Speaker 2: Lisa Odie, who are my co host of the show.
• 0:57
Speaker 2: And ladies and gentlemen, we have we have. I'm going
• 1:01
Speaker 2: to say a spectacular guest today. We we typically and
• 1:08
Speaker 2: I'm not taking anything away from our past guest, but
• 1:11
Speaker 2: I think this one is to me pretty special, and
• 1:14
Speaker 2: I think Hollis is gonna do the intro. Yeah, we
• 1:17
Speaker 2: got you know, West Virginia basketball legend Tennessee former Tennessee
• 1:22
Speaker 2: volunteer basketball player first round draft pick Alexis Hornbooker. How
• 1:27
Speaker 2: you doing doing well? Great? Doing great? Alexis one of
• 1:34
Speaker 2: the interesting things that I have from being from West
• 1:39
Speaker 2: Virginia playing in the NFL and and when people try
• 1:46
Speaker 2: to talk to you about like what it's like, what
• 1:48
Speaker 2: it's all of that? Can you can you kind of
• 1:53
Speaker 2: give people the insight of what your experience in the
• 1:59
  Speaker 2: in the w n b A was and is to
• 2:03
  Speaker 2: you even today.
• 2:07
Speaker 4: Because you can dream it. Right. Obviously a lot of
• 2:10
Speaker 4: athletes do in all sports, but very few reached that
• 2:13
Speaker 4: level or reach that that their goals when it comes
• 2:16
Speaker 4: to that level, And so like when you hear your
• 2:19
Speaker 4: name called or you see it go across the screen,
• 2:21
Speaker 4: however it goes for you. For me being there and
• 2:23
Speaker 4: hearing my name called at number four, overall, like I
• 2:29
Speaker 4: was just cheasing from ear to ear full full disclosure,
• 2:34
Speaker 4: though we won the night before and then the draft
• 2:37
Speaker 4: was the next day, so I was also like no sleep,
• 2:42
Speaker 4: So it was very surreal. But it's just this overwhelming
• 2:46
Speaker 4: feel feelings but just like joy, elation and and even
• 2:50
Speaker 4: that sigh of release like Okay, I'm here, you know
• 2:54
  Speaker 4: I'm going.
• 2:56
Speaker 2: To ask one more tough question, probably, and then I'll
• 2:59
Speaker 2: let everybody else jump in. When did you know that
• 3:05
Speaker 2: you you were? You were that lady like you when
• 3:10
Speaker 2: they call your name, you get out on the court
• 3:13
Speaker 2: and you're like, oh, yeah, I can do this, and
• 3:16
Speaker 2: not only can I do this, I could do it
• 3:18
Speaker 2: at a high level. When did you get that moment
• 3:24
Speaker 2: or did you get that moment?
• 3:26
Speaker 4: Yeah? I got that moment and it happened really young
• 3:32
Speaker 4: for me. Honestly, it happened I was like nine or ten,
• 3:37
Speaker 4: and I started playing organized basketball and soccer when I
• 3:41
Speaker 4: was four, and I did travel soccer too. But we
• 3:46
Speaker 4: came back from a national Yboa tournament. We were the
• 3:48
Speaker 4: first team from West Virginia to win. It ended up
• 3:52
Speaker 4: in Sports illustrated faces in the crowd, and I'm just like, wow,
• 3:58
  Speaker 4: I'm actually I'm right.
• 4:02
Speaker 2: Well, well, well you're more than all right for sure.
• 4:05
Speaker 2: And I'm just going to start to here now again.
• 4:08
Speaker 2: So sometimes we do our little barbershop, the base and
• 4:11
Speaker 2: all that Missus Hollis and a lot of times were
• 4:15
Speaker 2: here in West Virginia, and I guess any state would
• 4:17
Speaker 2: do it. They always talk about who's the greatest basketball
• 4:21
Speaker 2: football player? D D. I would say, this is my
• 4:25
Speaker 2: opinion that that Lexus Hornbuckle is the greatest basketball player
• 4:32
Speaker 2: men and women ever in the state of West Virginia.
• 4:35
Speaker 2: How would you respond to that, Don't give me the
• 4:37
Speaker 2: humble because you all work. Don't give me the humble.
• 4:42
Speaker 4: You asking me to not give you something I would.
• 4:47
Speaker 4: I would. I would definitely gonna argue that. You know,
• 4:51
Speaker 4: you know, I'm not gonna disagree for sure, and I
• 4:54
Speaker 4: would gladly, humbly accept that. I do definitely feel like
• 4:58
Speaker 4: I put on I put in the word. And if
• 5:00
Speaker 4: we're going back just looking at it statistically or on papers, yeah,
• 5:05
Speaker 4: I think my resume.
• 5:06
Speaker 2: Kind of because I mean, let's look at the paper though,
• 5:08
Speaker 2: let's look at those statistics, because we got. We got
• 5:11
Speaker 2: because you went to two different high schools. So you
• 5:13
Speaker 2: went to Capitol first, did you go to South Charleston?
• 5:16
Speaker 2: You want two championships at Capitol? Am I correct?
• 5:20
  Speaker 4: Correct?
• 5:20
Speaker 2: You want two at South Charleston? Am I correct?
• 5:23
  Speaker 4: Correct?
• 5:25
Speaker 2: Yeah? Schools four straight championships in high school, which is
• 5:32
Speaker 2: probably unheard of, except you know, maybe way back in
• 5:34
Speaker 2: the day or something. McDonald's All American High School, All American.
• 5:38
Speaker 2: You go to the program at the time, which was
• 5:41
Speaker 2: Pat Summer's Tennessee Volunteers. So I would say, yeah that, lady,
• 5:47
Speaker 2: excuse me, I would definitely say I think you could
• 5:51
Speaker 2: hold that title, and I would argue anybody down with that.
• 5:53
Speaker 4: Yeah. Absolutely appreciate that. I appreciate it.
• 5:56
Speaker 5: Hey, Alexis, this is Lisa, So so thank you for
• 5:59
Speaker 5: coming on to the podcast tonight. So one of the
• 6:02
Speaker 5: things I wanted to add to what Hollis was just saying,
• 6:05
Speaker 5: was one of the experiences that you had, and you
• 6:07
Speaker 5: are one of the you are the only one that
• 6:10
Speaker 5: had had this experience, was in two thousand and eight
• 6:13
Speaker 5: when the Lady Vols the University of Tennessee won the
• 6:15
Speaker 5: national championship, and then the very next year you win
• 6:19
Speaker 5: another championship with the WNBA with Detroit Shock.
• 6:22
Speaker 6: Is that correct, yes, ma'am.
• 6:24
Speaker 5: So how was that experience? I mean, I'm sure you
• 6:26
Speaker 5: were just elated about all that.
• 6:29
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, it was. And again it was something that
• 6:32
Speaker 4: was real, like two thousand and eight happened. It was
• 6:34
Speaker 4: a lot that happened in two thousand and eight, So
• 6:36
Speaker 4: happened relatively fast, and your.
• 6:39
Speaker 5: Head was spinning. Really, I said, your head was probably spinning.
• 6:44
Speaker 4: Oh, it was definitely spinning, and it was just hard
• 6:48
Speaker 4: to really take it in because at that point in time,
• 6:51
Speaker 4: as far as just missally and where my mental health was, like,
• 6:54
Speaker 4: I was just really programmed for like what's next, what's next? Okay,
• 6:58
Speaker 4: we did that, what's next? You know, just just chasing
• 7:02
Speaker 4: success and winning because I hate los. So it was
• 7:07
Speaker 4: just like it took me well into a couple of
• 7:11
Speaker 4: months of being in this simbul turkey my first year
• 7:14
Speaker 4: overseas playing for Bettie to be like, oh my gosh, like,
• 7:18
Speaker 4: let me let me run that back real quick, like
• 7:21
Speaker 4: it was wild. It was wild.
• 7:23
Speaker 2: When when was when was the first time that you actually,
• 7:30
Speaker 2: let's say on the court, you really let's say, you've
• 7:34
Speaker 2: done something, won the game, did whatever that made you
• 7:40
Speaker 2: think like wow, like you know, like I am I
• 7:45
Speaker 2: really am this person? Because I think there's a difference
• 7:47
Speaker 2: in reflecting on being good, being great, being the best
• 7:53
Speaker 2: and then in a moment that something actually happens to
• 7:58
Speaker 2: make you say, yeah, I guess I really really am
• 8:02
Speaker 2: You know you do you have that moment?
• 8:05
Speaker 4: Oh, I can't really pinpoint it because it didn't really
• 8:10
Speaker 4: happen for me, like in a game, right, it's at
• 8:14
  Speaker 4: the park.
• 8:16
Speaker 2: It happened at the park.
• 8:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, like freetball, because you know, once you can compete
• 8:21
Speaker 4: and hold your own, especially as a girl, Like it
• 8:25
Speaker 4: hits different like, oh, I'm scoring at will now, Okay,
• 8:28
Speaker 4: I can lock down, Okay, I can read defense better,
• 8:31
Speaker 4: I can you know, my angles are getting better, like
• 8:33
Speaker 4: just understanding the game, moving at a faster pace, getting stronger,
• 8:37
Speaker 4: being able to make touch shots. Like all of that
• 8:39
Speaker 4: for me was really happening from playing outside with my
• 8:43
Speaker 4: brother and like in the neighborhood and stuff.
• 8:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, And I want to talk on that because you know,
• 8:50
Speaker 2: going from high and I talked about high school where,
• 8:52
Speaker 2: like I said, you were a prolific basketball player here
• 8:54
Speaker 2: in the state of West Virginia. I think you averaged
• 8:56
Speaker 2: probably thirty points, probably darning or triple double maybe throughout
• 9:00
Speaker 2: your whole years of high school. Then I can remember
• 9:02
Speaker 2: watching you at Tennessee and I can see how your
• 9:05
Speaker 2: game had changed, where you had become sort of an
• 9:07
Speaker 2: all around not only contributing on the offensive end, getting rebounds,
• 9:12
Speaker 2: getting to assists, you know, being a lockdown defender. Like
• 9:15
Speaker 2: when you had to the transition in your game, how
• 9:19
Speaker 2: would you sort of express that because I know you
• 9:21
Speaker 2: do a little coaching too, So how would you tell kids, like,
• 9:24
Speaker 2: you know, if you're going from one level to the next,
• 9:26
Speaker 2: your game has to change, But that doesn't mean that
• 9:29
Speaker 2: your production and you still won't get the shine that
• 9:31
  Speaker 2: you need.
• 9:33
Speaker 4: Yeah. For me, yeah, I was. My father taught me
• 9:38
Speaker 4: how to like evaluate the situation, know your role, and
• 9:44
  Speaker 4: then go dominate.
• 9:46
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 9:46
Speaker 4: So in high school I had to be that player, right,
• 9:49
Speaker 4: I had to do it all. I had to sit
• 9:51
Speaker 4: on both ends of the court. In college, yes, I
• 9:53
Speaker 4: had to do it, but I also didn't have to
• 9:56
Speaker 4: do it because I'm playing alongside all other mcdonald' all
• 10:00
Speaker 4: Americans and high school all Americans, Gatorade all Americans. Yeah, so
• 10:05
Speaker 4: I like to win, Like I said, So, if you're
• 10:07
Speaker 4: a true winner, if you're a true competitor, you know
• 10:10
Speaker 4: your skill set and you're confident in what you do,
• 10:13
Speaker 4: and you stay coachable so that you can learn how
• 10:16
Speaker 4: to adapt to any type of structure, any type of system,
• 10:19
Speaker 4: any type of team, because things will change. Your game
• 10:23
Speaker 4: will have to be evolved. It may have to it
• 10:25
Speaker 4: may have to get sped up. You might have to
• 10:26
Speaker 4: get stronger, you might have to study more film because
• 10:30
Speaker 4: your basketball Q isn't at the level it needs to
• 10:32
Speaker 4: be compared to your counterparts. There's just things that if
• 10:35
Speaker 4: you think you got to figure it out and you
• 10:37
Speaker 4: already and you ain't one not a championship or a
• 10:40
Speaker 4: gold medal, or you ain't already drafted or in the
• 10:43
Speaker 4: Hall of Fame, then you were you're doing it wrong.
• 10:46
  Speaker 2: That's excellent. I think that's any athlete.
• 10:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, so absolutely, Oh for sure, Alexis So, I
• 10:54
Speaker 5: know two thousand and eight when you were drafted into
• 10:56
Speaker 5: the w NBA, it was it was early in that
• 11:00
Speaker 5: actual league. And so now we're in the year twenty
• 11:03
Speaker 5: twenty five, what are your thoughts on the growth and
• 11:05
Speaker 5: future of the of the nw w NBA.
• 11:08
Speaker 4: Now, oh, I love the direction. Yeah, the women's game
• 11:13
Speaker 4: as a whole in the past few years. You know,
• 11:17
Speaker 4: the little petty part of me is like dang, but
• 11:24
Speaker 4: I'm like ye. But on top of that, just the game,
• 11:27
Speaker 4: the viewership, the participation, the support. Now you have other
• 11:33
Speaker 4: other pro leagues, semi pro league happening, but the w
• 11:36
Speaker 4: NBA is finally stepping up and doing the little things
• 11:39
Speaker 4: like we shouldn't. I mean, we're charter flights versus commercial flights,
• 11:43
Speaker 4: but you know those are I was shocked. Guys. Let
• 11:46
Speaker 4: me tell y'all something I'll finished. I will finish answer
• 11:48
Speaker 4: this question. Abad So sometimes I got to get this
• 11:52
Speaker 4: out before I forget So. So in two thousand and eight,
• 11:56
Speaker 4: of course, you know, I'm four years spoiled at Tennessee,
• 11:59
Speaker 4: I'm in Detroit. We get in that itinerary to fly
• 12:02
Speaker 4: out the next day, and they talked about we got
• 12:05
Speaker 4: to be at the gymal four hours early because it's
• 12:06
Speaker 4: the hours to the airport and we need to check
• 12:08
Speaker 4: in two hours early first off check in?
• 12:10
  Speaker 2: What is that?
• 12:15
Speaker 4: We don't up to the plan. So I'm very happy
• 12:22
Speaker 4: for all the women in the w NBA and all
• 12:24
Speaker 4: the future young ladies that will be a part of it.
• 12:26
Speaker 4: Did they get to feel like a pro you know
• 12:29
Speaker 4: how it should have been and that separation. And I
• 12:32
Speaker 4: hope it continues to grow. I hope, you know, the pay,
• 12:34
Speaker 4: the salary continues to grow up, the opportunity to continue
• 12:37
Speaker 4: to grow because it's great for women's basketball.
• 12:40
Speaker 2: That was one of the things I was going to
• 12:41
Speaker 2: bring up was the actual dollars, dollars and cents when
• 12:46
Speaker 2: it comes to men's sports and women's sports. To me,
• 12:51
Speaker 2: when I look at the w NBA and which I look,
• 12:55
Speaker 2: which I would prefer to watch over the NBA. To
• 12:58
Speaker 2: be honest, it looks they play harder. It's it's it's
• 13:03
  Speaker 2: it's just it's just a it's more teamwork. It seems
• 13:06
Speaker 2: like just the whole thing. And I'm not even a
• 13:08
Speaker 2: basketball player, but I would prefer to watch the w
• 13:14
Speaker 2: n B a because of the work that they put in.
• 13:17
Speaker 2: The question like, at what point in time do you
• 13:20
Speaker 2: think that there's going to be a reasoning somebody's gonna
• 13:25
Speaker 2: come in and say, Okay, look we got to up
• 13:27
Speaker 2: this money, like right now.
• 13:29
  Speaker 4: Like.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: What I mean, what is what do you think is
• 13:34
Speaker 2: holding it back? Why? Is because I think everybody publicly
• 13:39
Speaker 2: thinks it should be as close as way closer to
• 13:43
Speaker 2: the NBA or as an equal to Like are we
• 13:47
  Speaker 2: wrong on that?
• 13:49
Speaker 4: No? Absolutely not wrong on that, especially if you're looking
• 13:52
Speaker 4: at the money that's being thrown around.
• 13:53
  Speaker 2: For n I L yeah, I did. That's a great point,
• 13:57
  Speaker 2: because I didn't. I didn't even look at that as
• 13:59
  Speaker 2: a point.
• 14:01
Speaker 4: You can't you can't say the money is not out there, right,
• 14:06
Speaker 4: I'm not. I'm unsure how to fully answer that question.
• 14:09
Speaker 4: Because it just comes down to doing. The people that
• 14:12
Speaker 4: have the money, the people that have the power and
• 14:14
Speaker 4: the positions do it. So until they they stop the
• 14:18
Speaker 4: conversation and make it about action, it's it's going to
• 14:22
Speaker 4: just continue to climb an increments rather than just take off.
• 14:26
Speaker 4: But the good part about it is the conversation is
• 14:29
Speaker 4: so loud now you can't turn it down. Right. We're
• 14:31
Speaker 4: in the error of social media, instant instant information, so
• 14:35
Speaker 4: it's harder for people to sell dreams in a sense
• 14:39
Speaker 4: of oh, yeah, this would be a great idea, and
• 14:41
Speaker 4: we know that people the w NBA needs more money. Okay,
• 14:44
Speaker 4: so why are we not investing in this? Why are
• 14:46
Speaker 4: we're not supporting it? Why are we're not helping the
• 14:48
Speaker 4: raise the bar, the salary, the salary, cast and all
• 14:51
Speaker 4: that good stuff. So until just words become action, I
• 14:56
Speaker 4: don't have a better answer for you, to be honest,
• 15:00
  Speaker 4: hollis you.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: Of course, Yeah, just like I said, you know, you
• 15:05
Speaker 2: mentioned that you play soccer a lot of times when
• 15:06
Speaker 2: we talk about on the show, we talk about, you know,
• 15:10
Speaker 2: particularly what Coachly does in his day job as far
• 15:12
Speaker 2: as developing youth athletes. What I always noticed about you
• 15:17
Speaker 2: and I remember you playing soccer, and I also remember
• 15:20
Speaker 2: you know you're just accolades on the basketball court. How
• 15:22
Speaker 2: important was it in your early development just to be
• 15:25
Speaker 2: an athlete. Didn't kind of focusing that in to being
• 15:28
Speaker 2: a great basketball player?
• 15:32
Speaker 4: Man, it was. It's important because how you do anything
• 15:35
Speaker 4: is how you do everything. So it doesn't it doesn't
• 15:38
Speaker 4: matter what I'm playing or what I'm doing is I
• 15:41
Speaker 4: think it's a competition, which almost everything is. To me,
• 15:45
Speaker 4: I want to learn it, teach me. I want to
• 15:47
Speaker 4: learn it. Now, I want to try it, and now
• 15:49
Speaker 4: I want to master it or dominate it. So especially
• 15:52
Speaker 4: in the sport world. And I'm the younger sister. My
• 15:55
Speaker 4: brother and I were fifteen months apart, so I'm trying
• 15:57
Speaker 4: to keep up with him, do what he does, you
• 15:59
Speaker 4: know what I mean? And then growing up in the
• 16:03
Speaker 4: bottom and dunbar and the most it's just like you
• 16:06
  Speaker 4: can't be soft. You can't. If I if I want
• 16:09
Speaker 4: to play with the boys, I gotta want to compete
• 16:11
Speaker 4: and beat the boys. So yeah, it just came down to,
• 16:16
Speaker 4: like I want to beat the boys. I don't want
• 16:18
Speaker 4: to be the best girl, Like I want to be
• 16:19
Speaker 4: the best out here, right, So that was soccer. That
• 16:22
Speaker 4: was basketball, and soccer obviously is an advantage when it
• 16:27
Speaker 4: comes to conditioning, agility, right footwork, even court vision because
• 16:32
Speaker 4: in angles, if I can make certain passes on a
• 16:34
Speaker 4: soccer field, what am I going to do in ninety
• 16:36
Speaker 4: four feet? That's easy money, that's nice?
• 16:40
Speaker 2: So so what what?
• 16:41
  Speaker 4: So? What?
• 16:41
Speaker 2: What is? What is Lexus hornbook up to nowadays? What's
• 16:44
  Speaker 2: going on? Now?
• 16:45
Speaker 4: Oh man? Nowadays? I have a mental performance coaching for
• 16:49
Speaker 4: pro athletes. I've been doing that for about four years now.
• 16:52
Speaker 2: Now what is what is that? Explain that?
• 16:56
Speaker 4: Uh So? Mental performance coaching is exactly what it sounds.
• 16:59
Speaker 4: So you know you have your strength and conditioning coaches,
• 17:01
Speaker 4: your physical therapists, your athletic trainers, right, the people that
• 17:04
Speaker 4: put you through your physical training. So on the mental part,
• 17:09
Speaker 4: it's the mental training aspect of it. We know that
• 17:12
Speaker 4: all sports or success in and of itself is about
• 17:16
Speaker 4: at least eighty percent mental right physical or performance. So
• 17:21
Speaker 4: if I can train my mind, if I can get
• 17:23
Speaker 4: those muscles right, if I can figure out my triggers,
• 17:26
Speaker 4: like why do I have negative self talk? Or if
• 17:28
Speaker 4: I'm dealing with imposters imposter syndrome or intrusive thoughts or
• 17:34
Speaker 4: lack of focus. You know, it's giving people tools. Sometimes
• 17:40
Speaker 4: it's as simple as you know, pause and prey, meditate,
• 17:44
Speaker 4: being intentional about mindfulness, whether that's reading books, taking walk,
• 17:48
Speaker 4: whatever it is that you like to do outside of
• 17:50
Speaker 4: your sport, but also daily routines, vision boards, setting goals.
• 17:56
Speaker 4: And then what type of athlete are you?
• 17:58
  Speaker 2: Like?
• 17:58
Speaker 4: Do you are you more of an outcome goal person
• 18:01
Speaker 4: and you succeed and thrive well in that? Are you
• 18:03
Speaker 4: more of a process goal person? So do you care
• 18:05
Speaker 4: about the finish line like I just need to be
• 18:08
Speaker 4: number one? Right? Or for you to really perform to
• 18:11
Speaker 4: get to number one? Do you need to focus on
• 18:13
Speaker 4: the process goals? So in order for me to be
• 18:15
Speaker 4: number one? What do I have to do right? And
• 18:18
Speaker 4: every athlete is different. There's there's foundations and fundamental tools
• 18:22
Speaker 4: and things that we share with our athletes, but it's
• 18:26
Speaker 4: more about breaking that down and finding that right road
• 18:29
Speaker 4: so that that mental performance elevates their sport performance.
• 18:33
Speaker 2: That's awesome, that's great. And you know what's interesting to
• 18:35
Speaker 2: me as you were as you were going through that list,
• 18:39
Speaker 2: I was sitting here thinking like, gosh, I can remember
• 18:43
Speaker 2: writing on a piece of paper, first team All Conference,
• 18:47
Speaker 2: first team All State North South football game for my
• 18:51
Speaker 2: senior year, and you and and and you do work
• 18:55
Speaker 2: toward that. But I don't know if kids buy into
• 18:59
Speaker 2: that now, Like I don't know if they understand like
• 19:02
Speaker 2: writing something down, saying it every day, looking at it
• 19:06
Speaker 2: every day, that makes you work like cause like you're
• 19:10
Speaker 2: going to put some work in. If those are the
• 19:12
Speaker 2: things that cause you can't just put that on your wall,
• 19:15
Speaker 2: walk and walk away and do nothing, to just sit
• 19:17
Speaker 2: at the kitchen table like chilling. You got to put
• 19:21
Speaker 2: work in. And I and I don't know if if
• 19:24
Speaker 2: today's kids, young athletes understand the importance of saying who
• 19:33
Speaker 2: and what you want to be?
• 19:36
  Speaker 3: Right?
• 19:36
Speaker 2: Would you? Would you? I was gonna say, do you
• 19:38
Speaker 2: agree with that? Because and and and where do you
• 19:41
Speaker 2: get How do we get that to them? Now? Like
• 19:45
Speaker 2: my mom my dad didn't necessarily have to get that,
• 19:47
Speaker 2: They didn't have to drive that in me. It was
• 19:50
Speaker 2: something that I think came with me and then they
• 19:54
Speaker 2: magnified it in every area. Make sure you get your school,
• 19:58
Speaker 2: make sure you get up and get your your get
• 20:00
Speaker 2: out there and run and do those kinds of things.
• 20:03
Speaker 2: Is that is that something that's lost now or are
• 20:06
Speaker 2: we just over are we missing it, overlooking it or.
• 20:09
Speaker 4: What It's definitely lost in a sense of the majority
• 20:15
Speaker 4: of the kids being able to have it in them
• 20:17
Speaker 4: or do it on their own. They're having to be taught.
• 20:20
Speaker 4: Even the parents are having to be taught. Really, and
• 20:23
Speaker 4: I think that's necessary. One of the reasons we partner
• 20:27
Speaker 4: with the YMCA here in East Tennessee and we actually
• 20:31
Speaker 4: started implementing programs into local high school so where my
• 20:37
Speaker 4: business partner and I we go in with one of
• 20:39
  Speaker 4: the y m c A reps and we talk them,
• 20:43
Speaker 4: talk to them with the coaches in there, and we
• 20:46
Speaker 4: get them a game plan for the mental aspect, the affirmations,
• 20:49
Speaker 4: the list of gratitude, the routine, and we teach them
• 20:54
Speaker 4: how to use it, why to use it journaling, And
• 20:59
Speaker 4: it goes on for about four weeks or so, and
• 21:02
Speaker 4: it's just it's just it's imperative for them to understand.
• 21:07
Speaker 4: Everybody's good as you continue to get to higher levels, right, yeah,
• 21:11
Speaker 4: so what's going to separate you apart? And everybody wants me, well,
• 21:14
Speaker 4: I'll be faster than everybody. I can outjump everybody out
• 21:17
Speaker 4: to know, because somebody's gonna be able to still run
• 21:20
Speaker 4: and jump as fast and its high as you. So
• 21:23
Speaker 4: what's going to set you apart? It's going to be
• 21:24
Speaker 4: your mindset, your mental resilience, your mental toughness. How do
• 21:28
Speaker 4: I bounce back? How do I pivot? How quickly can
• 21:31
Speaker 4: I adapt? And when I am really pissed off or
• 21:35
Speaker 4: I'm playing terrible, like, what do I do in these times?
• 21:39
Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. And the earlier you can
• 21:41
Speaker 4: learn these skills and tools and start to implement them,
• 21:44
Speaker 4: like intentionally practice them. Then as you continue to elevate
• 21:50
Speaker 4: at collegiate and pro level, you know, it's like it's
• 21:53
Speaker 4: like walking, you know, second nature any who you are.
• 21:58
  Speaker 4: So I think, yeah, it's it's much needed. It's missing
• 22:01
Speaker 4: and it's much needed. So yeah, y'all holler at me,
• 22:03
Speaker 4: go to elections, Hormbuckle dot com, reach out any of
• 22:06
Speaker 4: my will figure it out. Because the company I work with,
• 22:09
Speaker 4: we do schools, organizations, teams. Uh, we've expanded just from
• 22:13
Speaker 4: pro league teams to all of what I just mentioned.
• 22:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, give them the give them the website one more time.
• 22:18
Speaker 4: Alectionis Hornbuckle dot com.
• 22:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, man, don't reach out, man, Hey, right, and if
• 22:24
Speaker 2: you want, if you want, if you go to let's
• 22:27
Speaker 2: talk with Carley on On on my Facebook page, send
• 22:32
Speaker 2: me some of that information and hey, I'll shoot it
• 22:35
  Speaker 2: out there.
• 22:36
Speaker 4: Absolutely I appreciate that.
• 22:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because I mean because because, for a fact,
• 22:41
Speaker 2: that is the most critical piece crib of anybody's hope
• 22:45
Speaker 2: for success, not even to get to success, but I
• 22:48
Speaker 2: hope to even have. And I would say, in addition
• 22:50
Speaker 2: to athletics, just even in your professional career, because you
• 22:53
Speaker 2: can have all of the things you talked about, the
• 22:56
Speaker 2: negative self talk, to imposter syndrome, you can have that,
• 22:58
Speaker 2: you know, as you elevating climb quote unquote corporate latter.
• 23:01
Speaker 2: So everything you said is vital and and and definitely important.
• 23:05
Speaker 2: And I'll say this before we close out. We got
• 23:07
Speaker 2: the Carl Lee Award for the best defensive back in
• 23:11
Speaker 2: high school West Virginia. We need to do. We got
• 23:13
  Speaker 2: a Lexus hornbook.
• 23:16
  Speaker 4: And.
• 23:20
Speaker 2: I think we gotta start. I gotta talk. I gotta
• 23:22
Speaker 2: talk to boss Man. You know what I'm saying. That's
• 23:25
Speaker 2: her cousin is Sewn Hornbuckle, delicate. I call him boss Man.
• 23:31
Speaker 2: So I gotta talk to boss Man. We gotta pick
• 23:32
Speaker 2: that together. We gotta do that.
• 23:34
Speaker 4: But see this, this is my problem.
• 23:37
Speaker 2: This is my problem with what we don't do for
• 23:40
Speaker 2: athletes that come out of here like that. That's that's
• 23:43
Speaker 2: an easy see. I got this man on his so
• 23:48
Speaker 2: I'm here now. That's that's my that is that is
• 23:51
Speaker 2: my complete fight. Is just because for every kid, they're
• 23:56
Speaker 2: gonna look at somebody that may be you, that be me,
• 24:00
Speaker 2: that may be Hollans, that may be Lisa, that may
• 24:02
Speaker 2: be anybody we got. You gotta celebrate that achievement and
• 24:08
Speaker 2: and you got to put it out there to people
• 24:10
Speaker 2: to see because we gotta we gotta do that. I mean,
• 24:14
Speaker 2: we got to do that, and we just haven't done it.
• 24:16
Speaker 2: We get mad at people, you know, we get mad
• 24:18
Speaker 2: at Kurt Warner because he don't come back. But he
• 24:21
Speaker 2: still was the number one draft pick in the league.
• 24:24
Speaker 2: You still got he he was the best back in
• 24:27
Speaker 2: the nation out of high school from Ponville, West Virginia.
• 24:30
Speaker 2: You gotta put that out there. So that's that's just
• 24:38
Speaker 2: I haven't I'm touchy about that kind of stuff because
• 24:41
  Speaker 2: I just know I don't think we do a good
• 24:43
Speaker 2: job of allowing our young athletes to understand who came
• 24:49
Speaker 2: before them and who you can be? See see if
• 24:52
Speaker 2: Prime was, But you know Prime already got his son,
• 24:54
Speaker 2: Jersey retire. We're dragging our feet, we're dragging off. Hey, Well,
• 25:03
Speaker 2: we truly, truly, truly appreciate you being on and I'm
• 25:06
Speaker 2: sure that there's a chance we may try to call
• 25:08
Speaker 2: you back sometime soon.
• 25:09
Speaker 6: Thank you, all right, thank you.
• 25:11
Speaker 4: I appreciate it. All right.
• 25:12
Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna I'm gonna just I gotta throw this
• 25:24
Speaker 2: out there. I just got to throw this out there. Okay,
• 25:28
Speaker 2: is there any possible way that there should not be
• 25:32
Speaker 2: something with her name on it? Oh?
• 25:36
  Speaker 6: Is there not?
• 25:37
Speaker 2: I would think an award for what I don't think
• 25:40
Speaker 2: it is, because I mean, if you look at her
• 25:42
Speaker 2: and Montgomery, it's gotta be it should be something.
• 25:46
Speaker 5: Right, I'm not sure the boys basketball do they have
• 25:51
Speaker 5: like named after a players?
• 25:54
  Speaker 2: But I don't know if they have like a I
• 25:55
Speaker 2: don't even know if they got like a Dre West Award,
• 25:58
Speaker 2: which is insane because we got Jerry West, you got
• 26:03
Speaker 2: hot Rod Huntley because you got to West Virginia. Charleston,
• 26:06
Speaker 2: how Towns is the only the only school with two
• 26:09
Speaker 2: number one draft picks. So I forget the gentleman in
• 26:11
  Speaker 2: the fit.
• 26:11
Speaker 6: I'm looked it up, Jason Williams. That's another one awards.
• 26:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, so I mean, but when you say Lexis Hornbocal,
• 26:18
  Speaker 2: I'm talking about she's the great. She's she's arguably the
• 26:21
Speaker 2: greatest high school basketball player to ever come out of
• 26:24
Speaker 2: this state. And it's and to your point, she won
• 26:27
Speaker 2: a championship in college the same she wanted w NBA
• 26:31
Speaker 2: championship in one single year. And yeah, she plays at
• 26:36
Speaker 2: the school for two years now, state championship, goes to
• 26:39
Speaker 2: another school and a state champion for two more and
• 26:43
Speaker 2: and go to college national and go to college and
• 26:46
  Speaker 2: w n B A.
• 26:47
  Speaker 6: W n She's got a little bit of hardware.
• 26:51
Speaker 2: There's a common denominator in those championship. Yeah, of course,
• 26:55
Speaker 2: So we definitely want to look into that see if
• 26:58
Speaker 2: there's anything and if it's not, we got to start
• 27:01
  Speaker 2: petitioning that.
• 27:02
  Speaker 3: Well.
• 27:03
Speaker 2: One of the things I think, I don't know if
• 27:05
Speaker 2: it'll happen, if we could find a way to get
• 27:08
Speaker 2: people to come on the show who are part of
• 27:12
Speaker 2: the recognition piece of it. Not I'm not gonna say
• 27:15
Speaker 2: people who actually do it because they're not gonna come
• 27:17
Speaker 2: because they're not going to try to justify why they don't.
• 27:20
Speaker 2: But I mean, how, you know, how do we find
• 27:23
Speaker 2: a method of Well, you you got the Inside School,
• 27:28
  Speaker 2: you got award.
• 27:30
Speaker 6: You're the guy with the show award.
• 27:35
Speaker 2: Okay, but here's to the car Le Award. I so
• 27:39
Speaker 2: appreciate it. I so appreciate it. I ain't not nothing
• 27:42
Speaker 2: about it. And that's crazy. I didn't know anything about it.
• 27:46
Speaker 2: Like nobody called me, nobody said hey, we're going to
• 27:48
Speaker 2: do this. I did not know anything about it.
• 27:51
  Speaker 6: That I didn't realize that.
• 27:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's what I mean, Like if you're going to, like,
• 27:56
Speaker 2: for example, if you give out those works, because I
• 27:58
Speaker 2: know they do, like the Athletic State, then after Jennerby
• 28:01
Speaker 2: in the Winner after the football season, it's like, why
• 28:04
Speaker 2: wouldn't you invite you to exactly to actually present for award?
• 28:08
Speaker 2: Like I don't want to understand like how we do things.
• 28:11
Speaker 2: And if and let me just say this, if by
• 28:13
Speaker 2: some chance I missed a call or whatever and somebody
• 28:17
Speaker 2: attempted to try to get to me, I may have
• 28:20
Speaker 2: missed you, okay, but like I didn't know, like I
• 28:25
Speaker 2: literally did not know that I was even that that
• 28:28
Speaker 2: was even gonna be a thing that's wild, you know,
• 28:32
Speaker 2: all right, So let's take a break and we will
• 28:33
  Speaker 2: be right back.
• 28:34
Speaker 7: Let's face it, bad things happen to good people seriously
• 28:38

• 29:36
Speaker 2: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're back guys, guy and lady.
• 29:45
Speaker 2: That was That was. That was one of the interviews
• 29:50
Speaker 2: that I will not forget for the simple fact of
• 29:55
Speaker 2: so many positive things that she said about work ethic,
• 29:58
Speaker 2: her own work ethic and all those kinds of things,
• 30:00
Speaker 2: the things that she had to do, and where they
• 30:03
Speaker 2: put her, and when you put wherever she went, championships
• 30:07
Speaker 2: went with her. You know, she didn't go yeah, yeah,
• 30:10
Speaker 2: she didn't. She didn't. She didn't go anywhere where there
• 30:14
Speaker 2: was a championship. She went and made a championship. And
• 30:16
Speaker 2: I think when you when you start looking at that
• 30:18
Speaker 2: type of talent, you look at that type I can't
• 30:20
Speaker 2: even imagine the mindset that she would have on the floor.
• 30:24
Speaker 2: She ain't losing, you know what I'm saying.
• 30:26
Speaker 6: She said that she's very competitive. You can hear it,
• 30:28
Speaker 6: and you can you can hear it.
• 30:30
Speaker 2: You can hear it in her voice. All right, So.
• 30:36
Speaker 6: Speaking of competitive, speaking.
• 30:38
Speaker 2: Of competitive, So this is a this is a topic
• 30:44
Speaker 2: that I'm not necessarily I'm not sure how this is
• 30:48
Speaker 2: going to go between me and Hollis Aaron Rodgers.
• 30:56
Speaker 6: Mm hmm. Okay, he said, should we play the clip?
• 31:03
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, let's let's let Yeah, you got the clip
• 31:05
Speaker 2: for us, all right, Yeah, let's play this.
• 31:06
Speaker 8: Every single one of the teams I talk to, you know,
• 31:09
Speaker 8: laining about the money. I'll play for ten ms. You know,
• 31:13
  Speaker 8: I don't care. I never once said I need a
• 31:15
Speaker 8: multi year deal. Thirty forty million dollars is absolute bull.
• 31:19
Speaker 8: I said, I play for ten Yeah whatever.
• 31:25
Speaker 5: I'm just going to start this conversation right now before
• 31:28
Speaker 5: we talk about the amount of money, the dollars and
• 31:32
Speaker 5: cents of it. I mean, this is not a good
• 31:34
Speaker 5: look for Aaron Rodgers. This whole sympathetic figure.
• 31:39
  Speaker 6: Woe is me.
• 31:40
Speaker 5: I'll play for you know, ten million, and and just
• 31:44
Speaker 5: the whole victim outlook that he's trying to that vibe
• 31:47
Speaker 5: that is that is not him, And to me, he's
• 31:49
  Speaker 5: losing credibility.
• 31:51
Speaker 6: I don't know about you guys, but.
• 31:53
  Speaker 2: I don't I think in his mind. I think this
• 31:57
Speaker 2: is a pity party. Now. Yeah, we're four like, yeah,
• 32:01
Speaker 2: I'm gonna play. Yeah, I can play. I can still
• 32:04
Speaker 2: play the question ten ten you know, you throw ten
• 32:10
Speaker 2: mil out and and in today's game, that ain't that's
• 32:14
Speaker 2: not a quarterback, not quarterback, but what if he Let's
• 32:19
Speaker 2: assume the reason why he hasn't gotten a contract, okay,
• 32:25
Speaker 2: is because nobody thinks that he's really prepared. He's not.
• 32:28
  Speaker 2: I don't won't stay prepared. He he just doesn't have
• 32:31
Speaker 2: it anymore. So if I give you ten the one
• 32:35
Speaker 2: thing I'm guaranted, I guarantee you this, it's gonna be
• 32:38
Speaker 2: guaranteed ten. Yeah, you know, so now you want you
• 32:42
Speaker 2: want to guarantee me ten? I want you to guarantee
• 32:45
Speaker 2: me ten million dollars and and I'm not sure. I
• 32:51
Speaker 2: don't even know if I can play. And just to
• 32:53
Speaker 2: put a clip just a little context, basically what happened
• 32:56
Speaker 2: was he was in California, flew across the country, he
• 32:59
Speaker 2: met with the and the new Jets coach, Aaron Glenn
• 33:02
Speaker 2: basically just told him, hey, we're going in a different direction.
• 33:05
Speaker 2: He was a little perturbed because he said, you could
• 33:07
Speaker 2: have told me that over the phone. But I guess
• 33:09
Speaker 2: the question I would have, like, if you're the stealers,
• 33:11
Speaker 2: and I think that's who's the stealers are the Vikings,
• 33:14
Speaker 2: that's who's talking about possibly him joining the squad, Like
• 33:18
Speaker 2: why I just don't understand you. Again, I've talked about
• 33:22
Speaker 2: it before. This is a different game as far as
• 33:27
Speaker 2: the type of quarterbacks that we see winning and getting
• 33:30
Speaker 2: deep playoff runs. We're looking at more athletic apematics, movement, movement,
• 33:33
Speaker 2: who could move and actually run the ball. And then
• 33:36
  Speaker 2: you're and again, you're not a Tom Brady where you're
• 33:39
Speaker 2: not like this revered team guy, this fearless leader who's
• 33:44
Speaker 2: doing everything possible. He's eating all the little bird stuff
• 33:49
Speaker 2: and doing all the new innovative exercise. You're not that guy.
• 33:52
Speaker 2: You're not Tom Brady. So if I'm an organization, why
• 33:56
Speaker 2: even at ten million, which is a bargain quote unquote
• 33:59
Speaker 2: forour quote the back of maybe his caliber, Why go
• 34:02
Speaker 2: that way? Why not just either get somebody I can develop,
• 34:06
Speaker 2: or just get somebody in the draft or draft somebody who's,
• 34:09
Speaker 2: you know, in their twenties. I just don't understand why
• 34:12
Speaker 2: you would even bring him in at this point. He clearly,
• 34:14
Speaker 2: to your point, he's kind of wishy washy about whether
• 34:17
Speaker 2: he wants to play or not. And he's clearly not
• 34:20
Speaker 2: the same player he was when he was with Green Bay.
• 34:22
Speaker 2: Does anybody think does anybody think he can sit on
• 34:25
Speaker 2: the sideline no and just be there. No. And that's
• 34:29
Speaker 2: what you're not bringing him in for that Now, he's
• 34:31
Speaker 2: not the mentor type, right. If he's not the he
• 34:34
Speaker 2: could be he could be helpful, No, but I don't
• 34:37
Speaker 2: believe it. But mentally he can't be. But I'm just saying.
• 34:40
Speaker 6: Ego gets in the way.
• 34:41
Speaker 5: That too much to ask of him. And the latest
• 34:45
Speaker 5: thing that I saw just a few hours ago, which
• 34:48
Speaker 5: came out on social media, I think it might have
• 34:50
Speaker 5: been Twitter that the reason he has not committed to
• 34:53
Speaker 5: a team yet is because he's waiting on the draft
• 34:56
Speaker 5: to see, you know, to make a decision on where
• 34:58
Speaker 5: he goes. Because he wants to make sure whatever team
• 35:01
Speaker 5: he attaches his name to, he is the starter. He
• 35:04
Speaker 5: does not want to be behind another name. So that's
• 35:07
Speaker 5: the reason that he's holding out on a commitment.
• 35:09
  Speaker 6: He's not close.
• 35:09
Speaker 5: He won't come out and say, you know, I'm going
• 35:11
Speaker 5: to go play here or there, or you know, I'm
• 35:13
Speaker 5: committed to fill in the blank whatever team it is.
• 35:16
Speaker 5: You know, it's still he thinks it's mister Rogers neighborhood
• 35:18
Speaker 5: and we're all here to serve him. And I loved
• 35:21
Speaker 5: him when he was in Green Bay. You know, I'm
• 35:22
Speaker 5: I'm a big Packer fan. We all know that giggles
• 35:25
Speaker 5: from Carl over there, mister Vikings, But I'm a Packer fan,
• 35:29
Speaker 5: and I you know, at that time when they went
• 35:32
Speaker 5: to that Super Bowl one, that was the style of
• 35:35
Speaker 5: play that a quarterback could be successful. But like you said,
• 35:37
Speaker 5: the game has left him, it's changed, and he's gotten older.
• 35:41
Speaker 5: But in his mind he can't wrap or grasp the
• 35:44
Speaker 5: fact that all of those things are playing a factor
• 35:47
Speaker 5: into whether or not he can continue his career. He
• 35:49
Speaker 5: just can't accept the time to go.
• 35:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think most great athletes probably have a
• 35:54
Speaker 2: hard time with boxes and all that. I'm just saying.
• 35:57
Speaker 2: My comment is just like for a coaches that have
• 36:00
Speaker 2: or the organization, why in the world would you bring
• 36:04
Speaker 2: him in? There's to me, it's almost zero upside. It's
• 36:07
Speaker 2: no upside to bring him in. In my mind, I'm
• 36:10
  Speaker 2: not a great leader, and I'm gonna I'm gonna, I'm
• 36:14
Speaker 2: gonna agree. I'm gonna agree with you on that, Holisy,
• 36:18
Speaker 2: simply because to your point, when you look at him
• 36:23
Speaker 2: and you and you and you listen to him, what
• 36:27
Speaker 2: you hear, he's not saying he's coming in as a backup,
• 36:33
Speaker 2: and I think the Vikings had said something about like
• 36:35
Speaker 2: maybe having him in and then having him you know,
• 36:39
Speaker 2: so that you've got experience coming off the bench in
• 36:43
Speaker 2: case somebody gets hurt or whatever. That ain't what he
• 36:47
Speaker 2: wants and and and and to me, it's clear he's
• 36:51
Speaker 2: looking for a starting job and that and and he
• 36:56
Speaker 2: he he's not mobile enough. There's just no way he's
• 37:00
Speaker 2: going to be mobile enough. I just don't think he.
• 37:05
Speaker 2: I think there's a place in time where you have
• 37:07
Speaker 2: to say that your game is done. I did it.
• 37:11
Speaker 2: A whole host of people did it, and there's a
• 37:14
Speaker 2: whole host of people on the other side who just
• 37:16
Speaker 2: can't let the game go.
• 37:18
Speaker 5: And do you really think he would risk going out
• 37:20
Speaker 5: there playing for just ten million? I know, I know
• 37:22
  Speaker 5: that's not a lot.
• 37:23
Speaker 2: You know, that's I think he definitely would, Like you
• 37:26
Speaker 2: just said this, ego, I mean, I think his his
• 37:28
Speaker 2: to prove everybody. He wants to win another Super Bowl.
• 37:31
Speaker 2: He wants to at least get there. And I think
• 37:33
Speaker 2: it it's just I have to get there. But I
• 37:36
Speaker 2: think even to that point, even everything can leave you physically.
• 37:40
Speaker 2: But if you're a quarterback and you're just not like
• 37:43
Speaker 2: an absolute great leader that that other men want to follow.
• 37:48
Speaker 2: Even if you lack some physical abilities, even if they
• 37:50
Speaker 2: could pitt some running backs around you, you could they
• 37:53
Speaker 2: could probably make up. He still has a good ball,
• 37:55
Speaker 2: he could still slang it, so he's probably they could
• 37:59
Speaker 2: probably you know, fill some holes and for everything that
• 38:02
Speaker 2: he lacks. But I just think on top of what
• 38:05
Speaker 2: you like physically and did you proven over these years,
• 38:08
Speaker 2: But you're just not a great leader, not somebody that
• 38:11
Speaker 2: other men want to follow. I just to me, is
• 38:13
Speaker 2: over not I would just I would go young if
• 38:16
Speaker 2: I was an organization.
• 38:18
  Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't.
• 38:20
Speaker 2: He's not a backup. He's not going to be a backup.
• 38:23
Speaker 2: He's not going to go anywhere. I don't think. No,
• 38:25
  Speaker 2: he's going to That's.
• 38:26
Speaker 6: Why he's waiting for the draft. I mean he will not.
• 38:28
  Speaker 6: He won't even.
• 38:28
Speaker 5: Attach to the Steelers who pursued him probably the probably
• 38:33
Speaker 5: the most or the hardest, as you know, compared to
• 38:36
Speaker 5: other NFL teams, And he won't even he won't even
• 38:39
Speaker 5: like he he did fly to Pittsburgh and talk to management.
• 38:42
Speaker 5: From what I understand it was, it was kind of
• 38:44
Speaker 5: a funny story. It was part of the interview with
• 38:46
Speaker 5: Pat McAfee because I happened to be in the kitchen
• 38:48
Speaker 5: and I heard his voice and I was like, oh boy,
• 38:50
Speaker 5: what's he doing? So I kind of listened to the interview.
• 38:52
Speaker 5: But he flew into Pittsburgh. He flew into an outside airport,
• 38:56
Speaker 5: rented it and Paula and drove over to meet with
• 39:00
Speaker 5: the Steelers management. But he wouldn't make a commitment. So
• 39:03
Speaker 5: to me, they must have said something along the lines of,
• 39:07
Speaker 5: you know, we're gonna wait and see what we do
• 39:08
Speaker 5: in the draft, what's available, and that's why he wouldn't commit,
• 39:11
Speaker 5: because he will not sit on the sidelines.
• 39:13
Speaker 6: He's already made that clear.
• 39:14
Speaker 2: But see that that lack of commitment to them, then
• 39:19
Speaker 2: might be that's it? Well, sure, I mean it should
• 39:22
Speaker 2: be in I would think I would think when I
• 39:26
Speaker 2: look at him, I would let me rephrase that, when
• 39:29
Speaker 2: I think about all he's been through the years that
• 39:32
Speaker 2: he's played, and I'm trying to figure out what can
• 39:36
Speaker 2: he bring to me now, he could help me by
• 39:41
Speaker 2: being around young quarterbacks, yes, explaining to them all of
• 39:45
Speaker 2: these kind of things, but there is none of that
• 39:48
  Speaker 2: in him.
• 39:49
Speaker 6: No, I think he doesn't play second one.
• 39:51
Speaker 2: No, I think his whole existence is playing his whole
• 39:56
Speaker 2: existence is I am great? It is, it is, and
• 40:02
Speaker 2: it is difficult. It is challenging to consider yourself playing
• 40:07
Speaker 2: at an elite level and then all of a sudden
• 40:09
Speaker 2: finding yourself like realizing physically, physically, mentally, emotionally, all of
• 40:17
Speaker 2: those things that you just don't have it, like you
• 40:21
Speaker 2: just can't find it, like you just I wish I
• 40:25
Speaker 2: had it, I wish I still had it, but I don't.
• 40:29
Speaker 2: And there are those people which I think he is
• 40:32
Speaker 2: that guy who is overlooking all of those messages that
• 40:36
Speaker 2: that are pointing out to him, that are that are
• 40:39
  Speaker 2: saying to you.
• 40:40
Speaker 6: It's really sad, it really is.
• 40:43
  Speaker 2: I think it's even I think it's worse that he
• 40:47
  Speaker 2: even said because in that clip, it's it's it's a
• 40:51
Speaker 2: lengthy kind of a clip, that statement that he's making
• 40:56
Speaker 2: to me. I think that that just makes you look
• 41:02
  Speaker 2: bad man.
• 41:02
  Speaker 6: It's just a problem, yeah.
• 41:04
Speaker 2: Because you don't really like you're not looking at it,
• 41:06
Speaker 2: like you're not you don't really know, like you don't
• 41:08
Speaker 2: really know where you are at this point.
• 41:13
Speaker 5: It's like he's going to these teams saying, not what
• 41:15
Speaker 5: can what can I do for you?
• 41:17
Speaker 6: It's more like what can you do for me?
• 41:19
Speaker 5: You know, And that's not the right team oriented attitude
• 41:23
Speaker 5: that works well in an NFL setting?
• 41:25
Speaker 2: Is there is there is there the things that make
• 41:27
Speaker 2: you great also communit things make you bad, Right, that's true.
• 41:32
Speaker 2: Any one of you think that, is there any quarterback
• 41:37
Speaker 2: in the league that's that that's a starter that he
• 41:41
Speaker 2: could play before But I think it's a lot if
• 41:44
Speaker 2: you're just talking about just pure maybe if it's you know,
• 41:48
Speaker 2: just a seventeen game run, but I just think it's
• 41:51
Speaker 2: bigger than that. I just don't think you to me,
• 41:56
Speaker 2: he could probably come in there and do some things,
• 41:58
Speaker 2: but I think it would just cost you too much
• 41:59
Speaker 2: any in so I think he could probably go over
• 42:03
Speaker 2: there maybe because I mean, if you look at his
• 42:05
Speaker 2: last year status, he threw for three thousand yards I
• 42:07
Speaker 2: think twenty thirty touchdowns. It was a decent season for
• 42:11
Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers. But I just don't think long term is
• 42:13
Speaker 2: just to me, it's.
• 42:15
Speaker 6: Just the it's the investment, the investment, the.
• 42:17
Speaker 2: Cost analysis of what he the damage that he could
• 42:20
Speaker 2: do to a locker room for me is just too much.
• 42:23
Speaker 2: But I mean talking about the draft, we talked about
• 42:29
Speaker 2: Travis Hunter. Now, there's been talks that Travis Hunter is
• 42:34
Speaker 2: going to be. Some people say he's gonna be primarily
• 42:37
Speaker 2: a dB and then to play a little bit of receiver.
• 42:40
Speaker 2: Some people say he's gonna be primarily a wide receiver,
• 42:43
Speaker 2: play a little dB. So what are your thoughts? What
• 42:47
Speaker 2: do you think he should come in as and sort
• 42:50
Speaker 2: of supplement as I'm gonna say, I would think he
• 42:54
Speaker 2: would want to come in as a receiver. I'm gonna
• 42:59
Speaker 2: I'm going to put him at receiver, utilize his speed, ulize,
• 43:05
Speaker 2: utilize his quickness, his ability to catch the ball, because
• 43:11
Speaker 2: I think if you if you bring him, if you
• 43:13
Speaker 2: bring him in as a dB, the question now is, okay,
• 43:16
Speaker 2: is that is that going to be a corner? Okay,
• 43:18
Speaker 2: so now he'll be a corner? Yeah, okay. Well, you
• 43:20
Speaker 2: know sometimes they switch it to say but he ain't
• 43:23
Speaker 2: got nothing. I think the problem, I think the problem
• 43:28
Speaker 2: that he has at at corner maybe would be one
• 43:35
Speaker 2: is he still gotta you know, there's still the Dion
• 43:38
Speaker 2: whole kind of thing, Like you know, everybody's still gonna
• 43:41
Speaker 2: say he he Dion had he touched them, right, So
• 43:44
  Speaker 2: he's got to be that good. I don't think he's
• 43:47
Speaker 2: gonna be that good.
• 43:48
  Speaker 4: Now.
• 43:48
Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say he's not. I'm not gonna say
• 43:51
Speaker 2: be outside of shadow now trophy. Okay, Okay, but again,
• 43:57
  Speaker 2: I don't know if he I don't know if he
• 43:58
Speaker 2: gets that, if he's not under Dion. I just I'm
• 44:03
Speaker 2: just I don't think a coach would probably allow him
• 44:06
Speaker 2: to do what Dion allowed him to do. But I
• 44:08
Speaker 2: think if any coach allowed him to do that, I
• 44:10
Speaker 2: think he's that. Let me clarify too, I think he
• 44:13
Speaker 2: deserved it. I think he deserved it. I really do,
• 44:17
Speaker 2: for the fact he played, he could play and legitimately
• 44:21
  Speaker 2: played both ways.
• 44:24
Speaker 5: So so, oh no, I was just going to say that.
• 44:28
Speaker 5: You know, it's kind of been the center of debate
• 44:30
Speaker 5: for this draft, right because he really, he really wants
• 44:33
Speaker 5: to go to a team that will allow him to
• 44:36
Speaker 5: play on both sides of the ball.
• 44:38
  Speaker 6: I mean, that's that's that's what my understanding is.
• 44:41
Speaker 5: I mean, he had an interview with a with a
• 44:43
Speaker 5: sports reporter from CBS CBS Sports, and uh, you know,
• 44:46
Speaker 5: he pretty much put it out there that he wants
• 44:48
Speaker 5: to go to a team that will allow him to
• 44:50
Speaker 5: explore both of them.
• 44:51
Speaker 2: So what do you think. What do you think the
• 44:53
Speaker 2: primary position would be?
• 44:55
Speaker 5: Well, for me, I mean I think for him coming
• 44:57
Speaker 5: in as a rookie, I think he should start at
• 45:00
Speaker 5: defense and then slowly let him, you know, kind of
• 45:04
Speaker 5: be integrated into an offensive skin.
• 45:06
Speaker 2: That's the way we've always seen it. We've seen it
• 45:09
Speaker 2: defense to offense. We've never seen it offense to dec
• 45:13
  Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. I understand. But here's the thing
• 45:19
Speaker 2: I'm thinking, if if if I need a receiver, okay,
• 45:25
Speaker 2: I can, I can get him. I can get him,
• 45:30
Speaker 2: and if by some chance he's not good enough, there's
• 45:34
Speaker 2: another place. So you're saying receiver would be the easiest transition.
• 45:38
Speaker 2: I think so. So you said that'd be an easier
• 45:40
Speaker 2: transition to bed. Where are you gonna play? Okay, So
• 45:44
Speaker 2: everybody's got a different kind of scheme, right everybody. Everybody's
• 45:47
Speaker 2: gonna be out in the islands a corner. Yeah, he's
• 45:51
Speaker 2: a corner. The question is is he is he a man?
• 45:54
Speaker 2: Some teams play more man than man than others. Can
• 45:57
Speaker 2: he play man and man? We don't necessarily Just because
• 45:59
Speaker 2: you cover guys in colleges don't necessarily mean you can
• 46:01
Speaker 2: cover him in the pros. Again, the piece that we're
• 46:05
Speaker 2: not thinking about is pro is not college. So everybody's look,
• 46:11
Speaker 2: if you look at his statue, look at his plane,
• 46:14
Speaker 2: forget it, forget all that. It's a whole new window.
• 46:19
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 46:19
Speaker 2: So let me ask a different question. So usage rate.
• 46:22
Speaker 2: So let's let's take that usage rate. Like in college,
• 46:25
Speaker 2: he was playing one hundred plus players a game. Now,
• 46:27
Speaker 2: obviously you ain't gonna be doing that in an NFL.
• 46:30
Speaker 2: But from a usage rate, do you think that he
• 46:34
Speaker 2: would actually be able to be more durable playing defense
• 46:38
Speaker 2: and then supplementing you know, one two for receivers, because
• 46:45
Speaker 2: I'm saying, if you're playing offense, I mean again, deep defense,
• 46:49
Speaker 2: but y'all do a ton of running. But you know,
• 46:51
Speaker 2: it's a different level of running straight ahead, you know
• 46:53
Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Because like you said, if you're playing
• 46:55
  Speaker 2: a zone, it's it's different, right, So if you're doing
• 46:58
Speaker 2: all that running as a receiver, then on the next
• 47:01
Speaker 2: series you're gonna come in here and play dB. I
• 47:04
  Speaker 2: don't know. See here's here's and I understand exactly what
• 47:08
Speaker 2: you're saying, and and and I'll even concede a little
• 47:11
Speaker 2: bit to it. But what I will say is here's
• 47:14
Speaker 2: the problem with it. To me, if he's a receiver, okay,
• 47:21
Speaker 2: he's he he's got the ability to catch the ball, run,
• 47:25
Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff. When he starts playing dB,
• 47:29
Speaker 2: now that the physicality of that side of it is
• 47:33
Speaker 2: now on him because you gotta tackle run. You gotta
• 47:36
Speaker 2: come in and you gotta tackle running backs, you gotta
• 47:39
Speaker 2: tackle some big receivers, you gotta hit a tight end,
• 47:41
Speaker 2: you gotta you gotta take on alignment, that kind of
• 47:45
Speaker 2: that punk, that type of punishment. So you're saying, like
• 47:50
Speaker 2: doing that full time and then Seth will be harder,
• 47:54
Speaker 2: to be harder. Okay. So another question, So if you say, okay,
• 47:58
Speaker 2: he's gonna come in as a receiver, that's gonna be
• 47:59
Speaker 2: the primary position, at what point do you pit him
• 48:02
Speaker 2: as a dB and ready to throw the ball. If
• 48:08
Speaker 2: he's such a great cover, maybe I put him on
• 48:10
Speaker 2: the best the best receiver. I put him on the
• 48:13
Speaker 2: slot guy. You know. So you know, so to me,
• 48:17
Speaker 2: I see it that way. I see him more in
• 48:20
Speaker 2: that situation, you know, because I'm gonna make the case
• 48:24
Speaker 2: he's gonna be he's gonna be as talented because when
• 48:29
Speaker 2: you play Dome, which is four D four corners. He's
• 48:33
Speaker 2: gonna be as good as one of the He's gonna
• 48:35
Speaker 2: be one of those fours. I'll give you that, Okay,
• 48:37
Speaker 2: So when you play Nickel, you got three, he's probably
• 48:41
Speaker 2: gonna he very well could be in those three. So now,
• 48:46
Speaker 2: but he might be one of your top receivers. M
• 48:51
Speaker 2: I mean, he definitely probably gonna be in the top
• 48:52
Speaker 2: five because received receivers. You're gonna play five or six
• 48:55
Speaker 2: receivers game, yes, and.
• 48:57
Speaker 5: It's gonna be a real challenge whatever franchise picks him up.
• 49:00
Speaker 5: I mean, you think about it. I mean, he's gonna
• 49:01
Speaker 5: go in the first round, and he's gonna go for
• 49:03
Speaker 5: a significant amount of money. So whatever team picks him up,
• 49:06
Speaker 5: they're gonna have to find a way to protect their
• 49:08
Speaker 5: assets and protect their player. So you know, you're gonna
• 49:11
  Speaker 5: you're gonna.
• 49:12
Speaker 2: And they probably got a plan, yes, And I would
• 49:14
Speaker 2: think they will be going to Cleveland. So I don't
• 49:16
Speaker 2: know if they got to you said that, I don't know.
• 49:21
Speaker 2: That's what I don't know. And see and and and
• 49:24
Speaker 2: again to that point. This is like the this is
• 49:27
Speaker 2: like the number one quarterback going to to the worst team, right,
• 49:32
Speaker 2: you know, yeah, and and and now you're putting yourself
• 49:36
Speaker 2: in a situation. So now the question goes. I go
• 49:39
Speaker 2: back to your answer and say, I don't want to
• 49:42
Speaker 2: be a receiver because do you have a quarterback for me?
• 49:45
Speaker 2: Let me be a DV. And that's what I guess.
• 49:47
Speaker 2: That's my point. Yeah, because you when you look at
• 49:51
Speaker 2: usage rate, and the thing is, if you have a
• 49:54
Speaker 2: bad offense, then to your point, you're going to be
• 49:57
Speaker 2: getting beat up because you got a company receiver, got
• 50:00
Speaker 2: to tackle, you got to take on block, you got
• 50:02
Speaker 2: to do a lot as a dB. Then I got
• 50:04
Speaker 2: to come in there and I'm running empty routes because
• 50:06
Speaker 2: maybe I got a bad office line on my quarterbacks
• 50:08
Speaker 2: not seeing me, and my usage rate is going to
• 50:11
Speaker 2: be high, but maybe my production is not going to
• 50:13
Speaker 2: be able to mag depending on where I'm going. So
• 50:16
Speaker 2: I think, to me, I would almost circle it back.
• 50:21
Speaker 2: You want to do what you do, and I understand that,
• 50:23
Speaker 2: but maybe it also depends on where you land at.
• 50:26
  Speaker 6: That's a good point.
• 50:28
Speaker 5: Person that are surrounding you, what kind of players, But
• 50:32
Speaker 5: I mean, don't you guys agree to that. It's the NFL,
• 50:35
Speaker 5: It's not college. Okay, he did phenomenal at Colorado playing
• 50:39
Speaker 5: both sides of the ball. But when you get to
• 50:41
Speaker 5: that level at the NFL, you've got to kind of
• 50:43
Speaker 5: hone in on what your your specific position is and
• 50:48
Speaker 5: just focus on that and so you can be the
• 50:50
Speaker 5: best player that you can be at that position. I mean,
• 50:52
Speaker 5: especially if you want to you know, if you have
• 50:54
Speaker 5: Hall of Fame, you know, dreams and aspirations, you got
• 50:59
Speaker 5: to be good at one thing and really really be
• 51:02
Speaker 5: good at it makes sense.
• 51:04
Speaker 2: Here's a question, is I think maybe Dion might have
• 51:07
Speaker 2: played some snap about to go there? Yeah, he might
• 51:10
Speaker 2: have played a couple of snaps at receiver, but where
• 51:13
Speaker 2: do we know him as we know him as a
• 51:15
Speaker 2: DV kick returner. But but I mean, if you get
• 51:19
Speaker 2: to your point earlier when you got the deon, because
• 51:22
  Speaker 2: I don't know if it's a Dion shadow has opposed
• 51:24
Speaker 2: as much as is a Dion influence because Dion he
• 51:28
Speaker 2: played he played dB, he played receiver, also played baseball.
• 51:34
Speaker 2: So I'm thinking in Travis Hunter's mind, he thinking, well, heck,
• 51:37
Speaker 2: if Dion played baseball and football, I can at least
• 51:39
Speaker 2: play two positions on just playing football, and and so
• 51:43
Speaker 2: he might be thinking like that too, and and and
• 51:45
Speaker 2: it's justifiable because he's right there. He's right there with him.
• 51:50
Speaker 2: But I'm gonna make like I said, man, Jerry Rice,
• 51:56
Speaker 2: great receiver, he just played receiver. Yeah, Andre Risen, Andre Reid,
• 52:07
Speaker 2: Sterling Sharp, all those dudes. Every good receiver I know
• 52:14
Speaker 2: played receiver. And I bet you they played dB at
• 52:18
Speaker 2: some point, yeah, but not a.
• 52:20
Speaker 6: Yeah, but not at the NFL level. Right, What I'm just.
• 52:23
Speaker 2: Saying maybe in high school, you know, they played both ways,
• 52:27
Speaker 2: but they became one thing. If this is new, this
• 52:34
Speaker 2: would be the new. This would be the newest thing
• 52:37
Speaker 2: to add to professional football, a two way guy. And
• 52:42
Speaker 2: I think Dion would love that to happen. To his book.
• 52:46
  Speaker 2: I just don't know how you, like I said, I
• 52:48
Speaker 2: mean to your point, I mean, even if you look
• 52:51
Speaker 2: at modern receivers, you look at the Randy Moss and
• 52:52
Speaker 2: Calvin Johnson's and different things of that nature, I just
• 52:55
Speaker 2: don't know how you play receiver. And like, if you're
• 52:59
  Speaker 2: like if you're a starting receiver or if you're you're
• 53:03
Speaker 2: in the top basically, if you're in the top five,
• 53:04
Speaker 2: which basically it means you're a starting receiver pretty much, right,
• 53:07
Speaker 2: if you're in the top five rotation, maybe the fifth guy.
• 53:09
Speaker 2: That means you can to come in probably almost every
• 53:11
Speaker 2: series at some point. I don't know how you do that.
• 53:15
Speaker 2: And then you play dB. We've never seen that before.
• 53:18
Speaker 2: If he can pull that off, I mean, and then again,
• 53:21
Speaker 2: how long can you pull it?
• 53:22
Speaker 6: Because that's another good point to that very point.
• 53:26
Speaker 2: They're gonna test this. Yeah, they're going to Yeah, they're
• 53:30
Speaker 2: gonna test this. They're gonna want to see what he
• 53:33
  Speaker 2: can actually do. If it's I just don't think it's
• 53:37
  Speaker 2: gonna be sustainable.
• 53:38
Speaker 5: And the cerebral part of it, you know, you're you're
• 53:41
Speaker 5: you're learning so many more complex plays and routes that
• 53:44
Speaker 5: that you did compared to college. I mean, that's a
• 53:47
Speaker 5: lot to have to learn and you know, perform on
• 53:50
  Speaker 5: the field.
• 53:50
Speaker 6: So that's another part of it.
• 53:53
Speaker 2: Physical and we've seen this before, Like you seen like
• 53:55
Speaker 2: the Cordell Steward's right, but he played multiple positions on offense.
• 54:00
Speaker 2: I've seen of Dick Verbel, Frank Verbel, he's a coach now,
• 54:06
Speaker 2: we've seen him. He was a linebacker and he would
• 54:08
Speaker 2: come in on the goal line packages. You see Taysom
• 54:11
Speaker 2: Hill in New Orleans. But again, you just the way
• 54:14
Speaker 2: he's talking about doing it is unpressed for modern football least.
• 54:19
Speaker 2: I'm not mad. I'm not mad if he if he
• 54:22
Speaker 2: if he's successful at it, you know, I you know,
• 54:25
Speaker 2: I don't want to. I don't want to hate on him.
• 54:28
Speaker 2: I would rather but I would rather him because again,
• 54:31
Speaker 2: when you start looking at all of the the situations
• 54:36
Speaker 2: that come with with football, all the contact that comes
• 54:39
Speaker 2: with football. Now it's not as bad as it used
• 54:41
Speaker 2: to be, but it's still gonna be out there. But now,
• 54:44
Speaker 2: if you're playing on both sides of the ball enough
• 54:48
Speaker 2: to where you're getting the ball, you're getting hit, you're
• 54:51
Speaker 2: over on the other side tackling getting hit or hitting
• 54:54
Speaker 2: somebody that ain't that is not a safety issue, you know.
• 55:00
Speaker 2: I mean, now, what you're doing is you're like just
• 55:03
Speaker 2: you're just asking for some kind of damage. Yeah, you know,
• 55:08
Speaker 2: it's just too many people. Yeah, there's just too many
• 55:11
Speaker 2: plays there, you know. And I just don't, you know,
• 55:16
  Speaker 2: I hope he doesn't. I don't hope he can't. I
• 55:20
Speaker 2: hope he just doesn't do it. And I just don't
• 55:23
  Speaker 2: think there's a reason. There's not a reason to do
• 55:26
Speaker 2: it other than just to say you did it or
• 55:29
Speaker 2: you were the first to do it and all that,
• 55:32
Speaker 2: and the credit falls all over the place. But by
• 55:36
Speaker 2: the time he plays six, seven, eight years, then what Yeah,
• 55:41
Speaker 2: that's gonna be the question. All right, Well, ladies and gentlemen,
