50like just do that and share
- 1:25:51that don't pay an outside media company
- 1:25:54So I think what the concept was,
- 1:25:59was get these people who
- 1:26:00are not in our space to do
- 1:26:04something to attract people
- 1:26:06from outside the space in.
- 1:26:10I get what that is like on the surface.
- 1:26:13But at this point,
- 1:26:13you're a year after the fact.
- 1:26:18Like, I think we've lost all that.
- 1:26:19I agree.
- 1:26:22And if you're inside our space,
- 1:26:24we have so many alternatives to this.
- 1:26:27And we've probably all
- 1:26:28watched some versions of this.
- 1:26:30Hell Mayhem did a behind the scenes.
- 1:26:34Like there were so many behind the scenes,
- 1:26:36so many media companies
- 1:26:36spitting out stuff.
- 1:26:39If you wanted to know what went on,
- 1:26:41is there anything left to learn?
- 1:26:45I mean,
- 1:26:45if they go through the lesser known
- 1:26:48athletes, but that never is the case,
- 1:26:50it's going to be the same stories of,
- 1:26:52the top athletes.
- 1:26:54And then you start looking
- 1:26:55at the interviews.
- 1:26:56It's like, Oh,
- 1:26:56I heard this already on this part.
- 1:26:58So it's like, nothing's nothing's new.
- 1:27:01That's my point at the, you know,
- 1:27:03why get upset about it?
- 1:27:04Are we really missing anything?
- 1:27:09I don't giant waste of money to me.
- 1:27:12So unless they put on
- 1:27:14Netflix and then it starts, because then,
- 1:27:19yeah,
- 1:27:19if they were to put it like on
- 1:27:20Netflix or something like that, then,
- 1:27:22then it's, it's fine.
- 1:27:23It doesn't matter if it's later,
- 1:27:24it's going to get, you know,
- 1:27:26our current audience, you know,
- 1:27:27that are huge fans of the
- 1:27:28sports that are going to watch it anyways,
- 1:27:29because we watch everything.
- 1:27:31And then if it's on Netflix,
- 1:27:32it's going to get new
- 1:27:33people to watch it and then
- 1:27:35get more people into the
- 1:27:36affiliates ideally.
- 1:27:38Um, but.
- 1:27:40That's a big if, right?
- 1:27:41Like whether it's just on YouTube.
- 1:27:45So a lot of people have
- 1:27:46posted these pictures.
- 1:27:47I think Hiller, a big one.
- 1:27:49Someone else made a comment
- 1:27:50about it on Coffee Pods and
- 1:27:54Wads around the whiteboard.
- 1:28:00CrossFit had 50 media under
- 1:28:03their umbrella at the games.
- 1:28:06And they paid this outside
- 1:28:08media company to come in
- 1:28:10and produce a documentary.
- 1:28:13What did they put out?
- 1:28:18It was actually on Death By.
- 1:28:20It was Tommy Marquez.
- 1:28:23Tommy Marquez said they had
- 1:28:2550 contracted media plus
- 1:28:26this outside documentary company.
- 1:28:28Nothing came out because
- 1:28:30they're all worried about
- 1:28:31their own jobs and their own...
- 1:28:36thing that they're not
- 1:28:37working together and for
- 1:28:39tommy to rip on crossfit
- 1:28:41media that means
- 1:28:43something's really bad yeah
- 1:28:49I mean there's a lot of
- 1:28:54media that needs to be put
- 1:28:55out there by crossfit for
- 1:28:58the affiliates for the sport
- 1:29:01For health, like CrossFit Health,
- 1:29:04there's a lot of different
- 1:29:04directions that they could be going.
- 1:29:07And it just seems like not much.
- 1:29:09No direction, right?
- 1:29:17When you have that many
- 1:29:19people taking up spots and
- 1:29:22you're blocking other media
- 1:29:24companies from coming in
- 1:29:27and you're producing nothing.
- 1:29:29Yeah.
- 1:29:31That's a problem.
- 1:29:32Right.
- 1:29:33And you have these people
- 1:29:34that are doing it for free,
- 1:29:36knocking at the door,
- 1:29:37and you're not letting them in.
- 1:29:48It's... That is the most
- 1:29:51disheartening thing.
- 1:29:55I mean...
- 1:29:57Jamie,
- 1:29:57you've been with me for the last two
- 1:29:58years.
- 1:29:59We scratch, claw,
- 1:30:01fight for every little bit
- 1:30:03of access we can get.
- 1:30:05And I think we have a good
- 1:30:06relationship with the higher-ups.
- 1:30:08It just doesn't get down to anybody else.
- 1:30:10Yeah.
- 1:30:14Like that shit that went
- 1:30:15down at Syndicate Crown and
- 1:30:17nobody else had to deal
- 1:30:19with what we had to deal with,
- 1:30:21doing the same thing we were doing,
- 1:30:25If more people like and
- 1:30:26subscribe to the channel,
- 1:30:27we're going to get bigger,
- 1:30:29and then you don't have that problem.
- 1:30:30So like and subscribe.
- 1:30:33Yeah.
- 1:30:34I'm doing the work for you.
- 1:30:37Like, subscribe, and hit that notifier.
- 1:30:40It's a popularity thing, though.
- 1:30:42That's what it is.
- 1:30:42It is.
- 1:30:43It 100% is.
- 1:30:44It's just a popularity,
- 1:30:45whether you're in the group or not.
- 1:30:47Same stuff.
- 1:30:53I think Jamie is just over it all.
- 1:30:57I don't even know.
- 1:30:58Like Chris says, share.
- 1:31:03Share it with your friends.
- 1:31:04Let them know we're here.
- 1:31:06But I do have to thank you
- 1:31:06all that are doing this
- 1:31:07because we have hit a huge growth spurt.
- 1:31:11We added 78 subscribers in
- 1:31:13the last 28 days.
- 1:31:20and I couldn't thank you
- 1:31:22guys enough that share
- 1:31:25button is a big one yeah
- 1:31:31but yeah we don't want to
- 1:31:32fight and claw we're done
- 1:31:35with that but with that
- 1:31:40We have one last thing.
- 1:31:41What's that?
- 1:31:45She's clapping.
- 1:31:46I thought they were feet.
- 1:31:48I thought she was clapping.
- 1:31:50That's Judy's only fans page.
- 1:31:53Come check out her feet.
- 1:31:55It looked like feet to me.
- 1:31:56It didn't look like hands.
- 1:32:01Checkpoint Productions, I think,
- 1:32:03is the media company doing the doc.
- 1:32:04I haven't heard of them.
- 1:32:10um so spin polls came out
- 1:32:14this week jamie and I are
- 1:32:17voters on that apparently
- 1:32:19we're analysts in some
- 1:32:20people's minds but but
- 1:32:22we're picked as that by the
- 1:32:24same people who forget that
- 1:32:26we are yeah uh judy says
- 1:32:33they're little bound asian
- 1:32:34food oh my gosh
- 1:32:40So they came out this week.
- 1:32:41We had to make our picks.
- 1:32:44Spoiler alert.
- 1:32:46Saxon Pancheck did not get
- 1:32:48my number one vote.
- 1:32:50Jeez.
- 1:32:55But did Adler get your number one vote?
- 1:32:58Of course he did.
- 1:32:59Because that's where it has
- 1:33:01been for the last two freaking years.
- 1:33:07And Emma for your number one female
- 1:33:11I may have switched that up.
- 1:33:12I was just about to say, I was like,
- 1:33:14are you putting that?
- 1:33:16For who?
- 1:33:18Did Jamie convince you
- 1:33:19enough with her riff last week?
- 1:33:24She did not.
- 1:33:25Oh, you picked someone else.
- 1:33:27I picked Laura, number one.
- 1:33:29You're crazy.
- 1:33:32Laura, Tia, Emma.
- 1:33:35The Emma news scared me.
- 1:33:38I agree.
- 1:33:40I agree.
- 1:33:40I moved her down.
- 1:33:42I moved her down to six.
- 1:33:48So Kenneth, I did not drop Tia.
- 1:33:49Tia actually stayed the same.
- 1:33:51My poll before this month was Emma, Tia,
- 1:33:55Laura.
- 1:33:57I switched it to Laura, Tia, Emma.
- 1:34:02I flip flopped one in three.
- 1:34:06Yeah.
- 1:34:07I think that when you see
- 1:34:09what Tia did in the East,
- 1:34:11it's easy to forget what
- 1:34:12Laura did in Europe.
- 1:34:16And Laura would have won a
- 1:34:18couple of the events against Tia.
- 1:34:21Which ones were they?
- 1:34:24She would have won the snatch ladder.
- 1:34:25She would have won the row handstand.
- 1:34:29Yeah.
- 1:34:31Strength and power output.
- 1:34:32Right.
- 1:34:32I mean, you're not beating... Yeah,
- 1:34:34Laura's...
- 1:34:36I think it would have been
- 1:34:37close on the rope climb.
- 1:34:40It wasn't a rope climb workout.
- 1:34:41It was an echo bike workout.
- 1:34:42Like you had enough time.
- 1:34:45No one like Laura has one of
- 1:34:47the best legless rope climbs too,
- 1:34:48but that was more like the
- 1:34:50echo bike played a major factor.
- 1:34:52Even for the females,
- 1:34:53you have enough time to recover.
- 1:34:54If it was, if it was 10 echo bike,
- 1:34:58two legless rope climbs,
- 1:34:5910 box jump overs,
- 1:35:00it's a completely different
- 1:35:01workout for the females.
- 1:35:02Now it becomes a legless rope climb event.
- 1:35:06barely any females struggle
- 1:35:09to get the rope climbs.
- 1:35:12And normally they do, right?
- 1:35:14Like normally the bottom half of the field,
- 1:35:16like quite a bit are missing.
- 1:35:18So I'm not surprised that Laura's,
- 1:35:22you know, right there with T on that.
- 1:35:24So I think that Laura and T
- 1:35:25are going to go head to
- 1:35:26head on a lot of things very close.
- 1:35:29My hope and prayer is that
- 1:35:32there's no strict deficit
- 1:35:33handstand pushups.
- 1:35:35That's it.
- 1:35:38Why?
- 1:35:39Because Laura will get smoked.
- 1:35:46I do want to... Again,
- 1:35:49why did everyone... Why did
- 1:35:50Ariel... If you're Laura Horvath,
- 1:35:55you want that to show up.
- 1:35:57Because you want to beat Tia
- 1:35:59with that movement in the field.
- 1:36:00You don't want to beat Tia
- 1:36:02and people will be like, oh,
- 1:36:04there was no handstand pushups.
- 1:36:05If you're Laura Horvath,
- 1:36:07You want to be like, I won last year,
- 1:36:10and I'm going to win again this year.
- 1:36:11Bring on whatever event, and I will win.
- 1:36:14And I feel like that's Laura's mentality.
- 1:36:17I'm sure that's Laura's mentality.
- 1:36:18It's just not mine as an analyst.
- 1:36:20Yeah.
- 1:36:23I want her to have that
- 1:36:24mental thought process.
- 1:36:28As an analyst,
- 1:36:28I'm just hoping to make my pick right,
- 1:36:31it doesn't go that way.
- 1:36:36Do you feel like there's
- 1:36:37more females right now that
- 1:36:40can kind of get in between?
- 1:36:43Like,
- 1:36:44is the field not as deep this year
- 1:36:46without, let's say, like Emma Carey,
- 1:36:48Paige Powers?
- 1:36:51Who else is missing?
- 1:36:53Mal O'Brien.
- 1:36:54Or these newer, you know.
- 1:36:57athletes and the rise of
- 1:36:59like Alex goes in and Ariel and, you know,
- 1:37:02Abigail Domet that had a great show.
- 1:37:05Like,
- 1:37:05are those athletes going to start
- 1:37:07adding up to already those
- 1:37:09top tier and get some middling?
- 1:37:11Like, do you think,
- 1:37:13or do you think it's just
- 1:37:14the same four or five athletes?
- 1:37:17I think there is a tier of top tier.
- 1:37:21Yeah.
- 1:37:21I think Raptus McGowan, Lohan is an.
- 1:37:28Lawson, Tia, Haley.
- 1:37:31Don't count out Haley.
- 1:37:32Haley is a top 10.
- 1:37:34Taylor's a top five athlete
- 1:37:36almost every year.
- 1:37:37She is.
- 1:37:38I'm like, I, you know,
- 1:37:40I know that you say area
- 1:37:42low and because of her podium,
- 1:37:44Haley Adams has had the
- 1:37:46best performances as a us
- 1:37:48female athlete above, in my opinion,
- 1:37:52Carrie Pierce, even like pretty close.
- 1:37:56Yeah.
- 1:37:56Pretty close to like a Carrie Pierce.
- 1:37:59She just doesn't have the podium.
- 1:38:01She just doesn't have the podium,
- 1:38:02but she's that Scott Pancha.
- 1:38:05She's that fourth, fifth, sixth.
- 1:38:08She's so consistent.
- 1:38:11I think she's going to have
- 1:38:12events where she middles,
- 1:38:14but I think that the field
- 1:38:15has gotten stronger in the
- 1:38:17year she took off.
- 1:38:21So is she, probably.
- 1:38:22Yeah, I think she has, too.
- 1:38:24That front squat workout
- 1:38:25really made me... And she's
- 1:38:27great on machines.
- 1:38:28I don't even think it was
- 1:38:29the front squats.
- 1:38:29I think it was the dubs.
- 1:38:33I think it was the front squats.
- 1:38:34A little bit more.
- 1:38:36And dubs a little bit,
- 1:38:37but I think it was a lot of
- 1:38:38the front squats.
- 1:38:40So I do want to address this.
- 1:38:42Why did Ariel drop from everyone's radar?
- 1:38:44She finished third last year.
- 1:38:45She didn't drop from my radar.
- 1:38:48I put her in that top tier of athletes.
- 1:38:51I think she's just such a
- 1:38:52consistent athlete.
- 1:38:53So people forget about her.
- 1:38:54Like she's just always going
- 1:38:55to be a top top 10 and on every event,
- 1:38:58like she doesn't have low finishes.
- 1:39:00So people just,
- 1:39:01she just kind of floats is
- 1:39:02always in the mix.
- 1:39:03So people forget about her
- 1:39:05cause she might not win a
- 1:39:06bunch of events.
- 1:39:07Um, although she has one, you know, events,
- 1:39:11I think she does have definitely home run,
- 1:39:13uh, potential,
- 1:39:15but I think she just does
- 1:39:17it more quietly.
- 1:39:19But I think she's really relevant.
- 1:39:21She doesn't have major holes at all.
- 1:39:25I think you take Raptus, Magawa, Lowen,
- 1:39:30and Gazan,
- 1:39:33and you put them in a bag and
- 1:39:35shake them up,
- 1:39:35and they could fall in any order.
- 1:39:39Yeah, it depends on the programming.
- 1:39:40And Abby Domet has the
- 1:39:42opportunity to move into that,
- 1:39:45but I want to see it at the
- 1:39:46games before I move her into that.
- 1:39:50Daniel Brandon in there too, maybe.
- 1:39:52Close to those athletes.
- 1:39:57I don't have her up there, but you can.
- 1:40:00Do you like Emma Tall?
- 1:40:01I think she's... I do,
- 1:40:04but I think they all have
- 1:40:06bigger holes than the
- 1:40:07people we mentioned.
- 1:40:12We'll see.
- 1:40:14Time will tell.
- 1:40:16Should be a hell of a fight.
- 1:40:17Yeah, the men is crazy.
- 1:40:20Beyond crazy.
- 1:40:22Yeah, I'm excited for that.
- 1:40:26That you put all the top
- 1:40:28seven or eight in a bag and
- 1:40:29you have no idea.
- 1:40:31And it's not just the
- 1:40:32competitiveness of the field.
- 1:40:35It's the personalities that
- 1:40:36are starting to come out of
- 1:40:37the men's side.
- 1:40:38And that's making it more exciting.
- 1:40:45Yeah.
- 1:40:47Yeah, the trash talking, the
- 1:40:51the whole bit, it's going to be amazing.
- 1:40:55And then you,
- 1:40:56you have some unknown still
- 1:40:57coming at like yellow,
- 1:40:59like how much better is he
- 1:41:00now with the year under his belt and you,
- 1:41:04and he's got the same body
- 1:41:06as Hopper and Dallin and
- 1:41:09that whole crew Fikowski.
- 1:41:12Gosh, it's going to be crazy.
- 1:41:17I, that was so, so hard to pick.
- 1:41:22How do I get Saxon on the podium?
- 1:41:28You're not letting this go tonight.
- 1:41:32I didn't even have Saxon near the top five,
- 1:41:34okay?
- 1:41:35Yeah.
- 1:41:36Agree.
- 1:41:41Anyway.
- 1:41:43Well, we have gone long tonight.
- 1:41:45Yeah.
- 1:41:45You guys have said awesome
- 1:41:46things in the chats.
- 1:41:48Thank you so much for the kind words.
- 1:41:51We appreciate it so much.
- 1:41:54Again, like, subscribe,
- 1:41:55share it with your friends.
- 1:41:57Let everybody know we're
- 1:41:57here every Sunday night.
- 1:41:59The original CrossFit talk show.
- 1:42:03And put a comment on the
- 1:42:06question of the week.
- 1:42:07Yeah.
- 1:42:07What do you want to be the
- 1:42:08question of the week next week?
- 1:42:10hopefully we can get some
- 1:42:11more riffs out because I
- 1:42:13made a nice cool graphic
- 1:42:14and everything with that
- 1:42:17thank you so much for being
